Preferred Solution: Windows 8 activation problem after 2 years of activation

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I bought my PC 4 years ago, it has Windows 8 on it, then I've updated to windows 10, it was working fine for about a year, now It's asking for Windows Activation. Will the reset to original setting change OS to the older version (Win8)?I prefer to use Win10 than win8, what can I do now?

I have a PC that is now six years old. In that time I had a new hard disc after 1 year and a new graphics card after 4 years. This morning on booting up a message came up " Windows Product Activation - Since Windows was first activated on this computer the hardware has changed signiicantly. Do you wish to reactivate Windows now? Windows must be reactivated within three days"I selected No as I am suspicious of this message as nothing has changed in the last twelve months.I did have a multifunction printer/scanner unit as well as a standalone scanner attached until last night when I removed the standalone scanner. I cannot believe that that this has any bearing whatsoever on the situation but is just coinicidental.Does anyone have any input on this?

Answer:Windows Product activation After 6 years????

If you download and run XPinfo click here you will be able to see what your activation was based on and whether it is still valid. It is also possible that your WPA.dbl file has become corrupt. If this is the case and you have kept a copy you can delete/move/rename the existing item and replace it.Failing the above, you will need to follow the screen prompts to re-activate.

I just shipped 40 computers to our partner last month. On each one, I personally entered the product key and saw the activation process completely successfully: The "your Windows is Genuine" message appeared at the completion of each activation.

Now, after the systems have been shipped to the other side of the country and installed in the field, we have most if not all of the system displaying "your Windows is not genuine" to OUR CUSTOMERS!!!

What the hell happened and what do intend to do about it? (Apparently, this has been going on for years...why wasn't it fixed???)

Greetings!

This is relatively new experience for me and I have spent some time Googling for solutions.

A friend of mine upgraded his genuinely activated Windows 8 Pro Parallels virtual machine to Windows 10 Pro. After the upgrade, he finds that his Windows 10 Pro is not activating. When I check, the error 0xC004C003 states that the activation is being blocked.

A common suggestion I have encountered was to install the OS from scratch, but that isn't practical in this situation. I am also aware that with Windows 10 the licensing is based on unique hardware identification, which makes me feel that this might affect virtual machine installations due to the nature of virtualizaiton, but surely Microsoft had thought about this before rolling out Windows 10 with the new licensing scheme (or at least I hope).

Another suggestion I read and tried was "slrmgr.vbs /rearm" --> reboot --> "slrmgr.vbs /ato". I still receive the same error. I also tried "slrmgr.vbs /ipk Windows8KeyHere" but it didn't work. I received an error code "0xc004e016" about the key being invalid.

Any ideas?

Answer:Mac Parallels Windows 8 Pro (genuine activation) upgraded to 10 Pro, activation block

If he doesn't want to reinstall, call Microsoft's licensing number and complain.

hi all

is SLP loader functions the same as windows activator?

i'm using Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as my OS. currently, it's already prompting and i have 27-days left for activation

this all happened when i initiate System Recovery using the same CD installer i used to setup the same computer almost 3-years ago. i did so as it hung-up and i can't managed even to go into Safe Mode, as well, the so called Last Known Good Configuration but still to no avail

i used the same CD Key i used initially before but it won't accept or recognized it where it states that if my CD Key was right and still not updating then i should telephone Microsoft

wow!

can i do that when i'm not in the continental USA much more these computer was registered not under my name since it's only a hand-me-down or surplus which is beneficial to me

so i'm looking for SLP loader or windows activator (if it function the same way) intended for Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as it may resolve my issue

hope it's okay to inquire and that if it's not advisable to reply post in here, i welcome it through PM

Answer:windows activation (27-days left for activation)

If it's a valid key, you should have no problem calling MS to re-activate Windows.

It should give you an option to pick which country you're from on the activation window, and then a number to call.

Hi there
I recently changed a MOBO from an INTEL based one to one using an AMD PHENOM processor -- W7 didn't want any new activation rather surprisingly. (Broken Mobo and I had a spare ASUS MOBO lying around).

However the first time I switched to using a LAN cable instead of a Wifi USB adapter I got the "Hardware has changed - please activate windows. OK it activated fine -- however seems strange to me that a MOBO change didn't call for any activation (Disks, memory, DVD device etc were canaballized from the old machine) but a simple switch from Wifi to a LAN did. !!! The internal logic of the activation process seems totally illogical and bizarre. (Running W7 x-64 ULTIMATE). !!!

Cheers

Hello eightforums!

Long story short

I installed windows 8 pro to my second laptop. A few weeks later, I decided I would input my 2nd WMC Code (I have 2 of them) After adding WMC to my laptop, it automatically rebooted after adding the features but now my laptop isn't activated anymore.

Solutions I tried:
Activating Windows via:
1. Re inputting my Windows 8 pro product key - That didnt work
2. Re inputting WMC code - That didn't work either.
3. Restarting laptop

I checked my 1st laptop's product key (which has wmc too) and it was different to my 2nd laptop which also has Wmc. From what I see, inputting my second Wmc code seems to have broken my activation. Is there any other solutions to solve this apart from clean install?

Answer:Windows 8 Pro Activation Problem

This appears to be a fairly common scenario - and it usually solves itself after a couple of days.

You can try activating over the phone - use 'SLUI 4' in Search to bring up teh wizard.

Ok so my girlfriend gives me her pc to fix an intermittent shutdown problem. I identify that its a failing PSU, replace it and its fixed. My next problem however is that when i bypass her login screen it asks for windows activation. I try to go through the activation process but it can't establish a connection and will only allow me to boot into safe mode to actually get into windows.
Now she has a wireless network card and it isnt showing up. So, I use my own pc to download drivers for it, boot into safe mode and successfully install said drivers. Well, i know there are wireless networks in range, but i cant detect them in safe mode. I dont know if its possible for the card to detect them in this mode so i boot up normall and am taken to the windows activation screen again. I again dont enter her PW and try to activate but again, no connection. I try installing my own newtork card and try to connect using my own cable isp (software isnt required to set this up) but again, no connection. she has a phone modem in there too but she cancelled aol a while ago so she wont be able to connect that way either.
my question is, am i missing something? how will she get into her main windows mode if she cant activate windows?

Hi i have had the same problem and it is a big pain it happens everytime you change one of the these items e.g:
SCSI Adapter, IDE Adapter, Processor Type, Hard Drive, Motherboard and even if you take the the HDD out put it in another computer and then put it back in the org computer it come out of you will have to reactivate Windows.

The only way i could do it was ring microsoft by phone on the 1800 number provided then you will have to give them the list of number on the phone activation section in the activate section then they will give you about 20 numbers and letters to activate the product again.

How to activate Windows XP by phone
To contact a Microsoft customer service representative to activate Windows by phone, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Activate Windows.

Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area.
2. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.
3. Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.
4. Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box, and then click Next.

Note The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.
5. When activation is completed and you receive the following message, click OK.

I just formated my hdd and reinstalled windows. When it booted up i installed my wireless card driver and successfully activated windows. Then i installed my graphics card driver, my motherboard driver and my soundcard driver and then restarted my computer.

When it booted up a message appeared that said "Significant changes have occured with your hardware and Windows will need to be reactivated with in the next 3 days." (thats not exactly what it said but its pretty close). So then i opened the activation utility and attempted to activate windows.

This time it said "According to our records, the number of times you can activate Windows with this product key has been exceeded. Please enter a different product key, and then click retry."(that is exactly what it says).

So does this mean that since i installed some drivers i have to buy a new copy of windows? This is about the 4th time ive reinstalled this copy of windows and i have never had this problem. So i guess i only have 3 days till i have to buy a new copy of windows.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Windows Activation Problem

There should be a 800 number you can call. Give M$ a call and tell then you had to format and re-install. HDD issues. Tell them you already activated it but after doing some updates and driver isntalls it prompted and gave you that error message again. They will give you the code needed to activate Windows.

Ok. I just reinstalled my copy of Windows Xp. And when I go to activate it, it says that my activation key has been used too many times. What will happen if I dont activate? Or what can I do to obtain a new key?

Answer:Windows XP Activation Problem

G'Day,

It depends upon the circumstances that you had to reinstall your copy of Xp.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago, when my HDD 'spat the dummy'; so, I telephoned my local Microsoft Service Centre and explained the situation to them, and they issued me with a new Registration Key.

When you do call them, you will need to have your disk in front of you, as they [microsoft] will ask you for some security features that are on the disk, prior to issuing of the Key. Its a pretty painless excercise, and Microsoft are fairly understanding.

Having said that, the reason for the reinstallation will have to be within their guidelines, which I don't know the full extent of them.

The one thing that I do know is that they won't issue a new Key if you just decided to do an upgrade, it would have to be because of a malfunction that was beyond your control. Go here and select your country.....

Hope this helps.....Let us know how you got on.

My dad took my old computer as it was a little bit younger than his ancient one (this one I`m on now), but managed just before Christmas to be infected with a fake antivirus program which completely destroyed BOTH discs contents, somehow by reformating everything to FAT32 files, turning all the information into 498 Directory folders of gibberish, I managed to find that out by taking the hard drive out of the ancient computer and reading the two affected hard drives with it, they were unsalvageable but I managed to format them awaiting a complete OS re-installation.However when returnibng the old hard drive to its original computer (this ancient one), Windows XP is now stating you have 2 Days to reactivate as the hardware is different than originally set up (which it was for a while). The reactivation window however is blank, except for two non loading graphics buttons in each top corner, which means I can`t reactivate it even if I wanted to. Will I have to completely reinstall from scratch, which would mean in this case Windows ME, then the Windows XP upgrade on top, or is there a way to get the Activate Windows window to work properly?. If there isn`t, then I think I`ll let this machine die a dignified death, it is 11 years old after all. Thanks ion advance, and a Happy New Year to One and all on The PC Advisor Forum.

Answer:Windows XP Re-activation problem

See if the solution at 'Blank Activate Windows page in the Windows Product Activation Wizard' click here is any good.Yes, it would be ideal if you could do a fresh XP reinstall. If you only have an Upgrade version, you don't have to install WME first. During the start of the fresh install, the XP Upgrade will only ask you to briefly place the original WME disc in the optical drive. Once it's satisfied, just replace the WME disc with the XP Upgrade disc & install as normal. G

the problem here for my flatmate is that when he tries to activate his windows - he gets the message "unable to establish a connection with the activation server, please check network settings and confirm that you are able to connect to the internet then try again"the thing is he already is connected to the internet - via a wanadoo wireless setup, so is there some way to change how windows tries to connect to activate?i'm not sure if it makes any difference, but he installed sp2 right after he did a fresh install of xp, could that have affected it? it seems unlikely to be that though.thanks for any help!

Also the PC will boot OK if in Safe Mode, But I dont no what to do from there.

Can anyone help with this,

Thanks for your time.

Hi dannybones,

Have you just recently reinstalled your operating system?
Have you had any hardware changes on your system?

You may want to call the Product Activation Call Center @ 877-426-6010 and describe your problem to them they may have some suggestions for you.
Microsoft also has a Tech Support number @ 800-936-5700.

I installed win 7 Ultimate 32 bit with my Pre-activated OEM disk. I also updated it with SP1. I?ve been using it for 2 years without problems. Recently I sold my Laptop for some problems and created a backup of my windows following this post. Yesterday I bought new laptop [another brand] and tried to restore my backup windows image. But it shows activation problem. I collect my product key from previous laptop and tried to activate with it. But it shows the massage bellow. Is there any way to activate it with my Pre-activated OEM disk?

Answer:Windows 7 Activation Problem

This warning from the very beginning of the tutorial you mentioned:

   Warning
Using this method causes Windows 7 to lose all activation information, and it needs to be reactivated afterwards. If your Windows 7 is an OEM version, you might not be able to reactivate it, at least not without phone activation option.

It might be you are not allowed to activate your OEM copy of Windows on another PC. Your best shot is to try phone activation: Activate Windows 7 by Phone

I've activated my retail purchased copy of Windows 7 three times in the last month. Each time, the activation process is quick, and I receive a confirmation message that says, "Activation was successful." I've included a screenshot of the "Activation was successful" message with this email posting.

Thanks for any tips on how to end the repeated requests to activate Windows 7 after I have successfully activated it previously.

Hi, all!

I had to install a new hard drive into a friends desktop. Now after installing a fresh copy of windows XP onto it, XP installs and works fine, I cannot validate. The seervice keeps saying incorrect key. Surely her license key off the side of her pc should work. I've checked that it refers to XP Home, which is the version now installed on her drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance, Lee

I have an XPS 8500 that came from the factory with Windows 8.  Soon after the purchase (around first of 2013) I made the rescue disks on 4 DVDs.  Recently the hard drive failed.  I gave the Dell salesman the service tag #  and ordered a new hard drive.  I Asked what I needed to re-install the OS.  I was told I needed a USB key ($39.99) and ordered one.  I was told this would get me up and running.
I installed the new drive and inserted the USB key.  Windows installed and runs.  However, I cannot activate Windows.  Using Belarc advisor I was able to find my Windows key imbedded on the bios.  When I input that key the pop up tells me that the current edition is Windows 8 Pro and the current product key ends with QPBRC.  This differs from the product key embedded in the bios and I get an error code of 0xc004c003 'the activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked" and that I need to purchase a new key.
I'm assuming that the problem is that I have a valid key for Windows 8 but not Windows 8 Pro.
I called Dell and was given a number to call Microsoft; alternatively, I was told that I'd need to go through Dell's tech support at a cost of around $250.
I am at a loss at this point.  Any suggestions are welcome!

Answer:Windows activation problem

Does the sticker affixed to your system say Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro? Does the Edition say Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 Pro? It sounds like Dell send out the wrong Edition of installation media.
Lets try to resolve this first I advise first making sure your BIOS is up to date revision A13:
http://downloads.dell.com/published/pages/xps-8500.html
See here to determine your (UEFI) BIOS revision and update. Ensure UEFI and SecureBoot are enabled:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/updating-the-bios/#BIOSRevision
Next you have a choice install Windows 10 TH2 or clean installing Windows 8.1.
Installation Media from Microsoft will not ask for a product key and automatically pick up your UEFI BIOS embedded SLP key during installation provided the Edition of the Installation Media and your Product Key match. Simply put if you asked for a product key you are installing the wrong Edition.
I advise Windows 10 TH2 over Windows 8.1 see here for details on your Free Upgrade from Windows 8.1:
https://philipyip.files.wordpress.com/2015/07/th2-upgrade-table.pdf
To Download Windows 10 TH2 installation media see here:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-windows-10-oem-and-retail-iso/
To Download Windows 8.1 installation media see here:

Started up an old computer at work. Hasn't been used in a while and is not connected to the internet. Windows XP said that I have 3 days to activate it. As I was constantly getting called away, I wasn't able to activate in time. I only need it work for a short time to recover some important files off of it.
I am wondering if there is a way round activating it so I can get the files off without having to phone a Microsoft operator to get an activation code.

Hi, I have been using Virtual PC 7 on my Mac runing the Windows XP Home SP2.
Just recently I have been asked to Re-Activate Windows XP. I have tried to put in the serial number that came with the program, but it tells me to reactivate it by phone. So I have done that and everything should be ok, right?

Seems like everytime I restart Windows (maybe every other time), I get this message which says that I need to Re-Activate Windows.. (Wait, didn't I just do this?) Ok, After the 5th Re-Activation, this is getting a little tiresome.

Does anyone know how I can disable this message asking me to Re-Activate my Windows XP (Now that it has been Re-Activated at least 5 more times by phone.) It keeps telling me that I have made some major hardware changes to Windows. The only thing that I have done is restart or reboot the program. What is causing this to do this? Anyone know how to fix this problem, once and for all? The Windows XP came with my Virtural PC program Version 6 and I have upgraded to Version 7.2 or whatever is the latest version. This is really getting annoying.

Please post any information that could help me. Thanks.

Answer:Windows Activation Problem

the win XP cd lives and dies with the pc it is bought with. if this is the winXP cd that came with the pc, then you have reinstall the software wrong. you will need to find a way to reinstall. its all about bill gates and anti-piracy actions i beleave.
To resolve this behavior, activate the Windows XP guest operating system again. For additional information about how to activate Windows XP, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307890/EN-US/) HOW TO: Activate Windows XP
however im told that the 30 reactivate will just go away after 30 days.?!?!? hope you get better info! cheers jeff

OK, so I just bought a new processor, video card, and more memory for my HTPC that is running XP Pro. I try to reinstall XP and the Activation fails... WTF!!

So, what am i going to do now?
Do I need to re-purchase it?
Why all the hassle? Maybe I should just use Linux out there too.

Changes:
XP1700 -> XP2500
2x256 Generic PC2700 -> 2x512 Corsair 3200
Radeon 7500 -> 9600
and included an 8x LiteOn DVDRW

That doesn't seem like too drastic of a change for it to throw a fit... does it?

A while back ago (around 2012, December) I bought a pre built Dell PC and it came pre loaded with Windows 8. In February I thought it was about time to upgrade my PC, so I bought a new MB, CPU and GPU. This reset my Windows back to trial version. I then upgraded my OS to 8.1 and only now have I thought to solve this problem as Windows has been running quite bad lately. When I'm in the Metro searching for things my CPU usage goes straight to %99. I have my old Windows Key if that helps.

(Games are crashing and stuttering horrendously.)

These problems have started to occur after upgrading my GPU from a GTX550ti to a GTX660 OC

My Specs;
CPU: Intel i3 3220 3.3GHz
GPU: Asus GTX660 OC Direct CU II
RAM: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM
OS: Windows 8.1 Trial

(I have booted in to safe, that's where I found the CPU usage problem and it seems to be the same when booting in to regular mode.)

Answer:Windows 8 Activation Problem, how do I fix it?

Hello CaptainNitro, and welcome to Eight Forums.

On an OEM PC that came with Windows 8 preinstalled, the product key is embedded in the motherboard's BIOS/UEFI firmware. This would be why your Windows 8/8.1 is not activated on the new motherboard.

OEM product keys are non-transferable to a new computer.
Windows 8 EULA
The new motherboard is essentially the same as a new computer, and would require the purchase of a retail copy of Windows 8 or 8.1.

Hi there,
any advices on following scanario will be highly appreciated.
I'm new to company and found there are some Dell Dimension 3100 PCs which were reinstalled by using XP Professional Pirated CD with the other license key so that product key appeared as xxxxx -640-0000356-23 xxx xxxxx -640-2001765-23 xxx ... by ex-IT guy.
So, i try to change the regedit method HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents and run the msoobe and change the products key to the correct key stick on the Dell box but somehow it rejected. I doubt that the CD he used must be sort of volume license and i'm using OEM key. if i reinstall the whole windows with the CD from Dell, it was ok to key in the correct key. Is there anyway that i could change to OEM products key without reinstalling whole windows XP professional.
p.s all dell box i have in my company comes with XP professional and the OS in it are also XP professional.

thanks
stsygn

Answer:Windows XP activation problem

640 is definitely a corporate volume license-#
I'm not sure if you can (without any side effects) exchange the (pirated)volume license with a (valid)OEM since I never had the need to do it.
but google for Magic Jelly Bean it's a freeware which lets you retrieve and even exchange
windows lic-keys without the need of a new installation and it might even work in this case, saving you a couple hours ;)
If not, you could always try a repair-install instead of a full one

Answer:i have a problem windows activation, help me..

The Software Protection Service looks like it's been uninstalled - have you been using a registry cleaner (WiseFixer, probably)??
First, let's check that, and then run some checks to try and repair the other damage....

Click on Start
in the Search box, type
SERVICES.MSC
and hit the Enter key - accept the UAC prompt if you get one.
Look in the console for the Software Protection service, right-click on it and select Properties.
make sure that the Startup Type is set to Automatic (Delayed Start), and click Apply.

Try starting the service now - do you get an error message? Does it start? does it almost immediately stop again?
Post back with your results, and a new MGADiag report.

If it doesn't start, then please do the following...
Please open an Elevated (Administrator) Command Prompt window and use the following commands....

net start sppsvc
sc qc sppsvc
sc queryex sppsvc
sc qprivs sppsvc
sc qsidtype sppsvc
sc sdshow sppsvc

Copy and paste the output to your reply

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last co... Read more

Hi, I have an HP desktop computer which is causing problems. It originally came with Windows 7 Pro which I updated to Windows 8 by purchasing a disc. This was installed with no real difficulty and Activated. This still shows as being activated on the System setting in Control Panel. When the windows 8.1 update came along I updated to it and updated my wife's laptop. Hers is working fine. Problems arose from my update as the Windows Store no longer worked, and the Computer Settings charm did not work anymore. Then I had a HDD breakdown, which my local techies were able to fix for me, recovering most stuff, and putting it on a new 1gb HDD. Still with the same problems in Windows.
Just the last few days, the desktop only has started to come up with a screen telling me that my licence is due to expire soon and to go to computer settings to activate. This I cannot do unless I go to the control panel, but I am not sure what to do then. The disc for Windows 8 that I got had a licence number with it which was duly entered, and then Windows was activated.
I have tried looking this up on the net and it is obviously a recognised problem, but there are many ways this can apparently happen and so there are differing fixes.
Can anyone help please?

Answer:Windows Activation problem

Go to your control panel then system. Attempt to activate. If it fails call Microsoft and they will help you activate.
I trust that your and your wife's systems have their own product codes and you are not trying to do both systems with the same info as this is not legal and will not work.

Recently, I had a problem with my laptop which resulted in it having certain booting problems. After recovering, Windows asked me for the activation key. I did not have one given to me by the seller of the product, neither do I have any form of Product Key sticker on my comp. I tried many programs such as Magical Jelly Bean Finder, WinKey Finder(something like that), Belarc Advisor etc. All of them did find a key. But when I used it to activate my product, Windows said that the key i entered was a 'Default' key. I tried contacting windows customer care and the likes, but did not get a single reply. Can anyone help me?

Answer:Windows 7 Activation Problem

Yes, if you indeed have a default key and you have paid for the OS, then you have been defrauded. Default key is the trial key that lets you use win7 in grace period before you actually activate with your purchased key. If you post the last 5 alphanumeric of the default key, I can confirm for you.

Hi,

I recently had a problem booting (BSOD) and its is now fixed, by repairing my Windows XP installation from a Dell CD (because I didnt want to lose all my Documents and Programs and Settings using the Toshiba Recovery CD) and now I have a problem with Activation.

Would Toshiba send me a Windows XP CD (not a Recovery CD) to me so I can Activate it?

Hi Stephen,

I don't think you can obtain a Microsoft Windows XP cd from Toshiba since they are only licenced to provide an OEM XP system via the recovery CDs. If you want a genuine Windows XP cd you will have to buy this yourself.

After receiving my computer back from the repair shop (problem with RAM) recently, Windows said it needed reactivating within 2 days. I clicked yes, to activate and windows loaded with a window that was titled "Activate Windows" but it was completely blank inside. I closed it off after waiting several minutes, and since have tried reactivating many times. I gave up and downloaded an activation crack instead. After 2 days passed windows wouldn't load so I booted in Safe Mode and applied the activation crack. Now when I boot i get the login then a blank window with the error icon and a yes and no button. when I click yes I see my wallpaper but then it goes back to log in window if I press no, straight back to login window. Probably shouldn't have tried cracking it, but there u go. I think that the activation part of windows was probably corrupted some how (before activation crack) is there anyway of restoring it without reinstalling windows altogether.

Thanks for any help

Answer:Windows Activation Problem

Well there may have been, but now you may well be stuck with a reinstall.

If you can boot into safe mode there is still a chance by typing "sfc /now" in a command prompt window (start comp in safe mode with command prompt if you can).

If that doesn't work, you can try doing a repair installation, which won't erase all your files, it will simply overwrite the c:\windows folder.

I've got a Thinkcentre m700 tiny with Windows 10 Pro installed. According to https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht077446 my PC is eligible for downgrade to Microsoft Windows 7 Professional. I've installed Windows 7 using ISO image from MS digitalriver website (with added usb3 drivers using solution from Intel website). But when I checked the status of activation - Windows wasn't activated. But according to https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht078865 on Thinkcentre PCs "Windows 7 will be activated automatically.". Didn't happen When I called Lenovo support they told me that I have to buy recovery DVD's set in order to install Windows 7. But their own page ( https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht077446 ) says that my PC is eligible for downgrade without the condition that I HAVE TO buy anything to make it eligible. It mentions the recovery set - but again without saying that I have to buy it. I don't want a recovery set and all the bloatware, I just want a vanilla Windows 7 Professional to which my PC with Windows 10 Pro is eligible according to Lenovo's own website. Is there a way execute this right without buying the recovery set?

I reinstalled Windows XP Pro because I was not able to boot it up, that might have been stupid on my part.
I wrote down the CD key I had on a .txt file in a hard drive that's not on the operating system.
I installed with dummy key, assuming I will be able to put my previous working key in after installation.
I tried activating it with previously valid key. It does not accept it. It is the same computer, same machine.

The only difference is that I've installed Windows XP again, I am unable to access some files from my previous User Name in Documents and Settings due to access denied, even though I know the password, but that's not the main issue.

Anyone know any way to fix this? I have in my possession a valid key that I used on this machine to download the new internet explorer and receive regular updates from microsoft.

My registry, services, user profiles & the group policy settings were all screwed up (Ashampoo Optimizer), so I searched online until I found a article detailing how to do an upgrade install using the same edition of Windows. I got the software from MSDNAA when I was in the PC support program in college (the program has two install choices-upgrade or custom). The author said that the original system settings would be restored, so of course I went for it!
Everything went well until I entered my product key which had always worked before (I usually did custom installs). This time, I got an error code: 0xC004C020. I've installed this OS in 4 PCs without any problems--why do I have problems now?
What did I do wrong, & how do I rectify it?

"This copy of Windows Must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to active Windows now?"

He clicked yes, and he got a little window saying "Windows is already activivated, click ok to exit"

when exit is clicked, it takes him back to the Log on screen.

So he cant log on his computer. Please can someone help me figure this out, it would be GREATLY appriciated.

It might be saying this because it knows that you have activated it at two different locations. Or is plainer terms, it has found out you have a pirated copy.

Hi again,
@Kris Simundson
"Nobody here will help you pirate a Win7 key, you'll have to find it on your own, or purchase one."
This is very kind of you, but I'm not a thief or pirate.
As I sad, I already have my own windows, so I don't need to buy another. And as I sad, this is not a simple problem to understand.
I try to discribe the problem once more and clearly:
There is an aliance between the Microsoft and the universitys: so everyone, who is a student and study as a programmer, able to go get a lot of Microsoft program. For example: win7, win8, win10, visual studio, windows server 2003, and so on. You can read about this on this link, if you intrested: sorry, the system doesn't enable the link in a question, but tipe msdnaa to the google.
So every program (for example win7) is available for me, and all for free. Now you understand, I don't need to stole any windows 7 production key, so we can talk about my problem.
One month ago I'm bought a new laptop. On my older laptop I'm also used my own windows, what I've got from the MSDNAA server. So I'm thought, that I will install a win7 on my new laptop. (Of course I have win7, win7.1, win8,win8.1,win10, maybe winXP with production key, by reason of MSDNAA). But some hackers have broke the server in our university, where we can login to this site. So the two event(my new laptop and the hancers) was in the same period. That is the reason, why I asked my friend to give me his win7 setup file. It is an iso file. He didn't give m... Read more

Hi!
At first sorry for my english.
I've a komplicated problem with the activation. So I've brought a new laptop 1 month ago and I'm installed my friend's windows on my new laptop, because our university's server(MSDNAA things) is not worked(because some hackers broke up). My friend doesn't want to give me his product key and of course I dont blame for this(this is just a requied information). So this server is now working, so I can get my own win7, but i don't want to reinstall the whole laptop(this is a lot of time). So I need my own productID, and then I can rewrite the registry. I think the easiest way, if I find this ID on the win7.iso.
I don't know, is someone who can understand me?xD
Of course, if this is a bull**** idea, I'll install my own windows in a virtualbox and there will I get the ID.

Answer:Windows 7 activation problem, can I get some help?

Hello,

I would appreciate any thoughts or help in following :

My OS was in pretty bad shape and I wanted to reinstall it but I don`t have my installation disk anymore. So I wrote down my Product ID and Product key and downloaded a new legal version of Windows 7 Home premium 64bit - the same type that I had previously. After that I did clean install which worked fine until I tried to activate product.

After few tries I realized that there is different Product ID written down in the `my computer` specs. Now there is Product ID: 00359-OEM-xxxxxxx-xxxxx. The original Product ID was 55041-OEM-xxxxxx-xxxxx. The problem is that the Windows system is the same so why it doesn`t have the same Product ID?

Do you know where can I get the installation ISO for my Windows according to the Product ID that I have? Or what do you suggest? I am pretty confused about it.

Thank you in advance.

Ok my friend had bought an Everex x5000T Laptop with Vista on it. However, he didn't like Vista so I offered to install XP on it. I used a fresh never before used XP VLK key and an XP VLK CD from my school to install XP on the laptop. I activated it myself, no problems duing activation and that was that.

Now its been 30 days later and some problems have occurred. Everytime its the same thing: He tries to logon and a message box says he needs to activated XP. He clicks "OK" to activate XP, the Windows Product Activation tells hims that XP is already activated and takes back to logon screen where it tells him again that XP needs to be activated. Then it does the same thing again as stated above.

This is a legitimate copy of XP that I obtained from my school that has not been used at all. I tried booting into safe mode but even there XP asks says it should be activated.

I'm at a loss as to what to do. Basically, how can I fix this problem where XP says it needs to activated but the Windows Product Activation says that XP is already activated?

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Windows XP Activation Problem

Is your friend enrolled at the school that provided the VLK?

If not, then to fix the problem, the friend needs to buy a legit version of the OS.
If yes, then contact the schools IT folks.

Hi Gents,

Hope someone can help me here. I've been using a retail version of Win7 Home premium 64 for about 2 years now with no issues.

During that time I've reinstalled the product possibly 6 or 8 times. Excessive I know but when things start to go wrong I like to start fresh again. Anyway from memory the last 2 times I have had to use phone activation.

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my laptop and killed the HDD. Put in a new one and reinstalled Win. I've just tried to activate with no luck. I went to phone activation and being lazy I typed in my old code I had saved from last time.

Now I can't activate and when I try and open the phone activation box I get a pop up from the toolbar saying the copy isn't genuine and nothing more.

Is there a way to resolve this or have I pissed off the activation so much that I actually have to shell out for a new copy?

Thanks in advance and I'm located in Thailand if that makes a difference.

Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

I have a pop up message appearing on the screen saying the licence will expire 15 August, need to activate Windows in Settings. Contact admin to get product key.
When I go to Settings it says Windows is activated and Product ID as well as Product Key is listed.
I have tried all suggestions from the Microsoft forum to no avail.
I am now wondering if the technician who installed Windows 10Pro, installed the wrong programme.
I believe that the previous Windows in the laptop was Windows 8.1 home.
Could this be the problem.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Click on the product keys to blank them out. Then right click on the start icon, select Command Prompt (Admin). In the command prompt window run:

Answer:Windows genuine and activation problem

Who repaired the laptop?
The SLIC table is missing from the BIOS - which means that the OEM_SLP Key in use cannot self-activate as it should.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

Hi, This is my first post to this forum, apologies for the length of this post, but I wanted to try to give as much info as possible.
I have a Windows 10 Pro expiration/activation problem.
I bought a used desktop PC a few months ago, but am now unable to contact the seller to resolve this issue with him. I have tried the usual routes of solving this problem myself, ie; google searches etc; but have drawn a blank to find the correct solution.
Hopefully this forum will be able to lead me in the right direction.
The problem: Approx. every 2 hours I am getting a Windows pop-up message informing me that ''Your Windows License Will Expire Soon... You Need to Activate Windows In Settings''.
When I go to settings it shows ''Windows is activated using your organizations activation service''.
I have used slmgr.vbs /dlv to view the current license, which I think indicates that this PC was possibly once used in a business environment? using KMS.
Also, using the Windows script host, I see the info changes daily, & is now down to 10 days!
I suspect that the seller used either a pirated copy, or a temporary license to install & activate the Windows 10 Pro. There is no Product Key label on the case, it has been scratched off.
The PC is a Dell Optiplex 3010 DF Core i3 3220 @ 3.30GHZ 8GB 500GB. It has an original Microsoft
Windows 7 badge on the case, so obviously it was updated to Windows 10 pro prior to my purchase.
Is there an easy fix for this expiration issue?

Answer:Windows 10 Pro expiration/activation problem

There should have been a mention of how to contact Microsoft. Failing to get a resolution from them will require you buying a copy of Win10 but might find Win7 cheaper and just redo the computer. The free upgrade to Win10 has been mentioned and still seems to work, do a search on this forum.

My Laptop HP Envy 4-1212tu had preinstalled windows8 (windows8 sticker is in the back of the laptop). For some reasons the hard disk was formatted and there is no recovery now. I've installed windows8.1 (downloaded from internet) it doesn't activate.
I followed the tutorial option 1 Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create and download the windows8.1 pro using the media creation tool. I've created bootable USB using this iso. When I start installing the windows it prompt for a product key. But it should automatically get the product key from may laptop's BOIS. What should I do now?

Answer:Windows 8.1 activation problem in my laptop

Assuming you have the blue sticker, it should not promt for the key... otherwise it could be core, single language or Bing edition...

Run Showkey (option 5) and let me know the first 4 digits of the OEM Product ID (NOT the key) to check the edition of that key.

EDIT: Sorry just realised that version of Showkey does not have the OEM PID .. you will have to use thisto enter the key to get the PID.
(I'll work on updating Showkey in the meantime)
