Network File Crashes W8 Photo App/Not Photo Viewer

Question: Network File Crashes W8 Photo App/Not Photo Viewer

I have my photos stored on an unRAID server. I can browse to these files and open the photos in Windows Photo Viewer. However, if I try to open in Win 8 Photos, the app crashes and I get the error message:

Windows cannot access \\ path to photos
You do not have permission to access \\ path to photos.

I seem to be able to share all file types other than photos. Win 8 Video will open a video file from the same directory that Photo will not. Also, since the photo files will open in Photo Viewer, this doesn't seem to be a permission issue on the server end. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I am looking all over to find an answer to my question about the windows photo viewer and cannot find anywhere. Please if you can't answer my question at least set me in the right direction??? When I go to print, it tells me that I can choose
only the "full photo" size. I know it also has choices of wallet, 5x7, double picture side by side, stuff like that. It will not ever show up when I hit print and go to put in all the variables for how I want the picture to be printed. Where are
my choices? how do I find them, why are they not available on my photo viewer print option? I am working on an asus laptop, I think it is an 8.1 operateing system. But,,, I also have the same problem with my other laptops and desk top  programs. It will
not give me the option to print out wallet size pictures or any of the other options except "Full Photo". Help! Thank you in advance. Oh and I have no idea where to find the answer to this question so I am giving you my email to send it too if your
able. Please send to don ee me be at hot mail .com (I hope you figure this out because it says I can't send you any links and now I don't know how to get your answers. ) . Please this has been a mystery for the last 3 years now.
I give up trying to find a repair on my own. I am not so tech savvy. Again, thank you, thank you , thank you in advance. sincerely, donna

My boss has an Epson P-7000 digital photo viewer. The other day, after he had taken the pictures off of it, he formatted it. I guess he thought that he was formatting the SD card, but he ended up formatting the unit instead. Now, when you turn it on, you get an error message that says "Invalid File System, please power off the device".

I figured that the best way to fix this was to update the firmware. However, it won't let me get that far. Epson and their local authorized repair shop tell me that he needs to send it in for a total system repair because there is something wrong with the mobo. Personally, I think that's probably BS but, after googling, I can find absolutely nothing on this issue.

Has anyone seen this before, or have any ideas on how to fix it before I tell my boss to go pay the $300 for the repairs?

Thanks,
Brian

Answer:Invalid File System (Epson P-7000 photo viewer)

Are you sure about that? If plugging it into the computer made it look like a drive with the images on it then he probably did format the card.

If he formatted the unit then I suspect it will need servicing. But if he just formatted the card...

All camera memory cards use FAT32 as the file system for memory cards. He may have formatted it using NTFS. Try reformatting it either in the camera (best) or specifically select Fat32 from the drop list when formating it on the desktop. Note that Fat32 is not available for devices over 16 gig or something though. You can use a program called "Swiss Knife" if you need to format a drive Fat32 that Windows won't let you.

Windows 10 entered my computer when the auto update for windows 8.1 came on. My computer went bad! Spent about 10 hours on the phone with Microsoft techs. For example, I sent an e-mail to some friends with photos (not in attachments, but straight on the e-mail).
When the person received the e mail and opened the attachment with a photo, they gained entry to my total personal photo collection! I am now back to windows 8.1, one drive has been disabled. However, I am left with the problem that When I go to my folder with my photos and click on a thumbnail to enlarge it, I get an error message. The photo won't enlarge.
Can anyone help me fix that problem?

Answer:WLX Photo Viewer .dll

This is commonly used in FastView/Total Commander Lister Plugins/File Maker Pro/Live Mesh/Will Expert

If Windows is unable to open files with the extension .WLX you may not have the appropriate program installed or, you may have registry errors (possible due to a reg cleaner).

Re-install the program, and stop using reg cleaners (if you are using one).

My Norton Internet Security stopped a Trojan from executing, but ever since, when I click on a photo to view it, I get a small window that says that "Windows can't open this file." and then gives me the choice to find a program online to open it or choose from a list of installed programs; Windows Photo Viewer will always work from this list.
(I don't know if it matters or not, but under "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel, Windows Photo Viewer is not listed; I don't know if it should be or not.) I tried using "System Restore" to no avail. It's strange to me that the Photo Viewer is on the list of programs to open a file with, but not available to normal use.
Is there a way to reinstall the Microsoft Photo Viewer so that it automatically functions at the proper times? It's a real pain to have to go to the list every time I want to view a photo. Anyone's help would be deeply appreciated!
Thank you ahead of time!

BTW... Once I've picked the photo viewer from the list, it functions normally until I leave the folder/file I'm using.

go to a picture you want to view right click on it and choose open with then from the list choose photo viewer then put a check mark in the box that says always use selected program to open this kind of file. see if that works next time you try to view a picture file

Question: No photo viewer

I bought a new laptop with Win 10 and saw it does not have windows photo viewer. What is a good free substitute?

Answer:No photo viewer

Apparently it's still there but you may have to edit the registry to make it accessible as shown here :- http://www.howtogeek.com/225844/how...ewer-your-default-image-viewer-on-windows-10/
Safest way would be to download the .reg file at the link and run that.
BUT if you upgraded to 10 from 7 or 8.1 you won't need to change any registry settings. It's all explained at the link.

I want a program/app that will open a photo from explorer, will provide flip/rotate and delete options, and will shift to the next photo simply. A photo library organizer and integrated photo editor etc are not wanted by me.

Many thanks for your suggestion.

Press the Restore button, if it exists.

Press OK

Hey guys,

I've been facing problems lately. It seems that after few Windows 8.1 updates, my Photo Viewer has stopped working. I'm not sure what's up but it says "Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because either Photo Viewer doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Viewer."

Here's a screenshot. I've set the red arrow as an example of two PNG files, one works fine while the other seems to be corrupted. I am not exactly sure what to do, it seems that saving images as PNG in Paint works just fine, but not when downloading files from the internet. And yes, Photo Viewer is set as default.

I've also run sfc/scannow but it says it did detect corrupted files but couldn't fix them.

In the Windows Update I can see lots of failed attempts to install/update some files, and I'm not sure if because of that, Photo Viewer doesn't work. One thing I also noticed that in Properties, the Photo Viewer icon is broken (not the usual one as always)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I like Windows Photo Viewer and this impostor has taken over my machine. It probably came from a recent "Upgrade?". Now when I click on the lower left window. I get an also black window.
So I have two questions how do I get ride of this unwanted program that was made the default view, which means extra step to review an image.

Second how do I get back the white window for general information, like getting to the Control Panel?

I can not figure out how to keep the image from being posted twice

I'm having a small problem with Windows Photo Viewer. Well, I don't know if it's just how it was setup, but it seems like when I view a photo using Windows Photo Viewer it seems like a hint vanilla is added to the picture. It seems to do this regardless of whether I have the picture just opened or if it's zoomed in. The only time it doesn't do this is during a slideshow. I'm attaching a picture to show what I mean about how the color is slightly different. Any help anyone can offer on this is appreciated.

-Also, it does this with every photo I've tried so far and with just about every image format I can think of.

Hi
my dads photo viewer in windows 8 does not like to print a whole picture over wifi network to his Epson xp312 wifi printer.
it prints fine over usb and his win7 laptop over wifi.
ive tried updated drivers, removed colour management profiles, selected install new printer in photoviewer, and replacing photowiz.dll and done a scannow repair still getting error printing full page.

Ive brought it home with me and can get it to print fine to my wifi canon mg4150.

im in the middle of installing win7 instead of win8 and hope to sort it out, if not I don't know what to do.

I NEED help if anyone has any ideas please share
Thank you

Answer:Photo Viewer problem

Hi there

I tend to use things like Photoshop so I can't say exactly what's going wrong - perhaps you should look at the PRINTING options -- perhaps you need to get the printer to automatically re-size the photo to the size of paper being used -- remember also that US stuff often defaults to LETTER whereas European is A4 for a full sheet -- the two sizes aren't identical and often can cause hose ups.

Most photo editing software and even cheap printers allow all sorts of scaling / re-sizing etc.

I have just recovered from a home XP SP1 system loss and now feeling my feet in Home XP SP2. Can you advise how to set the default media options, i.e. when a photo, CD, DVD etc.,attachment in mail, comes in, which software package will be utised by selected default setting ?

Answer:Default Photo Viewer

Find the file you want to choose for and right click it holding down the "shift" key also and choose "open with". You must choose "browse to" and thef find the program you want to use so that when you choose it and then click it, then make sure you put a check mark in the box that states "always use this program top open this file" and then that file will always open with that program.

As the title says. Any one else experience Windows Photo Viewer being really slow to Render and browse through pictures?

I've had this issue for a while, and just recently figured out the cause and thought I'd share in case it helps others.

Windows Photo Viewer was really slow, even to open w/a SSD drive, yet all other Photo Viewing Programs seem to work OK.

With the new Win instal, everything was just fine.
Then went to being slow again. The only thing that had changed was that I had ran the Windows Color Calibration just before it all went bad.

So what I had to do to fix it:

Control Panel/Color Management/ Advanced Tab

Delete the Windows Calibrated Color Profile
Set the sRGB IEC61966 as default (Windows native default profile)

Reboot and all was fixed.

Run Windows Color Calibration and all goes bad again when rendering photos.

Anyone else experience this and have a better solution? Or if anyone has noticed this, it very well may be the cause for you as well.

Answer:Photo Viewer SLOW for anyone else?

SOLUTION - At some stage you probably color calibrated your display using the tool in Windows 7. As soon as you remove this calibration profile speed will return to normal.

Right Click Desktop -> Screen Resolution -> Advanced Settings -> Color Management -> Color Management -> Advanced -> Change System Defaults

Then click on the default profile (the one you are using now) and click Remove. The profile should have some string in it like 'calibrated' ( I forget, I just deleted mine ). Make sure the new default profile does not have the 'calibrated' string in it. When you click Remove you will probably note some change in the screen colors as another profile becomes the default.

Now suddenly the image viewer will be lightning fast.
Go figure.

Hi.

I am using build 10147 now, and Windows Photo Viewer is not working here as it used to. The new look/appearence of the Photos App is very cool, but is there any third party software that can be an alternative of the good old Windows Photo Viewer?

I want a program/app that will open a photo from explorer, will provide flip/rotate and delete options, and will shift to the next photo simply. A photo library organizer and integrated photo editor etc are not wanted by me.

Many thanks for your suggestion.

Answer:Alternative to Photo Viewer.

I have used Vueprint in the past and it is very simple to use.

Hi there

I believe you're viewing your backedup photos? (i.e. Start > Photos > Collection) this is the backedup photos from your phone/tablet to onedrive, you can delete, view and share them, but you can't control them I think.

if you are in fact looking at the Pictures in your library, then I'm not sure what's happening and maybe someone else could chip in.

Anyone have any clue why all image files show up tinted sepia in windows photo viewer (right side of pic). I included the same file open in MSPaint on the left, and the actual game in the background to compare.

I thought at one point disabling my background wallpaper caused images to show normally in win Photo viewer, but I guess I was wrong. I did change something once to make them appear correctly (and with a white instead of tan background in photo viewer) but I can't remember what!

*Sigh* Sorry, I figured it out, i was googling the wrong term before. Deleting default color profile assigned to my monitor fixed it.

This sector of TSG I think is the nearest to what I'm trying to find out about. I am using Windows 8.1 and my question is, "Is Windows Photo Viewer only available to view photo's when a device is connected".
I have a load of photo's taken on my mobile which now I can only view on WPV when the mobile's connected. I have tried to locate it to view images but without a hit. I know its there some where because when I go down the list of program files on OS. (C) drive, it is there but I don't know how to access it unless the mobile is connected via usb. So my second question is, "Where and how, if possible can I locate it to bring up to the screen".
I'll keep my fingers crossed, thanks

Not a major problem for me, but a bit distracting.
The problem is the WPV over-saturates any photos I'm looking at. They look fine in Photoshop, bridge, web browser, but always slightly over-saturated with extra blacks thrown in, even cranked ISO. Doesn't happen with all photos, but mainly the ones I took with my camera. I'm working on W7, any knowledge on this would be great, thanks.

As usual, I am a step (or 3) behind -- still fooling with w7 while v8 is becoming dominant...

My question: The "photo and fax" viewer in xp had features that are not present in the w7 version of that tool, so I was wondering -- is there is a (cheap-2-free) viewer available for w7x64 that I could use? The main feature I miss is the more nuanced magnification mode that adds sliders top and side so the whole image can be enlarged and fully viewed. The w7 viewer simply has a slider that magnifies from center-outward, but does not allow viewing the whole image when enlarged.

Obviously, this is not a huge problem or emergency -- and I do have other, more sophisticated image tools, but I sometimes just want to scan through sequential pix without modifying / editing them. And it seems odd to me that the newer OS version would have a less versatile native image tool than good ol' XP.

Thanx for any and all suggestions. Again, I am not looking for high-end image editing tools, just something closer to the capacities of the XP tool.

Answer:digital photo viewer keychain

Welcome to TSG.
If you connected the chain per USB, it will show up in Explorer as Photoviewer. (as a drive in XP) You don't need a cd.
There is a zip file, but I clicked on the Photoviewer.exe file and the program comes up with a panel to move pictures from any folder.
Maybe you have to wait first, till it recharges the built-in battery, see how far the bar is on the viewer when plugged into the computer. I have successfully transferred pictures to it.
When not plugged in, you have to turn it on and push the arrows up or down to see the pictures.

When I open a picture on my desktop, the background color is some ugly yellowish off-white color. It's the normal shade on my laptop (as well as at work, where I have 10 Enterprise)

Here are a couple comparison shots using the same image.

On the laptop (I like this color)
On the desktop:
See how it's a yellower color? And what's weird is the white text in the background is ALSO that yellow color.

I know when I open Photoshop, I get some message about an invalid monitor color profile, so I'm thinking Windows created some "profile" for my monitor that it's trying to adjust colors to match, and it's really doing nothing but causing trouble.

My monitors look fine with just the standard un-adjusted colors that Windows 7 had, and other "dumb" programs like Paint. But the photo viewer seems to do what Photoshop is trying to do and adjust my colors for some reason.

Is it possible to wipe those color profiles and just tell it to treat the monitor like a generic PnP monitor without anything special? I'm using DVI so it's able to query the monitor and find its model... other than that, I don't really know what's going on.

If it means anything to anyone, I have an AMD Radeon 380X graphics card, and ... Read more

If you open that same image in Windows Paint, does the same thing happen?

Hello, this message is for Brink.

Just to let you know your tip for making the photo viewer app work in 10 has worked nearly perfectly: but i did discover one small issue and i was hoping you'd know what causes it, and that you could post it and email it to me.

when I open the viewer, I cannot scroll beyond the last photo (returning to the first photo in the directory) Also, when I open any photo after the first one, I cannot scroll backward to the first one. for example, if i have 10 pictures and i open picture 5, i cannot loop back to pictures 1 2 3 or 4. if i open picture 1 i can scroll forward to picture 10, and back to picture 1, but if i open picture 10, i can only see picture 10. i cannot carousel around the photos in that directory. it seems to be linear and not looping.

I hope that this is an easy fix. We are going to 10 at my jobsite and so far the photo store had wreaked havoc on us. we have since disabled the store, but that disables all store related apps and functions, which defaults pictures to MSPAINT. So, i was hoping to get back to the windows 7 photo viewer and happened upon your advice (thank you), and im hoping for just one more tweak to make it perfect.

How can I get DNG files to open with Windows Photo Viewer?

Answer:DNG Files in Windows Photo Viewer

You might want to read this (older) article that goes up through Windows 7, and hope it applies to 8 and 10 as well: How to view DNG thumbnails in Windows. On the other hand, you might want to grab a DNG capable codec instead. Here's one from Adobe that may do just want you want it to in Windows Photo Viewer: Adobe DNG Codec.HTH,

It's known that the Photo viewer in explorer of W7 is extremely slow with large files.
It takes forever since it time and again crawls trough the files.
The Firestone Viewer for instance is much faster.

However, if you like to upload to Photobucket, you are directed to that silly Windows routine that runs like an old snail.

Is there a way to speed up that proces?
Found somewhere the option to prevent the cache from being cleared.
But it won't work with conflicting permissions. The system may clear things and the user account may not?

(By the way, I haven't created any monitor profiles)

Answer:Windows Photo Viewer very slow

Even of you havent created any monitor profiles... its good to check if the color management Device profile is set to the system default (sRGB IEC61966-2.1)..

do you have printers installed. ??? what color profile are they using....??

if you are trying to view RAW camera images... try to update photo viewer with the RAW support....
