I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This problem randomly came on, the device won't charge unless it's shut down. When I plug in the charger while it's on I get a blinking white light and it doesn't charge. I've reinstalled Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery also I've let the battery die while plugged in and still nothing. I've also reinstalled Windows 10 to no avail. Nothing seems to fix this.

My laptop battery will only charge when it is powered down and the AC adapter is not recognized as plugged in while it is on.  I am using the original AC adapter.  While using the laptop with the AC adapter plugged in the laptop only runs on the battery.  The battery will charge only when the laptop is turned off or in sleep mode. The LED light next to the plug port turns on when I plug in the AC Adapter but the computer is not recognizing the adapter as plugged in. I removed and reinstalled the battery drivers through device managerI ran the batter diagnotics and the battery check good but the AC adapther reports as not plugged in when it is plugged in Could this be caused by insufficient contact at the computer plug port?  It is obviously making contact because the battery is charging but only when the laptop is turned off. I will look throught the BIOS setting but I doubt there is a setting to disable charging when the laptop is on!!! Thank you in advance for helping we with this.

Very strange issue here is happening here. When the laptop T410s is always off before it's docked, so once it's docked I press the power button and no image shows up on the external monitor.  I then open the lid of the T410s, press the power button on the laptop, quickly close the lid and it comes up.  I've tried different docking stations, power supplies and the issue still persisted.  I then tried another Lenovo T410 and it boots fine. Here's the kicker... When the T410s is not powered down while docked and only logged off, then undocked, and then powered down. When it's reseated into the dock and powered up it works fine. It then made me believe there was a Docking profile issue. I've removed the docking profiles and recreated them, since it that didn't work; I even set XP to allow us to manually choose whether it's docked or undocked.  This did not work. Is anyone else experiencing this or have the expertise on this subject?

Answer:If laptop is powered off on dock, will not display image when powered back on.

I have a T410s with 2 external monitors that I always used. 1x24inch LCD connected using VGA to VGA and 1x26inch LCD connected using displayport to HDMI. It used to be fine until some intel grapics driver update a while back. So I come to believe is the driver fault and/or the internal graphic card lack of capacity. My solution is to setup the monitors the way I like is to change the BIOS to boot up from displayport, and when successful going into the desktop then disable the laptop LCD. Then connect the 2nd LCD, extend the desktop and setup the resolution. From that point on I must always boot up with VGA disconnect then after into desktop, plug in the VGA cable and it will show up fine. If I forget and left the displayport + VGA connected when I bootup, it will fail and I have to do the initial setup again. So something with the displayport/graphic card/graphic memory is making the T410s 'forget' or discard the displayport. or the 1900x1200 resolutions of 2x monitors overwhelm the graphics card memory and it had to made a choice or give up. Most of the time it just goes blank or flash on/off In your case, if you only have 1x external monitor you can just change the BIOS to bootup screen in VGA/Displayport/Dock and when in the dsektop, set to duplicate mode for both screens. Then download this utility called ultramon and use it to setup the extended display setting to your liking, save the profile on the desktop/startup folder. When your T410s bootup, int... Read more

hello,I don't understand why I can't use my lenovo while charging it.Everytime I try this, it will shut off after a few minutes because batterygets too low. So why doesn't the battery charge when the lenovo is turned on?I've also tried to use it without the battery and this is the same problem : it shuts off aftera few minutes. So the only way I can use my lenovo is to fully charge the battery with computer off.

Answer:t410 can't charge battery when powered on

Most likely the PS you're using is too small wattage for the model. Since you never indicated that it worked before I would presume you go this second hand.Other than that the inboard power PCB may have a problem.

My wife has a Lenovo Ultrabook laptop that is around a year old.  It runs fine on AC power, but the battery is not charging.  In the last few days, it ran down to 7%, but now won't charge back up.  With the AC cord in, the screen says, "7% available (plugged in, charging) - but it is obviously not charging.  This laptop has an internal battery, so it's not as easy as just removing the battery and replacing it with a new one.  Any thoughts on what could be wrong here?  It seems to run fine when plugged in, but no one wants to have a laptop that has to be attached to a wall plug at all times.

Answer:Lenovo laptop won't charge

Hi Lenovo_laptop,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with laptop not charging

Please try to perform a battery gauge reset: go to power manager by typing power manager in the windows start search option and select advance mode in power manager and select battery maintenance option and click on perform reset under the battery gauge reset option.

I've had this laptop for 9 months, never had a problem. Earlier the battery went down to 7% so I grabbed my charger to plug it in but as soon as I plugged the charger in, the laptop just swithched off. It didn't shut down or anything, it just switch off. I've now had the charger plugged in for 3 hours and the charging light hasn't turned on and the laptop won't turn on at all. I've tried changing the fuse of the charger and even taking the battery out and putting it back in again but nothing has worked. Please help! :/

Answer:Lenovo z50-70 Laptop won't turn on or charge?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Have you tried clearing the CMOS to see if it will help resolve the problem ?  Just follow this procedure.....

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If that doesn't resolve the problem then I recommend you contact Lenovo Support for warranty service.

Hi all, I have a big problem. Some days ago, I was using my laptop while it was charging. Then, it suddenly turned off. I noticed that the battery light was red and blinking. I turned on my laptop and there wasn't any problem, it worked fine and the only strange thing was the battery icon, that showed around 7 %. It charged well and there wasn't any problem. At the next day it happened again, but when it was charging some hours later, the laptop turned off again. This problem kept happening this last days, but now when I charge the laptop, on the battery icon it says "connected but without charging". The first times this new issue happened it was solved by disconnecting and connecting the charger, but now it charges only by 3 or 5 seconds. Sometimes it works well but till around 60 %, where it start to doesn't charge. Can you help me?

The original 6 cell battery charge drains when my X220 (i7 2640) is completely powered off or hibernates. When the battery is detached no charge is lost. When I disable WOL and Always-On USB, the charge lost decreases. Is this a common issue or do I face a hardware malfunction?

My lenovo was working just fine then suddenly it turned off, will not turn back on nor will it charge (light indicator not lit). I tried to take the battery out but its internal and fused to the hard drive. There is a button battery 2032 that I can remove. I tried to hold down the reset button with a paperclip for 20 seconds method with no result. Just bought this computer in the spring, but I couldnt afford the warrenty. It has not been dropped nor has it been exposed to liquid. I need help I am in college and school starts back up soon.

Answer:Lenovo laptop wont charge or turn on...

You don't need to buy a separate warranty, there is one from Lenovo for at least a year. Contact their support. The only warranty you'd be buying extra is maybe a accidental damage one or an extended warranty from whoever sold you the laptop, not the base warranty that comes with a new computer.

My laptop's battery went all the way down to 0% and shut down. Now when I try to charge it, the LED battery indicator keeps flashing red and won't charge. It has been charging for the whole night now, but it still hasn't charged. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions or solutions for this problem. Thanks in advance!

try to remove your battery and seat it well. if this doesn't help - probably not - your battery may be dead. contact lenovo support line to replace it for free if you have valid warranty.

i have a common problem that my laptop don t on or charge battery or switch on ac adapter by reading through the forum's  i can t find out what the problem would be so i can solve it ?

Answer:my laptop lenovo don t charge or load on ac power adapter

n1ghtwalk3r, Welcome to the forum.  What model system do you have? If you remove the battery, will it start up on AC?   I suggest you get a digital meter, set for 20V DC range and test the voltage coming out of adapter at the tip that would plug into the laptop.  This should help you figure out if the Adapter is working - it should be putting out 16V-20V. If not, replace it. If it works, and your system runs with the battery out, then I suggest your battery is bad and should be replaced. Best regards, Mark

I have a new Thinkpad Edge 15".  After charging the battery to 100%, I shut the system down and leave it powered off over night. In the morning the battery has lost 30% charge.  I have charged the battery to 100%, unplugged it, left it unplugged overnight, and found the battery is still at 100% in the morning. This indicates to me that the system is discharging the battery even after being shutdown.   What can I do to determine why the battery is being discharged ?

Answer:T420 4180 USB not working: The yellow powered USB port works but does not charge my devices

hey fstronati, were you trying to charge your devices while your T420 was switched off and there was no AC adapter connected to it ?This will not work, the USB powered port will only work if the power adapter is connected to it when your unit is switched off or if the unit is on standby mode.

i have tried most steps i know in other to make it work. I have gone through the device manager to allow it work while in sleep mode and also changed the power option, but it still remains the same. Does this happen to other lenovo product or is it that my windows 7 ultimate os installed on it is countering it? I do charge the phone with a friends laptop before i got this new one. Any solution will b useful please

Answer:lenovo g570 laptop doesnt charge my android phone when in sleep mode

It may depend on whether you have an "always on" charging USB port.  Download your user manual / maintence manual for your notebook and look for this feature.  If not listed, it may not work in sleepmode regardless.

About a year ago, my Lenovo Thinkpad T500 was overheating constantly and would shut off during gameplay. Eventually, one day it stopped coming back on.I would turn it on, the lights would flicker and it wouldn't come back on. Here's a video of the light display: http://vimeo.com/89316779I've since bought a new laptop, however I miss using this laptop and hope to fix it.Now, this year, when plugged in, or battery inserted, the lights come on without me pressing the power button. They also come on, on the DVD drive. There's also a sound from the DVD drive, so maybe it is from the drive powering on, and then it shuts off. Then does this again, in an infinte loop. I don't know if it is even charging as it keeps flickering on and off. I've tried unplugging the CMOS battery, removing the RAM (got no beep) and I am just confused.I also tried the static discharge trick I've read about here, in the forums.Apparently when I hold down the power button, the loop stops and just the light of the adapter remains on. So stumped. Can anyone offer any help? It'd be much appreciated.

This laptop will only charge if Windows is Shut Down and the cord is connected. We have had sporadic success disabling and/or uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery from the Device Manager, but this only works for a short time, and then the issue returns.  We have updated BIOS Update for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Windows 8 (64-bit), Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Windows 10 (64-bit) - Notebook Version: 9ECN43WW(V3.03) from here:http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Lenovo-Y-Series-laptops/Y50-70-Noteboo...We also tried installing Advanced Configuration and Power Management Interface (ACPI) Driver for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit) ..., but it does not seem to do anything. We have tried another power supply that is known to be working, and it has the same result. Operating System is Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good afternoon, I have had my lenovo for around 2 years and until now it has been perfect. My problem is that when I turn it on, it just stays as a black screen. The white lights stay on, I hear the system boot up but there is nothing going on from that point. I have ensured the ram is in, checked with a vga cable for output (none) and when the computer did once come on I started a system reset to see if returning to factory settings would help. It did not. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a fix that can be applied. Many thanks for your time.

Good evening! I have a Lenovo Edge 2 that has been babied since purchased. Never abused, dropped, no scratches or dents, it's in fantastic condition still. I purchased the extended warranty, hoping I'd never need it.Last year, it stopped charging properly. The battery power dropped to 0%, and hasn't increased since. The machine will only power on when plugged in to AC power, and will immediately power down when the adapter is disconnected. The charging status indicator LED on the right side of the machine flashes orange in a non-steady, intermittent pattern, and the charging indicator in the taskbar in Windows 10 does the same thing. I returned the machine to Best Buy, they sent it to their "Geek Squad" facility for repairs, and the AC Adaptor and battery were replaced, under warranty. The machine was returned to me, and still doesn't charge.I contacted Lenovo, they advised I would need to return it to their facility for repairs. I put it in the provided box, and dropped it off to FedEx on 6/24/17. It's now been 2 weeks. I contacted Lenovo to inquire about the status of the repair, and was told "The technician found evidence of damage, and the upper case will need to be replaced as well, but damage isn't covered under warranty, so you'll need to cover the cost of the repair." I asked for the price, was told "A technician will email you with the price." I inquired about the status of the original repairs, they told me the claim was on hold, pending my review and... Read more

Have been having this problem for a while now.

Every so often, the headhphone jack on my laptop just stops working after hours and hours of the laptop being on.

The built-in speakers of the laptop work fine. What happens is that while the computer is in use (after some random amount of time), any hardware plugged into the headphone jack of the laptop will not playback sound. This includes headphones, speakers and the like. The sound device manager in control panel shows sound being output, and if the headphones/speakers are disconnected, the audio plays fine on the built-in speakers on the laptop.

I haven't been able to figure out what exactly causes this problem. I have tried resinstalling the driver several times. I am 100% sure it isn't the headphones of the speakers that I use as I use these speakers and headphones on many other devices (phone, tablet etc.)

The only way that this issue gets fixed is if the computer is shut down and then rebooted (a restart doesn't work, the computer has to literally lose power for the problem to be fixed).

It seems very intermittent and I'm not sure how to approach this problem

Any ideas?

Answer:Headphone Jack on Laptop Stops Working Until Laptop is Powered Off

One idea would be a look the power plan in use. If you are running with the default Balanced power plan you may be seeing that nterfere by conserving battery power temporarily turning the audio off being a constant drain. Another thought could be a result of the onboard audio chip itself getting too warm where the hardware protection circuit will then come in and deactivate all sound. That is usually seen as far as the cpu temp as well as other major components. The audio being onboard would also be monitored by the bios not so much by Windows.

The other possible cause of losing sound would be the headphone jack or the board end having a cold solder point getting warm and expanding just enough to break the connection until cooled off. The complete shutdown of power would tend to suggest a temp or regulation issue where either the power plan or temp monitoring would have to be watched. And one more thing would be setting the laptop on a fan cooled stand or effective notebook cooling pad to draw heat away from the unit if you are not already using one. Laptops are known to get quite warm with extended use since everything is packed into a tight space with the typical serious lack of air flow unlike the usual desktop with front, rear, and side or top case fans in use if not water cooled.

You have some things to consider in the list of things there. Increased overall cooling, not planning to use the laptop for extended periods of time which can allow for something to overheat i... Read more

My HP Omnibook xe4100 laptop has a broken DC Jack socket, i've decided to get another laptop as I want a faster one anyway.

Is there another way this machine can be powered? on the bottom of the unit theres metal contacts? 2 flat round ones and 2 metal clip types set in small square holes. Does anyone know what these are for?

I mostly want a way to power the machine to format the hard drive to clear my data.

Answer:HP Omnibook xe4100 Laptop, Broken DC Jack, Can the laptop be powered any other way?

Hello,

On the underside of the Omnibook xe4100 is a port replicator docking port.

The port replicator has an AC power port. I think it's possibe to power the laptop by docking it to the port replicator, and connecting the power adapter to the port. Though I'm not sure. Besides, this is costly and rather pointless since you can't really use the laptop anyway.

If you want to format the hard drive, then you could take it out and put it in another laptop and format it (if the laptop has the same hard drive interface, eg: PATA / SATA). Or you could purchase an external hard drive enclosure for 2.5" hard drives and format it.

If you're not going to use the hard drive again, then why not just remove it from the laptop and store it away, or destroy it?

Lenovo Notebook E540 battery drains when it is not powered on. My colleague said that there is a cloud connection being connected during power off and it consumes power. Is that possible? Any resolution?

Answer:Lenovo notebook E540 Battery drains when it is not powered on

Hi Kingchechan,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As far as I know only the Windows update will be accessing to the server, or might be any other 3rd party cloud related application, which might be accessing to the cloud server.

Did you check disabling USB always on in BIOS & Wake On Lan from Windows AND BIOS

Check running command powercfg /devicequery wake_armed to see if any device is programmed to power on the laptop might be this is consuming battery power.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hey so I have had this computer for about 3 months. It has worked perfectly fine the whole time. I had a similar model, U530, before this that worked great (it broke because of an accident on my part) as well.  However, today I was watching the internet and it looked like the monitor quickly shut off for a second. I moved the screen forward slightly after it had come back on and the computer suddenly shut off.  It will not come back on. When it is only using the battery the power button will not light up. When I plug in the power adapter, the power button will light up and turn off every second or so, but nothing else happens, no fan, no hard drive spinning etc... Is there any other way to diagnose this? I tried the manual but there was no information on light patterns or any precautions if it will not turn on.  I've tried turning unplugging the battery and holding down the power button, but to no avail...

Answer:Lenovo Edge 15, suddenly powered off and not turning back on

I just ran into this exact issue on my U530 Touch. I was just sitting there using it, unplugged, but the battery not about to die, and it just turns off randomly. When I try to turn it on, the power button lights up for a split second in response to me touching it, but that's all that happens. I've tried both plugged in and not and neither cause much of a reaction. Any ideas?

I have experienced this problem on multiple Lenovo laptops (all Thinkpads), multiple versions of Skype, multiple versions of Windows (all 64-bit) and multiple Bluetooth headsets (all Plantronics). In this case:  W510, 16GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, Skype 4.2 and 5.3, Plantronics Voyager Pro Without Skype running, I can use Fn-F5 to enable BT, power on the BT headset (it auto connects), power off the headset (it auto disconnects), and use Fn-F5 to disable BT.  Furthermore, I can do all this multiple times.  All seems very robust. With Skype running, I can do most of these steps and they work fine, I can use the BT headset with Skype, etc.  Just one critical thing does not work:  If I power off the BT headset while Skype is running then I immediately get an error pop-up and Windows application event log entry indicating that the BtStacker.exe process failed (ie. crashed).  From that point on, BT is unusable until I reboot Windows. It's the Lenovo support BT drivers (created by Broadcom, apparently) that crashes.  QUESTION:   Is anyone else experiencing this problem or know of a solution? I reported the problem to skype when I first encountered it, long ago, but without getting any real attention on it.  I just opened another incident and so far there is no indication of a problem within Skype, itself.  The concensus if mounting that the root cause is in the Broadcom driver. Here is the con... I am getting tired of getting a pop up EVERY day when I turn on my computer saying a new update is available for Lenovo solutions for small business powered by intel small business advantage.  It never gives any more details.  I have downloaded and installed but am tired of doing it.   Is it necessary?  if not, how do I stop it?   I have a E530c running windows 7 pro

Answer:Updates EVERY day ? WHY? Lenovo solutions for small business powered by Intel

I have the same harmless, but annoying problem. The download works, but the installation fails. But checking the box that says "Don't remind me about this update" doesn't work, and every time I boot my machine, I'm greeted with that same nagging update dialog. Can someone suggest how to get rid of it, or better yet, get this update to Lenovo Solutions for Small Business to actually work?! Thanks.

I would like to know if it is possible to power a laptop (any) by using a standard USB port and by doing this preventing the use of the normal connection that connects directly to the main.I would like to power my laptop using the cigarette lighter in my car directly by by-passing the normal mains connection and use one of the 4 standard USB ports in my laptop. The problem occurs when trying to order an in-car laptop adapter the connector can have several OD and ID diameters and usually it depends on the brand of the laptop and model (e.g. Sony is different than Acer laptops). I think that powering the laptop directly from an in-car cigarette lighter to a USB standard port in the laptop can eliminate the problem of the versatility of connectors in all the laptop brands and models. For example there are on the market cigarette lighter devices powering PSP by using a standard USB connection.I wonder if somebody may give some hints on this.

Answer:in-car usb powered laptop

I'm sure (but I could be wrong) that you can't power the laptop via the USB port. The port is designed to output power at a few milliamps, whereas the power connector is designed to input power at several amps. Maplin supply a number of in car power supplies with adaptors for different power sockets e.g. click here.

Lenovo Thinkcentre m92p sff (3227) makes Beep sound when powered on since I updated the bios to the version: 9sjw99usa.exe.Also since I replaced the stock lenovo Fans with Noctua fans it makes a second beep (so 2 beep sounds total and there is a fan error in the bios event log), when I connect back the stock fans it makes only 1 beep again. I dont know if the noctua fans would cause the same behaviour on the older bios version since I replaced the fans after the bios update , but I know that with the old bios version there wasnt any beep on startup with the stock fans.I read somewhere that lenovos can give errors in the bios event log with other fans when their rpms are slower then the original fans rpm were, that doesnt explain the single beep on start up with the stock fans though.I wasnt able to find any older bioses for my model to experiment with them on the lenovo support page only the newest bios is offered for download and I wasnt able to find a way to turn of the self test / beep post on start in the bios. I remember that some oem pc systems had key combination for hidden bios settings, does someone know of such a combination to enable hidden settings for my device, or any other way to turn of the annoying beep sounds?I also replaced the stock PSU  with a Be!Quiet! One of my computers is a Compaq Presario with 512MB of Ram and AMD Turion 64 processor and 40Gig hardrive.

Earlier the computer was operating fine, then I turned it off for a little while and turned it back on. When I turned it back on all the fans would kick on, and the computer would try to start, but then gets into a visious cycle of trying to start windows xp, not getting anywhere so starting over again from scratch. It will do this for ever and never actually load anything.

I have checked the RAM and it is in tight...if I am fast enough I can get it to load into BIOS and everything works fine in BIOS...this is the extent of my knowladge though, any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated...I atleast need to be able to get on the computer to get everything that I need off the hardrive before I scfrap the computer.

I was wondering if it's possible to keep the usb ports powered when the laptop is turned off? I've read that other laptops can enable this through bios but the y580 doesn't allow access to it.

Answer:USB powered when laptop is off? Y580

Good day.

I looked through the Y580 User Guide and saw no mention of Always-On USB port(s). I don't have a Y580 to check, but generally, machines so equipped have one or more of the USB ports colored yellow, which identifies them as Always-On-capable. Do you see any such ports on your machine?

Hi chinaman25!

You need to check "Enable Always On USB" under Global Power Settings in the Power Manager. If that doesn't work, check that it is also enabled in the BIOS (Config>USB).

The laptop itself can be fully charged and die in soon to about 5 five minutes when unplugged, but that is usual. The main issue is, when the laptop is powerd down, its light that shows that it's chargine, or fully charged and plugged in, when i power the laptop, the charger just stops working, and does the screeching deal.

Just recently, my Inspiron 5150 laptop has decided that when I turn the power off, it wants to run the fan! Sometimes it runs on an almost idle-speed, but most often it is running full blast.

The moment I power up the laptop, the fan returns to normal operating speeds. If i plug in the power cord and charge it all the way, the fan turns off...but the moment i unplug it, the fan goes back on!

I have absolutely no clue what is causing this. It's extremely annoying, as the battery dies quite quickly when I take my laptop with me and the loud fan is extremely, extremely annoying. Any ideas?

The IdeaYesterday I came up with the bright idea of painting the palmrest of my laptop.  It was beginning to look rather ugly from heavy usage and my mouse burning the plastic. Please note, this laptop worked fine before I took it apart. The Disassembly/ReassemblyI started to disassemble the machine piece by piece using some very nice directions I found online: Link - http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaM45/Satellite_M45_disassembly_1.htm. My goal was to get this one piece of plastic separate from everything else so I could just spray paint it, so I removed the keyboard, removed the LCD, removed just about everything except for the motherboard (I skipped the part where it said to remove the heat sync because I didn't feel like redoing the thermal compound) until I just said "forget this" and decided to put it all back together. After reassembly I plugged the laptop back in and pressed the power button. The button light came on, the fan spun, the HD spun, everything seemed fine for about 2 seconds: Then it shut down. Now, this is where I have been for the past 24 hours. (note: The LCD gives no sign that it has powered up) In this time I have tried narrowing down what could possibly be the problem here. So far I have done the following things...- removed the HD and tried to power on, same results. - removed both memory cards, swapped their positions, tried one at a time, all with the same results. - reseated every connection that I removed during my... I'm sure this is going to sound obvious, but I would triple check and make sure you have everything reconnected correctly.  I would go though the guild again making sure everything that got disconnected got reconnected.  I would also check for any forms of damage.  Check for any loose screws or anything else that might be shorting something out.  Also make sure its plugged into the power.  My laptop will only power on for a second or two if the battery is dead.Like I said, I'm sure you've checked this, but another look never hurts.

Recently my 510 has taken to powering itself back on immediately after shutdown.. it just reboots (of it's own accord). I have not adjusted any of the setting in any manner - and before this, the machine had no issues shutting down. I will say before this became a full-time phenomenon, for a few weeks this was a sporadic occurance - but it just resolved itself during those occasions... and worked just fine the next time I powered up. Now it's a full-time dilemma. This issue takes place plugged-in or using battery power, using the power button, powering down by closing the lid... doesn't matter which. This computer is near-as-makes-no-difference perfect in every other aspect of it's performance. Just that it seems it has suddenly become a member of the undead..I actually have to physically remove the battery to accomplish successful and complete shutdown.I have researched this and have been able to find all manner of instances in which the machine turns off unexpectedly, but not a one that documents turning on unexpectedly. Any help or information concerning this is greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Answer:t510 laptop will not remain powered down

Hello and welcome,

One thing that might cause this is the wake-on-LAN option.  Check BIOS -> Config -> Network -> Wake on LAN.

It  can be sporadic depending on the local network activity.   The setting shoudn't change on its own unless you've reset or updated the BIOS, but it's worth a check.

Hello @Tiffany58, Welcome, and thank you for posting on the HP Forums! I have read your post and understand that your HP G62-367DX is not powering on. This could be related to either a hardware or BIOS issue. Did the notebook shut down the second you plugged it into the projector?what color is the light on the notebook where the AC adapter plugs in?Is there any light on the Caps lock or Num lock keys?Does the power button light turn on at all? I know you have done it before, but please perform another hard reset. I have a Dell 1525 Inspiron laptop..i believe is about 3 years old. I got it as a hand-me-down from my BF's mother, who took excellent care of it. Ive only had it since February, but it has always run fine, until this past month. 3 times now it has done this to me. The first time, it was just after I unplugged it to take it to a friends house..then tried to power it up about 1/2 hour later and nothing...let it sit for 2 days or so, and then it was ok..now it has happened 2 more times..but these times, it froze up and wouldnt unfreeze..then when I got it powered down and tried to get it back up..nothing...the second time it again took a few days then it was ok..this last time it has been a week and nothing yet. This time, the only thing that is different is that the 3 lights to the left of the power button are blinking, the caps lock, numbers lock and scroll lock icons.. It powers up, then shuts down within 5 seconds or so...but the power light and the one fan keeps running...Ive been told multiple things so far..from a bad battery to bad power cord to bad connection in the lappy where the power cord connects.. I just dont understand why it powered up those 1st 2 times and it wont this time..unless it was just a fluke those times. I dont have alot of money to fix it, or replace things unless i know for sure what im buying is going to work. I dont want to lose whats on it either!! help!

Hi, I have a Pavilion DV6 and not to long ago, i put it to sleep to do some other stuff. When i did, I noticed the "HDD" light was orange.(see attached image) I've noticed this before but it only blinked. It was never permanently on. I then came back and shut down the laptop. The light was off. As I started back the laptop, the light came on and was permanently on during useage. I then slept the laptop and left it for an hour or so and came back. The light was still on. This happened when the laptop was both plugged in and unplugged from a power supply. All other lights (mousepad, wifi, mute, charging, powerbutton) work fine.  Has anyone experienced this problem/ have a solution? Thanks in advance.

Now, we will not be repeating everything we have seen before. Most of the stuff covered in the first two articles remains 100% valid, so we will discuss chiefly the differences between the platforms. Performance, installation, things like that. Let us begin.Click to expand...

I wish my ASUS Laptop to be 'on' 24/7 as an Apache Server. It works perfectly now but after several hours, I cannot visit my web site hosted on this Laptop. Altho the Power Lite is lit, the machine cannot be accessed from my router.

I looked over all the power settings (and there are *many* of them), but can't find suitable settings that:

a. Will allow access 24/7 to my site visitors, But,

b. Let the display go blank after several minutes of *my* not using it.

Q:
What are the detailed Power Settings for 24/7 operation without my attendance at the machine, and web site visitors get immediate access to my site ? I don't mind the display going black as long as the machine springs into action when a client visits.

Thank you

This is surely a stupid question but I'm a Mac person and just learning about the "other" side.

One of our exec's is having a wake from sleep issue with his IBM Thinkpad (X31). He often has to hastily close the lid with the machine powered on and has difficulty getting it to wake up later.

2 questions.

Is the machine going into standy or hibernation mode when he does this?

What key(s) does he need to mash to wake it up? (preferably in an unlocked state.)

Thanks in advance.

I am looking for a laptop that is light weight, has a screen that is at least 15" and consists of quality components. It will be used as a temporary replacement for my very good Asus that I use as a desktop, should the latter need servicing. Furthermore, I want to be able to take it outdoors some 50' from where a router will be placed so that in the summer I can "tune in" major league baseball games, handle e-mail, and browse the Internet. Computing speed and storage capacity can be minimal, just so they are very adequate for the operating system, which I expect will be "Ws 7." I am not interested in a "Mac" nor in Linux, which is over the head of this 80 year old!

Your suggestions will be appreciated.

Hello,

It has been a long time since I posted a problem here.

I have been using a Toshiba Satellite A505 here in Japan for the past 2 years and I have not encountered any major problem before. the OS is the packaged Windows Vista Home Premium.

In the past month however, I noticed that there have been increasing number of times when the system will slowdown to almost a halt. Some symptoms include choppy video with crackling audio, intermittently not responding web browsers, and unplayable games due to slowness that I can play normally before like CoD Blackops and MoH2010...

My annoyance turned to alarm this morning, when my system just suddenly powered down...so, I hope somebody can help...

I attach here a zip of files generated by MSInfo, Autoruns, and HiJackThis..I continuously run SpyBot S&D Resident and Avast. Avast has not reported anything lately and my last Spybot scanned turned out some minor web cookies which I have already removed. I have not been able to update myself on the processes and services vital in running Vista, but i think that those running services from Toshiba is ok for me...

Thank you for any assistance/suggestion...

I recently purchased an Inspiron Gaming Series Dell laptop and since yesterday when I open it/turn on the power button the screen displays green/white vertical triangle lines (can provide an image). It DOES NOT display the Dell logo at all and doesn't even give me the opportunity to sign in, it just stays stuck on the screen.
This laptop is fairly new, purchased back in August, so it should still be under warranty, but it worries me that it is having issues when it is still fairly new. What could be the cause of it? Any way I can fix it?

Answer:New Inspiron Gaming Laptop- Vertical Lines When Powered On

I'd suggest updating the System Setup(BIOS). Please following the instructions in the video below to safety installed latest BIOS version.

Please help. I have an Asus F555LA-NS72 laptop with windows 10 on it. It ran out of power during a windows update and shut off. I turned it on it told me to choose a keyboard language. I chose it and it took me to Windows Recovery environment. I couldn't restore it because I had no restore points saved and the startup repair didn't work either and I had no disks to restore windows 10 from. So I chose Windows rollback to my previous version and it eventually just went to a black screen but my cursor would show up when I moved it but would disappear seconds later. I left it That way overnight and it was the same when I woke up. Now I turn it on and it goes to the black screen again after the Asus logo appears and i have no way to access windows recovery environment nor boot into safe mode. However I can go into the BIOS menu. Any tips? I really need help with this I've only had this laptop a few months. I apologize if there's any typos I'm posting this from my phone.

Hello, My laptop is prone to overheating. I read online that this can be fixed by disassembling and cleaning the laptop. I did so, then carefully reassembled it, and now it makes a beeping sound when I power it on. It beeps 5 times in 3 sets. The beeps are in the pattern of 3 long beeps and 2 short beeps. After it does this 3 times, the sound goes away and leaves only a black screen, a constantly beeping Caps Lock (once every 4-5 seconds) and a constant light on the airplane mode button and the AC adapter LED appears to be normal.  I tried reseating the clock battery, Hard Drive and RAM card many times and also hard resetting. I also could not find any relevant posts related to my issue, and the few that dealt with the same beep code did not provide helpful solutions. I should also note my laptop is very old, but has been working fine (besides the overheating) up until I disassembled it. Please Help and Thanks!

I found your answers to this problem very helpful and I'm thionking of using the laptop with mains only, but two things I am still uncertain about is, if I were to remove the battery once fully charged, how long does it stay fully charged when removed from the lap top? and you say do not leave the laptop plugged in 24/7 so is it ok to unplug at night? Many thanks for any advice you can give me in this matter. (I did think my battery was faulty so I bought a new one, but that was even worse so I sent it back!)RegardsEdgar Fendtemail: <removed>@ntlworld.comedited by moderator: Removed email address -Razor2.3

Answer:battery power loss while laptop is being powered by mains

Ironically from all the experts I have talked to storing a fully charged battery is probably harder on a battery then storing a half depleted one. However leaving the computer plugged in all the time will cause it to continuously cycle. I am sure there are differing opinions in regards to battery longevity, however I would if you are to store it. Store it at room temperature without a full charge.I would also remove your email. You will get a email notice when someone replies, and most posters don't private communicate as its an open forum. Also you might get spammed.::mike

Hello,

So I just got my thinkpad t450s, and i've noticed that when i have the speakers plugged in to the laptop and the machine goes to sleep the speaker emmitt a buzzing noise. I'm assuming this is a grounding issue, does anybody have any suggestions for a fix or if this is something that could cause other problems? Is this a situation where is should be getting a replacement? Thanks!

Answer:T450s powered speaker buzzing when laptop is in sleep

Hi Mblo,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Sounds to me like your new cable is acting like an antenna and you're picking up the static from there.

Try connecting your speakers and computer at the same power outlet, with an extension cord. Keep the cable connected to your speaker, but plug them out of your computer. If you still get noise, the cable is the problem.

I hope the above information helps.

Regards,
Shashi

LINK Last question: Can I boot off of an external hard drive via eSATA if I needed too? I am excited I now have 1TB between my 500GB internal and 500GB external. The answer would be simple.  I believe the eSATA standard is powered, however if you plug the drive in (without the power connected) and it doesn't work, then you need the external power source. This is to say that not all devices can be powered off the power of the eSATA port, this has more to do with the drive and chipset used by the device.

Hi there

Intuitively one might think using Powered (from the mains) external USB HDD's would require more power from the computer as well compared with those small self powered units.

I've no way to measure this but I'm sure the small units might consume MORE power as the computer has to supply all the power for Disk rotation and the USB I/O controller.

I only ask this because I need to put two large powered USB units (both with 2 X 3 TB Raid 0 HDD's in each unit) on to a USB 3 Hub.
The two HDD units seem to perform perfectly well whether connected to the chargeable port on an HP laptop or the "non chargeable" ones.

The RAID 0 is powered by the HDD itself (internal Hardware RAID) --used RAID 0 for speed -- don't need to mirror etc - I've enough backup if the whole thing goes bonkers. !!

The files on these HDD's are serving music and video so not intensive used -- don't seem to have any problem streaming media from the laptop.

Any engineers out there - curious over what is the actual load (power wise) on the computer if a POWERED USB HDD is used compared to a Self powered one. Note the Hub I'm using is not also powered.

Cheers

Answer:Powered USB HDD - vs Self powered USB -- load on computer ?

We can suppose that a portable HD enclosure that has it's own power supply doesn't draw as much current from the 5 volt supply provided by the USB bus.

On a purely practical basis it simply doesn't matter. There are hard limits to how much current a USB port will deliver. USB 2 ports are limited to 500 mA, which is why they can be so bad for charging smart phones & tablets. A USB 3 port supports up to 900 mA.

The load presented to the host is not relevant. The external device either works or doesn't.

Hi there everyone !

I Didn't find very much information about this issue.. Might be an stupid question, but I need help..

I've been thinking bying of W510. So, is USB3 ports powered ? I'm asking, because in sales ads i've been looking they inform about two USB 3.0, one powered USB 2.0 and one USB2.0/eSATA combo port. So I started to get concerned, is the 3.0 port powered. This is rather important, because I need the superspeed port for video capturing, and my capturing device (Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle) takes it's power from USB.

Thanks beforehand for support !

Answer:Difference between powered and non-powered USB in W510

Hello mate, All usb ports provide power. What they mean by powered is the usb 2.0 port is always powered even when the computer is turned off. This port is in the back and is yellow. The other ports are not powered when the laptop is off but they are when it's on.

Hi everyone,
My name is James and I've been using my Lenovo y500 for 2 years now (originally bought it to use for school/gaming). I've never had any problems with my laptop until I performed a battery gauge calibration using an app that was made by LENOVO. Now I know this is a known problem but what about the people who have purchased these Lenovo computers, expecting them to last? It's really not fair to the people with no more warranty because this is software that literally came pre-installed with the computer. Like, why put this app on these computers if it's going to break your motherboard? Anyways... The ONLY way I can ever charge my laptop now is by doing this annoying/tedious process that I managed to find on this forum.
link: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Solution-for-laptop-cannot-detect-AC-adapter-af...1. Remove the battery (if laptop is powering on, then shutdown it first).2. Remove the AC adaptor from wall ac receptacle. 3. Once the laptop is completely powered down, plug AC adaptor to your laptop and wall AC receptacle.4. After a few second, insert battery back into the Laptop. And then, the battery will be chaged as usaul.5. You need to repeat step 1-4 above every time you unpluged the AC adaptor.

This is extrememly embarassing for me sometimes especially when I have class because people look at me like "what's with this kid's computer? it must be bad."  So, it's really ridiculous how little is being done about this... Read more

Hey folks, im sorry, im probably in the wrong theard!I have a problem with my new! Lenovo G500s.When i have my charger on my notebook it doesn't charge. There is standing:"Network operating will not be charge". The realy bad thing is, that wehn i didn't have my cable on my Notebook it lives not longer than about 15 minutes. After these 15 minutes my screen is black and i can not start my Notebook. I have to charge again, and wait over hours to start my notebook again. Can someone help me?  Thank you!Felix ps. Sorry for my bad englisch. I hope you understand what i mean.

Answer:Lenovo G500s does not charge!

hi Felix,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Just to verify, when you turn off the computer and plugin the charger, can you observe the battery light indicators and see if you're able to charge the battery.

G500s Battery Status Indicators

On the other hand, 15mins battery life is very low. If you have a 100% charged battery and it only last 15mins I would recommend calling Lenovo support as there's most likely a problem with the battery.

My Lenovo Y40-70 registers 100% charge left on the battery, but it will randomly shut off and/or go to 0% charge. It is under warranty, but I would like to be able to fix this myself. What is the issue? Is it simply a defective battery. (The Lenovo I have is 9 months old)

Answer:Lenovo Y40, false 100% charge.

hi Patton370,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you download and run BatteryInfoView to get a rough info and status about the battery.
   - Sample image

If you see a wide gap between the Full Charged Capactity and the Designed Capacity then it's likely that one of the battery cells is wearing down (it maybe due to heat, daily use, and age). In this scenario, the battery cell(s) lose the charge capacity faster than others cells.

In addition, take a note of thee battery features:

Voltage tap Most consumer equipment treats a stack of cells as a single battery, but this can be dangerous in lithium ion. As the cells age, some will lose capacity faster than others -- and if one cell becomes flat before the others, it can actually start to charge in reverse, which is a highly dangerous condition. The internal circuitry of the battery pack thus has to monitor cells separately and shut down the whole pack if one cell is too far out of balance.

Battery charge state monitor Many lithium ion packs have a built-in meter consisting of a row of LEDs and a button. To accurately report the state of charge, the pack electronics has to keep a record of the current in and out of the cell, as well as a model of its behaviour. This can become more inaccurate over time; more modern cells will recalibrate themselves.

The false 100% charge that you're getting is possibly due to the inaccurate reading of the battery... Read more

I've looked at the other threads and tried removing the battery while the laptop is off for 30-40 seconds but it doesn't run because it's not getting power from the charger at all.The laptop is a couple years old and the hinges on both sides have been pried off (can provide pics) but I never had problems until now - I plug the charger in but it won't charge and even if I pop the battery out it STILL doesn't charge! One night, I had to set the charger upright in order for it to charge. Today I had to set the bulky and heavy part of the charger higher above the laptop in order for it to charge. Now that I'm a friend's family's place I have no idea how to get this thing to work because proping the charger upright or higher than the laptop isn't working anymore!I've noticed a couple weeks ago when I was visiting my parents that the adapter emits a beeping sound - notice that I said the adapter NOT the laptop. If I unplug it the beeping sound fades. The beeping sound comes from the adapter and when I unplug the cord going from my laptop to the adapter you can hear the beeping sound fade away from the prongs that conect the adapter to the laptop (not the prongs that plug into the outlet).Like I said before it doesn't matter if I've plugged it into an outlet with OR without the battery in it, the laptop does not receive any power from the adapter or recharges.I don't have much experience with laptops so please go easy on me with suggestions.Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm travelin... So I was using my laptop last night while it was plugged in. Although it said it was charging, the battery level kept going down to the point it was on 0%. But while there, the laptop still ran for at least 15 minutes, then it died. I tried another outlet but it wouldn't charge and now I can't get on my computer. I tried the battery draining method hoping it would work but it didn't. Is my computer done for or is it able to be saved?

So, I got the laptop plugged it in and by the way lovely laptop. Charged to 100%, did  my laptop thing with it, and plugged it in over night. When I plugged it in it was at 84%. The next morning I went to grab it and - still at 84%? Overnight should have been more than enough to charge. The whole day it remained the same. That night I preformed a gauge reset, which as of now 9:50 Eastern Time today, it is still not finished. HOW? I've given it almost twelve hours now. Sorry for the paragraph, but as I know Z40s are new I want this problem to be known. If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I've been having a charging issue with my lenovo G580 laptop.  I've only had it for less than a year, and recently it stopped charging.  For a while I could twist the charger cord around and it would eventually start charging, however now it won't charge no matter what position the charger cord is in.  I've checked my charger cord on another computer and it will charge, but when I plug a working charger into my computer, it will not charge.  This leads me to believe there is an issue within the computer's charging system.  Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this issue?  Thanks in advanced for your help!

Answer:Lenovo G580 Won't Charge

hi applejack14,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Im sorry to hear what happened.

If the system is less than a Year old it means it is still covered under the base warranty.

One thing to help you isolate this is to Remove the Battery and the AC adapter.
Hold down the Power button for at least 15 sec.
                 Reconnect only the ACadapter.
Normally your computer will show an indicator light of power when an Ac Adapter is plugged in.
Also try turning on the computer.
       Now.
If you'r having trouble turning on the computer with only the AC adapter connected and you''re saying that your Lenovo Ac Adapter is working on other computer,
If the steps above did not make it charge the Issuegst you to call Lenovo Technical Support for Hardware Assistance. ther might be a problem on the systemboard charging system.  maybe from the DC jack to the motherboard.

Regards
