Preferred Solution: Windows 7 update not finding updates

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The last time windows update found anything new to download was 4 weeks ago on Sept.9.I manually update at least three times a week. When I try to update it goes through the normal 30 second or so search routine but all I ever get is No New Important Updates Are Available For Your Computer statement.
I have gone to hidden updates and was able to download an update that was about 2 months old with no problem.I have Malwarebytes and VIPRE security so I normally have Windows Defender turned off,but on two seperate ocaisions I have turned Windows Defender back on and Windows Update searched and found updates and I had no problem downloading and installing them.It even found the update for the newer Windows Update that I agreed to and insalled.
My computer is a VISTA Ultimate 64xbit and is kept up to date as much as possible.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Hello all,I have a T60p that I have just reinstalled windows XP on and I am having trouble with the ThinkVantage System Update software.  Every time I run it, it give me "System is up to date." and "No packages applicable to your system were found."  Now, I know that the system is indeed not up to date b/c I don't have most of the drivers (bluetooth/wireless/ect) and none of the nicer software (power management and such).  In the past when I would reinstall windows I could just start up the system update and it would install pretty much everything that I needed pretty quickly.  Just some other infos: windows is completely updated (XP SP3) and I also went ahead and updated the bios to 1.15 just to see if that would work but I am still having a problem.  If anyone has any ideas, I would be most appreciative.

I apologize if this is in the wrong category.

This is really starting to *** me off,
before when your computer went belly up, reinstalling windows was time consuming, but not difficult.
now i can't event get the computer to find the updates it needs.

So, in short,
when windows 10 was released, i had word from friends that it was terrible and don't get it.
good thing i listened.
around November- January, my mother decided she was gonna try it,
i said NO...
long story short she was getting *** off.
at the time i was busy with my college studies.
as exams have just finished, she asked me to fix her laptop.
i said sure, unaware of the *** fire i  was about to take on.

I installed windows 7, sp1, 64 bit on a Dell Inspirion N1545 Laptop.

as I progressed, windows finished it's thing,
and i began installing other things, such as Microsoft security essentials.
and then, i opened up windows update, to begin the onslaught of 200+ updates.
after 15 minutes of waiting, i realized something is wrong.
i started googling and going through forums, and found that this is not an uncommon issue.
a great deal of reboot and reattempts to launching search for windows updates happened. I started around 1pm yes... Read more

What type of tablet do you have?  When I go to and enter the Model/Type you included, your model cannot be found.  That is why System Update is not working, because it it querying the same database.

I leave it on for the entire night and nothing happen: the 17 pending updates are still there next morning. On the other hand I don't know how they arrived to my PC becasue option I stated for updates is "Download them but let me choose what to install".?Is there any way for me to discover where those 17 updates are and delete them?

Hello There - Ever since I upgraded to Win 10 the day it was released The HP driver download page, with the exception of the Bios ( Oct. 6, 2016 ), refuses to update their drivers. All of the drivers offered are anywhere from 15 to 19 months old, some of them were released only a couple weeks after win 10, which is ridiculas. Also the site seems to be missing several of the driver catagories period. The HPSA site is rather worthless also, since it has never updated a thing, including itself. Using the device manager is all right for doing a quick update here and there on occasion, but there are tons of related drivers and it becomes a drawn-out royal pain to go through all of them. As well as constantly going to vendor sites checking for newer updates. I have reset my PC to factory settings numerous times and still cant get any of the HP sites to cooperate at all. Please advise what I may be doing wrong or how I can find an up to date HP update page, or how I can force them to update themselves. I'll appreciate any and all suggestions - Thank You - GoldenG8 -

I recently (one week ago) made myself a dual-boot to Windows Vista SP2. I installed everything I needed and set the Windows updates to Automatically install updates. When I needed to make a video smaller (no need to talk about this in this thread) on Handbrake it said I needed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. I was surprised to see that. I went to see what Windows updates does and it wasn't checking for updates, as I set it to do. I started the check myself. I left it like that 30 minutes. When I closed my game, it was in the same state: checking for updates. So, I went to my .NET Framework 4 installer and, after 15 minutes, it gave an error: another installer is running. There were no installers, besides Windows update. So, I closed its process and let the installer run. After 15 minutes, it gave me an error (I don't remember the name of the error, I'll post it ASAP). So, I started researching, tried everything (MS FIXIT 50202, reset windows update history, reregister windows update components which gave me error 1060 and error 5 - error 5 is after trying MS FIXIT). I tried to "force" the .NET Framework 4 install by installing it step-by-step: 1.1  1.1 SP1  3.5  4. No succes. I AT LEAST need to install that .Net Framwork somehow. And the most interesting part is that my antivirus doesn't say that my OS is not up-to-date . SPECS: 6GB RAMAMD Athlon ll X4 750K 3.2-4.0 GHzAMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3

Answer:Windows update stuck at Checking for updates and can't install updates manually

Now it doesn't even give the error anymore. It just sits there and fake-installing .Net Framework.

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:

AMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3
Vista SP2
I don't know how to obtain CheckSUR.log.

Answer:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:
Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.
You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silver... This girl on our floor is getting all of the symptoms of the good ole blaster worm and it's 1 minute to reboot issues. I figured I could just windows update until I fix it.
So I install the updates. They install fine, no errors, and windows update says they're installed. Reboot, the same updates are listed. Try once again, and again it says the same ones are listed after I reboot. So I try through automatic updates, and, once again, the same thing. The updates just aren't installing besides saying that they are installed.
I then download the stand-alone blaster worm patch. Run it, and right after I click "I Agree" and hit next, the window just closes, no errors or anything. Try again, same thing. Try in safe mode, same thing.
I've never had a problem with this before, does anyone have any recommendations?

Answer:Windows Update installs updates, but they're still listed under updates

I had the same thing on a system I was working on. I ran Spybot and Ad-aware and cleaned off so much crap... But I had to let Spybot start at reboot to catch the app-killer. Try that and see if you can get those updates to take. It may be some nastiness in the box. Umm, no pun intended.

Every once in a while I will read that a update may cause problems to your computer and to remove it.

Recently update KB3133977 was reported that it was crashing certain mother boards.

Now for my problem/question.

I'm using windows 7. I go to my windows update, installed updates and wondering if I can search for a specific update. Surely there should be a way to search instead of having to scroll through all 335 updates.

I noticed the search box in the upper right corner and thought that would be the answer. So I tested it out by searching for an update I knew was listed but it did not find the update even though it was an installed update, so that wasn't the answer.

Tell me, if you are looking for a specific update, how do you guys find it? Is there a way to search or an easier way than having to scroll through your entire list of updates?

Thanks for any feedback

Answer:Finding a specific Windows 7 Update

Open up Windows 7 Updates.
Lower left corner tick on Installed Updates.
Upper Right corner (Search Installed Updates)
Type in or copy and pasted the KB number. (KB3133977)

It should either show the KB or state (No items match your search)

That method has always worked for me.

6 month old PC (Asus) PC desktop computer and a Samsung monitor.
When it's turned on the monitor flips between hdmi 1, 2 & analogue. I've tried different settings and different ports on the computer and it can't find it. I've bought a new hdmi cable but no luck. I've tried another monitor with no avail (TV with HDMI input and has PC, hdmi, AV source functions). Now it was working all fine until the Windows 10 was installed on it. So could this be the problem? If so how can I fix it or do I need to take it back to PC world? I'm not great at computer things but can basics.

Answer:Monitor not finding PC ? Since Windows 10 update?

This sounds like a driver problem. Have you checked for an updated Windows 10 driver?
Use the analogue cable and connectors on your PC and monitor, not the HDMI connectors. That should get your monitor working with a generic Windows 10 driver.

I would like to know if, with Windows 8.1 Update, there is a way to know if its installation has some of its corrupt file?

Answer:Finding corrupt file in an Windows 8.1 Update installation

The addition of Bye to your post kinda closes it.

It's always possible to have corruption in downloaded files but as we're moving away from Dial-Up Internet connections don't see it very often. The 8.1 Update is strictly a download from the Store for most users and automatically installs it would be presumed to be correct if Windows 8.1 Update completes then runs seemingly properly. I just did one, started the download on a Gateway before bed and all was good this morning. The Update wipes out the list of installed updates in Control Panel, Windows Update that were installed in 8.0 and I only had 6 updates to do today. I did have to do the 8.0 updates yesterday before 8.1 would start.

I would like to delete the failed updates list in Windows 7 Update.  I have done this in the past but forget exactly the process.
I think you go to Windows Folder-Software Distribution.  After deleting everyhting in the folder., i think you are to restart the computer.  Once finished the list of updates in Windows Update will be cleared.
Please correct if I am wrong.  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Answer:Failed Updates in Windows Update. Want to clear update list?

This is the way I suggest :
Go to start > type in cmd > right click at cmd.exe > Run as Administrator.
Type in "net stop WuAuServ" without quotes > hit enter.
Type in "start %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore" without quotes > hit enter. A folder will come up. Don't close that black window.
Rename file "DataStore" to "DataStoreold" without quotes.
Go to that black screen, Type in "net Start WuAuServ" without quotes > hit Enter. After it finished you can close it.
Now your Windows Update logs will now cleared.
Thank you.

So, I don't really know any details of what malware I may have on my computer other than its symptoms and the likelihood that it came through utorrent (which has since been taken off the computer). Basically, the problem began manifesting itself with the BSOD in Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I think I have taken care of that problem. The remaining symptoms of the malware are that windows and windows defender cannot update itself. Also, I cannot download any type of anti-virus update software or even the programs themselves. The updates just say they were unsuccessful. When I attempt to do a manual install/update of anti-virus or windows updates I get a "cannot connect to webpage". Sometimes, I will be redirected from an anti-virus download site to a random unaffiliated site. When I attempt to run a free online virus scan, the update will not work and therefore there is no ability to scan.

Thanks for whatever help you can offer. Eric

After installing Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade on a new seagate 320 g hdd on a Toshiba L300 Laptop with 32 bit that had Vista with latest SP on a 120gb hdd.then installing the sp1, the windows updater will not download and install updates. As it was I had to manually download the sp1 to a flash drive from my desktop and put it on the laptop. No problems there, but was hoping it would solve the Update problem, but didn't. I get the "Fail" error codes. 1. 80070570 and 2. 8007001F. I have 52+ KB updates and not one of them will download and install. Called MS help and for two days they had me try different things. They even took control of the computer and couldn't figure it out. I checked memory and did a chkdsk on the new HDD. In desperation for trouble shooting I put the Vista HHD back in and ran updates with no problems at all then I reinstalled the 320 G HHD. I didn't have a BSOD at all. But I downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials and when I did that I would get the BSOD for what ever reason. I had a hard time getting it uninstalled because as soon as you would start windows, within a few seconds I would get the BSOD. When I finally got the Security Essentials uninstalled the BSOD Went away. Have no Idea what one had to do with the other. I just want to get the updater to work. Any Help

Have you tried setting Windows Update to not Download updates?
You could also set it to not check for updates while you are on holiday.
For MSE definitions, open MSE and update from there.

I am using Windows Update API (WUApiLib) in C# to get available updates. And it appears that it displays some driver updates while Windows Update application tells that the device is up to date.

It returns me this (I'm using ASUS laptop):

In my Ult. Vistax64, Windows update hangs. I tried numerous fixes from Microsoft (MrFixIt) and others. nothing seems to fix it, including a full system image restore from a month ago.

System Restore also seems to have had its restore points deleted as there are only two recent saved restore points/images.

And I have noticed that after booting up, and perhaps at other times, my CPU usage goes to 100%. Both the Windows update service is running (wuauserv) - see pic - and when I stop it, CPU usage gets better.

what is a bit concerning is that my McAfee virus is also taking up CPU usage as if transfer activity over the internet is heavy. No viruses are found, either via real-time scanning or if I run a manual scan on the hard drives.

I have also run an sfc /scannow , there are a lot of PendingRenames, which seem to be from the sfc command fixing errors, as well as a lot of "duplicate ownership...", which is sort of scary to see when I have a problem with my computer.

Besides the failure of the windows Update, the SFC /scannow keeps finding corrupt files and repairing them, and it does not seem just limited to a few that "are erroneously marked as corrupt" and not a problem, according to research into these problems.
The computer seems to be working fine, but not being able to install updates is a problem, and the high CPU usage is suspicious. Any help would be appreciated.

What kind of updates for a DVD drive?
Firmware updates are few and far between, I've never seen a drive with the ability to look for them on it's own, that's usually something a third party software program would do.

Hi everyone,  this is my first post on HP's forums. I created an account just for this issue, hopefully I don't break any rules. I have a Pavilion DV7t-6b00 running Windows 7 32-bit. My laptop's fan has always been extremely noisy, constantly running, and pretty hot as almost everyone who has purchased this laptop has observed, and I recently came across this potential fix: it requires having up-to-date BIOS and then adjusting a fan setting, which I'm completely capable of doing on my own IF I could access the most recent version of BIOS for my system (assuming there's a more recent version available for my system, I'm not sure). The trouble is when HP identifies my laptop (which it identified correctly as far as I can tell) and it shows the list of available drivers and what not, they're all 64-bit versions, with no 32-bits available. I'm unsure if this simply means there isn't a 32-bit available, or if HP misidentified my operating system. When I gave the site my OS it didn't ask for clarification on 32/64 bit, it just wanted to know if I was running Vista/7/8/10 etc.I called HP and eventually got to a point where I was told I'd have to pay $50 to connect to the next level of tech support, which I think is ridiculous considering I'm not asking to "baby'd" through the process of updating my BIOS, I'm sure I can figure it out on my own; I simply need the... Answer:Need Help With finding driver updates for my motherboard

There are a couple of possible reasons for computers to randomly restart. I think this is a pretty good troubleshooting thread for random crashes (of course I do.... I wrote it! )

Take a look through there, as it is highly likely that ONE of those things listed is the cause of your problems.

Good luck!

i am not sure if this is a software question or if it would fit in here, but i figured people that know about drives would be the ones to ask first.
i usually don't do much more than go to dell, or the respective company for the driver... but i was wondering if there were any freeware(hopefully), or even worthwhile(for that matter) programs to keep you up on updates for your various drivers.
i have seen some pay programs that claim to find all your driver updates, but i would question if there is any free ones. also, i think i have heard some say that they prefer to get the drivers from the manufacturers individually, but i wonder if there is any potential hard in using any program to find your driver updates.

thanks for any advice, and i will move it to software section if needed.

Answer:program for finding your driver updates...

Drivers really don't need to be updated, if you are not having problems with them.
And then, they only need updating, if the update fixes the problem you are having.

I've tried downloading 3 that said they were free, the last was Driver Update, but cannot find a free one. Is there such a thing, or am I asking too much? I know I usually find free this or that, which I don't expect miracles for that price.

Can anyone recommend a MG download that is totally Freeware, no strings attached?

Thanks so much, Denise

Answer:Help in finding FREE driver updates?

I'm not sure which drivers you need but you should download & try running "Snappy Driver Installer", it'll detect all your hardware that needs drivers & install them all for you in a few clicks. Its a very big file but its worth the wait. You can create a system restore point too before you choose to install the drivers in case something goes wrong, but I've used it twice now with no problems and I think its a well recommended utility. It saved me many hours of searching for drivers!

Hope it helps!

I'm using FF 16.0.1 but it has been like this for me since the past several versions of FF, I've had to manually re-download every extension periodically. Can't find an answer by googling. In about:addons I click the Tools button and then "Check for Updates." It says "Updating add-ons" then "No updates found" (even when my versions are outdated) If I right-click an individual extension and click "Find updates", it briefly says "Checking for updates" then nothing happens. One thread I read somewhere said it could be a problem parsing the rdf file. But the only changes I make to the rdf files is to tweak the maxVersion. And updating fails for all extensions, not just the ones whose rdf files I edited.

Answer:Solved: Firefox not finding extension updates

Doh, this was in my prefs.js: user_pref("extensions.update.enabled", false); Gee I wonder why my extensions weren't updating! Hah but I didn't add that entry myself and don't know how it got there. Anyway now it's gone so yay

I am helping a friend get her computer up to date.
I installed and ran Belarc advisor and found 5 missing security updates. I was able to find and install one of them,  a CAPICOM windows update.
However, I would like help with the other four. Her computer is WIndows XP sp3. She has Windows Explorer 8.
 EOL Adobe reader
CPU Jan 2015 1972971 for Java 32 bit
CPA Jan 2015 1972971 for Java 6.0.320.5 32 bit
KB2538243 Windows update
Belarc says the first is an End of Life and there is no update from provider. Not sure what one is supposed to do. Next two are listed as critical, the fourth one is listed as important.,
Any help or advice is appreciated. I am not all that versed in computers so feel free to be fairly basic in your reply.
Thank you!
By the way I am writing this on her computer.

Answer:finding and inserting missing security updates

Hello there,I have never heard of Belarc Advisor - my choice is Secunia Personal Software Inspector which will analyze your machine for outdated software and assist you in updating them. For Windows updates, you can use the in-built Windows Update function to find out if there are any updates left. Since support for Windows XP has ceased, there aren't any more new updates issued for that OS.If you need me to clarify anything, do not hesitate to do so.Alex

I just updated Spybot 1.4 to the latest updates (2005-07-30) and ran a scan. It found a Registry Change in the Windows Security Center that looks like this...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntiVirusOverride!=dword:0

I did some research and found this post on another forum

Anyone else finding similar results pertaining to Window Security Center after updating Spybot 1.4?

Answer:Latest Spybot Updates Finding False Positives?

It's not really a false positive. It's detecting the fact that the security alerts have been turned off that would normally advise you if your firewall and anti-virus programs weren't working. This could have been done intentionally by yourself or by some malicious program. I'm sure you can tell Spybot to ignore it if you set it up this was intentionally in the Security Centre.

Hi, I am trying Windows 7 professional 64bit is trying to update my PC now for the umpteenth time. I ask it to download and update. It tells me that it has updated and needs to restart. When it restarts, it has a couple of attempts at configuring the updates and lets me use Windows. When I turn my PC off, I get a 'Do not turn off, etc'. When I start my PC and check to see if the install worked, I am told it hasn't, any clues please?

Answer:Windows 7 updates don't update

I have been through this today and fixed mine.
There are ways MS suggests when you right click on the failed updates and read the help files that contain links to MS downloadable tools of sorts.
After reading about and trying some of the tools with no success I took a hint I read between the lines about running the one with "service pack" in its name alone. I had 10 updates available one of which had service pack in its title. It was "Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243)"

I ran it alone and it took. Remaining were 4 security and 4 updates for windows and an IE9 update.

I then tried the 4 updates for windows alone and they failed.

Long story short, I tried some alone until they started working and got them all in.
Look at my screen shot and see the order in which I used. The order goes from the bottom up. The Hot Fix you see is one of MS's suggestions I tried that changed nothing.

As long as this is not every time eh?

hi HussinBhy,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
With Windows 8 there was a certain service that has to be disabled "Nalperion Service" then proceed with the updates manually by 4 or by 5 updates only
If Windows 7, You just have to make sure your Antivirus is not blocking anything by disabling them temporarily
and most of all Try installing it by 4 or by 5 updates only,  as it may be overlapping some updates if you will install everything at same time.

I have been manually updating these for well over a year now. I would really like to find out and fix why win update doesn't find these critical updates automatically.

When sp3 came out I had a heck of a time getting it to work with this desktop and it is possible it had something to do with this problem.

I've got a Windows 7 fresh installation, and the first thing I did was to try to update my windows. The problem is that windows keeps checking for updates without coming up with any results (and I did wait a lot).

I had to change my HDD, because the previous one failed altogether. I wouldn't see why there could be any compatibility issues. I have a HP Pavilion dv5-1141en and the hdd inside is a 500GB Seagate. The previous one was a 320GB WD.

I tried resetting my windows update components (, but it didn't work.

I really have no idea where to go from here. It's weird, given that the installation is new.

Appreciate any suggestions,

Thank you!

Those are basically the 3 drivers that i update including security updates. By using wushowhide, i can see the drivers updates that have been block such as intel pci serial port root, watchtimer and lpc controller and etc. Does it improve performance or should i leave it alone? What does updating those driver do?

Answer:Windows Update Driver Updates

I can only speak for myself, others may have different views. I recently had a number of problems related to Windows 10 Updates [including drivers].

For the present my policy is to go directly to the relevant manufacturer for driver updates. A review over a number of forums, Intel in particular reveals Intel and Microsoft apparently unable to resolve problems caused by updates. I'll stick with Intel for the moment.

My PC (running XP) doesn't seem to want to allow installation of 3 fairly recent Windows Updates (KB840374, KB828035 and KB824141). They appear to download ok - but all fail at the installation stage. I've tried to install them all several times without success.Any clues anyone ??Many ThanksMCPR82

Answer:Windows Update - 3 Updates won't Install

Check if they are in the add/remove programs applet. If so, remove then and reboot. Then try to install them one at a time: after the first, reboot and then go for the next. Do them in order of age.

In amongst today's round of updates was KB3075853

The details of what these updates do is never specified.

Specifically, I would like to know whether these are a 'back-door' for future W10 compatibility checks and upgrades. I haven't installed this update, and unless I can be 100% certain it isn't W10 related then I shall keep it hidden.

Answer:What exactly are 'Windows Update Client' Updates for ?

The windows update client is the actual windows update program itself.

Every so often Microsoft will issue an update to the update system based on the feedback and telemetry they receive from users who have update failures, or to patch possible vunrabilities.

Today it dawned on me i had not seen any windows updates in quiet some time and also my AV Eset had not indicated updates were available either. When attempting to check updates via control panel it hung for quiet some time with a blue spinning circle the eventually took me to the check for updates screen which is red. After clicking the update button i received the dreaded notice"Windows cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running",after readiing up on the problem i have tried the various Microsoft fixes that state they have fixed various problems but still cant update,i have tried stopping the update service and deleting the software folder and restarting the update service but still nothing.
At a guess i think the last updates i did was the November ones which finished with a some updates failed to install properly.
I have also tried the downloads Brink has posted on the site but this has not resolved the problem so i guess its over to you guys/gals to try and help me fix this problem.
Thanks in advance.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop that runs Windows Vista SP1. Last Monday it had shut down and the only thing I could do was to reformat and install Vista. I checked in BIOS and the hard drive was recognized. There are 3 gigs of RAM recognized. After installing, I was able to install all the drivers and all looks well in the Device Manager. I put Microsoft Security Essentials on and updated the virus definitions. I thought the next thing I should do is to install Windows Updates. That is where my problem started. When I first checked it showed 9 updates that needed to be installed. As I've done installation before I knew that wouldn't be all but after the installation I checked and all were installed and showed as successful in the Windows Update History. After that I checked again and it showed 111 updates. I went ahead and started the installation of the 111. All were installed and after restarting and having windows complete all three steps of installation I checked and the Windows Update History shows that the files have failed. I don't think that is possible as I saw successful insulation.

I am going to assume that they were installed. Is there a way I can erase the Windows Update HIstory so I won't see the failed installations? I know I've done that once before but it has been a long time and I just don't remember.

Thanks in advance for any and all help. I really appreciate it.

Hi Guys,
I have the same 4 updates for the last 2weeks to be updated every time I used windows update. They are for Netframework 2.0...Kb2656352, kb2518864, kb2572073 and kb 2539631. They have a green tick saying they have been installed in Windows update history. They are installed in add and remove programs.

I have done everything in the Microsoft help page I.E downloading the 4 updates and installing them in safe mode.Uninstalling them and reinstalling them. Using Microsoft fix it and Microsoft Fix it 50202.

Should I just hide the updates?

Are they really installed properly?

Is there some other fix so they won't show up next time I search for the lastest updates on Windows update website?

any ideas?

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows Update same 4 updates?

run the dotnetfx-cleanup-tool uninstall all versions of .NET Framework. Go back to Windows Update and download all of the .NET Frameworks in the proper order, leaving 4.0 and 4.5 for last.

I have just upgrade my operating system from Vista to Windows 7.

I am finding that Windows Update is not loading any updates. It just seems to hang. All the computer is saying is "Downloading Updates" and every thing stays at 0%.

Updates worked fine with Vista.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Answer:Windows Update is not loading updates

Hi thermite, welcome to the forums

How long have you kept it at the 'Downloading' stage? I have noticed that depending on some updates I have experienced an extended 0% stage but after a while it began at well above 30%.

Windows Update has become erratic, currently gets stuck in the "looking for updates" phase. I have followed the instructions on this forum titled "Windows Update Posting Instructions." Ran the SURT with no issues reported. The SFC scan came back clean as well. There are no error codes like the example shown, on the WU screen, but at one point there was a pop-up box (I believe in conjunction with Windows Update Standalone Installer) with error 0x8024001e which may or may not now be resolved. The MS Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool has not helped. Also along the way I was advised to install Hotfix for Windows KB947821, which I did. Compressed CBS file will not upload to this post because it is too large (about 6MB).

All this is way above my pay grade as a non-tech user, but I think I have followed the instructions correctly. Any wisdom greatly appreciated!

I noticed last night that Windows Update had 55 updates to download.  Upon further inspection, it said updates were last downloaded sometime in November.
I have run the Windows Update Troubleshooting; it resolved some items, but not others (forgot to take a screenshot).  Now Windows Update says I have never even checked for updates.
Following the advice on other threads, I selected only 2 of the updates, then let it run overnight.  I woke up this morning to ZERO percent complete.  Ugh.
I'm able to view pages on Internet Explorer and Chrome without issue, and MalwareBytes was able to update just fine.  What next?

Answer:Windows Update not downloading updates

Download the Windows Update Readiness Tool and run it.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth give me no errors, repaired with image_health tool of this forum. SFC /Scannow gives me unable to fix some of the corrupted files, here log.SFC Details.txt

Answer:I Can't Find Updates With Windows Update

RE : SFC /Scannow gives me unable to fix some of the corrupted files

Please run this image restorehealth command............................
In the same Command Prompt (Admin) windows, copy and paste this command...........

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

> press Enter.
Again it will take some time.
When finished, it will give you a report.

If it fails to finish and you get an error message " sources file could not be found ", then use this Tech Bench link below and download the ISO file. You need to do that because you need the Install.wim file which only Tech Bench will provide.

Once you have the iso downloaded, right click at the ISO > click Mount > leave it there.
Then open the same command prompt (Admin), and copy and paste this................

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:H:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

Note : H is the drive where the iso is mounted. Change it if your driver letter is different.

When it is completed, you should get the report that the operation is successful.
Now run the sfc /scannow again. It should be ok this time.
