Lenovo x230, Windows 8 and 8.1: Sound Cutting Out

Question: Lenovo x230, Windows 8 and 8.1: Sound Cutting Out

Description of problem: at some point when playing audio, sound will cut out. The levels will still be moving on the mixer, but no sound will come through the speakers or sound jack. It seems that soon after I've closed all sound-producing applications, sound returns. I am 50-75% sure that this is strictly a sound jack issue, as I don't remember being able to reproduce the issue without the sound jack being active when the audio drops out. Frequently, bumping my headphones' cord seems to cause the problem, but other times, the problem seems to happen on a click, a loud sound, or seemingly nothing at all.

I am unsure of how to reliably reproduce the problem, so it is difficult to diagnose whether or not the problem can be reproduced when the sound jack is not active. This isn't common use for me...

Origin: Appeared mid-October, around the same time I had upgraded to the newest drivers (where the old ones were from earlier than May 2013). All were downloaded through the Lenovo website and/or Lenovo's System Update utility, with the exception of the Intel graphics drivers, which were downloaded through the Intel website. At this point, I was running Windows 8, not Windows 8.1. I installed Windows 8.1 recently, and the problem remains.

What I've tried: disabling drivers, reinstalling drivers, disabling sound effects, disabling audio application overrides...

What I haven't tried: rolling back drivers (being honest, I have a bit of trouble believing that this is strictly a driver issue at this point.)

It's probably worth mentioning the possibility of liquid damage, as a beverage was spilled onto the lower right side of the laptop, near to the headphone jack about a week or two before I first noticed the problem. However, the fact that this problem can most (all?) of the time be fixed by closing all applications and fiddling with the mixer within seconds leads me to doubt that this is a hardware issue...

Machine specifications: Lenovo x230 currently running Windows 8.1.

If you need any files or information, let me know. I have no idea how to proceed... thank you very much in advance for your help.

Preferred Solution: Lenovo x230, Windows 8 and 8.1: Sound Cutting Out

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have an X230 running windows 10 64 bit. I have a problem where the wifi stops working randomly and the only solution seems to be restarting the computer. I have seen many similar forum posts regarding various lenovo models and I have tried the suggested solutions including updating the driver and turning off the power managment's ability to shut off the wifi module. None of them have seemed to work. It appears that there are newer drivers available but windows insists that it has the newest and best driver and even if I uninstall and delete the older drivers, windows defaults back to them.I switched out the wifi module with a newer, supposedly oem module which is on the lenovo whitelist for this model (intel ultimate-n 6300agn) and I have the same behaviour. Thanks

This has been a rather frustrating problem. I have an Asus P8Z68-V Pro motherboard with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Whenever I am using an application with sound for any length of time, from as short as a minute to hours, the sound will briefly cut out for a few seconds and come back. I have tried letting windows install the driver and I have installed the driver myself. The really strange part is the sound seems to work fine over the digital optical but cuts out on my speakers and headphones which are in different ports on different sides of the computer. I am probably going to take the computer out and inspect it tomorrow to see if there is something in the case interfering. Any ideas where to look for a problem or how to fix it? I am at a loss.

Answer:Sound cutting out Windows 7

I suspect you will find nothing physically wrong.
I have a feeling that sound generation is a low priority and will suffer whenever something your machine considers more important needs doing.
I have always noticed strange pauses or bursts of unexplained CPU activity and have never been able to find the cause.

Hi. I've got an x230 with Windows 10 installed(Build 10240) and have bought a bluetooth bdc (FRU 60Y3305) and installed it into the laptop. Device manager is unable to see the bluetooth chip before or after I've instlled any of the drivers. I have tried a number of different driver packages. Some have come back with windws saying that "Broadcom Bluetooth Software doesn't work on this version of windows" and one that a number of people seem to have got working said that it couldn't detect any Broadcom Bluetooth hardware. I have a feeling that this isnt going to work  but some people on the internet seem to have got it to work!? Has andybody got any info on this? Thanks

I called Lenovo and got my Windows 8 recovery disc shipped out free of charge ten minutes later. I have a case number to prove it! This is so awesome.I didn't say anything except that I didn't know why windows won't start, I didn't know why recovery wont start, and I needed my discs so that I could get things working again. That's the last time I let my mischievious daughter play with my laptop before I get it all set up. The guy on the phone thought that was pretty funny... Thank you, Lenovo! You guys are so very helpful!

Hi all,Apologies if I've missed this elsewhere - new to the forums so still learning to navigate. As background, machine type listed below:X230 Laptop (ThinkPad) - Machine Type 2325, Model BA6As I see it I'm having two separate issues here but they may well be linked: Recent Windows 10 updates are making the taskbar fully ineffective - I note this is fairly common and have tried the powershell route to check updates to no avail; curious to know what the advice here generally is, if X230 is no good with Windows 10 or is there something specific I should be doing to rectify this. This weekend, my laptop has developed a habit whereby the sound and video playback stops working suddenly. On boot-up it's fine but after a while, I can't listen to music or watch videos at all. Bit alarmed about this but suspect it may be linked to the thunderstorm on Thursday (based in London...), given I woke up to realise the powerboard on my TV had also gone. My laptop is within warranty so hopefully if it's hardware related, I would hope this is covered - in truth, I was reassured about the Lenovo warranty but have never had cause to use it at home or work over the last 6 years of using Lenovos.Any help or guidance would be massively appreciated!Kind regards,Bal

Hi Everyone, I have Lenovo ThinkPad X230, that came with windows 7 preinstalled, as i have VLA from microsoft, i wanted to upgrade to windows 8.1. Hello, I recently purchased x230 with Windows 8.I installed Ubuntu 12.0 (attempting to dual boot).  Unfortuantely, Windows 8 is no longer accessible(UEFI error comes up on boot), the restore partition is also corrup ("required partition cannot be found").I attempted to install win 8 PRO that I purchased from scratch.  It failes because the Windows 8 key embedded into the EFI doesn't match the new Windows 8 PRO that I have on DVD. I chatted with Lenovo support, asking to purchase restore DVDs for my laptop - I was told that it's not possible (after going thorugh a couple of people and wasting 1.5 hours on chat_ Please provide some support as it is unacceptable that I cannot install clean version of WIndows 8 and the restore disks are not available from Lenovo. Thank You.

Hello,

It has been some time since I have been to sevenforums. I have missed you guys!

I was here almost every hour on the hour back when I built my PC and was installing windows7 for the first time. Now I have a new laptop and I would like some expert advice!

I bought a new, to me, Lenovo X230 Thinkpad recently and it came with windows7 installed. I am a person who enjoys simplicity, uncluttered space, and efficiency. In my desktop, and overall in my OS. Are there any tips, or guidelines for trimming down many of the programs and extraneous applications that come along with nearly every manufacturers' computers today? Should I reinstall a clean version of windows7? Is that possible with only the recovery partition on the laptop?

For example, I don't need 2 battery power applications. Either disable or remove the windows battery manager, or the Lenovo. Things like that.

I would also like to remove and backup the recovery partition from the laptop, but it doesn't have an optical drive. Then I could have more space, and only one partition. Not sure the best way to go about this. I have an external drive that I can backup the partition to.

If you want any more information about the current state of the laptop, just ask! I enjoy conversing and learning from the good people here.

Thanks again guys... glad to be back!

X230 Laptop, 8GB RAM, Intel Graphics 4000 series, SS180GB SSD. Problem occurs with laptop in the Ultra Base Series 3 dock or out of it. - VGA or DisplayPort. Laptop came with Windows 7, was upgraded to Windows 8 and then Windows 8.1 and then the 8.1 update. Problem started when Windows 8.1 was initially installed.

When connected to an external Monitor (HP ZR2240W or a Dell 2412Mb) with either display port or VGA (VGA on Dell only), Windows Explorer will stop working, open programs will show not responding. Mouse still functional, and if cursor is placed in the "taskbar" area, you will get a blue spinning circle. A double click of the mouse in that area will generally cause a relaunch of Windows Explorer (screen area goes blue, then repopulates with the icons) and things will work fine for a number of program launchs or switching between programs, then the problem will occur again. This will happen up to 20+ times per day.

Laptop has the latest BIOS installed from Lenovo, Intel Graphics Driver 10.18.10.3621. Have tried three different keyboard and mouse options (Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse, Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, and a hard wired keyboard and mouse) and problem follows each. Friday I reloaded Windows 8.1 with the most recent updates and problem continues.

Windows 8 does not play nice with older hardware, especially older Intel hardware. You did not post if you are using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 8.1. Intel does have updated drivers for that GPU. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...01&FamilyId=39

Try the latest drivers and see if that works. As for changing the motherboard. You would not be able to do so with a Laptop. Since they are specific to the case.

As title, after I updated the  newest lenovo app (windows 8.1). My mute button doesn't work now. Even I try to reinstall the power mangment driver. Does anybody know how to solve the issue? Thanks!

Answer:x230 mute button doesn't work after updating the newest lenovo app (windows 8.1)

Hi Whhsu,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are facing the issue with mute button on ThinkPad X230.

The normal procedure for updating the system to Windows 8.1 is that when you are in Windows 8 you have to update all the drivers first and then you have to update Windows 8.1.

To resolve the issue now please download Hotkey feature application from Lenovo support site and install it.

Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.

Recently, it will just cut out, stay really low are only be static. IT happens with music and also when I am video chatting. Someone may be talking and the sound will just go really low or cut out completely.  I have had technicians reinstall all drivers and it will work sometimes but not all the time. Sound seems to work fine with headphones.

OS: Win7 64-bit

Problem: whenever I right-click to copy something (e.g., in Word or Excel), the computer makes a loud ringing "DING" sound, like the sound that accompanies the "idea lightbulb" going off over someone's head in a cartoon.

The sound is coming over the outboard stereo speakers, NOT the motherboard "beep" sound from inside the computer case. This "windows ding" noise is clearly audible over whatever else might be playing through the speakers (like music).

I'm copying and pasting hundreds of items to verify data, and the DINGING sound is more than a little aggravating. How can I turn this feature OFF?

Already tried:
Control panel > Sound > Sounds Tab > highlight "default beep" > select "none" for sound from drop-down list > click "Apply"

This may have done something (or not?), but it did NOT stop the windows "DING" from sounding through the speakers every time I cut or copy something.

Thank you for any assistance,
Scott

Answer:How do I disable the Windows "DING" sound when copy/paste or cutting?

You could try going to Control Panel - Personalization - Sounds and set the sound Scheme as None or manually go through each sound and selecting None, then Enable and so on to find out which one it is (in theory it is Move Menu Item or Start Navigation but I can not approve).

Hi, I have a friend who is having sound issues on his computer. He has windows vista installed on his computer and he says when he goes to watch a movie or listen to music it just cuts off. He has a, Motherboard Name Jetway K8M8MSR2-A, I just assumed it was a driver issue or some form of compatiability issue but wasnt too sure so thought I would ask you guys.

Thanks

Answer:sound keeps cutting off.

That is an older motherboard and Jetway does not provide drivers for Vista for that board, probably because Vista will auto-install the drivers. Installing a codec pack might help, try using this pack and hopefully it will help.... it can't hurt!

Question: sound cutting out

Hi, I'm a newbie, I have a HP Media Center Pc with XP.  Whenever I try to play a video on line, I get about 10 seconds of clear sound, and then the voices start breaking up.  I've tried everything I can see to do, but it still does it.  My speakers work fine for everything but with the videos. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing the problem? Plain language please.

Answer:sound cutting out

Any or all video formats?  Only online streaming material? All I can wonder for now is whether your flash player plug in is current - assuming most vids you'll be viewing will be FLV - YouTube etc.It would be interesting as a comparison if you could save a vid file of the troublesome format and play it locally - there are two or three free FLV players available and quite a few ways to get a save of an FLV.

Hi,
Over the last week or so when I play mp4 video files, which have been burned to DVD disks, their sound output cuts in and out continuiously. To say that this is an annoyance is an understatement. I have no idea what the cause could be. Whether this is a hardware or software problem, I have no idea. I have to start somewhere, so I'm calling it in as a software glitch first. My first suspect is possible audio driver problems.

I have no idea how to check or replace my audio drivers. If one doesn't know what one is doing, then a lot of damage can be done in this area, so I'm asking for help. I'd also appreciate other scenarios of causes for this sound cutout problem with potential solutions. Has anybody out there had similar problems?

Thank you for your time.

Alright so I recently built a new pc, specs listed below. The computer has had a problem from very early on though with sound cutting out. For instance, after listening to music for around 20 minutes, I will hear a high pitched sound and then no audio. When I go to WMP, it just shows an error saying that an audio cable may have been uplugged, etc. The same thing can happen when watching videos or when playing video games as well. Usually it's the same thing, high pitched sound and then no audio until I either restart the application, or in more severe cases, restart the computer. If I play two forms of media simultaniously, for instance a game and music, it happens almost instantly every single time.

This is driving me INSANE. Now, when I built the computer, I tried installing a sound card but it was giving me problems. Well once it was determined to be DOA, I just decided take the refund and use on board audio because I have the Bose Companion 5 speaker system and it sounds great anyways. However, in my Device Manager I have an "Other Devices>Unknown Device" that shows up. This is where I think there could be the error, as the sound card was having driver issues as well, making me think that this unknown device could be the cause of the problem, perhaps causing a conflict.

My current devices listed under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" are:
Bose USB Audio (the speakers I stated)
High Definition Audio Device
NVIDIA High Definition Audio... Read more

Answer:Sound cutting out randomly

Go back to Device Manager Sound, Video and disable the ones you are not currently using, I which think would be Nvidia High Definition Audio. If you have more then one sound card turn off the pc unplug everything and pull out the cards you are not using.

Recently the sound in my speakers has been cutting in and out consistently. Often I have to fiddle with the position of the PC to get it to work, and once it works I cannot move it from the position or touch the computer at all really. Additionally, when I have headphones plugged in, sometimes the sounds will cut into the speakers as well. Again, I have to move it around until the sound stops coming out of the speakers.  Any suggestions??

Just put together the first system using a Duron 600 and the onboard sound is cutting out something fierce.

The only card installed is the ATI Expert98 8MB.

After installing 98SE, I installed the Via 4in1 4.24, then the Sound card codecs.

There does not appear to be any IRQ conflicts in device mgr, deleteing card and re-installing did no good.

I've searched around a bit looking for a solution, and I'll continue to look, there's gotta be an easy fix?

in the past week or so i've been having audio cut outs randomly, I'll be watching somethign and the audio just cuts out for about 5-10 seconds then comes back, but the video keeps going or the game etc.what should I be checking ito to troubleshoot this issue? already went through the basic steps but i just can't figure it outSetupwindows 7 64x osusing a ASUS Xonar DGX audio card with a steelseries siberia V2s headset (analog, not USB)

Answer:sound cutting out randomly

If you are playing audio through a ound system, eliminate sound system plu using a headset instead.. if problem goes away then sound system external to the computer has issues, most common being a wire with an interlittent break. If the problem remains then its computer related and the next test I would suggest is a memory test such as memtest86.

I have Windows 10 and for probably over a year it's likely that I've had a virus on my computer. Something occasionally pops up with something called 'binkiland' which I have deleted a few times and ran avast anti virus scans and deleted but it's never properly gone. Recently, my computer's sound functions have completely stopped working after about 10 minutes into steaming something/playing previously downloaded music/Skype calling - either the sound playing cuts out and the film/music etc freezes shortly afterwards, or with the case of Skype, the microphone stopped working though I could still hear the other person. I don't know whether the sound issues are related to the virus but both need to be fixed either way. Online advice about the sound said to completely wipe the hard disk but I'm reluctant to do that for the hassle of trying to reinstall Windows and Microsoft office etc. Please help!!

Please help...I'm one of the many that purchased a cheap and cheerful medion from Aldi late last year. The machine itself is top drawer, apart from an issue with the sound. Whilst watching TV through the T.V tuner the sound will die of its own accord every minute or so? Upon opening up the Sound properties, it appears that the PC speaker has been muted, without intervention from my self? The problem is resolved by closing the application and reopening it again, but doing this every minute is asking a bit much!Has anyone got any clues or experienced anything similar? Any help greatly appreciated, cheers!

Answer:sound cutting off and on problems

I usually find sound problems are related to a faulty driver.
Try right click My Computer, click manage,go to devices, and find Audio Adapter SiS 7012 Audio Device, driver, and uninstall driver, then shut down, and restart, for Windows to find it, and reinstall it.
I suggest that you check for an updated driver for the audio, from Foxcon support, before uninstalling, as when you restart you could install the new driver.

Ok, so the problem is basic, but very annoying. The sound will cut off at random times, and I need to put the laptop in and out of sleep mode (basically close and open the screen) to get it to work again, temporarily. It happens regardless of whether I'm using my speakers or my headphones, so I think it's an issue with the sound card. It can sometimes happen once every few minutes, or even once every few seconds. It will never just randomly happen when no sound is playing, usually when I'm playing a game or producing/listening to music, though I get the feeling that harder the workload the more likely it is to cut out. It is VERY annoying. Below are my specs, let me know if you need more.Product name:HP ENVY 15 Notebook PCProduct number:E1P04AARTotal memory:8.00 GBProcessor name:Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHzOS: Windows 8.1Sound driver (or what I think it is): High Definition Audio DeviceIMPORTANT: I saw this problem in many other forums, and most people suggested updating the sound driver. It was up to date when this problem started. I rolled back the driver, and it made the problem less severe for a short amount of time. I am at my wit's end here, and it's very important that I get this problem solved. I'm trying my luck here before I actually have to go to an IT support guy or, worse, give my laptop in for repair. I appreciate any and all help! Ask me if you need more details! Also I have posted this exact problem in one or two other forums, I hope that does not ... Read more

Hi - I have a X230i, it has no sound at startup or when I launch a web page, I have to go to the Sound Settings, right click, play test, then sound comes.  then the entire laptop gets sound. I'm not sure why this happens at startup, the default is set to 'Speaker/HP Realktek High Definition Audio'. Installed Driver Version is 6.0.1.6617 I know there is a newer version of the driver but I believe it gives a error with Dolby. Would appreciate the feedback/help. This is a brand new laptop.

Backstory: I finally got around to performing some updates on my X230 that I usually keep on internal LAN running machines.  It has Win 7 Pro SP1 installed and I checked the update for KB2459268 through Lenovo's recommended software update at the time and thought nothing of it when everything installed and updated properly.  Restarting my machine and RDP to a host and everything worked as normal.  Then putting the X230 to sleep and.... the screen went off like normal, the power button did the usual beating light like normal, but the computer did not sleep!  It kept running and worst yet, did not respond whatsoever to ANY keyboard input, ctrl alt del, esc, power button, nothing!!!  I finally had to force shutdown and figured, probably a glitch.  Did the same process again and yep, it seemed to sleep.  Woke it up, tried it again, and sure enough, same issue (no sleep and no response). I kept getting the same issue for the next week so finally I did a clean install with Win 7 SP1 on a wiped drive, ran the lenovo software update with the KB checked, and tried it again.  SAME ISSUE!!!!  Now I was sure it wasnt a driver issue, and probably not hardware (I guess it could be).  So I uninstalled the KB from programs and features yesterday and the 4x times I used it, no issue.  Leads me to think there is something going on with the KB. How to replicate:Install KB.  Log into an RDP server using the X230.  Issue s... Answer:Windows update KB2459268 from Lenovo Software update broke my X230 on RDP/ sleep I think

The KB2459268 is Microsoft hotfix (not a regular important update) A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix. Uninstall it. It is 5 years old so it might be already resolved by a regular update. Do not install everything Lenovo offers, select individual updates only.

Hello everyone well here is my problem. For the past month or two i have had this weird sound issue that only happens when I am playing audio, games, movies, ect. I will just be watching a YouTube video or playing a game and my sound will just stop for about a second and will come back and it is compleatly random i have watched whole movies without it happening and other time it will happen so much that it makes the media unplayable. It seems this started when i got my new graphics card a Gigabyte amd 7870 oc but the card works fine no problem with it just seemed to happen when i got it and yes my drivers are up to date i have re installed every driver on my pc at least twice and re installed windows twice and it still persists I have even installed older drivers to no avail.

Answer:[SOLVED] Sound cutting in and out randomly

This might sound simplistic, but disconnect the speakers and untangle all the wires. While you have everything at hand, look for breaks in the wires.

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Qosmio x500 04n laptop. Here are the specifications:
http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/qosmio/x500/pqx33a-04n00j/specifications
So the problem with sound cutting out completely only occurs when I try to use my "Behringer Guitar/USB Interface" with a DAW program I installed called "Pro Tools First". What happens is that I activate the interface to be able to record my guitar in the 'Setup' drop-down menu, and then there's no sound from the program, or my computer in general. When I close Pro Tools, I can listen to music, or anything that involves sound.
I checked in the Device Manager for any new drivers for my sound card and everything is updated, at least according to Windows. I've contacted Avid, who manufacture this audio recording software and I've had no response.

I found this link and tried all the solutions provided with no success.
http://www.pro-tools-expert.com/hom...-to-check-if-there-is-no-sound.html#gsc.tab=0

If I forgot to mention anything, or screenshots are required, or if I'm posting in the wrong forum let me know!
Thanks!

I know some basics about computers but not enough to troubleshoot or fix this problem on my own.

Just recently I noticed my headphones' sound cutting out and coming back in (sound for a few seconds and silence for a few minutes). This problem hasn't gone away even after switching to my speakers. This hasn't happened before with the headphones or the speakers so I think it has to do with my soundcard.

I have no idea what is needed to troubleshoot, please tell me to add onto this:

Motherboard: Biostar TF 570 SLI
Sound Card: It's built into the motherboard
OS: Windows XP Professional x64 service pack 2
Device manager sound options is attached in a jpeg.
Headphones: Turtle Beach Ear Force HPA2 5.1 channel surround sound
Speakers: Some kind of Yamaha, 2 speakers 1 subwoofer.

Please help.

Hey everyone, I have a question regarding my Ideapad Y580 and a strange sound error I have been experiencing over the past few months. Windows 8.1 Pro w/ Media Centeri7 3630QM8GB RAMGTX660M500GB Samsung EVO 840 Ok here's the sound issue.  After using a program such as Minecraft, VLC, Nightingale, the sound will completely cut out.  When checking volumes, sound will not register.  Oftentimes, the sound control panel will say the device is busy. Things I've tried so far:1) Disabled Realtek Digital Output2) Installed latest driver3) Checked current processes for remnants of programs using the sound card.. nothing. Sometimes when I have one of the programs open, for example playing minecraft, when I start a video in VLC, there will be no sound.  The only sound comes from the game. The only thing that really restores the audio is a full restart of the system.  Logging out and back in will not restore the sound.Has anyone experienced this issue?  Is there a way to fix this problem?  Thanks guys!

Answer:Ideapad Y580 sound cutting out

One suggestion..... have you tried uninstalling the audio driver, reboot the computer and then install a fresh copy of the driver.  If the previous driver installation was faulty, installing the latest driver may have not corrected the problem.

Hey,
I'm uploading radio station music from GTA 3 to YouTube using Windows Live Movie Maker from the Grand Theft Auto 3 play disc audio files. I've done part 1, because it's a 22 minute repeat radio station on GTA, so I have to split it into parts, I cut it out to do the second part so I got the second part for 9 minutes using WavePad, but when I save it the file is not compatible with WLMM. How do I cut the music out for parts? Please help

Hello,

I have a Windows 7 Asus P8Z77-V PC, with 12GB RAM that has two graphics card. My primary card is a AMD Radeon HD 7800 series and a AMD Radeon HD 6450.

Now, the sounds or music that play on my computer would randomly cut off every couple of minutes. I am using HDMI to connect the graphics card 7800 to my Vizio HDTV. I can't really determine the cause of the fading music.

I don't really know how else to phrase this but the 0's are the music playing and the blank spaces in between are what cuts it off:

0000000000000000 0000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000
and so forth. I am also using an RCA Home Theatre System RTD209 that's connected on a splitter using the AUX cable and that's also connected to the back of the TV. I also figured out that both TV and the Speaker systems were both experiencing this problem. I thought it was just my HTS. But I have a hunch that it has something to do with my video card drivers. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I hope I made some sense. Any questions will be answered to help clarify things. Thanks again.

Answer:Sound cutting off at random times

I don't know how dual video cards would work with the HDMI audio. If both video cards have HDMI audio enabled, maybe one is conflicting. If both do have HDMI audio and both are enabled, disable the HDMI audio for the 6450 in the Device Manager and see if that makes any difference.

Although Windows will only allow one default sound playback device, again I don't know what the two video cards would do or cause.

Every 5 seconds or so, my sound will cut out for about half a second and then come back. This only happens during in-game videos (like when Call of Duty 5 is loading a mission) or while a game is starting up (like when Borderlands is flashing its creator logos before the game menu appears). The sound works fine during actual gameplay, for music (iTunes), or any other sounds on my system. Please help!

Sometime I can start up OK, other it won't start at all & just get this continuous beeping noise. Other times it just cuts out during start up and starts beeping at me. Could be related to a display problem I'm having with colour flickering on and off on the monitor. One minute it's green, then blue, red, black before going back to normal colour. Nothing reported in device manager as not working properly. Any ideas? Thanks.

The beeping is beep codes to tell you whats wrong click here it depends on the make of your BIOS it will tell you when it starts up AWARD BIOS or AMI BIOS or whatever. Find out which you have, listen for the beeps and check them against the list.

Answer:New Lenovo X230

You can do two things: 1. Go to Windows Anytime Upgrade and purchase the Pro feature. This is the easiest way to upgrade, but it costs a small amount to do this. 2. Try booting from the Windows 7 DVD and see if it will let you start it and install the upgrade. You will need the license key from the Windows 7 DVD to do this. ... JDH

Answer:Satellite L750 suddenly started cutting off the sound

>i tried everything to fix it on google but no chance,

hmm?. I?m not quite sure what you have tried to solve this problem exactly but first of all the notebook should be test using the Toshiba factory settings.
Why?
This is simple: some 3rd party software, updates or setting changes which have been made in the past, could cause such sound problems.

I guess this issue is software released because after an system reboot the sound appeared again.

Of course, you could try also some common workarounds like new sound driver installation or you could clean the system using the freeware software like CCleaner but to me at this moment the Toshiba recovery procedure looks as the best workaround.

By the way: did you check if there is an difference using the headphones?

Hello, please can you help me solve this problem.

Suddenly, in the last few days days the sound just cuts out if I am watching content......ie iPlayer, YouTube etc.

If I reconnect to the content the sound is fine but then a few moments later it disconnects again.
It was all working fine until now.

I am elderly so please explain simply as I am not used to technical stuff, pathetic I know but I am trying hard!

Best regards.

Answer:Satellite L750 - sound keeps cutting out every couple of minutes

Does sound cut out completely or you can hear it every few seconds?
Have you installed some updates or done anything that can be responsible for this?

Of course, on this virtual way it is not easy to say why this happen. Try to roll back OS to earlier time, just to see if the problem will persist.

Do you know how to do this?

Question: Lenovo X230 setup

Hi, everyone,A quick question. I have an x230 on the way and am looking to set up my workspace in a specific way. Here is what I want: an external monitor that will allow me to move the cursor from the laptop screen to the other monitor. So, in essence, a dual monitor set-up but with the laptop screen as one of the monitors. I would also like to be able to use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse while in this set-up. Do I need the UltraSeries 3 dock, or something else? Thanks!Parker

Answer:Lenovo X230 setup

Hi, Parker

You should be able to accomplish this without a docking station. The X230 supports a dual independent display and has a VGA port and a Mini DisplayPort. So if you have a monitor with one of these connections and hook it up to your laptop, then it should work. You will need to make sure that you Extend the display and not Duplicate it. Duplicate will give you the same image on both screens. You can just use Win + P to set it appropriately.

As for the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you should have no issues here either. Provided Bluetooth is turned on in the system and you have compatible Bluetooth peripherals, it should work like a charm once they've been paired.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hello,So, first of all, I'm not english, so I'm sorry for the following mistakes.Let's start.1 year ago I've bought a lenovo x230 netbook with Windows 8, intel core i7 + 8 gb ram + SSD. [still using these specs]Okay. After 1 month of usage, the display started to have some problems. From the left to right, the 3/7 part of the display is changing in all the colors while using. It depends on what color is the page opened. If it's white, this part of the display is black with some "running" white lines, if it's blue - red and so on.No problem ; acording to the warranty, the display has been changed. It was ok.Since august 2014 I didn't use the laptop again. I started using it in April 2015. In may, the display started to have that problem again, but I've read on your forum that I need to put the display on 60Hz and on High performance mode to fix it, and that's what I did. At the beggining of June, the problem was back, and it is still on 60Hz and high performance mode.3 days ago, my laptop started to make another problem ; CHARGING.It doesn't want to charge.  If I just plug in, it stays with the battery on 0%, and it doesn't open because of the missing electricity, but I've realised something. If I move the end of the charger [near the part which get into that yellow circle where the end of the charger must be, hope you understand] higher than 10-15 CMs it DOES charge. But now it doesn't charge even if I put it in the position I've said before. [by the way, in the... Read more

Just did shut down on my lenovo x230. When restarting the PC by pressing the power button, he looks like he is restarting, then nothing happens. Hardware buttons not active, screen is black. Nothing I can do... PC doesn't react to anything. Was working fine before shut down. What is wrong??? What can I do? Help!

Answer:lenovo x230 - Does not boot!!!

fre_madrid,1. unplug power cable and battery, press and hold the power button during 30 sec, plug the battery and cable again, try to boot laptop.2. OR if you are familiar with disassembling of keyboard and palmrest do it, then unplug connector of small yellow battery under palmrest (near FPR) during several minuts. Assemble the laptop and try to boot. If laptop will boot go to BIOS setup, press F9 and save default settings, set and save your settings. If that actions will not resolve the issue I'm afraid you have to contact with Lenovo support.

Hi All! I'm sorry to sound like a bit of a newb here, but i'm looking for a little bit of assistance with my x230 laptop.  I bought the laptop back in september with windows 7 professional.  A couple months later, I upgraded to windows 8 only to not really like it too much and decide for now I want to revert back to Windows 7.  Not knowing what my options were, I installed Windows 7 Ultimate back on the machine through an external cd drive, but now I'm missing about 100gb from my main drive, I ordered a 500gb 7200 rpm drive but now I only have about 350 GB available after the clean install.  I wasn't too sure how the recovery options on the x230 worked.  I see that next to my main C drive, there is another drive there located "Recovery" It has about 75% of the disk space being taken up but there is absolutely nothing within the actual drive when I actually click it.  It's probably too late, but is there any way to actually take my laptop back to the way it was when I first bought it? I only ask because it seems there's something on that recovery drive but I just can't figure out what it is.  I would appreciate any help at all, I'm sorry for sounding like such a newb with this stuff!

Answer:Lenovo x230 Recovery

Hi, Flyerfan16

If you are viewing your drives in Disk Management, how big is the Recovery partition? The partitions from Lenovo are normally between 7 GB and 10 GB when the machine ships. If the original partition is still on the drive, then you should be able to recover to the settings when the machine was first purchased.

You can attempt recovery by starting the machine as normal and then pressing Enter repeatedly to interrupt startup. A menu should then appear, with an option available to recover your system. Press the associated key for this action and then follow the prompts. If all works well, you should be able to go back to the way it was. If you choose this option, make sure to back up all files that you wish to keep that are currently on the system.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I would wan to find out if I can install  mSATA SSD 128gb into the x230 and main harddrive as a storage?

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:Lenovo Think Pad x230 and mSATA SSD

Hi, odessit

This should be possible. There is a slot for an mSATA drive in the X230, as shown here. Also shown in that link is that an mSATA is a user-replaceable part. After purchasing your SSD, then all you will need to do is install it per the instructions here (pp. 70) Also, you will likely need to download this firmware update after installing the drive. This will allow the BIOS to recognize the SSD if you plan to use it as the C: drive of the system. The update can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Dear all, I jsut got a x240 and really liked the QuickConnect app from Lenovo, which works great for my job (I can use my Android phone as a remote presenter, keyboard, etc.). I was wondering if I can install quick connect in my x230. I know that Lenovo says it's only for the x240, but since it connects via Bluetooth, I don't see why it wouldn't work with the X230. Doe anyone have any experience with this? Thank you. R.

Question: no sound on x230

Hi,I have a strange problem on my Thinkpad X230 (win7 64 bit, realtek drivers). After installing all drivers from Lenovo support page, everything was working well, then suddenly the sound was gone. No system sounds, no music, no video, nothing. What I tried:- reinstalling the drivers - Realtek High Definition Audio Driver  v. 6.0.1.7040, released 2013. 11. 11- uninstalling dolby- uninstall the Lenovo recommended drivers and installing generic ones from Realtek site (version 6.0.1.7541, released 2015.06.18)Every time the same happens: restart system, I have system sounds then after a few minutes the sound is gone.I mean I understand if I have no sound from start, it must be a hw problem or something, but how can something work for a while and be gone after? many thanks.

Hi everyone,

I bought a Satellite P500-12D back in Dec'09 and ever since I tried to use the integrated microphone, I had issues with low volume or sound cutting off.

It was particularly annoying when using Skype - people complained about barely hearing me, and sometimes the sound was too high.

To begin with I tried with an external microphone (from a basic headset with microphone) and the volume was definitely louder than with the integrated microphone. I had to adjust a bit the volume (between 0-100) and the microphone gain (0dB - 30dB), located in the "Levels" tab of the microphone properties.

However, when using the integrated microphone, I only had 2 options :
- Keep the "enable audio enhancements" checked (this is in the "Advanced Statistics" tab of microphone properties -> In this case, the microphone level was quite ok but the sound kept cutting off - just like what people described to me.
- Uncheck the "enable audio enhancements" box -> In this case, the sound was no longer cutting off, but the volume was very very low, even with microphone volume at 100 and +30dB gain !

I eventually sent my laptop for repair (since it never worked for me) thinking it had to be a hardware problem eventually... it just came back - the feedback was they had tested the laptop extensively and it had no issue. It obviously drove me crazy, all the more since I tried again a basic recording and the volume was just as low !

Answer:Lenovo X230 FingerPrint Error

If you re-installed Windows and this problem still happens, I'd say there's a strong possibility that your fingerprint sensor has failed and needs to be replaced.  Even if the device looks OK in Device Manager, this really doesn't mean much.  All it means is that Windows can talk to the USB device that hosts the fingerprint sensor, but the fingerprint sensor itself could still be malfunctioning.

Some things that can help confirm hardware problem:
1.  Shut the system off, does fingerprint green LED flash slowly?  If so it means that the sensor contains some fingerprint templates so lets try to clear them.
2.  Turn the system on and press F1 to enter BIOS setup
3.  Go to the Security menu and choose Fingerprint, then clear the fingerprint sensor.  You should see a message about success or failure.  Failure definitely means HW problem.
4.  If you see a message about success clearing the fingerprint sensor from BIOS, then shut the system off again.  The green LED should not be flashing anymore because you cleared the sensor in BIOS.  If the green LED still flashes, then it means HW problem because the fingerprint templates were not really cleared.

So try the above steps to try to confirm the HW problem, or just call service in your country and request help.

Hey everyone!I ordered a x230 a few weeks ago and i realized i need bluetooth! I know i can purchase a dongle for a few dollars but i rather keep my USB ports free.Anyone know where I can purchase a bluetooth card so i can install it myself? - Or is it advised not to do that. What do you think I should do?

Answer:Lenovo x230 missing bluetooth!

2 options come to my mind1) you can look for bluetooth expresscard (x220 has a slot, so I'm guessing x230 has it as well)2) you can put it in mini-PCIe slot (for the WWAN card or mSATA SSD), assuming it's empty now, ie. you purchased without WWAN

I have a Lenovo x230 laptop with an i7 processor that starts the second time. This means that when you first turn on, there is a black screen. The restart must be forced and then normally turns on. I tried to use an external screen, tricks with disconnecting the battery and pressing the switch, CMOS battery, RAM memory replacement - nothing did not succeed. On this motherboard, the service replaced the BIOS chips due to failure in the upgrade. They said that the computer would not work anyway. The computer, however, works, but after the second launch - which is annoying. I have updated the BIOS on my own, which did not solve the problem. Once the computer starts, it works very steadily and without problems. I have not found a similar case anywhere on the internet.

I've bought the Lenovo X230 with the broken battery (the PM showes 68% charging and no more, asks for the battery replacement). I've tried 3 different good-working batteries from X220 which were supposed to work on X230, but they don't. When starting the laptop with that battery, it stops with the information:" The battery installesd is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system. Press the ESC to continue".  And after pressing the ESC key, it starts to work, but the PM still writes that the battery is not correct and it doesn't charge. What could it be?

Only hw protected batteries 44 series are being supported by x230 (and 19+ series, external).Batteries of 29 series can only be discharged in x230.Try to perform the original (x230's) battery reset using Lenovo power manager feature.

Realized I posted this in the wrong place and it really belongs here I decided to look around to make sure my computer was even able to run an external GPU and found I have hit a wall. I flashed my BIOS to the newest version (like 2.67 or something?) but my TOLUD is 3.5 GB (dfa00000). I thought the BIOS update was supposed to fix this? I only have 8GB of RAM so the 16GB problem shouldn't affect me either? Anyone know what might be wrong? When reading some forums I saw that people who updated their BIOS were able to fix their problem as long as they only had 8 gigs of ram, which is why im confused I still have DFA00000. Will it still work regaurdless of this? I thought the update was supposed to fix this.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X230 (which I love dearly) and have a few question about ports and booting.  I would first like to verify that the port on the left side of the laptop directly above one of the USB ports is indeed an ExpressCard 54.  I have searched the web, but have yet to find a definite answer, and my user manual simply stated "ExpressCard."  Furthermore, I would like to know if it is possible to boot an operating system from said port using an ExpressCard 34 SSD (64GB).  I have the intention of installing openSUSE 12.3 to the potential SSD and be able to boot from it.  I greatly appreciate any help.  I  would post an image of said port, but I am being told the image file is much too large.

I want to be able to boot my X230 in UEFI only (CSM off). Lenovo media for X230 does not seem to be UEFI bootable, so I boot it with CSM on. The Recovery program asks about the GPT or MBR partitioning with the explanation that with GPT it will be bootable in UEFI only. But when I reboot after recovery and turn CSM off, the "Starting Windows" screen freezes endlessly. There is some hdd activity, but no Windows are loaded.Any clue what went wrong and how to fix it? Thanks.

Answer:X230: win 7 x64 in uefi using lenovo recovery media

You need to enable CSM when ever booting to external devices, so that is normal.     The difference between GPT and MBR is that the newer GPT is more robust, secure and allows more partitions and better error recovery, but both should work.   If you press and hold down the [F8] key, and then turn on the comptuter, do you get the option to boot in to Safe Mode, and if so can you boot in to Safe Mode, or Safe Mode with Networking? I presume that you are recoverying due to a prior problem, so more informaiton on why you were recovering may be helpful. Best of luck

I just received a new compay issues computer: x230 running Windows Pro 64 bit, Office 2010 and an SSD.  Unfortunately, out of the box the pointing devices, either the ultranav or an external mouse and keyboard (MSFT Sculpt), suffer from auto clicking and inability to input text...the text writes over itself...cursor moves forward and then backspaces on itself. The external keyboard worked fine when tested on other notebooks at home.  I did unistall the MSFt keyboard SW on the x230 to see if that made a difference.  Nope.  My IT team remotely updated all drivers, etc. So, everthing system-wise is up to date.  They seemed to have fixed it for about an hour, then it went back to this behavior, including opening multiple instances of applications on its own. The PC is unusable. Thoughts? Halfcalf18

Even on my cable connection it would take a very long time to see those things. I can't tell if it's just gigantic images or a slow server on your end since I can't download them to check the sizes.
