Pinning an application to the taskbar - Win 8.1

Question: Pinning an application to the taskbar - Win 8.1

Man. I hate having to relearn how to do everything. I want to pin the snipping tool to my taskbar like I had on my old computer. It's throwing me that I have to go into the start checkerboard thing and go searching for the application every time. (Ugh, I don't even know the terminology anymore.) How do I do this? At the very least, I'd like it on my desktop - someplace where I can launch it quickly when I need it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Never mind, figured it out. When I launch the app I simply right click to pin it. That was an easy one!

I installed Word 2013 onto a new computer some time ago. Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. Pinning has never worked. I can drag, I can right click and select pin, I can do whatever I want, but nothing appears and it just stays blank. Neither do recently opened items show up on a right click of the icon. Pinning/recent items works on everything else (e.g. Adobe, Explorer), including Outlook. I tried reinstalling but it still wouldn't work. I couldn't find much to go on so I gave up and have done without pinning. Recently I turned on "store and display recently opened items in the start menu and the taskbar" and suddenly I was given another clue as to what the issue is - Excel still shows nothing BUT in Word's recent items I'm getting *Adobe* files (see screenshot, file names removed for privacy): http://i.imgur.com/3wOOU60.png) I can pin adobe files to word's icon. I googled again and I still don't see anything about this but I'm just wondering if anyone has come across this and can help. Thanks in advance!

Question: Pinning To Taskbar

Hi All

I am new to windows 8 but have been finding my way around, One problem I am finding is that some websites I visit to "Pin To Taskbar" seem to only show a blank icon! No name but text but when you change the text it doesn't change on the icon? strange one particular site is the Nationwide bank page cannot seem to get an icon with a name on it?

Anybody got any ideas as to why this happens on only a few sites?

cheers!

Answer:Pinning To Taskbar

Hello Gatewaya, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It depends on what favicon is used by the site for what icon the URL shortcut will have on the middle of it's page icon. I have a icon for Nationwide bank for me, so you might see if deleting your temporary internet files and history and reloading the site may help.

If you like, you could also pin the site in the jump list of the browser's icon on the taskbar.

Hi guys, I'm having a serious problem here. I wanted to add a folder to my windows explorer pinned folders so that I can right click on the windows explorer icon on the taskbar and have my popular folders right there. When I first setup windows 7, I did this by right clicking on the folders I wanted and clicking "Pin to Taskbar." Now, when I right click on folders, there is no such option. Even libraries only have the option to "Pin To Start Menu" which is strange because I had already pinned a library to the windows explorer icon on the task bar, which means that must have been an option before because I don't know how else I would do it. Can someone please explain to me how I can add more folders to the windows explorer icon? This is very frustrating

Answer:Pinning To Taskbar??

Drag folder to the explorer icon on taskbar and it will be pined there.

Question: Pinning to taskbar

Not a huge issue more of just something i was curious about, why cant the "computer" desktop icon be pinned to the taskbar? I know that it is possible to pin the windows explorer but i want it to have the computer icon or at least the c drive icon.

Answer:Pinning to taskbar

I haven't found the reason why it's not possible to pin the Computer icon to the superbar. Maybe it's because it belongs in the explorer - who knows. You can pin it, though, if you really want to. There are some guides already posted around here somewhere. You basically create a shortcut, then point that shortcut to where the My Computer icon points to, then pin it to the superbar.

I have just bought a new computer running W7 because my old computer running XP suffered from old age.

I know about the tutorial explaining what to do using the toolbar method, but I don't like the separator between the Recycle Bin and the rest of the icons. There is another recommended method of pinning the Recycle Bin by creating a shortcut and using shell:recyclebinfolder, but this stopped working. In fact, all my folder shortcuts I created and pinned to the taskbar by using explorer.exe in the target stopped working.

Is there any other working methods out there so that I can put the Recycle Bin icon anywhere I want on the taskbar without seeing the separator?

Thanks.

Enable the Quick Launch toolbar, and put all of your pinned items there, instead of pinning them to the taskbar.

Hi,

I'm currently having a problem where pinning any kind of shortcut to the taskbar via its context menu doesn't do anything. That is, a pin doesn't appear on the taskbar, and in the location '%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar' no shortcut file is created.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Professional from Windows 7 Professional. That may be the cause.
Another potential factor is that previously, I have followed this guide (using both methods described) in order to further customize my system. The reason I mention that is because in researching I read the answer posted here. Unfortunately, I have not been able to fix the problem by undoing the first method of that guide; also there is no way to undo the second method of that guide, and I have been unsuccessful in fixing the problem by following the solution that answer describes (I couldn't find the 'Inkfile' folder). By the way, is it wrong that the 'link' key I deleted in following the process to undo the first method hasn't reappeared after restarting?

I'm not sure what to try next.
I would really appreciate some help... sorry to be foolish enough to try and customize my system a bit, if that is what caused this issue.
For now, I guess I'll have to use shortcut toolbars on my taskbar. Or is there a registry location where I can at least go in and, say, add a key with a shortcut address and icon address to add a pin with those properties?

Thanks in advance,
Felewin

I installed Windows 7 recently and am finally making it look and behave the way I like except for one thing I would appreciate help with.

You see, I'm on dial-up... Don't laugh it's still the only thing available where I live.

When I had Windows Vista and before that I always had shortcut icon in my taskbar I could click on to connect or to check the state of my connection. Now I have to click on the Network Sharing Center in the right hand corner, and it takes me 3 more clicks before I'm finally connected. I have to go through the same routine to check if I'm still connected or what speed I connected at. Also, I don't always manage to connect on the first try so I have to go through that routine many times. I did manage to create a shortcut by opening Adapter Settings and creating one from there but the problem is Windows 7 wont let me pin that shortcut to the taskbar. I don't know what is worse... Having to go through the 3 or 4 cliks to connect, or having to stare at that huge dial-up shortcut all the time on my otherwise pristine desk top? Oh, and thanks for the little file that allowed me to remove the Libraries Icon from my desktop. Was really happy to find that little gem.

Any suggestion with my current problem would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Pinning a Dial-up Shortcut to taskbar

Something weird has happened to my taskbar. I have a few programs pinned there and everything was okay. Then today I unpinned Firefox from there because I wanted to change the icon I was using. After deciding I didn't like it I tried to go back to the one I was using but when I pinned it back to the task bar this problem occurred:

As you can see when I click on the silver Firefox icon, it opens up a new firefox icon (default icon) in a separate place, taking up unnecessary space. I can't figure out how to make it go back to the way it was where everything stayed within the silver icon.

Answer:Strange problem with pinning an icon to taskbar

It is indeed the browser being opened but the problem is it used to open up within the silver icon (the default firefox icon you see to the right has basically taken its place). It's a bit of an annoyance because it takes up the little space I have on my taskbar before things start getting combined and messy.

Sorry if what I'm explaining is confusing, it would probably be easier to show with a video or something.

Hello everyone,

First post here and thanks for allowing me to be a part of the community!

My first question is while attempting to pin a website to the task bar in Edge I followed the directions and selected the "3 dots menu" and then selected "open with IE" option as instructed.

When I click on the webpage icon in the task bar the site indeed comes up but it is in Internet Explorer rather than Edge. Is there any way I can pin the site to the task bar and have it launch in Edge rather than IE? I understand it opens in IE because I opened the website in Edge and then told it to open with IE.

When I tried pinning the tab to the task bar in Edge I got the universal red circle with the line through it so I couldn't pin it unless I opened it in IE.

Ive noticed when I pin a website to the Start Menu that it will open in Edge. Is it not possible to have this happen by using the task bar?

Thanks so much for your help.

Appreciate interacting with you folks very much.

best,

rick

Hi all,

Just installed W7 today and have been trialling it all day, i have an issue with it so far. Not sure if its just me or others are having similar problem.

Problem is when i have a couple of programs open, there all appear on the taskbar but windows is still on screen. The active screen is on top of the others and when i go to select a non-active app from the taskbar it doesn't bring it in front of the current active app. The app i selected just blinks orange expecting attention.

Eg. IE8, Windows Explorer & Media Player are all loaded and IE is the active app. when i select on windows explorer from taskbar it doesn't bring it in front of IE but instead the flashes orange. I have to minimise IE to view windows explorer.

I was looking at a PDF. I closed the PDF and pressed Windows+D (shortcut for 'Show Desktop'). The PDF closed, but then a bunch of other title bars with no title at the minimum size (something like 15x70px, see pictures) appeared. The Taskbar also showed buttons for each of the windows. Right-clicking on most of them did nothing.
I took a couple of screenshots, one when it happened and one after I closed several applications with the Task Manager (Adobe, Winamp, etc).

After that, I restarted, and everything was fine. Has this happened to anyone else, and is the cause for it known? Thanks

I like to have my frequently used programs available near the start button. I'm always dragging them over there after I open them. But I don't like losing the task bar real estate to pinned icons.

Thanks

Answer:how can I get taskbar to remember where an application was moved?

I made a folder and added all my most common shortcuts (anywhere). Then right click taskbar, new toolbar, select made folder, and you now have a "quicklaunch" type area you can drag and minimize both ways.

Hi,

I want to know the Windows Native API which provides the facility to remove my application from taskbar and add on system tray (as Icon). I am working with Unity. Unity doesn't provide any API inbuilt to do this. I want to make this with the help of Windows API.

Operating System: WINDOW XP

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Windows API to remove my application from taskbar

Checkout Taskkill:

It should do what you want.

I have an old application which I have running all the time, which I don't want to appear in the taskbar (left hand part to the right of the start button).

Is there any way using registry entries or mods to the shortcut to have it continue to run but not show in the taskbar?

Please not I am *not* talking about the stuff that's at the right hand end of the task bar (notifications and such).

I don't have source so can't change the application.

Cheers

You could try "TrayIt", which minimizes a running application to the system tray instead of the taskbar:

Hi all,I have an installation of Windows Vista Home premium 64bit SP1 on my home computer and I've recognized following problem: some applications after start remain minimized in the taskbar and can be closed only. The application window cannot be maximized and does not appear if I click on the taskbar application button. It is strange, because some applications (the majority) don't have this behaviour and work properly, but some of them behave like this and don't display its windows. If I run mouse cursor over the taskbar button, an icon with window preview appears (and in this view can be seen that the application works), but I don't have the possibility to show the application window.Have anyone recognized similar problem and does anyone know how to fix it ?Many thanks in advance for your replies.

Answer:Application stays minimized in the taskbar

I do not if it will work for you but when I get problems where all the windows are minimized and none maximize, I have clicked on the Desktop icon in the Quick Launch, and then I can click on the running applications in the task bar to maximize as they should. So if you have not done so, enable Quick Launch in the task bar and I prefer not to use the Taskbar Previews thing (its useless and totally pointless for me).Another trick when a window wont maximize is to right click it on the task bar and do Restore rather than Maximize (sometimes that works)

Hello, this is my first time using this forum so I apologize if I do something wrong.

So normally, whenever I hover my mouse over a program located on the taskbar, I get a preview screen showing what is currently being viewed on that program. I can still get that, however, it never shows itself above the active program (last program I've clicked).

This happens with each and every program I have opened and tried. I tested the method of having the active program sitting in a place where it would only slightly conceal the preview (not maximized). Then having inactive programs (I've clicked on something else besides them last) behind the active one and the preview. Then I can see that that the preview will cover all inactive programs but the active program will still cover the preview.

I hope I've detailed what's happening well enough. I don't remember when this first started happening but I do know that it is not supposed to function like this. The preview should always be visible and on top no matter if there are active programs or not.

I also tried to get a picture of it happening, but it's kinda hard to take a picture of something that requires the active program to not hide itself (like snipping tool does).

How can I place an application icon on the quickmenu part of the taskbar and get it to stay there?

With Windows XP, I used to just drag an icon there and it would stay. I haven't been able to do that with Win 7.

I'm not sure if Quickmenu is the right term. I mean a portion of the taskbar that holds icons so one can conveniently launch one's most often used applications from there when the desktop icons are hidden by already open windows.

Answer:How Get an Application Icon to Stay on the Taskbar (Quickmenu)

Hi,
by Quickmenu, you mean the icon(s) pinned on the right of the Start Menu Orb?
if yes, you could pin the icon(s) by accessing Start Menu -> choose the program (find it on "recently opened programs" list or on "All Programs") -> right click on it -> choose "Pin to Taskbar".

Hope this helps,
Cliff

When I don't use my taskbar (When I'm using a program or AFK), stuff appears in my taskbar. First it's usually a folder (like a folder would appear in Windows Explorer, sometimes a bunch open up (stacked). Then application icons open (not actual applications, but what I associate with blank applications. When I click on anything on the taskbar, they disappear. When I woke up this morning, there were so many my computer was getting slow, and I spent over $1,000 on this 11 months ago. They appear over time (i.e. one after another, not all at once), so they build up after a while. Occasionally one will stack as if a second instance of it is occurring. In the picture, the stack of application picture has them all flat. It does that to them after you hover over them (and switch between them) for a while.

Answer:Folder and application icons appear in taskbar, then disappear

Although this has been gone over in these forums a few times since Win 8 CP came out, I shall attempt to help you.

These "empty" icons are generated when your Windows theme changes wallpapers. Hopefully this "bug" will go away in the final release. In the meantime there are a couple of fixes:

1. Right click on an empty spot on your desktop and click on the Personalize selection. At the bottom of the screen you will see the selections for your current theme. Click Window Color. One of the color selections on the resulting dialog screen is a multi-color fan icon. Click on that and save changes. This causes the Window frame color to change with every background rotation. The system chooses the apparent prominant color in the picture to color the frames. Yes, it can get some rather sickly colors at times. You can fix this by setting the color rotation in Personalization. This will fix the empty icons on the taskbar 99 % of the time. You may get occasional ones pop up, especially when your system comes out of sleep mode.

Window Color and Appearance - Change in Windows 8

2. This method seems to fix the empty icon completely. In Personalization, pick the default Windows 8 theme that has the multi-colored fan on it. You will now need to add you own backgrounds to the theme.

Have fun!!!

hi there,

just got my new yoga 2 pro-- really happy with the laptop, and also pleasantly surprised with W8.1. Definitely has a MSFT level quality to it (ie functional, but no strong eye to usability)

Anyways, while I have been pretty happy with the Metro interface (yes!) I have been trying to get my desktop experience a little more in line with how I would use my laptop/tablet. For example, i have made all the icons large and single click to open (so i can easily just tap the icon on desktop to open).

One thing I have been getting consistently annoyed with is the taskbar which is horribly small (for touch launch) and outdated looking.

Question: i am wondering if anyone is aware of an alternative to the actual taskbar to launch programs which look metro-style? I think the closest i have found is rocketdock, which is adequate. but i was hoping that there was a launcher specifically made with touch launch in mind for the desktop.

Also, i know this is probably going to be moot in about 9 months, when W9 launches with a touch-optimized desktop, but thats still 9 mo away...

thanks for your help!

Answer:Metro-Style Application Launcher (alt to taskbar)

The only thing I found that looks even close is this:

Hi, recently I installed latest Windows 8.1 update (Update 1/Spring update), and later latest Beta Nvidia driver. After that, an strange problem showed up, which is annoying and hard to explain (especially with my poor English ). I recorded a video which represents it (look at the thumbnail 'hiding' under the previewed application )

I'm using UxStyle and this theme: Windows 8.1 White Titlebar Dark theme by x0lis on deviantART
I tried:
Uninstalling UxStyle and themeInstalling 'normal' Nvidia driverDoing sfc /scannow but it didn't find anything particular (something about prncacla.inf, but I don't think that this causes this problem)Scanning system with antivirus (KIS 2014)Turning off and on option 'Enable preview' in Advanced setting -> PerformanceChanging theme to otherSearching about this in Google and this forum, but I didn't find anything similar
but nothing worked.
Well I didn't tried uninstalling Update 1, but I would like to avoid that. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?

Aero Peek is what you are talking about. Your problem is with the third party software for the theme.

Hi,

I am testing a CRM package we use called Achiever on a Vista PC and am running into a strange problem. If I minimize the program window it goes into the taskbar, but clicking on this minimized taskbar item does not maximize the program. If I right-click it, the only options that are not greyed out are 'Restore', 'Maximize' and 'Close', but clicking on any of these does nothing (except produce a PING noise!). This does not happen with other programs.

I've scoured the net for suggestions on how to deal with it. Tried all the keyboard shortcuts for restoring or moving windows (it is definitely not hiding off-screen). Using the quick launch 'switch between windows' or 'alt+tab' then selecting the program gives me the same PING.

Problem I have is that the company who make the software don't support it on Vista and we aren't in a position to upgrade to their newer offering at the moment. As far as I can see, everything else works as it should, so this silly glitch is doubly annoying.

So, anything else I could try for this wierd Vista problem?

thanks

Hi there.

I have a taskbar problem, where it wouldn't show any of my application windows opened/running. For example, if I were to open a word document, my task bar remains blank, and I would not have a clue if it were actually opened unless it's the window at the 'top' (i.e. I can only access it using alt+tab). It would show the quick launch toolbar, the language bar etc, but just simply none of the applications I open. I suspect it has something to do with the toolbars not terminating... you know how you can have a choice on how many icons of a toolbar you want to see just by resizing it? Well the resizing function is not available.

I was wondering if anyone had encountered a similar situation and know how to troubleshoot it.

Thanks.

any ideas how to remedy? is there a 'state snapshot' in a cache somewhere that needs whacking?

Hello Mialbedwy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could use the same method of pinning the Recycle Bin to the taskbar in a folder as a toolbar, but use the application you want instead of the Recycle Bin. This will give it a wider space.

Here's what I used to do. If i needed to open a new file in Photoshop, I would minimize it to the taskbar. Then I would then open a folder with my images/files in it (or from the desktop) I would left click any image/file and drag it to the minimized photoshop button on the taskbar. By hovering the image/file over the photoshop button on the taskbar for a second or two, photoshop would restore/maximize and I could drop the image directly onto the photoshop page.

Actually, any open program that was minimized to the taskbar could easily be restored by hovering a file over it.

This works on all my other computers, and used to work on this one, but has magically stopped.

It is a very handy technique to use, and since i have been using it for years, it is very annoying to have lost the ability.

Thanks in advance,

My C#.net application has a full screen WindowsForm running on the main UI thread and a non full screen WPF window running on a seperate UI thread. the non-Fullscreen WPF window is owned by the fullscreen windowsForm and thus always stays on top. they have to be maintained as seperate UI threads due to performance reasons.

the problem i face is that when i click on the WPF window the taskbars highlights and appears on top of my fullscreen Form. clicking on the form will again hide the taskbar. This behavior is observed on Win 7 only. On win XP, the taskbar doesnot appear even when we click on the wpf window.

Is there any way to prevent the taskbar from highlighing/appearing when the non-fullscreen wpf window recieves the focus(on Win7)? i have attached a sample application which explains this situation. Please help

A few weeks ago I did something rather stupid and downloaded a file that contained a bunch of malware. I was able to get rid of it, I thought---at least a bunch of malware detectors weren't turning anything up. But I realize I'm still having problems. There's one that's only a minor annoyance---sometimes windows won't minimize the way they're supposed to (like, I'll be playing something in Media Player Classic in windowed mode, but when I click away on my browser, the MPC window does't minimize.

But now I am trying to play a game and finding a real annoyance. The screen, I don't know how to say it, "flickers" off for just a second without the game being interupted every time I click, and furthermore the taskbar icon seems to disappear only to be instantly replaced with another sliding icon. I tried a clean boot, but that didn't seem to work.

Answer:Taskbar Icon Constantly Reloading/Window Flickering with Application

If you did a Clean Boot and this didn't resolve this issue this means that the problem isn't related to a Service.

You need to make sure that this computer is not still infected.  I will request that this topic be moved to the Am I Infected forum where the proper tools can be used to make sure it is cleaned.

Here's an odd solution:

1. Create an empty batch file (.bat) file e.g. in documents which will be registered as a program.
2. create a shortcut to this bat file, remember this shortcut file cannot be deleted, as the start menu will point to this shortcut.

OK, wjt, you have a couple of different questions here.

First, on pinning. Check out http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...ram-links.html

Second, install problems. Try re-burning the DVD at the slowest speed. If you downloaded the student version (non-".iso") check here on how to make a bootable version. Make bootable iso from student d/l

Question: Pinning Issues

Hi guys,

I did a quick search and looked at the tutorial but I couldn't find my problem anyway, I hope it hasn't been covered already.

Anyway, I just updated my iTunes and for some reason (as always) the shortcut resets itself and my current pinned shortcut is useless. So I deleted it and pinned the new iTunes shortcut back to the taskbar but now when I open iTunes I get two icons on my taskbar: one to start iTunes and one for the iTunes program that is running. Before I replaced the shortcut, and for my other shortcuts, I always only had one icon for both. Here's a screenshot that better illustrates the problem:

Answer:Pinning Issues

Hello Smeg, and welcome to Seven Forums.

See if this may help. Unpin both iTunes icons on the taskbar. Now open iTunes, and right click on the icon on the taskbar for it and click on "Pin this program to taskbar" instead of from the shortcut.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Question: Pinning in Excel

Hi,
If I pin a file for easy return access in Excel it doesn't hold.
I have Excel Options > Advanced > Number of Recent Documents set to 17.
It drops off at varying numbers sometimes as few as one. Also, the pinned symbol does not stay "in" and green. It will change by it's self to horizontal and gray
This is a nice feature. How do I get it to last from session to session?
Thanks

Answer:Not pinning to start

Hi, create and test a shortcut as per the first picture
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4...dows-10-a.html
It should have the appropriate icon.

Test it (double click).

Rt click it and you can pin to start as a tile.

(Other ways to open the CP: Windows key + X, click Control Panel works, Windows key + R, control panel, Type 'contr' in the Cortana search field
for example).

I prefer this using Classic Shell (free):

Using Windows XP, one can move anything on the desktop to the task bar. Why did the brilliant people at Microsoft change this? Using XP, I can pin a new folder to the task bar and then fill it with programs, files, etc. It didn't care. For example, using XP, I have a taskbar icon named MEDIA. When I click on it, a window opens with several icons inside, like Windows Movie Maker, Are Explosion Calendar Maker, Quick Time Player, VLC Media Player and so on.

This can't be easily done using Windows 7. Is there a way I can do this? I really don't need a whole bunch of icons on my taskbar.

Any answers beyond the dumb stuff that comes back on Google Search?

There's something that I don't get about this process. If I click on the Window's orb, then All Programs, then Windows Update, pin to taskbar or pin to start is not an option on the right click whereas they are options on certain other programs. Two questions:

1. Why do some have the option and others not?

2. How do I get Window's Update to stick on Start?

Thanks,

Mark

1. System design

2. Create a shortcut (in a permanent stealthy location), pin the shortcut.

I'm not presently a user of IE 9, but---

here's are two links which you beta users will find useful.

Answer:Pinning IE 9 Shortcuts

Karl, I am not using it either. In my opinion the nominal improvements that will probably be offered by IE9 are not worth the bother, to be the first to try a browser that will have problems until fully tested.

Question: Movie pinning?

Hi all.

I have on the taskbar of my screen a folder that takes me to things I have recently done or used and I also have pinned things in the folder so that when I right click it it gives me the option of going straight to stuff like 'Music' , 'Vuze Downloads' and 'Downloads.

It's a great shortcut for me to reach all the things that I want without having to go searching through menu's all the time.

The problem is is that I have recently unpinned my 'Movies' folder and I do not know how to pin it back.

Can anyone help me out on this, I'd be grateful.

Cheers, all the best, Ste.

Can you post a screenshot of your taskbar please.

If this is a toolbar then you need to find the "Movies" folder and put it in the toolbar folder.

I want to keep the pinning option for program shortcuts.

However, I want to be able to minimize a program and keep it on the taskbar the way it would show on XP, instead of putting it behind the pinned icon. How do I do this?

After a great deal of fiddling I have succeeded in getting Outlook to reflect my old Vista Mail, meaning I can now see my mail. trouble is that I have to connect to the internet then select Outlook from my Google taskbar and finally select my old Mail account. Is it possible to create a charm so that all I have to do is click on it in Start?

Answer:Pinning Outlook to Start

Hello Kafka,

If this is a website for online email, than you could use the tutorial below to pin the website to your Start screen if you like.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/10195-internet-explorer-10-pin-unpin-sites-start-windows-8-a.html
If not, then you could pin the .exe file or shortcut of Outlook to your Start screen as well.

Hope this helps,

In vista on the left pane in explorer it was split between the regular file navigation and a favorites area at the top. The favorites was always available and allows for you to click on your most used folders faster. In Vista the favorites isn't pinned up there anymore. Any one know of a way around this? I could create a bunch of "send too's" to replace being able to just drag stuff into my favorites but that is more work.

Answer:Explorer Favorites Pinning

here's mine - i haven't changed any of the defaults, and as you can see, the faves are there...

you do have the navigation pane enabled under Organize -> Layout?

Is there anyway to save those pinned tabs to stay there after I restart PC/reopen chrome and all that ~ not actually load them because I could just set them as the homepage but keep them there so when I click it it'll load the tab, I only have a fairly small laptop screen and this will save a bit of room.

Answer:Google chrome ~ pinning tab(s).

I didn't know you can pin tabs! lol
How do you do that?

In Build 7000 I could pin Windows Update to the start menu, but in 7100 I can't. Anyone able to? When I right click on Windows Update in the programs menu it no longer shows that option.

Answer:Pinning to the Start Menu

Yes you can still do it but you need to hold shift when you right click to get the option.

Okay. I had IE9 beta since release. So far VERY Impressed buy it. Only for the past few days i have been getting this problem.. Basically the Facebook logo does not appear correctly when i pin Facebook to my "Superbar". This is just for Facebook and does not apply for other pinable websites as shown in the picture, Twitter is working as it should.

Jumplist shortcuts are still working fine, the specific icons for each of the jumplist shortcuts are working correctly. I have tried doing a number of things;

-Waiting for it to blow over (recently twitter changed their icon and that took about a day for it to start appearing properly)

-Re/Uninstalling IE9

-Deleting ALL Browser information/History

Has anyone got any idea how to fix this? i have done some light searching around on the Internet for this but did not find anything. Thank you

I have used pinning for a long time. With Windows 10, it appears that there is something broken with my installation, or Windows 10 in general.
I pin several network folders to windows explorer taskbar.  In Windows 8, they used to be able to be moved up and down.
I cannot get this to function correctly in Windows 10.  I have 6 folder pins on the taskbar for explorer, and I can't reorder them without unpinning all of them, and repinning them in the order I want.  Then if I want to reorder them again, because
of adding another folder, I'd have to unpin and repin again.
Is there a setting that I have that is locking this functionality?  Can't imagine that MS would make this feature go away.
Doesn't work for Word either.  The pinned items at top won't move, neither will the frequent items below.
Thanks.

Hello all

New to Windows 7 and am learning but one thing I really hate is this pinned option thing.

Is there anyway to remove that as a option from right clicking of the taskbar icon menu?

Thanks

Answer:Can I get ride of Pinning option?

Yes, don't pin it there.

By pinning, however, you get a full history of the Word, IE, etc. program's use by rightclicking.

I find it the place to pin freq used programs, leaving active files to the desktop.
