Problems Importing Favorites into Edge from IE11

Question: Problems Importing Favorites into Edge from IE11

I have posted this question/complaint on another thread, but I have been locked out. So I'll try again. Why can't Microsoft fix the Edge import process to reliably import all favorites from IE 11? I have tried all the workarounds including copying the IE 11 favorites to the <username>/appdata/local...directory and the editing the Registry. Nothing works. Why should it be so difficult for MS to implement a reliable Favorites transfer? What is the point of using Edge, when IE 11 is more friendly?

Any thoughts/suggestions? I have been using Windows 10 for over a year and the problem persists.

Preferred Solution: Problems Importing Favorites into Edge from IE11

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Problems Importing Favorites into Edge from IE11

Well, you didn't really tell us what problems you were having with performing the import.

So, let's skip the diagnosis and jump right to an alternative approach...

You might consider using a 3rd-party application called EdgeManage to see if you have better luck with performing an import operation from Internet Explorer.

Folks,

Before I wiped my Windows 7 install, I exported my IE11 favorites into an HTM file, "bookmark", by using IE11's "export" feature.

My clean Windows 10 install only has 2 browsers: Edge and Chrome. I do not want to install IE11.

How do I get the saved favorites/bookmarks to be imported into Edge? There is no browse function. Edge only allows an automatic import, and that seems to require a functioning IE11 install.

Thanks,
Ken

Hi.
I'm trying to import all my currentbookmarks from I.E. Explorer into ME.
Google Chrome was the source of my initial bookmarks.

Here are the steps I performed.
1. Went to Google Chrome bookmarkmanager, exported a HTML file of my new bookmarks.
2. Launched Internet Explorer 11.
3. Manually deleted all my oldBookmarks in IE 11.
4. Imported HTML file into IE 11,
5. Launched Microsoft Edge.
6. Imported Bookmarks from IE 11 into Microsoft Edge.
When I examined my Bookmarks in ME, it appears many are missing.
Basically, it looks to be an old version of Bookmarks from IE 11 that is being imported into ME.
Any new websites I bookmarked in Chrome within the past 2 year are not showing in ME favorites.
I rarely used Internet Explorer as my Browser, and only did a full import 2 years ago.
I understand IE 11is not being supported by Microsoft. But how do we get the latestBookmarks into Microsoft Edge after and upgrade if IE is my only bridge.

Does anybody have any ideas what could be happening?

BTW: I tried to import from IE browser into ME browser, but that option has been disabled.

Thanks.
Tom.

I am trying to import favorites into Firefox from IE9. I am following the proceedure as described by Firefox but when I check the results I have a list of favorites but when I click on them they are not what was imported - for example a favourite showing a folder as CNN would, when clicked on show a page from BBC site.

According to the instructions when the favorites are imported there should be a folder called IMPORTED FROM INTERNET EXPLORER but i am not seeing this. Just a list of (wrong) folders.

What am I doing wrong?

Answer:Problems Importing Favorites with Firefox

as opposed to trying to import them directly from IE, try exporting them from IE to a file on to your desktop > then launch firefox > go to bookmarks > go to organize bookmarks > import and export > select import > and select the option to import from file > hit Next & when asked for location - navigate to your desktop and select the file you got from IE

We want to have a pdf file download on our website for IE11. PDF's seems to act differently on the various operating systems in the various browsers. Also how it is made has an effect: Microsoft 2010 vs Adobe DC on a Windows 7 OS. (we are also trying W10
os & MSWord10 to pdf) Most of our users are in IE. where how it is made makes no difference on a W10 machine. It just puts up blank pages for a long time. Any suggestions?

Microsoft 2010 doc W7 OS used to create a pdf loaded to a W2008 server:

Windows 7- downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 8 - downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 10 - blank page loaded with no text for many minutes in Edge, fast in Chrome and Firefox
Note - this is with Acrobat DC Reader installed - the Word version worked before the update
In Design to Adobe DC created pdf W7OS  loaded to a W2008 server:

Windows 7- takes many minutes in IE11 (seems to hang midway), fast in Chrome, fast in FirefoxWindows 8 - downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 10 - blank page loaded with no text for many minutes in Edge, many minutes in Chrome, fast in Firefox

When you click on a Favorite in Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 (1607), IE only opens a blank page.

We could narrow that problem down - it apparently only occurs if Favorites are redirected to a file share and Enhanced Protected Mode ist enabled.

It works fine in IE11 on Windows 7 though using the same configuration (redirected Favorites + Enhanced Protected Mode).

I see tons of forums, discussions and a lot of people trying to find a solution for this and I DON'T SEE any solutions or real answers. Can someone or Microsoft support validate that this issue is in deed a Microsoft issue that has not been fixed? Or did
I miss something somewhere that this was fixed? Can anyone confirm?
Thanks,

1st. I noticed that Edge does not show Website`s icons when they`ve got imported from other browsers. and there is a star icon for every imported web site instead of their icons.
2nd. some components on some web sites are not displayed for example, "windows 10 forum" post new thread button is not shown so I have to add the web site to favorites again and then I`ll have the icons and every missing component.

Hello all,

I am trying to update my bookmarks/fav'e in IE11 so I open IE, file > import> import from file > browse > go to my documents > go to computer folder and there is almost nothing there. See screenshots. Obviously there is a lot there including my JSON file which i want to import, and have done may times before but today there is nothing else there. I tried checking different libraries etc, but no dice.

Why is this and can anyone help me figure out how to find the full listed folder?

Answer:I need help with importing fav's to IE11

I have lost all my Favorites in Edge. I have recovered a copy of the desired Favorites and have placed these favorites on my desktop as a file folder. The file structure has all the folders, and within each folder, the links to all the favorite websites. I have tried placing the contents of this file into the following location: C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\De fault
I understand that this is the default location for Edge Favorites. With the desired ?Favorites? folder placed and verified in the above location and I open Edge and click on Favorites and all I see under Favorites are two folders ?Favorites Bar? and ?BookmarksBar? (as expected both currently empty). I had hoped to see also an expandable ?Favorites? folder with all the subfolders. I would appreciate help in how to use the previous referenced Desktop file folder or its content to restore my Favorites in Edge.

I have enough icons in the Edge favorites bar that they do not all show in a browser window. Before the Creator update, at the right end of the items that showed there was a down carrot that expanded vertically down to show a list of the remaining favorites beyond those displayed horizontally. I'm not getting the down carrot now unless I toggle the "Show only icons of the favorites bar" setting. Then the down carrot comes back, but only for that Edge session. Toggling the "Show Favorites Bar" setting does not fix the issue. Any thoughts?

I have gone through the threads on this topic but still can't seem to solve my dilemma and I would appreciate your help.
There is a new family computer. I installed the HD from the old computer, now Drive E.
When trying to get my favorites across from E to IE, I get errors.
I think have followed this advice completely:
"Open Internet Explorer,
File > Import and Export > Next > Export Favorites > Next > Next
Browse to the Desktop
Save > Next > Finish

Your favorites will be in the bookmark.htm file.
Your links should be included."

I think I am having trouble with the export part of the instructions.
If I open IE and follow the wizard through export bookmarks, it doesn't recognize that my favorites are on the E drive.
I have tried to copy them to the desktop to a folder and importing from there, but can't get them into a "bookmark.htm" file and get errors.
Thanks for your help.

Is there a way to import my favorites from Internet Explorer to FireFox? I am switching to FF and I have a lot of favorites in IE that I want to keep...I didn't want to have put them in Mozilla one by one so if anyone can help it would be great!

Also, I was wondering what the upside to running FF over IE is? I am switching because it was suggested in the Protect yourself from Malware sticky, and I DEFINATELY want to protect myself from malware lol. I was just curious how it protects you.

Usually, if you look at the drop down menus at the top of the browser, there is a choice to "Import" or something to that effect. Once there, you should be able to import your Favorites from IE.

Hi Everyone,

I have just finished a clean reinstall of Win7 Home Premium following a BSOD incident --- cause unknown.

As no update was being offered following the install, I chose to install IE11 manually.
This appeared OK, and I then moved the Favorites folder to my D:\drive.
Checked registry and it appears in the appropriate "Shell" entry as D:\Favorites.

In the "View" Tab, I have Menu Bar and Status bar ticked, but the Favorites and Command Bar are greyed out completely.

I have imported some Favourites into the folder (from prior to BSOD) and they are all visible, and usable, when I click on the Favorites Tab. I can even see them in the Organise Favorites bit too.

Can anyone please shed any light on what is wrong here please, and hopefully, let me know how it can be remedied?

Thank you,

Ian

My IE11 instance was re-sorting my shortcuts on the favorites bar no matter what I did. I'd drag a shortcut to a different spot and within 2 seconds it'd snap right back where it was. This started about a month ago (Sept 2014), and I've been using Win 8 ever since the Jan 2013 $39 upgrade offer, and never saw this before.

Here's how I fixed it, althought I'm not sure why this fixed it: I opened RegEdit and went to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Favorites\Links

I exported that entire Links key to .REG file on my desktop. Then I deleted that Links Key from the Registry. THEN, I merged my saved .Reg file back into the Registry, and lo and behold, I can sort manually again just by dragging. Go figure.

If you can identify each bookmark by it's favicon, try without names.

Little over 6 weeks ago now, I knew I was heading towards a crash and that I would be reinstalling Windows 8.1 then re-upgrading to Windows 10. To be safe, I saved my favorites in IE 11 to a usb stick. Now, I'd like to import them back into the Edge, without loosing new favorites that I have saved using Edge. Since some folders are named the same, I don't want to loose anything by having it over written. After this is all done, I would then like to run a broken link utility program.

Because you didnt EXPORT the mail. You just created a shortcut to the mail. The shortcut leads to the actual email. Copy and paste the email to a document, or export it from the email program. Just dragging and dropping will get you no where.

Here's the situation: I had a nice MyGoogle page forever, with all my favorites, etc, but had some technical difficulties, and to make a long story short, switched to Chrome. I need to know how to import my "favorites" folder, which is NOT coming straight from IE, which would be the easy way to do it, I know.......but of course I have the favorites folder on my hard drive. How do I get it imported and sitting conveniently on my Chrome toolbar?

Thanks!

Need to bring over a library size of favorites from ie. into FF.

I have / can import favorites from i.e. but FF dumps them into a 'from i.e. folder'.

How do I get them to appear as folders & individual links in the 'drop-down bookmarks' menu instead of that extra step where they are all gathered 'first' into a newly created folder called "from internet explorer"??

Answer:Importing bulk favorites from I.E. to F.F.

im not sure how to do the imports as i dont use IE, however there is a good workaround that will back up all your favs and import also.

install xmarks and set up an account free, and when you install xmarks in firefox and ie they will sync. so
first install xmarks for ie, then when the favs have synced then install xmarks for firefox ,when you sign into xmarks in ff the favs will sync to ff.

and you have the added security of knowing that they are backed up on the cloud. also you can log into the xmarks site from a different computer anywhere and still access your favs.

Download Xmarks for Internet Explorer

Download Xmarks for Firefox

You do not have permission to save in this directory. See the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the my documents folder instead. I am the administrator and I am signed in under my name. My wife as well has her own name on here and she was granted the administrator rights as well as I was (BY ME).....Any ideas ?

Ahhh ok nevermind. I copied the favorite from my cd to my desktop and tried to import them from the desktop, guess what. IT WORKED !!!!

When I import favorites into Firefox it bundles them all up into a folder "from Internet Explorer".

How can I drag everything out of the folder so they are part of FF list?

Answer:Importing i.e. favorites into FireFox

You can either right-click the "from Internet Explorer" folder and copy/paste it into the Firefox folder.

Or, you can open the "from Internet Explorer" folder, click on the first bookmark (right beside it without opening it), hold the SHIFT key while clicking on the last bookmark of the list to highlight them all. Copy/paste them to the Firefox folder or the folder of your choice.

Answer:Mozilla Importing IE Favorites

From click hereHow can I import my IE favorites into Mozilla's bookmarks?Doing so is a two-step-process.First, start IE and select "File" -> "Import and Export". Chose "Export favorites" and save your IE bookmarks. It's best to select a place where you can easily find them. Then, open Mozilla, and select "Bookmarks" -> "Manage Bookmarks". In the window the opens up, select "Tools" -> "Import" and then select the file with your IE bookmarks that you previously saved. You should now have your IE bookmarks in Mozilla.

Hi All

I apologize if this has been discussed, however I could not find a thread related to my problems.

After being infected with the Vista Internet Security virus, (that's another story) my favorites are now all messed up.

When I click on Favorites in IE8, it lists old Favorites. When I open my bookmark.htm which is located in C:/Users/Guardianangel, all the correct Favorites are listed.

I've importing them several times, from the User folder, its says its completed, however no changes area made, it continues to list the old favorites.

When I click on Organize Favorites, the "correct" folders are listed.

I can see the correct Favorites in C:/Users/Guardianangel/Documents/Favorites

I searched bookmarks.htm and found two, one in C:/Users/Guardianangel/Documents and another one in Guardianangel/Documents. They are both the same .htm file.

I do not see a bookmark.htm with the old bookmarks, (I changed my file view to show hidden files)

I reset my IE8 back to the original default, and now both the Favorite and Organize favorites are both old. However, the bookmark.htm folders list the correct favorites, and the Favorite Folder lists all the correct folders.

Is having the two htm files messing it up? if so, which one do I delete? Is there a way to delete all favorites without having to delete one at a time.

I appreciate any help!!!

Answer:No luck importing IE favorites

Hi paul5

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

This step is failing?
In Internet Explorer:
File > Import and Export > Next > Import Favorites
Browse to the location of your bookmark.htm file to load them into Internet Explorer.

What happens if you move or copy the bookmark.htm file to your Desktop and try the Import?

Do you have Netscape installed?
Try Importing the bookmark.htm file into Netscape, then Export the Favorites from Netscape as a bookmark.htm file, then Import them into Internet Explorer.

Copy or dragging the Favorites into the:
C:\Documents and Settings\UserAccount\Favorites folder does not work either?

What version of Internet Explorer was running on the Windows ME system?

Let us know.

Answer:Importing and Merging favorites?

Managing the Edge Favorites is now more complicated because MS has put them in a Spartan.edb file. There is a nice utility that helps you do it and details can be found here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/38112-microsoft-edge-favorites-export-windows-10-a.html
It might be easier for you to export your existing Edge Favorites into IE11 and get them sorted there before importing them back again.

The following tutorial shows you how to import favorites from IE11 to Edge: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1...dows-10-a.html

Answer:Chrome not importing everything from IE8 favorites

Hello Iowabucks & welcome to TSF

To import all the bookmarks/favourites from IE8, you can export all the favourites in IE8 as a *.html file and import it to Chrome using the Bookmark Manager (Wrench --> Bookmarks --> Bookmarks Manager).

Did this work? Please give us an update.

It appears that most of the posts regarding Internet Explorer were in this category, so I hope that I have the right one.

Without going into unnecessry detail, my problem is that a few days ago IE 11, Windows 8.1 would no longer load my bookmarks from my favorites bar and would pop up with a message about security. When I said to proceed, a second screen would pop up with a yellow band at the top with another warning about security and would then ask to proceed. When I clicked yes, the printer box would pop up with the original security request. When I clicked on this box to proceed, all the messages would then disappear and I would be left back at the home screen. When I went to the favorites center and tried to load a bookmark, nothing would happen.

Once again, without going to into unnecessary detail, I then spent the better part of the next three days looking for a solution on the internet and I have tried every single one of them. No, I have not recently added any software and I have not installed any additional hardware. Yes, all of my Microsoft updates are current. All of my hardware drivers are current. I cannot relate this problem to any specific event.

Sites that are entered manually will load and sites related to icons on the desktop will load. The problem appears to be related to the bookmarks in the favorites bar and favorites center.

I have tried the following: sfc (no problems), dism, system restore to a point well before I began experiencing this problem,... Read more

First off, I don’t know which forum to put this in, pls bear with me. I am currently customizing my Win10 upgrade, and that is why I placed this query in the Win 10 Forum.

My question;

I like to customize my Favorites … Folders before single URLs, and not have things necessarily in alphabetical order. So,,, is there a way to Export your Favorites to a file, so that when said file is Imported to another PCs browser, the Favorites retain the customized order?

I hope this question makes sense, and any wisdom, insight, or outright solution welcomed. Thanx.

Firefox is my primary browser and quite a few times I've exported the bookmarks to an html file and a flash drive prior to reformatting or a new OS install.  When I import them back into the new install they appear in the same order they were in previously.  I also have some folders first and then some single links.  What browser are you using?

I have Windows XP and IE 6.0 and I just successfully used it's Wizard to export my Favorite folders to a desktop file. What I'm confused about is: In exporting my IE Favorite folders, shouldn't everything be empty in the IE Favorites area? My Favorites folders were still in their regular place, even though they got exported to a desktop file. Also, I imported my Favorites back from my desktop file and I expected to see my IE Favorite folders doubled, however, my IE Favorites were not doubled and it looks as if nothing at all happened.

Answer:Confused about Exporting and Importing Favorites

Exporting just makes a copy and doesn't erase your current favorites. Importing will overwrite equivalent entries.

Hey tech guys,

So, I recently installed Windows7 and planned on using firefox but I'm okay with using IE for now and I don't have to bother with another browser....

I backed up my favorites from firefox and it put them in a bookmarks.json file. I also have a file just called favorites that I backed up with all the internet shortcuts in it. What is the easiest way to import these favorites? I tired just to import via IE but it wanted a bookmarks.html file.

Thanks for any help

Answer:Quick question on importing favorites to IE

The bookmarks.json backup file is Firefox's native format which other browsers don't recognise. Consequently, Firefox also gives you the option of backing up bookmarks to an HTML file instead.

Open Firefox.
Click Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks.
Click the Import & Backup button in the top bar.
Click Export HTML

The Reset may have. If they're not in the Favorites folder, you'll have to reconstruct the list manually. Get in the habit of exporting the favorites to an HTML file. That way, if problems arise, you can simply import them from that file. I do this every time I need to re-install Windows because of some blunder on my part.

I have two PCs running Windows 8.1 and IE11 and a Surface 2. I have set them all to use Skydrive to sync Favorites. They all appear in the various IE11s but those added on the desktop lose the URL parameter when they arrive on the Surface. Favorites added on the Surface appear correctly on the PCs.
Having an even closer look I see that on the Surface the shortcuts added on a PC have the attribute 'Hidden' checked. Any ideas how I can unset them?
Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Answer:Syncing IE11 Favorites between Windows RT and Desktop

As I have found the problem, I will share the solution in case anyone else gets it...
Despite the Favorites folder being set to "Make Available Offline", shortcut folders inside it (as seen on the Surface) are not. So it is this parameter which is not being synced properly. Changing it for each sub-folder on the Surface, makes the Favorites work.

I posted this problem in other forums, but alas, no help yet. Here's hoping someone here can assist. Thanks.

Favorites have become inaccessible during the process of Organizing Favorites. My IE Favorites were on OneDrive long before upgrading to Windows 10. I have used IE11 in Windows 10 for 2 weeks. Since using Organize Favorites in one sub-folder the IE Favorites I see in the Favorites menu are no longer what is on OneDrive.

Clicking on Favorites in the Menu Bar I see only the one folder I Organized, with one sub-folder, and the sub-folder is empty. Clicking on Organize Favorites, I see all of the Favorites I expect to see, with the one folder I had previously Organized at the top of the list, sorted out of alphabetic sequence. If I look at Favorites on OneDrive they look normal. If I look at this Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Favorites
the data in that key points to the OneDrive Favorites folder as expected. The IE11 Favorites Bar is visible and active even though the Favorites menu is hosed.

One more piece of weirdness - clicking on the star icon in the upper right corner (View Favorites, feed and history) results in the correct display of Favorites. So Favorites accessed by the star icon and by Organize Favorites (under Favorites in the Menu Bar) are displayed correctly, but clicking on Favorites in the Menu Bar results in a useless display.

edge seems massively dumbed down, very bare options configuration compared to IE11.

From what I can see all of the following are missing.

No options to toggle tls 1.1 1.0 1.2 etc.
No options to toggle gpu acceleration
No options to set file cache location (I like to use ram disk)
No security zones
No tracking protection lists
No addons
No advanced cookie settings
No per domain settings
No options to adjust certificate verification
No options to adjust UTF-8 and IDN
No toggle for crash protection
No tab options

Basically edge feels like a mobile orientated app, as it uses the "modern" interface.

Is there a reason to use edge instead of IE11? aside from future proofing as I am assuming IE11 at some point will be obsoleted by Microsoft.

Answer:is it me or is ie11 better than edge?

Edge is still very early in it's development cycle.. give it time and it will get much better.

Oh and I'm using it right now to post here and I like it.. very fast and clean.

Answer:IE11 vs. Edge

Browser Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11 (Windows 10)

IE has become a failure and MS is trying to start over with a new browser, Edge. This is a ground up design of a new browser and it's looking good right now for a browser that's only about a year old. I've been using it for some time and it's been a good experience for me at least.

I am having problems on my laptop using things like Cortana across user accounts. The wheel spins and spins when I click on Cortana. I think the problem stems from the fact edge and IE11 cannot load outlook.com or go into things like account settings. It's only this causing the issue, all other sites work apart from these critical MS sites. I've tried changing DNS settings to alternates like google but nothing works to fix this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated? On my other desktop PC I have no issues. All language settings and packs are correctly set as UK. Am at a total loss. I tried a restore point but that was no better. I've had this issue crop up intermittently ever since getting the laptop. Sometimes it works ok but after a while the issue will re-occur without rhyme or reason. I notice under family setitngs 'Can't connect to family settings, your user data may not be upto date' sometimes comes up too. It's as if the laptop is having trouble connecting to MS server some of the time

Answer:Outlook.com unreachable via edge and IE11

The machine seems to be having real problems signing into MS. For example if I launch films and TV I see lower left 'Can't sign in'. I think there is something amiss logging into the MS account causing all the issues. Store is slow and unable to update apps, always an error message after ages of acquiring license. I don't really want to have to try and create a new user acc given everything I have setup/installed

Is there a way of signing out of the MS account and signing back in because something is seriously screwed up

Cheers
Wayne

Hi all,
Requesting your votes to get the WebRTC in IE11/Edge:https://windowsphone.uservoice.com/f...port-of-webrtcWebRTC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
All of Skypes biggest competitors are moving towards plugin-free browser calling features, and Redmond is finally admitting it has no choice but to do the same. In Microsofts own words: Its all about convenience imagine youll be able to simply open IE and make a Skype call to friends, family, or get real-time support for that new device right from your browser.
Both Google and Mozilla are way ahead of Microsoft in this area, both in terms of adding WebRTC features to their respective browsers and in terms of building plugin-free calling services that rely on the technology. In short, Skype is under threat, and Microsoft has finally decided to opt for an If you cant beat em, join em strategy.http://venturebeat.com/2014/10/27/mi...rnet-explorer/

I have disabled the tab preview for IE11 (through IE Options) so that I can minimize my IE from the taskbar icon even with multiple tabs open. So... can I enable tab previews by hovering over the tab, such as is the case in Edge? Thanks in advance.

Windows 10, HP 6520 Printer
I use IE 11 for most of my work and when I access Print I have the print options as designated by my printer – one of them being to print in Booklet form.
If I use Edge, the print options do not include the ability to print in Booklet form.
How can I obtain the Full print options offered by my printer when using Edge?

Really don't like Edge, and I know my old IE11 is still there, so how can I get rid of Edge and go back to IE?

Answer:Can I go back to IE11 once Edge is installed?

Use the search bar to search for "Internet Explorer" and you will see it there. Just pin to your start-screen/task bar as appropriate.

Has anyone figured a way to turn this crap off?

Yes, I know that Edge is Microsoft's "preferred" browser. No, I'm not interested. I need IE for work purposes because of legacy ActiveX components, so that annoying icon does no good.

I'm trying to get the new build ready for work on our domain, but considering all our employees heavily use IE every day, this is going to get on everybody's nerves and fast!

I tried copying the iexplore.exe from Anniversary Update (1607) to 1703 VM, and got an error about a missing ordinal in the EXE. So I'm thinking they added it that way - not seeing any settings, GPOs, or any other way to turn it off.

Even better when you're logged in as the local Administrator account which cannot run Edge or any other Modern apps but the stupid icon still shows up and is completely useless

Answer:That annoying Edge icon in IE11 on CU
