Can I use Outlook 2010 as email client in W10 64?

Question: Can I use Outlook 2010 as email client in W10 64?

I have to move from my current email client 'Windows Live Mail 2012' as it will no longer work with Outlook.com.

Can I use the Outlook program in Office 2010, i.e. Outlook 2010?

If not what would you recommend as a free email client?

Both my wife and I currently use Hotmail accounts

Preferred Solution: Can I use Outlook 2010 as email client in W10 64?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey all

I just happily installed Win7 on my desktop and laptop. Included with that is Office 2010 Beta, which I want to use at least until October, when the trial expires.

I've decided to try and give all the stock MS programs a shot. I've become very irked by the fact that about six different companies offering two different suites with ten different programs in each suite, none of which compat well together, are what I get to sift through until I find my pick. I've currently been running Google Chrome and using GMail. Chrome is really nice, once I got used to the minimal interface. GMail, too, has long been a favorite of mine. However, I have Office and want to full utilize what I see as a great productivity suite, especially compared to Google's online suites, which seems to be still in the shaky ground of beta and new releases.

My issue is this: I've tried importing my GMail into Outlook, but there are a lot of discrepancies. Filters, for one, don't transfer from GMail into Outlook. I have like thirty messages in my inbox that should be in my school box. And I think trying to sync everything up would be a pain in the ass and need constant adjustment, especially since it's already been finnicky in the first day's use.

Is there some awesome way to get Outlook to recognize all my GMail settings? Or should I switch email clients (Which I'm fine to do. I just got a new phone, essentially a new laptop and desktop, and I'm moving, so why not go whole hog and change all... Read more

Answer:Outlook 2010...switch to other email client?

The best way of synchronising gmail and outlook is by the use of IMAP rather than POP3 access.

What this does is any actions performed at one location is duplicated in the other so if you have a rule operating in gmail the result is automatically reflected in Outlook and vice versa and the folder structure is also synchronised.

I actually find that gmails support for IMAP is not the best, (using tags rather than actual folders), but it does work.

A better Service for outlook/imap use is in my opinion Free Webmail and E-Mail by GMX | Sign Up Now!, which also looks more like outlook in use. you may want to have a look at this free service and as it has a mail collector, for your existing gmail account, can ease the transition

Good morning everyone,

So the other day something incredibly weird had occurred. I was receiving email normally on my phone, came into work, logged in, and began working on my trouble tickets. I noted that when I went back to Outlook to view an email, the email in particular was gone... and then all were gone. My folders, and emails within them, still remained the same. I attempted to research what on Earth happened but I haven't been able to find anything specific to my issue.

I'm using Outlook 2010 connected to an Exchange 2010 server for work. Outlook was setup as cached exchange mode but that has since been changed. The emails also disappeared from my phone's inbox too... it's as if everything was deleted and Exchange figured that's what it should be and synced everything that way. Deleting my OST didn't resolve or resync anything. I ran the scanpst tool on the ost file which reports 93 errors, but as I read the scanpst tool can't repair an OST and thus doesn't do anything.

Does Outlook have some sort of log that may explain what on Earth happened? I can't find any error messages or any other reasons for what may have happened. My view settings weren't changed, nothing has changed on my end. There is no spyware / malware installed on the PC as far as I can tell. No real issues in the Sync issues folder other than a Forms syncing issue which seems to be related to Exchange needing a patch (but can otherwise be ignored).

I will give you... Read more

Answer:Outlook 2010 / Exchange 2010 randomly deleted inbox email?

Are you the only person using that Exchange server who has this issue? Check with the IT department to see if they can recover the emails in your mailbox from the server. It's possible they recently did some maintenance on the mail server that caused this issue. That fact that both Outlook and your phone are having this issue points to this being an Exchange server problem, as Outlook uses autodiscover and MAPI while your phone uses ActiveSync to connect to the server.

Do you have access to your email using Outlook Web Access? If so, log in and see if the emails are there. If not, it's definitely a server issue.

If your mail is still on the server, one thing you could try is re-enabling the cached Exchange mode, saving the change, and then restarting Outlook. The last thing to try is to delete the email account profile and recreate it. Make sure to get the proper settings from IT if you don't already have them -- although since you are using Exchange and autodiscover, that's usually just a case of entering your username and password when you recreate it.

hello,

We recently upgraded our servers from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010. One of major issues is the syncing of mail on our Droid phones. Many of use the Touchdown email client. The older Touchdown clients failed and once upgraded to the latest version, it works fine. However the native email client on android OS is not working at all. I have tried unchecking "use a secured connection" and unchecking "verify certificates" Also since we carry many different models of Droids, different OS's don't seem to make a difference either.

Anyone on exchange 2010 ever encounter any issues with Android.

Answer:Exchange 2010 Upgrade Caused Native Droid Email Client To Fail

I had some issues when we switched over. I was just using the native andriod client as opposed to Touchdown. I would check some of the android forums and just search for outlook. there were several threads on those boards and something i found there ended up correcting my issue. sorry don't have my droid anymore and can't recall the settings.

When I try to run Outlook, I get an error message that says: "Outlook requires Outlook Express 4.01 or greater".  Apparently, I inadvertently deleted an Outlook Express library that Outlook shares and now Outlook will not run.  The message says to run "IE5Setup.exe" to reinstall Outlook Express.  I found the program on the CD, but it will not install because there is a later version of IE on the System.  The OS is Windows XP Pro w/SP2 and the Outlook is part of Office XP Standard 2002.I found an article in the MS Knowledge Base regarding this topic, but it doesn't really tell you how to install Outlook Express in XP.  I can't figure out low to download Express from the MS Download Center; so now I'm stuck.Has anyone encountered this problem or know how to fix it?Thanks

Answer:Outlook email client

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/default.mspxOutlook Express doesn't have its own installer, it is an option of Internet Explorer. You will most likely need to reinstall the latest version of Internet Explorer with the Outlook package included.

I need to move 8 of my email accounts to a different PC that already has MS Outlook running on it with a number of other email addresses that I need to monitor. I would prefer not to add the new email addresses to Outlook and would prefer to access them on a separate email client. What are the best choices in this regard? Obviously, Outlook and the client would need to play nice with each other, but that shouldn't be a problem, these days should it? I ask because the last time I needed to do this, I used Outlook and Eudora and they did not have any issues with each other, even running simultaneously. Yes, I know, I am getting old...

I don't think that it exists, but an email client that works with Outlook calendar invites would be ideal.

Thanks!

Answer:Best Non-Outlook Email Client?

I've been using Thunderbird for years and have yet to find anything to replace it. At this point I've migrated all of my accounts over to it and have nothing bad to say about.

As for calendars, I don't really know if you can integrate the Outlook calendar to it. There is an extension called "Lightning". That will integrate with Google calendar but that's as far as I've ever had to go with setting up a calendar in Thunderbird.

And for the record... I followed a near identical upgrade path as you did from the late 90s Eudora to Outlook (up to 2007) then finally just jumped ship. Haven't looked back.

We are running Exchange 2003 SP2 and our clients have Office 2010. Our Outlook profiles are created automatically by using Group Policy to set a registry key which points to a PRF file with all the Outlook settings. Lately, many of our users are reporting that their emails are getting stuck in the Outbox. If you look at their Outlook profile, they have two Exchange accounts listed. You cannot delete either of them; it gives a message that this is the default email account.

The immediate solution is to recreate the user's Outlook profile. This allows the stuck email to send. The real issue is that this keeps occurring. Recreating the Outlook profile sometimes fixes the problem for a long time, months maybe. But other times the problem occurs the next day. This is happening with users who have established Outlook profiles as well as new users logging into their PCs for the first time. I've attached the code from our PRF. Any help is appreciated, as we have around 400 active users and we're constantly chasing after this issue.

Answer:Outlook 2010 Email Stuck in Outbox; Corrupt Outlook Profile

Couple steps you may apply...

1. Repair the offline file with a Microsoft utility called SCANOST.exe. I’ve seen this file reside in a number of different locations, mainly within Program Files. It might be best to search for it with Windows or Google Desktop. SCANPST.exe will also work, though you’ll have to go digging for your outlook.ost, which should be near c:\Documents and Settings\ %profile%\ Local Settings\ Application Data\ Microsoft\ Outlook\ outlook.ost. If your file is significant in size, you’ll save a lot of time with the repair operation by not creating a backup. Because if the repair finishes successfully and Outlook still bombs, you’ll need to.
2. Shutdown Outlook completely, including any runaway outlook.exe processes in the task manager. Open Mail in the Control Panel and before you delete your profile completely, write down the server settings! There’s no need to worry about backing up your mail as it’s stored on the Exchange server. (Essentially, you’re deleting that outlook.ost when you drop your mail profile.) Now, start Outlook and it will create a new profile, where you’ll configure the server with the information you wrote down previously.

If steps above don’t work or you need to get more variants of .pst restoration, visit...

Hi,
I'm having trouble trying to get rid of this pop-up message every time I send an email through our accounting software. The accounting software links to office.
See Attached image.

I have followed each step of the following windows help article.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3189806/-a-program-is-trying-to-send-an-e-mail-message-on-your-behalf-warning-in-outlook

- Virus scanner is up to date
- Trust centre also says it's status is "valid"
- I have checked the button to 'never warm me....."
- I have checked the registry edited and the key value is 2, which is correct.
- I have restarted the computer after the valid steps to ensure the settings have been enabled.

All of the above still results in the popup message as per the image attached.
This is only happening on one computer, not all of them.

Anyone have any other ideas to try?

I have XP SP2

I just recently got a new ISP so I called tech support to have him help me set up an email account. I prefer to use the email client Thunderbird by Mozilla. But the tech I got could only do it in Outlook Express.

When I go into Tools>Accounts>Properties and choose the Servers tab it says:
Server Information
My incoming mail is a POP3 server.
Incoming mail (POP3) POP3.live.com
Outgoing mail (SMTP) SMTP.live.com

Then right below that it says: Incoming Mail Server
Account name: [email protected]
Password *******

The Remember password box is checked and the Log on using Secure Password Authentication is not.

Then below that you have: Outgoing Mail Server
Then the box: My sever requires authentication is checked and this allowed us to set: Settings

The first thing says: Log on Information then the first radio button says: Use same settings as my incoming mail server This is not selected. The next button says: Logon using and then it says: Account name: [email protected] and Password ******* Under this is a check box that says: Remember password It's checked. Below this is another check box saying: Log on using Secure Password Authentication It's not checked.

So, the names of the servers appears to be POP3.live.com and SMTP.live.com. I tried plugging these into Thunderbird as the incoming and outgoing mail servers but it didn't like it. I'm admittedly far from being an expert here. Do I even have enough information?

Thanks

Hi there

I'm trying to look for an alternative robust email client to outlook -- want to start gradually moving away from Ms Office to cheaper solutions.

I don't like the way Ms is going with subscription based Office 365 and Office 2013 is IMO "The Pits" - office 2010 works fine but I want where possible to start using alternatives. Libre Office is fine for some things but not quite ready for prime time yet (IMO) especially for EXCEL but I can start moving away from office gradually with an email client first.

The email client must NOT be web or browser based (I Hate webmail type of things) and must support IMAP. I don't want it to have ADWARE or NAGWARE (you know those that keep persuading you "Please update to PRO version etc etc"). It must also support MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS. It should ideally have a similar or identical interface to OUTLOOK -- simple plain, not like the background I've seen on some Gamers machines !!!!

If it can integrate with GMAIL that's fine but not mandatory. Preferably free too .

I did see a portable client ISCRIBE at i.Scribe and InScribe: A Small and Easy to use Email Client but it looks as if it might be a little experimental.

I discarded OPERAMAIL -- don't want any BROWSER or web mail type of stuff.

Linux has some decent choices such as EVOLUTION (probably one of the best if not the best) but Windows seems a bit lacking in this area -- pity OUTLOOK EXPRESS wasn't continued after XP -- it was small, simple and could als... Read more

Answer:alternative email client to Outlook (NOT WEB BASED) please

From my previous post in Need a good email client :
Mozilla Thunderbird. You might be put off by claims about its future (no more development) but it will still be supported for a long time (stability/security fixes still going on). Zimbra Desktop Incredimail Pegasus Mail Opera Mail eM Client Windows Live Mail / Windows 8 Mail App
When have you tried opera mail last ? It should be separate from the browser today (it still uses the old presto engine while the browser uses the chrome one), check here : Opera Desktop Team - Opera Mail

Thunderbird, and Zimbra are all good choices and should fit your requirements. eM Client is very nice but it supports only 2 mail accounts on free version. Pegasus Mail is quite good but the UI is old now and it doesn't feel like outlook. Incredimail has promotional tag lines in your outgoing email and some ads show up.

Not included in this list is Claws Mail - the email client that bites!, since I never tried it. It seems to be OK, it's open source and works on both linux and windows, the interface looks a bit like outlook express, and it supports multiple accounts and IMAP. It might be what you're looking for.

So yeah, i still pay for my hotmail email just for the option to be able to use it with outlook Express (OE6)....without POP3.
Long story short, MS is killing OE6 ability to work with hotmail as of Sept 1. 2009!!!
(well except for POP3 access which i cant stand)

I liked thunderbird and the bat, but i really love the abilty to have totally separate identities like the OE6 offers. Not to mention the ability to password protect the entire identity / email client if wanted to with a password. (Without even being able to see any previously downloaded emails and whatnot)

Those are my two main things that i love about OE6 that i surprisingly have yet to find in any other email client....thus why i am still using OE6....and paying for a hotmail email.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Ill have to start my email client search and trials again...it's been about a year since i looked at anything else other than OE6.

Thanks for reading.

I tried command prompt as admin netsh winsock r (worked on 1st computer running win 8 that the browsers failed on) , but this had no effect so I did a clean boot which seems to have resolved this issue (2nd computer with win 8 on that the browsers stop working but internet running fine on them.).
Before this was done all of sudden outlook 2013 decided when starting to display the message: Either there is no default mail client or the current client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft outlook and set it as the default mail client.

Now this I have done in all 3 areas, outlook, control panel and internet options within the IE browser. But nothing changes and they were all 3 set as default anyway.

Anyone have any idea why this happening and if there is a fix as I am getting to the point where I am beginning to despair with win 8 and outlook 2013 respectively, and recommend roll backs till they get their act together and sort them out.

Answer:Outlook 2013 not recognised as default email client

The Outlook email client on my Windows 10 phone will not send messages. I have confirmed my SMTP settings. I have deleted the accounts and set them up again from scratch. I can receive but not send. Windows sweetly puts the unsent stuff in the drafts folders where they do me no good at all.
When it does that, I get messages about confirming the email addresses and not sending overly large attachments. The addresses are good. There are no attachments in my "This is a test" messages.
I'd be happy to switch to another client but there seem to be none available. I use Thunderbird on my desktop, Amazon's email client on my Kindle Fire, and I used both the Android basic email client and Google's Android mail client (I don't use gmail addresses however) successfully. I don't use hotmail.com, live, com, yahool.com, aol.com, outlook.com addresses either. Yes, I know I'm a dirty SOB for not falling into line, but I've used my fastmail.com account for years for my personal stuff and for my business stuff I host my own through a LeaseWeb account.
I received my Windows phone from my son when he switched to iPhone. I thanked him profusely. Now I'm thinking about going back to the highly cooperative Android world. In the meantime, I'd like to be able to shoot a quick email reply now and then using my Windows phone.

I have Vista as my OS and I use IE and Outlook 2000.
Whenever I click an email link in IE, Windows Mail opens.
When I try to set Outlook 2000 as the default email client from Internet Explorer I get a 'Set your default programs' dialog box which does not list Outlook 2000. Any thoughts ?

Ya ya ya...i dont need to hear the bickering about OE6 and what not.

Basically im looking for a email client that has similar security features that OE6 has, like the option for seperate identity's and the identity passwords mostly. Particularilly how the identity passwords can prevent anyone from even opening the client fully so they cant even read any email that have all ready been downloaded.

If makes no sense why all these other email client are wide open so that anyone can click on a email client (firebird, thebat etc) and just waltz in and start reading emails. And to not even have a full lockdown option is pitiful IMHO.

Yes i could have it not save the passwords to download the emails...but the previously downloaded emails in the client can still be read...so whats the point?!?!.
Thats my main feature concern that im looking for in a email client. And since MS is going to kill the DAV protocol for hotmail in OE6 soon. Im looking for a good alternative email client, and hopefully stop using my hotmail account for good...which is the main reason i use OE6. I now i could use regualr outlook...but again the security issue...and the lack of future portability is also a thought..

Thanks for reading...any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Also IMAP support is very highly preffered.

I have two client rules set up in my mail server thru my ISP's webmail.

1) If email is from 'a', move email to folder 'a'
2) If email is from 'b', move email to folder 'b'

Now everything works fine and dandy in my webmail, but in Outlook I'm not receiving any emails from 'a' or 'b' at all. Not in my inbox, not in my folders (same name), not anywhere.

Why is this?

Do I have to take the client rules off the ISP's webmail and only implement them in Outlook?

Answer:Outlook 07 - Not receiving certain emails...because of client email server rules

No idea how to do this with POP3.

Either way, I don't think you can have local a and b folders on your computer synch with those on the server.

If you set up IMAP (instead of POP3), you can see a and b folders on the server through Outlook.

I am running Vista Ultimate SP1, Outlook 2007 (12.06423.1000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6425.1000) with an http Exchange mail account as well as an Outlook Connector for Hotmail plus POP mailboxes.

Recently (since installation of Office SP2) adding a new contact or sending an message with a new email address the email address is not underlined and when attempting to save the contact or send message the following error is displayed:

"The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."

This message also appears even if I try and send meesage by one of the POP accounts.

This is very frustrating as I cannot create new contacts or send new messages. I'd pull my hair out... but I've got none left!

I would appreciate if anyone knows how to fix this issue.

Thanks.

Answer:Outlook 2007 (Exchange client) will not save contact email address

Appreciate that you have correlated the problem to Office 2007 SP2. I am having the same problem with an XP Pro PC using Outlook 2007 connected to Exchange 2003 over Http/RPC. There are two accounts: Exchange and one POP. If I take the Exchange connection "off line" it is possible to add the new email address to the contact. THEN, I can send the email via either Exchange or POP. Also, I cannot send an email to an address that is not already in "contacts", or apparently never sent an email to a particular address. So, same work around. Take Exchange offline and then send email via POP account. With Exchange back online, it is now possible to send to the new email address.

Try changing your user name to something else. It's possible the user name you are using is already being used by someone else on that email server.

I've used Outlook 2010 as my email tool for years (and have an @outlook.com address). Until last evening things were fine but this morning I found all my received emails in a sub-folder rather then my Inbox. I have sent a test email from my Inbox and it too was received in the same sub folder. Also, archived emails in other sub folders are no longer showing. No changes have been made to my PC in any respect.
Grateful for some simple advice to rectify the issue(s) if possible)please?
On another matter, this last few months my PC (not old) has been so slow in all respects that it's almost not worth using sometimes - I have the latest McAfee LiveSafe which should clean my PC and keep things right but it's getting slower and slower by the day. Any tips welcome, thank you.

With previous versions of MS Outlook you could right-click on a received e-mail and select 'properties' from the drop-down. This would show the full return paths and the true address of the sender.
How would one go about getting to this information?
I did a google but the link was broke

Answer:Outlook 2010 Email properties

This option has been removed from the context (right click) menu in Outlook 2010 but there are alternative ways to access the dialog still and see the Internet headers of that message.
By opening the message first

If you open the message in its own window (via a double click), then you can access the Message Options of that message via;
File-> Info-> button Properties
By leaving the message closed

If you do not want to open the message first, but want to access the Message Options dialog directly from within the main Outlook window, then you can add the Message Options command to your Quick Access Toolbar;
File-> Options
Select the Quick Access Toolbar on the left.
Set the ?Choose commands from? dropdown list to; Commands Not in the Ribbon
From the command list select; Message Options?
Press the ?Add > >? button.
Press OK.
The option is now added to the Quick Access Toolbar at the top of your Outlook window and view the Internet headers of a message without needing to open it first.

Answer:Cannot add new email account in Outlook 2010

Without knowing more about your mail server name and such.
Have you tried to Ping your mail server? like from the run cmd prompt ping mail.xxx.xxx
I ping mail.cpcug.org to verify that the server is on-line and responding.

You could double check all the options in outlook setup email accounts to make sure that
you have spelled everything correctly, that sometimes is the problem where mispelling will
mess you up.

also the more settings options will have to be looked at to make sure that the boxes are checked correctly.

These things can get tricky if you misspell, many mail servers want your complete email address for the logon userid..

YMMV

I installed MS OFFICE 2010, without Outlook, over 2007 with, thinking that Outlook would remain. Not so, and after a long phone conversation with MS Rep, who couldn't adjust settings to repair, offered to ring back after the weekend. Before she rang off I very tongue in cheek suggested she asked her manager if Outlook 2010 could be installed free, for my trouble!Great result as, when call back came manager had agreed, for my trouble to install, free. Great stuff. One up to Microsoft. Only slight niggle, and I can't complain really, I don't get the email alert message in corner of monitor.I don't think the problem is caused by Outlook.I've checked the necessary boxes in Settings and Options, but think cause may be because I use an IMAP email server. Can anyone confirm, and suggest a solution please?

Hi, a friend has asked me to take a look at his laptop. He was browsing through his mail and opened one, he didn't think it looked suspicious. (I have ran a check and found nothing on the laptop.)
On opening it his whole inbox disappeared and since then, he hasn't been able to get any mail.
On doing a send and receive I get these sort of errors:

Task 'Synchronizing subscribed folders for ****@dukechristie.com (1).' reported error (0x800CCC0E) : 'Outlook cannot synchronize subscribed folders for ****@*dukechristie.com (1). Error: Cannot connect to the server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Task '****@*dukechristie.com (1) - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0D) : 'Cannot find the e-mail server. Verify the server information in your account properties.'

I think this must be a server error as it suggests, it is an IMAP account he is using. I have done a google search to try and fix this but am having no luck.
I have gone to settings and changed it so it only downloads headers and this has done nothing.
I have also checked the account settings and they are correct.
I have been told that he can get his mail through webmail and is having no problem sending and receiving that way. I'd just like to get it working on 2010.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I've been using Outlook since 1998 and I think I am hitting "the wall" with this particular problem.A couple of months ago I noticed that MS Outlook 2010/64 bit with Windows 7 OS was acting a wee bit unstable as it was crashing periodically when I would open an email. It was a minor annoyance that I just worked around. About a month ago, I discovered that if I opened the reading pane view for viewing email, the program would crash immediately. And now, Outlook has become a door stop as within the past week, I can no longer open any emails as the program crashes each and every time.I happened to run a utility program called "Mini Tool Box" yesterday on a "malware hunt" (a process I learned through this forum) which reports everything that is running on your PC. It also reports faulting applications, which in my case was Outlook 2010. I took the pertinent data from this report and sought a solution. A forum that I came across advised to run the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe). I did so and the program found errors (it does not quantify what errors or how many errors if found). I let the program run, rebooted, and Outlook continued to crash as before.

Note:  The crashing of MS Outlook 2010 has occurred without provocation from changes in my system.  I have not added, deleted, any programs.  I do a weekly defrag and a sweep with a spy bot and C. Cleaner. I would appreciate any advice on repairing this pesky problem. Thank you.Jim Consid... Read more

Just on the off chance your default font in Outlook is Helvetica: http://www.slipstick.com/emo/2010/up101209.htm#1

The 0xc0000005 error code can be caused by a number of issues. Does the error code only occur with the Outlook.exe file? The likely cause is a problem with the way the program was installed or updated. If not, it could be anything from malware, to damaged system files, to bad RAM or drivers.

I enter my product key information as prompted. After my info is verified nothing happens. I attempt to generate a new email by tipping on the icon but no blank email page appears. How is your E-Mail provider? If its your internet provider, it's possible that the outgoing server is only used when you are connected to their internet service.

Check with them if they have an additional outgoing (SMTP) server that you can use while you are not on their service.

Greetings all,

I'm a real newbie to this forum, so if I have posted this in the incorrect location just let me know. Thanks -

When I create a new email and begin to type in a name, for example J, a window/drop-down appears and shows me 3 names that begin with the letter "J" and the next name shown begins with the letter "L". Since I actually have 26 names that begin with "J" why can't I scroll down the list and pick the one I want?

If I double click on the "To" it will bring up my address book and then I can type "J" and it will show me all the "J"s that I can choose from. However, that is obviously another step to go through that wastes time. Is there an option I need to check to allow the first window/drop down to show me more options, or another solution?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide to solve this problem for me.

Ron

Answer:Outlook 2010 email addresses to choose from??

Hi Ron, maybe I'm missing something, but the more letters you type, the narrower the field becomes.

So for example, if I start off with "L" all the names with L will pop-up, as I type the second letter, LI, all the names with LI will stay and everything else drops off and so on. That's the way the "auto" feature is designed to work.

The other way you could do it is just type the entire name in the To box and hit Check Names and the box that opens will have a list of all the people with that name, then you just choose the one you want.

Hope this helps.

I tried to set up my college email (.edu) in recently installed outlook 2010. I did something about Exchange (I don't remember exactly what I did..) when outlook first popped up, and now it won't let me do anything.
When I open outlook, it comes up with the error message: "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action. "
I click okay and a box comes up wanting me to enter Microsoft Exchange Server and Mailbox. I try putting my info in but I don't know exactly what to put. If I click okay, an error comes up. "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file...is not an Outlook data file (.ost)."
I click okay and it completely closes outlook.
I've tried to click file in the main window, but it either doesn't let me or says, "Not Responding."
How do I fix it? Thanks!

We are in the middle of moving from a local exchange server to using Microsoft hosted mail. Currently, both our local mail and office 365 mail are active. As an intermediary step, I am attaching both accounts to our current version of outlook (2010), so that people can move mail through Outlook at their own pace. So far, I've set this up a dozen times with minimal issues, but I have run into a strange problem.

One user's outlook fails repeatedly to add the account. It acts like it's working fine, but when outlook requests the password, my user types it in, and the box requesting the password pops up again. If told to cancel, an error pops up, stating that the exchange server cannot be found, and that outlook needs to be online. I neglected to get the complete message, but that is the gist.

The same email can be setup on a different machine, and the password is correct because it was used to set up one drive on the same machine. I even tried creating a new mail profile, but it also had issues. The problem has to be with that installation of outlook, specifically, and possibly the user profile. This user has had a lot of issues with their outlook before, sometimes due to data size issues (too many names in the junk list, just flat too much email, period).

They currently have a lot of .pst archived folders attached to outlook as a compromise to keeping the inbox small, and I'm wondering if this could have any impact. Has anyone heard of this problem, or... Read more

Never mind. I kind of answered my own question after I thought about it.

FYI: Even if the main profile is under 2 GB, if all the open data files exceed a certain size (I'm not sure how much, but this was over 6 GB) it will not add a new profile. I closed the other data files and was then able to add the new email without issue. After restarting outlook, I was able to reopen the other data files, and all seems to be well now.

Outlook 2010 with Windows 7 can send email but not receive. Yesterday the email stopped receiving. Nothing was done to the pc. It can send no issues. The email account itself works because a blackberry works just fine. Repair office has been tried.

Answer:Outlook 2010 I can send email but not receive

Who is your email provider or are you running your own mail server? You may want to try a different port for your SMTP.

If I want to switch from using Outlook 2010 to some other email program like Thunderbird or Zimbra, is it possible to import & use my Outlook 2010 files in the new email program? If so, how?
Thanks.

Answer:Is It Possible to Use Outlook 2010 Files In Other Email Programs?

I have not done so, but it certainly appears that Thunderbird will import from Outlook. Clicking on Tools - Import... gives the window shown in my screen shot attachment.

Hi

I'm using Outlook 2010. I'm typing an email address into a contact, and it lets me type it in but then when I hit tab or return the address just vanishes. It's happening with an email address that Outlook already knows, so it suggests it as I type it; it seems not to happen with an email address that Outlook doesn't already know.

Any suggestions?

I managed to install Office 2010 without problems (Win 7/64bit).
I am going nuts with a minor item in Outlook. When I open an email it makes a sound. I don't want it. I found something in "help" that prevented the noise when an email arrives, but I can't make any sense of what to do to get rid of the open email beep.
Thanks.

Hello all:

Made the mistake of trying to send a huge email through Outlook... now it is stuck and can't find a way to get rid of it. Seems to be sucking up memory and besides that it is irritating.

I'm using an Earthlink email address. My internet service is a local one and offers 4G.

What do you suggest?

Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Outlook 2010 - email stuck

if the item is stuck in your outbox, you may not be able to delete it until you set Outlook to work Offline (Send / Receive then Work Offline from the Ribbon). Note: This may not be instantaneous - you may need to let it sit in Offline for a while before you can go to your Outbox and delete the stuck mail.

I am viewing a contact and click to send them an email and the usual form appears which I complete and send. I know, or hope, it gets sent, but it doesn't appear in my sent folder. Whereas when sending via the new email section, which involves me sometimes copying and pasting the address, the email gets listed as usual.
I would save time if I could activate "send Email" from within a contact. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Answer:Email via Contacts in Office Outlook 2010

I'm still on Outlook 2007 but you shouldn't have to copy and paste emails from the contacts. In the new mail window (form) are you clicking on To or CC which should open up your contacts list in a new little window.
Does it show in Outbox before it goes? Do people get them? You may have more than one sent folder eg sent items or sent.

Hi,

I have an unusual problem.

I need to change my email account within Outlook but when I go to 'Account Settings' there are no accounts there, and so nothing to change.

What could be causing this, how do I access my account and how do I rectify it??

Many thanks!

I had this same problem tonight and it was very frustrating. Whether I typed out the full address or used the autosuggest feature after the first few letters, the result was the same. It would disappear when I tried to save the contact. Here's how I got around it. In my case, I looked up the email sent by the person with the address that the Contact page would not accept. The address as received in the email had the first letter capitalized. On the Contact page the auto-filled email address did not (and when I typed it myself I didn't capitalize it) and therefore didn't match exactly. When I retyped the email address in the Contact page using the same capitalization and saved it everyth... Read more

I'm thinking there's a problem with the 'autocomplete cache' that may continue to haunt. I would clear the cashe and let it start over. Instructions here http://www.groovypost.com/howto/microsoft/disable-clear-outlook-2010-auto-complete-cache/

Hi Guys is it possible to set up my Outlook 2010 to delete my email from the server once I have downloaded and read them ?

Many thanks

Steve

Answer:Delete Email from Server using Outlook 2010

Yes, you can delete email from the server using Outlook 2010.

Exactly how can depend on: What type of email account(s) you have such as IMAP, POP3, ...
Who the email provider(s) are such as Gmail, Hotmail, ...
How you want your email saved...
I'm assuming this is for Home email and you installed, configure, and control Outlook.

If this is for any Work email account(s) where Outlook is controlled by "Corp. policy / Email administrator" that can make a difference.

My outlook is marking my email as read before i look at them.
Email sometime shows as read in the inbox the first time it apears. other times the email shows up as unread but changes to read on its own. Or a large groupe of email changes to read if I touch another email with the curser. Some email comes in unread and stays that way as long as I don't read it.

I can't find any consistancey.

I also get lots of Spam. Eventhough i have setting set high. The company even has a firewall. Most of the other folks here dont get much spam.

Our IT guy has scanned my computer with Hijackthis, malwarebytes, Trendmicro and i dont know what else.

He has asked Microsoft for help and more.

You folks are my last chance. Has anyone solved this problem??

I am trying to transfer old stored emails from my old Windows XP computer that used an MSN email program to my new Windows 7 computer that is using Microsoft Outlook.
I have just purchased a new computer with Windows 7 and Office 2010 Professional. My email server is MSN.com and I was using their email program. I want to use Outlook on my new computer. In the setting up access to my email account, the setup program took me through Microsoft Connections and I was able to access my email account. I now want to move the emails I have stored on my old computer under personal data storage (on my hard drive) to my new computer.
I contacted MSN support asking how I might accomplish this. They advised me to move the emails back to a server folder and the emails and subfolders would then show up in Outlook. I tried this with a small group of emails (in a folder) and it worked. I then moved the emails to the Personal Data File area in Outlook (on my new computer). The next day I repeated the transfer process with additional emails, but this time Outlook did not show the old emails on the server. I can still see the emails on the server if I use the MSN mail program, but they are not showing up in Outlook. I have tried the transfer several times with the same results of Outlook not seeing the old emails. All new emails received are appearing normally in both Outlook and in the MSN email program. The MSN support individuals suspect I might have tripped some type of function or setting th... Read more

Is anyone aware of an efficient way to move emails (inbox, sent, etc) from Mozilla Thunderbird to Outlook 2010 (not Express)?

Tbird2OE is amazingly slow and introduces some problems of its own.

Answer:Thunderbird to Outlook 2010 - email import?

What's slow about it? Thunderbird is a pretty basic, simple e-mail editor. If it opens slowly or doesn't respond, I suspect you have other problems.

Also, there's no way to natively import e-mails from Thunderbird into Outlook, so you'd have to hunt for a 3rd party tool.

There was an old thread from last year, which described a problem with Outlook 2010 Contact records, but which did not offer a definitive solution. This is to follow up with such a solution.
The problem sometimes arises when you try to edit an existing contact record by adding a new email address. When you enter the new email address, and when you then move on to the next field, the new email address sometimes disappears. IOW, Outlook will not allow you to add the email address. This problem appears to be related to Outlook's autofill feature... if you've received an email from the contact using that new email address, Outlook will autofill the Contact email field with that address. But it won't accept it, and it disappears as soon as you move to the next field.
The offered solution from last year's thread was to clear the autofill cache, and to see if that would work. But there was no report as to whether or not that solution worked, and it's rather cumbersome to find and delete the whole cache file. That thread is now closed.
I tried a simpler solution that did work: deleting the offending email address from autofill. This is easily done by starting a new email message to the contact person in question. When you start to type the person's name or email address into the To: line of the new message, Outlook will suggest the offending email address. Simply delete that autofill suggestion (there's an x next to it).
That done, you can g... Read more
