Thinkpad Yoga & Windows 10: No WiFi in tablet-mode

Question: Thinkpad Yoga & Windows 10: No WiFi in tablet-mode

Hello everyone, Yesterday I installed Windows 10 on my Thinkpad Yoga (first generation) with clean install. Everything works fine except wifi in tablet mode. Every time I twist my yoga (i.e. go into tablet mode physically) wifi stops working. When I twist against to laptop again, wifi comes back. Does everyone knows this issue? Thanks a lot for your time. Greeting from Germany

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I've got a weird problem...Whenever I have my Yoga flipped into tablet mode, my wifi adapter doesn't seem to work. It either can't find a connection or whatever it can connect to is a "limited connection" which of course means "no internet"It works in presentation and tent mode, and it even works if I'm holding it upside down in laptop mode. It's more of an inconvienience than anything else since I don't normally use the internet in tablet mode but it would be nice to find a fix for it.

HiI purchased the Lenovo 20cd000muk thinkpad yoga (or s1 in some countries).I noted that in tablet mode, the wi-fi connection get lost, the wi-fi disabled, and it is not possibleto scan the network or connect the device. So I have no wi-fi in tablet mode, but in laptop mode everything works fine, with no issues. From Lenovo datasheets I had noticed that the wi-fi antennas are in the rear of the display, and I've read in other threads about x220 and other products that the problem (in tablet mode) have no solution,i.e. it's like a manufacture problem. Now, I ask all this model owners, and the administrators or technicians: can you confirm that this aproblem related with this specific model, or your thinkpads yoga 20cd can connect normallyin tablet mode?Is there a possible solution? Thank you for your help.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga (20cd or s1) tablet mode wifi problem

Nobody?Neither TP Yoga owners? For tablet mode i mean the physical situation, when I rotate the screen over the back of keyboard, ad not the software option which can be activate from the right lower corner of the desktop.I only want to know if it's a problem of my own notebook or it's a common problem that afflicts ever Tp yoga or notebooks with the same 360 degree design, and if there is a solution. Thanks

Hi there! By some reason I ordered my Lenovo Yoga Thinkpad with Windows 7 pre-installed on it. I thought all portable devices was delivered with Windows 8. However, since I experience that scrolling using fingers in tablet mode is quite laggy I wonder if it's performance could be speeded up running the Yoga Thinkpad with Windows 8 instead? It runs quite smooth using the mousepad so I had an idea of the antiglare filter that's applied to the sceen that might cause this laggy experience? Or maybe there's a driver that speeds things up?

Hi.I've been using ThinkPad Yoga for 4 days, and realized a problem regarding the rotation/orientation across the Laptop/Tent/Tablet modes. If I enter the Tablet mode (after flipping LCD to 360 degree), make several rotations with or without screen rotation lock, and come back to standard Laptop mode, then the orientation of TrackPad AND TrackPoint does not match the orientation of the screen. Does any one experience the same problem? Or, am I only one who have this problem? When I first open the box and use this machine, I didn't realize this problem. Maybe this is caused after I installed many programs and drivers.  So, I would appreciate very much if you let me know that you "don't have such a problem".It will also help me. Thank you!

Hello all. I received a second-generation Thinkpad Yoga S1 12 a few days ago. Everything is working well, except tablet mode. Occasionally when I'm browsing the web in tablet mode, the device crashes. Also, whenever I switch orientations, the device almost certainly crashes. After going into task manager, I've found out that the disk usage goes up to 100% for some reason many times in tablet mode, which is most likely the culprit. I'm fairly sure the ISD_Tablet.exe driver is having a major memory leak that's causing the overusage of disk. I've already restarted, restored, and updated through both Lenovo update and Windows Update several times, but no fix has been found. Any of you guys have any ideas?

Hello, i noticed that when i'm turned on laptop to tablet mode (physically) wifi stops working or wifi signal becoming very low.  I'm using Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14. Maybe you have a solution for this problem?

Answer:Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14, wifi problem on tablet mo...

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14?
Are you using Windows 10?

I may suggest you first to try to update the Wifi drivers and maybe some other of the system driver of you Yoga.
Here are my general tips:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

After that we can try a little bit more. For example I also like to test it on some other Wifi networks just to be sure it is not a compatibility issue with the Wifi Router.

Regards

I've had my yoga for 3 days now and have noticed that the Touchpad does not disable when in tablet mode. There must be some remedy to this as it makes tablet mode fairly useless since holding the tablet moves the mouse when you inevitably touch the Touchpad. This appears to happen with the 11s model as well (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Yoga-11s-Touchpad-in-Tablet-Mode/m-p/1168... and the driver mentioned as a fix does not resolve my issue.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga S1 - Touchpad active in tablet mode

The moderator comment is misplaced - this is the only message I've left on this forum. You've moderated my comment or deleted a duplicate but have not provided any response to my actual problem. As I type this, I'm actually becoming pretty frustrated by the fact you'd take time to school me in the ways of forum ettiquette and not provide any actual customer service. At more than $1,200, this Thinkpad Yoga's inconsistent auto-screen rotation, ever-changing touch screen calibration settings, incredibly hot case temperature while installing Photoshop and The Banner Saga, and of course, the Touchpad remaining active in tablet mode is resulting in my returning this computer. I love the weight and the keyboard, but these pros don't outweigh the cons (especially when added to Windows 8.1's inability to properly scale menus for an FHD 12.5 screen). I'll try again on Lenovo's next edition of this line.

Over the last few months my Thinkpad S1 Yoga has developed a habit of randomly entering tablet mode when the lid is about 90-120 degrees open, as if the lid was swung past 180 degrees. Consequently the keyboard and trackpad are disabled when this happens. Closing the lid to force the computer to sleep and then opening the lid again removes the symptom. Moving the lid past 180 degrees sometimes makes the computer go into laptop mode again, or sometimes makes the display rotate 90 degrees while staying in tablet mode. I tried to remove the sensor in Device Manager and let plugnplay rediscover it but the problem remains. So I'm guessing this is a hardware problem? For now my workaround is to keep the sensor disabled (which means no tablet mode unless I Before I tear the computer apart and start replacing parts - it's out of warranty - any thoughts? Thanks.

I know in the IdeaPad Yoga models of the past it was possible to disable throttling in tablet mode by disabling DPTF in the BIOS.  I've looked at my Thinkpad Yoga now, and there's nothing like DPTF in the BIOS or among the drivers that I can find.   Problem is the tablet slows down a LOT when in tablet mode.  All the applications take forever to open.  Everything is slow.  It's not right with a laptop that has an i5 5300U in it and behaves like an old tablet with an ARM processor  Any way to disable this throttling or at least lessen it? For reference, I'm still using Windows 8.1 on it.

I currently use a Lenovo ThinkPad S1 Yoga, and have recently upgraded the 64-bit OS from Windows 8.1 to 10.Since then I have been experiencing issues where ?Tablet Mode? will activate suddenly and randomly while I am using my ultrabook in laptop mode. This is especially frustrating because it often occurs while I am using the keyboard which will then be disabled, and cannot be re-enabled. I have attempted to turn on/off the various Tablet Mode settings ? ?Make Windows more touch-friendly??, ?When I sign in...?, ?When this device automatically??, ?Hide app icons??, but no pair of settings seemed to work. In the end, I am forced to reboot, which is the only solution that resolves the matter. What steps can I take to resolve this matter once and for all without having to restart the system constantly?

Hi

In my case I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and it took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on it. I went updating the driver over time until it get stable.

I also have some settings similar to you, but mine (for example)  sometimes switches to tablet mode when I close the lid, but when I open it Windows change very fast to laptop mode, so it does not bother me.

I can suggest you to try to update your drivers, here are some of my tips to update the drivers on a Thinkpad when going to Windows 10.

These are some of my tips to update the drivers of your Thinkpad:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

If you have more experience installing and uninstalling driver, there are some other things you can do, but those options os AS IS outside Lenovo's suggestion.
1) There is DriverEasy that offers a decent for free scanning of your device and shows you which drivers can be updated from their database.
2) According to your machine devices you have the Intel Driver Update Utility and the AMD Driver Update Utility, sometimes it can help... Read more

The touch-pad stays disabled.Keyboard and everything else works fine. I have to reboot the machine to bring the touch pad back to live again.Drivers are the current one from ELAN.OS is Windows 10 64BitDoes someone know how to fix it?Kind regardsVanilla

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga 260 TouchPad stays disabled after tablet-mode

Hi

I was not able to find anything interesting on the support site of your model:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...

I checked the change on the ELAN drivers from 12/1/2016, but it does not says anything about the touchpad not recovering from tablet mode.

If you already installed this driver and didn't work, I don't have more ideas about it.

It is a Lenovo Yoga S1 12.5 inch. The touch screen works fine in laptop mode, but as soon as I push the screen back to about 110 degrees, it turns into tablet mode and the touchscreen is disabled I need to be able to use the touchscreen while it's in tablet mode.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga S1 - touch input does not work in tablet mode

Hi dudeguy Can you post your full Thinkpad Model number and the Windows version you are using? I don't have an S1, but touch screen is always working, no matter if it is on tablet mode, tent mode , or laptop mode..maybe the touchscreen should only be disabled when the lid is closed or the screen is turned off. It is very strange that it get disabled when you turn it to tablet mode. Just some "trial and error".- Check Windows Update and try to put any drivers up-to-date.- Try updating the drivers with Lenovo System Update- If you are using Windows 10 try install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows Store. I was trying to find something in Windows settings "Pen and Touch" that can disabled the Touch-screen in that way, but I haven't found anything. Regards

I solved this problem after reinstalling the driver the 3rd time. Not too sure why the problem is gone  however, a new problem surfaced (a less serious one). the mouse driver seems to be loaded quite late into the boot sequence, so after seeing my desktop, the cursor only appears after around 5-10 seconds. if i disable the touchpad in Device Manager, the cursor shows up immediately on startup (without the proper drivers loaded). guess it's a bug.

Hello, after upgrading to Windows 8.1, the touchpad on my 11s does not disable when in tablet mode. I remember having this problem in Windows 8 and installing Lenovo Energy Management fixed it. When I fold my Yoga 11s (Haswell) into tablet mode in Windows 10, the touch pad is not disabled and my fingers and legs can cause the mouse to activate and move around when I want to just be using the touch screen.  Am I missing something, or does the touchpad driver for the Yoga 11s (Haswell) not properly support Windows 10 when you fold the Yoga into a tablet?

Answer:Yoga 11s (Haswell) touch pad not disabled when in tablet mode in Windows 10

I had the same problem although mine included not automatically switching to tablet mode when folding the screen back. Ultimately I learned that I needed to download the Lenovo Transition driver. I don't have the link but if you search it you'll find it. That will clear everything up.  A file is installed called ymc.exe, which stands for yoga mode control. Check your task manager to see if you have it.

Hi, I bought a Yoga 2 Pro running windows 8.1 in December 2013. The machine runs fine, but from the beginning I experience frequent system issues whenever I have the Yoga in Tablet mode (display turned to the back). The issues sometimes arise directly after I resume from tablet mode. More frequent the issues appear once I had the machine in tablet mode and after had it in suspend mode! Some of the frequent issues that arise after I resume from tablet mode:Power surge at right USB Port, where I have my mouse connected! The connected device cannot be provided with enough power. (Note, the left port still works), orWiFi not working any more (No WLAN device detected, WLAN not functional), orBluetooth not working (No Bluetooth device detected, BT not functional)All issues reliably disappear with a system restart! I have already updated my drivers, scanned the Lenovo and Microsoft forum whether this is known without success and hope this avenue will bring me more luck. What makes the bug hard to narrow down is that I do not have a recipe to reproduce the error. Not every time I turn the display in tablet mode the symptoms are equal! But what I can is that the tablet mode is the most common denominator I found so far. Any helped/suggestions much appreciated. Regards   Florian

Hey, been running Windows 10 with all the latest drivers. The Windows 10 traditional desktop in "Yoga laptop mode" worked great, but the laptop and Chrome were unusable under 'Yoga tablet mode'. SOLUTION:  Make sure you disable DPTF in the BIOS, as that fixed all performance issues for me. I had actually had issues with this setting before and had disabled it, but at some point I updated the BIOS and the options was enabled agian by default.  I highly recommend this.  I use Chrome and Google to manage my life and business.  Anything other than "laptop mode" was useless.  Once I disabled the DPTF setting in the BIOS, viola!!  All problems solved and changing modes works better than ever!!!!!!  To boot into BIOS, power down the yoga 2 pro.  Looking at the right side power button, notice there is a very small pin size button next to it.  With an ink pen, just press that micro button for about 3 seconds and the yoga will boot into BIOS.  The DPTF setting is under one of the tabs at the bottom of the menu.  Highlight, select "disable", then tab over to "save and reboot".  That's it!!!

Hello, I've owned my Yoga Pro 2 since it hit the market and have been satisfied until now.  I tried starting it this morning and there was no response except for the white circle next to the power button being illuminated.  I tried holding down the power button for ten seconds to restart: nothing on the screen.  I tried holding down the power button for 90 seconds (per research on others' successful attempts online): the white illuminated circle next to the power button illuminates to orange for about 3 seconds and then back to an illuminated white circle with nothing on the screen. The next thing I tried was plugging it into another outlet with no changes.  Finally, I tried starting it in tablet mode and it booted up. After booting up, I immediately made a backup onto an external HD as the touch screen worked and I was able to use it as a tablet.  Next, I tried to see if any other modes worked (e.g. tent, desktop, etc.) and after lifting the screen to transition less than 1/2 an inch, the screen would immediately turn black with keyboard and power buttons being ineffective.  Upon returning to tablet mode, I pushed the windows home logo on the screen and the screen popped into life.  I was able to use it in tablet mode again. Repeated attempts to return to transition to other modes resulted in a black screen after reaching the 1/2 inch mark.  Is this a wiring/hardward thing or is it a software fix?  I've uninstalled ... I was wondering if there's any way to wake a Windows tablet/PC connected to a wifi network in Connected Standby mode via wifi? Wake on LAN doesn't seem to work with connected standby (and wifi). Depends on the NIC driver. Some of them you can go into is properties and disable "allow to power off" either in the NIC properties, or in the advanced power settings. If left on, then you can use wake on lan.

Answer:Yoga 2 13 - Laptop won't automatically switch to tablet mode when I flip the display back in Windows...

I don't think Lenovo has made the Transition Software fully compatible with Win10 yet. I myself have only minor problems: 1. When the lid is in almost closed position the Transition software recognises tablet mode. So everytime i open my laptop it goes into tablet mode and only after a few seconds into laptop mode. When waking up from sleep mode these few seconds really hurt becouse otherwise the laptop would be on instantly. 2.When I want to type something while in tablet mode only Windows apps make the keyboard pop up. In 3rd party apps I have to do it manually by tapping on the icon in the notification bar. There seem to be different problems with transition between different modes and I'm not sure if I should open a new thread for mine. I know this didn't help very much.

I just upgraded my Thinkpad S3 Yoga 14 to Windows 10 today. After the upgrade, the Wifi network stopped working. Device was reported correctly installed on Device Manager, but available Wifi networks weren't shown.I tried a lot of things, uninstalling the Wifi device from Device Manager, updating to the Windows 10 lastest drivers from the Lenovo Support page, installing old driver versions of the Wifi card... reboots, reboots, a lot of reboots. Maybe what we can do first is try to update the Wacom drivers of your Thinkpad Yoga from the Lenovo support site of you model.

Question: Yoga Tablet Mode

Hi, I just purchased the X1 Yoga and have tried rotating the screen round into the tablet mode, as soon as it hits 360 degrees the computer goes into standby mode. When I change the settings for when the lid is closed to do nothing the screen still turns off. Does anyone know how to stop the screen turning off as soon as the screen is rotated? Thanks,Neel

Answer:Tablet Mode on X1 Yoga

Could be magnetic piece so when you close lid normal the energy from magnetic will make laptop screen turn off so I wonder if that magnetic is to strong so when you flip screen other way it gets enegery there to and then laptop screen goes off /sleep since it thinks your closing the lid in the normal way which you aren't, it is just my guess could be something else instead.

I have a 2nd gen Yoga 11e 20E50015US . I bought it a few days ago, and from the beginning, when I close the cover halfway, it automatically goes into tablet mode, and I can't get it out unless I shut down and reboot. This even occurs though the tablet mode button in the menu is not toggled on.Sometimes when I close the lid it also goes into tablet mode.I tried to toggle the tablet mode button on and off in the menu, but it only helped once.  I set the settings so that it won't go into tablet mode without asking me, but it still does so without any input from me.This is a real infuriating problem, since the only solution I have found is to shut down and reboot. Even a restart doesen't help. I also had a problem with updating Windows 10, which ended up getting stuck and getting an error message due to a corrupt file. I ended up reinstalling Windows 10 and fixed the problem. Are these bugs common in new Yoga 11e systems, and is there an easy fix? Thanks

Hi All, Had my Yoga 2 Pro a few years. Upgraded to Windows 10. But before that, I would occasionally have issues with the screen not rotating in tablet mode. Now it doesn't at all (as far asI can tell). I saw mention here of a sensors segment in device manager but when I looked there I did not see that heading. Any suggestions for diagnosis or directions to explore?  Thanks for the help, techimpi

Hello everyone, I just unboxed my new Yoga 3 Pro and to my disappointment in the tablet mode, system will not launch "virtual keyboard" > I am unable to type in tablet mode (which makes it useless). Tried in Explorer and FireFox browsers. Familiar problem to someone??? Many thanks for suggestions! (& sorry if this topic was already discussed, I have not found that thread)

Answer:Yoga 3 Pro - tablet mode problem

My keyboard does not always open automatically either but it should open when logging into computer at start up. After it loads you should have a keyboard icon in your taskbar to get it on, it only loads auto on certain websites and programs not all of them.

I have my yoga 500 for about a month. But because of some issues with mouse (wich continues) I did a factory reset via Windows 10 new settings app. Before I did this, when I fliped the notebook it automatically turned tablet mode on. After factory reset it doesn´t recognize it anymore although I set to turn tablet mode automatically when it's flipped. Keyboard still stops working but for example num lock still lights and I think it didn't before. Please what can I do with this? It is really annoying always turns it by myself.

My Yoga lls will not switch to tablet mode when the screen is folded over completely. The keyboard is not de-activated either when in this mode. I've read through the forums and haven't found any real solution to this problem. I see many people have this problem and screen orientation issues as well. My screen orientation is also a problem at times when I first open the lid and the log on screen comes up.

When I turn the yoga's screen completely around (tablet position) it will not stay in tablet mode. If I open it (separate the screen from the keyboard) just a little bit or move the tablet to a completely vertical position it will reenter tablet mode, but the problem is if I tilt it from a vertical position even a little bit, it kicks me back out of tablet mode. This wouldn't really be a problem if the screen would rotate outside of tablet mode, but that's not how the device works apparently. Can someone else that has one test this?

I was really pleased with my Yoga 510 at first but it has quickly developed some annoying issues. Most annoying is how utterly usuable it is in tablet mode. Simple things like clicking into a textbox on a web page causes a five second day. Likewise clicking into the address bar or trying to move the cursor to a new position causes the same frustrating delay. Switch off tablet mode and it instantly works perfectly. Switch back to tablet mode and you're back to frustrating delays in everything you try and do. Is there anything you can suggest because i chose the Yoga for its ability to act like a tablet when required.

Hello, I got my Yoga 500 a few days ago and it has started not being able to change what mode it is in. I can no longer use my keyboard, which is slightly frustrating. I am currently awaiting the Windows 10 update (it currently has 8.1), so does anyone know if the update could be a solution, as I've been reading that many people have had this problem with Windows 8.1? If not, are there any other solutions someone might know, or should I take it in somewhere? Thanks.

Answer:Yoga 500 will not change out of tablet mode

Windows 10 is definitely better designed to be used in table mode and switch between a table mode and computer mode use. Despite that I expected some learning curve, I found that the Windows 10 environment is immediately very intuitive to use. When in Windows 10, you can access the table-mode settings by navigating to Windows 10 Settings > System > Tablet Mode.

My organization requires ctrl-alt-del before signing in, and I have noticed there is no way to do so in tablet mode.  The screen also refers to a Windows Security Button, but I don't see any buttons that would fit that description.  I've seen on other threads for other Thinkpads that volume up + power works, but since there's no volume button on the 2nd Gen Yoga, I'm not sure what to do.  Really hoping unlocking won't always require flipping into laptop mode - a minor inconvenience but one I'd like to avoid.

Hi! I'm having quite a bit of problem with the Yoga 11s touchpad in tablet mode. My touchpad never turns off when the keyboard turns off, which is obviously annoying as it interferes with everything I do in tablet mode. I called Lenovo support, but to my dismay the only thing they could suggest is "temporarily" turnin off my touchpad. Though it's easy, it'd a nuisance as I'd have to keep turning it on and off when I switch between laptop and tablet mode... So if there's anyone out there that can help, please do. I'd be so happy if this annoying issue was fixed. Hopefully it's just a driver, etc. issue so I won't have to send my new system in..

Answer:Yoga 11s Touchpad in Tablet Mode

hi  delrosarioluis,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

First check under Control Panel / Programs and features and look for your touchpad software (Synaptics, Elan )
Then Download and install this Driver.

Touchpad Driver (Elan, Synaptics) for 64-bit Windowstp112w8.exe122MB

This should refresh the touchpad driver and should disable the touchpad again when in tablet mode

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

Hello, I just received a new Yoga 2 13, 8Gb, 256Gb SSD. I have been using it exclusively as a laptop. It worked just fine for a few days. I did notice once the screen flipped sideways and the keyboard turned off randomly but after turning the laptop on its side and back, everything went back to normal. Today, after closing the lid and putting the machine to sleep, then waking it up, it awoke in tablet mode with the sideways screen and turned off keyboard. To do anything I have to use the on-screen keyboard, which does work. Nothing I did could get it to go back to laptop mode, or for autorotate to ever work. Rebooted several times, no. The "Lenovo" signage does show correctly in landscape as soon as the machine turns on, but once it gets to the login window, it's back to sideways tablet mode. The auto-rotate button (which I had never touched prior) doesn't appear to do anything. I click the button, it says "autorotate off" then I click it again to "autorotate on" and still no rotation. I called Lenovo technical support, and he tried (after remote desktoping into my machine) to try a different display driver. The Windows "Basic" Driver, the Intel Driver from March 2014, and the latest Lenovo display drivers downloaded did nothing. He turned off "ycp" or something similar as a startup service, no help. In Screen Resolution, he changed the orientation of the display from portrait to landscape which did fix the orientation problem but did n... Hi hsuan_kwok,

Thanks for posting in the Lenovo Community,

I?d like to ask you if you?re facing the same problem in the laptop mode also for the restart hanging?

1. If you are on new Start Screen, type power and Windows will automatically search for the term and will show you the results.

If you are on Desktop, move your cursor to top-right corner of screen to access new Charms Bar. Now click on Search option and type power in search box.

2. Now click on Settings link given in right-sidebar of search results page and then click on "Change what the power buttons do" link given in the search results as shown in following screenshot:

3. It'll open Power Options window. You can alternatively open the same window by typing powercfg.cpl in RUN dialog box and press Enter and then click on the "Choose what the power buttons do" link given in left sidebar.
Now scroll down to bottom and you'll see "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" option given in Shutdown settings section as shown in following screenshot

4. Disable the option by unchecking the checkbox and then click on "Save Changes" button.
PS: If the option is not shown or greyed out, scroll up and click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable" link.

5. That's it. Restart your system and your reboot or shutdown problems should get fixed in Windows 8.

I'm truly at my ends dealing with this issue, and searching without luck for a fix. As stated above, I've got a 2015 era Lenovo Yoga 12 (S2?) 20DK that has been used on and off over the last 18 months. About 6 months ago it started; while flipping the screen from laptop mode to tablet mode, the screen will flicker a few times and after completing the transition to tablet the screen is off. Won't power up, nothing. Now during the act of flipping to tablet mode I can stop at certain points before folding it totally flat into tablet mode, and it will work fine (keyboard/mouse disabled, screen rotation works). There seems to be a sweet spot at about a 45 degree angle in tablet mode that it works fine. Even like that, if I even bump it a little more towards full on flipped back tablet mode, it'll shutdown. I've just been ignoring the problem for the most part but for a new job I started I need it to go into full tablet mode. Everything works fine in traditional Laptop Mode. I've tried updating the Driver, BIOS, and Windows.I've disabled the Sensor Data Service and Sensor Monitoring ServiceTried using a strong magnet on different points around bottom of bezel to "fool" any sensors Nothing is working. My gut always assumed this was hardware related due to a bad sensor of some sort but I cant find anything close to this issue using Google-Fu. I find that the fan generates too much noise on my Yoga 2 13 (not pro), even when the laptop is completely idle. It seems that somehow the temperature threshold for triggering the fan is set a bit too low (same problem seen on the lenovo yoga first version) However, I noticed that when I fold my Yoga into tablet mode the fan goes almost silent (which is awesome). Am I the only one experiencing this issue ? Is there maybe a way to set the fan speed in laptop, tent and stand mode at the same speed as in tablet mode ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards,Mat.

I was going to reccomend you use the Notebook fan control program, and I went to go find you a link for it.  However, when searching for it, I discovered that the Notebook fan control program doesn't work for the yoga 2 13 although it does work for my yoga 13.  It seems to be because the yoga 2 13 only has one fan while the yoga 13 has two fans.  I'm not sure. The best bet for you is to search around on forums to see if anyone has discovered a different program that works.  I tried searching around but I couldn't find anything. check at these two sites: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/755553-yoga-2-13-any-fan-control-software-works.ht... https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Yoga-2-13-non-Pro-Incredibly-loud-and-ru...

Ok... seems that disabling a Lenovo service called YMC (through the task manager) completely solves this issue with no negative effects. The service is in charge of disabling the keyboard in tablet mode etc., but it seems that it's redundant in Windows 10 (perhaps Windows controls this itself?). Disable, if it causes problems enable it again.

hi there Clean install of Windows 10 on a yoga 2 11.6". I installed Yoga Picks from the store but that does nothing. When changing to either tent or tablet mode, the screen rotates correctly, but Windows does not switch to Tablet mode, with larger start menu etc. The Windows settings for tablet mode are set to ask when switching, but nothing happens. so, I have to manually click tablet mode from Action Centre. With Yoga Picks installed on Win8, it would notify you that it was in tent mode etc, so I guess the app does not work on Win10. Is it possible to have Windows automatically detect tablet mode on this device? Other than that, Windows 10 is great on this machine (with an SSD upgrade). Thanks

Looking for help after searcing Control Panel, internet, and this forum.  Thanks in advance. How do you control or disable the automatic mode selection (i.e., laptop, tent, stand, tablet)?  My Yoga 2 thinks it is a tablet when I close the lid.  I usually close the lid when the computer is connected to an external monitor and key board.  This is my daily work routine.  The tablet software operation is not desired when trying to work as described.

Answer:Yoga 2: thinks its in tablet mode when lid is closed

Any update on this?

I've noticed a big difference in multimedia applications performance depending on whether the Yoga 13 is in laptop-mode or tablet-mode! I don't remember marketing mentioning anything about perforance being affected by in what mode the computer is used... Can anyone else please confirm this happens (measured with FRAPS)? Examples:Civilization V 3D-graphics laptop-mode: FPS ~25-30Civilization V 3D-graphics tablet-mode: FPS ~8-15 (unplayable)Civilization V 2D-graphics laptop-mode: FPS ~60Civilization V 2D-graphics tablet-mode: FPS ~301080p Youtube-video in Chrome in laptop-mode: FPS ~301080p Youtube-video in Chrome in tablet-mode: FPS ~2-10 (stuttering a lot)

Answer:FPS drops significantly in tablet mode on Yoga 13

From what I've read (by accident) in different articles throughout the net, the Yoga 13 throttles the CPU in tablet mode. Disabling the Intel Dynamic Platform Thermal Framework in the BIOS or uninstalling it in the list of programs will prevent you from the throttling. However, I'm not sure if this is healthy for the device as the framework isn't there for no reason.

I just bought a Lenovo Yoga 500 but id doesn't detect the different modes. It changed only two times but then it didn't change back. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Answer:Yoga 500 doesn't switch to tablet mode

Hi Heck,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

?

Also, Turns out there is a screen lock position button on the side. You might have pressed it by accident....that's what I did.

Let us know how you get on.
Regards,
Shashi

So, I'd like to do something a little complicated.  I know that the Yoga series actually knows when it is in each mode (Tablet, tent, etc), which is really cool, and so is the Lenovo transition program. But I'd like to do more. I'd love to be able to, say, change the size of icons, switch chrome to touch mode, and turn on/off the touchscreen keyboard when in a certain mode, among other things. I know that Windows Task Scheduler has a way to perform tasks on "Hardware Events", but I don't know if I could use that with this. What event would I use? If that is not possible, is there another way to do this? If this could be done in, say, Visual Basic or C++, I would be happy to make an app for this.  Thanks,Atravir

Hi, in tablet mode on the Yoga 900, the keyboard is split and I'm trying to figure out how set it so it isn't split.  There is a button in the bottom right corner of the right side of the keyboard that looks like a keypad, but nothing happens when I touch it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
