Motherboard Spec Question and CPU Price Question

Question: Motherboard Spec Question and CPU Price Question

I am looking at ASUS or Gigabyte in the 4 slots of DDR4 2133 or higher flavor.
I was looking at this wikipedia page on motherboards.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1151
B150 looks like an attractive price point for me. We dont use many USB ports.
What does "PCH PCI Express configuration" mean?
B150 - 8 ? 3.0
Q150 - 10 ? 3.0
H170 - 16 ? 3.0

Q170 & Z170 - 20 ? 3.0

Some motherboard specification sheets state (O.C.) meaning its overclocked. So I need to OC the ram in order to get that speed. Other spec sheets just state it without (O.C.) statement.
Gigabyte B150M-D3H GSM w/ DDR3 1600, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit LAN, 2-Way CrossFireX, HDMI, DVI-D, VGA at Memory Express

4x DDR3 DIMM sockets for up to 32GB RAM (4x 8GB)
- Supports standard DDR3-1866 (OC) / 1600 / 1333MHz Non ECC UDIMMS

How long will it take for the i5-6400 (listed below) to get to around the $125 mark?
I was figuring to start with the G4400 then buy the i5-6400 later.

CPU
Pentium Processor G4400, 3.3GHz w/ 3MB Cache $85 2 core 2 threads
Core™ i5-6400 Processor, 2.7GHz w/ 6MB Cache $255 4 core 4 threads

Preferred Solution: Motherboard Spec Question and CPU Price Question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

2 laptops

Exact same price. Exact same specs except...

Only difference is:

First:
Memory type: 16 GB PC3-14900 1866 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
Solid State Storage: 1 x 256 GB Integrated PCIe

Second:
Memory type: 8 GB PC3-14900 1866 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
Solid State Storage: 1 x 512 GB Integrated PCIe
My question is which would you choose? My inclination is to go for the better SSD. The laptop will be used for normal stuff that a college/young adult would use it for...streaming and creating documents for school.

Answer:Laptop Spec Question

Definitely the second model.
8 GB RAM is plenty for what the laptop will be used for, and you'll have double the amount of storage space.

Hi all,

I tried asking about this on the Pinnacle site but kept getting mixed answers.

I recently bought a new comp...specs are:

AMD Phenom 8450 Triple-Core Processor 2.1
4 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200
Vista x64 SP1

I was told it could run Pinnacle Studio Plus in order to edit AVCHD movies. The specs for Pinnacle Studio are...

Windows® XP SP2 (SP3), Windows Vista? (SP1)
Intel® Pentium® or AMD Athlon? 1.8 GHz (2.4 GHz or higher recommended)
Intel Pentium HT or AMD Athlon 2.4 GHz or 1.6 GHz Dual core required for Windows Vista
Intel Core?2 Duo 2.4 GHz required for AVCHD* (2.66 GHz for AVCHD* 1920)
1 GB system memory recommended
2 GB required for AVCHD*, recommended for HD and/or Windows Vista
128 MB required on Windows Vista (256 MB or higher recommended)
256 MB required for HD and AVCHD*
DirectX 9 or higher compatible sound card
DVD-ROM drive to install software

I have been having problems with the editing and burning AVCHD. The video is choppy and freezes..the audio is fine. I asked around about my processor speed being lower then the specs and have gotten mixed answers about whether that was the problem or not. Some say it's too low and others say even though it's 2.1, a Tri-Core should still be sufficient. Some people are telling me it sounds more like a compatibility problem with my Vid card. Others say upgrade my RAM to at least 6 GB.

I was wondering if a new card would do? I was gonna upgrade to an NVIDIA 512 DDR3... Read more

Answer:Studio Plus Spec question...

I run Pinnacle Studio Plus at work with only 2 GB and an OB video and sound chip with no problems only I can?t have any other programs running at the same time.
I have a feeling it is the 64 bit that is the problem it may only be compatible with 32 bit

Hello,
I have a compaq v6205 laptop with vista on it, and I want to upgrade the amount of ram in my laptop. The problem I am having is that I can't find how much max ram it can hold.
I know that if you go into help and support and choose system information it is supposed to give you all that, but my computer won't tell me anything, it is all blanks where the information is supposed to be.
All I need to know is whether it can accept a max of two 1 gig ram sticks, or two 2 gig ram sticks.
Thank you whoever can find me an answer

Answer:Laptop spec question

Make sure your part number is followed by the NR, and look at this: http://crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Presario V6205NR

Hi, I'm new here, and I have a quick question regarding my laptop. I have been wanting to upgrade to a gaming PC for a while now but I don't have the money, so can someone tell me if my current laptop has good parts, and what games I am able to run?

Answer:Laptop gaming spec question

Is the Intel graphics card the only one in the notebook? Some have a discrete and an integrated and use switching technologies to save power. You will run into a wall trying to play just about anything modern on that integrated chip.

What games were you interested in?

I'm considering buying an A100-147. Does anyone know if the hard disk is SATA or IDE.

I'm also looking at the Satellite A100-207. It's ?70 more expensive, but does have a larger (120Gb) SATA disk and a slightly faster processor (1.73 vs 1.6). Firstly, is there really any difference between the Equium and Satellite ranges other than the badge, e.g. build quality? Secondly, am I likely to notice any practical difference between the two models? If not, I'll save the money!

Thanks in advance

Considering buying the A100-147 also, anyone got any thoughts on it ie good value, performance, any problems with it potentially? Seems a good deal at ?499 (UK), should i go for it?

Hi

At the moment I live in the UK but will be emigrating to the States in early September and want to make the most of the £-$ rate and buy a good spec PC but I need some advice on what exactly to buy. I will be running Maya (which is a 3D package).... I have a fair idea of what I want ....good quality graphics and render power and I have a budget of around $2500.

The question is... I know a bit about the hardware.. i've installed graphics cards.... reinstalled operating system... and RAM etc. I would very much like to build my own PC as I've been told this could save me quite a bit of money but I'm a bit unsure of what component is compatible or works best with other components! OR do I just buy a 3D high spec from dell?

The kind of spec I guess I'm looking for would be somthing like:
dual core processor
768MB Nvidia Quadro Graphics card
250-500GB SATA storage
20" digital Widescreen Flatpanel Monitor (probably Dell)

Is it worth looking at quad core processors and Quad Mon Config for the graphics card... and what about raided Hard drives?

Also what about 64 bit machines?.... I know Maya will already run on on this.

I just want to get the best possible spec on the budget I have for quality graphics and Highend rendering.

Will I need some kind of cooling system when creating lots of renders?

Can anybody guide me here?

Is there anybody on the forum from the Seattle area who knows somebody who builds to spec?

Any help mu... Read more

Answer:Hi, Newbee question, top spec for $2500

Quad monitor configuration with a single graphics card would in your case mean Quadro FX 4500 X2, it would have 2x512 MB of RAM (see the Quadro comparison here)

If you want lot of screen estate, an alternative could be one or two 30" monitors (with 2560x1600 resolution each), although those are still quite expensive, wouldn't fit into your budget.

I recommend RAID 5 for that kind of work, so it would require at least three hard disk drives. RAID 0, while it might be faster, provides no recovery if one drive fails. See more information about RAID here.

The standard cooling you get with (boxed) CPUs and graphics cards should be adequate, they're designed to cool the parts enough even in high temperatures. The noise level might be a concern however.

Hi,

just wondering about the new Intel Core 2 Duo processors - why can you buy a

Intel Core 2 Duo - 1.83ghz - E6300 for about £125

whilst a

Intel P4 - 630 - 3.0ghz - skt 775 is £115

wouldn't the Core 2 duo cain the latter in speed tests? why the small price difference?

just curious...

Answer:Duo Core Price Question

CPU's are priced based on supply, demand, manufacturing cost, and all those other fun economic principles... not speed. Those prices mean that one is a better deal than the other, but not much else

And actually, without seeing any benchmarks, I'm not sure how much of a difference there would be in speed...

Hey,
XP Home for $50 or Pro for ~$75...which is a better deal? Both are OEM as far as I know, unregistered keys as well.

For a laptop (pentium m), personal use, if that makes a difference. I use home usually, will I notice anything significantly better about pro? I know a few of the differences, but is there really anything worth the price difference?

Thanks.

edit: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/choosing2.mspx looking here, the only difference I feel that I would use it the remote desktop. is this worth $25 more, or am i missing something else that is worth the price difference?

Hello,

some time ago I found an old Toshiba notebook, its Satellite Pro series machine, model 4220. It has Pentium 3 450Mhz, Trident video card with MB and 256MB ram. The only question is, how much it cost when it was released, and when it was released.

Thanx.

Answer:Satellite Pro 4220; Question about the price

Wow, you question is very special ;)

Hmm? this notebook was released many years ago? it?s an oldie :D
As far as I can remember it was released November 1999!!!

But unfortunately, I did not find any prices!!! I think it?s not possible to say what this notebook had cost.
The notebook dealers create the notebook end prices and it depends from many factors like country, supply and demand, etc...!

But maybe some grannies and grandfathers could remember the prices ;)

Hi,

There's this friend who was asking me as to how can I check if the programs he will install will not hog the resources of his pc..Well I don't have an idea about that...

He has this Dell Optiplex pc with 2gb ram and Pentium D processor formerly running XP but now has Windows 7 Basic installed. He has already installed MS Office 2010. Other software I see are Glary Utilities Pro, CCleaner, Imageburn, Foxit Viewer, Daemon Tools Lite, Malwarebytes free and Avast Free.

Now he is planning to install Adobe CS4 and some games like NBA games, Counterstrike, DOTA etc..Well I am not a gaming freak and my pc is a pure work pc. But I believe at that spec of a pc he has and not even a video card installed I think that pc will crawl...

How can I check if those applications will make the pc suffer or shall I say crawl...?

I seem to have read that it can be computed as to the amount of ram consumption based on the system requirements of an application versus the ram available of the pc but do not know how..I remember that Windows 7 consumes 1gb of ram in idle meaning doing nothing while it is on...yes?

I think that there has to be a way how to determine what he should have as amount of ram for that pc versus the summation of the system requirements of the applications that are installed and he wishes to add.

Can it be determined/computed or......? How..?

What may be a better explanation as to how can these applications that he wishes to install will make the pc slow? S... Read more

Answer:Determine amount of ram or system spec based on applications that a user wants to install question

Usually the system requirements for a game/application take the operating system's RAM/CPU/GPU/etc. use into account. This is why sometimes you'll see different system requirements for an application for different versions of the same operating system.

On a computer with 2GB of RAM and no discrete video card, modern games are going to perform badly on high graphics settings, and likely not much better on the medium settings. Low settings should be playable, but not very pretty. A decent graphics card will make a huge difference here.

Answer:motherboard/mem question

Your machine will take a max of 1GB memory.

Sorry, but you are better off building a machine for gaming and keep the Presario 6600 for Internet browsing. There is really no way to upgrade the Compaq, due to the PowerSupply would not handle the video card, and the back of the case will not fit the backside connectors on other motherboards.

I recently (by accident) removed a processor from one of my computers. In doing this, until I removed the processor from the heatsink, it became impossible to install. Now, my question is, (since I didn't apply any extra thermal compund), will my processor run hotter? If so, do I need to use a better cooler, or simply add more thermal compound? The processor is a Intel Celeron 2.5gHZ socket mPGA478 with stock cooling inside of a Compaq S5010NX computer system.

Answer:Motherboard question

It's not a question of extra thermal compound. You have to clean off the old compound and apply fresh compound. To reassemble without doing anything, seriously risks overheating the CPU and quickly too.

I kind of regret buying such a crappy motherboard and CPU, but it can't be helped. I got such a crappy motherboard from my cousin. I didn't want to be mean and not use it. I have learned many new things while building my computer. I now know that a 533MHz FSB CPU is bad. I plan on switching my old motherboard with an ASUS(Intel) Motherboard. Problem is I'm not sure which model to buy. My price range for it is US$100-250. I want dual channel in the motherboard. I also plan on buying new ram with my purchase of the motherboard. I plan on buying 2x512MB PC3200 Corsair XMS Series, but they are so many different kinds of them and I'm not sure which one to buy. Yes, I do know the ram is a bit much, but I'm willing to spend that money. I'm a hardcore PC gamer and I do not need the best of the best Corsair ram, but what I do want is a decent one. I also plan on buying a new CPU(800MHz FSB), but thats way later on. Could you guys please give me some advice?

Answer:Question about motherboard and ram

Don't get an ASUS motherboard. They might of had good boards in the past but not anymore. I had one with an nforce chipset and it wouldn't work with my nvidia gfx 5700 card for some reason and they had terrible technical support. In choppy english said 'Buy new video card it, it work with motherboard' cause it was straight out of taiwan. Got an MSI board worked fine. From my experience MSI motherboards are a good way to go. you can go with a cheap MSI board that will have up to 400 FSB for that PC3200 ram you plan on buying and its all compatible with the XMS series because I asked their technical support about kingston hyper-x series.

I had one thread started a couple of weeks ago concerning my 40 gig HD 7200 rpm on the gigabyte ga5-ax motherboard, to no avail still does not work. Anyways I have decided to put the 15.3 gig western digital HD 5400 rpm back in. It boots up fine and works great, however I noticed that just as it gets done detecting the drives upon booting (AWARD BIOS), its says:
Primary IDE channel no 80 cable installed installed
what the heck does that mean? anyone know?

Hello all, I have a question regarding my MoBo. I'm planning on getting some Ram sticks since mine is pretty outdated, but I can't seem to find it on PC Part Picker which lets you know whats compatible with it. My Speccy says this, and I've done some research, but all it does is bring up the model of the Computer, which is apparently the same model as the Motherboard..?

Motherboard Manufacturer ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Model M52BC (Socket 942) Version Rev 1.xx Chipset Vendor AMD Chipset Model RD9x0 Chipset Revision 02 Southbridge Vendor AMD Southbridge Model SB910/950 Southbridge Revision 40 System Temperature 43 ?C

Excuse my tech illiterate self, but I was just wondering what the heck to do now. The MoBo is weird, and does not really seem to be considered one on PCPartPicker for the matter and I'm just stumped.

Answer:Question regarding my Motherboard

So I take it the PC is running Windows 10? If this is a yes then...
Right Click on Windows Button > System
And if possible please can you tell me the CPU model?

I think the RAM you'll need is DDR3 but if I know the CPU model I can just double check.

So my husband wants to replace some of the parts of his computer, but he doesn't know what's compatible with it. Specifically, he wants to get a new motherboard, a new processor, and a better video card. He has a Gateway 9310X which currently has a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz and a NVidia GeForce 6600. He wants a better card to play games with and a dual core processor. Also we do have a budget, so we can't afford the more expensive parts. Any recommendations? Thank you.

Answer:Question about a motherboard

He's probably going to need new RAM to go with the new motherboard (actually, almost guarantee he'll need new RAM, since his existing board probably takes DDR, and all new boards use DDR2 or DDR3). He'll probably need an upgraded power supply as well. About the only thing guaranteed to carry over from the old machine will be the hard drive(s), but even then he'll need to reinstall his operating system to work properly on a new board.

At this point, it's probably more cost-effective to just get a whole new machine - they're usually cheaper than pricing out all the parts separately, especially if you find something on sale.

Ok , so im not to computer savy and basically only know how to change ram and video cards.... Well Currently I have a Dell Dimension 4600i with an unknown motherboard, nvidia geforce 7800GT, 2gb of ram, windows XP, and a pentium 4 (x2) 3.00ghz processor.

Im planning on getting a new SLI motherboard, 600watt psu , Q6600 Processor, and an 8800GTX, windows vista and maybe a new sound card....

So what i wanted to know is, will changing all these parts (mainly the motherboard) be a huge hassle? or is it quite easy?

ps. if its really hard , my friend will help me put it together but i dont want to bug him if i can do it myself...

Thanks In Advance,

Answer:Motherboard Question....

70% of the time something doesn't work out and its a hassle. I'm assuming that you know about motherboard compatibility with CPU, RAM, and GPU. make sure everything is compatible or it won't work. You will want to get a mobo that is compatible with Pentium 4 LGA 775 socket. Make sure the mobo has a PCI express x16 slot for yout 8800GTX. I'm assuming the ram on that board is 240 pin DDR2. If you order everything that is compatible you shouldn't have too much trouble diy. Get a static discharge band from radio shack so you don't damage any party.

About a year ago my specs were:
Asus A8N-SLi Premium Socket 939 Board
AMD Athlon 4000+
1GB Ram
7600 GT

Now I've upgraded because of a little accident, I got a stack shot between two wires on my motherboard which either killed the power supply or the board itself, now that I'm up and running I want to know if my CPU, 1GB of ram and MOBO are salvageable for another pc. Should I try another power supply? or cheap Motherboard? Or am I wasting my time?

Answer:Motherboard Question

I would start with a multimeter and test the power supply, and eliminate components from there.

Ok this is going to come across as a really ignorant question... please hear me out!

I've got an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ system based on an MSI K8N SLI mainboard.

The board is currently running w/ 2GB (2x1GB) of Corsair DDR 3200, and I have been considering moving it up to 4GB as I am running Vista 64.

What concerns me is what I read about this board on the MSI product page, and honestly, I'm not really sure what this would mean to me!

The product page can be seen here: MSI Computer Corp. - Product

And the verbage that has me wondering, "What does this mean to me?" is below. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated before I shell out any cash on more memory! If I am reading it right, it will only utilize 3GB when 4GB is installed?

Due to the South Bridge resource deployment, the system density will only be detected up to 3+ GB (not full 4GB) when each DIMM is installed with an 1GB memory module

Thanks in advance!

Answer:RAM/Motherboard question?

The way I read this is, if you place a 1 gig stick in each slot(4 slots correct?), the board will only read 3 of those 4 gigs in total. If that is the case then you would want two 2 gig sticks of memory only using 2 slots? Pay attention to the slot colors and combinations you install the sticks per the documents on the board.

I'm a little jumpy about my motherboard since my last one fried. My old pc was an eMachines T6216 desktop which I had had for a little over a year. About a month prior to armageddon, the screen suddenly became distorted while playing Rise Of Nations. I rebooted and all was fine...About a week before armageddon, It became distorted again while playing WarRock. I then force quit and tried to reboot. Nothing. The fan would spin, the harddrive spun, and the blue light which showed if the computer was on was lit. So i got a little worried and tried it again later. *Phew! it worked. Everything's all better now right? WRONG! Later on it did that same thing again, then again, then again. Each time more often than the last. I was in the middle of thinking that it was a motherboard problem(my graphics were onboard) when it died for eternity. Gone, kaput. Same thing with the fan and light, but it never booted again. Some reliable sources told me it was a motherboard problem, so I bought a new PC. After having it for almost a month, I've been a little scared about my motherboard. Recently certain programs at certai ntimes would go into a GIANT lockup, and just as I was about to press reboot it would un-lag. Also, while playing Rise Of Nations(*gasp), parts of the screen, and objects in the game would occasionaly flicker. Also, thsi seems like a ultra noob question, but if there was water on a CD that got inserted into the disc drive, is there any LOGICAL reason to think th... Read more

I have a Dell XPS 400, bought around 2005/06, I have been getting "keyboard error" prior to windows startup. If it can get past startup I get a "unrecog USB" error after a minute or two and the keyboard and mouse wont work ( keyboard/mouse are wireless, USB only computer). Botomline, if the computer wont recog USB ports does this sound like a motherboard issue?

Thanks

Answer:Motherboard Question??

I have seen issues where (either when hooking up a new wireless KB/Mouse or after a Windows Update), a system won't boot properly with a wireless KB/Mouse.

If you have access to a wired USB KB/Mouse, connect them, disconnect the wireless dongle and try to start the PC. Do NOT use a wired KB or mouse with a PS2 (round) plug connected through a "cheater" adapter; these don't always work.

If the system will boot with the wireless KB/Mouse, go to CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE PROFILES and be sure there is not a red "X" or yellow "?" by any of the items - these indicate missing, corrupt or incorrect drivers.

Other things to try:

Will the wired or wireless KB/Mouse work on the front USB ports?
If not and you have an open PCI slot on the motherboard, you can try adding a USB 2.0 card (buy it at a store with a decent return policy if it fails to solve the problem).

Beyond this, I would suspect an issue with the mobo. Given the age of the PC, I wouldn't spend more than $50-$75 on total repairs. If you can't afford a brand new PC, look at "off lease" refurbished models from TigerDirect.com or MicroCenter. You should be able to find one (with genuine XP Pro) comperable to your old one for about $150, and you may be able to salvage the HDD, memory, etc. from the dead one and add them to the "new" PC.

Beware of used PCs on Craigslist and at smaller computer stores. If you look at one, hook i... Read more

I recently bought a new motherboard. (This)

In the users manual it has, has a list of qualified ram vendors. A review on newegg says this is important. I was wondering if I order something not in the manual, from a manufacturer thats in there but the model isn't, will it work? (Example: I order Kingston ram, but the model isn't on the qualified vendors list)

Answer:Motherboard / Ram Question

If you match up the specs it should work, most people don't use memory of the qualified list and their systems work fine. Only a small set of memory is tested but most board manufacturers. Its just more of a guarantee thats been tested and known to work, less chance of compatibility issues. Also note that memory manufacturer's also test RAM with board and have lists of their own on their sites.

This link will take you to all of the microATX 478 mobos at NewEgg:

I don't know Intel, but from where I am, the Gigabyte GA-8IG1000MK and the ASUS P4P800-VM look sweet. Both can handle up to 4 gig of RAM and support dual-channel.

The EPoX EP-4VKMI and the ASUS P4V8X-MX look good, but both can only handle 2 gig and have no dual-channel. Both of these offer built in SATA RAID.

All four of the boards I listed offer AGP 4X/8X.

A friend of mine was talking about his motherboard and asked if I had ever made any adjustments to the jumpers on the board. Is that possible? Are there jumpers on the board to make it run faster or his board older and newer ones don't have them?

Answer:Motherboard question.

Most older boards have a good number of jumpers. They are used to change the fsb and toggle settings and features on mother boards. New mother boards dont have as many, most of the toggle features are in the bios.

I would say that if your pc is slower than 1ghz than you have jumpers. The jumpers look just like the ones that you put on the back of your hard drives or oprical drives to tell it master or slave.

it means one of the ram slot is faulty, which is a common problem of the T30. The T30 can actually take 2 x 1 gig of ram, so if one slot is faulty, you can still get a 1 gig module for the working slot.

Hi all ,

This is proberly going to sound like a stupid question but I could do with some clarification on this as I am going to order a new motherboard seeing as my current one wont let me overclock.

I had a dual core cpu which I overclocked nicely , but the new cpu seems to be a bit of a bad egg in the quad core department. Its a Q8300 and the fsb is 1333.

Now this is where I need some help,

As I understand it , my motherboard is only rated to 1333 fsb so am I correct in thinking that's why I can't overclock?

The motherboard is a Matx G41 , I have been looking around and it appears all G41's are 1333 fsb max.

However G31's are upto 1600 in OC which it states in their descriptions.

So am I right in thinking if I get a G31 Matx then provided the bios has the facilities then I should be fine to overclock with it?

Not wanting to overclock loads , just beef it up a little.

Oh and any recommendations for a G31 Matx if that is what I need?

Thanks in advance

Paul.

Answer:Could someone help me out with a motherboard question please

You can always overclock by upping the fsp and keep the RAM at 1333 by using a divider. Can you could link to the board for a more definitive answer?

No, the motherboard is OK. The spark came from the PSU, -right? This is agues based on experience.  The PUS has a glass fuse that gives off a blue spark when it fails.

Hi, I'm not sure if anyone will be able to help me here or not.Basically I've recently fitted more RAM to my home PC (512MB) thanks to the advice of people off this siste and to be fair it's a lot better. The guy that fitted it for me is a friend of my Fathers and say's he can get me 2GB of RAM to make it even quicker than it already is. He's asked me to find the following information. When he fitted the memory he got 2 x 1 GIG with PC 3200. All I know is that it's something to do with the Motherboard on the system. The motherboard is made by NEC and the PC is an I Media 5061 by Packard Bell, the serial number is 024000520339 if that's any help.Any idea what I should be looking for here, the computer is quite old mind, think my bro bought it back in 2002.

Answer:Motherboard question

click hererun the memory advisor tool from the linkclick hererun this on your PC it will tell you what MOBO you have, you can then enter the info in the first link.

I'm new here first off, but i have a question as to wether or not my motherboard is any good and if i need to buy a new one for what i want to do. i currently have the ET1331g-03W model emachines and it has a MCP61PM-GM motherboard and currently has an AM3 socket AMD athlon 2 X2 E235 dual core processor i want to be able to upgrade to a quad core. So my question being: Will my motherboard handle a quad core or will i need to invest in a slightly better mother board and if so what motherboard while semi cheap is still decent enough to easily handle a quad core AM3 socket with PCI-E sockets for graphics plug-ins and such.

Hi - I was thinking about increasing my memory, but the motherboard I have (Board: Giga-Byte Technology Co., LTD i815-ITE8712) currently has 256mb and 2 lots of 128 in the other 2 slots. So presumably, if I kept the board, I'd have to ditch the 2 128s and replace them with 2 256s - is this right? If so, it isn't worth it, is it? I don't understand the implications of changing the motherboard so does anyone have an 'idiot's guide' to what I'd have to know or find out before I take this any further, please?I use it a lot for photography and want it to speed up - it's a bit like walking through treacle at the moment, despite defragging, ad aware, spybot, MS antispyware...I've got a Pentium 3 and XP Home. Thanks

Answer:Motherboard question

It depends on the memory you have now and the processor. If your current memory is 100mhz ,it is doubtful if you will get matching memory, even if it is 133 memory, the chances are you will not get the correct speed on a new block --Think of it as a road system--if both memory chips are running at the same speed (i.e. both on main road), no problem, however if the new one is running at motorway speeds, it will cause problems. Secong ..if your processor is not able to handle the increased load, you may get system instability.-- Hope this helps--Terry

I have an Intel Pent 3 ,Someone gave me a Geforce 7300 video card but it won't fit into the motherboard ,does not have pci express,Question ,can I switch motherboards? if I buy new what should I get ?

Answer:Motherboard Question?

Yes you can switch mother boards but to get one with a PCI express slot you will need to upgrade to P4 or Core2 (or equivelant AMD). That basicly means building a whole new computer as you will need: a new board, new CPU, new RAM, new power suply and may need a new case.

Hey guys,

just another quick question. I have a Biostar M7VIG-Pro Socket-A VIA KM266 motherboard. I am currently running a pretty crappy CPU - think its a 1.1GHz Duron.

So 3 questions

1) Will this run a barton core? The manual only says Athlon Thunderbird, Athlon XP, and Duron - since it says Athlon XP - its fine with the Barton core?

2) Does it make sense to buy an Athlon 2600+ Barton 333MHZ FSB and 512k Cache CPU? Or since my motherboard is only 200/266 FSB - I won't really benefit and should get a 2200 or 2400 or something? Or is having 512k vs 256 on the lower models enough to justify getting the 2600 - if its runs fine, the cost difference seems minimal.

3) Finally /heat sink on my Duron processor be enough to handle either of the new CPUs?

4) lastly, what's the deal with the thoroughbred, barton, for Athlon XP... ? I presume those are better than getting any Sempron or Opteron or anything like that?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:CPU / Motherboard / Fan question

the motherboard details can be found here It will not support the Barton core, the website lists the the 2600XP as the fastest it supports, on a 266 bus. Your current heatsink will have to be upgraded (not expensive). And in terms of the Sempron - not rated better than the XP, but the Opteron is a far better processor - which needs a new mobo.

I would say that a 2600 266 processor will be a significant and worthwhile upgrade, as will a graphics card to replace the crappy S3 graphics on your mobo.

If it is shared memory, I wound want to get a PCI express 16x card. Something with 256meg and under $100 if I can. I have been looking at the GIGABYTE GV-NX73T256P-RH GeForce 7300GT.

Any sugestions?

I'm thinking of purchasing an ECS K7S5A motherboard to upgrade my system but I want to make certain it will fit in my case. My case is a full tower ATX form factor. The motherboard I currently have in is a San Li P2BXA. The dimenstions of this board are 305mm x 190mm. I see that the dimentions of the K7S5A are different (ATX 304mm x 244mm), 4 Layers. Will it fit my case? Thx in advance! : )

I recently got a computer with an ECS 945GCT-M (version 2.0) motherboard. It has 2 gb of RAM in it, and there's still another slot open. When looking up the maximum memory supported on the ECS website (and other various sites), they all usually say 2GB, but then say:

"* After ECS validation, this board can support DDR2 max to 4GB, please refer to memory support list"

Can somebody explain to me what ECS validation is?

Hi,

I was wondering when a motherboard, Athlon64, with PCI-E, DDR1 and 2 and AGP supports will become available in the high-street computer stores? I have been looking around for such a motherboard like on eBay and large computer stores, even looked on USA sites to check if there was such a motherboard. Does anyone know if there is one OR when one will become available?

The reason i am asking this is because im getting tired of buying new motherboards when new technology is available, like PCI-E and DDR2. I want to be able to "Future Proof" myself for at least a good few years or so. I myself will not be buying PCI-E and DDR2 ram just yet because i am content with what i have now. Plus seeing this stuff has just come into stores the "beginnings" of these products will not be too great - IMO it's best to wait a good few months while they get into the swing of things and i am doing just that.

Any rumors, threads or the like would be great help. Thank you!

hey friends, im currently the highest bidder on a BIOSTAR A880G+ AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard...im thinking of building a Gaming PC, and wanted to hear your input on this motherboard, will it suit my needs? i will be getting a Phenom II X4 at some point in the coming weeks and a 500W PSU, so what do you guys think? any suggestions on a contrary, would greatly appreciate it.

Heres the link to the MB on Ebay:

Answer:Question about Motherboard

I hope you've studied user reviews of that 'board. Biostar MBs don't have the best reputation but that price looks ok to me. I'd checkout a Phenom II X2 Black Edition with a view to unlocking/overclocking it, add 2x2 sticks of good DDR3 and a decent gfx card, it should be pretty good.

Good luck with your bid!

I was looking at my system, and in the motherboard section it says:

bus width 64bit.
real clock 100mhz
effective clock 100mhz
bandwidth 800mb/s

Just curious what does each one mean, is it good or bad lol.

thanks

Hello, I'm trying to upgrade my old Compaq Presario SR1630NX.
It has an ASUS A8AE-LE motherboard.
I would like to replace the motherboard with a Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H Motherboard. Will I have a problem installing the necessary drivers? One customer review noted that-
"There is one HUGE problem with this mobo if you plan on hooking up a SATA hard drive though. You're going to need the drivers and there not found on the enclosed CD. Funny thing this mobo, when installing windows it asks for the sata drivers via a floppy disk. No floppy-good luck. I can't see how you're going to get the OS onto the HDD. Once I did a bit of fishing on the suppliers website via an extra computer, I was able to load the driver(s) on a floppy and the rest was a piece of cake. Bottom line, if you're going to install a SATA drive you must have a floppy attached. Get the drivers from the manufacturer and you won't bang your head for 4 hours like I did. You're going to love this mobo. If you aren't going to attach a floppy, get another motherboard or use an ide HDD."
Can you please tell me how to go about installing the drivers without a floppy disk?

Answer:New Motherboard Question

Do you have the sata drivers? Also what os are you trying to install?

There is a way to make your own custom windows install including the Sata drivers.

Also did you already buy this motherboard?

I'm about to buy a new budget PC, but no matter where I look I can't find any reviews or even write-ups about the motherboard. It's an Aopen MX-46, the specs are here, (or at least that's what I was told): http://www.powerspec.com/systems/system_components.phtml?component=523&selection=8330
Anyways, my question is this: what kind of reputation for hardware does AOPEN have? I don't see many of their MBs in ads for PCs and the fact that I couldn't even find them listed anywhere on motherboards.org made me wonder. Am I just being paranoid? I figure that the MB is a fairly important part of the system (understatement) and even though I plan to upgrade in the next year or two, I don't want to bother buying a system with a P4 if I'm not going to be able to enjoy any of it's performance because the MB is lacking. So, if anyone knows anything about AOPEN, good or bad the info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer:Motherboard question.

you can look at http://www.aopen.com/products/mb/DDRSK478.htm.
While you are there you might look at the entire Aopen website to give you an idea of the company.
.
I did a Google search for the board.(aopen mx-46) This first review I found ishttp://24.116.115.130/Aopen%20MX%2064.htm, and not too flattering. There may be more.
You might want to detail the system and price, to get comments on this and other comparable systems
You might look at the thread "recommendations needed" to see if an intel processor is right for you. AMD is cheaper

I am looking to build my 2nd desktop and would like some opinions on a motherboard, I am looking for a Pentium based board maybe a 478 socket or even a 775, I could be persuaded to something other than a Pentium if the power is there, I have been a faithful Northwood consumer, this desktop will be used for gaming purposes and heavy apps, my last project contained a Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra and I was and still am very pleased with that board. Thanks in advance.
