Thinkpad X1 Yoga disabling the capacitive windows ...

Question: Thinkpad X1 Yoga disabling the capacitive windows ...

The on-bezel windows button is extremely sensitive. So much so that I often activate it accidentally while using the laptop in tablet mode or writing. Is there any way to temporarily disable the button, at least while I'm using the laptop in tablet mode?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just purchased a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (which was just released today), and I have to say, I am rather disappointed. After finding out there is no active digitizer, I thought I would be able to just use a capacitive stylus to take notes (the type of stylus with a rubber tip at the end). Well, turns out that it is terrible when it comes to detecting input from a capacitive stylus (trust me, I've tried them all). The main issue that I am running into with the capacitive stylus is when it comes to writing, where the screen doesn't recognize the stylus for a split second and will actually seem like it is skipping. Here is a picture to try and show what I am talking about. http://imgur.com/JlWSoUh.jpg     Another issue I just ran into is I am having a very hard time trying to wake it from sleep, where I try to open up the screen but all it is displaying is black. I usually have to close the laptop, wait for a minute or so, then open it up again. Very annoying.     There is also noticeable lag when scrolling using 2 finger scrolling. It's nothing compared to the Macbook lineup, where touchpad scrolling seems to be flawless.

I'm using a Lenovo Yoga Thinkpad 11e 3rd gen running windows 10, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to disable the touchpad. I've tried going into the mouse settings, but the 'thinkpad' tab does not have an option for disabling the touchpad entirely, only various customization options. I can't uninstall the drivers, as the option is greyed out, and I can't even disable it via BIOS, as the option isn't present at all. Can anyone help me out?

I am trying to disable UEFI Secure Boot on my Thinkpad Yoga S1 but it keeps getting re-enabled after a reboot. If I set secure boot to disabled I can boot into the non secure OSes installed on the machine imediately afterwards but if the machine is restarted the Secure Boot seting in the BIOS is re-enabled.  It's important for me to have secure boot disabled as I use OSes without secure boot.

I try to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS on the following screen :

Link to image 1

But if I re-enter the BIOS either after booting into an OS or simply re-entering the BIOS, Secure Boot is back on:

Link to image 2

I have also tried to disable "OS Optimzed Defaults" but it also returns to enabled after a restart.

Link to image 3

Some of the other BIOS settings save correctly so I can't figure out why the secure boot settings don't. The BIOS version I have is the latest (1.18).

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? It's inconvenient to manually disable secure boot each time I want to use the laptop. The two operating systems (Ubuntu and Android x86) do work reasonably well once booted.

Thanks!

Answer:Disabling Secure Boot on Thinkpad Yoga S1

I'm having the same issue. I've experienced this with 4 brand new yogas. I will enter bios, disable secure boot, enable legacy pxe and upon reboot the changes are lost. I'm saving changes and exiting.  Resetting user mode options, saving changes and not exiting, those have inconsistently allowed me to keep my changes long enough so i can legacy boot.

My dad got a Thinkpad Yoga 14 about a month ago and he usually uses his laptop at a 90 degree angle in bed. So when he is on his side, the laptop is on it's side as well. When he does that with the Thinkpad Yoga, the touchpad and the keyboard are disabled and he cannot use the laptop like he wants to. I think because it's a setting to not accidentally touch the keyboard or mouse when using it in tablet mode.I cannot find any setting on how to stop Windows from disabling the touchpad and keyboard on rotate. I've turned off auto-rotate but can't see anything else. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Recently I found out that my lenovo yoga 710-15ikb laptop doesnt support digitizer active pen technology. Its hidden in online talks and also frustration when you buy a $70 wacom bamboo ink pen to find that it doesnt work. I understand that most active pens wont work with my computer because the screen (and maybe motherboard) dont have a digitizer. However, I have been looking online and some retailers appear to be selling digitizer lcd screens for my specific model. My question is whether or not these retailers are selling aftermarket screens and if they are will the digitizer work once one is installed? Also, I have a lot of experience doing repair work, mainly with digital cameras and building my desktop, so the task of replacing my laptops screen is not a problem Im just unsure as to whether or not buying a new digitizer lcd screen will work. I dont want to spend money that I dont have to if it turns out that I am just being misled.

Thanks!

Let me know if you need more clarification I'll be around for a while.

Hello, everyone! Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Can anyone recommend a non-Lenovo screen protector for the Yoga 13 that does not reduce capacitance sensitivity? Unfortunately the official protector interferes enough that none of the styluses I've tried work reliably-- lots of skipping and unregistered contacts.I tried using my preferred stylus, a GoSmart Series 200, after removing the official protector, and subsequently scratched my screen. It's definitely not Gorilla Glass! Feels like the top surface might be plastic, actually...

It's a new Thinkpad 13, and Windows Update seems to just straight up not work on it. I've had it about a week, but windows update simply doesn't work how it should.  I enable it when Windows says it's dissabled, then an hour later it's dissabled again.  Similarly, when I try to search for updates it just sits on the "searching" screen, even thought I can confirm that all of the "slow to find updates" fixes are installed.  That's not to mention how USB devices just hang on instalation, because they're trying to get drivers from Windows Update.  Any insight into this would be appreciated! Thanks.

Hello, after upgrading to Windows 8.1, the touchpad on my 11s does not disable when in tablet mode. I remember having this problem in Windows 8 and installing Lenovo Energy Management fixed it. There isn't specifically a Win8.1 version of LEM, so I tried installing the Win8 version. Although it did resolve an unknown driver, it didn't resolve the issue with the trackpad. Is there a solution to this problem? Thanks.

Hi, I just got my new thinkpad yoga 370 that comes with windows 10 preinstalled and I'd like to do a Clean Install of Windows 7. Whoever I'm worried about drivers/comptibility issues, for example that the touch screen doesn't work anymore or that the wacom pen isn't compatible anymore.  Has someone tried to install windows 7 on one of these laptops or do you know if it's possible? If so what precautions should I take? Which drivers will I have to download after the install to make everything work properly? Thank you

I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted. However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:  1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work. I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup. Any help please? Thank you.

Answer:Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

Follow up: After going through windows update and installing windows 7 service pack 1, some of the issues have been resolved. The screen auto rotates based on device orientation. The two finger scroll and zoom works on the touchpad. The physical right click still doesn't work. (The two finger tap for right-click is working). One important feature that I still find mssing is that the two finger pinch to zoom doesn't work on the Touchscreen (it works in Touchpad though). So, when I am browsing websites on Tablet mode, there is no way to zoom in! Thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 14 little issues after windows 10

Hi danielmb007 It took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on the TPY 14 (20DM008UUS). I went into a "driver updating rampage" for it and I have it stabilized right now. This are my tips to update the drivers on my Thinkpad Yoga, but you can decide how deep you want to go for driver updating:1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers. This will be the Lenovo supported drivers, but if you want to look for other update drivers directly from the manufacturer (AS IS) you can try:5) Depending on the machine chipset/processor, you can try Intel Driver Update Utility, or AMD Update Utility.6) I also like to use DriverEasy, which offers a a decent driver update recognition for free, but also tries to sell you the full version. Just be warned that the drivers that are not from the Lenovo support site are "AS IS" and under your own risk, I install them since I'm confortable installing, and un-installing Windows drivers, remember that a wrong driver may turn up Windows un-usable. Regards

I'd like to ask about your experience with updating your 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12 laptops from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I've seen the black screen problem described, that seems to be an issue with the Synaptics driver and hopefully has been fixed with the current latest release of the synaptics driver from the synaptics site.  According to the discussion thread here anyway. But have you encountered any other issues?  Has Windows 10 been a positive upgrade for battery life?  Any tips on steps before upgrading, such as any driver incompatibility and setting up a back-up? My Yoga 12 is the variety with an i5 5300U and a "hybrid" 16GB SSD + 500GB HDD. Thanks!

Greetings: I have a Thinkpad Yoga (Type 20CD, Model 00B1US) that shipped with Windows 8 Pro installed.  I later upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.  I need to reformat as the machine is sluggish at times.   Any suggestions/tips for doing a complete reformat of the hard drive and then a clean install using Windows 10 Pro?  My concern is impacting the BIOS or losing any of the Lenovo drivers for things like the function keys, keyboard light, screen digitizer, etc.  I am assuming simply reinstalling Windows 10 Pro (instead of reformatting and then reinstalling Windows 10 Pro) will not provide the performance boost I am looking for. Thank you in advance for your input.

Ever since I installed windows 10 the throttling on my yoga 15 has been rediculous. If the computer remotly heats up the programs that I am using slow down to a crawl randomly. This is especially evident on steam games and other heavy programs that require the dedicated graphics card. I have tried everything from reinstalling the nvidia drivers, updating the bios, clean installing windows 10, anything. I have not been able to find a solution for this and its getting quite annoying having my fps drop from 90 or 60 yo 5 every few seconds when before I could keep a solid 60+. Sometimes the fan revs up and down as my frame rates goes up and down. Has anyone found a solution for this? Or has Lenovo done released anything?

This button is in both a stupid location and stupid design.

Why would you put a capacitive sesnsing button on the benzel of the screen where people constantly have to touch with their wrist or forearm when using it in tablet mode?

Seriously Lenovo? Even the stupidest people know not to put capacitive buttons near areas where there might be a lot of skin contact.

If Lenovo made guns, they would remove triggers and replace it with capacitive buttons so that people can fire guns accidentally.

Now I have put a sticker over it for the time being to avoid pressing it by accident.

Is there for me to disable the button in Windows 7 or through regedit?

Has anyone else had issues with Thinkpad Yoga 15 orientation not working windows 10?I realize the lenovo support page states it should be in tablet mode in windows 10 and the device itself for the orientation tile to appear, but The windows 10 orientation tile is not even appearing.I know there is a rotation lock button on the side of the laptop, nothing seems to appear when pushing it.I can manually set the orientation through Intel control panel settings and through windows 10 display settings.I've tried in table mode, restarting the laptop in tablet mode, still doesn't work. The SensorService is running in services. Hi Can you check the Windows "Device Manager" and see if by any chance is there a device that is not recognize or does not has the correct drivers? I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and there is a driver that detects if it on laptop or slate mode. When it came to driver I always try:1)"System Update" utility from Lenovo. If you do not have it already installed check it here. 2) The Intel Driver Update Utility,. to update Intel drivers. AMD has his own tool. (Under your own risk) 3) If you have experience installing drivers on Windows. I found it very usefull to use DriverEasy. It offers good enought (freeware) driver recognition of the things installed on your machine. But please notice that installing the wrong driver may screw things up. (Under your own risk) Remember that Intel Driver Update Utility and DriverEasy are not supported by Lenovo, this is only a suggestion to try to get the latest driver for your machine. Regards

I updated to Windows 10 last night on my brand new TPY 14 and afterwards the keyboard, trackpad and trackpoint don't work. In fact, as far as I can tell, only the function key works -- at least, turning on the keyboard backlight (fn-space) does. I've tried updating drivers but it says it's up to date. The Device Manager says the keyboard is working fine but it says that "Thinkpad UltraNav" cannot start (code 10), with this explanation: "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API". Can anyone  give my any suggestions on this? It's pretty frustrating to have the keyboard die less than a day after buying the computer.

So I've had this Yoga 12 for about 3 moths now. In the past month, after I installed a new windows update, the touchpad and trackpoint would not work, like it was disabled. I tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling-- did not work. I even reset the computer. STILL DID NOT WORK. So I ran the driver verifier which told me that the one of Lenovo products had problem with it--I don't remember which one-- so I uninstalled it. Still didn't work. After all that, I tried for the last time to uninstall the synaptics drive. When I uninstalled it... it was still there! I don't know how, but it was still there and now the touchpad and trackpoint both works. Well, sporadically. It will work for a few minutes, then won't work for a few minutes (or more). So.. that's where I am now (actually, right now, as I am writing this, only the trackpoint is working. oop nvm it stopped working). Any thoughts on how to fix this problem? Thanks! Also, when the touchpad & trackpoint works, the windows buttons are more condensed, while when it doesn't work, the buttons are more spread out (see below links). "condensed""spread out" p.s. also, does anybody's computer lag severely when you press the CapsLock button?? Which kind of disables the keyboard for a solid 7 seconds???

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

According to your full model number, I can recommend you first to check the Lenovo support site for your model and update the latest drivers.

But there had been also reports that some trackpads of the Thinkpad Yoga 12 had some issues ( ThinkPad Yoga 12 manufactured prior to October 2015. )
Here it is the link about it, please check it out.

Since I've installed Windows 10 on my ThinkPad Yoga S1 (20C0-S0AX00), I've never been able to get audio via HDMI working. In theory, it looks like it's all fine: ? In practice, however, no audio is transmitted via HDMI (I tried it with different monitors), and the video signal of any application trying to play audio over HDMI is stuttering ? as if it's trying to sync audio and video, but failing for some reason. As soon as the output device is changed, the video plays smoothly again. Changing the "Default Format" did not change anything. Currently, "16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD quality)" is selected. A support ticket I opened quickly after upgrading to Windows 10 promised a driver update to fix this. A more recent ticket advised me to revert to the stock Windows 8.1 installation instead, which I refuse to do. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga S1 - No sound via HDMI on Windows 10

Hi

I have a different Thinkpad Yoga. Checking your issue I wonder if you would like to do some "trial and error" like:

1) Try a different HDMI cable, you never know.
2) Check the driver version of you Intel Display Audio. Here it is mine:
?
3) Just in case check the Lenovo Support site for your model and try updating the Intel Video and Realtek drivers just in case.

This is only that cames to my mind right now.

Hello All, here is a good one:  (Maby a MOD will give this to development to take a look at this, unless someone hasseen this before????....) I have Several Thinkpad Yogas (20CDCTO1WW), After installing Win10 1607 & Microsoft Office (tried 2010 - 2016)All experience the same problem. If you open MS Word (Or Excel) Click insert, then select object, select object type - Microsoft Equation 3.0 & selectok, you cannot select any symbols.  When Clicking any button, it is like the calibration is way off.If you click the title bar to move the equation symbols, the bar moves down and to the left. I have confirmed this is something to do with the Windows 10 1607 & the Yoga.  The previous version of Win 10 itworked properly.  I also tried this on various models of Desktops  & Win 10 1607 and it works properly. I have tried different drivers, versions of Word, BIOS,  external mouse, but it makes no difference,  It has something to do with Win 10 1607 (Build 14393.222) & Yoga or so it seems. Maybe some type of driver issue?, if anyone has any clues I would appreciate it.           Thanks in advance!

Hi, First post, I hope this is the correct spot, this is more Windows10 rather than X1 Yoga specific per se... If I reset Windows 10 from the recovery partition, will this include ALL the software included when I first received the laptop (including any Lenovo add ons)?  In other words, does it reset Windows to *exactly* the way it was when I received it from the factory?  I need the details on how Lenovo sets up the recovery partition. I haven't had the laptop long, and I'm happy to reinstall what little I've done since receiving it (mainly Office 365). (More details:  I'm setting it up to dual boot Windows and Linux.  I want to fix the bootloader partition.  There are other approaches I could use, but am happy to reset Windows as long as Lenovo has set the recovery partition to be identical to factory settings.  I'll create a recovery disk and system backup after I do the reset, so I have additional options in the future.)

The current configuration of my system (as bought) is 4Gb RAM.  According to the specifictions, it is upgradable to 8Gb.  I had a conversation with Sales Support via Chat trying to find the correct part number for 8Gb memory to replace the 4Gb.  I was told that as my system is still under warranty, I would need to contact Technical Support for this to happen.  Having done a number of searches on this forum, would I be right in suspecting that the existing 4Gb is soldered in to place - hence the need for a Warranty call to upgrade.  I was advised that any attempt to make the change myself would void the warranty.Any thoughts please.

Just find an 8GB stick with those specs.

Windows 8.1 OS. The initial power management option in 'Lenovo settings' when I installed the OS provided for an option to 'Automatically optimize for battery life? - which I have just read elsewhere was supposedly removed as it had issues with Windows 8.1 (I could not agreee more) and got it resolved myself through some trial and error and retesting to prove the bug was repeatable for my own peace of mind as to the cause of the error. The only reason I am telling you the above is because you might have got yourself where you are by doing what I did - and that reverting out is not as simple as turning off that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? back to 'Full power'. I assume the 'Lenovo settings' software is dynamically provided over the internet, because that 'Automatically optimize for battery life? power menu option has now (fortunately) gone missing in the past 36 hours. HOWEVER, as I am having numerous OS blue screen of death issues, I reloaded the OS from scratch off the recovery drive to try and stabilise the OS and experienced the exact same issue with the machine not recharging after the OS was reinstalled. My best guess is that they have progammed the same power management bug into the recovery disk. Here is how I got it charging again... 1. Select 'Control Panel' under the Windows desktop (hold down the Windows keyboard ... Read more

I just bought my yoga 12 thinkpad with windows 10 and the mouse has just stopped working/disappears. i have tried messing with the drivers, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Point Device Driver from Synoptics multiple times. Its giving me a code 10 on the driver (I believe meaning it can't talk to the rest of the computer) and everytime I try to update the drivers nothing happens (i think because I just downloaded the driver off the website). Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks,  Patrick

Im trying to do a Clean Install on my Thinkpad Yoga S1, everytime I get an error "windows cannot be installed to this disk" What do I need to do in order to fix this problem?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga Wont Install Windows 7

Is there more to the error message?  Perhaps "...the selected disk is of the gpt partition style"

If so, you're booted in legacy mode but trying to install to a GPT drive.

Re-start the installer, hit SHIFT+F10 to bring up a command window, then type DISKPART.  Once diskpart is running type "list disk" then "select disk xyz" where xyz is your HDD as displayed by list.  Then type "clean".  Then "exit" and close the command window.

That should un-initialize the drive and allow the installer to format it MBR style.

Alternatively you could boot in UEFI mode and install Win 7 on the GPT-formatted drive.

I have a Thinkpad Yoga X1, windows 10, all updates installed. It fires random window key presses while using the computer, very regularly. This causes severe interruption to the use of the laptop. I don't see any phantom touches on the screen, but it does have a tough windows key outside the screen area, and I'm wondering if that does the phantom touches. Any ideas? What should I try?

Hello I bought a Yoga X1 last year and it was working fine until about 3 weeks ago. For unknown reasons - possibly because of some Windows 10 update or because I installed a "nightly built" of the VLC video player the touchscreen stopped working. Windows 10 could not find a driver anymore (claiming that the driver it found is not suitable for this version of windows or womething like that). Same happened with the Lenovo driver for the device from the Lenovo website. I always hat the device marked yellow and "not working properly" in the device manager. I finally found in a forum aomeone pointing to a different driver for the Xoga X1's Wacom device and installed it. Now it shows up in the Device manager without Problems, but I still have no touch functionality. I deinstalled VLC alread and updated Win 10 again - still no luck. do I need some additional driver to connect the device that is recognized in the Device manager with Windows 10 somehow? Or activate it? I booted from a USB rescue stick for Win 10 and there the touch functionality was ok - so its not a hardware issue! Thank you.

run a hdd diagnostic from the Lenovo Diagnostic screen. 1. Restart the laptop, press F12 on restart, this should get you into the Boot menu. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14645916417/in/photostream/2. Then press TAB, this will get you into the App menu, and in that you choose Lenovo diagnostic, using the direction key. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14645828938/in/photostream/3. Choose quick storage device test.https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14852323083/in/photostream/4. then choose the hdd and/or ssd for a quick surface scan to see if it is alright. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14829384881/in/photostream/5. then choose RUN TEST in the option lists. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14645806150/6. If all your hdd tests pass the mustard, then you should get all PASSED for all the test parameters (provided you selected all the test parameters before you started the test). https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14830189744/

When I tried to turn windows defender on in action center nothing happened. No messages or pop ups or anything. After some googling I was able to edit a defender registry file to let me turn it on. When I try to turn it on now the following happens:

Hi, After upgrade to Windows 10 I noticed a major bug in touchpad driver. If you turn on TPY (from complete shutdown or sleep/hibernation), while leptop is tilted to one side, then the touchpad works in right angle to the regular finger movements. The incorrect movement of pointer will not resolve unless you turn on TPY again in a complete horizontal setting. The bug is only seen in Windows 10 and I did not have this bug in Windows 8.1. I'm using the latest driver: Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver Version 19.0.17. 2 Anybody tried this so far?I wish Lenovo solve the issue soon. Thanks,Amir

Hello, I have been having a large amount of trouble with my Thinkpad Yoga in that I have not been able to access the majority of the applications for a while.  I have tried solving the problem, however after a number of failed attempts, I decided I would rather get rid of the bloatware anyway and do a clean re-install. However, I am unable to perform a clean reinstall as no media came with my purchase.  Where can I get a copy of windows 8.1 to perform a clean reinstall?

You don't need to know the key.  It will be picked up during install automatically as long as you're installing the same version that shipped with the machine.  Either Lenovo or Microsoft media will work.

The key is not required during reset, nor is it required when installing from Microsoft media.

Hey guys,

I have an ASUS t300la currently running windows 8.1.

I have a recurring problem with my Capacitive windows logo button, on the bottom of the bezel (not the keyboard or on the screen).

The problem is that it intermittently stops working. No haptic feedback and no response. Sometimes it will start working again if I restart the computer. Additionally, i can press the button during startup and the haptic feedback will occur as much as i press the button (no function though, obviously).

sometimes, even if i restart, it will not work. However if this ends up happening, it would still always give the haptic response during startup, and then would stop working when the log on screen appears.

I have done a lot of research but to no solution

My windows is fully updated as of 9/29/14, and my drivers SAY they are all updated (although i do not always trust the automatic search for driver updates).

since this is very intermittent, i believe it must be software related, so forgive me if you believe this is posted in the wrong section.

Any thoughts or suggestions?? As i have said, i have done lots of searching and tried many options..but i have still not found a problem similar to mine.
PS. I get a consistent Event ID number which I feel may be related. However, sadly, I have not been able to find much info on that either.
The Event ID is #264 and states that "A multi-touch device reported inconsistent contact information."

I am not certain it is related,... Read more

Hi! Just entered the community as i recently bought a lenovo thinkpad S1 yoga. i am very satisfied with it overall, but right now there is one thing that bothers me. It came preinstalled with windows 7. Now, i did get recovery CDs with windows 8, but i do not currently have an external DVD to make use of them. Now, my first thought was that there must be a way of installing windows 8 without the discs, because of the windows 8 sticker at the bottom of the Unit that basically says it has (had) windows 8 at some point, but i havent yet found a solution.Would anyone know how to move on from this point? except from bying the external dvd-reader and use the CDs? cheers

Hi,

When I connect Thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD00B1US) to the onelink dock, the stylus stops working.

In order to enable the stylus and Wacom driver following 2 options/ workarounds:
1)  Manually stop and restart the Wacom ISD Service
2) or reboot the machine while the Onelink dock is attached.

I'm using the latest 7.2.0-4 Wacom driver version, all latest lenovo software installed installed on the machine.

Both above mentioned workarounds are ugly, does anybody have a better suggestion to fix this issue?

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hi! We have a number of ThinkPad Yoga 11e, most of them are about 1.5 years old and we're currently updating their Windows 10 image and BIOS. Imaging process completes fine, but updating the BIOS has caused us a lot of issues. When updating BIOS from within Windows with the latest BIOS Update Utility (1.26) from Lenovo's website the laptops crash with a blue screen of death (BSOD). We then tried all previous BIOS versions (from 1.10 and up), but they all crashed too. The current BIOS version on the laptops is 1.10, but even that failed. We initially ran the installer from our network drive with the installer file renamed for easier identification. We have since tried renaming the installer file back to the original name and running it locally. Have also tried running it only with wireless enabled, running only with Ethernet enabled. At one point we thought there might have been another installation process running in the background (drivers, Windows Update), so made sure that had all completed. The BIOS upgrade still crashed the laptop. We have been unable to pinpoint any of the above scenarios to be the culprit, as now some of them work randomly. Two machines side by side, one will work and the other one will fail. We're pulling our hair out with this one. Has anyone else had this experience and have you found what steps need to be taken to successfully complete the BIOS upgrade every time?

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga 11e - BSOD when updating BIOS from Windows

Does Windows create an DMP (or MDMP) file after the BSOD?
If so, can you zip it up and put it on dropbox/onedrive/etc so I can take a look?
I have heard of a similar issue previously (on a different system) and it was caused by AV/security software.

Hi everyone. My Thinkpad (Yoga 12.5, WINDOWS 10) screen acting strangely. It works, then touch function stops. It starts working again when I do enable/disable HID touchscreen in device manager. Works sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes an hour or more, then stops again. Power saving option is OFF on this device. Drivers are all updated to the latest through Lenovo driver update process.Since it is partially fixed by driver enable / disable function, I suspect it is software and not hardware issue, however can not pinpoint it. Other clues to solve this mistery: 1)It is plugged in (not on battery) 2) HID-compliant touch screen driver is Microsoft version (10.0.16299.15) Driver date 6/21/2006 (Maybe old?) I hope somebody can help.Thank you.

How did you upgrade to Windows 10? Did you do a clean install or keep your old programs and files? Sounds like you will need to do a clean install preferably from a USB drive using Microsoft's tool and then individually re-install the Lenovo apps from the Lenovo support page for Thinkpad Yoga 14. While I'm still having some issues myself, the clean install did get the boot up times and general performance back up to normal.  http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/windows-10-clean-install-using-media-creation-tool#slide-0-field_...

Hey. I have a Yoga 15 ThinkPad Notebook and have been having an issue. The issue occurs randomly through use (even during boot and safe mode). The laptop will vibrate and the system will act as if the windows key has been pressed. Pressing the windows key itself or touching the screen does not cause the vibrate function to occur so I'm not sure where this is coming from? If I'm using TeamViewer to view another PC from the Yoga 15, the remote terminal reacts similarly; acting as if the windows key has been pressed (at random intervals, sometimes not for 10-20 minutes, other times 3+ successively in a short period. Because it even occurs during boot without the OS being loaded I imagine it is a hardware issue, is there a particular peripheral that would cause the vibrate and windows key hit that I could disable? Previously on Windows 8.1 and now Windows 10, this issue has persisted through both operating systems. Any advice would be nice. Thanks    ----------Edit:Moments after posting I realized that there is a windows logo on the screen panel bezel and if I touch that the laptop vibrates. Hi

Have you also tried to check con "Control Panel - Sound" ? On the "Playback" tab you can see all the "sound output" device, included the HDMI to see which one is working. You can also right click it and select "test". If the HDMI output sound does not show there, it may be a drivers issue.

I always try to keep the drivers updated against the Lenovo support site for my model. I try to update drivers on this order.
1) Use Windows Update
2) Use Lenovo System Update
3) Install Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings
4) Sometimes this tools miss to install some updated drivers, so I also try the Support site.

I hope this can give you some hints.

Hello, I am looking for a laptop which can be securely attached/locked (so that I can let it during the night in the office). Could you please tell me if the following laptops have a security slot (Kensington or similar) to attach it somewhere?THINKPAD X1 CARBON (5TH GEN)THINKPAD X1 YOGA (2ND GEN) I do not find it described in the specifications, but from the available pictures, it seems that they have some kind of security slot. Thanks!

Before WP 8.1 you could disable button lights by activating power saving mode. After WP 8.1 power saving does not disable the lights , which are very annoying when reading a book or watching a video in dark. How to disable button lights in WP 8.1 in Lumia 920?

Answer:How to turn off lights off in capacitive Windows buttons after WP 8.1 update?

Are you sure? Battery Saver always turned off the lights on my 920, regardless of update. (8.0 Update 3, 8.1, etc.)

Hello, A shallow search turns up many results of people making claims of the "functionality" of capacitive styli, including a variety of generic, the Wacom Bamboo (?) and the Adonit Jot series. After watching a video on the Adonit Jot Script on an IPad, I grabbed one from Amazon, and was sorely disappointed.  Does it "work?"  Yes.  I can interact with the screen with the stylus, but without palm rejection, it's truly useless as a writing tool. So, at the risk of sounding redundant, does anyone know of a capacitive stylus that works with Windows 8 specifically the Twist hardware that also has palm rejection?  Thanks, Matt

Unsure why I can't edit my post.I spent some time researching the digitizer/touchscreen and figured out that it is made by a company called Atmel (looked up the PCI Vendor ID/VID from the HID-Compliant touchscreen in devmgmt.msc). It is of the maXTouch series, although I can't determine which class (I couldn't find the Product ID/PID).I did, however, figure out that Atmel makes a stylus that's compatible with a few classes of their digitizers called the maXStylus. Searching around on electronics suppliers, I learned quickly that, although being sold at the "low low price" of ~$5USD at several sites, that the minimum order is 6000, and requires a direct manufacturer order.I then wrote an email to the customer service people at Atmel. It's clear that they may or may not entertain my request for info, being that they are an B2B electronics manufacturer, not an B2C/end user vendor. In effort to find the stylus, I came across the fact that it is used in a few HP laptops (as well as a few others). The good news? Here's a youtube video of an "unboxing": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkSuBY35-1YHere's two HP links to the same exact model (one is a "smart buy" which basically means nothing for the part itself):HP Executive Tablet Gen2 Pen: http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/10754734/mfg_partno/F3G73AAHP Executive Tablet Gen2 Pen SmartBuy (~$10USD cheaper): http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product/sku/10754735/mfg_partno/F3G73UTThe bad news? I just bought a Yoga S1 20CD-00E4FR win7 is the default OS and the recovery partition contain windows 7. There were 4 DVDs in the package for windows 8.1. I tried to boot with an external DVD and it works, but after I choose the language and agree terms there is a window with the title Product Recovery and the message is Recovery failed I tried to copy the DVD (with another DVD drive to be sure) on a bootable usb key and the same problem happens. I wonder if they give me wrong DVDs, or if the first DVD is corrupted, or if it comes from my new laptop hardware ? Is there another option to install windows 8.1 ? Additionnal informations : They have numbers so you follow an order, the number 1 is windows 8.1 recovery media for windows 8.1 products (which is weird because my default OS is win7) the number 1 contain 2DVDs with the same title and you can read Disk 1 of 2 and Disk 2 of 2 on them.Number 2 is Operatin System Recovery Disc Windows 8.1 Pro (OEM activation 3.0 required)Number 3 is windows 8.1 recovery media for windows 8.1 productsI tried to boot on another DVD but it only boot with the first one (disk 1 of 2 only).I can clearly read on my seller's website Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 bits installed + Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits licence So I guess I am supposed to be able to install windows 8.1 without troubles.

Answer:windows 8.1 install on my windows 7 thinkpad yoga S1 impossible

Does the surface of the DVD look damaged? Maybe try a surface test on the media?https://www.raymond.cc/blog/test-cd-or-dvd-readability-by-running-surface-scan-and-file-test/

Hi, I am new to this site and wondering if I can get some advice. I just purchased the 20DM009Gus (thinkpad yoga 14) from this site when it was on sale the other day, however I was just given an offer for the 20DK0023us (thinkpad yoga 12) which was the size I originally wanted, for the same price. I know each have their pros and cons, but I am wondering if anyone has first hand advice with either or both devices to help me decide which I really should choose? Thanks!

Answer:A Decision Between Thinkpad Yoga 12 and Thinkpad Yoga 14, help?!

Hi chiakri.

I have a TPY 14 (20DM008UUS) and I'm happy with this model. I didn't not compare it to the TPY 12, but mine is working fine and have no issues. It didn't came with a pen, but it supports "Active pen", so I bought a Thinkpad Pen Pro and it worked fine.

I prefer to stick with the 14" screen but that is more about personal prefence. Maybe if you like to use it very much on tablet mode with a pen, possible the 12" will be more confortable to hold as a book.. but I'm just guessing.
Regards

I am hhaving difficulty finding an acceptable scaling mix between resolution, system scaling, and edge scaling. At 1080p, 125%, 125%, os navigation is mostly fine, but edge text is way too large. At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.

Hey guys, I'm a PreMed student who's life revolves around his laptop. I'm always on social media, watching some show, listening to music, doing an essay, taking notes, updating some website, or emailing some person on campus. Of course, my old laptop broke. It was a Dell Inspiron. Now, I have a campus job and have been saving money(so money is not factor necessarily). After researching my options, I've narrowed my choices down to the three previously listed laptops. I just want to know which do you guys suggest and why?

Answer:Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga 900 vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga

By looking at your requirement, you prefer on-the-go PC that lets you do all that on a decent budget, SP4 is better than SB(if you want lightweight device and decent battery life), Lenovo's are pretty good too. X1 w/o OLED seems to be a better buy in terms of ultraportability and battery life. You could wait for others to chime in.

I just bought the Yoga 910-131kb, and I am having problems with the keyboard not disabling when I rotate the screen to tablet mode.  Also, the rotation lock just turns on and off constantly when I have the screen rotated fully around.  I do not know if something is not calibrated properly, and the computer does not know that it is in tablet mode.  If anyone has any idea what is going on, please help!

Answer:Disabling keyboard on Yoga 910

Hi there, Issacja -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

I'm afraid it's not by design, and something has got messed up. The keyboard and trackpad should be disabled once the Yoga is folded more than 180°.

These 2 apps must be installed: (Please go to Lenovo official support websiteto download.)

    1) OneKey Optimizer (on previous machines, Energy Manager).
    2) Lenovo Harmony for Windows (on previous machines, Lenovo Transition).

From the Windows Store install the following 2 apps:
    1) Lenovo Companion.
    2) Lenovo Settings.

While browsing the 2 apps you will be asked to update the drivers: accept and install.

    1) Lenovo Dependency Package and Lenovo Settings Dependency Package.

Reboot the computer and make sure the service ?ymc.exe? is running.

    1) When finishing reboot, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to open Task Manager
    2) Click on Services tab, ensure "ymc.exe" is running

Recommend NOT to uninstall Lenovo Harmony (on previous machines, Lenovo Transition).

Update us how it goes.

The Thinkpad sticker with the red light above the 'i' doesn't turn on unless the screen turns to tablet mode. Is there any way for the light to stay on all the times? The one near the keyboard does work, the issue is with the light on the outside lid.

I normally have a C:/, H:/, J:/, N:/, X:/, and Y:/ drive, but in a mysterious phenomenon I have lost all of those. I have work to save on those drives, and they are inaccessible. I have attempted to go to Disk Management, but I am denied "access rights," presumably as I am not a licensed IT guy. If there is anything that can be done, I need it done.

Answer:Missing Network Locations--Windows 8.1, Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga

You needn't be a licensed (or even unlicensed) IT guy to use Disk Management, but I am guessing that you are using a work computer that is probably in a domain and you will need to get help from your IT department.

Answer:Thinkpad S1 Yoga screen rotation issues after windows 10 upgrade

Hi sumitgoyal3832
Welcome to the forums. Can you please post the full model number of you Thinkpad S1 Yoga?

I have a different Yoga Machine, but when I upgraded to Windows 10 it took me some work updating the drivers to stabilize it. Maybe you can try to updating the driver.

I try that in this order:
1) Windows Update - Check for any update there
2) Use Lenovo System Update to see if it find any BIOS or Driver update
3) Install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows Store.
4) Sometimes some newer drivers does not show on System Update or on Lenovo Companion. Check also the "Lenovo Support Site" with you full model number and check for any driver... you can sort driver by date.

But maybe your computer is a older one and does not have Windows 10 drivers on the Lenovo Site.
In that case I also use "DriverEasy" but that is un-support from Lenovo and AS IS under your own risk. But in my case that tool helped me out a lot to find newer drivers on my machine.
I hope this tips can you some help.

Regards

I have a Thinkpad Yoga with Windows 8.1 Pro. As I have understood factory reset is only possible through Windows Update and Recovery? Will this option still work after I do a clean install of Windows 8.1? Thanks for replies!  /henrikh
