Sierra EM7455 - "Configuring mobile broadband devi...

Question: Sierra EM7455 - "Configuring mobile broadband devi...

Not sure if this is a problem, more just a question... I installed a brand new Sierra EM7455 WWAN module a few days ago in my X260--got it direct from Lenovo. Getting it working was a little convoluted (had to reset BIOS) but it connects just fine to AT&T. The question or concern I have is when ever I restart the computer, I get a pop-up in the lower right that says "Configuring mobile broadband device...Do not shut down or restart Windows." It takes about 1-2 minutes, says "success" then everything is fine. The "problem" is that this happening every time I reboot. Has anyone seen this or know what's wrong? I've attached a screenshot of the message. I installed the official Lenovo drivers for the EM7455. I tried uninstalling the Sierra package and the message goes away--but so does the WWAN module... I re-installed the driver package and now the message is back. I had an X250 with the previous gen Sierra WWAN module and it was generally trouble free, no strange issues like this. Thanks

Preferred Solution: Sierra EM7455 - "Configuring mobile broadband devi...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been trying to fix a problem with my Lenovo T460S for months now, with hours spent on it and no success. The thing pops up with "Configuring mobile broadband device" every time from a fresh start, which takes about 30 seconds to complete. I've read this is to do with the SierraEM7455 onboard, but there is only one driver available for this on the website, and this does not fix the problem.  Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm getting very frustrated with it.

Answer:T460S "Configuring Mobile Broadband Device" every time on power up (Sierra EM7455)

HiThere is a solution in another thread where you've posted short question about issue with em7455 - disable Selective Suspend Mode drivers.Navigate to the folder where em7455 drivers package from Lenovo site is extracted (usually c:\drivers...). There should be Lenovo7455DriverSetup installer and Configuration.ini file. Open the latter in the text editor like Notepad. Add the following string in the 1st section [Default Values]:SS=0It'll disable SS mode drivers installation. Save the file, reinstall the drivers. I'd advice to remove existing modem drivers firstly.

Hello, I'm thinking to buy ThinkPad Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250. I?ve few questions, Pease suggest ...1. Is it really any good and practically beneficial?2. Can I use it on Fedora 27, How?s Linux support?3. X250 has two PCI Express M.2 card slot and one is already occupied by WLAN Card and other slot is available, Can I use empty slot for FRU-04X6014?4. Can I use both WLAN and WWAN simultaneously?5. What is the impact on battery (Windows and Linux)?6. Is AliExpress a good place to buy? Thankyou

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

As long as your 3G carrier supports BYOM (Bring Your Own Modem) for their service, AND it operates on a 3G band supported by the MC8355..... yes, you can.

I would like to purchase a carrier unlocked Sierra Wireless EM7455. Is it possible to update/modify the firmware on the Lenovo CRU part, allowing alterantive to At&t and Verizon carrier options? Does anyone have a trusted source to buy unlocked versions that work with Lenovo MoBo's?I'd like to use T-Mobile (via google fi) in the States, and Three mobile in Europe. Also if the Lenovo part is able to be unlocked, which of these two is the one to be ordered? Hello.I just received my X1 Carbon gen. 4 laptop with a factory installed Sierra Wireless EM7455 WWAN card and provisioned with Windows 7.  Unfortunately, I have a very persistent and annoying problem. Almost every time it resumes from hibernate mode the WWAN card device fails to restart---the Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A QDLoader Port has an error: "This device cannot start. (code 10)" as reported by the Device Manager. I have updated the drivers to the latest version  on the support site (version 7.26.4539.0105 of the Sierra Wireless Lenovo Mobile Broadband Driver Package/Device driver version 16.3.1005.41) Any thoughts?

I recently installed an EM7455 LTE modem (FRU 00JT542) and antenna kit (FRU 01AW958) in my X1 Yoga running Windows 10 Pro.Drivers installed fine and I have nothing unidentified in Device Manager, and "Cellular" exists in the networking panel (when you click on the network icon in the taskbar). However, none of my SIM cards are being detected by the system. I've tried T-Mobile and Verizon SIM cards (both verified working in other devices) to no avail -- Windows keeps telling me to insert a SIM.I spent all afternoon on the phone with half a dozen Lenovo support reps (and have a ticket open with them) but we haven't made any headway yet. Here are some things we tried:Different Windows 10 installations (the original image on the supplied SSD vs. the one I created and have been using on my 950 Pro): no effectThe Windows 7 Mobile Broadband Activation tool: errorVarious Gobi 5000 Drivers: no effectUpdating UEFI: no effectWindows Troubleshooting: uselessI'm beginning to think it may be a hardware issue with the SIM slot but the reps haven't been willing to admit as much. In addition, I only have the depot warranty which I've heard atrocious things about, so I'd like to avoid that. I was also informed that they don't allow self-replacement of system boards so worst case I'll have to shell out for an onsite warranty.I'll take any suggestions -- even if they're shots in the dark!

Hey there! I hope you can help me with a problem. One of our L470's stopped reading simcards all of a sudden (Sierra EM7455 LTE modem). After opening a case, sending the notebook in, getting the mainboard replaced and setting it up with Windows 10 Enterprise x64 again, that modem still won't work!I hope you can help me here, because at this point i don't want another struggle with the repair center. ISSUE:After a clean install of Win 10 Enterprise x64 and the newest official drivers and firmware, including the BIOS of course, the Windows 10 devicemanager doesn't seem to find the LTE-Modem.The Sierra EM7455 driver from Lenovo won't install. The newest driver directly from Sierra is able to be installed but the firmware won't because it can't find the modem. Driver and firmware are two separate packages.I already checked the BIOS. WAN is enabled under 'I/O'.What else can I try? Thanks for your help!

I have an X1 Yoga 20FQ with Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit and a Sierra Wireless EM7455 WAN card that came with the unit from Lenovo and an AT&T micro SIM card (also in the unit when it came from Lenovo). I also have the latest Lenovo software for the Sierra Wireless card (v. 7.47.4743.0105) from the Lenovo web site. The WAN card will connect to HPSA on AT&T (using the "default APN" and "broadband" in the Win 10 settings) but it will not connect to AT&T LTE. The AT&T web site at https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1218316 says to use NXTGENPHONE as the APN, but when I input that as the APN the card does not see it at all. I know that NXTGENPHONE is the LTE APN because that is the APN that my cell phone uses for its LTE data connection. AT&T tech support told me I the Windows 10 and NXTGENPHONE APN settings are correct and the AT&T diagnostics show I an LTE connection is available to me.I realize that there can be sources for this problem (Win 10 or AT&T) but I thought I would ask here to see whether anyone has experienced the problem or has a solution.Thanks.

[OS: Windows 10] Is there an application to use for sending/receiving SMS messages with the Sierra EM7455 Wireless WAN card? What I am looking for isn't one of those bulk sending applications that connects to some server ove Internet. What I want is to send and receive SMS messages just like the way I can do so on my phone. I am really hoping someone knows of such an app, because all googling efforts turned out to be useless.

Hello and welcomeThat's not a Lenovo deal to lock the ports, more clearly, to choose appropriate default USB composition. MS and Sierra do that. To change default USB composition change Sierra wwan card drivers installation configuration and reinstall them. Edit the configuration.ini file within the drivers package:- [Default Values] section- USBCOMP=x parameter (choose 8 as you want).

Dear Thinkpad X Forum, here it is Michi, an old user of all kind of Thinkpad. In the last 5 years I have had the X1 Carbon (1st and 2nd Generation) and X1 Yoga (1st generation). After a very unfortunately repair in my X1 yoga (only 18 months old but suffered 4 onsite repairs with the only result that two LCD screen were broken, hinges not working and battery not able to work on a reliable manner), I decided to move to a X1 Carbon 5th Generation. Info regarding the new laptop:- 20HRCTO1WW- Received on january 4th 2018 (should have been produced in the last week of 12/2017), directly shipped from PRC-WWAN: Sierra 7455 ISSUE:1) tried to insert the MICRO-SIM I had on my the X1 Yoga. Current Lenovo firmware for the EM7455 is 02.20.03.22, however Sierra Wireless has a newer version, 2.24.05.06 listed here: https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airprime/minicard/74xx/airprime-em_mc74xx-approved-fw-pa... After flashing with the newer version and rebooting, the card reverts back to 2.20.03.22. Has anyone else experience this? Is this something the carrier would dictate and enforce? Any help would be appreciated. Reason for upgrading is, when traveling internationally the unit has spotty connectivity and not very reliable. Hoping firmware upgrade would be a step in the right direction to resolving it.

I bought two brand new X270's WWAN upgradable and bought EM7455 cards separately. I installed the cards as directed. When I booted the laptop the first time after installation, a warning message saying something to the effect of "unknown network hardware EM7455." Windows didn't detect the newly installed card. So I did a CMOS reset (removed the extra battery, disabled the built-in battery on the BIOS and pressed the CMOS reset button to the left of the battery bay). After the CMOS reset, Windows recoginized a new hardware by the name of "Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm" but couldn't install the driver (see the attached screenshot). I did install Lenovo's EM7455 driver (total file size 191MB) and didn't work. I turned to Sierra and found a generic USB Build 4581 driver and it didn't work. When I restarted Windows, the newly found hardware was gone. I did a CMOS reset again and it came back up on the device manager list.  So I turned to Windows update. It found a driver update by the name of Sierra Incorporated - Ports dated 10/20/2016. It tried to install it but it failed. However, the device's name was changed to Qualcomm COM Port (3) and it was still not installed properly. I went to the device's properties and changed the port to 8. It recognized the full name of the card but GPRS connecitons on Windows didn't show up. I restarted Windows, and the device was gone again! I checked the BIOS permissions and I tried different scenarios (disabled WWAN, e... Read more

Hi I resently got a Thinkpad x1 yoga gen 2Type 20JE-S1C600S/N R9-0NGFRQ 17/05 As far as I know there should be a Sierra Wireless EM7455 modem in the machine, but i can't get windows to detect it. I doesn't show up in device manager, or in the network setting of windows. It is running Windows 10 Home. 64bit. In bios I can enable or disable WWAN (under security > IO ..), not sure if that means there is a modem, or just a setting thats always there in the bios. There is a slot in the back of the machine for a SIM card, but not sure if that means there is a moden in the machine, or the slot is always there.  I Tried reinstalling the machine, but didn't help.I've made sure there is no pending updates for the machine.   1. Can you guys help confirm if there is a modem in the machine. (If not, then the seller lied to me)2. If there is, how do I get it working ? I did put a SIM card in the SIM slot in the back of the macine. I'm pretty sure it is currectly inserted. There is only one direction where I hear a small click, and the card stays in place.  Thanks Simon

I just recently subscribed to Sprint Mobile Broadband from the 3G store, and I got the 598U Sierra USB Modem for $30, a free antenna, and bought a router from them.

My question is about the 5 gig limit that Sprint has on it's $60 a month service. If you exceed the limit, you get charged extra. Is there any type of tracking software that shows how much bandwidth has been used?

Answer:598U Sierra USB Modem & Sprint Mobile 5gig limit

What router are you using?

Usually when you use the aircards on your laptop the connection app keeps track of usage (I know sierra's apps do from experience, as does verizons). Through a router it depends on what you are using though.

I have just taken delivery of a B50-30 All in One and it doesn't recognise my Telstra 4G Broadband Modem Device which plugs into a USB port and imports a Connection Manager which then initiates connection to the internet.. Although the machine makes  a tingle when the modem is plugged in (have tried all different USB ports) - this would seem to indicate that it recognises a new device - the Connection Manager icon doesn't pop up. The modem User Guide says it can be loaded manually by finding and clicking on the file "setup.exe". Couldn't find this file even though there is virtually nothing on this brand new computer. Any help appreciated.

Can someone confirm whether the Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is supplied locked or unlocked on the X60s? Just bought an X60s and was told the internal SIM slot is unlocked and would take any SIM card but for some reason it's taken an unhealthy dislike to my T-Mobile SIMs. When I load the ThinkVantage Access Communications Wireless Connection Staus window and click on the Mobile Broadbad tab, at the top above the Connection Status box I get the message "SIM card is locked...." When I load ThinkVantage Access Communications and press the Mobile Broadband button, I get the following message "The installed SIM card is not authorised for use with integrated Mobile Broadband adaptor in your computer." This latter message seems to suggest that Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is locked.

Answer:X60s - Is the built-in 3G mobile Mobile Broadband adaptor locked?

Hi all,I have issues getting mobile (3/4g) broadband to work with my new T470 Thinkpad. In Ubuntu, the Fibocom Adapter is only detected as a generic MBIM adapter, and although Network Manager (and it's applet) display my network provider, the connection is not established, and the system process mbim-proxy is hanging at 100% CPU. This issue has been reported here (but seems to remain unsolved ?) : https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg158286.html Did anyone get this to work?Best whishes and thanks for any hints!

I have Tiscali broadband working on one PC and want to configure a second PC to use the same connection. I realise that I can't use both at the same time and also don't want to network the PCs. I have installed the modem software onto the second PC but can't get a connection only fault code 678. Both lights come up on the modem. I am sure that it is something to do with the Internet connection configuration on my PC. On the first PC under Internet Properties/ Connections/Settings/Properties/General it lists a dial up and ADSL connection but on my second PC, the drop down box for General is blank! Any ideas how to change the configuration would be much appreciated.

I purchased a HP ENVY TouchSmart 14-k111nr Sleekbook that came with T-mobile Mobile Broadband for 2 years from the Microsoft Store two months ago. When I clicked 'Internet Access', there would be a 'Mobile Broadband' option for me to choose and select the T-mobile Mobile Broadband. Unfortunately, that has not been appearing since the last few days. I checked my hardware and it appears that there still is a 'Smart Card' but with no information regardin it. I also checked the HP Support Assistant and HP Utility Center but they had nothing. I have tried removing the card and placing it back again. The computer emits the sound that recognizes new hardware but no installater comes up Searching forums, I tried downloading the HP Connection Manager, but it failed to install when an error message ' NO WWAN' came up I also downloaded and reinstalled the latest Mobile Broadband Drivers but nothing happened. In fact, I suspect that it maybe the new updated drivers that caused my T-mobile SIM card to be disabled. I have tried calling HP support but they cannot help and demand payment for 'advanced tech support' when my Laptop is still under Warranty. I tried calling T-mobile, but they said that it was a problem that I needed to contact HP for. I contacted Microsoft that said I need to get in touch with T-mobile. The second call on HP, they told me to contact T-mobile, One big circle. TL;DR: I need the installer for my T-mobile SIM Card, mobile broadband... Read more

Gday,

I've got a bit of a problem I'm having trouble solving. I have a Desktop which I'm trying to network with an EeePC for the purposes of internet connection and file sharing. Both are running Win7 Ultimate. I'm using a USB Mobile Broadband dongle on the Desktop, and a crossover cable between the two. Now, I can get the file sharing set up no problems with the Homegroup feature, and internet connection sharing works fine too. But my concern is that for some reason, Win7 is lumping the 'Local Area Connection' for the crossover cable and the Mobile Broadband connection together as the same 'Unidentified Network'. I've attached a screen shot to illustrate.

I don't like this. It means that in order to set up a homegroup (which is the only way I've been able to figure out how to get the file sharing to work), I have to set the 'Unidentified Network' to the 'Home' location. Considering this includes my connection to the internet, it really doesn't seem secure at all, especially if I enable file sharing.

Does anyone know how I can split the two connections ( the Crossover LAN and the mobile broadband) into two separate 'unidentified networks', so I can apply the 'Home' template to one, and the 'Public' to the other? Or any other means of setting up a secure crossover network with a shared internet connection?

Thanks in advance

Question: Mobile broadband

I bought a Lenono Thinkpad Edge E530c and would like to use the internal 3G mobile connecting. I inserted my sim into the sim slot under the batery compartment but its not working.  It looks like the drivers are missing. When I start the Mobile connection app it give me "No Wireless Mobile Broadband device found." When I go look in the device manager I cant see any modems installed. So how do I make use of the 3G sim slot to connect to the internet? I also downloaded some bluetooth / modem drivers for my series but nothing seems to work. Please help.

Answer:Mobile broadband

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To activate WWAN in your Lenovo ThinkPad E530c, first you have to ensure that you have a WWAN card and WWAN antennas installed. WWAN upgradable models have the WWAN antennas installed from the factory these will be red and blue wires (the Wi-Fi are typically white, black and grey or just black and grey depending on model). If you have WWAN antennas installed from the factory, probably you need to purchase a compatible WWAN card and install it. If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, install Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation which will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband.

Go to Lenovo Support site, enter MTM number of your device in quick path and get the system specifications. If you find any difficulties, please share the MTM of your device.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Question: Mobile Broadband

I have mobile broadband with 3. Today I tried to connect and did so successfully. However, when I check the connection to see my how my usage was going my 3 connection manager told me I was not connected? How can this be? I am connected to the internet via my USB 3 modem not wifi and am surfing the net.Can anyone help me understand this?

Answer:Mobile Broadband

When you install the 3 Mobile Broadband software, an entry is added in the Network Connections folder for a "Dial-up" connection. If you double click this, you will connect without having to use the Connection Manager, which may still show you as *NOT* connected, even though you are.Additionally, if the Mobile Broadband is set as your default connection and in "Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections" you have selected either...- Dial whenever a network connection is not present- Always dial my default connection...then as soon as you run a program that requires internet access (web browser, email etc), the Mobile Broadband will connect.

Hi I am using vodafone mobile broadband while on holiday. I am able to receive emails but am having a problem sending them. There is no error message it just times out. I have rebooted laptop but am getting nowhere - had the same problem a few weeks ago - the email i was sending just sat in my outbox until I got home. Any suggestions appreciated

Answer:mobile broadband

The general rule is that you must send mail using the SMTP server of the ISP with which you are connected to the internet. At the moment, that means using Vodafone's SMTP server. Your email program will almost certainly be configured to use the SMTP server of your home broadband provider, which won't work with the Vodafone connection.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I will be moving from the rented house I've been in for 21 months into a new house in the next couple of months. The house is a new-build and I will obviously not have broadband to start with - don't know if I'll have a phone line straightaway yet. I am trying to work out the best way to get online during this time.I am in the UK.

I went in to an O2 shop today and they were trying to sell me a dongle which cost £20 and then £2 a day, £7.50 for a week and £15 for a month. This would get over my immediate problem of geing broadband-lacking when I move but wasn't quite what I had in mind. I was thinking more of a dongle with x amount of Gbs (to be decided) which doesn't have clock running on it. So, after I've stopped needing it at the new house, I could take it out and about with me on my laptop whenever I wanted and when it ran out I'd top it up.

Does such a deal exist and, if so, what size in Gbs would be OK? We use aroung 10Gb per month on average but that's with the kids looking at YouTube, using iPlayer a bit so assume that just a bit of surfing would need less? Thanks for any help.

Answer:Mobile broadband Pay-as-you-go?

Hi,
I use '3' mobile broadband all over UK. £10 per month, 1gb which is plenty for an hour or so a day surfing plus emails.

I think in a new build you'll soon have utility providers beating a path to your door!!

Hi all, i am a first time user to having a laptop, i want to get broadband for it and it to be pay as you go, what do you suggest. also someone told me a can connect it to my desktop broadband, how would i be able to do this if so it wouldn't be mobile would it?. i'm with virgin with my desktop computer.

Answer:mobile broadband

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I assume you live in the UK like me so I think I can help.

I use 3 mobile broadband which in my opinion is the best of the PAYG tariffs. You can buy a dongle which is the expensive bit or if you have an unlocked 3G phone which allows tethering you can use that if you know how to set it up.
You get 150MB of free data when you top up (minimum ?5 in store, ?10 online) plus it also works as a phone if you want it to.
This 150MB of data lasts 90 days or until you use it all up.
This means it works out you spend ?1.66 for 50MB of data every month, which if you have static broadband at your home should be enough. If you ever use more than this just top up more regularly.

For more info (and probably a much clearer explanation visit 3 - Pay As You Go - SIM Only - Free stuff - Free stuff with every top-up)

I don't know too much about Virgin medias mobile broadband but a good place to start would be here Mobile Broadband - Broadband - Virgin Media

Hope this helps, Oli.

EDIT: After reading your post more carefully, it sound like your do not have your Internet connection going into a Wireless router and then to your laptop and desktop.

This suggests to me that your Virgin Contract may be quite old as all new tariffs include a free Wireless router and setup, not to mention less to pay per month (I went down this road with BT, tripled my connection speed, got a load of free stuff and I now pay ?10 less per month.)

Hi, I've a Lenovo S10-3 to which I've fitted an Ericsson F3607GW wwan card for Lenovo notebooks FRU: 60Y3237.  I bought the card from Hong Kong via Ebay.  I downloaded driver 83W013WW.exe from the Lenovo site and it allows me to connect in areas of 3G coverage. Unfortunately we don't have full 3G coverage in Australia and in my home region there is only a GSM signal and the card will not connect to it, although my old usb plug in modem works fine!  According to the Ericsson data sheet the F3607GW has the full range of frequency bands avilable - so it should work! I see that other drivers and the Ericsson broadband Manager are available and would welcome help in what drivers/broadband managers to use.  I have read on other forums that some other modems require the region to be set to '3' to allow proper working in Australia. I would welcome advice on which drivers/manager etc to use to get the card working properly in Australia. If anyone has experience with the GPS capability of this card I would like to learn how it was done - that's the next step after getting the wireless broadband function to work! Looking forward to some good advice! Rogerf

You would not be able to use your 3 mobile Broadband abroad as difference country uses difference system via their mobile network, you will also need an account with the local broadband supplier Mobile roaming calls worldwide is difference than mobile broadband Most International telephone companies have an agreement between themselves that will allow you to use your local mobile phone on there local network and charge you roaming fees from 80% - 175% above the normal cost some also charge you both ways, for receiving a call or a text message and when you make a call

If you didn't fit mobile broadband card yourself you havn't that card in your laptop from the factory. It's wwan ready only, i.e.has internal wwan antennas and sim card holder. If you'll decide to buy and insert wwan card you have not to download and launch application from Lenovo site "Mobile Broadband". It's for simless CDMA/EV-DO networks only.

Hi and welcome there.. i heard not about the first time this question.. Al what i can say is the best compatible WWAN card is the SE F3507  ...and not all cards will work overall (different / newer Card-Firmware) even when you buy a Lenovo card (used by some thinkpads/S10 with 3G/S10-2 with 3G)
second is more difficult have to disassemble your Ideapad ... you need to install a antenna in LCD frame (loose warranty)...
and the third barrier is under windows till now not correct working scenario (even with the actual drivers) ...
Hints for try out upgrading/opening S12  here in this part of forum ... same for tryout upgrading wwan card...

Question: Mobile Broadband

Hi,Slightly hijacking the thread...I too live in a rural area (Ewelme in Oxfordshire). Our problem is that the exchange is the other side of the Thames and the Council will not let BT place more cabling over the bridge or under the Thames - so some users have Broadband others do not (only at 1mbps).Mobile signal is atrocious indoors, can barely get a signal and 3G is non-existant. However, outside and a few yards down the drive 3G kicks in.Therefore my question is: Is it possible to get a High Gain aerial and have that connect to the 3G dongle to access a better signal inside the house? If so, does anyone know how, and which equipment is required?I work in Kent and really would like to be able to work from home occasionally to avoid the 200 mile round trip every day to the office.ThanksJ

Don't think there is any way you are going to get it, until Gov makes a move on all UK being able to get BB. This they are wanting to do. And charge everybody for the extra installation. About £6 to £8 a year. One of the things they are doing is laying Fiber Optics in Sewer Pipes

HiI'm having a problem with mobile broadband on our x200 laptops After a period of use the HSPA Mobile broadband becomes grayed out. On investigation it seems like the entire ericsson network adaptor has been removed as it has gone from device manager and it re detected . Reinstalling the driver makes no difference . The wireless and Lan connections are not afffected . On rebuilding the laptop the network adaptor returns so it does exsist on the laptop This is happening over multiple laptops . We have a locked down user profile so users would not be able to removed the hardware . Has anyone seen this before ?? Peter

I have just purchased a Lenovo T420s with the built in mobile broadbank option.  I don't seem to have received a sim with my package, is that normal?  Any suggestions as to the best place to pick one up?

Answer:Mobile Broadband Sim

Did you configure it with the Gobi 3000 card? If you did call Lenovo and they should send you out the missing SIM card. Hit Fn+F5 and check for the Wireless WAN option in there.

Hi.I have a lenovo thinkpad x201t 2985-DMG which was delivered with win7-32.I have reinstalled it with win7-64bit. I have not yet got the touch to work. But more troublesome is the GOBI2000 mobile internet. I use Access Connections 5, and I set up a new location profile. When I press connect it takes a while then it says:'SIM card is not present. Insert the SIM and try again.'I have tried with two different SIM-cards which works in other machines. Do I need a driver for the SIMcard-reader or could mine be broken?

Answer:No mobile broadband.

You did try inserting them the right way? It happened to me once - I was inserting it wrong side first

Question: Mobile broadband

Hi By default the Mobile broadband card in my X301 is turned off. Is it possible to turn in on by default when Windows start ups

Answer:Mobile broadband

It has to be mentioned as matter of disclaimer really since this forum is innundated with users who mistakenly believe they're x was GSM / CDMA equipped when they notice the SIM card slot under the battery. Most X's have the SIM slot but this seems standard regardless if the user configured or will have it installed. Assuming you spec'd your for the card and aren't being hopefully confused by spotting the slot....1. Check your BIOS setting to ensure the card is enabled2. check devmgmt.msc for the WiFi or "MobileBroadband" category since the category isn't standard and verify the card is properly installed and enabled / if it is then verify in the cards Advanced properties to ensure the OPERATING SYSTEM DOESN'T TURN OFF THE CARD TO SAVE POWER !!!! Still failing then contact tech support or reply with the rest of the story and whatever inordinary things you've done to this thing because the manufacturers and cellular providers along with Lenovo's group have worked extraordinarily hard to even COOPERATE IN DETERMINING CONFIGURATION AND RARE FOR  SO MANY THINGS TO COME TOGETHER SO WELL IN LAPTOP AS DO BROADBAND CARDS. The cards monthly subscription costs and cellular usage penalties has forced them to behave so cohesively when delivering the option since the type of person who buys a broadband card expects it to work and work out of the box. If you could take an official or even unofficial survey of what kind of hardware failure makes end users and prosum... OK, I asked a question before and got one response...but not answers. This should be simple.1. I have been using the mobile broadband on my T410 for 3 years. It worked fine.2. I did a major windows update.3. Mobile broadband has gone. There is nothing! COmputer says there is no sim card. (there is a sim card and I reinserted it)4. FN F5 bring up no mobile broadband.5. I am paying my $30/ month and have had nothing for past 4 months!!! its killing me. 6.  It worked once for 3 years. Now it does not work. I tried reinstaling the software and it gets almost rhrough and says "There is no mobile sim card installed in this computer"!! Ugggh!!!!7. Lenovo support is useless. Even tho I only annoyed them one time with a problem in 3 years of service contract, my contract ended a couple months ago....so no help there....I have spoken to a dozen people and none have a clue what to do. Surely someone out there has seen or heard about this? My computer cannot be convinced that mobile broadband should be allowed to work!!   HELP!

Answer:Mobile Broadband....need help - its gone...!

I'm the person who responded before. Could anyone who has mobile broadband and who has kept all the various Microsoft and Lenovo updates current tell us that their WWAN is still working? It seems odd if Wombat and I both had a hardware failure at the same update time, but I suppose it could happen. PS My card is an Ericsson 3507

I bought Lenovo ThinkPad T 430, but the mobile broadband can't start. I had inserted the sim card and downloaded the  Ericsson H5321gw/C5621gw Mobile Broadband Driver  which I have installed but I cant find Mobile broadband manager compatible with windows 8

Answer:T 430 MOBILE BROADBAND

Hi Swathu,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Are you sure that your model has been shipped with WWAN card from the factory?

If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband. Also, install Think Vantage Access connections to handle various wireless profiles.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I recently bought a T520 type 4240, when I tried to use the mobile broadband by inserting the SIM card for 3G it doesn't detect it, even on the access connections it's grayed out I can't change anything, please help

Answer:T520 Mobile broadband

I could be that your T520 is WWAN upgradable which means that the WWAN adapter is not included. In that case you have to buy and insert the WWAN adapter.

Do you have the rest of the model/type (4240-XXX)?

If you look in device manager do you find any mobile broadband adapter or a device with missing driver?

I have just purchased the Huawei E 160 G USB Modem on the 3 mobile Broadband net work. My intention is to use this for short periods of surfing at work (I?m a Market Trader) in conjunction with my laptop which is running Vista Home basic. After a very short time of use I found out how easy it is to be caught out by automatic down loads ? namely Microsoft was about to use up 35mb of my price plan. I decided right away to switch off automatic updates and opted to be asked before such updates started - i.e. I can do that type of update at home for free on the house hold wireless system. This got me thinking whether there was other setting I could change on my lap top to reduce the rate at which my broadband time is eaten up. For instance can I reduce the amount of downloading there is on a standard net page so that I only get to see the text etc? Are there other automatic down load items I should consider or anything that will extend the life of my mobile surfing time per £ I pay?Kind Regards Paul

Don't surf in to youtube because it may start downloading straight away and some of the files are quite large!

So Windows 8 doesn't work on my Edge E530 with the Ericsson mobile broadband. At all. There are no drivers listed under the Windows 8 option in the Drivers section. The Windows 7 drivers worked for W8 RTM Preview, but they don't work for W8 Pro as released. There is a bug in the "Known Issues for Windows 8" concerning enabling mobile broadband in the BIOS, but I checked and there's no option for that. Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation says there's no supported wireless drivers, the Ericsson drivers install without errors and my drivers screen looks like this.   I'm just so darn tired of this computer costing me money and time to fix.

Answer:Mobile Broadband on Windows 8

Well, tried all the beta drivers etc. Nil effect. I really do think that it is important that Lenovo support released versions of Windows, it is quite important.

What do mobile broadband mean in their small print "fair usage"? If you have PAYG and opt for a £10 a month that means 33Mb per day (1Gb per 30 days)as a limit. What happens if you go over that and how do they limit your usage?

Answer:Mobile broadband limits?

Wasn't that hard to find, click hereQ. What happens if I go over my data allowance and am I charged?.A. If you go over your allowance, you can still access the internet at broadband speeds, however you will be charged 10p per megabyte of data used.

I recently signed up to an Orange mobile broadband contract with 3GB monthly allowance. The software comes with a window which includes Statistics. This gives daily, monthly and yearly usage since the date the contract started. However I am not 100% sure if this gives me the info I need to see how my monthly Orange allowance is going.I phoned Orange helpline and they couldn't tell me as perhaps I have not been uploaded to their system yet. As far as they are concerned I havn't used anything! She said I would get half a month for the first month since I started on 17th Jan. She suggested using Net Traffic Meter. I checked this out but found negative reviews and wasn't sure anyway if it would provide anything extra than what I already have with the Orange Mobile Partner.Anyone any thoughts?thanks!

Answer:mobile broadband monitoring

You could try NetMeter click here not the same as Net Traffic Meter, it's supposed to be pretty good, although I haven't used it in quite a while.

Hi!I have previously successfully used my built in 3G modem in my T410, model 2537W6C with Win7 64bit. It's unclear why it has stopped working. I have not touched the SIM card. I don't recall messing with any drivers, broadband-related software, etc.  I have installed drivers "Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Modem 9205", version 2.0.7.4 (2011-05-09). The Lenovo "Wireless Radio" app (<Fn>-<F5>) shows Wifi, bluetooth and mobile broadband adapter installed, but only the first two can be toggled on/off. The mobile broadband is stuck in "off". If I press the button to Power on Wireless WAN Radio, the mouse cursor turns into an hourglass, but the WWAN symbol does not turn green (i.e. it is not turned on). I have Ubuntu installed on the same system as Dual boot. Mobile broadband used to work in Ubuntu, but does not appear in the available networks any longer. Please advise what more troubleshooting I could do, and how I can get my Mobile Broadband adapter back to life.

Answer:T410 mobile broadband

Helloo and welcomeAny chance the wwan card is captured by Linux' stand by mode while the system boots Windows? That might mean the card can't resume from one of the power mode.Thy to reset the BIOS/EC and laptop power circuits:unplug the power cable and battery, press the power button and hold it for 20...30 seconds. Enter the BIOS Setup, load and save default settings, check out the settings you prefer, save them. Boot laptop. These steps might help but not resove issue until you'll find the way how Linux interacts with modem.

Having a bit of a problem with "3" Mobile broadband modem. It used to work fine, but now it doesn't. Plugged into the laptop (Acer 5310) it shows up as online with a 5bar connection (the max available). When I attempt to connect to the internet it goes through the routine for a couple of minutes then pops up with"The remote server is not responding in a timely fashion"The modem is a ZTE MF622Any help much appreciated!

Answer:3 Mobile Broadband Problem

If you haven't changed anything at your end, it is most likely to be a server problem at theirs - how long ago did it work nad have you chnaged anything in your setup since ?

Hello, all. My question is simply: is it possible to send an internet connection from a mobile broadband dongle through a wireless router via an ethernet cable?

Thank you in advance for any support.

Just over 2 months ago I purchased a 12 GB pay as you go deal with 3. For less than £100 it is a great deal. I only use the facility at work and over the 2 months it has become invaluable. However, I am now having problems and finding it impossible to get internet access for more than the odd few minutes. Having talked to a few other 3 users it would seem they are having the exact same problem, after 2 months of using the service without problem it comes to a sudden and almost total stop. One purchased their 12 gig deal in early Dec 2008 the other at the end of Dec 2008 and me in early 2009. In each situation after 2 months and a few days we have all started to encounter problems. The icing on the cake here is that the first of the above to purchase believed they had used their 12 gig credit and so topped up by £10 and got perfect access again for a few weeks ? I add here that they had not used up their allocation and that in fact they had only used 1.5 gigs.Has anyone else heard of this problem? If it is 3 limiting people after a few months that is outrageous and surely must be illegal? If not it is certainly immoral and should be given a nationally huge publicity push. As I said this facility had become invaluable to me and I now feel like I have lost one of my arms now at work.
