My user account changed to an hotmail-email account connec

Question: My user account changed to an hotmail-email account connec

It used to be not connected to any email account but when it updated to 8.1 I chose to get an email address for it, so now as a result, the password has to be 8 characters long and I have to use a PIN number , but that's still 4 characters, and I usually use one character password.

So how do I go back to the normal type of user account to use the 1 character password?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, does anyone know what happens if I mistakenly deleted a user account?

When I open my computer, then right click on the "This pc" there is a option called "Manage". Then under manage, there are user accounts. I mistakenly deleted the "Administrators" group from my current account. Only left is standard user group.

The admin account is password protected and I have the password. Is it possible to log into the admin account and change promote back my current account?

I did try to right click "manage", but I get this window (attached file) with no place to put the password. That is slightly annoying. I was trying to reassign myself back in the admin group.

I was thinking of making an account which can modify all items, such adding hardware and items under "Device manager" etc but just limit to not being able to just make a new admin full access account. Seems that deleting the admin solves the not being able to make a new account, but in the process I'm locked out from the admin settings.

Is it possible to create a super-user account just limiting not being able to make new user accounts and have access to all such as device manager? It would be nice to not have to log into admin account just to check newly installed hardware.

Currently, on standard user, I am unable to go to "device manager" and other admin based stuff (with that admin shield logo).

Thanks

So this is probably the strangest problem I have ever encountered with Windows 7. About two or three months ago, I noticed that my user account had suddenly changed into a guest account. I get prompted for an administrator password when trying to do any tasks that require administrator privilege. It is not a huge hassle, as I know the administrator account password.

Here is where it becomes very strange. When I turn my computer on, it automatically logs me into my user account (the guest account). When I got into the user accounts section of the control panel and try to manage user accounts, it shows exactly zero user accounts on my computer. Also, when I try to change my user account (the guest account) to an administrator account, precisely nothing happens.

It gets evens stranger. When I log out of Windows, the only user account I can pick from, to log back into Windows, is the generic "Administrator" account. My user account is nowhere to be found. When I go to the control panel and try to manage accounts, only the administrator account is listed. There is an option turn on a generic guest account, but nothing related to my original user account is shown. Again, this is in contrast to when I am logged into my user account (the guest account), and see exactly zero user accounts listed on the manage accounts screen.

I feel that I am pretty good at avoiding bad websites, and I do have an antivirus program installed (not that that will prevent my ... Read more

Hi and welcome to the Forum
When you refer to the generic Administrator Account do you mean the Account that is hidden in Windows 7? If so did you activate it using this:
Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable If you did the above then this is strange as forgetting the "Hidden admin account you must have at least one ordinary Admin account in Windows 7. You can't operate the system without one!!

I tried to see Skype Video on Windows 10. Huge mistake.
It asked me for a Windows Account. (I just finished understanding what Google Account means).
I happened to have a Windows Account. I entered it and it accepted it.
It then asked that I must also change the password that I use for my profile on my desktop.
I obliged and sacrificed my simple password as it required a strong password.
So now I have a Windows password and my strong user profile password.
I rebooted. Big headache for the past two hours.
Neither passwords worked to let me in my profile (which has Administrator privilege).
I logged in as Administrator, went to Control Panel, Users accounts, hoping that being logged in as Local Admin, I can change the password of my profile. I can see my profile user account, but there is no way to change its password, only to delete or change to ordinary user.
I changed my Windows account password via my mobile.
Still, I can't log in to my profile.
Would somebody kindly help? or should I just dump Windows 10 and move on to Mac?

Hi ikhadduri and welcome to Tenforums.

You say you can log in as an administrator - can you perform a System Restore to get things back the way they were?

Hello.

I've been using Windows 10 for weeks. Until today, it started up just fine by displaying my name and no email address. This is exactly how I want it to be.

Today when Win 10 would not recognize a printer, in order to download an "app" to help with this, I was required to provide a Microsoft email account, which I did (an old Hotmail account I rarely use). Now when I restart or wake up the computer, that old Hotmail account appears as "Administrator". However, I do NOT want that old Hotmail email address associated with this computer.

How can I remove it and get back to logging in with NO associated email address?

NOTE: I do not want to delete the old Hotmail account; just want to remove it from my Windows 10 "Account" menu (My name + Hotmail address + "Administrator").

In case it's required to associate Win 10 with an email address, I use Windows Live Essentials with a company email address. I tried adding it via the "Other Account" option, but Win 10 said it did not recognize the email address I entered, sigh.

I saw threads with a similar question but not quite the same.

Thanks for any help!

You have converted your local user account to a Microsoft account. It's easy to switch back to a local account, just follow the instructions in this tutorial: Local Account - Switch to in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

When you have switched back to a local account and you want to download another app from the Windows Store, follow the instructions in this tutorial (Method Two, Step 5) to keep using your local account to sign in to Windows and only use a Microsoft account to sign in to Store: Store - Sign in with Different Account in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

This is a single user standalone PC, password protected & AFAIK only one person actually uses it. A few weeks ago the user logged on as normal but was faced with a basic screen with none of his icons, & none of his documents, email etc. available. I cured it at the time by doing a Systen Restore I also had a look and discovered that in Documents and Settings, as well as the original user account there were two others - similar to those created when a repair reinstallation is performed, but the user had been using the system earlier in the day & nothing untoward had happened. Still only the one user on the logon screen and in 'User Accounts' so I deleted the extra Docs & settings folders & all was well.Anyway, today the same thing happened but a System Restore hasn't cure it so I'm popping over tomorrow to see what the situation is, but has anyone got any idea what could have created the extra user files? & why would it seem to be logging on to one of the secondary lot of files rather than the main user? The PC is used just for business, nothing other than Word processing and web browsing. It has Kaspersky and accesses broadband through a BT router."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..."

The user account I use, named Skynet, has administrator privileges. Some time back, its almost a month now, I was tinkering with some software, it was about turning XP into Windows 7 or some such thing, and it took a long while to install, and boot, and it kept thrashing the HDD, so I finally removed it with Revo uninstaller. I just got a theme from deviantart that didn't need any installing and things have been running smoothly since then.

The only problem is that now I've got two folders in the "Documents and Settings" folder, one is called "Skynet", which is the old user account, and there's another one that made itself, called "Skynet.O-175D87E694N38". I've changed the numbers while writing them here since I don't know what they are. Now the main account that is being used is this numbered Skynet, the other one seems to be just lying there. I used Unlocker to find out out if it (plain Skynet) is being used, and it showed many programs using that folder, and when I clicked unlock all, everything else got unlocked except for four process under the name of System. I then started deleting the folders inside plain Skynet, and there were one or two folders that were just stuck and wouldn't budge at all and they didn't even have the option to change the owner permissions, so I had to boot from a Linux live CD and delete it all.

The computer is now working properly, so deleting plain Skynet doesn't seem to have made... Read more

Hello, recently i had a computer with a admin user account called fran....she is no longer with us. So this other person decided to take claim to this account and rename it kristina. Im not sure which method she used to change the account name. But now everything that is created in the supposed account name kristina is still showing up as c:/ ....fran .... If i create a new folder on the desktop..it shows it as belonging to fran. I checked the user account in computer managment and it shows it as being in kristinas name...so i dont know.
This is causing problems with the XP fax console putting a copy of the incoming faxs into a folder on the desktop and then sharing it out. Any ideas for fixing the account renaming issue...or am i going to have to blow it away and start the account all over? Thanks for reading

Hi,
I turned on my computer two days ago, logged in as per usual, same pic and same password, the Windows 8 default screen appeared and my customed desktop had gone!

I eventually found my user under My Computer (Network) and all my files are still there but I can't make this the default user and I cant find my Microsoft programs 365 Home, so I am unable to open any of my files. I have tried system restore and it fails.

I have gone into User Accounts and it wont change the type of account. Any changes that I make are gone next time I open or restart my computer.

I have tried running *.exe for the Microsoft programs but that doesn't work either.

I have searched every where for a solution with no results.

Please help I don't want to have to start again!

Answer:User Account changed, microsoft 365 gone

Hello musicbox, and welcome to Eight Forums.

From your description it sounds like you are in a temporary account from getting the "Your user profile was not loaded correctly! You have been logged on with a temporary profile." error.

If so, then you might see if this may be able to help. It applies to Windows 8 as well.

User Profile Error - Logged on with a Temporary Profile

Hope this helps,

When I turned on my computer this evening I got quite a surprise. I entered my password and when the start screen came up it looked very much like a guest account; IE, file explorer, desktop, and Store. I normally have about two pages of tiles.

When I looked at the user accounts, the guest account is turned off. My administrator account is there and an account that I didn't realize existed; ASP.Net machine account. All of my saved settings are gone. It appears that my files are intact. What's going on?

Answer:[SOLVED] User account seems to have changed

The ASP.Net machine account can be deleted since it's associated with net framework 1.1, but if the Admin account is working OK and you have all your personal files, I'd try a System Restore to a date prior to the problem before doing anything. My best guess is it occurred when Windows Update ran last week.

After installing Itunes yesterday, my sister's Pc now has a different desktop and her files are not there in her documents. She has no restore points either. Any ideas?
(Her account name and password are still the same.)

Answer:Desktop and User account changed?!

Try logging in with the administrator account and goto documents and settings folder. Find the folder the labeled with your original "username documents" (username is your sign on name) and see if they are in there. If so it somehow created a new account. Let me know what you find out.

This morning I logged onto an XP user account I use every day to find it completely changed. The background was blank, half the desktop icons were gone, the display was changed, the Internet and E-mail tabs from the start menu were completely gone, and now anytime I click on a program I had previously installed, it says "Preparing to install program" and then has to install it again. All my subfolders (pictures, videos, etc.) are completely gone with no trace of any documents or media. It's like everything vanished. Outlook Express, which I used every day, is completely gone. It isn't on the desktop or the start menu. What is weird is that all the other XP accounts are fine. When I tried to do a system restore, the computer restarted and then said "restore not possible."What the heck happened to everything and is there any way to get it all back?

Answer:Why has my entire XP user account changed?

Go to My Computer > C:\ > Documents & Settings. How many user profiles are there & what are there names? Open YOUR profile folder, then open the Desktop folder - are all your usual desktop icons still in that folder?

Hi

Is there some way of moving all messages from my hotmail account to another email address? So when I emails are sent to my hotmail address they are then sent to my other email address, (then deleted from hotmail).
Is there a program that can sit on the desktop that is always checking hotmail, and when a email is recieved it is then sent to another email address? (this address is not a hotmail address).

Any possibilities??

from my friend's shaw.ca email account, I am not sure if it goes through Outlook on her part or what. She says she sent it to me once, I have it a dozen times at least today.

it just contains a .wmv that I didn't even open because I was suspicious of the amount (at the time 5) of her emails. I replied "why so many?" and she was very confused.

I don't use Outlook or anything, I am very plain almost the stupidest computer illiterate around, and just have my gmail and hotmail account, it doesn't go through anything, I just logg in and away I go.

So... I did try to search this here on the boards but can't quite find what I am looking for, so if it is a duplicate, Im sorry. It's late and I am googly eyed lol
Any thoughts on what to do here? I suggested she contact her service provider for help since it is HER email being sent out multiple times.

Next I guess I run a scan (I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009- is that ok?)

Anyways thanks for any thoughts.

I ran Windows update this morning and it all worked fine. I then had a problem installing my new Norton 360. The technician at Symantec did it all for me but in the process my user account changed! It now looks as though I've just started a new computer and although it still has my name and I appear to be logged on correctly, my desktop is wiped and I have to search through the C:/Vista drive to find all my files. Can anybody help me to restore this? The Symantec chap assures me he didn't change anything so it must be a Windows problem. I didn't have any user accounts as I am the only one using this laptop (VAIO) (guest was disabled) so what on earth has happened? It's Vista Business and Service Pack 1. If I do a system restore it'll remove my Norton as that was the last thing installed and that would cause huge problems again that took 5 hours to fix today! I hope somebody can help me please.

Hi -

Norton 360 is probably one of the worst products ever produced. The same goes for Norton Internet Security and all of the other similar Internet Security packages. They interfere with Vista system services causing application crashes and BSODs. No surprise to me that Symantec/ Norton told you it was a Windows problem.

I suggest that you perform a Vista System Restore using a restore point prior to the failed 360 install and see if that helps.

Hi all,
I recently followed this great tutorial and changed my user account name. Mostly everything has been working great, but I'd found one exception.

It looks like my Add Remove Programs shortcut (when i search via windows key) still contains my old username in it's launch directory. As a result, I get the following error when I try to launch (note: black box is my old username)

I would like to know how I can change the shortcut dir to reflect my new user name! Anyone know?

Thanks in advance

To make it universal, you can use the variable below in the path of the shortcut's location instead.

Hi

I created a new windows user account. After logging into this account, I noticed that the display of the fonts where changed. I mean the icons text, the text that appears on the Internet explorer Address, the text on the blue windows header and general text etc...
It is turned to be blurred ot out of focus.
Now, also when I logged back to the previous user account, the problem occurs also here and I can't get rid of it.
I tried changing the screen resolution but I can't change it to 1024X1280 so I use 1024X768. I don't remember what I used before. when I change it to 1280X800 - that is the closest that I get to what I had before but not enough.
also on the right click on the Desktop -> properties ("Display properties") -> settings, I see 2 Dsiplays:
1. Plug and play Monitor on Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family
2. (Default Monitor) on Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family

I can't cause the 2nd display to work. When I choose it, press OK and enter back to this screen I see that the 1st Display is selected.

On the "Device Manager" -> Monitors , I see 3 "Plug and play monitor" devices. All are working properly.

I'll be happy if you could help me.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

I got a new HP Pavilion laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. When I booted it up for the first time, there was already an administrator account on it named after the company who sent me the laptop. I renamed the user account and the computer to my name. Unfortunately, this change was not taken over by my profile folder or the profile folder paths. For example, if I go to the C drive and to "Users", then there's the Public folder and underneath it is my profile folder (which has a lock icon) - stuck with the previous name. I can access it and see the picture, music, desktop etc. folders with my stuff in them. I wanted to save a Word Document, and the username in the path was the old one, so that's how I first noticed the issue.

I searched and asked around and found out that I'd have to create a new user account and delete the old one to fix this issue. I came across two sets of instructions. I found one set over here in this Microsoft document for Windows 7 - it is about replacing a corrupted user profile, and it says that one would need THREE user accounts to do it...Very confusing...obviously, my user profile is not corrupt, but it looks like I have to replace it:
Fix a corrupted user profile

The second set of instructions I came across simply said that I'd have to do the following:

1) rename my current account back to the old unwanted name
2) create a new administrator account with my name and log into it
3) copy documents, music, picture... Read more

2) create a new admini... Read more

Hi,
I am running Win7 Home Premium on a ZT desktop and recently changed the name of my user account so that I can sync files with my laptop also runnung Win 7 Home Premium. Problem: It seems that most of my files are still listed under the old "file path" instead of a file path utilizing the new name of the user account. This is an administrator account. For example: my custom dictionary has a file path of C:\Users\JPL\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\UProof\CUSTOM.DIC - when it should be C:\Users\PWM\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\UProof\CUSTOM.DIC - Should I just leave well enough alone since everything seems to be working okay or will this create problems in the future? Do I need to re-index all of my files? If so, what is the best way to do this?
Thanks for your input.

Hi all,

Thanks in anticipation for any replies that you all may provide.

I had someone else install windows on my laptop and they entered a windows username of 'sony' during windows registration.

I later went on to change the windows username to: 'Ishan'

However, when I went back to the 'Users' folder in C:\ , I noticed that the folder name was still called sony (which was the name entered during registering windows). I was wondering if there is a way to change it to my current windows user name.

Even when I install any new applications, the setup program asks me: "Install for all users or only for current user: sony (whereas the current user is actually Ishan Nagar).

Or is there any way I can register windows again without losting any data and settings I have on my computer?

Hope you all can help me with this issue.

Thanks and Regards,

Ishan.

Answer:Windows Account Name Changed, not Folder name in 'User'

Hello Ishan, and welcome to Seven Forums.

The only way to change the C:\Users\(user-name) folder is to create a new administrator account, copy the contents of the old account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folder, and delete the old account from within the new account after everthing checks out ok.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I have windows xp proffessional installed on my computer and have more than 1 user account set up, each with its own .NET Passport associated with the account. However, lately for some reason, I cannot access my hotmail email account on one paticular user account. I keep getting the 'Please retype Password' message over and over again. I have checked and double checked that I am using the correct password, and have even reset the password on several occasions, but to no avail. However I have found that it is possible to access my email account using another user account on my computer. Does anyone have any idea why it is possible to access Hotmail on one user account and not on another? PS. I have made sure that I have enabled cookies but it still doesnt work. Can you help?

When I was installing and setting up WCP, I could not get it to recognize my Windows Live ID hotmail address (I don't know why), so I set it up with a new hotmail address. I figured "no big deal... I'll just set up a new hotmail account later and change my Windows Live ID to match it". Hah. Big mistake. Now I cannot get hotmail to give me that account name... it's already taken (yeah, I know... by me!)

This is a mess. How do I change the hotmail address on my administrator account to my old, original hotmail address? How do I do it? (And no, I do not want to just create a new user account on my PC)

Hi, I have a vista 64 bit PC system, and a hotmail and a roadrunner email account. Only the hotmail account has been infected I believe as follows:
1. Spam of my entire contact lists and random accounts are being sent from my hotmail account. I get undelivered notifications even in non English languages.
2. Spam is added to each email I try to send out.
I may have other problems associated with the above two.

My norton internet security 2010 does not dectect anything, nor does malwarebytes software. Help would be appreciated. I have a lot of ties to the hotmail account and hate to close it unless its absolutely necessary. Thanks, WC

Hi,
I was trying to set up my Grandmother's email account on her new iPad to work alongside her iCloud account, as the latter she had no interest in using, as the former had been in use for many years. Unfortunately, my Nanny's list of accounts and passwords are horribly unclear, and any password I tried failed, so I got pegged by outlook as a dodgy person, who needed to prove who they were, on the reset my password button-further complicated by the alternate email and mobile number being wrong too-by providing such information as the last three people who were emailed, and what the subject line was. I failed this, and so by Nanny is now locked out of her email, regardless of device.
With no way of knowing what the password was, or who had been emailed recently-the account was mainly to receive emails-I don't know what to do from here to solve the issue. Any advice would be most welcome for next time I visit Nanny.
Thanks!!

Guys I have done this in the past but cannot recall how and don't want to botch.

I had hoped Windows 10 corrected the "rename user account" function but nope. I renamed a User Account due to conflict on the LAN [same name, same spelling] and sure enough, now I have two names for the account, one a slightly hidden original name, and permissions issues. To rid it, I will create an all new Administrator account, move everything over, and demolish the old.
How to do? the docs/files are easy... the settings for apps etc are not as I recall

thx

Answer:Move/copy-paste User Account data & docs to New User account same sys

Don't even try would be my recommendation.

Make a new Admin account and copy your documents. Set everything else up from scratch.

Most applications will store their stuff in %localappdata% but unless you have some specific app (Windows Live Mail or Outlook or something) tht you must move it would be much better not to try to move things.

If there is something specifically you want to move then ask about that - I've moved the 2 I mention above, for sure someone else has moved something else.

Generally it will be quicker (and cleaner) to start from scratch than trawl though everything hoping to make sure you moved the lot. You'll only end up missing some odd directory and it will not work.

I only have one account on my recently installed Windows 8 and accidentally managed to change the account type from Admin to Guest in User Accounts. Now, I am not able to run any programs that require administrator password. The popping up window says "to continue, type an administrator password, then click yes". However, it does not give me any option to enter the administrator password and the button "yes" is disabled (see attachment). Also, at the logon I don't have an option to choose any other account than the one that used to be admin, but is now guest. I feel like I entered a loop, because now I am not able to go back to User Accounts to change it back. Are there any options for me to change the account type back to Admin?

It had all worked fine before but I changed my hotmail password recently and was not able to start Windows 8 without entering the password any more, so I wanted to adapt the password in User Accounts. I did not find that option so left User Accounts (must have then accidentally changed the account type, still not sure how), but since then I am not able to enter it back (since I cannot run any programs as administrator).

Thanks for any help,
Piotr

Answer:User account type changed from Admin to Guest

Hello Piotr, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you like, you could try refreshing Windows 8 to see if it will set you up another administrator account. You may need to do so at boot. Be sure to back up anything that you do not want to lose first though.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I have no clue why. The task history says disabled (why?). Even when i create a new task in another admin account, it does not run in my user account.

Hello. I have a couple questions, or rather a couple problems, and I'm having trouble trying to solve the issues. One is related to the account or user on my PC and the other is related to my sound card no longer being picked up by Windows.

I'll start with the first problem.
1. I recently updated my Windows 10 installation to version 1709 (OS build 16299.125, as it says in Winver). It updated fine but I noticed that when I logged onto my PC's main user account everything was changed... All of the shortcuts on my desktop had been removed except for a few installed programs, the quick-start items that I had organized in the start menu were gone, even the desktop background and Firefox browser bookmarks were gone.

After doing some digging I noticed that these old settings/files are still on my computer but are in a different location. Originally, the file path of my computer was simply called "Owner", which is where all of the bookmarks, shortcuts and so on were ( Local Disk (C: ) > Users > Owner) but there's also a new one called "Owner.OWNER-PC" (Local Disk (C: ) > Users > Owner.OWNER-PC). I can browse through the Owner location, and if I click on the Desktop link, or Local Disc (C: ) > Users > Owner > Desktop, I can see that all of the old shorcuts and such are there, and I'm assuming settings as well (and maybe, hopefully, my internet bookmarks).

Though I don't know for certain if this is what caused it, but I'm thinking tha... Read more

several months ago i deleted an email unknowingly, I have all the responses that i sent as well as the person responding again to me, just not the original. Is there any chance that i can recover it, maybe with a program? i really need to find this. Any suggestions i would greatly appreciate!

Answer:i deleted an email from hotmail account months ago

Do you access your Hotmail on their website, by signing in each time, or do you have an email client to download the mail (Outlook Express, LiveMail etc?). If you use a client then there's a very slim possibility of recovery, but if you do it on the Hotmail website then you have lost it completely I'm afraid, especially after 'several months'."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." I would like help solving a mystery.
I set up a new Dell Optiplex 3020 which shipped with Windows 10 Pro.
I bypassed the option to set up the user with a Microsoft Account (The owner does not have a microsoft account and I did not create one at that time.) and set up a Local User Account, the owner's FirstName only, with no password for the owner of the computer.
I also set up a Technical User local administrator account with a password "just in case." (I am glad I did.)
I unchecked and turned off everything that had to do with the Cloud and sharing information with Microsoft.
I installed the software, antivirus etc. including Windows Live Mail with an account with the ISP which the owner needed on the computer. I registered the computer using the owner's first and last names as well a registering the antivirus software account. In this process I restarted the computer several times with no problems logging back in with the local user account.
The computer ran updates twice during the setup process.
The next day the login screen was showing the owner's full name with the non-microsoft account e-mail address requiring a password for login. Since the owner did not have a Microsoft account nor a Microsoft account password logging in was not possible.
I tried the e-mail password that was used in Windows Live Mail to log in and I tried no password at all. Neither one worked.
To solve the log-in problem I logged in to Windows with the Technical User local account and pass... Read more

So I originally started with a local account but then signed into the store with a MS account. I changed the setting where users are required to enter a password through netplwiz (like this) and making a password not required after waking from sleep. But after doing this and restarting/shutting down, I'm not automatically logged in like I should be, instead I'm presented with a login screen saying the password I entered was incorrect, even though I haven't even entered one yet, as well as two accounts showing up in the bottom left (like this).

It's acting like the local account is still there and is attempting to log me into it. I've looked in the Users folder, it's just the default, mine, and public. Under accounts in control panel it's only mine that shows up. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

Using win10 Pro, this was a clean install.
EDIT~ Just solved it :s

Hit the winkey and type "netplwiz" and hit enter.
If you have the box "Users must enter a username and password..." unchecked, check it and hit apply, otherwise don't do anything.
Now uncheck the same box and hit apply again, now in the new window that pops up, change the username to your microsoft email that you used to sign into the Windows Store. For the password put in your MS email password.
Once you've done that hit Okay and restart, it should automatically log you in like normal.

By default the box has the original local account name which is what screws things up.

What the...

Long story short; I install Windows clean, put my own name as admin; the only user.
I use, let's call it 'password_one' for clarity.

Fine. Then once I'm in Windows I login with my MS account (which is also my Gmail address) and give it 'password_two' as it is my MS account password.

Result: now my one and only user account is my MS account, my own name, but with my Gmail adress...and I have to login to Windows as well with my MS account password, 'password_two'.

So windows decided to change it for me? Just deleted the old password and switched to using my MS account one?

OK...so nevermind, everything works fine...except it doesn't!

I can't apparently install all programs because I HAVE NO RIGHTS to edit the system32 folder contents any longer. It just says 'you must login as administrator to do this' and when I click OK it just says 'access denied'.

But I'm still the ONLY user and the ONLY admin in Users - only not with the original password but which Windows changed there! There is NO way to login as anything else, and it won't accept my original 'password_two'

So...the plot deepends...I try to do ANYTHING in policy editor for instance I get this:

Namespace 'Microsoft.Policies.Sensors.WindowsLocationProvider' is already defined as the target namespace for another file in the store.
File
C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\Microsoft-Windows-Geolocation-WLP Adm.admx, line 5, colum 110.

WTF????

How do I regain control of my PC??? What is going on here???

I had several hotmail accounts that I could view in the Nokia 930 windows 10.
I have not installed any apps (however there wsa an app that I do not know what was doing there with the text showing @\user\microsoft\windowsapp\ etc. the text was longer an I was not able to remove the app)
However the problem of the emails did not arise after the above app was mysteriously installed but happened before.
It looked like that one specific account was inexplicably confused with another email account...e when I was tapping on one Icon app of hotmail account I would actually read the email of another account.
My main Email setup account within windows phone setup had disappeared and when trying to re added it was saying that it was already setup.
Therefore I could only but hard rest my phone. I have hard reset it four times now and every time I setup the account with my main Email account everything is fine but when I add another email account it all goes wrong with similar variations of the above issue and now I even have an error message saying the account the I added
Now I am getting has the settings out of date. I tap FIX button there is some activity but nothing happens.
How can I fix this!!!

I have a Vista 32 system that has some corruption. Several things like the NET v2.0 framework do not work correctly and it does not do a Windows update without an error. Basically, I know some corruption must exist in the registry.

I have a new drive that I restored a backup from way back when the system was working OK. Naturally there are programs and files that need to be updated. I will have to reinstall the programs that did not exist on the old backup, but I was hoping I could restore my user account profile "in bulk" without just moving individual files. Is there anything wrong with deleting the whole content of the restored user account profile and replacing it with my present profile?

Answer:replacing a restored user account from backup with present user account

You could use Windows Easy Transfer, I will be back with more information.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

You can also, just back up your files etc and then restore them to the new account.

You have to be careful with anything that you do, to be sure that the corruption is not transferred.

Hi,

I'm a still-learning, self-taught, fairly new, computer student. I have a problem with an email that I received in my inbox on my hotmail account from a ?friend? recently. The subject line reads...Fwd: Fwd: Angels....size 617K. When I clicked the open box, I got a firewall alert (Norton) that instance of confidential info "block bank account" had occurred. I then tried to delete the email and got the same alert and then again when I tried to move to another folder within hotmail. After reading the email listed above it in the inbox and deleting that one...this email opened...had an attachment titled "application thingsar.pps". I did not open the attachment but tried to delete on the page and once again got the same firewall confidential info alert. I just can't seem to make it go away!!! I thought about disabling my firewall until I delete it...but if it's blocking access to my personal conf. info....seemed like a bad idea.

I also had another strange incident involving the sender of this particular email and my hotmail inbox a short while back. I received an email in my inbox addressed to him...??????????? Always wondered how that happened!! Any input and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is an awesome site and forum!!!! Thanks!!!!!

I'm not happy with MS wanting another email/phone for email access; however, gave them another email account to keep mine.

However, now when I log into the email - I can only get my account info, not the email. I've logged out several times and back in.

I seen nothing to route me to my email when I'm in account info.

Please, how can I access my email?

Answer:[SOLVED] can't get hotmail email - only account info when logged in

are you logging with a hotmail/outlook/live account
OR
are you using another email address
MS allows any email to be used to register as a MSAccount (changes since windows 8) and so you could register with a gmail.com account
BUT
you wont get any email access as the email server is provided by gmail and not MS

My wife has 2 hotmail accounts (.co.uk and .com) . She can access them via a PC, her android phone and ipad, the ipad being her primamry source. However there have been 2 instances in the last week where emails have been received and show on the phone and the PC, but not the iPad. As you can imagine, this is more than frustrating. Any clues or solutions would be more than appreciated.
Thanks

Hey all,

I have spent the weekend trying to figure out how to change my account type back to administrator but with no luck.

I have been running this laptop as my main machine for a few months now with no problems, however, I realised I had a problem when I wanted to change some networking settings on Friday when the UAC said I needed admin privileges and wouldn't let me enter a password or click "Yes", hence not allowing me to go any further.

I went to control panel > User accounts and saw my account type has been changed to Guest.

Now I have thought long and hard and I have not changed or had any need to change my account type to guest, nor has anyone else had access to my laptop, so I can only assume this has been done in the last week or so during a Windows update.

I'll tell you what I did to try to resolve this below:

First of all I tried to enable the hidden administrator account while in my account by running command prompt as admin (and then entering net user Administrator /active:yes) but as I don't have admin privileges I couldn't even open the command prompt so I couldn't get any further.

After reading around the net and this forum I found this thread and gave it a try. After restarting the laptop and booting into safe mode I was expecting to see and Administrator account next to my account at the log in screen, however, there was only the administrator account to choose from, so I clicked it and it went through the first time initialisation of ... Go into All Settings and choose Accounts. Under the 'Your Account' menu you'll see an option on the right to 'Sign in with a local account instead' - choose this.

Can you get back old Hotmail account, after having renamed it to new Outlook account?
Well here is Microsoft's answer on Reddit!

If you renamed your account, and want to rename it back to the original name, you can do that.
IMPORTANT: This may not work if you are outside of the US and have a "@live.com" or "@Hotmail.com" address!
First, remove the alias that was created when you renamed your account (the alias will be for the original name).
Go to http://account.live.com, select "Notifications" then "manage your email preferences" and you'll find links to remove aliases.
Second, go back to the Rename page, Sign In and rename back to the original name.

Hope it helps someone!

One more great addition to Hotmail! This is a step beyond the already available Hotmail feature to add a plus sign (?+?) and a descriptive word to the first part of your email address.

Starting today, you can add up to five aliases per year to your Hotmail account, up to fifteen aliases in total, all designed to make it a lot easier to organize different types of email and personas in one Hotmail inbox without having to give out your primary email address if you don?t want to.

From Hotmail delivers aliases to help you manage and secure your email account

Answer:Hotmail delivers aliases to help you manage and secure your email account

aah just about to post this news and you did it already...
yeah indeed this cool feature proves itself usefull when a user/company wants to have different Email IDs for different services like Info, Contact or admin etc and dont want to handle multiple account. This feature provides you to get all the emails under the same hood (in primary ID).
you can create 15 alias (5 IDs per year) :O thats quite good ...

Hi, i have a windows 10 account problem thats stopping me signing into xbox live.

i changed my windows 10 sign in email address on the microsoft account page, i wanted all my accounts to use gmail.

1st, i added my gmail account. Then i made my gmail account my default account email address

That created issues on onedrive, and i didnt want that headache, so i changed my sign in email address back to outlook and removed my gmail account from the accounts page. Now, when i go to settings - accounts, it still displays my gmail address, which is - im sure - why i cant login to xbox live on my pc. The following pic should read (username)@outlook.com, not (username)@gmail.com
Any ideas?

EDIT

when i try and create a local account, i get this issue...

PROBLEMS: (Persistent problems after using the tools are listed at the bottom of this post)1. Everytime I log in to my email account, the settings are already changed. 2. Everytime I visit antivirus sites, computer hangs.3. Everytime I turn the computer on, it hangs and I have to reboot it each time. 4. Aside from the malware symptoms, the most disturbing part of the problem is, someone knows what I'm doing on my computer. And he boldly tells me HE KNOWS. I tried the following malware tools:1. MalwareBytes Antimalware -- no threats detected2. SuperAntispyware -- 56 infections -- already removed3. Spybot Search and Destroy -- 3 or 6 persistent tracking cookies -- removed4. Advanced SystemCare -- still using, reports a number of infections occasionally, removed each time but doesn't seem to solve the problem(s)5. Hi,
I'm running XP Home SP2.
I have always been using a user account with administrator rights.
Having heard that it is not safe, I thought I would change my account type to power user.
1. I ran "control userpasswords2" and, just in case, tried to change the account I was logged in with; which naturally did not work.
2. Then, in the same window, I defined a password for the main (default) Administrator account, which I had never used.
3. I rebooted in Safe Mode and logged in using the default Administrator account.
4. Went to Control Panel > User accounts, and the admin account I use everyday was not there. Only admin, and guest.
5. Then I rebooted in normal mode and logged in using my usual login... which is now a guest account! Meaning I don't have write access to the C:\ root, for instance... I can't even display the calendar as I don't have the rights to change the system date & time!
How can I sort this out? I've done my Google research but did not find any relevant solution. I'd be very grateful for any advice.
Thanks

Answer:Admin account changed to a guest account!

For those interested (?), the solution was given to me on another forum:
Safe Mode, log in as default admin, run the command prompt and enter the following command:
net localgroup administrators /add accountname

I have been able to change the password since then but I am unable to access my emails still. I am told to retrieve a code from an alternative email address I provided years ago to re enter my emails.
That email address is dead and I have no other way of reconnecting.

I am desperate to get back to my emails so hope someone can help.
I have spent the morning trying to get an answer without success!:(

I have a user with a machine that was setup with Win 8.1 Home. The machine has been upgraded to 8.1 Pro and joined to a domain (WinSrv 2003). I need to get the conten/configuration from their old local machine user profile to their new domain user profile. I tried to copy the contents of their ../users/<name>/.. folder from the local user profile to the new domain user profile (after they had logged in once, and then logged off). This did not work. When I did the copy, I grabbed all files, including hidden...was that my mistake, or is the issue broader?

In the end....they want their old stuff and configuration under their new credentials/profile.

Thanks!

-Nick

Answer:Merge Domain User Account with Local User Account

There are 4 conventional ways of accomplishing this task.

Option 1: Simply copy My Documents, Favorites, Desktop items from one to the other. You will have to setup program options again, may or may not be a big deal

Option 2: Use the Windows Easy Transfer option. Explained here. Vista & Win7 local to domain profile migration

Option 3: Use the Copy To Feature in User Profiles, explained here: Copy a user profile. The steps are outlined for different versions of Windows, but they work the same in Windows 8.

Option 4: Use the User State Migration Tool. User State Migration Tool 4.0 User's Guide. Here is a link to a video on using the USMT. User State Migration Tool in Windows 7 - Install | TechNet

hi

how can it be?

a standar user turns the pc on, goes to her account and turns the general volume down and then turns the pc off

i go later turn the pc on , go to my account and i have the volume down too

why???????????????????

Answer:1 user account urns down the volume and my user account gets affected

That is how Windows seems to work. I have three users on my system, and if I adjust the volume with one, the other two are affected. I did find this: How do I keep individual user volume settings on my computer?

Maybe it will help you. I will also ask others to take a look.

Hi,

We are creating a PDF file in login user's local application folder (C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\folder1) through a custom .Net application and displaying the created pdf file in application.

The above functionality is working for users who are part of domain and added to local vista machine as users (both for administrator and standard user accounts).
The same is not working for local users (both administrator and standard user accounts created in vista box).

File is getting created for any user under their local appdata folder and can able to open from that location, but not displaying from app in case of local system users (admin or standard type).

Can anyone help me what security settings differ between domain users vs local users in vista business 32 bit OS?

Thanks
Padmaja

Answer:domain account user vs local account user in vista

Policy that is actually causing the problem (or lack thereof) is corresponds to Internet Options control panel, Connections tab, Lan Settings button: Use Automatic Configuration settings.
Having this turned on causes IE to load a configuration file prepared by IT department which makes a whole lot of configuration changes to IE, including remapping the security zones. We can test this by unchecking this option (the default state).
Since the machine is in domain and since we are testing with domain users accounts, I have monitored domain controller pushing down a bunch of policy settings which relax the IE security settings, causing the reports to display.
First, domain settings will resync over time and this checkbox will keep getting turned back on automatically. So you can?t really turn this off, it won?t stay off. I would feel better just testing local accounts, but since the computer is also a member of the domain, machine-specific policies are applied by the domain as well.

I have a Dell XPS 9100 with Windows 7 Prof. I am using the user account made during the initial bootup of the new computer, to make the desired settings and adding software installations. However after I finish with the initial tweaking, I will reduce the account privileges from Administrator to Standard user level. However, before I change the account level, I will make another user account with administrator user level.

Is there a way to have the new user account have the same settings as the initial user account when it is Simimade, such as copying, etc? I am not looking forward to manually making all of the sames changes/settings that I have made in the initial bootup user account, to the new user account with administrator privileges.

I would very much appreciate any suggestions regarding the above. Thanks Sam

Answer:Creating a New User Account Similar to an Existing User Account

Hello Scams,

About as close as you can get to this would be to create a new administrator account with the name you like, then copy all of the contents of the old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders (including hidden AppData folder) into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folder. After everything checks out ok, you can delete the old user account while logged in the new user account.

It will copy most of your settings, like your Start Menu shortcuts, to the new account, but items stored in the registry, like your desktop background, would have to be reset again.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

I am usning Win XP and my girlfriend gets the email off our ISP server so it all ends up in outlook express in her user account. So I would like to be able to move MY emails so that they show up in outlook express in MY account when I log in.

Is there an easy way to do this? If not, what folder contains these emails so I can cut them out and paste them into the corrisponding folder in my account settings?

Answer:Move Email to Another User Account

Try creating a new folder and moving the emails that are your into it. Then go to files-export-messages, select the folder that your emails are in and follow the instructions. Then open your account and import the backup you just created.

I think it should be pretty close to that anyway. I use Outlook and it is a bit different but should be similar enough that it should work.

Hi,
Kinda perplexed here. I'm starting to set up 3 PCs with W10 Home x64 for use in our Rec Center. Naturally, I'm working with an admin account-which I was able to do during setup using an "Offline Account". I've been trying to set up a standard user account the same way but I only have the option to enter either an email address or phone number.

What I want to use is User1, User2, etc. for each PC because these machines will not be assigned to any one user. They're just being recycled from the Clerk/Treasurer's office as a bonus for the kids to use for homework, etc. I just cannot seem to find an option to do that.

I'm obviously missing something but what the heck is it?

Thanks!
JG

PS: Why am I using the Home edition instead of Pro? It's just an experiment, honestly. Given that these machines are only going to be used for productivity apps and web browsing, I didn't feel all the extra security features, etc., were necessary. And since these are Core2duo boxes with only 4GB of memory, I figured the Home edition might be a little zippier. Thanks
