Preferred Solution: 1810-24G firmware

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys,

Long time reader, first time poster so hello.

Looking at buying a couple of switches atm namely the HP V1900 or the HP V1810 8 port version. This would be to set up a dev lab for ESXi, basic NAS/iSCSI stuff, vlans etc from what i have read the v1810 is the switch everyone is going for, but on paper I cannot see any differences. My main requiremenst are gig, vlans and jumbo frames. I would have bought a v1810 but I have found the v1900 cheaper. Any opinions why I shouldnt buy the 1900?

cheers

Al

Answer:HP V1900 or HP 1810

Go with the 1810G. That is an actual HP switch. The v1900 is rebadged 3com.

Question: Procurve 1810 24G

Hello everyone,

I have a question about setting up vlans on 6 procurve 1810. The aim is to set 5 vlans. I looked on the internet but could not find a good explanation. Eventually I then ended up on this forum. I hope someone can help me. Standard has procurve vlan 1. When I set vlans, I don't make any changes on 3 ports. One for my connection, the server and uplink to the router. After setting vlans, I connect another PC to a vlan I created but I could not connect to the internet. On the DHCP server, I created different scopes. They are also not divided to the switches. I'm fairly new to networking and hope there is someone who can give me clear advice on how to do this.

If you need more info, please ask me and I will give it to you. This really keeps me awake at night.

Thanks

I have an XPS 1810 that I purchased in 2013 and is out of warranty. It has always worked fine, but suddenly will not boot. The power adapter appears to be working (white light is on). When I attempt to turn it on, the black screen with the round Dell logo pops up briefly (1-2 seconds), then I hear a click and it turns off completely. Holding the power button down for 10 seconds did nothing, nor did pressing the F2, F12, or F8 keys during the seconds that the Dell logo appeared. I have not attempted to remove the battery yet - I'm ok with replacing laptop batteries but this appears to be a bit more complicated. I have a lot of pictures on this computer that I don't want to lose. I have barely used it so I'm a bit disappointed that I'm having this problem already. Any ideas what I should try next?

Answer:XPS 1810 will not boot

Hi Alisonshedd
Thanks for writing to us. Almost all the components on this models are very complicated to remove. If feasible you can take the machine to a local Dell Authorized service center and get it repaired. Or get the HD out and backed up your data first then give it for repair.
We are either looking at a faulty memory modules or a faulty motherboard.

Hi All

I came across this forum researching Networking and it looks like a great place to get advise. I have 2 HP 1810-24G switches at a client. There has been networking issues, where people print and nothing goes to the printers, and staff complain the network is very slow.

I was advised to create a trunk to improve throughput between the 2 switches. I connected port 23 and 24 to each switch with a non crossover network cable. Under The trunk settings in the Web management I clicked ports 23 and 24 and chose LACP Active, on the other switch I did the same and chose LACP Passive. I came across a HP forum where that was the recommended configuration.

The server is an HP Proliant ML350 G6, and I have teamed the 2 NICs and connected those to ports 1 and 2 on the one switch and created a LACP Active Trunk.

I have had the network connected like the above for some time now, so not sure what is causing the chaos on the network. With the Network being very slow, I have removed the trunk between the switches and connected ports 24 together and left the server Team as it is.

The client doesn't do VOIP, or any multimedia things through the switches. Its mostly for accessing the file server, printers and they use some accounting software which has a sql data connection to the server.

Would it be beneficial to setup a 2 port trunk between the switches? I don't know if my initial setup was incorrectly configured and that caused some sort of broadcast storm on ... Read more

Answer:Connecting 2 HP 1810-24G switches

Just so I have read everything correctly the main issue is network slowness, so you want to implement a network trunk to help improve performance?

I am getting ready to wire my whole house with CAT6 and I will be using the 1810 v2 switch for my network. I noticed that this switch is not made for standard rack mounting. How would be mount this on a 19'' server rack?

Answer:Question about HP 1810 v2 switch

8 port or 24 port because the 24 port has ears and racks just fine. The 8 port you'd probably have to get a shelf for.

Hello there,
Recently I bought a HP procurve 1810-8G to go with my HP procurve 1810-24G.
The idea is simple the 1810-8G is on the ground level next to my router. and the 1810-24G is in the basement next to the servers.
I have 2 CAT6A cables connecting the switches.

First I tried it without changing any setting (you never know)
This created a loop and overloaded the entire network
so no luck on the easy approach, then I decided to trunk them.
I set up a trunk on both 1810's, and assigned the right ports.

But for some reason even though the ports where showing up as connected I could not get the trunk activated.

I had it set up as a dynamic trunk type, but since then I think I tried every single trunk combo.

I know that harforum recommends the 1810 series so I though id just ask here and see If someone could help me on this.
All questions are welcome.
I'm sure there you need a lot more info then what I just gave you, so just ask and I'll let you know.

PS:
There is no such thing as a obvious/ stupid question.
If you want to be sure I didn’t to something noobish just ask.

Answer:HP procurve 1810-XXG trunking

I am not too familiar with HP procurves, but trunking is trunking. Are you attempting to trunk with one connection, ie...Cat5 from one switch to the other? Or are you attempting to trunk via two Cat5 connections between the devices? Anytime you have more than one connection from one switch to another, STP will kick in and block one interface to prevent layer 2 loops. This is a good thing. If you have an unmanaged switch, well then you are SOL..haha

Start off with the simplest of configs. Connect one Cat5 to the switch and the other end to the other switch. I wouldnt use Dynamic trunking...setup the parameters on your own so you can tweek setting if need be. Each interface will need to be configured as a trunk and Dot1.q encapsulation turned on, if its not by default after commiting the ports as a trunk. Your trunk link should be up at this point, provided HP doesn't require some weird setting that I am not aware of. If you want another trunking interface between the two for redundancy and or bandwidth aggregation, then you need to logically combine the interfaces in use via LACP. This way here STP will not see these combined interfaces as a layer 2 loop. That will take a lot more configuration to get working. I hope I understood your question correctly and answered in a way that will help you out.

Hi everyone,

I have a strange issue about the hp procurve 1810 24G (J9450A). When I connect my computer to one of the available ports of the switch I notice that I can't get network connection. The weeks before everything worked fine. When I look at the internet icon on the right bottom of my screen it keeps identifying.

Other computers connected to the switch have internet access. The computers that have internet access can not ping to the switch but it can ping to other hosts and outside like google.com

I could make it work again after pulling the power of the switch and waiting a couple of seconds. The pc's that didn't get internet connection are working now and I can reach the switch again.

Does anyone knows why this happens? This is not relyable for me and I would like to prevent such faults in the future.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Procurve 1810 24G (J9450A)

1) What kind of firewall do you have? (Does it limit the amount of devices that can pass through ti?)

2) Call HP procurve support, they are awesome and the switch should have a lifetime warranty. They will replace it no questions asked if the switch is the issue.

All, recently I encountered the "plugged in not charging" problem on my Dell XPS 1810. I tried the shutdown, unplug cable and plug in again, reboot to no avail. Then tried to remove "ACPI battery" from Device Manager, reboot to no avail. Also tried suggestion to hold on to the restart button for a few seconds to no avail. Initially I was able to plug it in and continue to use the PC with 0-1% charge, 2 to 3 days later, I could not even boot up the machine.
So I succumbed to the solution to order a replacement motherboard as suggested by another thread here that worked for almost everyone. Yesterday after placing the motherboard order, I moved the XPS 18 back to the bedroom and leave it there. Today, I just wanted to give it another try with zero expectation, and SUPRISINGLY it rebooted and the battery is charging AGAIN!! It is 70% charged now.
Well I try to see what I have done differently. I googled and found a different thread for this same problem but not specifically for XPS 18, and they suggest to blow or clean the charger contact. You know what, I did blow at the charger contact yesterday night because I had similar problem with my cellphone and cleaning the contact worked on a cellphone. It did not charge yesterday night, but I think I fling the charging contact while I moved it o my room.
Now I have a replacement motherboard on its way, which I will have to return. So try cleaning the charging contact first, if that does not work for yo... Read more

Ok guys, been researching this for a while now.
Anyways, I'm personally looking into a good solid switch that could grow with my home network and stay SOLID.

I've narrowed my choices down to the above two switches. The Dell 28xx and HP 1810 series. I'm leaning towards the HP, but the dell has a kick butt price that sways me in it's direction.
I've read about some really nice features on HP that again sways me in it's direction namely the fact that the 24 port version is fanless and has the ability to turn the lights off after a short while.
The Dell only offers fanless up to the 16 port models. The 24 port seems to add one single fan? Please anyone who's recently bought a 2824 chime in here.

I personally don't think that I'll NEED more then 16 ports. Heck for that matter the 8 port hp 1810 looks like all I currently need. Looking ahead I may very likely need more then that. So at minimum I'm going to need a 16 port.

Are there any features aside from the lifetime warranty that the HP switches offer over the Dells that I should be aware of? Any other netgear, cisco or other brands that I may not be aware of that could fit the bill?
budget wise... keep it reasonable... less then $300 is preferable though I'd be willing to step up to $400 if the switch is truely worth it.

Answer:HP 1810 vs. Dell 28xx vs others?

For a "home" network....what do you need? I'd stick more with budget in most home situations...so why not the Dell?

I currently have an XPS 1810 with i5-3337u (motherboard KTTVP). The motherboard will not detect the battery (common problem) and I need to replace it if I want the unit portable.

The KTTVP motherboard is rare and expensive. The lower power cpu i3-3227u (motherboard YN9W0) is readily available at a very reasonable price from many sources.
I am willing to accept the lower power of the i3-3227 cpu and am aware the cpu is part of the motherboard.
Question 1: Will the YN9W0 motherboard work properly in my system?
Question 2: Will the YN9W0 motherboard properly use the 32gb mSATA with the 500gb 2.5 SATA that the system already has.
Please do not respond unless you are certain.
Thank you.

Hello, all!

I am working for a school outside the US, and we are going through and improving our network. In the process, we require 2x 8-port managed switches. The main required functionality is VLAN management, gig speed, and manually choosing transmission speed (we've got some bad wiring here (another thing on my list for this year), and have had trouble negotiating a speed between a couple switches, so need to be able to set it manually). Other than that, there aren't a whole lot of requirements other than it needs to be <$100. A feature that would be nice would be SNMP (still haven't entirely wrapped my head around it, but that's one thing I am planning on tackling this year).

So, it looks like it is down to two switches:
HP 1810-8G v2 (J9802A):
http://www.amazon.com/HP-1810-8G-v2...&qid=1414028717&sr=8-1&keywords=HP+1810-8G+v2

NETGEAR ProSAFE GS108T (sounds like it's a v2):
http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-ProSA...4020945&sr=8-1&keywords=8-port+managed+switch

I am leaning heavily toward the Netgear for a few reasons... 1. Price. 2. We are already running an older 24-port Netgear switch for our core switch, so I am familiar with configuring the webgui (and some continuity would be nice). 3. I don't like the wording for the HP... "fixed-configuration." Does this mean that it cannot be configured as much as the Netgear? (it says you can configure the VLANs, but I am unsure about other aspects).

H... Read more

Answer:HP 1810-8G v2 vs Netgear ProSAFE GS108T

HP definitely. Hard to beat the lifetime warranty with overnight replacement (though that could be US only). It's called a fixed switch not on account of its configuration options, but because it has a fixed port count/types. There's no CLI on it and the web interface is pretty simple and straightforward. You'll be able to do all the things you've requested so far. You won't get much out of SNMP though if it's anything like the older 1800 series models.

In a home setup involving Crestron home automation/AV control and Lutron lighting control, I'm trying to accomplish the following network segmentation w/ VLANs on an HP ProCurve 1810-24G v2 (but I'm not sure it can be done):

- Currently the network is not segmented and has no VLANs
- I'd like to have the Lutron able to "talk to" the Crestron, but otherwise isolated from the rest of the network
- I'd like for the Crestron to be able to still connect to the Internet and the rest of the network

As far as I can tell, this is very similar to the example given in this well-written guide, but using different hardware, and exchanging the VoIP in the example for my Lutron segmentation:

http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/lanwan-howto/30071-vlan-how-to-segmenting-a-small-lan

Is the SRW2008 Linksys switch referred to there doing Layer 3 vs. Layer 2 on the ProCurve, and therefore more capable of doing this? Basically, I'd like to have something like this:

VLAN 1: Default/management
VLAN 2: Data
VLAN 3: Lutron

Port 1: Management [VLAN 1 & 2]
Ports 2 – 19, 21, 23: Main data network [VLAN 2]
Port 20: Lutron controller [VLAN 3]
Port 22: Crestron [VLAN 2 & 3]
Port 24: Uplink to router (AirPort Extreme) [VLAN 1, 2, 3]

I've tried tagging thusly:

VLAN 1 [Default]-- Untagged: 1, 24; Tagged: 2-23
VLAN 2 [Data]-- Untagged: 2-19, 21, 23; Tagged: 1, 22, 24; Excluded: 20
VLAN 3 [Lutron]-- Untagged: 20, 22; Tagged: 24; Excluded: ... Read more

Answer:ProCurve 1810-24G VLAN configuration help

The procurve can't do routing between VLAN's.

Maybe your router can, but I've never used an AirPort.

EDIT: It looks like AirPort routers don't even support VLANs, so it would appear you can't do any of the things you want to do. VLANS are out of the cards for you unless you get a better router.

Yes, I know the v1910 is a re-badged 3com Baseline Plus 2928. That is the reason for my inquiry. I suppose it is due to the acquisition by HP, but anyway, these are available under the 3com label on eBay for less than I can find a new 1810. Plus, the 3com one has more features, and I assume is why HP has given it a higher model number than the 1810 when they converted the model numbers. I want to play with some of the features that the v1910 has, that the 1810 does not. This is for a home office / home network setup.

Need a new L2 gigabit switch for my home network to replace my old Cisco 2940 / unmanaged netgear gigabit switch and I am looking at the above 3 switches on eBay as they are all within about $50 of each other at the moment.

I will need 802.3ad and basic vlan support, SFP uplinks for the fibre runs and for it to be quite quiet (not like my current Dell 5224 or Cisco 3560), SNMP for graphing the port use, maybe iSCSI (so flow control and jumbo packets)

I am pretty handy with IOS CLI and with HP CLI / GUI so config won't be an issue but I think I prefer IOS

I know the 1810 is silent, I have been told the 2960G isn't too loud but I have no idea how loud the 2824 is.

Any advice for me here [H]?

Answer:ProCurve 2824, 1810 or Cisco 2960G

2824 isn't all that noisy. If its in a basement or tucked away it won't be bad. I have one currently. It's a fairly old switch though and can be a bit picky about SFPs.

That sounds very much like the laptop's display is using the wrong screen resolution. It can frequently happen when a laptop comes out of standby or wakes from sleep. Next time it happens, try this:
In Windows 7, right-click an empty area of the Desktop and choose "Screen Resolution". In the "Resolution" section, ensure it's set to the "Recommended" mode which in your case appears to be 1366 x 768.

Does anyone know if the motherboard YN9W0 (for the i3 3227 cpu) will be a replacement to the factory board I have?

And when this error happens notebook shuts down with out booting. But in next try this error goes away and notebook boots up normally. This error happens only when I turn on the notebook after 2-3 hours of shutdown.I checked the service manual and it describe the error code as "The fan module not support".Could not understand its meaning as I did not changed the fan.I opened the notebook fan and check it, there is no dust on the fan.And it is working fine. however I cleaned it with air blower .but still having same problem.I will appreciate any help in this regard. Thank you.

Answer:SL400: Error Code 1810 Fan Error

You should call Lenovo phone support and schedule for warranty service. If nothing was changed/modified and an error shows, it is a sign that something is wrong internally.

I was prompted to update my Battery firmware I have a genuine battery in my Thinkpad edge E520 that is out of warrenty The firmware failed and disabled the battery so it is no longer operating How do i reverse this firmware or disable the battery bios check?

Answer:Battery firmware has just killed my battery. How do you justify pushing firmware that does this?

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Here it is the support site link for your model just in case.

I'm guessing that the computer is booting but the battery does not provide any charge, right?

I did not have that issue, but I'm just guessing, What will happen if you apply the battery firmware update again? You can download it manually from the support site: "Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Utility for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-..."

This is what it cames to my mind right now, I hope it helps.

my grandson as a mp3 player he wants to upgrade with firmware i found the firmware for his model at the mpman site downloaded it in a zip file but there wasn't any instructions on the site or in the file on how to install can anyone advise Thank you Dave

Answer:firmware

If you have not unzipped it, do that now, there may/should be a file, normally called README.txt (if not look for any file with a .txt etention). Hopefully this file will have instructions on how to use it, if not, let us know the name of the mp3 player and someone prob can sort your prob.Hope this helps.

I have a Intel 510 ssd and I looking to add another ssd. Can you have both if they have different firmware. I'm looking at several including Intel 320.
Will this confuse the motherboard bios or Windows 7?

Answer:2 SSD's 2 Different firmware?

I don't think it will give any problems just because of firmwares. After all, it's entirely internal to each device. As long as each one has the proper drivers and the motherboard recognizes each one, they should work.

It will leave you at 8.1.1. It is simply a firmware update to Cyan for Lumia devices.

Firmware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
In electronic systems and computing, firmware is a term often used to denote the fixed, usually rather small, programs and/or data structures that internally control various electronic devices. Typical examples of devices containing firmware range from end-user products such as remote controls or calculators, through computer parts and devices like hard disks, keyboards, TFT screens or memory cards, all the way to scientific instrumentation and industrial robotics. Also more complex consumer devices, such as mobile phones, digital cameras, synthesizers, etc., contain firmware to enable the device's basic operation as well as implementing higher-level functions.

I saw the phrase firmware tossed about on a message. What exactly is it?

Firmware is half software, half hardware. Usually it is software embedded permanently into a piece of hardware. Such as the software that runs a digital camera, or drives a USB networking cable.

I have Nero 5.5.10.9 installed on my computer and my CD-RW Burner is Imation. I used the Nero Info tool which showed [1.0] G:\CD-RW CDR 6S52 in the top left of the box and Type: CD-RW Recorder and Firmware Version: CDR 6S52.

I went on to the Nero site which states they will not accept responsibility for any firmware updates.

I havenít a clue what Iím supposed to do now. Itís taken me ages to get this far and in all honesty, I donít really know what I am doing. Is the firmware update supposed to be for Nero or Imation. Can anyone help me?

Question: Firmware for an AP

I have a couple of DLink 900AP's. One has the standard DLink firmware but the other has some specialist firmware for use with a commercial WiFi network.Does anyone know if it's possible to download the non-standard DLink firmware from the 900AP - so I can flash it to my other 900AP?

Answer:Firmware for an AP

No; I think you'd have to find it on the net. Search for whatever info you have even just its revision number. You can usually make backups of router/AP configurations, of course, but although the firwmare is sometimes saved along with it, it may not accept being ported across and you'd lose the other AP's settings in so doing.

Question: Firmware

I recently purchased an nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card with 512MB For an eight year old Dell Dimension 4600i (P4, 3G HT with a 128 card). As I didn?t think I was getting the full benefit of the new card I checked in BIOS. The maximum it goes to is 256 so I looked the Dell site and saw there were 4 updates, one being video, ok so I downloaded it, and then stopped. I have had a bad experience with firmware (a Plextor drive that refused to work after an update) as a result I am not sure whether to go ahead or not. Ok pathetic but please humour me, do the risks out way the benefits.
Oh, re. the HP on this PC, I noticed it is disabled in BIOS sorry better for a new thread perhaps.
Dave

Answer:Firmware

Now lets see if I understand. You have replaced the the original graphics card with a nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card.
From the Dell web site it only shows one update for the Bios but it does not state what it was for so should not be used.
Although it does have several driver updates for graphics cards these are not for the new card you have installed and should not be used. Go to the nVidia web site for new updated drivers.
From my memory the bios does not indicate how much memory the graphics card uses. I could be wrong.

well i understand it as a piece of software build into hardware. Examples of firmware are: bios's, video bios's etc.

Hi,I recently bought my first CD burner. It's a Sony Spessa USB Plus CRX100E/X2 drive. I found out that it can't quite burn an entire 80 min/700MB disk, but that there is supposedly a firmware update that fixes it. I downloaded a firmware update program from Sony's website (found here), and flashed the drive with the default firmware file (CDRW0008.BIN), but it didn't seem to do anything except change the driver to an EEPROM driver. I switched back to the original driver, and it was as if I had never done anything...The firmware program came with another BIN file, ZERO.BIN, so I tried flashing that. I guess that was a mistake, because now the drive doesn't work at all - it's recognized as a "non-specific QT processor with JG". I tried changing the driver back to the original again, but this time Windows won't use it. It just says that there are no compatible drivers for the device. I tried to flash the firmware with the program from Sony again, but now it doesn't recognize the drive as being compatible, so it won't flash it.I was hoping to get some support from Sony, but they informed me that I would have to pay more than I paid for the drive in the first place to get support. So, I hope someone here might have an idea of how I can fix it.

Answer:Is there any way to fix this firmware?

That is why the smarter people here do NOT recommend firmware or BIOS updates lightly. You can end up with a doorstop and no recourse. If the product is still under warranty and doesn't do what is advertised, take it back for a return or replacement with something that does.

Question: OEM DVD Firmware

Dvd disk drive won't run DVD's. Makes alot of clicking, spinning noises but wont read disks. Went to HKEY areas and changed some things recom by other forums. Didn't work. Told needed firmware upgrade. Unable to find firmware for Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A ATA Device because as near as I can find it's an OEM Device. Went back to Gateway(Notebook Manufacturer) and they don't have. Any suggestions? Ifu can't fix, I guess u install a new DVD Device or a new Notebook.
Was also told by Gateway I needed a Codec upgrade.

Answer:OEM DVD Firmware

The codec pack is easy enough- Techspot has what you need here http://www.techspot.com/downloads/775-klite-codec-pack-full.html
Install and then try running the discs.

How does the drive show up in the Device Manager ? No exclamation mark in a yellow triangle?
What DVD's won't it run-commercial (retail) movies, or discs you are attempting to burn ? If the latter, what brand of discs.

If it definitely requires a firmware update then it seem's you're out of luck as there are none as far as I can tell.

I have just noticed a reference where a person needs to update his DVD-RW firmware to a more recent version in order to be able to burn a specific type of disk. I think I am right in thinking that the firmware is burned into the device itself, in this case a DVD writer? Anyway assuming I am right, if you were to download a firmware update in the form of a zip file, when you extract it how would the data know where to go? In other words when you normally extract a zip file you are given the option of installing it to a specific part of your hard drive like your download folder for example. Just out of curiosity, would the firmware data know that it has to go on the DVD-RW EPROM chip? I assume it's an EPROM chip?I have never had the need to do this myself but I am intrigued by the method of how it is actually achieved! Anyone out there who has ever updated their firmware and if so is it an easy thing to do or do you have to be technically minded? I appreciate your help.

Answer:Updating CD/DVD ROM firmware

You will need to download not just the firmware update but also a small program to run it.The update run program is usually also on the manufacturers site.I did this for My BTC DVD burner in my old computer.Rember the old adage."IF IT AINT BROKE DONT TRY AND FIX IT".A failed firware uodate can render the equipment useless.

Noob here!

I just got a new Dell XPS 8300. I will be placing a Crucial M4 ssd in it to be my main drive. I've been reading up on what to do, and my main concern so far is the firmware update. It sounds slightly more complicated than I'd like, and I am trying to decide if it's definitely something I need to do before installing Windows7 on the ssd.

Would I be a fool to just install it as-is, with whatever firmware comes on the drive?

I will be installing Windows7 Home Premium on it, but then will be paying for the upgrade to unlock it to Professional.

Thanks!

I need a firmware to help boost the wireless power of my router. Antennas are NOT an option. I tried looking online but I couldn't find any that did that. Help please!?!?!

Answer:wgr614v5 firmware HELP!!!

What kind of router you have? It it is Linksys, there there is a good chance there is one for it.

Keep in mind, RF communications is a two way street. Just by adding power to router you may not solve your problem.

Immagine you and your freind are 1 mile apart, talking to each other via powered loudspeakers, one at each end. Now, you say I want to increase our talking range and I am going to make my speaker 4 times louder. Then you go 4 miles away. Your friend will be able to hear you. You will not be able to hear your freind. He is still on low power, suitable for only 1 mile range of communications. In this situation you have an UNBALLANCED set up which is in one direction adequate and in the other dirction it is NOT. Do you get my point?
