Preferred Solution: Digitizer pen for ThinkPad T440s?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I currently have my ThinkPad T440s connected to two external monitors via the ThinkPad ProDock 40A10090US (One VGA and the other DVI-D). I currently have the two monitors and the laptop displaying separate desktops. However looking at the laptop screen is a pain when switching back and forth between the two large monitors and the laptop. I was curious if my current setup with the T440s and the Pro Dock (40A10090US) could support three monitors (One cloning the laptop screen)?

Answer:ThinkPad T440s + ThinkPad Pro Dock 40A10090US = Triple Monitor?

I don't know if you can use both the on-laptop DisplayPort and the dock DVI-D at the same time, but if you can, you should be able to get the three monitors of output you want. Not sure if you can force it to clone the laptop display, but you might as well skip the internal display entirely.

Hey, does anybody know which pens are compatible with the Yoga 460?For me the pen tip feels a bit too hard on the display. I've had the Note 10.1 2014 with a better Pen and bought a Lenovo stylus. But they were passive digitizers...

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga 260 & 460 Digitizer

Hi, welcome to the forums.

I can only talk from my experience.  I have ThinkPad Pen Pro 4X80H34887 on my Thinkpad Yoga 14 ( 20DM008UUS ).
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/itemdetails/4X80H34887/460/41E9A3C3FB5A45A9AC47C56812E4188C

For what I know (I may be wrong) the Pen Pro uses Wacom technology, it has a battery inside. I found it very nice with a nice size... but it depends on personal taste.

Can you post the full model number of the computer you want to check it will work with the pen?
I know that the Thinkpad Pen Pro web page may not say much. So, what I saw it was recomended on this forum was:
1) Check your computer model against the PSRef Books: http://psref.lenovo.com/
See if your model is listed with "Active Pen" support.

2) There is more information about the Thinkpad Pen Pro here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/acc100178

There is also the Thinkpad Yoga Pen , but I don't have experience with that one, some amazon review says it does not have batteries and it focus for replacement for Thinkpad Yoga that came with pen... but I don't know.

Regards.

Hi, After working out that my laptop (Thinkpad Yoga S1) most likely has a digitizer, I purchased a pen for it. However, since I wasn't 100% sure, I bought a cheaper, off-brand pen that people said was compatible, the listing for which can be found here. I received it today, but my computer seems unresponsive when I try to use it. When I went to Wacom Pen or Pen and Touch Input, the pen calibration screens were either blank (Wacom) or didn't load (Input). Is there something else I have to do to make my pen work? Did I purchase the wrong pen? If it helps, the pen slot on my computer is still plugged; I was going to unplug it, but to do so I'd have to remove the back paneling, and one of the screws keeping it in place has been stripped. The thread confirming that my laptop has a digitizer is here. Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga digitizer pen

Hi

Please notice that this is my personal opinon and it does not mean I'm 100% right, this is based on my experience.

I think that the "Digitizer PEN for Lenovo ThinkPad X60 X61 X200 X201" is for older Thinkpad models. I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (Similar to S1) (20DM008UUS) and it has a digitizer screen, but it requires an "active pen" (with batteries inside) to be able to work with the digitizer.

I have the Thinkpad Pen Pro and it works fine with my model. I still think you have a digitizer on your laptop but I think it is the wrong pen.

Here it also some more info about the pen that Amy wrote.

Regards.

I've seen several threads about this issue, but none that address my specific concern.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14. It did not come with a digitizer pen included. However, I suspect that the screen does in fact have a Wacom digitizer layer. My rationale is this:

My computer came pre-installed with the Wacom Pen Calibration Software
Device Manager reports the following HID devices:-- HID-compliant digitizer-- HID-compliant pen-- Wacom Device
When I run the Wacom Hardware Check (available here), it reports "You have hardware compatible with the Wacom FEEL driver."
All of the 20DM008 models listed at http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/179 support the active pen (I cannot find the 20DM008U++ model there for some reason)

However, the computer will not recognize the ThinkPad digitizer pen I purchased.

So, I suppose I have three questions:

Am I just misinterpreting what I am seeing in the Device Manager?
Is it possible that Lenovo installs the Wacom screen on all it's tablets, but disables them somehow on models not marketed as digitizer ready?
If so, is there any way for me to enable my screen to allow for digitizer use?

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga 14 - Digitizer Pen

Good day.

Looking at the models that support pen at the PSREF link you included, please notice that it specifies "Active Pen". This is not the same as the ThinkPad Digitizer Pen. That's why it won't work for you.

You need the newer, AAAA battery-powered Active Pen. Apologies, but I don't have a link for it.

Edit to add: Have a look at this - https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/acc100178Please see the Compatibility section for important info.

Hi! I would like to buy this Thinkpad yoga model and I would like to know if the screen is digitizer enabled and it comes with the pen. What is the storage capacity on this model?I asked various vendors from this site and everybody tells me something different... http://www.shopbot.ca/pp-lenovo-thinkpad-s1-yoga-i5-4300u-20c0001hus-lenovo-price-483964.html

So the majority of the vendors told me that the storage is 180Gb SSD and that the digitizer pen is not included. Anyway the screen is an fhd1920 x 1080, so my question is... If I buy a pen somewhere willl I be able to use the digitizer stylus anyway?Thank you

Hi, Could somebody please point me to the place where it list the digitizer in the Thinkpad Yoga as a Wocom? I see it all over in review sites, but I can't find it in the description or the product specifications. I'm interested in this model:20CD00AVUS, which I know includes a digitizer, but I want to make sure its definitely Wacom... they all just say "digitizer". So I guess what I am trying to figure out is:1. Are ALL digitizers installed in Thinkpad Yoga's the same, or do they vary in brand/quality?2. How can I find out if its a Wacom? Thanks for the help.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga - Wacom Digitizer?

First off the digitizer technology consists of two parts the digitizer enabled screen and the digitizer pen. Second i'd say all the TPYs have the same digitizer Technology (both screen and pen) licensed from Wacom. So the pen itself is probably prdouced by Lenovo or a third party. --- By the way other products like the Surface Pro, Vaio Duo or Galaxy Note have the same technology built in and you can use there respective digitizer pens for the TPY as well.

Hello, I just received my new shiny TPY (again). The first time I got it, the digitizer wasn't working. After a bit of research I realized that it probably was a hardware issue (No digitizer, pen or wacom device in device-manager). So I send it back. The mainboard got replaced and today I have my machine back. It was all working fine including the digitizer. But from one minute to the other it stopped working and I can't find any wacom or digitizer devices in the device-manager.Now my first thought was, that the Windows updates messed something up, so I've done a rollback but it's still not working.Am I doing something wrong or is it a hardware issue again? Thanks for advance.Robinhuett

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga - Digitizer is not working

Hello. It isn't a Hardware Problem. It seems to be a software problem after Windows 8.1 Update. I have the same problem :-( When I start the PC it works perfect, until I used it as Tablet. After that the Digitizer Pen didn't work. So I reinstalled all drivers. After that the pen worked.. so I tested it again as Tablet, after that. the Digitizer Pen didn't work. Now I installed all drivers again but the Pen didn't worked. It is a big problem at Lenovo, because Lenovo has problems with the pen software a long time. It is soooo sad because I love the Thinkpad Yoga but with this Problem the price isn't acceptable. So I am going to send it back and wait for the Surface Pro 3. Because Thinkpad stands for the perfect Business Notebook and now... Lenovo has with the digitizer pen more problems than all others. And this is very sad :-(

Ok so i just recieved a thinkpad yoga S1. The one i got was the one without the digitizer pen automatically installed into the computer's side. The pen came separately and its the exact same one as the one used with the version that comes with the pen. I dont know the product code or even what its called. Which driver do i install and how can i register the product? Also, since the version i have has like a little black piece where the digitizer normally goes is there any way i can take it out and be able to accomodate the pen that came seperatly?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 digitizer help

I think there is only two options it either comes with the pen or it doesn't. The one that doesn't have the pen built into it doesn't support the pen because of the panel used. That is waht I remember when I was researching into this unit.

Hi everyone. I am looking to buy a laptop for university (studying engineering). I would like something that is durable, and powerful. Thats why I am looking into getting the Thinkpad Yoga. I love the convertable and compact feel, as well as the SSD that I will be getting with it.  However, another reason why I wanted to get it is because of the 'Active Digitzer'. I didn't even know what this was called since a week ago, and I still cant seem to understand what this feature will allow me to do? How does the Digitzer benefit me? Especially when I compare it to the Yoga Pro 2 (even tough that also has a touchscreen). Am I unable to draw on a YP2? Would I not be able to draw on the screen? I want to use it mainly when I use Adobe Illutrator. Is the Digitzer option worth the extra money I have to pay? With that feature added on, I will be paying almost $2000 :s

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga: Is it worth it and Digitizer?

Hi there: I have been using X230T, a predessor of Thinkpad Yoga. X230T also comes with a digitizer. I bought X23)T also for a reason: I can take note during class. I am not an engineer but a finance student. 1. You might want an Active Digitizer because it allows you to write on-screen. Use Microsoft One Note. Your computer can replace your pen and paper.2. You can still draw on YP2. But what do you feel when you use your finger, say your pointer, as a pen  YP2 does not have a digitizer pen. 3. The pen I believe is included. You do not have to pay extra unless you want to have a spare one. 4. I think Lenovo Thinkpad has lost its quality legacy from IBM. I do not like the new layout of the keyboard (I like the trackpoint but the moust click now share with the trackpad. It is just ridiculous. You cannot have an accurate click with it (for me))5. Just look at the Microsoft new Surface pro 3. You might like it! If the next time I upgrade my computer, I would by a Surface pro instead of the Thinkpad.   Cheers

Hey guys!I am looking forward to buy this beauty here: http://shopap.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/thinkpad/yoga-series/yoga-14/ it's the second one with the 256 GB ssd and i7.I already asked this question to the Facebook Page of Lenovo Australia and New Zealand, but the guys there didn't get it.Does this particular laptop come with a wacom digitizer? So could I use, let's say, a wacom intuos pen to draw, make sketches and write notes?I asked the guys on Facebook if the laptop comes with an active digitizer layer, but all they answered was "it doesn't come with an active pen". They didn't answer on my second question whether or not if it comes at least with a wacom digitizer. That's why I signed up here Thanks for your help!

I've read that the 20cd0032us and 33us Thinkpad Yoga models are the only ones without an active digitizer.  However, this appears to be all that is for sale on Amazon and other places.  Any idea of where you can but a Thinkpad Yoga with an active digitizer??

They are only available on Lenovo's website as far as I've seen. I tried looking other places like Amazon, too, but haven't seen the digitizer model. I ended up buying one directly.

Hello everyone, I'm in the market for a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga for work. It needs to have the digitizer pen/panel. How do I determine if the model has a digitizer pen/panel? Hello,I just bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 12 (20DL000SIX) that does not come with the pen apparently (I still have to receive it physically), but *does* have the full HD capacitive screen multitouch (1920 x 1080).I also bought separately the Thinkpad Yoga digitizer pen (4X80F22110).I spent a lot of time to understand if the two are compatible (i.e. the wacom digitizer is installed or not on the laptop), and on Lenovo website, following Products -> Accessories&Software -> Search For Compatible Accessories For Your System, it looks that indeed they are:http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:find-compati... I see that there are multiple posts on similar issue, confirming that the communication of Lenovo about pens and digitizer is really inadequate.I read in many places that the thinkpad yoga's that don't come with the pen do *not* have the digitizer. I also read that the full HD screens does have te digitizer. So, I'm getting confused...: my yoga does have the full HD but does not come with the pen included! There is no clear information anywhere and also the Lenovo  support (I called on the phone many times) is not satisfactive on this.Does anyone have the same model, or have a more clear idea on this topic? Thanks!Giulia

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 12: digitizer? (20DL000SIX)

Hi giulsi

I also agree with you on this subject. There is much confusion with the "pens" on Thinkpad Yogas.
I think that Lenovo should specify better on the webpage (shop) which Thinkpad Yoga came with Active Pen, and on the Pen pages (also on the shop page) they should specify which models apply for it, and where to search if you computer has support for it.

How to know if you Thinkpad Yoga is Pen Compatible?
For the moment one thing that works to know if your Thinkpad is "Pen Compatible" is to search on the PSRef books.
http://psref.lenovo.com/
or
http://psref.lenovo.com/Book

I searched your model:
http://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkPad_Yoga_12?M=20DL000S%2B%2B
It says it has:

Pen
Digitizer pen

So that's good......
There are other models that says "Active Pen".. not sure if that means it only works with the "Thinkpad Pen Pro" or not.

How to resolve the question of which pen is good for you?
Thinkpad Yoga Pen suppor page:
https://support.lenovo.com/ec/es/documents/pd030464
It says "The ThinkPad Yoga Pen supports the ThinkPad Yoga." So it may also work.

I'm guessing that it will work, but please post back when you get your pen to see if it works with your model.
Regards

So like I do from time to time, I'm configuring a Thinkpad Yoga to mull over (window shopping until I can afford one) when I notice that there's no mention of a digitizer or pen functionality any more, anywhere. Did something happen to it? Pen support was a deal breaker for me.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga - Digitizer not available anymore??

I noticed this missing info too when ordering my custom ThinkPad Yoga, so at checkout I added pen from the optional accessories. When my laptop arrived, it came with two pens! One inside the laptop package, and another in separate box. I suppose it might be their website issue or country-specific supply issue.

Couple of questions for you: 1) How did you reinstall windows? Did you use the IBM Recovery CDs *, Reload the OS with F11 *,  or install a market version of XP Tablet? * I'd highly recommend using the original IBM image to ensure there are no issues with drivers!! 2) Did you update all the Tablet drivers? If not, go to this website to install the driver: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-60154 You may want to also use the ThinkVantage System Update Tool to check for missing drivers (Start->Programs->ThinkVantage->System Update) - If you don't have our original preload installed, download this utility from here:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=TVSU-UPDATE This should at least get you started. Best,Mark

I just purchased a refurbished Thinkpad S1 Yoga from outlet. The description mentioned nothing about coming with a pen or having digitizer compatibility although these descriptions are generally not very detailed to begin with. I was reading that some of these machines (FHD) with the same specs as mine don't come with a pen nor  compatibility and am not sure if those two features can exist separately.  I think the newer versions all have both. Is there a way to tell if mine's compatible or not? Answer:ThinkPad Yoga Digitizer Question

the digitiser pen on Helix, TPT2 and Yoga all lack the traditional eraser function of the traditional ThinkPad X series tablet. There is a side button on the digitiser pen, which you can use for eraser function. Alternatively, get the X series tablet digitiser pen which has an eraser function, they work with the ThinkPad Yoga (and is what i am using now).

Twice now, my Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet Digitizer Pen - stylus has dropped out of the tablet only to be found later on my family room floor.   Given the expensive price tag on these pens (Office Depot has for $65), it would be nice if these pens could be locked into place so that they don't come up "missing" for whatever reason.   Has anyone else found a way to keep better track of their pen, short of not putting it in the holder on the tablet? Joe

Have you tried to tether it to your tablet?  There is a hole in the stylus clip and the tablet that you can use.  Beyond that, you can send it in to have the stylus catch replaced and see if that helps.

Hi all, My issue is that one day while my laptop was on the bed, it fell onto the floor and I think it broke in half, with the screen assembly seperating partially from the mainboard. I wasn't worried at the time because it seemed like a minor fall, and the computer stayed on and was fine. I snapped the two back together, expecting that nothing was wrong -- but then I noticed the digitizer had stopped working. I turned off and popped open the computer to see if anything inside was visibly damaged. Everything looked fine. It's been a while now, but having been fed up with it, I popped it open and re-checked all the connections to make sure they were tight. It *seems* to me that the digitizer cable may have been folded too aggressively and developed a kink? I could also be seeing something that isn't there. I'm thinking of replacing it, but I don't want to waste $30 for no reason. What could the problem be? Why would what appears to be a perfectly intact and functional digitizer suddenly become absolutely and completely unresponsive? Thanks!

Hi I hope someone can help me. I have had my S1 for about 10 months now and i have had no issues with the pen and using it. I used the pen last weekend in lectures, taking notes with no issues or problems and have gone to use it today, as part of my assignment, and it just isn't working at all. It doesn't matter if its in laptop, tent or tablet mode, i get no resposne from the pen at all. I have had a look in the device manager and have no issue notifications, but likewise, i can't locate anythingthat i think looks like the digital pen drivers (nothing Wacom in there). I have searched around the forums and o-line and can't seem to find anything that might help me. Have even searched, without finding, how to unistall and re-install the Wacom drivers. If anyone has any suggestions on how to diagnose and resolve this problem i would be really happy to receive them. many thanks for your help Chris

Hi, Today (or last night, not sure) three columns of my TPY 460's digitizer seem to have stopped working. Two of them are right next to each other, the third one a little further to the right. (I'm guessing the number of columns by the distance of the small dots that you can see on the display when you look at it from an angle). When I tap the pen onto the two defective columns, nothing happens, when I drag it across, it stops on one side and then jumps to the other. It's similar for the single column, but there isn't a complete stop and a jump, more of a non-linearity, the cursor moves slower, then faster, then slower again. For finger touch, the problem is similar. Is this a common problem that can be fixed by properly plugging  some cables or should I return the computer? (It's a demopool device, so I have no warranty, but I can return it within two weeks without a reason).

Hey, just in case someone is interested in pressure sensitivity for the Thinkpad Yoga.Try this driver from wacom ;-)http://www.wacom.eu/index4.asp?pid=9278&lang=de This morning I had a phone call with the Lenovo Support Europe regarding the subject, but all they were able was to tell me to send my brand new Yoga in. I can not tell you how disappointed I am from this support. They are hardly to understand and they know nothing!!! As an early adopter of the Thinkpad Tablet 1 this was not my first experience with them and the only reason to buy the Yoga was that there is no alternative for my kind of usage. Nevertheless I found the solution by my self and I can't tell you how happy I am. Not to be misunderstood, this is a problem of the european support I don't believe (or hope) that it is the same with the US support and especially the Lenovo Staff in this forum does a really good job!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga - Digitizer pressure sensitivity

Hey, I have one question, I'm planning to buy thinkpad yoga from online Netherlands... and I'm not sure whether the digitizer is included or not.... its not written anything on the list about digitizer while customizing the product.... do you know from where I can buy the correct wacom digitizer which can also fit in the holder of the thinkpad yoga...??? Thankss

Hi everybody, quick question: my Thinkpad x201 Tablet provided the option to deactivate finger input, i.e. use only the digitizer, which I quite like when making presentations, as this way no accidential input occurs when resting your hand on the screen while writing. I now bought a Thinkpad Yoga 2. Couldn't figure out yet how to deactivate finger input there. Any ideas? Any workarounds? Thanks a lot.

Okay guys, I just figured it out: finger input is automatically disabled as long as the digitizer is near the screeen. I had a large diet soda dumped on me while I was riding the train to work, it got all over my laptop bag and I thought my helix was spared, I got most of the liquid off the bag and wiped the helix down the best I could at the time, I didn't see anything later that night when I got home.   However a day or so later, I noticed what appeared to be some liquid trapped between the digitizer and LCD, 2 small bubbles in the corner of the screen.  I could probably live with it, but I know me and this will drive me crazy knowing it is there.   A friend suggested putting the helix tablet in a bag of dry white rice for a few days to see if that draws out the moisture.  I guess my question is, what are my options if this doesn't work?   Live with it, or replace the LCD and digitizer in one go?   How difficult/expensive a proposition is this likely to be?   I'm especially mad since I can't afford to replace the whole helix, to buy a similarly specced device is cost prohibitive, unless I buy refurb and even then I don't want to spend quite that much money.

Answer:Liquid intrustion bewteen digitizer and LCD on Thinkpad Helix

The screen and digitizer are one part. The screen is unlikely to be fixed by packing with rice. What is the model? Screen resolution?

I am experiancing a strange problem with the pen/ digitiser: after waking up from standby, the pen seems to go into a frenzied clicking when i touch it to the screen, i.e. as if the pen is tapping the screen continously at very high speed. The problem goes away upon restarting the machine but comes back after standby. I have installed all windows and lenovo updates to no avail...any one familiar with the issue?

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 12 2015, pen digitizer issue after standby

On certain occasions after wake up from standby, the pen seems to stop working completely until a restart. It seems to be very intermittent.I looked for updates to the wacom driver on wacoms website, with no luck. Strangely enough, the current driver being used for the thinkpads (and presumably all tablet pc's) comes under their 'Legacy' drivers section!

I have just purchased the ThinkPad Yoga. I was wondering if there is a way to change what "handedness" you on when using the digitizer pen. I am left handed and the pen is obvioulsy configured to be used with your right hand. So when I write using the pen the writing and the pen tip to not match up like it is supposed to. It matches perfectly if I were to write something with my right hand but when I use my left hand, the writing is off (as in the letters do not match up to where I wanted to write them) Any information on this would be great, kind of anoying for trying to add notes in class. Thanks

Hello all, apologies if this is a duplicate issue, but my searches did not turn anything up. I just received my new TPY a couple of days ago and have been happily installing software. Today was the first time I really tried using my digitizer pen, as I finally had time to open Photoshop and Illustrator. In doing so, however, I discovered pen calibration is completely messed up for the top edge of the screen. I tested it outside of the Adobe programs and the same problems occur there. I have already gone in and tried recalibrating my pen more than once using the calibration tools in the Control Panel. Is this a known issue that I just need a driver update for or is this a hardware issue? Any help is appreciated. Thanks,Erika

Today my digitizer stopped working for the first time since I purchased my Thinkpad Yoga several years ago. Touch screen still works as normal. I don't think it's software related because I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu and it doesn't work in either operating system. Before it would work in both operating systems, and I haven't had any updates since it was last working. Is it possible for the digitizer itself to be broken somehow? I haven't dropped the device or spilled any liquid on it. I've read elsewhere on the forum that the digitizer is powered by a capacitor that is charged within the laptop. Is this still true for Thinkpad Yogas? Are there steps I can take to diagnose the issue?

Dear All,This is my first post here, so firstly I would like to say Hello to all of You  I want to buy new Lenovo Thinkpad T440s. A few friends are recommending this laptop, but..I have read several topics here and I am little bit confused. Screen bazel problems, touchpad/clickpad issues, strange noise issues and others.I read a bit here about it. Could You tell me if these issues were solved??  I would like to purchase T440s Full HD (touchscreen or non touchscreen), 256 GB SSD, 8 GB RAM, Integrated Intel Graphics Card. So the question is shall I buy new T440s?? I read that Polish Lenovo service is not efficient and good. Unfortunately.. I don't want to purchase T440s and be forced to return it or send it to Lenovo service and wait for unfinished period of time.. For that amount of money I can buy Macbook Air or Macbook Pro with Retina Display, or Dell Latitude E7440. Please help me! Thank You in advance. Regards,Krystian

Answer:Should I buy the new Thinkpad T440s?

Hi Krystian and welome to the forum

I been using a T431s for a while and then switched to a T440s as soon as available. They are almost identical and now i been using the T440s for a few months. I think the T440s is great and the only thing i dislike is the trackpad which i disabled. I had no issues with the T440s and would recommend this computer as well. I picked the T440s with the i7 and no touch since i do not use the touch screen anyway. Without touch the T440s is a bit thinner and lower weight. The company i work for use a lot of Lenovo Thinkpads and believe we got at least 50 x T440s now without any major problems so far.

I don't know much about the Polish Lenovo service so cannot say anything about that. Neither do i know anything about the Dell model you refer to. I also use a MacBook Pro Retina and are familiar with MacBook Air. Those are great as well. It's hard to compare and give a straight answer if you should choose T440s or a Mac. Some love Mac and some hate them. It's a different OS and if you are familiar with and prefer Windows i would say that the choice is easy.

You also have to remember this is a support forum and you will always find many people that is unhappy with the product or have some problems in such a place. Also some that complain about the service. Very few people stop by just to tell how happy they are, but start searching for such a forum when there is some problems. So this forum might not represent the general opi... Read more

I have now had 4 users in about weeks time have the T440s die and not be able to power up.  We have tried the reset button with no luck.  LIterally no lights come on, nothing.  It is beyond frustrating right now.  Anyone else having issues lately?

Answer:Thinkpad t440s dead

I upgraded to Windows 10 last week and ran a battery reset. My internal battery went from ~20WH capacity down to 12WH capacity, which freaked me out. I ran it again and its back up to 15WH but for a year old computer that's pretty sad. I wonder if the internal batteries are starting to fail and that's what you're seeing.

Here are my first impressions on the T440s which I have just switched over to.  Mine is an i7-4600U with the Full HD MultiTouch screen, 12GB of RAM, 512 GB SSD.  This was a CTO configured model since no TopSeller units were available with the 512GB SSD.  I bought a couple other TopSeller T440s units at the same time that had a slightly lower spec. My previous computer was a ThinkPad T420s. I work a lot using a Lenovo docking station with dual monitors on both the T440s and my previous T420s. Here are some of my thoughts on the T440s:The screen is so much better than the T420s (and T430s which I avoided largely because of the display).  It even tops the T410s (except in aspect ratio).  I would sure love to see 1920x1200 in a laptop screen...Touch screen in Windows 8.1 is so far less important than I thought it would be, but I expect that will change as I wade into Modern UI apps down the road. This computer is very, very fast.  Installing Windows 8 Enterprise and apps was sooooo fast.  Windows loads so fast after pressing power, to get to UEFI BIOS or vPro configuration, I had to do them off restarts instead of cold boots. The new material for the surface looks similar, but shows marks, especially oil from fingers much easier.  I prefer the rubberized coating of before.I don't prefer the flipped logos on the top lid, because I look at my computer docked most of the time.  The result now is the logos are upside down to m... Has anyone experienced issues with a thinkpad 440s not powering on at all after a full charge, with and without the battery?  My T440s was working fine two days ago and now won't even power on. Here's what I've tried: - with and without the battery- original charger that works- different charge that works (from a different laptop) Any suggestions? I don't mean to vent here but I called technical support and they simply said "give us $650 and maybe we'll fix it". Seeing how this is my company's first Lenovo laptop (we were all Dell equipment), this will be our last with how I was treated so far.  A company as big as Lenovo should do a better on their customer service.  They should be ashamed of how they brush their customers aside.

Hi jeremyf10,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Can you please try few more troubleshooting steps as given below:
Remove the battery and AC adapter
Remove the hard drive and wlan/wwcan cards
Remove both RAM modules
Re attach the AC adapter and boot
If you don't hear a series of loud beeps it probably means a hardware issue.

Please let me know whether the above steps helped you to assist you further.
Thank you, have a good day.

Answer:samsung ssd evo 840 kit or non kit for thinkpad t440s

If you plan to do a fresh install of Windows, then the bare drive will do.  Just put it in, boot on your Windows install medium and go. If you plan to clone your existing install, and you are going to use the ThinkPad to do it, then you need a USB dongle that can connect the drive to one of the USB ports.  That's what the kit part is:  a connector that includes data and a power. Or, you can put the new drive in a HD bay adapter, if your model has a bay. Or you can put the new drive in an external USB drive enclosure if you already have one. Or, you can mount both drives in a desktop PC with open slots and clone the one to the other there.  You don't have to be booted on a drive to clone it. So, if you already have some means of connecting a SATA drive to your ThinkPad via USB, then you don't need the kit. Finally, I recommend Macrium Reflect as the cloning software.  The Samsung data migration app can be buggy with how it transfers the System Reserved partition.  It also sometimes assigns a drive letter where it shouldn't to that partition.  Macruium has a free version that will do clones just fine.  Simple and intuitive.

First off, I am an Electronics Technician by trade.  I have 25 years of experience with all kinds of electronics.  This one has me scratching my head.  This all  started because I had an issue with my touchpad so I changed it out.  During the process I removed all power including, power cord, external battery and internal battery.  Replaced the mouse pad and put everything back together.  When I went to power it up I got no response.  Here are the things I have tried. 1. Hold the power button for a minute.  Tap it 10 times then hold anothe minute.2. Remove all batteries and press the power button for 1 minute.3. Remove all batteries and the RAM module and press the power button.4. Press the reset button through the cover on the back of the machine.   5. Lastly I disconnected the CMOS batter along with all other power.  The last step actually let me me boot up my machine and everything was working like normal.  I was happy I had fixed the problem, but I didn't.  Once I shut down the machine it still will not power back up.  I have to disconnect the CMOS battery again in order for me to powe up the machine.  Once the machine comes back I updated the BIOS to the latest version and that didn't help either.  I am stumped!  Any advice that anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Thinkpad T440s won't power up

It sounds like the power button.  Make sure the little cable is inserted all the way and is straight.  Also, the little board with the actual button might not be mounted correctly.

Answer:thoughts on the thinkpad T440s

I use a T440s as my main laptop and have done for almost 2 years.  I love it!  I can easily get 10 hours of battery out of it, the Full HD screen is a joy to work on, it's really light and portable and despite that is still very well made, last Monday it went flying off my lap and bounced across a wooden floor (long story), still absolutely fine!My machine is the touch model (albeit with the touchscreen disabled) with 8gb RAM, 250gb SSD (factory installed Samsung), Full HD IPS display, 72Wh rear battery and 3 cell internal battery. i5 4300U.  Backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader.Definitely get an SSD and a RAM upgrade if 4gb won't cut it.  Just remember that it takes 1.35v DDR3L RAM instead of the more standard 1.5v memory so bear this in mind when buying the RAM.As far as the touchpad, as a trackpoint user coming from an x230, I hated it, even as a touchpad it was so loud I felt awkward using it in lectures!  It's not something I could just get over, used it for over a year and never got used to it!  I'm talking in the past tense as I purchased the touchpad for a t450s and fitted it myself, I now have a much better touchpad (which I keep disabled) and more importantly for me, physical trackpoint buttons!  The hardware is a direct replacement, drivers under Windows are fiddly but supposedly can be done however I run Linux on mine (Debian Sid) which it worked with with only slight config changes to enable middle button ... The digitizer is glued to the LCD making replacement of just one of the two parts nearly impossible. Brad

Has anyone used this Lenovo Number Pad with a ThinkPad laptop?  I asked this question over at the "Accessories" board in July, but never got an answer.  Perhaps this board gets more attention. The T440s has no numlock key and no embedded number pad in the keyboard.  That makes direct keyboard entry of ASCII characters impossible (using Alt + code).  Anyone who does scientific writing is going to find this a puzzling ommission.  If I attach the 33L3225 USB number pad, which has its own NumLock key, will it work to enter ASCII characters into texts?  For example, the degree symbol is Alt+248.   Thanks.

Dear All:I have a Thinpad T440s, the original OS was W8, I noticed a problem when started in the Windows Loggin, the touchpad stop moving the cursor, not a big issue because the trackpoint move the cursor without problem, but also the click is not sensed until I press a key (right shift for example) then the touchpad start to works again. I thinked was a problem of W8 and I move to W7, the same problem.I tried to leave working only the trackpoint from the touchpad configuration app, but still the clicking is performed by the touchpad and the click was not possible if the touchpad freeze until I pressed a key.I tried several things like unmount the keyboard from the computer and run with a USB keyboard and the touchpad works fine, never freeze.after the test I install the keyboard and disconnect only the trackpoint, same problem, I think the problem is in the keyboard because I can't enter to the BIOS setup when the screen says "press Enter", with a external keyboard I can enter to the setup and the enter key is sensed.Other problem detected is sometimes when the cursor stop moving by the touchpad behavior, the cursor start to blink in the screen, the problem of it is the PC never enter in to sleep process and eat the battery or leave the screen on all time.I tried the following with out improvement:Update BiosUpdate Touchpad driverUpdate Touchpad firmware.also I read several pages on Internet and in this forum, nobody have the same problem, I am also owner of a Thinkpad EDGE ... I am writing about a haziness/blur on my touchscreen laptop. I sent it to Lenovo Support, and they said there is nothing wrong with it. If I plug the laptop into a regular computer screen the difference is clear. Is this a problem with the touch screens? Should I expect that the touch screen is not going to be as clear as the non touch due to the extra layer of plastic or glass? I spoke to  3 people at the Depot that has the computer and am getting no where. They are telling me the screen was just dirty. That is prob true, but not the cause of the unclear screen. Thanks

I recently purchased a thinkpad T440s and was experiencing some screen flickering/ghosting issues. I sent it in for repair and they replaced the display. However, upon recieving my laptop after the repair there is now a small spec of dust or a scratch under the new display. I'm wondering if there is any way to remove it? It seems to be under the screen. I'm worried that any attempt to remove it by myself may void my warranty. You can see it in the bottom right in the two images below.

Answer:Thinkpad T440s dust behind screen?

The dust spec is stuck between the layers of the LCD and can't be removed without damaging the screen.

If there were more than one specs I'd attempt another warranty replacement, but a single spec is unlikely to yield that result.

Good luck.

We have been purchasing ThinkPads since the mid 90s and have almost always been very satisfied with the performance and design of the device. Our latest upgrade was a move from the T510 to the T440s and while there are some nice features, the new keyboard and especially the trackpad are a horrendous disappointment. I didn't realize how bad the new trackpad/trackpoint where until I had to pull out the T510 for a few minutes to format it and get it ready for donation. I immediately felt far better control of the cursor and didn't have to fight with the device to have it figure out what was a right, left or center button press. I understand Lenovo wanted to make the trackpad bigger and needed to do away with the buttons to get there, but this solution is horrendous. We have several T440s here and all of them are the same. Why does clicking a button have to give off a loose/rattling sound?  I should note that when I give up on the trackpoint and shift to using the trackpad the response isn't much bettter. I've setup gestures multiple times (every update seems to wipe them) and functions like scrolling work sometimes, and sometimes not. Sometimes two fingers will work, but one finger along the edge won't.  This trackpad is so far behind Apple's technology it's a joke (and I'm no Apple fan). Also, I miss the old function keys. I miss being able to hit Fn5 and have control of my wireless radios (Bluetooth and WiFi). I also liked the dedicated volume/mut... Read more

Answer:T440s - ThinkPad has lost the magic.

Unfortunately I agree completely.  After a dozen or more ThinkPads over the years, I've been struggling to "love" the T440s but failed.  I'm having terrible performance problems - such as over a minute to save a new file.  The mouse pointer sometimes jumps from one side of the screen to the other.   The loss of the left & right buttons for the mouse clicks is a BIG mistake.  The touchpad is way too rattly - as it's standard across all new ThinkPad range, I suppose it's a low cost component.  Unless I can find a late last-generation ThinkPad available, this will be the moment I leave ThinkPads behind. A very say day.

Hi.My parents recently purchased a new ThinkPad T440s, and loved the computer. This afternoon; however, it refuses to boot. It started when my mom closed the lid and it went into sleep. When she came back, it wouldn't turn on. I cannot seem to get it to do anything. I took out the external battery, plugged it in, held the power button, and tried everything I could find online to do without actually taking it apart. I don't feel very comfortable taking apart computer hardware, as I am into computer software, and not hardware. Any ideas or help? Answer:ThinkPad T440s + Nvidia = no docking?

they route the extra heatpipe for the discrete GPU through the area for the dock connector, and it was just easier to remove the dock connector to having to redesign the new heatsink piping network for the T440s with discrete GPU. The Discrete GPU on the T440s isn't very powerful, and given the new Intel integrated GPU can support 3 LCD simultaneously.

Hi, The fan of my Thinkpad T440s is running all the time (it is only quiet the first seconds after boot up) and becomes very noisy even under minimal CPU load. The fan doesn't stop spinning, its noise is very anoying and gets on my nerves! The fan is running more frequently,  noisier, and at higher speeds than it used to when system was new (1 year ago). I dont think that this problem is related to my OS or drivers (up to date, just like my BIOS version) because the fan is also noisy under Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (my current system) or Linux MINT. But I'm not 100% convinced that it is a harware problem (bad fan, assembly problem, defective CPU thermal grease, etc.?). The CPU temperature mostly stays around 60C and 75C (room temperature is 22C). However the air blown is not warm, so in my opinion it is not overheating related. But if I open a software, or extract an archive, or doing anything else (but with a normal CPU usage) the CPU temparature takes +5C in few seconds... And +90C on worst case after stress test. The decibel level of the fan is arround 47 dB (room at 31 dB when the computer is shut down). The problem still exists if:my computer is on battery or ACis change the Windows power plan (Balanced and Power saver)I change the power options "Intel SpeedStep technology" or "CPU Power Management" on BIOSScreenshot: nsa37.casimages.com/img/2015/12/31/15123103350362544.jpg The highly-pitched noise is very annoying. i've got a T440s that was upgraded to windows 10 about 6 months ago. after installing a new brother printer yesterday, the machine won't boot any more; it just goes directly to automatic repair, then diagnostics, neither of which help. i tried several system restore points, but sr always fails telling me it can't copy the registry. i ran the lenovo hardware diagnostics which fails in the targeted read test of the hard drive with bad sectors. i am backing up all the data (which is on the solid-state drive ?) manually from the cli prompt (that still works) before i do anything else. next planned step is to run the bad sectors tool). i'm wondering if the bad sectors are where the registry (or its backup) is stored, and if so, then will "fixing" the bad sectors destroy the registry to the point where i need to do a refresh. this is the first time i've dealt with a system with a hybrid drive (ssd for start-up & os, hd for storage. since it was originally a windows 8.1 machine will running the refresh put back windows 10, and if so, will it know where to write the refreshed os files to the ssd and hd? all suggestions appreciated.

I installed the most recent ThinkVantage Password Manager software yesterday through the Lenovo Solution Software.  It is version 4.70.20.  Today, when I booted my computer, my fingerprint reader is no longer working (it worked yesterday before the installation and all day yesterday after the installation).  I cannot find a fingerprint reader in Device Manager, but there is one "Unknown USB Device (device Descriptor Request Failed)" which is listed as not working in device manager. I feel like the software update killed the fingerprint driver as it is no longer available in any application (windows logon, website logon, etc.).  Has anyone else had this problem?  Can someone from Lenovo Support please look at this issue? I've installed no other software recently and have uninstalled and reinstalled both the ThinkVantage Password Manager and Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro (version 8.01.26(x64) today to try to resolve the issue.

Chances are the USB device is the fingerprint reader. Try right-clicking it in Device Manager and uninstalling the driver, then letting Windows auto-install a driver.

Hi, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T440s with Windows 8.1 and I'd like to use the 3G modem. To do that I've installed the "Ericsson N5321gw Mobile Broadband Driver" and also "Sierra Wireless EM7355 - Gobi 5000 Software" and "sierra wireless em7345 software. In regards the software the only think I can run is a "Mobile Broadband Update" that it tries to update something and then it fails because "it can not reach the server". In the other hand de 3G Modem does not appear in the device manager. So:Can you confirm that Lenovo ThinkPad T440s has a 3G modem? (I can confirm that it has the slot for the sim card)Can you describe a workarround to make the modem work? Thanks in advance.JG

Everything was working perfectly fine on my T440s with Windows 10 Pro, I am not sure what caused the issue, May be a driver upgrade touchpad is no more working. I suspect that it's not a hardware issue because button clicks works and scrolling in web pages works. The Driver version which I do have currently installed is 19.0.17.115 from Synaptics.  If I open the mouse properties I can change settings for TrackPoint but TrackPad options are grayed out. Can't make any changes.  I tried different drivers from Lenovo, Reinstalled Windows 10, Tried Resetting Windows 10 and Reinstalled drivers but nothing works. I would like to hear from any T440s owners which version of driver they use and if everything is well with Windows 10. I am thinking of making some modifications in the registry to get it back to work.  Any help ?? Thanks in advance!!

Gentlemen,After much painful research on a workhorse grade ultra-book I have decided to go for a Lenovo thinkpad t440s. I'm a full time linux user who will mostly be using the system for my R & D work where I will be running a lots of vms and etc.The moment I get my hands on this laptop I want to replace its 500GB 7200 2.5' stock hard disk with a "Samsung EVO 840, 500GB" ssd. Well I have no experience with ssds. What I want to know is that is there anyone in this forum who has installed an EVO 840 500GB in a t440s? Mainly because I'm not sure how much SSD capacity t440s sata interface supports? As per my other question, I have heard that it is recommended to install identical memory sticks of same capacity. In my case I have a 4GB in the base and 8GB which is not an identical combination. Would this be a problem by any mean? Or should I go ahead and order the system with 8GB instead of 12 GB(it will be 4 in the base + 4gb then), even though it wont entirely meet my ram expectations? Please advice good people. Many thanks in advance/Bindo

Hi all, I was trying to install new Win7 x64 install on a couple of new T440s since we are using MDT. Now the following problem occurs:After installing a clean OS with the SCCM package + fingerprint manager pro the reader is not working/recognizing my finger. No leds happen or what so ever. When I open up another T440s and an OOBE install from Lenovo the fingerprint reader works. Now out of the box the Biometric drivers that are installed are called Validity drivers and a different version of Fingerprint Manager (sorry for not knowing that specific version number). In this situation the fingerprint reader works just fine. But when you install with the latest drivers it's called: Synaptics FP Sensors with Fingerprint Manager Pro v8.01.35 (x64). Any idea on how to get the fingerprint reader to work on a clean install ? Looking forward to hear from u. Thanks in advance

Hello there. I was wondering what the different sizes and weights of the new Thinkpad t440s is. I have only found the following: T440sAnd regarding to that:331mm x 226mm x 20.65mm; ab 1.58 kg (Non-Touch)331mm x 226mm x 22.94mm; ab 1.76 kg (Touch)with68+ 6-cell battery ? 180gr.But there is also the one option with a dedicated graphics unit, both for touch and non-touch, which somehow are not dockable. So do they differ also in size and weight?Plus, it has been years since my last thinkpad. So I might be new to its new era. The 6-cell batteries, which can be optionally bought, instead of a 3-cell one. Are those the ones, which sort of come out of the back of the laptops? I found those things pretty formfactor-killer. And I wouldn't really consider of getting one, just for an extra few hours, whereas the two 3-cell batteries already deliver like 12 hours. Thanks a lot for the answers already!PS: How funny, that the official Lenovo website doesn't have this kind of information.

Hi you guys!I would like to excuse my bad English in advance. This happened like three days ago. Regular reboot. No forced updates or any installation, just an ordinary reboot. But then, all of a sudden, I couldn't work my ass out of the boot screen. It doesn't go in to loop either, just standing there, acting like a d*ck. I've tried ALL F-buttons but none has worked at all. But if I FN-lock them, I can change the brightness and that kind of stuff - SO, it's responding, but nothing more nothing less. And because I can't choose different boot, neither go into BIOS, I feel kinda f-ed (did my motherboard actually brick it self?!)Tried so far: BIOS battery, int+ext batterypack, w/ and w/o AC adapter, disconnected the harddrive, disconnected the RAM. And you know what? The same screen. ALL of the times.Any suggestions? Try to recover bad sectors (if any) in another computer? I would love to have USB>S-ATA right now, but I'm going to use it ONCE, so that's out of question.Kthxbye, love <888

Hello, if you don't have the UltraNav suite for the TrackPoint/TrackPad installed, then youneed to install that. Then you should get all config options. Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver If you want to completely disable it though, you can do that in BIOS. Config -> Keyboard/Mouse -> Touch Pad to Disabled. I disabled mine in BIOS.

HI,I have an annoying issue with my new T440s.Trackpad stops working after I get it out of sleep. In fact, it works partially (two finger, edge scrolling is OK).Even I re-install the driver, it won't work everytime.Any suggestions? Is this a hardware issue?thank you.

Just more information about the issue: The trackpad is acting like being disabled in BIOS.2 finger scroll , side scroll are fine. When my screen dims down, I touch the pad and screen is back up."enable touchpad" is grayed out in Mouse Properties under control panel. All trackpad features are fine, only the mouse is not working.Another thing I noticed: when I get to Windows login screen works fine (sometimes), but then, once I get authenticated and get Windows loaded, its stops working.BTW, I'm using Windows 7 Driver reinstall, reload factory image, enabled/disabled in BIOS.. nothing helps.Hopefuly a Lenovo stuff would read this and share some thoughts. This is my second 440s replacement. First one did not wake up, after it gets to sleep.

Hi, I have a problem with my laptop (just over a week old) and can?t find a solution.Model: Thinkpad T440sThe laptop came with Windows 7 and apparently was working fine. I installed Windows 8 with the DVDs that came with the laptop and started having problems (see below for details). I went online to install Windows 8.1. Same problems. Tried resetting the Bios (2.17) to system defaults and, as it didn?t solve the problem, updated to Bios 2.29 to no avail. Finally I reformatted the SSD and installed Windows 8.1 directly form DVD (not the Lenovo DVDs). Then I installed the drivers with Lenovo System Update (I installed all critical and recommended updates except for the ?Intel Management Engine 10.0 Software ? 8.1 [64]?; this update once selected seems to install, asks to restart the PC, but once I manually restart it and run again the Lenovo System Update it says it isn?t installed...). I am using Bios, not UEFI.The problems with Windows 8.1 are as follow:1. Restart: the laptop shuts down, the LED on the Power Button go off, then on again (as if the computer was restarting), stay on for a couple of seconds and then go off. I have to press the power button manually for the laptop to restart.2. Power button doesn?t work when the laptop is on: I can press it or even hold it down for half a minute and nothing happens (the only way to force a shutdown is via the emergency-reset hole ? fortunately I didn?t have to do it though).3. Sleep mode by idle state: when the... Read more

I'm having a few issues with a t440s + 135w Ultra Dock. I've updated the dock's firmware and it works fine with my two external monitors. I have one problem that is driving me crazy. When I put the machine to sleep I can't wake it up with my mouse or keyboard. If I plug the mouse and keyboard directly into the machine they will wake it correctly but in the dock, it's no go. The other problem is once I actually bring the machine back from sleep it has to re-initialize all of the usb devices on the dock, like they've been completely unplugged. This second problem wastes a lot of time, right now I have the wireless usb mouse plugged directly into the machine so I can wake up with the mouse but my usb keyboard takes about 10 seconds to re-initialize, so I am stuck waiting at the lock screen for that long. I've turned on the USB when sleeping and the charge USB while sleeping in the BIOS - didn't help. Also made sure that all the devices could wake the machine up in the Device Manager. One other "issue" that is only mildy annoying is anytime Windows shows my a UAC prompt the screen goes black and takes about 5 seconds to render but only on the monitors attached to the dock. I'm running windows 7 pro 64 if that helps at all.

Answer:ThinkPad T440s + Ultra Dock problems

The UAC screen blanking issue is gone after installing all the optional updates under Windows Update. Only the USB issues persist.

I have recently purchased a 29" ultrawide LG monitor, with a 21:9 aspect ratio. When I plug it in, it recommends a 2560x1080 screen resolution. I was disappointed as the display settings on my thinkpad only go up to a 1960x1080 resolution.  Is there any way to achieve the correct resolution? I am currently connecting to the monitor using the dual DVI-D cable that came with the monitor.  I am wondering if there is a driver update that will support this, or a change in connection method? Thank you To update:  I am now connected via an HDMI/Display port cable instead of the DVI cable. This has not given me the option to increase my screen resolution in my display settings.

FYI - After much research and consultation I have fixed it. Turns out I needed to update my Intel HD Graphics Driver to the latest version which supports a 2560x1080 resolution. I also purchased the HDMI/Display port cable which didn't solve the problem but probably helps with quality.
