Question: Dell XPS 9350 Blank screen issue

New XPS 9350, been using it for about a month. Except the Thunderbolt connecting to a 4K display issue (sorted out with keeping the lappy in airplane mode and having internet access though USB 3-LAN cable) everything seemed very good. Until yesterday when on an important meeting the screen while working on battery power, the screen went blank. Tried to reset with holding the power button down for about 10 sec. The button LED and the keyboard lights cycled, but the screen remained blank (no DELL logo on boot as well). I connected the power adapter, the screen came on. Few moments later it went black again. Cycled the power, no response from the screen this time. I did a quick browse for solution and found a guy claiming that disabling C-State in the BIOS has fixed similar issue. The problem is that this time no matter how many times I reset though the power button the screen remains blank... Eventually after 20 min the screen appeared and I managed to get the BIOS changed (disabled C-State). The rest of the day the XPS was working fine and I tough the issue is gone. Until this morning, when I opened the lid and the screen was black again. So, back to square 1. After few minutes fighting with the power button and connecting the power adapter, the screen is on again. Obviously this is not sustainable, as I won't know whether on my next meeting the lappy won't let me down again. I'm slowly getting fed up by this Dell product, and although I really like it, issues like this are just not acceptable. I would like to hear your suggestions if possible, how to sort that out.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

I updated drivers on all devices, including setting the XPS to do nothing when lid is closed. External monitor works fine, until XPS lid is closed, then external screen blanks. However, monitor works fine in airplane mode, which does me no good, as I need an active internet connection for certain software functionality. Also, airplane mode disengages my wireless keyboard and mouse, and I need to turn connection back on and pair devices (wasting more of my time). Is there anyway around this issue, other than returning the TB16 for something that works?

I recently got a new Dell XPS 13. I like it very much but I have one single issue with it.
It gets hot when plugged in. I installed latest drivers and bios firmware but it's still annoying.
The main problem is that I searched for fan problems over net, I saw people are complaining about fan being too noisy on XPS 13 but I hear absolutely nothing from laptop. and now I'm wondering if it has a fan and it's working.
How do I know that the fan is working?

Hello, I am having trouble recently with my dell xps 13 9350. The computer starts up from OFF fine, however if I try to wake up the laptop after closing the lid or pressing the power button quickly (which in both cases causes the laptop to sleep) all i get is a blue screen with a loading wheel. The computer does not wake up and must be restarted by holding the power button for over 4 seconds. 
I have had this computer for two months and this is the first issue I've had with it. Hoping someone can help me resolve this issue. Thanks!

So I just recently noticed this problem. Every time I startup my system, that's when it occurs. It seems that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue since I've researched the issue and others are experiencing a similar situation. I tried playing some audio, but speakers seem to be fine. 
Anyone know a resolution?

I have a 3 year old XPS 13 (L321X) ultrabook that has a black/blank screen.  I hooked up the laptop to an external monitor via hdmi and it works fine. So it's the laptop screen that seems to be the problem.  I went through all the suggested troubleshooting from basic to advance. Holding the 'D' at start up, I hear 3 beeps.  If I can see the display on an external monitor, is it still a System board issue? Unfortunately, my warranty expired years ago, so trying to fix this the cheapest means possible.  Any help would be appreciated.

This is my second post regarding my XPS 13 9350 in one week, as it seems to be having lot of issues ! I was previously facing issue with sleep mode, it wasnt going to sleep at all. But after updating BIOS to 1.2.3, it sort of recovered from that problem.
Now, yesterday night I closed the lid with 65% battery life, expecting it to go to sleep(Set to go to sleep when lid off). In morning, when I reached the bag, I felt like the laptop was literally burning !!! It was so hot to touch, and the led light in front was giving orange/yellow in color !! When I opened the lid, the lock screen appeared, which shouldnt be the case as it should have been in hibernation,which indicates the machine was not off at all !! The battery life was indicating 7% !! From 65% to 7%, that too when was put to be off !
This are some serious concerns for a premium product like XPS 13 9350. I am expecting a proper solution to this malfunction issue of the product.

UPDATE : Ok , now the battery life has dropped down to 4 Hours 30 Minutes !! Also the device is really heating up while using, I can feel the heat at the edge of the display and keyboard. The bottom part is even more heated !  Please give a solution to this !

Hi all, after a lot of troubles and lookung for more solutions here some findings:
- Gfx performance - install GfX drivers from 14th April and it will perform as it should (also avail through Msft Win10 Update)
- flicker in screen - install GfX drivers from 14th April and it will perform as it should (also avail through Msft Win10 Update) & latest TB drivers
- coil whines - no solution found yet
- battery live - is the worst. I get 3-4h doing only eMail with 25-50% screen brighness. I ran some check tools and noticed that I have a constant voltage in the GPU (0,7V) which should actually go back down to 0 (at least all other 6th gen devices I have do that)
- fan is always spinning (balanced power setting) when plugged while only doing eMail (no streaming of music or similar)
- standby power issue - so solution found yet

Sad that you have to do this amount of beta testing on a very expensive laptop.  Unfortunately, as  business purchaser of many laptops for my company, I cannot spend this amount of time to figure out whey a brand new laptop, 10 minutes out of the box is flickering and crashing to a black screen multiple times.
Not only am I not going to make a third mistake by ordering a replacement, I'm looking at other vendors.

I have run into a problem with my Dell XPS 13 9350 laptop. I was deleting and uninstalling a few programs, hardware, files etc., when I accidentally uninstalled something that cut the connection between my laptop and modem. I have not been able to reconnect to the router, and my Dell USB multi-adapter is not with me so I cannot hard-wire an Ethernet cable the laptop, and have no connection to the internet. Any suggestions?

The Dell XPS 13 9350 system goes with two different options of wireless card. The Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 and the Dell Wireless 1820A. Use another system and please go to the our support site using this link, enter the service tag of the system. Under original system configuration, check for the wireless card. Then click on Driver and Downloads, choose the operating system. Click on the Network and download the file, transfer it on to a USB drive. Use this drive on the Dell XPS 13 9350 system, install the driver and check the status. You may also check the device manager to see, if there is any ! or ? mark in the list.

hello friends DELL users, can you help me? As I am getting older my eyes and neck are not in good condition. I decided to buy DELL monitor - Dell P2217H Professional and I realized there is no HDMI or DISPLAYPORT at my laptop. I bought port replicator DELL - Dell USB-C (M) na HDMI 2.0 (F).
Since I connected all above mentioned devices, my laptop went crazy. No chance to make it sleep and if I switch it off and on, it will not recognize being connected to external monitor. Sometimes laptop does recognize external monitor, but only duplicate the screen. Any advises pls?
Dell CS did not help so much. They sent technician to change MB and it is the same. I reinstalled WIN 10 (factory reset) and the problem persists.

I know the screen is working because I can access the BIOS on startup, and I can see the Dell Logo with the rotating dots when it begins the startup, but when it should be showing the Windows 10 login screen it's just black. I've tried typing my password to see if I get any feedback after logging in but nothing happened. Tried running the diagnostic test, nothing. Not sure if this is fixable or I'll have to get it fixed under warranty.

If I'm reading you correctly, you power on the system, you quickly start tapping the F12 key continuously but there wasn't no boot menu to run the diagnostic tool on the system?

Just received the XPS 13 (9350) last week and I've been having some intermittent black screen flickering that normally occurs in short bursts of 4-5 short black outs within a span of two or three seconds. Tech support updated all the drivers and such, but I'm still experiencing the issues. Has anyone had similar issues and possible solutions?
I looked at previous posts and the screen flickering is not where it actually distorts things on screen, it literally just looks like it flashes on and off. Any help is appreciated!

I have that problem and when it starts happening randomly, whenever I click on the Wireless Icon in windows 10, it suddenly happens again. I turned of wireless adapter in settings and to my surprise, the problem stopped!!

I am busy finding my way with a new Dell XPS 13 (9350). Many of the programmes I have display very well, but sometimes they programmes that load are so small that you need a magnifying glass to navigate your way around the screen.
Microsoft Office, for example, has no issues,
When I load my Adobe Photoshop Elements, the display is so small that I can hardly see anything.

How do I go about setting up the display so that it is easily readable? The attached screenshots hopefully illustrate the problem I'm having.
Sometimes - even in my browser - one section of the browser will display legibly, but another section of the screen (possibly linked to a java application) will display incredibly small.

I have the same problem. Auto cad tool bars are unreadable. Google Earth has same issues and very large text for state names. The drag icon is very small. Maps program will not show roads when zoomed in. i have heard this is a windows 10 issue, but I don'r believe it. I have two desk tops running windows 10 and all works well.

I got my Dell XPS 13 9350 for almost 02 years. I'm re-facing with the problem of Intel graphich HD 520 again: horrizontal striped on my screen and unable to see anything.
I got this once time for nearly 01 year ago. Fortunately, after I reinstall a driver, this problem was gone. I can not remember which driver version I got that time. Now, I updated the lateset driver for graphic and have this issue.
Could you please to tell me how can I fix this issue ? The best suitable driver to fix it. My laptop was run out of warranty and I am in Africa for my project. Everything relating was in my laptop, so I'm stucking right now. Tks a lot for your helps.

Recently, my XPS 13 (9350) with Touch screen will just boot to a black lcd screen. I have a dual boot with Windows 10 and Ubuntu. When I turn the system on, I can get past the dell logo to the operating system select screen. However, once I got past that screen, it just becomes a black screen. The only way to get it to work was to use an external monitor. When I used an external monitor, I did notice that the touch screen still worked despite the laptop lcd showing no image.
Since, it was happening on both operating systems, I suspected a hardware problem. I found a post on this forum that suggested running the lcd diagnostic, which showed no errors. Another poster said swivel/jiggle the laptop screen up and down. When I did that, the lcd screen image came back. I think there must be a loose connection somewhere or maybe a wire in the hinge is starting to fray?
Just how bad is this issue? Will it get worse? I have owned this laptop for almost one year already and warranty is probably still good for 2 weeks or so.

Seen a few people seem to have almost similar problems. Rather than the whole screen flickering though, it is just the lower third of the screen and its flickering aswell as not updating - i.e. totally useless.
Tried updating the drivers, restoring to before the last system update and no change. Seems like it is not a screen hardware thing since it will briefly stop if I tax the system more.
Any fixes or will I be returning it?

On power-up, the built-in display shows the Dell logo then goes to a black screen.  If I attach an external monitor via a DA200, I can see the Windows 10 login screen and log in. 
The only way to have Windows show in the built-in display is to disable the Intel Iris Graphics 540 entry in Device Manager.  When I do this, I am unable to display to the second monitor/change the brightness of the screen, Windows has no sleep option, and etc...
I've re-installed Windows 10 multiple times and all with the latest drivers from the Dell website.
Can someone from Dell conclusively say whether the black screen is a hardware or software issue?

Since I purchased this laptop under two years ago I've had so many problems with it I've lost count.  It regularly gets bricked after Windows forced updates, most recently a few days ago.  I tried reinstalling Windows and managed it a couple of times but after a while the screen just goes black. The most recent time, the screen went black during re-installation so I now can't even finish the installation (and you can't do this in Safe Mode).  I know Windows is still trying to install as I can hear Cortana trying to set up.  But now I can't see anything in order to finish the installation so I'm stuck, unable to do anything.  I have no external monitor I can use but in any case, if this is a hardware issue, this is not a fix.
I've run diagnostics via F12 a few times and it shows no hardware issues but who knows, it could be.  Since I bought this, Dell have replaced almost all the hardware inc. motherboard and SSD. I'm not sure what else but I noticed today in BIOS in the log dated May 2016 (one of the times it was 'repaired') that it states, "...primary battery is not identifiable...". 
Before the black screen issue there were wifi problems too, none of the available network-related drivers worked.  
I am well out of my warranty now and close to buying a Mac but if anyone knows the cause of this black screen and can help, please let me know!  When this laptop works, it's ama... Read more

It could very well be that you have a "lemon". Just like with cars.
It seems that you have tried every way to fix it and cannot.
I would not put any more money into it.
Chalk it up as a lesson learned.
Your experience is precisely why I tell people with new Dells that do not work right to return it.
Do not try to fix it.

I bought a Dell XPS 13 2016 (9350) FHD, i5, 8GB, 256GB and two weeks ago i received it. It has a great hardware but software is not very optimized and I have a frustrating issue with the display: it flickers everytime i turn the Bluetooth on and stays on. I cannot figure why but I really hope it's a software issue because is very sporadic, at the moment it never happened today, I really don't know what to do.

Hi Team,
I just purchased Dell XPS 9350. Whenever I do full shutdown then boot, always video, audio (both online and local videos) via any browser, VLC, movies & tv app are not playing and its keep loading. It will resolve once I restart the system, so its consistantantly happening after every full shutdown then boot.

I found that it's because of Realtek HD Audio driver  (V6.0.1.7829) and system working perfectly after rolling back to HD Audio Device default driver. Please fix this.

When I connect my Dell XPS 13 9350 laptop with QHD display to an external monitor through the DA200 USB-C to HDMI connector the external monitors flicker constantly (laptop is fine-no flickering). Sometimes it works for like an hour then starts to flicker or longer so its not consistent. Below are the troubleshooting steps Dell has walked me through (including sending me a new DA200 part) to no avail:
- Dell has sent me a new DA200 USB C to HDMI part
- They have upgraded the Thunderbolt drivers and all other relevant drivers to latest ones (as of June 15 2016)
- I have tried on different monitors (5-6) and tried different HDMI cables.
Dell doesnt seem to know what to do now. THey have refunded my DA200 part purchase and told me to buy a separate HDMI to USB-C cable to test. If that fails it seems they will replace the motherboard. They say it could be an issue with the external monitors not being compatible with QHD, but this is not documented anywhere (they admit) and I havent heard anyone else having this problem on the internet and surprised every single person using this setup has QHD external monitors. This is an unworkable situation for me as I work in PC labs all day connected to external monitors.
Any advice?

My xps 13 9350 laptop screen is just blank but when I hook up an external monitor it shows everything. I went to my display settings and it doesn't even recognize a second display, for some reason it thinks the external monitor is the main screen. When I click "detect" it doesn't detect a second display.
I have booted in safe mode and everything works on the actual laptop but otherwise it only boots with a an external display.
Any help would be appreciated.

My Inspiron is doing the same thing on the opposite side. A common problem that Dell refuses to recognize.
Dell support told me it was my fault.

I would like to ask for your assistance because I'm already out of ideas how to resolve this issue. Right after I powered up the laptop, it will get past the DELL logo screen, then it will be completely just black screen. I wouldn't even hear any activity from the CPU fan, HDD and pressing the Caps Lock doesn't lit up the LED. The LED indicators on the side are only displaying the power indicator, but none for HDD, Battery and Wireless.
Here are the steps that I have done so far:
1) Removed the HDD and Battery, then press & hold the power button for at least 45-60 seconds to disperse the internal voltage. Then attach the Battery, but not the HDD.
2) Press and hold Fn and then the Power button, hoping to boot me up to the ePSA Diagnostic Utility
3) Press F2 or F12 while booting up
4) Re-seat the memory and also clean with a dry tissue
These are the procedures that I have done but nothing has changed. It still displays blank screen right after the DELL logo.

I'm having no luck installing windows 10 from USB drive onto new ssd I installed in Dell i3050 mini pc. I tried with UEFI mode including Secure boot disabled or enabled as well as legacy mode.
The install goes throw and then it hangs on the first boot at Dell's logo.
Any help would be appreciated? I don't know if I should contact tech support.

I got a laptop and stopped using my desktop pc. When i came to use it one day the Dell Screen would boot and then it would go blank. I pressed F8 and then selected safe mode then I got a list of html starting with:multi(0)disk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exeand this is followed with more htmlI thought I had all of my son's baby pictures saved to a cd but the cd only has other files that mean nothing to me. I need to save the baby pictures!!! Any help would be awesome!

I have found one of the best way to get info off of a windows computer that won't boot, is with a Linux live cd. Mount the windows hard drive, insert flash drive, transfer pictures or whateverto your flash drive.

Question: dell xps 9350 ssd


I'm about to pull the trigger on a dell xps 13. Can anyone tell me if I order the 8gb model with the i5 6200u FHD screen which comes with a 256gb SSD, can someone tell me what model of SSD this is? Is it a Samsung SM951 (uk model)? I understand it is PCIE based, but does the controller run in AHCI or NVME? I am thinking of putting a 950 pro in there (I understand these drives are nearly identical in terms of performance but I'd like to be able to use the Samsung magician software and turn on rapid mode and overprovisioning. has anyone used the samsung magician software with a 950 pro drive? is there any difference in real world performance between an ahci drive and a nvme drive under normal usage?

Question: Dell XPS 13 9350

I have just bought this Dell XPS 13 9350 within the past few months. One day the touchscreen started to constantly click on the screen, sometimes without stopping. The only way I am able to get this "ghost clicking" to stop is either restarting the laptop (hoping the problem doesn't persist)or, sometimes I get lucky by just pressing the touch screen on random spots and it seems to stop the clicking. Is this a hardware problem or can I somehow fix this problem other than messing with the hardware?

Having some issues with my Inspiron 1520... I had hooked it up to an external display via the S-Video output, went through the normal routine except this time the display did not show up on the TV. I had to restart the computer using the power button, but when it restarted the screen no longer shows up, just get a blank black screen. The Power and Numlock displays are lit up and I've tried connecting to the TV again as well as to a external monitor to no avail.

Hello and Welcome! It may be that your video card driver has become corrupt during the aforementioned process. Try booting into safe mode. (Do so by tapping the F8 key while the computer is booting).. If it will boot into safe mode then go to Device manager (right click 'My Computer', choose Properties/Hardware Tab/Device Manager) and uninstall the Display adapter. Restart the pc and Windows will re-install it. You may have to set the proper resolution again. Good Luck!

My son has a Dell latitude D531 Laptop but can`t get the screen to work.
The power is working and laptop fully charged ,the Fan is working fine but the screen is completely blank does not turn on or anything.

If you do not see any image on your screen, you need to check if the backlight of the LCD screen is the problem. Try performing the flash light test, get a flash light and focus it to your LCD screen try to check if you can see a faint image. If you do, then you need to have the backlight or the whole LCD screen replace. Now if you do not see any faint image while using a flash light, try to connect an external monitor to your laptop to check if you can get an image.

suddenly my laptop screen has gone blank, though i could hear the windows program opening up. i connected to an external monitor and saw the text and images correctly and from my laptop typing screen. i could use the laptop keyboard again efficiently.I went to appearances and changing the settings did not work.i enlisted the support of an I.T. specialist but he gave up.Also sometimes the resolution goes to its 600x ? settings and will not allow a change but then it does after rebooting.Is this a hardware or software problem ?

helping my sister out with her dell inspiron 1521 laptop. For about a year now, she's had a screen issue. When the computer is turned on, it starts loading like normal. After entering password i can see the windows logo and loading bar on the bottom middle of the screen. Right before the desktop loads up the screen goes black. I have talked to dell, changed settings, and read alot of forums on the internet. Some say it's the hard drive has crashed, some say replace the monitor, replace the video card, some says bad video adapter. i've tried changing hard drive, tried hooking up to two different monitors and tv's but all end up doing the same thing; going black after starting up. It runs fine in every mode except running normally. The only way to run normal windows is let it go to black screen and hit control, atl, delete. go to task manager and then hit new task. enter EXPLORER.EXE. As soon as i enter that command and hit enter/ok, my desktop pops right on. Any other suggestions on how to correct this issue as i am tired of doing over and over again? the OS is windows Vista basic with AMD Turion 64x2.

From the description there's nothing wrong with the hardware, just windows settings. Best bet would probably be a new clean install or factory restore (Dell's usually have a recovery partition you can access from probably the vista safe mode menu - but the Dell documentation on their site would tell you exactly how to use the restore mechanism). You would need to backup any data first as restore will wipe the drive (and obviously any software installed since will need to be reinstalled).Other than that, I think you'd need a professional to troubleshoot the problem and they may still recommend the same course of action (I am a professional, but haven't seen the machine).

I have a Dell M6700
I can turn machine on but laptop screen is blank.
When I plug in VGA I can obtain video - although I do not know if this is on-board graphics or the Quadro M4000
For all I know, it could be:-
1. Graphics card is toast - needs replacing (£500 at least)
2. Screen - The screens on these have a  BIOS which is known to corrupt, meaning it needs to be replaced.
- The screen does not even glow, shimmer or backlight at all .. not a glimmer. 
3. BIOS - I think there have been some BIOS updates that cause issues.
I ran the built in ePSA Pre-boot System Assessment (by pressing Fn and Power button)
- Results were I could view in VGA monitor, but nothing interesting came up. 
A. What tests could / should I run
B. What could causes be, and how do I step-by-step uncover

I'm happy to work interactive and go back and try things out that people here suggest!

i have some issues with my Dell XPS 13 (9350) and Dell TB16. I connected a 4K Monitor on the MiniDP Port and another 1080P Monitor on the HDMI Connector. I get constant dropout of my 4K Monitor, like every 1-2h min. the screen goes black and after a few moment the video comes back. Updating everything to latest BIOS, TB Firmware, Video Drivers does not working. I tried to disable TB security in BIOS but this doesnt help either.I tested my TB16 with another device, this time it is my company Lenovo P50. Everything works great with this device, no video dropouts, i tested this several ours.
So what is wrong with the Dell XPS13 and Thunderbolt?

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on Dell XPS 9350. To be able to do that, I needed to install the usb 3.0 drivers (the laptop doesn't have any usb 2.0 ports and the usb 3.0 can't be change to usb 2.0 from the bios) into the Windows 7 installation on my usb stick.

The problem is that Windows can't identify the ssd. So I figured it was the motherboard chipset drivers that I needed to install, so that it could identify the nvme controller itself. The problem is that when I extract the driver, there are no .inf or .cab drivers. There are a lot of files without any extensions and basically the driver seems to be installable only on a functional installed operating system.

Any ideas how I could get a readable driver that I could browse to during the Windows 7 installer?

I don't see anything on the Dell downloads for this model for Win 7. They have Win 10 and Win 8.1 drivers. Even if you get Win 7 installed I doubt that all the devices on the laptop are going to work.

I've seen other try to install Win 7 on a new system that is not designed for Win 7 and of the ones I've seen none have been successful and give up and keep their original OS.

Best option, if you can return the Dell, is to buy one that has Win 7 or that you can backward install Win 7 on it (and all devices work).

I have an old Dell Inspiron 5150 (circa 2003) that I am trying to rebuild. The original problem was the famous Blue Screen of Death and I have not yet replaced the hard drive. After working with it for a while (admittedly, opening it up) I no longer have a display and since I couldn't get anything to display when connecting an external monitor either, I assumed it was the video card. I have replaced the video card and now upon pressing the power button the screen will flash (briefly light up) and then it goes black. The fans and everything run, the green light displays on the front as well but I have no idea what's going on - I still can't connect an external monitor either. I have removed and reinstalled the RAM w/ no changes.

I don't need the unit to have a bunch of bells and whistles - no Call of Duty or WOW - just hoping to get it running so my dad can use it to check mail and browse the internet.

Can someone help me out --- are all the problems caused by the hard drive? bad motherboard? Prior to the BSoD there were no issues with the laptop. Where do I go from here?

My integrated webcam suddenly stopped working. Inspiron-15-5559-laptop. It displays a blank screen both for image capture or video capture. At times it suddenly works, however, I see horizontal or vertical lines. (not pixels but lines) 
I  uninstalled the driver and  let windows 10 update it.  This did not solve the issue. 
I ran the dell diagnostics tools for webcam. It said webcam is functioning normally. However, in the details section it said RGB color dept test WARNING. I am sure the lines that I see at times does indicate something is wrong  with RGB. 
I do not know if the above is software issue or hardware? Yesterday I just pushes my screen to greater angle and made it almost flat. Webcam starting functioning normally. But today again the same issue has started.
Any kind help to resolve this issue will be highly appreciated.

Having some issues with my Inspiron 1520... I had hooked it up to an external display via the S-Video output, went through the normal routine except this time the display did not show up on the TV. I had to restart the computer using the power button, but when it restarted the screen no longer shows up, just get a blank black screen. The Power and Numlock displays are lit up and I've tried connecting to the TV again as well as to a exernal monitor to no avail.

I've had a lot of problems with the video card prior to this and I've had it replaced once and unfortunately my warranty is expired. Just trying to figure out if this is a hardware issue or a problem with the external options. Any help is appreciated.

My daughter has a Dell Insprion 8100 notebook running Windows XP Home Edition. When she started the computer this morning the screen remains blank although the PC appears to be starting up - can't tell what's happening since the screen is blank although the disk is being accessed as evidenced by the flashing keyboard lights. The problem seems to have started when she plugged in the battery charger. At first, the PC would start under battery power normally, but that has stopped. Even under battery power the symptom is the same - a blank screen that flashes intermittently, but displays nothing else. Can someone offer some advice. Of course she is scheduled to go back to college next week and uses her notebook extensively. Thanks.

I have a dell inspiron 9100 with windows xp home and i was having this problem with my screen being blank when i booted it, you could hear the hard drive making noises but the screen was blank. The screen would eventually come on after waiting a while and rebooting a few times. Now the screen will not turn on at all, i've checked the lid close button and that isnt stuck. My only thoughts are that its the video card, but im just hoping it isnt. If anyone has any thoughts let me know.

why don't you try a fresh clean instalation of windows?

then if the problem persist, the problem will be on the screen alone

-Expired Warranty

-Turn on laptop, blank screen, backlight still works.

-Hard-drive light blinks a bit but its hard to tell if the OS is actually loading. I can't hear any start-up noises but I don't know if the laptop is muted or not.

Hi My Dell Inspiron 1000 switches on OK and all the rights light up and the battery is charging OK. On switch on, the fan runs and HDD light stays on between 10 seconds or over a minute and the latter is unable to switch off by depressing Start button.
There is no screen activity whatever either on the display or when attached to a working monitor. Suggestions please of likely cause.

Sounds like your graphics chip has died. With a laptop because most video chips can not be replaced or a graphics card can not be added, your best bet is to sell off the parts and save for a new notebook/netbook.

Hi everyone

In need of help. Started up my laptop and I am greeted by a blank screen, though the machine goes through the motions of starting up. When connected to an external monitor all works fine, and I have tried changing the inverter, but no luck.

Ran a diagnostic check, and receive the following:

Error Code 0321
Msg: Error Code 2000-0321
Msg: LCD EDID - Unable to access EDID EEPROM

Would anyone be able to restore my sanity, and offer some words of wisdom/guidance?

When I turn on the laptop the blacklight is turning on but no pictures of the WindowsXP bootup screen or the logon screen... When pressing F8 the screen will flash and you can see the images... Was able to log on..... and when pressing F8; I could see the desktop...

On my Dell laptop Latitude D620 running XP. 
I've been getting messages that my Firefox has been running slow. I followed the recomendations last week - clearing cache and stuff like that. I've been better about powering off at night vs. my usual leave it on all the time. 
But yesterday - Tuesday and especially today - Wednesday, the screen has been going blank and or rebooting without cause and or locking up, causing me to power off frequently. So frequently I have to use another computer to post this. 
Before giving up today I ran Super Anti-Spyware, Malwarebytes and Avast Anti-virus. The only program to find anything was the first, and it only found ad-tracking.
I found a book USB from a couple years ago when I was here last and booted up to XPud. 
It has stayed on - no problems for the last half hour at the XPud screen, which, by the time I gave up on my Dell, would have been impossible to go for that long problem free.
XPud ran through some stuff and here are the results:

Few month ago my motherboard had passed away so I've decided to order new one for my inspiron 7720 17R se. Few days ago I've assembled it and hopped that everything will be ok but not.. When I turn on my laptop I see all the lights are turned on (indicators) but the screen is black and blank + the fan isn't working. I've turned off the laptop and held the power button for 15-20 sec and the laptop had turned on but stucked on the windows logon screen and nothing happens... I turned the laptop off again and it hadn't turned on again with the same symptom from the beginning(black screen) after few attempts to turn it on I've managed to turn it on again and ran the diagnostics. the check was successful and the fan was working although the cpu temp was very high 70*c. also the display check was successful (D pressing). what it can be?
Maybe the bios need to be updated? but if so how can I do it if I'm not able to run windows!

Dell inspiron 15 5000 turns on with all the lights but doesn't show anything not even the dell logo. Sometimes the screen flickers at the bottom. When I try to boot the laptop(dellE7240 win 8.1) it shows fell logo and windows logo but after that just a blank screen with cursor. Advance boot option doesn't show any safe mode option. Interesting enough when last night I shut it down. The power, wifi and the system light were on for quite a while. I did shut it down by clicking shut down and not pressing the power button. Can any help on how to boot the laptop? Or what could the problem be?

several things to try - the led's are a telling sign of a problem.. the black screen with flashing cursor is the OS was not found..

remove any CD/DVD's from drive slots
F2 into your Bios setting a reset the system defaults and verify HDD by bios
verify System Memory is seen and correct in bios

lastly remove and reseat memory sticks and HDD in PC

I have a Dell XPS 13 9333 from 2014. The computer has a dual Windows Linux installation, and has aways worked perfectly. Some days ago, I started up the laptop and there was no Dell logo or anything in the screen, although the backlight was working. I though the computer was totally broken.
After connecting it to an external monitor, I realized that the computer was actually working, but somehow the LCD was not receiving any image. I tried booting the computer in the LCD-test mode (pressing D at startup) and the screen seems to work fine. I also opened the computer to check whether the LCD was correctly connected to the motherboard, and it looked fine to me.
I don´t know what to think now. Because if the LCD test is run internally by the LCD integrated chip, then my guess would be that the problem is in the graphic card. If on the other hand the test is performed by the graphic card, then I would think is a problem with the LCD conector or cable. Last but not least: The computer sends images when connected to an external monitor once has loaded Linux. But since that is drivers dependent, I am not sure what does that says about the state of the graphic card.
Any advice or coment would help. The laptop is still quite powerful, and I would like to repair it. I wouldn´t like to buy a new screen or a motherboard and that the problem was somewhere. Could it be some problem with the ACPI? Also, can somebody tell me how much it would be to take the computer to a dell ... Read more

I have a Dell vostro 2520 and it does not show any info about starting up on the screen although it makes the startup sound. I have also tried connecting an hdmi cable to an external monitor still no use. Have run the dell PSA as well, it makes the sounds but no display.

Does the system overheat? Were there any bluescreen / system crashes?
Connect an external monitor via VGA cable and check.
When you ran psa - did you encounter any beeps? If so, please specify the exact # of beeps at that would help isolate the source of the issue.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info -
If there is no display on both LCD and external monitor, however, the LCD self test passes, then replace the motherboard. 
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call -
My personal suggestion is that you invest your money on a new machine than to repair this system. However, that is your discretion.

I have a Dell Inspiron B130 that all of a sudden started having issues at start up. When I start the the laptop, sometimes, not all the time, the screen will go blank at different times during start up. Sometimes it will do it as the dell screen comes on, sometimes when the Windows Screen comes on. Once it does it, it will stay that way until I shut it down by holding down the power button. I see that the screen goes blank, I will shut it down before it completely starts up. When I restart it, it will start up and go to the screen that says that the computer did not shut down correctly, and it asks how I want to continue. If I choose, 'Start Windows Normally' it will start up and the screen is fine. Other than the start up, I have had the laptop left idle long enough for the power save to shut down the screen, where it wouldnt come back on. I disabled all of those power options until I see what other options I have to fix it. I have the experience in computer repair andc I replaced the motherboard in the laptop about a year ago, and have had no problems since. I made sure when I had the problem a few days ago, that all the screen connections were good. They seemed to be fine, so I replaced the keyboard and screen bezel. Does anyone have any ideas of what I may try. Of course the laptop is almost 4 years old and out of warranty. It may just come down to new laptop time, but I have enough spare parts to basically rebuild the whole computer....other than the scree... Read more

The screen on my dell inspiron 7000 went blank. I connected an external monitor and it worked for a while and then it went blank too. The monitor was quite old however and I wondered if it died in the moment as well. Subsequently I reasoned that something could be wrong with the video card or motherboard, but how to check? I could buy another laptop but I have a desktop and I am intrigued to see if I can fix it. Any ideas?

Recently, my laptop had got a corrupted Windows 10 Boot OS problem. I took it to the Dell service centre and they told me I'll get Windows 8.1 as it was what it originally came with. I was okay with it. When, I got back my laptop, I upgraded all my driver's as usual after a clean install. I upgraded my Intel Graphics but after which I couldn't access the control panel. I decided to roll back. After sometime, I decided to retry upgrading the drivers and during which my screen went completely blank and wouldn't show anything even after force restart It would just show the Dell logo and load last it but only to find blank screen. I ran diagnostic and everything showed that it was working. The BIOS was also loading. I tried going into safe mode but then also my screen wouldn't show anything other then the mouse disappearing and reappearing when I moved it. Here are the specs of my laptop:

Have had this notebook for a while and have never had any problems, until this morning!

Switched on as normal but NOTHING on the screen!! - running from mains power and all lights seem to be working ok.

Can't even switch it off, the stand by light just stays on.

I'd be grateful if you could help troubleshoot an issue with my samsung r20 laptop. I'm typing this message from my iPhone which, as you can imagine, is quite tiresome.

The laptop isloaded with vista and has been working fine for nearly 2 years. A few days ago I turned it on one morning and there was a blank screen and no other activity. The power is on and it makes the same noises like it's attempting to boot but the hdd light never comes on and I can't here the drive spinning. I therefore can't even get to the bios screen.

My question is - is this a hdd problem or a screen problem? If it's a hdd issue how do I go about confirming that and possibly recovering the data?

A hard drive issue would not affect your ability to get into bios. You do not even need a hard drive connected to enter bios. try plugging it into a monitor to see if yours has gone out.

Hello all,

My brothers computer is running windows 7 home edition and has been working great since he upgraded a couple months ago. To his dismay this morning when he went to use it the screen was blank with a movable mouse cursor, after a forced restart upon rebooting there was no windows loading screen of any kind just an almost instant blank screen with a movable mouse cursor. I am fairly computer savy so i tried to press f8 to see if i could get access to safe mode. Every force restart leads to the same thing even when i put the windows installation disk to see if it could boot up to the disk for a repair. If its any help i tried to press SHIFT 5 times to see if the "Sticky keys" window would pop up and it did. Any ideas?

my Dell XPS 9350 does not boot at all. It is a brand new laptop that crashed while Windows 10 Updates were applied so I had to restart it. On restart, all that I got was a black display. Not even the Dell logo shows up so I cannot go into the bios settings or change the boot mode,...
The display seems to work as I run the display test and the colors show up but once the test is done, all that I get is the black screen. 
Dell Support now offered me to send a technical guy to repair the laptop but the problem is that they do not yet have the new XPS 13 in their support list and needed 3 days to update their database. Now it turns out that they do not have some components and will not come until they have everything. Dell is not able to tell me how long this will take (very strange from my point of view). 
Now my problem is that I would urgently need this laptop so that  I would like to avoid the option to simply send it back and order a new one. 
So if there is someone that has a clue if this can be solved by some trick without having to change a hardware I would be glad. 
As mentioned already, I did the system tests that I found in the forums but the only thing that worked was the display test. 
It is the 9350 using an Intel Core i7 and the 512 GB SSD using the PCI slot.

Are there any beeps when the unit tries to boot?  Beep codes can help indicate what parts may have a problem.

I've recently been looking into buying an eGPU Enclosure such as the AKiTiO Node or the Razer Core. I've updated all the firmware and now I am running Thunderbolt Software Version The Node and Core both specify that the computer needs to both have Thunderbolt 3 (which I have) and be compatible with external graphics. What does this mean? I have Thunderbolt 3, so wouldn't it be theoretically possible to run external graphics provided the firmware was up to date?
So in summary, my main question is this: Will/can the Dell XPS 13 9350 be able to use eGPU enclosures over Thunderbolt 3 now (or in the future if there is firmware updates being planned)?

-Description of problem-I recently purchased a Dell XPS 9350 (Windows 10) laptop. Often the touchpad completely ceases to function. This happens randomly 10-60 minutes after using the machine normally. Sometimes disabling the touchpad in Device Manager and re-enabling it will fix the issue temporarily. Sometimes this is not sufficient, but a restart of the machine will fix the issue temporarily. Sometimes this is not sufficient, and 5 or 6 restarts are required to get the touchpad to function again.-Attempted resolutions-* Ensuring that all device drivers are up to date and that the latest updates from Windows Update are installed* Installing the generic Synaptics touchpad drivers instead of the Microsoft Precision ones (as suggest in various other forums describing issues with the XPS touchpad). The synaptics driver functions, but the same issue remains.* Resetting Windows - clean reset choosing to remove all programs but keep personal files.* Running the Windows Hardware Troubleshooter - this detects that there is an issue reinstalls the touchpad drivers. So, my ultimate goal is to connect a Firewire 800 device (medical instrument) via thunderbolt. I got my hands on two Apple thunderbolt adapters, first a TB 3 to TB 2, and then a TB 2 to Firewire 800.

When I connect the TB 3 to TB 2, Windows says "Try improving the USB connection" and it links me to this page. Opening the thunderbolt software shows no connected devices. I have the latest drivers that I am aware of, software package version I have BIOS version 1.4.10. I have disabled the thunderbolt security in BIOS and enabled the boot related thunderbolt options.

What else can I do? Thankful for help!

I've got an XPS 13 9350 with a clean install of Windows 10 on it on Bios 1.2.3.  The touchpad has a couple of issues:
1) Bouncy when scrolling.  In a web browser, when using two fingers to scroll down, upon releasing the screen jumps back up a bit - occasionally jumps to the top of the page again.  This is best described is this post, but with no resolution: 
2) Tap to click sometimes stops working.  When this happens if I wiggle a finger on the pad a bit and try again, it starts working again.
3) Click drag releases by itself.  More often than not, if I click and hold the button on the touchpad to move a file, it releases before the button is released.  Its almost impossible to move emails between folders in outlook due to this behaviour.
Are these common issues?  Could I have faulty hardware?  I've run the Dell update utility, but apparently my system is up to date.Any pointers appreciated!

Hi, I had scrolling issues specifically in Chrome when the XPS13 9350 came out In November. The Windows 10 TH2 update fixed that however. I would assume you have already updated Windows?

Literally anything I do the max is .78 GHz and I can barely watch a YouTube video because I am barely even using the processor. The laptop is so slow because of it. I have tried basically everything, disabling speed step in bios, adjusting power options, updating bios, updating drivers, etc.. Please help me.

They seem to stay at the lower speed more than you might think.  While at this speed do you see the CPU utilization maintaining levels?
You state your tried different Power Schemes, have you tried the High Performance for testing?  If the speed does not increase when you select it you might want to try a reboot.

Dear all,
I have recently purchased a new DELL XPS 13 9350 and a Dell Docking Station D3100, this combinations is for enterprise use and i would like to boot latpop over PXE in order to deploy our OS .
I tried to do this and enable all the Bios functions for this but the docking station doesnt recognized when laptop boot up .
Also i have updated to latest BIOS,any ideas or advises on these issue will be appreciated .

I have a new Dell XPS 13 9350 (only a few months old)... I noticed that the Microphone is not working in any applications I try.  I have gone through the Dell diagnostic as well as the Windows 10 diagnostics but nothing seems to fix the issue.
I am running the latest drivers ( from the Dell support web site.  
I have tried to remove the Realtek drivers and go with the native Windows 10 HD Audio Drivers.   This did appear to fix the issue, but then I updated the BIOS to 1.3.3 and now it doesn't work again.  Not sure if the BIOS update broke it or it was just a coincidence and it would have failed after a reboot anyway.  I may attempt to role back the bios and see what happens.
I don't believe it is a hardware issue as I have seen the mic working fine with the Windows 10 drivers.
Has anyone else seen this problem or have a solution?
The problem is I don't know if the MIc was working from the beginning.  The day I got the laptop I update the drivers from the website right away.  I work in IT and always like to have the latest drivers.

I have a DELL XPS 13 9350 2016. I purchased it about 7 months ago.
I am getting this issue just today. It takes forever for the laptop too boot after I type my password in. Also, it takes forever to start the starting programs. Its so slow that I can't even post about it using the laptop.
Does anyone know what to do about this?
Also, how long does it usually take to get technical help?

Are there any bluescreens / system crashes? Is there any damage on the system?
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional. Also, run an extended / thorough tests on the HDD and memory to check for any possible errors. 
If the system is under warranty, we can help book a service call if the hardware has an issue and needs to be replaced.

When the laptop is charging and being used, its temperature goes up higher than when not charging around 15 Celsius. I have tried monitoring the temperature during charging while playing games, the laptop is overheating and it went up to 94 Celsius then I tried to plug a laptop power adapter out, it went down to around 83 Celsius. It would always be like this. Another problem is the power adapter gets very hot during charging even in sleeping mode or playing games. I can't touch it!. Moreover, my screen is flicker sometimes while I'm playing games and displays that "display driver stop responding and has recovered"
My drivers are up to date. BIOS: 1.3.3

Download and reinstall the video drivers from the support site -
If you still encounter the video driver crashes, then restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. If there are no errors, then restart the system and within windows - run a stress test on the system -
Restart the system and press f2 to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS.
Test the system with another adapter if possible. For the screen flickering issue, after updates and tests, if the issue still persists, then connect an external monitor and check for flickering on the LCD and the external monitor - this will help isolate if the source of the issue.

A week ago this problem started , when the computer is booting and plugged in it stops at the Dell Supportassist
"Alert The power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available."
When I  click on Diagnostics and I get "testing completed . One or more errors but doesn't say what the issue is. I've run this about 5 times with same results.  
I am using the proper power cord, I run it without being plugged in a lot.  
Now the battery will not hold a charge and only works if it's plugged in and at 1%
I do not want to open it up while it's under warranty

If the system is still under warranty, call Dell for repair.
They'll first replace the AC adapter with a new OEM Dell unit.  If that doesn't solve the problem,
They'll replace the DC power jack:
And if that doesn't solve the problem, it's the mainboard that needs to be replaced.

HeyI'm seriously considering buying the XPS 13 QHD, but i'm a bit interested in what kind of battery life people are getting. If the battery life is much better with the FHD I might consider sacrificing touch and QHD for better battery life. Would be nice if it could last through a 8 hour working day.
Would any of you guys mind posting the windows battery report or any thing similar?

Hello Everyone,

Sorry for the double post, but a new situation has come up. This morning I closed the lid on my laptop without powering it down. My laptop has the "close the lid" action set to "do nothing", so the computer definitely did not sleep/hibernate. When I returned in the afternoon, I was greeted with the Dell splash screen, indicative that the computer's crashed again. I ran Who Crashed once more, and this time the BSOD was caused by a "CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION" with ntkrnlmp.exe once again.

I've attached another zip folder with the dump files, but I am not sure how to delete the dump files, so the ones from this morning are on there as well.

Hello all, I just purchased a 9350, win 10 Pro , 4GB ram, 128 SSD. I noticed that the Battery Icon would stop charging at 80%. Shows Connected , not charging at the 80% mark. I have read on the Forums about this being an issue on this 9350! SEEMS TO ME THAT THE BATTERY SHOULD ALWAYS CHARGE UP TO 100%!
So I innstalled the latest 9350 Bios and Power management drivers updates from the Dell seb site.
I thought that would correct the issue but it didnt!
Dell XPS 13 9350 battery cstill stops charging at 80%!!!
I performed the Dell ePSA F12 Diagnostic tests and the battery results are as follows.
Charge cycles 13
Battery Health 93%
Voltage 8420 millivolts, current 2717 ma. 
I have also read that after some 9350 owners replaced the battery they were still haveing the issue of the battery not charging to 100%.
Anyone have the same experiences?

I'm assuming you installed the latest version of Dell Command | Power Manager (System Utilities) from your Dell Product Support page.....
The battery stop charging at 80% because of the battery settings. Some of the battery settings prevent 100% charge to help extend battery life. Please right click the battery icon, select Dell Command | Power manager, and then Change Settings:

I just bought a Dell XPS 13 9350 QHD. I am trying to disable Adaptive brightness with this patch i downloaded from dell website APP_QHDFW_DBC_W81X64_W10X64_A00_Setup-PWD5K_ZPE
However after I unzip and run the exe file there is no reaction.

Can someone please assist.

Is that a driver update you are downloading? That will not change any settings for your GPU.
Follow the steps below to turn off adaptive brightness:
1) Go to your power settings by left-clicking the battery symbol at the bottom right of your desktop
2) click power and sleep settings
3) click additional power settings then click "change plan settings" next to the power profile you are using
4) then, click "change advanced power settings"
5) Scroll down to Display (click the plus icon) --> Enable adaptive brightness --> then turn it off using the pull down menus.

My laptop Dell XPS 9350: BIOS 1.4.18 updated august 20.
From the very next day the dell system detect is showing a BIOS update is required,
But when I download it shows its the latest download is:  older BIOS version 1.0.0  released in 2015.
I did not install and contact dell support right away to verify, end up listening to that I do not have warranty anymore. so they cant support.
My query is whether I should be downgrading my BIOS?
I am not sure this is the right forum to ask, I apologize.

Dell has had several issues with BIOS updates recently.  For several models, recent BIOS updates caused connection stability issues with USB devices connected via the TB16 dock.  Possibly as a result of that, Dell pulled the updates and replaced them with older ones, but that worked rather oddly on the site. For example, the newer XPS 13 9360 recently got a 2.1.0 BIOS and the next release posted was 1.0.7, and for a while both were posted, and now 2.1.0 is back as the only option.  I would hold off on BIOS updates for a while until you see an update that's actually newer than what you have, which will also hopefully contain a fix for these USB issues.

I have had a XPS 13 9350 and love it except one thing. When i plug in headphones to the laptop I get really bad static on the audio that only goes away when I mute, this condition does not happen with the built in speakers. I have tried to update drivers and all of that and every time i update to the new realtek drivers or any realtek drivers for that matter my laptop will freeze when booting into windows 10. It freezes as soon as I try to use the notification center or start menu and I have to restart and then role back the audio driver to the stock high definition windows 10 driver to get things to work. For the short time I get teh realtek driver to work the audio on both the headphones and speakers is fine but the computer locks up and I am forced to role back the driver to the High definition windows 10 driver which causes the headphone static to come back.
I have had this problem from the beginning but have forgot about it since I really don't use headphones with it much but I forsee me using them more. I have even considered buynig a AudioQuest Dragonfly Dac in order to bypass the stock headphone jack to keep this from happening.

Hello. Did the laptop come with Win10 pre-installed at the factory? If so it would have had a working Realtek audio driver in it when you took it out of the box. You can return it to that state by performing a system recovery -- return to the original factory configuration.
If you installed Win10, you might consider returning to the operating system in which the audio worked properly. There are a lot of audio problems with Win10.

Hi everyone, I've bought a new monitor for my laptop dell xps 13. Now when I'm hearing sound from my monitor the sound stops working for 2 seconds and then it just goes normal. this happens often. After a lackluster week with TB15, I have a problem with my Dell 9350 (early 2016).
I noticed that the battery drained faster than it's supposed to be.

I saw on some posts that the design capacity was around 57mWh with 55mWh of full chage capacity.

Latest BIOS is installed:

Current setting is Power Saver with 0% brightness.
Any other settings that can be recommended are welcome.

I recently bought this laptop, but yesterday it refused to boot.
The light on the charger is on, however when plugged into the laptop the light on the laptop does not come on.
I already opened the panel and unplugged the battery cable and plugged it back in but to no avail.
Is it now dead? I am still under warranty, but i need my laptop now.

There's a short circuit somewhere in the system - it will need warranty repair.  If it's less than 21 days from shipment from Dell, you can also return the system for replacement.

I purchased a new dell XPS 13 9350 from BestBuy August 8, 2016 and have several sound problems.  First all sound stopped working about a month after purchasing the laptop but using the support site I discovered that 3 Intel drivers had been disabled. Once I reinstalled the drivers the audio began working again but another issue has continued. A periodic static noise.  
The laptop periodically emits a static noise anytime you press a key. When the noise starts it happens anytime you press a key regardless of what program is running and thus far there is no apparent trigger that causes it to start emitting the static noise. Twice I've run the diagnostic "Full Test" on the support site but the test does not find any problems. Considering the price of this laptop I am surprised and even more shocked to see that other people are also having issues with static sounds. 
I purchased an HP laptop last year for half the price of this laptop and have not had a single issues with that computer.

My Dell XPS 13 was working fine for about 9 months. Recently, I have to go through a lot of trouble just to get it charging. When I plug in the adapter, the light on the end of the plug turns on, but to get the charge to work, I have to push the cord extremely hard into the laptop. Even when I do this, the laptop usually only stays charging for about 5 seconds. After about 20 tries, I got it to stay charging. The warranty is still (thankfully) active, so worst case, I can just get it replaced. But before that, what can I do to try to fix it?
