Wrong Program Installation Dates!

Question: Wrong Program Installation Dates!

I upgraded to Windows 10 a week ago. I noticed in Control Panel / Programs & Features that about 30 programs have an "Installed On" date of yesterday when they were actually installed ages ago and another 20 or so programs have an "Installed On" date of 10 June when I upgraded to Windows 10. The rest on the dates appear to be correct. this also happens on my laptop I did a clean install on a few months ago so it looks like a bug in Windows. It's actually quite irritating since I like to sort my programs by date just to see if anything has been installed recently without my knowledge.

What's going on and why isn't Windows showing the actual installation dates?

Preferred Solution: Wrong Program Installation Dates!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Wrong Program Installation Dates!

You will probably find that yesterday you had a significant W10 update which has reset the dates on a number of your programs.

Look in Reliability History to see what has been going on. (Type reliability in the search box to access this.)

I purchased a lenovo edge 14 back in march of this year, however the warranty status shows less than 130 days remaining in warranty. there appears to be no way to correct this on the lenovo website, how do I go about correcting this? thank you.

Answer:wrong warranty dates

you need to call up the lenovo customer service, which would require to send in a copy of the (i.e. email or fax) invoice.

EML files are saved in My Doc and URL files in My Favorite in my Vista Home Basic laptop. However, when I try to sync them by SyncBack with USB, it prompts me to overwrite them nearly every time because the modified date/time (for EMLs & URLs) and even size (for URLs) are updated! Actually they are the same files but Vista (or something in Vista) changes them from time to time!!! When I open a folder with Windows Explorer, sometimes I can see the modified date/time of all EMLs inside update automatically. Sometimes one of them updates after I right-click it and view its property.

I usually backup important URLs and EMLs in My Doc. Correct date/size is very important for me and the sync software to distinguish new and old files.

I never have this problem before when using Win XP, IE6 & Outlook Express with my old labtop. But when I upgrade IE6 to IE7 or 8, the same URL problem comes to Win XP. The date and size of some old URLs are changed without my notice!

DIAGNOSIS: Windows Vista changes every .eml & .url file to current time and date. Is Microsoft intentionally update the date (size) in Vista? Why?

NO SOLUTION up till now: I tried some suggestions found over the internet but none works:-
A. I changed the file type association so that Windows Mail/ Windows Live Mail/ Outlook is no longer the default for .EML files. If I need to open them, I right-click, select "Edit" -- and open in Word. But it does not work! All .EMLs STILL changes to current t... Read more

In Add/Remove programs my dates and times are wrong, some programs I may have used recently say last used 2003. In my program files some of the installation dates are wrong also. The date and time in the right corner of the tray are right. This is not earth shattering, but this is my first post and I have lots of questions coming later. Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Dates and time are wrong

Welcome to TSG

I really don't know how windows keeps track of dates in Add/Remove, but I've never found them to be accurate. For programs that I use daily the last used date is usually in 2005. Windows also says that I use these daily programs "occasionally", which means I run it "sometimes". I would just ignore the information provided.

Edit: Don't know if this is true, but it's one explanation http://blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/archive/2004/07/09/178342.aspx

I bought my X60s in Denmark on the 13th of march 2007 with a 3 years warranty. When I look up my warranty status it says that the machine has a three years warranty, but it also says that the warranty expiration date is 10th of may 2009. This is wrong because the warranty should run until 13th of march 2010. How can the date be corrected?

Answer:X60s wrong warranty dates

Welcome to the forum! You should contact Lenovo sales (hopefully you still have your invoice) and get this resolved, it shouldn't be much of a problem IMHO. Hope this helps.

I had a lot of issues with W10 Mobile on my Lumia 1520. I did the hard reset as recommended. Everything is working a lot better, aside from having to reinstall all my apps. One major issue I am having is that all my photos are showing up in the wrong month and year. Example: Today I have taken no photos but under the August 24th date I have over 25 photos. All these photos are ones I took last year but are now marked for today. I think what is happening is Onedrive is adding these photos to my phone which changes the Date Modified date. This problem created a huge mess of my albums. All the photos I took since the reset are correct. All my other phones ive taken over 3 years are now scattered across 2015, some 2014, and some 2013. Has anyone else come across this issue and found a solution?

Yesterday while backing up the Windows Registry I discovered that the backup files in C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP mostly have wildly incorrect dates.

The files and dates are:

rb000.cab Modified 5/10/30
rb002.cab Modified 3/9/05 (that was today's)
rb003.cab Modified 3/16/23
rb004.cab Modified 3/17/23
rb005.cab Modified 10/1/29

Also rbbad.cab, modified 3/8/05 (when I tried to restore the registry with a file I trusted).

I am sure that these files were made when we did time-forwarding for the Petz 3 game. Never mind that.

As I understand it, there are only five slots for registry backups, and these files with false dates are taking up four of the five.

Can I just delete them? Or will it cause confusion in the computer?

Here is what we have.

Our operating system is Windows 98. System memory is 128 MB. The computer name is UOW IV7. The motherboard is Asus CUV4X (I ISA, 5 PCI, 1 AGP Pro, 1 AMR, 3 DIMM, Audio) (I'm copying from the Everest Home screen. The hard disk, with 29291 MB, is a GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE 47. The CPU is an Intel Pentium IIIE, 800 MHz (6 x 133).

I don't know how many more specs you would need to answer my question. If I need to give more information I will. Thanks so much for any help.

Is this another consequence of the recent flawed Win 10 update(s)?

In my list of 214 installed programs (Settings > Apps > Apps & Features) about 150 are shown with install dates of 21/1/2018. That's the date I installed version 1709, including buggy KB4056892 which I've since uninstalled.

Same wrong data using Revo Uninstaller.

Anyone know a way to restore that valuable data please?

Hello,
Is there a way to force Windows Explorer (Windows 7 Premium) to display the proper dates in the "date modified" category? It's displaying the same date as in "date created". I've edited some of the files in that folder a few days ago but it still displays a 2008 date.
Thanks in advance,
Sylvia

Answer:Wrong dates on folders / Windows Explorer

"date modified" & "date created" fall under the same date because you have not modified the folder yet, until you do the dates wont change.

I use the search box in the top LH corner of an Explorer window to search for files modified on a certain date.

For example, I searched for files modified in My Documents on the current day's date .....29th October at the time. There is a file I KNOW has been modified because I have been working on it all day. The search returns 3 files, but not the one in question. I then search for files modified the day before, 28th October, and it turns up on the list, at the right it gives the date as 28th October. I right click on the file, choose file properties, and it shows date modified 29th October, last modified 5 minutes ago.

Today, 30th October, I check again, and again it doesn't appear on the list of files modified 29th October (I haven't worked on it yet today). It still shows up if I search for files on 28th October, and again the file properties box shows date modified 29th October.

Yet some other days it shows up on the current day's search correctly.

Both the file type (Word Doc) and location are included in the index for searching, and the index is shown as being complete when I do the search.

What is causing this hit and miss behaviour?

Cleaning up the friend of a friend's completely virus infested, badly working computer.

Windows 7x64 HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC

The Basics:

While I was beginning to install and manually offline-update various anti-malware tools so that I could begin to determine what I needed to do to get this thing clean and properly operable, I noticed while looking at Programs and Features that many of the install dates for various software were dated in various months in 2013. My installations were 1 year, 2 days ahead of the current date. Windows Explorer shows this to be consistent throughout the files and folders installed.

Looking at the install dates for some of the HP proprietary software/bloatware, I can tell this behavior started some point after the computer was purchased and used (the bloatware installation date was one day after the warranty start date listed in the BIOS). I am presuming dates on files and folders created, modified, or accessed from the point of the initial occurrence of what caused these particular incorrect future timestamps are the only ones affected.

The clock and date were wrong by the exact amount forward as were the install dates for the files I installed, so, as expected, the files were taking their timestamp from the computer's time. I assume whenever the computer date and time were maladjusted is when the problem started.

I fixed the time and date, but the files and folders did not adjust their timestamps, again as expec... Read more

Answer:How to fix wrong Created, Modified, Accessed dates on files/folders?

I know I am not supposed to bump this thread, and I will not do so again if it falls off the first few pages again without a reply, but I only have this notebook for about 24 more hours, so, in hopes that someone who hasn't yet looked at it might see it and have some insight, I am moving it back up. And I am assuming doing this is better than simply opening a new thread rewording the same exact issue.

If no one replies, I won't move it up again. Any help would be appreciated.

If the moderators have absolutely no flexibility for this, then please lock the thread, with my apologies.

Hello,
I have been using Directory List & Print (and Karen's Directory Print) for several years, to print lists of files in various directories (especially media). In order to keep track of all my media files, which are scattered amond numerous drives and many different folders, I create shortcuts for each file, then paste them into a single "master list" folder. This way, I have one place I can quickly turn to for up to date info. Directory List & Print (free version) works quite well for sending the current list of files (actually - list of shortcuts) in the "master folder" to MS Word, for printing and formatting. I just recently tried to sort my file list by date, in order to resolve a problem I was having with keeping track of when certain files were created. When I tried to sort the Directory List & Print order by "date", all files in the master folder were shown as the same date (the current date = 10-20-15), even though each file in the directory shows the actual date the file was originally created. I cannot figure out why this app (Dir ListPrint) assigns the current date to each file, instead of the correct date. I have tried several other third party directory print progams and the result is the same with each. I have also tried the DOS command to create a txt list within the master folder - same result. I want the printed list to show the filename and the correct date. What am I doing wrong? Any help will be greatly apprec... Read more

Answer:Printing directory contents - File dates displayed wrong

Hmmm............

The Everything search engine will find all files matching your stated search string and then allow you to sort them by creation date.

Below is a screen shot of a bunch of Frank Sinatra mp3s from various folders as searched for in Everything. I then sorted them by "creation time", newest to oldest.

You can also export the search results as a text file.

Or highlight some or all of the results and paste them to some folder--which would copy the actual files, not just their names.

It's a great tool that you might be able to adapt to your purposes.

I noticed the installation dates of about 12 programs and drivers have been changed to 24/12/15 in Control Panel / Programs & Features (see screen shot). Hi I need some help.

I have a log that lists the start date and end date of my fleet of cars. I want to be able to tell how many cars we had in our fleet on any day (and then be able to average out the number of vehicles in a month)

What I have is two columns with the first containing the start date of the car and the second containing the termination date of the car.

Example

Code:

21/04/2006 20/04/2010
21/04/2006 20/04/2010
27/04/2006 26/04/2010
28/04/2006 27/04/2010
1/05/2006 28/04/2010
3/05/2006 29/04/2010
3/05/2006 30/04/2010
12/05/2006 11/05/2010
17/05/2006 1/05/2010

On another sheet I have dates starting 1/1/2003 incrementing by a day up to 2013. What I am looking for is a way to count how many times each of the dates falls between (or on) the date in each of the ranges.
EG in the example data above 5/5/2006 = 7, 6/5/2006 = 7, ..., 12/5/2006 = 8. (I hope! )

Note - I am using dates in the format DD/MM/YYYY

Hope you can help!

Once again I'm reaching out to the TSG forums for help. I have a column (bid request date) and another column (bid approved date). In my pivot table I have a count of these by my team members. # of Bids Submitted and # of Bids Approved and I want to add another column into the pivot table, "Approval rate" which divides the # of Approved by # of submitted. Is there an easy way to do this in a pivot table?

I have no idea if this is even possible, but I would like to create a spreadsheet that auto-populates a series of dates based on one date that the user enters. Let's say I have a goal date to complete a project, and for every project I work on, something needs to happen 6 weeks prior to the goal date, another thing needs to happen 4 weeks prior to the goal date, and something else needs to happen 1 week and 5 days before the goal date. I would like to set up 4 cells in Excel: one for the goal date, and three for the various things that need to happen leading up to that goal date. I would like to be able to enter the goal date into the main cell and have the other three cells auto-populate with the correct date based on what I enter in the goal date. For example, if I enter a goal date of 11/01/2016, I would like the other three cells to automatically populate themselves with: 09/20/2016 (6 weeks prior), 10/04/2016 (4 weeks prior), and 10/20/2016 (1 week and 5 days prior). Is this possible? Can Excel return dates in that way?

Answer:How can I auto-populate dates in Excel based on other dates?

Sure, it's easy. Excel internally stores Dates and Times as numbers. Each day is a whole number and time is the decimal portion of that day. See here for a pretty good explanation of how Excel deals with Dates and Times as well as links to all the various Date and Time functions that Excel offers:http://www.cpearson.com/excel/datet...As for your question, simply subtract the number of Days required from the cell with the Goal Date. With 11/01/2016 in A1, use this to return 9/20/2016:=A1-42(42 is 6*7, or 6 weeks.)I'll leave the other two formulas to you. ;-)Click Here Before Posting Data or VBA Code ---> How To Post Data or Code.

Hi there,

I have a whole column of dates in this format in my table: 20080602

I want my macro to change the format of the dates from this 8-digit number string, into a date format that Excel can recognize (6/02/2008). Once the dates are re-formatted, I then want to have the macro select rows with dates that are up to four days of age only for the new report.

Here is what I've got to format the dates. When I run it, the macro stops at this point and tells me to debug, telling me I have a 'syntax error'. A what?

Columns("A:A").Select
Selection.Format = Date(left(a1,4), mid(a1,3,2), right((a1,2))
Once I do get the dates right, how would I get it to select dates that are up to four business days in age only? This is what I thought I should use, but it doesn't work:

Range("A1").Select
Selection.Format >=today()-4

Thanks!

Answer:formatting dates and selecting dates by age in vba?

I don't think that you can do what you want using the Format function as you have tried to do it. You are on the right lines with the Left, Mid and Right though.
in another column put this in a Cell on the same row as A1
=mid(a1,5,2) & "/" & right(a1, 2) & "/" & left(a1,4)
If that gives you the correct "look" then Drag that formula down the rest of the rows with Dates in. Then copy the whole Range of new look dates and Paste Special>Values over the first cell in that Range or in a new column and you should now have your Dates.
In the next column type in the first cell
= if(today() - Celladdress <= 4, "Yes", "")
Where celladdress is the cell with you first "Proper" Date.
This will place a "yes" in the column wherever the date is within 4 Days.
If this is not satisfacory and you really need to have a Macro to do this you can use the same "Formatting" in the Macro, but you will require a "For/Next or For/Each loop" to do it.

Bios shows date as 1/17/2017 and laptop shows it as 17/1/2017 I can find no way of changing it.
Is this normal and nothing to worry about.

Answer:Should BIOS dates be the same as laptop dates

Looks as if the BIOS is displaying dates in US format MM/DD/YYYY rather than UK format DD/MM/YYYY, so it is showing the same date, just in an alternative format.
Not being able to see any occasion where you need to look in the BIOS to check the date it shouldn't really be a problem

Some background: I recently installed a new SSD on my Dell Studio PC and cloned my hard drive to the SSD so that Windows 7 would boot from the SSD. However, to do this, I needed to delete (after backup) a lot of files before cloning so that the drive would fit.
After having a lot of issues, including my back up software suddenly not recognizing backups etc, I finally managed to restore most of my files. Part of the process I followed was changing locations of some user files (such as My Pictures) to the old hard drive.
Anyway, I have had lots of issues with Windows since, with losses of icons etc and programs not working, some of which I have now seemed to have corrected by restoring some of my files in appdata folder. However, I've never been able to bring all these files back as I get messages saying some cannot be moved due to security settings.
Now, I am unable to open files such as explorer.exe and control panel! One message said that the username I was logged in as had prevented me from access.
This all seems bizarre and confusing to me and any help would be appreciated.
Nb: I'm detailing this all from memory whilst on a train so specifics could be a bit fuzy. I can check error messages etc when I get home if that helps.

I'm re-installing Win 7 64bit from the Microsoft disc supplied with my computer, and have been following the clean install tut no.1649. All seemed well, but at point 16, when I had confirmed the timezone the next screen wasn't as shown, but the desktop (pic 18 of 19), and nothing else.
The screen resolution was was 800 x 600 and the best I can set it to via display is 1400 x 1050 when it should be 1920 x 1080. Also I am connected to the internet via an ethernet cable, but my screen is showing that there are no connections available.

I was obviously in trouble to re-install, and now feel I am deeper in the mire. Can someone please advise?

Answer:Installation gone wrong? - Help please

You followed the tutorial for Clean Install, ok?

Do you have the Graphics Card's Driver CD? Install the driver.

If you dont have, Go to AMD Graphics Drivers & Software, download the required display driver, and install it.

Everything will be OK, dont worry

Hello, I followed the steps in the page 5 of this document: http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5443866&docId=emr_na-c03995716&docLocal... The install_id it gives me is supposed to be like : 1249679, but I've got a number with 10 digits. When I try to input it in the site to have my license keys, it doesn't work. I used my local ip for the curl command (I have no internet connexion on my HP VM, maybe the problem is here?) Maybe I need a global ip for the registration, I don't know.

Hey, guys,

I was tryin' to install Windows 7 on my laptop when it came up with a Windows Error Recovery. It told me that windows had failed to start maybe because of a recent hardware or software change, and it also suggested me to fix the problem by inserting the installation disc. Unfortunately, the disc drive of my laptop could not work any more. I tried entering the safe mode but it told me that windows could not be installe at the mode. the Last known good configuration wouldn't work, either. Would anyone please let me know what the rpoblem is and what I can do? Thanks!

Answer:windows 7 installation went wrong

What kind of laptop do you have, and did you verify that it met the requirements for Windows 7?

I installed Windows 7 Pro and by lameness checked Ultimate. Now windows pops up as counterfeit.

I really don't want to remove all my files and programs to reinstall Pro so they don't get wiped. IF I purchase Ultimate and install over what Microsoft says is the counterfeit windows 7 Ultimate version, will Windows still recognize the proper 7 Ultimate install and/or will everything get wiped anyway.

Thank you.

Welcome Pauljay to the windows forums.

If you have installed the ultimate version and you then go to MS and pay for the ultimate version, all you should have to do is to enter the code into your registration and it should then validate and you should be ok. Otherwise, I believe that you better copy all the data and anything else you want to save to an external device and then do a boot of the dvd and delete the existing partitions and then reformat and install the correct version.
Calling microsoft might help as they will be glad to sell you the ultimate version but I think that the PRO version is probably more than most people would need.

The bios loads way before windows loads..

restart your pc and keep tapping F2 or DEL key to enter bios setting..

or you can keep tapping F12 to enter the boot options menu to select, boot from setup media, then re-install OS and correct drivers

I have an old install of XP left on an additional harddrive after I got a bigger drive and reinstalled... but now all of a sudden that's the only one it'll boot to! I had some other issues (caused, believe it or not by AVG).. and in the process of that I ran a repair installation over my new and proper XP.. with all the other drives disconnected.. and it was working fine, but as soon as I hook up the other drives... BLAM it's booting into the old install again. Now in disk management it's listed as the Boot Drive and the one that SHOULD be System is listed as active... i read something about making it active to make it boot from that drive... but it's not working.. what is the easiest way to modify where it boots from? I have been trying through the recovery console with fixmbr but that didn't work... i feel like there should be something more straightforward though!

note: the drive with windows that i want to boot off of IS listed first in the hdisk boot priority in the bios...

Be sure your "Proper" boot drive is the one listed first in The BIOS boot order. The nomenclature can be confusing. For that matter, just switch the boot order and see what happens.

I have a Dell Latitude D810 with Windows XP Pro SP3. A while ago I got a 60 day trial for Microsoft Office Professional 2007 from microsoft.com and it has expired. As a Christmas gift my family got me the Academic version of Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 with Accounting (for my parents).
I uninstalled the trial version of Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and installed the first disk of Microsoft Office Ultimate which installs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Groove, Publisher, Access, and InfoPath.
After I installed the first disk everything was running fine, but when I tried to install the second disk I recieved a message saying that the setup failed and it told me it had something to do with SQL Server. What is this? What does it do?
I thought that maybe I had to reboot my computer before I could do anything because I had installed the first disk. After rebooting, my computer said: "SQLDUMPER failed initialization your installation is either corrupt or it has been tampered with. Please contact the package vendor or uninstall then reinstall."
I can't uninstall Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 and so under the impression that I screwed the installation up somewhere I tried to use System Restore to go back before I uninstalled the trial version of Microsoft Office Professional 2007.
The restore was successful and I no longer recieved the message reading: "SQLDUMPER failed initialization your installation is either corru... Read more

Answer:New Software Installation goes Wrong!

Sorry for any confusion, but I did NOT undo the restore I made; my bad.

I wish I could attribute this to someone other than me...
We have a new Dell XPS that came with XP installed. One our techs messed up the installed version of XP (long story). She asked me to reinstall XP with the disk that came with the computer. While doing the install, I accepted the default installation location, which was evidently the "D" drive. Of course, Office and everything else is having fits b/c its looks for default paths on "C".

Is there anyway to move XP to the C Drive without doing a full reinstallation? (please tell me there is)

If I do have to do a full installation to get XP on C, how do I get it off of D?

Can I change the drive letters using the Disk Mgt Option (i.e. change D to C), and is this a good option?

Thanks in Advance!!
~Ashley

Answer:XP Installation on Wrong Drive

Eh, with that much going wrong, might as well wipe the drive and put it all back on the right way, you'll probably just run into little nitpicky things down the road if you don't.

If there's any data on there you need, back it up and wipe it.

This is my first post, and I did a quick search and didn't see my problem, so I hope I didn't look over something that was already in here.Okay, I have a Toshiba Satellite S-...something or other, that, up until yesterday, was running Windows XP. I bought a usb 2.0 pc mcia card, but it wouldn't install correctly because I apparently didn't have SP-1 installed. I tried to install sp-1, and then restarted. XP loaded, and I made it to the login page, and I got an error. I forget the exact message, but it was something to the effect that it couldn't verify windows or a license I think. I clicked okay, and tried to logon, but I just got the message again.Figuring I messed up the installation, I restarted in safe mode, and did a system restore.Upon rebooting, I found that this didn't help.>.> Then I tried to tell the system to use the last known good configuration. (I think that was kinda dumb now, but I was flailing. ;_;)I restarted, and I saw the os loader screen, then a really quick blue flash, and then the screen went black, and it shut down. It stated to restart on its own, and just went in a loop. Os screen for a bit, blue flash, black, restart. It does this when I try to start in safe mode as well.Obviously, I can get into the bios and such, I just can't get windows to start.I started in one mode (I don't know which one, sorry) and it said that I had Windows XP SP-1, so I guess the installation was at least partially successful.I have the system restore discs that came ... Alicia:Yeah, when i installed service pack 2 for the first time, Windows XP would not let me log on till i activated Windows again, because it was 40 days past the date i originally installed Windows XP.  You can try starting the computer with the system restoration CD and doing a repair installation (that is, if this option is available on the restoration CD).  Then, you can reinstall the service pack and activate Windows if you are connected to the Internet (or call the Microsoft phone number indicated if you are not).http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspxIf the option to do a repair installation is not available, the only way to get to your files is to connect the hard drive to another laptop (or to a desktop computer with a laptop-to-desktop adapter) as a slave drive and copying the files you want to the other computer, so you can then copy them to a CD-R or DVD-R or other removable storage media.Doc

Hi everyone,

My computer used to have an HDD running XP. Recently, I got a new HDD and installed Vista 64-bit Home Premium on it. Since it happened a little while ago, I'm not sure quite what happened during the installation. Right now, though the Windows folder and all the program files are on the new drive, I have to have the old drive first in the boot priority, else Vista won't start up. I may have had the old drive first in the boot queue when I installed Vista, but I don't remember.

If I go to the disk manager, the new HDD has (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition) next to it. The old HDD has (System, Active, Primary Partition). So it seems that some basic system files got on the old drive, but everything else is on the new drive.

I would like to eventually format the old drive, but I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to run Vista anymore. Any ideas what happened and how to fix without everyone's favorite cure-all: reformat and reinstall? Is there someway to move whatever system files are on the old drive to the new drive without all sorts of pathing errors?

In case you need it, here are some basic specs:
Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium, SP1
Old HDD: Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500 7H500F0, 500 GB
New HDD: WD VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS, 300 GB
MB: Asus M3A32-MVP

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi all, i have reinstalled the windows XP.
When i try to update the SP2 for the system, mircrosoft told me i am not using a right product key.

Then i follow the instructoin to download a KeyUpdate Tool and i put in the product key which under my notebook, it saids it is not the correct key for the windows that i am using.
At the compare product key site, it shows:

OS Version: Windows XP Professional
Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
Model: Satellite M60
Product Key: *****-*****-*****-*****-P6R2Y

It shows correctly the manufacture and the model.
However, i am using a Windows Xp Home Edition and the key from that CD is end with *****-*****-*****-*****-Q6JWG.
And the product key from my notebook is end up with *****-*****-*****-*****-GCFKM.

Then I download the Windows Product Key Update Tool and put in both the product key from the CD and notebook.
Both of them dosen't work. I want to know how can I update the Service Pack for my windows. Can anyone help? Thx!

What can i do for that? Thx!!!!!

Answer:Wrong Windows product key during SP2 installation

Hi

I have read some threads about similar problems with the OS key and the key changing has always helped?
Sometimes Microsoft rates the image keys as incorrect or invalid. Why? I don't know... it's Microsoft you know ;)

Fact is that the key on the CD cover can be used only to activate the installed Microsoft Works or OneNote software on the notebook. The key is not responsible for the Windows OS!
The key which could be used with Win OS is placed at the bottom of the unit.

Well, according to your message you used this key and now I?m a little bit confused?
I think you should make a call to the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country for clearing this problem?

I just performed a clean install of win 8.1 (I couldn't take win 10 fonts anymore). All went fine but because I hadn't loaded Dell drivers yet, my wired internet wasn't working. So in order to connect with Dell and download drivers, I connected to my wireless.

No problem -- internet access worked fine and I was able to update all my Dell drivers. This caused my wired internet access to start working. It appears that the system made the wired connection my network (which I wanted) but it is still keeping my wireless router as the network name.

For example, if I display network connections, it shows Wi-Fi none; Wired Ethernet <name of my wireless router>

Is there anyway I can change that name??

Hi, i use a home made pc and running win xp pro with sp2. I recently upgraded my hard drive with a 200gb one as the previous one i had was to small. After installation the bios see the drive as 200gb but windows sees it as only 127gb. The drive has only one partition and was formatted using the ntfs. Is there any way i could get windows to see the drive at its correct size so i could utilize the unused space?

Visit the hard drive manufacturer's website.  Most, if not all, of them have info on their sites about hard drive size limitation issues and how to overcome that.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite A200. During the starting I made a fault.
First screen I choosed French. Second screen I would choose french again, but as it is my first notebook I am not used to the touchpad, I made an error and the starting was made in german.Actually on the screen :
Land/Region Deutschland
Zeit und Wahrung Deutsch
Tastaturlayout Deutsch

Is there a possibility to stop the starting and begin all again in french ?
I don't understand german and everything must be in french.
Thank you for help

Answer:Set wrong language during installation on Satellite A200

Hi there,

you can do the following things:

1. Recover the machine and repeat the procedure, but this time do it RIGHT and choose french.

2. You can go to start -> systemsteuerung -> (something with "Regions- und Sprachoptionen") -> there you should be able to exchange the languages but I am not sure how to do it, because I have just Vista on english.

Good luck

I had all my files saved on the secondary Western Digital 160GB Sata HDD, it was listed first at the time... But I accidentally deleted the volume on it.. Is there a way to get those files back? I had photos, movies, music, some other important files. The whole reason for having them on that secondary drive was to save them (kicking myself), until I installed Windows 7 on the new 500GB Sata HDD... I got a copy of Paragon Partition Manager 11 Personal ... and going through the Undelete Partition wizard now... Any help? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

PS. I just did the "delete" option in the Windows 7 installation section for "advanced options", the HDDs were there.. but I accidentally hit delete on the 160GB instead... That's all I did with the drive though.

Answer:Went through to Windows 7 installation, deleted wrong HDD volume..

To try and answer your question; yes and no. You can take the drive and try to have it professionally recovered. There are some companies out there that specifically recover data from these types of situations. This can be very expensive and no guarantee. I know this not what you wanted to here.

I have 3 hdd in my system and have made notations as to the location of each drive and how the OS see's each of them...ie 0 is hard drive 1, 1 is hard drive 2 and 2 is hard drive 3, which is the way I have mine installed in the hdd cage...I know that hdd 0 is the 1TB drive and hdd 1 and 2 are 320 GB for backups and data storage. Keeping in mind each drive letter that the OS assigns to each of them. So when a re-install of the OS comes along I know what hdd is what and where.

I would be so grateful if someone could help with this basically I was trying to install drivers in win7 different to the ones windows wanted to install and to do so I read a thread on changing something in a policy I had to run a command which I now can't remember and need to change it back.
it was in gpedit.msc and the command read something like enable blocking windows automatic driver installation.
I have since found I could have done this simply in system... Bit late now huh

If anyone understands this vague description of what I've done.. Please let me know.
or if there is a way to set defaults back
cheers.

I currently have Java 8, update 25 (64bit). If I go to the Java website and want to verify java, nothing happens. When I want to print a coupon the coupon website (SmartSource) tells me "Java not installed" even though I meet the criteria for their "supported version" of the browser (IE10) and the operating system : Windows 7. I checked the Java control panel and it is enabled in the browser and the "allow scripting" is also on. This all happened fairly recently and I don't know why. I have uninstalled Java 8 update 25 (64 bit) and downloaded the offline version for a fresh start. It installed properly and it shows in my programs and features of windows. Still problematic. Answer:What is wrong with Java 8 update 25 (64bit) installation?

Looks like they've changed their minds recently, only a short while back it said that 8.25 was for developers and my 7.71 still says it is up to date. I suspect it makes little difference then - they are both dated Oct 2014. When it was working do you remember what version you had?If there are still old versions around they might cause issues but the Java uninstall Tool still requires you to verify so I doubt this will work either:https://www.java.com/en/download/un...I assume the IE10 you are using is the 64 bit version. Any reason why you prefer not to go for IE11 - just wondering if that might fix it?There are some general tips here:http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10...Interesting that they say the 32 bit version gives fewer issues - maybe it is worth a shot.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

Hello, wasn't really sure where to post this but...man.

So i started off by using f8 to access windows boot command, would not run command prompt or repair.

So....I pulled out my personal windows 7 home premium disk to see if it would respond better to that repair menu or access the command prompt with the repair tools but everytime right before the installation menu it would hang up, similiar with the f8 command.

shortly after I received an error stating no valid devices are found and it would no longer read my windows 7 installation disk....system retry failed or something..

so I pulled out a box of old crap moved aside a yearbook and found an old windows 98 cd and precided to try cd booting with that which was a success.

so then i was messing with dos and deleted my partitions and fdisk exited right after...woops thought i would be able to recreate those parts....anyways it closed down and was no longer able to read the drive. prompting a> on start haha and a si... Read more

Hi,

I have a new pc and I installed windows 10 64 bit, it went well but there were a few thing I wasn't sure about, one being that the time was wrong and would not correct itself

In the end I decided to reinstall windows as it was very quick the first time, when I got to the part about which drive /partition to install to there was drive 0 and drive 1, I have 2 drives: an m.2 ssd and a sata HDD, the m.2 ssd is the system drive. It was cut up into about 4 partitions I think so I just deleted them all and then tried to proceed, windows wouldn't let me install and after searching online for solutions I unplugged the other HDD and windows let me install on to the ssd (I don't understand this because there was no problem having the other drive installed before).

there are 2 things I would appreciate some advice with:

1: The time is still wrong and I don't know why

2: I now have a clean installation of windows 10 64bit again, in disk management it shows 1 partition for my system drive, I expected there to be multiple partitions like before, is this right that there is only one?

Answer:Satellite Pro P300-1BD - Chosen wrong installation language

Hi

I assume this is not possible anymore.
As far as I know the other languages are locked or deleted and you will be able to chose only the Dutch as language.

If you need the recovery disk in French then you will have to order it from this page:

Where you can see this with Panasonic?
Have you installed Win7 using original Microsoft installation disc?
Do you use drivers from Toshiba support page?

Hi, I was opening a zipped folder when I right clicked it and accidentally set notepad as the defualt program to open zipped folders. Now I did not buy a program, whatever came with windows just unzipped it. Well when I right click the zipped folder and then click open with and try to set the defualt program to open the zipped file, I don't see any programs to set as the defualt. Any ideas? Any help greatly appreciated.

Answer:accidently set a wrong defualt program

Just download a free unzip like 7zip and install it. If it asks to associate itself with .zip and other compression extensions check yes. All done.

I was downloading a program yesterday and AVG told me not to so I didn't, I did a google search to make sure I had the right program my son had...I tried to reinstall and everything went well, I also tried to install Amazon cloud player.  AVG gave me a message about a backdoor trogan??(not sure for what program) I quarantined and did what AVG told me to do but now it seems anything pinned to program filesX86 and any maintenance, restore, accessories are doing the same thing.  I have been able to open some of my programs if I go around directly to the file(in C drives/ program files x86). it wants me to choose the program that opened it.  I do see that my programs files, users, and my main file was all modified yesterday when everything happened. I also now have a temp user which I believe I shouldn't have.  I was going to do a restore to factory settings but I realized I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 so now what??? please help I am a photographer and have a wedding in 3 weeks so I need to fix this quick.

Answer:Some thing wrong with program files x86

Sounds like AVG has flagged a file from the app as malicious...We're going to need the name of all apps you have recently installed to pinpoint the problem...

The default mail client on my computer is Windows Live Mail as I want it to be but on the XP Welcome Screen it shows the number of unread e-mails from Windows Live Messenger which is different. How can I prevent this? It happened before last time I opened Messenger but it stopped it by using software restriction. I now want to start using Messenger so the software restriction is no longer a good way to sort this out. What should I do? I appears that every time I open messenger it changes the e-mail count on the welcome screen

I have a problem with which monitor shows an activated program.

For some reason, I have had a very small number of programs that when activated, it displays on my TV screen (2nd. option) without selecting this to happen.

When this happens, I minimize the program and drag it to the computer monitor and that seems to take care of it. But I don't know why this is even happening.

Tthe program for activating PPS with Microsoft Office PowerPoint is one that I can not correct by dragging it to the computer monitor. The reason being, that there is no way the PPS program can be "minimized" so that I can drag it.

Can someone help please?

Answer:Program displays on wrong monitor

When the program is open on the 2nd monitor, drag it to the 1st monitor and then close the program. When you open the program again, it should now open on the first monitor.

Golden

Can anybody help with a simple solution for my 'older' neighbour. She uses Outlook Express as her email program and has no problem with outgoing emails but incoming mails are dumped into her previous email program 'Incredimail'?. I have never used OE so I am not sure/familiar with the incoming settings ie SMTP,email address field etc.Appreciate any help as she makes great pancakes :o)

Answer:Incoming mail to wrong program

I have Incredimail but use Windows Mail at the moment as default e mail. Think she may just have to tick the box in Outlook Express to make that her default e mail and say no to Incredimail as I have done.

My son clicked on a desktop icon and it asked him to choose a program to open with. For some reason he chose "Note Worthy" a program helpful in writing music. So now EVERYTHING he tries to open on the desktop opens thru Note Worthy.
BTW...my daughter watched a movie thru zmovie.tv and like an idiot I tried as well. It asked me to download a codec and I did and still mo movie. I removed the toolbars that went along with that stupid download, but maybe THAT has sumpin' to do with my problem?

Answer:Computer opens everything with wrong program

Website appears to be just another free movie site, IMO. No mention of malwaare using Google.<<So now EVERYTHING he tries to open on the desktop opens thru Note Worthy.>>Please...don't exaggerate . There is no program that tries/can open every type of file. What file extensions exist on those files which Noteworthy now opens?I would try to restore default associations via the BAT file mentioned/provided by Doug Knox Here .Since you mention "virus"...did you run a scan of your system with your installed/updated AV program?Louis

I use an old DOS program (dBase) in Vista 32; it runs, but uses the wrong keyboard, I use a German keyboard, but it gives the keys of the US keyboard (y instead of z, no umlauts etc.). Changes in the language bar (keyboards etc.) did not help.

I inserted in autoexec.nt the line "Keyb16 gr,850,C:\Windows\System32\keyboard.sys" in several versions (without 16 etc.). Did not work. In the DOS windows, the German keyboard is used; but when I start dBase, it uses the US keyboard.

DOSBox does not work, installing Virtual PC 2007 seems to be too much. Any suggestions?

Answer:DOS program uses the wrong keyboard in Vista

Hi, Paul48, and welcome to the forums.

I suspect that this is not going to be resolvable unless you can find some resources for forcing dBase to change the codepage that it uses - as that program is not Unicode compliant, that is why it is using the US layout even though you are using a German system. it is one of the pitfalls of using older programs on Vista.

I attempted to choose a program to run a Windows prefetch (.pf) file and chose the wrong one. Nothing happened.

I did not realise that the check box saying 'always use this program to run files of this type' was ticked and now all the .pf files in the folder are now associated with the chosen program.

Can I undo this mistake? and how would I go about putting back everything the way it was before I messed up?

Answer:Choosing the wrong program to run a file

You can run a System Restore using Windows Help or select another application to use by opening My Computer, right click any file with a .pf, selecting Open With, Choose Program, and checking the box: Always use...

Im trying to reimage a new computer with acronis and before doing so I wanted to up grade to WIN XP PRO SP3. There wew a few files that the SP3 intsaller prompted "Access Denied" errors on. I repaired permissions with a progream called Dial-a-fix and was able to upgrade to SP3. Now when I right-click on the C: drive i'm prompted to install and Esay Creator CD maker program instead of the right-click menu. After that I cancel the installer I can still access the right-click menu.

Then when I try to clone I get an error similar too " cannot access the Harddrive."

I am in the admin user. It seems like the wrong program is selecting the harddrive or easy cd creator is chosen to open drives???

I tried to repair permissions again and there was an error i failed to copy but it read some thing like "problem with drive....... would you like windows to be the default program...." I'm not sure the error is erroneus or legit....

I had Windows 7 Pro (64-bit). When Windows 10 upgraded, it installed the 32-bit system. Why? And how can I get that fixed?

Answer:Windows 10 Updated with the wrong program

That isn't possible, mate.

You either accidentally clean installed the wrong one, or previously had 32bit (unbeknownst to you). To fix it, reinstall the OLD OS (with 64bit), make very sure it is activated first, then update using the media creation tool: Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help

My Quicktime program is trying to play all the online mp3 links i click. I wouldn't mind this much but I always get an error message and nothing plays. I've gone into file types on all my media programs and chosen Rhapsody to be the player of choice - but Quicktime still tries to play the files.

I'm using IE7 and I've looked around in Internet Options but didn't know what to do in there. I took a glance at Manage Add Ons and quicktime was there and active a couple of times but I don't know if that's the quicktime player or I-tunes (which I don't want to disable).

So, all I want to do is have Rhapsody play my online mp3 links rather than Quicktime. Could ya point me in the right direction please?

Thanks Much,
Joe

Answer:Online mp3's grabbed by wrong program

right click on one of the mp3 files and click "open with" if you can't see the program click browse to find the program..

Hey all,

It's been a while since I've been here, so sorry if I've posted this in the wrong section.

I needed to remove one of my programs and re-install an older version. After doing so, some of my program icons are gone.

I did some research, and already tried deleting the icon cache, which did not help any. Below I have a picture of what some of my icons have changed to. I also have a picture of the properties window when I try to change the icon back manually:

I really would like to avoid a clean install (but could do it if there's no other solution), and I don't have any System Restore points .

Please let me know if you need any more information, and thanks for the help !!

"True Color failed to apply the requested settings. Please try again. if the error continues, please re-install the application.
please advise .

thanks.

Answer:Something wrong with true color Program

I have the exact same Inspiron which I just bought for Christmas and it happens to me as well.
TrueColor is in the program list::   Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features
I've selected it and choose to change/repair it.  It requires a reboot and I'll do that later... I hope the message goes away because it's annoying.

So whenever i open an installation exe of any kind to install a program it either appears as a a small line and an x on the centre of my screen or as a clear window that covers half the screen, whenever i click the x to close the program it wont work and it doesnt respond unless closed through the task manager, ive tried troubleshooting, running as an admin and disabling the dpi scaling of the program, ive also tried changing the text size but that hasnt worked either, another issue that is possibly related is that drop down menus in certain programs dont work, they are really thin and the button wont work. any help is appreciated
