I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Pavilion doesn't stop buzzing while I'm using it and it's getting annoying. I had to return my last one because the fan was broken and it was buzzing, squealing and overheating and then I got a new one (after being messed around at PC World). I assumed it was just the one I had but I've just recieved my new one and, whilst is isn't as hot and doesn't squeal, there's a general buzzing and hissing/whirring the whole time I'm using it. I've tried playing audio and there is no change so I'm assuming it's not the speakers (I've seen that that's a problem many people have) so I guess it's the fan again. How can I resolve this because it is really getting on my nerves and I'm on the verge of returning it again and steering clear of hp products?

I've seen this crackling sound problem around the internet. After my research for hours, here is what I got: 1. I used 'DPC Latency Checker V1.4.0'. It was found that some devices, i.e. modem, usb, wifi, are interupting the sound card making crackling noise which is really loud and noisy. 2. Changing the bit rate between 16 bit and 24 bit doesn't help. 3. Update speaker driver to 'Realtex 6.3.9600.116' and 'Intel Smart Sound Technology 8.4.1.71' won't help. 4. Turn off the Audio Enhancement in DTS studio sound doesn't help. 5. Disable WIFI driver for a while won't help. *6. I've found that the problem can be solved by disable 'Disk Data Cache' in SSD option in Intel Rapid Storage Technology.Page 4 from this link: LinkBut I can't find this disable option in version 13.6.0.1002So how can I turn this 'SSD Cache' off?Or do you have any other solution?

Hi HP! My girlfriend recently bought an HP Pavilion Model QCWB335 and she is experiencing issues with crackling sounds coming from the speakers. We have already tried rebooting the computer, lowering the volume down to 50 % and using headphones (same problem occurs). What should be done in order to solve this issue? Best Regards, Jakob and Katarina

Answer:Crackling sound from speakers on HP Pavilion

Hi @emmikatarina , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!   I understand that you are getting a crackling sounds coming from the speakers of your HP Pavilion Notebook PC. I will try my best to help you with this issue. Here are some instructions from SuperMario1 on how to resolve this. 1. Go into Control Panel, then Sound.2. Under the Playback tab, double click on Speakers to open Properties. 3. Go to Advanced tab. In the drop down, select the highest quality stereo output. 4. Click Apply and close all windows. If that didn't help, then here's round 2: 1. Instead of the Playback tab, go to the Recording tab. 2. Double click on Stereo Mix. 3. Go to Advanced tab, and select highest quality from the drop down. 4. Click Apply and close all windows. These steps should be enough to resolve the issue. If not, I would recommend a System Restore next, if the issue began recently. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore If the issue is not yet resolved, then please answer the following: 1. Does this issue only occur on online videos (to be certain, test something using Windows Media Player)? If so, is it only YouTube (to be certain, play a video from another site)? 2. Do any other devices in your house behave this way when you are streaming music?... Read more

After doing some troubleshooting myself I pin pointed the issue to the Bang & Olufsen Audio Codec. The issue became aparent when I updated the Realtek Driver to the lastest version last night.. There werent any noises before after upgrading to Windows 10 (The notebook came with W8.1) but after installing the Realtek drivers the noise began. If I unplug the notebook a horrible crackling noise will happen and its in sync with the brightness level of the screen being lower when entering battery mode. If I plug AC the noise will POP and level out. Before installing the Realtek Drivers the only issue I had was ground static in headphone mode, I could hear the HDD spinning on the headphones if there werent any music or sound playing but the noise was muffled If I played anything like music or youtube video. Then with the new realtek drivers the noise was horrible... I've had my laptop for a while and I've tried everything to get rid of this noise and nothing has worked. It is a crackling and popping sound that comings from the laptop itself not the speakers, the source of the sound seems to com from where you would plug in the power cord on the right side of the laptop

I've been through 2 HP laptops already. Both were returned because they had the same problem: A semi-loud tapping noise, in sync with the hard drive light on the side of the laptop. After returning the second laptop I went back to best buy and they said that there was nothing wrong with the first laptop I'd returned. Afterwards I went to Costco and bought a 3rd HP laptop which was a different model, but the problem is still there. So the question is: Should I return this laptop and boycott HP, or is this just a normal sound that HP laptops make?Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHDG1cMo0MA

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

Hi! So I bought this laptop, an HP Pavilion 15-au028ca for school and after around 3 weeks or so of using it my hard drive has started to make some kind of crackling noise and since I use it for school, it's a huge problem has it distract me but also people around me. So I went to best buy where I bought it and an IT confirmed that it was infact the Hard Drive making noise but because the 14 days refund had passed they would not refund it or replace it. The offered me to buy an other laptop while they send it to HP for repair since it's still convered and then refund the laptop one mine came back from HP but the problem is that I don't have the money right now to just go and buy an other 1000$ Laptop. Also, it's my everyday laptop for school, I'm studiying in computer science so I use it every day and I really can't afford to go a week (or more) without it. Now, some people proposed that I could swap the HDD for a SSD but I just wanted to know first if there was maybe an easy fix that would require me to go out an buy a 400$ SSD or could I work out with HP diretcly in order to fix my issue? I honestly don't know what to do, any help/anwser is highly appreciated. Thanks Antoine.

Dear readers,

I'm the owner of a toshiba l665D and there is a problem.
Every time i have to use something involving
sound it sounds rubbish.
The sound isn't played smoothly there are pauses and there is a big cracking
sound sometimes in it.

This is not because of the speakers, I have also tright it through the headphone tube.
Could this possilybe because of a damaged soundcard.

It's sound really rubbish and the laptop isn't even 2 years old yet.

What could it be?

Answer:Satellite L665D - sound isn't played smoothly - crackling sound

Hi

I think this is not related to faulty sound card but due to old iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) driver.

I found an thread about very similar issue.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=60231

Update of the iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) to version V10.1.0.1008 or higher should solve this problem.

I recommend trying this out!

Hi folks,

Recently I was setting up a VPN client (PacketIX), and the setup wizard suggested some Audio/Video Streaming "Optimization" tweaks. I didn't pay attention and confirmed.

Since then, I often hear some crackling / popping noises. For instance, this systematically occurs when I Alt/Tab between a running game and my desktop.

An obvious guess is that the damn VPN client messed up some sound settings, but I can't figure out what to do.

I've found a good deal of DPC latency workarounds around here which I tried in vain.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Answer:[Sound crackling ] VPN client messed up my sound settings

Try a system restore to before you installed the VPN client. (System Restore)

Then reinstall the VPN client and don't let it fiddle with the audio settings.

I've been having issues since February's windows updates with crackling sound typically in DirectX games and some video playback such as Steam. In an effort to isolate the problem out I've gone over all my drivers and dust contamination yet again this month. I removed both the 3.51 and 4.01 Klite packs and the VLC player I had been using. Registry cleaned and defragged.

My sound card is an Audigy Fatality champion series with the front panel breakout box.

June 3 2009 driver for it #6.0.1.1373

Dxdiag attached as well.

Next on my list is to see if maybe there's new drivers for my tv tuner capture board which does have sound card resources apparently.

As a side note, I use Ventrilo daily. When ever I launch it after a fresh reboot and connect to a server it locks the PC up for like 90 seconds before behaving normally and displaying the MOTD. It's done this for maybe 6 months. Whenever I have bad game problems I can generally disconnect and reconnect from the vent server without that little annoyance. I want to lay the blame at DirectX, but I've tried several forced updates of it without any improvement.

Playing in the APB beta as well, and thru tips from those players disabled multimedia network throttling in the registry which improved in game performance there a ton.
I really do not want to reload this machine as it takes an eternity to get everything back the way I like it.

Hello, about 3 days ago i bought a sealed brand new HP OMEN 17-W03np which comes with Windows 10 Home (64-bit), i noticed there were some problems with the sound which have been a constant problem since day one. Before and after any sound plays there are these pops/crackling sounds that are noticable (and pretty irritating), the sound appears to play fine after it starts but in a few occasions the sound actually started breaking and there were random pauses while playing sound. There was also this one time the volume randomly went up and down on its own when pausing a sound (in this case it was a video) and then playing it again.Random pops/crackling have also happened while i was on my browser on web pages but there was no sound sources in the web page at all. I've attempted to use earphones while testing sound, and while using them the pops/crackling sound sometimes come out through the earphones, but sometimes they also come out through the notebooks built-in speakers despite the fact the sound is then played through the earphones (which i found pretty strange). This is my first experience with HP and i have to say i am feeling quite dissapointed, could this be a software problem or will i have to send my notebook back? I'd also like to point out that no major program/software installations have been done as this is a brand new notebook so most of the programs/software in it right now are the ones that come pre-installed with the notebook. I will a... Hi.My laptop model is hp 15g009ax.When i stop hearing song or any audio in earphones, after approximately 6 seconds I hear a quick crackling sound. The crackling sound comes after any sound that ends or After the specific application that is playing the audio is closed). I will tell you what is did to stop this.1) I updated the sound driver from hp support website specific to my model. Didn't work2) Tried the earphones in other phones and lapotps. Working fine.3) Thought the problem is with windows. So dual-booted windows with Ubuntu 14.04.1. When I tried Ubuntu without installing it, earphones seemed to work fine without crackling after sound ends. But after installing Ubuntu and checked, the same problem repeated, but this time crackling sound started coming before the sound starts and after the sound ends. This is very irritating and after reading some articles about this problem, Some said the problem is due to interference(Not sure) of motherboard with soundcard. Can you please specify the source of this problem and a solution to it.Thanks In Advance

Hi, guys!
I bought HP Paviion 130 x360 from Future Shop a month ago. At that time, I didn't get any pen or pen drive software. So I'm just wondering if it's their mistake or I should buy one.
If possible, I'd like to use one of these pens: Lapazz tablet ??8060 pen, stylus pen, and a pen for HP tc4400 tablet pc.
Also, I want to use pen pressure for photoshop.

If I have to buy the pen:
1. What pen will fit for my laptop?
2. What pen drive do I need to install?
3. Do I have to buy both of them?  can I download a free software from HP website ?

I really need the pen pressure system.

If I don't need to buy:
1. Can I get a digital pen from Futureshop/Best Buy? (I don't know much about Tablet PC and It was first time to buy a laptop by myself)
2. Unless, Does one of pens on top work on my laptop and to use pen pressure?  I tried to touch the screen with them. Only stylus worked.
3. Can I use Lapazz tablet pen as a digital pen/ a stylus?

Answer:Pen for HP Pavilion 130 x360

Unless I'm missing something, this is a touch screen which you use your finger to navigate rather than a mouse.  If you are more comfortable using a mouse you can use a usb type with the laptop.  I personally don't know anyone who uses a stylus on a laptop touch screen.

Just out of curiosity, where did you read that you needed to use a "pressure pen"?

Question: Pavilion x360

I recently received the HP Pavilion x360 laptop as a gift. By the second use it was evident that something was wrong with the touchscreen. It will occasionally go berserk and self-activate, in which a poltergeist is seemingly tapping my screen incessantly and opening programs, windows, and files. The touch screen animation of little taps across the screen clicks up and down the left side of my entire screen, causing the most disturbance when it clicks within the Windows 10 start menu, where it clicks open programs, etc. While this is happening, I cannot even control the mousepad, as the cursor is incessantly being dragged back to where the touchscreen is being activated. In the end I always have to force shut-down, and generally I can reuse it for a while (maybe like four hours or so?) before I have to go through the whole cycle again. I have not noticed a pattern yet regarding when it occurs. Sometimes it's write when I start the laptop; sometimes it's after I've been using it for an hour or so. Tactics I have tried:Uninstalling and reinstalling touchscreen driverChecking for updatesRe-Calibrating the touchscreen Eventually just going into Device Manager and disabling the touchscreen altogether. Here's a video of my HP Touchscreen ghost in action:https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1R-obFJQJotNG52YzZkcFpKRjQ/view?usp=sharing

Hi, The guide says: Support DDR4?2133 Dual ChannelSupports up to 16?GB maximum on?board system memoryDDR4?2133 Dual Channel Support? 16384 MB (8192 MB × 2 pieces)? 12288 MB (8192 MB + 4096 MB)? 8192 MB (4096 MB × 2 pieces)? 8192 MB (8192 MB × 1)? 6144 MB (2048 MB + 4096 MB)? 4096 MB (4096 MB × 1) The interesting point is ON-BOARD that normally means "soldered to the motherboard". Regards.

After several months of inactivity, the HP Pavilion x360 notebook won't boot up. When turning on, all I get is a blue screen. If I hit a funtion key, I'll get a brief description of the key in the lower left hand side of the screen which remains there but nothing else happens. Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem. The laptop is virtually brand new.

HP Pavilion x360 - 13-u135tu This model says 256 GB M2 SSD.M2 is only small factor. But didnt mention type anywhere. I want to know wether it is sata based ssd (usually used in hybrid 1tb hard disk and 128gb ssd) or nvme based faster type ssd. They are many hybrid models out there with graphic card for this price range. This 256 GB M2 SSD if its sata low speed SSD then Can I just replace it with traditional Sata hard drives. So this type SSD is pretty much useless when compared to other pce nvme based SSD. In technical specifications there isnt mentioned anywhere.I am real worried about this SSD please help me finding out this SSD Type.Planning to Buy this if it is higher end SSD.

Jacsteel Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! I wish I had good news for you -- but I don't ... There is no "secret" that will fix this, as this error code indicates that your hard drive has encountered a hardware failure -- and needs to be replaced. If the PC is still under the original one-year HP warranty, you paid for HP Tech Support as part of the warranty coverage, so you might as well make use of it.While this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about diagnosing and repairing your machine remotely. You should ask them about getting a driver replacement, with this PC, you might have to send it in to HP to have that done. If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while! If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836 --------------------------- It it's not still under warranty, I would not attempt the drive replacement yourself as the days of loosening one screw to open a hard drive access panel are long gone.  Forcing the case apart could easily damage the PC beyond repair,... Hi Everyone,

This issue has been going on for about a year now, both on 32 and 64 bit XP. My computer is around 3 years old, and no hardware has changed since then.

All my drivers are up-to-date, BIOS updates, software, patches, windows etc.

I have had lots of "theories" or "temp fixes" sent to me but in reality are not suitable.

When I play music (with any player) sometimes the sound crackles, to resolve the issue I have to pause then unpause the song and it stops for the duration of that song.

My Sound Card:

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 Sound Card - OEM (PCI-Express)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...-052-CL&tool=3Click to expand...

I have found lots of information, but non suitable.

Sound issues with crackling and popping
A number of owners of X-Fi cards have come to experience what is known as a constant popping and crackling noise during use of the cards. Creative has attributed the case to be NVIDIA nForce motherboards, however many other users who do not use these motherboards continue to experience the sound issues. Creative has not provided a fix as of yet for this

I have 680i SLI NIVDIA motherboard.. but none of the above fixes work.

There's tons of websites/webpages with people having the same problem.

Answer:Sound Blaster X-Fi [Sound issues crackling]

It's a bit hard to suggest without going through everything to see what you might have tried already (although I did have a look at your second link and a very quick look at the third). So please excuse if you have already tried the following, or if they seem too obvious (more hardware than software suggestions, as you have perhaps been trying mostly software, by the look of it).

It kinda sounds like something's deteriorating, and when you give it a moment to rest, it resets itself.

You haven't mentioned anything about your speakers (or headphones). Are they OK? Have you tried others, or tried yours in another computer? Can you try a USB speaker (if you haven't got that already)? How are the connections/cables/jacks?

Do you have an onboard audio driver you can try (ie take out the sound card)? Can you borrow a sound card to try?

Maybe it's a poor connection, including solder joint, in there somewhere. Hard to track down - have to try swapping things.

Is your problem confined to one medium (CD/DVD, stored audio files, downloaded music), or does it happen with all types?

Does it happen when you're eating Rice Bubbles? -D) (It's late, OK?)

Any possibility of interference from nearby electronics or electrical appliances?

Is your power supply unit OK? (Don't know why these last two items would be fixed by pausing the song, but I'm running low on ideas - maybe I'll stop here and let someone else have a go...)

My motherboard is a PCCHIPS M848LU V1.2 http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m848lu.asp and the onboard sound is a C-Media AC97 (I don't know the exacts of it, but I think I can find out) It has up-to-date drivers

I just bought this comp from maincomp.com, its an AMD Athlon XP2600+, maxtor 30gig 7200rpm hd, 128mb ddr pc2100 ram (512 PC2700, whenever it gets here...) nvidia 128mb geforce4mx440, Windows XP Professional SP1a, 52x24x52x cd-rw..onboard NIC, onboard sound.

Anyway, whenever I play *most* (I say most because a few mp3s either from winamp radiostations or mp3s on my harddrive dont crack, but the sound quality is still alittle bad) it cracks some-what badly, some worse than others.. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and messing around with the settings, no help...everythings brand-new, so think it might be defective, or an hardware conflict? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Sound crackling, bad quality (onbored sound)

Well you could visit the PCCHIPS website and see if they have any updates for the Sound.

Also try another pair of speakers, could be bad speakers or a damaged cable/plug.

Thats a fairly nice machine, however you shouldn't have skimped on the motherboard - its one of the lowest end manufacturers of mobo's.

You may be better off by simple buying a PCI soundcard - I recommend a Creative Soundblaster - and disable the onboard sound. You'll get better quality sound and better performance in games.

In the last week, all sound on my laptop has started to crackle slightly. I changed headphones, but realized that thats not the problem. If i increase volume, the crackling gets worse, and distortion really sets in. Strange....only started happening last week. I have tried reinstalling my sound card driver, but no change there. Have looked around all my audio settings but cant find any clues. music etc is still listenable, but there is just a faint crackle constantly annoying me. and distortion if i turn the volume up louder.

Does this mean my sound card is wearing out?? or is it a physical prob inside?

my sound card is : Conexant AC link audio
i have windows xp home edition on a HP compaq nx4800

any help would be much appreciated!!

Hello,
I upgraded my Win XP to Win 7 like 1 month ago.
Downloaded all drivers (from their sites) updated them... then i open WMP 11 and start playing some music. After listening to that i heard some weird sound lag, I believe its called crackling. I searched on internet found some solutions, but none worked and none was for mine sound card.
This wasn't happening on Win XP.
Oh and if i have older version of driver it works way batter (only hear crackling when my cpu goes up to 1000MB (100%) ), but then my Microphone goes really quiet like I disabled microphone boost.

Hope you understand my problem.

Hello. I recently bought Pavilion x360 11, and on pretty much every review site etc. there was written that the full charge should last for approx. 6 hs of browsing internet. I tested it twice just browsing internet, and not even that much because at the same time i was playing on my PC. Both tests ended up in laptop hibernating after 4-4.5hs. I must say that is rather low battery lifetime, specially for me as I bought it for outside use mostly. Can it be defective battery or maybe upgrade to win 10 would work it out for me ? (asking about win 10 because I've read couple general opinions about how it extended their battery lifetime from i.e. 6.5h to 9h ) Any help would be very appreciated, as I have to make a decision if i want to replace the laptop at store or not. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Pavilion x360 screen not turning off

Namaste, iam from India and don't panic its a common issue which generally occurs when you sometimes play with your settings and can easily be cured by changing settings .Simply go to battery settings and select the plan of HP recommended and change settings to restore default and under advanced settings set it to default and restart your PC , this will solve your issue. If not just go to HP support assistant and check for latest software and drivers, I hope this will solve your issue and if not let me k now in brief about your current condition.

I have a pavilion x360 that the sound will not work on. In fact you cannot unmute the speakers, every time you do the volume level just lowers itself until the sound is muted. I had Windows 8.1 on it so I thought I would do the Windows 10 upgrade and see if that helped. Nope, same thing. I downloaded the latest realtec drivers from HP's website and uninstalled the old drivers first and still nothing. I tried disabling the realtec card and just use the PC speakers option and it worked one time but after a reboot it went right back to muting the sound again. I wonder if anyone else has had this issue and if anyone has found a cure or at least a work around?

Hello, I am sure that most people will not encounter a problem with the keyboard on HP Pavilion x360 13 models. So this is not meant in any way as a critique, I simply want to know if I can replace my keyboard. I have been using my HP Pavilion laptop (HP Pavilion x360 13-001ng, German layout) for the past 4 weeks. For the past week I have pain in my left hand due to typing on this laptop. I touch type, and I am writing and researching for over 10 hours a day on my laptop. I mostly write and type in English. The biggest issue I have is the key travel/resistance. Currently, I am coping by connecting an external keyboard (UK layout) which luckily fits over the laptop keyboard. I am considering if I should change the keyboard on my laptop which would have a better key travel. In one of the forum questions, there was a suggestion that any "island" keyboard can be used. I was wondering if any would have a suggestion on suitable alternatives to the keyboard? What is the HP Spectre x360's keyboard like in comparison to the HP Pavilion x360? I know that its unlikely but can I replace my keyboard on the HP Pavilion x360 with a traditional HP keyboard (not island keyboard)? Many thanks for your help and time.

Hi,  The auto rotation setting stopped working some time ago and I'm having troubles trying to restore it.Also the keyboard and mouse pad are not automatically locking when the laptop is in tablet mode.  The auto-rotate mode in "Screen resolution" is on.  This message appears when I open the settings bar on the right side of the screen:   Any idea how to change it? The laptop has been fully updated and restarted.  I've already tried all the suggestions from the previous topics.  Any other possible solution? Thank you!

Hi @SwaggerPony, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums!  I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion x360 Convertible  and the auto rotate not working correctly. I would make sure all updates have been done on the Notebook first. Restart the Notebook. Here is a link to show you how to configure and disable the screen rotation feature.  In the Device Manager, click the arrow next to Display Adapters. Right-click on Graphics and select Uninstall Driver Software if more than 1 Graphics adapter do 1 at a time. Then restart the Notebook. The Notebook should find and automatically install the updated driver. Please get back to me how this goes. Please click the Thumbs up below to thank me for my efforts!  Thanks

I have just purchased the HP Active Stylus that I was told would work with my HP Pavilion X360, model number 13-a110dx.I cannot get it to work, nor can i find any instructions to pair the pen. I am using Windows 8.1, and the Stylus Serial number is 7cf6471818.

Yesterday I bought a Pavilion x360 13-u100na with a HP Pro Tablet 408 Active Pen, hoping to be able to write/draw accurately on the screen. However I've tried it and whilst the laptop registers the pen, it is very flickery and impossible to do anything with it, let alone write. The touch screen works fine with my finger or a rubber-tip stylus.  Is this laptop definitely compatible with this pen and if not, are there any alternative fine-tip styluses that are? I assumed it would be compatible because PC World are selling another Pavilion x360 model in a bundle with this pen, and thought all Pavilion x360s would have the same screen. If this isn't the case, it wasn't made clear at all and I am very disappointed. Will probably return the laptop if I can't find a suitable pen...

I recently purchased a HP Pavilion X360 and I have been having problems with the display. Unless the laptop is flat on a surface, the screen goes black/very dimmed (I can still ever so slightly see the picture still). It won't brighten back up until it's flat on a surface. As well as being a nightmare to use, I also can't use the tablet mode as it flicks off as soon as I go to turn it over. Is this is a setting or a faulty laptop/tablet? Thanks

I bought a Pavilion x360 less than a month ago and itwroked great. A week ago, the computer upgraded from the build it came with to the WIndows 10 Anniversary update (version 1607). Since then, the fan spins constantly and is very audible. Occasioanlly it stops being loud but those moments are few and far between. HP coolsense has not helped at all because HP threw out the quietest mode back in the thermal assistant and turning coolsense on simply increases the speed. I've updated the BIOS and nearly all other drivers to their 1607 version but that has not helped. THe slightest task increases the fan speed and it is diffcult to work with it. I'm assuming this has to do with the update to version 1607 because it was fine befroe that. I can't rollack to the previous build because the ten days limit has passed. Does anyone know how to fix this? (Before you ask, the vents are clean.)
