Ms office users -- Note Windows Live Messenger is closing Mar 2013

Question: Ms office users -- Note Windows Live Messenger is closing Mar 2013

Hi there
I've posted on the Ms Office section in the W7 Forum info that Windows Live Messenger is closing in Mar 2013 and being replaced by SKYPE (which Ms bought sometime in 2011.

I know a lot of Ms office users use Live messenger so prepare for the switch. Ms Lync is fine if you have a Lync server otherwise SKYPE isn't too bad.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Ms office users -- Note Windows Live Messenger is closing Mar 2013

Hi Jimbo45, I noticed the article on the BBC Home page while looking for UK News - you may have noticed that BBC shipped almost all their staff to USA to report on the election and they call that news (?)
However back to the point. Having read the article I then via Skype downloaded the Metro UI Tile for Skype and opened an account and it did as stated and imported my Messenger contacts.
I've yet to link-up with anyone and hopefully that will go as well as the merge.
Regards.
Yorky.

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help.
Everytime i sign into windows live messenger, it closes down on me, after 3 seconds I went to uninstall it, but it doesn't seem to be in the add/remove programmes, and i'm pretty much pulling my hair out over it. Can anyone help me, pleaseeeeee? thanks

Answer:Windows Live Messenger Keeps Closing On Me! :(

Try uninstalling/changing Windows Live Essentials. Before you actually uninstall anything you will get the chance to select Windows Live Messenger and leave other Windows Live applications alone. (This is true for Windows 7; pretty sure it's the same for XP.)

Hi there
not sure if this has been posted already but WLM is being replaced with SKYPE as from Mar 2013.

I know a lot of Ms Office users use Windows Live Messenger (although LYNC seems good if you can connect to a server)

BBC News - Microsoft ditches Windows Live Messenger for Skype

Makes sense -- silly to have the same company supplying competing products.

Answer:Windows Live messenger to close Mar 2013

I read something about that yesterday. But really, I doubt they will really close and forget about MSN, at most they will stop updating it, but I guess it will still function as normal. It would be really stupid to shut down THE instant messenger, by far the most widely known chat program since many years, while Skype remains largely unknown for many people.

The only good part is that Skype is technically years ahead of MSN, but since version 4 is becoming worse and even more since it was bought by MS.

Answer:windows live mail and Yahoo messenger wont stay on keeps closing

Hello!!! First tell us if you have Service Pack 1 installed for Windows 7 or not. Do you have any Internet Security suites installed or any third party firewall software installed? You have asked a good question asking if it may be a firewall or security software since from what I am reading you are using an email client. We will not assume any potential viruses yet, also because we here at the Microsoft Support portion of TSF we can not help you with that.

We have a computer in our office that will be changing users. This shuffling of computers is a pretty common thing in our office - as new computers are acquired, the existing ones are often shuffled around to different users. However this machine has Office 2013 on it, which is somehow "tied" to the Microsoft account of the previous user, using that person's personal email address and credentials.

How can I get the machine to work with the new user (Active Director user on our office network domain)? I have heard that Office 2013 can be transferred to another computer, but that is not happening here. It needs to be used by a different user.

What can we do?

Although recently, when I click the google chrome icon - it does not launch and when I enter ANY password (correct/incorrect) and sign in to Windows Live Messenger - the program immediately closes.

Could someone help me with this, I will follow each step as you suggest, thanks alot.

With the widespread reports of system issues emanating from Windows Updates, I recommend everyone become familiar with SFC and DISM (google the terms).  Often your monitor will go blank and since you can't fix anything on a PC by Braille, the only solution is to completely power down.  Make sure your HDD LEDs are not showing activity before you shut down...  It could be that an update is being installed, (yes, this goes on while the screen is dark and it could take hours!) with the possibility of corrupting your BCD file (as happened to me).  Have a bootable OS media file available just in case.  You can do an OS repair if you have a bootable CD/USB media file, even if it is Windows 7.  As a matter of fact, I did this and was able to build a dual boot win7/win10 bcd.  If Windows 10 won't boot, I have a fall-back to Windows 7.

Answer:Problem of video chat with Yahoo messenger - Windows Live messenger or skype

Hello sweeta, as i read your post, the solution that comes to mind is for you to confirm your settings in your Audio Manager. If you right click your Audio Manager which is usually located in the Taskbar, you should be able isolate and fix this issue . Hope i helped .

Windows Live Messenger & Yahoo Messenger aren't able to connect to the Net whereas Google Talk Messenger works perfectly fine.

This is a slightly annoying problem. I've disabled Windows Live Messenger from starting up, both through Messenger's options and through MSCONFIG. The program doesn't start when Windows starts. But when I log on to Windows Live Mail through a web browser, Messenger starts up on it's own. I cannot figure out a way to disable this. I've looked through Live Mail options and can't find anything to denote starting up the program. I only use my Live Mail account for junk mail, but need to check it occasionally and would prefer it if Messenger didn't start up on it's own.

Windows 7 only
Are you are fed up with having Messenger or mail open on your task bar and want to revert back to the good old days of XP and Vista with them nicely hidden in your notifications?
Then this is for you... Make sure the programs are closed before you start.
If you right click on the programs short cut or executable file then go to "Properties". Then click on the "Compatibility" tab and select the "Run this program in compatibility mode for." box.
Select "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)" from the drop down menu and finally select "OK".
This will put Live Messenger in the notifications but for live mail you will then need to right click on the notifications icon and select "Hide window when minimized".
Note: The Live mail option "Hide window when minimized" only becomes available when running in Compatibility Mode.
I hope this helps some one as I have been trying to tweak this for a while now and I am happy to have found a solution.

Answer:Hide Live Messenger & Live Mail in notifications area in Windows 7.

I find the assocation of windows live mail and messenger very annoying. In WL Mail, I use both my hotmail and gmail accounts. I prefer to save my passwords so I don't have to enter them every time I open my mail. However, if I get WL Mail to rememberr my passwords, my hotmail account automatically pops up first when I want to sign into WL Messenger, even though I never use hotmail in messenger (just the gmail sign-in). So now, I always have to change the sign-in information on messenger because somehow it prefers my hotmail account.
Simply clickinig 'forget me' in WL Messenger is not the solution since this also makes WL Mail forget my hotmail password, so I have to enter this one very time I open my mail.

So somehow I would like to dissociate the two, to have WL Mail to remember my passwords, but WL Messenger to forget the hotmail account. Does anyone know if there's any way to do so? I hate these automatic associations that you don't have any control over!

Hi there
Unless you have an ACTIVE Internet connection (or other Network Mail Server connection such as Exchange) you will NOT be able to set up OUTLOOK 2013.

Outlook 2013 requires (and there is no option unlike in Outlook 2010 to disable it by unchecking a box) a TEST email to be sent and working before your account(s) can be configured-- Once it's done you don't have to be online but if you need to set up several accounts and you don't have a working internet connection -- Tough luck.

Why on earth did Ms do this --it's not necessary and it is a Hassle for some people who are on the road, have purchased Office 2013 and want to set it up instead of having to wait until they get home.

Also a hassle if they want to prepare company laptop computers with email parameters in advance of the new Exchange email servers being rolled out to the users.

Even if your work policy has mechanisms where the USER can configure the email connections themselves they won't be able to set it up until the Servers are actually in place so you can't set the accounts up in advance.

The box I've shown here is from Outlook 2010. In Outlook 2013 the option is filled in and greyed out so you can't change it.

BTW I prefer and use Office 2010 myself but was trying to help a colleague to set up Office 2013.

Cheers

Of course you can uncheck the Test email box. It has been so in all Outlook versions, is still so in Outlook 2013.

The option is grayed out exactly as long as the NEXT button is grayed out i.e. as long as they could not be used due missing credentials, until the setup has all relevant information for an email account to work (email address, incoming and outgoing servers, username and password). When you have filled the needed credentials, both the Test box and NEXT button become visible and can be clicked / selected.

Although I could well understand that setting up an email account, which in any case needs a working connection, would require an existing connection, this is not the case with Outlook 2013. You can set your email accounts up while sitting in a pub in Brussels watching Premier League Football without Internet connection if you want to .

I am trying to export messages from Windows Live Mail to Outlook 2013.
[Note: I exported from Windows Mail (Vista) to Windows Live Mail (Windows 8); I still have my old Vista machine with all my emails in Windows Mail]

I do...

Open Microsoft Outlook.
Open Windows Live Mail.
In the Windows Live Mail window, click the File button and select Exportand then select Email messages.
Select Microsoft Exchange as the format and then click Next.
You will see a message that all email will be exported to Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Exchange, click Ok to continue.
This is where nothing happens except blink of the screen when I hit "Ok" it just goes back to step 4 where the dialog box pops up to select Microsoft Exchange.

It exports nicely to Microsoft Windows Live Mail but when do Microsoft Exchange it does not even go to step to select All messages, etc

What am I dong wrong and/or is there easier method to get all my email messages to Outlook 2013 please note the Note at top of page of still have emails on Vista machine

Any suggestion - even to purchase a program to do this for me will be a help. As did the export from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail before - redid it as - when moved my imported folder inbox messages to an folder just under imported folder (as had like 6 for some reason (all in tree form as in subfolders) all me messages subjects remained the same however the message itself all read the same thing - strange I know.

Answer:Windows Live Mail to MS Outlook 2013

What worked for me was a program called Address Magic Plus. Like you, I was trying to go from Windows Live to Outlook and this did it for me. The Plus version exports & imports your address book, email, etc. It was worth it to me. It supports many different email formats so you can use it for other programs if you decide to change later on. It can be found at: http://www.connectedsw.com/Overview/57262
Hope this helps

Feel the squeeze ladies and gentleman, feel the squeeze.

Time is Running Out for Win 2K users.

Quote:

Full, free support for Windows 2000 officially ends on June 30th, 2005. After that deadline, the both client and server versions of Windows 2000 will go into the "extended" support cycle, where they will charge for it.

Last year, Microsoft announced that there would be a security-centered update rollup instead of releasing Service Pack 5. The rollup is going to require Service Pack 4 as a prerequisite. The update is due in mid-2005, but so far there has been no news on its progress.

Under the Microsoft's terms of support, they will only provide security-related patches during the product's extended support cycle. Non-security fixes are only available with a hot-fix agreement plan. Anyone without this service will not have access to these updates.

Windows 2000 is still the operating system of choice for many people and businesses. As this product moves into its extended support cycle, Microsoft is urging customers to migrate to Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

We get a fair number of emails as you can imagine, and we try to respond to all of them (although at busy times some slip past us). I'm seeing more and more replies to AOL users bouncing, and this is no doubt the result of AOL's silly and draconian anti-spam measures. If you have emailed me from an AOL adress and haven't had a reply, that will be the reason.I've posted the same thread in Helproom and Consumerwatch.

I receive many emails each day from forum members, and I try to reply to all of them (although I don't always succeed). One problem of late has been that replies I send to some AOL email addresses are being bounced - presumably because the spam-filtering on the AOL servers identifies my address - [email protected] - as a potential spam source. Hi there

Whoever designed the base colors for Office 2013 must have been totally STONE DEAF and COLOR BLIND at the same time. I can't believe that comments weren't made before this stuff was allowed out of the door.

There's almost no possibilities to customize the backgrounds or colors and on a large monitor the base white looks really HIDEOUS -- you need a good pair of Sunglasses while working with it.

The only other choice is some type of Grey (shown in screenshot) which looks very similar to "The Fruit Company's Window colour scheme. Still looks hideous and that Blue !!!!!.

Outlook also displays the unread message titles in the most sickly blue (can't seem to change it) I've ever seen.

Before I remove this POS from my computer is there anyway to De-Uglify or customize like I had in Office 2010 with the Black background.

I don't like it opening with a prompt screen before I get the base screen (often needs another TWO keyboard strokes !! -- example for EXCEL 2013 shown) -- I should be able to open it in a Window with the menus just like like Office 2010. It means I now have to make a load of extra keyboard strokes before I actually get a workbook screen to start getting my work done.

I don't want the sign in reminders either -- I don't intend to use Cloud services etc.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:Outlook 2013 (Office 2013) Help to De-Uglify

No there isn't a way (that I know of) to change it. It was too cumbersome and hogged my Internet Speed with Cloud and whatnot; so I went back to good ol' office 2010. Maybe you should too

We are wanting to up-grade our current Office suite Office 2003 to either Office 2010 or Office 2013.  Our PC's are running Windows 7

I would just like to know what peoples opinions and advice is on this?

Answer:Up-grade from Office 2003 to Office 2010 or Office 2013

I can't speak to Office 2013, but I've done numerous upgrades to Office through 2010.  When you install the new version, you have the option to keep the old version or just replace it.  Starting with Office 2007 the familiar menu bar has been replaced with the ribbons which take a lot of getting used to for folks used to older versions.  There's a little program called UbitMenu that will add most of the menu bar functions back in the 2007 and 2010 versions that a lot of folks find helpful.  If you do opt to have two different versions installed at the same time, what happens is that when you switch from one to the other, it goes through a juggling act that takes a minute or so.  It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it, it could be a convenience.

Good luck.

I was reading the threads about MS Silverlight.

Finishing up the How to Protect Yourself from Malware! Sticky, I have everything on my computer up-to-date and working well. I had gone to Microsoft Update and accepted most of the available updates. I just went from IE6 to IE7; I am holding off on IE8, the only high priority update I have not accepted. Of optional software updates, what?s left are Silverlight, MS Office Live Add-in, and MS Windows Live Essentials.

I gather that Microsoft would like Silverlight to be a competitor to Adobe Flash. However, I have never knowingly come across a website that required Silverlight for viewing until just recently. I came across a Mark Russinovich video on security that indicated Silverlight was needed. Perhaps I could have viewed it anyway (?) but, because I had not installed Silverlight, I passed. Is anyone finding much need for it?

Regarding the two Live items, I don?t see much need for them at this point. I?d just as soon keep all my files on my computer. Is anyone using these Live services and why?

Answer:MS Silverlight, Office Live Add-in, and Windows Live Essentials

You are right to not get those "updates".

I have only ever came across one site that needed silverlight and it was the ITV-Player so i didnt watch the vid

The whole "live" thing is crapware to me.

I did a clean install of Windows 10. What I did was a clean of Win 7 Ultimate first, activated Win 7 Ultimate, then proceeded to install Win 10 using a clean install method. No problems at all.
I installed Microsoft Office 2013. This is where my problem is. After the install, I copied my Office files to the Document folder in Win 10. I opened an Excel spreadsheet, made some changes, and when I tried to save the file I was not allowed to save it. In addition, some files were marked Read Only, changing the file properties did not help because every time I tried to save a file, I was told I did not have administrative rights.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Joe
Part 2:
A simple test I tried. I opened Notepad, typed a few words and tried to save it to the Documents folder. i could not. Windows notified me I did not have administrative rights? This makes no sense. The same occurs if I try to create an Office Excel or Word ducument for example. i have the same problem when I try to save to the Pictures Directory.
Thanks!

Here is the run down....

I have a clean, activated install of Win10. Office 2013 is also legit, and activated. I can open any office program immediately after installing office 2013...
But then I cannot open it again. I double click on any of the apps (Word, Excel etc) and my cursor just spins... and then goes away (installed on a SSD) and then nothing happens...

No errors of any sort popping up!

The ONLY thing in task manager related to Office 2013, is "Microsoft Office Click To Run" which I have no idea what that is. I can end the process. And then as soon as I try to launch Word again, the same thing happens...

Any ideas? This is the ONLY issue I have had software wise with Win10 so far. And go figure, its a M$ product.

Answer:Windows 10 - I cannot open Office 2013...

Hmm, that's strange. All the Office 2013 applications should open and work no differently than they would in 7 or 8.1. 2013 and 10 are working together just fine with computing on which I'm typing this message.

Try compatibility mode. Right click on the start icon for the Office application you want to run, then select "Troubleshoot compatibility" from the drop-down options. See if that fixes it.

My Word, Excel and OneNote files all open in read-only mode and I must reset the properties/security attributes each time I restart/reboot my computer. As for Outlook 2013, I must set it to run as Administrator each time after restarting/rebooting my computer. Is there a solution for this problem? Thanks.

Last April (2016) I purchased Office 2013 pro from NerdsforLess and received a product key which I applied to download from MS website. A couple weeks ago this product was deactivated by MS. I could not re-apply product key either over the Internet or by phone. I talked to MS tech support who told me that MS had deactivated my Office software because the product key had been leaked and that the seller (NerdsforLess) would give me a replacement key. Bob, at NerdsforLess, denied he knew anything about the key being leaked (he actually accused me of leaking the key--yeah right, a personal, professional person is going to sell a key as opposed to a large discount reseller!) and refused to refund my purchase price or provide me with a replacement key. My question is: How can MS justify deactivating my product key when I have proof I paid for the product and there is no way to know who leaked the key? MS did not consult me on this and as far as I can tell, did not research the leaking. So how come I get screwed when I played by the rules (paying for a product and properly registering it)? Thank you for any comments.

Answer:Office 2013 deactivated on my Windows 10 os

They may have sold the same key to several users, who may have genuinely paid for it. So in such cases, where a key is leaked, Microsoft or for that matter any software developer would deactivate the key.
It is therefore best to buy license keys from official authorized sellers.

Had a buggy issue with Windows Live Mail since I've installed it...the program works fine until I exit out of it. Then it could be a minute, or could be 2 hours, but I'll receive a notice that a Windows Live Mail .dll has crashed.

I had read somewhere that it was due to the feature in Live Mail where the option below was checked.

Upload larger images to the Web when sending a photo e-mail.

According to the post, simply unchecking the feature stopped the crashing...I haven't been as fortunate.

I'm still having issues with it every time it closes. I can leave it minimized and it will work ok, but I like to close it down when I'm not around.
Anyone else experience this and have a fix?

Thanks,
Mike

This doesn't appear to happen in Outlook 2013 - anyone know how this can be done - it would save having to open each account in turn to see if emails are present.

Hi there

Just because a law is passed in the US it doesn't automatically mean that it's legal OUTSIDE that particular jurisdiction (although due to various "enforcement methods" they by sheer economic muscle try and make it stick) - but they are trying to block DVDfab's payment processes -- a perfectly 100% LEGAL entity in the jurisdiction in which it operates.

US Copyright Law Doesn't Apply Worldwide,"DVD Ripper" Tells Court | TorrentFreak

Anyway if you live in the US and like ripping DVD's you *might* be better off in trying either to get the law changed or look for an alternative program. - If the US wins this one then AnyDVD / CloneDVD by Slysoft might be the enxt victims followed by VLC which really would screw up 100,000's of people who use that for their video playing.

I opened Outlook on my home pc (Windows 10) yesterday (4 Jan) for the first time since 31 December. An on-screen message said that 200+ messages were downloading. This is more than I would expect to have. When that process had finished I expected the messages to appear in my inbox as normal but none did. (There was no error message on Outlook.) I then checked my email provider's webmail and there were about fifty new messages in the inbox. These have still not appeared in my Outlook inbox. This has happened on one previous occasion, which was after a substantial gap in which a large number of messages could have built up.
I have checked Microsoft Support and installed OffCAT, which failed to find any fault related to the downloading of emails or their appearance in the Outlook inbox. Messages received by the server since I opened Outlook yesterday have been downloaded by Outlook. I would be most grateful for any suggestions as to what might be going on and what could be done about it.

I think you will just have to go to https://products.office.com/en-US/ select "My Account", "Install" and see which computers have Office installed and then deactivate the old one and reinstall the new one. You won't need the actual key, because there is an option to activate via your MS account now. I hate to say it, but it is a really good feature.

Answer:Windows trying to update Office 2013 that is not installed on PC

Hi Try Settings, Updates, Windows Updates, Advanced Options and disable 'Give me updates for other MS products...'

However you may actually want this function now or later, so this does not address the underlying trigger for these updates.
Have you ever had a version - or this version- installed e.g. as a trial packaged with the PC?

Of course you can scan the registry for Office entries (try Nirsoft's Regscanner), but there's no certainty there.

I get every +/- two days a message (written in Dutch, because I'm a Dutch) telling me ... take care that your new office is ready for use and this will take a few seconds....
So, after a few hours, this message is not closed already.
I can't continue, so I have to block te program by the taskbar everytime.

Hi, so after upgrade to Windows 10 there seems to be "interesting" bug. Every single file (.doc, .xls, .ppt) is perfectly fine. I can open it, I can edit it... no problem. But that works only for a while.
Once I mail them to someone through Outlook, the files became unopenable with Windows claiming the files are corrupt. It's exactly the same whether I try to open them directly from Outlook or I download them first.
Any ideas?

Answer:Problem with Office 2013 files in Windows 10

I have had problems opening a couple of .docx files attached to emails sent to me and cannot 'fix' them with suggested methods (Word help). If I go to my email service website (Fastmail) and d/l the attachment from there, they opened ok. But through my email client (Thuderbird), not dice. I wonder if this issue is related to OP.

Using Version 2009 Build 14.0.8089.0726
This is going to sound trivial but is really not.

When closing out an open message by clicking on red X, the program quits but the message stays open. This is NOT simply inadvertently hitting the program x instead of the message x. I have tried reducing the size of the open message and moving it away from the program x, and it still happens. If I close a message using File>Close it doesn't happen, so it's something to do with the red x. This results in me having to re-open the program constantly. If no-one can solve this - is there a way to re-open the program from an open message?
I'm not a newbie, and have searched several threads looking for an answer. Thanks in advance!

I recently put a coply of MS Office 2013 onto a friends computer for them and set up outlook and I cannot get it to export my email from Windows live mail. I have Outlook set as the default mail client and have exhausted the how to on the microsoft help site (used instructions from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980534 ) nothing worked.

I keep getting an error message stating that MAPI isn't setup properly and that I have to set outlook to be the default mail client before it will complete. I have done this and still keep getting the same message. I have also tried exporting the messages in their native formal *.fol but Outlook won't read them. (why MS insists on not building easy portability between its own programs in areas like this is beyond my scope of comprehension or why it cares if I have Outlook installed on that particiular machine or not what if a user wants to put the messages onto another machine that doesn't have live mail on it only Outlook????)

Griping aside I either need a program that can convert the exported *.fol files into a readable *.pst file or compatible format or troubleshoot why live mail isn't seeing that "yes in fact I do have Outlook installed and yes it is set as the default mail client both from Outlook itself and from checking the default program list, I set every file type I could see as default to Outlook and still nothing.

Thanks for your help you guys have never let me down.

Hello Windows Live Messenger.

***

A few months ago all the members of the MSN Messenger team were shut into a room (lured there by cookies and free frappaccinos) to hear the announcement. "MSN Messenger had a good run. It's time for change. Then next time our users upgrade, it will be to Windows Live Messenger"

A judge would've started banging his gavel, "Order! Order!" because the entire saucer-eyed, slack-jawed team erupted in murmurs and exclamations. I personally clapped my hands and bounced up and down like a two-year-old. "I can't WAIT to blog this!" (yeah, that's right - I have a one-track mind). I didn't know why or how or what it all meant, except that I'd have to get new business cards. Actually - I like my business cards, they're all multicolored with the adorable little flapping butterfl...

"WAIT!" I cried. "The butterfly! What's going to happen to the butterfly!?"

They looked at me the same way my parents did when my childhood dog, Minx, got cancer. So, no more butterfly for Messenger. I'm still excited about the change to Windows Live, but I am gonna miss that little guy. Sniff.

Since the internal announcement, I've learned that this name change actually is a lot bigger than a juicy blog post and the canning of a defenseless Lepidoptera (look it up, I did) on Messenger.

MSN will morph into two brands, Windows Live and MSN.

Answer:Goodbye Windows Messenger, Hello Windows Live Messenger!

A beta build of the new Windows Live Messenger (AKA, MSN Messenger 8) has now leaked. However, there is one very large limitation - one cannot sign-in unless they are an official tester. Most notably, the build has a sleek new design, and true offline messaging capabilites. Any other possible new features will be posted later. You can see screenshots of the build by checking out the Forum topic (link below).

A leak will be coming soon, and a patch later (to force the client to log in using the MSN Messenger Protocol 12, which will bypass the log-in restriction).

Download WMB

Because of the new leaking protection, You cannot login using the new Messenger Protocol 13, so you have to force it to log in using Protocol 12. This works, but Messenger will not show who is online, it will not change your status, and a bunch more things are broken…You can talk though..

You can force it to use Protocol 12 by hex editing I assume...

I am using windows 7- just installed Office 2013 etc., now I am getting the dreaded blue screen. I cannot tell if it is because of the new installation of something else. Got some kind of error message that state C:\windows\minidump\02216_24195_01.dmp and C:\Users\OctanePC\Appdata\local\temp\WER-86065-0.sysdata.xml if that is any help.
I am open to suggestions on how to fix this. thanks.

I am using a Toshiba 64-bit laptop, running Windows 10 Home, 8gb memory, 1Tb hard drive.

Unfortunately, I did an update to Windows 10 and lost all the readable sized text in the toolbars, menus, etc, not only in Windows but also in MS Office 2013. I really need to be able to make just the font larger than 9 pts. I don't want the apps and icons so large they jump off the screen at me. And who in their right mind would think that 9pts was an acceptable size font? It should never be less than 12. They obviously have never tried looking at a screen for 36 hours straight while trying to solve a major production problem.

Since the Appearance and Personalization option has disappeared out of Windows 10, did the Office developers have the intelligence and forethought to retain the ability to make the text in the menu and toolbars larger for those of us who don't have 20/10 vision? If so, where would I find that option?

I have spent almost two days trying to fix this problem, and YES, I view it as a definite problem that should be fixed as soon as humanly possible. You can just imagine how aggravated I am at this point.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hello
I installed Office 2013 two weeks ago. The setup automatically pinned Office apps on my start menu. But after couple of days, the icons from some of the office apps automatically got erased from the tiles and now it looks so ugly. I tried re-pinning apps on start menu but it didn't work. I also tried sfc /scannow but it was in vein.
Does anybody know how to fix it and get the icons back on the tiles?
Thanks in advance!

Answer:'Office 2013' tile's icon missing in Windows 8.1

Most likely a quirk of 8.1.x that has not been found yet. Majority are using Desktop mode, so they never notice these issues. I would submit a ticket to MS, showing the issue. You will have to also show that all programs are installed and able to run (Screen print of Event log showing where you ran the program, then stopped it.

The engineers would tell you exact information to look into why they screwed up.

Last night I opted to install a major update to Windows 10. This took over an hour to install with several restarts. After the update I noticed that the search function in Outlook 2013 wasn't working, but by checking with Search Tools I found that the index was being slowly rebuilt, so I left the computer running with Outlook open. Coming back to the PC nine hours later, I found this message on a small window in front of Outlook: 'We're sorry, but Outlook has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Outlook will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?' There are three buttons: Repair Now (pre-selected), Help and Close. Clicking on Repair closes Outlook; clicking on Help takes one to a Microsoft Office forum, on which only account-holders may ask a question; and Close closes Outlook. Clicking on the x at top right of the small window closes Outlook too. Re-opening Outlook produces the same small window in front of Outlook, and the Outlook screen does not respond to clicks anywhere. I have Avast free anti-virus running.

I have run Offcat and the report says there are five warnings. Two appear under 'Application not responding' and the same two appear under 'Slowness'. Here are the details of the first:

Severity: Warning
Title: Outlook is slow to close due to the RequireShutdownNotification registry value (under HKLM)

Hi, I'm noticingthat Windows 8.1 and Onenote 2013 is having a hotkey clash. Windows usesWindows + S key to pull up a sidbar search. Onenote uses the same hotkey to start ascreen capture.

I want the hotkey togo to Onenote. How can I do this?

Answer:Hotkey clash between Windows 8.1 and Microsoft Office 2013

Are you trying to use Office from the Metro/Start screen, or from Desktop? Screen capture has not changed. It is still Fn Prtsc.
