Preferred Solution: HELP!!! Error Code 0xc0000001 and 0xc000021a!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: HELP!!! Error Code 0xc0000001 and 0xc000021a!!!

What machine type and operating system do you have?
Is there any text with the error.
Try the following:
- Boot to Safe Mode, if that works, then it is a problem with non-essential startup drivers, services, or startup programs.
- If no go, try Last Known Good Configuration, then run a malware and rootkit scans.

My laptop came preintalled with Windows 8. I did the upgrade to 8.1. Then in beginning Aug. 2015 sometime I upgraded to Windows 10. However I did something rather stupid! Yup didn't copy any recovery, nothing. So now that I wanted to go back to Windows 8, my pc came up with and Error!! File: \windows\system32\winload.efi Error Code: 0xc0000001. So I have talked with Toshiba, which they advise me that its my hard drive and I need a recovery disc. Microsoft is telling me to go back onto their web site and download Windows 8 and then try and re-install windows 8 on my pc. I can't not find where to download windows 8. I did order a new laptop from toshiba, because it was going to be really cheaper to get a new one than to fix my 3 year old pc. Any help?

Answer:Error Code: 0xc0000001

This link MAY help-

Upgrade Windows with only a product key - Windows Help

I have never tried it because I have factory recovery disks & also use Macrium Reflect to make system images.

It tells you on the link that you will need your product key.
They don't say whether it is the OEM or Installed key.
This vbs script will show you both. { If both are still available. }

ShowKey v1.3.vbs

Download it & right click it & unblock it & close Properties & open it.

Good luck.

Hi everyone, I have this weird problem going on right now and hope somebody will have a solution to this. (I'll try to make it as clear as possible)

I previously had windows 8 installed on my HDD. Yesterday, I bought a new intel SSD 330 series and installed it in my desktop. I then format the whole HDD (everything wiped clean) and start a fresh windows 8 installation on the new SSD. But after the first step of installation were done and windows prompts to "remove the bootable USB drive and click ok to restart". I followed the instruction and after the restart, it report the error code 0xc0000001.

I Googled up the error code and tried all possible solutions such as using 3 bootrec commands, use the repair tool that came with windows 8 installation, running chkdsk on all drives and such. But none work. My last option was to remove the HDD and DVD drive from the motherboard and windows loaded up just fine. Thought the problem is solved, I turn it off to reconnect the HDD and DVD, after that everything boot up like normal. Until I click the restart button. 0xc0000001 error came back on and I had to remove the SSD, HDD and DVD drive from the system -> reconnect the SSD -> boot up -> turn it off -> reconnect the other 2.

Just like that, the error comes on everytime I hit the restart button. I'm not sure if this is a motherboard problem or an error caused by windows. (Setting priority boot option in BIOS doesn't solve the problem)

Any ideas guys? Any help ... Read more

My brothers Asus G75v doesn't boot. When I try I either get a black screen or error code 0xc0000001. I tried the f9 at the start to go into recovery but it doesn't work. The computer had a ssd upgrade a while back and the recovery partition is now on the ssd (i used migration software at the time and the original hdd is still in the computer but formatted). I am not sure if that is the cause that the f9 doesn't work. I took out the ssd and put it in my desktop. I can see all the files and partition. I have check it for error with the chkdsk command but it didn't help. I copy the recovery partition into a usb to see if I could boot off of that but the computer just didn't see the drive. Does any body know what to fix this?

thanks in advance!

Hello. I am running on Windows 7 64bit home premium. My computer has been really weird lately. I have tried recovering my computer to an earlier time but it constantly failed. Explorer.exe will fail on me, and I have tried the src thing using run but it will open and immediately close on me. I didn't have a recovery disk so I just recently bought one. I "think" I made the recovery disk correctly. When I put the cd in, I got an error that the file winload.exe with the error code 0xc0000001 saying the file may be missing or may be corrupt. I am not very experienced with computers so i hope you guys can help me the best way you can. Thank you so much for reading.

I have posted a thread about this awhile ago but didn't receive help. As of right NOW, explorer.exe keeps failing on me when I log into my account and when press the system restore option, it freezes and starts explorer.exe and a pop up about my administration failing.

Hi Guys,

I had a pretty much faultless Win 10 setup with all the latest patches installed then this morning I connected an external USB hard drive which I had used several times before but this time Windows said it needed to install a new driver. I let the driver install and then Windows stated it needed a restart to complete the installation. When restarting I received the "Inaccessible_Boot_Device error message - Windows will restart for you" message. On restarting again I got: "Your PC couldn't start properly. Error code 0xc0000001." Windows tried to automatically repair itself displaying the Diagnosing message first and then Attempting Repair message, and finally reporting it could not fix the problem. I'm not sure if the new driver being installed created the problem or whether it was just a coincidence and something else has caused the fault.

I was able to boot to Recovery using a USB stick created with Microsoft's MediaCreationTool. Safe boot and all the other startup options didn't do anything apart from resulting in yet another failed boot. Getting to the command line, I was able to view the file that Windows creates when it tries to repair itself: c:\windows\system32\logfiles\srt\srttail.txt. That file shows that all tests were completed successfully until:
"Root cause found
A patch is preventing the system from starting
Repair action system files integrity check and repair
Result failed error code 0x490"

I tried: sfc /scannow

This error code keeps appearing on my acer laptop I have a recovery USB which does nothing and it gives me the options on the recovery screen to A: press enter to try again (which does nothing but return to the same screen) B: press f8 for start up settings or C: press esc for uefi firmware settings (which does nothing) . On the start up settings option it gives 8 options enable debugging, enable boot logging, enable low res video, enable safe mode, enable safe mode with networking, enable safe mode with command prompt, disable driver signature enforcement, disable early launch anti-malware protection, disable automatic restart after failure. All of these options go to the acer start up screen and freeze on there. Unsure what to do can anyone help at all?

Sounds like a bad hard drive if you cannot get to a command prompt to run
chkdsk /f/r/
then enter BIOS set Boot to legacy boot to boot from the USB.

Answer:PC wont boot...error code: 0xc0000001

Contact Asus to see if you can purchase recovery media (I've been told that they stopped providing recovery media).
If not available from them, then purchase it elsewhere.

FWIW - you can create a repair USB drive from any Win8.1 system.
Don't bother copying the recovery partition as it likely won't work on the Asus
You won't be able to reinstall Windows with this (unless you can access the RESET function through the tools), but you will be able to run the different repair functions.

I suspect a problem with the hard drive when I see an error of 0xc0000001 - but that's just a guess on my part.
You can try these free, bootable diagnostics: Initial Hardware Diagnostics

Product name: Inspiron 11 - 3147 running Windows 8.1
After my computer requested that I do a Windows update, I did in, and my computer restarted. It encountered an error and my screen with the Dell Logo. it said
"Error C000003A applying operation (GWXUX.exe)"
after restarting, and getting the same error screen, I brought up the Windows Recovery screen, but said I had another error
"error code 0xc0000001"
and to contact my computer manufacturer ect. Then gave me a 3 options, Enter to continue, f8 to open more options and Ecs. Upon hitting f8, there are options 1-9 and none of them work. Each option results in me returning to the Dell logo screen and the Error message along the bottom.
I did some research and found many others in the boat, but often their problem can be solved simply but tapping f8 at the Dell screen to bring up Advanced Startup Settings but that doesn't work. Nothing happens.
I figured my computer would start if I booted it from my USB but I am not able to get my computer to read from the USB stick or a start disc.
I ran Dell diagnostics and everything is fine.
I apologize if this isn't the right place to post this or if this exact thing was posted in a thread elsewhere but If someone could give me any advice on how to get my computer to boot and work will have my sincere thanks!

Emily

I bought my yoga 2 13 in November 2014. It has worked well till last week. Now it freezes for 10-20 seconds on the simplest click to another window. I got an error xode 0xc00021a. Answer:error code 0xc000021a and freezing for a few seconds on yoga 2 13

Hi rajeshprasad1 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Error 0xc000021a  may be a system file error on base check but may also hide underlying issue  like bad sectors or drive. On other scenarios , this error can cause system not to boot to Windows .

Best that you take time to back up everything that is important or if that would be hard, try to get data recovery tech / center to slave the harddrive for the back up if possible and have then run a harddrive diagnostics at the same time.

Would it work ok on safe mode?
Would you be able to run individual Storage test using this link .

Update us how it goes .

Where do I even start?
A client of mine came to me with their HP desktop and were saying it could not boot and restore points were not even working. I thought I would have this worked out in no time. I was wrong.

Here is the details for everything:
- Error code is 0X000021a and I can only see it when I, attempt to, boot into Safe Mode (Which all Safe Mode options do not work.)
- Normal booting into the OS results in a mainly blue screen with thin lines and streaks cutting through the screen and nothing is distinguishable.
- I tried System Restore and there is nothing there to access, says Windows.
In this next section, I run commands from the Command Prompt in the Windows Troubleshooting section of the boot.
- SFC scans result in this now: "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."
- Chkdsk: Regular Read-Only mode tells me "No further Action is required" and running the extended commands, such as /f /r, takes a huge amount of time and I only did that once. No dice.
- DISM commands seem like such a good idea but I can run only one of them and it does not help me in any way. Say I run "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth" it gives me "Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool. Version 10.0.14393.0.
Error: 50. DISM does not support servicing Windows PE with the /Online option."
And if I try any other DISM commands, more errors, like Error 2.
- System Repair does not work.

Evidently while trying to take advantage of the Windows 10 Upgrade, somehow some damage was done to a file(s) from my old  Windows 8.1 OS pertaining to a missing, or damaged, file....  \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe  ...  which
in turn rewflects an Error code:  0xc0000001...
At any rate, as a result, I am not able to boot up without an installation disc, nor perform the requested "Restart" to continue with the Windows 8.1 reinstallation because of this Error, and missing file(s), and am at my wits end...
Please does anyone have any idea what my best course of action might be at this point, as I have seeminglly tried everything that I could think of for the better part of two weeks now.
Last night a gal that lives a few doors down checked in on me, because she hadn't seen me for those two weeks and was just pretty concerned about whether I was allright or not, and she suggested that I take the laptop to an outside Technician, but
unfortunately, I am a disabled  U.S. Veteran, and I just don't have alot of money to work with.
If someone could please help me with this litlle bit of a predicament, I would surely appreciate it more than you could ever know.
Thank you....  And I Wish you Happy Holidays!

I recently bought a refurbished thinkpad (T420 i5 2540, SSD, 8gb ram, NVidia nvs 4200) with windows 7 professional. It worked fine at first, I could turn it on without a problem. However, as soon as windows updates installed, and I rebooted it, it refused to turn on. The power and Bluetooth lights would come on, then shut off after a few seconds. I unplugged, removed the battery, and pressed the power button a few times then held it, but that didn't help. After several attempts it finally boots, but BSODs as soon as it gets to "windows is starting". If I leave it for a long time (several hours) and try again, it often starts up normally. This whole process has happened many, many times over the last 3 days, with little difference each time. Launching startup repair just BSODs and it goes back to not turning on at all. System restore doesn't work, and I tried formatting the hard drive and going for a fresh install. It booted normally at first, but as soon as windows updates kicked in, it started failing to boot again. I was able to get a single crash dump (which should be attached). The bug check was 0xc000021a, on ntoskrnl.exe, at address ntoskrnl+72a40. I've tested SSD, ram, processor, etc., but they don't have any issues. I've never really had to deal with repeated BSODs before, so I have no idea what's going on.

Answer:BSOD on boot from clean install bug code 0xc000021a

In this case, it would be the best to go for another clean reinstall.

Because, from the description it appears to be a driver issue, a driver is conflicting during startup; and at the time the BSOD occurs, it does not have sufficient information to record the failing module in the dump.

Perform a clean reinstall exactly as suggested here: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 .... hopefully it will solve this issue.

Hi, I could use some help with a recurring BSOD I have, running Windows 8.1.
I'm not sure what info is most helpful, but I have minidumps, etc.
I'm including the events for each of the three occurrences (2/9/15, 1/30/15, 1/20/15), including the bugcheck event and the last set of Administrative Events that appeared to have occurred leading up to the reboot (which never actually reboots but hangs on the new, pale, Windows 8 BSOD).

Hi kghastie It'll be useful if we could have access to your minidump logs so we can analyze them and pinpoint the cause of these BSODs.BSOD MinidumpsFollow the instructions below to get and upload your BSOD minidumps so I can analyze them:Create a new folder on your Desktop called dumps;Go in your C:\windows\minidump folder, copy every files inside then paste them in your dumps folder;Right-click on the dumps folder, select Send to then Compressed (zipped) folder;Attach the compressed folder (archive) to your next reply and post it;

Hi, I am getting a recurring BSOD. I have fairly recently installed a new, external drive and updated some drivers from the Gigabyte and Intel sites. The BSODs happen a few weeks apart, so trying to undo one driver update at a time, etc..., would take months/years to do. I realize I may have to fall back to that. However, I'd like to see if there are obvious signs from the minidumps or from anything else that could point to a specific driver or issue.

I've attached the BSOD zip file with the last 3 dumps, and I await further instructions.

Thanks in advance,

kghastie

Question: error 0xc0000001

Hello, I bought few months ago a Samsung netbook for my girlfriend and of course now is full of spywares and mallwares. I tried to recover the system, but now I get this fatal error when I open the laptop. The recovery was 100% done but after the computer restarted this error appeared. The thing is that I made a full recovery (including delete all data) and now the laptop is not working anymore. I tried everything I found on internet (shift+f8; windows 7 on bootable usb) nothing is working. I really don't know what to do now, the laptop is unusable. I don't have recovery disks and if i try to run recovery process again, I get the same error.

So, to describe the error: I press the power button, small windows blue logo appears, then the following sentence: ( Your pc ran into a problem and need to restart). After the netbook restart by himself I get this screen:

Recovery
Your PC couldn't start properly
After multiple tries, the operating system on your PC failed to start, so it needs to be repaired.
Error code: 0xc0000001
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media etc.

At the end I have this 3 options:
Press enter to try again. (if i press enter the process starts again and the error reappears)
Press F8 for startup settings.(I tried, nothing works, not even enable safe mode)
Press ESC fir YEFI Firmware Settings. (here the bios pops out)

I hope that you guys can help me and thank you in advance.

Question: Error 0xc0000001

Hi!
So I recently got my brand new Alienware X51 with Win8 pre-installed. Everything went well and I have had no issues until our apartment got a black-out and my PC decided to die. When the power was back on, I tried turning it on, but instead got an error message. Here as follows:
Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
The application or operating system couldnot be loaded because a requested file is missing or contais content errors.
File:\windows\system32\windload.efi
Error code: 0xc0000001

Also I need to mention that I did NOT get any Recovery CD/DVD with the pc itself. What should I do??

Answer:Error 0xc0000001

Hi Katerina Raylyan,
It appears to be a problem with the operating system file which might have been corrupted because of power failure. You may follow the steps below and try repair the OS.

Power off the computer
Restart the system. At the system logo screen immediately  press and hold 'SHIFT' and tap the 'F8' key to enter 'Recovery' and select 'See advanced repair option'.
At 'Choose an option' click 'Troubleshoot'
At 'Troubleshoot' click 'Advanced options'
Right at 'Advanced Options' screen left-click 'Windows Startup Settings'

Now, at 'Windows Startup Setting' click 'Restart' and allow your system to finish with the process. It will do the repair without making any changes to your important folders.

If the issue persists, you may try 'Automatic Repair' option in the above step and check if it is able to fix the issue.
Hope this helps. Please reply with the findings.

Hello We've just received a new X1C Gen 4.  Type 20FB-005WUS.  It comes with Win 7, with rights to upgrade to Win 10 via Lenovo USB recovery media (downloading now). On the very first run of the X1, it restarted a couple of times, with some bios messages flashing by that I couldn't catch.  Then it stopped on the Win boot manager (pic attached) with error code 0xc0000001 pointing towards volmgrx.sys.  Susbsequent attempts also stop at this screen.  Bios has default settings. The retailer supposedly offers returns on faulty items within 7 days (but we are some distance away in a rural area), or I could start a Lenovo warranty process. However I'm not convinced this is a hardware fault with the SSD, and suspect there's a chance it could be bios setting related or Win 7 image / setup issue. Conversely, I wouldn't want to install Win 10 from the recovery media on a faulty SSD and have it fault again while in action. As we need to use the X1 as soon as possible, I need to find the path of least resistance. I'd appreciate any opinions from those more experienced than myself. regardsSimon p.s. I also cannot find any way to boot into a Lenovo recovery partition on the drive.  No F11 or similar options anywhere

Answer:Help Error 0xc0000001

Hi eclipsez and welcome to SF!.
There is not much to go on. It appears you ran into an error that occasionally occurred on Windows Vista installations and was resolved with Service pack 1.
Did you update your Vista to the latest Service pack?
The error apparently boils down to a defective Win32k.sys

You could try to use this procedure (which will not affect your data):
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

In any case you should back up your important data on a regular base, independent from problems you might have with a computer
I recommend this free program:

My computer was working fine right up until last night, i normaly turned my computer off via the power button, but when i came back in the room it was still on but the screen wasn't, so i force powered it off and left to my friends, when i came back later that night i was greeted with: A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.
Error code:0xc000000f
When i press enter i get an extra message after a black flash
File:\Windows\system32\winload.exe
Error code: 0xc000000f
This is all on the blue recovery screen that says the aplication or OS couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.
Pressing enter to try again results in a black flash and so does f8 for startup settings.
I've tryed to use the install disk cmd with some commands but nothing works, any help would be apreciated, oh and with some of my testing i got a locked disk msg, don't know where to go from here, it wont even let me format the disk and reinstall windows.
Any help would be apreciated.
Thanks!

Hello everyone,

After my HP pavilion g6 crashed the other day, I bought a new and upgraded hard disk, Samsung 830 SSD.

Had not burned the HP recovery discs, so I downloaded and ISO with Windows 7 to be able to boot the computer.

The HP won't boot:

Windows failed to start.
File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

The ISO dvd is fine, I checked it on another computer.

I ave been searching a dozen of fora but so far with no luck.

Could somebody point me in the right direction? Any help is welcome and much appreciated.

Greetings from DK,

I've recently made some upgrades to my PC (its getting closer to the doomsday machine I've wanted it to be) and I've made sure they're all compatible, but I'm having trouble installing Windows 7 X64 on my new HDD. EDIT: The filename actually always seems to be "\windows\system32\boot\winload.exe". I have a similar problem booting from my Win XP disc, it says I have a corrupt file. I've also used this disc in the past and have had success.

When did this problem begin? Did you add, remove or upgrade any hardware or software prior to this?

Hello really need your help as i have hit a brick wall.

My new build with windows 8.1 installs fine but keeps crashing not even long enough to create account.

The specs for my pc are:

AMD A8-6600k 3.90GHz
TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8gb (2 x 4gb)
Gigabyte F2A88XM-HD3 AMD 88X
Kingston 120gb SSD
Superflower 300w Power Supply

When i first installed windows it worked for an hour or two then crashed, but now keeps crashing after minutes, and get the error code 0xc0000001 on startup.

Heres what i have tried so far:

Reinstalled windows 8.1 on same ssd and also tried it installed on a different HDD
Made sure cpu was correctly seated and checked everything is correctly connected.
Swapped RAM for another set which i know works from another computer
Flashed Bios to latest version
Run a cpu stress tests using UBCD which gave no errors
even tried installing windows 7 which still does the same

The pc never crashes in bios or when using UBCD.

Theres nothing more i can think of to try so would really appreciate any suggestions?

Ryan

I presume you have installed the correct drivers from the device manufacturers. Have you tested for a defective component in the system? Mismatched RAM sticks can cause problems also.

You could also do a stress test, see this site:

I apologise for the typo in the title, BSOD not bdos :/

I currently run windows 8.1. The computer is an Asus S400C. On startup it says preparing automatic repair then after a few seconds takes me to the BSOD where It says:
Recovery
Your pc couldn't start properly
after multiple tries, the operating system on your PC failed to start, so it needs to be repaired.

Error code: 0xc0000001

It then says to use the OS disk etc. Although, we dont have the OS disk since it came pre-installed onto the laptop. After 20 seconds or so, it Automatically turns off.

I haven't tried many options in the f8 section, although i have tried to reboot it into safemode and it returns to the same screen.

Since it turns off after a short amount of time, I am avoiding turning it back on too many times to get the full text.

If anyone needs more data, please guide me through the steps. I don't know a lot about computers but i still know quite a bit.

It happened after word got an error message and refused to start up. She then uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it. When she tried to log back on she typed in the password wrong (or something like that, she doesn't know what happened) and it then went to the BSOD

Thanks in advance for any help
P.S I can send someone a picture of the error screen. I have tried shift-f8 on startup, but it has given me nothing.

Answer:BDOS on startup - ERROR 0xc0000001

You will need to acquire recovery media for this computer in order to attempt to repair it.

You can try these bootable diagnostics: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
If the system doesn't have a CD/DVD drive, you'll either have to get a USB one, or figure out how to run these diagnostics from a USB thumb drive.

So my computer (HP pavilion HPE) BSOD'ed for the first time yesterday afternoon (running Windows 8.1, upgraded via download from original Windows 7, so I don't have a recovery disc). Along with the error code, the BSOD says that File: \WINDOWS\system32\winload.exe is missing or contains errors.

I have tried pressing F8, Shift+F8, and holding Shift on start up, and nothing works. I know I'm supposed to upload dump files with this post, but I can't/don't know how to get my computer to the point where I can access these files. I can access the HP Startup Menu by pressing Esc on start up, which has an option to display System Information (not sure if below info is helpful or not...):

Answer:Windows 8.1 BSOD error 0xc0000001

In order to access the Windows Dump files, you can do the following :-

1. Download Ubuntu ISO file from the official sources and install it on a PenDrive/FlashDrive.
2. Boot the laptop using the Pendrive. Incase it is not booting via the Pendrive, make sure that on opening the Boot Manager, the priority for the Flash Drive is set at topmost.
3. Once, you are given the option to either Try or Install Ubuntu, click on Try.
4. Open the Explorer in Linux and browse in the default installation directory of your laptop.
5. Goto C:/Windows/MiniDump/
6. In the trial mode of linux, you can do almost everything so connect to Internet and upload the dump files here after zipping them up.

Let me know incase any further help is needed

Hello,

Normally I wouldn't ask this however it is a bit of a weird error because of how it came about. Right I had Windows 8 installed but my hard drive on my laptop failed and so I had to steal the harddrive from my other laptop with a broken screen and it already had Windows 7 running on it but I thought I'd install Ubuntu while I make a Windows 7 USB and boot into it to re-install.

So now I have Ubuntu and I hate it personally and I'm trying to boot into Windows 7 to install it via the USB and I have followed many tutorials on how to make a bootable USB. Anyway when it boots up it comes to a 'Windows Boot Manager' screen and says:

File: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt

Is it because I'm booting from a USB? The reason I'm doing that is because I didn't receive a recovery disk.

Try creating the flash drive again, only this time using Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3.

You have to create an .iso from your Win 7 install DVD. If you do not have a Windows 7 installation DVD, you can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here: Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River.
Make sure you get the same version you have, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate and 32 or 64 bit. Note that Basic or Starter is not available.

In the first drop down box, scroll all the way to the bottom and select Windows 7.
In the 2nd box, point to your .iso file.
In the 3rd select your flash drive.
Click Create and off you go. In a little while you'll have a good, bootable Windows 7 install flash drive.

I said to myself, no problem. I had cloned my SSD with the OS earlier when it was working fine just for these situations. I put the clone in, access the boot option, and boot from the clone and FUDGE! still doesn't boot.

I put in my 8.1 OS disk, (since I upgraded there is no win 10 disk) get to advanced options, rolled back to a sys restore date when it was working fine. No go - still can't boot. What good is it to have this stupid feature if it doesn't work ?!!!!

So I go to advanced options again, and try the command line. Ran bootrec with various options to rebuild the boot record and MBR, etc. They all say completed successfully, still no go - can't boot.

I've run that dism command, but it just aborts with errors.

previously, I'd run separate disk utilities to check my SSD that has the OS on it, and it showed no errors.

I'd also periodically ran anti-virus (avira) and MB anti-malware. They either never found anything, or they just found mildly annoying things, but no serious problems.

At this point, I'm thinking some kind of hardware failure - if a restore point doesn... Read more

Answer:win 10 endless boot error 0xc0000001

Have you tried resetting the bios to "optimum defaults"? At the bottom of the options you see i.e. Safe Mode etc.....do you see "Repair My Computer"? If yes go in and try "Startup Repair". The other thing I would do is boot to Safe Mode with Networking and then "Run", cmd, from "c" prompt "chkdsk /r" and run checkdisk on the hard drive by agreeing "Y" to mount drive or "Y" to approve run on restart.

Hi there,
I have an Asus K450 laptop with W8.1 installed (came with 8, but I've upgraded). Didn't bring a recovery cd, only a recovery partition in the original hdd.
I had 3 or 4 crashes with the 0xc0000001 error, but solved every single one of them by using the recovery tools (usually with a previous restore point.
2 months ago, I upgraded to an Samsung sdd drive and used a migration (yes, I know a clean install is better, but it was easier). After this migration, the BSOD doesn't recognize the recovery partition, as posted in several user foruns. I've saved my hdd in a case to use as a external drive.
Yesterday, I had my first crash with the sdd installed.
That proved to be a challenge, for the BSOD didn't reconize the recovery partition in the external drive (which was the original disk).
I've solved the problem by reinstalling the hdd, running a restore point and it worked.
So far so good.
I thought that it did solve the problem on the hdd. However, as we must always learn I switched back to the sdd, sure that it wouldn't work, for I had solved the problem in another disk.
It just booted fine.
I have everything working now, but it puzzled me. Why have I solved a problem in a disk and it solved the problem on another disk too?
I don't belive in witchcraft and I don't think osmosis has anything to do with it, but would like some thought about it.
Kind regards,
- Ricardo

P.S., I would post the BSOD log, but couldn't managed to save it to the desktop.

Answer:BSOD error 0xc0000001 - strange behaviour

Hi Rcorreia & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

To most of the users, BSODs are like witchcraft

Do you remember what specific error (Even one) did you encounter in the BSODs? If you remember even a single of the Error which is posted on the Blue Screen, I could point towards something but like you described your case, it may be a problem of loose connections.

If you still have the Dump File in the "C:\Windows\Minidumps\" folder, I would be more than happy to help you identify the issue ^_^

Greetings all,

Apologies if this is not the right spot for this post, since I encounter the issue on startup, not technically a Blue SOD, but still a serious error.

Some background:

Dell Inspiron 2200 (yes I know old, but she still runs!), with a 320 GB PATA running Windows 7 Enterprise. About 2 weeks ago (week of 1/3/16) Windows needed to update, so did AVG Free edition. Ever since that update I've been running into this problem .

The startup screen basically says that Windows failed to start, because ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt. The status is 0xc0000001 (one time I saw it 0xc0000098 I believe).

The good:

I do have a Windows 7 Install DVD (genuine). I also used Paragon Free Backup Free Utility just in case.

The bad:

I have tried:

Startup repair
Restore Point (tried it once, didn't work, now surprisingly there isn't any)
chkdsk (fine)
copying ntoskrnl.exe from the install DVD to the HDD
all the bootrec.exe commands (/rebuildbcd says there are 0 identified windows installations, but I can see all of my files, and even when repair your computer comes up before the cmd prompt, it identifies my windows installation)
sfc /scannow

The ugly:

Well, I've checked the boards here and around the net, but nothing works. I was going to see if any of the experts here can provide some assistance/advice. I'd rather try and fix this vice reinstall.

Thanks!

i boot up my laptop and BSOD comes up titled recovery, your pc couldn't start properly. after multiple tries, the operating system on your pc failed to start, so it needs to be repaired.
error code: 0xc0000001
you'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. if you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or pc manufacturer.

i have done some research into this problem and i found a lot of suggestions using the SHIFT + F8 at the bootup when the windows logo appears on screen, but that has not worked for me at all. i have tried doing that several times, but i had no success with it.

i have my original windows 8 pro upgrade installation disc with me, and i have tried the auto repair and refresh, but they do not work. also, i am running the windows 8.1 preview as well.

Background:

? Upgraded to Windows 8.1 preview from Windows 8, works fine for weeks.

? Randomly crashed one day. I believe it may have been waking from sleep mode when this happened. It cited:

"Recovery

Your PC needs to be repaired

The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.

File: c:\system32\winload.exe
Error code: 0xc0000001"

? I've tried many recovery paths. BCDedit, bcdboot, fixboot, Windows 8 & 8.1 recovery media. For all of these I think I am either doing them wrongly or I get an error message that says it can't access/edit the bit where Windows 8.1 preview is.

? On a different drive I have a copy of Windows 8 that I used to clone to the other harddrive (now containing crashed 8.1 preview) over a year ago. They are unrelated I believe.

? There's a suspicious lack of Windows related folders on the D:\ drive containing the crashed Windows 8.1. D:\windows doesn't exist and D:\WINDOWS only contains one folder: "logs". The other folders such as "program files" are all locked.
This issue has baffled me. Does anyone have any ideas?

Or, if you think it would help, logs or tests that I can provide to help clarify my issue?

Many thanks.

Hello everybody,
Randomly today my computer decided it did not want to boot. It originally had a different error code, but I found a tutorial on how to fix it, I followed the tutorial and my problem stayed the same but my error code changed. Basically something is wrong with my boot sector.
The initial code was 0xc0000225 and I used this tutorial to solve it: Solution to your PC needs to be repaired Error code: 0xc0000225
After that I got the new error: 0xc0000001. I have tried rebuilding the BCD, I have tried fixing the master boot record. I even started to go as far as to do a system "refresh" but windows told me that the HDD was locked and I have to unlock it to do a refresh, which Id much rather not do. When I tried to rebuild the BCD it detected my OS but when I told it to add it to the boot list it says "The requested system device cannot be found". The weirdest thing is everywhere I look I am told to use the windows startup settings but they are totally missing from the menu. I booted to my bootable Windows 8 64 bit flash drive, selected repair my computer, then selected troubleshoot and advanced options and the only things that are available are system restore, system image recovery, automatic repair and command prompt. right under command prompt is where startup settings should be. anybody have any ideas!? im really frustrated with this. I cant reformat because I have a lot of stuff that would take forever to get back like music etc.

Answer:BSOD While windows is loading, error 0xc0000001

I got this error yesterday on a Samsung laptop (it came with Win8, but was downgraded to Win7)
This was after I had updated the BIOS(UEFI).

It turns out that the update had turned the UEFI/Secure Boot back on.T

Turning it off and enabling Legacy/CSM in the UEFI allowed me to boot to Win7 without issue. Try that with yours (or, if it's off, try turning it on).

Let us know if this helps. If not there's several other things to try.
I'm late for work right now, but will check back within 24 hours to see what happened.

So it all started last night when i accidentally tripped on my power cord, unplugging it from tthe tower during the login screen. At first, I thought nothing of it, and I just restarted the computer. But unfortunately I was met with the BSOD with that error code. All of the online solutions I have encountered that don't involve removing all my files or using a windows 8 installation disk I have tried.
So then after the BSOD I restart and get to a screen saying automatic repair failed. I try to refresh the PC- no luck. I'm definitely not resetting my PC and losing all my files so I go into advanced options. Foolishly I have no backup USB or anything so I try a system restore. Nothing happens, same old BSOD. Then I try the various command console solutions i found in the advanced settings command prompt. All of them don't work and give me a reply saying that the image was not found or "drwtsn32.exe" was not found in the image specified or whatever. It is always prefaced with "x:\windows\system32", not C:\. I cannot start in safe mode and disabling driver signature enforcement also didn't work. Any help before i just buy a windows 8 installation disk would be greatly appreciated.

By "dead" I mean it is not doing anything.
Hi. I started my Samsung laptop today to find the entitled error. No "help" I have come across has worked, especially on microbrain's website. It says it is collecting some "error info" and has not moved from 0% since it started nearly 25 minutes ago. As soon as I saw it I knew it was a fake non-error, not doing anything, and certainly not fixing anything.
Pressing F8 is ignored by this wonderful piece of nothing, and I can't make the drive work via a USB dock using another windose OS on another drive, either.
How can I fix it?
Thanks.

Answer:'0xc000021a' dead error

I'm on mobile so I can't see the edit button.
I don't have this installation disc and I can't make a boot USB disk, either, because I can't get into it st all. It keeps on either going to the Samsung splash screen with the rotating icon then not doing anything, yo the error/error info-"collecting" screen immediately where it reboots immediately and alleges to try again, or it mentions it is "preparing automatic repair", which I don't know why it's called that because it does NOTHING automatically/by default, and does NOT repair ANYTHING.

I kept my computer on over night and I accidentally hit the print screen button. I have a special program called 'Greenshot' so it overlays the screen with a grid region selector and lets you drag and save. I didn't drag and save so I left it like that over night.

As soon as I woke the computer up it froze the entire screen nothing could be down. Also a message pop up about failed nvidia drivers. I decided to just force reset my computer since their was nothing I could do.

Boot it up and got all the way to the logo and loading screen. A few seconds after I BSOD with the error 0xc000021a.

Nothing work in the repair menu but the command prompt which is label X Drive instead of C drive by default.

However, I seem to have created a problem for myself... I'm now stuck in a bootloop in which the PC refuses to fix itself. I start it... I get error 0xc000021a in a bsod and it reboots to try and repair, in which that fails. I have tried a 2 separate system restores, both 28th and 23rd of January, to no avail.

Sorry that I cannot create any dump of any kind, as I can't even access any part of my PC.

I've tried other methods such as the DISM command, only to get some error stating that I'm supposed to use an /online command. Eh?
I've tried booting into safe mode, only to get the exact same error.
I cannot refresh or reboot as I do not have access to a disk or flash drive at this point (my kid sister snapped my disc in a fit of rage, irrelevant but worth noting.)

I can't even chkdsk because it says something about the HDD being locked?

Ok, I clicked 'update and restart' while turning off my Surface RT, and instead of booting my OS, Windows collecte 'some error information' and restarted to a BitLocker error screen asking me for my recovery key. So, I went on the microsoft website with my phone and found the recovery key, typed it in and tapped 'Continue', but it eventually says 'Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC'. I tap 'Advanced options' and then 'Continue:Exit and continue to Windows RT'', but I just end up at the original BitLocker error screen. If I go to 'Troubleshoot' and try 'Refresh your PC', it says 'the drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again. I tap 'Cancel' (the only option) and try 'Advanced options' then 'Automatic Repair', I get the same error screen as before, so I tap 'Startup Settings' and then 'Restart'. Eventually, I get a BitLocker screen that says ''you must enter your recovery key to access Startup Settings: to protect the privacy of your data, BitLocker has prevented the unlocking of your drive. You'll need to enter the recovery key.' Then there's nothing but some text at the bottom telling me to 'press enter or the windows key'. Hi,
I have been struggling with error 0xc000021a for a while now and can not find a way to fix the issue. I tried using sfc /scannow, but all I get is a message saying:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix someof them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Forexample C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently notsupported in offline servicing scenarios.

the sfcdetails is attached.

I also tried using dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth , but get Error: 3017 when at around 75% during the process.

dism log file is attached as well

I tried resetting my laptop, but get Error: There was a problem resetting your pc

The only way I have found to get past error 0xc000021a is to disable driver signature enforcement, but this is only a temporary solution. Every time I restart or reboot my pc it will give me the error which is really annoying. I have went through the repair my computer scans many times and every time it will say that it couldn't repair the pc. The hardware scans never find any issues as well.

Hello,
I have installed Windows 8 Pro on my PC and on my Laptop. The problem is since yesterday the laptop ist showing the error 0XC000021A. It only writes that my PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. After a restart it just writes the system must be recovered and if I click on "Recover" it only shows the Win8 logo and nothing happens. I tried it several times and always get the same error.
The biggest Problem is I cant access the BIOS and change the boot device, so its not so easy to reinstall Windows. I always have to open the device and to format the hard disk on an other PC.
Is there any way to solve this problem without reinstalling Windows? I cant access the PC so all the other ways written in the internet don't work in my case.
Here you can see a photo of the error: http://tinyurl.com/cx5n48f
Please help me!

Answer:Bluescreen error 0xC000021A

Why can't you access the BIOS? I suspect a hardware problem because of this statement.
If you can get into Windows, Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis: https://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...tructions.html

Hi,
I have been struggling with error 0xc000021a for a while now and can not find a way to fix the issue.

My computer has a fatal system error c000021a. It is a vista HP Pavilion and the warranty has expired all but a year ago. The system is a dull bus but is only two years old. I have been having this problem with the blue screen for about nine months now. The computer will just turn it's self off when ever now but before it was when we had downloaded a lot of updates. Now I have noticed that when I run a full computer scan it will not let the virus scan finish and than the computer shuts down, turns it's self off. I turn it on and get the microsoft screen than a black screen telling me that I can chose to fix the computer or run windows normal. I chose to fix it and a blue screen saying this appears:{Fatal System Error} c000021aThe initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000001 0x0010034c) The system has been shut down. After turning off the computer and turning it back on a couple of times I see another blue screen that says dumping physical memory! I then turn it off wait a while turn back on and the computer seems to fix it's self.

Hi
I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and it was working fine for a few days but now whenever I try to boot it up I get BSOD with error code 0xc000021a.
I've tried the following 'fixes':
System restore --- Runs for a few minutes and then says "Could not restore your computer. No changes were made"
Clicking on any of the advanced startup options --- BSOD
Reinstalling windows 10 with a usb --- Results in it going into circles with this messagea "The computer started using the Windows installation media. Remove the installation medial and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation media and restart the upgrade. [Do not select iCustom [advanced]I to perform an upgrade. iCustom [advanced]I installs a new copy of Windows and deletes your programs and settings.)"
I've taken the usb out and restarted the computer several times, even called Microsoft Technical Support. They had no idea what to do.
I used to be able to access the command prompt and I tried everything suggested in this article here 0xC000021A Fix for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1. The reason I say "used to" is because things recently got alot worse when I changed the boot order and now it just turns black after the bios screen. I've tried to restore the BIOS setup to default settings and I also tried everything suggested in this article 3 Ways to Reset Your BIOS - wikiHow but nothing works.

I went to use my computer this afternoon and it locked up and now I get "error 0X000021A" I have been unable to get it to boot into safe mode or anything else. It has an SSD and I have the original HD which I installed and the computer will boot to that. However it has windows 8 as the operating system. I had done the upgrades to 8.1 and 10 but they are not on the HD? Is there any way to get the windows 10 loaded again? If not, I will continue to get by with Windows 8. I can't get the log information because it won't boot up.

Answer:Computer won't boot, get error 0xc000021a

See if you can boot this Win10PE, if you can use HDTune and do the following please.

Diagnostics Test

 HDD TEST

   Note
Run the tests on all hard drives/partitions!

   Note
Please run HDTune first, in the order posted!
Run HDTune to
check the health, scan for errors, no quick scan but full scanrun a benchmark.
It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
When above is done please make screenshots of the following
the health, the error scan, the benchmark incl. following
transfer rate,access time,burst rate,cpu usage.

Using Windows 8.1 digital purchase, no CD.

This classic error just started happening yesterday. Had no problem with the pc in the morning, came home late and when I tried to turn it on it didnt got pass the error screen. All I remeber doing in the morning is an adobe flash update which I did not install, just dowloaded to install later. Then nothing else, I was using firefox and did nothing else.

Tried almost everything to solve it.
Every cmd command that is around.
Sfc scannow
Bcdedit into safe mode, with and without cmd, and bootmenu policy.

Pc just wont start in safe mode either.

Tried to restore to previous version, an error comes up saying it was not possible. Tried all three of the available dates.

Tried pressing F8 and starting safe mode from there and still no result.

None of the "repair" options work of course.

I can acsess the BIOS, on the gygabyte screen. Not sure what to chabge in there. Anyways, tried with "fast boot" and same error occurs.

The copy is a digital purchase, so no CD.

Any ideas? Appreciate it

Answer:Error 0xc000021A PC wont boot

Do you have any dump files under C:\Windows\Minidump ? If so, please copy them from that directory and upload them here. You should be able to copy them via command line if that's all you can access (if you're not sure how to do this, let me know and I can help) - either that, or you can burn a Linux LiveCD (such as Ubuntu or Mint), boot off of it, and use a GUI environment to copy them to an external storage device.

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...=vs.85%29.aspx
Try Last Known Good Config boot option.

When you ran SFC, did it find anything? Usually it will only repair stuff if you have a disc in the drive for it to reference.

Have you tried running a disk check? At the command prompt:
chkdsk c: /f /r
