Synaptics software on non-synaptics touchpad?

Question: Synaptics software on non-synaptics touchpad?

I'm looking for software that can customize my touchpad functions, like "tap to click" and some other features found in Synaptics software... The touchpad on my laptop doesn't have anything like it...

Preferred Solution: Synaptics software on non-synaptics touchpad?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.

Hi, I originally posted this problem on Tech Help but it was perhaps a bit verbose.
I have an HP Stream 11 which I recently updated to win 10.
Since then the touchpad does not work at all.
Following HP advise I removed the existing version of the software and tried to install the recommended version which fixes this issue.
The software downloads and says it has successfully installed.
Unfortunately it has not. The created synaptics folder only has two files in it. On my HP 15 the synaptic folder is full of files.
I've tried installing back versions, versions for other make laptops all to no avail.
I've spoken to HP at length but they seem unable to offer a solution.
Most of HP's suggestions involve 'Uninstall the software' I can't its not there.
'Go back to a restore point' I can't there are no restore points it being a new win 10 installation.
I'm really looking for pointers as to what to try next, I even deleted all the synaptics registry entries, thinking there may be a value in there which is prohibiting installation.
Any suggestions welcome, Thanks Al

Is it possible to configure a synaptics touch pad settings such as sensitivity, tapping, and type lock settings without the synaptics software?

When I upgraded my laptop to Vista, my touch pad became erratic randomly clicking both left and right buttons as well as being unresponsive and/or jumping to random locations. I discovered that the issue was caused by the synaptics software. When I uninstalled the software part of the driver, the touchpad worked fine, but I can't configure it. I've tried updating to the latest software/driver from the synaptics website as well as Compaq's recommended drivers for my laptop off their website and neither worked. I've also tried on several occasions to deal with Compaq chat tech support but was unable to come up with a solution.

If anyone knows if it can be configured in the registry, or if there is a config file that can be edited, or 3rd party software, please let me know if you have any ideas!

Just got an X1 Yoga 2nd Gen.  Pretty great except I see that WmiPrvSE.exe is constantly using 1-4% CPU in task manager. After digging I discovered this is due to the following query being executed by SynTPEnh.exe when it starts up: SELECT * FROM __InstanceCreationEvent WITHIN 1 WHERE TargetInstance ISA 'Win32_Process' This query string can be seen in the SynTPEnh.exe binary file via SysInternals procexp or strings tools. The query executes once every second indefinitely.  This seems minor but bad for battery life, but also seems unnecessary for touchpad functionality. I took a look at the reference SynTPEnh.exe that comes from Synaptics own website.  It does not contain the query string and so presumably does not rely on WMI for any functionality.  However the software on Synaptics appears to be old, from August 2015, so it is unclear if Lenovo or Synaptics has added the query since. What's up with this?  I'd like to not have my CPU used every second always, but I would also like my touchpad to function correctly.

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad software makes 1 sec polling WMI query causing constant CPU utilization

Thank you for this problem report and sorry that I didn't notice it earlier.  We will check on this.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

The Yoga is my 1st Windows machine in years. Coming from various MacBook(s) Pro(s) I dearly miss the capabilities and configurability of Apple's multitouch touchpad. While responsibility of the Synaptics device is fairly decent I haven't found an experience that is anything close to the one perceived on the MacBook touchpad. Latter in combination with BetterTouchTool is my weapon of choice when it comes to productivity. It offers almost unlimited configurability, that is, I can design/configure any gesture I desire and link it to a keystroke for instance. It's just perfect since I am not into Apple's predefined gesture settings at all. Now I have spent endless hours in getting this back on my new Yoga. At least I am now able to use 3 finger swipes for back/forward navigation. However, this is just a fraction of what I need/want. That's why I am looking for a way to either be able to modify the driver myself (open source, Lenovo/Synaptics?) or get access to an API I can build on. Obviously I'd prefer latter option. Synaptics is touting their Gesture Suite but I cannot find a download somewhere. I'm afraid it's OEM only. And if that's the config app that comes with the standard Synaptics driver it's just pathetic. So does anyone have a clue on how we can significantly improve the performance of this otherwise very nice laptop? Thanks in advance, stfn

Answer:Yoga 13: any chance for open source Synaptics touchpad driver or touchpad API?

hi stfn-64,my personal opinion on this case, i don't think either lenovo or synaptics will share the main source codes with you or anyone else.at this point, i suggest you to try to update drivers synaptics. it may solve your issue.hope this helps.

Dear all,
Since yesterday, the built-in TouchPad mouse does not react anymore. In properties it says "the device is working properly", but it doesn't...
I am now using an external mouse.
How can I restore the TouchPad mouse? When I open the control panel, I get the possibility to uninstall the Synaptics driver. Should I?
Thanks for your help!

Press Win+W to bring up Settings Search
Type "synaptic"
Double Click "SmartSense"
Slide the Slider all the way to "Off"
Click "Close" and then "OK"

This will Disable the Anti-Palm detection which prevents simultaneous Keyboard and Mouse use. I recommend you re-enable this feature when you're not gaming as otherwise you risk problems while typing.

So I am at the end of my rope with my laptop's touchpad. I can not disable the tap-to-click option, and because of this I am CONSTANTLY clicking on things every time I type or do anything.

Also, the scroll does not work.

I have searched through all of the mouse options and there is not one single option anywhere for tapping or scrolling.

I have updated the driver. I have uninstalled the driver and tried installing an older version of the driver. I can't find anything that will give me these options, no matter which drivers I install.

I am using Windows XP, on a Dell Inspiron 6000. According to the hardware tab, I am using a Synaptics PS/2 Pointing Device.

Please, please, PLEASE help! Please!

You don't elaborate what your problem is ? is it working at all or is acting strange ?
Have you checked the BIOS to see if it's disabled ?
Otherwise, you may just have a bad piece of hardware there, take it to a shop and have them open it up and check.

Question: Synaptics Touchpad

Hi. I'm having a problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000's touchpad. Recently (i.e. Today) it has been giving me an error and shutting down a program called "Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements", which has the adverse effects of slowing down the touchpad's sensitivity, and making the scroll bar on the side of the pad useless. Restarting solves this problem, but it occurs again after perhaps thirty minutes or so. I've already tried redownloading the drivers for it, but it hasn't solved the problem. In addition, upon selecting the mouse via the Control Panel, I'm confronted with this error. This problem has me stumped. Can anyone shed some light on what I could do to solve this?

Hi,The issue you have mentioned and the error you attached clearly state that there is an issue with the Synaptics Touchpad drivers on the system. To resolve the issue, I suggest you uninstall the Synaptics Touchpad drivers completely from the system through Control Panel, Add/Remote programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Win Vista). After complete uninstallation, please restart the system. Download the latest drivers from the following weblink and then install the software. Question: Synaptics TouchPad

Hello,

Recently my Synaptics TouchPad suddenly stopped working on my Compaq M2000 laptop; I fixed the problem by re-installing the Synaptics driver. When I restarted the computer, the TouchPad was working fine, but the keyboard was not working at all, so now I cannot type in my password to log onto the computer.

Is there any way to solve this problem without having to format the computer?

dont format. use a different comp, download (savepe) its a recovery program. you can run chkdsk from there. it will load its own drivers. savepe is a live xp cd.

Question: Synaptics TouchPad

I have a Synaptics TouchPad v11.0.7 on my HP Pavilion dv6000. I prefer a higher sensitivity on the pad, so I change the pointer options. Hello Everyone, I do not usually use forums and other kinds of helps, but guys, this is hilarious.Or... it would be hilarious if happened to another person, yeah. basic data --Probook 455 G2Windows 8.1 64-bit(McAfee IS) So, my Synaptics touchpad started behaving in an odd way yesterday. That is: it works fine at startup, but the tapping surface stops reacting after a few seconds - sometimes after a few minutes. What remains is even more strange: the two buttons remain operational, and the bottom approx. 10% of the surface reacts to right and left movements, while the upper 90% zooms in and out whatever is on the screen... WHOA? And sometimes it goes back working for no obvious reasons. Before stopping again.Next: If I close the lid and open after a few sec, the wake-up process starts and the touchpad works fine until... go to 10.And it is not over: the tapping surface works fine IF I KEEP ONE OR BOTH BUTTONS PRESSED. ?? :-) naturally this is not a "solution" as all side effects of a pressed mouse button occur. But the pointer moves, yeah. Umm. [UPDATE: this later phenomenon was a seemingly software-related sticky Ctrl issue that stopped occurring] What I did this far:1. Driver check: driver uninstall -> reboot -> reinstall (no newer version offered, so the same) -> reboot -> no effect, same symptoms;2. So bad noone is able to answer this question. :-(Update:- touchpad always starts ok when ProBook is switched on, but halts after an indeterminable (that is always changing) time;- I am unable to determine the trigger - I do not know what (later starting background process and/or clash of processes??) causes this behaviour;- when operable it is like trying to drive a waterbed in the Monaco Grand Prix - lags and slides;- when stops the bottom 10% of the touchpad reflects to left/right impulses and the buttons work well;- quite often is starts again if I move a plug-in mouse and switch back to touchpad after a minute or so - but NOT always;- had a "sticky Ctrl" issue earlier (had loads of fun...)- this is NOT the same;- if the touchpad is stuck with no signs of life I switch off Synaptics processes from Task Manager - I gain a very strange touchpad without the extras of Synaptics and Shaking Like Hell. My computer is a Toshiba Satellite L305 and has a Synaptics TouchPad. I use Windows Vista.

For a few weeks I had been getting messages saying "Synaptics TouchPad has stopped working, click here to solve the problem" or something similar. I didn't think anything of it because the mouse was working fine, so I just hit the "X". I'm not even sure that is a part of the problem even because it has stopped coming up.

Lately the mouse will work fine and after being on the computer for about an hour or so, the mouse will slowly stop working. I can still click and when I tap the touchpad, that will still click. I just won't be able to move the mouse. Restarting the computer does not fix it. Usually I just plug in a mouse and use it for 20-30 minutes and by then the mouse is working fine again.

Any suggestions?

Hi Zsofia,

Uninstall the driver and then go to windows update. It will detect your touchpad and install the correct driver software. You should be able to use your touchpad even without the synaptics driver as Vista has native drivers for your touchpad.

After upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 the Synaptics PS/2 touchpad no longer has scolling ability. I have tried vertical and horizontal, as well as 1 and 2 finger. The touch pad is enabled and scolling is enabled. The current driver is 19.0.12.98 which was updated by windows update. I have downloaded and installed 19.0.19.1 from the Synaptics website and it didn't work. I have tried the Windows 8 driver from Synaptics as well and had no luck (failed to install even in compatibility mode). The original Compaq Windows 7 driver wouldn't work either.  My Ideapad Z580 is a month out of warranty and the Synaptics touchpad keys suddenly stopped working todayabout 24 hours after I applied a raft of Windows 8.1 updates. I subsequently did a system restore back to just after the updates were applied and this has given me back use of the left and right touchpad buttons but I also seem to have lost the configuring app, the icon for which used to be in with a load of other hidden icons in the system tray. How can I retrieve it please because, although the touchpad now works again, it is pretty well unusable and I'm having to rely on my trusty old wire less mouse?

Answer:Cannot configure Synaptics touchpad

Forget what I asked in my earlier post. It seems that, if I uninstall the touchpad, then, after a reboot, it is automatically reinstalled but the Synaptics Pointing Device icon subsequently take a long time to reappear in the system tray, allowing me to change settings again. I can't say the touchpad is a joy to use (it never has been) but it is usable even if it does seem to be playing silly buggers now and again, ie the the cursor occasionally picks up fields it passes over and drags them round the screen.

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad not working at all

it maybe one of the functions keys - on Toshiba and HP I know the function Key F9 or F11 with FN key
so you hold the FN key down (on toshiba a drop down menu appears at the top of the screen ) and then press f9 or f11 or any key that has a symbol that may look correct
that will toggle between enable and disable the touch pad

I am not sure why this happens, it may be a bad driver installation from what I have been reading online this happens a lot after people install new updates. The quick "solve it now" solution would be to navigate to the synaptics folder on your computer (C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP) find SynTPEnh.exe run this program and you should have your scroll function and everything back. If it keeps ending the program on you after you have tried this maybe try finding an older version of the driver to instal, or put a shortcut link to the fore mentioned program on your desktop for easy access.

Hi Guys, My touch pad isn't working on my aspire E1-572P laptop. Windows 8.1 64. I have deleted and re-installed the driver several times, still won't work, although the icon lights up when I press right or left button but nothing on the touch pad

Answer:Synaptics touchpad problems

The Synaptics touch pad gestures are not working on my Aspire E1-572P, although I have tried loading updated drivers from both Acer and Synaptics. The problem may have started since I had a touch screen replacement done by Acer about 2 months ago. The touch pad works fine as a mouse pointer. I had an on line chat with an acer tech. but he suggested doing a factory reset, which I thought was a bit extreme so I thought I might try here first. Would be grateful for any help. Thanks

OK here is the problem,
I was using the touch-pad as always and it was working just fine all morning
than I put my system in standby when i returned my touch-pad was not responding. When I checked the driver properties under device status it read:
device could not start (code 10).
I rolled the driver back and nothing then I tried to uninstall/reinstall the driver from a download I got from the gateway website still nothing finally I tried a simple system restore (not a complete restore w/disk just restored back to sometime yesterday) still nothing even though it was working fine in the time frame i had restored back too.

if Anyone has any ideas let me know, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Hello Guys,  Just a quick question, I have read that the older touchpad (I don't remember the name) had a lot of issues and the new IdeaPad start to came with the new touchpad "Synaptics", Just  i wanted to know if the laptop that I bought  2 weeks ago came with the new one or not. Can somebody help me with that? Is the touchpad problem resolved with the "new" versions?             Thanks! Mariano

Answer:Touchpad Synaptics or the older one? =/

Maybe  you might like to post which IdeaPad you purchased in order that members have a chance of answering your question?  It might also be an idea to post the production date which should, if I am right, be on the box.

Unable to use multitouch settings , not sure when this happened but it used to work fine and was able to scroll , 4 finger tap , 3 finger touch ect with my touchpad. Now the touchpad isn't reconised, instead ps/2 mouse pointer appears in the advanced settings under mouse and touchpad. I have tried updating software  driver and selecting synaptics drivers instead, but this also doesn't work. I get an error message saying 'This operation requires an interactive window station.' I have downloaded the latest synaptics driver from their site (Windows 10 PS/2 & SMBus Devices v19.0.19.1) still same error message. Thanks in advance, and if anyone can help with a maybe related problem , my keyboard will sometimes not function; correctly problem started not long ago either, maybe the same;  when pressing the letters 't', y, 5 ,6' this types instead 't5,y6, t5 ,y6' amongst other keys (makes typing very difficult haha)

I upgraded to Windows 10, and after the first update the touchpad stopped working.  I called Microsoft for help, the technicians were very patient and helpful, infact I learned a lot watching them shadow my laptop.  I spent a total of 12 hours on the phone talking with different technicians who ended up escalating the matter as they couldn't fix the problem. They even scheduled an appointment for me to bring my laptop to a Microsoft store at the mall to be fixed, which I now can cancel thanks to this site.   I followed the instructions that were posted here, holding the power button down for 10 seconds powering down my laptop, then I removed the battery and power cord, waited about a minute, then put the battery and cord back in, pressed the power button  turning my laptop back on and  the TOUCHPAD NOW WORKS!!!  Microsoft technicians reinstalled Windows 10 three times, checking  everything there was to check, installing and uninstalling the Synaptics touchpad driver and nothing worked so they would keep escalating the case, no one at Microsoft knew of this simple and easy fix.   Just try it and you'll see..... it worked for me, I hope it will work for you!  Thank you to the person who posted these instructions!

Hello, this is a strange problem I am having...
I used to have xp on my amilo laptop, with synaptics driver 7.10.10, May 2004 driver. The nice thing about this was that the touchpad was disabled when an external mouse was plugged in, just by ticking the proper box in the driver setting panel (disable touchpad when external ... ). Easy and working fine: also, the touchpad was reenabled automatically removing the external mouse.
Now I switched to win7, and I lost this capability. Fujitsu site does not have an updated driver, and recommends to use the manufacturer drivers. Fine, but...
1) the latest version for Win 7/Vista 32 bit is 14.0.3.C, it works OK but there is no trace of that box (disable touchpad when external...): you can only disable the touchpad, and reenable manually.
2) in desperation, I took the old driver used in xp, run the setup in compatibility mode, and it installed (barring the usual complaints about incompatibility); again, it works fine, but no trace of that capability.

Is something in win7 preventing this feature from working? Or is some mix of amilo hardware and win7 causing the problem?
Thanks for any suggestion

I previously included this problem in another thread but I thought I'd sorted it. I can't get on with Touchpads so I wanted to disable it. Couldn't do it in Device Mnr (disable is greyed out) and deleting the driver just leads to it re-installing at every start-up. I found I can disable it under Control Panel - Mouse - Other pointing Devices. A few days later it's not only back (although still shows as disabled) and every time I restart I get a little box marked Synaptics asking to Run the exe file!
I just can't get rid of it. It can be diabled via fn+F5 - but I always forget. Had the same problem on my Acer so I lifted the keyboard and pulled the ribbon cable out. But I can't do that on the Samsung because the keyboard is under the casing top and the keys poke through holes. I don't fancy splitting the case.
Any ideas?

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad Returns - again!

Do you have CCleaner?
if so look in Tools - Start up - there may be a program there you can disable to stop the pad from working. (SunthTP.exe or something similar)

my synaptics touchpad has a mind of its own
Hello this is my first posting to your Windows seven forum. I am writing to you today because over the past two to three weeks my Synaptics touchpad mouse has had a mind of its own. It has been clicking and opening files without me pressing the mouse buttons or tapping the touchpad, scrolling by itself, highlighting and moving the files on my desktop and in my computer, etc. I have tried everything from physically cleaning the Touchpad thoroughly, updating the Synaptics driver time and time again only to find no resolution to this issue, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled previous versions of the synaptics drivers that worked before with my laptop only to be confronted with this same problem. I have ran scans on both Uni-blue registry booster and PC Tools Spyware Doctor (which I use as my registry and anti-virus/spyware programs) and of which I update on a daily/weekly basis and yet I have found no traces of what may be causing my mouse to act so crazy. I have also ran the system scan in the command prompt which was suggested earlier in this thread only to find out that everything was running properly and at 100% integrity.

Hello,
My problem is that after switching off the touchpad mouse some time ago, now I cannot switsh it on. Usually I use a normal mouse, as it is more convienient. But when I am out of home I surely would like to use the touchpad one.
When I try to habilitate it in the contral panel, it works for several seconds only. I tryed it with and without the normal mouse - no differrence.
My computor is Acer Aspire 5610, Windows XP. Never had viruses.
I have tried to download a new driver from the link I have found in this post:
http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=43310
and put it on the existing one - no result.
Maybe I should delete the old version driver and then put the new one?
In advance thank everyone for help.

Just Installed (clean install) Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop today, what a pain, tried an update first on my 32 bit but had problems so I decided to go ahead with installin 64 bit as my computer was compatible.

Anyway, got it installed and I'm re-installing my software.

Main problem is I can't seem to get a driver for my touchpad on my laptop which is a Fujitsu Siemens just over a year old. Fujitsu do not have 64 bit drivers but I got one from Synaptics.com which is supposed to be compatible and signed but when I try to run it I get the error message that it is not a Win32 app.

Anyone got an answer for me.

Hello! My laptop has an issue about its mousepad. It was working fine last year before I double-tapped the upper left part of my mousepad (to disable it for a bit). I already uninstalled it, then reinstall it again, but it is still not working. Hi, Try the following. First of all, download the Chipset driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59647.exe When done, open Device Manager, right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall. When this has completed, open your Downloads folder, right click the chipset installaer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook and then disconnect any peripherals ( ie usb mouse etc ). Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61501-62000/sp61882.exe When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad not working

Hi, You could try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.  Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58572.exe When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

Hello,

I just got an Acer Windows 8 PC, and none of the touchpad gestures seem to be working. I have tried using several recommended third-party tools and all of them said that I didn't have the correct drivers, even after I installed all of them.

I have gone to mouse --> Synaptics --> Settings, and the only options there are to enable/disable the buttons.

Is there any way to enable multi-touch?

Thanks,

Hi all,

I tried to install a wireless mouse for my laptop, which I could't get to work(!). No problem, except that when I returned to using my normal Synaptics Touchpad it had lost it's Virtual Scrolling capability. Also, its touch-sensitive areas no longer work.

Furthermore, Synaptics Touchpad seems to have (semi-)disappeared from my computer ("semi" in the sense that the touchpad itself still performs basic functions like moving and highlighting.)

Also, I can no longer find Synaptics in my tray.

I can't find the Touchpad anywhere in Control Panel to get at the settings.

IIRC, there used to be a Synaptics properties window somewhere that allowed you adjust all this stuff - again, I can't seem to find this anywhere.

(My computer: Dell Inspiron 5100, Windows XP, no other problems with computer.)

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

The touchpad on my HP G62 laptop was less responsive than normal. I tried changing the properties with no improvement. So I went to HP help and noticed that there was a driver update for this device. So I ran the update. Then the touchpad barely worked at all and a notice box said the driver was incompatible with current system. The advice on the web included more than one remark advising to not bother with the Synaptics website as it is unreliable. I did it anyway. Synaptics recognised I had a legal copy of Windows 7 Home and I downloaded the suggested driver. Which actually was a new version entirely. Now the pad is back to life just like old times. The HP update was outdated. Every time I have used any HP updates I run into problems. I suggest HP users forget all about the "Support Assistant" and seek more credible update sources. Thnx, gnuguy.

Windows 7 laptop (Lenovo) 64 bit.

I want to stop all the extra features of the Synaptics touchpad on my computer but still be able to use the pad as mute. I mean, I don't want the pointer to grab onto objects and open links or do anything unless I click on that object. I don't like all these new features and don't know how to stop the pointer from opening links. It also opens and closes apps. I went into the mouse properties and disabled all the features but the mouse still has a mind of its own. Is there any alternatives? I don't want to only use an external mouse as I often use the laptop sitting on a couch and a mouse is not convenient.

There have been many answers to this question before, but none of them works for me.  (Maybe the Anniversary Update for W10 messed that up as well as everything else.)  I can disable the touchpad through Control Panel, but it is enabled the next time I reboot.  I have edited the registry to change that behavior, but it doesn't make any difference.  I looked at the latest drivers from Synaptics, but those installed on my computer are newer (than those on the Synaptics website - odd).  The touchpad is a complete and total poc.  I have a wireless mouse attached, and with the touchpad enabled and the computer closed (I have an external monitor) the cursor dances a wild fandango across my screen, opening applications, selecting text, and so on.  Not acceptable. What I would really like to do is "disable touchpad when a mouse is connected" but that option apparently disappeared with W7.  Can anyone give me a recommendation for how to solve this problem? Thanks.John

I own a T61 Thinkpad (type=6465), bought in 2008 and running Ubuntu 10.04. I recently ordered from Lenovo/IBM Parts a new palm rest because its touchpad buttons don't work properly anymore. I was told that I needed a palm rest with the id 42W2958, which had been substituted, for some reason, to part 42W3821 (they said it was compatible though). The new palm rest I received is identical to the original one I had, except for one small but annoying detail: the touchpad hardware doesn't support two finger scrolling, which I use heavily. I tried everything I could to "activate" it (if such a thing is possible) but to no avail. With this command, it's very clear that both hardwares are different: $ xinput list-props "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" | grep Capa
Synaptics Capabilities (291):1, 1, 1, 1, 1 # <- original touchpad (2-finger-scroll = second to last column)
Synaptics Capabilities (291):1, 1, 1, 0, 0 # <- new touchpadCan someone help me figure out a way to solve this problem, in terms of part # I should (try) to replace with, or maybe some magical software solution that I'd have overlooked?

Hi There,

I have a synaptics touchpad driver installed on my laptop it is listed in my mouse options under devices settings as "Synaptics Pointing Device - v25.0.4" and under devices in the same tab the name is listed as "Synaptics touchpad v7.2".

The problem I am having is that in the devices settings tab I have checked the box that says "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing devices is attached" because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing. Problem is that when I want to use the touchpad and unplug the mouse, the touchpad will work fine until I shut down the computer. On startup (whether clean boot or restoring from standby) the touchpad will no longer work (with or without a mouse connected). When this happens I have tried a fresh reboot of the laptop, but the problem remains. I have tried reconnecting my mouse before shutting down or closing the lid of my laptop but the problem persists. Some times when using the touchpad the power cord on my laptop unplugs and when I plug it back in the touchpad no longer works, yet when I unplug the cord it will work again. I don't get any error messages when any of these things happen, they just happen without warning.
When I go into my mouse settings and go to the device settings tab, the devices list is now empty and all other options are greyed out, including the check box to disable the touchpad when a mouse is connec... Read more

Answer:Synaptics touchpad driver keeps breaking

because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing

That's a fairly common issue and my wife and daughter solved it by getting Toshiba Notebooks that have a switch between the touchpad and the keyboard to turn the touchpad off, both use a external mouse. The problem stems from the sensitivity of the touchpad and where a person's thumbs want to rest while typing. Adding to the problem is the type of touchpad that has the vertical and horizontal scroll areas.

I'd go into Device Manager and uninstall both instances for the touchpad and reboot, should install the drivers again, handy when an installation gets corrupted.

I did a clean install of win7 (yeah for me!) on my acer aspire 5336-2524. I also downloaded the device driver for Synaptics PS/2 Port Compatible TouchPad, unzipped it, and I think I installed it? I did an auto search for the best driver and result was the best driver was installed.

My problem is this, there used to a function within Personalize > Change Mouse Pointers > then touch pad. Here is where I could stop the function of the scroll bar along the right side of the touch pad and make scroll work with two fingers.

I don't know if that function was part of acer or Synaptics PS/2 Port Compatible TouchPad. But I want it back!

also there is nothing of the original factory install because when I made all the restore and back up it was crap, I found out after I needed it.

Hi, I've just upgraded from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite a100. I was wondering where I could download a driver for Synaptics touchpad that works? I tried the generic drivers from Synaptics' website, but they do not install completely (the second component always fails to install). Then I tried the ones from Toshiba's website, but The Vista-compatible ones display an error that says error code "#5B4 @10". Then I tried The Windows XP-compatible drivers, and they work perfectly, except the fact that I cannot configure enhanced features such as virtual scrolling and tap zones.
I click on the icon in the tray, click on The Device Settings tab, and whenever I click on The Settings button nothing happens. Any help?

Hi All,

I just installed Windows 7 Build 7600 and I am trying to get the touchpad scrolling to work on my Dell Inspiron 1420. I installed the synaptics drivers from their website (v10.1.8 x64) but when I go to mouse properties and click the synaptics tab it only allows me to configure the right and left click buttons. How can I configure the scrolling of my touchpad? I NEED it!

Also are there any iTunes guru's out there? I have my library all setup on my vista partition. Is there anyway I can get my library/playlists on the Windows 7 side...I don't want 2 copies of my music, I want it to all link to the files on the vista partition but I have a feeling I will have trouble either getting the playlists in or trying to gain access to those files on that partition....

thanks for all your help!

We could tell you more if you filled in your system specs in the lower left corner of your post, but Im assuming you dont have this tab. Im running a dell as well but IM using an older driver that was installed by win 7, and it works

In terms of Itunes I also dual boot and keep the music files on one partition (win 7) but as long as you point itunes to where they are stored, it should be a problem. the problem comes when you want to sync the updates (adds/deletes) on both partitions.

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and have discovered a problem that I can't seem to fix. When I Right-click on my Touchpad, nothing happens. This was very useful when I need to fix a word spelling & get options for the misspelled word.

I have an HP Pavilion using Synaptics Touchpad.

Any ideas ???

Answer:Right Click does't work on Touchpad (Synaptics)

Hi, do you mean the touch pad button (I presume you have one) or the double tap right click option?
And can you confirm the obvious, that rt click with a mouse works?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A210-11T (PSAEGE). Tired of Windows Vista installed from scratch Windows 7 and I was amazed. I had some small problems of drivers / support that could solve, but two of them still can not get the solution.

The first is the Synaptics TouchPad (mouse on the laptop) that does not work. With no drivers for Windows 7 went down this Toshiba model for Windows Vista but no luck, not down from the Synaptics website.

The other thing is that it does not work the FN key on the keyboard. Bah, the key work for me because a light comes on, but does nothing when combined with the above functions (eg mute, increase or decrease brightness, etc.).

I will appreciate if someone could guide me to solve these two problems.

I'll have a look.

Yesterday I installed vista on my laptop which previous ran XP.
In XP I had an icon in my tool bar, as well as an icon in the control panel where I could disable my touchpad. However since moving Vista, it no longer shows up, so I cant turn the damn thing off. Ive been into system devices, and all that shows up is the mouse, it doesnt even recognise I have a touchpad device, nor does it show up in the bios before loading windows, so I cant disable it. anywhere.
How can I turn this damn thing off? I hate it. Ive tried downloading the drivers for it to see if that brings it up, but after installing them there was no change.
Any ideas?

I recently upgraded from a Probook 4540s to a newer 450G3 with both running Win7 Pro 64bit. The touchpad for my older Probook started a bit wonky but I eventually found a driver that made it right. I'm struggling with the new 450G3 and feel it's a driver issue rather than a touchpad issue, although I could be mistaken.

I've searched HP and Synaptics websites for assistance with no success. Maybe someone here can assist. Here are the issues I'm experiencing on a continual basis.

*Touchpad "accuracy" seems really poor
-missed taps on pad and left click button
-cursor jumps about screen
-cursor doesnt always move with finger swipe
-sometimes right click menu pops up when swiping with finger, absolutely not hitting right click button

*Cursor scroll image freezes on screen (most annoying thing)
-When two finger scrolling, the cursor image will freeze a phantom image onto the screen. It only happens on scrolling function with the scrolling cursor image. When you hover over the frozen image it shows the circular busy cursor image. Sometimes there will be 3 or more frozen images on screen which overlay almost any program you open. I can clear them by ending the SynTPEnh.exe process in task manager which seems to start itself back up immediately. I really like the two finger scrolling and would hate to have to resort to other methods.
*Adding Edit- When images freeze on screen I still have functionality of the cursor. It's just that I have these cursor scroll ... Read more

Hi! New to the forum...I just upgraded my windows 7 original install on my Toshiba Laptop (3 years old) to the Windows 10 Home Preview Build (10130 was installed). Everything appears to be working EXCEPT my touchpad will not scroll.
It is a Synaptics V7.5 on PS-2 port.
I went to the Synaptics website and don't see a windows 10 driver for this...How can i get the scrolling to work on the touchpad (everything else seems to be working on the pad)...
Thanks in advance for all help

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad Will Not Scroll (Windows 10)

The included drivers are basic drivers. You will probably have to wait for Synaptics to release their full drivers.

I was tinkering around with my Acer laptop's motherboard trying to upgrade the 1 ram card in it. Well, I may have messed up the touchpad in a way. I've already tried reinstalling the driver just in case it was that sort of problem. But it wasn't. The touchpad is inoperable and I can only use a usb mouse to operate the cursor.  I don't know what to do! PS: I didn't void my laptop's warranty tinkering with the parts because the warranty has been over for a while!! -BetaTigerGaming"Owner of an Acer Aspire E 15"

Three weeks or so ago I posted here, asking for help on how to disable my touch pad on a Lenovo laptop. I disabled all the gestures, unchecked the 'lock on' feature, etc. and for a short while thought the issue was resolved. It is not. Here is my original thread:
http://www.sevenforums.com/search.php?searchid=6664971
It was closed but I am still having problems. When I drag the pointer across objects, it activates them, opens pages, that sort of thing. If I accidentally leave the pointer on the 'previous page' button, it automatically does goes back. It is driving me crazy. I've disabled everything (except disabling the touch pad entirely) and it's still plaguing me.

Short of a virus (I've scanned a few times with AVG and MalwareBytes and found nothing), the only thing I can think is perhaps in disabling the various features, I accidentally hit upon a sequence or combination that keeps somehow didn't disable those features I don't want.

Any suggestions?

A while back my laptop's power cable was fried in a power surge. No damage seemed to have been done to my laptop. but now I fear there may have been some peripheral damage.

In any case, whether sure to the power surge or not, my touchpad is not working when the computer is plugged in. When the computer is not plugged in, the touchpad sometimes works, but it is spotty.

I have no idea how to fix this. Any help?

So I wanna install it for my Vista Ultimate, but none of the editions will install properly. The version for XP installs properly but I cannot configure its settings ... The Vista version doesn't install completely. I really like the virtual scrolling feature, so is there an alternative?
I installed an earlier version (for XP) and it works, but I can't change the settings. I click the icon in the tray, click Device Settings tab, and click Settings under Devices. Normally a box should pop up but for me nothing at all happens.

Fixed! See Below Post
Laptop: Sony VGN-SR190E
OS: Windows 7 (64 Bit) (upgrade from Vista)
Problem: Synaptics Pointing Device (driver) - Gone

My touchpad is way too sensitive and driving me crazy. In Vista, there was a Synaptics Pointing Device utility that would enable adjustments to the touchpad.

In the Sony drivers section (Windows 7, 64 bit) for my laptop the Synaptics driver is no longer there. The Sony Forum is giving me no help/reply to this question.

Anyone here have any ideas of where I could get a suitable driver or another method of adjusting the touchpad?

I Appreciate any help,

Phil
