Windows 10 Picture Password login lacks multiple user choice!

Question: Windows 10 Picture Password login lacks multiple user choice!

How's that possible?
Imagine a tablet (SP3 or whatever; mine is a Dell), Win10, two users. Both have chosen the Picture Password login. Nice.
First showstopper: At device turn on, the last accessed user login is present. No worries, it was so for 8.1 as well. But there was a back arrow to go back picking another one.
Here is not: Win10 Picture Password login has nothing. Niet. Nada. Only the picture. And some useless space on the left. You want to choose another user? Nein. You can't from there!
I tried different methods: swipes (what? In Win10? All gone, me fool!), pressing ESC (I've a connected keyboard), pressing my account image. nothing.
The only way? You must click to choose a different method of access (aka Text Password). From there there is the users-picker that let you choose another user.
Why MS did not add that in the Picture Password login as well? What were they thinking when they removed the back arrow in Win10??
Are they really thinking we're all running and buy brand new Hello enabled devices, maybe? Is Picture password now "oldies", already?
Being a kid one of the two above users, I can't really stay with Win10 until this situation is ironed out. And no, not a single registry options works for that matter (THIS worked for Win8.x to even automatically-go-back to the multiple user screen; but that screen's entirely gone in Win10).
A tablet is a tablet. Drawing on its screen is far better than tapping keys (alphanumeric or PIN, whatever) while holding it.
I definitely call this a regression on MS part.
This is a uservoice suggestion I made for that issue: https://windows.uservoice.com/forums...ck-different-a
Thanks. I'm going to wait TH2, for the matters.

Preferred Solution: Windows 10 Picture Password login lacks multiple user choice!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows 10 Picture Password login lacks multiple user choice!

And Threshold2 did not introduce any real change to this mess... The imperative is: Go PIN or GTFO, apparently... ?_?

Your question is not clear.
But to answer it, Picture Password is associated with the Primary User Account. If that account is your Microsoft Email account, then Picture Password will be linked with it.

This happened after I got some PC Performance boosting software. I turn on the computer and I have another log in username called "Administrator". I understand (supposedly) that this is only supposed to show up in Safe Mode. What happened? Also, Advanced WindowsCare says that my system is NOT optimized due to this software.. but I think it does run faster!

I would like to use a different shorter password for my screensaver, then to log onto windows.

WHY:good question, my windows password needs to be secure enough to secure my webmail, and other security issues, but my screen saver does not need to be that secure, because my computer is in a very secure location.

Answer:user different password for screensaver and Windows login

Windows password is not exactly secure, not sure it would make much difference if you used shorter for both, if someone wants to logon its pretty easy

Whenever a user changes their Windows password, the next time they open their mail, it prompts them for user name & password. It appears that the user's password changes the Windows Mail password, thus causing Windows Mail to prompt for it because the newly saved password doesn't work. I can't find any help on this anywhere. Any ideas how to unlink this?

After multiple Hibernation events: windows login fails to recognize correct password

After repeatedly hibernating the computer for about a week or 2, it will eventually refuse to recognize legitimate password and fail to login, yielding "did you forget your password" message.

IF I shut down the computer (thus losing all open windows) and reboot, the password works fine. I have repeatedly changed passwords, but this does not help.

Windows XP Hibernate feature has never worked properly and that is why Windows defaults with this feature off and hidden from newbies. I love the concept but have always found it to be buggy on every machine it has been on. Periodic shutdown and restart is needed to flush memory, but this is the first time I have seen this particular issue.

It seems to occur when Hibernation fails to stay off and the computer immediately re-awakens when hibernate shutdown is complete. In other words, unit will not stay in Hibernation but cycles back on, unless power cord is pulled. When power is returned, computer may immediately boot up.

This problem began on a newly assembled computer with fresh XP SP2 install. (AMD dual core 6000; 2GB RAM; Asus M2N-E motherboard). All updates done, including XP's problem with dealing with 1GB of RAM and more.

Internet usage is safe and clean on main sites only. I Use AVAST antivirus, Spybot, Ad-Aware. I used a SmitfraudFix as I thought I had an infection.

I use both Firefox and Explo... Read more

Answer:After multiple Hibernation events: windows login fails to recognize correct password

Gee, I am disapointed that no one was able to suggest something here. I did my part by helping others, so what's the prob?

Because this involves immediate rebooting of the computer(hardware?) AND a software issue of not recognizing password, I am leaning to CPU issue. I have seen some weird issues in past that were CPU. I do not have a tester CPU; I do have anothe MB and may try that.

Hi 7forum!

This is my last resort, so please help me!
I have after a long time searching ended up here on this forum.

What I want to do is simply to remove the picture & frame on my login screen, only the password, my name, switch user should be left on the screen.

To clarify, I don't want to:
Remove the whole login screen.
Remove password protection.
Remove anything else except for that picture and frame.

Thats pretty much it, I would be really thankful if somebody could help me with this because I'm close to changing to linux just to get rid of it .

Thanks in advance!

I have changed my login screen background picture using Windows 10 Login Screen Changer (available at the MyDigitalLife forums). Unfortunately, the option to Disable User Account picture won't work for me, so I had to delete all the copies of my account pic in the 'UserAccountPictures' folder, so that my login background image doesn't show my account pic.
This also removes the account pic from the top of my Start menu, my User Account Profile, and online at all Microsoft sites.

There MUST be a way to enable an account picture everywhere EXCEPT on the login screen ...? I'm not adverse to editing the registry, or changing system files, if need be. I've been a computer enthusiast since the mid '80s, and I want my OS to do what I want it to do, not what the 'mighty' Microsoft deems to be the options I should be allowed to tinker with.

Answer:How to remove user picture from login screen, but keep it elsewhere?

This no longer works in the later Insider Preview builds. If you have found a way I would like to know how you did it. I am currently using build 14388. I hate any picture on my login screen. MS has moved it elsewhere and has now made the account picture transparent.

My computer was displaying some abnormal behavior this weekend where it was registering the touchpad portion, but not the keyboard portion of my Logitech wireless keyboard-touchpad combo. I thought a simple reboot would solve the problem, but it's only led to a whole bigger issue.

The reboot process much more slowly than normal, but computer did load eventually load the lock screen correctly. However, when I click to move to the login screen, I'm met with mostly blank login screen with no login box and no apparent way to login. The only things on the screen are the accessibility and power buttons in the lower corners of the screen. I've included a screenshot below.

Any ideas on how to fix this short of a clean install of Windows 8.1? I've tried rebooting four or five times and I get the same login screen each time. I also tried to "refresh" my Windows installation, but it failed around 13%

My apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

Is there a way for me to set up automatic logging in at start up of, lets say, 4-5 user accounts? The accounts serve no purpose other than running different instances of a program that I could then manage from my main account, but for each instance to initialize, I have to manually log in to each account on system startup. (I'm also seeking to find a way to hide those accounts, but I can't do so yet because I have to log in to each account every time I restart my computer.) So a program or registry edit of some sort would be most helpful

I've done some research, but as of now, I've only found a way to auto-log in one account (presumably intended for main accounts) so this is useless to me. ("control userpasswords2" in Run)

Just to clarify, all of my accounts are password protected, though the additional accounts have very basic passwords (which is required). I do want to keep a password on my main account, and I don't want to auto log in my main account.

Thanks!

Hope this is the proper forum.
I'm having a few problems (symptoms) of a login in problem. The good news - I no longer need a password when W8 'wakes up.' But I still need a password (PIN) on startup. That I want to eliminate.
But that's not all. I've found 3 different ways to remove the password. None work. I've found I can reset my password but I nee my email address and Microsoft Account (apparently a number) which I don't know and don't see it in my documentation.
I'm using (rather, trying to) Syncback as my backup app. When I create a schedule for a run, I get a prompt for my Windows password. I enter my login password but get an "incorrect password" prompt. It is NOT the incorrect password.
Are all these symptoms of one problem? How do I find/remove my W8 password?

Answer:user Login password

Hello Alias, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The tutorial below can help show you how to have Windows 8 sign in to a user account of your choice automatically at startup.

Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup

The password for your Microsoft account will be the same as for the email account used for it. You cannot remove a password for a Microsoft account, but you can change or reset it if needed.

I have a domain joined Surface Pro 2 running 8.1 Pro.
The following GPO settings are in place:

* Assign a default domain for logon

* Do not display last logged on user

* Disable logging in with Microsoft accounts - uses the following registry setting - MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\NoConnectedUser - Value = 3

The end goal is for the machine to boot to the login screen that just displays empty user name and password fields
The problem at the moment is that instead of doing that, the client boots to a screen where the only option is to click on "Other user". Only then does the login screen I want, where they enter their username and password in full, actually appear.
These Surface Pro 2's are to be used by small children, and have the "Other User" screen appear is confusing for them, as well as being very annoying for me. It's completely unnecessary.
I've searched all over the 'net looking for an easy way to get the client to boot straight to the standard domain joined log in screen, but every time it just boots to this "Other User" screen that has to be clicked on in order to get the correct
login screen to come up.
Is there any way I can get this to boot straight to the login screen I want?

I am Arun Kumar Kushwaha and I have discovered one Big Loophole/Security Leak in Microsoft's Windows 7 Operating System worldwide.
through which we can Access/Delete/Copy/Replace Important Data without Cracking/Resetting the Login Password in Windows 7 OS
and for this we not need any 3rd party Software/ CD/ DVD/ Pen drive/ CMD/ Script/ or any other means of hacking Devices/tool.

only through Windows 7 OS we can Access anybodies Computer Around the world, and user will never get to know that his/her computer has accessed by someone else.
This is purely Microsoft's Negligence towards user's Around the world.

U can assume how much serious is this Issue, if anybody can steal confidential Important data of Company/ Govt data/ or any other Sensitive Personal data of anyone who are using windows 7 OS.

I have Talked through telephone to MS India regarding this Issue and they told me that there is no loophole in their OS and can't be accessed by anyone without having Login Password or User need to Reset login Password with tool/software available.

also i have mailed to MS Technical support Team and also asked about this issue on Windows worldwide official support forum, but not get any meaning full response from them.

I am asking this message to here, coz i want to Spread this issue around the world, so every user can secure their Data and also MS can rectify this issue by releasing an OS Update.

Hello, recently I jumped on to my parent's PC when I was in town, and noticed that SpySweeper was open several times on the desktop.

The windows were "sticky" - none of the UI worked on all but 1 of the instances, so I checked task manager, and there was an instance of SpysweeperUI.exe assigned out as running, but assigned to 3 different users. So if i'm logged in as "joe" then I'd see a process for SpysweeperUI.exe running under "joe" "bob" and "sue" in the task manager, yet can't shut down the instances assigned to the other users unless i log out and log in as them.

They're running XP Home edition with 6 users set up, and are convinced that there's some hacker trying to mess with their spyware program...I know it's probably just an installation issue, but I've reinstalled it on an administrator account, upgraded to the latest release and they're reporting the same problem.

I've contacted Webroot's support department but haven't heard back yet. Any ideas?

Answer:How to display multiple local user accounts at login screen?

Hi, mikemet, and welcome to the Windows 10 Forums.

Which version of Windows 10 ae you running on your machine? I am on Insider Preview build 14965 and there is a Group Policy item that is made exactly for that, but it may be build specific or may have appeared since the Anniversary Update, I cannot be sure as I never went looking for this particular setting until you posted your question.

See if your Group Policy has the following:

Enumerate local users on domain-joined computers (Computer Configuration --> Administrative templates --> System --> Logon)

If so, try enabling that and seeing if it works, and (moreimportantly) if it sticks after the first non-domain login on the laptop.

EDIT: Added the following

OK, looking up that GP entry, I see that according to Enumerate local users on domain-joined computers | Windows security encyclopedia that it has been around since Windows 8, so you should have it on your machine, assuming you're not running Windows 10 Home joined to a domain.

Hello,

I'm having an issue that's preventing me from logging into my Lenovo Thinkpad T410 with Windows 10. Previously you could swipe your finger on the fingerprint scanner to both turn the computer on, and login. Since the Windows 10 upgrade, that was no longer supported, so the power button would be pressed, which would take you to the Windows login screen, at which point a finger swipe would handle the Windows login, and bring you to the desktop.

Yesterday, when trying to start up, at the Login screen, the fingerprint scan did nothing. On the rare occasion over the years when there'd be an issue with the fingreprint scanner, pressing a key would bring up the ability to enter the Windows password. However, when I tried to do so yesterday, it would just slightly magnify the background picture, now revealing the Internet, Accessability and Power buttons in the lower right, but nothing else. There were no Users listed in the middle, and no place to enter a password.

I've searched for hours for solutions, and have not come across many similar situations, which is unusual. I saw suggestions to hold Shift, then Restart in order to bring up the ability to boot in Safe Mode, but that doesn't work (even holding Shift throughout), it only brings you back to the login screen. Other suggestions all revolve around changing settings once into Windows, but I'm never able to get to the desktop.

I'm setting up a new (old Dell CPx) laptop running Win2000. When I create a new user with admin rights, and give that user a password, then try to login as that user with a password, it fails with an error that either the password or domain is incorrect.

I'm using a wireless card to connect to a Netgear router that connects to DSL. But admitedly am relatively new at setting up home (or any) network. I can login to the system as admin, with no password, but obviously would like everything to be password protected. I've checked the property settings on the user, am not using a login script or domain (that I'm aware of), but cannot see any other setting that needs chsnging.

Then I used ctrl alt del to go into the other login screen and to login as administrator but that didn't work either. I tried "administrator" with no password, then "administrator" with "admin" as password, then "administrator" with passwords I frequently use. Nothing. Computer says check user name/domain/password.

Iam wondering: when I go into this login screen the "user name" window is already filled in with "photekxl," a handle that I frequently use (as you see here). If the window is already filled in does that mean I definitely have an account with that name, even though I don't remember the password?

Also tried "guest" with no pass and it says my guest account has been removed and to "contact the system administrator." Funny.

Please tell me there is a way to get into my files as a guest or something without having to login somewhere? Boot from a CD? Hack into it somehow? I have lots of school and work related files that I simply can't lose so reinstalling is not an option unless it's the only one. PLEASE HELP!!! Appreciate the responses.

I am new to Linux, and i am having problems after the install. After running the Ubuntu Live CD and liking it, due to its compatibility with my hardware, i decided to full install, no dual boot, kiss windows goodbye!! when the computer restarts and all is good, its time for the 186 updates to download and install. but when it is time to reboot yet again, it comes up, i put in my user name and password, then it is stuck on a "yellowish" screen, and all that works is a mouse curser. I also notice after slamming my keyboard keys in a fit of rage (after 10 minutes of nothing, but losing patience), i can put the computer to sleep with some order of a key command... and hitting the space bar wakes it up. so i do see that keyboard short cuts still work (well, "button mashing" at least) would anyone know if this is a video problem? or some bug like a screen saver, or just plain madness and incompatibility with new software updates on the system?

Maybe this is a broken package during upgrade. What you need to do is start in safe mode from GRUB and/or at the graphical log-in go to the little menu on one side, and choose log in to command line.

When you get the command line, log in to your account.

Then:

Code:
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install

I have Windows 7. Whenever I turn on my computer, it takes me to my Log In screen. Here, it asks me to enter my username and password. I would like to customize my Log In screen so that it always shows my username only (and no other users), and only asks for my password. I've done this before, but I can't remember how. Good evening from Graz,

i have quite a strange problem on my personal pc since the last few days. I cannot login to my useraccount(which has a transparent picture at the logon screen since a few days).
I have just one workarround: if i login with my adminaccount and logoff, the userpicture of my privateaccount appears again and the login is possible.

What could this problem be related to?

Hello. I am a very basic user and on my 2006 (yes, that old) X60s ThinkPad i do not remember my user logon password. For years I have just used the fingerprint reader.  Can anyone tell me how/if I can reset the logon password once I have entered using the fingerprint reader?  Am looking forward to hearing from some kind knowledgeable soul. Thanks. R.

Answer:How to change login user password after logging in with fingerprint reader?

rgarland, welcome to the forum,

good question, that also creates a problem.  Discussing how to get around security measures, including fingerprints and passwords is actually against the forum rules.

Hopefully this isn't breaking the forum rules;

Assuming your user account has Admin rights it should be possible to log in using your finger print, which I presume according to your post is the case. When you then go into Users in Control Panel hopefully you have the possibility to reset the password for your user account and enter a new password without having to enter the old one.

Now you have the problem that the fingerprint is associated with the original password now different to the one you have just set which means your fingerprint wont work if you log out and want to log in again.  You will need to go to fingerprint software and delete your passport and then recreate it.

In theory this should work, but I've never been in a position to try it as I've never forgotten a password, or finger come to that

edit; for clarity

Today, there were numerous short power outages in my area.  About 7 over 20 minute period.  Tried to start windows 7 pro and would not start.  Automatic diagnostics could not fix the issue.  I declined system restore and did hard reboot instead.

Windows 7 pro loaded but asked me for a password.  I did not have a password set up.  Before, when promoted for a password to perform changes, the screen would display my user name (Dell T7500) and a blank password field. Pressing enter with that blank password field allowed for changes as administrator.

I don't think that I had to enter user name and password to get in after Windows loaded before.  Now I do.  Again, no password was set for the only user.  I am now presented with a user login screen for user Dell T7500.  Now when I hit enter with a blank password field I get message that says user or password incorrect.  No other user is set up and no password should be required for user Dell T7500.

Perhaps the auto startup diagnostics routine and the subsequent windows diagnostics caused this issue.

I hate to take the thing apart and cancel bios/cmos passwords by taking out the module and not sure that is what is needed.  I think I need password help at the OS level.  Help!

With Windows 10, Microsoft Blatantly Disregards User Choice and Privacy: A Deep Dive

The tactics Microsoft employed to get users of earlier versions of Windows to upgrade to Windows 10 went from annoying to downright malicious. Some highlights: Microsoft installed an app in users? system trays advertising the free upgrade to Windows 10. The app couldn?t be easily hidden or removed, but some enterprising users figured out a way. Then, the company kept changing the app and bundling it into various security patches, creating a cat-and-mouse game to uninstall it.

Eventually, Microsoft started pushing Windows 10 via its Windows Update system. It started off by pre-selecting the download for users and downloading it on their machines. Not satisfied, the company eventually made Windows 10 a recommended update so users receiving critical security updates were now also downloading an entirely new operating system onto their machines without their knowledge. Microsoft even rolled in the Windows 10 ad as part of an Internet Explorer security patch. Suffice to say, this is not the standard when it comes to security updates, and isn?t how most users expect them to work. When installing security updates, users expect to patch their existing operating system, and not see an advertisement or find out that they have downloaded an entirely new operating system in the process.

In May 2016, in an action designed in a way we think was highly deceptive, Microsoft actually chang... Read more

Friend of family had a stroke, can't remember user password. It happens. I'm an old ex network admin, so pretty savy here yet Totally stumped, short of spending money to buy something. Here is what I've tried to do to get to the command prompt, so I can run net user to enable the administrator login, which is defaulted as disabled on 7. other option is that someone logged into my outlook and chaged profile picture then it got synced...

I cannot find any information on why or how picture would revert. ( even more so on a specific date )

any ideas or leads ?

Hello newbiew, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since you Microsoft account is synced by default, then it most likely automatically changed back after syncing.

If you wanted to have the same user account picture for all devices, then changing it for everything should help.

If you only wanted to change it on this PC, then you could turn off syncing for Appearance under "Personalization settings" using the tutorial below.

Hi everybody,

I wish to disable the account picture on my login screen. That is to say, I want a flat-coloured screen, which displays the user/account name and the password line only as I prefer a clean slender design.

I already disabled the login screen background towards a flat-coloured one using the following registry hack:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]
?DisableLogonBackgroundImage?=dword:00000001

____________________________________________________________________________________________________ _
At this point my message should end, but since I busied myself with this registry topic, I started to wonder how to define not rename) the name of a DWORD/registry key at all:

- How can I know, what is the right wording/coding for a DWORD in order to make it work properly? How do I know, which expression does Windows recognize? Is there any library or handbook?
- How can I know whats the right path/directory, where a DWORD/registry key needs to placed?

I dont expect you to answer the bundle of last questions, since they do not belong to my thread initiation - so it is still just about the account picture.
Nevertheless I would deeply appreciate any buzzwords or hints you may have in mind, that help me to get a bit deeper into the adressed matter, as I am keen to learn and improve.

Many thanks in andvance!!!

Hello all- I've got a fairly new T440s for which I've set up fingerpringt reading. I was wondering if there'd be an (easy) way to change the picture displayed on the welcome/login screen. I'm not talking about the background, but the icon in the middle that is currently a picture of a fingerprint.  I looked around at other threads and they either referred to editing .dll files (above my head a bit) or some picture in "C:\Program Files\ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" which is not a directory on my machine. I'm running the latest version of Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro, and nothing in the Fingerprint Manager Pro program files looked persipacious. Any tips would be appreciated. Many thanks!

Answer:Change fingerprint login icon/picture - Windows 7

It's not possible on T440s.  The other threads you read were about the fingerprint software for older systems (T430s and earlier) which was different.  On T440s, it's just using the Windows built-in fingerprint credential provider.  If you were to hack the built-in OS files, it would invalidate the signature of the file and the fingerprint option probably wouldn't load at that point.  So in summary - that graphic is simply not designed to be changed, changing it requires hacking which would probably break things.

I have a client that brought me his laptop for removal of the login password. Apparently, his neighbor's cousin -the computer "expert"- added the password to make the PC "harder to hack when you're on the internet" - yeah, his words, not mine, whatever rolleyes. This expert neglected to write down the password, and cannot remember exactly what the password is. Anyhow- here's the problem: when using the tools I normally use for this (Active Password Changer and/or the 'Locksmith' feature in the ERD/MSDaRT), they do not show the account that is passworded. But if I use a file explorer from a preinstall environment, I can see the account in question. This is confusing; let me clarify: If I browse to C:\Users using the file explorer in ERD/MSDaRT or UBCD4Win, I see the normal "Administrator" account, the normal "Guest" account, an account we'll call "Bob", and an account we'll call "Joe". The password is on the account "Joe". When using a password changing tool, the account "Joe" is not listed, only the normal "Administrator" and "Guest" or "Public" accounts, and the "Bob" account. When I boot to Windows and get to the login screen, the account Joe comes up, but not the account Bob. Answer:Windows7- "Hidden" user account and login password problems

Not sure about the reg fix but you might want to try PClogin and see if it detects all of the accounts. If it detects the account, just check the box marked password is empty. This clears the password. If the "expert" used EFS to encrypt the files of the account then resetting the password would cause all the encrypted files to be inaccessible.

HiI have new installation of Win XP Home SP3. If I go to control panel -> user accounts I can select new user picture... However, it won't update itself in that window, e.g. if I select a ball and click "change" button (or doubleclick the picture), I will be back to account overview screen (with options to change password, picture etc.), but the user picture will remain the same (duck in this example). However if I open start menu I can see that picture has changed. ??? What can be wrong? If I select another picture without closing user accounts window it will get updated with previous picture in that window (and with correct image in start menu). If I close the user accounts window and open it again it will be with correct picture... Same thing happens for and from different accounts (limited/ admin)

Hi everyone..
I'm fairly technical and was a network and tech Director for a few years so have some familiarity with prior Windows versions but Win 7 is a bit new to me. I went to login today, and my login picture had been changed. Looking in Windows Event Viewer under Security, I can see it occurred at 12:25 in the morning. I was on another computer at that time, and running a utility from Microsoft on the PC in question that just collects system information.

I was trying to figure out why it changed and reviewing the event logs. I don't see the reason, only that an account change occurred. I replicated it by changing my picture again to another one, and the same system event occurred confirming its identity.

So basically, I had a flower as the login picture. On its own, it changed to a fish. I didn't make the change. I wasn't even using this machine at that time; however a Windows utility from MS was running -- but -- I reran that same utility tonight (it's one that just reports system usage) and it did not change the picture so I believe that is coincidence.

So my question is, why would Windows 7 change the default logon picture for a user on its own to something else? To help with information the utility that MS had me run was the Microsoft Product Support Reports.

There are also multiple instances on this computer, the one where the picture changed on its own, of another PC that was running Windows 2000 logging into it as a SYSTEM, and then loggin... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 User Logon Picture Changed On Its Own

Hi Danielle

What firewall and antivirus?

Is it a new install or upgrade?

Any shares on it?

Other users?

Are you logged on as a std user or admin?

Is UAC enabled?

I visited a colleague on Monday and his PC had two logins when first starting up
1) Homegroupuser$ - which is highlighted
2) [email protected] - main admin login

Any suggestions as to 1) why it has appeared and 2) how to safely remove from the login screen

Thanks

Answer:Homegroupuser$ choice on login screen

He has created two logins. One using a Microsoft ID and one using the Homegroup ID Password. He may have created a secondary user profile because one is corrupted.
If he can log into both accounts, and wants to remove one, then login as the user profile he is keeping. Use EasyBCD to edit the boot file to remove the other user.

I'm trying to find the file location for the user account picture, I found a page that said it was in programData\microsoft\... etc. All I can find in there is the user.jpg (as it said), but that's a random flower, not the picture I set it to, also in there i find a Brydon.dat (my computer and account's name), but it's a blank file.
I'm on an HP computer running windows 7 ultimate (OEM) and the default picture was the HP logo.

Answer:User account picture location HP windows 7 ultimate.

Hello packocrayons, and welcome to Seven Forums.

The user account picture is stored in the hidden folder below as (username).bmp. C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Temp

The other location you mentioned is for the default image when the account is created new instead.User Logon Display Picture - Set Default for All Users

I would like the picture password feature available on the PC version of windows to be available for windows phones too. It's a very neat innovative feature and would certainly raise the bar against Android and iOS. Though its a small thing, it will give a nice look to the whole OS. I don't know whether there are any technical difficulties in bringing this feature for phones. Thanks :D

Answer:Wish list: Picture Password on Windows 10 for phones

I can second this! I'd love to see this feature available as a form of lockscreen 'password'.

In administrative tools, I had inadvertanly disabled a user account. Now after rebooting the computer, I get a screen that says "Click on user name" but there are no choices to choose from. The only option at the bottom left of the screen is "Click here to shut down".

How do I get past this screen to get logged into my computer?

Answer:No User Name choice at log in

Assuming this is XP Pro from your PC Specs, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL twice -- This should give the login box. Enter Administrator for user name and then the Administrator password. If Xp came pre-installed, try leaving the password blank. That should get you in to re-enable or recreate a user account.

Does anybody know if a program exist that reads the PS2 upon boot up and if nothing is there it automatically defaults to a com port for the mouse. A friend of mine has a laptop with a serial mouse he uses at home and a ps2 mouse at work. Also with it defaulting to the serial mouse would the laptop built in mouse controls still work.

Thanks,
Phil

Answer:Multiple choice of mouses

Not sure I'm following you.........whatever mouse is connected will be recognized.........as a matter of fact it is possible to have two mice connected.........right now I have a USB mouse and PS/2 mouse connected (for testing purposes) and both work.

I've had a problem recently. I think it started after installing StyleXP to change my Windows visual style. I've since uninstalled StyleXP, but it has not resolved the problem.

My user picture that is usually at the top of the start menu is missing. In addition the green arrow icons and question mark icons in the User Accounts control panel are also missing (I just see red X's). I've tried changing my user picture in the control panel and it does not make a difference. I made sure to restore the default icons in StyleXP before uninstalling, but that didn't matter either.

I've since switched to Windowblinds and IconPackager. I've tried restoring default WinXP icons from IconPackager as well with no luck. Any ideas here? I'll upload some screenshots when I get back home, but I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Answer:Missing user picture and icons in User Acct control panel

I've tried logging in under another user and I have the same problem. Here's a screenshot of the issue. Notice the red X's and the blank user picture box in the start menu.

So I updated my windows 7 to windows 10 , while on my admin acct. But when windows 10 boots up its on my kids acct. and I don't see the admin acct. anymore . I have only found confusing info on this topic . Could someone tell me where it is or how to get it back. Thx alot

Answer:Windows 10 user login?

I've found the same thing and I don't think you can do much apart from have all your account logins via a Microsoft as opposed to a local account. My desktop has two admin accounts and only one has a Microsoft log in. If the other user with the local account was the last one to use the computer it always boots directly into that account. If it was me who used it last I get the screen offering a choice of accounts at boot up. To start with I thought there was a glitch but I think now that it's just the way it has to be.

I set up my Windows 8.1 tablet offline at my dad's and used a nude photo of my girlfriend as the user account picture. All done offline. About a week later, the tablet forced me to link it with my Microsoft account in order to continue to log into windows. Now I am finding that same nude picture is showing up when I am on the Microsoft website. That would not make my girlfriend happy if she found that out and I don't think the public needs her urinating. How can I prevent it from automatically posting it online. When I go to my account using a web browser, I can change it back to the Sylveon I originally had, and my user account on the tablet will still be my girlfriend, but eventually the nude photo returns to the Microsoft website. How do I stop this?

Answer:prevent Windows 8 from taking my user account picture and posting it to MS Websi

I don't know if you can stop it. I believe that if you log in to windows 8.1  everything you do with a Microsoft account if you log in to your computer that way will be transferd to all your devices  using that account.

I only have one account and it still requires me to press enter or click the account picture to log on. It doesn't have password and I already tried unchecking "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" from "netplwiz" command in CMD.

I already searched it on Google and a lot of users already fixed the problem by unchecking the thing from "netplwiz".

Answer:Logging on Windows requires to press [Enter] or click the user picture

Hello Azrock, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Unchecking "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" would only automatically log you in at startup.

I am the owner and administrator of this computer. I was upset at my son for rearranging things on my computer and changed my password. then i did something really stupid (being so upset) and made my own hint and put it as what he won't know. I thought my hint answer was "youwontknowthisone", but I have tried all I can think of and can't remember what I did. How can I get back on my part of the computer and keep him off???

Answer:bypass windows 7 user login

Sorry this isn't productive at all but I have to say it. Loldo you have a floppy or cd drive? There are plenty of boot disk setups that clear passwords store locally.

I have a HP laptop with fingerprint scanner and was built with Windows 7 Home Premium. On this laptop I had 2 admin user and one guest. Everyday since I bought it I was able to see all 3 users on the login screen. Since last week I now see the last logged in user and other users. The laptop won't even recognized my fingerprint if the other user was logged in before me.

Answer:windows 7 only displays last user at login

While waiting for a more direct answer from someone who is familiar with this problem, back up your personal files to another (external) drive... If you get locked out of your account(s) and have to do a factory restore, you will already have saved your important stuff. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. This site is about helping people, lets keep it that way.

pc: amd athlon 64x2 dual core processor 5200+
2.70 GHz, 2GB of RAM

Issue: boot up normal, User log on incredibly slow (5mins to get to desktop)
when desktop loads, speeds normal.

What have we done:
Cleaned msconfig start up
cleaned registry
removed all malware
removed all PUPs
run windows cleanup procedure as suggested by this forum.

We are now stumped! Why is the user account load so slow?

Answer:Windows XP user login very slow

Have you run chkdsk /f /r? Open the command prompt and type chkdsk /f /r, making sure there are spaces before the slashes, and then press enter. Or you can run chkdsk from the Tools tab of the main drive disk properties menu (check in both boxes). Reboot after the chkdsk is finished. This might solve your problem...

Recommend scanning with Malwarebytes' first to see if it turns up anything. Make sure to update to the latest definitions. Full scan is always better than a quick scan, but you could run a quick scan and then the chkdsk /f /r. Then you can run a full scan during a time when you will be away from the PC...

If the chkdsk /f /r doesn't fix the problem, reopen command prompt and type sfc /scannow and press enter. This may require a Windows installation disk to complete the process...
