I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just my 2cents, but have you tried putting the SIM in a regular handphone/cell phone? Sometimes, some carriers may require you to "activate" the SIM. You may also need to put in APN, etc information in the "Advanced Options".

Windows just updated again and now my LTE wireless card no longer works.  In the device manager the Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE hardware has an exclamation mark and the device status lists. This device cannot start. (Code 10){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful. I tried updating to the latest driverfrom July, but to no luck.http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS040771?LinkTrack=Solr I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling again, but no change.  It seems to prefer the "Generic Mobile Broadband Adapter" driver from Microsoft when I try to update. Any suggestions?

Hi Support, I would like to change a setting, so that the Sierra Wireless Adapter only connects to 4G networks. In Windows 10, I cannot see anywhere where I can easily set this. I would expect there to be mobile management software where these settings could be changed. I never want to connects to GPRS, and would like my Sierra Wireless mobile card to only connect to 4G or not connect at all. This would prevent the card dropping down to GPRS when the signal is temporarily weak and force it it to try for a 4G connection. I have had similar functionality on prior USB mobile data cards I.e. Vodafone, and hence the expectation that there would be similar settings on the Sierra Wireless. Thank you, George

Answer:X1 Carbon - Driver Sierra Wireless EM7345 ?

Hi, jkuengWhat's the OS installed on your laptop? For win8/8.1 there are no needs for drivers if the card is in MBIM mode. It must work natively in OS. Let's check it. Look at the Device Manager, open Network Adapters item. You should see something with AiarCard. Open Properties, Details tab, pull down Options list, find out an item Compatible ID. Looks like USB\Class_xx&SubClass_xx&Prot_xx). Copy the values and past here. Will look.

Also, could you, please, post here USB IDs of this card? Find it at the same list under Hardware ID item (looks like VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx).

Hello everyone, I'm a bit desperate because I already tried so much.I'm running Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo X240, BIOS version 2.3 and the WWAN functionality broke about two weeks ago and I'm quite sure that this is related to a few updates that came either with Windows or more likely with Lenovo System Update which had a BIOS update and some driver updates alongside at that time.I cannot even try to establish a connection to the Deutsche Telekom LTE network, because all I'm seeing is "Insert a SIM" in the connection bar. This is what I tried so far:Use a different, well known working SIM card.Re-Install the driver packageUninstall and re-install the driver packageuse the "repair" function of the driver package setupBIOS downgrade from 2.3 to 2.29Disable and enable the WWAN functionality in the BIOSReplace the mainboard (lenovo service technician just went away an hour ago)And I'm still having the same issue. Now it's really nailed down to be either the BIOS or the driver in win 8.1 x64. One thing makes me wonder:When I choose to update the driver in the device manager and the Sierra card details, I'm pointing Windows direclty to the directory that contains the inf files and the device manager tells me that "The best driver software for your device is already installed." and shows me a "Generic Mobile Broadband Adapter". Is this an indicator for Windows completely ignoring all drivers in the setup directory of the driver package? Also, when I lookup the driver details, i... Read more

Dear All, I have a X1 Carbon with Sierra EM7345 WWAN modem. It is all installed perfectly - drivers etc. But id does not recognize the SIM card. I have googled a bit and I can say that:1) I have the drivers OK, I have the WWAN network adapter etc.2) I have inserted the SIM card correctly The SIM card works perferctly if I use the USB 3G stick instead. So the problem is not in the SIM card.I think there is some configuraiton of the Sierra modem which should be done - to switch to 3G/2G or something. Please help - one of the main reasons to buy this laptop was the embedded WWAN. Thanks. Here are some screenshots with the config:

WARNING!!! The instructions in this post are applicable only to EM7345 installed in Lenovo laptops!! For example, models T440, X240, X1 Carbon 2nd and 3rd gen, X250. For tablets or other devices don?t use the firmware given in this post, you can brick your EM7345! Unfortunately, the default factory EM7345 firmware version  (1.1) has some bugs. For example, after connecting to a LTE network and then disconnecting manually, the network status of the connection was changing for me to ?No service? until device restart. Also, the device often disappears from Device Manager and reappears there with the name ?1 CDC? and does not work until you disable and then enable it again in Device Manager. All those issues are caused by some bugs in EM7345 firmware. But there is a newer version of firmware, namely 1.2, where the above bugs are fixed. But by default, you cannot flash it, because firmware updating is supposed to work unattended. And this is not nice of Intel and Lenovo. The users must be able to do firmware updating when they need or want it! Bad, bad Lenovo, very bad! Here?s the instructions of how to flash your EM7345 to the latest version:Make sure you?re using Windows 8 or 8.1Go to the control panel and uninstall Sierra Wireless EM734x 4G LTE Software from Program and Features.Reboot your laptop.Download and install the latest EM7345 driver package from the Lenovo website. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-l... How to flash the firmware of the sierra wireless em7345 on windows 10 ?  Its not possible through the steps i could find which was only for widnows 8.

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 windows 10

HiOnce the modem drivers are installed, including Intel flash tool, and the sim card inserted, during laptop cold start the flash service checks out whether newer firmware is available according to current modem fw and the sim card data (more clearly, cellular operator MCC/MNC values), and performs the flashing process if it's needed, in auto mode. You should see appropriate notification from the flash service in the system tray.

I am using the EM7345 in my X1 carbon 2014 on a daily basis. It works flawlessly with my local 4G SIM. (No need for APN settings)I went to Spain for a week and tried 2 different providers: Labara and Hits mobile. They are both guesting in Vodaphone's network. In the network connection dialog they both indicate Vodaphone ES with an additional roaming indicator. When trying to connect they both ask for an APN string: gprsmov.lebaramobile.espc.hitsmobile.es After clicking connect it takes like no time till it says "cannot connect," I wonder,Windows bug? (windows 8.1 update)Sierra driver bug?or maybe vodaphone trouble? btw, I also tried a "native" vodaphone ES sim (no need for APN settings)Worked perfectectly ! Any suggestions?

If I have understand correctly EM7345 is made specifically for Lenovo based on their requirements and specifications. Lenovo is also responsible for this firmware....on Carbon X1 etc...   I found an interesting AT command for Sierra Wireless EM7345. The command is ?AT+XCIQ?. There?s the following text string in EM7345 firmware file (it is present in any version so far): +XCIQ CIQ: Carrier IQ enable/disable.Let?s try to get ?help? about this command:  AT+XCIQ=? +XCIQ: (0-1) OK1234AT+XCIQ=?+XCIQ: (0-1) OKSo, we can suppose that 0 disables this Carrier IQ feature, and 1 enables it.Let?s read the current setting of this feature: AT+XCIQ? +XCIQ: 1 OK1234AT+XCIQ?+XCIQ: 1 OKLooks like it?s on by default. Let?s try to switch it off?NOTE: If you?re running firmware earlier than 1522.02, don?t enter the following command! If we try to enter: AT+XCIQ=01AT+XCIQ=0i.e try to disable Carrier IQ, EM7345 will have a fatal crash and reboot into boot flashing mode and it will be stuck there for good. So, Carrier IQ is always on and if you try to turn it off using the above AT command, that will kill the device! With firmware version 1522.02, AT+XCIQ=0 returns OK and there?s no fatal crash like in previous firmware versions. Also AT+XCIQ now accepts 3 possible values with 1522.02 firmware: AT+XCIQ=? +XCIQ: (0-2) OK1234AT+XCIQ=?+XCIQ: (0-2) OKSo, 0 must be disable, 1 enable, and what is 2? Hi , I have updated to the 1607 Anniversary Update in August and noticed that my WWAN Sierra Wireless EM7345 had problems starting up after reboot. Because of other problems with the 1607 I reverted back to 1511 and everything was alright again.A week ago I upgraded again to 1607 and again, my WWAN sometimes cannot start when booting up. The error log shows Miniport Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE, {b343453c-24e6-493d-ba47-33eaec4de5e3}, had event Fatal error: The miniport has detected an internal error (details see below). So this clearly has to do something with the 1607 update or the drivers for the WWAN. I am using the latest drivers from the Lenovo website and have also tried to update drivers in device manager. But no luck. What helps to finally start the WWAN is either a reboot (the chances the WWAN is started properly are about fifty-fifty) or clicking WWAN off and on in flight mode options of Windows.  Maybe someone has an idea other than waiting for Microsoft to fix this stupid 1607? Thanks and best regards,Martin  Log Name:      SystemSource:        Microsoft-Windows-NDISDate:          10.10.2016 06:37:19Event ID:      10317Task Category: PnPLevel:         ErrorKeywords:      (16384),(16),(4),(2)User:      ... HelloI have a W541 running Windows 7 (64bit). I've found 'Sierra Wireless GNSS Sensor EM7345 4G LTE' appearing with exclamation mark icon in the device manager. Lenovo solution center also shows it as disabled device. I have downloaded and installed latest driver (2.17.10870.4454). After installation the device seems fine in device manager but as soon as I restart the notebook the device appears again disabled in the device manager. I?ve just found in the README file the W541 is not listed as supported model by Windows 7. According to this file W541 is supported by W8 or W10 but unfortunately I?m not able to install any other OS on the laptop. Can I expect to have support for W541 with W7 in a future software release? ThanksZoltan

I'm having the same problem with my Sierra Wireless 7345 on a W550s running Windows 10. It came with the laptop, so I'm sure it's supposed to be compatibile. I think it's a driver compatibility problem. Unfortunately, I've just chalked it up to the "Windows/Lenovo" tax - some things work, others just don't. I've gotten no reponse from Lenovo.

HelloI got a totally new T450s with Windows 7 preinstalled. I did immediately an updgrade to Windows 10. Now the Sierra cellular modem is not working properly after inserting a SIM card (which works fine on another laptop). It says "Cellular No Service". The driver that is installed is "generic mobile broadband adapter" and not the Sierra Driver. I downloaded the lates Sierra Driver from the Lenovo website and installed it. Without success, it always installs the "generic mobile broadband adapter".Anyone any idea? ThanksAlexander Avidan

Answer:t450s Sierra Wireless EM7345 not working after upgrade to Windows 10

Welcome, Alexander Do you see broadband item on the cellular settings pane? The most likely cause of issue is APN setting missing in the connection profile. What is your operator name and what profile settings do you see?Win10 doesn't need modem manufacturer drivers for broadband access only, it uses built-in drivers. Also, there are default connection profile settings in the OS. If your operator is missing in that base or connection profile settings differ, you should edit profile on the cellular pane under administrative privileges.Anyway, I'm not sure em7345 modem in the Device Manager's "Network adapters" category in the win10 with OS built-in drivers installed should look like "generic mobile broadband adapter".

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

Hello! I have a T450s with a Sierra EM7345. After a vanilla installation of Windows 10 and Update 1607 I don't get a stable connection with 3G/HDSPA/LTE to O2 with this card. I have used the latest drivers 2.25.10910 and software 2.21.10890. The card shows firmware FIH7160_V1.2_WW_01.1528.04. Energy-Option is set to maximum performance. The connection to O2 is established very quickly, but I have a plenty of time-outs over this card.Does anybody have the same problem or has a solution? Thanks Axel

Since it is listed in the official parts-list for the W540: Yes. However, you will need a Lenovo branded card (04X6014, which is the Sierra Wireless EM7345 LTE/HSPA+ 42Mbps M.2 Card).

Hi all,I've really been helped by this forum in the past, and really hope you can help with this issue.I've installed the card and installed the driver - all of which has gone down without a hitch. The compute recognises the card with no issues. Unfortunately, however, when a simcard is inserted it does not register the simcard whatsoever - 'Insert sim' is still present. In my searches on this forum it seems this problem is Windows 10 specific - the system does recognise the wireless card but does not recognise the simcard reader. Anecdotally, it seems to work for others when using Windows 7 (although that wouldn't be a fantastic solution in my situation.)Is there any solution for this?Thank you in advance for your time and any responses!Jack

Hello, jraynerwin10 doesn't need wwan card's manufacturer drivers for the normal mobile connection, it has a native support that. Additional drivers are needed for the legacy location features via NMEA port, for the custom wwan card virtual devices configuration (like NDIS port etc). So, the 1st thought modem firmware is outdated. Check it out:open command prompt window (cmd) and type in the following stringnetsh mbn sh cap int=*Copy and past an output here (remove Device ID for your privacy).Another version is connection settings, APN mainly. Do you see a cellular network item in the win10 network settings?Anyway, I hope mobile device em7345 is present in the Device Manager w/out errors.

I upgraded my Helix Gen 2 to Windows 10 with few problems except for the Sierra WWAN interface to Windows 10 settings. The cellular button on the wireless menu is greyed out and the cellular option page in settings shows no devices. The adapter setting shows the adapter, and on the Settings, Network & Internet , Airplane mode page show both Mobile broadband and Wi-Fi buttons. WWAN can be enabled by truning off Wi-Fi and turning on Mobile broadband on Airplane Mode settings page. With these settings, I can connect to WWAN Verizon and get to internet but:1. Settings, Network & Internet , Cellular shows no connections2. Wireless pop up menu shows Cellular and Mobile Hotspot greyed out. So, in summary, I can connect to WWAN, but only via Settings, Network & Internet , Airplane mode page using proceedure above. By the way, my upgrade to Win 10, switched on the rotation lock, but I was able to fix that in Win 10 settings in table mode.

Hi aschulte,

If you have a W541 then you need the driver for the EM7355 card; that's what should be in the system unless the parts list and psref are mistaken.

I have a T440 with Sierra LTE. It works just fine for connecting to mobile networks. But here in New Zealand, one of our providers also provides free wifi hotspots to customers on certain plans. In order to use this though, I have to enter a password that is sent to me by SMS.Is there any way that I can view SMS messages sent to the SIM card that is inside my laptop? At the moment, I have to remove the SIM from my ThinkPad (with all the hassle that involves), stick it into my phone, get the password, then transfer the SIM card back into my ThinkPad (and often as not, there is no power socket nearby, so I can't restart because I had to disable the internal battery when removing/replacing the SIM card). So, if someone can point to a way that I can simply view those SMS messages on my ThinkPad, I will be enernally grateful.

Hello Support Forum: I performed that recent bios update to the X1 Carbon recently. The problem I'm experiencing, is the power button has a solid green light and it wont turn on when I press it. The only way to get my laptop to boot is to let the battery drain and die (I know this when the green light is out), plug the ac adapter in and turn it on that way. The problem will persist when I try to shut it down again.   Any thoughts? Thank you guys, I appreciate any help, I use my personal laptop for work.

I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 20BS. I installed openSUSE Tumbleweed into it. I had momentarily GPS data coming to /dev/ttyACM0. Then it stopped and I can't find a way to re-enable GPS. I am noteven exactly sure was it only "AT+XLCSLSR=1,1,,,,,1,,,,,", which enabled it. Everything else worked fine except mobile broadband connection speed was not reliably set. I had to dig into AT commands to have that fixed, so  no issue there anymore. I used Putty for connecting to /dev/ttyACM0. This worked out of the box with openSUSE Tumbleweed! For some reason connection is somewhat unresponsive and does not reliably deliver commands to EM7345. I haven't figured out what is causing that. EM7345 has firmware FIH7160_XMM7160_V1.2_MBIM_GNSS_NAND_REV_4.5 2014-Jun-5 11:54:58   *FIH7160_V1.2_WW_01.1415.07*, which I believe is the latest. I had for few moments XLCSLSR producing GPS location data. Now AT+XLCSLSR? or AT+XLCSLSR=1,1,,,,,1,,,,, only produce ERROR. NowAT%GPS?%GPS: 1  0 0 0 0 0.00000 0.00000 0 AT%XLCSTEST+CME ERROR: 4 Rebooting whole laptop or EM7345 with at+CFUN=16 does not help. Is there a reset command for EM7345?  I found out that there possibly is such command: AT!RMARESET=<arg>, but it requires AT!ENTERCND="<password>", but I don't have that password. What should I try out next to get GPS working?

Hey everyone,  Just got my X1 Carbon in the mail Friday and I've been screwing around getting it just the way I like it since. One major thing I've noticed is that the SSD only has 98.7GB total on it, 70 something of which is usable after OS files. Is there something I'm missing here in terms of overall capacity? I double checked that on my order it does say 128GB SSD and can't imagine why there would be less than 119GB that's why I'm writing this post. Thanks in advance!

How's the partition layout? You can check in Disk Management.Chances are there's a few recovery partitions taking up the missing space.

You can also enable NTFS drive compression for some (almost) free space.

HiIf you'e planning to use em7355 in the Italy LTE networks, that card doesn't support them and frequency bands they work in. It's, mainly, for the North America networks, supports CDMA/EV-DO networks and the part of UMTS/HSPA+ (3g) European bands only.Ericsson n5321 is a 3g card (DL speed up to 21 Mbps), doesn't support LTE capabilities. So, if you want LTE for x1c gen2, you have to get another card, Sierra em7345 with Lenovo p/n (FRU).

Yesterday I got some drivers updates along with BIOS update. BIOS seems to update successful (now its 1.14), everything under BIOS works. I had 2 OS: win10 and Ubuntu with grub. I've been a happy user of all these for several months, but... The problem is that after some driver update (which was done via Lenovo utility for Win10) I cannot boot any OS nor any OS installation even! Recovery ISOs, diagnostic tools... Nothing can be booted. BTW, I know how to deal with Secure boot and legacy mode. I can manage to start the boot process of anything listed above, but they all behave the same. They freeze in the very beggining. Everything which involves ACPI just hangs on boot. Linux hangs after message "ACPI tables successfully requested" or smth like this. Win10 displays dots which go round 1 second and then hangs. If I add "acpi=off" to Linux boot options, it boots (but almost nothing works there without acpi support). Things which don't require ACPI work. For example, I can boit BIOS update ISOS. Still it does no help as my BIOS version is the latest and it doesn't allow to rollback. It can't be hardware problem as it occured after Windows updated drivers and flashed some firmware (not BIOS, but I don't know what it was exactly). I can access data on SSD and can see some logs if needed. Hope for assistance How to flash again all possible laptop firmware from boot USB? What can be flashed except BIOS?

Answer:X1 Carbon (Gen3 20BS) cannot boot NOTHING but BIOS

I tried to use hard reset... Hold that tiny button on the bottom for 30sec approx. Now it doesn't switch on at all o_O Just no reaction on power button. With or without AC. Not even on long press. What shall I do now?Lenovo, what's wrong with your devices? Why can user brick a device just using reset button?!?! Now I cannot even get my data from the SSD... **bleep** it!

As the title says, I need a programmatical/software method to control the keyboard's backlight, in windows. In linux, I am able to turn OFF the keyboard backlight with...echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/tpacpi\:\:thinklight/brightness However, You CANNOT turn it ON.  This does nothing.echo 255 > /sys/class/leds/tpacpi\:\:thinklight/brightness In windows, the hotkey utility shows an overlay whenever the backlight is changed.  So messaging IS handled somehow. Lenovo, we need this functionality.  It is crucial that we have absolute control over our own devices.FN+Space to turn on a light is NOT enough. I'm looking for ACPI / WMI / Python / C++  Answers if possible.  Thank you.

Just powered up my brand new X1 Carbon for the first time (an upgrade from my T61, so I'm familiar, at least, with how the touchpad SHOULD be able to handle), I'm already having issues, and I'm not familiar enough with the machine/Windows 10 to know what's what.As soon as I turned Cortana off, I went to adjust the touchpad settings. But I got an error message immediately as I clicked additional mouse settings: "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver."Closing the error message brings up the Mouse Properties window that I expected, but also triggers "Windows Shell Common Dll had stopped working" So I close THAT, and I'm back at square one.Searching for Synaptics Pointing Device Driver on Lenovo.com doesn't bring up anything. There's this for a Touchpad Driver, that's compatible with the X1 20BS, and several Pointing Device Drivers for other machines, but there's no specific Pointing Device Driver for Windows 10 AND an X1.Is the Touchpad driver the correct one, or is there an X1 specific driver that I need (and, clearly, can't find)? As an added bonus, the keyboard itself is oddly non-responsive - it's not that any of the keys feel stuck, it's just that striking them has about a 50% chance of them registering. Could that be related to this touchpad nonsense, or might it be a seperate issue?Sorry for the longwindedness. I never would've guessed that  my first issue with a new computer would just be getting the touchpad adjusted.

Hello, I just recently performed the 26-Jul BIOS update to 1.14, for my Thinkpad Carbon X1 (20BS) with windows 10.The update went ok, but afterwards, Windows is crashing when booting. Using a bootable Windows 10 installation disk also crashes when booting. The recovery environment also crashes when booting. Using detailed logs, it seems to crash when activating the ACPI microcontroller. I would assume that has something to do with the UEFI update, that I have disabled in the BIOS. Enabling it does not recognise the disk, as it is not a GPT partition. I tried to rollback the BIOS, but it does not allow it.  Do you have any suggestion on how to proceeed? Thanks,Pedro

X1 Carbon 3rd Gen, Windows 10 64 bit. After upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, everything worked fine. But then I upgraded my SSD, and after everything was installed there, the only thing not working is the fingerprint sensor, even though it worked (and still works) on the old SSD. I have updated the driver, and even though there's a newer one out there, the only one the system accepts as up to date is 4.5.317.0. However, the device doesn't work. I have removed the device entirely from the device manager so that Win10 reinstalled it, I have deleted and reinstalled the driver. I doubt it's a Win10 issue, since it works fine on my original SSD running the same OS, and others have noted that it works flawlessly with Windows Hello.  Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Earlier this year, I experienced a serious display flickering issue and the eventual full-blown display failure on my X1 Carbon (2015 20BS). The keyboard bezel around the display hinge (specifically the left one when you face the screen), is extremely sensitive to any amount of finger pressure. On top of that, the bottom of the laptop close to the hinge is just as sensitive to touch as well.  These sensitive areas can cause the display to stop working intermintently (off and on). Eventually, after about a week or so, the display would stop working all together. Since my X1 Carbon was just out of warranty, I had to send it to IBM for repair. The cost is $700, not including shipping and state + city taxes (about $50 worth). Initially I thought, maybe it was stress from carrying it around daily inside a laptop carrying case (I mean, X1 Carbon being a ultrabook..super portable right?). So now, after the repair, I actually treat this X1 Carbon way better than I do with my Apple Macbook Pro. In fact, the X1 Carbon is on house arrest, permanently sitting on my office desk. Fast forward a couple months since the repair, out of blue today, I decided to lower the audio volume, and I suddenly noticed a screen flicker. "Oh c*ap!" thought in my head.  Lo and behold, yep, the hinge trouble is back again without me ever putting any unsual stress on this ultrabook!. I am at a loss on what to do. At this point, if I spend anohter $700 on this repair, I might... Read more

So this is my second X1 Carbon and I had no problems whatsoever with the first one. With this one the problems started after I upgraded to Windows 10: more and more frequent BSODs, sometimes 10/day. I upgraded all the drivers, ran sfc /scannow, used also the DISM resotre health command, no issues found and it still gives me every now and then the blue screen.  What I also noticed is that when it's not plugged in, so relying only on battery, video and sound playback is very choppy and performance slows down. Again, I found no fault with the video drivers and they're the latest version. What am I to do with this one?

My new X1 Carbon came in today. I'm working through the setup and I have an issue. I have my trackbad buttons set as default, where the middle button is set to cause a scroll when clicked. About 25% of the time, when I release the middle button, it also causes a right-click. Obviously, this is very annoying. I have latest driver installed. Any ideas on how to prevent the right-click on release?

Answer:X1 Carbon (20BS) Middle Mouse Button Causes Right Click

Hi bmzero,

Is your TouchPad enabled? Is it possible your finger or some part of your hand is making contact with it when you middle click?

If you can reproduce the right click by steadily clicking on the middle button, I would call it in for warranty repair.

Hope this helps!

Yesterday I installed the firmware update for the 20BS Carbon X1 2015 and ran into a number of issues: 1) The BCD Store for the Windows Boot Manager is corrupted causing BitLocker to fail with "System cannot find the path specified" error on the last step trying to enable Bitlocker. Resuming BitLocker on an existing drive fails too. Tried a number of things already to fix it, but so far haven't found any solution except to turn off bitlocker drive encryption (Windows 8.1 Pro) Any hints towards sovind this are helpful. Already tried Windows Statup repair (no dice, bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, bootrec /rebuildbcd). Windows is able to start just fine at the moment, so not in immediate problems. Maybe the imminent Windows 10 upgrade will allow me to just pave over this.  2) The new "Legacy F1-F12" feature in the firmware settings doesn't work correctly. Turning it on breaks the behavior of the Insert and Delete keys. It looks like they switch their behavior. I've found a couple of other posts in the forums for different types of thinkpads with similar issues. I have the following items updated/installed:Hotkey package 5.6 <- Is that what's meant by "Lenovo Base utility"?Lenovo Power Management Driver <- available download is slightly older than required version according to readme. Instead of turning this on in the firmware I've opted to turn this on in Windows (Keyboard settngs).  3) had to use the "reset pin" at the ... Solved one of the problems, th eone where I need to have the power adapter connected to start. I went into the BIOS and under Power chose to disconnect the power supply. This turns off the laptop completely. For good measure I pressed the reset button at the bottom with a needle and afterwards the issues with booting on battery went away.

This morning, I'm working on downloading available BIOS updates related to Meltdown/Spectre, and creating bootable USB keys with the updates for each model computer that we use.  I've downloaded the update for the 20BS from here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-X-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-... According to the readme file, this update should include a tool for making a bootable USB key to install the update, but the tool and the "Instruction US - BIOS flash USB memory key.txt" file referenced in the readme both seem to be missing from the download.   Please advise how to create a bootable USB for installing this bios update.

Both of my USB ports are not working after upgrading to Windows 10. I tried them with thumb drive and USB mouse, both can be found as connected device, but indicates missing driver. Both devices can work properly on other machines. Bios and all the drivers are all updated to the latest version. Lenovo Download page has USB3.0 driver for windows 7 and 8.1 only, nothing for Windows 10.  I called technical support, but it was not helpful at all. They just checked update using Lenovo Companion and went to the Download page to look for driver, which I have done myself before calling them. And the only suggestion I got is to downgrade to Windows 8. It is clearly that Lenovo should release USB3.0 driver for Windows 10. I asked the technical support person if there is anyway to report this issue to Lenovo to releasea new driver. I was surprised that he seems to have no access to provide feedback to Lenovo, and I was told filled up the "website satisfaction survey" to report this myself.  Since this is a 3rd Gen machine bought just 3 month ago, and I see this machine is now sale with Windows 10 installed, I don't think it should be unsupportive to Windows 10. Please let me know if there is a better place to report this or get help with this issue.

Hi, as far as I'm concerned, Windows 10 allows Mac-like gestures, such as three-finger swipes for bringing up the task view etc. Where can I set this up? The currently installed synapics touchpad settings do not allow Windows 10 specific settings. Thanks for any help. Best,Ben

Answer:How to enable Mac-like gestures for touchpad with X1 Carbon (20BS) running Windows 10

What I've figured out so far is that the driver of the touchpad must somehow register the touchpad as a "precision touchpad" ro work with Windows 10. However, I cannot find any driver updates for the touchpad to work with windows 10. No one has an idea? The gestures are key to Windows 10.

Answer:Confirm which of these is compatible with the Lenovo X1 Carbon 3Gen, 20BS type

Good day and welcome to the community.

The Gen3 Carbon does not support NVMe. That was introduced in the Gen4.
The AHCI drive may/should work, but I'm not 100% positive. I seem to recall some discussion in the community about specific PCIe AHCI models having difficulty. If I find the discussion, I'll edit this post.

Edit to add: A member reports success with the XP941 here >>> https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Carbon-X1-Gen3-SSD-questions/m-p/2049203

Hi,I just bought a Thinkpad X1 Carbon 20BS with Windows 7 and the sound quality in headphones is just terrible. No bass and a lot of strange noices. I updated the bios via BIOS update utility and also installed the realtek HD audio driver. It had almost no effect. I tried uninstalling the drivers and using the default Windows drivers which gave even worse sound quality. I don't have the Dolby* tools installed and I also uninstalled Realtek Audio manager and only updated the driver manually. I also tried drivers from realtek.com directly with no luck. Any ideas what else should I try?Thank you!

I have been encountering this issue for sometime , specially when i travel. When I shutdown by laptop and try to power ON again without the AC cord, it will not power ON. Then I have to connect it to the AC outlet, when the power button lights up with Green. If I disconnect the Power cord after that, the laptop will still power ON with the battery. The battery is fully charged.  This problem is intermittent, but is happenning more often now, hence I like to know if this issue can be resolved just by resetting the laptop or is this a hardware/configuration issue. I have Windows 10 running on the system.

UPDATE June 11th 2015 The issuw was solved through install different drivers via "Lenovo - Update and Drivers", especially installing the Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro. Hi everyone, I have a peculiar issue with the Synaptics driver on Windows 10 (Build 14393.693) Apparently every time the laptop goes to sleep, the option for 4-finger swipe to switch virtual desktops gets automatically disabled. Users have been facing a similar issue on other laptops with the 3 finger-swipe not working & have been able to fix it by restarting one of the services running in the background or modifying the registry.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Windows-10-gestures-with-Synaptics-touchpad/td-p/2140422 Unfortunately I have not been able to find a solution for the problem with the 4-finger option.Does anyone else face the same issue? Thank you!

Hi there I just bought a new Thinkpad x1 carbon with Windows 7 operating system. The battery percentage icon is not appearing once I did update the Windows. I tried to solve that by right clicking on the battery icon and then choosing the "show battery percenatage remaining" choice but unfortunately not working... How this could be solved? Any idea... Thanks

Answer:Battery percentage icon is not appeaing - x1 Thinkpad carbon 20BS- Windows 7

The battery gauge is part of Power Manager.
Try this:
1.  Open Control Panel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program
2.  Uninstall "Power Manager"
3.  Reboot
4.  Install latest version of "Power Manager" from here:  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds014924

If I go into Hard Disk1 Password I can select user and master passwords. What passwords should I set and how difficult should the passwords be? I want to protect the data without making it too difficult for the client to use his new laptop. Can the passwords all be the same? Is there a step by step procedure for setting up encryption on the laptop? Thanks,Alan

Answer:X1 Carbon type 20BS frequent BSOD in win10 and video playback issues when on battery

Please state your BSOD stop code.  That would help.

Dear Thinkpad X Forum, here it is Michi, an old user of all kind of Thinkpad. In the last 5 years I have had the X1 Carbon (1st and 2nd Generation) and X1 Yoga (1st generation). After a very unfortunately repair in my X1 yoga (only 18 months old but suffered 4 onsite repairs with the only result that two LCD screen were broken, hinges not working and battery not able to work on a reliable manner), I decided to move to a X1 Carbon 5th Generation. Info regarding the new laptop:- 20HRCTO1WW- Received on january 4th 2018 (should have been produced in the last week of 12/2017), directly shipped from PRC-WWAN: Sierra 7455 ISSUE:1) tried to insert the MICRO-SIM I had on my the X1 Yoga. It was not recognized, in fact it is still showing "Insert SIM"2) Tried the MICRO-SIM again on my X1 Yoga: it works fine. Tried it in a couple of cells: works fine.3) I checked extensively that forum and found a lot of tread mentioning problems with the SIERRA 7455 WWAN4) Just check Lenovo updates. I have installed the following update:Sierra Wireless EM7455 Software for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad7.47.4743.01052017/10/16 5) Just restarted the computer and check it again. I have this rather irritating problem in that whenever I install the drivers/software for my sierra airport 595u card, it kills the usb host controllers. By kill, I mean I get "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39) errors. This is on both my laptop and desktop I've tried this on. I don't even have the device plugged in when installing, but when I reboot this happens. Uninstalling the software doesn't work, only system restore before the install or format and re-install. I tried comparability mode for vista, no go.

Answer:Incompatability with Sierra Wireless?

Quick update. Apparently the drivers can be loaded if you do it manually. The device won't actually connect without the sprint pcs connection manager's services running. As near as I can tell, running them causes the computer to be unable to re-start any usb style devices. Any ideas?

I've installed Sierra MC8355 drivers on Windows 10 64-bit. Drivers installed successfully, Network connections show new 'Cellular' connection, Device manager shows new Sierra 8355 devices which have drivers installed. So it looks like everything is ok with drivers (Windows 8.1 drivers) on Windows 10. My question is - what should I install to be able to use that 3G and GPS? How can I perform a 3G connection and run GPS tracking? I tried software for Windows 7 - it failed.

Answer:Sierra Wireless MC8355 on Windows 10

Hi and welcome, OxeliPlease, clarify: aren't you able to establish 3g connection using win10 mobile broadband features? What are the symptoms? To enable GPS capabilities, reinstall the drivers with option GPS=1 in the setup command line (note, use the setup installer, not the drivers package). Or, if there is configuration file in the folder where drivers are being extracted, change appropriate settings within it.

That is usually done via the Connection Manger software supplied by an ISP.  I have no idea what is supplied with a 7667-CTO, but the Sierra Wireless generic Connection Manager (on the Sierra web site) might work.

Hi - I've got a Lenovo Thinkpad X300 with an OEM Sierra Wireles MC8775 HSDPA card, driver 2.0.9.0, 1/11/2007. It has worked fine except in two instances: first when traveling from the US to Switzerland, upon arrival it "failed to initialize" the device as I tried to run the dialer. This was true despite cold restarts. About a day later it started working, and working consistently, in Switzerland. Upon return to the US exactly the same phenomenon: unable to initialize for about a day. Then, working fine.Lenovo is ready to replace the card, but does anyone know if this is a software or other glitch for which I shouldn't trouble them? Something having to do with switching countries?  (And do I appear to be running the latest firmware/drivers? Firmware is H1_1_9_3MCAP.) Thanks,JZ

Answer:Sierra Wireless AT&T WWAN issue

To follow up for any that come later: the card was replaced, but experienced the same phenomenon in going to the Netherlands and back again to the US.  This time I downloaded and ran the "Sierra Wireless Watcher."  After the wireless radio was turned on it sat at "searching..." for about five minutes, then found the new band.  Once found it sticks, so the regular Lenovo dialer can then be used.  So it's not a hardware problem, and there's a solution.  ...JZ
