I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:lenovo y500 Wont boot up, Power Button light on,Backlit Light on,Fan Blowing Fast 5sec all is OFF

Hi Wacky78900,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Y500 Laptop is not turning ON after playing game and turning OFF manually, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and check the issue. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

If the issue persists even after performing the Flee-Power and as the computer is in warranty, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance. Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Do post us back for further queries.

Best Regards

So I am on vacation and was charging all of my accessories off of my laptop via USB (camera, phone, battery) since I only have one AC adapter and I closed the lid and when I reopened it it would not turn back on or come out of sleep mode. The power button light is on and stays on and the power light on the front stays on. I tried to reset, no luckPulled the battery overnight and tried to start it, no luckTried to start it without battery on AC, no luck Any thoughts? Is it fried? Why are those lights coming on then? Thanks in advance.

Hello people, an hour ago I put my Lenovo 510p into energy save mode. When I tried to reactivate the laptop nothing happens. I removed the batterie and the power cord, put everything back in and hit the power button: The power button and the "on" LED on the front shines (continuously) but nothing else happens. No booting sound, no keyboard LED, no nothing. Removing the battery and power cord, pressing power button 10 times in a 1 second interval, then holding it for 30 seconds hasnt helped. Any tips what I can do furthermore? GreetingsDix

My laptop was working fine yesterday, charging and powering on an off normally. It updated without my telling it to. When it was complete (since it said don't turn computer off until finished) I either just shut the lid or I shut it down when it was done. This morning when I wake up and try to turn it on it won't power up. Then I noticed that the power button was blinking, like it is in sleep mode, tried pressing 10 times then holding down power button for 30-60 seconds and still nothing. Next I saw that although the power is plugged in the battery light won't come on. I don't know if it is charging (it could be dead). I tried a bunch of different outlets and that isn't the issue. I also listened to the computer and there is a very soft high pichted noise that dissapears if you unplug it, and that when you hit the power button and it starts blinking, the sounds changes fom high to lower pitch and back again over and over. But no other sounds or fans kicking on or drive spinning. I am pretty sure it isn't the power cord but have no way of checking. And I can't remove the battery without voiding the warrenty. Anyone have any advice, besides calling to have Lenovo send me a box to send it back to Lenovo since it is only 4 months old and still under warrenty?

Answer:Lenovo Edge 15 laptop 80K9 battery light won't come on, power light blinks

Suggest you eliminate problem 1. Do you have spare power supply unit? Worth trying that first. Your battery may be in sleep mode and won't wake up as battery is drained and hence needs charging. 2. You can go to local retailer and suspect a good one (John Lewis) will let you charge it for 30 mins. Ideally go back to person you bought it from. 3. Once you are in use restore to go back to last working point. I have to telll you the support from Lenovo and Microsoft was very very very disappointing. I tried to even return the PC and swop for HP as mine is only 2 months old. However, the answer was send back to Lenovo. Hope you find a way to get it charged

I have a T60P that's increasingly getting worse - to the point that I can't get it to turn on now. The product ID is 2613CTO I've used known good power supplies, but don't have a way to test the battery. If I plug in the power supply with the battery plugged in I get no lights.  And it won't turn on. If I remove the battery I still get no lights. With the battery still removed I can plug in the power supply and get a momentary battery light and the power light stays on. If I hit the power button in this state the power light  goes out and does not come back on until I remove and reinsert the power cord. With the power light on I can insert the battery, but both lights will go off if I hit the power button. I can leave it for hours with the power and battery lights on, but when I hit the power button both lights go off. So this doesn't sound like any sort of fuse issue, it's not the AC power supply or the battery - it should run without the battery. That leaves some sort of internal power problem.  Is there a power board that can be replace or is this circuitry on the motherboard?

Answer:T60P power light goes out when I hit power switch

Welcome to the forum!

Try this old trick:

Remove the battery, hard and media drives. Unplug the AC adapter.

Press the "power" button ten times in a row holding it down for 10 seconds each time and 30 seconds the last time around.

Plug the AC adapter - but nothing else - back in and try to power on.

Should this fail, your T60p most likely needs a new motherboard.

Good luck.

On my brother-in-laws PC when the power swith is pressed all that happens is the light on the switch flashes and the CPU fan starts and speeds up and slows down, it does not even get to post screen.I have tried it on a different monitor, tried a different memory stick, unplugged everything except the memory but still no post screen and I have tried a different PSU.

Answer:Light on power switch just flashes

Hmmm - Sounds like your motherboard may have gone for a burton. Try removing and reseating the RAM, you could try removing and reseating the CPU, but if you do that remember you will need to reapply some thermal paste or a pad.It may be worth first however, resetting the CMOS using the jumper - it probably won't do anything, but I have managed to bring a couple of computers in the same state back to life by doing this.

Hello;

A friend gave me an old switch he had found, however it seems to be broken.
It's a d-link des-3526 managed 24-port switch.

The power light is blinking, and it does not have any lights light up when cables are plugged in, neither on the computers network card or on the switch.

The network cable is good, it works with a different switch, and I have tried using a different power cord.

Any way to get this working?

Answer:Switch Power light Blinking

Anything on the serial console?

Assuming the blinking indicates a fault, it's probably not something you're going to be able to repair yourself, but the console may indicate what the fault is.

My computer was down when I came back from lunch and could not get it to come back on.  If I hold the power button down for about 7 seconds it blinks orange but there is not noise from the fan coming on or post beep.  Also the green light on the back is not on either. All of the other equipment sharing the same power strip come on but not the desktop so it is not the power strip.  I also tried to set it up in another office on a completely different circuit and still does the same thing. What should I try next?

Answer:OptiPlex 790 Wont power on power light blinks amber

Which form factor, desktop, mini-tower, small form, ultra-small form?
From the (desktop) manual: Blinking amber light indicates a problem with the system board.
Are any of the 4 diagnostic LEDs on when it won't boot? ,They're on the front of the PC next to the power button. Look up error codes in the manual.
Possible power supply failure if the green light is off on the back. Can you try a different power cord? What happens if you push the power supply diagnostic button on back of PC next to that (green) power light?

Daughter last used laptop on battery power and ran id down completely until computer shut off. She plugged in the power cord and it would not come on when pressing the power button.  Laptop was plugged in overnight and this morning same issue - the power light just blinks five times when you press the power button. This is the same behaviour whether plugged into power or not. I've tried holding down the power button. Tried with battery removed and A/C power, but then no light comes on at all.  I've tried removing the battery and A/C power, holding the power button down for 30 seconds, then install battery and plug in A/C power, but no difference.  I tried a different A/C power adapter and no difference. Any ideas?

battery is inside "sealed" and may be difficult to access.

if the ac plug is unplugged then i can get the led to turn off but once pushed, it ony flashes. no results

warranty is expired.
unit manufactured april 23 2015

i currently have it plugged in but no flashing light as i have not pushed the power button. im hoping that it will take a charge or correct itself with time.

what do you suggest? thank you

Answer:i have a lenovo edge 15 model80k9. led power light is blinking but computer will not repond. no power up . the battery is "s

Try the following...

1. Take out (or take it off) the charger.
2. Next take out the battery
3. Now hold down power button for 20 seconds and then rinsert battery.
4. Now put it on the charger again

NOTE: Make sure charger is plugged into the main power supply (not an extension cord, surge protector, etc.)

Sometimes, when the device is not plugged in directly, it doesn't get the power it needs. Holding the power button, while you restart it, clears out the temporary ram (no it won't delete anything you have saved) and will give the device access to the ram it needs.

Hi folks,

My Satellite PRO 4600 of 2002 doesn't turn on anymore.
It shows a flashing amber light when I press the Pwr On switch...
I'm an electrotecnic, so you can explain me the problem.... thanks :)

Answer:Satellite Pro 4600 amber light flashing if I press the power switch

It sounds like a mainboard problem?

Try to remove the AC/DC adaptor and battery and then wait one hour. Connect the AC/DC adaptor and the battery. Now try it again.

Does this happen if with battery and/or AC adaptor?

Went to turn on my Lenovo Ideapad Y410p laptop and nothing happened! No led lights with power source on and battery in. When I used it two days ago, I ran AVG and spy-bot and everything was fine. Used it a little bit and turned it off. Now nothing??? Did the power/battery disconnect with holding power button for 30 seconds... nothing. Both batteries 9 cell and 6 cell had full charge, tried my other Lenovo charger... no go. A surge couldn't have happened as the laptop is plugged into same strip as my other lenovo laptop is and that one is working fine.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Y410p won't power on... No power light?

Hi jack61 ,

Greetings.

We now know, power drain failed. No LED error codes , No beep codes
No activity lights even with battery charging led.
Not turning on even with known good charged batteries.
No power even with known good ac adapter.

What we can try:
Try plugging it directly on the wall and press novo key (number 1 page 7) to turn it on instead.
Check if the power port shows any signs of burnt / damage / looseness .
Press Novo key using a charged battery.
Remove battery, harddrive , memory and other accessories and plug directly with a known working adapter and or with a charged battery ( it should at least beep).

If all fails , you can have it checked for the motherboard issue with a technician (checking on the internals /cleaning or reseating parts connected to the board / applying thermal paste (for processor isolation) / checking on dc in board and port).

You can check for your warranty here and call in tech support for service.

Regards

Last night my computer blue screened about 3 times then it just stopped turning on altogether. Wheni plug the power supply into the motherboard the neon fan turns on for a milisecond but that seems to be the only way that i can tell that there's power going to the motherboard.

I've tried 4 different power supplies, different processor, different BIOS batteries, different RAM, etc, but no matter how many times i try to turn it on it just wont turn on.

I do recall doing something innthe BIOS last night which seemed to start this dilemer. I went into power management and did something to the power switch option, then set everything back to default settings.

This is when things started to happen then my pc just wouldn't turn on at all.

It's a socket939 MSI CoreCell.

Could something i did in the BIOS really be causing this problem and is there a way to fix it?

Like i said there does seem to be power going to the motherboard but it simply wont turn on (i even tried different power switches just in [email protected]

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to buy another 939 motherboard as most shops don't cell them any more and it means i'd have to buy a new processor too.

Answer:Computer wont turn on with power switch but there is power going through it?

If it is a BIOS setting, removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes should clear it. Since you've already changed the battery more than once, it would seem that is not the problem. Considering what you already tried, it might be the motherboard itself or possibly the graphics card but my money is on the motherboard. Just to be sure do you have another graphics card to test with?

Hello Guys,I have HP dv6 pavilion series with Windows 10 (64 bit) for 4 years now. I dont have the Battery so I usually work with directly connecting the Power cable. It worked fine till now. Today it abruptly Shut down and since then its not booting. The Charging light keeps on Blinking.I have tried the 40/30 sec trick (holding thepower on button for 30-40 secs for the capacitors to discharge) twice, but in vain. I also cleaned up my cooling fan and checked for all the wiring, its all intact. After re-essembling the laptop, the same problem persists. And about the Bios update, I do think I have the latest bios updated, as my laptop is connected with internet, and I usually keep it all Updated. And if someone recommends me to Update the BIOS, well I cannot power on my laptop, so is there any alternative for updating the BIOS? Earlier it did Abruptly Shutdown twice or thrice over last few days, but used to Power up again. But today it wont work. Please Help Me guys. Thanks

My inspiron one 2305 has just quit working.   On power up, the power switch glows a steady amber.  The fans come on and you can hear the HD start to spin up and run.  No video, splash screen, or anything else.  No POST beeps, either.   A possible cause was the LCD inverter, but I've just installed a new one and that did not fix the problem.  External power supply appears to be functioning normally.   I suspect the motherboard is gone.    And the warranty is long expired, of course.
Apparently this issue is a common one for the 2305 and a result of defective design on Dell's part.    Quite a few other people are experiencing the same problem.   Anyone else run across this and fixed it?

I have a LeNovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD, Model Name 80QQ, purchased Feb 2015. When I try to power it up, the power light comes on and the battery light comes on, but there's no fan and the screen is black. If I press and hold the power button for 10 seconds (with the lights on) the lights go off again, which I presume is doing a hard power down. I have tried removing the AC power and the battery (which involves taking the keyboard off first!), leaving it an hour, pressing and holding the power button several times for 20 seconds each, then plugging the battery and AC back in and powering up - but the symptoms are unchanged - power light, battery light, no fan, black screen. I have tried the "One Key Recovery" procedure using the Novo key - this produces the same symptoms as a normal power up - power light and battery light come on, but no screen and no fan. Any suggestions? I'm still in warranty so worst case I can send it off to get it fixed, but I'd rather find a way to fix it myself and not have to send it away.

Hello
Bit of a long 1 this.A while ago I had a problem with the power connector on my laptop. When I opened it up I could see the little jack had come away from the mother board,so a bit of soldering was in order,it did the trick and it worked fine. Then the same problem again so out with the solder. Now when I plug in the power adaptor the green indicator light comes on but when I press the power button it wont turn on,the harddrive doesnt spin the fan doesnt kick in NOTHING.If I remove the battery and just try to power the laptop with the adaptor the power light doesnt even come on,its the same if I just try to power it with the battery.I have replaced the CMOS battery but its the same deal.I have been reading up on this and it seems it could be any number of things. The laptop is the I series 1200 type 1161.There isnt any additional memory sticks installed so I dont think it could be that.I would really apreciate any help on this as it really is doing my head in.Cheers

Answer:Thinkpad I series 1200 power light on but wont turn on

It sounds like you went a little too solder-happy and over-soldered something causing a short or something like that. Not sure but I'd suggest you go back and check for that possibility....on the other hand a hw component might be in need of replacing?

Good Luck.

Hi all, We are a school and recently have bought 34 of the above Thinkcentres for an IT suite. Unfortuantely 7 now are displaying the above issues. To recap: The screen is blank, but if you screen change mode it says on the screen it is in PC mode (so screen works)The mouse and keyboard are dead and yes they are plugged in!The green power light (bottom right hand side)  is constant green even if you reboot (5 second finger) it still is constant green when it come back, never orange and the machine does no start. Fan is operating. There is power to the machine that IS on. I have swapped out the power cables and mice, put the "faulty" mice onto another machine and they have all worked, but not when you place then on these 7 machines. If any of you techies could figure this out that would be great, it would be a shame if we had to warranty return 7 Lenovo machines due to being faulty..   Thanks all Andy

Hi Lenovo4g510i5,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with power in your Lenovo G510 laptop.

Perform the power drain, to perform please disconnect all the external devices connected to the system shut down the machine and remove battery and adapter. Now press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. Now connect the battery and turn on the system and check for the issue.

This is to drain the static charge as the LED might be due to the static charge.

So several months ago my laptop started to have a problem where periodically the power light would begin flashing as well as the charging light. The power light would blink a while color that it normally is and the charging light would blink orange. When this happens the battery will stop charging, but will occasionally resume if I unplug and replug the power. I don't think this is a battery related problem because if I try to boot up my latpop without the battery in, it will get half way through then it will just shut off. I should note that when the battery is plugged in I have the flashing light problem during start up but it will usually be fixed with unplugging and replugging the power cord a time or two. This is a really frustrating problem and really limits what I can use my laptop for these days and I'd like to see if it's something that can be fixed at a reasonable cost.

Answer:Lenovo y570 power button light problem

hi Stefy333,

Welcome to the Forums.

From your description, it looks like there's a problem with the Sensor Board (this is the area where power and touch buttons are located).

You can try to reseat the sensor board to isolate any possibliity of a loose connection but if this doesn't work, you may need to replace this part.

The problem is in the thread title; normally my PS_SW light stays a solid yellow and I'm able to boot up no problem. After moving my computer around the house a bit, when I plugged everything in the light was flashing yellow and is now unable to boot up. All the build information (including motherboard info) is in my profile. I looked through the manual for my motherboard (available here: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-Z77X-UD5H (rev. 1.0) ) and it was totally useless. It does not seem to be blinking in any pattern, just a steady blink on and off. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated--I'm really out of my depth here.

Answer:Motherboard power light (PS_SW) is flashing and system wont boot up

Check inside the computer to see if any connections came loose or unplugged.

Greetings,

I purchased my Toshiba Satelight l775 brand new 7 months ago, this is so crazy. It wont power on, i use the laptop plugged to adapter 4 to 8 hours a day, then the laptop goes unused and unplugged for 16 to 20 hours a day.

This is my 3rd laptop, i know i've put more strain on the previous two (HP and Acer). I've never had a laptop go out on me this quick, even that $300 acer laptop went through more strain and never went out in the 15 months i had it.

My backup laptop is a 4 year old HP, i've had it for 4 years, its been dropped several times, used and abused still going! i just had to upgrade ram and hard drive. But, this Toshiba! she was so beautiful when I saw her!

I've never dropped her, never spilled anything on her, so why is she putting me through this stress at a bad time???

A bad time because even though i'm under warranty, i'm going on vacation in 2 days!!! I need her, i'm not trying to take my old HP that came out in 2008.

I can't afford to send my Toshiba off for 2 weeks, not right now.

Today, my virus software was doing its typical scheduled scan, i didn't have the laptop charging, because i was off of work, so when i'm off the laptop gets used more and charged more. I look at the laptop and its off, i just figured, O....my battery died, let me plug in the adapter and do some reading. Well nothing ever happened. 8 hours later, i've been working on this for over 8 hours, i've searched all over google, many forums, none ... Read more

Yep its Satans computer, The Dell from *censored*.We have pieced it together and got it running well, you and I, and now we haveA 500 gig Sata drive1 gig RAMWIN XP SP3 (Clean install )Pentium 4 Dual CoreE 210882 MOBO So I tried to run a game to see how it goes, Sim City 3000, and it plays that game well. The computer has developed a habit of turning itself off.So far, it has been idle when doing so, (that I can think of.)(I wonder if it just a hibernation setting)Thats good enough if it just a setting, however it wont restart from the power button on the front of the computer. I have to remove the power cord and replace it to get it to start into windows again???Being a clean install I can understand that I may not have all the settings right yet, but there is a second.. well... problem... I suppose, and that is that the computer doesnt load CD's,(Autoplay) when I put them in the drive.Music or Data.I have to go to Start Run Browse.... etc..  to get a Cd to run.Are these just settings that I havent personalized or do you see them as problems with the computer?Any thoughts are welcome.Thank you.

Answer:Computer switches off and wont restart from power switch.

First of all, I would check to see if the problem is temperature related.Download and install Speed Fan.When you run it, post the temperature readings when the computer is idle, and when you about 10 minutes into a resource-intensive game. (Sims City would work).I found this as well (for your CD Problem)http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000130.htm

I have a p2 compaq deskpro the power switch wont work. its is turned of in bios when i press del or f1 it tells me keyboard error can any one help me please. how do i get into bios.

Answer:p2 compaq deskpro power switch wont work.

Check to see if the keyboard is plugged in correctly.

If so, try another keyboard on the computer.

With the keyboard that's giving you a problem, make sure there is nothing stuck underneath the keys of the keyboard. Turn it upside down and give it a couple of whacks to see if anything falls out (like staples...). Or, you could take a look at this website for instructions on how to take the keys off the keyboard to clean it.

Hi, My lenovo g505s has stooped charging and both battery and power tlights are on (white ) when Ac power is not plugged in. When I plugged in AC power both light will start blinking (power white battery orange). Is it a software problem or problem with the pin of power. My battery and charger are working fine.(checked on another laptop). Please help out.

Answer:Lenovo G505s Not charging both battery and power light are white.

From your service manual (available on the Support tab for your notebook) ... it says that your blinking while is sleep mode, the blinking amber indicates charging battery.  If your lights are fast blinking (less than one second apart) it may mean something different.

Would try removing battery and AC adapter, press and hold power button for 30 seconds then release.  Reinstall battery and AC power then start the notebook using power button.  Run Lenovo diagnostics and have it check the battery for faults.

Good luck.

Answer:Lenovo B590 Laptop Power Light Flashing Orange

Good day and welcome to the community.

Please have a look at page 7 of your B590 User Guide:
http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/b490_b43xx_b590_ug_en.pdf
for a description of the color / blink 'codes'.

Basically, a slow orange blink means that the battery is between 5 and 20% charged (and charging). It should change to a slow green blink at 20%.

Hope this helps a bit.
Regards.

Hi
I'm building a new PC using an old Lenovo Type 8975 /model 7MG case, into which I'm puting a new AsRock 939A790GMH motherboard. All going well until I get to the front system panel connector which at first glance looked compatible but isnt. I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction?
The pins on the motherboard are for a 10 pin connector block as is the Lenovo FRU 41N5284 power switch/led connector but the blank is in the wrong place compared with the motherboard and the number of pins actually wired is less on the Lenovo, only 6 wired, compared with 9 'used' pins on the board. So I'm going to have to get some 2 pin connectors and wire it it up bit by bit unless I can find a compatible connector for the AsRock m/board and cross wire everything. The main problem is I cant find a wiring diagram for the Lenovo power switch . I have black and yellow coming from the combined power switch/reset button, green and black coming from the power neon and another yellow and black coming from another neon, (not sure what that neon is for-HDLED presumably....).
The motherboard has pins for PLED+,PLED-,PWRBTN#,GND,HDLED+,HDLED,GND,RESET#,DUMMY

Also as there is no seperate reset button on the Lenovo power switch/led assembly, how can I get the reset to work on the AsROck board using this switch?

Any advice as to correct configuration/significance of wiring colouring/tips as to easiest way forward much appreciated!
Thanks

Answer:Solved: Lenovo power switch wiring configuration help please!

The easiest thing would be to get another case.

If that's not possible connect the yellow and black from the power button to the PWRBTN and the GND next to it. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which pin.

If there is only one switch in the power button and therefore only 2 wires coming from it you can't have a reset unless you add another switch somehow.

If that case has a PSU are you sure it's compatible with that Mobo ?

Hi, hope anyone can help me. I own a lenovo b560 and a g470, the sleep light will blink when I go to sleeping mode, anyway the problem is not the light, the problem is the whining sound it produces the power adapter when the light start blinking, in both machines I hear that whining noise, but in the g470 is much louder, I donīt know if this is because I have a faulty adapter or something, the strange thing is that both adapters make the noise when I sleep the laptop, when I turn off or hibernate the whining sound disappear. Also, I notice that the whining sound alternate in 2 types of sounds, one is high in pitch and the other lower, the high pitch is when the blinking light turn on when go to sleep and the lower pitch of the sound is when the light go off, and that is repeating until I resume the laptop, itīs very annoying, especially when Iīm in a quiet room. So my theory is that maybe somehow I can turn off the blinking light when the laptop goes to sleep and then maybe the whining sound will go away, but I donīt know, itīs only an a idea. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks !

Hello friends, I have been struggling with my 4 year Lenovo Z580 ideapad that abruptly getting turned Off within 45/50 seconds of every power On. It's just instant and with small click noise. Upon continuous attempts i used to get very rare successful boots (keeping itself turned on even for hours/full day) upon 20/30 power on attempts with varying time intervals. Meanwhile i managed to run lenovo diags basic/extended on all peripherals with no errors, and managed to repair broken win 10 system/boot files couple of times thinking its BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO as it used to prompt earlier when it last powered on atleast for 2 minutes, But since couple of days its ALWAYS switching off within a Minute! Upon a lot of research i thought it could be since corrupted BIOS (might be caused by overheating CPU and fan not working for couple of weeks!) and as it also getting off upon simple DOS boots. So today, i decided to flash BIOS and followed instructions in a mail chain (https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Lenovo-Z580-BIOS-Mod-V3-1-FINAL-02-07-DOWNLOAD) as can't boot Win 10 anymore, Started flashing BIOS-Mod-V3-1... via a USB stick i prepared, though i'm quite fearful about an abrupt shutdown! My fate, it got powered off during flash progress just when FPT client erased my current BIOS and when about to write new files **bleep**! As a result it seems i lost current/damaged BIOS and now if i try to boot, it starts with black screen! a new gift. Ofcourse i'm able to s... Read more

If your power control switch isn`t working anymore BUT you didn`t unistall it or erase some of his files, chances are that over time some software/update took control of some setting used by the Lenovo switch. If this is the case, before reinstalling the software, try the following:1 - Check your power plan option, if is on something else than Lenovo  change your power plan option (scheme) to Lenovo Power Scheme.2 - Access your pc advanced startup setting (win+x) check for the services LitModeCtrl and LenovoComService and set the two services to automatically start when the computer startsup. If it`s not working 99% is because some software (the most common is Samsung SSD Magician) has set the two to "Manual". Change to "Auto".3 - Reboot and the Power control switch software will be working again. I wonder why no one from Lenovo advice this, but i`ve had to find a solution myself after countless hit & miss attempts.

My Laptop turned off out of no were when i wasent looking at it, when i tried to turn it on i heard a boom sound but it was quiet. Then i started to smell some thing weird. And when i go online and check if my laptop has warranty, it doesent detect anything.  But i recently got a email saying that i have 15 days of warranty. But i think the website doesent want to work with the serial number.  I have another question, does opening the back cover void waranty ?? I had opened it to just take a look at it and check if i saw anything burned.  So when i click on the power button, the fans wont turn on just the lights. I need help as soon as possible because i need a fast answer my warranty is almost void !

Answer:Lenovo y50 70 Wont Turn On Only POwer

Hi AmericanFighter ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The burnt smell and the boom noise heard before the issue is an important event that should be notified with the technical support team.

As some SN may not show readily on the warranty look up page at the moment due to some changes in the server  you may call in Lenovo tech for an immediate identification and recommendation for repair on the issue or you can send me a private message to check the warranty for you (don't post the SN as it should be kept confidential).

As per opening the cover to investigate , this would not void the warranty as long as no damage during the process as commonly done on customer upgrades similar to this discussion. Issue may either be the power port , systemboard and heatsink and fan needed to be serviced,

Hello Jonny

Those buttons are controlled by ?Toshiba Button Support? utility and this utility is part of Value Added Package. To be honest I don't know if there is some way to enable/disable the buttons functionality but if you want you can try to do follow:

Remove preinstalled VAP from the system (Control Panel > Programs and Features), restart the notebook and install latest VAP for your notebook model listed on Toshiba Support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads.

Please let me know if everything works well again.

This feature used to be everywhere but now i cant seem to make it work.  There is no bios option to wake on lan and the only thing i see is in Win7 NIC driver which doesnt work if windows is not running (aka power has been lost).  Is there a firmware/bio patch or a utility / procedure i can use to get remote wakeup using magic packet (WOL) to work after power has been lost? Please help as i really hate having to drive to my laptop after a power outage just to turn it back on againHomey

Answer:Lenovo wont wake on lan from a s5 (after power outage)

hey homeydagreat, could you go to the Device Manager > Network Adapters , right click the network adapter of yours.Does it have the tab call Power Management? If it does the WOL option is here.If it isnt there, could you uninstall the current driver that is installed and then go to >>http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=818067and reinstall the driver.

Answer:Thinkpad T400 Wi-Fi activity Light wont light up

Hi Matt,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Is only the Wifi LED indication is not showing or all the LED indication not showing?

Best regards,

dell xps m2010 wont start up ,blue power light and bluetooth light stay on,i have been searching posts in other forums as well as this one and i thought i`d narrowed it down to the graphics card,i was right to an effect,my approach was to take the xps apart following dells website documents, while i had the top (dvd drive) off ,i noticed that the graphics card screws were really loose (this was my first job)...i tightened these. The top(dvd drive ) i re-connected ,but propped it up at an angle so i could still see motherboard and parts,(warning!be carefull!!)electric!! ...attached power cable and pressed power button after half a dozen times pressing this it came to life.I noticed my fans were working and thought this might not be my motherboard after all ,no overheating happening...then it froze on windows xp ??it was a start !another 6 to ten times pressing power button it worked again this time not freezing.went into bluetooth with usb mouse and paired keyboard ,made system restore point and restarted .It took maybe 4 times with it being glitchy(freezing ..not powering up) ,but when it does load xp without freezing try restarting windows xp and then it eventually finds its feet!!!my xps 2010 is running ok now.jimb

Hi. Tonight I had a problem with my laptop. It was in sleeping mode, and when I open the lid there were no mouse function and no touch screen function. So the only thing I could do was to press the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off, but it didn't completely, because the screen turn off, but the power button light is blinking just like when it is on sleep mode, and I'm not sure if the hard drive light was on, off or blinking before this, but now is blinking. I press the power button and nothing happen, I press it for 3 seconds and nothing happen. I even did the HDMI connection to another monitor, but both monitors don't show anything, not even recognize that something is connected to the HDMI port in the new monitor. There is no sound, nothing, just the 2 blinking lights. What should I do? Thanks PS: I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. It was upgraded from Windows 8

I will turn it on and after a minute or two the monitor goes to power save mode and the hard disk light goes from off/blinking to solid on and the power light stays on.

I have reinstalled the operating system and i thought that fixed it. I had SP 1 i installed all of my updates and SP2 and it starting to do it again (it will do it in SP1 but not nearly as often or when i run a flash heavy program: PSP Video or even the Scion website).

It will not do it at all in BIOS as i did every test on the diagnostics page for my hard drive (all pass) though if it turns off it usually turns on and runs dskchk and it wont stay on for that

In safe mode it is also fine it will not turn off once

I dont know what i did last as it was fine then i was gone for a month and I had it unplugged etc., came back hooked it up and it started doing it after a little while

I have taken a can of air to every inch, switched the Flat cord going to the HDD from the Motherboard.

All fans run fine

Thats all i can think of right now ask me anything else you need to know

I'll give this forum a couple of days/a week maybe then i'll take it to a local shop to diagnose it

Much thanks to anyone who has any idea's

Hello,
Was experiencing general issues with my windows profile after windows updates last patch Tuesday so I initiated a system restore and let it run today.  After completion laptop turned off (instead of rebooting?)

Pressing the power button: Power button turns white (on) for ~30 seconds, then laptop turns off (indicated by power button light)
no fans
no screen (back-light or otherwise)
no POST codes - beep codes or light codes.
no other visible activity

During that period nothing else happens, unless I press the power button again. If I do this
The fans spin up momentarily
The system then powers off (as indicated by the white power light)

I've tried:

Disconnect power/battery and hold power button (60 seconds)
Power system on with just battery
Power system on with just wall power
Remove mSATA HD and repeat the above
Disconnect video connector and repeat above
Remove mPCI WiFi module and repeat above
Completely disassemble and remove CMOS battery (tested at 3.1 VDC) for 60 seconds, reassemble and repeat above

All with no change in behavior

I am able to get a light code 2 Amber / 3 White if I remove the RAM module (as expected)
D + PWR diagnostics cycle successfully through a range of colors then nothing

Laptop is 2 months out of warranty.  Any help debugging the issue is appreciated!

I have been using the Blue Light Reduction feature of the Lenovo Settings app for months and it is really useful in cutting down blue light at night and it makes it easier to sleep at night after working on my computer.  Looks like there was a recent software update and I no longer see any option to enable the Blue Light Reduction feature in the Lenovo Settings utility.  Has anyone else experienced this? How can I fix this and reenable Blue Light Reduction in the Lenovo Settings app?

This just started happening recently. The power indicator light (near the power plug) does not turn on and Windows does not recognize when the adapter is plugged in; the power icon and cusomized power saving "on battery" behavior reflect that. HOWEVER, the battery does charge. The "lightning bolt" charging light on the front between HDD and system power lights comes on and the battery recharges if not at 100%. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this? Is it more likely a Windows or hardware problem? The BIOS does not have the power adapter test mentioned here, and I could not find the software download for the Smart Adapter functionality (this laptop was installed with clean, non-OEM OS, so any OEM software had to be added manually). Thanks in advance,Kyle

alright, I just got this inspiron 6000 from my sister that didnt work. she said nothing would happen at all. well it turned out the power light would go on, caps lock light blink for a few seconds and it would turn off. somehow the memory wasnt in the slot very well. bam, got it working, dumped all her pics and crap to a external hdd, and wanted to wipe it all out and start over. she is sending me a xp disc, but for now I just figured Id go back to 2k cuz I have that disc and when I get the disc go back to xp.

anyways, I couldnt figure out how to format the drive, because obviously xp was running off of it. anyways, I kept trying all the del - f2 - f8 - f12 to get a dos prompt before windos would load but I couldnt. so I figured Id just put the 2k disc in because I thought I remember that it formats it right before it installs. but it asked me where to install and the disk was partitioned and I wanted one drive letter so I cancelled the install, before it was actually installing though, said f3 to quit and I hit f3. now when I try to power it up, the power light comes on, the hdd light comes on for maybe 1-2 seconds max, then the cd drive light comes on and it spins up, then stops, and the screen just stays black, never did anything either. just black the whole time.

I cant use a floppy to try anything because no floppy drive. I tried starting up with the win2k disc in but doesnt work. I searched on my desktop running win2k and it showed a tutorial for making a usb flas... Read more

Answer:Windows XP, power light, hdd light for 1 sec, black screen

oh, also, i did try and search and most I found were a black screen after the self test or the windows logo, not right away.

also, dont think it matters, but when the lights go out, it is at the point where hitting the power button again, the computer instantly turns off.

also, just checked, and its nothing to do with the lcd. I just hooked up my monitor, and my monitor tells me when there is no signal, and it just stayed black, then when it was unplugged from the laptop that is when it said no signal.

Hello! I have been having this problem for about a week now, ever since I set my old computer back up in my room. The problem started when I left my computer alone for a while when I went out (the computer was working fine and I had just finished transfering pictures to my computer from my camera). I came back and the power light on the front if the case was on, but the battery light was off. The monitor had also gone into sleep mode. I turned off the computer since I knew whatever I was going had already been saved and exited out of, unplugged everything (including the monitor and PC/Monitor cable) and plugged it back in and turned them on. The monitor goes straight to power saving mode (sleep mode). The PC is definitely receiving power, the keyboard's caps and num lock keys flash, the wireless mouse's light flashes, the pc fans turn on, and both of the power and battery lights turn on. But, after a second, the battery light turns off, and the only light I can see through it is the power indicator's light bleeding through. The strange thing is, I've been able to get it to work before, about 2 times actually. Both of those successful boots happened either when I ignored the thing for so long or left it unplugged over night, but had already forgot it didn't work last time. But it did those times. So I tried to leave it unplugged all last night. Just woke up, and... still nothing. I really need to to get those pictures to my mom, so if someone could ple... Read more

Hello all, I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop. One day it just powered its self off while watching a video and now shows no signs of life. Wont power on, no lights when connected with a power supply, nothing. I have tested the power supply and tried another new one, and get the same result. So i don't think the battery/power supply is the issue. I have a feeling it's something more serious, the laptop is out of warranty and IBMs out of warranty repair costs are stupidly high. If anyone knows what might cause this problem, and if it is possible to repair with a replacement part (off ebay or somewhere), i am capable of dismantling the laptop and replacing a part. Thanks for any advice.

Answer:Lenovo 3000 N200 wont power on and shows no lights

Sounds serious. Some say remove memory and see if it gives any indicationof life, like any beeping on boot. Try without battery, try unplug, remove battery and hold downpower switch for 30 seconds and plug in again etc. Try remove hard drive, but it sounds like a dead motherboardif you get no sign of life after trying anything you can think of.

Good day sir/mam,            My laptop wont boot/ power up after the blue screen of death appeared this morning. I'm just browsing and all of the sudden the blue screen appeared and if i remember in the screen written "system error" and the laptop will restart. something like that. I cant really remembered the exact error. But im pretty sure it's BSOD.           When I tried to powered the laptop, the power light was on for about 1-2sec same with the fan, and then they will not continue or let's just say it will not power up. I did it many times but the result is just the same.           I also tried the solution on what i read here in the forum. "press and hold the power bottom for about 30sec". i tried it too many times but it wont work. Please help me LENOVO.  Thanks

Why would a computer take hours and days before a display? When the system is turn on very ofter the power light keeps blinking and the harddrive light is on but nothing shows on the monitor for hours or days and may not at all. Powering off and re-powering rarely helps it just have to be left alone and comes on whenever if ever.. Thanks for help

Answer:The power light keeps blinking and the harddrive light is on

Try a new signal cable from PC to monitor. If no change, try a new graphics card.If still no change, test the hard drive with "Seagate SeaTools for DOS".Click the "Download" tab here: http://www.seagate.com/support/down...The download is an ISO file, so you'll also need to install "IMGBurn" from here:http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn/Use IMGBurn to create a CD from the ISO file, then boot your faulty computer from it. The testing program will open. Select the hard drive and test it. If it fails the test you need to replace the hard drive. If hard drive passes the test it's okay, so test the RAM modules with "Memtest86" which is also an ISO file, so you need to create a CD from that too:http://www.memtest.org/
