I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

I'm not an owner of your model, but User Guide for the Yoga 460 explains how to remove the SIM card starting on page #118. Here is a link to that User Guide for your reference.....

I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14 with a EM7455 WWAN broadband card in the M.2 slot.  I can not for sure locate the SIM card slot so I can put in broadband provider sim (like one from T-Mobile or AT&T).  Documentation shows it on the back opposite the fans with a pin hole to pop out a SIM tray.  There is no slot on back of the case. I took the cover off the botton of the Yoga 14, which is where the M.2 slot is located.  At the back about where there should be a SIM card tray, there is a 8 contact SIM socket labeled SIM1 on the motherboard.  I am assuming this the cellular SIM card socket, but it will not take a micro-sim card.  It is to loose to hold it.  It looks like it needs a sim tray.Anyone have any experience with a ThinkPad Yoga 14 sim card or have a suggestion?  Photos of motherboard and sim slot below.    Thank you, Gerry          ??                                                                                          &... Hello, I am looking for a laptop which can be securely attached/locked (so that I can let it during the night in the office). Could you please tell me if the following laptops have a security slot (Kensington or similar) to attach it somewhere?THINKPAD X1 CARBON (5TH GEN)THINKPAD X1 YOGA (2ND GEN) I do not find it described in the specifications, but from the available pictures, it seems that they have some kind of security slot. Thanks!

Hi, I've got a Thinkpad Yoga with the built in 128gb SSD, and have been thinking about upgrading the storage. As it came with the 128gb SSD from the factory, I'm assuming the M2 slot will be free... Does anyone know what the specifications of the M2 slot are, or if it is usable for a non-caching drive? I'd love to put in a 512gb M2 SSD for my additional storage needs - it would just complete what I see as an otherwise perfect device. Obviously if this is not possible, I will simply replace and clone the existing SSD, but if I can avoid that it'd be ideal. Thanks!

Hi all, I've just taken ownership of the ThinkPad Yoga 370 and suspect that the Micro SD slot is faulty.  Basically, the card gets sticker into the slot once pushed in and it'll take a long time to slowly pull out the card from the slot. Also, the notebook doesn't detect the card when it's in.  Im pretty sure I got the right side of the card into the slot.  Can anyone confirm if the slot is suppose to eject the card with a "spring" motion? Cause I don't have that, that's why it's sticker.

I am waiting for my new Yoga 900. I read the so-called "full" SD Card slot is not 32mm deep as a standard SD Card. Can you confirm it is shorter? Is it 16mm deep like in the Yoga 2? Is there an adaptor for 128GB micro-SD that has the perfect size and been tried?

Answer:Yoga 900 SD Card slot

A standard SD card goes in only to 16mm, not the full 32mm depth.

How deep is the sd card slot in mm?  Im looking for possible storage expansion options prior to purchasing.

Answer:Yoga 3 11 SD card slot depth.

hi BradB111,

Welcome to the Forums.

From this specifications page, the Yoga 3 11 can take a 4-in-1 card reader (SD, MMC, SDXC, SDHC).

These SD cards have the following dimentions:
SD / SDXC / SDHC - 32.0×24.0×2.1 mm (1.260×0.945×0.083 in)
MMC - 32 × 24 × 1.4 mm

From the info above, the SD card slot likely have an additional 1mm in its dimension (33mm L x 25mm W x 3.1mm H).

Hi all,  I'm contemplating making a MAJOR lifestyle change and converting from Mac to Windows and am seriously considering buying a yoga machine, but, I'm a little un certain about what model would be the right fit .  Right now I'm using a newer model Retina MacBook Pro and have most of my files backed up to a minidrive card that sits flush in the SD card slot of my laptop. I'm hoping that I will be able to take this out and plug it into a new Yoga so that it maintains a flush fit and dosen't stick out at all. HAving said that I was wondering if anyone in the community could help me out and offer an estimate or exact measurement onthe depth of thier  SD ports. I'm thinking about getting a Yoga 2 or 3 Pro but any input is greatly appreciated.   Thanks!!

Hello: First time on the Forum. Edge E220s running Windows 7 Professional. A few weeks ago, the multi-media card slot just stopped being recognized by Windows 7. I insert a card in and - nothing. No light, no whirrs, no clicks, nothing. I have tried several SD cards, all of which worked previously and which still work fine in my camera. They also work when inserted in a stand-alone USB-connected card reader., so the cards themselves don't seem to be the issue. Control Panel/Device Manager shows no yellow exclamation points, It's as if it was just no longer physically connected. I did have an attempt at a battery replacement done at a reputable local shop recently, but don't think the lack of functionality coincided with that repair. I say 'attempt' at battery replacement because there seem to be TWO batteries for this model, and the only one I could find locally (Toronto ) was the wrong one - rectangular, rather than square-ish.  I hope the one coming from China is the right one.  I digress.... Any clues as to where my SD card slot went? Oh yes - the BIOS update (hujj05ww.exe) mentioned in another post, which I thought might fix the SD card slot issue? Error message - "This process does not recognize this system." Thank you in advance for any assistance! Jim

Answer:ThinkPad Edge E220s multi-media card slot not recognized in Windows 7

Just asking the question seems to have provided the answer. Just for fun I tried it again and now it works! I swear it didn't before. Still wondering about the BIOS update, and why there could be two totally physically-different batteries for what appears to be exactly the same model number of computer! Cheers, Jimjimkenzie wrote:Hello: First time on the Forum. Answer:Can I add a new graphics card to the Thinkpad Yoga 12?

Good day and welcome to the community.

There's no way to upgrade the graphics in your machine, as it's circuitry is integrated in the CPU chipset package. In addition, the nVidia graphics in your other Lenovo laptop, while a discrete GPU, is also soldered to the system board. As such, it's non-removable.

Hope this helps to clarify.

Hello, I got a Yoga S1 and running a partition programme I can see that it's got these 2 entries:* 465.76 GB, Basic GPT - with partitions: System_Drv, Windows, Lenovo_Recovery* 14.91  GB, Basic GPT - with the complete space used. I guess this 14.91 refers to the M2 SSD card, but I was wondering, what is taking that space? ie, the OS and all the data and storage is in the other HDD, so what could be taking all the space? And thinking about its purpose, if I buy a 128 GB M2 SSD card and replace the existing one, how would this space be used? ie, what's the difference that I could notice as at the moment I am not able to even access that M2 drive from my windows, so not sure what could be the benefit if I put something bigger there? Many thanks!!

Hello, I have just gotten a T61P with a Smart Card Slot.  Is it possible to replace this with an Express Card Slot? I have looked at the parts lists and can see no differences in Motherboard or Bottom Case part numbers for a 6457-8LU ( which I have, and has a Smart Card Slot ) and a 6457-8Jx ( which has an Express Card Slot ). Looking at the FRU Manual, it looks like an involved process to get to the Card Slot, but I think I could handle it.  ( Electronics Tech for more years than I like to think about  :-)  ) Any input would be appreciated! Regards Michael

Greetings all. I've been having connectivity issues with my Thinkpad Yoga 11e. I'd be online and then network dropped in the next instance and the computer was having problems reconnecting to the wifi signal. I'd say it's an internet issue except no other device in the home (iPhones, iPad, Kindle, HP work laptop) don't experience this problem.  To combat this, I opened my machine up, saw I had an Intel 7260NGW, went to Amazon and purchased the same model. I'm not looking for an upgrade, I'm looking for fewer dropped connections.  Fast forward to this evening and I get the "1802: Unauthorized Network Card is plugged in - power off and remove the network card (8086 / 0881 / 8086 / C070)". How do I have compatibility issues if I bought the same model card? And what card can I get to replace the one I have if not the same model?  Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me!

Hey all,

I bought a TPY from Newegg, which shipped with the Intel Wireless-N 7260. The laptop finds and connects to my home network fine, but can't find my work WiFi network at all. I've tried a few different drivers to no avail. Would buying and installing the dual band version of this card, or getting the Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 make a difference?

And if so, can someone double check that this is the right part? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106190

I know there's a whitelist in the BIOS, but I assume that if other models ship with the AC card then I can swap it in.

The model type number is 20CD-0033US S/N **********

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Manually upgrading Thinkpad Yoga WiFi card

Hello and welcome,

The whitelist requires the correct model and a Lenovo FRU number.  That NewEgg card looks to be generic Intel and won't pass the whitelist.

The  FRU's are available in the TP Yoga part list:  http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/yoga_fru_bom_20131107.pdf

I'm having a hard time figuring out which one is dual-band.  Hopefully someone else here on the boards can provide info.  Price and availability is going to be an issue

Before you go down that road, have you verified that your work wifi is 5GHz-only, and that there isn't some other problem?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 11e - 1802 Unauthorized Network Card error

Hi,

Historically, this may be the most common question here on the forums.

In order to pass the BIOS whitelist a card must be a listed model AND have a listed Lenovo FRU number.  As you've discovered, a "generic"  7260 won't pass.

The card models and FRUs are shown in the laptop's system service parts list.  There are several different Yoga 11e machine types so I can't link a specific partst list.  You'll find them here:

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 15 Graphic Card issue (geforce 840m)

Hi GijsDros, welcome to the forums.

Just in case have you tried to update the NVidia Geforce drivers in Windows 10? Maybe it can work out.

To update drivers on a Thinkpad I always recommend:
1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers.

There is this NVidia Driver on the support site of you model:
NVIDIA Optimus Display Driverver. 10.18.13.5435 / 20.19.15.4312 from 17/12/2015

But updating with driver with the one on the NVidia site does not gives me any conflic, so if you still have issues with that driver, you may try the NVidia page.

Let's hope this can help you.

Regards

I wouldn't gamble on a successful ending. Wait to replace it after your exams. Upgrade your warranty if necessary to make it last longer. Because it will be an expensive upgrade.

I have eagerly been awaiting availablility of the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga P40 since it was announced in December 2015. However the options shown in the Lenovo online shop, in recent Lenovo product specs, and what was announced do not match. Specifically: The 4G LTE options is not shown in the shop but is shown in the December and February specs. The December specs are still live on the ThinkStation site. The smart card reader is shown in the December specs and news articles, but not in the shop or February specs.Nowhere is there mention of the display's color gamut. It is part of the P line, that is aimed at professionals and includes Nvidia Quadro graphics. One review puts it at 69% of sRGB. Is it really that bad?Anyone know if this is just that the model is new and options will appear later, or if features were pulled? The online sales chat staff had no information other than what the shop shows. I've been holding out for such a laptop because I need a tradition keyboard for the office, where smart cards are required. I shoot photography outside the office and would love to edit my photos on a tablet immediately after events when I might stop at a bar and when on the train headed home. Being able to work from almost anywere requires both WiFi and LTE. The 4-in-one reader appears intact, so I can pull the card out of my camera and slide it into the laptop. With Quadro graphics, I should be able to use it with my 30-bit display at home for photo edit... Read more

Does it matter which PCI-E X16 slot you use? My board has 2 full X16 slots and I want to run my GTX590 lower down in the case to move it away from my soundcard.

Here's my board

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3449&dl=1#sp

Also does anyone have any experience running sound cards ect. in full size PCI-E X16 slots? they obviously don't engage the clips on the socket but do they still work?

I've never had reason to try either of these configurations and my computer is in pieces ATM while I'm upgrading it so I have no way to test for any problems but everything I've read on the subject so far says there shouldn't be any problems with either of afore mentioned configurations.

Thanks

Hi
I am confused about what type of adapter should i buy for my expansion slot, on the descriptoin it says that my laptop have PCI card type II : type :express card slot.

So far what i have read is PCI card type II are different from Express card. I just need to know what my machine supports, a 54mm card or 34 mm card, 16 bit or 32 bit, i just don't know, i need to buy an adapter for esata interface to connect my NAS via esata to my laptop for greater speeds.

Can anyone enlighten me on this, please?

Answer:Re: Satellite M60-104 PCI card Slot or Express Card Slot?

Did you take a look into the user manual?
There are all the details about the M60 series.

But as far as I know the M60-104 unit supports the Cardbus 32-Bit/PC-Card 16-Bit slot.
So you could use 1x PCMCIA Type-II only and 1x ExpressCard.

I have a AMD 7870 Dual slot video card on my Asus M5A99X-Evo Motherboard. It is installed in the first 16x slot...and I also have a PCI-e 1x XF-I Titanium Sound card. The problem I am having is that one of the 1x slots is covered by the video card, and the 2nd one is open, but right smack below the Video card. My Video card is the Sapphire 7870 GHz Edition non OC.. Attached is a picture of what I am trying to explain. My other question is: Will this cause issues since one of the GPU fans is semi covered? Its it recommended? Last question: If I move this to one of the 8x slots below on my motherboard, will it cause my 16x PCI-E slot to slow down? Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide.

Computer Specs -

Asus M5A99x-Evo Motherboard (AM3+)
AMD FX 8350 8 Core (4Ghz)
Sapphire AMD Radeon 7870 GHz Edition (2GB)
8GB DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX memory (2x 4GB)
500GB WD Black Edtion SATA HD
1TB WD Black Edtion SATA HD
Sound Blaster XF-I Titanium PCI-E 1x Sound Card
Thremaltake 750 80+ Bronze PS (Smart Series)
DVDRW (SATA)
DVD-ROM (SATA)

Answer:Question about PCI-e slot below dual slot video card

My opinion ...

Yes, setting up like that will have an impact. The air flow to your GPU will be restricted so it will more than likely run hotter than it did. It may still stay withing recommended specs, but it will run hotter.

The motherboard has onboard sound (Realtek® ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC ), any particular reason why you don't use that? Onboard sound is perfectly good for gaming and the like now, its not like older machines where you needed a dedicated card for decent quality. In my opinion, you only need a dedicated card if you are doing a lot of detailed audio work (mixing, remastering and other specific audio work). This would totally remove the issue.

hi there,
i need to know which know which graphic card will fit for my computer. Ie i want to know which type: DDR ,DDR1 or ddr2 i bought my computer in 2007, but thats not enough to tell.
so please let me know how do i know which pci slot i have?

Answer:which graphic card slot do i require for my PCI slot

The type of memory doesn't matter, its the type of interface the computer supports among a few other things to watch for.

You likely have a PCI-Express slot, as long as it a x16 slot it doesn't really matter if its a version 1.1 or 2.0 slot.

Is this for your Dell or another computer? Whats you budget and what needs do you have for the video card?

There's nothing in the bios for assigning PCIE GPU to a slot. (single 4870 1G)

I have 4 PCIE slots (CrossfireX board, ASUS M3A32 MVP Deluxe MoBo, w/ 790FXNB.) I did some case clean up and wire management yesterday and I moved my card to slot 1 instead of 2... Didn't get a display after the POST and OS Boot, so I moved it back to slot 2, un-installed the drivers for the card, then moved it back to slot 1... Same problem.. I'm getting tired of messing with these cards..

No display after POST and OS Boot... CMOS Reset?? I have a PCIE Config in the BIOS, but nothing to assign a primary.

Ideas??

Answer:PCIE card won't recognise in Slot 1, but OK in slot 2.

Hi,

When I connect Thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD00B1US) to the onelink dock, the stylus stops working.

In order to enable the stylus and Wacom driver following 2 options/ workarounds:
1)  Manually stop and restart the Wacom ISD Service
2) or reboot the machine while the Onelink dock is attached.

I'm using the latest 7.2.0-4 Wacom driver version, all latest lenovo software installed installed on the machine.

Both above mentioned workarounds are ugly, does anybody have a better suggestion to fix this issue?

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hi, I am new to this site and wondering if I can get some advice. I just purchased the 20DM009Gus (thinkpad yoga 14) from this site when it was on sale the other day, however I was just given an offer for the 20DK0023us (thinkpad yoga 12) which was the size I originally wanted, for the same price. I know each have their pros and cons, but I am wondering if anyone has first hand advice with either or both devices to help me decide which I really should choose? Thanks!

Answer:A Decision Between Thinkpad Yoga 12 and Thinkpad Yoga 14, help?!

Hi chiakri.

I have a TPY 14 (20DM008UUS) and I'm happy with this model. I didn't not compare it to the TPY 12, but mine is working fine and have no issues. It didn't came with a pen, but it supports "Active pen", so I bought a Thinkpad Pen Pro and it worked fine.

I prefer to stick with the 14" screen but that is more about personal prefence. Maybe if you like to use it very much on tablet mode with a pen, possible the 12" will be more confortable to hold as a book.. but I'm just guessing.

I am hhaving difficulty finding an acceptable scaling mix between resolution, system scaling, and edge scaling. At 1080p, 125%, 125%, os navigation is mostly fine, but edge text is way too large. At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.

Hey guys, I'm a PreMed student who's life revolves around his laptop. I'm always on social media, watching some show, listening to music, doing an essay, taking notes, updating some website, or emailing some person on campus. Of course, my old laptop broke. It was a Dell Inspiron. Now, I have a campus job and have been saving money(so money is not factor necessarily). After researching my options, I've narrowed my choices down to the three previously listed laptops. I just want to know which do you guys suggest and why?

Answer:Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga 900 vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga

By looking at your requirement, you prefer on-the-go PC that lets you do all that on a decent budget, SP4 is better than SB(if you want lightweight device and decent battery life), Lenovo's are pretty good too. X1 w/o OLED seems to be a better buy in terms of ultraportability and battery life. You could wait for others to chime in.

(First of all sorry for my english. Hope you understand me)  I'm looking for a slot-in DVD drive for my Thinkpad T61. I live in Hungary and I've found only two affordable options. Get a Samsung slim slot-in drive or a MacBook's SuperDrive (maybe Panasonic or LG). I still have my guarantee so if I buy one of them; can the service "fit in" to my Thinkpad? I mean, I have to buy a special "only for Thinkpad" DVD drive or one of these also good?

Answer:Slot-in DVD for Thinkpad T61

Well there are over 500 different slim-line and super-slimline DVD drives on the market, some of them with special firmware versions and some of those drives are build as slot-in drive versions. Even most of the sizes (12,7x129x128 mm) and connectors (JAE 50 pin) are to 98% equal, there still some differences and things to take into account. The overall problem with a slot-in DVD drive will be to find a suitable front-panel for a Thinkpad T61: http://www.notebookreview.com/picture.asp?f=22775  As you can see, beside maybe some possible firmware version conflicts, the main common problem for you with a Thinkpad T61 will be, to find a suitable front-panel for a third-party slot-in slim-line drive here! - BTW, I have a Samsung slim-line slot-in drive, which I use as a secondary external USB/Firewire drive when I travel. The front-panel which is supplied with the Samsung slot-in drive will not adhoc fit for a Thinkpad T61!

Hi all, I have a Yoga 2 Pro with Windows 8.1 Pro and the SD card slot is not working.  Reloaded the drivers, tried different SD cards and still can't get it to work.  Nothing shows up in disk management, its like the card slot doesn't exist. Tried a bunch of things with Lenovo tech support, but no solution.  Any ideas before I have to send it back to Lenovo and be down a laptop for 10 days? Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro SD slot not working

Uninstall drivers and instead of installing drivers from the Lenovo website, just reboot windows and let windows handle the installation. See if that helps. Also check device manager to make sure there are no warnings on that specific device. Also check the SD card..make sure it is not in the "Locked" position. The reader would not be able to read it if it is locked.

Question: Yoga 900 lock slot

Hello, Is there a way to lock the Yoga 900 to a desk, for example? Since it does not have a Kensington slot, a traditional lock would not work. Any suggestions on how I can lock the computer? Support suggested using the following products, but I'm not sure if they will fit the hinge on the Yoga 900: http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-TechSafe-Locking-Laptops-GC16046/dp/B004W9BQAS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=... http://www.amazon.com/PNY-ThinkSafe-Laptop-Locking-P-TSUL1-RB/dp/B0093HNUSA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1...

That is a good question. Thanks for posting. I've been wondering about that myself.  I've used a Kensington cable lock for years on my ThinkPads, but haven't been able to with my Yogas. As I sit at my 900, I'm trying to visualize how those would work. Since I'm not a hardware person, I'll ask around, and will post back if I have any info to add. In the meantime perhaps someone who has a lock that fits will reply to help us out here.

The new generation of fast SD cards called USH-II has a second row of contacts.  While much faster download speeds are possible, the hardware and bus must support this standard.  While UHS-I cards can be used, UHS-II cards are potentially much slower in UHS-I slots. Does the Yoga 3 - or any Lenovo laptop - support UHS-II SD cards at this time? If they don't the workaround is to use a USB 3.0 card reader with a UHS-II slot.  The card readers run around $40.  Older card readeer are usually UHS-I.

Answer:Does the Yoga 3 USB slot support UHS-II?

Scroll down to the section labeled "Expansion" or click on the "Expansion" link at the top of the article. Then look at the sub-section labeled 'PC Card'.

.... the answer is Yes. You have a PCMCIA port (2 actually if using Type I or Type II cards; the Firewire card is probably a Type III card, which will fit, but uses the space of 2 slots)

Disclosure:  I received these laptops from Lenovo as part of their advocacy program, so huge thanks to the folks over at Lenovo. I don't receive compensation for my review, and as always, all opinions are my own.

The ThinkPad X1 Yoga is first modern ThinkPad that I've ever owned.  I?ve been using Lenovo?s Ideapad lineup for a very long time, and while I?ve used ThinkPads in the past, the X1 Yoga will be my first personal ThinkPad that I own.  So how does it stack up to the Yoga 910?  Let?s find out! I have the i7 UHD model of the Yoga 910 and the i5 FHD model of the ThinkPad X1 Yoga.  I tried out the latest Yoga 920, but I haven?t tried the latest X1 Yoga yet? hopefully, I will!

Hardware & Design
Even though both laptops carry ?yoga? in their name, the hardware behind them is vastly different.  The ThinkPad X1 Yoga has the classic ThinkPad black design, which is made of a carbon-fiber hybrid for the top cover and a magnesium-PPS hybrid for the bottom cover.  The Yoga 910 has a similar design from the Lenovo?s Yoga lineup, with an aluminum build throughout.

The ThinkPad only comes in two colors: classic black and silver; whereas the Yoga has a whole suite of colors to choose from, such as silver, copper, bronze, and even a few exclusive designs, such as the Vibe designs for the Yoga 920 and the Star Wars themed designs for the Yoga 910.

I've Thinkpad edge 13 n want to use the sim card slot at the back of notebook, how can I use that? n also I see the empty slot near the SODIMM slot, wondering what for that slot? If there must be a hardware to activate, where can I buy? Thanks

Answer:Simcard slot at Thinkpad Egde 13"

The slot you see is most likely for a wwan card.  If you bought your Edge with the wwan option, there would be a wwan card there and a couple of antennas. The sim would then be used for that.  If you didn't get the wwan option, then there are no antennas there and no card.  It would kinda be an involved job to install the antennas to hook to the card which isn't there in order to use the sim slot.

I have the P70 and it has two empty slots for a M.2 PCI-e 2280 SSD. If I install an ssd here, can I use it as the boot drive? Thanks.

Answer:Using M.2 slot as boot drive for Thinkpad P70

Absolutely. Make sure you set the correct BIOS options to properly set the boot order to include the M.2 drive before pre-existing bootable media.

Hi all,Does anyone know if the M.2 PCIe slot in the new 3rd generation X1 Carbon is a full M.2 PCIe slot, or is it USB-only?  This slot is ordinarily used for the Sierra WWAN module (which is a USB device), but I would really like to put an SSD in its place.Thanks-frank

For quite a long time I've been planning to buy the Yoga 720. However, I don't have money to buy anything but the base model. Even though only 8gb of ram doesn't bother me too much at the moment, I would like to upgrade eventually down the line. A sales representative has shown me the PSREF. Through checking there, I seem to find that the only models with an extra slot are the ones that come with 16gb of ram (8gb soldered and an extra slot filled with 8gb stick). Does that mean that the model: 80X7001WUS  has only 8gb soldered in without room for upgradeability?  Thanks for any information.

Answer:Does the yoga 720 have an extra ram slot on the base model?

Hello and welcome,

If you scroll down the page you linked and expand specifications you'll find a link to the base spec.  The way I read it they all have a RAM slot which may or may not be occupied depending on specific MT-M.

That said, I have no personal experience with this model.  This is based on what I read below.

After all problems, imperfections, bugs at "top level" TP X1 C/Y - here is a one more...microSD card slot at back side of notebook is connected to highest speed PCIe card reader controller Realtek RTS5208 that possible can rise top speeds of newest microSDXC up to 200mb/s.But... because it's not USB-controller... IT DOES NOT EXIST AT BIOS BOOT OPTIONS!!!So with this super fast controller users have lost possibility to boot from SD-cards...Fkng stupid lenovo!

Hi guys! I'm new here! I wonder if someone could perhaps help me answer my question?  Thinkpad L420 - Does it have a expresscard 2.0-slot? I know it technically does, but does it work? Can you actually use the 2.0 speed or is there still no update that enables it? Is it still good old 1.0 (2,5Gbit/s) or 2.0 (5Gbit/s)? Thanks in advance from Sweden!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad L420 - Does it have a expresscard 2.0-slot?

L420 has the ExpressCard 2.0 slot like the X220. In the bios there is automatic and 1.0 choice, you can't directly choose the 2.0 option.

I was wondering if meanwhile it is possible to boot (let's say Kubuntu 16.04) from the internal SD slot. Right now I'm using a 32GB Sandisk USB dongle, which works perfectly for me, but there is this unused SD slot.Of course I read some topics throughout the internet and this forum, saying it wasn't possible (4-6 years ago) due to the SD card being connected to PCI-E bus so BIOS/UEFI can't access it. My UEFI-Version is 2.12 R07ET72W (2016-10-28).Notebook-Model is 20FW003MGE.On the SSD I'm using Win7 64 Pro. Is there a way now to boot from the SD card without an external card reader, or do I have to buy an aditional M2.2242 SSD, leaving the SD slot waiting for memory extension issues? Is there a list with supported M.2 SSDs? PS: Grub command ls doesn't recognize the SD card either.

After much avoiding getting a M.2 2242 ssd for the E540, I have finally come to realize that there is a way to fit a M.2 ssd larger than 2242 format!    The E540 has a M.2 key B slot, making it compatible with all the 2280 ssd SATA 6.  These are not the super fast  NVMe & Pci-e 3.0 ssd.  I want to do this, because 2242 does not have alot of choice, especially for anythign larger than 256gb.  The M.2 2280 format on the other hand does have many options. The requirements seem to be a E540 with just the intergrated Intel graphics. My E540 does not have the dedicated internal nvidia GPU graphics card, and has lots of space near the fan like so: I examined that plastic that separates the M.2 Slot from the GPU & fan area and noticed that it can be filed down to fit a M.2 NGFF extender cable & card.  Such as this one:  After I file down the middle plastic material I will run the cable & card towards the GPU area. Doing this will force me to mount the SSD "upside-down" as to respect the M.2 slot cable pin order.  I plan to secure the board to one of the GPU heat sink mounting holes or since it is already upside down, I mount the relocation card to the cover it-self.  For extra SSD cooling I may need to drill some holes in the cover or purchase a E540 heatsink & fan with the GPU cooling pipe to allow for extra cooling. This should work, especially since I have read that the T440s u... Answer:Thinkpad E540 - M.2 slot - Fitting M.2 2280 ssd

It works! To test I have only connected just the cable to the Samsung 850 EVO - 500GB - M.2 2280 SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-N5E500BW). I used the Samsung migration tool to copy the C: partition.Unfortuntely, our M2 port runs at SATA II speed of 3.0 GB/s, not sure if this is BIOS or by design.  Having this SATA II speed issue be a risk is why I chose the Samsung 850 EVO for its RAPID mode via Samsung Magician, which helps reduce this pain. Without the Magician the preliminary un optimised speeds were: Sequential 283 MB/s read / 266 MB/s write. With the Magician turned on the first run speeds are: Sequential 4504 MB/s read / 3914 MB/s write. One downside I noticed is that the 16 pin FFC/FPC AWG VW-1 cable is very sensitive to the position at the connectors. Photos to come soon.

Hello! I just buy X1Y without WWAN-modem, because I don't really need it for now, and try to use empty WWAN M.2 slot for SSD like I did with all my previous Thinkpad's - so I install Transcend TS256GMTS400 that perfectly works at my previous Thinkpad Yoga 12... but SSD does not apper at BIOS! At "BIOS - Boot priority" there are some empty device named "NVMe0" - because of absent of external NVMe ports and present of Samsung SSD as different device at M.2 2280 slot, its possible can be support for NVMe-PCIE SSD at that WWAN-slot... but I can not find any SSD M.2 2242 NVMe at all world...  Also I dont find any WWAN-antennas near WWAN-slot. Also because of gluided Yoga touch screens its unpossible to install WWAN-antennas by user without waranty lose. So it seems that X1Yoga's that sell's without WWAN-modems does not support WWAN-modems at all! So after all those problems it seems that at all configurations of Thinkpad X1 without WWAN-modem this WWAN-slot is absolutely useless!!! PS Also X1 have flimsy soiled case, loud keybord and a specially very loud touchpad buttons and trackpad buttons!  Does Thinkpad X1 with such problems are really premium device?!?!?!  Any suggestions for WWAN-SSD?!
