Why does Windows 10 Version 1607 take about 2.5 times as long to restart as Version 1511 does?

Question: Why does Windows 10 Version 1607 take about 2.5 times as long to restart as Version 1511 does?

I have ugraded to version 1607 and I notice the restart time is 2.5 longer than version 1511. The boot time is about the same on both versions. I also did a clean install of version 1607 and the restart time was still about 2.5 times as long as version 1511.
What is going on with version 1607?

Preferred Solution: Why does Windows 10 Version 1607 take about 2.5 times as long to restart as Version 1511 does?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What is going on with version 1607? you've checked startup programs? Any that are on by default?
First days can be rough, give it time or wait for the next update patch to get things sorted

Microsoft still hasn?t released the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Mobile users, but that doesn?t mean they?ve completely forgotten about their smartphone customers. Today, according to Windows Central, Microsoft has released an update to production Windows 10 Mobile users that pushes the non-Insiders version to Build 10586.545.

Windows 10 Mobile gets a pre Anniversary Update release, to 10586.545

Updates are cumulative, with each update built upon all of the updates that preceded it. A device needs to install the latest update to remain supported.

Hello all,I've tried all possible ways to update to windows 10 version 1607 (windows update, media creation tool, iso file, et)
without success.
Any clue that really works ?
It always ends with "restoring your previous version.." it's frustrating.
Thanks in advance.

Hello all.
Running windows 10 pro 64 bit.
I've updated from Version 1511 to the anniversary update, 1607.
Or at least, I thought I did.
The update went well, no hiccups, no errors. Used windows update, let it downloaded and install and rebooted. Alas, system still shows OS Version 1511.
Used update again, same thing, rebooted, 1511.
Went to the windows site, downloaded the windows10upgrade9252.exe, ran it, same exact issue, rebooted, still showing version 1511.
Error logs show no issues. Disabled all external drives, turned off anti-virus, etc, repeated, rinsed, rebooted, still version 1511.
Only think I've not done is burned an ISO to DVD and updated from that.
Any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks!

I've tried to install this multiple times: Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586

Here's what I've done so far to try and fix:

Code:
sfc /scannow

multiple times as admin. No errors reported.

Code:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow

I've checked the Windows logs but didn't find anything.

When Windows restarts I get the Windows logo, but it then goes to a blue screen and asks me if I want to restart, or reset my PC. I restart and then I get a message saying the update install failed.

Hi donnyboy and welcome to Tenforums.
You could try downloading the ISO and performing a repair install using an in-place upgrade.

I have been dealing with this for a long time now and I am sick of it. I have tried everything I can think of to get this update to install but it just won't do it. I even googled some information on people stateing to use the mediacreationtool to fix the issue however I can not do this because I am on a 1.3MB internet line and before the tool is even halfway done downloading the system auto restarts because of the already waiting update. I can not cancel it or stop it so the mediacreationtool has to start over. This is a really big issue now because the window update on the system no longer allows me to extend the update time and is restarting the PC every hour to try and update the system. PLEASE HELP!

Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586. has been installed but the Restart Now button did not work. It says
We're having trouble restarting to finish the install. Try again in a little while. If you keep seeing this, try searching the web or contacting support for help. This error code might help: (0x80070032)
I manually restart the PC but the update did not applied.
How to fix this issue?
-Ganesh

Answer:Why am I unable to restart my PC to apply the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586?

That particular error code is usually indicative of the OS failing to schedule a sequence of tasks. This is why the updates aren't applied when restarting manually. It never got the updates sequenced in order to process them.
Knowing that part is easy. I have no idea how to actually fix the issue. My best guess would be to try to do the upgrade using the Media Creation Tool. Download an ISO, run setup, and select Upgrade. You'll get the same results as if you had succeeded in the update process and your system will be up to date. You'll have the added advantage of a current install ISO should you ever need to install again, or if a friends computer needs updating/upgrading.

Hi Welcome to Window Central! I'm sorry, but I have no idea what your trying to accomplish. Research shows me you are already running 64bit. If that is not the case, you would have to update your OS to a 64bit system. That is not a easy task. Here's link to WC "How to"! Has anyone had this update restart your machine 11 or 12 times and still Windows still wants to do it again. I have over the last 10 or so days. How now brown cow? Microsoft folks, is it an update or are you just being annoying!!!???? Please advise. I would like to get past this please! Kindest regards!

Can you be a bit more specific please.

When is the restart occurring?
What are you doing?

Is the update completing or not? Check Update History, see what it says.

Also, your System Specs could be a bit more detailed:

CPU Intel (which CPU? I3, I5, I7, model number)
Motherboard Gigabyte (Which one, model number)
Memory Corsair (how much, type (PC2-xxxxx, speed)
Graphics Card Ati (which one)

Right now I'm suffering issues on Windows 10 after upgrading to version 1511

The issues include:
Performance issues - my laptop is suffering lag and hangs randomly (this had never happened before version 1511)
Longer boot - It would take 30 seconds or longer to boot, instead of before that's taking just 3 seconds. (I noticed that after the laptop booted, it is booting again, acting like a bootloop
Slow app opening - Opening Google Chrome would take 6-7 seconds than it would open instantly before
Waking up from sleep - After opening my laptop, it would be on black screen for few seconds, than before it would never be on black screen
Shutting down - It takes 15 seconds or longer to shut down, assuming it's not actually a problem at all, but it is a problem... It wouldn't take 15 seconds as, before it would take 2-5 seconds.

Please help! I'm having problems since I upgraded to version 1511

I installed Windows 10 around the time it came out, much to my delight I faced no problems with it, but now after reading about this 'November Update' that touts many of the features I wanted back. I read on Microsoft's own site that to get the update I would have to of had Windows 10 for 31+ Plus days e.g. a day over the time limit to go back to Win 8.1 or 7. It's long past the 31 days but the "Go back to Windows 7" is still there?

Hiya

This is a first time post but I've used this forum for the great info, but I'm stuck on this one.... I've got a new laptop Lenovo 510s 14ISK I've used the media creation tool to do a clean install of Windows 10 (Crazy amounts of bloatware). All is ok and works great but it's installed version 1607 and I'm sure some of you are aware of the problem of Windows reading external hard drives in raw format.... Well that's happened to me. Now this might seem stupid on my part but I can't roll back to 1511 as it doesn't exist on the new system, it seems like I've done this at a really bad time and now I need an ISO with 1511 version so I can actually read my hard drives. I hope this makes sense and someone could point me in the right direction or advise.

Windows Update recently downloaded and installed Windows 10 Pro version 1511 10586 on my HP Elite 8300 CMT desktop. So far, this OS seems to work quite well except it won't shut down when I click Shut Down in the Power menu so I have to press the power button on the front of the CPU for a few seconds. I just upgraded my windows 10 pc to the 1511 version. I have (on the start menu) icons for photos, calendar, camera, maps, solitaire, news, get office, sports, one note all with a exclamation mark in a circle. When I click on any it says app not installed contact system administrator to repair or reinstall. I did a sfc/scannow and it came back with no integrity violations. As there is no iso available to reinstall I'm at a loss as to what to do. It takes nearly 50% longer to boot up compared to the previous windows 10 version as well. I tried searching for a former restore point to go back to but they all seem to have been removed after the upgrade. Icons on my task bar occasionally blink out then back on from time to time as well. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

Another Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3140768) tonight.
Can anyone explain why I have to have windows firewall running before I can install updates to W10.
Has anyone else got the same problem. I have my own Firewall program so should not need Windows firewall, but it will not download updates unless it is switched on.

Hi, I'm having issues with my resolution settings in the latest Windows update and I can't find a fix.
I have two monitors with different resolutions and it won't let me change my 1440x900 to 1728x1080 and it reduces my 1920x1080 to 1600x900.
I have tried different graphics card driver as well as a clean sweep with a driver removal tool but it's still broken.
I need two monitors to work and without buying a new second monitor, I can't get work done.
I need a solution because I need one.

I read a previous post about Windows Pro but I am wondering if this will definitely work the same way for my Home version even though I already have windows 10 installed. Can I go here, http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10 - click upgrade now, then chose upgrade this PC now to definitely get 1511?

Is this "normal" for Microsoft to still be rolling out the update? Thank you!!

Answer:Force Windows 10 Home to Version 1511

Yes, you can do this various ways but you're describing Option 4 in Brink's Tutorial here: Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation

The iso downloads you can do with MCT or at Tech Bench are periodically freshened to contain major build releases as they occur. Currently, you would be downloading build 10586, i.e., version 1511.

We have two 64-bit Windows 10 installations; one on an almost new i5 desktop and the other on a 2009 Dell Studio laptop. Whilst Windows 10 Version 1511 OS Build 10586.36 works OK on the desktop PC, on the Dell laptop there's no Internet connection if I try & install the same version / build. It comes up with the error message: "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer".
I have tried installing it twice, but get the same error / no connection both times. The network function reports that IPv4 is connected to the Internet but that IPv6 connectivity has no network access.
Does anyone know how to fix this error? For now, I have re-installed the previous version from the image I fortunately made a couple of weeks ago and set Windows 10 to accept critical updates only. As soon as this was installed, the laptop jumped back into life.
I understand from a post on the US Windows Forum site that Dell are not supporting Windows 10 on the Studio PC, so I may have to change the network card to a new one to get Windows 10 functioning with this version. Any recommendations as to a suitable card would also be welcome.

After update at Version 1511 of Windows 10 I run into problems: windows was freezing. At the beginning for not reason at all but afterwards I've noticed that it was freezing during this video autoplay in facebook for example.Other symptoms were that youtube was not functioning, in any of the browsers. Best results were in Chrome but also there the sound was not functioning. Googling it did not helped so I've tried somehow to solve it without a clean install (**bleep** Microsoft way...)and I've found the solution: I've reinstalled the video driver. I've took the one for Windows 7 from lenovo support site, set in in compatibility mode and reinstall it. This seems to solve the problem and I've wanted to share it with you. Laptop in case is an x201 but an update on a T410 is in progress and I will make the checks for the symptoms and if they are the same I will try this one on. Will let you know if there are any updates.

Hi, I have a Nextpad device that has Windows 10 installed on it. Because it is a mobile device, the storage space is limited (total about 28G, and free space about 16G, after the most recent system update, even without me installing any user application). Windows Update now shows that it is ready to install Windows 10 version 1511 update, but is that amount of space enough? I see somewhere that the "minimum required storage" is 8G, which I have, but some other people say that the installation will take up to 20G space (which can be reclaimed later through disk cleanup tool), and I worry that might cause the device to fail because of insufficient storage space.
Could somebody give me some suggestions? Thanks.

After this update I have a Windows-Old folder, 17.6 gig. Can this folder be deleted? Happy with update and will not go back to 1511.

Answer:Windows 10, version 1607

Its normal behaviour for the installer to leave this folder behind. It allows you to roll back if something went wrong. If you're sure everythings behaving normally then yes you can remove the folder. Use built in disk cleaner, click on c: then click the clean up system files button. Make sure old system install is ticked.

Basically WIndows fails to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586.
There is no error codes shown. Only a message that issues were found during installation and then advises to press fix issue which in turn jumps right back to the full download (again) and install with the same message 'issues were found, press fix issue...'
Any tip to get it installed? PC works fine otherwise.

I Received Windows 10 Update to Version 1511 on 3 home computers. On 2 of the computers the right click context menu no longer has the option to right-click on a file and send a shortcut of the right-clicked file to the desktop. Although the command appears in the Sendto folder, the option does not show up in the context menu. I have tried many suggestions to correct the problem. I have verified the CLSID for the command in the registry, I have tried copying the command from the one computer where it still works to the appropriate directories on the 2 computers where it doesn't work, etc. Nothing works. This has worked on all 3 computers for years before receiving the Version 1511 upgrade. All 3 computers are 64 bit. The 2 computers that no longer have this context menu choice have Intel Core I7 processors at 2.8 and 2.9 GHz and 8 and 12 gigabytes of RAM. The computer that still has the context menu option working is an AMD Athlon II P320 DualCore CPU at 2.1 GHz with 4 GB RAM. Would appreciate any suggestions as to how to fix this issue. Thanks

I know most people here are complaining about anniversary update 1607 but Im not able to even reach that, Update KB3176493 is causing me a huge headache, it installed and reversed install about 20 times now, I almost cant use the computer any more. Ive tried every possible guide and solution I could find, including applying the update from a full offline installer, nothing works.

I have a different laptop that had no problems at all with this particular update. Just for the sake of clarity the ONLY thing I changed in this Windows installation was changing the directory of user files, if that's whats causing it I would happily change it back.

I would change it back and then see if you are then able to install the update.
If it still does not do it then you can always revert back to what you changed

I bought last week a Satellite C40-C-10Q (version equipped with Win10).
Today the last upgrade of Windows 10 Fam, version 1511, 10586 is not possible because there is not enough place on the "disk" (32Gb).
Till today, I have only install Firefox and Avast.
With this configuration 11Gb are at still disposal.
Win10 has took 4Gb for the upload of the upgrade and then 9Gb were necessary to make the installation.
This is physically impossible.
Has someone an idee?

Thx,

Answer:Still can't update to windows 10 Home, version 1511, 10586.

You had been using Windows Update which you have failed to install 10586.

Consider trying the other method also recommended by Microsoft itself.
Download the Media Creation Tool (MCT)

Make sure you select the same language, same bit version and same Windows Edition as the one you are now running.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

Once it is downloaded, run the Tool > select Create installation media for another PC.
That will begin downloading the ISO file to your computer.
When it is downloaded, right click at the ISO file > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
That will begin installing.
You have the choice of keeping your settings, files and apps, or keeping nothing.
No product key is required.
Activation is automatic.

PSA: Support for Windows 10 for PCs version 1511 ends tomorrow

It's that time again, the time for Microsoft to end support for a version of Windows 10. According to the Windows lifecycle fact sheet, support for Windows 10 for PCs version 1511 will be ending tomorrow, October 10.

Version 1511 was the first update to Windows 10, so this is only the second time that this has happened. The first was on May 9, when the original version of the OS, now known as 1507, was removed from support. The company has continued to provide cumulative updates though, despite that, for business customers that have different licensing agreements than consumers have.

Naturally, your PC should have been moved to at least the Anniversary Update (version 1607) or the Creators Update (version 1703) by now. If you haven't been, you can manually upgrade your machine to a newer version here by clicking 'Update now'.

Note that this change only applies to the PC version of the OS. Windows 10 Mobile version 1511 is still slated to be supported until January 8, 2018, despite not having received any updates in quite some time.

So yesterday I updated my Asus Zenbook from Windows 10 (version I don't know) to version 1511 and this has caused two problems for me. Both of them are concerning my touchpad. Anyone know how I can get this back? Thanks.

Windows Setup replaced all your drivers, no matter if they worked OK or not. Reinstall latest touchpad driver from manufacturer and it should restore full functionality.

Hello,

My wife has a Lenovo ThinkPad X230 (Type 2306-CTO) that shipped with Windows 7 and has been successfully upgraded to Windows 10. It has been running Windows 10 (retail release plus updates) smoothly for a couple months.
Yesterday (11 Dec 2015) my wife ran the Windows 10 system file checker (sfc /scannow) in an elevated command prompt on her laptop. She did this to make sure everything was still okay after updating Windows 10 to version 1511 (OS Build 10586). It wasn't okay:

I had the same problem.

Solution:
1. convert your install.esd to install.wim using WinReducerESWimConverter.
(WinReducer ES Wim Converter - WinReducer.net)
2. run as admin

Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:wim:C:\ . . . . \install.wim:1 /limitaccess

For any MVP's and others with MSDN subscriptions, there are new Version 1511 (Updated Feb 2016) Windows 10 ISO's available. Enterprise, Education, and Multi edition are all new. The Media Creation Tool may have them too, I haven't checked it yet. I'm still downloading from MSDN.

EDIT: Winver shows 10586.104 for the updated MSDN ISO. Clean install with no network connection.
Looks like they rolled in the Feb 9 th update listed here , http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...ory-windows-10 KB3135174

Answer:New (Updated Feb 2016) Windows 10 Version 1511 ISO's are up on MSDN

ISO downloaded with MCT yesterday about 2:00pm was still build 10586.0 and still had the incorrect description of technical preview.

Hi,
The Windows 10 Home, version 1511 10586 update came out a while ago now, and everyday since I've tried installing it and yet I still can't. It downloads fine, but then when I need to restart to "finish the update", I'm presented with the error message

We're having trouble restarting to finish the install. Try again in a little while. If you keep seeing this, try searching the web or contacting support for help. This error code might help: (0x80070032)

This is what it looks like:

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jordan.

Have Lenovo v570 and 2 nights ago MS pushed update version 1607 for windows 10. PC had basically a black screen with blue Windows logo in center of screen with a small spinning wheel like in lower center. I let the go for several hours and then pushed to old power button. PC restarted and went back to same position. Waited several hours and nothing changed. Rebooted and held Windows key down and was presented with options to continue with Windows 10 or advanced options. Did continue and same result. Next time did advanced options and tried to go back to previous update and it failed saying select Reset PC option under advance options. I did not do this as I am hesitant as I understand it the Reset will remove all my applications but leave my data. I am not sure what that means, Office, TurboTax, etc, etc???
Did some research on line ... and saw something that said after restarting the third time Windows will automatically restore back to prior version. Well that did not happen.
Just wondering if anyone has thought on this and what action should I take. I do have a system restart set but forget when I last did that -- think right after I went to 10 earlier this year. That could be option but not sure what is total ramification if I chose that option.
Thanks in advance.

How can I upgrade the disk space so thatb the latest windows 10 version 1607 update can be installed, I have removed all but the windows and program files and itb still wants almost 4 more gig to install. Can I run the windows operating system from an SD or USB device instead of the disk (C?

Answer:cannot install windows 1607 version

@HaroldK Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! Unfortunately, the Stream line, with only 32GB of disk storage, can present serious problems with Windows upgrades and updates. Here are a couple of threads with steps you can take to recover some disk space:http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3012-disk-cleanup-open-use-windows-10-a.htmlhttp://winaero.com/blog/how-to-clean-up-winsxs-folder-in-windows-10/ Also, there have been reports that you can use an SD card as supplemental space for Windows Updates. Unfortunately, you can not RUN Windows from an SD card or USB stick unless you have the special Enterprise WinToGo version.Good Luck

I've been getting a black screen with the moving dot circle every time I start my HP desktop, which moves on to "Restoring to your previous version of Windows (v7). Yesterday, Microsoft Support helped download Windows 10 version 1607 upgrade (from 1511).  Download failed. Now, MS tells me that the HP desktop I have doesn't have the necessary components (drivers?) to install v1607. MS wants me to clean my computer of everything (inlcuding programs) to install v1607. I do have all backed up on external hard drive, but cannot imagine how much time and effort this would take. Note that the MS upgrade is automatic and cannot be cancelled, so it will keep trying to do this download. Is HP going to test my  Pavillion p7-1206 so that it may be used with Windows 10 v 1607?  If not, is there a solution to running the Windows 10 version 1511 succesfully without getting the black screen and "restoring" message? BTW, I have HP support assistant insalled and have plenty of memory.) I love my HP desktop and I also like Windows 10. Help!

Answer:Windows 10 version 1607 Updgrade

@LizL778 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! Your PC came with Win7 and unfortunately, HP does not supply Win10 drivers for it.  Win7 PCs had a generally hard time with the initial Win10 Upgrade, and it looks like each new version, causes more and more of them to fail subsequent version upgrades.  The next Upgrade -- to version 1703 -- is coming out in early April, so if your PC will not Upgrade to 1607, that does not look good for 1703. What MS is saying is only partly true.  While it's true that you don't have Win10 HP drivers, there is really no reason why this should prevent either downloading the Upgrade or running it. So, what are you running now -- Win10 version 1511, or Win7? Also, HOW did you do the Win10 Upgrade download? We can proceed when you provide the information. Thanks

I did not know the "Anniversary Update" would install, like, Windows 11. (may well have been)
I first had issues with the update error 'Can't yada, yada due to USB device.
I found a reg fix for that. Loaded the update and it took like forever.
OK, finally finished and last reboot. Up pops Windows 10 version 1607 which just almost destroyed many
of my settings and enhancements I had made to my preferences. Well this sucks.
I played with it for a while and then, totally disgusted, restored an image prior this update.
I installed show/hide updates. I also reinitialized the reg change I made making sure MS won't just sneak it in.
Good luck with that. I'm just venting. I'll be normal again tomorrow.

Answer:Windows 10 update to version 1607

Yep the way W10 updates is pretty frustrating, the best you can do is Defer feature updates, and it will take longer to update.

But the Anniversary is pretty good compared to the Creators update, IMO.

I would not go making a bunch of changes and customizations to W10, because you know it`s gonna update to a new version sooner or later.
