Preferred Solution: After minimized Image recover didn't show my another drives

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
I'm running Windows XP, and my taskbar has decided to play a very annoying trick on me - when I minimize windows, instead of going to the taskbar, they go above the taskbar, where I can only see them if I'm viewing the desktop. Please help! Thank you so much!

So I have library that has 4 folders in it. When I click library is shows all the items in each folder in tree view when I want them all minimized. Want to look like when you click on the locations link at the top once inside library it shows the folder themselves. Any way of doing this?
Also is there a way to export a library? Just the locations it refers to not the actual files themselves? Make it easier setting up pc again in future. kinda like you can copy a bunch of shortcuts to software you might instal later then past them where you want but do this for library.

Answer:Library - show folders minimized by default

Always double-click the horizontal header bar of each Location before closing the window. This is the only way I know of to do this. After a while, it will become so automatic that you won't even have to think about it.

Windows Easy Transfer does this by telling it to save your Windows Settings.

I have been on HP's help line for two days...no real answer except do a restore Windows back to a previous good date. Before I go that drastic, maybe on of you knows a fix.

When I minimize any program (running Windows XP Home) all of a sudden they now longer show on the task bar. I have to do Alt Tab to get to open programs...very inconvenient, especially for emails.

Another hinky little problem that just cropped up is that the Microsoft Shortcut Bar no longer loads automatically.

Does that hint a similar peculiar problem. Any ideas?

Thanks
Christine

Hi Meida, welcome to the Seven Forums.

I think the culprit is the Explorer process. To fix it you should run Windows system File Checker (SFC), see tutorial for instructions: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker.

I've got a PC that I recently updated the nVidia drivers for (well about 2 months ago) and now when I close or minimize a window, the image of the window is still retained. If I take another window, I can "clean" it up, but wiping it around the screen, but this is obviously a nuisance.

Specs:
WinXP OS
Intel Xeon X3220 Kentsfield 2.4 GHz quad-core
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R mobo
4gb Corsair DDR2 800
EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX

I've done several driver updates, and even rolled back with no luck. Also running dual LCD monitors if that makes a difference.

Chalk this up to being someone who never uses excel. I have excel 2007. I was trying to save the file when it mentioned something about a fidelity issue. I clicked "open in a new page", thinking it was going to open another copy of the spreadsheet. Well once it was open, it was just an excel file of the same fidelity issue warning. I clicked close and it asked if I wanted to save it and I said "no" not realizing it was talking about my work also.

I tried to look this up, I can't possible have been the first idiot to do this. I haven't done anything to the computer. I haven't opened excel again. I haven't made any changes to anything except doing a quick search on the internet and a search on here. It's been an awful week and this is just the icing on the cake.

Please help.

Answer:i didn't save my work, can i recover it?

I'm afraid your week just became "more awful" since there is no way to retrieve your work because there is nothing to retrieve. It may be a pain sometimes, but turning on "auto save" on a worksheet prevents the loss of lots of data.

During the Windows 7 install, when you have to choose which drive/partition to install too I deleted one too many partitions. I didn't format the drive yet, just pressed the delete partition button and confirmation.
The one which wasn't meant to be deleted is a partition of about 7.5 TB, of which 3.25 TB used.
This used a Guid partition table since the total size is > 2TB.

I already tried using testdisk to restore the partition, but no luck.
Testdisk does still see the files on the disk, but after writing the found partition table to disk it seems that testdisk only restores a partition of 2TB in size, the rest is considered unformatted space in Windows disk management.

Other specifications if required: 5x 2TB Samsung in RAID 5 using an Adaptec 5805 Raid controller.
The raid itself is fine, as expected.

I hope there's someone out there who knows a solution

Answer:Recover >2TB Guid Partition after delete (didn't format yet)

I have lost count of the number of times that I have advised people to use several smaller memory cards rather than one large one (if one card gets damaged then you don't lose everything).

However I fell to the temptation of a cheap larger card and sure enough lost all of my pic's - A good guess would be that I accidentally reformated it.

I have tried several recovery prog's, but the problem seems to be that they wont recognise my camera as a drive. Windows xp sees the drive, yet these prog's don't. Can anyone offer advice please ?

These days I encountered a weird problem with Music & Video apps on Windows 8. To my understanding, either app should be able to distinguish and show all my music/video files within the corresponding library. But I didn't see anything, unfortunately, and the apps only show things I got from Xbox store. I already tried to uninstall and re-install the apps and it didn't help. Anyone got any idea about the issue? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Windows 8 Music app didn't show my MP3

Hi Chris0917, Was the Music app showing your MP3s earlier? And I hope you have your MP3s and Videos already in Music and Video libraries respectively.
Anyway, first please try this as many new Windows 8 user face this. When you open Music app, you are shown the XBox music, just right click and you get the App bar at the bottom of screen, there you have Open file, there you'll be shown your all Music files, you can go up, browse , select the folder, file etc . Try this.
Another way to access this is, when you open Music app & are provided with Xbox music, just use the scroll bar at bottom of screen & scroll it left , and there it'll show My music and all your albums from the Music Library.
Please try this basic thing. Also add some Music files to the Music Library manually by going to desktop and see if it appears.Else create a new directory , add some music and add it to library & see if it appears. Also I'm hoping your Music is directly in Music Library. Else you'll have to add it to Library by going to your Desktop from there accessing Library, Music, Right click Properties >Add
If this is not the case the we might have to look at Music Library. Add it to Index, or delete the Music Library and create a new one. or look at the permissions
So please try these first, let us know. Thanks!

Hi, my name is Andy.

I want to ask a question about Network in Windows 7.
My workstation has multiple computers connected to a network managed by Mikrotik.
Before the black out a few days ago, the staff can access PCs and laptops connected to the network.

After the  black out, almost all computers (computer name) do not appear in Network Explorer.
If I search by computer name (\\ computername), there are some devices that can be accessed and there are devices that are not.
For inaccessible devices, I try to search with its IP (\\ 192.168.1.123) and the device appears and can be accessed.
There are also devices that can not be searched based on IP or computer name. I tried by adding the configuration in the C: \Windows\system32\driver\etc\hosts file. After that, the new computer
can be accessed. But still doesn't show in Network Explorer.

My question is, what should I do to get those computers to reappear in Network Explorer ...?
I've turned off Antivirus and disabled Firewall. And also activate the corresponding Services (DNS Client, Function Discovery, SSDP Discovery, and UPnP Device Host). I've also changed the
Network And Sharing Center settings to be searchable on all computers. Plus the Network Group settings are connected to the same 1 Workgroup.

Thank you for any of your response.

HELP!!!

I built my friend's dad a computer, taking his old one apart and recycling the case. Before I took his old machine apart I asked him if he was SURE he had everything off the drive that he needed, and he advised he was sure...

...However when I built the new machine he said he needs all his emails off the old harddrive (he never exported them anywhere, same with his address book)

Frustrating I thought, but I have a Harddisk enclosure caddy thing, so I thought I could just hook the drive up as a mass storage device and import them from his original drive.

I can access his orginal drive and all his "application data" which is where I presume they were kept, I tried copying over some of the app data for outlook to see if that would work (it didn't) I found 4 eml files on the drive and tried to import them to outlook on new machine, (didn't work) and I tried running outlook from the old drive, but it just fires up outlook on new machine with no emails or address book.

I am thinking they must be stored somewhere on that drive and surely there is a way to access/import them without having to rebuild his old machine from scratch, just so I can boot up windows and then export them in order to import them???

Anyone know a way????

Thanks!!!!!!!!

Hi, I'm on windows 10, using THIS to try and access my old IDE hard drives.

I hook the power into the hard drive, and the first one started "spinning", I then hooked the USB into my computer, and the IDE hard drive showed up under My Computer.

For the second one, I follow the same process, but it doesn't start "spinning" when the power is connected. If I continue the process and insert the USB into my computer, it "starts spinning" but is not recognized in My Computer.

Any ideas?

Answer:No drives were found...there are no fixed drives to show

From Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start:

Boot into BIOS setup to see if you can find any listing showing the HD is still alive. If so then run the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, following by a Disk Check from the installation DVD or Repair CD's Command Line.

If no sign of HD listed anywhere in BIOS - usually by a serial number you can google to find its make/model - then try reseating it or changing its cable to get it to register.

If HD cannot be made to register in BIOS, then replace it to do a Clean Reinstall Windows 7.

hi, first post, hope someone can help.

well, after running a memory optimizer I got crap results so I restored what was altered... yet, when I tried to browse on firefox afterwards, browser works fine btw, some glitches became apparent.

first, when a program is minimized, like firefox winrar etc, it does not show up on the toolbar at the bottom. matter of fact, the toolbar at the bottom doesn't show the programs that are running anymore. the quick launch stuff, clock etc are still there, but no program tabs... maybe I'm overlooking something simple, but please, a little help.

second, I seem to be not to be able to "copy/paste" stuff anymore.

I currently operate a PC with 3 separate HDD. I have my windows 7 and all of my programs installed on a 500 GB HDD. I have all of my files saved to a 2 TB HDD and a 1 TB HDD. I want to do a system image of the 500 GB HDD that has the OS and programs installed on it, however, when I go through to create a system image there is a check box to "Include a system image of drives (C, 1 TB_Storage (E" I only want to image C (The 500 GB HDD) I don't want to image E (The 1 TB HDD). Any suggestions?

Thank you,

My Sony Vaio (windows 7) died last night, after I dropped it in my garage getting out of the car. I removed the hard drive and installed it in an external case. I have it connected to my work laptop (dell windows 7) and I do hear the tone when I plug in the USB that tells me the computer noticed a new device. However, I do not see the drive available in explorer so I can copy my files.

After reading other posts I tried a few things with no success.

When I go into device manager I see "generic external USB device", and I have tried uninstall / scan for hardware changes. After a few minutes it changes back to "generic external USB device" so no good.

I go into disk management and I don't see the external drive at all.

What should I do next? Not an IT guy, just hoping I can recover my files. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Answer:Computer Died... trying to recover data from drive, windows won't show

Update: I went back into disk management and I do see "Disk 1" now, but when I attempt to initialize I get the dialog box and it asks me for the partition style. No mater which option (MBR or GPT) I choose I get "Virtual Disk Manager - Incorrect Function" as an error message.

Question: u330 recover image

I was attempting to use one key recovery to retore my u330 back the orignal factory setup, and the app crashed, wiping out the boot loader. i was able to get windows reinstalled using an vista install disk i had. when everything came back up, the system partition that was previously hidden was now accessable by windows, and i could not launch into the one key system recovery outside of windows to restore the system. I reinstalled one key in windows and tried to create recovery discs from the factory image since i now could access it, but one key kept crashing. Is there any way i can get a recovery image to get my system back to factory condition? Its a big hassle trying to get all the drivers and software from the site (not to mention not everything is there). thanks

how to recover from a image for every desktop using acronis? as i create from my previous machine and i try to recover to another desktop but the issue was the other desktop driver and previous machine does not tele. is there anyway i can clone a image that will tele the driver ?

Answer:how to recover from a image for every desktop ?

Do you have Acronis with Universal Restore which should be included after 2010? If so choose to Restore to Different Hardware.

If that fails you'll need to SysPrep to move HD to another computer or boot Paragon Adaptive Restore CD - to adjust the moved image on new hardware.

I have several images of my system, and require a couple of emails from them(to resolve an issue with an Ebay seller)I dont want to restore the whole system just to get at these emails(unless I absolutely must)I used DriveImage to create one image, and TrueImage to create another.I think it should be possible to recover the emails, just need to know which part of the images these emails will be in(Windows/Program Files/Docs & Settings, etc)

Answer:Recover just emails from image

What OS? You need to search for .dbx files. And if you need to import them into Outlook Express make sure they're read write, if they're read only for any reason they won't import. Or you could scan the entire image with something like this click here and just cut/paste the text.

I was troubleshooting some software install issues with this T400s Viista 64-bit computer but had issues. Decided to try a clean install of Vista instead of using the Lenovo image. But the install didn't work so trying to restore to factory image using Rescue and Recovery but looks like the Vista install corrupted the boot configuration. Now I can't restore the computer to the factory image using RnR. I get error:Boot configuration is corrupt.Prepair action: Partition Table repairResult: Failed. Error code = 0x490 Is this a MBR issue? I have tried to fix it using MBRfix but no luck. There is 3 partitions, which one is the bootable one? The partition for the Vista OS or the partition that contains the RnR software which contains the bootmgr file also. Anyone can tell me what is the correct MBR entries to a lenovo T400s with 3 partitions? Thank you.

Hi,

I just changed my gigabyte Z68 mobo to a Z77 but could not boot Windows 7 (made an image of my old 'C' drive before hand)...so I fresh installed to the same disk and installed drivers for the new mobo (windows.old is there). Now all my disks and their partitions are the same as before (names and letters) BUT...Can I do a 'system image' restore to get back the files, folders and programs from the previous (Z68) 'C' drive back into the new Win 7?

Will doing so bugger up the drivers for the new mobo?

Will I have to reinstall all my programs etc?

regards Russ

Answer:Can I 'system image' recover

You should just reinstall everything, the image will have all the board drivers for the old board and may cause conflicts with the newer ones.

Hello, I am new to this forum. I am trying to fix a friend's laptop. His disk drive crashed and I had to install a new HDD.Laptop is Flex 2-15D with UEFI and GPT disk format, Windows 8.1.I managed to copy over the following partitions to the new HDD:  WINRE_DRV    SYSTEM_DRV(active)    LRS_ESP    LENOVO (drivers?) and PBR_DRV (recovery partition).  I am missing the local_C drive and an undefined partition that was 128mb. I believe I have the necessary partitions to do a factory recovery. I have no OS, of course, because I am missing the local_C drive that contained windows 8.1When I power on, I get  messages to allow entering the BIOS(UEFI) or to enter the boot menu to boot from CD, USB, HDD, etc. However, there is no F11 option to do a factory reset.  Can anyone help me recover the F11 function? I would think that if I could fix the boot manager, I could do a factory restore.  UPDATE      Whoa,  I just found the NOVO button. It listed system restore as an option. When I selected it, it started loading windows and I thought it was going to be all good. Then I got a message saying onekey recovery partition was damaged.. Any suggesteions?

Answer:No F11- how can I recover factory image?

If its a new HDD, you cannot use the OKR functionality on this since there are no files. (This is as per my knowledge)
If you have a backup  image/ OKR USB then you can use that.

You will need to create a bootable USB with Windows version (whichever was installed on your friend's laptop before the crash)
You can download the windows, download microsoft's USB/DVD tool and create a windows bootable drive.

The first hard drive is unpartitioned space. It still has all the data on it. I was going to reformat and I stopped after selecting it as unpartitioned space before it was formatted. it is a laptop HD, so I know I have to buy an adapter to hook it up to the desktop, but will I be able to get all my data off of it or is it a lost hope?

On the second one, its an external HD and some moron (me) plugged in the power cord backwards. Now the light comes on on the case, but when I connect it to the computer, it doesn't show that it sees the hard drive. Did I mess this up? Can I get any of the data off of this one?

what comes to the data recovering...when i had to do some of that, I used a recovery proggie called tiramisu: http://www.totalshareware.com/Asp/de...pplication=333

was bit of a hassle but got the important files back with it. although i believe my file system back then was fat32, i dunno if tiramisu works with ntfs...

HELP. Just made Recovery Drive by creating a small partition drive (50 Gb) on an external USB HD (500 Gb). It all seemed to go well after a copy of the Recovery Drive was made. I had two other partition drives containing important files on the same USB HD and they were still being recognized and accessible. I then did a recovery copy of the drivers and applications to Recovery Drive and suddenly the two other partitions disappeared. I can only see the Recovery Drive and unallocated volume on the USB HD. Can someone help me to find how to recover the missing partition drives from a large unallocated volume? What did I do wrong?

Answer:recover deleted logical drives

You need partition recovery software which is unfortunately rare as freeware, and even the demo versions are "crippled" inasmuch as it will show you the deleted partitions but won't actually restore them -- for that you have buy the program. One of the most popular is "Active Partition Recovery"http://www.partition-recovery.com/Now that you know what you need, you might try putting Partition Recovery Software into Google Search and see if it comes up with any free stuff.

My Windows 7 computer crashed today... and would not load Windows at all... the only option I could get into was the F8 help screen.... and having tried everything... and with a stressful day... what seemed to be a good idea at the time.... I installed Windows 7 from an earlier 'Windows 7 image'...

I have now 'lost' many personally valuable photographs that I didn't have backed up... is there any way to recover data that was saved before installing the 'image restore' and after the 'Windows 7 image' creation date?

Answer:Any way to recover data from before an image backup?

Did you install the image to the same hard drive that had your old Win 7 on it & what program did you use for the image install.
I would say if you reinstalled to the same HDD then the chances of any recovery are probably nil.

I tell ya, windows 8 was designed from the ground up to be a system so counter-intuitive, it is counter-intuitive to it's own counter-intuitiveness. It seems that everytime I try to do something that was three clicks away in earlier systems, I have to jump through several hoops while juggling to get to a menu only to find that the only option missing is the one I'm looking for (the audience for this circus is MS). OK, so I have a 2 year old hp desktop computer with windows 8 64 bit system. I just did a complete restore using the factory DVDs that HP was kind enough to send me because none of my restore options that came on the hard drive worked. So I have a bare-bones windows 8 on my 1TB hard drive, those silly little partitions that do something, and a recovery partition. I created another partition with disk management to store files I want. So now I have C partition, D partition (this is the one I just created), the recovery partition, and all those stupid little partitions the windows geniuses decided were absolutely necessary in order to confuse the masses. Now I go to use windows update and sit through a few hours and it decides that something went wrong and reverted back. Hehe, did it again and it went ok. Did updates until it didn't have anymore to give me. Now I don't want to have to do this all over again, so I go online to find out how to create a disk image in windows 8. I don't want to save some files. I want to save the entire windows partitions whic... Read more

Does anybody know if it possible ( and how) to recover a HDD drive image from one computer to another one?
I have bought a 2nd computer which I am keeping at a different location in my house . Since I have a lot of programs installed on it, I don?t want to do a fresh Win 7 installation and then re-install all the programs. It would be too-time consuming. So I thought of taking a drive image of the 1ST computer with the latest Acronis T.I. program, put it on an external USB drive and then recover the image on the new computer. I know that there are often problems with transferring drive images to another computer, but Acronis claims to have a Universal Recovery module ( Plus module) built in their latest True Image version, which is supposed precisely to allow image recoveries between different computers/HDD and I hoped it would work. Unfortunately it does not: when I boot the computer drive supposed to contain the recovered image, I get a message saying ? autocheck program not found, skip autocheck ? and then the computer keeps re-starting in and endless loop with the same message. Here is what I have done sofar:
1. Run a Windows boot-repair disk : it shows the recovered OS with the image, but it is unable to repair.
2. I have run the Fixmbr, Fixboot, Rebuildbcd and CHKDSK commands on the command prompt, but it doesn?t help either.
3. Somebody has suggested a missing file called mountmgr.sys. The file is there. I have re-copied it wi... Read more

Hello,
I've restored an image system from my IMac win7 to my new custom Pc. But it can't boot. When I use the recover CD Rom it say that Windows version is not the same as the image system you try to repair.
The image was made on an almost dead IMac (graphic card) so every graphic driver where removed before snapping the system. The IMac win7 was installed on a hard drive. Is this a problem to restore it on ssd? Is this the reason (coming from a Mac) why it doesn't work?

when I boot I face a blue screen, even in safe mode. Because of the CD repair version mismatch I can't access to c: prompt.
I'm out of idea
Sorry for my English, it's not my native language

Answer:Image system recover can't boot

Maybe it's because, IMac and Windows are two different corporations. They have very different work scheme, that's why you can't boot, but anyway, you should try moving the files to another computer,if it works, then your PC has a problem

Hi , i create a system image for my windows 7 from the control panel and save it on the d partition, but when try to recover system image it takes too long ' about 13 hour , so i cancel the recovery , and when i restart the computer there is black screen and message "no operating system" what can i do please help...!

My files and the system image folder (160GB) still in the d , but the c is down.

Answer:Fail to recover from system image .

Do you have a place other than the laptop where you can temporarily store your data that is now on D?

If you do, you may be able to use a built-in recovery partition on the Asus laptop to restore you to "out of the box" condition.

I'm not positive Asus laptops have a recovery partition, but I would guess that they do.

Or, if you have a valid Certificate Of Authenticity sticker on the laptop that contains a 25 character Product Key, you could download a legal Windows ISO file, burn it to a disc, and do a clean install of Windows using the burned disc. You would activate it with the Product Key on your laptop---if you have one.

Recently my HD crashed. I had set up windows image utility to make a back up automatically on a 2nd internal HD. However, when I go to restore the image, no images are listed. I can look at the drive using a command prompt and see that there is a file on the drive called "MediaID.bin" and a directory with my computer's name on it. In that directory, there is a directory for every back up this year with .zip files in them. It appears to me that the data is there, but windows recovery doesn't recognize there to be an image to restore from.

You can't navigate to a particular file, you have to let windows search the drive to find it.

Any ideas or did I loose all my data?

any suggestion to recover my data ?
sorry for my bad english

Answer:Lost my partition after recover an image

You maybe misclicked some option with Easeus and lost the D partition. If the data on the D partition was formatted it would be hard to recover them, or if it was overwritten by another data the recovery of them may result of some or most of them being corrupted.
You can use free program called Piriform Recuva and try with the Deep Scan options.
Tenorshare Any Data Recovery Free may help or you can try Tenorshare Any Data Recovery Pro with more recovery features but limited by 3GB of recovered data. (Other options may be MiniTool Power Data Recovery with 1GB of recovered data available).

Last option may be a TestDisk... It is preinstalled in Parted Magic (Linux Environment) from where you can recover your data (if possible).
Download from FossHub
It's version from 2013 but fully functional. You need to create a bootable USB with Parted Magic and boot your computer from USB, or burn the ISO on the CD. Bootable USB drive you can create with Rufus.

I have two hard drives in my tower; the C for OS (XP Pro) and software and the larger D for many files. The D was getting kind of full so I turned on Windows compression. Had a change of heart and turned it off, so about a third of files/folders were colored blue. Also had a plain text file where I stored numerous passwords. This file was among the items still colored black.

I decided to upgrade the mobo, CPU, RAM and the OS. I now have Win 7 64-bit. Was surprised to see that the name of the password file on the D drive changed from black to green. Finally discovered it was somehow encrypted. A lot of research revealed my only hope was to find something called an EFS certificate. Unfortunately it would have been on the now re-formatted C drive. But, wait; that drive was regularly backed up (Norton Ghost) to an external HD.

So what's the safe path to extract an EFS certificate from the C drive image file on that external drive?

I'll keep it short.
I have a hard disk with four partitions and Windows 7 installed on two of them.
My motherboard was damaged because of power fluctuations.
During the process of finding a new motherboard, I learned that both the Windows ran on some, while they showed the BSOD on others.
Finally, I got a new affordable and compatible motherboard, but both the Windows wouldn't start up and keep showing me the BSOD.
I borrowed a friend's hard disk, installed Windows 7 on it and accessed my hard drive.
I can see its contents and browse, copy, paste and delete data, but I can't recover my Windows, so it would work again.
So I emptied one of the non-Windows partitions on my hard disk and installed Windows 7 on it.
It's working fine, but I want to be able to recover both of my previous Windows.
Did I mention I don't have a system image of either Windows or system restore points on both of them?

Is it data or the whole win 7 install you want? You can use the easy transfer wizard to import data and MOST of your settings to the new install. You cant get the old install to work. It has different drivers, and many other things which is why it BSOD's.

Hi Guys,

I tried to start windows 8.1 this morning and it was stuck in a boot loop. System tried to carryout repairs to no avail.

I re-installed Windows and I have some drives that are setup in a raid configuration which has a system image I created some time ago after I performed a fresh install of windows 8.1. However, I can't seem to get recovery to locate it.

Is there a way of restoring from this backup to save my having to install each programme from scratch? The file is 141 gig and is an ADI file with an XML and disk image text file.

Answer:How Do I Recover Backup Image of Windows 8.1

What imaging program did you use to create that adi file?

The popular Aomei backupper creates .adi images, but is never unable to locate them. It also doesn't make the other files you mentioned, so we have no idea what you did unless you tell us.

You mentioned system image ( windows system image at a guess? ). That creates .vhd files and is sometimes unable to find them. Is that what you mean?

If so , then use something to mount the .vhd file ( eg. Windows disk management ) and make another image of the mounted .vhd using something reliable, like this: FREE Backup software for Windows 7, 8 and Server 2008 R2, 2012

Assuming the .vhd you originally made contains all the required files and is not corrupted, then the image you make with Aomei can be restored successfully.

( It is pronounced owmay, or if you prefer ay-oh-me )

I have shared the folder, I have tried everything that I can think of to fix this. Any Ideas?

Answer:Cant recover system image after crash

Hi Tinyman,

If you are using a typical USB external drive, and you can access it simply by browsing it via explorer, and you can see the image, then I'm guessing (and only guessing) that you might have a security issue here. Just for kicks, try setting your firewall back to defaults and also try disabling your antivurus. Then reboot and see what happens. Good luck.

Answer:no show image

Right Click on it and choose "Preview" - What kind of Image is it, if it is a photoshop image it probably won't show unless you open it with Photoshop.

I wanted to disable the highly irritating "automatic image resizing" function in Firefox. So I followed these steps:

I went to >

1. about:config in the browser
2. Entered "browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing" in Filter field.
3. Double-clicked the single result and changed it to False.

No effect.

Everything still gets resized if it's a large image. I also closed and restarted Firefox.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Solved: Firefix didn't disable "automatic image resizing"

Can you give us an example (website) of an image getting resized?

I actually had to clean install latest 10 build.....make a new system image (this part im not sure was needed but it didnt see my saved backups from before for some reason.)...lol i have never had to install a new os just to restore a windows system image back up before. (it kept telling me the image was corrupted) but it wasn't lol....Obviously reinstalling win 10 on my ssd fixed something but what it was i have no idea! This pc never crashes.....It crashed in the middle of watching a movie (bsod) and when it rebooted it said no os found.....Maybe a virus got thru Defender? My best guess is my ssd glitched (would be the first time for that)I hope it wasn't an update lol

Answer:Something finally hosed my system - and first time in 10 years a system image didn't work (at first)

Run the SSD tool for your particular brand and see what it is reporting. Maybe it can help point to something simple like a firmware update or failing cells.

Onekey version 8.0.0.0710 on Yoga 13 with Windows 8. Recovery does not allow recovery from external usb drives. 1. Why allow the backup to an external drive if you can't recover from an external drive?2. Drive D: is too small to store backup and copying backup to drive C: will not work either as a recovery will wipe that out.

The power supply in an older machine recently failed so I built a new machine. Now I'd like to recover the data from the 2 x 80GB RAID0 drives I had installed in the older pc. The RAID0 SATA HDDs have Windows XP Pro installed on them.

Can anyone recommend a way to access these drives and their data? Can it be done by connecting them to my new machine? Ideally I'd like to boot them and run windows to make things easier, but I don't really want to revive the old machine or buy parts for it.

Answer:Recover Data From RAID 0 Drives with OS Installed

You are going to have to reinstall XP so it works with the new systemboard, no matter what. The XP on those drives will just bluescreen because of the changed hard disk controller and I?O part.
Worse, the RAID is tied to the specific hard disk controller in the old PC and the only tools I know of are (not free) data recovery tools: http://www.runtime.org/raid.htm
Did you think to try using the new power supply in the old box?

Ok - need some help.

I recently upgraded my home built Windows 7 PC to Windows 8.1. When I did so, I lost my RAID 1 Array that was previously working. The RAID 1 was not my system drive but my data. My system drive is a Samsung 240GB SSD.

The Array (2 x 2 TB Seagate Barracude 7200) show up in the Seagate utility as a drive. However, the drive is not visible. In Diskmgmt.msc, the drive shows up without a letter, and my only option there is to "delete" not to assign a letter. In Diskmgmt, the two drives are listed below, but the option to "reactivate" them does nothing.

I do not want to reformat the drives, but would like to be able to properly mount them.

I installed Windows 8.1 from the web, without a disk. Therefore, I did not install any RAID/SATA drivers during the install. Thought I would do so afterwards, but it does not seem to be working.

The Motherboard is a: ASUS Rampage IV Gene LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Though I did help build this, I was not primary "builder" so I do not know if my original RAID was done within the ASUS MB or Windows 7. The other builder is unavailable for consult.

Hi all,

I've been searching for answers the past few days... I have successfully mounted a .wim recovery file, and I can access the folders etc. through Explorer. My problem is: The directories I need to access to recover files (like Users\Default user) gives me a "Access is denied" message. I am Admin on my local machine (and my domain user account also has Domain Admin rights) - I simply cannot access the files or change security permissions, or take ownership.

Any suggestions on how to access the folders where I can recover documents, photos, etc. from?

Thank you,
T

We're unable to restore/recover a system image we created recently using Windows 8.1.
Would appreciate your help to get it working, please.
System details:
Windows 7 w/SP1 installed on a 240GB SSD. All available Critical/Important updates also
installed.
Windows 8 installed on 80GB SSD. Updated to 8.1 successfully.
In Windows 8.1, changed default OS to Windows 7 w/SP1.
Dual-boot works OK. Win 7 boots after 5 second delay unless Win 8.1 is selected manually.
PC also has 3 other internal HDDs used for various data storage.
Used Windows 8.1 to create System Image backup. Secondary internal 2TB HDD chosen as
backup location.
System Image backup dialog box had checkmarks in both Win 7 and Win 8.1 checkboxes. In
other words, it insisted on creating a System Image backup that included both OS's.
System Image backup was created successfully on chosen backup location.
Today i inserted the original Windows 8 install disc and selected Advanced Tools, then
opted to recover a system image.
Recovery located the system image on the secondary HDD and began recovery process.
A few minutes later an eror message appeared saying System Image recovery failed, and he
reason was (i think) that the recovery disc was different than the recovery System Image.
I'm guessing it meant it couldn't recover a Windows 8.1 System Image when using a Windows
8 install disc? Or did it mean it couldn't recover Windows 7 using a Windows 8 disc?

Answer:Unable to Recover a System Image made with Win 8.1

I'm thinking that the recovery failed to choose an OS and/or failed to choose a target.
You might be facing a clean install!

Answer:how to recover registered window image product key?

Hi, a little research will show you how to download an iso file for free.
Here's a tutorial from the extensive library here:
Download Windows 10 ISO File Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

Make sure you pick the right language and x86 or x64.

Then
Clean Install Windows 10 Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

And yes, activation will be or should be automatic. No key needed as you've already had it installed.

How do you protect yourself from this sort of difficulty? As we repeatedly advise - use disk imaging routinely (Macrium Reflect (free) e.g. + its boot medium + external storage for image sets).

Thus you can restore a previous working disk/partition/Windows installation even to a new disk.

Hi
I got a new HDD on my HP notebook. I boot to the WIndows Recovery CD. It asks me what image to restore since the HDD is blank. I have backup images on my WD Passport external drive. However it says to install drivers. I have been to the WD website and made a CD by extracting the file they have available for downlad from another computer (which is XP) and tried to use those files on the Recovery Mode however says not recognized. I am finding myself stuck with a blank new HDD and no way to get windows 7 or my image back on there. any help greatly appreciated. thanks

I have a HP Spectre x360 which came with Windows 10 home and  I did make a system image backup to external harddrive straight out of the box after I did start the laptop a few times. After that I did upgrade it succesfully to Windows 10 pro. Now, I want to restore the system image backup to my laptop which contains the original Windows 10 home. However when I try to recover system image windows says that: "In order to able to recover this laptop, Windows has to format this disk in which Windows recovery environment is currently being processed. If you want to continue recovery, turn this computer off and start it from Windows installation disk or system repair disk and try then again recovery." If I would create system repair disk, laptop requires external dvd which I prefer not to buy if there is another choice. So what kind of "Windows installation disk" is required for system image recovery? I have bought earlier Windows 10 pro usb stick with full retail license for my desktop computer so can I use that usb stick as a "Windows installation disk"? And can I start my Hp spectre x360 using that usb stick and will I be then able to succesfully recover the system image backup to my laptop? I hope to get anwsers which are clear so that I dont get any misunderstanding. Thank you!

Can a deleted file be recovered from an image/clone hard disk?

Answer:recover deleted file from image disk?

Welcome to the Board see7102!

Not sure I quite follow your question. You deleted a file from your hard drive, but had previously cloned the drive to another drive? If so, and the file existed when the clone was done then the file is still on the other drive (unless it was deleted there as well).

Or, did you make an image of the drive and saved the image file someplace? If you made an image, then you may be able to access the file from the image with out having to restore the image. For example Norton Ghost has Ghost Explorer, which will let you pull one file out of an image file. Other imaging programs likely have something similar, but I'm only familiar with Ghost 2003

What software was used to make the image?

Jerry

I believe this is the sequence of events that got me here
Alienware x51 R2
I "inherited" this from my son. I bought this for him as a christmas gift in 2014 and he's recently moved to a new box.
I updated the bios through the Dell site and began receiving Activate Windows shortly thereafter.
When I try to activate trough windows I receive an error code None of the resolutions to this problem on the net have helped. I have since tried to use the Dell OS recovery tool. When I run it, it recognizes my computer and the service tag, but says, "No OS image for this tag, though images exist for the product.
I've scanned the answers in this community for this problem, but I haven't identified any that seem relevant.
Can anyone suggest a path to green?
Thanks,
Der Duke

Answer:No OS image for this tag, though images exist... Message when trying to recover

Download Windows 10 from Microsoft (I would wait a few days so you can get the updated installation .iso) and clean install using your Windows 7 OEM Product Key. If your system shipped with Windows 8.x/10 OEM the key is embedded in the hardware and will automaically be input during installation.

I partitioned my hard drive on my laptop, segmenting off 150GB for the sole purpose of backing everything up. In the case of an emergency, how would I restore from this backup?
Also, does the backup ever refresh itself or must I manually refresh every now and then? Will a new system image backup replace the old one?
How do I hide the Recovery (R:) drive so it cant be accessed or even seen by anyone except me?
And this is just because I'm curious. Why doesn't File History work with a partitioned hard drive? It doesn't seem to think it exists at all.

Hey Im new to these forums
and I have a problem with my computer,
So I've had this virus in my computer,
and it was real hard getting rid of it

I was forced to do Factory Image Restore

Problem is I lost all my data, folders, music, games, pics, etc.
I was hoping if they were still there on my hard drive,
The question is if they are recoverable?
Please help me out anyone,
I would appreciate for a reply

I did this yesterday just so you know

Answer:Recover Files After "Factory Image Restore"

A factory install will erase all files on the hard drive, so essentially they are gone.

However, you may be able to recover some of them using a data recovery application like Recuva.

That's 2 partitions. 100MB and 301GB

You just need resize your C: drive using disk management.
