Lenovo G50-45 - there is no way to turn on wireles...

Question: Lenovo G50-45 - there is no way to turn on wireles...

Hello. I have a lenovo G50-45 which I wiped clean and installed Win 8.1 x64 on it yesterday. However I have run into a big issue which is I cannot find any way to turn on wireless. Wireless worked fine before reinstall. Now the device manager doesn't even show anything related to wifi. I have installed Energy Manager but that hasn't helped at all. Wireless is enabled in BIOS. No drivers for wifi work either. I am stumped, please help me, this is a friend's laptop.Thank you!!

Preferred Solution: Lenovo G50-45 - there is no way to turn on wireles...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo G50-45 - there is no way to turn on wireles...

hi anabella1234,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you're already installed the driver below then it's likely that you have a different type of wireless card installed

WLAN Driver (Atheros, Broadcom) for Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

This may also explain why you still have Network Controller entry in the device manager --which is your wireless adapter.

In this case, can you follow this guide on how to find the hardware ID of the adapter or send me a PM regarding your machine serial number so I could check the brand and type of the wireless card.

Let me know your findings.

Regards

So I had a problem with my T500's backlight initially and long story short, disassembling the computer has now caused the problem in the title. Whenever I plug in the battery/charger and push the power button, the fan will spin and the hdd will whirr a bit, but then after about 3 seconds, the fan will stop and the hdd will click off and cease whirring. The computer will no longer respond to the power button regardless of how many times nor how long the power button is held. I'm looking directly at the wires that carry power. Everything seems to be plugged in. I did the lenovo power trick (IE the 10 one second presses followed by the 30 second long press) and the computer does the 1-3-3-1 beep when I take out the RAM. The monitor is not plugged into it in any way, shape, or form. I do not know if this affects it. However, I have tried attaching the monitor and it still does this. Is there a piece that may have been knocked loose or something? I'm willing to try anything right now because at this point it's a literal brick now.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T500 will turn on for roughly 3 seconds, then turn off and stay off.

Hi npesina, welcome to the forums,

there could be different reasons for the system behaving the way you describe, my suggestions;

remove all hard, SSD and optical drives to see if you experience the same,
remove all RAM, without replacing the drives, and test to see if you receive a system beep code,
remove all components which had previously been removed to test again.

The ultimate test would be to remove everything attached to the mainboard including the CMOS (BIOS) battery excluding the power socket, CPU and the fan. When you attach the power cable the system should come to life, the fan should run and beep codes sound.  After that its really just a case of putting the system back together one component at a time testing inbetween each component replacement, leave the main battery and CMOS battery until last to save having to always connect / disconnect the keyboard in order to turn the system on.

If at any point you experience the same issue as now it may well be that the component you replaced at that point or it's attachment socket on the mainboard  is the culprit.

Question: wireles on S10-3

Hi. I need help. I just got a couple of older lenovo S10-3 netbooks. sans operating systems. I've formated with a generic copy of windows 7 but have no idea as to which drivers to get. Lenovo would like me to buy their bundled windows 7 with the drivers for this machine for some $79. I cannot afford to do that. My issue is how to identify my wireless card and get the drivers myself. unfortunately I cannot find itThanks a bunch, John. If I go to the command prompt and enter getmac /v I get my lan is realtec RTL8102 with a physical address. Below that is listed: Bluetooth Network Bluetooth Device and a physical address as well. Under the transport name for both devices is stated " media disconnected". Is this Bluetooth device my wireless adaptor????? If not, how can I find it to get drivers. I get the feeling that there is probably a few other pieces of hardware in there that are not being recognized, so, how can I inventory everything that is in this netbook; I'd really like to get it up and running.

I have just picked up a leaflet from PCWorld about setting up wireless networks. It states conect the modem router with a Cat 5 cable to a nearby computer. It does then go on to say connect to the wireless router from the wireless enabled PC well my question is this, The laptop (the wireless one) is the one with the broadband connection. Can I just connect to it with wires one time (to set IP addresses and security) and then wireless the rest of the time and still keep the same settings for that network on my laptop and then connect it to my desktop at the end of the process or do I have to have them both wired when I set up the network. Also how do you run the setup within Norton Internet Security?

Answer:How to Set UP a Wireles Network!

You need to connect once with a cable to set up the WiFi Router (from your laptop) then afterwards you can connect with WiFi and not have any cable connection to the WiFi Router.

Question: Wireles problems!

Hi, I've used my laptopto access the internet through wireless all year, and now I've just moved house so we're using a wireless router that one of my housemate's had in her house last year. Her's works fine but no one elses in the house does. It's a Netgear router and my wireless card is a D-link Air DWL-610, Thanks

Answer:Wireles problems!

If you are looking for help in getting connected some information would help. Brand and model of the router? Can you connect successfully via ethernet? What happens when you try to connect via wireless--detect network, acquires network address, ...?

If the network is secure, try connecting first w/o encryption to eliminate one variable.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

We have NTL broadband and were told we needed a DSL router to get wireless braodband. Bought the Netgear 54 Mbps Wireless Router, connected this to our NTL set top box (downstairs) and ran the disc on our computer. It doesn't work but we don't know if we've bought the right thing. We don't need wireless internet to any other machine, just to our one PC. Does a router do this or is it just for a wired PCT to a laptop that can be wireless? Also do we need some sort of adapter in the PC to send a signal to the modem (which I presume is in the set top box, right?). Otherwise where does the signal come from?Currently we are still accessing it using a cable. Any help appreciated as we are both quite limited in our IT skills. Thanks.

Belkins get hotter than most and you might find it wise to turn it off most nights. I and other Belkin users have found the heat to have some ill effects in some circumstances; it depends whether it is in a sufficiently cool and well-ventilated area, or near to other sources of heat.

Hi there! I am having problems with my Lenovo s10-3t. I was still able to use it before it didn't turn on. I used it at school and when it notified me that I only have 10% battery left, I turned it off till I reached home and charged it from 11:00pm-1:00am (which I usually do). When I turned it on that morning around 9:30am, it won't turn on anymore. With battery on, the battery indicator will just blink once and will not continue booting. Not even the power indicator nor the hdd indicator will lit. The screen is not displaying anything, no logo, nothing.. Please help me. I did all the suggestions I've searched here in the internet but nothing happens... Thanks!

Hi vlads_,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

If you still have covered warranty , it would be best if you call in tech support for the in warranty service .
You may check the warranty here .

How was it if you turn it on using the Novo button (item 8 page 3) instead.
It suppose to turn on the pc too.

Check if the charger is also working , Try directly plugging the pc to a known good wall outlet without the power strip .Would the battery led blink?

Opening the bottom cover may void the warranty if damage may happen. (page 34)
Doing power drain may help. ( Unplug the ac adapter and remove the battery then pressing down power key for 20 seconds . then release and place back battery and try plugging it to test .

Hi, I just got my laptop about a week ago from Newegg, and it has been working fine so far. Last night I let it charge all night, and this morning I went to turn it on, and it wouldn't boot up. I tried holding the power button for a long time (about a minute), and nothing changed. When the power cord is plugged in there is a blue light on, but that's the only change. I try holding the power button with both the charge cord in, and not, and still the same. I don't really want to have to RMA it or return it if I don't have to, I would prefer to resolve it myself. I work out of town for extended periods of time, so if I have to send it in, I will be out of a laptop for at least a month. Would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks, James

Answer:Lenovo Y50 won't turn on.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problem with the new computer.  Try doing this several times in a row.......

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 3. Plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If that doesn't resolve the power up problem then I am afraid your best course of action is to RMA it back to the Egg.  The other option is to contact Lenovo Support for warranty service.  Unfortunately both options will leave you without a laptop for a period of time.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

I was using it and it said there was a problem and it needed to reboot.  When I press the power button, it starts to turn on, shows the lenovo welcome screen then just gives a black screen and doesn't do anything else.  This happened last week too, and it eventually started working again but there's definitely something not right.  Please, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I remember having the laptop on standby mode before I slept (with the AC adaptor plugged in). The next day, the laptop does not turn on. No signs whatsoever, not even the LED indicators. I tried the 10-press solution I read here in the forums, didn't work. 2 days later, I tried doing it again and the laptop suddenly turned on! However, when I tried to plug in the adaptor, it doesn't work, and the laptop died down again. What could be the problem? I'm sure it's not the motherboard since it suddenly opened anyway. Could it be the AC or the CMOS battery? (Not using the laptop battery, but still works for a while)

Answer:Lenovo S10-e does not turn on

hi mikkieugenio,

Welcome to the Forums.

When the unit turned on a couple of days later, did you get a black screen with the LED lights? Or are you able to boot into Windows then it shuts down? If it's the former,  the GPU is probably bad and needs a reflow.

Have you considered taking the unit to a lenovo service center / local computer repair shop?

I am connected to a home wireless connection. I'm not far from the router & it is on. Now when i first turn on my laptop until about 30-45 minutes, the connection is on & then boom. its gone. It says Windows cannot find any networks or something like that. But in HP Assistant the status of the wireless adapter is ON. I think i heard that this is a sign of a virus. Does that mean that something is still on here?

Hi guys i am getting wireles so that i can use the internet at the same time on 2 computers.

My question is how can i make it safe?

Also can i use any wireles card with any wireles setup???

Thanxs Baltan

Answer:How do i make wireles safe?

If you're going to use a router, which I think you are, you have to make sure both the card and router have the same letter, ie. 802.11G is the most used today, I think.

You can use MAC Adress filtering and WAC encryption, you can hide your SSID, so nobody can see your network name.

That's all I know. All of the above options can be found in the router setup, which you can acces by typing in the routers IP adress in your browser.

I run a small business from home and have two desktop computers. One has broadband internet DSL connection (AOL Broadband). I want to be able to work on both computers simultaneously and access my broadband internet connection from the computer that currently doesn't have the ADSL modem connected to it.Both computers have 2 USB sockets. However the one with the ADSL modem connected has both being used - one by the modem and one by a scanner. The other has one USB socket in use by a digital camera with the other free. What is the best way for me to wirelessly network these together? Do I need a 802.11b Router or could I fit a USB wireless adaptor to the machine with a spare USB port and a wireless PCI card in the machine with both USB ports in use?In the future I may purchase a laptop and relegate the rather old machine that has one USB port free to a child's bedroom. Presumably I could use the USB adaptor with the laptop to work anywhere in the house including using a broadband internet connection.

I sent him away for 20 minutes and took some time to research but I am unable to find much at the moment. So I believe it is a fiber back bone and works by setting up "Hubs" which distribute to an area of a couple of blocks wirelessly to the home clients.

Its $50/month flat no taxes or fees extra. It is supposed to be 50Mb/month guaranteed but you have to sign a 2 year contract?

I declined him as the little bit I did find was very mixed.

Any thoughts/opinions or information you would care to add?

Answer:Vivint Wireles Internet

I assume you are in Utah or Texas? They are new to the game still and from last I heard had worked out a lot of the kinks off some extensive beta testing. The only thing that scared me away was the 2 year contract. PM me with any specifics and I'll talk to my neighbors using them for you. Some of them have been part of the alpha/beta first user waves and deal with the initial growing pains a few years back.

I use Vivint for my security and monitoring but opted to stick with Comcast for internet since I game and anything wireless for gaming scares me.

I never realised how important the internet was to me until....my notebook (see below) would not connect. Here's the problem:

The connection symbol in the system tray shows 'not connected - no networks'. The symbol has a red cross through it, not, as occasionaly happens when the internet connection is temporarily lost, a yellow circle. So (I think) my notebook is not seeing my modem/router or detecting even the carrier. It worked on Wednesday (9) last, but not Thurdsay (10). in between that time I tried a system restore which failed due to an "unspecified error" (in an effort to solve another problem: desktop and taskbar icons were messed up).

The wireless device (transceiver) in the notebook shows up in Device Manager, so that has not become disconnected. A Dell laptop was able to connect wirelessly to the internet without any problems, so my router/modem is working properly.

I am at a complete loss as to what to do about this, it feels like my life has come to sudden end, I might have to something something useful ! Please, please help !

We'd better take a look at your network state. Type cmd in Start > Search and click on cmd.exe above. Type ipconfig /all (note the space) and in the cmd window right click > Select All. In your next post use Paste (Ctrl V).

Hello, This evening, I was using my Logitech M505 wireless mouse to do a project using Microsoft Word 2007 Home Edition, which the project contains tables that I have ceated. As I drag the mouse to highlight an item, I have noticed some wierd actions such as some of the items or boxes start moving irregularly, or in some cases, the curson jumps to another location in the project. When I use the internet, I sometimes use the scroll bars to scroll up down a page. as I click and drag on the bar, it sometimes enlarges the display, instead of scrolling. Can you help me with this problem?

I reinstalled ?ThinkVantage Access Connection? and wireless device driver many time but there are no changes. Now situations is that Wireless led on the screen flashing, but ?ThinkVantage Access Connection? and Wireless Network Connections ?says? that no wireless device.I want to use Lenovo?s software for connection because it?s very good for various connections. I want to ask about installing new OS on new partition (second OS). How to install SATA driver in the beginning of installation (F6 in WINXP). My second question is: If I use recovery CD from CD-ROM does this mean that WINXP will return in state when I bought my notebook? Is it true that after recovery with recovery CD, new password must be obtain from Lenovo? Thanks in advance.Message Edited by redjacket on 09-18-2008 07:31 AMMessage Edited by redjacket on 09-18-2008 07:32 AM

Answer:Problem with wireles R61(8919CTO)

I don't use Access Connections, but you can try to remove both the drivers and AC and install only the intel wlan driver to see if it works. If it does, there is a bug in AC, but if it doesn't, run a hardware diagnostic with PC Doctor's Windows or Boot CD versions.Message Edited by mludwig on 09-20-2008 10:18 AM

Sorry if this is a long winded question. i will try to be brief.
I am at present in France staying in a Gite next door to the main house. They have broadband and a wireless router. I can get a week signal in the Gite and that is how I am connecting right now.I am a little restricted as the owner of the house and Gite is on Orange.fr and he is not willing to move his router.
I therefore connect using my Netgear dongle. In order to get a signal I have a long USB extension cord that attaches the dongle to the laptop. The dongle itself is now in a sealed plastic bottle on the roof of the Gite.
My laptop is old running Win XP and only has USB 1. I purchased a PCICSM USB 2 card that slots into the laptop and provides 4 USB 2 ports.
When I connect to the internet via USB 1 it works.
When I connect via the USB 2 card it disconnects every few minutes. As I say it connects beautifully but keeps disconnecting every 5 to 10 minutes. This does not happen when I connect with USB 1.
Any suggestions?
Also any suggestions how I can improve my VOIP quality as using USB1 and a low strength signal from the router I get poor quality.
Thanks,
Ray

Hi

Our wireless network with a security password is not being recognised in the list of available wireless connections. I can see it in the list of networks in the Control Panel but it is not being listed in the available network list . We can connect directly to the router but there is no security password and I would either
a. like to assign a password to the connection (NetGear) or
b. be able to connect to our original network listed in the control panel.

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Wireles network not appearing

and welcome to the Forum

I moved your post to the Networking Forum . .

When you say "We can connect directly to the router but there is no security password" what exactly do you mean.

Let's take a peek at your network:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application ... Read more

Hello, all.

I am currently running the RTM version of Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion Elite desktop.

With every attempt to connect to the wireless network, an error message tells me the password is wrong.

This, however, isn't possible, since I'm using the same network on a laptop running XP to type this message, using the same password I tried on the HP.

Wireless router: Linksys WRT160N
Encryption Mode: WPA Personal
Encryption Type: AES

I had a similar problem at first with my old network, which was running the same encryption, until I entered an ascii passphrase that was generated along with the random WEP key.

This is a very strange issue.

I have checked all the drivers, which should not be an issue, since the network worked earlier today on a different router.

Also, I used to use this network last year with Vista, and the password has not changed.

Finally getting around to upgrading ADSL modem/router.

I asked the best value modem/router question ages ago and the majority of answers was to get the Billion 7800N (but ended up not being able to afford it at the time). After some reading this seems to still be the one to go for. Can anyone please suggest if this is still best value one available?

Does anyone recommend anything else around this price ($120 on eBay) and if so why?

Now have a WD TV and want to stream movies to it and the modem/router is currently a bit of a bottleneck (currently using a TP-Link TD-W8920G).

Appreciate any suggestions.

(started this on wrong forum, so I've copied it here)I have a BTVoyager 2091 wireless router, working fine with the host pc connected by usb. My xbox 360 uses the ethernet connection with no problems at all. Now, I have a fairly old laptop with a Belkin wireless network pcmcia card. I have the configuration details for the router; network name, network key, authentication type, data encryption type etc., and all has been entered correctly into the Belkin wireless utility setup. The connection is set up as shared on the main pc. However the laptop cannot connect to the host pc's network. To maybe confuse things a little: the host pc is running XP, the laptop is running win98se. Now although I realise this makes it more complicated, I have gotten a similar situation to work: connecting both together through a USB cable; by making a Netsetup floppy. To make things more confusing (to me anyway): - my son has a PSP and a DS, both find and connect to the router just fine thank you, and use the net connection - The router manager on the host pc can see the "wireless client" e.g. the laptop and list it's MAC address, and plot it's online time. The Wireless utility on the laptop can see and connect to the router. But no other software; BT yahoo setup software, Netsetup.exe, etc., etc. can find the network and get the two "talking." Does anyone know if this is a "known" problem with wireless networking and win98? Especially when trying it between XP and 98? (My sister had the same probl... Read more

Answer:Wireles networking problem

<<< The connection is set up as shared on the main pc. >>>If you mean that you have enabled "Internet Connection Sharing" on a connection in the PC, then you shouldn't have. When you use a router, there is no "host" PC, all computers connect directly to the router (either with a "wired" connection or "wirelessly") and get their Local Area Network connectivity and Internet access via the router. There is no additional *direct* connection between computers.<<< The Wireless utility on the laptop can see and connect to the router. >>>Have you actually "Connected" to the wireless network? In other words, have you run the wireless adapter's software, scanned for "Available Wireless Networks", found and highlighted the one that matches your router's SSID (network name) and selected the option to "Connect" to it? Once "Connected", the wireless adapter should get its IP address by DHCP from the router and you should have network and internet access. There is a difference between the Wireless Network Adapter and Router communicating with a good signal and "Connecting" (as in "logging in") to your Wireless network.<<< Does anyone know if this is a "known" problem with wireless networking and win98? Especially when trying it between XP and 98? >>>No, networking 98 and XP is not in itself a problem.

I recently purchased the 2.4 Ghz Visenta Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad.... I spent about an hour browsing different versions of their site, from the visenta.us to visenta.com to their chinese counterpart and was unable to come up with a contact for product support. so I'm here.

The product itself, installed and ran just fine. There weren't any listed compatibility issues with it and my OS (which is XP). But when I use it the key bindings aren't as they should be, and the product didn't come with any sort of manual to fix it so... I'm stuck.

my current issue is that the shift function... does nothing. and the alphabet:
abcd efg hijk lmnop qrs tuv wxyz ends up:
abcd efg h512 30n6- qrs t4v wxyz

fairly certain the alphabet shouldn't have numbers in it. I'm not sure if this can be fixed. I can't seem to be able to access any of the programming behind the product, if anyone has any ideas, that'd be fantastic, otherwise I just spent $80 on a paperweight.

Re: Uk slow wireless speed
I have Toshiba laptop Satellite 3001MC with Vista 32 bit. The distance between the router & laptop is about 9m within a domestic structure. When I have been with BT the signal of wireless at back room has been poor & I have got by changing channel from 6 to 11 & vice verse – never had dramatic wireless speed drop. Since I am with Plus net, having a router TG582n Plus net, the wireless at front room with Ethernet & wireless is good but at back room keeps dropping to 3mp or less. Initially the router has been replaced but the problem has gone from bad to worse. During the past 5 days whatever I do I can’t raise the wireless speed to normal, at best for one hour after putting off router & laptop then putting them on. I have already changed channels from13 to 3 to 8 to 6 to 11 & at front room there is good speed with Ethernet & wireless. However at back room it drops dramatically without any warning & green light is flushing. I also tested without a telephone in the socket, but the same happens. I also have got new filters but for no avail.
Plus net claims as if my wireless is faulty & unless I install another computer which would behave the same as my I don’t get help. I can’t borrow another computer & if I could it would be set to the broadband they use. Instead I found in Task Manager Network Adapters that Intel(R) Wi-Fi Link 5100AGN has the latest adapter & that it works properly. In Network Sharing Ce... Read more

hi west coast-er. as much machine information plus operating system software as you can give. last update.  how it behave the last time it was shutdown.  beeps , sights and sounds. This Is what the community members that can help troubleshoot the machine will ask.  new battery is always a comfort when troubleshooting, so You did good with that.  can you take out the memory / ram , both, and report what is seen and heard when attempt to power-on. then one memory stik in slot one. then other memory in slot one. one at a time.  it will help to know as those who will respond will want to know.

Answer:Lenovo Z510 won't turn on

Hi Katsura94 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Since you have already tried remobing the battery and power drained the pc pressing on the power button while unplugged . Would using the Novo key to turn on the machine work?
How is the Power button , is it solid on ? off ? or blinking amber ?

Check on Power system checkout page 21 for additional steps .

Would you see the fan spinning?
If you remove the harddrive and memory, would it beep ?
Do you notice any burnt mark or loose cables on the DC in port ?
It should work even without the base cover but best to try it with the parts back in place.

If the same issue you may call in Lenovo tech support for recommended repair .

Update us how things go.

Hello. Yesterday I have dropped my 4 years old Lenovo B590 and I left it alone for a day. Today I'm trying to turn it on and I have a trouble with it. When I do it for the first time it says it does the Automatic Repair and Diagnosing Your PC, and then shows the Automatic Repair blue page with options to Restart and Advanced Oprions. And if I Restart it, it is then stuck on Lenovo first page and does not load further. So then I have to turn it off and on again. And there is Automatic Repair again. So what shall I do? Cause I have a lot of more or less important documents and it would be bad to lose them. Thank you in advance

Answer:Lenovo B590 won't turn on

If you have a data on the hard drive that is important to you, I would take your computer to a reputable local computer shop and have them try to backup your data.    It is possible that the drop damaged the hard drive, but the fact that it tries to boot at very all is a good sign, so there is a good chance that your data can be backed up.  In a worst case scenario, you may have to replace the hard drive (which are not too expensive), but it may be repairable too, but if you data is irreplaceable, I would not touch it until I had a backup in hand. Good Luck,

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Won't Turn On

The 1 long, 2 short beeps error sounds like a classic case of nVidia failure. This effects units with nVidia graphics built before 08/08, but most failed units date from 08/02 and prior (2008/febuary). Without a lot more information from you, I can't be sure if you have an effected unit or not, but it's highly probable. If you would like some help fixing it, the first thing I'd need is your full model and serial (send in private message, serials aren't allowed in forum). Also, just so your aware, "if" you do have a failed nVidia chip, it would require replacing the system board to fix it.

Hi mond45,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try performing a Drain first

First do a Power Drain
     (If the battery is removable)
Remove AC and Battery and hold the power button down for 15 sec.
Now Reconnect only the AC (No battery see if it will turn on)
Now Try reconnecting the battery with the AC and see if it will turn on.

If the Battery plugged in caused the issue You will need to have the battery replaced.
If both will not work,

Try checking the RAM and HDD
Remove the HDD and see if that will let you Get to the Lenovo Screen.
Remove the ram and try using only one Module or try using other RAm port.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hey Guys, I picked up a Yoga 3 just before xmas and its been running well until just recently. I have noticed that if I shut the machine down and then return to it later it will often not turn back on. Pressing the power button will cause the keyboard to light up but nothing else. After a random amount of time and attempts it will turn on. Whilst trying the light on the power button will remain on. I have contacted online support and they want me to post the laptop to Germany for them to take a look but this wil leave me without my work computer for some time. This problem is also random in that it doesnt always happen. I worry they will try a few times and not be able to reproduce the issue and post it back. Any one any idea of what it might be? I searced the forum and found similar stories but no real advice as to what it might be or a fix. I have updated the BIOS, which didnt seem to help.  Thanks guys

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 3 sometimes won't turn on

I routinely have the same issue.  What I have done is hold the power button ON for about 30 seconds. Then try to restart.  It succeeds sometimes, but boy, is this a frustrating problem.

I bought a Yoga 700 and after a couple of months it stopped charging and wouldn't turn on. When pressing the power button the light flashed amber a couple of times but that was it. I returned it for repair and the repair notes said the BIOS had been upgraded and it was working again. Unfortunately the person performing the repair sliced the top of the laptop with what looks to have been a Stanley knife but they didn't say anything. I returned it and got a replacement. Now, a few weeks later I have exactly the same symptoms with the new Yoga 700. Is this a known problem with the 700 because it seems too much of a coincidence? I'm probably just going to ask for my money back unless someone can tell me a quick fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys! I bought a Lenovo G770 some 6 months ago and had no problems with it. Today, I was just checking my mail and such, and went to shower. The laptop was turned on, with the internet online, on the user selection screen. It was not plugged in for charging. When I came back, the screen was off and the 2nd (battery?) light was on with a red color. I tapped some keys so the screen activates but it didn't. I plugged the laptop to charge, and the light flickered. It soon became white, and still flickered. I turned it off and on a few times but it never turned the screen on. Now, when I turn it on, I hear a clicky sound and a second later the laptop shuts down. The screen doesn't show anything. Any info? Cheers!

After I finished working on my laptop I closed the lid, and went to bed. The next day I open it only to find it turned off. Thinking nothing of this I try to turn it on, but instead I get three beeps and a black screen. When I try pressing the button again I get one beep and the screen remains the same.  My laptop, also mentioned in the title, is a Lenovo ThinkPad T61. Please help me find a solution. Thank You, Crystal Park

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Won't Turn On

Assuming your system has nVidia graphics, it sounds like you have a failed GPU. There is a very long discussion about this problem, and the only real solution is a system board replacement. Since an updated nVidia chip was only produced for 3months, machines (or system boards) with the improved chip are rare and difficult to find. Most people consider doing an Intel conversion, which would require replacing your nvidia based board with an Intel board, and matching heatsink. I recommend you read the last five pages of the topic posted by Mark Lenovo in this forum, we've discussed this at great length there and it covers most of your low cost options.

My Lenovo R500 won't turn on it on. Only the light of the battery is blinking and the connector light. Please help me ive already done a hard reset but the problem is still the same.

Answer:Lenovo R500 won't turn on.

Hi Kino_tosko,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issues with system NO POST on your ThinkPad R500.

Check removing the battery and connect only the power adapter.
Perform power drain and check it once, to proceed with power drain, remove power adapter and battery hold the power button for 30 seconds and after that connect only power adapter and try switching ON the system.
If possible try removing the CMOS battery and check only connecting AC power adapter.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hello! My laptop doesn't turn on. It simply turned off when I was using it. When I turn it on the "off" button lights up. When I plug it in the little light for battery lights up so it is being charged. Still it doesn't turn on. I tried to look for some answers but I don't have removable battery and everyone advices to remove it. Please help me I am desperate :(

Answer:Laptop Lenovo Y50-70 won't turn on

Although the charger shows a green light does not mean it is charging. have someone check out the charger.
If no one about to look at your charger you can buy a little multimeter from eBay for £5 and check it yourself. if you do not know how to do it google it and you should get a youtube video showing how to do it.
it is possible that you have not had it for 1 year yet if so it will still be under warranty so maybe think of taking it back to where you bought it from or contact them first.

Hello,  I've got a Lenovo G580 which I've had a for a little while now. It was working OK on Saturday but I tried it this morning but it wont turn on. I've tried a different power supply and I've tried it with and without the battery. When I plug the charger in the the batter light comes on but when I press the power button nothing happens. If I were to guess I'd say that there is something wrong with the power button but just wondered if this is a known problem or if it can be something else.  Your help is much appreciated.  Thanks

Hello. The problem is that when I try to shut down the system it seems to work. Windows 8.1 exits, the screen turns off but the fan is still working, and probably so is the HDD. It does not matter how long I wait, nothing changes. The only way to turn it off ultimately is to hold POWER button but this will damage my HDD.I hope you guys have any solution for this issue.Thank you in advance.

So, here is the problem; On my laptop when suddenly it just turned off. I tried to turn it back on, but it starts for about two seconds and makes the sound as if I held down the power button and then turns off.I have already tried:disconnecting everything and holding down the power button for 30 seconds and 1 minute then turning it back on.Turing it on while only using the charger for a battery source.Shining a light on the screen to see if there is anything that comes on in the background... not a thing. My charges says on the back:AC/DC ADAPTERMODEL: PA-1900-56LCLENOVO P/N:36001652INPUT: 100-240V~1.5A (1,5A)50-60HzOUTPUT: 20V [then it has a long line, with three dots under it] 4.5A(4,5A) [then some diagram with a plus and a minus sign]CAUTION: For use with Information Technology Equipment Only Then the rest isn't in English. The reason why this is a suspect to the murder of my laptop is because i got it two days ago, and it was plugged in when this started happening.Any suggestions?

hi Ccrooks,

Thank you for Using Lenovo Community Forums!

Is this a replacement AC charger already?
This Ac is meant for Y series but it has the right input/output properties so this Ac could not harm your computer.

Have you tried Plugging this in to other Power outlet and this AC has a Removable Power cord (The cord that plugs to the wall) if you have other devices there that has a power cord that fits you can try that also.

Check when you use the battery and plug the AC in, your computer should have an indicator if its charging even if the computer is OFF

Last if you have other laptop AC that has this same Output: (20V) (3.25A or 4.5A)  and same +/- polarity icon
like this:Try if it will be able to power you System.

In case you have to Purchase a new one the get any of these AC from:
www.lenovospareparts.com or from thirdparty resellers

I have a Lenovo Yoga 3 bought in Oct 2015 that will not turn on. I have tried pressing the power button for 30 seconds and also for one minute and then trying topower up and it doesn't work. I took it to a repair shop and they removed the battery and reinserted it and nothing happened.  This is the second major problem I have had with this machine since I bought it. The first issue was a faulty touch screen that required it being sent in for repair. Now 6 months later this power problem shows up. This is extremely disappointing as I felt I did good research before I decided to buy this machine. Any suggestions before I go out and buy something other than a Lenovo product? Thanks!

I was messing around on my lenovo c340 and the update needed pop-up came up, so I pressed restart, and the computer turned off. I waited about a half an hour for it to turn back on, or show anything, and it didn't, so I went over and pressed the power switch (it was dark, meaning it was off) to turn it on. Nothing happened, so I tried again, nothing. I checked all the plugs, and everything was properly connected, so I tried unplugging the cord and plugging it into a different outlet. Still nothing. I decided to wait about 4 hours and try it again, which I did. Nothing. I have tried holding the button down, resetting the fuse and everything. Please help.

Answer:Lenovo c340 will not turn on?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the problems.  Try clearing the CMOS to see if the system will then start up.  Just do this......
1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 3. Plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

I tried everything starting from taking the battery out and I even made sure that the AC adapter was not faulty. I noticed that there is no light indicator as well when I connected the AC adapter to the laptop so I'm assuming that the problem lies elsewhere from the power supply .. Please advise because I wasn't able to make any backups plus I have urgent matters which require my laptop to deal with

Hello, so I have a Lenovo think pad x240 as issued by my high school and I was using it last night and tried to power down by pressing the power button as I was in a rush but that did not work so I shut it down normally and now I am trying to turn it on and pressing the power button is not working, it definately has battery because I plugged it in overnight so I think the power button may be faulty, I have only had the laptop for 2 years. And yes I have tried the "secret code" trick but that does not work - presumably because my laptop also has an internal battery.I need help asap!!!!! Thanks in advance

Answer:Lenovo X240 Won't turn on

Hi nstock98,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Kindly request you to try with the below given troubleshooting steps.
Remove the battery and AC adapter
Remove the hard drive and wlan/wwcan cards
Remove both RAM modules
Re attach the AC adapter and boot
If you don't hear a series of loud beeps it probably means a hardware issue.

Please let me know whether the above steps helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

Hello, My Y580 is less than a year old and still under warranty. It has been working great this whole time, but recently I shut the computer down and then when I tried to turn it back on it wouldn't turn on. The keyboard backlight comes on, but I don't hear the fans spinning and the screen is blank. I have tried taking the battery out and holding down the power button for 2 minutes and then attempting to turn it on using ac power only and it won't turn on. I've also attempted to connect an external monitor and nothing there either. The machine is completely unresponsive except for the keyboard light coming on and the cd drive making a noise like it is initializing. I have tried to turn it on and off repeatedly and it is the same problem everytime. Not sure what else to try. Any idea what might be going on? Lenovo Y580Core i7 and GTX660M

Answer:Lenovo Y580 Won't Turn On

My Y580 goes through a cycle of auto-on/crash to the point where it can't be booted anymore. This happens when its solely on battery(no DC power). But its been a long time that I've encounterd this as my 'fix' was to keep the laptop plugged in always or take out the battery when theres no power.I thought if the lid was shut, the auto power-on/shut cycle won't happen, and gave it a try. After ~2days it wouldn't power on! I tried taking out the HDD & powering on.Previously a msg: "No bootable Device" would appear, this time nothing showed! I came to this forum, did the 35seconds thing, nothing happened! I panicked, mulling servicing. In final desperation, I increased the 30 seconds to  > 1 minute. It worked! hopefully things would be smooth from now.
