Windows 8 Activation fails after 8 months

Question: Windows 8 Activation fails after 8 months

I had Windows 8 Professional edition from ASDF India (Association of Software Developers & Faculties). They had provided a KMS Activated version, which after installation, activated Windows 8 automatically. Also to mention that it is a genuine copy, as I had a special password which was provided by them to log in and download windows 8. However, I was not provided any extra Keys.

After running smoothly for 8 months, today out-of-the-blue a message pops up saying Windows 8 is not activated. The error shows as follows :

Error : 0x8007232B
Description : DNS Name does not exist.

I tried to follow the steps mentioned in this Microsoft Help article Error 0x8007232b or 0x8007007B occurs when you try to activate Windows, but could not solve the error.

Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Windows 8 Activation fails after 8 months

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows 8 Activation fails after 8 months

KMS is not legal activator, that serial number was probably black listed.

This is a short history of my OS activity. I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8.1 sometime early last year that went very well (never used 8.0). At the end of the year I upgraded to Windows 10 and that also went very well. Two weeks ago I saw a notice at the bottom right of my screen asking me to activate windows by going to the settings, however I have been unable to activate windows. I made several attempts to correct this without success. I used SFC and the Dism tools, none of them helped. Finally I used the MGADiag tool but the copy command fails with this message "failed to create output files, hr= 0x80070002. Please contact support.

If your Windows 10 was activated before, then you have a digital licence stored on Microsoft's activation servers tied to the hardware of your PC. You should be able to do a clean install and skip entering a key (click 'I don't have a key' when asked) and it will activate automatically as soon as it can contact the activation servers.

The digital licence is only valid for one edition (Home or Pro). It is vital you do a clean install of the same edition as you had before. If it is not activating you may have installed the wrong one. If you had Home before you must install Home again, or if you had Pro you must install Pro.

My guess is that you installed the wrong edition.

Hi, I bought a new SSD for my x121e, installed a fresh windows 7 home premium on it (with a downloaded iso-file) and everything works fine - except the activation of the windows key (that I found on my x121e). What can I do? Thanks, J

Answer:x121e -> new SSD -> windows activation fails

Hello,

Try reinserting the original drive, creating the recovery media for it, and using that to install Windows 7 Home Premium instead of the downloaded .ISO file.  It should have all the correct drivers as well as be able to properly activate when it recognizes the ThinkPad X121e.

Hi,

I installed one of my pcs from an XP SP2 disk.

About 3 times, the following scenarion happened: I called Microsoft and activated my copy of Windows XP. That went fine. Then upon the next boot (I believe), the computer hangs on boot up. I looked in safe mode and I believe it hung on a file drvmain.sdb. Now with my reinstallation of windows xp, I have now reactivated for the 3rd time, and my computer is still running.

Can anyone think of what I should do before I shut my computer down so this boot failure will not happen? The file drvmain.sdb is in the AppPatch directory - it has August 4, 2004 3:00PM as the date and time. Is the SP2 version of the file continuing unchanged? Should I copy this file to a cache - could it be the cache version that XP is hanging up on, if so, I can just copy it over to the cache.

Just curious if anyone can help me not have the boot failure this time, which will be the 3rd time. If copying the file to the cache would work, I'll do it, or if reinstalling sp2 to get the right version (why is not right, if this is true).

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Windows XP sp2 fails to boot after activation

The computer I have had the hangs on drvmain.sdb on is NOT on the Internet. Are their security and/or other patches not included with the SP2 file that are not getting automatically downloaded? Or is the sp2 file good enough - are their different versions of Windows XP sp2, some with additions to sp2?

I have a Family Three Pack License and activated all three within the last couple of months with no problem.

I replaced the motherboard and processor in one machine and of course Windows required activation.

Online activation fails as expected and when I go through the Telephone Activation System it fails as well.

My problem is and has been since yesterday the system does not transfer me to an activation specialist to explain the situation. The system says they are unable to process my call and to call back later.

Anyone else having this problem?

Answer:Windows 7 Telephone Activation - Fails

Here is a list of worldwide numbers. Some even have local numbers. I would call trying both (if your area has two). Call during off hours. Late at night or early morning may be best. Your problem seems to be unique. You may be calling from a high call area and not enough suport.

Hello,
I tried everything to solve this enduring problem. We have about 10 pc's at the company. All with windows 7 professional x64. One of them fails to activate. We work with a windows 2008 SBE server domain
 - Activating online gives error 0x80070005.
- Closing the internet conenction and trying again gives me the option to activate through the phone method. Doing that gives the same error 0x80070005 "access denied".
We have no firewall enabled. Disabled mcafee antivirus.Tried logging in as domain admin and as local admin.
Does anyone has an idea about what i could try next?

Thanks in advance.

Hello

I had made this thread a few days back when my PSU went up in smoke frying my old Gigabyte mobo as well.

I installed a new motherboard today (different brand and make) and since then my Windows has been failing to validate. I called the automated voice service and after entering the installation ID, they said that the no. of installations have exceeded the user agreement. I have been using this same Windows key for over 5 years.

Please advise how I can re-activate my Windows 7. Do I need to reinstall windows?

I tried to connect with their support reps but the office hours are now over.

Thanks

Windows 7 Microsoft retail or OEM pre-installed?

I started getting "Optional update delivery is not working" window with message "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting". Clicked "Go online and resolve now", installed Windows Activation Update, restarted, tried activating, got message "This product key could not be used", and code 0xC004C008.

I have the Windows 7 install disk, with its Certificate of Authenticity and product key, in front of me. I do not think it is counterfeit. The product key fragment in the report is the same as the product key on the install disk

I am hoping for some advice on interpreting the MGADiagTool report from y'all. This may be an easy one to call, perhaps related to being OEM instead of Retail. I don't know.

Thanks!

Answer:Windows 7 Activation fails, not counterfeit, have OEM install DVD

All that appears to be wrong is that you neglected to activate within the grace period.
Having said that, the Key should not be 'on the install disk' at all - it should only be on the COA sticker (which should be attached to the machine's case).

telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

Hello
My Activation fails, with Original Windows 7 pro DVD version, and wonder if anyone can help.
I have here below described it and added the details from the genuine tool from Microsoft.

I bought the original license a few years back in Denmark, and my laptop went down about 6 month back, and I have to buy a new laptop, where I wanted to install it on,
but it is refusing despite it being an original windows. I can take a picture and forward it to support if needed.

As i know you should be able to use it, but i am in Kenya right now and i am not sure if that is the issue.

Sincerely

Hello,
I am currently reinstalling Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 for a friend, and I can't seem to activate it using the COA key found on the underside of the notebook. Upon entering the key I receive a "The product key you have entered does not appear to be a valid Windows 7 product key. Please check your product key, and type it again." message. I have already run "legitcheck.hta", and it confirms that this version is genuine.

Apart from that, I am not able to use the often phone activation option, as entering "slui.exe 4" only gets me to the "Windows Activation" screen, with the options "Buy a new product key online", "Type a different product key" and "Contact Microsoft to help resolve this problem".

Below is the MGAD output.

Answer:Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 Activation fails

Hi, Welcome to SF

1.) Call notebook support and explain the situation to them and they will ask you for some information about the laptop (ie. serial number, model, etc.) and will sometimes provide a new key that will get you activated ( OEM versions are supported by the manufacturer and not MS so they are suppose to be the ones that verify the purchase and provide support to get the system reactivated if there are problems )

2. If notebook manufacturer will not help then call the MS activation hotline and explain to them that the Software required a reinstall and notebook manufacturer will not help will sometimes get MS to provide help (they will ask for information about the system to ensure you are installing the correct version that came with the system and will want you to give them any info you can still read from the sticker as well as the model and serial number of the laptop etc. )

Normally since you are dealing with a laptop that did come with the OS preinstalled one or the other will provide an activation response code that will activate the system but it does sometimes take a bit of talking with the support staff to get it done.

I was refreshing Windows 10 to fix some issues with the store, when after at least 90% completion, the PC looped into restarting again and again.

Eventually, I installed windows 10 from a USB, and now i've lost my upgrade, and Microsoft views it as two PC's. In addition to this, clicking the change key option, simply freezes the settings app, meaning that even if i had a new windows 10 key, I couldn't even enter it.

Is there a way to move the license from the non-existent first PC to the actual real current incarnation, I don't have 190 pounds to throw away like this.

Answer:Windows refresh fails, after clean install no activation.

Your First installation of Windows 10 on that PC was as an upgrade - correct ??

You should then be able to perform a Clean Installation and Windows 10 will activate..

When Re-installing Windows 10 just "SKIP" when asked for product keys..

Also be sure the use the same edition of OS - Home or Pro

Re-installing the wrong edition will result in activation error

Hello,

Please read this one carefully - as the problems seems quite common - but I can't use any of the fixes

I brought my zoostorm tower with out an OS - and purchased a copy of windows 8.1 OEM separatley from ebuyer.com

Everything was going fine - then suddenley when my PC booted up it asked me to activate and took me to pc settings where I get an error saying I couldn't activate - try again later or contact support.

A google on the the web tells me to run SLUI04 - which I do - but after selecting my country it just hangs - if I try and activate by telephone it just asks me for groups of numbers...which of course I don't have ?

Seem to be going round circles ! really fustrating - any ideas

Answer:8.1 Asking for Activation months after install

The phone activation will ask for your Windows 8 license number. After you input that into the phone, it will check and give you back a long list of numbers that you put into the activation screen.

Hi,I have a X230 laptop and I run the System Health and Diagnostics and it seems the HDD has failed 2 of the tests from there: "Targeted read test" and "SMART short self-test"The same program says my waranty expires in 240 days, but I am sure I purchased the cheapest waranty option, so I don't know what exactly is covered by this. Can you please give me some advice about how I should contact Lenovo in order to replace my HDD if it is covered by the waranty? Thanks,Razvan

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:X230 HDD fails after less than 6 months...

AFAIK all ThinkPads are covered by at least 1 year warranty. The HDD is covered by this warranty so you should be able to get it replaced.

I would contact Lenovo support and provide them with the results of  System Health and Diagnostics. That should be sufficient to establish that the HDD is failing.

I hope you have already created Recovery media and/or have recent backups of the data on your HDD. Lenovo will send you a replacement HDD but you'll be responsible for restoring Windows and your data onto it.

But I do not want to use the activation now
what is the maximum duration that i can keep activation code without using it ?

Answer:Question about Kaspersky 3 Months Promo Trial Activation

Well for sure the license key will activate only once you enter so that it will count the remaining days.

Do not activate your license(s) until you absolutely have to.
The licensing period now starts when you activate your license for the first time.

My reply to John Lewis
Hi Terry
Thank you for the letter. To recap. We chose John Lewis to buy our Dell laptop from because of John Lewis' reputation. My 5 month old laptop suddenly refused to boot after 5 months. After investigations on the Dell Forum online, we found the error code given was consistent with battery problems, one in particular stood out, an under warranty 6 week old laptop. On the forum the owner of the laptop was advised by Jennifer of Dell to open the laptop, remove the battery and 'discharge' the static electricity. We decided against opening the laptop ourselves and return it to John Lewis and ask them to carry out the test. On arrival at the store on Sunday 31st July and explaining the problem the manager informed us that it was 'law' under the 'Data Protection Act' that my laptop hard drive would be immediately wiped. I expressed concern as my data had not been backed up and it was agreed that a note would be placed on the laptop for the John Lewis technician to speak to me before it was wiped. The technician was on holiday until Wednesday 3rd August. I received a call from the John Lewis technician who informed me that he could not fix the problem, I asked him if the battery had been removed and he informed me that it hadn't, he had spoken to Dell and tried to start the machine in 'safe' mode' and discharge the electricity without the battery being taken out. He spoke to me about an item that Dell sold which... Read more

The Desktop was left over winter and failed to boot on return. It freezes on an ASUS screen - is this a Boot Screen? Have to pull the plug to shut down. Cannot view XP CD disk or Floppy Start-UP disk. Booting with F8 or Delete does not always enter CMOS setup or Safe Mode. It did ONCE boot up to Windows and seemed to work OK. I tried to run CHKDSK but it froze again on the ASUS screen during a normal Restart. New CMOS battery fitted but it made no difference. When I get into Safe Mode, the screen is almost illegible due to flicker as is the ASUS screen (at which it freezes). The exit options at the ASUS screen do not work - ie Tab and Alt F2. When I can get into CMOS / BIOS Set-UP the screen is stable and all seems correct. It does not recognise the XP CD on boot-up. It used to recognise the Start-up floppy and go into Safe + Command Prompt, but now it says it is the wrong disk.Any ideas on how to tackle this? Thanks in anticipationKen

I update and save quite a few files each day, and I can see in File History that there are many saved versions for these files.
This would fill up my backup drive fairly quickly, and therefore, I need to reduce 'Keep saved versions' from the default of 'forever' to about 3 months.  But does this mean that all files older than 3 months will be deleted my File History backup?
What happens to all my files that have only ever been saved once, but are older than 3 months?  Are these retained in File History or deleted?
The forums on File History do no make this very clear.

Question: activation fails

I had to re-load vista due to windows updates killing my computer.  It will not take the product key attached to my Dell computer and told me to call for a new key which i did but after receiving the same number twice it tells me that the confirmation
id does not match the installation id.  It tells me that my copy of Windows is not genuine.  Well if it isn't then I think that is an issue that should be taken up with Dell because that is where I got it.  So anyway I still don't have a version
of Windows that is registered.

I've been experimenting installing Windows 10 FCU on an old 2004 PC (see System 2 spec).

I originally installed a cheap Windows 7 licence then did an in place upgrade to Windows 10 which is activated with a digital licence linked to my MS account.

I then found some cheap RAM to increase the memory from 2GB to 4GB and replaced the HDD with a cheap SSD. Windows is still activated. I've also found a cheap CPU upgrade for the same motherboard. Do you think Windows will stay activated if I upgrade the CPU or am I pushing my luck?

I read somewhere the PC's activation signature is determined from the licence code and hardware configuration. Is the hardware configuration always referenced to the initial installation of Windows 10 or is it amended as you make changes to the hardware?

Answer:How Many Hardware Changes Before Activation Fails?

From mine and other peoples testing, it seem there is a limit of three times a digital licence can be transferred.

However, if original 7 key is full retail (unlikely if cheap), you can install windows 7 an unlimited number of times (only on one pc at a time), but will need to use telephone activation periodically.

Once windows 7 licence is transferred to a new pc, you can install windows 10 and use windows 7 key to activate.

I have a HP desktop with W-7 that the HD is failing. (Almost failed)
I can't do a clone or a system image.

I installed a new HD and booted from my latest USB Upgrade from the Windows Media Creation tool.
I skipped the activation as it installed.
Now when I use the original product key, it fails to activate.
What am I doing wrong?

Pete

Answer:Clean install fails activation

What version did you get with the free upgrade, Home or Pro? And what version are you installing now? They have to match. If your previous install was activated it should have had a digital entitlement. On a clean install on a PC with a digital entitlement, when asked for a key, you just click skip. If you installed the same version you got via the free upgrade it should activate without issue.

I had upgraded from W8.1 and Windows 10 was activated. I was under the impression that I didn't need a product key and that my PC would be recognized after doing a clean install. Now I have W10 installed fresh, but get the error code: Error code: 0xC004C003

Answer:Activation fails Error code: 0xC004C003

I've given up on upping the laptop to W10 after numerous attempts. Now for my PC. I have installed the W10 upgrade which is activated. I did a boot to DVD and performed a fresh install. It asked for the product key several times (skipped) and once installed I was unable to activate. So I restored my W10 upgrade partition. Then I read where it was necessary to run the install from within Windows selecting setup.exe from the W10 iso on the DVD. Again Microsoft wanted a key. I used the one that Speccy had shown for the W10 upgrade and it wasn't accepted; so I stopped the install and here I am still with the activated W10 upgrade. I didn't want to go through the trouble of installing and not being able to activate. I would like to do a fresh install; any ideas?

Answer:Win 7 activation fails after hardware addition, tel sup does not start

The installation is counterfeit - there is a hacker's Activation Exploit installed.
The Product Key is from an ASUS machine
Your machine is a Medion, manufactured in early 2009, 6 months before the launch of Windows 7.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

I have been using a self signed cert through the various versions of ATA. I am on 1.7 now. I generated an internal cert (picked legacy cng, default encryption algorithm, 2048 key length, etc).  Loaded on center server. I can pick the cert in the
console, and it syncs with the gateway successfully.  When I go to activate, it says activation failed.  I didn't know if there was a log that would give more detail on why it failed.  Good news though, revert option works.
Thanks,

Hello there,
I have some troubles installing or rather activating windows 7 pro 64bit OEM.

I pretty much did what is described here: Clean install of Windows 7 on SSD in ThinkPad T460. Stuck between rock and a hard place. - Lenovo Community

In short:
I bought a Lenove T460 this summer, which came preinstalled with windows 7 Pro. But with no COA (Certificate of Authentity) sticker anywhere, not even under the battery. The only sticker I found was a windows 8 pro one. So I assume that my laptop came with a downgraded windows 7.

Now I wanted to have a clean install of windows 7.

- So what I did first was to create a USB stick with the Recovery image, created via the Lenovo ThinkVantage Tool, to be able to restore if anything goes wrong.
- What I did next was to get a windows 7 iso via the WindowsIsoDownloader (e.g. from here: Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool)
- Downloaded the ISO and 'injected' the USB3 drivers successfully as described here: How to Install Windows 7 with only USB 3.0 Ports
- And to be able to choose the correct version of windows which was preinstalled I followed this link: How to Choose Desired Windows 7 Edition / Version During Setup? - AskVG
One of the comments there (from Gab) said:
"If you have a PC with an OEM product key on it set EditionID to the proper Windows 7 version, set Channel to OEM and set VL to 0.
This will install a perfectly legal operating system that passes activation. As a long-time service tech I've done it hu... Read more

Hi,

I have a Dell mini that needed a fresh installation. Installing from the factory restore partition did not solve the inability to run updates.

So I have a Win7 installation disk and I used it to wipe the disk and install Win7 Starter again. I had pulled the product key from the previous installation that was fresh from the restore partition.

And activation failed with code 0xC004E003.

It looks like there is no more phone in. So I ran the WGA tool and here is its output. Any insight would be appreciated.

Good evening, it has been a while. I got a custom built computer about a year ago so that I can play FSX and P3D reasonably well. Everything seemed to go ok, not great, just ok. This are my specs:
Intel i7 [email protected] - Nvidia EVGA GTX 970 4gb - Asus Z97 Maximus Hero VII - WD black series 1TB HD - Corsair RM series RM850 - Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW 500gb SSD.
About a month ago I started to notice that my wifi connection would be lost, then come back on its own. It got worse about two weeks ago, so I tried running the troubleshooter, it failed saying an error prevented it from running. Odd I thought.
I tried running windows updater, it downloaded a number of files to update, but continuosly failed to install 3 of them, apparently related to Microsoft Net Framework.
This morning I decided to uninstall P3D, and install a clean updated version, and the setup failed, never happened before. In the forums it adviced to make sure Direct X9 is installed, tried doing that and it failed as well.
This is very stressful, and affects my immune system, which is not good for me. Can someone here please be kind enough to take some time to help me solev this mess, thanks very much.
This are some logs from what happened today.

Hi!
So my computer went up in smoke, a big white plume of smoke, yay. I got most parts replaced under warranty, unfortunetly the motherboard and GPU had to be replaced with newer parts. My installation of Windows 10 Pro is a free upgrade from Windows 8.1 Pro but now fails due to the hardware change. Stupid me forgot to link my license to my Microsoft account, although I dont know if that would have helped. So what are my options now? Thankful for any advice you can give me.

Greetings!

This is relatively new experience for me and I have spent some time Googling for solutions.

A friend of mine upgraded his genuinely activated Windows 8 Pro Parallels virtual machine to Windows 10 Pro. After the upgrade, he finds that his Windows 10 Pro is not activating. When I check, the error 0xC004C003 states that the activation is being blocked.

A common suggestion I have encountered was to install the OS from scratch, but that isn't practical in this situation. I am also aware that with Windows 10 the licensing is based on unique hardware identification, which makes me feel that this might affect virtual machine installations due to the nature of virtualizaiton, but surely Microsoft had thought about this before rolling out Windows 10 with the new licensing scheme (or at least I hope).

Another suggestion I read and tried was "slrmgr.vbs /rearm" --> reboot --> "slrmgr.vbs /ato". I still receive the same error. I also tried "slrmgr.vbs /ipk Windows8KeyHere" but it didn't work. I received an error code "0xc004e016" about the key being invalid.

Any ideas?

Answer:Mac Parallels Windows 8 Pro (genuine activation) upgraded to 10 Pro, activation block

If he doesn't want to reinstall, call Microsoft's licensing number and complain.

I purchased said unit Sept. last year and within a few months the battery started discharging for no reason I could see. Battery returned to Lenovo, tested and a new battery sent out (old one apparently kaput). I thought the problem was solved until a few days ago when... Battery starts discharging again for no reason I can see. Laptop eventually went into hibernation. Unplugged charger, plugged back in, switched on then powered up the laptop and the battery started charging. This sequence of events was repeated 3 times in 1 week, until yesterday when powering up the laptop failed. Took the battery out and tried laptop on charger only. Nothing. Put battery back in and tried to power up - then noticed battery indicator gave 3 orange flashes 1 second apart before stopping. Did the battery discharge thing (pressing in the power button etc.). Still nothing. The unit seems to have failed completely. Can someone tell my what I might be dealing with here - a failed motherboard? Yet again I'm going to have to send this laptop back for repair, and it's been nothing short of a nightmare because I rely on it to do work. I've never experienced something like this before with a purchased laptop and I suspect the original battery problem was caused by a fault inside the laptop. As the machine is still within warranty can I request a new machine or a full refund because I simply don't want to use something which may be inherently unstable? Looking at the views ... Hello and thanks for reading. Let me begin by saying I've been trying to figure this problem out for hours and hours now, and every solution I find that looks promising, just leads me in circles.

I'm trying my best to avoid a clean install.

The problem started while playing a game, causing a BSOD. After a restart, I noticed some of my programs just didn't boot up, for example Core Temp. I attempted to manually start Core Temp and received the following error: "The system could not find the environment option that was entered."

That problem lead me here: The system could not find the environment option that was entered. - Microsoft Answers

Which, obviously, did nothing for me. I tried to create a new user, but when I click the link in the control panel to do so, nothing happens.

I then tried to repair my windows installation using my disc, and it said it could not find any problems. After searching some more, I found another solution would be to perform an upgrade to my Windows installation to fix the problems.

I put the disc in, nothing happened so I went to the setup.exe directly and got the same error as above. So I then booted in safe mode, and it loaded. I got excited until it said something like "an error prevented a compliance check from completing"

And just to be very clear, my windows 7 is valid, I'd be more than happy to share an image of my newegg receipt or even my box to get that out of the way, as I've seen a lot of fla... Read more

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

I would also restore my default program association to solve the SFC problem, which I believe should be associated with .exe file: Default File Type Associations - Restore - Windows 7 Forums. If not the tutorial's author will know for sure.

If not a Repair Install should be able to sort this after getting clean of any infection.

I would also not dread a Clean Reinstall which almost always is better than getting a new PC given the load of crapware and useless utilities larded onto new consumer PC's. We specialize in this here so can help you get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which steps are the same for retail.

hi all

is SLP loader functions the same as windows activator?

i'm using Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as my OS. currently, it's already prompting and i have 27-days left for activation

this all happened when i initiate System Recovery using the same CD installer i used to setup the same computer almost 3-years ago. i did so as it hung-up and i can't managed even to go into Safe Mode, as well, the so called Last Known Good Configuration but still to no avail

i used the same CD Key i used initially before but it won't accept or recognized it where it states that if my CD Key was right and still not updating then i should telephone Microsoft

wow!

can i do that when i'm not in the continental USA much more these computer was registered not under my name since it's only a hand-me-down or surplus which is beneficial to me

so i'm looking for SLP loader or windows activator (if it function the same way) intended for Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as it may resolve my issue

hope it's okay to inquire and that if it's not advisable to reply post in here, i welcome it through PM

Answer:windows activation (27-days left for activation)

If it's a valid key, you should have no problem calling MS to re-activate Windows.

It should give you an option to pick which country you're from on the activation window, and then a number to call.

So you try to run the 'rate my computer' and it fails showing this error message:

This fails and gives the following error messages:

You might confirm this using HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools utility as seen here:

I took on a basket case for a friend. Machine hadnt booted for months. I got it running in normal mode after it churned for 2 hours and found outdated Norton Internet security and AVG running. Unable to uninstall them using uninstall, so got in registry and deleted all mentions of AVG, Norton and Symantec. Managed to download and install Windows updates and SP 3 for XP as well as IE 8. Tried to install Microsoft security essentials but it won't install. Ran Malware bytes which found about 15 threats which I let it delete. I then installed while online Avast! and it seems to run.Tried to install Word viewer, got error message, then ran Malwarebytes again, one more threat found. Now only boots in safe mode with networking, so tried installingword viewer again, same error (install failed). IE now won't start.

I think I must have accidentally deleted something I need while going through registry deleting Norton stuff. I tried System File Checker but it wanted original install CD to proceed and I don't have it.

I have tried running Combofix in safe mode without letting it fix anything just for info, but Combofix won't get past the opening autoscan screen. I tried letting it run for two hours, but no scanning takes place.

Any hope other than complete system restore and loss of owner's data?

Answer:Boots only in safe mode, windows installer fails, IE fails

Sounds to me as if a clean install is a good idea...after moving valued data files to safety.

I would move files simply by connecting the drive as a slave to a different system...and moving the files considered valuable.

When friends bring me their infected systems, that's usually the quickest/surest method that I use to ensure that they have a working system that is free of malware.

To run chkdsk /r in Windows 8/8.1 you will need to open the Elevated Command Prompt.  The easiest way to do this is to press the Windows key and the X key.   A menu will open with the option Command Prompt (Admin), click on this.

You will see a window similar to the one below.

When the Elevated Command Prompt opens copy and paste chkdsk /f in the Command Prompt, if this is a SSD you do not want to run the /r switch, you will want to use chkdsk /f then press Enter.

You will receieve the message "CHKDSK cannot be run because it is in use by another process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts?  <Y/N>".

Type in Y and press Enter.

This will take a while to run, please be patient and allow it to complete the scan.  Do not stop this scan as this can damage your operating system.

When the scan is finished please download and run ListChkdskResult.

This will open Notepad with the results of the chkdsk scan.  Please copy and then paste this log in your topic.

Hello more knowledgeable person than myself. I've been having trouble trying to get my computer to boot; I'd noticed a drop in performance (still unsure why) so decided to boot up in safe mode and poke around - it was not my original intention to install Advanced SystemCare 5.3.0 but somehow it happened. I ran the 'deep-care' utility and everything was working fine, my computer rebooted and performed a disk check: there weren't any errors that I can remember apart from [something along the lines of] 60 reparse files. Following this my computer restarted and Windows failed to load, restarting to show my startup repair - this isn't the first time this has happened, a similar thing occurred following previous attempts at boosting speed, though before I was able to get Windows up and running using an Ubuntu installation disk, although I still don't understand why - no need to say that it didn't work this time.
Startup repair refuses to work and my system restore points have vanished; I would try doing a repair install if I had a copy of the disk. I built the computer myself a few months back, borrowing a Windows 7 installation disk from a friend (who has now lost said disk), startup repair does tell me something about 'Problem Signatures' which are included below:

The battery in my first gen S10 died after about 7 months. Fortunately, I was still well within my warranty so Lenovo held up their end and replaced it. However, after about 8 months that second battery too no longer holds a charge and my original warranty has since expired. Phone support reiterated as much and denied any help.  This leads me to ask, shouldn't the second battery carry with it a full one year warranty? How can Lenovo not stand by a battery that dies in less than a year? This seems like more than just bad luck and has me questioning whether I will purchase another Lenovo product in the future.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hard Disks:
1. 32GB mSATA boot drive (Only windows core files and programs installed on it)
2. 1TB Toshiba 5400rpm (for Programs and Games)
3. 1TB Toshiba 5400rpm (for Movies, songs etc)

This laptop had Windows 7 installed in it with Intel Rapid Storage technology enabled. Few months ago, I changed the SATA mode to AHCI and installed windows 7 on 32GB mSATA drive. I kept the C drive only for windows and didn't install anything else on it. I created an MKLINK for some folders such as Common Files/Adobe and Appdata/Adobe so that heavy applications won't eat space on the little drive.
It was working fine for about 4-5 months, till one day the Windows 7 simply failed to boot. It was stuck on the Starting Windows screen forever. I searched on the sevenforums website and tried a lot of things such as cleaning the RAM, disabling startup programs and services etc. But it didn't help. neither did sfc /scannow nor windows repair using installation disc.
I could boot in safe mode but not normal mode.

So, I decided to reinstall Win7 from DVD that came with dell.
But the installation was stuck at final step of install after first reboot.
Again i tried several tricks described in forums, like checking for Legacy Boot in BIOS, making sure SATA is in AHCI, unplugging all USB drives as well... Read more

Answer:Windows Fails To Boot, Fails to Install

Your post is quite interesting but too much for me to absorb at one sitting. With that said I will voice a single concern and then ask a follow-up question:

My concern is this:

I changed the SATA mode to AHCI and installed windows 7 on 32GB mSATA drive

Above seems too small for extended growth.

Now, are you trying to do a clean install or reinstall? If that latter, could there be an issue related to the above (eg, not enough room)? I apologize for not try to absorb everything you stated; however, I made it all the way through high school using Cliff's Notes and I never had to read a single book! Guess I'm just lazy...

Hi everyone!

First time poster, long time listener...

I work IT for a moderately-sized business and I just did a clean install on one of the user laptops that isn't in rotation at the moment.

I clean installed Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit. Nothing has been installed on this PC (besides CCleaner, which I ran a few times and then uninstalled). It is currently updated to Service Pack 1.
The computer is an HP ProBook 4525s.

Now, onto the meat of the issue.

I attempted to run the Windows 7 Convenience Roll-up to save time on updates, but I'm having quite a few issues and some catch-22s.

-The .net framework that comes in the roll-up installs fine, no issues.
-The actual updates- "june_rollup", "servicestack" and "wmf5" all pull up the "Windows Standalone Installer" dialogue box, but that's it. Once it reaches that box, it just looks like it's "installing updates" forever. I had it sit overnight last night and when I came into the office today, nothing. Still in the same exact place.

Troubleshooting attempted/Questions answered:

- No AV is on the system. I just did a clean install.
- I am the administrator on the device.
- I attempted to update Internet Explorer (some support articles mentioned that), but I run into the catch-22 of "update it through Windows Update!" (which isn't working, just searches forever) or to run the download straight from Microsoft's site, which then tells me to u... Read more

Microsoft has let the cat out of the bag a week early and stated "there is not another WinHEC planned before Windows 7 is released."
As the WinHEC conference is an annual affair, providing the conference isn't cancelled next year then this would put Windows 7 on target for a RTM before November next year.
The revelation follows comments from ASUS CEO Jerry Shen discussing the future of the ASUS Eee PC in an interview with Laptop Mag. "I think in the future in the second half of next year we will put Windows 7 on Eee PCs" said Shen.
If all of this is true and Microsoft is on target with Windows 7 then recent rumours of a Beta 1 in December would not be far off.

So what will happen with my:

Windows 8 Release Preview
Evaluation Copy. Build 8400

Is there a way to turn it from a preview into Windows 8 Pro?
Can I install over it? (and keep everything the way it is: programs, settings, etc.)
Can I continue to use it as a preview or will my computer evaporate into a cloud of smoke if I do that?

Hello! I built a custom computer & installed OEM Windows 7 Pro-OA.

The program activated with no problems and has been updating all along, with no problems until yesterday, which interestingly is exactly 3 months to the hour that I installed it. I received absolutely zero notices of problems until the "Windows not Genuine" issued happened.

Hopefully someone can help me. Here is the report:

That looks like a problem to me, unsure of what you might need to do. Somebody will be along that knows much more than me to help out. Just thought I'd point out what jumped out immediately.

Strange that it would be three months to the day before anything came up, especially with an OEM installation and an the indication of a retail license. I've always thought it was either one or the other.

it used to charge 100%,but lately its stops at 80%,I thought the battery life would last a few years, can any body help,i would be so great full TONYX

Answer:lap top only charges 80%,its only 8 months old,windows 8

mmm... often seen this to be resolved by allowing the battery to discharge "fully" - totally flat etc... Then recharge...I have seen suggestions/recommendations to allow a battery to fully discharge now and then - so as to prevent any memory effects (which lithium batteries are not "supposed" to suffer). Is said to prolong the life...Some suggest remove the battery if running on mains power; as that too will lengthen battery life as battery will hold charge for a while and then it naturally decay...I have an elderly/olde Acer Aspire (2005 at least) with the original battery still OK... It has been removed for periods of time - when it appeared to have charging problems; it wouldn't charge up properly. But after a total clean install/rebuild of the operating system (XP-Pro) the battery charges fine to a full 100%, and retains it too...message edited by trvlr

Just recently, my super fast notebook struggles to do anything. It fails to load any pages in a browser before it shows 'not responding' and / or crashes the browser completely.  I've uninstalled the Chrome browser and tried again and the same thing happens. The same behaviour in the Edge browser where I also cleared all the data. I recently installed Adobe Photoshop and wondered if that could be the problem so I went to the control panel to uninstall it.... but the control panel freezes and so far I've been unable to uninstall it. I'm now having to use a work laptop for personal use as the notebook which was purchased in January is simply useless, slow and freezes a lot when trying to do tasks that it recently used to zip through with ease. Can anyone help? Seriously i do not want this operating system on my laptop it has totally screwed up the laptop its constantly crashing every time it wakes up from sleep and is super glitchy just working within the OS. So can someone please help i do not care what i have to do i have backed up all my stuff. I just want it off. Thanks

Answer:Uninstall windows 10 after having it for 6 months

I have done two clean installs does that mean you have the DVD for your previous op sys? (Windows 7 or 8.1?)
You could buy a new harddrive and install your previous op sys on that.
It could just be that you haven't got the Windows 10 drivers for the hardware, or when you did a clean install of previous op sys you didn't download the drivers for that either.
A few more details would help, what was your previous op sys and what dvds do you have? and what is the make and model of your laptop and did you get the drivers needed?

Is anyone else excited for some of the upcoming changes?

Are you already running the preview version or waiting until the final version so you don't have to reinstall once it ships? I personally am waiting until it ships as I already deal with entirely too many OS's day in and day out. Win 2k3, 2k8, 2012, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8...no more Vista machines. Hopefully no more XP machines soon as well.

Which features are you most excited about? As someone who does a lot of web development the rewritten developer tools in Internet Explorer look promising (I have a preview version on a Windows 7 VM)

Answer:Less than 2 months til Windows 8.1 release day

Been playing with the 9471 release since it came out and there is a lot that's changed in 8.1. As much as people say Microsoft hasn't listened with 8 they really did with 8.1. Short of Metro off, and I do understand that's all a lot of folks care about, just about every other major issue that I know of in 8 was addressed in some fashion in 8.1. Booting to the desktop, some configurability in the hot corners, better Modern app multitasking and support for multiple monitors, better in the box training, better UI cues and guidelines for them, overall much improved in the box Modern apps particularly the Mail and Music clients (though the Photos app lost Facebook and Flikr integration which seems stupid) and the Start Screen is significantly improved with much better manageability and better keyboard and mouse operation though context menuing still needs to be improved.

It's a pretty big step in the right direction but it's not enough to appease the hardcore desktop folks but I do think it will be better accepted by consumers, particularly if next gen Windows 8 tablets are what I'm hoping for. Bay Trail tablets should be a big boost forward in performance and capability, and hopefully the pricing will be there, that's really got to improve.

Microsoft has stepped up its effort to promote its Vista operating system, but Windows XP just isn?t going away. The company reportedly extended the OEM downgrade timeline once again: As of now, system builders can still offer Windows XP downgrades to their customers and will be able to do so until Vista?s second birthday.Click to expand...

Perhaps Win7 should be based on WinXP instead of adding more bloat to Vista? I think Microsoft should get a clue. They should give customers what they want and not what Microsoft wants them to have.

Looks to me like you're having problems accessing the COMONENTS registry hive - although I would have thought that would also make a SFC scan fail.

Hello there.
I recently changed my settings for Windows Update, to let it check for updates, but now it always asks for a restart.
I tried almost every solution, i don't know what to do, i need SP1 for SQL Server 2012 to work, but it's not installing. I even downloaded the update from microsoft's website, but the installer fails.
I tried almost every method i found :
- setting it to never update, then setting it back to automatic
- deleting the registry keys from the Update-er
- deleting the files in SoftwareDistribution
- trying FixIt (normal and aggressive mode)
- trying the FixIt method manually
- renaming the edb.log file in the SoftwareDistribution folder via safe-mode.

I can't give you an error number, since it doesn't show one. It just asks for a restart, but nothing happens. I really need this fixed...

OK, I have exactly 2 days of working with Windows 10, but, after all these years of Windows and studying the OS, I feel I have earned the right to believe that I can see where MS has gone with 10 after this short time. BTW, I have never even booted a W8 PC, and all of my PCs are basically W7 Pro 64, other than a couple of XP Pro machines. I don't feel like I am biased, considering the upgrade is free, but here is what I would like to say:

All respect to all other opinions, but I have an opinion that is framed a little bit unusually. This is that I believe MS absolutely has accomplished one thing with W10. It is fully granny-proofed. I don't think granny will have a single complaint. IMO, this is a nice thing in a very important sense.

This looks 100% to me like a call to get out there and get mother and granny hooked up. It's Windows the granny edition, and I do like that aspect of the upgrade option.

This said, I would also like to say that I don't see the difference between this and Windows 7 under the wrapper, and I confess I don't know why MS would force anyone to upgrade who has W7. I really feel MS should add 5+ years to support for W7 for the sake of business machine owners who work on their PCs. Give IT time to learn everything there is to learn about W7 in corporate environments and give the OS a chance to pass the test of time. I think W7 can win and even with MS charging for it on new PCs. Make the W10 thing an option.

You need to look at the Enterprise version for business use rather than the Pro version. Never been quite sure myself just who the Pro version is intended for. With data you could turn off Bing and Cortana because that's how most of the stuff concerning YOU gets out, but that just leaves you in Google's tender hands. Fact of life - use the internet and your data will be gathered by someone.

Answer:Windows 7 BSOD help please computer 6 months old

While you still can back up as much data as you can onto CD or DVD.
A page is a fixed length block of memory
transferred between physical RAM and storage.

The page fault refers to a particular block its address in Hex form.

Download a copy of memtest and burn the ISO to CDROM. You need to boot from the CD and give your memory a thorough test.

http://www.memtest.org/

I'd also make sure that you are not overclocking your memory or system, as its 6 months old, you may still have warrantry. Sometimes memory errors can be cleared by removing and re-inserting memory modules.

About two months ago, it may have been less, i had my computer sent down by geek squad to get fixed for some part problems, camera, charger port, exc. they had to reinstall windows for my camera to work (... i don't think it does still anyways...) Now i get an error saying it's not genuine. i don't have the key because i have no clue who downloaded it, if it was in store while i dropped it off, or sent out to 1 of 100 possible people who could have fixed it.... i saw a thread earlier about someone who had the same problem, but different scenario i think, this information might help, not sure...

Answer:Windows claims to not be genuine after two months or so

Windows is unable to find the SLIC table in the BIOS required to self-activate the OEM_SLP Key in use

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

i have been using windows 8 pro x64 with media center since around the time it was released and i took advantage of the upgrade offer, and up until about a week ago everything was running smoothly as expected. now in the past few days it says it needs activating and when i try to activate i get an error message, the control+alt+delete results in a delay of about 15-20 mins followed by an error message saying task manager wont open. i have not changed or added any hardware or my system configuration at all, apart from software.

i ran SFC scannow and it found and fixed some corrupt files but the symptoms still remain the same as described after a restart.
can anybody suggest possible fixes, or do i need to reinstall........................

Gazzer

Answer:windows needs activating after approx 6 months

Open the elevated command prompt, type rstrui.exe then press <Enter>. Look in the list to see if you have any restore point created from the previous week when your system was stable and restore it.

As the topic says, my windows updates have been failing for the last eight months and I'm about to give up and do a fresh reinstall.  I'm hoping someone will have a suggestion for me, since I'd rather NOT have to go through the hassel of reinstalling everything. I'm fairly technical, but I'm at a complete loss. This all started back on July 2012 super Tuesday where all the updates downloaded and failed to install.  With each successive month of released updates, the list of failed gets longer and longer, the only exception being that the MSSE updates seem to go through with no problem.I've googled the heck out of the error code, but none of the fixes I found worked. I've tried the built-in updates troubleshooter, but it lies to me, tells me it fixed the issues, but the updates fail all the same. I've tried manually downloading the updates from their KB articles, but individually they fail to install.I'd love to hear if anyone has experienced this or has any ideas. Thanks!

My HP PC is 20 months old and they have decided not to provide the drivers for the graphic card (which I find is over 5 years old) for Windows 10. I've been in touch with their customer service, after being passed around for hours on end, and been told "Your PC is 20 months old, we are selling new graphics cards that will work with Windows 10, we are not providing drivers for your existing graphics card because, that way we sell more.

What an attitude !

Answer:WARNING HP PC 20 MONTHS OLD, NOT UPGRADABLE TO WINDOWS 10

Whose customer service? There are 3 companies that make Graphics cards drivers for Windows PC's and they are AMD (ATI), Nvidia and Intel. They make the drivers for the device and send them to HP and HP can modify for their specific  hardware. MS can only  If Any of those 3 don't support the graphics card Microsoft can't change that.

I'm on 8.1 and have been avoiding updating ever since the huge Windows 10 controversy over privacy and telemetry and all that ****. But I think now, for the sake of security, I should probably think about installing some of the dozens, if not hundreds of updates, I've been ignoring. I'm gonna list all of them here. Could somebody please tell me which of them are safe to install and which might sneak Windows 10 onto my system?

On second thoughts, I won't LIST them ALL. I'll describe them. Quicker. I've got a security update for Silverlight, a definition update for Windows Defender, a cumulative security update for Internet Explorer 11, a whole bunch of security updates for Adobe Flash Player, Microsoft .NET Framework, and Windows, a whole bunch of non-security updates for Windows, and the latest version of the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. Which of all of these updates are OK and which should I hide?

(I wonder if Windows falls under the definition of malicious software.)

Answer:Haven't Updated Windows In Months

All Windows Defender Definitions should be updated as soon as you get them. You can do that by opening Windows Defender and clicking on Update.
As for Windows 10 updates you are trying to avoid look here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/windows-10-trying-to-force-upgrade.295938/
Look at post #12 Earthling gives a list of updates that are connected to Windows 10 that you might not want to update.

Hello Guys,

Just thought I'd let you know that after my unsuccessful Window 8.1 update on the first day of release I have tried it again this week and this time it has gone really smoothly and I'm very impressed with it.

When I originally installed it it made my computer really slow and several previously installed programs had stopped working so I put a image of pre 8.0 install back on to my computer.

The only problem I have which is very small is that I have set a key on my mouse to show the desktop (minimise all windows), on Win 8 it would minimise everything and the 8GadgetPack sidebar would still be displayed, in 8.1 the sidebar is also minimised which is a little annoying. If I use the minimise all windows shortcut on keyboard (win key+M) it will do what I want but I can't set the button on my mouse to do that.

Also the second problem which I hope will be fixed with a gadget update is the Network gadget doesn't work and any new gadgets I add do not work, I think this is something to do with dpi scaling but I can wait for it to be rectified.
So all those of you who had trouble with the 8.1 upgrade, it might be worth another look at it.

Thanks

Tony

I have XPpro SP2.

I have no idea what causes this but the whole boot seems to screw up in exact the same manner at roughly the exact same time causing me to go through the whole process again and again.

I do a fresh install. Thing srun fine for few months then I begin to get anomalous reboots on startup. This will happen once or twice then it becomes every single time I boot up. It gets to the splash screen then I hear that little click inside the computer indicating it's reset itself. After the 1st reset it seems fine for the rest of the day.

It will go on like this for a while before completely conking out. At some point it will usually stop booting up at all and give me various error messages saying the system files are corrupt. The only solution I've found so far is to nuke it and do a fresh install on new partition. As I havn't reached 'critical' stage yet I couldn't tell you the precise error messages it gives me once it fails to boot as I'm still in the reboot phase.

It baffles me why it happens in such a routine fashion at the same time and in the same way.

Also I forgot how to do it but how do you reinstall windows again over the top of your current one without losing your settings? I think with my version it won't let me do it cos the repair function doesn't work within windows which is why I always have to do a fresh one.

Answer:Windows xp screws up like clockwork after every 3 months after reinstall

Hi,

To do a fresh install over the top - as a multi boot, you install as normal and you should have the option to "Leave system intact (no changes)"
...Or create a new partition in the setup menu.

Is the version of Windows XP SP2 a legit windows CD or did you use a SP1 disk to create the SP2 disc?

If it happens every few month like clockwork, it doesnt seem to me that it has anything to do with hardware, otherwise it would happen everytime, fresh install or not. Does it do the same thing when no USB devices are connected, could it be a software update for one of your USB devices that comes after a couple months from install? Have you tried installing SP3 straight after installing SP2? Give these a try and let me know if you have already or the results :-)

Microsoft launches Windows 7 three months early and slashes price in war against Google Chrome

Microsoft's latest operating system Windows 7 has gone on sale in the UK almost three months ahead of schedule at massively reduces prices, it has emerged.
The software officially goes on sale to the general public on October 22, but Microsoft has released it early with prices starting from ?49.99 for Windows Premium.
Early buyers will be able to snap up Windows 7 for a limited pre-sale period and will save up to ?100 for the Premium package alone.

Microsoft announced early sales of its Windows 7 operating system, just days after Google announced it was releasing a rival product

Those who purchase Windows 7 Professional will pay ?99.99 instead of ?189.99.

A spokesperson for the company has said stocks are limited for the sale which runs from today until August 9.
But all UK versions of Windows 7 will not come with Internet Explorer, which means buyers must install a web browser to upgrade their computer's operating system.
Microsoft is currently in an ongoing legal battle with the EU which said that automatically installing Internet Explorer was anti-competitive to other browsers.
All sales of Microsoft 7 will be based on a first come first served basis, according to The Telegraph.

The early release comes just days after Google announced it would be launching... Read more

Answer:Microsoft launches Windows 7 three months early

Wow is this guy there living under a rock or something, it has nothing to do with google's announcement the preorder sale was planed for july 15 in the uk long before google announced anything. On top of that nothing is being released early, you are only pre-ordering you will not receive windows 7 until Oct 22 same as everyone else.

My local PC shop says you should reinstall windows & format hard drive EVERY 2 MONTHS!! I say this is completely ridiculous as by the time you have put everything back in place - not to mention all the updates for your anti-virus - spyware and adware programmes, it's time to start again!! Surely you should try a repair first etc..

Windows 7 Explorer Failures - Unsolvable for the last 17 months now. - PPRuNe Forums
Basically Win7 explorer hangs with a perpetual hourglass and every fourth or fifth instance just fails with an advice that "Windows is looking for a solution to the problem".
After an assurance that "Windows Explorer will shortly restart", sometimes it does and most times it doesn't.
A number of pposters on that thread are suffering the same symptoms.
Anybody familiar with causes or solutions?

Answer:Windows 7 Explorer Failures - Unsolvable for the last 17 months now.

Have you checked for any system updates recently? Hanging graphics tend toward video graphics drivers being clobbered by MS updates. Also, check to see if screen saver is set to revert to Welcome screen. That worked for me on some machines.

Greetings,

I originally thought it was a Malware issue tampering with the computer. But after going over it withchaslang, we determined it wasn't. I am getting a Code 80242014 error whenever I attempt to install a Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB976972). Below are listed the details for one such install failure.

Installation date: ?6/?26/?2010 12:51 AM

Installation status: Pending

Error details: Code 80242014

Hi ,

Sorry my thread title is quite bad, but my problem can only be described as "weird". For some reason, my laptop has turned crazy recently, the following basically:
I can't access the features from start menu (so can't launch apps, and can't turn off laptop normally.Half of the icons on my toolbar are missing.Using search function only searches the web (i.e. can't search for documents and stuff like control panel :/).Can't open some apps (e.g. any Microsoft Office apps, like PowerPoint- which is really inconvenient).

The list goes on and on, I have been using Windows 10 for around 2 months now, so I really have no clue as to why this problem occurred or how to fix it.

Thanks.

My laptop has been infected for months with cryptowall. Instead of dealing with the issue I just unplugged it and put it aside. Probably not the wisest of ideas, but I was dealing with a family member with cancer. I just want to wipe it clean.  Any help with that process would be greatly appreciated. Please and thank you.

A repository of all current knowledge regarding CryptoWall, CryptoWall 2.0 & CryptoWall 3.0 is provided by Grinler (aka Lawrence Abrams), in this topic: CryptoWall and DECRYPT_INSTRUCTION Ransomware Information Guide and FAQCryptowall typically deletes (though not always) all Shadow Volume Copies with vssadmin.exe so that you cannot restore your files via System Restore or using a program like Shadow Explorer...but it never hurts to try in case the infection did not do what it was supposed to do. Another possible options is to try file recovery software such as R-Studio or Photorec to recover some of your original files but there is no guarantee that will work.At this time there is no fix tool and Decryption of any CryptoWall Files...is impossible since there is no way to retrieve the private key that can be used to decrypt your files without paying the ransom. The only other alternative is to save your data as is and wait for possible updates...meaning, what seems like an impossibility at the moment (decryption of your data) there is always hope someday there may be a breakthrough or possible solution so save the encrypted data and wait until that time. There are also ongoing discussions in these topics:CryptoWall - new variant of CryptoDefense Support & DiscussionCryptoWall 3.0 Support & DiscussionRather than have everyone start individual topics, it would be best (and more manageable for staff) if you posted any questions, comments or requests for assistance in ...
