Laptop won't turn on- Lenovo Thinkpad x230 tablet

Question: Laptop won't turn on- Lenovo Thinkpad x230 tablet

Hello, I'm having some trouble with turning on my laptop. The problem originally started when some keys on my keyboard stopped working. I cleaned the keys, restarted my laptop, tried a previous restore point and then did a hard reset after nothing worked to fix my laptop. After hard resetting, I tried turning on my laptop and it did not turn on. So far, I've plugged in my laptop into the adaptor, plugged the adaptor directly into the wall outlet, and removed the battery and plugged in the laptop. The one thing I have noticed with my laptop is that when I plug in the adaptor, the battery and sleep lights turn on for a moment, then the sleep light turns off, and the battery light will stay on momentarily but then it will blink off after a few seconds. What else should I do? Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, My Thinkpad X230 tablet screen is not truning on.  It just shows the dark blank screen. The power button is on, all other indicators are green.I have tried removing the battery, holding Fn button etc. Can someone help to resolve this issue please.. Thank You.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad X230 Tablet - Display Problem

If it is under warranty, call for service, rather than dealing with it. The first step is to unplug it and remove the battery. Press the power button 5 times, holding it for 10 seconds on the last push. Put it back together; plug it in, and try again.

Touch screen, pen, and usb/bluetooth imputs work fine but the trackpad stops working several seconds after bootup/log in. I've removed and reinstalled the latest lenovo trackpad drivers which fixes the problem for several seconds and then the trackpad/touch pad stop working again. After every restart again they work for a few seconds and then stop. Are there any other possible sollutions?

Answer:Lenovo X230 tablet Thinkpad/trackpad not functioning

welcome to the community!

please check to make sure your trackpad is not disabled in your bios.

for reference, on my t60p, i have the trackpad disabled in bios because i never use it ( trackpoint evangelist here ). regardless, when i'm at the windows 7 login screen, my trackpad is active. as soon as i'm logged in and i've got a windows desktop, the trackpad is inactive. i'm not sure why i have that small window where it works, but there it is, fwiw.

cheers.

Hi. Recently, I have noticed that wifi connection in Tablet mode in my Thinkpad X230 Tablet is significantly slower than in laptop mode. Sometimes, it completely disconnected to the network. I tried to test with Speedtest. net and download a file via Internet Download manager. I have thinkpad x230 tablet, and I have mixed feeling about it. It is a quite powerful one, does most of the job but have too many design flaws - broken rubber latch after a while and rubber buffers in the bottom etc.,  I hate the new gen x240 laptop, especially the X series convertible laptop is discontinued. Stupid, in my opinion, yoga design. I, no way, want to flip the keyboard to any surface. Especially on a field trip. X240 discontinues Express Card slot, no thunderbolt, no digitizer. The removal of trackpoint 3 click buttons, which were combined with the trackpad. People complain a lot when they accidentally click the trackpad while typing. I am a trackpoint person, not trackpad person. So the removal was **** retarded, anti consumer, anti Thinkpad legacy!Pls, see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb7p3VkQCOo. I did not made this video but 100% agree with this guy.  In addition, it seems to me that newer generations Intel core processor (4th and upcoming 5th) was weeker than ivy bridge processor because Ivy Bridge processors are full power 35W, now, everything is low powered to save the battery life. I have a few questions: 1.Is there anyway, or any company that can make a better thinkpad x230 tablet screen (say upgrading the screen from 1366x768 to higher resolution, improving wacom pen digitizer on the edges 2. Is there any laptop on the market that has express card or thunderbolt, touch screen, digitize... Read more

No problem. The system just ran diskchk - a windows utility to check the integrity of your drive. That normally happens after an unusual shutdown.

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and all went well except for the screen brightness issue. Anyone have any ideas where I can simply increase this as I have searched everywhere for screen brightness, even BIOS for any setting for display. I have latest update to display driver. I have two other laptops and each shows much brighter than this one and I am surely disappointed in this display. Not sure if it is because this screen is touch enabled and also works off keyboard that could be the issue and a separate setting could be involved on the touch side of the display as it does work with a stylus pen or touch also. thanks and   I hope I can get this brightness to increase somewhat as it is too hazy for me.

Hi everyone:I am considering to upgrade my wireless adapter for my laptop. Currently I am using Thinkpad X230 Tablet with Intel Centrino Wireless N 2200. My laptop has bluetooth. I have questions:1. Does the bluetooth come with my wireless adapter? I mean that If I upgrade my wireless card, do I have to buy a card with wifi and bluetooth? 2. I am considering to upgrade to Intel 62205 AN. This is the linkhttp://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=INT-62205&show=p Is that worth to upgrade? (functionality, price, ...)  Is the product compatible with my current Thinkpad X230T?  3. Can I install 2 cards and run silmultanerously . It sounds greedy but I know a software, named "connectify"; it allows laptop to connect many networks silmutanerously, for example: 4G, Lan, wifi.  4. I see some people mention about Intel Ultimate 6300. What additional functionalities do I get compared to 62205  or Intel 2200? Thank you.

Answer:Upgrade Wireless Adapter for Thinkpad X230 Tablet

1. Bluetooth and wireless cards are separate on the ThinkPad X220, X220t, X230, and X230s. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8276508687/in/set-721576320273504682. You would need an Intel 6205 card with Lenovo FRU number on it, generic one won't work. 2200 only operates in the 2.4 ghz bandwidth, while the 6205 can operate in both 2.4 and 5 ghz bandwidth. So the question is does your router have 5 ghz bandwidth and support MIMO?3. No you can't. The WWAN/mSATA slot would give an error message saying an unauthorized card is installed (1801 error). 4. 6300 card has 3 x 3 setup and operates in 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz range. Max speed of 450 mpbs6205 has 2 x 2 setup, 2.4/5 ghz range, and max speed of 300 mbps.2200 has 2 x 2 setup, but operates in the 2.4 ghz range and max speed of 300 mbps.

I have been waiting for one year for the x230 tablet with the win8 installed, but unfortunately, Lenovo did nothing's, why it have to wait, rather than upgrade my self, I believe the current x230t ,s some function will not work , as Lenovo also remove win8 from their websiteX230 tablet as a top level business laptop without windows8 is unreasonable, as win8 already available for so long timeI also believe Lenovo will have to do something to produce x230t with windows8, or new x240t with win8, because too many thinkpad fans waiting for that

Answer:Why thinkpad x230 tablet without windows 8 installed from the factory? What is the real reason?

To be a windows 8 certified device with touch screen feature, it has to have at least 5 points touch. The X220t and X230t uses a 2 point touch screen, so they do not meet the minimum requirement for Windows 8.

Realized I posted this in the wrong place and it really belongs here I decided to look around to make sure my computer was even able to run an external GPU and found I have hit a wall. I flashed my BIOS to the newest version (like 2.67 or something?) but my TOLUD is 3.5 GB (dfa00000). I thought the BIOS update was supposed to fix this? I only have 8GB of RAM so the 16GB problem shouldn't affect me either? Anyone know what might be wrong? When reading some forums I saw that people who updated their BIOS were able to fix their problem as long as they only had 8 gigs of ram, which is why im confused I still have DFA00000. Will it still work regaurdless of this? I thought the update was supposed to fix this.

I have an issue that is plaguing my ThinkPad X230 Tablet. I cannot afford to be without it for a week to send it into the depot and am not sure they will be able to replicate the issue even if I do. Two things are happening. Tablet is placed in the docking station. If I turn it on, it will lock up at the ThinkPad screen and never fully load Windows (Win 7 64-bit). If I take it out of the docking station, hard crash it, and then restart, it will start right up. I then wait for the Windows home screen and place back in the docking station. When I do this, TSM Resident immediately quits. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X230 (which I love dearly) and have a few question about ports and booting.  I would first like to verify that the port on the left side of the laptop directly above one of the USB ports is indeed an ExpressCard 54.  I have searched the web, but have yet to find a definite answer, and my user manual simply stated "ExpressCard."  Furthermore, I would like to know if it is possible to boot an operating system from said port using an ExpressCard 34 SSD (64GB).  I have the intention of installing openSUSE 12.3 to the potential SSD and be able to boot from it.  I greatly appreciate any help.  I  would post an image of said port, but I am being told the image file is much too large.

I have a 4 year old Lenovo Thinkpad X230 computer.  Since I upgraded to Windows 10 (two years ago?) my computer has randomly shut off with no warning.  There doesn't seem to be a pattern with regard to when or how this happens.  The computer starts normally every time.  This can happen upwards of 5 or 6 times in an hour (although sometimes it can go several days without shutting off). In the last year (since June 2016), the computer has been evaluated by three different technicians on three different occasions (June, October, January).  Each found no hardware issues, no issues with fuzz/dust, no obvious software issues, no malware or other viruses.  Personally, I have explored the answer on the internet and fiddled with the settings relating to sleep mode (among other suggestions) and nothing seems to have worked.  I recently was advised to revert to the original windows 10, undoing all the updates and additional installations that I've put on the computer.  I did this, and miraculously it helped (although it still shut off twice since then.  This was in February).  In the last two weeks, I was forced to upgrade back to normal and the problem has returned.  Additionally, the first person who looked at my computer (back in June 2016), told me that this was aparently a common problem with Windows 10 and that the only way to fix it was to revert to Windows 8.   I would like to not have to do this, if poss... I have a Lenovo X230, running Kubuntu 14.04. When I disconnect the slice battery at the bottom the system resets, it's very annoying. What's worse is that it seems like jostling the system, also can cause it to power cycle. I don't really have a need to remove the slice battery very often, but essentially if I put the laptop into standby, and put it in by laptop knapsack, the system is off after I get where I'm going. Thoughts? I saw somewhere that allegedly, when you unlock the battery, some thinkpad utility gets notified to switch the power, I wonder if the hotplug is a software only solution, and not doable in standby. Steve Ramage

I would need to see it to be sure, but my guess is that the hard disk was logically damaged.  That means the boot record or partition information was wiped out.  It could also be a disk hardware error.  Do you have a backup?

Hello. I have a Thinkpad X230. I'm trying to drive video to a Samsung LCD TV via the mini displayport, with a mini displayport  --> hdmi adaptor (i've tried two adaptors now). The X230 detects the the Samsung TV when connected, both in the Sound and in the Graphics Properties. You can hear the connect / see the PC screen flash when the cable is plugged in. Unfortunately I can't get any sound or video on the TV. (I just tried connecting to a Dell Monitor and was able to get it to work.) The TV takes HDMI from my Dell laptop just fine on the same cable/input to the TV.The other problem is that in trying to adjust settings, now when I plug in the HDMI cable via the adaptor, the PC screen goes blank, it seems to be trying to make the TV primary, and the TV is getting the signal, so I have to pull the cable out to get the PC display back. Any ideas on setting / adjustments? ThanksAlan

I wanted to give my impressions of the Lenovo TPT2. First off, the model I have is the 3679-27U, this means that it has the digitizer pen, windows 8 pro, no NFC, no 3G/4G antenna (though there is a slot for a SIM card). Let me also be frank about my biases concerning tablets. I am not a voracious media consumer. If Im going to watch a movie or TV program I prefer to do so with a large screen TV in the comfort of my living room. As far as checking email, messaging, twitter, and facebook that is why I have a smartphone. Why do I need another piece of electronic equipment that does the exact same thing as my smartphone? In my opinion iPADs and Android tablets are really only good for media consumption, they give you a slightly larger screen to run the same apps that your phone runs. If Im going to buy a tablet it has to provide some functionality that my phone or laptop cannot, otherwise it is a waste of money. Therefore, a tablet had to be able to run productivity programs: MS Office, Photoshop, Illustrator, GB-Stats, etc That meant a tablet using either the Atom processor or a Core processor (i3, i5). This left out not only Apple and Android but also any tablets running Windows 8 RT. Obviously one the major advantages of a tablet is its size and portability. My laptop is a comfortable size and fairly easy to carry around, so what advantage would a tablet give me. The answer is battery life. In order to be practical I would need a laptop with a significantly longer run time tha... Read more

Answer:The Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2: Everything a tablet should be

Nice review. I have had my TPT2 for a little over a month now. I have used it extensively as my only device away from the office and have been able to do so without adjusting my computing needs too much. The only drawback that I have had is an under-powered USB port where i am unable to attach my external hard drive. Anything that I knew I was going to need for the day or trip I load onto a USB stick and problem averted.
Edit: I suppose I should mention that my usage is not too intense in terms of productivity. My programs of choice are typically the Microsoft Office package. I do a lot with excel, word, and power point and so far, I haven't run into any issues. I'm in the process of getting a new monitor for home and i'll have a better idea what it's like running a multiple monitor setup from the TPT2 and mini HDMI to HDMI connection. At this point I have a BT keyboard and Mouse which I have been using for the past few days with no issues (except when the battery is close to dying in the keyboard and it behaves as if it is possessed).
I might be one of the lucky ones but haven't had any issues with the wifi signal, sleep issues others have experienced, etc. Outside of the USB and mini HDMI to VGA issues, I'm still completely satisfied. If Wacom could update the drivers to enhance the accuracy of pen input, then I'd be completely satisfied given my particular usage patterns.

So I had a problem with my T500's backlight initially and long story short, disassembling the computer has now caused the problem in the title. Whenever I plug in the battery/charger and push the power button, the fan will spin and the hdd will whirr a bit, but then after about 3 seconds, the fan will stop and the hdd will click off and cease whirring. The computer will no longer respond to the power button regardless of how many times nor how long the power button is held. I'm looking directly at the wires that carry power. Everything seems to be plugged in. I did the lenovo power trick (IE the 10 one second presses followed by the 30 second long press) and the computer does the 1-3-3-1 beep when I take out the RAM. The monitor is not plugged into it in any way, shape, or form. I do not know if this affects it. However, I have tried attaching the monitor and it still does this. Is there a piece that may have been knocked loose or something? I'm willing to try anything right now because at this point it's a literal brick now.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T500 will turn on for roughly 3 seconds, then turn off and stay off.

Hi npesina, welcome to the forums,

there could be different reasons for the system behaving the way you describe, my suggestions;

remove all hard, SSD and optical drives to see if you experience the same,
remove all RAM, without replacing the drives, and test to see if you receive a system beep code,
remove all components which had previously been removed to test again.

The ultimate test would be to remove everything attached to the mainboard including the CMOS (BIOS) battery excluding the power socket, CPU and the fan. When you attach the power cable the system should come to life, the fan should run and beep codes sound.  After that its really just a case of putting the system back together one component at a time testing inbetween each component replacement, leave the main battery and CMOS battery until last to save having to always connect / disconnect the keyboard in order to turn the system on.

If at any point you experience the same issue as now it may well be that the component you replaced at that point or it's attachment socket on the mainboard  is the culprit.

Hi there, My new ThinkPad X230 arrived today. While exploring the system, I noticed that I don't know the password for the MEBx Login, which I am accessing by pressing CTRL-p at system startup. I don't recall setting this at all today. If I did, it would have been while playing with the Lenovo/Intel programs when I was logged into Windows 7, and I would have set the password to blank (empty password field). But an empty password field isn't working in the MEBx Login. What is the password, and how can I reset it? I cannot access the "Intel (R) ME General Settings" or "Intel (R) AMT Configuration" menu items, as they seem to e I saw in another forum post for a T series ThinkPad that the default password is "admin": this is not the case for my system. Thanks,mosno.

Xp tablet was never offered to the general public for sale.  It was only made available to the manufacturers.

So, the only way to get xp tablet pc on your tablet will be to obtain a set of restore discs.  You can try to obtain a set through Lenovo support.  If you are unable to purchase or if they are unavailable, you can get them from the link.  I've bought a few sets of restore discs over the years from them and haven't had any problems.

I need a thinkpad tablet that has a 14'' or above display. X230t, helix, twist all have only 12'', too small for work purposes. x-1 carbon touch has 14'', but it's only touch not tablet. I need tablet because I'd like to read pdfs and write notes on them. Touch is vertical and therefore not convenient for this purpose. Does Lenovo have any plan to market a 14'' thinkpad tablet any time soon? Thanks.

Answer:Does Lenovo have any plan for a 14'' thinkpad tablet?

Not sure how much of a help this is to you (it's a work-around). However, with a separate/detachable keyboard option (available for most tablets of any brand) as well as a separate (non-dockable) accessory pen, you can draw and physically type on most any tablet now-adays. I've seen a ton of pressure sensitive, aftermarket pen designs on Kickstarter, similar sites and elsewhere, that use various technologies to enable drawing and writing for just about any device.  It's not elegant, it's not ideal, but it's worth considering if your in the market for a new machine.  Probably worth testing first/reading significant reviews on each piece before you buy as well.  But it may open up many options for you.

Hi all.
I am running into some trouble and would like to know if anyone here is having the same issue. Hopefully, I'm not the only one with a Thinkpad Tablet 2 here.
I went to update my tablet to Windows 10 yesterday and ran into a few problems. Windows 10 was not downloading correctly and I would get a Windows Update error. Finally, when I got up this morning the update was ready. However, I have now hit a new snag. Hence why I come to you good sirs.
When I click on the update icon on the system tray, it gives me an error. The screen states:
"Unfortunately, this PC is unable to run Windows 10."
"We're sorry to let you know that this PC can't upgrade to Windows 10 because one or more things are incompatible."
Then on the right, it states:
"Compatibility issue:
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator
The display manufacturer hasn't made your display compatible with Windows 10. Check with the manufacturer for support."
Here's a screenshot:
Can anyone tell me what I can do about this? I've already gone to Intel and Lenovo and updated everything they have and still nothing. Would mounting and running the ISO work? Would anyone even recommend that considering the warning about incompatibility?
Thanks in advance and I hope to hear from you all soon.

Twice now, my Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet Digitizer Pen - stylus has dropped out of the tablet only to be found later on my family room floor.   Given the expensive price tag on these pens (Office Depot has for $65), it would be nice if these pens could be locked into place so that they don't come up "missing" for whatever reason.   Has anyone else found a way to keep better track of their pen, short of not putting it in the holder on the tablet? Joe

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet Digitizer Pen - stylus

Have you tried to tether it to your tablet?  There is a hole in the stylus clip and the tablet that you can use.  Beyond that, you can send it in to have the stylus catch replaced and see if that helps.

Hello, The fan in my lenovo X220 tablet stops working after awhile from turning the device on (after around 10 minutes). This causes the temperature of the processor to always be above 90 degree C (using TPFanControl V 0.61). The fan control software shows that the fan is turning at 4060 RPM, but there is absolutly no air coming out! I recently re-applied the thermal paste, and the problem (fan turning off) "might" have started after re-applying the thermal past - I did it in a local computer service shop. I tried to update the BIOS, but the battery does not work and the installation does not start (it gives me an error) because of that. I have been using my X220 for six years with no problems and I currently run windows 10. Please let me know if you have any idea on how to fix this issue.

Answer:Lenovo X220 Tablet Fan Turn Off after few minutes

There are only 2 parts involved - the fan and the motherboard.  If the fan bearing gets hot and seizes, it would spin at start-up to avoid the fan error message.  Fans are cheaper than motherboards, so if it were mine, I would try a new fan.

Answer:Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14, wifi problem on tablet mo...

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14?
Are you using Windows 10?

I may suggest you first to try to update the Wifi drivers and maybe some other of the system driver of you Yoga.
Here are my general tips:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

After that we can try a little bit more. For example I also like to test it on some other Wifi networks just to be sure it is not a compatibility issue with the Wifi Router.

Hi, I just discovered that many color displaying problems in software like "photoshop" or most simply "windows live viewer"  was due to the "Lenovo thinkpad LCD Monitor" profile named "TPLCD.icm"In the color management panel of the configuration panel I had to add "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" profile and define it as default to obtain normal color in those software. If anyone knows witch profile to use for my Thinkpad X201 tablet it would be nice, because I can imagine that the sRGB profile is not the most efficient one for the X201 monitor. Thank you for your help(excuse my bad english)

I currently use a Lenovo ThinkPad S1 Yoga, and have recently upgraded the 64-bit OS from Windows 8.1 to 10.Since then I have been experiencing issues where ?Tablet Mode? will activate suddenly and randomly while I am using my ultrabook in laptop mode. This is especially frustrating because it often occurs while I am using the keyboard which will then be disabled, and cannot be re-enabled. I have attempted to turn on/off the various Tablet Mode settings ? ?Make Windows more touch-friendly??, ?When I sign in...?, ?When this device automatically??, ?Hide app icons??, but no pair of settings seemed to work. In the end, I am forced to reboot, which is the only solution that resolves the matter. What steps can I take to resolve this matter once and for all without having to restart the system constantly?

Answer:Spontaneous Tablet Mode w/ lenovo thinkpad s1 yoga

Hi

In my case I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and it took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on it. I went updating the driver over time until it get stable.

I also have some settings similar to you, but mine (for example)  sometimes switches to tablet mode when I close the lid, but when I open it Windows change very fast to laptop mode, so it does not bother me.

I can suggest you to try to update your drivers, here are some of my tips to update the drivers on a Thinkpad when going to Windows 10.

These are some of my tips to update the drivers of your Thinkpad:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

If you have more experience installing and uninstalling driver, there are some other things you can do, but those options os AS IS outside Lenovo's suggestion.
1) There is DriverEasy that offers a decent for free scanning of your device and shows you which drivers can be updated from their database.
2) According to your machine devices you have the Intel Driver Update Utility and the AMD Driver Update Utility, sometimes it can help... Read more

Hi,
i update my tablet to windows 10 from 8.1, but all driver are not working well. The network, wifi, the buttons, the touchscreen and the audio. I tried all the driver in the Lenovo drivers webpage, but no one works even if they are for windows 10.
any ideas?

Answer:How can I get the driver on my Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2 working on Windows 10?

i've heard that thinkpad t2 doesn't handly w10 because of issue with the intel video driver, most drivers should work, go to lenovo page and install w8.1 drivers that maybe resolv the error, if not, go to windows update and see if there's any driver update, download and restart the lenovo.
if not, you should go back to 8.1 maybe it's for the best, also do you have the latest bios firmware? look for me in fb if you have any questions, i'm seba rodriguez.

I purchased a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 a few months ago and I voluntarily purchased the three-year extended warranty because I had heard such great things about Lenovo's repair services and warranty services.  Many people had told me that the warranty services were top-notch and frustration free.  Not true so far in my experience.  First, the screen crack started out as a hairline crack.  I did not drop the laptop or in any way cause the problem.  It just appeared one day and then got worse.  I spoke with Lenovo and they sent me a box to send it to them for the repair, but then they sent it back to me unfixed.  They did not even attempt to fix the crack and told me that they would require my credit card number to repair the screen and that it would cost no less than $900.  This is nearly twice the price of the laptop itself as purchased new.  The Lenovo technician apparently thought that I had caused the crack in the screen and nothing I said could change the technician's false belief that the problem had actually occurred through no fault of my own and might actually be a manufacturer's problem.  I am not happy with Lenovo's handling of this matter so far and wanted to see if others had had similar problems.  Another problem is that if Lenovo does not fix the laptop, then I have a 2 and half year remaining warranty that I paid for that will now be for a laptop that does not even work.  I am now stuc... I wish it hand a dockable keyboard similar to the Samsung and Asus Win 8 x86 tablets, but 11.6" seems to be too big and hefty to use primarily in "tablet mode". Something lighter and thinner than the iPad seems to be a perfect tradeoff for a smaller screen...for me anyway.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Won't Turn On

The 1 long, 2 short beeps error sounds like a classic case of nVidia failure. This effects units with nVidia graphics built before 08/08, but most failed units date from 08/02 and prior (2008/febuary). Without a lot more information from you, I can't be sure if you have an effected unit or not, but it's highly probable. If you would like some help fixing it, the first thing I'd need is your full model and serial (send in private message, serials aren't allowed in forum). Also, just so your aware, "if" you do have a failed nVidia chip, it would require replacing the system board to fix it.

Assuming your system has nVidia graphics, it sounds like you have a failed GPU. There is a very long discussion about this problem, and the only real solution is a system board replacement. Since an updated nVidia chip was only produced for 3months, machines (or system boards) with the improved chip are rare and difficult to find. Most people consider doing an Intel conversion, which would require replacing your nvidia based board with an Intel board, and matching heatsink. I recommend you read the last five pages of the topic posted by Mark Lenovo in this forum, we've discussed this at great length there and it covers most of your low cost options.

Hi All,I've bought LENOVO X230 THINKPAD TABLET, i7-3520M, MULTI-TOUCH on eBay, and I got it with a broken motherboard.  I couldn't turn it on when I opened the box, and I gave it to IBM's service in Israel. Now they just told me that they don't have the part, and they are waiting to get it from the US only next week. It means that I will use my NEW computer only 2 weeks after I got it!It relly make me feel very disappointed from Lenovo's quality! Does it make sense? I needed it for work and now I'm working with a terrible computer! How is it happen to a company like Lenovo that they sell a new expensive computer with a broken motherboard??? Don't they have a quality control ? Do I deserve a compensation?

Hi,

This laptop has previously bluescreened so all the drivers have been updated as much as possible but it is now bluescreening again multiple times a day.

I have attached the .dmp file as I was unable to run the extra software.

I have put it through windbg but it points to ntkrnlmp.exe which isn't to helpful

Can anyone shed a bit more light on what may be causing the bluescreen?

Many Thanks!!

Answer:Thinkpad / Notebook / Tablet / Laptop

Thinkpad, laptop and notebook, mean virtually the same thing. i.e. portable computer. (thinkpad is a range of laptops by I.B.M now Lenovo).A tablets interface is normally by an electronic stylus (pen/pencil), used to touch different parts of the "tablets" screen, to open and use appliances, and is a great boon to budding artists, who can draw freehand with the stylus, instead of being hindered by the useage of a mouse.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X240 that suddenly turned off whilst I was using it. It was charging at the time, and I'm fairly certain that the laptop itself didn't overheat. I've tried disconnecting the battery and ac adapter, holding the power button, connecting them back on and pressing the power button but nothing. It would be great if someone could give me some help, thanks.

My laptop doesn't turn on anymore. Here is what I have to do to turn it on (I tried many sequence of steps, but this is the only one that works every time):-Disconnect battery and CMOS battery-Press power button ten times, then press and hold for 30 seconds-Connect power adaptor and press power button At this point, my laptop turns on, but I have to reset my time and date in BIOS (of course this is normal since I disconnected the CMOS batter). Once I turn my laptop on, my batter shows that it is charging and it is at 100%. I dual boot and both Ubuntu and Windows 8.1 show the batter charging at 100%.As soon as I unplug my AC adaptor, the laptop turns off again and I have to repeat the sequence above again to turn it on. This happens consistently. However, if I shutdown my laptop the right way without unplugging the AC adaptor at any point, it turns back on normally. This happens of both my Linux and Windows OS. What I've tried:-Uninstalling battery drivers and restarting my laptop-Updating to the latest power management drives from this Lenovo websiteI also read that some HP laptops have software issues that doesn't allow the laptop to switch from AC adaptor mode to battery mode. I believe this might be the issue I'm seeing, but I couldn't find a way to check this setting. I don't think this last detail is related, but when I shutdown Windows, I see a message saying:Closing 1 app and restartingAsusSGPLusBTServerThis app is preventing you f rom restartingAlo... Hello,

It has been some time since I have been to sevenforums. I have missed you guys!

I was here almost every hour on the hour back when I built my PC and was installing windows7 for the first time. Now I have a new laptop and I would like some expert advice!

I bought a new, to me, Lenovo X230 Thinkpad recently and it came with windows7 installed. I am a person who enjoys simplicity, uncluttered space, and efficiency. In my desktop, and overall in my OS. Are there any tips, or guidelines for trimming down many of the programs and extraneous applications that come along with nearly every manufacturers' computers today? Should I reinstall a clean version of windows7? Is that possible with only the recovery partition on the laptop?

For example, I don't need 2 battery power applications. Either disable or remove the windows battery manager, or the Lenovo. Things like that.

I would also like to remove and backup the recovery partition from the laptop, but it doesn't have an optical drive. Then I could have more space, and only one partition. Not sure the best way to go about this. I have an external drive that I can backup the partition to.

If you want any more information about the current state of the laptop, just ask! I enjoy conversing and learning from the good people here.

Thanks again guys... glad to be back!

Answer:How do I turn on the wireless on my Lenovo T400 Thinkpad?

Two things to check:
1. There is a small slide switch along one edge of your ThinkPad that turns the wireless (and Bluetooth, etc.) radios on/off. Make sure it's ON. You should see a green indicator.
2. Use the Fn-F5 key combination to bring up a software applet. Verify that "801.11 Wireless radio" is ON.

If that doesn't work then make sure you have the correct device drivers installed for wireless support. Run ThinkVantage System Update to download/install them if necessary.

I have restarted my ThinkPad and it turned off. After few seconds I tried turning it back on however the power button light kept on turning on and off. I have realised that the laptop is turning on and then off because I could hear the fan. Laptop was also making a weird high pitch noise while it was trying to turn on.

Hello guys. I have a 2-in-1 Laptop (see My System Specs) and I believe that it is not automatically turning into tablet mode when I remove it from the Keyboard Dock. Have any ideas why this is so?

Also, I don't know if this could be the cause of the problem:

Two keyboards and mice, which are exactly identical to each other (checked their driver version etc.)

To show on screen display while using the additional keys, you have to install hot key feature application in your system.

Hello. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E420 that today stopped turning on. I've tried just about everything (reseating HD/RAM/CMOS Battery/etc.) with no luck. I tried unpluggin everything, holding the power button, and doing the thing where you press the power button 11 times and hold for 30 seconds also with no luck. I called Lenovo and they didn't seem to interested in helping me even though this is a known issue that Lenovo has ackoleded in a previous post. I'm not interested in paying any repair fees as it's Lenovo's issue. I'm not paying for their mistakes. Any help is appriciated.

Hi guys, I need your help to fix this computer. I have experience as a technician, but I'm stuck trying to fix this laptop. When I turn on the laptop, it does not matter if it's on battery only, plugged it (with or without battery), it only turns the Bluetooth, the one that looks like a z, and the battery (green because it's charged) lights on. A blank screen last for about 10 to 15 minutes, and then the Thinkpad logo appears and everything goes as normal. I've done:-Update the BIOS-Removed battery and press the On button for 30 seconds.-I did the procedure described in the link below and still nothinghttp://jackngblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/solved-slow-bootup-with-blank-screen-on.html I even disable the Intel AMT in the BIOS thinking that it could be the issue, but still nothing. I've googled the tittle I wrote and a lot of things appears, but not exactly this issue, the one that was near was the third one I tried. I searched here and I did not find anything like it yet. Please help, Thank you very much for any guide.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E550 - Turn ON keyboard backlight?

Good day and welcome to the community.

Does your spacebar show this icon: ?

If so, please try holding the Fn key and then tapping the spacebar.
If your spacebar doesn't have that icon, then, in my experience, you don't have a backlit keyboard.

Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2½" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2½" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

I have the most unbelievably annoying problem. I have the Thinkpad Yoga 11e, if I go to tablet mode the screen works as expected and the first time you do this upon a fresh boot, it will work properly. However, once you go back to laptop mode the mouse/keyboard are disabled and you can only use the touch screen. Occasionally, you can flip it back to tablet mode and the mouse/keyboard start working again (incorrect as well).  I tried a full system recovery, the problem still exists. The only solution I have found to fix this is usually to put the laptop to sleep, or to reboot. Some of the time it won't fix the issue and I have to just keep trying to eithe rreboot/sleep/wake it back up.  This has to be the worst problem I can possibly imagine having with a laptop like this. I only purchased it to use it in tablet and laptop mode, I switch it a lot, and it simply can't do it.  Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

Answer:Thinkpad 11e shuts off keyboard and mouse incorrectly when going from tablet to laptop and back

I am currently working with around 10 machines that have a similar issue to yours.  I am a Certified Lenovo Self Maintainer.  My issue so far is only related to machines that I have ordered and replaced a System board on for various other reasons.  IE:  A couple of them would not turn on or do anything and problem only occurred after replacing system board sent from lenovo. My exact issue which I can replicate on any machine I have replaced a system board is as follows. Computer turns on and allows me to update the Serial number using the Lenovo Hardware Maintenance disk.  After rebooting from updating the serial number windows will begin to load.  During loading you will get updating devices and then as soon as it gets about to the log in screen the computer will flip the screen 90 degrees like its in tablet mode and the keyboard and touch pad will no longer work.  This problem will persist as far as the keyboard and touchpad even in bios although the screen orientation is correct.  I am only able to get the keyboard and mouse to function again by shutting the machine off pulling the hard drive out and turning on then the keyboard and mouse will again function after shutting off again and putting the drive back in.  I have also tracked part of the problems to the I2C driver in that I did a complete fresh install of windows everything worked after installing all software except the touch screen and the... Hi I recently bought a Lenovo X201 Series Laptop but the screen is cracked it has a touchscreen interface I would like to know can I replace the touchscreen with a 12.1inch LED or LCD Screen as I dont want to spend to much on a touch screen details of laptop is below Product ID: 2985DMG Specs: Corei7 CPU,500GB Hard Drive 4GB Ram 12.1inch Touch screen.

Answer:Lenovo X201 Series Tablet/Laptop

Hi,there is a lot matrices are installed into x201t. Models also depend of the backlight type - LED or CCFL. I'm not sure whether any supported matrices models are compatible with your laptop. Also there are different LCD cable assembly and LCD rear cover assembly depending of the backlight type.To ensure what matrice you have and what's compatible check out on Lenovo' site parts list of your laptop by its [laptop] serial number. Support site doesn't answer a question by MTM only.I think it's impossible to fit non touch matrice into the tablet because of the different size (width). Compare the width of x201 and x201t.

UPD
Service parts DB says your laptop has 12.1-in. WXGA LCD panel, LED backlight (300-nit LCD), FRU 45N6092 or 45N5388.
