Ideapad Z500 Screen Replacement

Question: Ideapad Z500 Screen Replacement

Hi there, I want to replace my device's default screen panel (1366x768) with a FULL HD (1920 x 1080) panel. I didn't open the case of my laptop to see the serial of the panel cause of warranty situations. I've talked with local Lenovo technical service in here to replace it but i learned that they don't have any screen panel replacement service for my laptop model. So i want to change it myself with a suitable panel. There're some different panels written in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for this device; HD-AG, AUO B156XTN03.4 HW0A HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200763HD-AG, CMI N156BGE-LA1 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200764HD-AG, BOE HB156WX1-600 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200765HD-AG, SDC 156AT29-401 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200706HD-AG, LGD LP156WHU-TLB1 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200766HD -G, AUO B156XTN03.2 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200449HD -G, CMI N156BGE-LB1 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200450HD -G, BOE HB156WX1-500 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200767HD -G, SDC 156AT29-L01 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200705HD -G, LGD LP156WHU-TLA1 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200768 I don't know which one is attached. I'll be glad if any Support Specialist can assist me to find out which panel is attached to my device right now. So i'll be able to search for a FULL HD one that suits. Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, my sons Z500 screen has cracked and I am after a replacement screen. This is the non touch sensitive screen and has a gloss finish. Could anyone tell me if Lenovo used just one screen for this laptop or if they used a couple of different types of screens during manufacture, like some other companies. I know I can remove the old screen to have a look at the specs, but my son is still using the laptop with an external monitor and would prefer me not to take his precious computer apart until I have the new screen. Any help will be very appreciated.many thanksIan

Hey guys,I own an IdeaPad Z500, with a ST500LM012 HN-M500MBB 500 GB HDD made by Samsung.I would like to make an upgrade with a 1TB HDD, which I would place in the HDD Caddy (DVD/CD Drive replacement). And I was also planning to get a Samsung 840 EVO SSD, which I would place in the primary HDD slot.BUT, the HDD I have at the moment is 9,5mm thick. And the 840 EVO is 7mm thick. Will I have any problems installing it in the primary HDD slot? And is there any chance I can fit a 12,5mm HDD either in the primary HDD slot or in the HDD caddy?I'm terribly sorry for my English, it's not my native tongue. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 HDD thickness; SSD replacement

medo994 wrote: ...HDD I have at the moment is 9,5mm thick. And the 840 EVO is 7mm thick. Will I have any problems installing it in the primary HDD slot? Answer: Page 71 of the Hardware maintenance manual states 9.5 mm hdd/sdd can be used. If you have the 7.0mm drive it can also be accomodated. medo994 wrote: ...And is there any chance I can fit a 12,5mm HDD either in the primary HDD slot or in the HDD caddy? Answer: For the primary hdd slot, the hdd/ssd mounting cage is designed for 9.5mm, thus a 7.0mm or 9.5mm hdd/ssd will fit. However, a 12.5 mm will not fit. For the caddy, you will have to consult the caddy specs if it will accomodate a 12.5mm hdd. Also you may have to check the dimension of the caddy against the ODD to see if it will fit in the ODD slot.

Hello all. My Laptop's screen is currently heavily cracked due to my own clumsiness though I've noticed that it is just the glass digitizer over the LCD. My issue is that I can't seem to find a straight up replacement part to swap over the old cracked glass. Any help finding one would brilliant. Failing that I've found the digitizer for a U350 which looks like it has identical dimensions; would it be possible to use this instead? Laptop is IdeaPad Z500 Touch as stated in the subject. Kind regards to all.

My Partners cat manages to know my Z500 from a table about 10 minutes ago and it has broke the housing for the screen. Atleast one screw has snapped from the metal back plate of the screen that ataches to the 'top'(black bit in image) of the laptop I've attached images to show where the damage is. My question is how can I go about getting a new housing for this laptop? It seems (at this early stage) no other damage has occured.

I've always had blue screens periodically with this laptop - had it just over a year now - but they never really bothered me. Until this morning when I woke up and tried to turn it on, after a lengthy loadup screen with the lenovo logo it went straight to a blue screen. As soon as the screen came up the laptop shut off, not giving me time to see what the error code is. When it restarts it tries to boot up system repair then goes to a black screen for ~10 minutes before blue screening and promptly restarting again. This time the restart is like the first time, straight to blue screen, then the repair to blue screen again. It just repeats this process over and over. I'm running windows 8 (not 8.1) and F8ing on the startup screen doesn't work, any help please?

Looking for a fix to this screen flickering issue on my Lenovo Ideapad Z500 Touch Screen Notebook. I took it to the Service Center and the technicians there changed the LCD cable that connects the screen with the motherboard. Still, The problem persists. The engineers over there do not seem to have a clue whether this problem is Hardware or Software and I don't wish to unnecessary get my machine disassembled again. This flicker does not happen continuously though. My notebook works fine if i keep it unmoved on the desk. But the moment i try to adjust the lid or move my notebook around, the flickering starts. To stop it, I simply put my machine on sleep mode or close the lid for 5 odd minutes. Upon wake up, The Screen again appears to work fine minus any flicker. Would appreciate any help in this regard. I have also captured a Video of the problem. Please Refer: http://youtu.be/kp12dYt6OWE

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Z500 Touch Screen Flickering!

I am having the same problem.  The screen, it seems to be the touch screen like someone is touching it, Also, magnifies in and out.  If I move the laptop, or the screen that can cause it to start.  Or it just starts by its self, if I leave it on, when I come back it flickering.  I have to close it down and start all over again.I took it to a shop, they tried a few things but couldn't fix it, some suggestions: they thought it might be something to do with the graphics?? Maybe!   If anybody has this problem and sloved it, be really good to hear from you.

A grey/white-ish single and horizontal line appears on my display of Z500 Ideapad (I have a Windows 7). I had a similar problem a few months ago but managed somehow to fix it. However I forgot which drivers exactly I am suppoed to re-install and randomly guessing this time has not brought me any luck.Does anyone have any idea what to do about it?All advice is highly appreciated!

Answer:grey horizontal line on screen of Z500 Ideapad

hi vivvi555,

Welcome to the Forums.

Just to verify, do you only see this grey/white-ish horizontal line inside Windows or does it appear right away after powering up the machine (i.e., in the Lenovo splash screen or Windows loading screen) ?

Things that you can try:
1. Uninstall the Intel and Nvidia drivers from the Control Panel (icon views) > Programs and Features (reboot if necessary). When the machine boots back up, re-install these drivers in order then reboot.
1st - Intel Video Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Notebook
2nd - Nvidia Video Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)

2. If same problem, try attaching an external monitor and check if that horizontal line is still there.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

The hard drive died so I bought and installed an SSD into the system, fresh install of Windows 10 64bit. I have managed to find the chipset and other basic drivers but have no ability to turn the backlight of the keyboard on or adjust the screen brightness. This problem is there almost 90% time when I restart or power on my machine. This problem is very annoying because whenever due to windows update machine restarts multiple time i have to sit there to press the key, its very painful. My BIOS version is 1.21, I have also tried resstting the BIOS by entering to BIOS setup, but issue is not resolved. This issue is not new, this was there when I bought this laptop, initially I ignored it because of workaround. . is there any solution to this problem?

Hello everyone! I just got the Lenovo IdeaPad Z500, I7 on Windows 8 OS a couple of weeks back. Everything was working fine until just several hours ago. I had just downloaded a software for a VPN and had reboot my laptop after it had finished installing. I was able to open Google Chrome and was in the process of opening the sites I had previously been browsing when the screen froze. I didn't think much of it since I had experience with the system freezing in the past. That was until my laptop continued in its frozen state and would not respond even if I moved the mouse of the track pad.  It's still in its frozen state up to now. I was even trying to push the One Key Recover button on the left side of the machine but it's still not responding. I'm hesitant to go this route though since I may not  be able to recover my files. So right now I'm basically waiting for the battery to die out and I'll see what happens then. Anyone experienced this? What do I need to do in this situation. I'd hate to lose my files as  I hdn't backed up. Help please!

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 screen/system freezes and remains unresonsive

Hi Mr_Greenfield,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try holding down the Power Button until it shuts Off.
If the freezing persists try Uninstalling the Software you downloaded and see if it is the one causing the problem.
If not perform a clean boot

Best Regards

Hi there! I just recieved my refurb ideapad z500 and not only was the battery not working ,but it has a wierd small white/bright spot on the screen. Will waranty replace it? Also what is it? Thanks!     I picked up my laptop last Friday from UPS. As soon as I got arround to opening it, I noticed that it would no power on without being pluggen in. That is strange because all my previous laptops had at least enough charge to power on, and it said it had 34%(when I powered it on with the power cord). That was the first strange thing. Then, after about a couple hours, I checked to see if it had charged anymore and it still said ?Plugged in, charging 34%?. I left it all night. The next morning, I went to see if it had moved. It hadnt. Then I thought maybe it was just saying that so I unplugged it. It still wouldn?t come on without the power cord. Then on Sunday it finally told me ?Plugged in, Not charging 34%. Somethings wrong with it. Then, I noticed a strange white spot on the right side of the display. It was really annoying me so I called in and added that to the repair list. I just Googled it and it seems like a problem with some lenovo laptops. I also talked to my friend (who knows a lot about computers) and he said it was something behind the display. Will they fix these issues since it was supposedly "inspected" and was as good as new. Thanks!

I cracked my LCD screen on my ideapad U450P.  I called Lenovo sales depart and they told me they don't sell the replacement LCD FRU# 18003822.  Therefore, I bought a compatible LCD screen online.   The new LCD turned on but displayed a blank screen when I turned on my laptop.   The only way I got it to work was boot up to Windows 7 with the cracked original LCD then swap out the new LCD, but once I reboot the screen will display a blank screen again.   I think the BIOS doesn't recognize the replacement LCD.  Does anyone have suggestion?  Thanks in advance. Update: I must gotten wrong LCD screen.  I finally broke down and ordered another replacement LCD from Ebay which shipped from China.  It works.  I am really PO at Lenovo for not offer to sell the replacement LCD.  They wanted me to sent my laptop to their service center and probably rape me for removing freaking 8 screws (Really).  All in all I am happy to have my laptop working again.

I have a broken screen, and I need to know specifics when it comes to ordering a replacement. Looking online this looks simple enough to do myself. I don't want to remove the screen prior to having a replacement on hand, because I can still see enough to do some work in class and the damage is severe enough that it might not be usable at all once I've done anything to it. I read another post from the user with the same problem: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/N586-LCD-screen-replacement/td-p/906585 but was unable to make sense of the reply left by staff, which was to look at this manual: http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_p580_p585_n580_n581_n585_n586_hmm_1st_editio... for a LCD FRU part number on page 93. There is no such listing on page 93 (there are bezels and everything else, but nothing I understand as the screen itself), so if anyone can clarify I'd appreciate the help.

Hi,  My laptop screen is broken - not sure how it happened. Looks like Lenovo customer service will do this repair under out of warranty even though I have warranty. And apparently from google reviews, I gathered that it costs more than the cost of laptop.  I decided to buy a screen and try to replace it myself. What are the best resources (websites or shops) to buy the screen?  ThanksSarvani

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Z 580 screen replacement

hi sarvani,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

This is the Only LCD Part / Part number shipped with Z580s

You can Google the FRU NO / Part number and you'll find resellers selling the LCD

Try searching for  "Lenovo 18200158"

Hope this helps
Cheers!

I broke my screen, bought a replacement successfully switching from glossy to matte screen all in one week. Here's what I did and my information about the screen. Glossy Screen (original) Model Number:       B140XW03 V.0Matte Screen (new) Model Number:                B140XW02 V.3 Original picNew pic  I bought the new matte screen from laptopscreen.com, at a fairly cheap price of $74.51 USD after shipping, tax, etc. I didn?t think to look around at other vendors because I?ve bought screens at this site before and everything went swimmingly. I don?t know why the V.3 is different from the original. I guessed it meant version number; regardless the screen is working wonderfully in my Ideapad U400 laptop.   first step:Take off the bezel around the screen? The manual guide [here] (under FRU Removals and Replacement) demonstrates the butter like removal of the bezel, well it?s not. Using a small very flat prying device, as shown in my picture and in the manual guide, which will not damage the aluminum bezel, is a must. An important note to mention, much like the rest of the laptop, tape is used around the whole perimeter of the screen to stick more securely to the bezel, but this makes it difficult when removing. Try not to focus too much in one section on the bezel or else you could bend the thin aluminum, creating a wavy bumpiness instead of flush smooth surface.... Read more

Hi everybody.

Few weeks ago, I bougth a laptop Ideapad 100s 14lBR 80R9, and during a recent trip the screen got hit somehow and it has to be replaced. The closest assistance point told me the warrant does not cover this damage and asked me for 120 euro to replace the screen, which sounded a bit insane to me, as I had spent 200 euros for the whole laptop, and I did so because I wanted a simple cheap laptop to bring with me during my journeys (and I've started considering Ideapad was not my best choice...).

Therefore, I thought to buy directly the screen and change it myself, as I am quite confident with computers and do myself all the replacement of parts to upgrade old ones. On the Lenovo website, it is out of order (and whenever available, it costs 350$...). Can you recommand an online shop when I can buy the screen replacement, please? I live in Italy, so the closer would be the better.
Do you think this one could do the work?

Francesco.

I replaced my screen recently after it broke. I had a lenovo B570 and I just swapped the screens.  After I restarted the computer I realized that the fn key and vol up cannot adjust neither going into power management adjusts the backlight.  note:: Drivers are upto date. I'd like a solution to the problem. Google searches are unsuccessful.

Answer:Unable to adjust brightness on Lenovo Ideapad N585 after screen replacement

The FN keys are not controlled by window/drivers. They are controlled by BIOS. Have a look through your bios settings and make sure that everything looks ok. If no luck, check for bios update.

I have a z500 (non-touch) that recently had its screen broken. I plan to purchase the LCD part and replace it myself. I was wondering if I could purchase the part(s) for the z500 touch and give myself touchscreen capabilities as well.Is such a solution possible? If so, what  parts might I need to purchase to make such a solution work? Thanks,  -Ben C.

Answer:Replace z500 screen with z500 touch screen?

HiWelcome to the forum and Happy New year!!This in all probabilities won't work.Reason: Touch devices have an extra glass touch layer over the lcd and both the touch and the lcd are distinctively attached to the main circuit/systemboard of the device/laptop/mobile/tablets.So, firstly, your mainboard should atleast have a port to attach a touch glass and secondly, the structure of the laptop should support it too.So, in my opinioin, it is a suicidal move and you should try it.Hope this Helps.Regards

Hello,Abou 30 minutes ago I got my Z500's HDD replaced (The original Seagate which is about 1.5 years old broke) with an Intel 120GB SSD. However, the two USB 2.0 ports on the right side stopped working after. I reinstalled windows with all drivers, but it didn't fix the problem. The USBs themselves are connected because if I connect my mobile phone, it charges the battery, but Windows doesn't detect the plugged in device. Any help is much appreciated!

Answer:[Z500] USB 2.0 ports not working after HDD replacement

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Have whoever replaced the hard drive go back into your laptop.  They need to check the ribbon cable connections between the audio board that houses those two USB ports and the motherboard.  Chances are the cable became unseated when they were working inside.

I just recently got the Ideapad Z500 for my birthday and I loved it but there is one thing that is doing my head in and I wonder if there is a way to stop it or fix it. Basically the "i" key on my keyboard is super sensitive and I don't need to push it down, just slightly touching it types an "i" and means I keep accidentally typing an "i" just because I accidentally touched it. Does anyone have the same problem and do you know if there is a way of fixing it?!

Answer:I key on Ideapad z500

should also mention I don't know if this is a feature of the laptop considering the "i" is a commonly used key??

Answer:ideapad z500

hi Safi2905,

Welcome to the Forums.

You might want to follow this thread and apply this battery firmware update to address the battery concerns. As for the fan kicking in at power up, this is most likely a thermal design to keep the laptop running cool - unless you're hearing rattling / grinding noise that might indicate a faulty fan, otherwise, this is normal.

Hello!I bought my new Lenovo Ideapad Z500 only two weeks ago and since than it works fine, however yesterday it produced a very strange error. When I turn on my laptop it stops when the Lenovo logo shows up and freezes. The worst problem is that, it doesn't happen every time I turn it on, so when I bruoght it back to the shop, it was working fine again, and after I arrived home, it did the same error. It wasn't only a one time experience, I've tried it at least ten times, and it stopped on the Lenovo logo over and over again. I send it back to the service, however, I am curious whether I'm the only one facing with this weird issue or not. Thank you for your time!Best regards to all!

Hi doma,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the computer is hanging at Lenovo LOGO; this may be the issue with the bad sectors in the HDD, we are getting this issue for the first time. As you have sent it to the service center you need not worry the issue will be resolved.

Hi all, I have an issue with my Lenovo Z500 touch. The USB 3.0 port on the left is not working. When I attach an external HDD, the HDD light is on, so it is powered, it is not seen by my pc.I have looked in the Device Manager and there's an error in the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller. It says that the device cannot start. Tried to udate the driver, but it says that the driver is up to date. I have Windows 8.1. The other 2 USB 2.0 ports work fine. Any idea? Could be a driver problem? Here is the event in the Device manager: Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&SUBSYS_397717AA&REV_04\3&11583659&0&A0 had a problem starting.Driver Name: usbxhci.inf Thank you in advance. Michele

Hi,I have z500 ideapad with 6 GB ram,1TB HDD and i5 processor...could you please tell me till which memry system will support...shall I upgrade to 12 GB8gb and 4 GB in two slotsPlease adviceThanks,Rajesh

Answer:Z500 ideapad RAM upgrade

hi Rajesh,

Welcome to the Forums.

From page 26 of the HMM, the Z500 can take up to:

Standard  Memory ? DDR3-1600/1333MHz SODIMM 2 (max 16 GB)

A 12GB (8GB+4GB) upgrade is also feasible but if the machine came with 4GB (2GBx2), I would go for an 8GB(4GBx2) or 16GB (8GBx2) depending on your needs and workload.

Hi, I am in the market for a new laptop and have narrowed my choices to the Sony Vaio S here http://bit.ly/TAPlYC with Windows 8 Pro and 1 year of support as perhaps the only upgrades and the IdeaPad z500s here http://lnv.gy/WtWizp . I am upset that Lenovo does not offer the 7200 rpm option for the hard drive nor a higher screen resoltion. I personally think the 1920 x 1080 on the Viao S is a bit too high, but the 1366x768 of the z500 is way way way too low in my opinion. I want to love lenovo because the community seems great, but the lack of upgrade options is troubling.  Also, a more general question: I am a web developer that does php/html/css editing/developing using a text editor (not heavy ones like Dreamweaver), watches netflix and listens to things like Spotify. Are the HD 4000 Graphics good enough for me? I know RAM is helpful here, but I like to buy my own RAM because it's fun hunting for it (thats why I dont need an 8GB lenovo option to buy) Any thoughts/advice? Thanks, James

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 - low specs?

hi James,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If you're leaning to the Lenovo Z500, the built-in HD 4000 graphics will be good enough for any php/html programming (especially if you use editors) as this embedded graphics card is on par with the AMD Radeon HD 7520G (based on 3D benchmark).

The screen size though is something that can't be customized but the HDD, you can. If you want fast boot-up,and response time pf your programs you might wanna consider switching to SSD as it's 2-3 times faster than a regular HDD and you can get an enclosure to convert your HDD as an external drive or make your system a hyrid drive (SSD as primary, HDD as secondary, you will need this:

Hi,

My one month old z500 fails to boot and gives an error message saying "DEFAULT BOOT DEVICE MISSING OR BOOT FAILED."

This happened after i had to force my pc to shut down by pressing and holding the power button because it hadn't been responding for a while and I was only browsing on the web. When I attempted to restart it I encountered that error message

I suspect it's a hdd related problem because when I enter BIOS it says "not detected" in front of "Hard Disk" caption. That means hard disk is not recognized by BIOS. I tried one key recovery but it's useles cause nothing happens when I press okr button.

What do you think this is caused by and what should be done to recover my pc.

Thanks in advance...  Sorry for bad English.

Hi abodialansi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

This configuration with the RAM is OK

Based on the Datasheet of your model This can go to 8GB / 16GB
Ive highlighted the option you prefer with the RAM

About the Discrete NVIDIA GPU, Itis soldered to the Mainboard thus not letting any upgrade to it.
Upgrading the board means upgrading the whole Motherboard, which might not be preferred since it may only give you a minimal upgrade in terms of performance.

Hope this info helped

But on some days it shows just 1 bar and the internet doesn't work. This is random behavior.  I checked with the Intel Driver update, the wireless driver is updated. It's Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230.

Is it a simple uninstall Windows 8 and install Linux or are there complications?Failing that do I downgrade to Windows 7 (at more cost) or can you recommend some other option. Windows 8 is totally spoiled because of all the intrusive adverts, especially on XBox. Why not let your computer savvy friend do what she/he has suggested?

Hi.I bought the Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and I'm trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Windows on it.When I start the boot menu I only see the hard-drive, the DVD and the network.I tried to set both UEFI mode and Legacy mode in BIOS but the USB stick does not appear in the menu when I boot.I put the image of windows with Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool which formats the stick in NTFS mode.I have the latest BIOS v1.21 and I tried with 2 different USB sticks: one 16GB USB 2.0 Corsair and with a 32GB USB 3.0 ADATA both on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the notebook.I really haven't seen anything like this in my entire career. I even downloaded the file efi\boot\BOOTX64.efi and replaced the one that Windows come with on the specified folder on the USB stick ....Why is so difficult to choose the USB boot drive on the newer notebooks?Does someone have a clue how can I boot from USB?Thanks in advance!  Bupitz

Answer:USB boot for Ideapad Z500

Hi,

I don't think I can be of much help, but a couple of things to try:  if your USB flash drive is formatted NTFS, it will only boot in legacy mode if it is bootable at all.  One thing you might try is to set the partition active if it isn't already.

If you want to boot in UEFI mode, format the flash drive with a single FAT32 partition.  Copy the contents of your install DVD to the flash drive.  If you're using an ISO copy the contents of the iso using a tool like 7zip.  UEFI bootabiliyt doesn't require using a special tool to prep the drive.  Just format it and copy the install medium to it.

Win7 requires CSM support in bios to boot successfully in UEFI mode.  That may always be enabled in UEFI mode or it may be a separate option in BIOS.

Hello, I want to know whether Edge Scrolling using the touch pad mouse on Lenovo Z500 Touch is possible.  When I try to adjust the settings on my ELAN Pointing Device options, I see Edge Swipe, but not Edge Scrolling.  I just bought this laptop, but I made sure that I do have the latest drivers for my touch pad.  Moreover, I think this feature was meant to be included in the software because the registry options and demonstration videos suggest Edge Scrolling is possible under this hardware and software.  So what gives? I strongly dislike having to use two fingers to scroll on my touch pad instead of being able to use the edges.  This is a pretty basic feature on most laptops these days, and I used to use it daily on my previous Lenovo laptop.  If I can't have it on this new computer, I will probably return it.  I appreciate any help in resolving this.

I have a new z500 that I've downgraded to Windows 7 64bit. For the most part I have everything working. I accidentally hit the brightness + (yes, +) and it instantly dimmed the screen to where it is barely viewable. It seems that hitting that one key decreased the brightness to the minimum amount. I've rebooted, looked for a setting in the BIOS, hit the Brightness +/- and can't increase the brightness. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The screen is extremely dim whenever the machine is powered on (including the BIOS), not just in Windows. I tried a lot of intel chipset drivers, the available Intel HD 4000 drivers in Win8 and win7 too, but nothing working. Can someone please help with how to up the brightness?

Hi! I just bought a Lenovo Z500 to start studying 3D animation, so I got a student license to download and install it. Although it seems the laptop has every needed requires to install and use it, it seems to have some sort of error starting up, and sending reports to Autodesk is getting me nowhere. I did my researches, and seem to be a solution, but I couldn't complete it. Hi,My laptop has been experiencing a lot of problems. One of them is that it will automatically restart and reset everything in response to lagging, and after the restart process, I will loose all my saved files and date. This has occured multiple times, and I did not receive much assistance from the customer service back home.My laptop also consumes battery energy really fast. It says online at the official website,  that the battery life is an average of 5 hours for regular web browsing but mine only lasts for maximum 90 minutes and would shut down at under 20%.

I've recently started experiencing issues with my Ideapad Z500. The warranty has expried, and so i cannot send it off to get repaired. I've replaced the laptop charger, with multiple different ones, all working, and yet it will still not charge. It will not turn on when plugged into the mains. I've attempted to remove the battery, and power through the mains, and yet it will still not power on. I've replaced the internal power jack (one which connects to the motherboard), and yet it will still not charge. There is no visible signs on the motherboard as to scorch marks where it could of shorted out.  From my point of view, everything is as it should be, but the laptop will just not power on at all. Any ideas on what can be done to get this working again?

Hi all. I bought a Lenovo z500 notebook 3 days ago. Everything is perfect but I have a big problem. As you know, this machine has 2 graphic cards, one of them is Intel and another is NVidia. -  I have downloaded the Intel Graphic drivers from Lenovo's support website and I could install it correctly. However, if I try to install a NVidia driver it says "Graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware"  I tried the newest driver and some old drivers +  the driver from Lenovo Support website but I couldnt install it.-  Also there is nothing about NVidia in the Device Manager. It only shows Intel graphic card.-  Monitoring programs like AIDA64, CPU-Z, GPU-Z  show only Intel, they cannot see NVidia too.-  I updated the bios to the newest version, v18 but nothing changed.-  Graphic setting is "Switchable" in the bios. Now,  how can I fix this problem ? Thanks.

Answer:please help Ideapad z500 graphic card

Hi sherif1984 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It maybe the Windows automatic update that changed previous driver , it would help if you recall the date it was working ok with the driver for a system restore to jump back .

Check current version of the video driver via device manager (right click on device for property) . It may also offer rollback driver but system restore can provide better rollback as it applies with all other drivers that may have changed along with the date.

Older drivers version are available from the support site on a different OS version .
Z500 is not listed on Win10 supported models that is why Win10 driver versions are not available.

Particular configurations of a computer model may include hardware components not compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, its upgrade to Windows 10 is not recommended.
The following listed computer models include hardware components not fully compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, upgrading these models to Windows 10 is not recommended

Hi all, Recently bought an Intel Core i5 3360m 2.8Ghz on Ebay for my Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 to upgrade from an i5 3210m. Problem is when I install it, the laptop won't boot. No display, nothing. Works fine when I put the old one back in. Reading the documentation, the 3360m is supported so I don't understand why it's not working. Got the latest BIOS version. Can anyone help? ThanksAndrew

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 CPU upgrade issue

These are the differences between the two processor from Intel's site:Intel vPro? TechnologyIntel Virtualization TechnologyIntel Trusted Execution Technology If they are compatible they should work in your unit. However, since it does not one possible reason I can think of is again Lenovo's restrictions just like in their wifi card. I could be wrong. Try the Ebay processor in another unit (not necessarily a Lenovo unit) to be sure it is not defective.
