Remove Edge from Taskbar using PowerShell

Question: Remove Edge from Taskbar using PowerShell

I am using a PowerShell script to add and remove icons to taskbar - users can run it. Basically it uses the PS verbs to pin or unpin. Works fine but I can't get rid of Edge.
$shell = New-Object -ComObject Shell.Application

#Unpin Microsoft Edge
$folder = $shell.NameSpace((Join-Path ${env:Windir} 'SystemApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe'))
$item = $folder.parsename('MicrosoftEdge.exe')
$verb = $item.Verbs() | ? {$_.Name -eq 'Unpin from tas&kbar'}
if ($verb) {$verb.DoIt()}
Looking at articles it states the file location of Microsoftedge.exe to be as above but if you run the script above manually there is no verb to unpin so I'm pretty sure the icon is NOT from that exe. Moreover that icon has a white background. By hand you
can do an unpin from Taskbar so where is this icon located ???. I realise the icons are created with the profile, but that's the whole point of running it as the user so they can pin/unpin as needed via the script

Preferred Solution: Remove Edge from Taskbar using PowerShell

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone, I need your help,

I?m talking about the right edge of the taskbar, separated next to the time by a vertical line (in red in the image):

It seems to be a desktop button, because clicking on it, hides all the open windows, to reveal only the desktop (wallpaper).

I don?t need it, and I find it disturbing.

Answer:How can I remove the ‘button’ close to the right edge of the taskbar?

I've been using Win 10 for ten months now as a tester and didn't even know that was there. Can't imagine it causing anyone problems though.

Hello everyone. I joined the forum today and hope you can help me out. On my work desktop I am running Windows 7 and I want to upgrade PowerShell version 2.0 to 4.0 as a minimum or 5.0. I've read many articles on fixing Windows PowerShell issues but my case seems to be a little different.

To begin, I have the following prerequisites on my computer:
Windows 7 SP1
.NET 4.5
Here is the list of all .NET versions on my computer:
v2.050727 2.050727.5420 SP2
v3.0 3.0.30729.5420 SP2
v3.5 3.5.30729.5420 SP1
v4
Client 4.6.01055
Full 4.6.01055
v4.0
Client 4.0.0.0

The version of PowerShell that I have access to is 2.0. When I try to install Windows Management Framework 4.0 (x64: Windows6.1-KB2819745-x64-MultiPkg.msu) I get the following message: "Update for Windows (KB2819745) is already installed on this computer." but when I look for it in "View installed updates" or "Uninstall or change a program", it doesn't show up. I've done searches for it on my computer and came up empty. Powershell does not show up in my "All Programs" list, Program Files / Program Files (86) or its Common Files, or in the local or roaming user files. The only place I see remnants of it such as the powershell.exe file is within C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-powershell-exe_31bf3856ad364e35_7.3.7601.933_none_3989ef6dcae7e4a9 and a few other folders like it within the winsxs directory. I don't even think the version 2.0 I am a... Read more

Hi, I have a kiosk PC that is looking pretty good however I have two outstanding issues.

The users can still right click on applications on the taskbar and receive a context menu even though I've disabled the context menu in the group policy editor.
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Start Menu and Taskbar/Remove access to the context menus for the taskbar - Enabled

And I can't figure out how to remove the "show desktop" icon in the systems notification tray.

Thanks in advance for any help
Megan Armstrong.

Answer:Windows 7 Restricted User - Remove Right click on taskbar icons; Remove show desktop icon

Hello Megan,

Hope you're doing fine.

Disabling context menu from application on the taskbar
Please note the task bar context menu for any application for windows 7 is sub-divided into two sections :

   a. Jumplist(to access recently opened files)
   b. Creating a new instance of the application, Pin/Unpin, Close window

We can only disable the Jump List of the Taskbar context menu but not the "new instance creation, Pin/Unpin, close window"

Please follow the steps below to disable jump list:
1. Right-click on the Taskbar and then select Properties.
2. Click on the Start Menu tab and uncheck "Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar".
3. Click OK.

Disabling Show Desktop from the system tray
Regarding the requirement of disabling the "Show Desktop" button alltogether from the System tray, this is by design.

There are no ways to remove it. All we can do is to disable aero peek at Taskbar properties by right clicking and uncheck the option "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop".
There's a third party software which addresses this sopecific purpose but I'm not pretty sure if this works perfectly for Windows 7 SP1 as well. Please refer to the link below.

Hi I have a Edge 15 running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit and Office 2007, it runs extended desktop via the Lenovo USB Replicator, every now and again the Taskbar stops responding to mouse clicks as well as anything on the external screen, the mouse moves about on both screens fine and clicking works on any apps open on the laptop screen, at first I thought mouse problem so swapped mouse but the problem stayed, in the end I brought up the Task Manager via CTRL ALT DELETE and killed explorer.exe then went to run and restarted it, I am then able to use it normally as well as the external screen. It happens about 2 or 3 times a week, I know its not a lot but its often enough that I'd like to know how to fix it! If anyone has any ideas that would be great. Mark

Answer:Edge 15 Taskbar problem

This usually happens when the shell is trying to access a resource that is busy (like a network drive or a CD-ROM). This is not related to your Thinkpad.. it's a Windows thing.

I tried right clicking on the file and shortcut but it only says Unpin from Start, and also tried dragging and dropping, but just shows a error symbol on my mouse and takes file back to its position on the desktop. It just randomly disappeared from my taskbar and was left on my desktop one day when I was logging in, and I can't get it back on the taskbar.

Hello Silcri, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If you like, you can "Pin to taskbar" the Microsoft Edge shortcut created in the tutorial below.

I've enabled the auto-hide taskbar in Windows 7, but when the taskbar is hidden, the very top of the taskbar is still visible, leaving an edge.

Is there a fix?

My guess is: this is a video driver issue.

You can try to...
...re-install the same version that you have now
...install a newer version - if available

When I right-click the Microsft Edge icon on either the Desktop or the Start Menu, I do not get the option to pin to the Taskbar, only the option to pin to Start Menu. Also, dragging the icon to the task bar gives an error symbol and does not work. However, other applications work just fine with the exception of Steam games.

Does anybody know a method to get Edge pinned to the taskbar?

Edge should be pinned to the task bar upon delivery of the OS to your machine.

Hello Matthew, and welcome to Ten Forums.

You could do so by unpinning Microsoft Edge from the taskbar and Start menu, and setting whatever web browser you wanted to use instead as the default program instead.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5...dows-10-a.html

I have already chosen chrome to be my default browser and when I double click on an html file, it opens in chrome as I expect. However I still can't unpin Microsoft Edge from the taskbar as you suggest. When I right click on the edge icon in the taskbar this is what I see:

This is seriously messed up, since it is giving me a choice to pin Microsoft Edge to the taskbar. Why would it give me such a choice when it is already pinned to the taskbar @#$&!!

(By the way, the four icons to the left of my system tray were added by using the quicklaunch toolbar mechanism, but this does not seem related to the problem.)

What's more when I right click on every other icon in the taskbar, the menu presented includes an option to "unpin" the application from the taskbar. It almost seems that Microsoft is going out of its way to tell me what I want. Yet I haven't seen others complaining of this problem, so perhaps there is a problem with my windows 10 setup? I thought I may have an extra icon somewhere that I could delete, so I checked here:

Hi, I'm searching for a way to keep the taskbar on top of windows without reserving the screen edge.

I have my taskbar on the top screen edge and would like the have maximized windows place their titlebar to the natural edge of the screen, not flush with the taskbar, thus allowing me to hide the title bar under the always-on-top taskbar, giving me more screen space.

I've noticed in other threads that some people are reporting this as a bug they wish to solve; for me it would be a useful feature.

thanks,
Steve

Answer:Allowing taskbar on top without reserving screen edge

Here's a look you can try;

Leave the Taskbar setting to Keep on Top (a misnomer but hey!).

Right click on the toolbars at the top click Customize and put the Full Screen button onto the Toolbar.

Left click it.

On my comp, that covers the Task bar until I cursor over it (hidden) BUT eliminates the Title bar, which is essentially what you want.

Hi
I put my taskbar at the top side of the screen.
No problem so far. But when i play a video in edge on full screen and afterwards i go back to normal mode then i have Always a problem. The tabsheets of edge always disappear under the taskbar. So i had to right click every time on the taskbar options and set a mark by Hide taskbar automatically.
I want that the taskbar stay visible and not hide. When i don't do that i can't go to a other tabsheet.

What is the problem ? When i had the taskbar at the bottom no problem.

Hello everyone,

First post here and thanks for allowing me to be a part of the community!

My first question is while attempting to pin a website to the task bar in Edge I followed the directions and selected the "3 dots menu" and then selected "open with IE" option as instructed.

When I click on the webpage icon in the task bar the site indeed comes up but it is in Internet Explorer rather than Edge. Is there any way I can pin the site to the task bar and have it launch in Edge rather than IE? I understand it opens in IE because I opened the website in Edge and then told it to open with IE.

When I tried pinning the tab to the task bar in Edge I got the universal red circle with the line through it so I couldn't pin it unless I opened it in IE.

Ive noticed when I pin a website to the Start Menu that it will open in Edge. Is it not possible to have this happen by using the task bar?

Thanks so much for your help.

Appreciate interacting with you folks very much.

best,

rick

Hello there! I purchased and upgraded to Microsoft Windows 10! Finally, right?

But anyways, I've spent the last few days customizing all my options and settings that I had back on Windows 8.1. Takes hours to do all that. Got all my settings saved as text with directions. Anyways, I've ran into a problem that seems difficult to fix. My version of Windows 10 is the Anniversary Edition, for what I've read and when I've downloaded it.

So there are two icons in the Taskbar that cannot seem to get unpinned; Microsoft Edge & Store. I right click on them, yet there is no unpin option (check the attached image). Is there any other workaround yet for removing those two icons at all? Some Registry edit or something?

Answer:Cannot Unpin Microsoft Edge & Store Icons From The Taskbar

I left the Store but did Unpin Edge from Taskbar on my Win10 Pro. I did put Internet Explorer on so wonder if that makes a difference? Also have Firefox and SeaMonkey there.

This is NOT the same "messed up" msg as the other one I just posted !

I've messed up and I don't know how to undo it. I clicked "do not show this message again on taskbar" on a notification that kept popping up on my desktop everytime I logged on. Now, whenever I log on, left clicking on the little four-box windows icon at the left end of my taskbar does nothing at all. So I can no longer get the screen that includes my name, and the options to sign out, log off, restart, etc.. Moreover, my wife can't either, when she logs on under her name. All either of us can do to sign off is right click on the little window thingy and pick one of the options that come up under that particular drop down menu of choices.

I don't know what I did wrong and I can't undo it.

I need to resize a window by moving my mouse to its lower edge. When I try to do this, the taskbar (set to autohide) comes up and gets in the way. Is there a means to suppress the taskbar temporarily for this operation?

Answer:Kep taskbar down when resizing a window at bottom edge of screen?

Not that I know of offhand.. but the question has been asked a good number of times over the years - these are for Win 7 mostly- if you search for Win 8 or Win 10 you may have more recent answers:
Add delay to auto-hide taskbar - Microsoft Community

Add a delay time to Taskbar autohide? - Windows 7 Help Forums

https://www.eightforums.com/customization/44638-add-delay-hidden-taskbar.html

I can also suggest a way to do that e.g. with ALT + right mouse key (or other combinations) which avoids approaching the bottom edge of the window entirely.

When I right click programs in the taskbar I have the option to "pin them to the tasbar". Is it possible to remove this option from the right click menu?

Answer:Remove "pin this program to taskbar" from right click menu in taskbar

Here's a discussion that makes it seem possible, but I would say it's too much work to make it worth it:

How to Remove "Pin this program to taskbar" (Network Steve Forum)

This isn't a guide, but it's a question that was posted asking the same question you're asking.

Also, the discussion is a little bit hard for me to follow because it's a thread but the responses to previous posts begin immediately following the last character of the post they're responding to.

To skip to down to the part that might work for some of your programs, perform a Ctrl+F search for "got". This is the first word of the post that suggests a possible solution for some programs that might allow it. Read the replies that this post received.

Hi All, I did an upgrade from Win7 HP 64 bit to Win 10 - I triggered it manually from the MS download. At first all was well, but then Edge locked up. I killed the appropriate processes in Task Manager, then rebooted. The PC basicall works, but some of the major bits of the interface do not:
The Edge & Store icons in the Taskbar are blank. Clicking where the Store button should be brings a message that 'This app can't open' and refreshing the PC might help fix it. The Edge button location does nothing.
The Start button or key also do nothing visible, the Search doesn't work either - so I can't get into Settings - Control Panel is accessible, but of course doesn't have the new Settings.
I booted from DVD - got into Repair, but it won't roll back to the previous version (which I did use on another PC to get back to Win7).
A system restore did complete, but hasn't fixed things. Also, trying to Reset the PC failed too. I also tried a new User account (which I found as a possible fix) - I had to do this via CMD - no good either.
So, before I do a clean install, is there anything else I can do?
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Win 10 broken - blank Edge, Store in Taskbar, Start not working at all

As we know reset would be like a clean install. Fact being if ever did want to go back to old OS,since having issues now even trying rollback. Through advanced options it did not work either, rollback to Win 7 ? https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4...s-windows.html

This is a long shot, but try system file checker and DISM.

Admin Command prompt copy paste and press enter, let it finish
sfc /scannow

Same open command prompt, copy and paste this, press enter let it finish
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

reboot the pc, make take several reboots 3x's and several tries with these commands to try to fix it, if it can.
When you booted from the DVD it was a Windows 10 iso disc, right ?

Before an update earlier this week, when I hovered over the Edge icon on my taskbar and I had multiple windows open, it would show me previews of all the windows I had open. It now no longer does this but now it says at the top of the preview of the one window that does open it says " Edge and 1 more page". Wondering if anyone else has seen this and if there is aa way to recover back to previous way. Outlook does still show multiple windows open when hovering over that icon. Thanks for you help.

Hello
Some icons like parameters specifics like Edge, contacts, camera etc... are like empty in the task bar, only transparency
You can see it on my task bar as the last open icon on the right is clear (no icon parameters)

i tried to find a way to make them appear, but can't find a solution
I would appr?ciate if someone can help me with that
best regards Ric.

I would precise that everything else works well...no other problem noted with my win10
All others icons are ok but not the news icon of Win 10. I think perhaps i throw them during cleaning with CCcleaner, but not sure they were here before
I took a look at the two files "shell32" and "imageres" in the system32 folder, but no icon for win 10 theme...
They are in another place i think, but couldn't find them at that time.

This afternoon, i did an icon rebuilt for win10, but no result, and i did another install of win 10 over mine, and no difference....

I'd like to have the Microsoft Edge Icon on the taskbar again as the only way to access it at the moment is using the search field at the far left of the taskbar running along the bottom of the screen and for some reason this doesn't respect the settings I have. Hi,
Welcome to the forum
The search box only uses Bing, I am not aware of any settings to change this, it is an MS search similar to how Google use Google Now which only works with google searches

For Edge on the taskbar, if you search for it and run it, when it appears on the taskbar can you right click it and select pin to taskbar
Alternatively Start Menu->All Apps then find Edge and right click and select pin to taskbar

I know this is a windows problem, but I have scoured the internet with no solution.  If i unpin the edge and store icon from the taskbar and I reboot or logout (or just kill and restart explore.exe) then they come back.  There are 2 fixes that are supposed to work - removing these from registry key, and from a roaming profile path - but none of that works for me.  Anyone got any other ideas?

Hi, I've been experiencing increasingly serious issues with my E425 since about last month. Some background: owned this laptop for a bit over a year now (I believe), and starting last month I started to notice that when I left my laptop on without a restart for too long (I have a habit of hibernating rather than just shutting down) the laptop would occasionally and suddenly slow down to a near halt. It's hard to explain via text, but basically processing simple tasks (e.g. loading a web page) would not work and the windows task bar would freeze. when i try to load other programs to figure out what happened, there's no response. I've tried waiting for the tasks to process but nearly an hour later it's still not doing anything. I mitigated these issues by simply shutting down my laptop before I went to bed each night and this seems to resolve the issue for the most part. Flash forward to this morning, and when I boot up my laptop for the first time I found the same issue (windows taskbar not responding, browser not loading, can't really load other programs either) and I'm left with the usual nuclear option of holding down the power button until the laptop turns off. I tried booting up 2 more times - still the same issue. I don't even know how to begin diagnosing this... I'm fairly sure it's not a virus since I haven't really been doing anything risque online and I have two antiviruses active on that computer (Microsoft Security Essentials and another one I c... Answer:E425 Edge: issues with windows taskbar freezing, browser not working, general slowness

Hi, Larryant

Have you tried booting the system in Safe Mode? If you haven't, I would recommend trying that to see if we can narrow down the list of possible issues. To boot into Safe Mode, start your computer by turning it on. During the splash screen where it says "Lenovo" tap F8 repeatedly until a menu with a list of options pops up. Select Safe Mode and hit  Enter. See if your machine behaves any better while in safe mode.

Let me know the results, and good luck

Adam

Trying out the new Edge browser in Win10. Stripped everything so that it doesn't use bandwidth just to get loaded and started placing my favorite sites on the Favorites Bar and creating Favorite Folders on the bar. But there doesn't seem to be anyway to remove a URL or site from a folder and place in back on the bar without deleting the entire folder and reloading each site and placing it back into a new folder. I'm used to the ease of editing from using the Opera browser, but thought I'd give MS another chance. MS couldn't have left editing in such a primitive state, could they?

So I decided to give Edge another try, and seeing that I am still unable to directly import my favorites from Firefox I went around it by exporting them to a HTML file, importing them into IE and then into Edge.

Well only half of them ended up appearing in edge and I now have a ton of empty folders...so I would like to delete them all and start again but I cant find a way to completely remove them all.

Anyone know a work around?

Thanks

I use edge to manage saved passwords for web forums and sites that I am ok with lower security and wondering if there is a way to permanently delete a saved password. Because I use Edge on both my phone and PC, I suspect that it keeps syncing old passwords that I have previously deleted. No matter what, I can't seem to get rid of saved passwords, they always seem to return at a later date.

I somehow managed to get an infection of DNS Unlocker on my laptop. Using various products (Malware bytes McAfee etc) I have managed to eradicate it from most places (Firefox now clean etc.) but it is still, obstinately and persistently present in the Windows 10 Edge browser. Every time I try to use Edge, after a few minutes I get unwanted windows opening, a message in the bottom left saying adverts will start in 5 seconds (it's always 5 seconds and never goes down) and annoying popups obscuring the website I actually wanted to look at.

Any ideas how to get rid of these unwanted intrusions from Edge?

Keith

PS. I wonder if the morons who write this stuff realise that adverts forced in front of a user who didn't ask for them aren't going to have him saying "oh yes, that's a good idea, I'll get that product". They're more likely to make him say "I am going to boycott forever any organisation or service that uses such obnoxious methods."

Answer:Remove DNS Unlocker from Edge browser

Hi Writerman,

It sounds like you might still be infected. However, I'm not sure that 'DNS Unlocker' will be detected by your McAfee or not, as I think that DNS Unlocker is more of an Adaware or spyware type of a bug, rather than a virus per se.

With that said, I would have thought that MalwareBytes would have corrected it, but perhaps not. Have a look at the below links, as they offer some additional information, including using AdwCleaner.

There's also another free one called Super AntiSpyware, that's good to have around as well, which might also work, however ADWCleaner was specifically mentioned.

I use my Favorites Bar in IE11 to hold a boatload full of links. I think it is easier to click on the >> and go to a new link than clicking on the Star to go to a new link.

I decided to use the Favorites bar in EDGE but I forgot that you cannot reorder the entries to put what I consider my most used favorites at the front of the Favorites bar. So I thought I would delete the Favorites Bar folder from my Favorites and create a new one from scratch with my most used favorites. I followed the links to get to the Favorites but the Favorites Bar folder is not there! Does anyone know where it went? Can I delete it if I find it or at least delete all but the entries I want? Or if those options are not available, does anyone have any idea how I can delete all of the entries in my Favorites bar without having to do them one at a time?

Thanks,
Z

Answer:Remove all Favorites Bar entries in EDGE

Hello Z,

The favorites bar links for Microsoft Edge are stored in the Links folder below. Deleting everything in this folder will remove all of them.

Like most people I wanted the old-fashioned Start button back.
So, upon searching I found Start8 which I installed. I might have messed around after installing Start8, a few buttons appear in my taskbar. ( see screenshot.)
Start8 is not what I wanted. I uninstalled it and installed ViStart which I am now using.

Problem, I cannot find a way to remove those buttons in the taskbar. Right click does noting.
Help please.

Right click on the start (orb) button should give you some options.

I don't use viStart right now, but when I did (I didn't had any buttons in taskbar), I saw some options.

Also if you click start and right of shut down button there are some extra options besides sleep and restart. Look there if nothing else works.
PS: you can also try Classic Shell which has some extra options and no buttons in taskbar by default.
Welcome to Classic Shell

Is there a windows 7 registry edit to remove it? I am sick of this issue and have yet to find a resolution (trust me I didn't my research).

If you have a custom explorer program you could just kill explorer.exe... Then again, maybe not

One way to do it is the method Kiosks use for locking people out of normal Windows functions. You'll need a shell program that either modifies or replaces explorer.exe so that the taskbar doesn't function. Hopefully you can find one that still lets you use the explorer windows. Otherwise you'll need a replacement for that as well.

I have a few programs such as Wordpad and XnView that I like to keep in the left & right corners of my screen, from time to time. The problem is that on Windows 10 no matter how many times I move these programs to the edges of my screen and close them when they're positioned where I want them, the next time I open them Windows 10 adds some sort of 7px "padding" and resizes them so that they aren't touching the left/right/bottom of my screen. Quite honestly, this is infuriating.

Since recently acquiring my new(er) computer I have had a "safely remove hardware" icon in the task tray that I cannot remove or get to operate successfully.

I have attached screen capture shots of the windows that appear when I attempt to remove this "hardware" and the icon. The upshot of the problem is that whenever I've attempted to "stop" the hardware I always get a message saying, "The ****device cannot be stopped now. Try stopping the device again later. The device, which you can see in the attached screen shots, is described as "generic volume", with what appears to be some form of identification number.

If anyone can tell me what this little rascal is and/or how I can remove it and the icon from the taskbar I'd appreciate it.

P.S. - I've newly learned that this "device" with it's icon in the system tray is the hard drive (by comparing the associated ID # indicated in the "properties" window with the hard drive # in the device manager window). I certainly don't want to remove the hard drive, but does anyone know why an icon for this device would appear in the taskbar, or know how to remove the icon only?

Somehow I accidentally dragged (drug?) a folder onto the XP task bar and now I can't get rid of it. The only option I find is to delete the folder entirely.

Answer:Remove a folder from XP taskbar

As you have your taskbar unlocked, you can just drag ( left click on the folder and drag out to desktop ) the folder back out, it will result in a window opening on your desktop but you can just delete this as its a shortcut to th emain folder you dragged onto the taskbar.

Yo may also see a Toolbar close warning.. just click ok to that.

OR

Right Click the toolbar and choose Toolbars > then click to untick the folders name and it will go from the list and taskbar.

But to be on the safe side, find the original folder and rename it with an extra letter or number before doing the above, I have done the same as you and the methods above work ok with no lost folders for me.

There is no way to remove it - no possibility to drag it away from there, right click gives you only the same options as right clicking RB on Desktop /Open; Empty; Pin to Start; Create shrotcut; Properties (bin only)/. It is not visible as toolbar so I cannot disable it that way either. Attaching screenshot.
Does anyone have an idea how to deal with it?

I am using Win8.1 Enterprize x64

Best regards,
Jarek

Answer:Can't Remove Virusbursters From Taskbar

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

The report can also be found at ... Read more

Hello, I'm looking for a way to either resize or remove the icons from the taskbar, here is a screenshot just to be clear:

(red box around them)

The reason I want to resize or remove them is because I've got my taskbar set very small (as you can see in the picture) and the icons are too big to fit properly on the taskbar.

I've tried fooling around in the WindowMetrics registry key, but I couldn't find anything useful.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Thank you.

i have an icon on my taskbar for the program Steam on my taskbar that cannot be removed.

what happened was i changed the name of the one of the program's parent folders, and now when i right click on in, no menu pops up, and i can't drag down to get any menu...

i attempted to fix this by changing the parent folder's name back to it's original, but to no avail.

The quickest way IMO to fix this is do a system restore to a point before you made the above change..

Hello everyone =)
I'd like to completely remove all tasks (buttons/icons) from taskbar...I've already got rid of tray crap and got those tiny icons instead of buttons
but is there any way to get clean taskbar with just start button (clock, language icon) left?

Thanks!

Answer:Remove all tasks from taskbar?

Welcome
For anything on the right near the clock (notification area) just go to search, type notification and then untick what is not wanted.

For anything on the left, just right click and unpin

The combination of your fuzzy screenshot and my eyes makes it impossible for me to see the shots.

The date suddenly appeared on my Windows taskbar, underneath the time. This makes the taskbar two rows "deep," and I'd like to remove the date and return to a shallower taskbar. Thanks

Answer:How do I remove the date from the taskbar?

I have the date below the time but I still have the 'shallower' task bar. If you hover over the top edge of the task bar you will see a double ended arrow pointing up and down, left click when you see this and drag it downward to restore the single height bar (do not go too low or you may hide the bar completely). You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
