Ideacentre A350 freezing/crashing problem

Question: Ideacentre A350 freezing/crashing problem

I have an A350 IdeaCentre Lenovo and it keeps freezing/crashing. Sometimes won't even load up from being turned on. Wondering if it's hardware or software or virus related?

Preferred Solution: Ideacentre A350 freezing/crashing problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Howdy!

I'v owned my laptop for about 2 months now, and few days ago it started freezing spontaniously. there seems to be no 1 reason for this.

It normally starts with one application not responding (internet explorer, microsoft word) and then just freezes completly so I have to reset it.

Any suggestions please?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Re: Satellite A350-20Q - started freezing completly

It?s really hard to say what the reason is for this.
Are you running the factory settings? I mean have you installed your own Windows version or is the preinstalled Toshiba image on the notebook?

It could be a software or hardware issue and if you have the factory settings I would recommend checking the HDD and RAM. Therefore you can use Memtest86 and Drive Fitness Test. Use Google to find both programs, they are freeware and easy to use. Just download a CD-image, burn it on a disk and start from it.
So you can determine what the problem is.

In worst case you must go to an authorized service provider to check your notebook.
I doubt that it?s an overheat issue. The fan should work properly because the notebook is only 2 months old? Can you hear the fan?

The problem started a few months ago and has been getting more and more frequent. I will be using the computer and then all of a sudden a blue box appears with a black border.

The message is similar to this "http://s2.hubimg.com/u/320561_f520.jpg" it mentions something about driver_inql being less or equal and the computer being shut down to prevent damage.

The computer then reboots and everything runs fine again, until the next crash. When i log back on after a crash i get a message about Windows recovering from an unexpected shut down and it offers me the chance to check for a solution.

Whenever i do check for a solution a window appears scanning for something online and then it disappears. I can click show problem details and this is what it says:

Answer:Satellite A350 randomly crashing with "Blue Screen of Death"

As mentioned in other threads; BSOD can be caused by software problem or hardware problem.

Did you notice a higher temperature?
The higher temperature can affect the notebook functionality. It could affect the RAM which would cause the BSOD.
If the temperature is too high, the notebook shuts down automatically to prevent hardware from damage.

Why is temperature too high? Maybe the cooling fans are clogged by dust and debris?
Remove this using compressed air spray? maybe it helps?

I have an HP Pavilion 500-123a PC running Windows 10 which has been freezing and crashing frequently.

I have attempted several diagnostic and fix options about which I have posted to this forum before, though the difficulty thus far is unresolved.

In particular sfc/scannow does not complete; halts at 56% with the message ?Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation?.

I also attempted a Repair Install using the Media Creation Tool iso file. This was initiated in the administrator account (PC has two accounts) and got to 97% when it failed with the error message ?We couldn?t install Windows 10?, ?The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during PRE_OOBE operation,? error code 0x8007002C-0x4001E.

The diagnostic software PC Health Advisor only came up with 2 registry issues, without specifying further.

The Dism tool was OK however reporting ?The component store is repairable. The operation completed successfully.?

Given that the PC is still freezing/crashing at this stage I am perplexed regarding how to arrive at a diagnosis and fix and, again, if anyone has encountered problems of this kind or has any insights into possible attempts at a remedy this would be much appreciated.

So I recently installed a new graphics card, and its been working but it was freezing my computer regularly because of the ati driver. So uninstalled it and reinstalled it again, but I still have the problem...my computer just randomly freezes, and then pretty much shuts down.
here is latest Event Viewer log

Today, both of my internet browsers keep freezing and crashing (Firefox 2.0.0.4 and Explorer v.6) After about 5 minutes or so, Firefox will freeze and I get the standard "Progran Not Responding" message. This happened several times to the point of frustration, so I resorted to IE. The same thing happened. I ran anti-virus (Norton Corporate) and my anti-spyware. They found nothing. I cleared my browser cache, cookies, temp. internet files, history, etc. I defragged my computer and uninstalled, then re-installed Firefox. I came to this site and installed SpyBlaster, all to no avail. I then went thru the whole "SEnd Error Report?" snafu, which tied up and eventually froze my computer. I must've unplugged it and re-started it 20 times today!Firefox keeps crashing on me even after re-installation, so I'm using Explorer, which is running ok...for now. What the heck is going on?!?

Hey guys, my computer keeps crashing (there is not reboot, it just freezes); here's what I've done to try and troubleshoot it:

- Taken ALL components out of expansion slots.
- Tried another (more powerful) PSU.
- Disconnected Secondary IDE and tried to install OS onto a fresh drive (Windows ME); still crashes with only that drive connected.
- Removed both RAM chips, and tried each of the four I have individually. Two of these are from other computers so the chance of them ALL being faulty is very very small. Also ran a memory tester (memtest86) - all clear.
- Re-fitted the CPU and heatsink.
- I've also tried resetting the BIOS (popping the battery out and back in again).

However, when I run another memory tester (memtest by Alexander Grigoriev) the PC crashes after the first test and totally freezes. I'm quite sure there's nothing wrong with my memory slots.

It was running fine for months with its current configuration, so something has changed...I'm not sure what.

I'd really appreciate any info guys.

Thanks,

John

Alright about a month ago, my computer started acting very weird. I have a system password at bootup, and I turned on the computer and right after i entered my system password in, it would "shutdown". I say shutdown in quotes because the computer is still running, but the screen says "sleep mode, move mouse or press any button..." but will not start up. I had to hold the power button to turn off computer and restart the computer to get it up again.

At first, it only took one shutdown to get the computer working fine, but eventually it has taken more and more times for the computer to continuously shutdown to start working. Now it shuts down about 5 times right after i enter the password to the system, about 2 times after i enter my windows password, and randomly afterwards.

Heres some facts that might help
>i found a trojan with mcafee a few days before the trouble began, deleted it(unfortunately do not remember what)
>computer freezes randomly when i play world of warcraft
>virusscans causes computer to "shutdown" about halfway through(mcafee, housecall)
>i have limewire
>heres a picture of my taskmanager with programs up and running atm

Answer:Computer crashing/freezing, unknown problem..please help

Can anyone help at all? I am not sure whether this is a hardware or virus problem...

Hello guys,

I have owned Battlefield 2 for some time, and played it on my old rig, which wasnt very powerful, um Pentium III I think it was. It was slow, and the graphics werent great, along with plenty of lag. However I could still play matches. Anyway recently I decided to upgrade my computer, with the following spec:

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @3.00GHz
Windows XP Home Edition 32-bit SP3
2x Corsair 2GB DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory CL5 1.8V

Huntkey 500W Balance Power PSU - 12cm Fan with 4x SATA 2x PCI-E

Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATAII 7200RPM 16MB Cache - OEM Caviar Blue
LiteOn IHAS324 24x DVD?RW Dual Layer & RAM SATA Black
Samsung SP0802N/ SCSI Disk Device
ST316021 2A SCSI Disk Device

These parts are all brand new save the hard discs and operating system disc.

I built this machine myself, in order to play relatively old games like Battlefield 2, Battlefield Vietnam and Battlefield 1942, and 2142 in the near future. When I installed all of these, and played Battlefield 2 for the first time, I managed to load a single player game, and select my kit, but after 10-30 seconds of gameplay, the graphics started messing up, and become what I assume to be "graphic artifacts". The colours go crazy, and then the game freezes, sound loops after 5 more seconds, and then the screen goes half b... Read more

I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my PC, barely two days old, and would appreciate any help you guys can give me. I haven't had much sleep this week, I've been spending so much time trying to figure this one out.

PC Stats:
Case: CoolerMaster RC-690
Hard Disk: Samsung HD753LJ (750GB)
RAM: 2x2GB SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L Intel P35
GPU: ATI Radeon HD4850
CPU: Intel E8400 Dual Core Processor @3.0GHz
Heatsink: Xigmatek Rifle 120mm
PSU: Earth Watts 500watt
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium w/ SP1 (64-bit version)

Problem Description:
I installed Vista yesterday afternoon, and promptly installed all of the updates and drivers. After installing a few programs and games, I found them sometimes freezing and crashing. The programs would suddenly stop responding.

A bit later, I was told of a new program that had stopped responding--and it was explorer.exe. Not a good sign.

After leaving my PC for a while, I came back to see that it had "unexpectedly shut down." This happened a few more times. I tweaked several settings, to no effect.

Today, I've experienced several dreaded BSoDs--blue error screens. For the most part, the computer reboots so quickly that I don't have much time to read what they say. In the last one, I was able to make out, "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL."

I have attached the dump file from that BSoD.

Researching the various problems I encountered over th... Read more

Lately, I have been experiencing A LOT of problems with my computer. Programs frequently crash or run sluggishly. At times, my taskbar will crash and become frozen.

I have also noticed that I have a lot of process running (I am usually clocking in at somewhere around 45 processes). I have recently installed iTunes, which I can see has about 2 or 3 processes running at a time. I have also have recently run winUpdate and got some new files from that, but I don't know if that also has things running in the background.

I have ran CleanUp, AdAware, Spybot, and I have a Microsoft AntiSpyware constantly running in the background, so I don't think adware or spyware is the problem.

This is the only forum that I know of that can offer help for these kind of things, and you have proven to be very helpful in the past. If this is in the wrong place, I apologize.

Answer:Programs and computer constantly freezing or crashing... is spyware the problem?

One thing that could be causing your problems is the fact that you have both Norton And AVG running. You should never run two antiviruses at the same time. They conflict with each other and cause all sorts of problems as well as decrease your protection. You need to pick one and get rid of the other.

Also you need to disable some of those unnecessary apps you have running at startup. They are draining your computers resources.

Hello Vin111Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.I would recommend that you attempt a factory reset, this would rule out the software issue with the unit.

Note: Please back up all your data as running this reset will delete any data on your machine1. Turn the machine off and press the recovery button which is located usually next to the power button. If you have a desktop machine you will need to power the machine back on and keep tapping the F2 key. 2. Use the arrow keys and press enter on system recovery. ( Desktop users can skip this) 3. Select ?restore from the initial backup? and then ?Next?. 4. Click ?start? and accept the warning messages. Length of time can vary depending on the speed of the machine.

My IdeaCentre has started to freeze up last month (June 2016). It usually happens in the evening to night time hours, but not during the daytime. A Ctrl-Alt-Del has no effect either, scans show not viruses, sytem issues are not detected either. Sometimes you have to hold the power button down for more than a few seconds to turn the system off to reboot. After rebooting the system is usually fine except for the rare instances where the system freezes up again after an hour. This is my first AIO and have usually had laptops that have never had this issue before. The system was bought in April of 2016 and was made in February of 2016.  Is this a common issue? What is the resolve?

I have been using my ideacentre AIO 700 27ISH model F0BD002WSC for about six months and in this period of time it has been randomly but consistantly (once a week or more) freezing. And when it freezes it also makes a trrr sound wihich is as loud as the volume that was set before the computer crashes. This happens randomly and it's almost never a highly stressful situation for the CPU to handle, like when i'm browsing the news or on youtube and it just crashes for no apparent reason. I would really like to fix this because it is driving me crazy. Thanks, Alan

My IdeaCentre K430 started intermittently freezing after I installed Windows 10, and I can't seem to find any information on how to stop this from happening. Any ideas?

Answer:IdeaCentre K430 Intermittently Freezing

Hi TexasTigress ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try to run the machine on safe mode and see if freezing would still happen.

There is no BIOS / driver update for Windows 10 from the support site since this model is not supported /tested to run for Win 10 and that some components would not work .

Saying this , do not limit users to install or use the pc but set expectation that there may be unsupported issue that may come up due to incompatibilities and driver device needed by some parts.

Try running diagnostics to isolate if there is any hardware issue that may affect the performance issue.
Check back on device manager for unknown drivers depicted by yellow marks , if drivers from support site fails to fix it then checking from device manufacturer's driver can be used.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

I bought an Ideacentre AIO 700-22ISH this past Saturday and started to get it set up yesterday.  During the Windows 10 setup, the computer froze 2-3 times and had to be shut down, and now that I'm getting the actual computer set up with old files, etc. it has frozen another 3 times including twice within 10 minutes of each other.  The only common thread between the freezes is that the computer was doing something on the internet (setting up windows activation, browsing Chrome, etc.). Is this a known problem with a solution?

Hi there.  New user, new owner of a brand new Lenovo Ideacentre. My drivers are up to date, anti-virus detects no issues, Lenovo hardware scan detects no issues. The unit has been freezing though.  It just stops working and needs to be restarted by holding down the power button.  I installed 'Who Crashed' to see if that could tell me what's up but it doesn't detect any memory dumps at all and last night it crashed with no programmes open so I don't think any one piece of software is doing it.  It's fresh out of the box as of two days ago. So, is the unit broken or do you forum poppets have a lovely solution for me? ta!

I think I have tried everything. When I upgraded to Windows 8 the Lenovo wireless keyboard wouldn't work.  I gave up on that and just used a Logitech keyboard without problems. Next issue (main issue), it freezes constantly.  Sometimes before you get the OS booted, sometimes just sitting there, without any app going, without anything running, it's rendering the computer useless. This PC is only 2 years old, and is more than capable to handle Win 8.  I've clean installed 3 times, updated all the drivers from Lenovo's site (all the Win 7 64bit drivers) because there aren't any Win 8 drivers.  Turned "dynamictic" off, turned on Hyper V.  Disabled "superfetch".  If I can't figure this out, I'm selling my Lenovo and getting something that can run Win 8.  I have two Surface tablets and I like the new ecosystem.. This is rediculous, it's not like my PC is that old and there Windows 8 didn't jump out of nowhere, it's been in beta over a year.

Solved!

Hello, i have upgraded my Ideacentre A310 to Windows 8 and it is contantly freezing, I have installed the Windows 8 drivers for the sound and video card from the manufacturer. Anyone got any ideas? CheersTerry

Answer:Ideacentre A310 Windows 8 Freezing

hi tsandford,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If the IdeaCentre A310 freezes up after you upgraded to Windows 8, try to do the following:

1. Boot into Safe Mode with Networking - if the PC doesn't freezes up, there's probably an applilcation on the background that's causing the unit to freeze up on normal mode. To isolate this, you need to perform a clean boot.

2. If the PC still freezes up even on Safe Mode with Networking, there's probably a problem with the HDD. To verify this, try to use UltimateBootCD (www.ultimatebootcd.com) for the diagnostics. Details below:

a. Download the the UBCD ISO (www.ultimatebootcd.com)
b. Burn the ISO using imgburn
c. Insert the CD that you just created into the defective computer and reboot
d. Upon reboot, continuously press F12 and boot from the ODD/CD-DVD

To burn the diagnostic softwre on a flashdrive, follow this guide

Note:
If you find any errors, you will need to change the HDD. If don't have a recovery or restore disc, you can obtain one by contacting the Lenovo Technical Suport. Support phone list here.

3. Clean install Windows 8 into the machine (refer to this guide)

Hope this helps

Hi all, I bought an ideacentre AIO 700 - S4ISH on Saturday. In 3 days it has probably frozen at least 10 times - when the P.C is doing very little. The only way to recover is to Switch off and back on again - which i cannot suffer with for much longer. My excitement for getting a new PC has turned into total disappointment in 3 days !!. I have run the Lenovo scan and all hardware comes back 100%. Is there a solution to this, or shall i simply return it to the retailer as faulty/not fit for purpose ??

Answer:Ideacentre AIO 700 - 24ISH Touchscreen Freezing is...

I feel your pain.  I had to replace my initial one over the counter at Best Buy back in December.  Second one is working OK. May I suggest you check all your drivers and make sure they are the newest.  If that doesn't fix your problem, try a second unit.

I have a Microsoft 10 Lenovo PC, but within the first 2-3 months after I bought it, it has constantly crashed. I know it is not overheating when I play intensive games such as The Division where my GPU is at its normal 80c, nor virus since I have done scans. It is also not a hardware malfunction. I have wiped my PC 1-2 times and it still crashes. I eventually sent the PC to the Lenovo repair center in Kentucky, but when they sent it back they said it was "Fixed" and that what they did was update the drivers. After the first crash/freeze, the next few crashes just happen within 1-2 minutes of startup.

I just purchased the ideacentre AIO 510-23ISH and have had immediate problems with freezing. I've had a lenovo tech check it out twice. It seems to freeze when not in use occasionally. I'm kinda concerned about this turbo boost option. Anyone else have issues with this machine?

I stil use very old Toshiba A350D. Notebook works fine with Office, internet browsing and other light task.
But last days i notice a problem with wifi connection. Well, the card constantly switches off automatically. I use Intel Wifi ProSET tool and Windows 7 system tools.
Windows 7 indicator shown no avilable connections and ProSET indicator shown wifi disabled and ask for turn on wifi with hardware switcher, when hardware switcher (mechanical slider with LED on front) is in the 'on' position and LED flashes.

When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.

Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.

Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

I have lost about 30mm of display on either side of my screen and audio service is not running- can anyone help??

Answer:Satellite A350 upgrade to Windows 7- ATI Catalyst problem

Hi

The ATI catalyst is an part of the display driver.
You can find the display driver on the *Toshiba European driver* page.
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/

I recommend reinstalling the display driver and all other Win 7 drivers again?

I have had persistent problems recently with my computer freezing/crashing, and I just wanted to air this issue for possible solutions should anyone recognise the problem. This is an HP Pavilion, model 500-123a, running Windows 10 (recently upgraded from Windows 8). What's been happening is that it's been stalling out, both in Word (without broadband on) and on the Web (eg Yahoo, Yahoo Mail). In Word the cursor freezes and will not move, the screen goes opaque white, the blue circle whirls, can't do anything with it, can't shut down, and I have to unplug it and reboot. This can happen 3 or 4 times a day. In Yahoo, similarly, the screen freezes, the cursor won't move at all, and have to unplug. I used software, PC Health Advisor, to try to diagnose the problem, and it hasn't signalled up anything specifically. From checks I've done, it doesn't look like fragmentation, nor RAM (8GB), nor registry issues, nor a monitor problem. I am quite flummoxed at this stage.

So, just wondered if anyone's run into anything like this, any notion what it might be. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Question: Freezing/crashing

I unistalled a graphics program as one of the plug-ins stopped working, came to install it again and the computer keeps frezing, even the task manager freezes sometimes, scans for viruses-adware/spyware,nothing.
The internet works fine.

Answer:Freezing/crashing

When you install the program, disconnect from the internet and close your firewall, antivirus, antispyware programs and any other program that may be running at the time. Conflicts with running programs can cause freeze-ups.

If the install still freezes, there may be leftover registry entries from the uninstall of the program.

You may want to use a registry cleaner such as regseeker HERE to remove any leftover entries.

Be careful using regseeker. Do not delete anything it finds unless you are sure it is safe to do so. Be sure 'Backup' is checked at the bottom of regseeker before you delete. Any registry entries pertaining to the uninstalled program should be safe to delete.

After cleaning the registry of leftovers try installing the program.

Basically my PC started doing this a couple months back. Broke it down into parts to easily refer to.
Part 1. Usually around the Win login screen, the PC would freeze completely. So I would restart, sometimes I would need to restart it a couple more times just to get the display up and it to boot.
Part 2. The next time, it will normally be within 5 mins of logging in where it will repeat Pt 1 again. When I finally get going again, it will most likely do it again within 15-20 mins of using my PC.
Part 3. Also, also well as completely freezing, it will do the occasional blue screen and also shows a 'corrupt' screen (more frequent than blue screen).
Example Pic 1. click here Pic 2. click here 4. Usually around 30 mins or so with messing about (restarting countless times), it will be fine and run smoothly for hours on end!

While playing games or doing anything that requires memory and video card memory usage, my computer tends to lock up fully and make a buzzing noise, which is actually the last sound heard just repeating itself. I came on here with this problem before thinking it was the sound card or video card, but even after updating the drivers and inspecting them, its neither.

I checked the event log in BIOS and theres a long list of CMOS checksum bad errors. I'm kinda new to this stuff and I really don't know what thats a sign of, but its probly the source of my problem. It jut recently began beeping at startup and stopping while booting, while showing an error that says CMOS/GPNV checksum bad.

Any way to fix this?

HiOver the past couple of weeks my PC has begun freezing/locking up and crashing. When freezing the only way to turn it of is to hold down the power off swith. It frezees at random points and on various programs which leads me to believe it may be something overheating but how do i go about finding out what it is. (Have noticed my PC is quite loud lately also could this be the HDD?)In addition to this my PC is often crashing again very random. After sending an error report to MS the response is it is a driver conflict but no other help is available. Operating system is windows XPAny advice on how to go about diagnosing this/theese problem would be greatly appreciated.ThanksD

If you suspect overheating, take of the side case and see if it is very dusty. Observe fan/s and ensure they are working. With increased noise it is possible fan is not working properly,

I inserted my external hard disc and pen drive and got an error message as follows:
RECYCLER\Fhzozt.exe "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".
I ran it through a virus scan on Microsoft Security Essentials. After which I was able to pen the hard disc and pen drive but read "autorun" where I would normally find my data/folders. The files/data (160GB)although there in the hard disc and pen drive but are not visible or openable.

Unable to solve the problem I went to http://en.kioskea.net/download/download-291-windows-worms-doors-cleaner and upon downloading a worm cleaner I received an alert that said, "Your system seems to be infected by a virus, your SVCHOST virtual memory usage is beyond usual values. It is strongly recommended that you check your system with Antivurus updates and anti-trojans."

Microsift Security Essentials picked up nothing? I have scanned both my laptop and the external drives again.

I noticed last night the computer was running very slow. CAN someone please help me?

I tried inserting a friend's external drive and MSE detected and removed Worm:Win32/Dorkbot!Ink and the laptop would not open friend's hard drive.
I have noticed that IE keeps freezing up and crashing on me.

Hello all,

Have a problem with my PC, have had it for about a year now. Works great minus the "freezing" or locking up i get while watching videos or playing video games on it. This problem only seems to occur while im watching a you tube video or playing my favorite game WOW. The PC will freeze or lock up and i have nothing else to do but restart it, sometimes its good for days while other times it happens repeatedly.

Ive ran memory tests on the ram, and have tested the video memory of my graphics card as well, checked the hardrive, updated and fixed video drivers as well. After all that effort i got it to work again but alas after 30mins or so of running i got a blue screen crash then to a black screen. I restarted the PC only to find this error message:

couldn't open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) as well as

NTLDR: couldn't open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)

After all the testing i did i thought i had it but to no avail. Looking for any tips or help to get my PC to keep from locking up or freezing on me.

Have a 3.0ghz Intel core 2 duo processor
8800 xfx gpu
4gb ram
500 hard drive

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Just bought a new PC Gamers (spec below) from what I had hoped would be powerful and do for playing games and photo and music editing. Sadly got it Friday and already has crashed 7 times. The screen stays they same you just lost the mouse and keyboard as you can't move the pointer or the control alt and delete or anything you press on the keyboard do anything either, only way is to reboot,Its happened twice in a game, and happens when I'm installing software like it happened when I was installing 2 games, happened on installation of zone alarm and spybot.any ideas anyone, I seem to remember my old time computer years ago did something like this and I used software called anti-crash which solved it but as this is brand new and obviously something is causing it to crash I'd like to get it sorted.Has anyone any ideas what could be causing it.Its windows XP Home and I'm using a Benq 24" monitor.Intel Core 2 Duo 8800 (Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0 GHz 4Mb Cache, 4Gb Corsair Memory DDR 800, 500GB SATA Hard Drive, , 8025-C43 Midi, Atrix 720Watt Silent Dual Fan , 768Mb Nvidia 8800GTX graphics card DX10, QC - Gigabyte N680iSLI-DQ6-1333fsb-DDR1066x4 SLI (Dual graphics), DVD+/- RW - 18X Samsung Lightscribe, Floppy Drive - SILVER, Integrated Sound Card, Intergrated Monitor Speakers, , Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Inc SP2, No Additional Software, , Free Carriage, 13 Month Warranty)Cheers

Question: Crashing/Freezing

I have a Samsung Chronos Series 7 running Windows 7 and as of a day ago i have been experiencing extreme stability issues, freezing programs and general unresponsiveness. Whenever I boot up my computer and log in, within 5 minutes the system freezes, with the only way of shutting it off being to hold down the power and force reboot. Each time windows boots up, within a few minutes of logging on the system freezes again.

After repeating this a few times it eventually would boot up, but freeze between the windows screen and the log in screen. The mouse was functional and could be moved around the screen but it was frozen at a black screen. To fix this I ran a system restore through the BIOS. This corrected that problem but I am still left with the problem of my system freezing every time it boots up.

I have run my anti-virus (Kaspersky) and malwarebyes, neither have found any sort of malware.

Answer:Crashing/Freezing

1..What i would try first is boot into Safe Mode (f8) and see if problem is present there as well.İf everything works fine in Safe Mode then some third party services are probably causing the problems.

2.. a clean boot to troubleshoot the problem http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

3..How much RAM have you got? İf there's enough then next step 4.. would be a scan with http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

(best to access the site with İE)run a scan, checkmark all appropriate boxes, including 'check archives,

click on advanced settings and checkmark ''scan for potentialy unsafe apps'

disable your antivirus just before you run Start

and re-enable it afterwards. The scanner will give you the option to delete anything it finds at the end.

Please do that and if after a cleaning of your disk and a reboot, the problem persists, please let us know the results.

İf no malware is found we'll have to do chkdsk next.

P.S İf malware is found please also go to Start>Run type prefetch click ok and delete everything on that page, then empty Recycle bin and reboot.

Hello mikecks and welcome to TSG!

I've not played those games before but some games are known to cause unpredictable results, that's why some games disable the alt+tab ability.

Hi

For a while now I have been having trouble running half-life 2 and episode one of the game on my computer

The problem was that when ever I ran the game half-life or episode one that it would either freeze or crash the computer and restarting it.
So after a lot of hardware switching from my computer to a friends I found out that my ram seem to be causing the problem.

I use 2x 512 DDR 466 kingmax

I can run everything else on my system apart for half-life 2 with the 1024mb even more demanding games then half-life 2
But for some odd reason when I take out a 512 stick and only run the system with 512mb I can run half-life 2 and episode 2 with no problems at all
Itís only when I put in the second stick that I get problems with the game.
But to make sure that one of the ram sticks wasnít faulty I switch them both and ran the game and it all works as long as I only have 512 total system memory

So just to check I also used a friends generic 2x 256mb DDR 400 for both ram slots to make sure that maybe there wasnít anything wrong with the second ram slot but it worked just fine the entire time.
So Iím kind of at a loss at the moment on what could be wrong

My motherboard is a P4P800S-X that I had to get about a year ago because my original broke.

Thanks for any help

Question: crashing, freezing

Have had this problem for several months, possibly started after an intenet technician altered something to enable me to get internet (ethernet). Now have eliminated that internet and asked them to undo whatever they did but due to different technician and language barrier, doubt if it was done.

Anyway, have a fast computer. athlon 64 x2 but very slow startup, about 150 seconds even though are very few startup items. Computer first was crashing about every week or so, eventually every day, maybe two times a day. Different messages, such as IRQL not less or equal, memory management problem, bad pool caller, runtime error, attempt to write to read only memory, page fault in non-paged area. Lately has been crashing without a message and restarting itself. and now has just been freezing up. Also frequently Firefox has an error and needs to shutdown, and the same thing for my stock trading program. Ran that Panda malware cleaner, found nothing, ran memtest 86, says memory is ok. Oh, one more thing, the power supply blew out and needed to be replaced even though it is new computer. Found out that house current here often runs as high as 270 volts, apparently not enough to kick the surge protector but maybe damaged something. Now have a voltage regulator which keeps it at 220 volts.

It wasn't doing anything, it was hooked into an external monitor and only displaying on that screen, and also hooked into a laptop air cooling mat. Even at room temperature and with a cooling mat the laptop was hot (but not burning). I had the external monitor displaying a resolution higher than that of my normal laptop screen, but I have done that for the past 2-3 months playing tons of games requiring all of my system to run them. I am using a 2009 Mac OS X, desktop, Snow leopard, version 10.6.8. It was working fine until I decided to have MacKeeper do some checking and upkeep (first in 7 years). The day they did their work, I went onto FB to play a game which I've played numerous times before, only to find it began freezing and then crashing. It has done this repeatedly for the last 2 weeks, and each time it crashes the only thing I can do is unplug the computer and start over. It will not manually shut off at all, nor will anything click off. On a couple of occasions, the computer has managed to get 'plug-in failure' posted on it before it crashed, but that's all I know. I've had no less than 8 technicians look at this problem - all to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas?

I don't know the difference between a malware and a virus...so i hope I am not posinting in the wrong forum.

My problem is...my ASUS comuter, Windows 7, less than 1 year old, keeps crashing and giving me a blue screen with white writing on it, or freezes when i am online. I have brought it in for repair three times in the past 2 months. i bought the suggested anti-virus, even though i already had a different anti-virus already installed. This did not help. I downloaded the Microsoft security essentials...this did not help either. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Just got a minor question. What's the difference between 'crashing' and 'freezing'? Are they caused by the same things as well?

Thanks,

Eric

Answer:Crashing vs. Freezing

To me freezing causes you to restart your PC and crashing is a situation where your PC won't boot up or where your OS needs repair or installation

My computer randomly locks up/freezes. Sometimes rarely, sometimes everytime I start up my PC.

I'm using:

Windows XP/SP2
Radeon 9800 Sapphire
Intel 2.4ghz
Alliance 450w power
MSI motherboard
Lots of flashy lights on the box

Seems that when I update the drivers on my Radeon it makes it even worse, tried rolling back too.

Thing is, I don't think i've ever removed old drivers. How do I go about doing this?

Also I probably need to update my motherboard drivers for my Intel and my Radeon. They have the drivers on the MSI website... but I don't know what drivers to run!

Could this also be a heat issue? My CPU heat is at 104F usually. I don't know how to tell how hot my video card is, but I have half of my case open so it gets great air flow.

Can someone please help?

Thanks!

Answer:Computer freezing/crashing, help!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

I dont think it is heat issues. you said that your winxp freeze and crash..

Havent you still have a valid copy of Windows XP? Or perhaps a Windows XP Recovery CD? if you have a valid copy of winxp, you can try reinstall it or reformat it.

After that, go straight to Microsoft Update Center, download all of patches available, reboot.

Download Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (opinional)

Download Microsoft DirectX 9.0C, Reboot

Download MSI drivers, Reboot

Download ATI RADEON CATALYST DRIVERS, reboot

When all thing went accordly, Run the WINXP Restoration Point, set the point OR backup everything again in case your computer start screws up again.

Let us know if this dont works. Thanks.

Hey all,

I recently bought a new Video Card & and new Ram to upgrade my computer, now my computer used to run smoothly and never really gave me any major problems aside the usual spyware or virus, but ever since i upgraded it ive been experiencing some strange problems.

Basically when i open more then 2 tabs in internet explorer or firefox it slows down majorly and then crashes, or if im running a couple different items at once it may randomly lock up and crash.

I've looked around on the net a lot and tried lots of different suggestions on other posts but nothing seems to help me with my problem.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated just let me know what u need to know and ill do my best to provide.

Thanks All

Answer:Freezing & Crashing Problems

Pull out a stick of ram or 2. See if it runs any better with the ram setup you had before. You may have incompatible ram issues.

Also...did you uninstall the old video drivers completely (then reboot) and install the new ones for your new card?

Answer:AMD HD 6770M freezing/ crashing

Hi beetlespin, Welcome to Sevenforums.

I think when you are playing games or running CAD, your laptop is not switching to AMD card automatically as it should be. From your system specs, you have HP laptop. We will appreciate if you can also mention the model number of that. Its not AMD's issue. Go to HP's website and download the video driver from there. AMD simply releases a generic driver, It is up to HP to make the driver for your laptop. AMD switchable graphics is only turned on when using a AMD Vision system, and due to your Intel CPU it is NOT a AMD Vision system. So HP MUST go into the driver, and edit some code to turn it on with a Intel CPU, then release it to you. So turn your laptop upside down and find the product number usually looks something like this: AB123CDE#ABA.

Also, update your Intel HD drivers from Intel website.

Hi

My Samsung laptop has a problem it turn off while I'm using it and anytime it freezes, Ctrl, Alt, Delete does nothing, no response. So I have to restart with the power button. Sometimes it restarts as normal, sometimes it comes to the safe screen where it gives me the option start in safe mode (which I never do).

Answer:Laptop Freezing and crashing

Lets first see if the computer is in normal mode and not selective startup mode. Then we will address how to remove malwarebytes. Basically whenever you installed malwarebytes, the free version, at the end there was a selection of choices where you had to uncheck enable trail version of malwarbytes. But I will help you out.
msconfig
-----------
1)click the start menu
2)in the search field type msconfig
3)if your computer is in selective mode, click on normal mode. It will ask you to restart. Do so.

malwarebytes
------------------
1)visit www.ninite.com
2)select revo uninstaller
3)run the program
4)located malwarebytes in the list
5)follow the steps to remove all traces of malwarebytes from your system.
6)once finished, check C:/Program Files (x86) folder to make sure the malwarebytes folder was removed. If not then delete it.
8)reboot your machine
9) download malwarebytes from www.ninite.com     NOTE: when you install malwarebytes make sure to not to just click through the install wizard.

If you get stuck somewhere during this process DM me directly.

Hi guys,

I have "exactly" a similar issue to the below issue which i found somewhere else in the forum:

From time to time the PC freezes up - goes completely non responsive, the display completely stops, keyboard and mouse don't do anything at all (cursor won't move), and if there was audio playing at the time of the freeze, it repeats itself on a fast loop so it sounds like really loud static. There is no Blue Screen, no displayed error, the entire thing just locks up and I have to do a hard reboot. This happens more often when I'm gaming, and sometimes as often as four to five times per hour.

I have read about a suggestion regarding changing the voltages for CPU and memory. I am thinking of doing the voltage changes but i am not sure if it is a safe thing to start with.. Can you please help me out

some info about my system:
Motherboard: EVGA NF680i
CPU: DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66
2GB DDR2 RAM
EVGA nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS Graphics Card
current voltages set to:
Memory voltage: 1.85v
CPU core voltage: 1.31v

a friend may have a 350 or 450w lying around that you could swap in to test with

next would be heat

check for bad caps

Hello, last week my computer began to freeze at seemingly random times and is continuing to do so still. I can boot up and operate the computer fine for usually 10-20 minutes, but then my computer would freeze and either I can't move my mouse at all, or everything would slow down to a crawl and I would have to restart the computer. I have no idea why this is doing this; I have not installed any new programs since last week, and I thought it might be a driver issue, but I've checked and all my drivers are updated. Vista seems to be using 45-50% of my RAM just on idle, so maybe it's a memory issue? Help would be appreciated.

Answer:Random Freezing/Crashing

Hi -

RAM is definite possibility, as is PSU or other.

Run memtest86+ - http://www.memtest.org/

Burn CD-R ISO & boot with memtest. To burn ISO --> http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Since you can stay afloat for 10-20 min, follow these instructions to gather system info - it may tell us something -

Hello,

Im new to these forums, but i have recently been having this freezing problem with my computer thats driving me crazy.

Computer Specs:
Windows 7 Pro
I7 2600
GTX 570
8 Gigs of Ram
1TB HD 7200

I bought this computer in Dec 2011, and it has been flawless for me ever since. June 1st i went on a business trip overseas for a month and a half, come back and this problem started happening(I unplugged it before leaving, and no one was home).

The Problem:
Every time i try to open utorrent or frostwire, computer freezes. It doesnt really freeze, i dont know how to put it, i can still move my mouse around but i cant open anymore programs and frostwire utorrent will open very slowly, like my computer is struggling to do anything. So i try to control alt delete, nothing happens, i click start(or anything) on the taskbar, and that freezes as well. Usually the first thing that freezes is my taskbar. I have scanned my computer with avg and ad aware, no problems. Ok, so i reformat my computer, everything is fine and dandy, i then install frostwire, same problem all over again... uninstall it and try out utorrent, same problem. I thought maybe it would be my firewall so i disable it, it loaded the program fast and no problem, but then i try to do something after 2 seconds, and it freezes again. I cant restart my computer so i have to push the button to reset.

Meanwhile, if i dont open up these 2 programs, im fine. I use this computer to game a lot. I play diablo 3, left for dead... Read more

Answer:Computer Freezing/Crashing

Sorry but from reading your post and knowing what FrostWire is all about, there is no way we can assist you. Simply put there is nothing shared via FrostWire that is legit. We dont promote piracy. It is Rule #5 on the site.

You said it yourself, if you dont use them the PC runs fine. That is all we can say. Remove the programs in question.

Hi,
I installed a new SSD on my PC last November. I removed win 10 from my old HDD (which is still in my pc - for data) and I installed it using a Win 10 program that I downloaded from MS onto a USB stick. I did have some trouble installing, but eventually got it working. The only strange thing that was, and still occurs, is when I shut down the PC, it logs out of windows and appears to be off (monitor says no connection), but the PC itself is still lit up. I troubleshooted this at the time and ended up switching off the "sleep" of my pc, but didn't bother with fixing this because it's easy enough to just press the power button on the PC if I want it to be off.

That, however, is not my problem. I have been having random freezing. I leave my PC on at night, and often it's off (with the PC still on) in the morning. Strangely, my phone and ipad lose connection with the wifi when this happens and I have to reconnect.

It froze just now while I was in Word and I wasn't doing anything complex. I had a techie friend have a quick look remotely and he said that some of my errors were VSS which could be the Crashplan program. I googled and some people had the same issues because of the location of the Crashplan cache. I moved it to another drive, as instructed (this morning), but still crashed this afternoon. I seem to crash every day or two - often overnight.

Any ideas? Or is there a log of some sort or more info that I should upload so that you wonderful people can help m... Read more

Hello,

My laptop, Lenovo W7 64bit, has been freezing/crashing lately. I haven't had the BSOD but it will freeze at seemingly any moment (e.g. while playing game, while surfing web, while coming back from sleeping, etc.). I'm currently running Malwarebytes free and Avast free. To make matters worse, they keep asking me to pay for their premium product but I swear I've only downloaded the free versions (is there something to stop the things from saying its out of date or asking me to register to their pro or full versions?)

Anyway, anytime it freezes, Ctrl, Alt, Delete does nothing, no response. So I have to restart with the power button. Sometimes it restarts as normal, sometimes it comes to the safe screen where it gives me the option start in safe mode (which I never do).
I've used this board before and it helped so I'm trying again.
TIA

No matter what browser i am using, explorer, firefox, chrome ect, my computer keeps freezing up so i have to shut down the browser and reopen it. If im running explorer and it freezes then i can switch to chrome and then the computer seams to operate normally for a short period, 10 minutes maybe, then it starts freezing again... not sure what is going on.

When I ran hijakethis then this message came up...

for some reason your system denied write access to the hosts files. if hijaked domains are in this file hijakethis may not be able to fix this. ect.......

regardless, here is the log

Alright so basically I have 3 types of freezing/crashing happening:

One, is the screen just goes black but the computer doesn't totally shut down (I can still talk for about 5 minutes after the "crash" to people on skype).

The second is the screen goes plain blue or white.

Finally, the third (and most prominent) is my computer freezes with the screen still visible and when I move my mouse around the color of the screen distorts.

(example: mouse stops moving even when I move the physical mouse around and after about 2 seconds of moving the "frozen mouse" around, the screen starts to distort with more and more intensity the more I move the mouse)

Any help please?

By the way, I recently got a fan that sits under the computer because I thought it was over heating but the problem persists even with the computer being cool.
EDIT: Also, with all cases, it doesn't shut the computer down. I have to hold the laptop's power button to shut it down.

Answer:Computer keeps freezing/crashing and I don't know how to fix it

What version of Windows are you running? What is the make and model of the laptop?

For almost 2 weeks now my computer has been randomly freezing or sometimes just randomly rebooting itself. Sometimes it will freeze before it even allows me to log in and other times it'll freeze after I've been on the computer for sometime. I'm not too good with computers so I don't have the slightest clue as to what it could be. I thought it was a virus at first because MBAM kept finding a Trojan named svchost.exe (Trojan) after a week of tryig to kill that I gave up and reinstalled widows. After reinstalling windows it still froze so now I am stuck. I swapped power supplies so I dont believe its that. I also tried the hard drive in another computer and it didn't crash so I don't think it's the harddrive either. Any ideas on what it could be or what I could do to troubleshoot what can be causing this?

Answer:Random crashing/freezing

There are many reasons why a PC " behaves" this way.

These annoying " gliches" may be caused by an overloaded hard drive, overworked CPU, Malware, running 2 AV 's, unnecessary data, Browser addons or you may have unnecessary programs running in the background etc....

Troubleshooting steps for you to try -

* If you are overclocking STOP.

* Make sure all intake/exhausts vents are clean along with all fans.
Get some temp monitoring software for cpu, gpu.

* Have you a System Restore Point PRIOR to the problem presenting that you could roll back to?

* Have you SP1 installed?

* What Anti Virus Program came preinstalled on your computer?
How did you get rid of it?

* Please list ALL the Security Programs currently used.

* Have you checked in Event Viewer?
Type eventvwr in search.
Go to the Windows Logs > Application / System > in the left hand column.
Note anything in red that relates to the crashing / problem.
Please record {or take a snip} of the event ID, and the Source Code and tell us what they are.

Hey guys, having an issue.

So, at some point something happened and my backup/files drive had a meltdown and changed all the securities in some blackscreen recovery thing. Whatever, I changed the files settings and still have full control just now the icons at the root of "F:" all have little locks on them.

This may be unrelated but it seems since then that windows is being finicky. I've trouble shoot some things, poked around and I just don't know what is wrong.

Symptoms:
-Brief, <1 minute windows lockup. Nothing is clickable, mouse moves, some menus like League of Legends interface still highlight but doesn't work.
-No errors, BSOD, KSOD, or any pop up except when it crashes a game and that game tries to dmp or error report.

Any ideas on what to try? Also, it's Win 7 Pro SP1 on my main rig.

Answer:Freezing and program crashing!

Well the lock icon issue is an easy fix (or should be). It's probably just shared with "nobody". To fix that, just share the folder again with "everyone" and give them read/write access, then stop sharing it again (but not by clicking "Share with > Nobody". By going through Properties)

As for the crashes, assuming you've checked the event log?

Alright so my computer is constantly freezing for about a minute at the very least, sometimes I have to restart, task manager is telling me that firefox is currently averaging around 100, 000 - 110, 000k. Seems quite not right if you ask me.

Msn also seems to be using a fairly large amount.

I was wondering if this is the problem but I'm not sure.
Last night I performed a harddisk check and scan because windows seemed to think there was a problem with it, not sure what the results were because I left it for the 3 hours that it took and came back as it was finishing. I tried a system restore, didn't fix it.

I have no idea what to do, any ideas?
Sorry if this is the wrong section, I figured this is the only place it fitted.

Hello friends. I am coming to you today in hopes someone may be able to help me with my problems. I have recently built me a computer and have installed Windows 7 Pro x64 onto it. Now the problem happened about a week after assembling the computer. I made a few tweaks and it went away for a bit, but now is back again and seems like it is in full force. The problem that occurs is: after a few hours of use the computer will completely freeze and become unresponsive and requires a hard reboot in order to gain access to my computer again. The second problem I come across is frequent crashes. Now I haven't had one occur to me while at the computer, but coming back I have found my windows has crashed and telling me to check for solutions(which never comes up with anything). If anyone can help me with this problem I would be grateful. Thanks in advanced. PS, I have also ran Gentoo Linux on this computer with no such errors, so I know its in the Windows 7 and not my build.

hi code and welcome
To check for freezing/crashing you need to check several things.

1-Event viewer.
Type eventvwr in search and go to the windows log>application tab. Look for critical errors. Critical errors have red in the left hand column. Look for critical errors that say app hang, or app crash, or anything related to the problem.

When you find them either take a screenshot of them and upload them to us, or note th... Read more

Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit
Upgrade from XP 32 Bit
All hardware detailed in profile
Custom build from the beginning of June, so hardware only a few months old

Worked fine for a couple months and then started randomly crashing. MSE scan showed infections but cleared them. Symptoms remained so I tested with an Ubuntu live cd to try to rule out hardware issues. It didn't crash after an extended period of time so I formatted the hard drive and did a full reinstall. (This time I made back ups) Worked fine for a week and now symptoms are back.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:7 Pro 64 Bit BSOD, Crashing, Freezing

Catalyst Control Center and NEC USB 3.0 may have issues with Win7. Nothing to do right now, but please keep in mind. Uninstall if you want to be sure.

Only one memory dump and it points to the OS kernel (core). It's not likely that this is the issue. As it's a common driver issue, I'd suggest running Driver Verifier according to these instructions:

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come fa... Read more
