I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Anyone know how to fix this error. I get 1 long beep and 2 short beeps at start-up and no video but I get sound? Anyone know a cost effective way to fix this?

Answer:video card error. No video on start-up. Sony vaio all in one PC.

That beep code means that there is a video controller failure. It's unlikely that it's anything that can be fixed by anyone but a service technician.

Unless you have a removable graphics card in that rig.

What is the model number?

Hi there,
I'm having problems inserting a radeon 9800 pro video card into the agp (apg?) slot of my computer.
I have a sony vaio vgc-rb42g xp mce sp2 home computer with the onboard Intel blah blah blah express chipset , which is the problem. I have to play Oblivion. I don't know much about video cards except that brown is agp and white is pci
Now, the vaio has the brown one, but a different configuration than the radeon, but that's not a problem yet because the video card just won't fit, the slots are about 2mm too far over and it doesn't line up. Am I just not finnessing it enough or is this another example of sony trying to drive me crazy?

Answer:Sony Vaio PCV RX-741 integrated video card question!

Check for BIOS updates. Down the road, a lot of manufacturers enable the option to disable onboard video. I know this was the case for an eMachines tower I was working on a few weeks back. The original BIOS wouldn't allow disabling video but the latest revision did.

I have a Sony Vaio VCG-LS20 series all-in-one desktop. 1.5 years ago, the computer started shutting down abruptly while watching movies online. At first, it would turn back on and be fine unless I started watching a video. At some point, it would only boot properly if I went through BIOS. At some point, the graphics got extremely distorted and eventually the computer stopped booting up. I took it to a repair guy, and he said it was the graphics card and it's integrated into the motherboard so can't be replaced. He was able to fix it, however, so that it was working fine for about 6 months, then the same thing started happening again. Now, I can't boot it up no matter what I try. I would really like to get this thing working again. It has Phoenix BIOS and the BIOS code that I heard (before it completely was unbootable) indicated that it is a video card issue. If I replace the motherboard, are the odds good that the prob will be fixed? Is it difficult to replace the motherboard in this model?

Thank you!

Hello!

Reading on the specifications sheet for my laptop it says...
"ATI Radeon IGP 345M chipset integrated graphics with 3D performance and 128mb VRAM"

Now, integrated graphics are by no way good for playing games, but for some (such as The Sims 2 which demands a faster PC if you have integreated graphics) then I have a fast enough PC to cope OK with them - 2.93ghz.

However, when going into the graphics card/chipset properties it only says 64mb Ram. When contacting sony they give me useless info like "Yes, the memory is shared and can be increased to 128mb, as it states on your specifications sheet".

Ok, how would you do that? Can you increase the shared memory from 64mb to 128mb VRAM?

Please help

Answer:Video Card on Sony Vaio K315B - increase memory?

This will most likely be done in the BIOS setup of the laptop. Not sure what key is used to get in to the BIOS on a Sony but try F10, F2, F1, or DEL. You can also press ESC or TAB to clear the Sony logo for more information when the laptop is booting. Once in the BIOS finhd the settings for the integrated graphics and up the shared memory size to 128MB. You laptop manual should help with this a little bit.

Of course this will decrease the availiable system memory by an additional 64 MB.

I can't get into the sony viao's bios(pcv rx-360ds)to turn the onboard video off so I may use an upgraded card. I have tried the control alt del function at start up to no avail. When I gave installed the geforce 5200 64mb video card in the agp slot turned the viao on it says sony then gives me a black screen and will not continue to boot. Speaking to someone about this they stated the pc may be conflicted in trying to run both the onboard and agp slotted video card. Any suggestions on either getting into the bios to disable the onbard video card or suggestions on how to get this to work? I am currently running windows 98 if that helps, thanks.

Answer:cant get into sony vaio bios to disable onboard video card

The OS doesn't matter. Also, you don't open the bios with ctrl-alt-delete. Usually the bios can be accessed by pressing delete during POST. It should actually says "Press delete to open bios" somewheres on the screen.

If it has a picture it shows when it's powering up that is usually when you press the key. If delete doesn't work, try pressing tab. TAB usually will make the picture disapear and show you the POST informat, as well as tell you what key you need to press.

Hi,
Is it possible for me to upgrade my 32MB ATI Mobility Radeon Video Card of my Latop to say 128MB ATI card on my own. Or I can get it upgraded only from Sony.

Thanks

Answer:Graphics Card upgrade for SONY VAIO Laptop

It certainly seems this is possible. Have a look at this:-

http://www.traderock.com/LaptopGraphicsCardAti.html

but remember, the 32Mb is borrowing that from your system - can your RAM spare 128? You're a brave person to go fishing around inside a laptop. Maybe a Sony upgrade wouldn't be as expensive as a slip of a scredriver in a tight space.

Answer:How to reset the IP addres of ethernet card in my sony Vaio laptop?

If you are getting a 169.XXX.XXX address, it means the computer is not getting an IP address assigned from the router.

Several common things can cause this. The modem is not configured for DHCP, the cable, network card or port on the modem are defective.

I have a Sony VAIO which I purchased 14 months ago. It has been running warm for a while now until last month it would not start up. When you switch on you get a page of letter a' s then a blue and black vertical striped page then nothing.

The Start up repair will not work.

It took a while but finally I got a response on the Problem Solutions from Microsoft suggesting that there was a problem in that there was a 'video hardware error'.

It has since said there is also a problem with the 6-4 adaptor.

I did try to download a driver update however it says that it can't recognise the software and will not complete.

I have run a registry scan and it found hundreds of problems with Reg Cure however it woill not let me actually make the purchase so that I can get unlimited fixes.

The model is VGN-S71 E

Answer:Video Hardware problem with my SONY VAIO

reg cure wont help , its not a reg issue , either way reg cure still wont help its a waste of cash dont buy it mate trust me. 100% of the "issues" it found wont actually be issues at all , just redundent reg keys which are no problem and never will be.

it seems you have a hardware issue and your only resolution is an RMA (return to manufacturer) or a repair shop (is it still under warranty?) a repair shop will be expensive and most likely a waste of time.

Model : PCV-RS720G - Sony Vaio Tower

Here's my problem, i just recently installed BFG FX5500 into the tower and when i first restart the computer and plugged the monitor into the new graph.card , it had a Red Sign on in the middle of the screen that read,
"Attention signal Frequiency is out of range
H:--.--
A:--.--
Please chage signal timing"

I dont know what the "H" and "A" stand for, but NOTE there might not have been and "A" . i copied H, but rememberd A from memory, it might b incorrect.

I have done the steps by disabling my Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family , Display adapter after plugging the chip in and then restarting computer, to where i have got that "out of range" on the screen.

I've found someone on the site that has just about the same exact problem as me, but i cant message him due to a lack of posts because i had recently joined . please take a look at his thread to understand more of what i have to go through .

Answer:Sony Vaio Graphics Card Problem.

Hi... I took a look at the thread you linked to, and it was over a year ago, but as I was reading it I kind of remembered the problem. From what I do remember, I don't think I ever got any PCI video cards to work, and finally got a brand new (at the time) PCI Express video card to work. I cleared the BIOS using the on-board jumper and installed the card before powering on after clearing the BIOS. I think this prevented the system from 'bonding' to the on-board video first, and sent the video output to the new PCI Express video card. I also remember that I was unable to flash the BIOS, but that there was a BIOS update available that fixed problems with add-in video cards. The Sony site had 3 different BIOS versions, none of 'em worked. I just checked the Sony site for your model, and there is a BIOS update that fixes an issue with PCI Express video cards, here's the link http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=PCVRS720G&upd_id=1714&os_id=7 You didn't mention if your problem starts right when the PC is powered on and you don't get the Sony logo, or if the PC starts loading Windows normally, but then when Windows is about to load up, you get the 'signal timing' message. If it's the latter, then try booting in Safe Mode and uninstall the BFG video card from the Device Manager and reboot. Then install the Windows XP nVidia driver from this link. Reboot and you should be OK *fingers crossed*

Have you formatted the card ?, right click on the card and choose format, let it run through the process and try the card.
Also, go to the Device Manager and look for any yellow triangles.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

I'm using my sister's Sony Vaio laptop that i decided to downgrade from vista home premium to windows XP. The first thing i should have done should've been to get all the hardware information while on vista.... but i completely forgot. I backed up my general files but not the hardware information.

Now I'm stuck with a brand new installation of windows XP and no internet because XP isn't recognizing my NIC.

I've been googling around for some hours now with nothing.

I've gone to all the main "official" Vaio Sony sites. They all ask for model or product, but for some reason my model doesn't come up anywhere i check. There is also another option to type down your serial and product key which is a 15 digit number. Whereas the first 7 digits are the serial and the 8 other digits the product key. Everest home edition has no more luck detecting.

In hardware manager the only thing detected was the 1394 firewire port.

This laptop, from what my sister said, came with no manual or other useful information; meaning none.

I'm really stumped on what else I could do. I was thinking if there was maybe some sorta Vaio utility that could.... detect the hardware? or something.

Please tell me that you burnt off your windows vista recovery media before blowing every thing away.

The problem with Sony is that they do not put drivers up on their website. So if you happen to
1. Loose your recovery disk
2. Have a hard drive crash and not burn off your recovery media
3. Roll back from Windows Vista to Xp
then you are up the creek with out a paddle.

Hi,
I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio Laptop with wifi support that is inbuilt or onboard. I already have a Asus P5E3 Deluxe motherboard at my home with ram 2 gb, 9800 gtx card and a quad core processor. Now, I connect this pc with a broadband connection at home running 1mbps speed. This motherboard also has a wifi onboard connection. What I am trying to do is setup this wifi connection so that my laptop can also connect to the internet wirelessly. For this I have installed the wifi driver of Asus (something called Asus WiFi-AP @n software) and configured it with giving it a proper connection name and a password. I have successfully done all the wifi network setup wizard on the pc and it is working well. Now the problem is that, my laptop is able to find this wifi connection but after sometime it gives an error saying to troubleshoot network connection and the wifi network disappears from the laptop and again i have to search for this wifi network and the cycle continues. Similarly, when I am trying to connect my Nokia e90 mobile phone with the pc via wifi, my phone is able to pickup the wifi connection and sometimes it is able to connect to the internet and I am also able to browse different websites but sometimes it gives me a gateway time out error. So, can anyone tell me how can i connect my sony vaio laptop to the internet wirelessly by using the Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP @n connection? When I press the power button, the screen immediately goes gray before the Sony opening even pops up. I hear the normal bootup sounds and see the front light flickering, and even hear the fan going, but I don't see anything on the screen. I am trying to boot up the laptop but all I get is a blank screen that slowly changes colors from black to blue and back and forth extremely slowly.

I've tried F8 while the computer is starting and can't get into Safe Mode. I've removed the battery and had the computer solely on AC power and that didn't work. I've tried every possible key combination into a blank screen and screen and nothing works.

As soon as I remove the battery, the laptop goes back to normal with no problems at all. Runs as usual.

Would this be the battery or something more serious?

Hi all! I have a sony vaio VGN-NR120E it seems as though there are a number of critical updates available (from Sony) but I have been unable to download most of them. I contacted Sony support, they said the problem is in my Vaio updater, some sort of registry error I think. I tried scanning/fixing my registry but same thing. The sony website has Vaio downloader updates available but I can't install them due to this problem. The lady from sony said I can't download manually til the problem is fixed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My wife's Sony wouldn't start up today. I started it in Safe Mode with Networking, got to the admin sign in screen, I put in the password, it starts, but then nothing happens. Windows doesn't launch.

All I see now is the words "Safe Mode" on all four corners and "Microsoft Windows (Build 6001: Service Pack 1) on the top.

I can't do anything. Please provide instructions how I can fix this problem. Thank you.

Hey:
Need help solving a problem with my Sony Vaio model VGC-RA820G with Windows XP Media center. The unit has built in Media card reader and last week I transfered poster jpg pics from my email to a CF card no problems. All media slots were working and Explorer showed all the drive letters for the CF, SD, XD, & MS slots. Now I tried to use the slots and nothing happens when the media card is inserted. When I check the Device drivers for the "Sony Memory Card Reader/Writer I get this error message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the device but it will neither uninstall nor work even after an uninstall it is still in the device drivers with a yellow flag.

My laptop is showing problems on display. Below is the link to video of problem.
Details are as follows:
Laptop is 6 years old and the problem started a few days ago.
The display freezes some times during use and than restarts but after windows logo appear while restarting, the laptop reboots again showing different visual effects and vertical lines.
Sometimes the problems goes away and returns on the same day or next day.
I thought the problem must be with graphics card.
But I restored the C drive of laptop to factory condition first using recovery disks that I created when I bought the laptop.
But the problem started again the next day.
Than I restored the C Drive again using the Recovery Partition on HDD of laptop, after which the problem went away for a week. Than the problem started again.
Now I have restored the complete system to Factory condition and waiting to see if the problem will return.
Now I think the problem is with software maybe as the problem goes away when C drive is restored to factory condition.
Does anyone know what is wrong with the laptop?

I have just got my self a Sony VAIO 850 series. When ever I use Microsoft Office or Works and try and press the letter k I get "spell check is complete". This only happens in Works/Word/eXEL. The k works fine in other types of programmes. There are further problems with the letter u and l. When using Works the letter 2 brings up the help pages. If I use the virtual desk top keyboard from Accessablity there is no problems. Any ideas please as its driving me crazy. Someone suggested a possible hotkey has been set up maybe in the registry or such like. I cannot find any hotkeys set up within the programmes themself. Any Ideas as how to check this and remove. I am trying to get a Soundblaster Live! Card to work in a Sony Vaio Digital Studio machine which is running Windows ME. The apparent problem is an I/O conflict with the Direct Memory access controller. As soon as the card and drivers are installed, it causes windows to lock up so I can't get into the device manager to change teh settings that way. Since ME does not offer any kind of DOS with it, I also cannot change the settings through DOS. I have tried installing the most recent drivers for the card and it still has the same problem. There are a few jumpers on the card which I thought might need adjusting but the owners manual provides no information on jumper settings for the card. Any help I could get would be greatly appreciated as I currently have no sound at all and really need this card to install without locking up windows the instant it load. Thanks in advance.

My laptop comes with switchable graphics (Integrated Intel 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 7400m) and I want to use the AMD graphics card. Are you extending the desktop onto the TV or cloning the desktop? If you are cloning the desktop, both screens use the same resolution. If you are extending the desktop, then ensure the display properties are set to the TV's native resolution.

The display settings (varies by chipset brand/drivers) should have options for "TV" use and allow you to manually adjust the screen size. There may also be options for "overscan".

Greetings,

Due to problems with my Sony VAIO laptop's processing, I have recently decided to re-install Windows XP, though this is the "Home Edition" (due to being unable to retrieve the other version of XP that I used for this laptop). Following the installation, I have attempted to also install some VAIO drivers, including one that concerns the wireless connection. However, once successful and re-booted the laptop, during the procedure, I right-clicked on the Wireless Network Connection (after clicking on "View network connections), called "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection", then, in the drop-down menu, I clicked on "View Available Wireless Networks". Once there, I can see the available networks, including the name of the router that we use. Below the selection box of available networks, a message says "This wireless network requires the use of a network key (WEP). To access this network, type the key, then click Connect. After I entered my security key, I encountered this error message repeatedly:

"The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters."

Consequently, I am unable to access the Internet because of this message!

If it helps, the model of this laptop is a Sony VAIO VGN-FS740/W, and we bought it in December 2005. In terms of the system specifications, this is, again, t... Read more

My sony laptop video starting crudding out. Sometimes it will work for awhile most of the time it deteriorates, with its nvidia video card I wonder if I need to replace my motherboard, or have it replaced. The video out also cruds out which leads me to believe the lcd is ok, I did take it apart and jiggle the cables (lol) didn't help. I found another posting on here that said that those ebay services are the way to go. I took it all apart, I've built desktops before but thats like putting legos together compared to this! laptops are a different level for me. Thanks in advance for any input!

Is it worth it? The machine is plenty fast for me, for now. But if I end up having to pay close to 200 it seems worth it to upgrade to i3 or i5.

Thanks again!

The 8400m is affected by a large scale problem affecting many nVidia products, here's some more info: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/nvidia-hit-by-faulty-mobile-gpu-disclosure/2172

You may be able to replace just the graphics card but you will have to find a matching one; you may want to contact Sony to see if they will sell you a replacement or if they will repair it for you.

Question: Sony Vaio Video

This is an extremely specific question regarding my Sony Vaio that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on. I'm running Windows 98SE on the machine.

I have a digital camcorder and bought an S400 cable that I can attach directly from the camera to the laptop and can actually watch and download the camcorder videos on my laptop.

After using the connection with no problems a few times, the last time I tried to watch the camcorder videos on my laptop all I got was a green screen or just a still of the first video image (the video would continue to play on the camcorder, and I can still download entire video files as always with no problem).

The only program I can recall loading before having the problem is upgrading AOL 7.0 to AOL 8.0 - is anyone aware of any software conflicts that may be causing the problem?

Thanks,

Mike F.

Seems I bit off a little more then I could chew.

I am trying to install Windows2000 on a Sony Vaio PCV-RX755 for a freind of mine that prefers that OS. He gave me his computer and his Win2K disk. Clean install was sucsussful.

I came into a problem when I found that Sony does not provide drivers for this computer running Win2K. I currently need Video drivers, after that I am sure I can find drivers for everything else.

Thanx for any advice

On boot, you see the vista loading bar, but in the background are vertical red lines. Before giving the "windows shut down due to" screen where you can pick "last known good configuration," you see a series of white dashed patterns across the screen, then "last known" and other options appear with the vertical stripes (not always red) in the background.

I attempted to start with "last known" and it just hangs on a black screen, with barely visible dark stripes in the background. Booting into safe mode is a little different. You see all the checks scroll across the screen, with stripes in the background, and when the desktop loads, you see the mouse, but white lines criss-cross throughout the screen.

I can't boot into windows to attempt to recover or install any video drivers. I'm not sure what to attempt next, since I've never worked on an all-in-one model. I would normally try switching out the monitor or the video card... but it doesn't seem like I can do that here.

Suggestions for the next step of troubleshooting? I'd think maybe recovery console, but the computer came with no discs - I was told that if we needed the restore and hardware discs, we'd have to call sony (I'm on the site now, and reading, but haven't found any troubleshooting tips that match the symptoms I've seen).

Is this a vista issue with drivers that got corrupted somehow? Or is this a hardware issue that I need to worry about?

Hi. I have an old Sony VAIO desktop which I just received from a friend. I formatted the HD (tons of virus activity) and reinstalled Windows XP SP2 from a CD I had; the CD that came with the system had been lost. I was able to update the sound drivers and get most other features working, but I am unable to use DirectX 9. The dxdiag utility says "The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

Here is my computer's model info:
Model = PCV-RX760(UC)
Motherboard Name = Asus P4S266-VX
Motherboard Chipset = SiS650
Graphics Controller Type = SiS 315
Graphics Controller Status = Enabled

I tried downloading and installing the video driver on that page; it installs fine, but nothing happens after reboot. When I try and re-install it after reboot, it tells me (just like the first time) "This software driver has never been installed in your computer system. Would you like to continue the installation?"

I even downloaded the driver directly from http://sis.com/download and tried to install it. It comes as a setup .exe file; when I run it, it cancels out saying "The setup program cannot find suitable driver. The setup program will terminate."

It seems the original poster in http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/505585-solved-sony-vaio-video-controller.html had a similar problem, but I don't understand what he did to fix it... Read more

I have a Sony VAIO I'm working on. Audibly, it appears to be booting up, the appropriate lights flash, etc. However, there is no display. The LCD doesn't even flicker. I hooked up an external monitor, in the event it was simply LCD failure. However, this also shows no display. The monitor does indicate that it knows there is a computer on the other end. It seems to think the computer is putting it in sleep mode and stays amber. There is a clicking noise from the laptop, the CPU fan is spinning and the hard disk also seems to be spinning. But the 'thinking' lights go out, only the battery charging light stays lit.

Thoughts? I haven't opened it up yet, so I don't know if the graphics are on a card or onboard.

Hi all.
My Viao (VGN-FW480J) running Vista (64 Bit Home Premium w/SP2) boots with a pinkish screen, red thin line on right side of screen and distorted colors that are also grainy. The desktop looks so bad that it is hard to read anything on it. I have replaced the video driver (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650) without any improvement. The trouble started when I downloaded some win updates having to do with security essentials. I removed security essentials but no improvement. Now in addition to video trouble I cannot download any updates. Receive an update error 80070490. I have tried windows update support site to fix the error but all of their fix programs failed to work. I don't believe it is a hardware issue since some boxes that pop-up are very clear when on a white background. Viao diagnostics also reports all hardware is OK. I am also unable to do a system restore because Vista reports no restore points found. A complete scan with Malwarebytes reports no threats. Can anyone please help? Dan Chastain

Answer:Sony Vaio Video trouble

Same problem when running from a Live CD/USB?

A Live CD/DVD or USB flash drive contains a complete bootable computer operating system (OS). When you boot a computer from it, the OS loads into, and then runs from memory instead of a hard drive. This allows you to run an OS without installing it or making any changes to a computer's current configuration.
To create one, download an ISO file containing the OS you want to use, (such as Ubuntu, Slax or Zorin), then use something like ISO Recorder to burn it to a CD/DVD or USB key.
Now boot your computer from this disc/key and your computer will be running that OS instead of the one on its hard drive.
When you're done, simply reboot your PC from the hard drive.

If the problem persists even when running a different OS, then the issue is probably hardware related.

I've got a Sony Vaio PCG FX401 running Windows XP but when I want to use the Video Out Option that my laptop provides, so I can see my desktop on my tv, it only shows the background not my desktop icons or any media what so ever.My laptop is not old and I have just restored my Win XP again to get rid of all the crap that those odd useless programs create when installing. So I presume my driver is working, but does it need upgrading, to enable me to see all my desktop with all the icons and media. Thanks Rob.

Answer:SONY VAIO PCG FX401 Video Out Problems !!!

It sounds to me like you have an option checked along the lines of "extend desktop onto TV".When I connected my previous laptop to my TV I could have the TV as an extension of my desktop. Try this:-- Connect your laptop to your TV in the way you have done.- Open an application (e.g., Internet Explorer)- Click on the "Restore" button (at the top right of the screen next to close) so the application isn't maximised.- Click and hold on the title bar of the application and drag it along to the right (or left/top/bottom) of the screen and see if it appears on your TV.If this is the case then your laptop is working fine and you just need to find a setting to make the TV the same as your laptop screen.hope this helpsregardsFitshase

HelloI have a Sony Vaio desktop model PCV-V1/G. I want to output video games from it to my Sony Bravia TV.The Vaio has video input jacks only - is there some software I can purchase to enable me to output from it?ThanksDavid

Answer:Sony Vaio desktop - how to ouput video

Few options:i) Does your Bravia have a PC-in ? Many LCD tvs are effectively monitors also.ii) You might need a "TV Out" - some graphics cards (I thought most) these days have themiii) If your Vaio outputs DVI and your Bravia has HDMI input (I suspect it will have) then you should be able to use DVI to HDMI.Also worth asking on click here if you don't get a response here.

I have a computer I want to use for connecting to a projector for a church. The software I'm using for projection works best with two monitors (CRT and projector).

I was given this computer without any video adapters, so I tried to put in the ones that came from an older computer (which worked) running 98.

I can't get the driver for the second adapter installed properly - it keeps giving an error.

I then tried just to get something working by taking the old computer's hard drive (and booting 98) but that isn't working for other reasons, and I really would prefer to have it running XP.

I have a Sony Vaio desktop PCV-RXG408 and a Sony laptop PCG-F707.The desktop has a DVD-RW drive and the laptop a DVD drive.Video files made with Hauppauge WinTV USB Nova-t made on the laptop can be transferred to the desktop and burned to DVD. The DVD will then play on Windows Media Player 6.4 on the laptop, but is not recognised by the desktop or Windows Media Player 8.00. Other similar problems lead me to believe that Sony has implemented some new form of copy protection on their desktops (The laptop is over two years older than the desktop)Any ideas?PeterPaul

Hi everyone,
I'm on a Sony Vaio Pro 13 running Windows 10 64bit.
Ever since upgrading to Windows 10 I've been experiencing strange horizontal distortion on the right half of the screen while viewing videos through any internet browser. The issue seems to be confined to YouTube ads (actual videos themselves are fine), news websites, and other websites whose video encoding is presumably similar. I've attached a fairly shoddy image I took with my phone to demonstrate the issue.

I have upgraded and tried reinstalling any driver that I thought was feasibly connected to video playback to no avail. There are admittedly some things I haven't tried (like rolling back to a previous Windows) out of sheer laziness, and the urge for a quick fix.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
mpclay

Hi--

I have a SONY Vaio Laptop and have recently been trying to install USB card readers. I purchased a Stratitec card reader and it says I should use the General USB Mass Storage Driver....

When I install this device to my laptop, there is no problem at all...instantly recognizes it and works.

Does anyone know how I can get this to work on my SONY laptop? I know that SONY has their own digital memory sticks and has a slot on this computer to read their memory sticks...but alas...I also have compact flash cards that I want to read.

I truly appreciate any and all help. I am a novice, so please keep that in mind when explaining to me.

Thank you so very much!!

Assuming you have XP on the laptop you should be able to see the card reader as a mass storage device in "my computer"

Ever since I allowed Geek Squad to wipe out my computer and re-install XP, my USBs and PC Card slot do not work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and still haven't had any luck. I've had friends that are "computer people" try the same thing and they didn't have any luck either. They concluded it was an internal issue, not just a software problem. They recommended replacing internal parts.

I came across this site that had parts for my laptop - Sony Vaio PCG-V505BXP. I am trying to figure out what parts to purchase first.

I am deciding on these:
Sony PC Card Connector - 1-817-276-14
Sony USB Connector - 1-793-365-21
Sony USB Connector - 1-794-548-21

I mainly want to the USBs working and I am not as concerned about the PC Card slot. I was told I may want to replace the motherboard, but that sounds so extreme.

Any advice or recommendations?

Thanks!

Answer:Sony Vaio USB/PC Card issue

do you know if they messed around with the BIOS seting's because you can disable USB ports and PC cards from there, I have no idea why the geek squad would do that but it is a possibility.

After problems, did a full reinstall of Vista 32 Home Premium. All OK, except no wireless. In Device Manager, there is only an ethernet controller under Network Device. Under Other Devices, there are 3 exclamation marks - an ethernet controller, a mass storage controller and an other device. None of them have drivers and they are all 'unknown'. It was OK before - any thoughts please?

The one's with the Yellow exclamation marks - right click and select "Update Driver Software"

Hey all,
I'm new here but my friend said this is a great forum so i will probably stay. :giddy:

But the reason I am posting is because I have a Sony Vaio PCG-FR820(I)
It has an intergrated video card (Radeon IGP 34xM) which is 64MB.
I have heard somewhere that I am able to change in the BIOS how much of the RAM is given to the video card, I was wondering if there is a way to bring my video card up to 128MB.

Hello, I have this weird problem with the SD Card slot or maybe it's some of the cards. It won't read all the cards and sometimes it won't read any. The worst part is, once it locked up my computer and then it wouldn't let the whole computer shut down. Sometimes I have to unplug the compter to shut it down. I thought all of this was coming from my camera so I bought a new one. lol The new card that I'm trying to use is a micro from my phone and it's in a ATIVA converter card. My camera card is a SanDisk. It will read it most of the time, but sometimes it won't. I checked to make sure all the drivers were ok and it said they are good to go. All I want is to get pictures from my phone to my computer for cryin in the mud! lol Anyway, now and then it causes problems with doing ebay too. <: I hope someone can help me. Thank you. I have a Sony VAIO PCV-RX741 (XP Pro SP2) that I had to reinstall the OS and clean up. Most everything has come back fine except my monitor (cannot go above 800x600 res even though it supports 1024x768) i believe the problem is the video controller driver is not installed.

I downloaded and used the drivershq.com driver detective and it downloaded sis_v614103671_64bit.zip which contains a setup for this driver, however the UseDLL failed causing two dll's not to load...(SisBase.dll and SisParse.dll) so the installation stops...any ideas?

Can anyone assist?

I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RS320 I bought late 03, and it's time for a new video card.

I just got Half Life 2 and it says my video card is not up to par. It will play, and the graphics are good, but some things will not model untill you are on top of them.

What would be a good video card (AGP) for my system (for under $150) ?
How do I disable the intergrated video card? Is there a walk through somewhere, I know I can open the case & plug in the card, after that I'm not sure.

Hi All,

I just did a full strip and install of Windows7 onto my Sony VAIO laptop (VGN-FZ27G).
It is now running amazingly faster than before (as i only installed the basic drivers i need and ignored most of the proprietary Sony additional software).

My only issue is i cannot get the integrated SD Card/Memory stick reader to work. It comes up on Device Manager as a Mass Storage Controller, but no driver i can find for it works, even from the Sony websites.

Please help!!
Thanks

my problem is my laptop's display card

Answer:sony vaio display card find

Please state the problem more clearly. If you need graphics driver then go to Sony site for driver, usually Support>Downloads>drivers and choose your model and OS.I doubt that you can change your actual graphics card since they are usually permanently attached to/integrated into (onto) your motherboard on laptops. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I've installed windows 8 pro on a Sony VAIOVPCEB3E1E/PI

Managed to sort everything out apart from the SD Card reader. Device manager recognises the card reader as :

Ricoh PCIe Memory Stick Host Controller

Then when I plug in the SD card I usually use as readyboost, I get an audible ding that it's noticed something there, and it also installs to device manager something called :

SD Storage Class Controller

This however has a yellow exclamation mark, and nothing I do or any driver from the Sony website will fix it.

Pre Windows8 Pro , I had the consumer preview installed, that worked fine and I could use the readyboost.

Anyone got any idea's?

Answer:Anyone help with Richo SD Card Driver on a Sony VAIO

From my experience helping others with this driver, just download the latest and greatest from any distributor. For example, ASUS, ACER, HP etc...

Install and done. Check Device Manager dates to see that the install worked.

Question: Sony Vaio Laptop

Ive just bought a Sony Viao laptop of ebay, and the display is messed up. The picture is small in the middle of the screen even when the computer is booting up, the actual picture is aboul half the size of the screen. ow do i get the screen to fit the entire screen - lol that makes sense.

Answer:Sony Vaio Laptop

Sounds like the power invertor for the display is dying..(common problem in notebooks) If so, your need a replacement screen invertor for that model notebook, and someone capable of replacing it.. They can commonly be found on ebay..

Hello Everyone,I've got a Sony Vaio VGN-FE11S with 1GB RAM and want to upgrade. The Sony site is fairly helpful and says the followingMemory Type SO-DIMM - 533Mhz (DDR2) which is helpful enough. I've found something to that specification on Dabs. However when I click to buy RAN from the Sony shop (too expensive), the ram that they try to sell me is the same but is 667mhz.I therefore have 2 questions...Can I buy the faster 667mhz and it still work? Can I get any faster than this? Also the maximum memory is 2GB, and I have 2 slots. Would I be better off buying 2 1GB, or 1 2GB and having a spare slot? It's the same price either way. Thanks in advance.

Question: Sony Vaio Laptop

My Sony VAIO laptop will only run in Safe Mode and BIOS. I have installed every possible OS on the planet including it's own restore disks. I have done every thing I can think of shy of new RAM and CPU and HD to figure out why it does this. Please Help !!

Answer:Sony Vaio Laptop

Hi there!

If it runs in Safe Mode, then it's most likely caused by a software or driver issue.

In safe mode
run MSCONFIG
Check "Selective Startup"
UN-CHECK "process config.sys file" (if there)
UN-CHECK "process autoexec.bat file" (if there)
UN-CHECK "Load Startup Group Items"

click apply, then OK or Close
reboot and see!

If there's a specific error message, please post it here!

Good Luck!

Hi all. I've got this Sony Vaio laptop that I'm trying to get it to work. A friend of mine said he used it for parts, so it is missing a few hardware pieces. However, I am having problems getting it to run.

It is missing a hard drive, and the RAM pieces.

When I plug it in, the power icon works, shows a green light.

The product name is VPCF136FM, the model is PCG-81115L.

When I turn the machine on, screen doesn't turn on. It just stays black, I can hear the GPU fan turn on (It takes about 15 seconds for the GPU fan to even turn on), but no matter how long I leave the laptop on, the screen just stays black, it does nothing. I was thinking maybe the GPU was taken out, but I later learned the graphics card is basically embedded into the motherboard, so you can't remove it.

Anyone know why the screen isn't working? Or should I just throw it in the trash?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Answer:Need Help With Sony Vaio Laptop

Without RAM it will never run. You MUST have at least one RAM module.

I have a sony vaio laptop (bought it 2nd hand ) have had it about two years and it was about 1 - 1.5 years when I bought it. It badly overheats - and the dc jack (mains socket) is now loose. I have had a quote of £100 (£85 + £15 pickup/return) for these repairs - which I was willing to go with (the man found that the mother board has been burnt and would need replacing for another £100. I can't remember the model number of the laptop Its a 'PCsomething...8jlm' (i think!)- but it has a 17" screen and is a 2.6 gig (processor?) Details on laptop - with repair man !. Based on these sketchy details, can anyone advise me whether they think my machine is worth the spend, cos I said to the man I could probably buy another for not much more, he said yes, but it would not be a vaio. Indian guy - very genuine. Wondered to have a go at fixing it myself and buying the parts - I reckon a lot of the price is on labour - and I have a welding kit - but I read somewhere that this sort of thing is not for the faint hearted!..anyone got any advice on whether I should get this fixed?

Does anybody know where I can find a service manual for a Sony Vaio PCG-FR720 Notebook? I wanna take a look at the guts.

Answer:Sony Vaio Laptop

Start here http://esupport.sony.com/perl/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=DOCS&PRODTYPE=24&template_id=1&region_id=1
In the 3rd section, I can input Vaio, the PCG-FR series but there is no 720 (probably because US is selected and you are in another country).
