I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Got my Envy x360 running on Windows 10. I noticed that there's a sensor somewhere that detects the orientation of the laptop and somehow attempts to put it in tablet mode. I went ahead and disabled the auto-switch function, so my laptop actually stays in desktop mode when rotated. However, independent of whether the laptop is in tablet mode, it still disables both the touchpad and keyboard functions when rotated, since you would only use the touchscreen when the laptop is in tablet mode. I sometimes use the laptop lying sideways (rotated 90 degrees) and that does not necessarily mean I want to use it as a tablet, and I would not want my input devices to be automatically switched off against my will. I looked up a solution that involves disabling Synaptics SMBus Driver, which presumably disables the software connecting touchpad functionality to laptop orientation. This allows touchpad to work when rotated. However, I can't find the way to accomplish the same for the keyboard. I noticed that the keyboard and the sensors are connected via HID drivers but I don't understand what they are. TL;DR: rotating laptop disables touchpad and keyboard even when it's not in tablet mode. Disabling Synaptics SMBus Driver solves the touchpad portion. Don't know what to do for the keyboard portion. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi, I recently purchase a HP ENVY x360 - 15-u493cl laptop which came with Windows 10 preinstalled. I need to have it running Windows 7 for work related purposes. Taking help from other  members here I was able to successfully do a clean install of WIndows 7 on the laptop and have gotten most of the drivers. Currently I am having a problem with the laptop keyboard and touchpad. They work but act wierd. Whenver I type, a lot of the times, the cursor moves elswhere on the line or to a different line. Words/lines get selected in random. Wanted to know if anyone has seen this behavior before and have a resolution for it. I tried using a external keyboard and that works fine, so I know its got to be driver releated. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tonight my touchpad stopped working on my laptop, Envy x360 with Windows 10 (I don't know if it's 32 or 64 and I don't know how to check).  In looking around the internet it seemed as if I needed to do something in Device Manager but there are no choices for touchpad in my Device Manager.  I couldn't find the drivers for the touchpad relative to Windows 10 and didn't want to load the ones for Windows 8 and mess the machine up more I'm getting very frustrated.  I've turned it off and on a couple of times hoping that would do something and it's done nothing more than frustrate me even more.  HELP!

I purchased an Envy x360 laptop just about one year ago with windows 10. The key A gets stuck and wont stop. This issue has being on since I've owned it. Never seen anything like it in any computer I have ever owned. For instance, if I am playing a game at random the A key activates and just keeps on going and won't stop as if it were being held down. However, I have not touched the key. If key A were a left turn it would be going left of or in circles. It is radiculous. There many other issues with this laptop and this machine leaves much to be desired. Now this laptop Envy x360 has crashed with the blue screen of death and then is just a blan screen. I will never purchase an HP again. Piece of junk

Occasionally it will make a loud tapping noise with each press, that started after about10 minutes of working with it.  I've restarted it multiple times and tried everything GOOGLE has offered me.The keyboard works for my password at the start, nothing further. Its been restarted multiple times between attemps to fix the problem. (This PC is 5 months old). I'm new to this brand, it may be an easy fix. Any help is appreciated I may be wrong on the windows 32bit, but it is a 10 for sure!

Hello,I bought 1 month ago  the new envy 360 model (15-aq060nz) from the HP store swizerland. It comes with a QWERTZ keyboard - SWISS. This is the standard keyboard in switzerland. The problem is that the key containing the 3 characters: <>\ (next to the space bar) is wrongly mapped to <ctrl> key. This occurs when selecting either Swiss-french or Swiss-german logical keyboard (which is the normal setting used in switzerland).  I have contacted the HP support and my case was treated there. However, I have received this strange answer back:We confirm this is an issue with the particular model and we cannot provide any solution other than buying an external swiss keyboard and use it instead of the standard laptop keyboard if you want to use "<", ">" or "\" keys. You have to contact the commercial people to find out a commercial solution. If this is true, this means that the model I bougth can simply not be sold in Swizerland as anyone here will use the same original HW keyboard I have. Frankly, I simply cannot believe that it is a HW issue. The physical keys are not directly bound to an ASCII character. There is a translation between HW key and locale representation. I would say that the only thing needed is a BIOS update Am I totally wrong? Thanks a lot,José

I have an HP Envy x360 m6 laptop. Was working fine, did the creators update and now keyboard and touchpad don't work. External USB kb/m work fine. Things I have tried:
System restore - doesnt see any point
Restore to previous version - doesnt work
Un-install/re-install / update drivers
Turn off "Fast Startup"
WSUS offline installed all available Windows updates
Unchecked "Allow this device to turn PC on" in device manager power mgmt options for both devices.

It is a friend's laptop and backup/reload is not really an option as he has his student licenses of some software on there and we already contacted those companies and get the impression they will NOT re-activate it for him as his class is over.

Hello,  I just purchased this item today at Sam's Club, got it home and unboxed it. Turned it on and the keyboard is very unevenly backlit. The keys on the left side are nice and bright while the right hand side (not ncluding the numeric keypad which is also bright) is dark. Seems the etching of the letters on the right side is poor and doesn't let the backlight to pass through.   This model is apparently so new that it is not available through Chat yet.  Please direct me on how to contact customer support for this model or this PC will be going right back to the store.

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72002.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71883.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Purchased this laptop this summer. Upgraded RAM, solid state HD, etc.  Most expensive laptop i've yet purchased. And the touchpad will not work. Well, sometimes, for a day or so, it will be OK. But the factory-installed driver never did work--cursor jumped around all on its own. impossible to use. Missed clicks about 20-30% of the time. Uninstalled driver. Have tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers every other day or so since i purchased this. Yes, it is THAT BAD. Went from factory-installed to Synaptics driver to PS-2. Finally disabled windows 10 auto downloads (well, apparently that can't really be done bec MS controls my computer, not me--but i did change it to a metered connection, because every Windows download created new driver issues). From what i've read, it's clear that touchpad and audio drivers for my model laptop with Windows 10 are a systemic problem that neither HP nor MS nor Synaptics has any interest in addressing. Never buying an HP product again. Just went through the uninstall-re-install gig again tonight--now using the Synaptics generic driver--and still the cursor jumps around. will stay in one place for several seconds, but then it's gone. Laptop is basically unusable. Never, ever, in owning 7 different laptops over the last 30 years, have i ever had this problem before. Well, once before, but downloading a generic driver solved the issue immediately. HP--WHEN if ever are you going to fix this? No more HP p... Read more

I am having a problem with my Spectre x360. I noticed the casing around the bottom of the nearest edge (during normal usage) of the laptop, the area under the touchpad, was loose. I used some pressure to snap the casing back into position, but after doing so the touchpad has lost the ability to "click" down. The part of the touchpad that would normally click still has give to it when pressed down upon, but does not click down the way it used to, nor does it register a left click event when pressed down upon. It still registers taps, swipes, and multi-finger motion with no problem, so the computer remains funcional, but over the year I have had this computer I have grown used to clicking down on the touchpad instead of tapping it. If anybody has any insights into precise causes of this issue or any possible fixes, please let me know. Thank you. More information: possibly at the same time this problem began, I began to have the issue with a yellow spot forming around the upper left corner of the screen. I know this is a very common issue, but could it be related at all to my touchpad issue? If anybody has information related to fixing either of these issures, I would love to hear it. My laptop's warranty expired last week, and since then it seems the rate of problems I've been having has gone up exponentially.

Have Toshiba Satellite L355-S7905 with Vista. Several days ago, my keyboard stopped working. Then followed my touchpad. My power light is also not working.
Keyboard works in Bios and at Startup brand screen. Have uninstalled and updated drivers for keyboard and touchpad. Checked Bios, everything is fine in there.
I redid the computer back to out of box settings. Still didn't work. The computer won't shut down properly when I restart. It will go black like it has shut down but I have to press the power button to completely turn it off and then press it again to get it back up. I flashed Bios and check boot order, nothing.
Now that I redid my computer. My updates hang after updating Windows update agent. I have let it check for updates for 27 hours and nothing. I installed IE9. Disabled firewall. Nothing.
The other day power went out and drained my battery until it went off. When starting it back up, keyboard worked again, and so did restart. After several hours, keyboard stopped working. I have taken battery out, and power plug and pressed power button for 30 secs and then replaced battery and turned it on. Still nothing.
So keyboard is not working, touchpad not working, power light is off even though computer is on, volume dial not working, but did after battery drained from loss of power. It's not restarting properly and checking for updates just hangs for over 27 hours now. Many problems all at once, can anyone help me?

Answer:Keyboard, touchpad, restart and update problems

Forgot to mention the updates worked when I redid it months ago finally after deleting Norton and norton's registry keys. It finally found the updates after six hours. That was in early March last time I recovered to out of box setting.

Can i get update file for BIOS(traditional updating from boot CD, not OS!)

If the traditional BIOS update is not available on the download page the only way to get it is to contact nearest authorized service provider. They have all versions.

HP Envy 17, Win 8.1, On-board Keyboard.  Started when I tried logging into my laptop. The pass word I used had a "1" in it and I noticed that the "1" key was turning "Caps Lock" on. Changed my password to something much simpler and it was saying the password was wrong. Hooked up a USB Keyboard I have and was finally able to log in. Once in the system was making a noise like a key was being held down, but none were. Checked the keyboard setting to make sure Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, etc. were not enabled. At this point, the USB keyboard was having the same issue. Tried doing a system restore , but it failed. Finally I did a hard reboot (Power off, unplug ac adapter, remove battery for at least 1 min) After that the USB keyboard works fine and it's not making the sound like a key is being held down, but the on-board keyboard doesn't work at all. Made sure all drivers were up to date and also tried using it with the USB keyboard disconnected. The system recognizes that the keyboard is there, but none of the keys work. Is there any fixes for this or is it going to require me to send my laptop in for repairs?

Answer:HP Envy 17 Keyboard will not work

Hi, While this may well be a hardware issue, it's always worth trying the following. Unplug your USB Keyboard. Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand Keyboards, right click on Standard PS/2 Keyboard and select Uninstall. When this has completed, shut down the notebook by holding down the left Shift key as you click on Shutdown to temporarily prevent a hybrid boot.  When done, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 20 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to see if this will launch the Start-up Menu - if it does, select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Regards, DP-K

Hi, While this may be a hardware issue, it's always worth trying the following. Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to see if this will launch the Start-up Menu.  If it does, select f10 to enter the bios menu.

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

Answer:HP Spectre x360 vs HP Envy x360

Hi, You've got few questions about those products. Well, come to a store and yoy can see the differences. Better still, you can buty 2 machines and compare.  For build quality, the HP Spectre x360 is much better than the Envy x360 you can also find Pavilion x360 - we are talking about SPECS and BUILD here about plastics and metals about wood and gold. Regards.

Hi pieceofchum ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You may be able to fix this by minimizing the Palm Checker of the mouse settings .

The path would be :
Control Panel  > Mouse > Device Settings > Settings > Pointing > sensitivity > Palm Check > Lowest
Click on link for the visual guide.

Hope this helped you .

I already have the issue that when I put my E5570 to sleep and wake it up again that the keyboard and touchpad do not work. So I have disable the sleep options in the BIOS.
Now I run into different issues.Yesterday I booted the laptop and it hang on the DELL logo, After a while it stated that my EFI file would not be correct. Force reboot and it booted straight to Windows.
What's more annoying is the fact that the laptop boot, the DELL logo is shown and then the screens go's black, as if it's not connected. SO it looks like it hangs.BUT an external monitor through HDMI does work and show the windows logon. The keyboard and touchpad also do not work.External mouse and keyboard do work.
So pretty much I got a brick when I do not have external display/keyboard and mouse available.
When I reboot the laptop it works fine again.Am I the only one with this?Loads of issues with the laptop and wondering if I just have a faulty laptop...

Answer:Latitude E5570 - Black display, no resons to keyboard/touchpad - External display/keyboard/mouse do work

I have been spending a lot of hours in troubleshooting this week.
Diagnostics are 100% ok.
Reinstalled Windows 10 about 15 times.Installing drivers by hands, installing drives trhough the dell update management application. The issues keeps existing.
To sum the them up:- Cold boot (laptop is off) to Windows. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and they work again)- Resume from sleep. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and the work again)
After I got the laptop I installed 32Gb of RAM and an 512Gb Samsung 950Pro PCIE M.2 NVME drive. The drive should be support as Dell states on the product page and in the manual that PCIE with NVME is supported.
"Advanced features, like industry-leading M.2 SATA and M.2 PCIe/NVME solid state drives, provide data transfer speeds up to 4x faster over traditional hard drivers. "
In order to get the drive visible and running on PCIe I had to disable the sata controller in the BIOS.This way the drive is detected in Windows as an PCIe NVME capable drive.
Just to verify if the issues I went back to default with the delivered 256Gb M.2 sata drive and 8Gb RAM.To install Windows I had to turn the Sata controller back on.
Installed the drivers manually updated WIndows and tested. The issues do NOT occur.
Retested by installing the drivers using the Dell Update Application. The issues do NOT occur.
So I figured out that the SATA controller somehow is the guilty part for all the issues.I mean when enabled to ACHI or RAID the sleep and non... Read more

Hi, I'm using a HP EliteBook. And recently I've been using this docking station to insert a monitor and a different keyboard to it. I don?t know what the problem is but it is not a Windows prob.
it doesn?t work either in Bios.

Answer:Satellite A80-154 - Keyboard and Touchpad don't work

Hi

It looks like a hardware problem.
If the warranty is valid you could contact the ASP in your country for a hardware check.

If the warranty is not valid you could firstly check if the keyboard cable was connected to the motherboard properly.
If it?s connected properly then a keyboard malfunction is possible and it would be advisable to check if a replacement would help to solve this issue.

The compatible parts can be ordered also from the ASP in your country.

Hey everyone! I just got a new Edge 15 yesterday (this is the Best Buy exclusive one, and it's more expensive of the two options available), but I'm having an issue with it that's really preventing me from enjoying using the machine, and it's incredibly frustrating! Whenever I press keys on the keyboard and go to use the touchpad together with it, the touchpad freezes/delays for a number of seconds. It makes it incredibly difficult to play any kind of casual game or just browse the web. I've spent a long time looking up solutions, but none of them have helped at all. This Lenovo uses the Alps driver and while it has palm tracking, turning it down to minimum doesn't fix the problem, neither does going through windows 8.1 and choosing the option to have no delay in the mouse/touchpad settings there. I have no idea what to do to fix this problem, if anyone could help that'd be amazing!

Hello everyone. I have one big problem. I reinstalled my 8.1 pro (legal copy, disk been fully formatted) and it was okay for few hours. Next time im starting the laptop, my keyboard and touchpad doesnt work. I plugged USB mouse and keyboard and it works just fine. I went to device manager and besides Standart PS/2 keyboard and mouse icons there was orange triangle meaning that i have problem with drivers. I searched drivers online, but unsuccsessily.. After few hours of trying to fix it, my Standart PS/2 Keyboard turned into Unknown device and now im completely lost. Adding photo of device manager, i hope someone will help me here.

Answer:8.1 pro laptop keyboard and touchpad doesnt work

Since we do not know the make and model of your laptop.
Should try the laptop manufacturer's website to see if you can find the drivers for this. Does look like there missing.

What does it tell you when you right click the ones with yellow exclamation points ?

You can right click and select update driver software, either search automatically or browse your computer, select signed driver from the list is shows you.

Ever since I've upgraded my dad's laptop to Windows 10, the keyboard and touchpad stop working randomly, and would work only after I restart the computer. (logging off, switch user, standby mode doesn't resolve it.)
There is no pattern to it. Sometimes it would be ok for a few days, sometimes it would happen again after a few hours. I mostly do internet browsing on the laptop.

When the problem occurred:
- The keyboard AND the touchpad would both stop working at the same time.
- USB mouse still works. (I do not have an external keyboard to test)
- The lights on the keys themselves (eg caps lock, wifi) would still remain on if they're activated but cannot be toggled on/off as usual.
- The device manager still showed no problems with the mouse or keyboard.

Things I've tried:
- sfc /scannow
- disabled sticky keys
- used the generic drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- reinstalled the drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- updated to the latest synaptics driver
- made a new synaptics trackpad profile
- disabled touchpad when using the USB mouse

Laptop stats:
HP Pavillion dm1-4002AU

AMD Radeon HD 6230 Graphics

A couple days ago, my keyboard and touchpad mouse stopped working. I thought it was a hardware issue and ordered a replacement keyboard. As for the touchpad, I'm just using a wireless mouse. I replaced the keyboard a couple days later with the new one, and when I turned on my laptop, it works again, but when I put my laptop to sleep and wake it up, I hit enter, and then it stops working. I cannot type anything until I restart my computer. I figured it has to do something with the drivers, but I'm not too sure. Here is my computer specs:

Windows 7 home premium 64bit

I've gone to the HP website to get the drivers, but they do not support windows 7 for my computer.

Try http://www.laptoprepair101.com for a good desciption on how to disassemble a laptop.Be VERY careful when disassembling. They are fragile and the connections are short. The ribbon cable under the keyboard might be the problem although the USB connections are integrated on the motherboard and with your earlier problems might point to that as the cause.

Sometimes when I start up my computer, more often than not, when it brings me to my logon screen, I can't use the touchpad or the keyboard at all.  I have to physically touch the screen to let me put my pin in.  Still, neither work, so I end up shutting down and restarting, sometimes more than once, before the touchpad and keyboard start to work again.  I've had this problem for a couple of years now, have been in touch with support, and have also uninstalled and reinstalled my keyboard.  My warranty just expired of course.  I'm ready to throw this computer out of a window.

I own a sattelite C870-13E computer since august.

Yesterday for no apparent reason, my touchpad stopped working. (no, I didn't turn it off)
Not really bothered by it, i kept working on my computer for several hours.
It then occurred to me it might be a little bug, so I decided to restart my computer.

When it turned back on, not only my touchpad didn't work, now nothing on my keyboard responded, not a single key. I updated drivers, bios, ran a virus scan, rolled back my computer to a few days earlier, nothing helped.

The strange thing is that the keyboard still responds when i hold the 0, F1 or F8 keys, as well as enter and arrow keys to get in the menus before windows starts up.

Using those, i used the toshiba recovery to set the computer back to factory settings.
Despite all that, keyboard and touchpad are still out.
I really don't understand, since it works during startup it can't be actual materialistic damage!

Now i'm getting frustrated cause i have no more solutions and typing with on-screen keyboard is really slow! =p

Any help?

Answer:Keyboard and touchpad don't work on Satellite C870-13E

Hi

I think it?s a hardware malfunction because you already tried the system recovery and the keyboard does not work even if using factory settings.

But it would be interesting to know if the USB external keyboard would functions. Can you test this? In my opinion if the external keyboard would works properly, then this would mean that your internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.
I?m wondering if the touchpad fault is related to the internal keyboard malfunction.

However, I think the warranty should be still valid if you purchased this unit in August. So get in contact with service and the guys should fix it free of charge!

I have problem with keyboard and touchpad. Laptop is Satellite A300-1G5

I have Vista home premium and when I power computer on, I must put password in user box then my keyboard and touchpad don't work.

In Bios my keyboard working but when Vista starts it does not.

How I solve this problem?

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5: Keyboard and touchpad do not work

Hi

First of all please check the device status in the device manager.
Please check if the keyboard and touchpad are listed correctly without any yellow exclamation marks.

But you should try to reinstall the drivers again even though the keyboard and the touchpad were recognized properly.
In this case I would recommend removing the keyboard and the touchpad from the device manager and then you should reboot the notebook once again.

After Vista has rebooted the both devices should be recognized again and should work.

Please check this!

Answer:Internal keyboard and touchpad dont work!

hey machalik, welcome to the forums.it is strange that the internal keyboard and touchpad works at the BIOS area but not at the login screen.could you check and see if your BIOS is at version 1.22/1.09 . if it isn't, head over to http://support.lenovo.comif it is at that version, reflash your bios and see if that helps.

hi ! when i press a letter on the keyboard the touchpad stops working. i tried with palmcheck option but the problem remains. i have ELAN software and everything seems updated (according to windows update and lenovo softwares). in touchpad settings i found the option about the mouse block during digitation, but it doesn'twork. can someone help me?

Answer:z 50 75 pressing keyboard touchpad doesn't work

I have the same problem with a Y50-70 and ELAN Touchpad/driver too. It has been sold to me as a gaming Laptop and now one major functionality you need for gaming doesn't work - what a mess. I spend hours in the Internet reading hundreds of articles from people with the same issue.1. Solution: Disable the Palmcheck function but unfortunately the ELAN SW doesn' provide this option.2. Solution: Change the Touchpad sensibility (some say max, some min) - neither works with the ELAN driver.3. Solution: Go into the Registry (regedit) and change parameter (DisableWhenType_Enable and DisableWhenType_DelayTime_Move in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPad\), to 0 with Regedit. Didn't work for me too. 4. Solution: Uninstall the ELAN driver qnd let Windows install a generic PS2 one during re-boot. This finally did it for me, however you are losing all the additional functionality of your Touchpad and can onlwy move the cursor plus right/left click. No zoom; no scroll, no multiple finger functionality anymore. So be it, I bought the Laptop for Gaming. I'm pretty disappointed about this but hope there will be better driver coming out soon.

Answer:Keyboard and Touchpad wont work on Satellite L

Hi

There are no many options which could solve this problem.
It can be a hardware problem or software related issue.

Can you use the internal keyboard within the BIOS?
Check this.
If this would not be possible, I assume the hardware is faulty.

Additionally I recommend testing the keyboard and touchpad using the factory settings.
Recover the notebook and check if the keyboard would functions?. Otherwise you will need an helps from an notebook technician in order to replace the keyboard and touchpad

I have a recently-purchased Lenovo 100s Ideapad 11iby Windows10.  After about a month of struggling to get the WiFi to work and get all of the W10 updates installed, it froze.  I did the Novo button complete reset to start over. when restarted, the keyboard and trackpad do not work.  I can't complete the install process because I can't type anything in. An external mouse works, and I can type using the on-screen keyboard, but that's all. now what?

Answer:100s Ideapad W10 keyboard and touchpad don't work

i have the same problem.  have you been able to resolve this?

Hello, The left button on my Synaptics Touchpad doesn't work when I'm pressing a key on the keyboard. Initially, I thought it was a PalmCheck problem, but that feature was already disabled. The right click works fine and so does the touchpad itself. The only problem is the left button. I tried reinstalling an updated driver, but that didn't fix the problem. I tried the generic Synaptics driver and both the HP Windows 8 and 8.1 versions. They all worked fine for all touchpad functions except for the left button which still doesn't work when I'm pressing a keyboard key. I tried using a wireless mouse and the left click worked fine so the problem is only with the touchpad.

Answer:Left touchpad button doesn't work when the keyboard is in us...

Same thing for me too, and I really want it fixed. I'm using an HP Pavillion Windows 8.1 Laptop, and using the same TouchPad as you. Kudos for you!

Install recovery image again and check if the situation is the same. If the problem persists contact your local dealer, explain the situation and ask for exchange.

Hi,

My daughter's Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 has developed a couple of faults.

Firstly, the keyboard displays random characters such as a stuck key would. eg, if in Google or Wordpad the system will at random type a single character over and over again even when no key is pressed. Occasionally it will also open windows or programs as if the 'enter' key has been pressed, or cycle through desktop icons.

Secondly, the touchpad is non-responsive and cursor operation isn't possible from the touchpad or buttons. I don't know if the two are related.

She assures me she hasn't spilled anything on the laptop, so any help would be appreciated to rectify these faults.

Thanks,
Brian

Answer:Satellite A100 - Keyboard and Touchpad don't work properly

Hi

Can you notice the same issue with external input devices?

If not it?s time for an authorized service provider. I think the keyboard and touchpad must be replaced and the technicians can help you.

On the Toshiba website you can find a list of authorized service provider.

Good luck! :)

I have HP Pavilion DM1 4003AU notebook. Since last 2-3 weeks the notebook gets excessive heat and due to this reason or any other reason the keyboard and touchpad stops working. When I plug the USB mouse then the mouse works. Another problem is the bluetooth hardware is not found while installing the bluetooth driver.
Due to above reason I changed the operating system two times and install all the HP recommended drivers and softwares but still the problem is same.
So please tell me the suitable way to resolve these problems as soon as possible.

Thank You

Hi everyone.

I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I'm having with my Satellite 5200-802. The Keyboard will not work evn though it shows in device manager and report it as working fine. I have updated the BIOS and tried a lot of other basic stuff so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It may be worth mentioning that I also cannot get my touchpad driver to register.

Many thanks.

Answer:Satellite 5200-802: Keyboard and touchpad dont work

Hi

Do you get an error message or do you have any bed signs on the screen?
Can you use the keyboard to access the BIOS?
If yes then the keyboard was recognized and works!

If you cannot use the keyboard running OS then I would recommend to delete the keyboard device from the device manager and to restart the notebook.
After new OS reboot the keyboard should be recognized again.

But I think that you will be not able to access the BIOS.
Due to the fact that the touchpad does not work too, I presume the hardware is faulty or there is no connection to the motherboard. Maybe a lose cable?

Maybe you should check this. But note; if you have no experience contact the notebook technicians. Bye

Hi,

this laptop Satellite L300D is not even a year old and it is giving me a heck of a lot of issues.

About 3 times a week the touchpad will just stop working (after going around crazy & clicking stuff on its own)
When I plug in a mouse it works.

Today the keyboard gave up, after a re-boot it will allow me to type in my password but after that its dead.

Please help.

Answer:Satellite L300D touchpad and keyboard wont work at all

Did you install mouse drivers for your external mouse? Sometimes they can cause problems with the internal touchpad.

Otherwise you should send the laptop to an Authorized Service Partner to get it repaired under warranty.

When I open up my computer and try to login, both the keyboard and touchpad no longer works.  The only thing I can do is touch the screen and hope the on-screen keyboard pops up.  but I can't use the actual physical keyboard or touchpad.  They seem disabled. I don't even see the mouse pointer arrow or icon on the login screen at all  when I try to move my hand around the touchpad now it takes me a couple tries to login abd only after I  login, the keyboard & touchpad work again Im using HP Spectre x360. I think this started happening after the last major auto update  (Also now the computer doesn't go to sleep when I close the lid,  and after a while the computer gave an alert message that the battery was low since it never went to sleep.  After this last update, the low battery alert message is now pink instead of blue )

Hi

I assume that you checked if the tablet has been connected properly to the keyboard docking.

Did you try to disconnect and connect the docking again?
Note: there is a release latch on the left which you have to move and hold in order to remove the tablet.

Maybe there is some connection problem.

I have a G550 which works fine. I bought a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse and they work fine too. Recently I had to take laptop on the road and I did not want to take the large wireless KB. But if I remove the little wireless USB thing, the keyboard and the touchpad on the laptop DO NOT WORK. How do I fix this problem? Many thanks! PS: This laptop is a bargain! I bought it new from Office Depot last year during a turn-in-your-old-laptop promotion and paid approx. 400 dollars for it. I also upgraded to Windows Professional through a college deal. I am extremely happy with this machine and can't believe I got it for such a low price.

Answer:G550 keyboard and touchpad do not work when I remove wireless KB and mouse

hey johannfu, when you have the wireless keyboard connected, was the keyboard and touchpad working on the G550 ?if not and only the Microsoft Wireless keyboard was working, then it is a high possibility that the drivers that came from the wireless keyboard overwritten the drivers for your G550 keyboard and touchpad.

I have got a Tecra A7 with XP. Every once and a while when waking up from Standby or Hibernation, the Keyboard and Touchpad dont work at all. I can still log on using fingerprint recognition. Also an external USB mouse then works.

I have to Log Off and Re-Log-On using the external mouse to make the keyboard and touchpad work again. Very inconvenient, especially when you re in a hurry.... hehe

Anyone else experiencing a similar problem?? Any solutions??

Thanks for any help guys!!!

Cheers,

Did you install drivers for your external keyboard or mouse? For example Logitech drivers?

Try uninstalling those 3rd party drivers, they may be conflicting with the Toshiba drivers.

The touchpad on the keyboard does not work - and the keyboard itself intermittently doesn't work.  I have an external mouse and keyboard attached.  Have disconnected them, updated the driver, updated bios, uninstalled and reinstalled driver, everything I have found in other posts and it still will not work.  When I updated the bios, Touchpad now shows up in devices, but the driver is for PS/2 Compatible Mouse.  Running Windows 10 Pro.  Any help?  Thanks in advance!

Got a nasty surprise today - unlike the other major manufacturers, who offer one year free tech support, Lenovo does not. $179 for a contract or $89 to cover a single incident. Thanks, guys. :-/ Here's my problem. G780, bought last October. Upgraded from Win7 Home Premium to Win8 Pro.A few days ago, the built-in keyboard stopped working. It works in the BIOS, but when you boot into Windows, Windows doesn't recognize it. There is a PS/2 keyboard driver and a HID Keyboard Device that show up in the Win8 Device Manager. I'm assuming those are the drivers for the built-in keyboard. If I plug in a USB keyboard, it shows up in the Device Manager as an additional HID Keyboard Device. Through trial and error, I discovered that the keyboard still works fine when the Elan touchpad driver is not installed. The problem with THAT: I can't disable the touchpad unless the driver is installed, and if the touchpad isn't disabled, it'll screw me up because I accidentally brush my hand up against the touchpad while typing. I've also noticed that sometimes, the touchpad icon in the system tray shows up with a CAUTION icon overlaid on top of it (you know, the little yellow triangle with the exclamation point). I can't figure out why, and I can't figure out what changed on my computer that caused the keyboard to stop working properly. I've tried uninstalling the Elan touchpad driver, downloading the latest driver from the G780 support web page, and reinstalling it. No... Read more

Answer:G780 keyboard doesn't work, but ONLY when Elan Touchpad driver is installed.

hi stevesobol,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Are you also able to type your password on the login screen but after that the keyboard gets disabled? If this is the case, check this article as it's similar to the keyboard issue.

As for the Keyboard not working when the ELAN touchpad driver is not installed, this is surprising as I've never heard this issue happen before. Are you not able to disabled the touchpad via Fn+F6 even if the driver is not installed?

Best regards,
neokenchi

I have a T420S running Windows 10. If I restart the computer while docked, the USB keyboard (Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 v1.0) does not work until I unplug and replug it. If I do a cold start while docked, I don't have this issue. Anyone else experiencing this or have a solution?

I have several users (closing in on a dozen now) that when they dock their laptops their external keyboard and mouse do not work until they reboot.  This problem has just started in the last week or two.    On at least one of the machines I have replaced the dock, replaced both the keyboard and the mouse and I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest version.  Right now the problem appears to be systemic, yet I can't seem to track down the cause.  I reiterate that all of these users started having this problem all at the same time.  I am not ruling out a Microsoft update but at this point I am scratching my head. Has anyone else seen this?

Answer:Mutiple T60s that, after being docked, the external keyboard and mouse do not work until a restart.

I have had other USB peripheral components stop responding due to a less-than-optimal USB power management setting after a microsoft/manufacturer update.  Might want to check that out.

My lenovo laptop has a terrible beep beep sound when i start the laptop. And when i click any icon on the destop it  opens the recycle bin (its on the top left corner) and when i refresh the destop always the recycle bin is highlighted. When i type something on the internet to search or a message the line ( which blinks when we type) always goes back. So I cannot even type anything correctly. I can't move the scroll down when i am on the internet the scroll goes up again. i need help.

Answer:Lenovo G570 beeps constantly on start up - keyboard and touchpad don't work properly

Shanuka,
Welcome to the forum!

Would you turn off the system and restart and see if you can go into BIOS?   If you get the constant beep on startup and are unable to press F2 (I believe it is F2) to enter BIOS, then it sounds like you may have a stuck key on the keyboard, or the cable for the trackpad or keyboard is not fully connected to the systemboard, OR the internal cables are pinched.   If this is the case, then I think you probably need to contact Lenovo service for help as it is likely a hardware issue.

If you are able to go into BIOS, are you able to move around in there?  You could try reloading BIOS defaults and reboot.  If everything works in BIOS and the problem is only in Windows, then it could be a driver / setting (less likely), but you could try to open mouse in the control panel and check settings.

But just based on the symptoms, it really sounds like either the touchpad or keyboard has a stuck key or is acting as if one is stuck due to the bad cable connection or a short.

Mark

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

I'm a cartoonist and bought the HP Envy x360 in Septmeber or so of 2016. I was at Best Buy and only purchased it because both Best Buy and HP marketed the laptop as good for drawing. Then I find out I need to buy a pen. I just got the HP Active Stylus for Christmas, the guys at Best Buy said it's compatible and so does the HP site here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05166879 It's not working. There aren't many directions. I read that the first time you use it, a set up screen should pop up, but it isn't. I don't know if it's just me, if I'm not using it correctly, or if it's just not compatible with my computer. If it isn't, what should I get instead?
