Lenovo Yoga 700 - Sound crackling

Question: Lenovo Yoga 700 - Sound crackling

Hi Guys, I've recently bought a Yoga 700 (14"/i7) and noticed that both speakers crackle a lot. I've done some googling and can see it's a fairly common complaint among several yoga products. I've tried some of the fixes but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried:Uninstalling and reinstalling the driverChanging the sampling rateLimiting the max CPU % I can't live with it so if it can't be fixed, I'll have to return it. Cheers guys,George

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi.I purchased x1 yoga about a week ago. Since the day after the first use, I have been having a problem with the left speaker which gives a crackling sound with higher than about 70 % of the volume. The volume where crackling starts varies depending on the source of the sound (talk show, music, whatever). I updated all the softwares and drivers with the latest versions on windows 10 and the problem doesn't seem to be resolved. Can somebody help me out with this?

Hi guys. Really need help here.It began about a week ago. the sound starts crackling when I try to play something. I've tried litterally ANİTHING that I could think of. Changing the power settings, updated the drivers, deleted some of the drivers, tried withdifferent sources. I've looked at this post: Lenovo Y510P - Crackling Sound  and the solution given there didn't work. I've also tried other posts. So what to do?

Hi everyone, My computer (the Lenovo Y510P) started acting up the first day I bought it. It runs smoothly and everything, but the speakers seem to crackle and pop whenever I play music or games (even at a low volume). I've been seeing that many Lenovo Y510P users have been having this same issue and can assume that the problem is a hardware issue because: 1) Installing different versions of sound drivers AND even downloading the recommended sound drivers from Lenovo DOES NOT WORK.2) Changing the power options DOES NOT WORK.3) Plugged in headphones and even bluetooth can hear the static. If anyone (more specifically, the Lenovo Tech Support) has a fix for this hardware issue, please let me know. I'm thinking about returning this laptop since this is the 3rd day of having it. If there's no fix for this defect, I'm returning it before the 7th day. Thanks everyone!

Hi, I just got this laptop and I've had this problem right out of the box. Every time I play any kind of audio, there is a crackle that comes through the speakers. It only happens before the audio, never during. I've tried updating audio drivers but no luck. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Hello Sorry If this is in the wrong place but I couldn't find a board for IdeaPad 700. I've had this laptop for a decent while (almost a year) and although it hasn't really bothered me much in the past, it's really starting to bother me now as I'm now usually in an area with more people (libraries, lecture theatres etc.). Everytime I start up my laptop, I can hear a constant crackling sound (which would continue until I shut down the laptop but would continue again right as I turned it back on) and sometimes a beep or two but mainly from underneath my laptop where the fans are located or where my right speakers are located. I'm not sure if it is a sound card issue or a driver issue as I don't hear anything like that through my headphones and the sound is perfect, however, the crackling noise still continues on my laptop itself. When I play music or watch any video through my speakers, the sound from the left speaker seems fine but the sound from the right speakers sometimes becomes distorted and you can hear like a quiet mumbling sound of the music or video underneath. I've also noticed that when I am using my scroll wheel on my mouse or scrolling using my touch pad, the crackling gets louder but as soon as I stop scrolling, it goes back to its "normal" crackling sound. I'm not sure if this is enough information but I really have no other idea of how to accurately describe the sound. I've also tried changing driver versions but it did not seem to work or do anything... Read more

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad 700-15ISK crackling sound (speaker?)

Hi VinceZent ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try booting on the BIOS using the Novo key (item6 page6) to turn on and press a bit on the scrolling on the touchpad.
Check if same sound appears booting on another live media is available.

Reviewing the placement of the touchpad to the systemfan and right speakers , I think mechanically is an issue with the fan. Pressure can be done by the touchpad passing it to the fan and underlying structure including the speakers as ,maybe just a cable on the wrong place since expected that it would be silent on this model.

You don't have to change on the softwares but I would encourage you giving technical support a call for in warranty service and option that you can decide on.

Hope this help answer your query.
Update us how things go.

My Lenovo ideapad with Windows 8.1 has been having problem with too small sound, and I went to search the methods to improve it and found that I could activate the Sound Equilizer from sound setting. However, each time I try to do so, any software that plays music stops playing any sound. Their "play" button do not react anymore, or they send me error message as I double click on sound file to play with them. How can I fix this error? The action I took was as follows:right side of tool bar --> Right click on the sound icon --> Sounds --> playback (left most tab) --> double click on speaker "Conexant Smartaudio HD" --> Expansion (third tab) --> check "Sound equilizer", the fourth option in the gray box of Expansion, and click OK to complete the setting. After this action, no sounds can be played using any programm - I tried Windows Media Player, iTunes, Quicktime Player, VLC Media Player, the Windows 8 Music Player. None of them worked. Some sends me message that the format of the sound file is not readable, even though they are very normal mp3 or wav files. To fix this I had to bring all changed settings of Sound to original. Then the files can be played again. What can I do to fix the small sound problem?

Ok so i would describe myself as an intermediate/advanced PC user, but this has baffled me. My speakers suddenly stopped working so i did the normal reinstalling of the drivers however this did nothing. I tried this many times, uninstalling the windows audio drivers. Nothing worked. Because of all my messing with the system to try and get the speakers to work, i decided to reinstall windows hoping this would fix the issue. On the newly installed version of windows i had no sound from the Microsoft drivers or from installing the Realtek drivers. Currently i have noticed that the drivers do not seem to be correctly installing. After installing the Realtek drivers the installation all works perfectly, restarting the computer and then finishing the installation etc. But after i check in device manager the Microsoft drivers still seem to be installed? I have tried manually uninstalling the Microsoft drivers and then installing tthe Realtek, but the Microsoft drivers just reappear. The sound does work from the headphone jack. I initially thought it might be the hardware the speakers themselves but after noticing the drivers aren't installing correctly it may well be a software issue. Can anyone help?!?! I really don't have the £99 Microsoft wanted to help and Lenovo were completely useless, uninsterested and told me to contact Microsoft. What really sucks is the fact my Warranty with Lenovo has literally just ran out

Hi I just got a new Lenovo Yoga 710 14IKB today and i've been noticing that sometimes when I'm watching video's on Youtube the sound only starts playing after 5 seconds. So the video is already playing but the sound starts at 0:05 (the delay is always the same amount of time). I don't have this problem with every video, it seems to be a random thing and it only happens when watching videos on speaker, the problem does not happen when I'm listening through my earphones. It's not a major problem but it's still quite annoying. Is there a way I can fix this myself? I'm not realy knowledgeable when it comes to these kind of things, the only thing I know how to do is reinstall the drivers.

Hi, I am experiencing some issues with Lenovo Yoga 500. The laptop is pretty much brand new and I'm having a number of issue with it already. First of all the sound bar is stuck on the top left of the screen. Appears to be driver issue, however I have downloaded the most up to date audio drivers but still no success. The only way to get rid of the above issue is to disable the driver which then makes the laptop muted. There have been a few other reported issues of this type but no real definative answer. I am running on Windows 10 and have even reinstalled Windows but with no success. I can take the laptop back and have it sent to Lenovo however this is a hassle as it is used for work. I tried contacting Lenovo support who were absolutely no help at all. If anyone can help then it would be much appriciated. Thanks

Hey guys,I have a lenovo yoga 2 and ever since I got it two months ago, the speakers have been wonky. Occasionally when playing music / any sound, a static noise occurs and kind of temporarily pauses whatever sound I'm listening to. And once it starts to happen, it keeps happening. I don't know any other way to describe the noise other than a static sound of sorts. Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone have any solutions??? I feel desperate at this point and pissed that I was sold a computer at Best Buy with this issue.. I want to throw this laptop at a wall sometimes!

Sound was working when I went to bed, in the morning it wasn't.  Popup on speaker icon in system tray says "no audio output device is installed." Updated all drivers using iObit Driver scanner.  When that didn't find an audio adapter I rand the driver scanner on the Lenovo support site and it said no new drivers were needed.  Ran recovery from the startup and chose option to completely wipe the hard drive, files, progrmas etc. and install Windows 10 to factory settings - still no sound adapter. Saw a similar forum post with a link to a Reatek driver so installed it - no change.  Also followed instructions to uninstall sound in device manager but it wasn't there to uninstall. Ran Lenovo diagnostics from support site and it says there are no hardware problems and it sees sound adapter. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

Hey, my Yoga 710-14IKB is once again missing sound drivers after a windows update. I've navigated to http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/no/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-710-14ikb/downloads and located the latest audio driver for my laptop, which was released 20th of july in 2016. I've then installed the driver that I downloaded, restarted the PC, and still no audio drivers. I mouseover the sound icon in the Windows 10 task bar, and it says "No Audio Output device is installed". I right click this icon, select "playback devices" where I am greeted by the message "No audio devices are installed". I right click the text and ensure that both disconnected and disabled devices are shown, of which there are none. What do I do now? Edit: I've performed the system update scan on the same page as the driver downloads, and the only two drivers that are recommended that I install are "Connect2" and "Camera driver for Chicony - 10".

Hello all, I am having audio troubles with my Yoga 700-11ISK. It began when I noticed one day that I was not getting any sound out of the speakers. I would hear a crackling sound emitted from the speakers sometimes when I scrolled with the touchpad or the touchscreen. I do seem to be able to get sound when plugging in headphones (but the sound quality isn't good and there is static interference sound). Troubleshooting steps I have already taken: (Not listed in specific order, have retried many steps in different combinations) Static Discharge: I disconnected the AC power cord, turned off machine etc, then pressed down the power button and held for 30 seconds.Installed LSB: Conducted all diagnostic scans for hardware and software. I also implemented the suggested changes to my sound settings (i.e disabling sound effects, dolbi audio effects, etc)Downloading and reinstalling all firmware/software from Lenovo: Installed up to date BIOS updates, chipset, audio controllers, drivers, etc.Inspected the internals: MOBO, wiring. Hi, I just picked up my Yoga 2 13 a couple of days ago and every few seconds while it's running it makes this mechanical crackling noise. My version is i5 4th gen. with a SSHD @ 5400RPM. Because of this my bet is on the hard drive being the culprit as I can also hear a higher pitch sound in between, but at a much lower volume. It seems to be coming from the left side, which as far as I know is where the hard drive rests on this model. I'm kind of obsessive about details like this and with every machine I own I tend to investigate every sound and strange incident to make sure it's not a problem. So, can someone confirm that this is normal hard drive noise for the Yoga 2 13? I can live with it and swap it out for a SSD later on if that is the case.  Thank you!

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Dear readers,

I'm the owner of a toshiba l665D and there is a problem.
Every time i have to use something involving
sound it sounds rubbish.
The sound isn't played smoothly there are pauses and there is a big cracking
sound sometimes in it.

This is not because of the speakers, I have also tright it through the headphone tube.
Could this possilybe because of a damaged soundcard.

It's sound really rubbish and the laptop isn't even 2 years old yet.

What could it be?

Answer:Satellite L665D - sound isn't played smoothly - crackling sound

Hi

I think this is not related to faulty sound card but due to old iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) driver.

I found an thread about very similar issue.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=60231

Update of the iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) to version V10.1.0.1008 or higher should solve this problem.

I recommend trying this out!

I've been having issues since February's windows updates with crackling sound typically in DirectX games and some video playback such as Steam. In an effort to isolate the problem out I've gone over all my drivers and dust contamination yet again this month. I removed both the 3.51 and 4.01 Klite packs and the VLC player I had been using. Registry cleaned and defragged.

My sound card is an Audigy Fatality champion series with the front panel breakout box.

June 3 2009 driver for it #6.0.1.1373

Dxdiag attached as well.

Next on my list is to see if maybe there's new drivers for my tv tuner capture board which does have sound card resources apparently.

As a side note, I use Ventrilo daily. When ever I launch it after a fresh reboot and connect to a server it locks the PC up for like 90 seconds before behaving normally and displaying the MOTD. It's done this for maybe 6 months. Whenever I have bad game problems I can generally disconnect and reconnect from the vent server without that little annoyance. I want to lay the blame at DirectX, but I've tried several forced updates of it without any improvement.

Playing in the APB beta as well, and thru tips from those players disabled multimedia network throttling in the registry which improved in game performance there a ton.
I really do not want to reload this machine as it takes an eternity to get everything back the way I like it.

Hello, about 3 days ago i bought a sealed brand new HP OMEN 17-W03np which comes with Windows 10 Home (64-bit), i noticed there were some problems with the sound which have been a constant problem since day one. Before and after any sound plays there are these pops/crackling sounds that are noticable (and pretty irritating), the sound appears to play fine after it starts but in a few occasions the sound actually started breaking and there were random pauses while playing sound. There was also this one time the volume randomly went up and down on its own when pausing a sound (in this case it was a video) and then playing it again.Random pops/crackling have also happened while i was on my browser on web pages but there was no sound sources in the web page at all. I've attempted to use earphones while testing sound, and while using them the pops/crackling sound sometimes come out through the earphones, but sometimes they also come out through the notebooks built-in speakers despite the fact the sound is then played through the earphones (which i found pretty strange). This is my first experience with HP and i have to say i am feeling quite dissapointed, could this be a software problem or will i have to send my notebook back? I'd also like to point out that no major program/software installations have been done as this is a brand new notebook so most of the programs/software in it right now are the ones that come pre-installed with the notebook. I will a... But after installing Ubuntu and checked, the same problem repeated, but this time crackling sound started coming before the sound starts and after the sound ends. This is very irritating and after reading some articles about this problem, Some said the problem is due to interference(Not sure) of motherboard with soundcard. Can you please specify the source of this problem and a solution to it.Thanks In Advance

Hi folks,

Recently I was setting up a VPN client (PacketIX), and the setup wizard suggested some Audio/Video Streaming "Optimization" tweaks. I didn't pay attention and confirmed.

Since then, I often hear some crackling / popping noises. For instance, this systematically occurs when I Alt/Tab between a running game and my desktop.

An obvious guess is that the damn VPN client messed up some sound settings, but I can't figure out what to do.

I've found a good deal of DPC latency workarounds around here which I tried in vain.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Answer:[Sound crackling ] VPN client messed up my sound settings

Try a system restore to before you installed the VPN client. (System Restore)

Then reinstall the VPN client and don't let it fiddle with the audio settings.

I have a Yoga 3 Pro-1370 Laptop (Lenovo) - Machine Type 80HE bought earlier this year, have been having issues as the charger recently started making crackling noises, not sure if it is still ok to use. I tried accessing the Lenovo support online but the website says it cannot find my serial number so I cannot access suport there (even though the one I have entered is the same one on the bios and on the sticker on the back of the computer).

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

My motherboard is a PCCHIPS M848LU V1.2 http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m848lu.asp and the onboard sound is a C-Media AC97 (I don't know the exacts of it, but I think I can find out) It has up-to-date drivers

I just bought this comp from maincomp.com, its an AMD Athlon XP2600+, maxtor 30gig 7200rpm hd, 128mb ddr pc2100 ram (512 PC2700, whenever it gets here...) nvidia 128mb geforce4mx440, Windows XP Professional SP1a, 52x24x52x cd-rw..onboard NIC, onboard sound.

Anyway, whenever I play *most* (I say most because a few mp3s either from winamp radiostations or mp3s on my harddrive dont crack, but the sound quality is still alittle bad) it cracks some-what badly, some worse than others.. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and messing around with the settings, no help...everythings brand-new, so think it might be defective, or an hardware conflict? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Sound crackling, bad quality (onbored sound)

Well you could visit the PCCHIPS website and see if they have any updates for the Sound.

Also try another pair of speakers, could be bad speakers or a damaged cable/plug.

Thats a fairly nice machine, however you shouldn't have skimped on the motherboard - its one of the lowest end manufacturers of mobo's.

You may be better off by simple buying a PCI soundcard - I recommend a Creative Soundblaster - and disable the onboard sound. You'll get better quality sound and better performance in games.

In the last week, all sound on my laptop has started to crackle slightly. I changed headphones, but realized that thats not the problem. If i increase volume, the crackling gets worse, and distortion really sets in. Strange....only started happening last week. I have tried reinstalling my sound card driver, but no change there. Have looked around all my audio settings but cant find any clues. music etc is still listenable, but there is just a faint crackle constantly annoying me. and distortion if i turn the volume up louder.

Does this mean my sound card is wearing out?? or is it a physical prob inside?

my sound card is : Conexant AC link audio
i have windows xp home edition on a HP compaq nx4800

any help would be much appreciated!!

Hello,
I upgraded my Win XP to Win 7 like 1 month ago.
Downloaded all drivers (from their sites) updated them... then i open WMP 11 and start playing some music. After listening to that i heard some weird sound lag, I believe its called crackling. I searched on internet found some solutions, but none worked and none was for mine sound card.
This wasn't happening on Win XP.
Oh and if i have older version of driver it works way batter (only hear crackling when my cpu goes up to 1000MB (100%) ), but then my Microphone goes really quiet like I disabled microphone boost.

Hope you understand my problem.

Hi Everyone,

This issue has been going on for about a year now, both on 32 and 64 bit XP. My computer is around 3 years old, and no hardware has changed since then.

All my drivers are up-to-date, BIOS updates, software, patches, windows etc.

I have had lots of "theories" or "temp fixes" sent to me but in reality are not suitable.

When I play music (with any player) sometimes the sound crackles, to resolve the issue I have to pause then unpause the song and it stops for the duration of that song.

My Sound Card:

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 Sound Card - OEM (PCI-Express)

I have found lots of information, but non suitable.

Sound issues with crackling and popping
A number of owners of X-Fi cards have come to experience what is known as a constant popping and crackling noise during use of the cards. Creative has attributed the case to be NVIDIA nForce motherboards, however many other users who do not use these motherboards continue to experience the sound issues. Creative has not provided a fix as of yet for this

I have 680i SLI NIVDIA motherboard.. but none of the above fixes work.

There's tons of websites/webpages with people having the same problem.

Answer:Sound Blaster X-Fi [Sound issues crackling]

It's a bit hard to suggest without going through everything to see what you might have tried already (although I did have a look at your second link and a very quick look at the third). So please excuse if you have already tried the following, or if they seem too obvious (more hardware than software suggestions, as you have perhaps been trying mostly software, by the look of it).

It kinda sounds like something's deteriorating, and when you give it a moment to rest, it resets itself.

You haven't mentioned anything about your speakers (or headphones). Are they OK? Have you tried others, or tried yours in another computer? Can you try a USB speaker (if you haven't got that already)? How are the connections/cables/jacks?

Do you have an onboard audio driver you can try (ie take out the sound card)? Can you borrow a sound card to try?

Maybe it's a poor connection, including solder joint, in there somewhere. Hard to track down - have to try swapping things.

Is your problem confined to one medium (CD/DVD, stored audio files, downloaded music), or does it happen with all types?

Does it happen when you're eating Rice Bubbles? -D) (It's late, OK?)

Any possibility of interference from nearby electronics or electrical appliances?

Is your power supply unit OK? (Don't know why these last two items would be fixed by pausing the song, but I'm running low on ideas - maybe I'll stop here and let someone else have a go...)

Hello again. My computer ran pretty smoothly after i had restored it to factory settings after sleep mode fiasco. Last Friday however i faced another problem, my computer's audio on just about anything started crackling horribly, other than in my headphones, after restarting it, there is occassional crackling in audio, i have tried changing audio settings and installing latest updates for both Realtek and computer, but crackling is continuing. Sometimes it also appears in form of brief mutes. I have tried with no headphones and with other models but there is really something wrong with it and it's pretty hard to just ignore, what's the problem? I know this isn't caused by RAM overload or anything like that, i feel like the soundcard is corrupted in some way.

I have all the latest drivers installed on my P50, but I still hear pop/crackling sounds whenever some audio is playing, irrespective of the source. There's a thread here which addresses pop sounds when nothing is playing, so this is a different case. You might think this might me due to clipping as I'm overworking the onboard amplifiers, but this is not the case because even at very low volumes I still hear the pop/crackling sounds. It's the type of sound you hear from someone with a severe cold trying to clear his very clogged nostrils. It's really irritating having to hear it about 5 times every minute. The most weird part of it all is that if I reinstall the drivers, the pop/crackling sound disappears entirely. However, they return after 2 or more restarts. I only experience this issue when the onboard soundcard is being used because I don't notice the issue through my external dac + amp combo. Can someone help here ?

Hi guys! I have had this problem a lot of time ago... then I did a clean installation of win 10 and for a bit of time the problem seemed to be solved. My machine has been having a LOT of crackling sound in videos and music , especially on youtube since a couple of weeks and I don't know why. I did the update of bios yesterday and the crackling seemed to be even worse than before... what should I do? It's for sure a software problem. I have also tried the DPC latency checker and the back to the clean installation was working fine ; now it says I should have problems... before the value were always on the green level and now they are all yellow/red   https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8fd8FmXTIhVd2oxZG5tTmFzNmc/view?usp=sharing this is a link to the crackling I have. the sound is the same I hear, so it's not a problem of the mic I have used.  You can hear it very well at 16 seconds and so on....

I have a 6 month old Toshiba laptop. The other day I put in a dvd; it made a huge whirring noise (this might be totally irrelevant btw) and since then, when I play sound on my laptop, it crackles. I recorded myself on Audacity and that came out poor quality too. I'm not very good at describing it but obviously something has gone wrong. Would it be a damaged soundcard? It's bound to be under guarantee so that's not an issue but I would like to know what the problem is.

Question: Sound Crackling.

Hello all,
I have a refurbished Toshiba Satellite L650D laptop that I got exactly a year ago. Lately I've been having a problem where the sound goes crackly and even distorted when playing, and up until today I thought it was just me playing sounds too early because it would always go away a few minutes after start up.

Today it stayed around for 10 minutes, before I rebooted. After that it seemed normal at first, even the startup sound wasn't distorted, but about an hour later there is still at last some crackling in my music. It doesn't just happen with window's media player, but youtube as well and it first started to show up around october when I played Skyrim (I just blamed how much memory the game takes up).

I've tried disabling the enhancements (which seemed to be the solution for most others with this problem), I have done virus scans, I have even used the task manager to end some non essential processes that took up memory.

I have noticed in my searches that most reporting similar problems found it got WORSE the longer the computer was on, while in my case it's usually at its worst around startup.

this is really weird after my pc is on for a while like after i turn it back on from standby. My sound will be crackling when opening a file, program, website anything that uses cpu usage. Its more of a crackling sound like if i was moving around the plugs or something from the speakers. I know its not my soundcard because i tried another sound card. I put both of them in the same cab and i got about the same problem. After i restart my computer it seems to go away but i want to know whats the problem here.

Check to see if your speaker wires are near any power sources, and move them around. On a side note, you might want to read the rules and edit your signature accordingly.

Question: Sound crackling

Hi, A few days ago the sound on my Acer Aspire V3 - 772G, about 1 year old, started crackling and getting distorted. It doesn't matter if I'm using the laptop's speakers or my headphones, it's the same crackling noise. The noise doesn't start right away and isn't constant. This is however very annoying and frustrating. I did reinstall the audio driver but it made no difference.  I'm using Windows 8 if that matters. I'm really no good with technical stuff, please, I'd really really love to get some help here.

I'm been having trouble lately with my PC. Admittedly it is 5 years old, however I don't really have the money for a new one at the moment.

What is happening is that when I run a game that it has never had any problems with before often everything slows down and the sound starts to distort with a crackling noise. This has been most obvious in Race 07 when there is a full grid of cars around me. Everything practically stops at this point. Normally I would chalk it up to the computer not being powerful enough but it has never had this problem before in that game. It sometimes also happens when watching a HD Youtube video. Some less intensive games such as Super Meat Boy seem to be okay.

I have also had an occasional BSOD on startup, I took a photo which you can see here.

I have the system information from dxdiag here.

My guess is the graphics card is on it's way out but apart this everything else is fine so I am hoping there is a fix for this. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Crackling Sound and Lag

The BSOD is referencing nvlddmkm.dll - which is a nVidia driver file.

Go to Visual Computing Leadership from NVIDIA and update your GPU drivers for your card to see if that alleviates the issues.

Hi jpg, Welcome to the Forum.

It might be best if you visit your motherboard manufacturers website to download the drivers. They might not be the newest but could be specialized for your particular board.

Question: Sound crackling

Hi everyone,

For the past few months I've had a problem on my desktop PC, where for seemingly no reason after a few hours of being switched on, the sound will start crackling.

I'm using windows 7 service pack 1 as my OS, and at first i thought the problem was with windows but now I'm not so sure, as the crackling will also happen on my VM using win 7 pro, and also Ubuntu (the only 2 OS installed on my VM).although they are set to use the host audio.

I then began thinking it must be my speakers so i checked the connections, which seemed fine and them plugged in some headphones to listen for the crackling through them, and found the crackling was also happening throught the headphones so this must discount it being a problem with the speakers.

The crackling sound can best be described as like the sound of when one plays an LP and it kind of crackles at the start. It can get worse than that at times though where it will pop and can distort the music.

The crackling happens when i play youtube video's or if i listen to internet radio, or use Winamp or Windows media player, and sometimes even with windows system sounds such as when you click to go into a folder.

I'm using Realtek high definition audio and recently updated the drivers hoping this would fix it, to no avail.

So basically guys, i have no idea where to go from here, and was hoping people with far more knowledge than me could help me out, if you can I'd be eternally gratef... Read more

Question: Sound crackling...

So here is my problem,

I just got a new Win XP Media Center PC with 2 gigs RAM, 360 GB HDD, ATI Radeon video card etc.. I usually don't have many app's open at a time, but when I began playing the Sims I started using more RAM. The Sims 2 takes up about 550 MB of my PC's RAM. The sound on the game's sound crackles when the game is loading or if I am zooming in/out, even when I am clicking on items and giving commands. I tried EA tech support, but I then realized that the same sound crackling happens when I have many app's open using over 600 MB of memory.

I am using a Plantronics Gamecom Pro headset (USB). I tested the sound using a pair of stereo phone jack headphones, but the same crackling still happened.

What could be the problem? I checked all my sound codecs and everything seems to be working normally there.

Thanks everyone!

Question: Crackling Sound

Hi all,

Am new to the forums so please be patient with me!

My machine is fairly old but runs Windows 7 32Bit perfectly fine. In fact I was amazed to find all the hardware is picked up fine and runs nearly as fast as XP did.

Have been using it for some time without issues but recently the sound has become what I would describe as crackly and breaks up. It happens when Windows boots and it plays the little intro tune, then when I log on its fine. Then if I play a Quicktime movie trailer for instance it crackles or Youtube etc.

My MSI motherboad doesnt have any downloadable drivers for Windows 7 so its using whatever is the defaults.

I have tried changing the sound settings to different qualities and also reducing it from 5.1 sound to 2 channel stereo but to no avail.

To make sure its not a hardware fault I have reinstalled XP and also Ubuntu with no issues at all.

I then reinstalled Windows 7 and immediately the crackling returns which puzzles me as I ran Windows 7 for months without issues.

I have also tried changing the emulation in the BIOS from AC97 to Azalia but again to no avail.

Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

Many Thanks

Paul.

Hello, just wanted to say sorry for my poor english.
So... My sound has been crackling/popping in alot of games and not only , also for mumble and this kind of stuff, same with Skype.

I have read many forums about this but couldnt find solution , i have heard that "outdated drivers" might be the problem... but the thing is i dont know what sound card i have :\

I'm using Windows XP
Heres what i have in my "Device manager - Sound , video and game controllers"
- Audio Codecs
-Legacy Audio Drivers
-Legacy Video Capture Drivers
-Media Control Devices
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-VIA High Definition Audio
-Video Codes

And it happens even in games and things that used to sound fine , it all started happening after formating pc? I think

Please , help! Sorry if i didnt provide enghout info , please ask if u have any questions about my pc :\ and pardon my bad english once again

-NVIDIA High Definition Audio < are most likely the video card HDMI port audio drivers

-VIA High Definition Audio < should be a motherboard audio chipset and most likely the default audio chipset.

So i finally got windows 64 bit running rather smoothly...

unfortunately.. when I play music some of the songs crackle. (WMP)

I know this isnt interference, but seems to be a driver issue.. (so I think)
even tho the drivers are the latest version.

I plugged the speakers into the motherboard and they worked fine.

motherboard has got latest bios update (but that didnt fix the problem)

Ive looked for solutions, new drivers, fixes etc without any luck.

Ive googled this problem many times, but always find the wrong information or unanswered posts.

an example of the music crackling:

open WMP play a song, the song may crackle. if it does, press Pause, then click play, and the crackling will be gone.

Answer:Crackling Sound

how much ram does your pc have? if it's less than 256 on xp then that can cause this type of problem. if this is the case then you can go to www.blackviper.com and go through his tutorial on xp and that will help free up the ram. Also download latest drivers for your sound device. if you have onboard sound the drivers will be located on the manufactures site for the mainboard or pc if you have a namebrand ie dell, hp. If you installed a soundcard then you'll have to go to the soundcard manufacturer's site to get the latest set of drivers. you probably know where to find your driver's but I add this info just in case you do not.

Hello, Whenever I play a computer game (Starcraft 2 & Skyrim in this case) the audio on my 3-week old Lenovo Z70 "crackles." There is a popping sound that continues, even when the sound is turned down all the way. I tried the solution proposed here for another Lenovo laptop, by limiting the highest power settings for the computer: solution, but that did not work for me. I hear the popping and crackling through my headphones and also when it is simply playing through the speaers. Drivers for the Conextant audio and speakers say that they are fully updated.  Any help would be appreciated!

Bump - Anyone have any possible solutions here? It's been getting even worse when playing games (but not besides that). UPDATE: I uninstalled my the video card driver and while it still pops somewhat when playing games, the crackling is not nearly as consistent. The games are running on lower quality off the the on-board video card instead of the Nvidia 840M. C

Do I need to go back to where I bought the laptopor is this sound normal? Does any of you have it too? Thanks in advance. Regards, I. C.

Answer:Lenovo Y500 SLI - Crackling sounds (from HDD?)

I just went to the store, they said that it was normal since it's a spinning harddrive.

When ever I play Media player or any other media type of software, it works great!

Problem is: When I use Pinnacle TV Center Pro 5.30

All I get is Crackling Sound, when trying to watch a TV Channel

The sound output is in Mpeg Audio = Crackling Distorted Sound!

If I switch the sound output to AC3 Audio = Clear Tv Audio

Has anyone experienced this before, or do they have any suggestion that I might persue to resolve this issue? I've spoken to Pinnacle Tech's but no joy!

Thanks for any help, Bagof Wi (n.d)

Hi, I have had my X-540's for a a while but they have one problem. They make a crackling noise if the games audio settings are not turned down. It applies to everything really... Music, games, anything. I can't have winamp at 100% or else they crack and I was playing UT3 and the game's volume setting was at 60% and it was still cracking very bad at some times. I have a VIA HD audio card built into my ASUS M4A77D mobo. Driver version 6.0.1.7600 if that helps at all. One weird thing is that I cannot get it to utilize my 5.1 sound system properly. I have to keep it on 2.1 sound to make it sound the closest to normal. (I still have 5.1 sound) Really starting to not like VIA..

Hey there. Some music programs I use the music comes out distorted, cracking when using features. I tried everything, update, reinstall previous drivers etc.Dunno whats wrong. I have an on-board sound card AC'97.Can someone give me a suggestion why its happening?

Answer:Sound Crackling in some programs.

It sounds like the on-board sound card is on its way out, sound cards are pretty cheap. You should be able to pick one up for less than a tenner, of course that depends on the quality of the sound card that you want.

Hi, I have a Dell pc with the original sound card (crystal pnp). I have run the troubleshooter on the help under start. No conflicts with anything and it has the latest updated drivers.

Does anyone know of any other way to troubleshoot this to see if the sound card is defective? The speakers are not the problem because they are new and i tested them on another source.

Thanks for any help anyone can advice.

Answer:sound crackling on right speaker

One thing you might try : Go Start > Run > type DXDIAG and then select Audio from the top of the interface that appears. And then try adjusting the Hardware Acceleration slider up / down.

hi folks i hope you can help me.

so i have been messing around with my pc over the past couple of days and seemed to have done something. i have been playing the RMclock, undervolting my cpu which seems to be going great, but also i have been in services.msc disabling bits and bobs i dont need. so i didnt disable anything major but i my sound is crackling. it only crackles it seems when itunes is maximised on the screen, if i minimise it to the bar then crackling stops. also it crackles a little bit when i minimised anything else or highlight a button or something graphics related. when i slide the volume slider in the task bar up and down it crackles very softly.

weird. so any ideas what i might have done? i have turned off all underclocking software and reset my cpu to its normal power and speed. no change. no gpu clocking on either.

thanks in advance.

Answer:sound crackling in vista

update: i have found that disabling desktop window manager starts the crackling, enabling fixes this. does anyone know why this happens? dwm.exe is a drain on resources so i would rather not use it.

It seems that ms has not been able to get the audio portion of windows audio to work properly under windows 10!. Ever since I installed the upgrade; Ive had very very low/faint sound with crackling noises to boot. Why is it so darn hard for ms to get their crap together when it comes to getting sound cards to work with windows 10? I never had these sound card issues with my sound blaster x-fi titanium pci express sound card under windows 7. What the heck gives here?

Answer:Very faint/crackling sound

My computer speakers have started crackling and popping like it is amplifying static. I haven't blown the speakers, because I have tried several different sets of speakers and gone through my stereo. All setups have the static. It seems to be an issue with the sound card or the computer. It isn't any of my wires to the speakers, as I have gone from the sound card directly to the speakers. Could it be static electricity from the winter being so dry? I've never experienced this in the winter before though. what can i do to diagnose and fix the problem? Thanks!
