Preferred Solution: Firmware Problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Firmware Problem

Where are you finding that 1.03 firmware version? When I look here, I only see 1.00.

Also, why are you trying update the firmware? I never update firmware unless it addresses a problem I am experiencing.

I am trying to coble together two non-working Zen Xtras into a working one. I receive a message: "Firmware Problem," and am instructed to reload the firmware. When I attempt to do so, the firware does not recognize the device although the device shows up in My Computer as a Zen Xtra. I have reloaded the drivers. When I attempt to reinstall the firmware, it states that it cannot detect the device and please connect it now. How do I resolve this lack of recognition?

Is it possible to replace a routers firmware w/ something other than the original firmware to update from wep encryption to wpa encryption and all the other features that these new routers have? If so is this hard to do and is there a big risk or really screwing things up?

Answer:Replacing router Firmware w/ third party Firmware?

nope its easy, and as long as your smart and follow the few basic guildlines very unlikely chance of damaging the router. Biggest suggestion is never do the update via wireless as if you loss signal or what not could loose a bit of data for the router update.

Well, I've had this computer since august, and no problems like this. On the 20th, my keyboard and mouse, along with all the other USB devices were unresponsive in Windows. Now, it is NOT a hardware problem. Of this, I am certain. All USB devices work fine without fault in the BIOS and in the recovery options. Now, I tried to do system restore to the 18th, even though no programs would be affected. So, no change. Then after a while, I restored to the 12th, the affected programs were:

Google Chrome (Update)
GIMP
nVidia G-Sync Pendulum Demo

Windows utilised all USB devices fine. I could login and enter passwords, you know, all that keyboard-y stuff.

So, GIMP and the demo were just uninstalled. But the Chrome obviously stayed. Now, when I tried plugging my iPhone into my PC (today), my keyboard and mouse suddenly stopped working. The computer made weird sounds too, like the device kept connecting and disconnecting. A restore to the same day (26th) @ ~4:30 GMT -00 solved the problem. I'm not really sure how it put a recovery point here, as the PC was asleep at this time, but whatever. But it was the same version of chrome that was being uninstalled in the restore that fixed the problem, I'm fairly sure.

Now, obviously, frequently doing system restore is not an appropriate solution to the problem. I can't remember the version of chrome that was in the restore window (it was about 12 characters long), but if you could direct me to a log in windows if it exists where the affecte... Read more

Hi there,
Im having problems with an old Maxtor Fireball 3 40GB hard drive that all of the sudden became unreadable by the computer. The BIOS identifies the drive, but using a custom factory name for the drive.

The problem is i need to recover files from the disk. After some searching, i found that the problem is most likely firmware related and thus i need to update the firmware or some boot records.

Does anyone know how to do this and where to get the firmware needed?

Answer:VERY peculiar USB firmware(?) problem.

Download Chrome from their website. https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95346?hl=en

Maybe the latest update/version via automatic download somehow was corrupted.
And a clean install will solve your problem.

Ok, so heres the problem,

I have a Matshita UJ-840D cd / dvd writer drive on my Sony Vaio VGN-FS640W.
(Yes I know the drive is a piece of ****!!! please don't remind me of that)

Anyway, I installed the recent firmware upgrade (v.1.04) on the sony support website and since then, my drive is near dead. The LED blinks, the drivers are installed fine and have been re-installed several times.

CDs and DVDs are detected however they not read however they show up blank when they are opened.

also, when I put in my windows xp cd and reboot, the cd is not booted into. (I checked the bios settings, they were fine)

all of these worked perfect when I had my v.1.03 firmware installed and my questions mainly are:

1) How can I fix this problem?
2) How can I revert back to the v.1.03 firmware?
3) Is there anything else I can do to make this all work!!!?? lol

Thanks a lot for any help!

Hi all - just bought a second-hand PC, wanting to install a new OS from CD. Changed the boot order from '1st - HDD, 2nd - nothing, 3rd - nothing' to '1st - floppy, 2nd - CD/DVD, 3rd - HDD'. Popped in the CD, rebooted and left it to go - not noticing the floppy in the drive... turned out to be a boot floppy to flash the Maxtor firmware. I now have a PC that can't see the (only) HDD installed, although the BIOS seems to see it as a 'Maxtor SABRE' but won't boot from it. I've subsequently seen other support forums referring to problems with these disks and certain motherboards, the usual solution being to flash the disk firmware and / or motherboard BIOS, however I can't seem to find anything specific to my new setup (below). My questions are has anyone had a similar experience, how did you resolve it, where can I get updated firmware for the HDD (not the Maxtor website it seems), or just any help / guidance really...

MB: Asus P4C800-E Bios ver 08.00.09 (1016) 23/02/04
HDD: Maxtor Diamondmax 10 300GB SATA150 - current firmware BANC1BY0

Running Windows Insider build 16188 and the system keeps calling for restart to update firmware but computer has been restarted three times already. Device Manager shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it by Firmware. The update is for 4.0.13 firmware which is what is already installed. What do I do to fix this?

Answer:Firmware update problem.

The device manager firmware entry will usually show the build number for a driver version.  This may be part of the UEFI firmware from the System Bios but did you get a notice to update from Dell?
We will need to know the exact model number of your system so we can check the Bios version.  Do not give the Service Tag.
I am no longer in the Win 10 Insider Program so can't help much.

Do you have "Record Now"? If not look in the "IBMTOOLS" folder for an installer.

Hi I have an IBM Thinkpad T43 with a 40Gb HD.  The HD died a couple of weeks ago, so I bought an identical (as far as I can tell) refurbished model: HTS541040G9AT00. When I installed the new HD, I got the following error message on start up: ERROR2010: Warning: Your internal hard disk drive (HDD) may not functioncorrectly on this system.  Ensure that your HDD is supported on thissystem and that the latest HDD firmware is installed.Press <Esc> to continue I can press escape and continue but when I try to install XP it freezes at the 33 minutes to go mark (which I understand is caused by hardware problems. I contacted Hitachi who pointed me to the firmware update on this site, which I have tried to do by making a bootable CD.  When I run this however, it says that I do not need a firmware update?!?! Does anybody have any ideas??  I'm at my wits end with it...Message Edited by base on 03-14-2009 03:11 AM  UPDATE: I've checked and the old HD has firmware MB2IA5BJ which it says DOES need to be updated to the latest firmware.  I assume from this that it's the latest firmware that it has a problem with.  Can anyone tell me how I can get my new HD to an older version of the firmware which my laptop will approve of??? Any help greatly appreciated...!Message Edited by base on 03-14-2009 03:40 AM

Answer:T43 HD Firmware Update Problem

Welcome to the forum! I have yet to see a drive on which a firmware update actually works, and I've owned dozens of T43/p units... You can purchase a Fujitsu 100 or 120GB drive if you can find one, they are the only non-OEM drives that don't trigger the "2010 error". However, your machine should not freeze... More on this subject matter: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11059 Good luck and keep us posted.

Help please!I am running a PC with Windows Home XP SP2.I attempted a firmware upgrade to my Creative Zen mp3 playerupgrade ver 2.11.01. - the problem is, that as a result of attempting to run the firmware upgrade it claims my player is NOT connected, however, the player is recognised by my pC on connection via USB. Needless to say, the player itself is now wiped, enters recovery mode on reboot and claims a 'firmware problem'.Details as follows:I attempted the upgrade via a link from within Windows Media Player's help. The firmware software ZenTouchP4S_PCFW_LB_2_11_01.exe is saved in my PC'c 'Received Files' folder and appears to run properly in that it runs a wizard which stalls and displays a dialogue claiming 'Your player is not connected, please connect your player'. Except, I can see the player is connected via usb, which worked perfectly well before I started. Also the player is recognised within my pc's 'my computer' and also through 'hardware manager' (which says the device is working properly! The player itself boots up into 'recovery mode' with 4 options. I have attempted running all 4 options - option 3 (reload firmware) looks to be the favourite option, but it takes me back into the above loop of 'device not connected'.I have re-booted device and pc several times. Help please! This is a brilliant device working fully (and very well) up to now.

I have a linksys BEFSR41 router and I updated the firmware to the latest version and now I am having email and web page problems.

My pc's with windows XP work fine..email and web pages work fine.

My 98 and me computers can't send emails or connect to some web pages. Other web pages come up fine.

I have called tech support about 5-6 times and tried many things with no results.

I have changed the MTU with 5 different sizes with no results.
Tried setting up the DNS on the pc itself with no luck
played with the port range forwarding by adding 110 25 113 and 80 with no luck.
Added 25, 110,25,143 to the port triggering settings with no luck either.

They are sending an older version of firmware but I was having problems accessing some sites with the older version with all my pc's so I feel I am kinda stuck. Tech support is not that good as every time I call...I get a different answer and the people barely speak english.
HELP!!!

THANKS!

Is the drive recognized in My Computer? If not uninstall and re-install it , after checking proper connection and settings to the drive.
If it is recognized by the Computer, then make sure you are logged on as Administrator; turn off all running program Anti virus , screen savers etc.
And try the update again.

I bought the RCA lyra RD2760 Mp3 player some time ago and can not find anywhere to download the ORIGINAL firmware to get the device working. The disc that came with the package (Cd music managment) is supposed to have all you need to get the player to work. I no longer have the disc, so right now teh player is completely useless. I have emailed RCA but have not yet gotten a response.

I never used the CD, so its like buying the player and trying to use it without and firmware/drivers. When i plug it in, the screen turns of as i should, but the computer will not recognize the device. the lyra website only offers upgrades to the original firmware that comes with the CD.

Any suggestions on how to get the thing working, or a site with downloads to the original CD would be greaty appreciated !

thanks much

can anyone break that down for me? does it mean the BIOS is corrupting memory when coming out of standby?

Hi

I have an Asus RT-N56U router. Its currently running a fairly old firmware version (1.0.1.7f). I have tried on numerous occasions to upgrade the firmware as per the Asus instructions but I always run in to the same problem - basically, the web interface 'loses' all its options...take a look at the image below to see what I mean.

The only way to regain functionality is to downgrade the firmware to 1.0.1.7f.

At first the upgrade seem to succeed, but its only when I start reconnecting switches etc that the problem occurs.

Any help on solving this would be appreciated.

My thinkpad is X230t 3437-A37.

I found that there may be some performance problem while using its original factory SSD (Crucial C400-MTFDDAK256MAM),
I can met random no-responding problem while do reading / writing to this SSD,
but Crucial's official firmware update software is not available on this SSD.
and, the Crystal Disk Info could read barely nothing from this SSD:

Will Lenovo provide its firmware update program? (It could be better if it supports Windows 8 x64)

P.S.: Could this laptop have its warranty service in Canada and the United States without registering IWS?

Hi,
in my Toshiba Satellite R20 (tablet) DVD Recorder (Pioneer) was accidentally flashed with the incorrect firmware by the previous user (I work in the company and this Tablet came to me aleady as used one).
Now when powering on, CD-ROM ERROR appears for a while, then Window boots normally from HDD. In Windows, I can't see the optical drive - first I have to suspend system, and then, after wake up, the DVD Drive is recognised and installed but works only in PIO mode. I have seen that the model number displayed is incorrect (DVR-K16 and should be DVR-K16TBR as it is desrcibed on the drive).
Is there any possibility to obtain the original firmware and to reflash the drive by myself?

regards,

T. Trojan

Answer:Satellite R20 DVD-Recorder problem (firmware needed)

Hi,

You can?t reflash the drive by yourself, this can only an ASP (authorized service provider) but I?m not sure, if this possible.

The best way is you contact an ASP and ask them. Here you can search for one:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Find an ASP

In the worst case the drive must be replaced.

Tell me what happened, I?m interested in.

Bye

According to Energy Management, battery status is fine.  After searching similar issues, I think it may be a problem with firmware, but I was not able to find a firmware update for IdeaPad series, Windows 8.1.... I have been using my laptop over a year, but never had this problem before. Can you please guide me through how to fix this issue?  Thanks for your help..!

Hello.
I have been having a problem updating the firmware on my TRENDnet TEW-432BRP wireless router. When I try to update the firmware by going to the device webpage, I click on 'firmware' and click 'browse' to select the firmware file, the internet browser freezes and crashes. Any Ideas?
Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Router firmware update problem

Doesn't make much sense to me; as soon as you click on 'browse' it really has nothing to do with the router I think.

With your browser if you do File - Open File... - do you get the same crash? If yes you have some general browser problem. If you don't crash this way I have no idea what's going wrong, and would try a different browser.

FWIW I am using the same router and, at the moment, Firefox 10.0 in Windows XP SP3 and have no issues with 'browse' for a file.

When trying to download the update from

Brought this issue up a few days ago on Dell's Face page and they said everything is working fine. No it isn't. I don't have ANY problem downloading any other file - only this one. What's wrong and how can i fix it?

PS Sorry for my bad english .)

Answer:Satellite A200-23U - DVD-ROM problem after firmware update

You can try either to reflash the drive down to T02 OR you send the machine to an authorized service provider and they are fixing this problem.

Could you firstly check if the downgrade works?

I flashed my Linskys WRT54G with DD-WRT firmware (v.24) so that I could use the router as a wireless repeater for a signal whose origin is some distance away from the router.

It's working, but there's something strange about the signal. My download speed is something like 300 kbps, while my upload speed is 400 kbps. Why am I able to upload faster than I can download? Is there a DD-WRT setting that I should tweak?

Answer:WRT54G as Wireless Repeater Problem (DD-WRT Firmware)

Do you have the transmit and receive antenna on the same one, or on the left and right? You might try changing to either left or right. One might be getting better signal than the other.

Are you connecting wireless or wired? If wired, you might try using it as a client. If wireless, the repeater should work fine.

Not sure why it's not giving you full downloads... What kind of signal strength is it giving you?

If you're still in the 12-month warranty period they can replace it for you. Be warned, though, as they like to go around in circles when they give you diagnostic tips. They should eventually authorise a replacement, however.Just hope you've got your songs backed up somewhere =]

Hey people - new here but already i have a question or two.

I'm fairly new to m0n0wall and am trying to set it up mainly for NAT and as a hardware firewall in a dorm room.
Before moving I'd had m0n0 installed on the 8MB CF card for 6months+ as i was also messing with it, so i think it was a fairly old version. I had 3 NICs installed - i wanted an OPT incase i added a DMZ or something later - 2 identical and one of another brand, and they all used to be detected.

Once i'd had a play around at setting it up this time i saw the update firmware option and went ahead and downloaded the latest stable release (i don't think it was a beta, but maybe it was..) to my desktop and uploaded it. On rebooting only 2 "sis0" and "sis1" interfaces are detected, when i don't think any cards before were "sis-anything".
So i took out the CF card and tried loading a range of other "older versions" and still have the same thing, right back to 1.21

Any ideas why this is?

Answer:M0n0wall interface problem after firmware update

What NICs are you using? Most firewall distributions support a very limited range due to known issues or bad drivers. Are they no-name network cards or 3COM/Intel? If they are no-name cards you might want to try your hand at scooping up some cheap intel PRO/100 cards or some 3COM 3c905's from Ebay - there were several "lots" of both for under $20 when last I looked.

Lite-On LTR 48246S CDRW firmware upgrade problem

I have a Lite-On LTR 48246S CDRW drive and I want to upgrade the driver. However when I downloaded the driver file and clicked to run the file it says:

NO MATCH DRIVE Detected!
This Utility is only for Lite-ON LTR -48246S drive.

detected Drive:
1-0: LITE-ON LTR 48246s.
The first line says no match drive detected and the second line says the drive that it is detected. Confusing.
So, when I try to update my driver, thats what comes up. It wont let me install the driver, cause that error comes up before installation. I downloaded the driver from different providers just in case, and its still the same. Also, I only have one cd rom drive that came with my Gateway PC, and I opened it up and made sure the cable was attached properly (which it was) and still nothing. It used to burn cd's as well, but now it doesn't and I'm not sure why. So, I have no idea what to do here. Thoughts????

Our work got rid of a few laptops, and i brought a Sony VAIO VGN-BX61MN
The condition was we got rid of Vista Business and put a fresh system on it, which i got a friend to do (put Vista home premium on it).
Now in Device Manager, i have an unknown device. In its properties all it mentions is Location on Intel(RICH8M-LPC interface controller 2815
I have gone to the Intel site, and run the driver update there, but it discovers nothing and says all is fine.
I have run DriverMax (which i am a paying member) and that says, all is well, nothing Unknown.
If i try an update or reinstal from within Device manager, in the end i get 'Sony Firmware Extension Parser is missing a driver'.
I can not seem to find it anywhere.
Can anyone help please

Answer:Solved: Sony Firmware Extension Parser problem

I have done a fresh install again of Windows Vista Business, as that is what it had on it originally.

Still, the one driver missing is Sony Firmware Extension Parser......if i knew what it did (or doesnt do lol) i may not even worry about it.

I currently own a Thinkpad Helix, bought about two months ago. Up until now it has been well worth the price, and worked almost flawlessly. Just this morning, out of nowhere the keyboard and touchpad stopped working. I tried my usual solution, detaching and reattaching the dock, but it did nothing. I tried restarting my computer, and found that while it was plugged into the dock, I got a "Keyboard Dock Fan Error" and it would fail to start. I started looking around on these forums for answers, and it seems many people had the same problem I did. On one thread there seemed to be a link to this firmware update designed specifically to get rid of the problem I had. Upon installing it and running the application, it would freeze for about 5 seconds and then display this strange error message, "This tool and EC firmware mismatch, or communication error is happened." I can assure you I was connected to the internet at the time. So i looked at the readme, and it suggested updating the bios. When I tried that, it told me I already had the latest bios installed, and running the firmware update again afterwards gave the samw results. I don't know what to do, and i'd love some help on the matter.

Answer:Enhanced Keyboard Dock Firmware Update Problem

Can you verify what bios and keyboard firmware you have installed now?
The latest bios is version 1.14.

You can check this by rebooting and hitting F1. The versions should be listed. The keyboard firmware is listed as MPU I belive. Then just hit F10 to close it once you're done.

Answer:updating firmware problem with kaspersky virus protection

Hi tea_rioss, I'm not sure if i understand the problem. Are you having problem updating some kind of firmware while Kaspersky is running? Are you taking about the BIOS? Could you describe a bit more exactly what the problem are and if you see some errors please let us know what the error message is and what you are actually trying to do. It's a good idea to provide some info about your system like what kind of Thinkpad you got and what kind of OS. Also what kind of firmware you are trying to update. Even if i don't really understand what the problem is it sounds to me like you have some issues with Kaspersky and not the computer. This is a Lenovo forum and you posted under the "Thinkpad T61 and prior T series" section so if you got some problems with Kaspersky it might be a better idea to post in the kaspersky support forum. If you believe your problem is related to the computer please provide some info about the problem and your system as well as what you are actually trying to do. -gan

Alright, well, I recently switched my network over to WPA-PSK from WEP. I have a wrt54g router with the sveasoft satori 4.0 firmware and a canon pixma ip4000r wireless g printer. Under wep, everything worked fine. But when I switched to WPA and reconfigured the printer to use it, I was having problems. It wouldn't get an IP address. After playing around for awhile, I realized that when I turned off the "Firewall protection" option on the router, the printer would get an IP address and work. I thought this was kind of strange because how would this setting affect things operating internally on the network? I think this option might only be available in the sveasoft firmware, but I can't remember what the factory firmware had. Can anyone explain this? I can't figure it out.

That's the setting I'm talking about.

But plugging it back to the lenovo it is still a brick. My lucky star there was warranty it was replaced by lenovo. You may want to try it and extract the data, if it works. And hopefully you can still format it and made it work pluggin back to the lenovo.

I tried to send this through support channels but they told me there was no way to reach any developers through phone support.  One guy said the developers do read the forums so I am posting this here. Basically this is what happened: (twice!)  I had pre-boot fingerprint authentication and also swipe to power on enabled on my T530. Everything worked great until I wanted to be sure I discharged the battery all the way by letting the machine power off from a low battery. The way I did this on previous laptops was to just run memtest86 or something until the battery ran out. but since I use the laptop in UEFI only mode memtest86 doesn't work. so I used the built in lenovo memory diagnostics.  after the laptop powered off. I turned it on again. and it quickly powered back off. Afterwards the fingerprint reader refused to work for anything other than power on and refused to be connected to by the Lenovo fingerprint software.  I originally thought this was because I had turned it back on and the system was talking to the fingerprint reader as part of start up and didn't complete since the power went right back off again.. that is until I managed to break my replacement fingerprint reader. This time I just ran the memory diagnostics as before until it turned itself off. (and didn't try to turn it back on right afterwards) This time it also bricked the fingerprint reader in such a way that caused it to keep connecting and disconnecting fro... Read more

Answer:Possible firmware problem leading to bricked fingerprint reader on T530

Let me make sure I understand this:
1.  enroll fingerprint
2.  confirm power-on authentication is working
3.  unplug AC power
4.  reboot into UEFI diagnostics, run the memory tests until the system shuts off due to low battery
5.  try to turn the system on, it immediately shuts off due to low battery
6.  attach AC power, boot system
7.  fingerprint software doesn't work anymore?

Am I understanding the situation correctly?

Read the entire referenced webpage below. Apparently, the problem is in the BIOS or HDD firmware, and also affects Windows and Mac platforms (especially laptops) as well as Linux despite the problem being reported against Fiesty and Gutsy Ubuntu:

Article Explanation of Ubuntu Hard Drive Wear and Tear.

Ubuntu doesn't touch your hard drive power management settings by default. In almost all cases, it's more likely to be your BIOS or the firmware on your hard drive.

There are two fixes documented: choose wisely after reading the entire article as there is a trade-off between laptop battery life vs HDD life. I would choose in favor of the solution that extends the HDD life at the expense of battery life. Just my $0.02 worth of advice.

Hello All: I have encountered a perplexing problem when attempting to update the firmware in the Intel Management Engine.  The firmware update is posted on the W520 driver page (it is package 83rf32ww).  The problem is the error message shown in the photo below. The update process starts when the MEUpdate.CMD file is selected within the DOS window, but after a few seconds, the error message at the bottom of the picture appears. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Michael

Answer:Problem when updating Management Engine (ME) firmware - photo attached

Are you running MEUpdate.CMD by directly double-clicking on it?

If you already are, try opening an elevated Command Prompt window, navigating to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ME (so the interpreter doesn't try and look for the file in C:\Windows\system32), and then run MEUpdate.cmd.

I have a Netgear WGR614 v6 Wireless Router. I recently tried to update the firmware to Version 2.0.19_1.0.19 (http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/d103100.asp). At that website it gives step by step directions on how to download and load the firmware update.
1. I opened a Web browser.
2. Accessed the router (http://192.168.1.1)
3. Logged in the router (User Name = admin and Password = password
4. Wrote down all settings that you entered when previously configuring. (Usually this includes information such as ISP configuration and wireless security settings.)
5. Downloaded the file from the North America.
6. In the web browser of http://192.168.1.1 > Under Maintenance > click Router Upgrade.
7. Clicked Browse and locate the firmware upgrade file and selected the file I just downloaded.
8. Clicked Upload.
9. Waited for the router to reboot.
10. Under Maintenance, click Settings Backup, then click Erase.

Then this is where I started to have problems, the remaining steps I need to follow are:
11. Wait one minute for the router to reboot.
12. Manually enter the configuration information you wrote down in Step 4. Use the Smartwizard, or manually configure as shown in the box below.
If the router has problems, repeat the whole procedure, Steps 1-12.

Dear Lenovo, After perusing the recent 2016/2017 comments by multiple users on similar posts about Ideapad Z510 battery from across locations/countries - it appears that the firmware that you had issued last year - has somehow got overwritten / superceded maybe in either late 2016  or early 2017 by some more recent/latest updates. I am writing from India and facing the same probem that the battery is showing 100% and then going off almost immediately. This probem had fortunately got solved last year when you had issued a firmware update - but now when i am trying to use the same files again - it basically conveys that "no battery available to update" because that particular firmware is already applied on our laptop. Hence, can you please release newer firmware update for this same issue -  using a z510 system having current till-date updates for different OS - win 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 - same way as you have released for thinkpad series of laptops too on the weblink - http://support.lenovo.com/in/en/downloads/ds001322 Come to think of it - that if a fully working battery is being "prompted" as weak and "need to buy" - but actually is a fully functioning hardware - isnt it a bit of a letdown for your users??? - what to say of  some who might have already bought and replaced with newer replacement batteries - which is actually a completely avoidable cost? I was prompted to update my Battery firmware I have a genuine battery in my Thinkpad edge E520 that is out of warrenty The firmware failed and disabled the battery so it is no longer operating How do i reverse this firmware or disable the battery bios check?

Answer:Battery firmware has just killed my battery. How do you justify pushing firmware that does this?

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Here it is the support site link for your model just in case.

I'm guessing that the computer is booting but the battery does not provide any charge, right?

I did not have that issue, but I'm just guessing, What will happen if you apply the battery firmware update again? You can download it manually from the support site: "Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Utility for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-..."

This is what it cames to my mind right now, I hope it helps.

Hi to all ! Did anyone of you manage to run the fwdphb03.exe successfully on a T440 or any other T4XX, T5XX in an enterprise environment with Windows 7 / 64 bit ? In our production environment we can start the update process but a few seconds later an error log is created. The log includes following information: Version: 2.22.000Update result: 244Error description: Read back chip information failed The update never runs successfully in our environment. Lenovo was so far not able to give us more detailed information about the requirements to run the software successfully and we have not got any further information about the error or the possible trigger for the problem. The only solution in the moment is to update every single ProDock on a preinstalled T440 without installing any system updates before. But that could not be serious for a large amount of ProDocks ! many thanks,Gerhard

Answer:ProDock update problem - Firmware 2.22.000 - fwdphb03.exe - Read back chip information failed

Hi, I am facing the same problem as you had. Did you find any solution for your issue?. Regards.

Hi,
I just got a 2nd hand T3600, and installed Win 10 on it.
I left it running and it should have gone to sleep mode, but instead it crashed. I found the following error in the event log:
Idle power management features on processor 0 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.
Source: Kernel-Processor-Power (Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Processor-Power)Event ID: 34
I have the latest BIOS A14 (I think)http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=YXDF3&fileId=3405977809&osCode=WT64A&productCode=precision-t3600&languageCode=en&categoryId=BI
How can I find more information about this. Is the CPU failing? I have a warranty on the machine with the reseller.
CPU = Xeon E5-1650

Answer:T3600 - Idle power management features on processor 0 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem.

Did you install all the Win 10 drivers after loading Win 10, starting with the Power Manager followed by
chipset drivers, etc?

Dear Lenovo Support Team,As you know, we have to update our PCs according to Lenovo Cumulative Security Update and security holes in installed versions of Intel's Management Engine inside our PCs. Could you kindly explain me the procedure for successful update of critically important Intel Management Engine Firmware for my 300-20ISH Desktop (ideacentre)? Please, step by step with right order to complete this update of IME firmware!Because I got "Error 8719: Firmware update cannot be initiated because Local Firmware update is disabled" with all my attempts and already installed updates of Intel Management Engine Interface Driver for Windows|Intel AMT Driver for Windows from download section 300-20ISH I used "Consumer Intel Management Engine Firmware Update Tool for Intel SKL and Kaby Lake - IdeaCentre, ThinkCentre and Lenovo Desktop 11.8.50.3425" for update of IME Firmware. My OS is Windows 10 Pro 64bit.Installed BIOS Version: FYKT74A2017/07/26 (recent) If there is need to change here and there via options in BIOS for successful update then let me know and for others owners of 300-20ISH Desktop (ideacentre) too. Thanks!

Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P. It seems like other folks have the same problem in Ideapad series.   When I plug in a charger, the laptop shows that battery is charing but, it never goes above 7% (w/ max battery life mode).

Answer:IdeaPad battery firmware problem (not charging. battery status is fine)

After that reboot and install it back and see if there is a difference specially on the battery status. Also basing on your statement that the unit is with you for more than a year and you have not encountered any problem except recently it would seem that a battery replacement might be in order. Again before jumping into conclusion check the ac adapter and battery based on the procedure given in your hardware maintenance manual.

Hi i have theEdge11 K3252545-A12 modelwith Battery 57wh model no : 42T4897 The Battery Monitor showing only 47.5wh overall capacity. This seems to be the same problem like the edge13 series. For these devices there is a battery firmware update but not for my battery.Again i know that batterys are getting worse after cycles but this seems to be bug because:1) the battery is 2 weeks old2) the battery shows in the energy manager as 47wh battery and not 57 battery. So the battery manager says "good" and no battery wastage.  Does Lenovo provide the upgrade also for my device and battery? see the links: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-75738 http://www.lenovoblogs.com/connections/2010/08/update-bios-and-battery-firmware-to-ensure-full-charg...

Answer:Solved: Edge 11 AMD K325 - Battery Problem need Battery Firmware update?

Hello mate, You don't have a problem with your battery. My T510 indicates the same with a 57wh. Under average usage patterns your ThinkPad battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity for the first year of operation. Average usage is defined as the number of recharge cycles. A cycle is defined as each time the battery discharges a total of 85% or more and is recharged it counts as one cycle.

HP-Update FIRMWARE update problem?
I got some critical update for my Seagate 320 gb hard drive?s firmware. I went to download an process the update, later it asked me to insert a blank disk. Well I don?t have a blank disk but I hit bootable cd anyway thinking it would create some file on the hard drive. Well obviously that?s not what it had in mind because my disk drive opened, I shut the disk drive and it started saying writing data to disk. HOW could it do that with no disk. I couldn?t close it. It then said installation succesfull. What the heck. I restarted my computer to see if I had screwed up my system and it seams to be running fine. Have I screwed up my hard drive? Did the dang update install? Can I delete these firmware updte files lying around on my desktop? Please help me????

It is ok.

I dont know what happened, but You HAVE to burn the bootable disk, and then boot into it after a restart in order to update the firmware.

Question: Firmware

I recently purchased an nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card with 512MB For an eight year old Dell Dimension 4600i (P4, 3G HT with a 128 card). As I didn?t think I was getting the full benefit of the new card I checked in BIOS. The maximum it goes to is 256 so I looked the Dell site and saw there were 4 updates, one being video, ok so I downloaded it, and then stopped. I have had a bad experience with firmware (a Plextor drive that refused to work after an update) as a result I am not sure whether to go ahead or not. Ok pathetic but please humour me, do the risks out way the benefits.
Oh, re. the HP on this PC, I noticed it is disabled in BIOS sorry better for a new thread perhaps.
Dave

Answer:Firmware

Now lets see if I understand. You have replaced the the original graphics card with a nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card.
From the Dell web site it only shows one update for the Bios but it does not state what it was for so should not be used.
Although it does have several driver updates for graphics cards these are not for the new card you have installed and should not be used. Go to the nVidia web site for new updated drivers.
From my memory the bios does not indicate how much memory the graphics card uses. I could be wrong.

Hi,I recently bought my first CD burner. It's a Sony Spessa USB Plus CRX100E/X2 drive. I found out that it can't quite burn an entire 80 min/700MB disk, but that there is supposedly a firmware update that fixes it. I downloaded a firmware update program from Sony's website (found here), and flashed the drive with the default firmware file (CDRW0008.BIN), but it didn't seem to do anything except change the driver to an EEPROM driver. I switched back to the original driver, and it was as if I had never done anything...The firmware program came with another BIN file, ZERO.BIN, so I tried flashing that. I guess that was a mistake, because now the drive doesn't work at all - it's recognized as a "non-specific QT processor with JG". I tried changing the driver back to the original again, but this time Windows won't use it. It just says that there are no compatible drivers for the device. I tried to flash the firmware with the program from Sony again, but now it doesn't recognize the drive as being compatible, so it won't flash it.I was hoping to get some support from Sony, but they informed me that I would have to pay more than I paid for the drive in the first place to get support. So, I hope someone here might have an idea of how I can fix it.

Answer:Is there any way to fix this firmware?

That is why the smarter people here do NOT recommend firmware or BIOS updates lightly. You can end up with a doorstop and no recourse. If the product is still under warranty and doesn't do what is advertised, take it back for a return or replacement with something that does.

Question: OEM DVD Firmware

Dvd disk drive won't run DVD's. Makes alot of clicking, spinning noises but wont read disks. Went to HKEY areas and changed some things recom by other forums. Didn't work. Told needed firmware upgrade. Unable to find firmware for Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A ATA Device because as near as I can find it's an OEM Device. Went back to Gateway(Notebook Manufacturer) and they don't have. Any suggestions? Ifu can't fix, I guess u install a new DVD Device or a new Notebook.
Was also told by Gateway I needed a Codec upgrade.

Answer:OEM DVD Firmware

The codec pack is easy enough- Techspot has what you need here http://www.techspot.com/downloads/775-klite-codec-pack-full.html
Install and then try running the discs.

How does the drive show up in the Device Manager ? No exclamation mark in a yellow triangle?
What DVD's won't it run-commercial (retail) movies, or discs you are attempting to burn ? If the latter, what brand of discs.

If it definitely requires a firmware update then it seem's you're out of luck as there are none as far as I can tell.

Question: firmware?

I heard someone use the word firmware the other day and wondered what the heck it is. After checking out the definition on www.webopedia.com I am still a little confused on the subject. Anyone care to explain this to me? Please?

Answer:firmware?

well i understand it as a piece of software build into hardware. Examples of firmware are: bios's, video bios's etc.

There is a way of upgrading firmware in hardware like DVD burners to make them faster or burn dual layer.
