I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Check in device manager whether there's any issue with your sound drivers - is there any exclamation mark?

The W530 speakers are the worst speakers I?ve ever seen in any laptop.  I purchased the W530, and although everything else is great, the speakers are absolutely worthless. And no, calling it a business laptop doesn't justify not installing good speakers either. A business laptop and in this case, a mobile work station simply means a powerful machine capable of doing complex tasks including multimedia. Business doesn't mean crunching numbers in excel, it means professional use. I'm not a gamer, and the last game I played was on ATARI, 25 years ago, so I don't expect mind blowing audio from a laptop. What I do expect is to be able to actually hear a **bleep** conversation on a Skype call, or watch a movie without headphones. My old Toshiba laptop with Herman Kardon speakers sounds like a boom box compared to this machine. My cell phone speakers have better clarity, depth and volume than this $3,000 machine, and I don't appreciate cheapness. If you claim to be the best, deliver the best, plain and simple.  Shame on you big time Lenovo.

Do you have the Dolby driver installed and is Dolby audio turned on? There is a noticeable difference between when Dolby is on and off, in my experience.

About a week or two ago, my speakers stopped working. The headphones work fine and when I unplug the headphones the Twist notifies me that the headphones have been unplugged, so it's not a mechanical issue. I've updated the BIOS and all the drivers I could find through Lenovo, but still nothing. Anybody have any ideas?

Answer:ThinkPad Twist speakers stopped working

Hi Laryu,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that speakers of your Lenovo Twist had stopped working suddenly.

I would like to thank you for updating BIOS and audio drivers.

In the sound manager, test the left and right speakers. Make sure that speakers volumes are up.
Try removing the Realtek drivers and let windows install the generic drivers for your device and check if the speakers work.

If it does not, however, then I would recommend contacting our Technical support and telling them of your issue. Seeing as how you're speakers are not recognized for a test, then I am inclined to think that it is a hardware issue.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Hope this helps resolve your concern!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Just bought a new E470, checked the laptop and all was working well, including the speakers. I then replaced its original SATA3 HDD with an SSD, reinstalled Win10 Home and discovered the speakers no longer work. I've tried:1) testing the headphones, they still work.2) changing the bitrate to various frequencies. No joy.3) re-installing manufacturer driver. No joy.4) uninstalling manufacturer driver. Use Windows hi-def audio driver. No joy5) unjamming the headphone jack sensor with a toothpick in case it thinks the headphones are still plugged in. No joy6) enabling playback device to the speakers. No joy7) using the Lenovo Diagnostics Solution. No hardware issues found.I'm worried that I may have affected the motherboard circuitry that connects the speakers during the HDD upgrade. What I haven't done is looked for the motherboard specs and see whether the working area may have impacted any circuitry for the speakers. Does anybody know?

Answer:Speakers not working after SSD upgrade - Thinkpad E470

I figure you probably have it working by now?  I have read of cases where the sound driver must be installed "manually" to get it working.  Download the correct sound driver.  Then:Right Click MY COMPUTERChoose PropertiesClick HARDWARE tabClick DEVICE MANAGER tabChoose Sound, video and game controllersRight click the device in questionChoose Update DriverThe wizard will ask you, "Can windows connect to Windows Update to search for software?"Click NoClick NextIt will ask "What do you want the wizard to do?"Click "Install from a list or specific location"Click "Next"Click the check box "Include this location in the search"Click browse and browse to the location of the driver (in this explanation it was C:\Audio Driver".Complete the wizard and you have manually installed the driver. Note you may have to uninstall the original driver first.

It's only a month that I've bought a Lenovo Twist but the Speakers have stopped working and I don't know why. When I plug in my earphones though, I can hear the sounds but speakers don't work. I have tried upgrading my Realtec driver but didn't help. I have set the Audio Director to Multi-stream mode instead of the default Classic mode but didn't help. In the Audio Manager, I've tested the Left Speaker and Right Speaker but they don't work. I have also made sure that the Speaker Volumes are up from the left corner of the screen. What else can I try? Is it a software or hardware issue?

Answer:ThinkPad Twist speakers stopped working!

Hi, LenovoTwistUser

You could try updating the BIOS (found here) and see if that helps the issue. If it does not, however, then I would recommend giving support a call at 08705-500-900 and telling them of your issue. Seeing as how you're speakers are not recognized for a test, then I am inclined to think that it is a hardware issue. But rest assured, support should be able to help you and set you up for repairs as necessary.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I recieved my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e a couple of days ago and it came with a lot of bloatware, or at least what I thought was. I started uninstalling a lot and everything seemed to work fine. I restarted it, but when it came back, I noticed the touch screen would not work. I went into the Device Manager and realized that one of my I2C drivers had the triangle with the exclamation was on one of them. After trial and error, I realized that disabling and re-enabling the driver would allow my touch screen to work. After a restart, however, I was back to square one. My wife bought her the same Lenovo Yoga and I have been compairing the two. I just noticed that I am missing the I2C controllers in the System Devices in the Device Manager as well. I have tried booting from an installation from hers and even copying the drivers and System32 folder to no avail. If anybody has any solutions, please help. I have tried everything I knew and everything I could find. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e missing I2C driver. Drivers from lenovo website not working.

Hello and welcome,

What happens when you install the i2c driver for your machine?  Before doing so please verify the machine type (20D9, 20DA) as there's another machine type option available.  Downloads found by using SUPPORT above and entering Yoga 11e.

For several last days, I have a strange behavior of speakers and microphone in my t470p. For most of the time they are unavailable in both Linux or Windows OS. However, where I'm doing little push on screen backward (like adjusting screen little bit), both microphone and speaker start working and become available. After I stop adjusting screen (making push backward) device become unavailable again. I'm sure that it is some kind of hardware problem and it should be easy fixing (like some connector is not attached properly inside LCD panel), but according to maintenance manual, I do not see any wires related to speakers or sound card going inside LCD panel. Can anybody advise how to fix such behavior?

Hi, I am using Lenovo G460 since 2 years and I am unable to hear from internal speakers, but I connected headphones or external speakers it's working fine. anybody can tell the problem

Answer:my lenovo g460 internal speakers are not working

hi arjunkanda,

Can you try Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Audio Driver,

Open Device Manager and look under sound and gaming controller for WIN7 and Audio input for WIN8/8.1
Look for something says Conexant, and uninstall it.
Place a check if you're prompted of "Delete driver software for this device"

Then install a audio driver from this download link of your system and install it.
      http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT072732

See if that works,
If not then, Im thinking a connection problem of the Speakers,

You can check your system's  Maintenance Manual to check on how to get access to the speaker cables connecting to the Mainboard on page (52).

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hi!Lenovo TP T500, Win7Pro 32. There was a problem with the integrated speakers. Yesterday worked fine. Then, after a conversation on Skype through a wired headset from the integrated speakers sound stopped going. Through headphones the sound is fine. All tests are integrated speakers through the control panel are normal, no errors shown. But the sound of them is not. That is, I have created the absolute impression that the laptop "thinks" as if the headset is still activated. What will advise?

Make sure if you haven't done so already to press and hold (for a few seconds) the volume UP button on the top row of the keyboard.  It's usually pretty close to the blue ThinkVantage butoon.

Hello Philip,

As mentioned in your post, you have performed all the major troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. I suggest you to update your BIOS also in order to resolve your issue. You can download and update the BIOS update utility from the below mentioned web link.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_SG/downloads/default.page?

Kindly click on Quick path and put your 7 Digit TYPE-Model number(40625YG) in the box and then click on the Find My Product. Please click on BIOS and then download the BIOS update utility according to your Operating System. It might resolve your issue. If it will also not work then it seem to be an issue with hardware. Kindly get in touch with the support centre they will assist you and try to resolve the issue.

Hi.  Since yesterday, my Fn key has stopped working.  I have tried plugging in an external keyboard and it stil does not work.  I tried switchng the Ctrl key and the Fn key in the Bios utility and this allows me to use the Fn features with the Ctrl key, but then I lose the Ctrl key function. So the key itself is not working, but the fact that the Fn key does not work on an external keyboard leads me to believe it's not a hardware issue. Any ideas?

So I was using my Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop for a study session. My keyboard was working fine the last time I used it, which was like ten minutes before it stopped working. Nothing on my keyboard is working, including the F controls/shortcuts. The ThinkPad is working normally and so is its corresponding right/left keys. The screen is also fine and the touch screen keyboard is working as well. My laptop isn't in tablet mode or any other mode other than laptop mode.  So basically, has anyone else had this problem and possibly share their wisdom. Also, if there are basic shortcuts that simply turn off your keyboard and can turnit back on, it'd be quite helpful, because there could be a simple fix but I wouldn't be aware since I am not very tech savvy.  Thank you so much!

The webcam in my T420 suddenly stopped working. Tried the following:

F1 to access Bios. Under 'Security' the 'Integrated Camera' is enabled.

Under Windows Live Movie Maker: Displays 'No Webcam was found.'

Under Device Manager there are no 'Imaging Devices' listed so I can't update the drivers.

Lenovo Easy Capture tells me 'Failed to Open Camera'

Skype Tools>Options>Videos says 'Skype couldn't find a webcam.'

Have installed the 8aca15ww.exe Integrated Camera Driver.

Edit: thanks to those who looked at this post. As you probably guessed it's a hardware failure, and I've just taken it to Lenovo for service.

It all started 3 days ago.

I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad R61i 8932-GCU with Windows Vista 32bits Business Edition (SP2).

Suddenly, the USB ports stopped working

I checked the Device Manager but everything was fine with the USBs. However, the Teredo Tunnelling PseudoInterface had this little yellow triangles. (Status: This device cannot start - code 10). When I tried to disable it, to see if there was any conflict, the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) became unresponsive.

That same night, Windows Update also became unresponsive while installing an update for the Ricoh SD card reader. When I tried to disable the SD card reader, the MMC crashed again. I tried to uninstall the USB drivers from the Device Manager...MMC crashed again.

I have tried another Windows Update, but it also became unresponsive while trying to create a Restore Point.
After reading this thread, showing how to isolate the problem using msconfig, I made a clean boot by disabling all non-Microsoft services. The USB worked but the MMC became unresponsive again when I tried to disable the card reader. The provided link doesn't show what to do when the problem is with some Microsoft service
I would really appreciate some help on those issues

Can anyone help? I love this PC, it's great, I am just really disappointed Lenovo support doesn't seem to do what it promises. Thanks very much!

Iwanted to see if there is any other solutions instead of restoring it to factory settings and starting again.the hard drive was working at first via the same keyboard dock usb ports that was giving me problems.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad E431 Camera Not Working

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that webcam of your Lenovo ThinkPad E431 is not working properly.

Go to Control panel-> device manager -> Imaging devices and check if there is any driver with a yellow mark. Check in BIOS if integrated camera is enabled there.

Press FN+F6 to open the Communications settings window and press Show my video image button to enable the camera.

Go into Lenovo Settings App on Metro view, and select camera.
There will be the options of Private and Normal.
Select Normal.

Also, in Settings > Permissions, make sure that Skype and other similar apps have permission to access the Webcam or Microphone.

Go to testmycam and check if camera works there. This will help you to isolate if the issue is just with Skype or in general with the webcam.

Hope it helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

So there's a huge thread, set to sticky as many people have had trouble with their touchpads turning off, quite randomly at that.  It's a wonder Lenovo hasn't got the point and fixed it yet.  Anyway, NONE of the solutions worked for me.  Except one guy mentioned something, and I realized he was completely right!. What I did try:Turn on and off the touchpad to reset it.Install a new Synaptics Touchpad driver.Write customer support.Did a little chant, dance, and jig.No luck  What WorkedI relized that it was hardware, and the guy had mentioned how he had a loose connection.  When I press down pretty hard on the mouspad, and/or keyboard, it generally starts working again. (with full palm for most surface area, as I'm still not quite sure exactly where that point of contact is).  I took apart my laptop, and didn't have much luck fixing it.  Partly because I wasn't able to easily access the connection between the touchpad and motherboard (I'm using the edge e420.  On my r52, that connnection was easy to access.)  And I couldn't confirm that the connection between the keyboard and motherboard was entirely unrelated.  Anyway, I need to look at the manuals and figure out how to get to that connection, but for now, pressing down on the touchpad/keyboard does the trick.  "What it comes to computers, anything its possible.  It's just a matter of how."

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge Touchpad - Not working

I feel like my head is going to explode.  I've searched the forum and read what seems like hundreds of complaints about the touchpad not working on the Thinkpad Edge.  I've had my Thinkpad E420 for a week and the touchpad does not work but the pointer device does . . .  I don't mind updating or installing . . . whatever. . . . but it seems that this had been unsuccessful most of the time.  I'm a 50-something year old woman who is fairly computer-savvy (so I thought).  I researched laptops for two months before I bought -- came down to the Lenovo and Toshiba.  I picked the Lenovo b/c of what I hoped would be good durability.  My hubby said take it back to the store (I have about a week left to do this).  He is an HP computer-person (I don't care for HP).  All things considered, if I could have afforded it,  I would have bought a Mac   Is there anything new with this problem or am I'm just going to fall into the same rabbit hole as everyone else?  Thx.

Hi, I am running Windows 7 64-bit with a Lenovo T410 Thinkpad. All of the sudden my alt keys stopped working. Sticky Keys are not enabled. This is rather problematic as I have to use the On-Screen Keyboard now to login unless I use a USB keyboard (yes, the alt-keys work with the external keyboard). No more alt-tabbing either. Does anyone know what could possibly cause this? Maybe the drivers have been affected by a virus? AVG, ComboFix and Kaspersky scans came up clean. The reason It hink it might be driver related is that the external keyboard works.... its just the built in keyboard thats having problems. I guess it could be both alt keys are broken in some way but that seems unlikely as this happened all of a sudden to both alt keys. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Alt keys not working on Lenovo T410 Thinkpad`

I also have a T410 running windows 7 64bit, and have the same problem. Both Alt keys have suddenly stopped working.

Hello, A costumer brought an E530 laptop with a problem with the sound: when you plug in earphones/headphones in the jack on the right side nothing happens. The sound continues to be played by the computer speakers and nothing is heard on the earphones. Juggling a bit with the jack I was able to make it work if I don't insert the plug all the way in and move it a bit. So, I asked for a replacement part for that board. I got the new one today and same thing is happening: sound only goes out through speakers unless I jiggle a bit the plug. I know is not a Windows issue because same thing happens if I boot the computer with a Linux Live CD. Do you have any suggestions on what could be happening? Or I just got a faulty part and I need to request a replacement to Lenovo? I don't think that the issue is located within the systemboard seeing that moving the jack makes it work. Sortof...

Hi FranciscoPeralt,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Did you check with updating the BIOS once, could be issue with BIOS firmware?
Also run ThinkVantage system update utility and update all the latest drivers and application for your system to confirm it is not with the driver related issue.

Hope this helps.

I have the exact same problem is another user on the forum here. I installed arch linux on my N22 last week. I put the laptop down yesterday, came back to it later, and now the keyboard doesn't work! I'm almost positive it's a hardware problem with these laptops but if anyone has info that would be great.

Hi,
i update my tablet to windows 10 from 8.1, but all driver are not working well. The network, wifi, the buttons, the touchscreen and the audio. I tried all the driver in the Lenovo drivers webpage, but no one works even if they are for windows 10.
any ideas?

Answer:How can I get the driver on my Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2 working on Windows 10?

i've heard that thinkpad t2 doesn't handly w10 because of issue with the intel video driver, most drivers should work, go to lenovo page and install w8.1 drivers that maybe resolv the error, if not, go to windows update and see if there's any driver update, download and restart the lenovo.
if not, you should go back to 8.1 maybe it's for the best, also do you have the latest bios firmware? look for me in fb if you have any questions, i'm seba rodriguez.

Hi everyone, so I own a Lenovo E530 with Windows 7 and just earlier today I plugged in my optical mouse into it, about 10 minutes in, Windows gave me a "not enough power message" for my USB 3.0 ports on the left side and they just stopped working. I have 3 USB 3.0 ports on the left side of the laptop, and one USB 2.0 on the right which works just fine. From there it gave me Code 10 for Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface in the Network Adapter section (which I was able to fix via a registry change) and now what is left to fix is the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller which I cannot seem to fix. I have tried the uninstall/reinstall processes, with Intel's own drivers and Lenovo drivers which were just older version of the Intel USB 3.0 drivers, over and over yet it is still stuck on Code 10, where it will not start. I never really overused the USB ports either, aside from plugging in a portable USB fan and portable hard drive here and there, and a USB dongle for a wireless mouse and keyboard (Logitech all-in-ones), that is pretty much all I have done with it. I do not believe the ports are not bad or anything, although it may be a hardware problem, but all 3 USB ports still give power on my fan and external HDs when I plug it in, it is just that Windows does not recognize it and nothing happens when I plug something into. But on the other hand, the USB 2.0 port reads just fine and recognizes everything. I have also tried the Troubleshooter multiple times, but everytime... Read more

Hello, I am trying to enable the fingerprint reader on my Thinkpad W350. I have a new Thinkpad S431 that the HDMI port isn't working. What I did to resolve the issue: Uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel HD graphic 4000 driver, but it didn't work. I upgraded the Bios to 1.09 and that didn't work. I changed out the HDMI adapter and tested both HDMI adapter on an other laptop and it worked fine. So the HDMI adapter isn't the problem. Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Twist S230U Touch Screen Not Working

Hello,

A few questions, in no particular order:

Are these new ThinkPad Twist S230u's?  Refurbished ones?  Old ones?
Can you let us know the machine type from the bottom of the unit(s)?  That's the part on the label that looks like 4321-XYZ (not the serial number, though --please don't post that online)
Did you purchase them directly from Lenovo?  If not, where did you get them from?
What operating system(s) are the S230u's running?

With the answers to those questions, I'm sure some of the forum members will be able to assist you in troubleshooting this further.

Good morning, Trying to figur out what to do with my Laptop. Long story short. It ran perfectly fine. I turn it on one morning and I hear laptop running, fans pinning rtc but screen not turning on. I tried pressing buttons, shutting down, tapping on screen, flipping screen, trying to make it brighter. Nothing. I used Mini Display port to see if I can determine if my screen is dead and I plugged it to my external monitor - Nothing. I Disassamble it. Unplugged the power from battery and I ran it on Charger only. Same thing. Any suggestions? If I leave laptop turned on and I shut down the lid, the laptop never shuts itself down. It's running constantly until runs out of power. Motherboard?

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad S230u Screen not working Laptop runs

Hi It looks like a hardware problem. It can be focused on the video chipset, which is generally solder to the mainboard, or it can be a display issue. It can be interesting if you can provide the full model number of your Thinkpad so it can be documented on the forum. To try to pin down if is a display issue or it does not boot at all you may ask you. Does it feels/sounds like Windows is loading? Does it do something when you turn it on, HDD spining and HDD reading like normal booting?. If Windows does not seems to be booting I think it may be mainboard. In any of the two possibilities you should check with you local Lenovo Support Center to see if it can be fixed. Let's hope it is under warranty. Sorry for not providing you more feedback. Regards

Hi everyone, I bought a Lenovo ThinkPad P50 Signature Edition with a 4K matte display. Over time, I noticed that my display got laggier and laggier at full 4K resolution. If I lower my display resolution to 1920x1080, my display is fairly smooth. I'm not sure why my display isn't smooth at full resolution. I also noticed yesterday that my volume hotkey buttons above the full keypad don't work properly. My volume hot keys above my keyboard work fine, however. Is there any way to alleviate or fix these two issues?

Purchased 57Y4488 which are thinkPad earphones .When plugged into a ThinkPad Edge headphone socket the mic just does not work. Works fine if plugged into a ThinkPad SL410. Tried with two different sets of ThinkPad ear phones and two different ThinkPad Edge laptops . Sadly I purchased my earphones over a month ago so cannot send them back. I have been able to get them to work if I plug it into a usb connector by logitech. I am not sure if the issue is the conector on the earphones or the headset connector on the ThinkPad Edge.

Answer:Headset socket on ThinkPad Edge not working well with earphones 57Y4488 from Lenovo

Hi rviner, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

The ThinkPad Edge has a combo headphone/mic jack. The SL410 has separate headphone and mic jacks.

If you plug headphones in to a combo jack headphone/mic jack, the system mic will switch off.

The combo jack works with common 3.5mm headsets (like those used with mobile phones such as iPhone, Blackberry, etc.).

There are adapters available which split the headphone and mic signal from combo jacks, but they may also kill the system mic when plugged in. It may be possible to use the Sound Control Panel to configure the system mic to work the way you want. I don't have one here. Perhaps a community member can check this?

Hope this helps!

Hi, hope I'm posting in the right place.

I had a set of GE 2.1 speakers working well with my Sony Vaio for about a year. Recently the sound started to go in & out, I had to move the wire around a lot and tape it or hold it in a certain spot to get them to work. Then one day they stopped working altogether. Assuming it was the speakers, I went and bought a new set from Best Buy. Took them home, plugged them in... and nothing, nothing at all. So I tried the OLD speakers in another desktop computer, and they worked perfectly.

So I assumed my headphone jack was broken and was going to go about trying to get a new piece and solder it and all that, but then I'm sitting here and just realized my headphones work perfectly.

What's wrong? How come the headphones work, but 2 pairs of external speakers don't?

Thanks so much

Jillian

Hi, I've been having problems with the touchpad on my Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 369847B.  If I un-dock the screen to use in tablet mode and then re-dock with the keyboard, the touchpad might not work (no mouse, no left or right click), but the screen and keyboard still work. The same also happens (sometimes) if I sleep the machine by closing the screen then  re-opening.  Can't find a way to get the touchpad to work again, other than a restart, which is quite frustrating. Tried removing the screen, resetting the keyboard with a paperclip and re-docking - but no luck. Can anyone please tell me how to get the machine to recognise the touchpad again, without having to do a reboot?   Or any way to stop this happening? Machine stats:Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 369847BWindows 8.1 Pro 64-bit Also the machine is fully updated via Lenovo System Update & Windows update + latest keyboard firmware. Thanks Christopher

So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad. For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).  I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly. After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything. I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine). Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.  I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem? The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you) Thanks a bunch,Amanda

Would really appreciate some help here. I have a Lenovo S1 Yoga - i7-4500U @ 1.80GHz, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10 Home I've had an issue from Day 1 with this laptop - the trackpad does not click properly, and the multitouch goes haywire. The guy at the Microsoft Store sort of shrugged his shoulders, and I always use an external mouse, so I just went with it anyways. Recently, my monitor stopped turning on. The laptop still works - I'm using it right now, connected to an external display. I've tried unplugging+turn off+hold power button for 20 seconds, tried doing the Fn/Alt-F5/F6/F9/etc toggling, and rebooting it several times, all to no avail. At the same time, the Fn key seems to have started mapping to the Left-Alt key. So when I click Alt-F4, instead of closing my window, it toggles the microphone mute. My assumption is that there are (multiple) underlying hardware issues, but wanted to just make sure that there's no obvious software fix that would save me from buying a new laptop. Help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

hey Alphapoint, try this, uninstall the Wifi LAN drivers. let Windows install its generic drivers.test your connection with the generic drivers. Hi guys, I am trying to maintain my doughter's school aptop but encountered something exceding my limited expertise. Since about 10 days the touchpad, buttons and the red thingie stopped working. I have read all the forum issues, uninstalled the drivers and re-installed new ones (first through the lenovo sulotion centre, then the synaptics generic version). About 6 times now. That didn't work. It says "component not present, not working correctly or divers not fully installed, error 24" (translation from Dutch, probably used some incorrect terms).Running windows 10 on this t420. All worked fine untill this happened. I saw that some new mouse drivers have been installed around the day of malfunction but can't find how or where to remove those (still getting used to this windows 10).Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

So far, there's just 2 of us with trackpoint / touchpad problems as a result of installing Windows 10.  My post:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T420-Win-10-Pro-Ultra-Nav-19-00-12-61-Tr... I've combed through this forum and have no one else reporting these same issues; most are reporting that left and right click buttons are working, but the middle button did not work.  In my case, it was the opposite; the middle button scrolled (albeit very choppy), and the left / right buttons were dead.for my Trackpoint.  It's not a hardware issue, as all buttons function as normal in Win 7, but upon installation of Win 10, the buttons do not work.  I went so far as to do a clean install of Win 10 to ensure there were no conflicts between Win 10 and any leftover Win 7 system files, only to end up with the same old left and right button problems. So until the Ultra Nav drivers to enable full functionality of trackpoint / touchpad device, the only solution is to use a physical mouse or revert back to your prior operating system.

A week ago a bubble popped up on my desktop offering to clear space because i was running out of memory on my computer. I clicked it (shouldn't have) and it "cleared space" but now my computer won't play any sound. i have Dell speakers and they work fine because i can plug them into my ipod and play that. I already did the Control Panel-Sounds and Audio Devices-Audio tab but once I get to the audio tab this website tells me to click "Advanced" under "sound playback". However, I don't even have the option of clicking that button. it won't let me click it. Also, there is no Volume control icon on the bottom right corner of my screen (next to the clock). like there should be. I really need help

Answer:Speakers not working...has to do with windows actual speakers are fine

Go to control panel - open sound Icon - put a check mark in the box.Place Volume Icon in TaskbarWindows XPSee if your sound has been stopped in Services Under Windows Audio.Start - Control Panel - Open Administrative Tools - Open Component Services - Click Services (Local) and Scrowl down the list to Windows Audio to see if it says - Started. If stoppedLeft click Windows Audio and click restart. - OrRight click Windows Audio - left click Properties - Left click Start If the above doesn't work, go to control panel and open System Icon - Hardware Tab - Device Manager - Click the + Plus sign for Sounds.......... -Right click Realtek AC 97 (Or whatever Sound you have) - Left click - Update Driver. To update you will need the CD that came with your computer If you have the CD that came with your computer you should be able to install your sound drivers.

Hi jc,

Welcome to the Forum.

Never seen one of these before, Try right clicking on the speaker symbol in the notification area, select Playback Devices, You should be able to select the speaker device that you want to use.
Right click enable/disable Hide/unhide
Left Click will allow you to configure the device after selecting Configure
Properties will also give you some options

I hope this helps

So I got myself the Lenovo ThinkPad W510 the other day, specific model being "431929G", along with it I got myself a 9-cell battery instead of the included 6-cell as well as this additional "slice battery" solutions which you attach at the bottom of the computer using the docking port it seems? The box which this slice battery came in was marked model 57Y4545, the piece of battery inside however says FRU: 42T4739? I guess and hope it's the same thing?  It does attach to the bottom of my W510 without any issues whatsoever, I lock it in place so I get that green indicator which should mean it's supposed to function? But it doesn't.. ThinkVantage Power Manager do pick up the battery but it's just standing there at 12% battery with no activity? Even after the main 9-cell is fully charged it wont start to charge the slice battery? I did even remove the main 9-cell in order to see whether or not that would change anything, but it didn't? And if I remove the power cord when running only the slice battery the W510 will just drop dead? So it's not charging, neither is it providing my W510 with any more battery life? It just sits the with 12% battery with no activity whatsoever, no charging or usage at all?

Answer:ThinkPad Battery 27++ (9cell) 57Y4545 wont work with my Lenovo ThinkPad W510?

Are you sure you're running the latest power manager? I.e., have you updated all the system drivers, os drivers, bios, etc.?

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hello, We have a problem with 2 laptops (ThinkPad X270) that "freeze" on the LENOVO logo when using Lenovo Ultra Dock with monitor Dell UZ2715H.Display Dell is plugged by Display port ports and one USB 3.0 (9 pin - used for display integrated webcam) connected to ThinkPad dock. When notebook turned ON with connected USB 3.0, computer freeze on LENOVO logo (To interrupt normal startup, press Enter) and work only when USB 3.0 disconected, or turned OFF and again Turned ON. Firmware on Dock is 2.33.000 Any suggestion?

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad Ultra (Pro) Dock + ThinkPad X270 (20K6) + Dell UZ2715H

I am just going to guess that computer is trying to boot via USB, so you might try changing the boot order in the BIOS so that Windows Boot Manager or the HD is first.

I have a ThinkPad W520-4282. I want to use a ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (170W) [pn 433830U] at work and a Lenovo USB 2.0 Port Replicator with Digital Video [0A33942] at home.I did not have to install any drivers for the Mini Dock and it worked just fine driving an external monitor. After installing the driver for the Port Replicator, I could no longer drive the external monitor when attached to the mini dock or the VGA+ video port on the ThinkPad.I played with a lot of things to fix the situation and nothing worked. I even uninstalled the driver for the Port Replicator and still could not drive an external monitor. In fact the laptop did not even recognize that an external monitor was attached.Later I found using the Device Manager that the NVIDIA Qadro 1000M display adapter was disabled, proabably during installation of the Port Replicator driver. Once I enabled that, I could drive an external monitor again. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? Will I be able to use the Port Replicator if I install the driver again?

Answer:Use ThinkPad W520, ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 and Lenovo USB 2.0 Port Replicator together???

When I dock the computer and press the power button on the dock it doesn't recognize my monitor as the main screen. I have to hit a key (Windows 10) and put in my password hoping that it's doing that and then the screen comes up. If I reboot after that ... THEN.... it recognizes my screen as the main monitor. How do I fix this? The only time this happens is when I use it off the dock and then put it back on. If it stays on the dock all the time it does just fine. Any fixes for this? Thanks...

Hallo!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Bluetooth Laser Mouse hakt und ruckelt seit Creators Update am Thinkpad P70 ...

I got the same problem.... But first let me translate this for everybody here.  My P70 (or in my case P71) has a problem to keep the connection estimated between the Lenovo mouse and my Laptop. Got the current driver installed.  The German guy above me got the same issue after the creators update.   I set everything Bluetooth related in Device Manager up to NOT let windows turn of the device to save power.  The mouse cuts out for 5 sec and comes back on. If you turn the mouse upside down during that time I noticed that the battery led toggles on and off. So it reboots. So I assume it's driver related to because it worked perfectly fine before on the L530 guys machine.

trying to decide between the T540P/T550 and W541/W550s..... it will be for school and would like to have a 5th gen i series CPU but that's not top priority as other specs are the deciding factor for me. ether one needs dedicated graphics and 16 or 32 gb of ram with windows 7 and a 3K display.... do I really need an i7 for graphics and computer service/IT? what do you recommend?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T540P/T440P vs Thinkpad W541/W550s

They are all good machines.  First thing I would say is that I would highly suggest sticking to the newer models that have physical trackpoint buttons above the touchpad instead of the large clickpad (e.g. the T540p).  Even if you only use the touchpad, the newer one is significantly better.  I have a T440s myself and actually replaced the original clickpad with the one from the newer model because the original was so terrible. You also need to think about whether you need a dedicated Quadro GPU or not.  This would be the main difference between the T and W series.  For heavy graphics work, the W series is the better option whereas the T series is designed for more business-oriented workloads. You then really have the slightly tricky decision for the CPU.  Currently Intel have not released full power Broadwell (5th gen) CPUs.  This means that the T550 and W550s have the 5th generation, low voltage CPUs.  While these are still good chips and will certainly improve battery life, they will be slightly less powerful than the full power counterparts and also don't have quad core options (they are all dual core with hyperthreading).  If you want a full power/quad core chip, you would need to then go for the W541, however this does mean you are getting a slightly older Haswell chip.  Whether this bothers you is really up to you.Whatever you do, also ensure that you get an IPS screen - The ThinkPad IPS screens are fantastic, the TN... Does anyone know if the IBM Thinkpad T42 audio card can support 5.1 speakers?

I don't know much about the card that is integrated into the motherboard, but I think it's a SoundMAX. I haven't been able to gather much more than that.

And if anyone has this setup, how is it working for you? The speakers built into thinkpads are not very good at all and are INCREDIBLY quiet.

Thanks.
----------------------
After writing this post I was looking up some random stuff and came across "AC'97 SoundMax codec." Can someone tell me a little bit more about this and what all its good for?

Answer:5.1 speakers with IBM Thinkpad

I can tell you right now for 5.1 sound your laptop has to have 3 seperate jacks dedicated to sound output.

Green, Black, and Beige is generally the colors.

Some computers will have Green and Black, and then a pink one for a mic, however some have the option to disable the mic and use it as the 3rd jack.

I just bought a new Logitech Z-560 set, which comes with 4 satellite speakers and a subwoofer. After connecting everything, the two rear speakers are only making a kind of hissing noise, while playing NO sounds at all. The front two speakers are playing music, which sounds bit distorted, but the subwoofer is giving off this loud annoying sound. It sounds like this deep bass sound that just won't go away, it's a constant deep bass sound. I connected the speakers to my sound card, which I believe is only 2-channel. Does 2-channel mean that I can only get 2 speakers to work, not 4? Any ideas why the woofer is making this annoying sound? I turned down the bass but it doesn't help. The front 2 speakers don't even play sounds clearly either.

I have a T430s for personal use and a W530 from work and feel that the speakers can see a definite improvement. People who own a Nexus 7 would know how much better speakers that small tablet has compared to our thinkpads.

Answer:[Request] Better speakers on next gen thinkpad

Good speakers on a ThinkPad are a thing of the past. The Core i ThinkPads are particularly bad, even most phones sound better. If you want better sound you'll need to switch brands. Most gaming laptops have decent speakers so you might want to try those.

I have an IBM Thinkpad laptop, and for some reason, the speakers keep fading in and out from session to session. When I first got it, the sound was really audible and clear; lately, even at maximum volume, it's hard to hear. And some days it's simply hard to hear and some days it's completely inaudible even at maximum volume. I've taken to always using headphones, since when I plug in headphones into the jack, the sound is always audible. What's up with the speakers? Anyone else ever experience this problem?

So this has been happening every three months and I've been able to fix it by updating BIOs/audio drivers, but this time I'm really stuck. I've tried all the troubleshooting solutions on lenovo with no luck:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/videos/ht051307https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht501860 I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and restarting the Realtek High Definition Audio many times, and also tried rolling back to an older version I've used the automated Lenovo System Update and also tried getting the latest drivers and BIOs from the Lenovo website. Windows 10 is up to dateAudio Driver is: Realtek High Definition Audio 6.0.1.7824, High Definition Audio Device Microsoft 10.0.14393.0BIOs is: R0AET33W (1.16) USB headphones do work though... Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks

This particular model has two of these indicators, one on the back of the lid, and another next to the keyboard. The one next to the keyboard still works fine, but the one on the back of the lid stopped working altogether in the past day or so. This laptop is only a month old, so I suspect it's a software malfunction and not faulty hardware. It would be nice to get this handy little feature back. Thanks!

Answer:ThinkPad logo "i" LED indicator stopped working on ThinkPad Twist (S230U)

take the hdd out and start the laptop without the hdd, if the LED light doesn't come on then you have a hardware problem.

Machine: T520 bought Feb. 2012O.S. W~7 Pro 64-bit I want to wipe the harddrive, buy a Lenovo W~7 PRO installation DVD, and do a completely clean installation. Lenovo User Guide (.pdf) Ch. 8, Adv'd Config, Installing Windows 7, p. 295 (212 of 298) says:Start Thinkpad setup, then choose UEFI versus Legacy, then insert the installation DVD. This obviously does not apply when the harddrive has already been wiped (necessary to 100% eliminate all traces of irreversible damage caused by a virus, including the re-installation partition (Q-drive). When an intallation DVD is purchased from Lenovo, is not the first step to insert the DVD ?!! Then presumably there is an installation wizard resulting in a restored O.S. ?!! If not, please tell me what surprises are in store, and where I can find a reliable written resource to consult !!! Thank-you.
