Age Of Empires Conquerors fails to load

Question: Age Of Empires Conquerors fails to load

Alright I have read so many threads and posts trying to figure this one out.
I have AoK and it runs fine.
I have AoC and I can rarely get it to load. The only time it loads is if sometimes I load AoK first then immediately load AoC.
I have played around with every possibility on the compatibility mode and resolution and I still get the same result. AoK does not need to use the compatibility mode at all.

When I go to load AoC I receive,
"Age of Empires II Expansion has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

It does not notify me. It works on my laptop which has windows 8.1
I have reinstalled both AoK and AoC many times clean.
I have tried both minimal and maximum on installing the game.

Please Help!

Thank you,

BJ

Preferred Solution: Age Of Empires Conquerors fails to load

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 on both my computers, re-installed one of my favorite game to both and now they are unable to play in multiplayer, does not work in TCP/Internet or Lan/TCP modes, just searches with no game found. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance

I've played AOE2TC plenty without problems on this computer. I dont believe I messed with anything. After I brought my PC to college, it suddenly had problems with ONLY this game. Other RTS games are fine. After I get through all the menus, without problems, I start the actual game. When the game starts, It scrolls across the map up and to the left. I cannot scroll any other direction. I've ruled out the mouse and keyboard as problems because my cursor is usable and unplugged the keyboard. Problem remains. This doesn't happen in AOE3. Any suggestions? I can't find any similar problems through google.

Hi, I have been trying to do a multiplayer on Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors via LAN, but it has been giving me trouble. I have two computers, one upstairs and one downstairs, connected via a Linksys wireless router (please refer to my specifications page for more info about the router). Both computers are running Windows XP, and I am using two copies of the game, both of which are legal, and are the same exact version. Whenever I try to host a game with one computer, the other computer simply CANNOT detect the game. This happens no matter which computer is hosting. I have tried many different solutions that I've found via googling my problem, including selecting IPX in the game's multiplayer menu as opposed to my normal selection of TCP/IP or Local (LAN) TCP/IP. That didn't work. I also made sure I had completely deactivated all of my antivirus and firewall programs, but that didn't work either. (They are all back on now, though, but I can turn them off if I decide to try that solution again). Also, I have Age of Mythology: The Titans expansion, and I tried doing a multiplayer on that right after trying multiplayer on Age of Empires The Conquerors, (using the LAN setting) and it worked perfectly fine. The computers are both on the same wireless router. I am REALLY hoping someone can help me solve this problem!!! I don't really want to use any of the various online AOE multiplayer game hosting sites I have heard about, I just want to do a simple LAN... Read more

I can get this using some saved credits ($5 worth) and I know nothing about games, nor do I want to use it myself. Would I be totally laughed out of the country if I were to give this as a x-mas gift?

Answer:Solved: Age of Empires II: Conquerors

You might be, because that's only the expansion pack to Age of Empires II. You need the full version of Age of Empires II in order to install that expansion pack. If you're able to get the regular Age of Empires II, then that would be worth it, because it's still a fun game.

Ok I used to play aoe 2 expansion a lot on LAN. me and my buddies decided to whip the game out and have another lan session with it. So with 8 guys there, it only worked for 5. I realized that the 3 it didnt work for, including me, were using xp pro. The game opened and we could play, but if we clicked on any of the menus in game then the game would crash. So i set out to find the problem. I knew it had to be from the windows update. I finally found that it was .NET Framework 2.0 that makes it crash. It could possibly even be the 3.0 and 3.5 i still have to test that. But my problem is that my catalyst control center needs .NET Framework 2.0 in order to run. I really want this game back and running so i have come to you guys for some help .

Answer:Age of Empires II The Conquerors problem

ok i was wrong about the .net framework 2.0. When i installed my updated video driver in automatically installed .net framework 2.0 and i came to the conclusion that it was that. but i have now discovered that it is not the .net framework. I beleive it is the video driver. Is there a way that i can use my video driver but turn it off and use the basic one when i play aoe?

Select a villager, select dock, and put it on coastline. you may have to play a bit to get the right position. Check you have line of sight to the build position, and that you have enough resources. Apart from that, cant think of any reason

Well, I've been trying to host a TCP/IP game for AOE2: Conquerors, I have my computer behind a Linksys WRT54GL router, with my computer in the DMZ. When I have someone try to join my game, they can see the name they have to click on to join, but when they try it say's something like "Cannot Connect". When I'm in the multiplayer setup menu, I click the IP button (the one that tells you the external IP) but it keeps bringing up my internal IP (192.168.1.150).

I'm pretty sure they should be able to connect, and I'm also pretty sure that the IP button shouldn't show my Internal IP if I'm in a DMZ with all of my firewalls off. What could be going on?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

We have 2 XP and 2 Vista computers. XP computers can host and join games with each other just fine. Vista computers can SEE games hosted on XP computers but can't join. XP computers cannot see games hosted by Vista computers. Vista computers cannot see games hosted by each other.

I'm pretty sure it's not a firewall issues cause we unblocked the program from the firewalls. We also tried it with firewall disabled.

We are able to share files between the computers, and we are able to play other games such as CS:S, Age 3, Warcraft 3, Medieval 2, etc. on the network. (Age 2 is an older game.)

I am pretty sure we have been able to play Age 2 with a mix of XP and Vista computers at some point in the past. We all seemed to think we had done it previously. We searched the Internet and forum posts said it may be an issue with IPv6, so we installed that on an XP machine via command prompt and nothing changed. Someone said XP might need LLTD Responder. We downloaded and installed that on the XP machine, no result. We installed XP SP3 on the XP machine, no result.

There is obviously either something we have not considered or it is not possible to make the game work at all. But hopefully we just don't have a clue, cause I want there to be a clue. Know what I mean? Anyway... if you think you can help, please try. Thanks a bunch, I will check back tomorrow sometime.

I have the Age of Emipres II The Conquerors...Microsoft game...have had it through Windows 95, 2000 and XP...but in XP I was not able to run it often because it would shut itself down after getting the first screen up...before you can in put any choices for gaming.  I thought maybe it was my computer (it had some other issues) so bought another computer with Windows 7 and tried to install...it did... but I will not run...gets to the same screen and ...just shuts down....
I want to play it...even with purple water....  What can I do to get it to run?  ( I have Age of Empires II and Age of Empires II The Conquerors.)

Answer:Age of Empires II The Conquerors unable to run on windows 7

bfremd -
Well.... That game IS fairly old. Microsoft's website says it needs Windows 95, 98 or NT 4 with SP 5 installed for this to work.
Have you tried compatability mode to see if it will run?
EDIT: I downloaded the trial/demo version of AOE II from the MS site - and installed it. After rebooting, it worked fine. Got through the first demo campaign - teaching the men to march and fight. Granted, it's not the same as the full version - but you might want to make sure you've got ALL of the relevant patches installed on top of the base game.

This is not a question about the color issue that some people experience.
I have a Windows 7 Lenovo Thinkpad. I installed the program. It installs fine. But when I try to play, the CD drive spins and spins, but nothing happens.

The game won't even open.
When I look at the program, it says Publisher: Unknown. (Shouldn't it say Microsoft?)
When I try to run the Program Compatibility troubleshooter, it doesn't help, because I can't open the program to try to troubleshoot.

My spouse also has a Windows 7 Thinkpad, and has the exact same issues.

Hi. I'm running Windows ME and I've updated all drivers and have DivX 5.05 and DirectX9. I still can't seem to run Age of Empires 2 or Age of Mythology. I used to be able to months ago but all of a sudden they dont work.

When I try to run AOE2, a black screen appears as if its loading, and then it just quits. Nothing else happens.

When I try to run AOM, an error message pops up saying "Error: Cannot open Main Window."

Anyone have a clue what's going on?

Here is the list of the problems in order of which I noticed things going awry:

1. My Firefox browser will re-direct my google searches to a new Firefox window pop-up with "google-analytics" in its address bar, but would never finish loading the new popped-up window. Firefox would also re-direct and never finish loading my google searches by opening a new tab with a "directdlr.com/....." in its address bar.

2. Microsoft Office 2010 applications don't open, instead a "DW20.exe" and a "DWWin.exe" replicates itself an infinite number of times in my processes, maxing out my CPU.

3. My anti-virus applications (Spyware Doctor, Microsoft Security Essentials, avast!, malwarebytes) won't update, and therefore won't run or scan. Firefox also won't load various anti-virus sites, such as this message board.

4. Other applications crash directly upon opening them (VLC Media Player)

Solutions that I've tried:

1. Resetting my router. I'd read somewhere online that doing this would solve the problem. It did not.

2. Trying to restore from a restore point. I opened System Restore, but the restore points were all very recent and within the timeframe of infection.

3. Un-installing Microsoft Office 2010 and re-installing. System won't let me un-install.

Not long ago (a week and a half or so) I was playing Payday 2 and my computer froze, I turned off my computer to restart it and could not load my computer past a pre-loading windows black screen where the mouse was not showing. I then tried booting my computer in various ways (safe, with and without networking etc) and they worked, however I believe one of my drivers failing to load was the reason for my "Windows Normal" startup to fail. I eventually decided through, I then looked at using the system restore point function in order to hope for some success. The system restore function when I restored to; a week ago, two weeks ago, did not seem too alleviate my issue much, it did however allow me to load windows but almost immediately after using the machine for 2-5 minutes I would have a frozen screen again. I then eventually decided to just factory reset the machine out of desperation, the factory reset eventually happened successfully and I was able to load windows and login into my new user successfully, as I learnt that I had to reinstall my graphical drivers I then attempted to put in various CD's in in order to install these drivers, eventually when I figured out the order of CD's that I needed to install for my games to load properly, I then resumed my activities on my pc (such as gaming, browsing etc).

Flash forward to the second factory reset, this one happened due to a very similar freezing problem yet again, and again I decided to turn off my computer ... Read more

I am using Intel i3-530 on Intel DH55TC Motherboard. The motherboard supports RAM with highest frequency of 1333MHz. However, I was told that using a higher speed RAM wouldn't hurt the system. So, today I bought a Corsair Vengeance 4GB 1600MHz RAM. The RAM is detected in BIOS, but OSes fail to boot after that. Even Ubuntu throws Kernel panic error while booting. Could anyone help me with the BIOS settings required to run this memory stick?

Answer:OS fails to load when using new RAM

Hello Mycroft mate as a general rule running a higher frequency RAM stick in a machine that runs that only supports the lower one the frequency will revert to the frequency of the new stick will be maxed to what frequency your machine will support. So I think whoever told you could run a higher frequency RAM stick in the machine should have known better and to get you to check out the supported RAM speed before you went out and got the new RAM.
If possible I would get the supplier to change it for 1333 (there really isn't much to be gained from 1600) and the extra RAM will still make a difference to your machine simply because the system has more to use and therefore less bottle knecking - in other words the CPU can load more faster if it has more empty RAM available.

ie Tip a bucket of water through a 1 inch outlet funnel into another bucket and it fills quite nicely in say 5 minutes - now take a funnel with a 10 inch outlet and the second bucket fills in no time at all - the first bucket is the CPU and the second bucket the RAM the difference being there is more channels for the data to flow through even though it might be the slower speed RAM

You can see from this Intel? Desktop Board DH55TC the board only supports 1333 max - you can install a faster RAM stick but why bother?

So for example the 1600 you have put in should only run at 1333 if the machine specs say max 1333. The other problem could be that the new RAM stick is bad.

To see about RAM this might gi... Read more

hey need some help for playing on the zone. Each time my buddy and I play we we have a strategy that has always worked for us but then people are the britons and take us down like he will be the teutons and i might be the byzantines any ideas on how to take out there archers, keeping in mind we don't play with siege cause people use it in an excessive force. Also would like to know what civs can take on the huns and goths and if the franks are a good civ for taking on all of the above?

Answer:Age Of Kings And Conquerors Help

well i remember that goths huskarl are like the best against archers. dont be brits if youre facing goths. however, if the people you play are brits, be goths for sure. they are so good against archers(the huskarls are, make sure to get all their upgrades).

teutonic knights get owned hardcore by archers because theyre soooo slow.

youre gonna wanna counter attack Huskarls with more swordsmen, use champs because their cheap and maybe even a little more powerful, but fewer hp.

just use skirmishers against the huns.

I just came home for christmas and my parents showed me that their computer is failing to boot.

It posts normally, runs the windows splash screen, and then comes up to a black screen with a mouse cursor and hourglass, then 30 seconds later to just a mouse cursor - it can sit for an hour and never loads anything else. In safe mode, any type, it does the same thing but with the version number across the top and 'safe mode' in each corner.

In any mode there is no taskbar and no response from the start button, right clicking or ctrl+alt+del

I have tried, after making a backup of course, replacing explorer.exe and taskman.exe as well as the entire system and system32 folders(except config in system32 which is protected). I have loaded the hard drive in my own computer and it does the same thing. I ran scandisk on it while it was in my windows pc and it didn't tell me anything. The drive is divided into 3 partitions and I only scanned the C drive.

This is my parents computer and I do not have a hardware listing, it is relatively new but not high end, I can look for model numbers on anything that is relevant.

I have slaved the drive into another computer and backed up any data, I am just trying to avoid a full reformat and having to reinstall all the software.

any thoughts?

For the last 2 days I cannot get my Youtube channel to load properly. It seems to stick on something called "s.ytimg.com". Is anyone else having this trouble at the moment?

As 67 people have looked at this but not one has replied, even to tell me that I'm an idiot, I feel rather ignored on what is my first outing on this forum. Perhaps my question is too banal.

Anyway, in the hope of receiving some sort of response here's a more detailed description of the problem:

I use Firefox with Noscript and Ad Block Plus.

I have a 3 mobile broadband connection (which has worked well enough since I got it) and before Friday I had no problems with Youtube.

When I try to load my channel on Youtube everything zips along nicely until it comes to "transferring data from s.ytimg.com". Then it just hangs. And Hangs. I have left it for 40 minutes or so and nothing has moved.

If I selectively disable "ytimg.com" in Noscript everything loads but there is no video to play.

Evidently s.ytimg.com is a perennial nuisance because it is mentioned in many other forums. Solutions suggested include putting extra lines in the hosts file (tried it. No good). Removing lines from the host file (couldn't because the line was not there) and changing DNS server.

Does anyone here have any new wheeze to suggest?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I am new here.

In fact, perhaps there should be a section just for s.ytimg.com and its attendant miseries.... Read more

WIN 7 X 64 fails when trying to load MS updates. I see lots of users have the same problem and have tried many of the suggestions that I found on the forum. I have Malwarebytes and MS essentials installed.

Security updates for MS.NET are successful as are Definitions for MSE, the Bing Bar updates and even updates for Office 2010 (even though it is not loaded on my computer) but none of the Security Updates for Win7 x64 based systems will load. Every bootup for weeks it says ? you have 37-40 updates? If I tell it not to update, sometimes, somehow, it does it any way and in the middle of my word processing a box pops up that is counting down to a reboot. If I don?t walk away it just shuts down in the middle of my typing.

If I ignore the ?updates available? it changes my log off box from ?shut down? to ?load updates and shut down?. If I don?t pay close attention and change the default back to ?shut down? each time I get stuck loading all the same updates that didn?t load the day before. Dirty pool.

Of course if I tell it to load updates it will finish and then wants to shut down. During shut down it spends a very long time loading ?definitions?? Then when I reboot it spends even longer trying to load updates. I must walk away. This ties my computer up for a very long time and then always has to run ?start up repair? to get the PC to boot after loading updates. I walk away again. Every once in a while start up repair fails and the only way to use my co... Read more

I just recently gave my computer I had to my 15 year old sister. Iv'e had this system for four years and this has never happened to me before. The day after I gave it to her, she told me that it would not load. It gets all the way to the windows XP loading screen with the small green dots moving at the bottom then the dots just stop moving. The hard drive light is still lit up like its doing something but after an hour or so of leaving it on like that it was still frozen. I was able to load it up in safe mode and remove any adware/spyware on it and get a hijack this log. I'm not sure what it is she does on it but in all the time iv'e had the machine its never done this before.

Hi, Everyone,
How are you? I have been running Windows XP, Service Pack 2 on my computer for several years now. Last night, my computer froze for the first time in over half a year, so I restarted it and nothing seemed to be wrong. After about 15 minutes of using it, it froze once again. After restarting it the second time, however, it showed me the screen that says I could choose to restart in the "Last Known Good Configuration," in "Safe Mode, or to "Start Windows Normally."

If I chose the non-Safe Mode options, it would start to load Windows (with the Windows XP screen and the blue bar running under it), and then restart itself when the blue bar runs for the third time. For the Safe Mode options, it would load partway and then restart again.

Can I do something to fix this? Is this a hard drive problem? I tried unplugging everything except for my monitor and hard drive, but the problem was still there. Please help! I am using a library computer to type this and will wait until I can find a resolution, then go home and try it.

Thank you in advance!

The application is compiles and built on a Vista machine and packaged using InstallAnywhere 8.

I have successfully loaded in on 6 Vista machines and 14 XP machines.

Part of my installation process checks if .Net Framework 2

There are 3 XP machines that it Fails.

The installation in successful. The application fails to load.

I then built the application on an XP machine and was able to install and run the application on both Vista and other XP machines.

It still fails on the original 3 XP machines.

I have a very odd problem at the moment. As of recently my desktop fails to load anything except the wallpaper on any user.

Background:
I've recently acquired a Trojan.Vundo.H and have been attempting to get rid of it. I found it with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware. I've attempted numerous times at deleting the files in both safe mode and regular mode, but the virus still comes back.

I then attempted to locate the files manually. There was a single .dll file and then three registry entries (I would post then but I'm in the middle of a full scan on my computer that is infect so I shall do so when that is finished). In either mode and using cmd all were unable to be deleted. I then ran a virus scan using Avira and it found the .dll file but was unable to delete it. After a system restart I went to check to see if the file was still there and it was. However to my surprise, Avira detected the infected .dll file and was able to remove it. I then rebooted my machine and noticed the .dll was gone but that still left the three registry entries. I began to scan with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware and it said the .dll was still there, although after manually looking for the file I could not locate it.

So then I began to attempt to delete the three registry entries. I tried going in safe mode, editing the permissions, anything I could find online to do, but nothing worked. I then backed up the registry and set a system restore and then ran ccleaner.

After the restart is whe... Read more

I'm trying to fix a Lenovo 3000 N200 Model 0769 with a pentium dual core processor, a WD 160Gb #WD1600BEVS-08RS hard drive, and 2Gb RAM running Windows XP sp3 Home.  Could not find the restore CD, but have a copy of the OS on CD.A few months ago, the system crashed while I was using the computer and would begin this endless loop of trying to restart windows and then failing.  I suspected a failing HD, so I tried to put the drive into an external enclosure and plug it into my desktop PC.  It was not seeing the drive, so I bought a tested one (same model) from the internet.  Later, I was successful in bringing the OS back up again and immediately began copying files to a backup drive.  Every so often, while copying image and video files, the OS would crash again and I'd restart successfully. I suspected corrupt files or bad HD sectors.  Eventually, it quit loading Windows altogether.  I received the purchased replacement drive, however, when I plugged it into the laptop, it didn't seem to find it and I guessed that it had not been formatted yet.I took it into work where we publish a software database and plugged it into the Windows 7's mother board SATA plug and successfully detected and formatted the new drive.  I also plugged in the "failing" drive, which it detected  and ran a scan on it, automatically detecting and fixing any bad sectors.  It seemed to complete successfully and when I plugged th... Hello:

Let me begin by stating that I will donate $100 to Tech Support Guy if someone is able to *successfully* solve my problem.

First, some general info on my computer:
* Dell Latitude D510 Notebook (purcahsed in January of 2006)
* Windows XP Home - SP2
* 2GB RAM
* 80GB 5400RPM HDD
* Pentium M Dothan, 1.86GHZ, 2 MEGB

Second, a little background on the events leading to the problem:
* I'm a heavy Internet user (about 16 hours per day of blogging, social media stuff, web based email, downloading music, files, video, etc.). Typically, I leave my computer continually running for several days at a time. Last week (Jan 08), I rebooted my system after about 3 days of continual use and this is what happened, and is still happening (step by step guide)

1) I turn on my computer and the computer begins to boot normally, from the Dell logo to the Windows XP logo
2) Once the Blue Welcome Screen appears, I see the following error message:
WLKeeper.exe - Application Error The Instruction at "0x00401490" referenced memory at "0x9a3412be". The memory could not be "written".
3) If I click cancel, the OS continues to load, even producing Microsoft's trademark startup sound and displaying the default background screen of the fields and mountains against a blue sky.
4) However, as the programs are loading and the explorer bar at the bottom of the screen loads, I receive a second error message stating:

Answer:XP FAILS TO INITIALISE ON 1ST LOAD

Start the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. NOTE: If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers will generate a "keyboard error" message. Please restart and try again. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select create boot log. Then Start Normally...after the boot fails follow the advice above and choose Safe Mode Have a look at th bootlog.txt file on the C drive the final entries are nomally the fail. My formerly cool computer continues to tick me off! I've been having a hardware problem, which I've traced to the video card slot, and am currently troubleshooting. The problem will cause my computer to completely fail to start - BIOS codes and all that. Working on it though, this isn't my question.

An unrelated problem has cropped up, though, perhaps related to problems I posted earlier...

Usually (but not always) after reboot, I'll get an error that msgina.dll failed to load. It suggests copying over a new one. I've done that, and it still fails to load on the first cold boot, but loads on reboot.

Anybody here seen this before, and can offer suggestions?

(on a side note, what do you use - besides an eraser - to clean the contacts on your AGP or PCI boards?)

Answer:msgina.dll fails to load

The file has something to do with Winlogon. Look HERE for some info on this. Also, a search of MSGINA on GOOGLE provided a wealth of info on why you are having your problem.

To clean contacts, I use Ethanol obtainable from a electronics shop, maybe Radio Shack It's the oils from your hands etc etc that can cause contacts to erode.

Hello. I have Red Hat Linux and Windows XP on different partitions on my Dell. I went to login to Windows the other day, and after I selected Windows it gave me a black screen saying windows failed to load. It had options of starting in safe mode, starting from last known configuration or starting normally. Regardless of what you press, the Windows XP screen comes up like its loading, then after a few second it goes to a blue screen saying unmountable_boot_volume. It says to remove any hardware that I recently added, but I haven't added anything. My sister had been using the computer while I was gone, and I don't know what to do now. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello again - this place worked last time so I thought I would try again... here is my problem:I use a computer designed for a visually impaired person. The PC (running XP Professional) automatically loads JAWS For Windows (a program (JFW) which 'reads' what is going on (web pages, Word documents, keystrokes) so she can tell what is happening) which appears to run normally. HOWEVER when OPENBOOK (a Text scanning/'reading' program) is loaded, I get errors regarding SSILEXE.EXE not being able to load, which is a speech synthesizer designed to coordinate bothw JFW and OPENBOOK so they can 'talk' without both talking at once. I followed Freedom Scientific's directions (they are the makers of both these programs) to re-expand the AUTOEXEC.NT, CONFIG.NT and COMMAND.COM files from the Windos master disk to the C:\windows\system32\ directory, but the problem keeps coming back. (The only other error message I remember is something about not being able to "load a 16-bit program" or something like that.)Things I have noticed: a Sheild (looks like a MS Update shield) which says 'Downloading Updates 0%' (but I don't think it's really doing that) that pops up when I start Windows, JAWS runs fine, but trying to open OPEN BOOK takes a LONG time to load (and I get the error message about the speech synthesizer not being able to load) - if I try to load OPENBOOK while Norton Protection Center is checking the system this REALLY bogs down. As an initial step,go into msconfig/Start up and uncheck everything except the Firewall/AV.

If the error stops, then one of those start up programs is the cause.

If that doesn`t work -

My copy of Flight Sim loaded OK under Win XP but under Win 7 in same machine doesn't. Other software loads as it should but the Flight Sim DVD just spins, with the read light and the HD light flickering away indefinitely. I have tried manually via two set-up files I can see in Explorer but to no avail. The DVD looks OK physically. Anyone suggest what else I can try.

Answer:Flight Sim X fails to load

Not sure if this is your problem, but it could well be. FSX can only be used on one machine, it checks its self with Microsoft. A new OS may be giving the wrong info. In which case you might need to contact Microsoft by phone. You may find more info at the following forums:- click here click hereI used to use FS9 but found my machine would not cope with FSX, so gave up on it. When I buy another PC then I might try again.FSXs programming was too far ahead of hardware capabilities at the time.

Answer:Windows xp fails to load

Huh?

Okay first, what is the exact spelling of the file it is failing to load, and what is the exact text of the error message? At what point in the installation process does this happen.

One reason installs fail is because the CD is scratched, dirty, etc... Sometimes making a copy of a damaged disk will work. The copying process "fixes" the bad data before it gets burned to the new disk.

Also, a bad optical drive will mis-read and corrupt data during an install. Changing out the optical drive might fix the problem.

Ill try to make a long story short. Bought a Dell Precision 470 that was two years old from my ex boss. I ran the computer the whole time and it never once gave me a single problem. Upon receiving the computer i found that he ran a few registry deleting programs and because i know he doesn't know how to do anything i feared he did something wrong.

I in turn decided to format the computer. I am running a RAID 1 set-up (mirror) on two 250GB drives. I format the raid array first and rebuild the array then install OS which involves obviously formatting the hard drive and then install drivers reboot then what software pleases me.

The software i run is pretty basic, office 2003, illustrator, photoshop, itunes, mozilla, norton and a software and driver for my business which happens to be sign making. Now the only software thats different on there is the signmaking stuff. We use to run a Prog called signlab and now i use something else. apart from that the general use of the computer is about the same as it was the two years previous.

Every 4-6 weeks the computer decides to stop loading. Always after being shut down normal and properly. It will get to the Windows preloader screen where the three boxes just sit there and slide back and forth over and over essentially until i turn the box off. I can't for the life of me figure this out. the hard drive and information is completely in tact, what seems to be missing is the os software. for the longest time i was not able to g... Read more

I have this issue every once and a while as well and can't seem to figure the problem out.
My issue is a little different though, my PC will lock up, and when I restart it'll load Windows, and then just go to a black screen like you described.
If I let it sit for 10-15 minutes it'll BSOD and restart and work fine though.
Have you tried letting it sit?

Hi,

I've got a problem and wonder if someone could help me out...

Windows XP Pro SP2 was working fine until I rebooted and now the desktop won't load. All the programs are accesable from the task manager>new task and I have run a AVG scan with no results. The screen picture loads, but nothing else. No start bar, no office toolbar, no icons, no anything.

I've scanned the forum for an answer and there was one result for desktop failing to load, but this did not seem applicable.

I am getting no error messages.

My windows vista home premium 64 bit sp2 4gb ram Medion system has stopped my device driver for my dvd-rom (HL-DT-ST DVD Ram GH22NS40) from working properly (having previously working well for 2years). This all happended after I connected a new iHBS212 bluray drive (which is havng the same issue & I have also disconnected this and still my old drive wont work).I now get an error code 39 message and a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. I have updated the motherboard bios and windows vista OS and have tried unistalling and reinstallinmg the driver as well as searching for a solution online (I cannot access the drivers or firmware for either device from the liteon website as it gives the following error message "Database error: cannot connect to Database Can't connect to MySQL server on '202.145.180.11' (4)MySQL Error Session halted."
If you are able to obtain the drivers and firmware for these drives and eith post a link or send me the files to try and resolve this that would be great or if you can offer any other advice - please get in touch. **NB** I have seen a simmilar issue for toshiba drives and see that the solutions suggested involve updating the drivers - hence the request.- Kind Regards - Dave

Windows98 SE is failing to load on my Pentium 3 pc. The bootup process only goes as far as to the Windows opening screen, then the machine restarts all over again, and again........forever!I then tried to start the machine using a startup floppy. At the A:\ prompt I changed to C:\ and attempted starting Windows in its directory by typing WINDOWS\WIN at the C:\ prompt and hitting ENTER. The screen then went blue and displayed the following message:" VFAT Devise Initialisation failed. A devise or resource required by VFAT is not present or is unavailable. VFAT cannot continue loading. System halted. "May I know what problem this message points to and what to do to fix it? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure this is a well-known problem or not but it does happen to me and it's bugging me all the time. I need help! Everytime I try to restart my computer from a perfect shut-down, the log-on screen won't appear and I'll be sticking my eyes to the loading screen. But after sometime maybe in 2 or 3 hours, the log-on screen will appear when u restart the computer again. The safe mode can be accessed and it's working just fine. Please help me..

I'm curious if anyone knows if a) they took the ability to choose marching formations, the "guard" function, etc. out of the Conquerors expansion, or b) something happened to my game and I need to reinstall it. I was pretty sure that I had those options to start with, and now I don't... I can check to see if I still have those in AOE II, if that will help?

Is there a way to turn them off that I might have accidentally selected? I just really miss that option...it was extremely helpful.

TIA!!

I'm trying to make an RPG for AoE II. So far it's working well, but I can't get the enemy unit to go to a designated spot. It always defaults to attacking the player. I don't want to set him as an ally because you are supposed to kill him. But he doesn't go to the area to continue with the game.

I'll explain more: the enemy is supposed to run to the dock, stand on a rug, which will kill your person because you let him get away (in a transport ship). The problem is that the enemy doesn't go to the dock, but rather, attacks your person, instead of running away to escape. This makes there no point to having this part because it won't work right. It's supposed to be the first time you level up in the game, which is why I want this part. Help!!!!!!!

First I'd like to say that I am, by no means, a computer illiterate. I've tried most of the usual fixes for my problem, and none have worked.

I recently bought a new computer, which came with Vista. It worked, barely, for the first day (there were frequent freezes and crashes, usually requiring reboots). As an aside, every single time it crashed, the System Repair utility found/fixed several errors (not in the file system, but in the second thing it checks).

I had uninstalled the bulk of the crapware it was preloaded with, updated my graphics driver to the latest version, and installed only four programs (all games/game platforms). Since I had restarted the computer successfully several times after this, I doubt they were the culprit.

Anyway, to the main event. After finishing one of those games and exiting to the desktop, I left the room to grab a snack. When I returned, the PC was on its boot screen, having restarted (for some reason) while I was gone.

It failed to restart, and has failed in the dozens of retries over the next day. It gets past the BIOS, Gateway screen, the loading bar, and then... it just stops on a black screen. Occasionally, the mouse pointer appears (and once it flickered the green Vista screen, but immediately rebooted), but it goes no further. System Repair fails to even start, just going directly to a black screen. I can't get to a command prompt to run chkdsk or fixboot, and I've tried Safe Mode, it fails to load (stopping after loading ... Read more

I have a Asus laptop with the operating system of Windows Vista, and shortly after the battery died for it, I plugged it back up and turned it back on only to come to a problem of it restarting it's self over and over again. With me being aware of the F9 key and the recovery partition, I pressed it but after pressing [ems enable] thing, it goes to loading files with a white bar showing that it's loading and then a bluish and greenish abstract screen pops up but there's no menu or nothing. The only thing on the screen is the mouse icon and that's it. No wizard, no next, nothing. When I tried doing other options, it repeats the F9 proces s over and ends up leaving me at the bluish and greenish abstract screen again. If someone could PLEASE tell me how to resolve this problem I would gladly appreciate it. Thank you.

Just installed Win 10.

Now Eudora 7 fails immediately with error message
The directory specified in the command line
Files
doesn't exist or is not writable.
I have no idea what this means or where to begin with this.

This despite Win 10 crowing upon completion of installation that "all your files are exactly where you left them."

Answer:Eudora 7 fails to load in Win10

I did a little research into this and found this possible fix:

"Thanks. You answer put me onto the correct answer:Copy all of the Eudora files from C:/Program Files/Qualcomm/Eudora to c:/users/sales/appdata/roaming/qualcomm\eudora. Then edit the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Qualcomm > Eudora > CommandLine and replace C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora\Eudora.exe with c:\users\sales\appdata\roaming\qualcomm\eudora\Eudora.exeI may not have my slashing tilted the right way but you get the idea."

I have to question why you want to use software that hasn't been updated for 6 years though. Could potentially have security risks.

Hi Folks, I just received  Win7  64 bit Recovery kit from HP partner Arvato Digital Services, LLC  in the form of a USB stick.  After my would-b bro in law never made his own recovery disk, the HD failed hard. I ordered the recovery media and located this young 750 gig HD in my collection, and loaded Mint 18.1 Mate on it temporarely, until I could get the recovery media.  I am writing this with the box and HD in question. The recovery media doesn't seem to work. I successfully booted to USB, and the win7 recovery progress bar appeared, but stopped at the point where a blue recovery screen appears, but it is blank.  There is one quick flash of the HD's activity l.e.d., and then everything stops.  The only thing I see is the Cancel "X" on the upper right hand corner.  If I click on "X", I get the "continue or cancel system recovery and reboot" panel.  Nothing keeps happening unless I click on "cancel" and we go back to reboot. The HD is an Hitachi from a similar P7 1100 series from around the same year, 2011 or so.  It passed the SMART with flying colors.  I checked the USB stick, having the microsoft logo and ordered directly through HP.  It has all the files seemingly intact, and is a bootable stick.  I am truely stumped!?  The MB is fine, I have all functions using Mint.  y Any suggestions? Thanksholmziep

This is going to be long and drawn out, but this is killing me and maybe you can help me.

I work in a business environment. I have network and local machine administrator rights. Meaning, I have full control of everything. I ran into a problem a number of months ago where my Devices and Printers screen would appear, but then it would never load the devices. here is a screenshot of what happens.

Now I searched the net for some answers and I found an article that says that people have this problem when the Bluetooth service is not running. Well I started mine and the same thing happens. I logged into a different user i created on the same machine, and initially the Window comes up fine, but later on it does the same thing.

This happens both on a Windows 7 32 bit setup and a Win 7 64 bit setup.

Well, I finally found the source of the problem, at least as far as I'm concerned. We use McAfee Encryption for PC and Encryption for Files and Folders. It's only when I install the latter of the two that the issue occurs. The latter of the two btw, is a policy that forces encryption on any USB storage device inserted to the PC. So you are thinking "Great, report it to McAfee." Problem is, I did, and they tried to replicate the situation and they cannot. We ran down the list of options that we both had running and they were and are identical.

So either at this point I'm thinking one of the two is occurring.

Answer:Devices and Printers fails to load.

have you waited out the (sometimes long) process of the green bar at the top? Is it possible that it's just waiting for 1 object and therefore any other printers/devices don't show either? If one of the devices is a network printer, that just may be slow to respond. To rule that out, print some sort of test page from notepad or something.

Is it possible to run ccleaner or another registry cleaning app?

the more I think about it, has there ever been a networked printer that has since been (physically) removed or changed, but has not been changed in windows?

This description is fairly long. I went into as much detail as possible because this problem just came out of nowhere.

So I get on the computer one day and everything is cool. I rearrange some music, uninstall some software that I never use and surf the web. While I was adding several hundred music files to my iTunes I ran into an error that said I didnít have access to write to the C drive. iTunes stopped importing the music halfway through at this point. I selected all my music again and tried once more, this time it worked fine. This happened a few times before I was able to get all my music in. Iím thinking that this may have something to do with my boot problems since I had never experienced this error ever before. Itís probably the only peculiar thing that happened prior to my problem so I mentioned it.

Lastly I run disc clean up and Spybot: Search & Destroy. I updated my AVG AntiVirus and avast! and restart after it asks me to. I am then confronted with this crap.

Irregardless of the way I turn the computer off, it boots back up with the screen that informs me that Windows did not load properly. And naturally it gives me 30 some odd seconds to decide if I want to start the computer normally or in a variety of safe modes. Choosing to start the computer normally or letting the time run out results in the screen flickering for a brief second... Read more

Every so often, maybe weeks apart, when I start up my B machine (PC with XP), it doesn't load and execute Windoze Explorer. Re-booting (manually) doesn't fix it.

So, I use Alt, Ctrl, Delete to bring up the Task List and I click on the Applications Tab, key in Explorer and click Run.

Explorer comes up, I have my usual desk top and everything seems to run OK.

I do a normal Turn Off every night and the next morning, odds are that Windoze (along with Explorer) will load and execute.

Then seemingly out of the blue, one day it doesn't load and execute Explorer and I have to manually (via the Task List) get it to execute Explorer so I can use the machine.

Two questions.

1. Why does it do that?
2. Is there any change I can make to prevent it in the future?

Thanks,

Answer:Explorer Fails To Load On Start-Up (Sometimes)

Kelly's Korner says this

Control/Alt/Delete - When the Windows Task Manager dialog box appears, select the File menu and then New Task (Run). When the Create New Task dialog box appears, type in Explorer and press the OK button. Windows Explorer should restart complete with the Start button.Click to expand...

It's similar to what you are doing but maybe it will correct the problem for good.

Nope, neither update to AU, nor upgrade install from ISO worked for me - did a clean install of AU, installed apps and copied user files from mounted backup.

I did run WU thereafter sucessfully and drivers got installed, but since have only installed updates manually - all sucessfully. (with WU update blocked in firewall)

Basically, I have to remove a .bak profile from the Registry and change the RefCount and State values back to 0 on my account in the Registry.

Answer:MMC fails to load event viewer in RTM

After typing this I found a mmc.exe.config file that was forcing the version of .net.   Renaming the file fixed my problem.
You rock!  I spent a long time trying to figure this one out.  An application (Peachtree accounting) installed the .net 1.1 framework and hosed many of my MMC snap in's including event viewer, task scheduler and IIS 7 admin.
I looked in my system32 folder and sure enough there was an mmc.exe.config file that had the supported runtime section set to "v1.1.4322".  I couldn't seem to edit the file to comment out that section, vista wouldn't let me save it, but it did let me rename it to mmc.exe.config.BAK and sure enough everything started working again.  I'm guessing these problems with mmc and snap in's in Vista are all related to apps that install the .net 1.1 framework and windows vista's inability to protect that mmc.exe.config file.

Cheers to you!

Please provide us with the computer specs including model and make. Go ahead and turn off the computer and unplug it from the wall and remove any hardware or USB devices that you might have added to it and by that I mean USB thumbdrives, printer, etc. Let's have this PC only have the essential parts (mouse/kb/onboard graphics card) attached to it so we can quickly and effectively resolve the issue. Now, with the computer unplugged from the wall, press on the power button and release after 5 seconds. Now plug it in and turn on the computer. What happens now? Please do not try anything else at this point but simply report back to me and I will provide you with the next steps.

Today I had a system restore done on my PC, all my data was saved and it's all in the original hard drive, apart from the files in the windows.old folder that I've moved to my new hard drive.

Anyway, I need to install all my programs again, so I tried using the iTunes application I from my program files, it didn't work. I got the message:

Quote:

iTunes setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application

I then downloaded a new exe from the iTunes site, I made sure it was the correct version for Vista, and I got the same message.

A final suggestion online was to use the command prompt:

Quote:

regsvr32 / i SHELL32.DLL

The only thing this changed was to give me a different error message telling me I didn't have enough physical space, which can't be true because I just had a new hard drive installed today.

Any help in getting iTunes working would be very appreciated!
