Toshiba Satellite A215 power issue

Question: Toshiba Satellite A215 power issue

Ok, I am fully aware of the black screen of death issue, which I have along with everyone else who didn't pay attention when buying this comp, but this morning I tried to turn it on and I get a blinking battery light, but nothing else. I took out the battery and tired with just the AC Adapter plugged in, no blinking light, nothing. With the adapter unplugged and the battery in, I still get the blinking light. So I figured it had to be the adapter. I went out and bought a new adapter, but no dice. Anyone else have this problem? Know any possible way to fix this or what's causing it?

Preferred Solution: Toshiba Satellite A215 power issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I need help with my toshiba satellite a215-s4747. There is no power when I press the power button when I plug in a AC adapter. no any light on or blinking.
I disassembled it, remove ram, modem, hot-sink, fan, cpu. I plug in a AC power adapter to the motherboard and use a voltage meter to measure it. It has 19.8v,
so will be the motherboard problem? Thank you for help!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 no power on

What about the battery instead of Power Adaptor?

Also you may need to check for break in the power socket on the Motherboard (um usually underneath the Mobo )

I need Toshiba power saver for A215-S5824
I have downloaded this soft ware that especially for A210 series but don't install by fatal error 0X0 and 0X45A.

Please put link of this software.

Answer:Need Toshiba power saver for Satellite A215-S5824

Hi mate,

unfortunately I cannot place any link for you here. But what I can suggest you is to install all other Toshiba tools, especially the flash buttons driver, before installing the powersaver.

Where did you downloaded the powersaver? From the US or the European page?

I would suggest you to deinstall all drivers and tools, then install first all device drivers and Toshiba tools (except the powersaver) and in the end, you should install the powersaver. It should work then...

ok. so my toshiba a215-s5824 will not turn on, no battery charge light or anything. took out battery to no effect. Does this mean its the motherboard? and how difficult would it be to replace? tech shop tested dc power and power adapter and they are fine. please help!

Answer:Toshiba a215-s5824 laptop motherboard issue. no power light

Your "tech shop" would be better in diagnosing a possible bad motherboard and its replacement options. It takes considerable skill and knowledge to replace a laptop motherboard. If things aren't done properly, you could end up with a very expensive paperweight

My daughter laptops started shutting down automatically. Not a blue screen. It would power back up, but eventually it stopped powering up.
After doing some research I replaced the motherboard. It still will not power up. It will charge the battery and I have tried to power it up with just the battery and no luck. when you plug in the power cord the blue light on the front show it is plugged in and the battery is charging. The power light flashes for a second and then nothing.
Could it be the power switch board? would that have caused it shut down? I thought of the bios but it is a new board and if it will not power up I have no way to flash it.
Any help is appreciated.
thanks Bob

my toshiba satellite a215-4697 is too slow how can i fix it?

Answer:my toshiba satellite a215-4697 is too slow

Depends or reasons. For most people the software is borked. Reload it using the owners manual, usually termed a recovery or some such term. It returns it to as bought state. It could still be any number of hardware issues but I'd try the reload. Might boot to the vista dvd and use the memory diagnostics just to be sure. 1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

Answer:Toshiba laptop Satellite A215 won't start

I had a Satellite in for repair a few months back with the same symptoms and to be honest I did not have a clue what was causing it.
I decided to strip it down to basics and discovered it was the cd/dvd drive that was causing the problem, replaced it and all was good again.
I am not saying this is your problem but it is quite easy to test, the drive is held by two screws and then simply pulled out

I bought my Toshiba Satellite A210/A215 laptop about 8 months ago. It suddenly started having problems recently. First, it would suddenly crash without warning, no matter what i did. Then after a while even touching it the wrong way would make it crash. I let it sit for a bit and now when I try to turn it on, the lights will indicate its on and plugged in, but there's nothing appearing on the screen. ok...i hope i am even using the correct terminology here. i purchased this computer 36 days ago. 6 days passed the return policy, otherwise bestbuy would be eating this thing hard and fast through their teeth!

first. i noticed when i was looking at the screen that tells you what the MB and GB that there was a slight discrepency...and i know so little about computers there may be a perfectly reasonible explanation. anyway. the laptop says i have 182 GB, but i should have 200. is this a non-issue?

but the real problem is this. i will be emailing/searching/watching a video that i have downloaded/playing a get the point....and one of two things will happen.

#1--the screen just goes blank. the blue lights on the keyboard indicate the computer remains plugged into outlet, the on light is lit, but the ?processing? light is on...but nothing is happening. it is as if the computer is off. the fan will shut off, and no amount of button pushing changes things. the only way to get anything going again is to shut the computer off manually and then turn it back on. things act normal from there on for quite a while.

#2--this one is a little strange. all of the above takes place only i don't have a blank screen. i get a black screen with vertical grey stripes. it's very dizzying!

the whole thing is a bit on the perplexing side and like i said before....if only i had found the reciept prior to now and if only i had listened to my gut and taken it back ... Read more

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 Crashes

I am familiar with your computer. Based on what we see in our shop, I suspect the problem may be inadequate memory capacity.
I am sure you didn't mean to report the memory as 182 GB vs 200 GB as that would be an enormous amount.
I suggest you download and run the free Belarc Advisor or Everest Home. Either program will inventory your computer and tell you what working memory it finds.
Tell us what the inventory says.
If you have less than 512 MB, you simply do not have enough memory for that machine. If you have more than 1 GB, then memory is OK, and we must look elsewhere.
Even though your return privilege is up, you still have warranty rights.

But whatever the cause, I would use download AVG Free Antivirus and free antispyware. Then remove the free 90 day version of McAfee Security, using Add and Remove Software in the Control Panel. Once McAfee is removed, install the AVG software. It is free, and very good, and will not abuse resources the way your McAfee does.

I am having issues with charging my toshiba satellite A215. When I plug in my adapter it will say charging for a few minutes and then it will say plugged in and not charging...Has anyone experienced this and can tell me what the issue could be??? Thanks

Answer:Battery not charging on Toshiba Satellite A215

First you should check if the battery is correctly installed in the battery socket.
If it is, check if the cable is correctly plugged and that nothing is stuck in the cable port. Last, you could check if the cable is broken.

If none of these, i'm sorry, i can't help you.

I had a thread back in January about this. Laptop, got it around that time, Vista... nightmare. I've ran Vista successfully on several machines but this laptop just doesn't like it. It locks up, freezes, blah blah... but XP is a dream. And this thing is packin 2gb RAM + 1.8ghz dual core AMD, so it's not like it's "bad".

Anyway, the drivers. I tracked down a good chunk of them, but I still have 3 yellow splats *Base System Device* and SM Bus Controller.

SM Bus Controller = Chipset. Right?

I installed it. Successfully. Yet it's still asking me where the **** the driver is.

And please, don't direct me to Toshiba. I've spent hours on their site looking for drivers. I just can't find the ones I need.

Any input?

Hi there, I have a toshiba A75 laptop that does not boot when on ac power without a battery beyond bios. It shows the splash screen but then dies on normal boot.

When I have the battery in and the unit is powered off It does charge the battery.
When the battery is fully charged, it will run and boot into windows but does not recognize the ac power at all. It just drains the battery, then when the battery is at 0 it shuts off and this is while connected to AC power and the LED see's the AC power.

When on AC power I can boot into bios and it will sit there for days without a battery, but when I try to get to the OS it just shuts down. I have replaced the mobo twice. I have replaced the hard drive as well. The odd part is that with the hard drive out of the laptop, I can get the laptop to run with out any power failures. It just recycles the media device failure message but does not crash.

I have tested the power supply on other laptops and it seems to work just fine.

Any one have any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A75 boot/power issue with AC power

Since you have replaced the system board twice, this probably does not apply to you... but we have seen a number of Toshibas with the same or similar motherboard where the power jack on the board became loose or disconnected. A new jack had to be obtained and soldered back into position.
If you bought used boards or refurbished boards, this difficult jack problem could have been the cause. It requires a special cold solder technique and is awkward to access, but when done properly by an experienced tech, it can save a laptop.
There are several Dell Inspirons and Sony laptops with the similar problem.
We have seen costs in a shop as high as $160 for this repair... but the part is only $6.00 so I don't know how they justify the high cost.

I realize this is probably not a current / hot topic but I have spent hours on this and I am totally stumped. I have an older A215-S5818 Satellite Laptop that I upgraded to 4 gigs of ram, supposed to be able to support Win 7 with an upgrade from Vista or from a custom/raw Win 7 install.

Supposedly also supports 32 and 64bit. I have tried both 32 bit Ultimate and 64bit Ultimate - and although I was able to basically install and operate either on the laptop it seemed I was always running into Windows update issues.

So I thought I would attempt to follow Toshiba's instructions instead of just Installing from a retail CD.
I even upgraded the Bios to the latest 2.00 that is supposed to be the latest or last Bios supporting 32/64 bit Win 7.

After a basic install of either the 32 or 64 bit Win 7, I attempted to use both Toshibas utilities to Install Win 7 Software and Hardware support.
In every single case I get an error that states that my Toshiba Laptop "Was either not manufactured by Toshiba or the Rom does not support Windows 7" - Totally wierd!?

Anybody seen anything like this. And the Rom is specifically for Windows 7.

I even downgraded the Rom to version 1.90 that although not latest still supposedly supported Windows 7.
Still get the same error? Any ideas... how would a utility with hardware addressing calls not think it was a Toshiba computer and why would it think the Rom didn't support Windows 7 when they both were specifically for Window... Read more

Hey guys and gals,
So I've had my Toshiba Satellite for a couple years now, and I have loved it. After un-installing Vista and putting on XP sp3 on it, I really have had no problems. I have had some nasty viruses, but I've fixed it with either system restore, or Killbox ect. I currently have Desktop Maestro on my Satellite and I love it, has awesome tools like registry scan, system optimization, and keeps my boot times rather fast!
I still have the stock 2 gigs of DDR2 ram, and the 1.8GHz Turion64 X2, video card Radeon X1200 integrated, exc exc.

I dont use my computer for gaming or anything like that, just normal usage. my hard drive (250GB) was about 75% filled with my music, and photos( I am a photographer on the side ) and i will be d4mned if i loose all of it, i will be p1ssing blood

okay, well here is the problem, finally!

I was doing the usual, surfing the web and chatting with people online before going to bed, and I always put my laptop on "sleep" mode when i leave for a while, or go to sleep. I don't turn it off that much, except if i leave for the weekend.

I wake up this morning, flip the open the lid, and its totally greyish white. So I'm like "double you tee eff" and restart it. Once I restart it, 2 seconds later there are colorful vertical lines (and no, i am not on drugs ) then i start to freak out, then restart it again. same thing, different colored lines in different spots. I try it again, and NOTHING happens. alittle "boot"... Read more

Answer:BIG problem with my Toshiba Satellite A215 S4757. Help Needed

Hook it up to an external monitor (borrow one from a friend if you don't have one). That will determind if it is the video card or the monitor that is trashed.

Monitors aren't too hard to replace, they are harder to find, and relatively expensive. If you get lucky you'd be able to find another compatable toshiba that is dead that you could take hte monitor from.

Video cards on the other hand are difficult. Most video cards are integrated on latpops meaning if they go out, you have to purchase a whole new motherboard. This is usually very expesive (usually costs as much as the laptop is worth) and a pain to replace.

Either way you REALLY REALLY REALLY need to be backing up your data. Either on another external USB drive or DVD's. Purchase a large external drive and start backing up to that.

The sound is coming from the left side by the fan and the side vent. It started a few weeks ago and ever since it has been driving me insane. It comes and goes, but when it comes it stays for a while. It kind of sounds like a buzzing noise...but more like something is inside the computer. I can temporarily make the sound stop by pushing down on the plastic, but when I release it it comes right back. I tried tightening the screws on the bottom of the laptop..but it doesnt seem to help.

Also, my computer sucks at streaming videos. It always stops playing and starts right back up a second later, but it's just annoying. It downloads the videos fine, just playing is rough.

Anyone know what could be causing these problems?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A215 making annoying noise

Use a can of air to clean the fans - see if that fixes the noise.

Streaming videos requires a certain bandwidth to stream consistently. So when you download videos, movies, music what is the kb/s that it downloads? My guess is you don't have very fast internet connection speed so you can download stuff fine (slow but fine) and you can't watch streaming videos because it requires a minimum bandwidth to keep up with the video (pausing the movie will allow the download to get ahead of what is being played).

Google speakeasy speed test, run a few of those and let us know your bandwidth speeds.

I just upgraded to Windows 7 and when it first started up I noticed the colors are very dull, compared to my other two computers with 7. The display also seems a little big. I think my native resolution is 1280x1024. But when I go to change the resolution I am only presented with two options. 1024x768 and 800x600. I've looked everywhere on the internet and can't figure it out. Before I upgraded to 7 I was on Vista and I had ATi Catalyst Control Center. But after the switch I did not have that software and I tried to download and install it. Which I did, but there is no actual program to open up like I had before. I just have all of the files in the folders but nothing useful.

There you can see the folders I have in my ATi folder, probably doesn't help much. But there is no cli.exe, ccc.exe, and no MOM.exe. All of the ones I could think of from when I had Vista.

I don't necessarily need Catalyst CC...but I would love to change my resolution because it's kind of blurry and not sharp like I want it to be. Is it possible to just download a random driver or something to take the place of it?

Can somebody please help me. I upgraded my wireless card to an "Intel Wifi Link 5100" Wireless ABGN mini pci-e card. I was able to successfully get all of the drivers installed and hardware recognized. However, according to the Intel Proset Wireless Manager, it states that I need to turn on the physical hardware switch. The problem is...with the new card in place, switching the on/off button doesn't change the status or turn on the LED light.

I found in these forums that for the mini pci (not the mini pci-e) cards, you can actually cover up pins 11 and 13 to make it work. I can't seem to find any information on the pci-e card.

Additional information:Several people have suggested to install the model specific Wireless configuration utility that may be able to turn the hardware switch on. For the Toshiba, I installed Configfree, but it won't turn the switch or LED on.

All device drivers are installed and working properly. For this Toshiba model, there is no wireless enable/disable found in the BIOS either.

I'm hoping that there are certain pins that can be covered in the pci-e card to override the default hardware switch!!! Hopefully somebody out there will know.

I was wondering if and how I could ditch the vista OS, and downgrade back to XP on this laptop...

Dear All,

I have problem with my Satellite A215-S7422 (AMD)
I bought this unit included Windows Vista Home Premium+Recovery Disc inside the package.
I really enjoy the fitures of Vista, amazing !!!
But some programs I've had didn't support for Vista. That's a pity for me.
So, I tried to make new partition than installed Windows XP SP2.
The problem is my Vista wasn't appeared anymore.
So I tried to get back my Vista using my recovery disc. But unfortunately it didn't work at all.

Questions :
1. Can CD recovery didn't work if we split Harddrive (make some partitions) ?
2. My recovery disc file is .tib, so I try using Acronis Image, while I operating this program my notebook didn't detect DVD Drive. Than I try to copy the all file for both of Recovery Disc to empty partition, I can see the .tib file but it didn't work also. Can you explain what probably causes ?
3. If I format all drives than make it one drive, can Recovery Disc works?

Please do me a favour for this
Your assist will be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A215-S7422 some questions regarding Toshiba Recovery disk

I?m not quite sure how it works on US series but I think it?s not very different to EU series.

1) No, you cannot split the HDD using the Recovery disk. The recovery disk will format the whole HDD and will create the partitions like at the beginning.
2) I doubt you can burn it using other 3rd party programs. Toshiba has installed Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator which should be used to burn the Recovery disk
3) As I said in point 1 -> Recovery disk will format the whole HDD. It?s no matter how many partitions are created on HDD. Everything will be erased

Laptop running Vista abruptly developed a password requirement - it was just a light blue screen with a box to input a password.  Everything I entered was wrong, and attempting to start the Satellite by tapping F8 or with a Vista disc brought up that same screen.I bit of internet investigation showed that Toshiba laptops can be prone to this behavior, and that there's not much to be done other than resetting the BIOS.  I started stripping down the laptop and got frustrated when I finally saw that the CMOS battery was soldered to the motherboard without a pin connection that could be unplugged.  I soldiered on and saw many webpages that instructed people with a method to short out the BIOS using a jumper.I unplugged the laptop, removed the battery, HDD, and memory, and used a pair of needle nose pliers to touch this area under the RAM while simultaneously touching a metal bar.  I plugged in the laptop and turned it on while continuing to make contact, holding it for about 30 seconds.I unplugged, reconnected the RAM, the HDD, the battery and the power cord, turned it on and was prepared to be amazed.Instead I got nothing.  No video at all.  The machine DID turn on - I could see the proper lights turned on, and the fan was whirring, but no video or sound.I then connected the laptop to an external monitor.  Nothing.  I pressed the proper keys (fn + F5) to toggle between the laptop display and the monitor.  Nothing. Is there anythin... My internet connection is sporadic AT BEST. I have a LyncSys wireless modem for which the internet works perfectly for every other computer in the house. I always get 4 out of 5 bars of reception quality for the wireless connection. When I open a new IE connection, it takes forever for the webpage to open. When I'm connected to the internet, then switch to a new site the thing churns and churns. Sometimes it never stops churning, then other times I get a message that says something that indicates internet connection lost. When I am connected, it runs excruciatingly slooow. I had a prof. computer technician look at it. He didn't see anything obviously wrong. No spyware, no malware, no viruses. I then took my laptop to Office Depot and they ran a series of diagnostics as well and gave me the same exact report. However, there's obviously "something" wrong. Any help provided would be MUCH APPRECIATED !!!!

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver. If it is an integrated adapter get the driver from the PC manufacturer's web site. If you already have that driver reinstall it anyhow in case the installed instance is corrupted.

I need help regarding finding *Disc Images* of Toshiba *Recovery and Applications/Drivers* (2 DVDs) for the following Toshiba Satellite laptop model:
Model Name: *A215-S4697*
Toshiba Model-Part No: *PSAEGU-00V00U*

The problem is that 2 Recovery Discs I have are *empty/blank*. When I tried inserting it in my computer, *+Nero Burning ROM+* applications detects both discs as *Empty DVD-R media*. (In fact, I can even write on it since its just blank DVDs)

I can't create my own Recovery Disc since my system is broken (hence my *+need+* to use the *Toshiba Recovery Discs*)

I would certainly appreciate if anyone can share a download link or a torrent file for the *Toshiba Recovery Discs*

By the way, here's a [photo of my *+blank+ Recovery Discs*| iscs_122_881lo.jpg]

Answer:Re: Links for Toshiba Satellite A215-S4697 Recovery Disc Images

Hello alibaba

At first I must say that I know for sure that Toshiba does not offer link for recovery images download. If you want to have recovery CD/DVD for your notebook you must buy it.
The CDs shown on the picture are really strange. it does not look like original Toshiba recovery CD/DVD but like some self made recovery media. See just the print. I am really confused about it.

Original Toshiba recovery media looks like this one . Can you see the difference? Of course on this picture you can see recovery media for European market but I cannot imagine there is big difference for other not European countries.

Can you please tell me who gives you those CDs?

Hi. I just bought a new toshiba satellite A210/A215 laptop two weeks ago. After about a week of use, something unusual started happening. After I had been using the laptop for awhile (sometimes a couple of minutes, sometimes several hours), the screen suddenly turns black with no warning. It is still on, because I can hear it running. I just can't see anything on the screen and any music or video playing stops. If anyone could help with this that would be great. Thanks!

I have a power up issue with my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033. About a month ago my laptop suddenly shutoff and is showing no power incoming/charging. When I try removing the charger and plug and holdong down the power button it ends up not doing anything andiI've tried for about 5 mins. It does however light up for a split second when I remove the battery and plug the adapter in; it makes the power led flicker red and out again. I'm thinking it was just fried/motherboard dead but since its lighting up I'm hoping that's not the case.

My Toshiba laptop was working fine with the AC adapter plugged in (the battery was on it's last breath and would not charge at all, so I always had to keep it plugged it). I had to move so I unplugged the laptop (did not shut down). After the move I tried turning it on and it would not.

The AC Led light is on, so it's not the adapter.
The Battery light is amber and flickering (it wasn't flickering before)
When I press the power button to power up the laptop - the Power and the CD/DVD Led lights go on, but not the HD light. And the screen stays blank.
I hear no sounds, seems the HD is completely dormant.

There are a few files on the HD that I absolutely have to have. I'm not too concerned with getting the laptop to be operational, I just need to get those files and the laptop can be recycled.

Any ideas? How to get it to power up at least once, so I could copy the files?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite power issue with AC adapter pluged in

Try taking the battery out of the laptop and powering the laptop on (with the AC adapter plugged in obviously). Another option for recovering the files would be to get an adapter to connect the laptop drive to a usb port on another pc.

Ok I have done a ton of research online about what could be wrong with my laptop. But I cant find anything about my situation. When I plug the charger in I get a blue charge light on and it stays on. I dont have a battery so I cant tell you if it will charge. But to my knowledge I dont even need a battery to turn on the laptop. I can use AC. When I hit the power button the power light next to the charge light turns on for 5-10 seconds and then shuts off. I can do this over and over till I am blue in the face. By the way when i hit the power button nothing happens inside the laptop at all. No sound or movement. Now i have tried to hold the power button with out it being plugged in for 30 secs to 3 mins and still the same routine. I reseated the memory and also taken out the hard drive and DVD drive. Still nothing. Can someone help me to troubleshoot this machine.

PS does the fingerprint reader have anything to do with it not turning on?

i have a Satellite A215 with what looks like a major problem.

When i plug the ac adapter in i get 2 combination's of LED's on the front panel coming on -
Sometimes the mains light flickers blue twice then nothing
Sometimes the mains and battery light flash once then power on light flashes once and then nothing
sometimes no LED's light up at all.

If the ac adapter is left plugged in for about 5 minutes the main blue power LED will eventually come on and stay lit.
The laptop doesn't post, the power on button has no effect.

I've tried removing the battery, ram, hdd, modem and wireless card so far.

Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Satellite A215 - Power fault

You mean you cannot power up the notebook?
Neither with battery power nor using the AC adaptor?

Well, this sounds weird and possibly there is something wrong with the power supply electronic on the mobo? but this is only my personal opinion?.

You should try one workaround; remove battery, disconnect ac adaptor.
Then wait about 30-60min and connect both part again.
Try to power up the notebook and test if the notebook would pass the POST properly.

If nothing will happen then an serious hardware malfunction could be possible and I think in such case only the ASP can be helpful.

I am trying to fix my mom's computer. Apparently, she deleted some file a "Realtek\VISTA_8169" file

I tried to restore the computer to the time before this happened but the laptop said system failure error and said it could not complete the restoration.
Since the ethernet controller is a component I believe having to do with connection to the internet since the laptop is usually connected to a router wirelessly, the laptop just can't detect the wireless signal. Nothing is wrong with the internet connection since I am on my own laptop right now.

Hello everybody,

I would like to ask a few questions abou my system: first of all, the cooling fan is running in my opinion too often: almost continuously, with brakes of 2-3 seconds. Is this normal?

I have my laptop since august last year and I think it shouldn't be a problem of dust, because it is too "young" for that and I don't live in a "dusty" appartment...

Anyway, I think the "almost allways running fan" problem appeared about 2 months after I purchased the notebook. I have installed "Speedfan" and I see "HD0" temperature is increasing from about 30deg immediately after I start the laptop, to about 39deg after 1 hour.

But the curious thing is that so named "Core" temperature is oscillating from the beginning between 45deg and over 52deg! The fan starts each time the core temperature is rising over 50deg and stops when the temperature reaches 45deg. Is this behaviour normal???

Is the core temperature of 45-50deg normal? I am just using my laptop for Internet browsing, e-mails, etc., no complex 3d games!

The second thing is that the battery life is (and was from the beginning) not spectacular: it lasts max. 1,5 hours with wireless on, but normal use of laptop (not playing dvd's or something like this). Is this normal? If yes, is it because of the amd turion 64x2 processors?

Please help me with some advices / opinions.

P.S. I've bought my Toshiba as I was on trip in USA (NY).

Answer:Satellite A215-S4757 - Battery life and cooling fan issue

> I would like to ask a few questions about my system: first of all, the cooling fan is running in my opinion too often: almost continuously, with brakes of 2-3 seconds. Is this normal?

I?m an owner of a Satellite A210. It?s similar to the A215. The A210 is a European model and the A215 belongs to the US notebook series.
I have noticed the same on my A210 and I think it?s normal behavior.

> But the curious thing is that so named "Core" temperature is oscillating from the beginning between 45deg and over 52deg! The fan starts each time the core temperature is rising over 50deg and stops when the temperature reaches 45deg. Is this behavior normal???
The CPU temperature of 40-60deg is nothing unusual.
The temperature could arise up to 70-80degrees while playing a game. So don?t worry about the temperature.
The cooling modules are controlled by BIOS. The fan table is stored in the BIOS and it contains informations about temperature limits and the cooling usage.
If a certain temperature level was reached the cooling module starts to rotate with a certain speed.

Now I would like to say something about the notebooks battery life time
Generally the battery life time depends on the notebooks usage.
While playing games or watching movies the battery would discharge much faster.

Anyway, your notebook was equipped with high-performance devices and as far as I know the Vista was preinstalled on this series. Both factors (high performance devices C... Read more

What type of ac adapter do you have, voltages and have you tried another type of ac adapter ?

I don't know for sure, but... it sounds like something is wrong with the ac jack.
Those can be replaced easily if you know how to solder, the part will cost less 7 dollars USA wise but shipping to you might be another issue due to your location.

Toshiba Satellite L305-5955, Ive taken apart and replaced power jack. Not directly soldered to motherboard. While still apart, and battery out/in, connected power supply and still absolutely no response. Power supply is NOT original, and slightly different specs, i.e original 19v..6.3A

current 19v..3.1A

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L305-5955 does not respond to power supply, new power jack

Almost certainly the problem is that the current rating is wrong, if the laptop needs
6.3 A of current, it won't function on less (just as you can't use a 3A fuse for a kettle!)
Unfortunately it must be the right current rating, I know, I've been caught that way too!
Maybe you can exchange it?

Well, I did it. I did the downgrade. Vista was running great until some random lock ups. I'll give it another go-around when it becomes more well rounded, but until then, XP Pro SP2 has taken over my laptop.

Thing is, now I have to find all of my drivers individually. I located the ATI Radeon X1200 adapter, however I get errors during installation. It first required .Net Framework 2.0, which I got, however the ATI installation continuously gets flagged with errors.

It reads...

Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit. Thing is, the driver is for XP... yet I have XP... and it's for the X1200... I have the X1200... Wtf?

edit - also if anybody knows where I can get the drivers in a bunch... like a mass download, that'd be great..

Answer:toshiba a215-s7472 xp drivers

Drivers aren't that hard to find. You need to find another PC with the same motherboard and hardware as yours, running XP as the original OS.
(I am a little busy today or I would look around for you. I'll get with you soon , if someone else doesn't)
Even with the proper driver drivers you may have install problems with audio. I tell everyone not to backgrade to XP, but that is your choice to make. If you do make sure you have a Recovery disc, so that you will be able to restore back to Vista, if you need to.

I'm wondering why your Vista is crashing. It has been very stable on my system (more than XP was) and is considered stable by most of those I know using it.
It's possible you could just have an Hardware issue, that may carry over to XP.
Have you looked in your event logs to see what is causing the crashes?

What ever hardware change you made on Feb 1, 2011 is the cause. All the crashes since then are identical. They are 124

Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.

You can read more on this error and what to try here... Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try

I know that Toshiba does not support changing their laptops from Windows Vista to Windows Xp, however I had so many issues with the laptop (I received it from a friend) that was related to viruses and other issues, and didn't have the original util disc's that came with the computer so I reformated the system and installed a copy of Windows XP instead.I have currently upgraded all the device drivers on the computer and everything is currently working great. My problem with the system is that when I boot the computer, it rocks right on past the (f2 for setup, f12 for boot up) bios startup page, however thats when it turns into a turtle and takes 15 to 30 mins to load. Then it flashes into the animated Windows XP load screen and then hurrys right on along. What can be causing the computer to slow down during the boot process? The screen looks black, with the bottom of the screen having incremental vertical dashes as a progress bar... it seriously takes the computer anywhere from 15 to 30 mins to complete the process that it is doing, I have no clue what process it is, but then it speeds right back up and works perfectly. Is there anyway I can speed up this load time? It used to take 1-2 mins to load with windows Vista, now 15-30 with xp? Doesn't make sense!Toshiba Satallite A215-S5818 ~ Windows XP SP3 ~ No Anti-Virus Software or Firewall programs installed yet. You didn't mention loading the main chipset drivers. You MUST load them.XP doesn't have the drivers built in for most things that first came out after XP was first released, circa 2001, and it doesn't have some of the drivers built in for things made before that. Whenever you load Windows from a regular Windows CD (or DVD) from scratch, after Setup is finished you must load the drivers for the mboard, particularly the main chipset drivers, in order for Windows to have the proper drivers for and information about your mboard hardware, including it's AGP or PCI-E, ACPI, USB 2.0 if it has it, and hard drive controller support. If you have a generic system and have the CD that came with the mboard, all the necessary drivers are on it. If you load drivers from the web, brand name system builders and mboard makers often DO NOT have the main chipset drivers listed in the downloads for your model - in that case you must go to the maker of the main chipset's web site, get the drivers, and load them.

I have recently bought the Toshiba A215-S5818 and it came with vista home and although I would get decent video play on VISTA i was no impressed with overall performance and overall speed.

I downgraded to XP Pro and overall computer speed is up almost twice the speed as before however my video now is lagging horribly. My video drivers are installed fine, can my graphics card actually be designed to run better on vista?

Reason I am asking is because my old laptop which was a fujitsu notebook 4 yrs old by now p4 2.4 1 gig of ram and its overall performance video and computer speed was almost 10 times better then what I am receiving even when I had vista.

Is this normal or could there be something wrong with the laptop I bought.

Answer:Toshiba A215-S5818 Performance Issues

What are the specs of the Toshiba? CPU, Memory and hard drive capacity.

I think I found your specs:

"AMD Turion 64 X2 Processor
ATI Radeon X1200 Graphics
2 Gigs of memory
160 gig HDD
Atheros Wireless"... These are plenty good to support Vista. I've installed Vista Home Premium on lesser laptops and they have all worked fast and stable

I just change the OS of my Toshiba a215-s7444 to WXP SP3, whoever the audio is not working. I try to install the realtek HD audio driver and nothing happen. The device that still doesnt have driver in the device manager says:

Any help I'll really appreciate.

Answer:Pls HELP with Toshiba a215-s7444 audio driver

This patch is required before any of the HD device drivers are installed
1. On your PC change the CSDVersion registry key to XP SP2:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDVersion value=200
2. Restart your PC
3. Install KB888111xpsp2.exe HD_Audio/kb888111xpsp2.exe
4. Change the CSDVersion key back to XP SP3 again:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDVersion value=300
5. Restart your PC, finalize configuration of your PC, sysprep and capture.

Step by step directions
Goto Start>Run and type in regedit , then click OK.
Click the plus signs in front of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, Current Control Set, Control, and finally, click Windows.
In the right panel you will see CSDVersion.
Right click it, choose Modify.
In the highlighted input window, you should see 300. Change it to 200.
Click OK, close regedit and restart your PC. Windows will now think it is SP2 and allow you to install the UAA and your HD audio driver.
Make sure to reboot and then test your sound BEFORE, changing the value back to 300.

Then follow the same steps to change it back to SP3. Change the 200 back to 300.

I have a toshiba A215 running vista.  It won't get past the microsoft screen that has the green flashing dots at the bottom.
I have gone in to F8- it won't start in safe mode.  When I try to repair it says loading files then goes black.  I have tried to use the recovery disk and it does the same thing (loading files then the black screen).
I have started up pressing 0 and I get a HDD recovery mode and that is it.
I don't know if this is a virus that is stopping the progression or a hard drive or motherboard issue.
Would love any advise anyone can offer.

While I'm using my laptop, it periodically hangs when in use. I may be watching a youtube vid when my laptop will hang and I won't be able to do anything for a second or two. I've updated my graphics drivers and still have the same issue. What can I do?

Also, when I play an MP3 (with the correct audio codecs) using VLC player, the song will skip every five or ten seconds. I thought it was a bad MP3, so I tried it with several hundred other MP3's and I still have the same issue. What can I do?

I'd like to solve this issue without having to re-install the OS. I know that step is available, but I don't want to use it unless I really have to.

I've also run: CCleaner v3.08.1475, Defraggler (in safe mode), aVast Anti-Virus 6.0.1203, TuneUp Utilities 2010 v9.0.4100 (in Turbo Mode), Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Read more

Hello guys. This is my first post here. First at all, thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I'm from Costa Rica so excuse me if my english sometimes gets messed up.

I know this is an old thread. I double checked any possible option before i decide to post my situation. But none of them seems to work for me.

My problem is this:
I got a laptop Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334
Model number: PSAA8U-14M02K
Systemboard Toshiba number is: V00068590
Systemboard number is: 1310A2041316
What happened to my system is the like you guess it wont power up. Last time my brother used, it was working fine, he let the battery run out of power so we could start charging it back from 0. But when we plugged nothing happened, no lights, no charge no anything.

i tried everything, from removing the battery to replace hard drives an other components.. (with the help of a expert). Eventually i took it to the toshiba support center and the guy only tells me that is the systemboard what is wrong with the computer.

Now, i will like to know what exactly went wrong but they wont tell me. they just tell me that i have to replace the component.

Now here comes the thing.... is the second time in less than a year that i will have to replace the motherboard. First time it was under warranty so they change some defective systemboard along with some memory. 6 months later it happens again.

The first time it wasn't so drastic. it gave me some signs of failure so i took it right awa... Read more

I'm attempting to fix a laptop:

Toshiba Satellite L455-S5975

It was thrown and was able to power on. I took it apart to see if it was fixable. While trying to turn it back on I couldn't get it to start back up. Any ideas where I could have gone wrong? From What I see JUST to get the power I need the wall outlet, adapter, DC POWER JACK CABLE HARNESS, and Power Button Board with Cable working correctly.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite= No Power

It was thrown? From where? A bus?

You couldn't get it start back up? That means it worked perfectly fine until.........? What?

If it you found it in the trash and it never worked, then it's broken. How much money do you want to spend trying to fix it?

My laptop crashed (Toshiba L305-s5921 series).
I dont have the recover discs, but I do have the recovery disc for my Toshiba A215 series.

Can i recover my laptop with this disc.

Answer:Can I use the Satellite A215 recovery disk for Satellite L305-s5921

You can not use the Recovery disk designed for A215 because the A215 is simply different notebook model which need different drivers as the L305!

The image on the recovery disk contains the OS, drivers and tools and if you would use different recovery disk then wrong drivers would be installed on the L305 and this can lead to other troubles!!!

Hi there,

I just recently installed windows 7 onto my laptop and am having a hard time trying to figure out which driver I'm missing. They're two base drivers and their hardware id's are:

The first one being:

Physical Device Object Name: \Device\NTPNP_PCI0025
location:PCI bus 20, device 6, function 2

The second one:

Physical Device Object Name: \Device\NTPNP_PCI0026
location:PCI bus 20, device 6, function 3

If anyone can be of help that would be much appreciated
If I'm missing any information please let me know.

Answer:Toshiba A215-S7413 base system drivers missing

I have found that most of the time these base system devices to be missing card reader drivers. I would first try installing the Ricoh and or the SD drivers from here Model Content Page I selected Vista>then Flash reader to find them. I don't know if you are using the 32 or 64 bit version of Seven, but Toshiba only lists the Vista drivers. These are for 32 bit. Try installing them in compatibility mode. Hi all and thanks in advance.

I'm trying to repair a Toshiba Satellite 2455-S305 that will not power on after being dropped on it's corner. It hit on the corner where the speaker and power jack are.
When I plug it in, the power light and battery charging light come on. If I press the power button, the power light comes on, but I don't hear anything, see anything, or feel any vibration to show that it's actually trying to boot or anything.

I opened it up, took it apart and reseated every connector, RAM, and drive and am still seeing the same problem.

The power jack is removable, and attached via cable to the motherboard. It looked like it was in pretty good shape and the cable and connector did not seem to be stressed.

I also tried plugging it in to an external monitor with no results.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite won't power on after being dropped

Maybe you damaged the motherboard or CPU?

...and this would probably mean the laptop would make a 'beep' sound, but maybe u damaged the sound too?

Big theory, but, may be true.

When I click the power button when my computer is off, the light turns on, a few LED's on the front turn on, the CD drive makes the noise like it's starting up, but then it just freezes and the screen doesn't light up. I have to hold the power button in for 3 seconds to restart the laptop and try it again. If i do this like 10 times it will sometimes power on and function properly until I close my laptop again. It seems like it has to be warmed up or something?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A665 won't power on.

When you are trying to turn it on are there any bleeps or do any lights flash in any kind of sequence ?

A couple of things you could try and that is a cold boot and/or resetting the BIOS.

A cold boot is when you remove the battery and the AC power cord then hold the power button in for 40 secs - 1min.

This is how to reset the BIOS for your A665 How to Reset BIOS Password on a Toshiba Satellite - YouTube

Have you tried booting up with just AC and the battery removed ?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite P10-833. Sudden power down

Hi Dimitri,

Sudden power downs without the normal shutdown process occurring can be caused by over-heating. Check that your notebook is not blocked with dust and debris in the area of the air intake fans and CPU heatsink.

I have a satellite A60 and have a problem with the power saver. It appears that my virus/adware application has removed parts of the Power Saver App. No problem I thought, i'll reinstall it from the Tools and Utilities CD - wrong!
The Power Saver App on the CD has a 16 bit installer that won't run under Win XP, have tried Toshiba website (UK,Europe and USA), no luck - same 16 bit installer.

Hi everybody!

I'm having a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1DJ. It has an 750 GB HDD, but that wasn't enough for me. So I bought a Toshiba 1TB HDD. I undid all the screws, carefully (using my driver license), lifted up the plastic and removed a HDD.

BTW, I really like that platic solution on the HDD!!

Then I realised, that all my stuff is still on it.
So I put the HDD back, planning that I'll copy everything on my ext. hard drive.
Well I screwed it back, got the battery back in, put the AC adaptor back.

The LED was on, indicating that power is flowing, battery is loading. I pressed the "Power-On" button, and nothing happened. Pressed it again still nothing. I plugged the battery and the AC adaptor out, I held the Power button for 30 sec, put everything back still nothing. I got scared. Opened the back once again, just to take a look at, if anything slipped out. Nope.

Everything is A-OKAY. What to do? Did I void the warranty? I hope not.
Can I repair myself without voiding my warranty? I hope so!

And also: I bought the laptop in Hungary, but I'm in Germany. Can I get it repaired here, in case my warranty is valid?

Thank you for your help!

Bertold Juhasz

PS: As you can tell english isn't my native language, please don't flip out on my grammar I know it's bad

Recently I dismantled my laptop to fix the power socket on the back. Having done a good job on that I assembled it only to find that it would not boot up and the only thing that does happens is the orange power L.E.D. at the front flashes.I have read some information from Toshiba Technical Service & Support which states, and I quote :"Toshiba Europe has identified that some notebooks manuafactured in January and February 2000 may have a fault that could prevent the notebook from starting up. This fault has been reported on some Celeron(tm) processor based Satellite 4090 systems operating at 400 MHz as well as Pentium(r) II processor based Satellite 4100 and Tecra 8000, operating at 400 MHz only.Affected notebooks can no longer be started and the DC-IN LED at the front of the notebook blinks. Intel and Toshiba have developed the solution to this issue that has been implemented in manufacturing (Intel revised up the module to REV 505) and any affected notebooks can be repaired relatively easily."End of quote. If anyone can tell me what this repair solution is I would be very happy !!!Thanks

Answer:Power-up on Toshiba Satellite 4100XCDT

You eliminated the most important part of the quote:"Notebooks with the potential to show the no boot issue would be in a serial number range starting with ?10? or ?20?. The serial number can be found on the silver product ID label on the base of the unit. Please contact your local Toshiba Service Partner for more Information"

Not sure if anyone can offer any advice on this one. Basically I bought a laptop from someone who I work with for my son as an xmas present. Paid £400 for it which I was told was reasonably fair at the time, it was 14mths old.As of yesterday it has apparently died. When it is connected to the power supply there are no lights, nothing. The power lead is warm so I am assuming that part is ok. When I wiggle the power lead around there is no intermittent power coming through, so I think the power jack is ok so that leaves me with the motherboard. I have read on some sites that it can be pretty expensive to repair, some companies offer to change the whole mother board whilst others will repair the faulty chips. Not sure whether to send it off to someone or take it down to a local computer repair shop (I dont want to be ripped off more than I already have)!Has anyone else had a similar problem, or can someone recommend a good repair company to use.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A-100 laptop no power

1. Disconnect battery and try on mains only.2. with battery and mains disconnected hold power button for 30 seconds, reconnect battery then mains and reboot. (rids board of static which may be causing the problem)
