Blank screen, caps lock blinks twice

Question: Blank screen, caps lock blinks twice

So I was using the laptop with an hdmi cord attatched to my tv and it wasn't playing sound. I went through the control panel and attempted a few different things with no luck so I rebooted the computer. When it turned back on only the tv screen worked and the laptop screen was black. No backlight just dark. I performed a bios recovery and that went through succesfully but the caps lock button still blinks and I still have no video to the laptop screen.

Preferred Solution: Blank screen, caps lock blinks twice

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab21 and after a recent windows update, whenever I reopen after sleep, everything goes blank except for glowing power button, capslock blinking with 5 slow blinks and 3 fast blinks and fan rotating with high speed. First of all, is it the problem due to update or is it due to any other issue? Please clarify the issue and let me know how to handle it myself if I can.

Hey,my DV6-3023CA had thermal issues and intiate a thermal shutdown after hitting 103C very quickly.I disassembled, put on new thermal paste, cleaned fans and re-assembled.Now I get 1 blink on the caps lock.Tried every method, disassembled+reassembled over 5 times now.I think the CPU may have been damaged by me somehow during disassembly (no bent pins) or the extreme temperatures. Now I'm wondering 2 things.1) Is there any way to verify the CPU is the problem without sending it into HP? 2) If my CPU is dead, what can I upgrade the computer's Turion II P520 to?I've checked the manuals and there are a lot of CPUs on the same architecture, but I'm not sure which ones are compatible. Thanks in advance.

Right before this whole problem happened I was able to start my laptop, although I noticed that the whole loading ring started glitching and so was logging in. It told me that the laptop needed to restart and so allowed it to. It said error message: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT. It didn't have a problem until reaching 65% and the whole screen turned black with the caps lock key LED started blinking. It's been like this for a while please help

Hello everyone.  I'm attempting to help diagnose my sister-n-laws HP 15 laptop.  I've searched high and low for an answer but all I'm finding is people with different types of "3 beeps".  They either have 3 "short" beeps or 1 short with 2 long or something like that.  I can't find ANYTHING with 3 long beeps.  It does 3 long beeps twice and then nothing.  I can hear the hard drive spinning too. No HP or BIOS documentation ever mentions anything about 3 long beeps either.  Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this thing? I'm saying "3 beeps" but there's a total of 9.  However, these 9 are segmented into 3 definite sets.  It's 3 long beeps then a pause for 2-3 seconds then 3 long beeps, pause, 3 long beeps.  Total of 9 beeps.

Hello everyone,I'm holding a Pavillion x360 convertible pc 13-u002ne.I was watching a movie yesterday as usual on my recently purchased laptop and woke up to the the fact that it's not wanting to start off anymore. The power button turns on but the Caps Lock emits a blinking in the same pattern 3 slow blinks then 5 fast ones, with a black screen.I checked the link communicated above for blink/beeps troubleshooting but it doesn't show anything regarding my pattern.I opened the laptop and removed the battery, the CMOS battery and the Ram, then put them all back again but nothing changed.During the startup process, I tried pressing on various buttons and combinaisons to reset my bios but nothing seemed to work since all throughout my screen is always black.Any support would be highly appreciated.

Model CQ61 319WM This is a friend's computer.  Yes, it's old.  But, it was working fine until it went into sleep mode last night.  Hasn't come up since. Searches took me to this HP support page.  Win+B and Power on does not show the BIOS restore screen.  It just shows the same black screen.  It mentions trying more than once.  I tried at least a half dozen times.  Removed the battery and unplugged the power for a few seconds prior to some of the tries. The BIOS download (sp48895.exe) does not provide the option to format a USB drive as bootable.  I searched around and created my own bootable thumb drive.  Then, copied the BIOS files onto it. Unfortunately, that method also uses the Win+B and power on to bring up the boot order screen.  All I get is black. There are a bunch of "black screen" threads on here.  I've read several of them.  But, I haven't found any others that appear to apply to this model. Suggestions appreciated. Drake Christensen

I opened the lid and the screen would not come on, instead the caps lock key was blinking 5 slow blinks then 3 fast blinks. This computer was purchased from HSN in Aug 2015 and has about 10 hours of actual use time.  Model #17-G127DS.  Computer is Intel Quad-Core, 8GB RAM 1TB HDD.  Computer use was for internet access only and Outlook was never loaded.  Computer has Macafee security loaded on it.  Can this computer be fixed?  Closest computer tech is 100 miles from my location at a Staples Store.

Hello everyone. As the heading says I'm having trouble with my laptop. It was working fine Saturday evening and I went in and updated my audio driver (fixed the low volume issue-it was fresh Windows 10 install). I saw there was a BIOS update strongly recommended by  HP, so I downloaded and installed it (never again). Now when the laptop restarted during the install, it stayed running but the display was blank. I noticed the WiFi status light was orange and the caps lock button led blinking every 2 seconds, with a 4 second pause in between. I looked up the code and it indicated a bios failure or corruption. I followed the recovery instructions to a T multiple times but have had no luck. Here's what I've tried: removing all power (battery, ac), for an hour, holding down power button 30 seconds. Reconnect ac and holding down Windows and B then holding power button 4 seconds. Tried creating bios recovery media on USB and retrying the bios recovery process. Reseated the memory, unplugged and reconnected the hard drive  Nothing has worked. The fans spin, hard drive is working, power lights come on. I'm stumped. I know how to fix desktop pc bios issues, but never had problems with laptops.  The last resort is either taking it apart and removing the cmos battery and praying it works or calling hp support off warranty and most likely sending it in.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks! Nick

Hi!  EDIT: Found out about the backlighting hah, was pressing the wrong keys, silly me.   I've just bought this laptop today, and it turned on fine and everything. But now, a few second after logging in, the Caps-Lock button will start blinking in a sequence going 5 slow blinks, followed by 3 fast blinks, and then repeats. What is it trying to tell me? What can I do? I'm also trying to figure out if this model of the OMEN laptops allow backlighting, as backlighting was not turned on by default and the OMEN Control program was not preinstalled. I cannot find any information about it if this model allows backlighting or not. Any help appreicated! Cheers,

I have tried resetting and tried a new memory stick to no avail. I think it is the graphics chip set but not sure. The next step is replacing the mother board (rather than trying to replace the graphic chipset) but would like to know if theblinking LED on the caps lock key is telling me anything. It blinks 5 times, pauses and blinks 5 times, and repeats this endlessly. Does anyone know what it means or have any other suggestions?ThanxR.J.

I've been having this issue for sometime now. . . My laptop allows me to turn it on and once I do the screen remains blank while the caps lock is flashing once every 3-4 seconds and the f10 key has a orange led light on. After leaving it on for a minute or 3 hoping that the screen turns on, the computer then just turns off. My laptop has been taken to repair shop but still has the same issues.  I have also tried about almost everything i have read online on the forums with others who have the same issue.  The weird thing is i'll pay no attention to my computer for about a day or two after constantly trying to get it to work and it'll then suddenly turn on with a message saying that there is a thermal issue with the fan or something.?  I would appreciate if someone would help me fix this situation so that i can no longer deal with it in the future. Thanks!

Computer: HP Compaq 6735b Notebook PC Specs: Unavailable to check. Problem: An hour ago, I attempted to turn on the laptop and was met with a completely blank screen. At start up, the caps lock? and num/scroll? lock LEDs flash five times (it does not repeat). The issue came out of the blue. It was working this morning. All other lights are fine, including even the volume indicator lights. Of course, no sound is heard. From what I am gathering this is a motherboard  problem as per http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443366&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN . Could anyone confirm for me that this is so? Moreover, is there anything to be done short of replacing the mobo if it is a mobo problem? Related: Would I be able to remove the HD from this laptop, place it into another laptop, and have access to the files present on it? Or would this require formatting or installation in a HD case in order to transfer the files over?Note: This has nothing to do with my other active thread. Another computer entirely.

Answer:Laptop Blank Screen Flashing (5 times) Caps? Num/Scroll? Lock

You need to transfer first the documents from your hard drive as a safety procedure. You would need an enclosure adapter and another working computer to do this -> http://www.liutilities.com/how-to/install-laptop-hard-drive-to-desktop-computer/You could also follow the link you provided to diagnose the particular error codes on your startup problem.

My laptop's model number is Pavilion dv6t 7000. For some days it was having problem. When I shut down my laptop and turn off the power, next day i find that its not starts. A black screen, caps lock is blicking twice and the f12 button is red(WIFI). Nothigs happen. Then I searched and came to know that its the bios failure. Then I've tried some way and nothings worked. Atlast when I remove the cmos battery set it again after 2 or 1 minute its starts fine. Then againg I turn off the computer and its power next day again the same problem. I was solving this problem by removing the cmos battery and set it again for 4 or 5 days. But today this trick is not working at all. I have tried so many method like (Windows key + B), (Holding down the power button for 1 minute), (UEFI Flash) etc to solve the bios failure problem, nothings worked at all. What is the problem?  Is it really a bios failure? How can solve this? Is it a dangerous problem? Is there any chance that my laptop will be dead?

I have a Compaq Presario CQ56-101SG which does not start anymore.I updated the BIOS from Version F.00 to F.18 which forces the device to reboot which went well. But after a shutdown the notebook does not start, it hangs with a blank screen, power LED and WiFi LED lit up and Caps Lock LED is blinking about 1x/sec. What I tried to recover:* Remove battery and AC adapter, press power button for about a minute and try to power up again with AC connect. --> Same bad state as before.* Press power button for 5 sec while no power connected (battery removed), reconnect AC, press [Win]+[B] while power button starts the system. --> Same bad state as before.* The same as before but this time with a 2GB USB thumb drive (FAT16 formatted, "HP_TOOLS" named, put "01604F06.BIN" - an older BIOS version binary - into root directory) connected to USB port. --> Same bad state as before. - Did I anything wrong when trying to recover the BIOS?- May the name of the BIOS file needs to be something else?- Is there anything else I can try to get the device up and running again? Kind regardsChristian

Greetings!  I recently purchased a replacement motherboard and installed it on my f023wm.  Windows loads up and boots with no issues and the quick tests in diagnostics all come back as passing.  The thing is, the caps lock button is actually behaving as if it were the HDD LED... blinking erratically and in no distinguishable pattern at all.  I've counted anywhere between 7 to 20 blinks in rapid-fire succession.   I am currently running the System Extensive Tests in diagnostic mode and thus far the Processor Check, the Hard Drive SMART Check, the Hard Drive Short DST Check, the Battery Check, the Wireless Module Check, and the System Board have passed all tests with no errors to report.  The Memory Extensive Check and the Hard Drive Long DST Check tests are still in progress but I will follow up with those results as soon as they are available (estimated 2 hours and 20 minutes remaining).   I should also point out that when the caps lock button blinks, the system stutters as if it were lagging and pressing the caps lock button does nothing to stop the blinking. Does anyone have any idea as to what is going on?  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am stumped when it comes to this behavior.  Thanks for taking the time to read and I look forward to any help regarding the matter!

Hey there everyone, I have a dell Vostro 3445 laptop with windows 7 32bit installed in it. The problem which I am facing is that my laptop's capslock button blinks or sometimes it stays constantly on and due to this my touchpad stop working. This happens momentarily and then everything gets fine. This is  sometimes very annoying. Any solution(s) to this query of mine??

Answer:Is it normal that my caps lock button always blinks or sometimes stays constantly on?

Hi avkaran,
Thanks for posting!
A blinking caps lock light can have several possibilities.  In some Vostro models it can indicate loose RAM, so if you can, try reseating the RAM modules.  If that's not resolving the issue, then try an external keyboard to see if the same condition exists.  If so, then try reseating the keyboard data cables which  may help. If not then it's possible that replacing the keyboard, memory, or system board may be required.
If your system is still under warranty, a call to Tech support to troubleshoot will help indicate what may be the problem.  If not, then either try these things yourself, or contact Out of Warranty services for a return to depot and repair, or you could contact a local computer repair shop.
You may want to post back and describe your progress so the experts here can respond.  Thanks.
Regards,Robert

I have a dv6 laptop that was overheating due to dust in the fan. The lcd is blank, and if i connect an external monitor that is also blank. At first i thought the motherboard or cpu was fried, so i bought a used "tested" cpu and motherboard of identical part numbers on ebay but they have the same issue.I have tried only the battery, only ac, and both ac +battery for power. I have tried with the motherboard fully installed in the laptop with everything connected, and i have also tried with the motherboard outside of the case with nothing but the ac, power button and keyboard connected.I have two sticks of ram, two motherboards, and two processors, all combinations of the 6 give me the same result.Either the new motherboard is doa, or i am doing something wrong. When i first reassembled the laptop, i used too much thermal greese and the greese got on protruding chips, which i assumed is what fried it, but i was very careful to use a thin layer of greese on the new mobo and cpu. The greese im using is formula ... Read more

Hi,

how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?

I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Lenovo Y720 So, when I hit caps ock or num lock an on screen display tells me whether capslock or num ock has been pushed. While I appreciate it is helpful for some, in my case it become a hinderance. You need to remove "num lock" for single key print screen request, and if I have a short time frame, I am stuck without being able to screenshot until the num lock indicator goes away.  How do I turn off the on screen display.  Now, before you send me to the previously asked questions of similar nature, I have tried. There is no "display settings" in Control Panel. There is no "advanced display settings" on the settings panel. And there is no way to control it through NVIDIA or Intel graphics settings (that I can see).  Thanks kindly.

Good afternoon,

I just did a clean install of 7 to fix errors with my laptop, and it fixed one, but not the other main issues,
My caps lock, and number lock button on the keyboard don't have a light on it and the pop up that is supposed to pop up doesn't show up on screen.
I figured by doing a clean install it would all magically appear again... I was wrong, I have tweaked everything I could think of looking/trying to change setting from the keyboard in control panel, (including messing around with ease of use) and Gateways so called "support" area was of no help, as well as googling the issue has led me down a path of useless tips, I have also looked on this forum for help.

Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated!!

T470 20HE model Windows 10 64-bitFn key actions are displayed with on-screen icons/symbols (Volume/Mute, Mic, Display brightness), however when I select Caps lock or Num lock, there is no on-screen display.I re-installed the latest Lenovo Power Management Driver and Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 10 but no success. When I open the Display Settings >> Display adapter properties >> Screen configurations, the section "Indicator settings for Numlock and Capslock" is missing. Here are the Lenovo instructions: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/HT002122 See attached file for comparison of the Screen configurations settings and my actual settings. Interestingly, in the Lenovo Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Laptop 9.0.07 (current version) Readme.txt, (https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1wvu28e.txt ) there is a reference to a fix in the 9.0.0.6 as follows:<9.0.0.6>

I see lots of threads telling me how to disable the on screen CAPS LOCK ON message, but how and where do I ENABLE it? My Latitude has an led in the keyboard key, but there's always this hand of mine in the way.

Answer:on screen caps lock on

Welcome to Seven Forums markrheuer. A couple of possibilities, starting with easiest.

Start> In search box type keyboard> Under Control Panel, click on Keyboard> IF your Keyboard properties has a Key settings tab> Key Settings List> Double click on Caps Lock> Display Caps Lock status on screen> Click the check mark box> Finish

If no key settings tab, you can make your screen flash when you have Caps lock on

Start> In search box type ease of access> Enter> Make the keyboard easier to use> Check the box next to Turn on toggle keys> Apply> OK> Back to Ease of access main page> Use text or visual alternatives for sounds> Turn on visual notifications for sounds (Sound Sentry)> Choose visual warning> Apply> OK

I see where some Dell users have had success changing a registry key. Suggest always backing up your registry 1st

Registry - Backup and Restore

Start> In search box type regedit> Enter> Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dell Computer Corporation\QuickSet\QuickSetControl and set it's value to 1

Some freeware programs to do the same job

Free Keyboard LEDs software shows state of Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll locks.

I'm trying to get this Compaq Presario CQ62 laptop to start. I get a black screen with the cap lock light blinking when I turn it on. Occasionally it starts up normally but then returns to no start with the above described problem. I have removed the memory and the hard drive and reset them. Tried each memory stick individually in each memory location. I removed the battery and held the power button down. Several times I tried it and let the battery discharge while it was trying to start, then when the battery was dead, I plugged in the power and it started. I then removed the battery and started it 3 or 4 times and all was well. The next time, no start. I really could use some suggestions as I'm starting to pull my hair out and I don't have much left.

Purchased this non working computer for $40.  The screen is black, the caps lock light blinks and the wifi light is lit in orange.  At the time you could hear everything boot up in the computer, the fan would run, the harddrive would boot up .... so I watched some videos on black screen problems on youtube, got it up and running.   However it was a tease, it worked for less than a month.  I didnt fix the problem which was over heating.  I did buy quadfans to go underneath it but turned them off at night and shouldnt have.  I scheduled the computer to check for updates at 3am so the computer would come on then and the fans wouldnt.   Well the black screen issue is backkkk.  The fan doesnt start up, the harddrive tries.  This time nothing is fixing it.  Ive torn it down to the motherboard to replace the fan.  I replaced and upgraded the harddrive and memory ... still nothing.   It also has a new battery and power cord.  Any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Hello. I am trying to fix an HP G62-367DX Notebook PC.
Operating sys: Win 7, 64bit, AMD Turion(tm) 530II Dual-Core Processor, 4GB, 2.50GHz. I had this laptop since December of 2010 and on June of 2013 is when I used my notebook PC and was initially of no use. I have been working on my laptop on and off since. I am not afraid to open the sucker up and get this thing up and running.

The problem started out with what most ppl call it, the "blue screen of death". Like most ppl, I did ignore the blue screen and did a restart which brought me to the normal Windows screen and then it would start back up just fine. I found this in Device Manager's (Hidden Files):
Non-Plug and Play Drivers
-! ehdrv
-! epfwwfp
-! Security Processor Loader Driver
I am not sure if it has anything to do with what it was the blue screen situation, but I tried searching on the net on what it all meant and to see if I was able to fix it, but before I was able to do something about it, the blue screen kept popping up and it was getting worse.

The problem progressed to where on Windows startup it would just stop there, blue screen would pop up and of course I had to restart it and do an F8 key press for Safe Mode. I had to work on Safe Mode for a good couple of weeks before I can figure out the problem/s. I believe I had went into the system and found out it had something to do with some kind of error... *sigh* I did write it down, but that was like a month ago and I am unable to locate my ... Hello all- I updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. Since it seemed to be affected by BIOS, I updated again to 2.27 just now, but the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help. EDIT: Just fixed my own problem. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.

I hope this is in the right area... I have been using a Lenovo Flex 3 for...about 6 months now, I think. Maybe a few more than that, but overall - you get the picture. As far as I can tell, this link details the machine I'm using. I've taken pains to ensure that my machine is configured the way I like it - some of it was easy, some of it not so much. I've customized the coloration, put up a new background, reinstalled the Start menu because I despise Windows 8/8.1's "start screen", disabled the touch screen due to my habit of shifting position and then needing to adjust the angle of the screen... I mean you know how it goes. All the little tweaks that really make it your machine, right? One such tweak would be disabling this **bleep** popup that shows up EVERY time I hit caps lock. I have taken a picture of it from this screen itself to show that I am still dealing with this - it is intrusive. It is unnecessary. It is, overall, infuriating to me. This is what it looks like! In the vein of taking pains, I have taken a great many trying to find a working method for removing it. I have gone in to RegEdit, but I have no Widcomm folder under the specified directory. I have tried uninstalling Lenovo Energy Management, but I had to remove OneKey Optimizer instead, as LEM was apparently replaced with or bundled in to OKO...and doing so did not rid me of this popup - as you can see in the bottom right of my screenshot, I no longer have the ... In one of my pc's whenever i hit the cap or num locks keys it displays it doing so on my monitor.

Now normally i wouldn't care much for this but not all my keyboards for my computers have those green lights that light up when i enable the caps or num lock keys.

I am guessing its something that came installed with my computer when i bought it from newegg, any idea of a similar software that i can install in my other computers.

I like it displaying on my monitor when i turn on my caps or num locks keys

Answer:On screen caps lock display?

It would help folks here to know more about the computer in question. Brand and model if it is a commercial PC (Dell, HP, etc.) and operating system, or if a home built computer the motherboard make and model, and the operating system used.

If running Windows 7, type Keyboard into the Run box, and select Keyboard from the list that appears. See if there is a Key settings option. If so, select it, and find the Key Settings List. I can't recall where exactly, but somewhere in the list you will find "Display Caps Lock status on screen" . . . make sure it is unchecked. Not sure if this will fix your issue/s or not.

What kind of keyboard are you using? The display issue might be a function of your keyboard, and you might have to adjust the behavior in any software that came with it.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge (E530). Previously when I pressed the Caps Lock/Num Lock key, there was an onscreen indicator in the bottom right corner that showed these keys were on (and another indicator with the symbol crossed out when they were turned off). Quite randomly, the indicators have disappeared and I'm not sure why.  The buttons still work, but no indicator. The on screen indicators for the camera and microphone have disappeared as well, though volume and brightness still work and appear on screen. I've tried going to Screen resolution-->Advanced Settings>On-Screen Display and making sure they were enabled; as well as disabling and re-enabling them several times to no avail. I'm not sure what else to do..hopefully you all can help?I'm not too skilled with technology in terms of uninstalling drivers and the like, so if I have to do something complicated screenshots and detailed instructions would be really helpful! THE "HP On-Screen Caps/Num/Scroll lock Indicator" shows up in Programs and Features, but the size cell is empty!! Indicator lost during a previous "fix" of an unrelated problem. HP states they can neither replace the file nor download the file contenets. What, Where, and How can I retrieve the indicator as I have a &[email protected]*+ remote keyboard? HELP!
khdphd

Answer:HP On-Screen Caps/Num/Scroll lock Indicator

Hi, khdphd, and welcome to the forum....

They say they cannot download the file? I have always seen every HP that uses those hkCMD.exe files to be able to download them for that computer in the event of a reinstall.

Did you look at software available for download for your computer? If it is there, then you can download it, uninstall the current version, reboot and install that one and it should load the original files back in place.

Try uninstalling hkcmnd from Programs and Features (it may be named something a bit more fancy)

And I know what HP *said* - but look anyway.

Answer:black screen and caps lock blinking

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. I am afraid this issue cannot be resolved remotely and it is a bit difficult to understand and know in details what exactly you removed/replaced. Since it started to occur after this change obvious this is the cause. Please, review these artciles :>> http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01732674>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674and follow the appropriate instruction for your specific situation.  If they don't help, you can consult with HP Service center or bring the computer to HP authorized service center where the technicians will probably be able to help you solve the problem. If you cannot find a troubleshooting solution, contact HP Customer support for further assistance or to have the computer serviced. When I hit Caps Lock, a display pops up in the lower right corner of the screen to notify me of the change.  It looks like this: http://i55.tinypic.com/15xez9.png How do I stop this from happening?  I've found a bunch of workarounds via Google, and they all either don't work for me or don't apply.

Answer:Caps Lock indicator in lower right of screen

Looks like you have a wireless (bluetooth) keyboard. Easy way (if you don't use Bluetooth)Click Start.Type MSCONFIG.Allow User Account Control? - click Yes.Click Startup tab.Remove check marks from "Bluetooth Software" and/or "HP Desktop Keyboard".Restart computer. If you want to only shut down the little graphical presentation and you want to keep the bluetooth icon, use the steps above to prevent "HP Desktop Keyboard" from loading, but do not remove the checkmark next to bluetooth. And then prevent the OSD for the bluetooth caps lock indicator by making a minor change in the registry:Click Start.Type REGEDIT.Allow User Account Control? - click Yes.To backup your registry (in case soething goes haywire), select Computer, click File menu, click Export, give a name and save. After backing up registry, open each of the following registry values (the little folders) in this path:  HKEY_LOCAL_MCHINE_\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BTConfig\General\Double-click the value KeyIndication in the list on the right.Change the hex value from a one (1) TO A ZERO (0).Close the registry editor window and restart your computer. You don't need to save anything - it happens on the fly (scary).

Hi. I know a lot of people doesn't like the on-screen display of caps lock and I agree that having an indicator in the caps key is great. But sometimes I'm typing and switching and I'm very used to see if the caps is activated without moving my palm out of the place. So... is there any way to show the caps lock when is activated as it used to in previous models, like now it displays the keyboard light, microphone mute, etc? Some registry maybe?  Thanks.

I recieved the computer like this so I don't know what could have caused it. So far the most success I have had is copying the 363FF15.fd file from the sp48895 onto a usb drive and renaming it 363F.BIN. I put the stick in, plug in the ac adapter (no battery), hold Win + B and power on. The USB stick starts to flash and I let go of the keys. It will beep 4 times... long pause... 4 times.... long pause... 1 beep... long... beep.. long... and then nothing. The screen remains blank the entire time. So thats the best results so far. Ive tried other filenames like F.bin or leaving it as 363FF15.fd and all those attempts end up in it beeping once and the computer restarting. Any ideas?

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.

Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

Got a HP Probook 450 G0 here, which is powering up with no screen display. No BIOS, no nothing. It isn't the backlight. You can hear fans spinning up, the Caps Lock key starts flashing, but nothing else happens. I've removed RTC/BIOS battery, nothing. Removed and swapped RAM, nothing. Plugged into TV with HDMI, nothing.  I'm starting to suspect it's something more complex - a motherboard problem, a BIOS problem, or a CPU problem. I seem to remember older HPs having Caps Lock blink codes for reporting issues, but I can't see any info about that for the ProBooks. Any ideas?

Lap top died overnight. Plugged it in the next morning and the light from the mouse and the power button all came on as they normally would but the screen remains black and the caps lock led light continuously blinks.

Randomly my screen will go black, with the LCD backlight still on; some of the time the caps lock light flashes but not always. I have to force shut down with the power button, but it happens often during boot up. It's a brand new HP Pavilion 15-ab128na. Posts online seem to say the cap's lock light indicates a hardware problem, so it looks like I'll have to return it to HP. Worth mentioning: the problem occured before I installed linux, I hoped it would go away but it hasn't! Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

My daughters laptop will not start up.  Not sure if it's a screen issue or something else.  When you power it on you can hear it running and the power button lights up but nothing happens.  There is a green light flashing on the caps lock but that is all we get.
