I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I wish to reinstall my computer, but it happens that I have cracked the screen, rendering it unusable. I still use it on the TV screen with HDMI, with no problem. VGA works too. My goal though is to bring the BIOS interface to one of those screens, without touching anything in the screen itself : i saw that people managed to do it by unplugging totally the screen, to make VGA out the default monitor. The final aim would be to boot to a USB key and reinstall  Thanks for advice - I tried every combination of Fn and else and nothing worked.

Answer:G580 : cracked screen, how to boot on VGA or HDMI ?

Replacement LCD screens are fairly inexpensive on the Open Market.  You have several options to choose from in the service manual parts list.  The instructions to change out the screen are straight forward, and providing you know the difference between standard and phillips screw drivers you should be fine.

As to making the external port active a boot time for BIOS - that may not be possible as I could not find a setting to make that happen with my G580.  It would have to be a boot option in BIOS settings not from within Windows.  The OS is not loaded until after POST completes.

Good luck.

I'm trying to create a secure setup on my new Windows 8 laptop. Not worrying about the NSA, just want to keep a serious thief away from my data. I know 100% security is impossible. I'm planning to swap out my mechanical hard with with an SSD with 256-bit hardware encryption which requires a password on boot. So my data will be quite secure on boot. But if a thief were to get my laptop with the lid closed it will be in sleep mode (I won't shut down and reboot each time).
When coming out of sleep, Windows 8 is at the login screen. There are many free and paid software that run from a USB stick or CD/DVD that can retreive or reset a Windows 8 password. I'm wondering if a thief can run or load a program from a USB stick or DVD/CD from the Windows 8 login screen to get my Windows 8 password, whereby they could then log on and grab my data. This could be done if Windows 8 allows access to the CMD prompt from the login screen.

The screen is only cracked in the corner which is why I thought i would still be able to use my phone but the touch screen wont work at all. This has never happened to a touch screen phone I have owned before why has this happened?

Answer:I dropped my phone and the screen cracked however instantly the touch screen stopped working.

You could try rebooting your phone and see if you fixed it, but you may have cracked the digitizer in the exactly wrong spot. It could have been the corner where the wires connect to the digitizer that has broken the circuit. You're likely looking at needing to replace your touchscreen.

The display of my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j004sa Notebook is cracked from top to bottom. This has resulted in the touch screen ceasing to function... what am I to do? Can I send my laptop off to be mended, or do I have to take it back to John Lewis to get it mended? What is the likely cost of fixing it?

Answer:Screen cracked, touch screen not working, HP ENVY TouchSmart...

It's not covered under HP warranty for any reason as I found out.  They will repair it for about $250.

Well, it was bound to happen. After 20 plus years in corporate tech support, unpacking, configuring, and shipping laptops all over the world for the first time I cracked a laptop screen. Unfortunately, this laptop screen was attached to my personal HP Envy Touch Smart 15 Notebook PC.

I have always believed that ?stuff happens?. We live by the luck of the draw. When it?s time it is time. You never know. When I picked up my laptop one morning last week on the way to an offsite there was no mistaking that muffled pop of a cracked screen. Stuff happens.

My screen still worked but no longer with touch screen functionality and I immediately jump on the web to determine the cost of and the degree of difficulty to replace the broken screen. In this site and others, I was surprised by the number of Envy owners who?s broken screen story mirrored my own and whose uploaded photos look uncomfortably familiar.

In almost every uploaded image the impact area was nearly identical, roughly 1.5 cm from the top bevel and nearly perfectly in line with the center of the touchpad.

Many generations of the Envy are designed with a Touchpad that sits in a shallow trough. That trough, the width of the Touchpad, extends out and forms a depression along the outer edge of the laptop.  When closed, the top or lid, with the fragile display, is supported by the stiffer bottom ?half? of the laptop. But a depression on the edge of the keyboard half of the la... Read more

My other half bought a Nokia Lumia 530, and before she'd even turned it on she tried prizing the back of with a knife (Derrrrrr) an managed to crack the screen in record time 10seconds after gettin it out the box before it was ever switchd on!!!! Iv never had 1 before but every phone iv cracked a screen on has still worked but this touchscreen isnt working at all an its only a small crack at top of screen, any ideas without replacing the screen? As it was only cheap an im guessin a new screen would probaly cost more to buy an fit than the phone did? I could live wiv the crack if only i could still use it, should this happen? An can it still be used? Help needed? Thanks

Answer:Cracked Screen Only Touchscreen Not Working?

Every touchscreen has one point where the digitizer (the touchscreen) has wires coming out of it that connects to the motherboard on the phone. If you crack it there, where the tiny little wires connect, you can completely lose touch on the digitizer. It sounds like that may be unfortunately where your screen cracked. Bing for "Lumia 530 digitizer" to see the cost of a new one.

my hdmi suddenly stopped working, tried the usual tricks fn+ f5 / f8 , win key + p, disable / enable graphics card lower resolution etc. so decided to factory reset but pc hdmi still not working.

tried it on my usual panasonic tv to no avail, tested on samsung tv to no avail, the pc detects the tv and even sets the audio playback to my tv although no sound comes out of the tv. tried unplugging tv power cable and shutdown pc and took battery out for 10sec, plugged everythign together turned it all on, still not working.

i have checked hdmi cables with other devices and works on both tv's - using shortest cable to test laptop.
i honestly thought it was software problem because it can actual detect the tv's but no picture or sound works, which pointed to hdmi cables but they work with my ps3.

so it's not the cable, not the tv, not the software, maybe hardware? but it detects my tv... ?

so i am really stumped here any more info please just ask first time using forum for help :(

8mnth old pc, which sits on a rail so it doesn't overheat at all, hdmi worked perfectly since the day i got it, i had not made any changes when it stopped working... > _ <

any help much appreciated kind regards.

Answer:Satellite L750D and factory reset - HDMI still not working

Hi

Hopefully it?s not hardware problem? but I?m afraid it could be?
I think it could be a hardware problem because you said that you have already set the notebook back to factory settings and this did not solve the problem.

Did I understand this correctly? You have used the recovery disk or the HDD recovery?
Is it right?

What you could do is to check if your BIOS is up to date.
On Toshiba European driver page you should find the latest BIOS.
Check if you can update the BIOS.
Additionally I would recommend setting the BIOS to default settings and to save the changes.

At least an graphic card driver could be updated too. Its worth a check?however, I?m really not quite sure if this would help you?

Hi all,

For some reason, my HDMI audio output to my television stopped working about two months ago. I finally came across a solution this afternoon to fix it, but as soon as I reset the laptop, it reverted back.

First, some specs:

Laptop: MSI GT70
OS: Windows 10 x64 Home
Audio Driver: Realtek HD Audio v.6.0.1.7324

Seems like I've tried everything I can find on forums. Here's a rundown of everything I've checked:

1. Playback Devices -> Show Disabled/Disconnected Devices? Yes
2. Restarted Windows Audio Service? Yes
3. Device Manager -> Sound, Video, and Display Controllers -> Scan for Hardware Changes? Yes. (This was the fix this afternoon, is no longer detecting TV for an audio device after reset)
4. HDMI cable integrity -> verified.
5. Remove and reinstall audio driver? Yes
6. Remove cable from both laptop and TV and re-connect? Yes
7. Remove cable and restart laptop and tv? Yes
8. Repeat above step in various different ways.
9. Verify audio path on TV HDMI port is working? Yes, with a different laptop using same cable.

I didn't have this problem for the last two years I've owned the laptop. I've been to sever hotels with different TV's and it's been plug-and-play the entire time - until recently.

Like I said before, it worked briefly this afternoon again until I reset the laptop. Now the above steps I used to correct the issue the first time are no longer working. Does anyone else have any ideas?

So I now have a nasty cracky on the glass of my screen - top right and accross the middle.  The screen is still fully working, and touch screen also still works.  So what are my options... 1) Can I just replace the glass? If so, where do I find this product - No one sells it.2) Do I need to replace the entire screen (LCD and Digitizer) - Again no one sells it. Apparently it's a licensed product and no 3rd party suppliers have access to stock. Can anyone please help, and share any other options I have? Thank you so much in advance.

I recently cracked my screen.  The crack was interfering with the touch screen so I disabled the touch screen.  I was able to use my laptop like a normal laptop.  Picture quality was fine, no missing pixels.  Everything was fine except for the cracked screen.  I took it to my local computer repair place to get an estimate on replacing the glass.  Now the screen won't work at all.  They said I need a new LCD screen and glass with digitizer to get my computer working again.  The parts alone, cost nearly as much as I paid for the laptop!  I purchased this laptop at Best Buy this past January so it is still a new computer!  It is still under the original warranty for 5 more months.  At this point, I don't know what to do.  Is the LCD screen covered under warranty?  I know the glass is not.  The computer repair place recommended just purchasing a whole new laptop.  What other kinds of options do I have?

Earlier today my SP3 fell onto the floor and I noticed a slight dent in the bottom corner. When I tried to use the touchscreen I realized that it was not working.
When I had a look at the screen I noticed that it had a crack that started in the same corner from where it had made contact when dropped - the crack curved to the other corner. How can I get the touchscreen repaired? My wife loves her SP3 and I don't wanna spend the next month on the couch! Help!!

Hello, given all you've said including power outages, unless you have a disk image you can restore (We strongly recommend using 3rd party disk imaging as this gives you a second chance usually without technical help) I would suggest you

a. Back up any data you haven't got backed up
(You could, e.g. boot your PC using Kyhi's boot disk you can download at from the top of the Software and Apps section here)
b. Check your drive given your references to repairing it etc
c. Wipe all partitions on your system disk that are not data partitions or your factory reset partition (You will know if you created any data partitions, if not, ignore this)
d. Clean install Win 10.

Hi
i have an acer aspire 5738zg with radeon hd5400 series, 6 gigas of ram, windows 7.
today when i turned on my laptop everything was working as usual then all of a sudden after a few minutes
the whole screen got covered in some zigzag lines yellow then pink and after that the screen went black.

i forced shutdown my laptop , tried to restart but the screen wouldn't turn on.
i tried unplugging the laptop , removing the battery and pressing the turn on button for 30 seconds. also tried removing 1 stick of ram then the other but it didn't work.

then i tried to plug my laptop to an external screen via hdmi. but it didn't work either, i know the laptop is on i can hear the sound and the hard drive light works.

what could be the problem ?
i don't understand why the hdmi is not working either, yesterday i plugged my laptop to the tv to watch anime and was just fine.

any help would be appreciated

thanks

First, please forgive me if this ends up sounding tetchy, having persuaded my boss to let me spend over £2,000 on a laptop for doing demos I find I can't do them and that Dell are utterly ignoring me when I tell them I have a faulty machine: I have sent 3 support requests over the last few weeks and have yet to receive a response to any of them so I'm getting pretty annoyed.  I'm turning to this forum in desperation.

The most pressing issue is that the HDMI port simply doesn't work - when I connect it to a TV it shows "No Signal".  I read somewhere that there might be an issue with screen resolution, but I tried with every option available and the TV showed "No Signal" every time.  My colleague's XPS13 works no problem with the same cable and the same TV.  Is there anything that I need to do to get it to work or is it a hardware issue?

The other issues are with the screen - the driver keeps failing and restarting and it is incapable of maintaining brightness.

The Dell Support app has updated the nVidia driver twice since I got the machine about 3 weeks ago but it still fails frequently - is this a common issue or is this a faulty display?

Re the screen brightness, I have tried setting it to 50% via Windows Display Settings, Power Management and the Intel Graphics Control panel but within a few minutes, the screen invariably reverts to around 25% brightness - making it kinda hard to see ... Read more

Hi I recently did a system reset on windows 8.1 and now I have a squashed screen resolution. It says it's 1024x768 but it looks squashed and it will not let me change resolutions anyways(It's grayed out). I have the Microsoft basic display adapter and from what I understand I need to upgrade it. The problem is now when I try to install display drivers they don't work whether they are from gateway or from AMD so I don't really know what to do. The ones from gateway says that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements, though that is strange as the drivers came out at the same time or even before this computer and when I use there tool for finding the right driver it says those drivers are for this computer. The one from AMD does not work either so I am at a loss as to what I should do. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks anyway!

Download the AMD auto detect tool and run it. It will tell you what the latest driver is and if you need to download any additional software like .NET. I would advise against the Crismon driver as that is in beta.

Hello friends;

I have a Dell Studio 1735 laptop running Vista SP2 32-bit, 4GB RAM and intel Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHz CPU.

My hard drive is almost full so I store video files on a Western Digital external drive and watch them straight off of it using VLC, and I generally out to my HDTV via my HD port. I hadn't been having problems until a few weeks ago, when, upon connecting the tv to my computer, the screen would flash to black for an instant(like it always does to configure the tv) and then flash back to whatever I was doing for a second and then continue flashing back and forth. I used to just take out the cord and blow on the jack and port and occasionally I'd have to reset the laptop or mess around with Mobility Center but it would always end up working. But lately, it keeps flashing the entire time I have the tv plugged in, and it just started having this problem where every time it flashes back to my screen, the cursor is reset in the middle of the screen and i have about 1 second to click things or make tangible progress through menus before it goes black and resets to the middle. It has been doing that for maybe a week and I've still been trying to mess with different settings to get it to work and the last few days it's been resulting in BSoD with the message BAD POOL CALLER. Any suggestions or requests for additional info? Thanks very much in advance.

Dear All,

For the previous two years I have been running my Samsung TV as a monitor extension via a HDMI cable.

I have recently moved house and rewired my set up and now the computer is not outputting the signal to the TV.

Diagnosis so far:
Tried a different TV - no luck
Tried a new HDMI cord - no luck
Updated video card drivers - no luck
NVIDIA Control Pannel > set up multiple displays > my display is not working > rigourous display detection - no luck

Perhaps I need to check my HDMI output from the computer, maybe an internet wire came loose during moving??

Specs:
-
Intel Core i5 3570K

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H

G.Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 1600Mhz DIMM

Seagate Barracuda 3.5” 2TB 7200rpm 64MB SATA3

Thermaltake TR2 Bronze 700W Power Supply

Cooler Master Storm Enforcer Mid Tower Case

Microsoft Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit

Originally a Gainward GeForce GTX560Ti 1GB GDDR5, this unitburnt itself out so it has been replaced with Asus 1GB dual Cooling Fan GeForceGTX 650Ti

And the TV is a Samsung PS43D450

Please remember this exact set up has been working for two years, and has now stopped after moving house.

Can someone please help?? Thanks in advance!

Microsoft appears to have retired the very useful Fixit 9662904 for Windows XP that is described in this Performance Team Blog article:

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askperf/2012/02/24/microsoft-fixit-for-printing
The link for the Fix it --
http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9662904 -- now goes to a page with a list of links to "Microsoft easy fix solutions."  Unfortunately, the two printing-related tools on that page are *.diagcab files, which only work on Windows 7 or later.
Yes, I know that XP hasn't been supported for over 2 years ... but there are still some die-hards who use it and they do sometimes encounter printer problems that used to be easily dealt with by using the Fix it.

I have a X64 system so what I get is: install_flashplayer11x64_mssd_aih.exe

What do you get when you download?

Hello,

Today I have installed the free Window 10 Home Edition x64 and in the systems screen it is listed as "Windows is activated." However, I intend to perform a system reset because my system has been acting odd ever since it went through the update. The update process itself went fine without any errors. But now there are very long start up times, programs refuse to start up, errors. I've spend a near 5 five hours going through every option until I decided to do the reset.

The only trouble I have is that a warning screen shows up before I can do the reset and delete all my files. This is the Google Translate of it:

This PC has recently been upgraded to Windows 10. If you reset the computer, the upgrade can not be undone and put back the previous version of Windows.

But if I were to be literal in what it states in my language, it's more like this:

This PC has recently been upgraded to Windows 10. If you reset the computer, the upgrade cannot be undone and the previous version of Windows will be put back.

Is it safe for me to do a system reset without removing Windows 10?

Answer:I want to do a system reset, but the on-screen warning is unclear.

I suggest you download and create the ISO then burn a DVD or create a flash drive the boot it to do a Clean Install.

Ok so got a bit of a problem now. I got windows 10 installed no problems last week and all was going fine until yesterday. I couldn't get into the store and a couple of apps didn't run. I tried everything to reset the store app and everything so last resort I went for a reset. And its all grand reset no problem, completed everything and reset but now I'm stuck at the lock screen. Obviously the driver's for the mouse ain't installed now because I can't slide the lock screen up to enter the login. So what do I do now?? Anyone out there with some help for me?

What happened is, I woke up this morning to find my computer at a blue screen, saying System Kernel Inpage Error. Said if it's the first time you've gotten that error, just to restart. So I did. I've had another kind of blue screen error before, but not this one.

As soon as it starts up, it starts doing System Repair, without any prompting. And then once it got to the user login screen, it had... I don't know. Reset or something. The username and password had been reset to that of the man who used to own my computer before me. Had to call him to get the old password.

Once I'm logged in, it's as if I've just gotten this computer. All my programs are here, but there are no saved settings (such as in Firefox), and although my C: drive is still listed as being nearly full, my entire Documents folder (and Downloads folders, and Music folder, etc) are displaying empty.

What on earth happened here? How do I restore it to the way it was, and gain access to all the information I still have on this computer?

Answer:I cracked my Lumia 1520 screen months ago and now all of a suddem it can't read my touch, is it time to change my screen?

Try a soft reset first....i think you keep holding power and either up volume,or down volume....till it shows the gears......a hard reset is more detailed, but it erases everything......the worst is the crack might have finally broke the touch part I the screen, and you need to I install a new screen

I cracked my Stream 11's screen (well, my 3 year old threw a Lego at it!) but the blacklight worked fine and I used an external monitor until the replacement LCD screen arrived. I replaced the screen and switched the laptop on...black!  External monitor still yields a display, so it's not the GPU.  Then when plugging in the OLD screen (cracked but had still lit up), that now fails to turn on!  I was very careful in replacing the screen, yes the connector is snapped properly in place and there is no damage from the install. What's going on?  Not much having shelled out £40 for a replacement LED for now no screens to work at all!

Hi, I replaced a broken/cracked screen (which was working fine with backlight) on my T510 with another LCD screen and now I can't see anything unless I hold it at a certain angle in bright daylight. I've read a little around this topic and some searches have suggested the LCD convertor may have been shorted so I replaced with another but still a no go. Others searches suggested it may be a fuse that I may have blown on the motherboard, if so is this an easy fix? As I can seen the screen is working, is it something to do with the backlight? Any thoughts/advice would be really appreciated. Thanks

Answer:Replaced Broken/Cracked Screen On My T510 Now Screen Is Very Dim

Backlight system consist of three components:1) MB2) Inveter3) Lightsource At the moment you don't know where the fault is, so you have to test each of components. Start testing with lightsource. You write that your previous screen had working backlight. If you still have that screen, connect it to your current inverter. If backlight is working on broken screen - backlight on your current screen is faulty. If backlight is not working test another component - inverter. Here you have 2 options:1) Check for output voltage using Voltmeter (be sure to chek if you Voltmeter can handle HV that will be between output terminals).2) Get inverter from eBay or any other after-market source. Most of inverters are generic, so search by manufacturers model number instead of Lenovo/IBM part number. If it is still not working with new adapter 0 your MB will have to be replaced.

Hello, Not long ago I purchased a Lenovo Y500, and used for about three months without much to worry. One day my screen went completely black (like with no signal at all) first though something was broken, but for good luck trying things out connected an external display using the HDMI output and noticed my computer was completely functional, just not outputing info the her screen. Used the One Key Recovery and screen was usable again. That happened a couple more times. Last of those times, got a friend to install from scratch and using a copy of W8.1 we installed everything without a problem, but the computer keeps sending signal to external screens (with both vga and hdmi) cables but her screen is still black. Could anyone please provide some pointers as to what should I do to get the laptop screen working again, or should I take it to a workshop and get the screen replaced. Just any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, and please forgive my English (not native) and the long message, --Victor

Hi,

I have an Asrock ION 330 HT BD with a Sony Bravia 720p attached (HDMI to HDMI). When I start up my PC, the screen remains black. Only after I plug in a second monitor, both screens work just fine. When I pull the second monitor out, the Bravia also stops getting a signal. Seems a bit weird.. How can I get it to work with just the Bravia attached?

Thanks,
Gijs

Answer:HDMI to HDMI only working with second monitor attached

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?

Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?

Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.

Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?

Hi, This may be a very basic question but I have no clue about hardware matters, so I'm hoping someone here can help me - my Lenovo Y560 screen got broken with a huge crack across the screen. I need to get it replaced now but I don't know whether to go for an LED screen or an LCD screen. Some vendors have contacted me telling me I need a "paper LED" replacement, while others have said the replacement would be an "LCD screen". The prices they have quoted for LED and LCD replacement is Rs 3500 and Rs 5500 respectively.  Which screen should I go for? Please help! Thank you in advance.

Hi all, so I bought an 1st Gen X1 Yoga (20FR) earlier in the year, and due to an unfortunate accident the screen is now cracked and the touchscreen no longer works. I'm quite upset about it, but a repair from Lenovo would be £580 which is far too much. I'm happy to buy a display separetely and install it myself, my I'm unclear about screen compatibility. My screen is a 14? WQHD (2560 x 1440) LCD. My question is, can I buy a 1920x1080 screen (since they're cheaper and easier to find), and replace the current one with it? Or does it need to be the exact same screen? The part quoted by Lenovo is 00UR192, but would this one work for instance? Many thanks, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the CommunityFRU 00UR192 is a kit of several parts, LCD including - LGD p/n LP140QH1 (SP)(E1), Lenovo FRU 00??876. So, you might purchase separate LCD only if it's the only broken part. I don't know anything about compatibility of FRU 00??875 on the page you've linked.BTW, there are 4 compatible spare parts, substitions of 00UR192. One of them has the same LCD as above.

Question: Cracked screen

Hi. I'm new to this forum and just had a quick question. My husband has an Acer Aspire V5-561P Touch Screen that he has loved and had no issues with until last week when he opened it up like usual and it cracked unexpectedly. He brought it into a computer store, and they informed him he needs to buy a whole new screen at a large cost. Apparantly, a screw came loose inside of the screen and fell out. This seems like a factory defect to me since it wasn't bumped or anything? Anyways, what is the best option here? Is this something that acer would fix since it wasn't our fault? We are no longer under warranty. Thanks.

Answer:Cracked screen

As this is a hardware issue and your computer is not under warranty anymore, you are advised to contact the nearest Acer service center for further assistance. To do this, the following link can be helpful:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/contacts Hope this will help you.

Question: Cracked Screen

My laptop was accidentaly dropped and sadly the screen cracked. The laptop works perfectly fine. No black screen BUT the touchscreen is not working. I tried pressing the screen harder but still no touchscreen working. I noticed that when i push/press the monitor, the inside part(Maybe it's the LCD or idk) is untouched. And only the Glass from outside(Maybe it's the digitizer or idk xD) is cracked. now here are my questions:1 - what should I replace? The LCD or Digitizer or the front glass or something that I don't know?2 - How Can I replace it?3 - Can i replace it with a different Screen Model/type? Coz I think a TouchSmart Monitor screen is a hard-to-find item here in my country(btw im from Philippines), so i might use different model if possible. IF NOT,4 - Where can I buy this kind of Monitor Screen? Please suggest me a place or an online shop to buy from(An online shop that can deliver here in ASIA).

Question: Cracked screen

The screen on my Spectre has cracked twice. I have extended service protection, so it was replaced each time. Last time, the repair person specuated that the heat from the computer may have cracked it. He suggested that when I turn it off, I put some sort of protection between the screen and the keyboard. Does this sound crazy? Does anyone have any suggestions about how to keep the screen from cracking? I am scared to actually take it any place, so it is no longer "portable:"  This kind of defeats the reason that I bought it. I am definitely discouraged.

Question: Cracked Screen

I have owned four Lenovo laptops and for the most part have been satisfied with the units and customer support, until recently. I purchased a Thinkpad 420S a couple of months ago and used it for a couple of weeks. One day when opening the screen I noticed a crack in the screen at the right hinge location.  When I called customer support I was advised that this was due to customer abuse! This was before I even shipped it back. Hard to believe since the unit was kept on top of my desk, with no one else present in the house.  When I spoke to a Lenovo rep in  Denver he advised that I should have said that I had a problem with my screen instead of a crack.  When crack is mentioned it is always categorized as customer support even though this was a problem with a previous model (as per Lenovo customer  support).  Long story short, I was advised that I would be charged $700 to replace the screen which is half the price I paid for the unit. I was not able to contact a Lenovo representative with any authority or even someone to talk to for an alternative remedy.  None of the east coast VPs had contact information, of course, so I was hung out to dry.  I had them ship the unit back and it sits on my shelf with a cracked screen, a very expensive bookend. I had to buy another laptop.  If anyone has suggestions on anyone I could talk to besides customer support which is useless, I would appreciate the info. Richard

Hi, I paid top dollar to get this latest greatest Thinkpad X1. I have used Thinkpads for well over 15 years. I was working in a coffee shop, put it in standby, closed the lid, put it in my bag, walked 100 meters to another store, sat down and opened my machine to resume work and found a hairline crack right across the monitor from one side to the other.  The machine seems fine and most the time it is hardly noticeable. I have a full 3 year warranty but IBM wont even consider the warranty because they say it is physical damage and whenever its a monitor that is damaged they wont even begin to consider it covered under warranty. They want AUD640 to replace the monitor.  I was on holiday and so can also claim in my travel insurance but this is highly unusual for Thinkpads in my experience and wanted to knwo if anyone else has had or heard of similar problems with the screen cracking on a Thinkpad X1.

Answer:X1 Screen Cracked! Anyone else?

my X1's LCD is fine... i haven't heard many LCD cracking on the X1, other than when people left a pen on the keyboard and slamming shut the LCD.

Question: SCREEN CRACKED

Hi,  I recently bought this laptop and the screen is cracked.   How would I be able to fix it? Also I do have a limited time that I would need it to be fixed by if it is possible for a fast track way to fix it.  Thank You.  Tamara

Answer:SCREEN CRACKED

Dear HP Customer, If you have purchased any additional careapck like ADP ( Accidental Damage Protection) then you may reach our Technical support and can initiate warranty services provided it falls under the terms and conditions. However, you can walk into any our HP Authorised service center and can get the unit diagnosed for the LCD replacement and the cost if the unit does not have ADP. Contact HP:http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/support.html Thanks,Mahesh

Question: Cracked Screen

I opened my laptop tonight and the screen was cracked, I carried it downstairs and did nothing to it, so it is so WEIRD.  I just spent an hour on the phone and politely explained my situation, the person on the phone said it is $424 to fix.  I explained my dissappointment and said this had to have happened before it is clearly a defect.  They told me nope, so I paid the 424, like everyone else and then I get on the forums and it is rampant.   Clearly HP has a problem.   I am pretty nervous, becuase I just bought a boat load for my employees and this thing just cracked this easily, I am seriously considering not ordering any more.  I fought everyone, they all wanted the surface, but we might have to reconsider.  Sorry HP, I think you are great, but you need to figure this out, and not charge everyone so much to fix it.  Too bad the laptop is awesome, and the screen was amazing.

Question: Cracked screen

Came back from Uni this morning and opened my computer screen to find it cracked near the camera, the cracks are spreading each time I look at it and now the touch screen isn't working properly (it does on and off).No real impact that I can recall it was in the same bag as all my text books, bit disappointed I only bought it at the end of June.

Answer:Cracked screen

Hi, Sorry I don't know what is your Spectra. All I know: HP has many models/products of laptops called Spectre and they are very thin machines. They are built to last but still not like tanks. Without a good protection inside ANY bag, very hard to predict the result. Now, what is your machine ? Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108Regards.

Question: Cracked screen

My screen cracked and the touch screen stopped working but the display kept flickering on and off. The flickering became worse and I would have to keep moving the screen in different angles to use my laptop. I tried replacing it on my own with another screen but it would not work. If I connect it to my tv, the laptop still works. I bought my laptop about a year and a half ago so I do not have warranty anymore. How can I get my laptop fixed?

Question: cracked screen

My screen developed a running crack and is now operating sporadically. The bottom right corner of my screen was not flush with the lid and yesterday I gave it a hard push and the screen cracked. It cracked where my thumb pushed and created a running hairline crack to the top of my screen. The budge is still not flush as the push only cracked my screen and now my laptop is working sporadically. My laptop is still under warranty and I'm really disappointed that this defect has created new issues. Who do I contact to get this repaired under warranty?

Hi. My HP Stream x360 accidentally got cracked.  I bought my laptop in August of 2015 and the warranty has expired. Can I buy a warranty that covers accidental damage? I saw a warranty that covered it on the website but wasn't sure if it needed to be purchased on the day that I purchased the laptop.

I was useing my laptop and then we left to go get food and we just got back and there is now a huge crack on my screen and i am wondering if the warranty will cover it.

Answer:Screen cracked on its own

Does the warranty cover "accidental damage" ?  Sometimes called "all-perils" damage?Got any pets in your home?  Unruly co-inhabitants?Did you purchase on a "premium" credit-card, because sometimes those cards add "accidental damage" coverage?

Question: Cracked screen

I treated my G50 Touch Laptop very well.  Admittedly, like any laptap, I put it in my backpack and took it with me on trips for several years.  This summer I opened it up and found the screen cracked diagonally down the middle.  It operates fine.  Should I fix it, live with it?  Is there something Lenovo can do?

Answer:Cracked screen

Hi petezajonc,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

A cracked screen may not be covered by the basic warranty.
In such events, should have an accidental warranty plan for Lenovo service center to accept it for repairs.
From here, you can check your current warranty status and type.

You can have it repaired with local service center like best buy else you may download the hardware manual for the guides if you have the tools to replace the LCD screen. The part number of the LCD panel/module can be checked here to search pricing and compare it from lenovo encompass or other resellers online.

With the pricing and details, you can decide if LCD replacement is an immediate concern for you specially if the touch screen is still fine.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Question: Cracked screen

Bought laptop for my doughter in november , one day she open screen as usual and noticed crack on screen . HP Customer Support decided : mechanical problem , customer fault . Have to pay HP ( repair in workshop other than HP void quarantee ) £250 for repair because HP don't know any issues with bad quality of screen ( they not read posts in this HP support forum I assume ) . But when I requested return of faulty screen to be diagnosed by independent workshop ...... first shock , then usual game " we give you some discunt from price " , then ... we won't take laptop to repair . On the end legal department will be involved and will see .

I left my Pavilion 360 running last night and it didn't hibernate (weird)- when I woke up a few hours later, the LCD screen had popped out a bit from the housing on the upper left hand side (even weirder!) so I pushed it back in and closed the lid.  When I opened it this morning, there is a crack that starts in the bottom middle of the screen and radiates up and out- going to both upper left and right corners and the touch screen no longer works. It's still under warranty but I know that the screen is not covered. It wasn't dropped or misused in anyway! Is there a known defect?

Question: Cracked screen

I, like many other previously documented, suffer from a badly-cracked screen. I've endured it for months as it's usable, apart from occasional errant pressure on the touch screen from the broken glass mimicking a touch screen action. I can usually get over this by rebooting. However, it's less than ideal. This is an expensive computer with an obvious unforseen design fault, probably the result of taking the case to its design limits. It's living on borrowed time until a catastrophic failure means I gotta do something about it. My questions are as follows:1. My digitizer seems functional, so can I just replace the screen glass?2. If so, where can I get it cheapest?3. Can I get it in the UK? Suppliers?4. If not, does the whole lid need replacement, and where can I purchase one? It's not possible for me to go through the rigmarole of returning it to HP (USA), which is where I bought it, as I'm returning to the UK for 2 months. So, warranty nothwithstanding, I'm gonna have to get this done myself. I hope I've stated the situation clearly, so you can provide a clear-cut pathway for me to get this sorted.Sincerely,Martin K
