I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

I bought a Lenovo Z360 Ideapad in Aug 2010 and have been facing Hybernate and Sleep problems since then.First I thought it could be a software / service effecting this but I tried everything to rectify this problem.I also observed a trend... when ever I use the laptop for more than 2 hours... the system temperature goes high... I cant put the pc in my lap and thats when I try to put it to sleep or hybernate or even shut it down the laptop operations are all shut down all the way till the screen goes blank but then the fan start running very fast and then just doesn't stop... I have to hard boot it to shut it down... this really scares me as my windows crashed once already... and I am afraid one day the hard drive and windows it will go down completely and I may loose all data...   After this I reported the problem to customer care... they try to resolve it online and over the phone but nothing helped..worse was when I try to contact them and try to explain the problem... they would just as me to change the power settings...I tell them all the time that I have already checked and changed them but they would not listen...I asked them to get this problem rectified and they would just say its gonna take some 20 days or so... which is ridiculous... I told them I don't have another pc with me and cant work without a PC and they would have no answer...finally I asked them for a replacement for this laptop and they said they will call me back with an answer after check... Dear Readers,  Thanks for reading my post!  My Lenovo laptop has a sleep/fan problem that remains unfixed even after sending it in to tech support twice. About 15-20% of the time, the laptop does not go into normal sleep mode. Instead, the lights remain on, the fan increases its speed, and there is no way to turn the laptop back on without forcefully shutting it down (holding the power button down). This state occurs more often when it is lower in battery power. I have sent my laptop to the regular warranty tech support and then to the headquarters, but the problem still remains. This is so frustrating. However, I did write my password on the form required to be sent with the laptop. I suppose they lost it. I recently purchased an OEM Winxp cd with legit key on ebay..and wondering if microsoft will be able to help me with this oem version (to my understanding, oem is for manufacturers only, it's why i'm wondering if they will give me support).

As I need a fairly quick response to this I am doing it in this panel as well.I am about to buy a new computer from Dell.Is it worth taking on the Dell 3 Year Consumer Hardware Support Package and having to face hours of stressful Indian Call Centres OR its it best just to have the 1 Year Base Warranty and fend for myself after that ?Thanks

We just bought this PC http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04812516 We installed a gtx 750 Ti and its drivers and it worked just fine. After a few months, we then decided to upgrade to a gtx 970 so we got a CX500 power supply from Corsair.I installed the gtx 970 and plugged in all the necessary power connectors to the card as well.The 970's fans and LED turns on but there is no feed to the monitor.So I switch the monitor's cable from the gtx 970 I/O to the motherboard's onboard video(realizing the motherboard isn't switching to the card's output) and check device manager.Device Manager doesn't even detect the card.I then reinstall the 750 Ti with its drivers and it works fine again. I uninstall the 750 Ti and its drivers then try again with the 970 and nothing. We bought the 970 off of ebay. The seller claimed that the card had been inspected and tested to work, but I can't get it to work.I don't know If I'm doing something wrong or if the card is dead on arrival. Please help.Someone suggested to me to update the motherboard's bios, but I think I already have the latest bios version for the Odense motherboard. Is this motherboard designed to take on the gtx 970 or am I limited?

Just made a clean installation of Win7 Ultimate-N SP1 32x (from MS media) and as soon I install the chipset package (the first thing I do) Win7 cannot go into hibernation. Not even after installing Power Manger driver and Power Manager software. Hibernation works before installing the chipset package.Who to blame? Me, Intel or Lenovo?Any help?

Answer:T430s, newest chipset package (9.3.0.10.21) doesn't support hibernation :-(

I'd have to say you. Since you did not go through and confirm or change the situations in which hibernation will take place in the Power Manager. It controls it and not windows. Works for everyone else.

I have a T-61P running Windows XP SP2.  Within the past month, my System Updater started returning"Error 75 received from the Package Index Server.  Please contact the Support Center"I uninstalled System Update and downloaded and installed again from the Lenovo site.  Still displays same error message.  I get 20% into the update when the error message pops up. Any suggestions.Thank You!

i currently have a dell Inspiron 5558 laptop for over an year now but the screen stop working over 6 months ago, i looked up the warranty information at the time of screen stopped working and was re-assured that it showed February 18, 2017 therefore i did not consider that it is very urgent to call tech support since i have other laptops. today when i call the support service, i was informed that product was not registered and i have to pay $233 to replace the LCD screen, they still argued that dell warranty website showed the correct information but when i looked it up, the website still displays the same.  did anyone else encounter this issue??

 I bought TPS230U in may2013, and one monthe ago, the laptop just turned off by itself and wont turn on anymore. I had tried troubleshoop refresh and resetting options but it doesnt work.
My warranty certificate is still valid for itnernational support (now I live in  Brazil), so that, I called Brazilīs support (My laptop ID is: Type 3347 2GU S/N xxxxxxx 13/02.
At the first time I contacted by phone, the attendant asked me to (once again) turn off the laptop  and call back again. Well, I did it, adn (of course) it didnt work. So I called once again. The second the new clerk said I should buy a cd or dvd ( which could not be via USB stick ) , download from other computer and copy  an image file  that lenovo would understand the problem . I explained that I had not cd to record that moment. But he was very rude, and told me that it the  support goes to my house and concludes that there is a software problem and not hardwa, I was supposed to pay for the visit. So, I went to a store and bought a recordable CD , recorded the ISO file and got home to insert it into the laptop and....for my surprise,  my laptop doenst have any  entry for CD ! I feel that lenovo has been really disrespectfull with me and all I want is to have a simple support to my laptop, but I still couldnt have. Pleaase let me know how can I solve this problem before my waranty term expires!!!

The only supported card on this model is Intel 7260 2x2, 802.11 BGN .and the applicable BIOS version is 96CN29WW (V1.15)

I keep receiving calls from fake MICROSOFT Tech support with various telephone numbers. Strange, they do not show up in my phone on line logs. They wanted me to go to FASTSUPPORT\763721586 ( do not use  these numbers). It is a company  called FASTSUPPORT.com. they also give you a complaint department where you can enter the number that you feel is causing you problems, the number of the LOGMEINRESCUE type remote access code. of course it is clear to them that you are suspicious and they will get rid of the  phone operator who didn't succeed. So do not bother to leave any complaint.

I have a T430s laptop and it is less than 6 months old. It starting getting blue screens within a month of purchasing it. Technical support has been helpless in trying to fix the laptop. First, tech support told me to turn update my computer daily. Then another tech support employee told me to turn OFF my auto updates. This did nothing and over a few weeks the blue screens progressively got worse. Next, tech support told me to run a diagnostic on my computer which turned up nothing. Then, they tried giving me recovery discs and a new hard drive. After that failed they took it in to replace the system board which made the blue screens worse. Then they sent me MORE recovery CDs to try to fix the problem and that also made the blue screens worse. I called tech support after this and they said they would send in a request for a replacement laptop. I was told I would hear from someone in a couple days. FIVE days later I got a called from someone asking if I wanted a replacement and I said yes. Then I was told I had to wait two more business days to get contacted about it. Another 3-4 business days later, someone called me to tell me that they would NOT be replacing the laptop despite the fact tech support could not fix the laptop. After calling tech support once again, I was told that they wanted me to send in my laptop again for up to 7 business days! This is completely unacceptable. I have just sent a thinkpad back for repair for the first time in over 20 years of owning  Thinkpad.  I have had 8 thinkpad  series laptops in my time as well as a few desktops and now lenovo phones. I am absolutely horrified with the diabolical Thinkpad support. This is meant to be business level support. I feel like I am phoning up Curry's.  Laptop sent back with hard disk in it and I am being told now that it "turned up without a hard disk in it". Now undercurrent of me lying. Original problem had not been assessed and I still don't have my laptop back after 3 weeks. Customer service agents just tell you anything they want to get you off the phone. I suppose all things come to an end but my loyalty to the Thinkpad brand is probably over now.  I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone else come across this?

Well, now that I've installed the latest 2/16/2007 Windows x64 Components of VCP 4.2.7 (which should now be given its own version system since you no longer need to install VCP 4.2.7) I can now watch the few Xvids I have using Media Center. The only thing I have an issue with the green 'nigh vision' effect I get when I try to enable resizing. Otherwise, it's looking good so far. Get it here.

Latest updates include subtitles in MediaCenter. To enable subtitle displays in x64players [MediaCenter] go into the VistaCodecs\64bit Tools folder and open the Gabest Direct Vobsub icon. Go to the General TAB and under Loading select Always load. I recommend you do not leave it set to this because in my testing, this setting also inhibits some DivX movies from functioning properly. Selecting Load when needed doesnt work in x64players.

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem. 
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.  
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP

I clean installed windows 7 on my Y650. Then camera is not working, microphone is not working (even if I use external microphone, it is not working). I tried using vista driver but not working. is there any way to make them work? really frustrated ...

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

I paid for 3 years of support and accidental damage in home support. Together, it cost around $400 on my new XPS laptop. Afew months after I bought XPS 15 9560, I pulled out the charging cord, and a round piece of plastic that was inside the port came out too.
I called technical support at 5 pm EST, and received someone in Southern India. I gave them my information, and they confirmed that I had service. They then fought with me for 15 minutes, telling me I could NOT have any in home service. The representative, who kept calling me by my first name (no respect)  said I had to send my laptop to a depot in Texas for them to identify the issue. Finally, after I insisted, the representative, S. Sirya Kiran, FINALLY allowed me to get in home support IF I sent him photos of the damage. I did. Finally, I received an email telling me to select a date for service, which I did, 12/18/17 between 9 am and 1:00 pm .
I took time off and waited. No one came by 11:30, or called. So I contacted World Wide Tech Services. They then told me they didn't have enough techs to handle my area, so they were NOT coming. I asked why no one gave me the courtesy of a phone call and they had no answer. They said a new company, Unisys, would contact me. (I doubt they ever will.)
Is this what Dell gives people for their money as far as support and accidental damage in home service for $400? This is an outrage.

Someone told me in another thread, and I also read here, that



All Wireless N routers support dual-band 802.11nClick to expand...

implying that any wireless N router can use the 5 GHz band as well as the 2.4 GHz band. Isn't that the implication?

Then why is it that when I browse routers, only some of them list both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency, while others list only 2.4 in the specs? I want to switch my network over to 5 GHz in order to get away from all the interference I'm getting, as discussed in this thread.

So what's the real answer? Will any cheap "wireless N" router be able to do 5 GHz, (e.g. this one?) or do I need a more expensive dual band one?

No. The 802.11n standard supports 5GHz, but does not require it. Now if a device was 802.11ac, it will have a 5GHz radio since that standard only works on that freq.

Hello there, I'm interested in finding out more about the X220 - In particular the actual bandwidth available to the i7 Version of the X220 with it's USB 3 port. I'd like to be able to use the Black Magic Design Intensity Shuttle with this laptop, however it requires a Super Speed USB 3.0 Port. It's common for laptops to only use a single PCIe lane interconnect, giving the USB3 Port only 2.5gbps of available bandwidth. This won't be enough to allow that capture card to work  A similar situation also exists for the Expresscard slot - To be able to support Expresscard v2.0, It needs to provide 5gbps (2x PCIe v1 lanes). If it does this, It's possible I can buy an USB 3 Expresscard which will have enough bandwidth to use the card. In short I would like to know if the super speed USB 3 port can actually function at the intended speed, and is not crippled to half rate.

When I installed Win8 on one computer I need a H.P. printer driver. So I went to H.P. support/download did not find the needed driver so I called their Tech. support. A friendly support guy looked at my system and told me my copy of Microsoft Win8 bought at Best Buy was not a legit copy, also my system had been infected and they needed to remove my Win8 clean my system and reinstall Win8. made me a deal of a reduced price of $250US I knew this was not right so I begged them good buy went to Best Buy where I have good friends in the Geek Squad. they got the needed driver and printer works fine.
Today my Netgear routher died, called Netgear to get my lifetime warranty. This also was a support in India guy said it would cost $39US to make sure it was the router I said thanks but no thanks. Took my old Netgear router back to Best Bye where I bought it three years ago and they gave me a new Netgear router. I needed setup help so called Netger as new user also in India guy was friendly looked at my system and helped me get it setup. Then he informed me my computer was under attack and my files were being read he could fix my system and protect my files for the small sum of just $85US. Well I was using a small backup H.P. computer on the Net. hardwired and it was almost never used. So I knew it was a India Tech. support scam again.

This is a General question regarding the end of support for XP. I realise at the end date the computer should be backed up in case you have to format the disc at any time after the end of the support period.

My question is does the built in Windows back up in XP when backing up the system include the installed updates? Or is it best to use third party software to do this.

I believe Windows just backs up your personal files and won't do the entire OS. You'll need a 3rd party program to do the entire HDD.

Also you really should think about upgrading to Windows 7. Staying on XP after the end support date is not recommended as you will lose security updates from Microsoft as well as patches.

So I am sitting here on my MacBook Pro which in my opinion does not have any wireless issues whatsoever, it works. I still own this ThinkPad with a garbage wireless card, and I feasted my eyes on an Intel 7260 but lo and behold, it isn't on the whitelist! Scouring eBay and Amazon I did find a FRU, but would the number of that FRU be the same on the Hardware list? Lets see, well I cannot even find it. All I get are Page Not Found errors which to me is a hilarious joke of Lenovo's support. What does this mean for me? Is my X230 at a very very unnecessary end of life? Should I like, fork out Ģ1400 for an "upgraded" model that probably won't fix most of my problems? My problems is money and saving money. Should i now look elsewhere? No, because I'd rather keep my money to actually FIX my current laptop's problems (the N2200 is a garbage card and would like to replace it with something that's up to date to todays technology but that isn't happening by the sounds of it) I am frustrated with my current laptop's problems and it's having a large effect on my studies. And possibly you can also lose customers by inadequate non-existent support and failure to give us the freedom to actually let us upgrade for those who do. For those who don't, more like.

Some how my old friend managed to upgrade my PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 with that chipset driver CD I gave him. I don't know how he did it. I would ask him but he moved to Germany. Anyway I've heard you can run the setup with Windwos Vista compatiblity mode but I don't know if it is safe. Anyone know?

Download the drivers from the manufacturers website. The driver CD is likely outdated anyway.

I have a Thinkpad T450s and it is just over a year old. It still has 3 more years of warranty. Edit: Warranty type: TPJ (This product has a four year limited warranty which includes a warranty upgrade. This product is entitled to parts and labor and is entitled to Depot service).Recently the lenovo solution center gave an critical error for the HDD (Read test failure) and I submitted an online request reporting it. Without even sending me an email or contacting me, they sent me a new part and gave me zero information about it. Apparently every other person can replace a HDD now!  I have created 3 more cases calling their tech support to send the laptop for a depo repair. Everytime the request is rejected 'at the vendor' according to the customer care. Neither the customer care people or tech support can tell me why. Every time they create a new case, tell me I will receive a depo bag nect day, and I dont receive anything, have to call depo customer care and on hold for minimum 40 minutes, only to hear that the case has been rejected they dont know why.One tech support told me now I have to send the new part back before creating a new case, otherwise it will be rejected again. but he does not know how I can send the new part back. The return label sent to me was for the faulty HDD.Can anyone help? What is the point of paying for warranty if I receive this type of service?

My PC Dell Aurora R4 won't update properly due to it not being on the list of windows 10  creator supported drivers PC from dell. Does anyone one know if dell is going to correct this matter.
This is urgent as this leaves me as a customer vulnerable, due to the W10 System of queuing downloads and there is a security one that is waiting.
I have checked directly with Microsoft Technicians and they confirm this is the issue "No Driver support for Aurora R4 Listed, W10  Creators edition. Can dell Update an then inform us a the machines cost a pretty penny and are meant to be future proofed with drivers even without a warranty. Thank you. Hey guys I have acer laptop. I got some issue with USB ports so acer service center engg came to my house and after opening the screw he said hings are broken. That's it and fix the USB ports issue and went. After 2days my laptop's back body start breaking and when I call acer support they said we are not allowed to register on hardware issue. It took a month to register one compliant . And they never bother about that. They are like it's hardware issue you have to pay.. My laptop is in warranty period and It not my mistake boz I never had issue of hing n ol. Now it's almost 3 month over still they are like we will update you in 2 days.Worst services ever I seen is acer.

hello to everyone!!

im working as a tech support agent for one of the biggest ISP in the US.. its a good paying job and also very challenging.. i use to troubleshoot internet connection issues for residential accounts (1 pc only) and for all other issues that i get, i browse for similar issues on the forums of this site.. well, most of them came pretty handy (esp for the security forums).. now, i got transferred to the networking department and im in a total loss!! i can do simple troubleshooting and install assists for new networking users but i really need help in issues like:
1. remote access/ port forwarding
2. invalid IP addresses on the wireless devices
3. file and printer sharing
i was browsing through all the topics but i cant find any.. if there is someone out there who can help me with this issue and give me some pointers on how i am going to do this in an easier way.. i would really appreciate any assistance..

Dell Support "Assist" just ran without giving me an option to stop, pause, or control in anyway.  It was using nearly all computer resources (I could barely save the word document I had open at the time).  This isn't "assist" more like computer take over.

How can I control the S. "Assist"?  How can I adjust the time between it's runs (currently it looks like monthly)?  After finishing it's scan or whatever it finally closed (cuz it wouldn't close the 20 times or so I clicked the "X").  I then opened it, looking for some results of the scan, and found none.  How can I view results?

Right now, seems like worthless bloatware.

Also, there is not a [New Post] button on the Laptop Forum (at least for me).

I purchased the Lenovo brand because it offered many more features then the competitors within the price range we needed.  My son needed it for school so of course we went with the i7 processor because we were told it was the best and wanted to ensure we didn't have an outdated computer within the next few years when our other children would begin to use it.
 
Our computer is not charging and I have contacted every department I could think of and was referred to some others along the way.  I am very stressed and upset on how my problem/question is being handled.  I was hoping to get everything resolved before school starts again on Jan 3rd so my son doesn't fall behind.

I purchased my lenovo ideapad y560 in 2010.  Upon arrival it did not work and I had to send it back for a replacement (this order# 2FL8RF  S/N ******** was ordered 9/13/2011 shipped 9/17/2011 a return authorization generated 9/23/2011 and you received the unit back on 10/23-10/24/2011).
 
 My new one came and the start date of warranty was 10/6/2010.  A few months in I called in again for the blue system screen and was told I had to restore my computer with the restore button which I did even though I lost all of my work and applications.

1. It is just the laptop box. The laptop itself has 0 cushioning, just 2 pieces of plastic to hold it in place and a piece of cardboard under it which also houses the manuals.2. Can't help you there.3. I believe there is a sticker on the thing that says "Do not deliver if box is damaged" on all laptops because they have Li ion batteries. Call Lenovo if it is damaged.4. Yes, if you contact them. You have 21 days from the day that it ships from the warehouse, normally, I believe. I think this also means that if it took 20 calender days to actually make it to your house, you have only 1 day left, but I'm sure that Lenovo will be understanding enough if you report it promptly.5. Highly doubt it, for both parts.Don't be paranoid about it. If it arrives damaged, take it up with UPS or Lenovo. Worrying will not help you or change the fact that it may arrive damaged. Most, as in probably almost all, laptops ship undamaged, so I wouldn't worry about it.

So Im trying to get Win7 RC1 x64 to work on my laptop with a Radeon x700 in it and can't seem to find any working drivers or "trick" the system into using drivers. Thus I am stuck with the "default graphic card" (or whatevers its called) crap. Everything else works great on the laptop except that.

 I use my contact folder extensively. It used to search (find) email addresses in the contact form to link to a contact where I didn't have a name associated with it. After doing a re-install, it won't search the email field for addresses entered into it. Thanks.

Outlook 2000 oversize pst loses contacts when I run 2GBpst and scan for errors. It also loses Inbox. I would like to import contacts at least from the oversize file. When I run import in Outlook 2000 it askes for the entire pst. How can I import just contacts??

Hi, I'm trying to add the November, 2016 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3197868) to out install.wim using DISM offline because the same install is failing using the Scheduled Updates process in Config Manager.
Some pertinent (I think) lines from the DISM.log include:
DISM Package Manager: PID=2868 Failed while processing command add-package. - CPackageManagerCLIHandler::ExecuteCmdLine(hr:0x8000ffff)
DISM.EXE: DISM Package Manager processed the command line but failed. HRESULT=8000FFFF
Anyone seen this problem before or had success adding the Security Monthly Quality Rollup updates either via DISM or Scheduled Updates?

WinXP Home, SP3Yesterday I received an update for 'Silverlight'. But when I clicked to install, it disapeared from the Task Bar. I thought Oh it's going to do it when I shut down. But I wanted it to do it then, not later.So I thought I'll download it manually...>Start >Help and Support >Windows Update >Help and Support Center >Express "Cannot display the page.The Web page you are trying to view cannot be displayed. Please try again later, or try another page"At the end of my PC session yesterday, a message popped up from Silverlight! Saying that the update had downloaded and was ready to update.Once again it disapeared from the task bar and nothing! I closed down as normal. This morning, the PC loaded normally and I didn't receive any notification to say it had, could or couldn't load load Silverlight.So again I tried...>Start etc, etc, and I got the same message 'Try again later'? What's happening, can you get it?

I can no longer get to the help and support section from the start button. I have recently added AWC(Advanced Window Care) proffesional and have stopped some services from running, but none that said help and support that I remember. I get a message that says Windows cannot start Help and Support because a system service is not running. To fix this problem start the service " Help and Support" I can still get to the restore to an earlier state from the AWC program. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello:

You can manually start and stop services using the Computer Management console.

What you want to do:
Start >> Right-click My Computer >> Select Manage
OR
Start >> Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Computer Management

This will bring up the Computer Management console.

You want to navigate to the Services and Applications node in the left hand pane. Click on the + sign to expand the node and select Services. Click on anything in the right hand pane and navigate to the Help and Support service. Under normal circumstances, this service is started automatically as a Local System service. Right-click it to bring up the shortcut menu and choose Properties.

Once you are in the Properties applet for the Help and Support service, check to see what the Startup type: pull-down menu shows. Most likely it is probably showing "manual". You can use the pull-down menu to change it to "automatic" and it will start up automatically when you restart your system - unless there is another program that is preventing this. What you are really most interested in doing is starting the service manually if it is not starting up.

Under Service Status you can click Start.

Post back if this does not work for you.

Sounds like a browser problem. Do you have any alternate browser like firefox, safari? Just to check if it's really IE8 problem.

You can try disabling your security software like antivirus/antispyware program then try to relaunch it.

You can also try optimizing your browser... go to Tools > internet options > then
delete cookies, temp files, history, restore advanced settings in advanced tab

last resort, uninstall IE8 and reinstall it.

Microsoft made 'em do it: The latest Kaby Lake, Zen chips will support only Windows 10

I dont understand how you can make a cpu * only* for 1 operating system can anyone explain this to me please

They make the CPU how they want, then only release supporting drivers for new versions of Windows. People will likely find some workarounds to keep dragging Windows 7 through the year 2017 and beyond

I can't paly help and support link of start menu. No eror message and a fraction of second activity of hour glass. I have tried allmost every suggestion from google search. The shortcut of helpctre.exe works OK. No it is not due to regclean software.

Strangely search function of start menu cannot find any folders in windows directory !!! However using winxp in a different partition I can search all files and folders including C Drive partition.

I have 3 different winxp in 3 partitions and one of them plays help and support. This is an eatrliest copy not used regularly. I use C drive winxp by default.

I also tried all registry checks and tips suggested by google search.

Has anybody got any clues and how can I compare the working partition with others?

I purchased a Gateway Computer with media center.
I used file and transfer wizard for my files. It also brought the Compaq Help and support Center with it. How do I get rid of Compaq Help and get back to Gateway Help without starting over as Gateway suggested?

Something has happened to my xp windows help and support file. It is listed on my screen after I click my start menu, however when I click help and support nothing comes up. What happened to this file or program on my computer ?

Many apologies if this has already been flogged to death - did a search and found no solution - but there were similar posts - none of which worked for me.

The Help and Support Centre fails to load from the start bar, or double clicking helpctr.exe which is in the PC Health folder as expected. The required windows service "help and support" is running correctly. There are valid registry entries storing the folder path to helpctr.exe (in the binaries folder). A manually created shortcut to the executable will not work either. In all instances the mouse pointer brifly changes to an hourglass icon and then switches back to the standard windows pointer.

I have an HP Pavillion desktop running XP Media Centre Edition with software updates up to date. Virus checked full system today and ran Adaware and MS AntiSpyware - no problems.

Please help as this is very VERY frustrating - why wont the help centre open.

I have an Alienware Aurora desktop from 2,010 that has an Alienware 4VWF2 motherboard in it. I also have 3 monitors connected to it, each with a maximum supported resolution of 2,560 pixels wide by 1,080 pixels high (no 4K here), although, I did see some similarly sized monitors to the ones that I have that are said to support the 4K resolution. (Although, since I only recently received my current monitors, it might be a while before I upgrade again. But, that might also depend on the answer to my question.) Alright, on to the question. What are the specifications of the motherboard mentioned above? I am specifically curious about its GPU support. Although, other information (e.g., CPU support) would be nice to know. I want to use a spanned desktop that utilizes the full resolution of all of my monitors. Currently, I have the desktop simply extended (not spanned through the Catalyst Control Center (or whatever Nvidia's equivalent is, as I have not dealt with Nvidia's software in a long time), as I prefer to have it) across the 3 displays. But, 2 of them are running at a resolution of only 1,920 pixels wide by 1,080 pixels high while the third runs at the full 2,560 pixels wide by 1,080 pixels high. My mic does not work on my Dell XP pc. I have gone through a number of tests. I checked to see if it is muted , it is not. The volume control is at maximum, I have done a hardware test and it said it could not detect my voice. I am at an end of what I can do. Is it possible that this Dell doesn't support a mic? Is there anything else I can do to install or test the mic? Is there some kind of driver that may need to be installed?

The XP "Help & Support" Question mark after start, does not work. It may the result of a damaged registry key, as I have done system restore and find PCHealth in the registry but the "value is not set." Clicking on the Help & Support icon produces nothing; the mouse pointer simply sits there, and nothing happens. I have searched the web for various solutions, but find they either don't work or they go too deep in the registry that I am afraid to use them. I also cannot get SFC /Scannow either. If I use the XP disc, cold install, will I lose all my settings? The "services.msc" menu shows PCHealth on automatic and started. I would list the problem under "minor, but annoying," as opposed to "major and panic." Thanks for any help.

One of the secondary family PC's is a Dell E521
This has an Athlon 64X2 Dual

This sort of reads like it should be OK with 64bit W10 ? ......... anybody know if this is the case.

Does anyone know or can anyone suggest or can Microsoft Support Team take into account the following?


It would be great if Windows 10 32-bit version supports more tan 3GB of RAM with the inclusion of PAE.

Some people that have Windows 7 32-bit PCs with more than 3GB of RAM, currently only can use all the RAM if they use a PAE patch to enable it...

When the time to upgrade to Windows 10 comes, the ideal situation would be to be able to upgrade directly to the 64bit version, but it seems that 32bit-to-64-bit upgrade won't be posible without a fresh install (would be great if the possibility is given)....

So the easy way for the owners of a Windows 7 32-bit PAE patched, would be offering a Windows 10 32-bit that supports more than 3GB of RAM....

I haven't heard or seen anything about Microsoft including a PAE Mode for Windows 10.

Honestly, no new machine should be running a 32bit OS. It's outdated and useless to most people.

Also, think about this...If Microsoft were to include a PAE Mode for Windows 10, why would anybody bother going to 64bit? The OEMs would save costs and buy only 32bit OSs.
