Lenovo Twist - Touchpad, Trackpad not working and ...

Question: Lenovo Twist - Touchpad, Trackpad not working and ...

Hello all, 3 days ago, on June 14, the touchpad on my Twist s230u stopped working. No apparent reason for this (tried to undo windows updates / system restore but did not help). The trackpad is not working also. Another thing - when the computer does a full shutdown and restart from the beginning (i.e. with the possibility of accessing the BIOS with Enter at the first screen), the keyboard is not working. I have to power the computer down once more and restart it. I'm running Windows 8.1, 64 bit. I tried to reinstall the new synaptic drivers but it did not help. Thank you in advance for your ansers. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad. For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).  I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly. After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything. I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine). Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.  I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem? The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you) Thanks a bunch,Amanda

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

Go into the BIOS (press F1 during the initial bootup) menu then go into CONFIG -> Keyboard/Mouse -> Disable both the TrackPoint and Touch Pad -> press F10 to save and exit.

Hi guys, I am trying to maintain my doughter's school aptop but encountered something exceding my limited expertise. Since about 10 days the touchpad, buttons and the red thingie stopped working. I have read all the forum issues, uninstalled the drivers and re-installed new ones (first through the lenovo sulotion centre, then the synaptics generic version). About 6 times now. That didn't work. It says "component not present, not working correctly or divers not fully installed, error 24" (translation from Dutch, probably used some incorrect terms).Running windows 10 on this t420. All worked fine untill this happened. I saw that some new mouse drivers have been installed around the day of malfunction but can't find how or where to remove those (still getting used to this windows 10).Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

So far, there's just 2 of us with trackpoint / touchpad problems as a result of installing Windows 10.  My post:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T420-Win-10-Pro-Ultra-Nav-19-00-12-61-Tr... I've combed through this forum and have no one else reporting these same issues; most are reporting that left and right click buttons are working, but the middle button did not work.  In my case, it was the opposite; the middle button scrolled (albeit very choppy), and the left / right buttons were dead.for my Trackpoint.  It's not a hardware issue, as all buttons function as normal in Win 7, but upon installation of Win 10, the buttons do not work.  I went so far as to do a clean install of Win 10 to ensure there were no conflicts between Win 10 and any leftover Win 7 system files, only to end up with the same old left and right button problems. So until the Ultra Nav drivers to enable full functionality of trackpoint / touchpad device, the only solution is to use a physical mouse or revert back to your prior operating system.

I've installed the latest version of Synaptics UltraNav driver 16.2.19.2, and checked that the action of two finger tap is configured to right click (which is alleged to be configered so by default). But right click never hanpens when I perform a two finger click. Same problem with three finger click. Another issue, when I turns on momentum, one finger tap often jumps elsewhere.Hope you can help me fix the problem. Machine: twist 3347

It is unclear exactly when the problem began, but there was a windows 10 update, then a bios update shortly before I noticed the problem.   The touchpad behaves erratically, selecting/unselecting or inserting text at a rate that does not allow control of intended tapping actions.  Pointer features seem to work fine, erratic behavior involves tapping only.  I believe the bios is the most current version, and I have updated the touchpad driver.  It is not clear to me whether there is an issue with the bios or touchpad driver installation or software, or if the touchpad has failed.  Looking for help to figure out how to resolve the issue.

Today my x201 has lost all trackpad and touch pad function.   Hard disk constantly running.   No restore points listed to help remove the problem.   Everything works okay in Safe Mode.   Rebooting several times has not helped. Could this be related to the Microsoft Bad KB.......69 update? I have not installed any new software recently. I can only use the pen to access menus.    How can I remove recent KB installations using just the pen? Hope someone can help me soon Update:   I have managed to remove the bad MS update but to improvement.   Next I added a new user (also set as administrator) and the trackpad and touch pad function is now working normally but only with the new user account. Would someone tell me if I can remove my own Administrator Account and what effect this will have,  i.e. what data might I lose?   Can I save data and reinstall it to a new account?

Answer:Trackpad and touchpad not working

Hi Beemer,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that trackpad and touchpad is not working properly in your Lenovo ThinkPad X201.

Since the devices work fine in safe mode, probably a corrupted driver is causing the issue. Go to control panel -> Device manager, uninstall the drivers listed under Mice and other pointing devices. Restart the system and let Windows install the generic drivers for the device. Check if the trackpad and touchpad works fine now. Later, you may download the drivers from Lenovo Support page and install them. If you have any difficulties in finding the driver, please share the MTM number of your device.

Click here to understand how to transfer files and settings from one user account to another with administrator rights.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hello all Since 2 days my touchpad (inclusive the buttons) and my trackpad aren't workinig anymore. They are enabled and in the device manager under "mice and other pointers", there is no touchpad to be found. Do you have any idea what could have caused this problem? Thank you very much!

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

This is a new Lenovo twist S230u 3347-4hu. The only way I got the trackpad mouse to work is by loading Synaptics 16.2.15.0 driver. Otherwise the touchpad mouse would not respond. Now - and before I changed the driver - what happens is after a keyboard key is pressed, the onscreen keyboard will not work. It tries to open then immedialtely closes and the volume control automatically goes to zero as if a key were being pressed to lower the volume. A volume control appears on the top left of the screen. This happens in notebook and tablet modes and only after a keyboard key is pressed.I have reset the system to oob defaults with no luck. I also updated  the BIOS.I noticed that the older Synaptics driver does not have full gesture controls. (Don't know if that matters)I never lose touchpad mouse functionality with the older driver.Restarting the unit brings everything back to normal - even can set the volume control - until a keyboard key is pressed. When I restart I can use the onscreen keyboard without any problems.Once the problem happens, I cannot remove the onscreen volume control and I cannot use the onscreen keyboard. If I install the original touchpad driver, I lose the mouse too.

Answer:Twist touchpad not working after a keyboard key is pressed

Hi ggmoon52,

How long have you had your twist and how long has this problem been going on?

You said the touchpad does not malfunction with older drivers.
Meaning after you get the touchpad operational the onscreen keyboard and volume malfunctions...right?

What BIOS and UltraNav versions are you running?

Here is a link to the latest Synaptic driver version 16.2.19.2

Restore back to factory settings, then update the driver to this version.
If unsuccessful, update BIOS to 1.07 then update UltraNav.
Try that and lets see how that works.

Hey guys, I'm having problems with the touchpad buttons: the system can't distinguish a left click from a right click. Whenever I click one of the two buttons the system reads it as if I'm clicking on both and keep pressing. I tried also to disable them and use the trackpad but also those buttons are not working well. They just work for a couple of minutes and then they stop. However if I run the Thinkvantage suite they seem to work fine and the system reads the click properly. What do you think is wrong? Thanks

Answer:Touchpad and Trackpad Buttons not Working

Today I noticed both my touchpad and joystick stopped working.  I could move the cursor but the clicks would not register.  I restarted and it worked again.  I recall a couple of days ago I updated the drivers, one of them I think was for the touchpad.

HI All I am in need of help please i have a X1 Carbon that was Recently purchased for a user at our office. But as you can tell from the subject of this topic the touchpad and trackpad stops working working after a few minutes of working on the machine.  I used Lenovo System Update to update all the drivers to the latest version and this was not successfull, I then tried a reinstall  of windows and the manually downloaded the driver from lenovo website and installed it but still no luck. I have checked and they are not disabled in the Bios and they are not and the Bios is on the latest version I have also tried to let it run on the windows driver that downloads from windows but also it stops working. from what it looks like the trackpoint and touchpad disable cause when i go into the mouse properties the option to enable them both is greyed out i then log on as the local admin to see if it is a permission thing but it is also greyed out. This happens regardless if the machine is on battery or plugged inThis user travels  alot and needs them both to be working.  I came across the below forum but i dont see much of a response from lenovo.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-touchpad-and-trackpad-stops-working...

Unfortunately, the trackpad and touchpad of my T460p stop working intermittently. The problem seems to occur after the laptop is going into hibernation. When it boots up afterwards, neither the trackpad nor the touchpad or the mouse buttons work, and the device manager shows the Synaptics device having a hardware issue. The problem persists when rebooting the system and even when using a different operation system (e.g. Ubuntu via a Live USB). I tried upgrading the Synaptics drivers (v19.0.19.1), which does not solve the problem though. I also tried different driver versions (e.g. the ones offered on the Lenovo site), without success. I encountered this problem both on Windows 10 Home & Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, as well as various Linux flavors (Ubuntu, Fedora). The only workaround that I found is to shut down the laptop, remove the battery and reboot it afterwards, which seems to reset the faulty state the touchpad is in. I strongly suspect that this is a problem with the firmware of either the mainboard or the Synpatics device itself, which puts it into an invalid state when going into hibernation. For now, I disabled hibernation mode, which avoids the problem but is not ideal of course. Did someone else run into this problem? Any ideas how to permanently fix this? I'm very happy with the T460p otherwise but this problem just drives me crazy as it's impossible to use a laptop without touchpad/trackpad when traveling.

The trackpad and touchpad of my Yoga stops working: the cursor freezes and after a while disappears from screen. Once the cursor is gone it does not appear again, even after a clean reboot. I have tried to enable it via the Control Panel Mouse settings or Input section of ?Lenovo Settings? application but had no success.
The problem has happened several times so far, always after the laptop sleeps due to inactivity. The only way I have found so far to bring the trackpad and touchpad back is by going to the BIOS settings and restoring the default configurations (I have never changed the BIOS settings on this PC, so I can?t figure out why this solves momentarily the problem).

Any ideas on why this problem is happening, and how to solve it without messing with the BIOS settings?

This is becoming really annoying, it has happened three times since yesterday (10/23/15).

My BIOS version when this first happened was 1.26 (GQET46WW), my current BIOS version is 1.27 (GQET47WW). My laptop runs Windows 10 Pro (automatically updated from the Windows 8.1 version delivered with the laptop).

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. After only two minutes of use, the trackpad and toucphpad stopped working. I hade to use an external mouse, and even after all driver updates it still didn`t work. If I restart the machine, sometimes the track-touchpad will work, but suddenly it freezes up again (after only minutes of use), and I will have to restart to fix the problem. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.  Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?     //alex

Good evening, Every now and then, after using the laptop for a while, or getting it from sleep mode, the touchpad simply quits working as it should. Clicking by simply tapping the pad stops working, and clicking by really pushing in the trackpad itself will only activate either right or left click. Sometimes it even quits working at all. After rebooting the device the issues will be over, which makes me think it is some sort of a software issue. Also every now and then, while working in my student room, my laptop loses its internet connection. While there are many Wi-Fi signals in my student room-complex, it can't detect any of them. Then, after waiting for some time and rebooting the device once or twice, the connection will get restored, and all the other signals are back as well. Both issues aren't very huge, yet very annoying when working on a paper or so. Especially since I bought the laptop a little longer then two months ago, assuming due to it's price and the ThinkPad?s reputation (being able to stop a bullet and yet still work) this is a huge disappointment Anyone who has a solution for me for either one of these problems? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo W540 randomly loses Wifi connections and its trackpad/touchpad often doesn't work

I have also noticed some wifi problems on the W540. I have the Intel AC7260, and occassionally, it stops working - reporting a driver problem. When this happens, it is not working at all and cannot scan for available wifi networks - exactly like you report. However, if I do a quick uninstall and scan for hardware changes within device manager, normal operation is restored, without having to reboot repeatedly. After a while, it will stop working again - this is not too frequent, however. I assume it is a dirver problem.

When scrolling with the index finger on my right hand I will regularly hover over and lightly touch the left button with my left index finger in anticipation of the link/button/text box etc that I am about to click on. I have always done this an never encoutered any issues on the numerous laptops I have owned and used in the past). When I do this on my newly axquired Lenovo Yoga 900 it causes the mouse pointer to lag momentarily. I have updated drivers (v19.0.17.57), I have turned off ALL Multi-Finger options (2-finger, 3-finger and 4-finger) and reduced Palm Tracking to the minimum. Is this behavior isolated to me, or are other experiencing the same behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Basically what is stated above. The driver appears to disable my ability to use the trackpad while I am holding a key. Like if I were to hold W (if I were playing a game) the trackpad does not function. I looked through the trackpad settings to see nothing that could disable it other than palm settings (which did nothing when screwing with the slider). I contacted customer service via phone but to no avail. If you know a way to help me fix this issue that would be great. Cheers.

Hi all, I just fixed my y510p from video artifacts due to a loose video cable connection, but when I put everything back together, my trackpad no longer works, and in device manager, I had an unknown device listed that was not there before. Anyone else had this problem, or have any ideas on how to fix it? Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon 3rd Gen Trackpad stop working

Hi sarachaib0680, Sorry to hear about your trouble.

Why not have Lenovo fix it under warranty? My experience with depot repair in the USA is good - usually 3 days if the part is in stock. You can remove the SSD before sending.

Otherwise if the TrackPoint is not working, look for a connector cable which is not properly seated.

Hope this helps!

Hello. I am starting to have some trouble with my trackpad. Every once in a while (and there is no rhyme or reason as to when or why it happens) the trackpad on my Thinkpad Twist loses a lot of its functionality.  It never stops working completely, but two finger scrolling, swiping from the top to see menus and swiping from the left to change windows stop working.  Resetting the machine does not fix the problem - it will only start working again on its own time.  This is really frustrating because when the trackpad doesn't behave properly, Windows 8 is much more irritating to use. Does anyone else have this problem or know of a fix?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Twist S230U Touch Screen Not Working

Hello,

A few questions, in no particular order:

Are these new ThinkPad Twist S230u's?  Refurbished ones?  Old ones?
Can you let us know the machine type from the bottom of the unit(s)?  That's the part on the label that looks like 4321-XYZ (not the serial number, though --please don't post that online)
Did you purchase them directly from Lenovo?  If not, where did you get them from?
What operating system(s) are the S230u's running?

With the answers to those questions, I'm sure some of the forum members will be able to assist you in troubleshooting this further.

I got my Lenovo Yoga 710 in the summer of 2016, and everything works great except for the inactive scrolling. The inactive scrolling only works when I have an external mouse attached to my laptop, in which I am able to type in one window while scrolling in another window that's inactive. However, the inactive scrolling doesn't seem to work when I am using my trackpad and not an external mouse. I have updated all of my drivers, but I just don't understand why the feature would work only with the external mouse and not the trackpad. It is rather inconvenient to carry around an external mouse when the trackpad is supposed to do the job. I am coming from a Macbook Pro and I really miss the inactive scrolling that it provided.  I would really appreciate it if someone could please help me. Thanks! P.S. I do not have any third party software installed and the inactive scrolling feature is "enabled."

I had been excited about my planned purchase of Lenovo's Thinkpad s230u Twist until today.  I have purchased Thinkpad laptops for the last 7 years, I LOVE THEM!  I purchased an Ideapad G510S for my daughter's birthday from the Outlet store in July 2014 and received it with a non-working touchscreen, not a big problem. After troubleshooting it with techsupport it was determined to be a hardware issue.  My daughter didn't request a touchscreen in the first place so we decided to forego the hassle of setting up a return, waiting, then setting up another computer.  When contacting Customer Service (?) they wouldn't even reimburse the price difference for the identical machine sans touchscreen feature which only came to around $30.  On top of that, I'm also a Working Advantage member.  This has unfortunately left me with a bad taste in my mouth.  The poor service today will make me rethink my decision; my R61 has been an amazing machine and will have to hold out a little longer while I find comparables.  Does anyone have suggestions on a comprable convertible to the s230u i5?  How about the Yoga also with i5, which was to be the next purchase in the next few weeks for my older daughter? I would miss most of all the trackpad "Nurple" as it was affectionately named in my home.

My trackpad and trackpoint worked fine under Windows 8.1, but since I updated to Windows 10 they have gone haywire.  The cursor moves in the opposite direction from the movement on the trackpad or trackpoint.  If I move my finger right on the trackpad, the cursor on the display moves left.  If I move my finger up, the cursor moves down.  Sometimes the cursor moves in the correct direction, but then it goes to the opposite direction after a single tap.   I have tried two different driver versions for the Synaptics Thinkpad Ultranav driver for Windows 10 - 19.0.16.0 (driver date 7/9/2015), and 19.0.12.61 (this version is currently available for download on the Lenovo s230u driver download page).  The 19.0.12.61 is the lower version number but it is listed as dated 7/30/2015.  I have had the problem described above with both versions.  I ran "Update Driver" from Device Manager and 19.0.16.0 was installed over 19.0.12.61.   I tried deleting the Synaptics driver altogther, and rebooted - after i reinstalled a driver the problem came back. Has anybody else had this problem since upgrading to Windows 10?  Has anybody found a fix?

My twist has an issue with the trackpad. It has a clickpad and the lower part of it isn't very stable and can be pushed down easily and wobbles a bit. When I apply slight pressure to the bottom especially the left corner, it clicks, and sometimes even double or tripple clicks. Evem if I disable tapping this occurs so it is an issue with the clickpad. Its like not pressing down and feeling the click, just slightly touching the bottom so that the plastic goes a little bit downwards and it clicks twice even. This is extremely annoying. Overall I must say the touchpad of this computer feels very very cheap and sub par. Even my HP and ASUS netbooks have smaller but functional trackpads. Also when using the trackpad buttons at the bottom, the cursor will move slightly while pressing down the clickpad. Is there a mechanism or something that I can move in place below the touchpad to fix this?

Answer:Extremely annoying trackpad issue on Thinkpad Twist s230u. HELP

This is highly frustrating e.g whenever I click on a youtube video to pause, it goes into full screen due to double click. And please no one mention rubbish about drivers, its a hardware fault. And I'm away from the US for a long time on work in Africa there is no lenovo representative here.

I am experiencing an annoying problem - my trackpad stopped working. I have narrowed it down to a driver issue. Because if i uninstall the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav"-driver the trackpad starts working. As soon I install it again it stops. I have tried rebooting and it's no difference. When the driver is installed I cannot even the "Mouse" dialog in control panel.  I have tried the latest drivers: 18.0.7.40 as well as the previous driver. Same result. I have downloaded the drivers through the website as well as with Lenovo support app.  My model is the new X1 Carbon, model: 20A7005UM5 not even 2 weeks old. It worked until yesterday. The only thing done since is the regular update by Windows 8.1. I even tried a system restore before the updates but now there is no difference.  I want to point out that, when driver is uninstalled, the trackpad works, but without all the functionality. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Regards,Jan

Hello! Problem description:Month 1 of ownership (win 8 preinstalled):Touchpad suddenly stops working completely but i manage by using external usb mouse. Month 2 of ownership (win 8 preinstalled):Keyboard stops working randomly from time to time, the keys are just dead and this is solved by rebooting or going into sleep mode and waking up again, sometimes it does not get fixed in first attempt and have to repeat until it does. When this problem occurs is completely random, sometimes after just chilling in the pre-login screen of windows and sometimes just using the computer inside windows. Troubleshooting so far:I recently upgraded to windows 10 and have make sure to install all the latest drivers from http://support.lenovo.com/ that is made for win 10 (inc the touchpad driver) ... this does not help the touchpad is still dead.  I have the touchpad icon in the bottom right corner and if i right click it and go into touch-pad settings and look inside the "ELAN" tab there is nothing in the device list. If i check windows device manager there is no "unknown" devices or anything like that and under "Mice and other...." there is only "HID-compliant mouse" ... Is this a faulty lenovo hardware situation? Should i return the computer?

My notebook is runnning Windows 10, and the touchpad has not been working well recently. I can use the touchpad to left click and select multiple items in the past, however this cannot be done now. The right click of the touchpad is not working too. I used to right click a link and select "open in new tab" in the past but now cannot. Either the left click or right click of the touchpad are not working well. I would be grateful if my problem can be fixed. Thank you!

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers enabling and disabling hardware, restarts etc. But the touchpad does not work. The exact problem is that the touchpad has only some sensitivity on the left side and the click buttons work. but from left onward (center and right ) there is no sensitivity and no response. ( And no, no fluids of any kind or anything else has been spilled)The laptop runs Windows 8.1 which came preloaded.I  bought this from U.S but currently am in PakistanPlease help ASAP

I have also downloaded and installed v.15.5.6 of the Intel My WiFI Dashboard (however it shows v.15.5.0 in "about").My problem is that most, if not all of the options for "My WiFi Dashboard" are not present. hi Prathibha,

Welcome to the Lenovo forums!

YES,
I would consider as my first step on throubleshooting this.

Open Device Manager and under Mice and Gaming controllers, Rightclick and Uninstall the Synaptics or ELan touchpad,
Restart the system and Install the driver back,

Windows 7
Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan)

Windows 8
Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan) for 64-bit Windows

Windows 8.1
Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan)

Let me know your findings
Regards

The touchpad is not working.
I reinstalled Touchpad drivers from Lenovo website and it didnt help. I also
installed the Synaptics latest drivers but that didnt help either.

I reinstalled Windows 7 but that didnt help. Installed Windows 8, That didnt help either.

Clicking "Mouse" on "Control panel". gives me the message " Unable to connect to Synaptics Pointing Device Driver"

I'am currently using an external mouse. I also uninstalled the external mouse, rebooted, but Touchpad didnt work.
At some point the touchpad did work for a few minutes then stops working again. I also checked the touchpad connector and its all well connected

Any ideas?

Hi there, Nmparmar          -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Can you try to:
Make sure you use the original 65W 20V/3.25A or 90W 20V4.5A AC adapter that came with the unit.

Plug the AC adapter in another wall outlet in your house (preferrably another side of the house) - if this works, the original wall outlet that you used before when you got the issue may not be properly grounded.

Perform a power drain by:a turning the PC OFF. Remove the battery & AC adapter then hold the power button for 30secs. When done, reinsert the AC adapter and battery then boot into the BIOS by pressing F2. When inside the BIOS, press F9 to reset default settings and press F10 to save and exit.

Update the Touchpad Driver below:

Update us how it goes.

Dear all, The touchpad of my 2013 Lenovo B590 has suddenly stopped working. I tried rebooting the system, installing and uninstalling both the new Synaptics and older Elan drivers, but no luck so far. When I try to install the Synaptics drivers a message pops up, saying 'Synaptics device not found!'. I  checked device manager and the BIOS, but the touchpad does not show up in both of them. Could this be a hardware failure? Any suggestions on what to do?Much obliged.

Hello I bought a Lenovo E51-80 for my mother in law a few weeks ago.  I updated the Drivers and Windows, removed some of the Levono software, installed various software and then following the install iTunes and iCloud, then restarted, and the Keyboard and Touchpad stopped responding, apart from the Brightness Hotkeys and another Hotkey. When I put the PC into Safe Mode, the keyboard worked fine, but when I booted into Windows again it didn't.  I also tried Bios, but there wasn't any options relating the Keyboard and Touchpad.  I then did a System Restore to a point before I installed iTunes and this got it working again. It has since happened again a number of times, and I though it might have been a Windows Patch or something I installed, but I'm not so sure now and it seems to happen following a restart, and more frequently following a install and restart. I have also reinstalling the Driver for the Lenovo pointing device, but this didn't work, and each time, the system restore gets the Keyboard and Touchpad working again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So there's a huge thread, set to sticky as many people have had trouble with their touchpads turning off, quite randomly at that.  It's a wonder Lenovo hasn't got the point and fixed it yet.  Anyway, NONE of the solutions worked for me.  Except one guy mentioned something, and I realized he was completely right!. What I did try:Turn on and off the touchpad to reset it.Install a new Synaptics Touchpad driver.Write customer support.Did a little chant, dance, and jig.No luck  What WorkedI relized that it was hardware, and the guy had mentioned how he had a loose connection.  When I press down pretty hard on the mouspad, and/or keyboard, it generally starts working again. (with full palm for most surface area, as I'm still not quite sure exactly where that point of contact is).  I took apart my laptop, and didn't have much luck fixing it.  Partly because I wasn't able to easily access the connection between the touchpad and motherboard (I'm using the edge e420.  On my r52, that connnection was easy to access.)  And I couldn't confirm that the connection between the keyboard and motherboard was entirely unrelated.  Anyway, I need to look at the manuals and figure out how to get to that connection, but for now, pressing down on the touchpad/keyboard does the trick.  "What it comes to computers, anything its possible.  It's just a matter of how."

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge Touchpad - Not working

I feel like my head is going to explode.  I've searched the forum and read what seems like hundreds of complaints about the touchpad not working on the Thinkpad Edge.  I've had my Thinkpad E420 for a week and the touchpad does not work but the pointer device does . . .  I don't mind updating or installing . . . whatever. . . . but it seems that this had been unsuccessful most of the time.  I'm a 50-something year old woman who is fairly computer-savvy (so I thought).  I researched laptops for two months before I bought -- came down to the Lenovo and Toshiba.  I picked the Lenovo b/c of what I hoped would be good durability.  My hubby said take it back to the store (I have about a week left to do this).  He is an HP computer-person (I don't care for HP).  All things considered, if I could have afforded it,  I would have bought a Mac   Is there anything new with this problem or am I'm just going to fall into the same rabbit hole as everyone else?  Thx.

hi Reversal,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If the touchpad suddenly stopped working, try to:

1. Turn off the computer and remove the AC adapter and battery.
2. Hold the power button for 30secs and re-insert the AC adapter and battery.
3. Turn the computer ON and press F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in, press F9 to reset the settings to factory and press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
4. After booting back to the OS, uninstall the current touchpad driver (requires a reboot), then re-install the Touchpad Driver (requires a reboot).

I noticed that the Synaptic Touchpad driver (I updated to the latest version) would stop functioning whenever I do a hard drive-intensive task. For example, When I run a virus scanner, when I convert movies, when I record anything, the Synaptics driver stops working. I can still use the touchpad, but all of the original driver features are gone and the icon from the taskbar dissappears as well. Stranger still, whenever something like this happens, I try to go into mouse properties in the control panel and it ALWAYS becomes completely unresponsive and freezes up. I cannot do anything with the touchpad control panel either. When I stop whatever I am doing to the hard drive, everything goes back to normal and the Synaptics touchpad driver re-enables and appears in my taskbar again. Help?Thanks!-Clark

Answer:Windows10 (64-bit) - Lenovo Z50-70 Touchpad stopped working

Hi there, Sohailur                    -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Just found the same problem with my lenovo Z50. Touch pad completely non responsive.

Under start menu, settings, devices, mouse & touchpad, additional mouse options, elan tab. The elan touchpad settings were completely grayed out and unavailable.

So from there I went to the window search in the task bar and typed in "computer management? and opened the computer management desktop app. Under device manager selected mice and other pointing devices and then elan input device. In the elan properties window that opened I selected uninstall to uninstall the driver and in the next box that opened warning that the driver was about to be uninstalled l checked the delete driver and then OK. Then restarted windows. In the process of restarting windows detected the elan touchpad as a new device and installed the driver in time for the login screen. So my elan touch pad is now working again.

Here is the link to download the Lenovo Windows 10 driver for the touchpad from our support site.  -> TouchPad Driver Windows 10

Update us how it goes.

I bought this laptop last december and there was nearly no problem (everything was working fine) about it until recently. I always use it only at home with a keyboard and mouse attached to it because of what I do and I find it easy not using the touchpad and keyboard of the laptop. I only use them occationally. Recently I brought it with me and I was surprised neither the keyboard or the touchpad is not working. I searched the forums and I cannot find any posts that was the same as my case. I also searched drivers for both and installed them but nothing happened. When I installed the driver for my touchpad it said that there was no driver to be updated. I looked to my control panel then in the mouse properties, and the synaptics pointing device isn't there anymore. There I started to think that it's a hardware problem. I'm wondering why is it a hardware problem as I rarely use them. Now I could still use my laptop normally with a keyboard and mouse attached. I really need to get this fixed as soon as possible because I'm going to need it for school. If it's not fixed here then I'm probably going to a service center to report about the issue. Thank you in advance and have a great day!

Answer:Lenovo Z400T touchpad and keyboard not working

Hi Dyisi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that the Touchpad device is not detected in your computer even after trying to re-install its driver. Hence, the only available option to confirm if the issue is hardware related by performing OSRI (Operating System Re-Installation).

NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OSRI, as the data will be completely erased.

Hope to hear back soon

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

I got my screen replaced a few weeks ago and when I got my laptop back my touchpad was not working. It would work on and off but everytime I turned of my laptop and turned it back on the touchpad would stop working. I tried a few things like updating my laptop and troubleshooting and it would get my touchpad to work for a little bit but then it would just stop working again. Its now not even showing up in the device manager. I don't know if it's a dirver issue with windows 10 or if something happened when my screen was being replaced. I tried looking on the lenovo website for downloads but I don't see any windows 10 touchpad downloads for this laptop model. HELP. I have a mouse that plugs into my usb but i'd really like my touchpad to work again.

First off, I'm going to say this laptop was a Christmas gift from a friend. I do not have ANY computers in this house aside from this one. I use this laptop for blogging and listening to music as well as job hunting, however, it will not register the keyboard or touchpad at all. I called Customer Support and the best answer they could give me was to bring it back to the store I got it from--this was an incompetent answer to the problem. I have tried touching and holding the power button for 15 seconds and when it restarts, the problem is not fixed. None of the keys are working. Period. I have a mouse for a gaming computer, however, I do not have a keyboard to plug in to use. If I could get a response to this, that would be GREAT!!! I cannot log in or do anything with my lap top right now and am currently stuck doing things from my cell phone.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 700 14ISK (ideapad) with Windows 10 64bit, whose keyboard and touchpad are refusing to work.Everything else seems to be running smoothly except for these. I initially was getting by via the on screen keyboard until I began borrowing an external wireless one. The following is what I knowReset to factory settings did not work.Optimizing OS in BIOS is enabled already (enabling this was suggested by Lenovo Support)THE ARROW KEYS WORK IN BIOS (??!???!?)An external keyboard works (I have used two different Logitech keyboards and both work)Before I sign in, FN+Space seems to work thus (re)activating my backlight. Once I sign in, it stops working. There's no updates for the keyboard driver.I have already tried to uninstall the driver, restart the laptop, and allow it to reinstall the driver.Disabling ymc did not help.F6 does not re-enable the touchpad.I tried a couple button combinations I've seen around for people disabling/enabling keyboards, but none worked. (Willing to try more though!!!) Any ideas? I thought it may be a hardware problem, but since the arrow keys work in BIOS; I'm not confident that this is the case.

I recently bought a Lenovo G4070 (just some days ago) and I recently realized that my touchpad is acting weird. When I select some Drop Menu (from Microsoft Edge, for exemple) or when I right-click in Windows to select some option, whenever I start using the touchpad, the menu disappears, acting like I clicked out. And sometimes when I click in quick sucession, the touchpads "locks" itself in clicking and don't stop util I make another movement. I don't know if that's is how it's suppposed to work, but I would like to know, because it's kinda bad, since I can't work properly with my new notebook.

Hello, I have purchases this laptop 4 months ago and everything has been working fine. However today when I turned the laptop on, the touchpad was unresponsive. I have not made any system updates, or whatever prior to this malfunctioning. It seems to just have stopped working out of nowhere. I have tried uninstalling the synaptics driver and reinstalling, I have tried older drivers and the newest, also the standard microsoft touchpad driver. Nothing seems to fix it, it is completely unresponsive.Might it be a hardware failure? I appreciate all suggestions.

Answer:Lenovo B590 Touchpad scroll not working

I've looked at the various issues below, none of them fit my problem. I have spent hours trying to fix this, trying to get support from Lenovo. I work over 50 hours per week and should not have to spend so much time trying to drag an answer out of Lenovo so I can use my home computer. You should have an online chat that can talk people through the actual problem.Your customer support is nothing short of dreadful!

Lenovo G-50 with Windows 10. The pointer stopped working suddenly. I tried to manage a solution with the keyboard. Probably I did something wrong because now the keyboard doesn't work either. The only keys still working are Ctrl+Alt+Delete, just for restarting the laptop. Could anyone help me? I don't understand very well the computer language, so please, give an easy to understand help. Many thanks.

Okay so, I got my Lenovo Ideapad Y500 a couple days ago. Liked it and all BUT when I had my mouse connected into the laptop and then turned off the touchpad, it would not turn back on. The only way I could get my touchpad to work again is by restarting the computer, which is pretty frustrating. I searched this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?   for ANY drivers/software for the Y500 mousepad and there are none. Can anyone help me fix this problem before I get a refund from this potentially bad purchase? FN + F6 toggles the touchpad on and off and I have tried to turn it on and off, with and without the external mouse connected. Thanks for the help.

I just got me one of these, just had it a few days an I'm having problems with the touchpad. Two issues, I cannot disable tapping, and I cannot enable scrolling. If I uncheck the tapping box it re-checks in just a few seconds. Same with the scrolling feature, if I check the scrolling box it un-checks itself in a few seconds. What have I done; undated the bios and updated the Synaptic driver. After I did this it worked fine. But after turning off the computer and re-starting it, it was back to it's old ways. Any ideas what else I may try? This would be a deal breaker for me. Thanks in advance.

Hi, DanW

If you navigate to Control Panel ? Device Manager and open the tree for Mice and other pointing devices, what devices do you see here? Also, if you right-click on this device and select Properties, and then select the Driver tab, what is the driver and date that you are currently using?

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Occasionaly when moving my finger acoss the touchpad to move the pointer on the screen, screens change on the laptop.  Mostly, the last program I was in appears on the screen.  I am no where near the edges.  The mouse also moves down or up a couple inches occasionally when I try to click, and I end up clicking on something else.  I have another lenovo laptop with a trackpad that this has never happened with so I am assuming it has to do with Windows 8.  I have also had a couple other things happen when moving the pointer around.  I am assuming there are some set movements built into the touchpad.  However, I try to replicate to see why it is happening, but I can never replicate.  I now generally use a mouse so this stops happening.  Anyone else have this happening or know what movements cause what?

Hi, I left my Lenovo U330p (bought about 1 mth ago) at rest for a while and the touchpad totally stopped working. Repeated restarts don't seem to remedy the situation, and pressing the F6 button (enabling/disenabling touchpad) does not work as well. Does anyone know what might be causing the problem? Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo U330p Touchpad stopped working suddenly

hi Mouldy,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Try Unplugging the system from AC.
Turn the system on Then hold the Power button down till it shuts OFF and continue holding the Power button down after shutoff till another 15 sec.

If the touchpad worked again,
Go to Control Panel / Power Options / Change power setting / Advanced Power Settings and turn on hybrid Sleep.

Let me know your findings
Cheers!

I'm using windows 8.1, Lenovo G505s laptop. Recently I got replacement from Lenovo regarding touchpad after that this Fn(F7) touchpad enable/disable not working. This is happening only when I installied touchpad driver provided by lenovo and works well with standard microsoft driver (Ofcourse, no multigesture support with that driver). We perfomed following operations:1. HotKey mode enable/disable in BIOS2.Reinstallation of OS3. Reinstallation of driver(manually) All cases with microsoft driver this function working but with touchpad driver it is not working. It's almost 90days (88thday) daily contacting both Lenovo customer support and service center people but no use. If anybody having this problem and have a solution please share! (My machine under warranty!)

Answer:G505s - Touchpad hot key function not working with lenovo driver

hi phani_kumar,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

AFAIK, the hotkey for the Touchpad is F6 (hotkey mode is disabled in the BIOS).
  - Link to picture

If you already tried that though, can you consider the following:
1. Uninstall the Touchpad and the Lenovo Energy Managerment Driver from the Control Panel (icon views ) > Programs and Features

2. Install the following Win8 Drivers:

Lenovo Energy Management Driver for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit)
Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan) for Windows 8 (64-bit)

Let me know how it goes.
