Remove a single website from address bar history / autocomplete?

Question: Remove a single website from address bar history / autocomplete?

In Chrome you can start typing a website and when the autocomplete comes up, press SHIFT-DEL to remove it. In Internet Explorer, you can just click on the black X in the autocomplete list that comes up.
In Edge - how do I remove a single site from history/autocomplete? For example. I typed in the wrong website Now, when I start typing "facebook" in Edge, it autocompletes to the wrong one "facebok" instead. I'd like to just remove the incorrect one from the list.

Preferred Solution: Remove a single website from address bar history / autocomplete?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Remove a single website from address bar history / autocomplete?

Can someone tell me how I can remove a single address visited from history

The ONLY way is to clear settings - but what if I don't want to do that

Let's say I was trying to visit
And instead I typed
Whether or not the wrong address had a valid link doesn't matter - the damn address stays in browser history
I'll find myself visiting the wrong address again and again and again!

I'll type the first few letters and will of course get the suggestions - from which I naturally choose the first one without looking
But even if I pay attention, it's annoying having the damn wrong address just popping up again!

I am running windows vista basic and internet explorer 8. I have tried multiple times to clear my browsing history using both the "safety" and "tools" drop down menu in internet explorer. The history under the "favorites" icon clears, but the history and autocomplete in the address bar does not unfortunately delete. I have tried to delete each item in the address bar separately, but every time I load internet explorer, the history is still there. I have tried to reset the internet explorer settings under the advanced tab, and I have also tried to reset the history under "control panels." I have tried to delete the autocomplete history under the content tab and the sites remain. I tried running CCleaner and am still having the same problem. The history is cleared, but the address bar with autocomplete stills shows the browsing history. I have run multiple antivirus and malware scans on my computer using AdAware, superantispyware, defender, symantec, and malware bytes. The only thing that came up was superantispyware detected "rootkit.agent/gen_local." I deleted this from my system yet the problem remains. I have also tried to go under the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\internet explorer\typed URLs but no files show up to delete individually. Any thoughts? Thanks

Answer:internet explorer 8 autocomplete address bar history not clearing

Hi elliott05,Very sorry, you slipped through the cracks. Did you rerun SuperAntiSpyware to make sure it comes up clean? If not, please do that using the following settings for the scan. They are slightly different than the default settings.Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe to launch the program. If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from SAS updates. Double-click on the hyperlink for Download Installer and save SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to your desktop. Then double-click on SASDEFINITIONS.EXE to install the definitions.)Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program.Do not run a scan just yet.
In the Main Menu, click the Preferences... button.Click the "General and Startup" tab, and under Start-up Options, make sure "Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts" box is unchecked.Click the "Scanning Control" tab, and under Scanner Options, make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):

I have an annoying problem on the AT&T log-in page. It started a couple of days ago when I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. To log in I must first enter my email address. The first time I accidentally mistyped it and now every time I log in it offers (suggests) this incorrect email address as an autocomplete option. HOW DO I DELETE IT FROM AUTOCOMPLETE? I would actually prefer NO prompt at all. I do NOT check the box asking if I want AT&T to remember my email address and password. Again, how I remove this incorrect autocomplete email address prompt on the log-in page, and hopefully remove any email address prompts.

I was wondering where IE's Autocomplete history is stored.
I can clear the Autocomplete history from Internet options but would like to know where it is actually stored.

Answer:Autocomplete history

The Auto Complete entries are taken from a couple of sources. They are as follows...

1) The Address Bar - which contains a list of the last 25 URL's entered. This list is kept in the registry under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs"

2) Visited URL's - Also used for Auto Complete. Located in the index.dat file usually found in c:\windows\temp\history\history.ie5. Make sure it's in the upper level History folder as there a several differnt index.dat 's spread throughout the file system.

Also, Autocomplete data is used to fill in the usernames and passwords, and other data on HTML forms. It is stored in encrypted format in the registry at:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider

i am just wondering if it is possible for internet history or auto complete to be recovered even if deleted with a deletion program (from
if so, how much can be recovered??

Answer:internet history and autocomplete

You can clear the histroy in IE by RIGHT clicking the blue "E" on the Desktop and choosing Properties. This will clear your history and you can clear the temp internet folder also.

As can this be recovered? Yes, if someone wanted to spend some money on some top end recovery tools, any data can be recovered if, and this is a big IF, the data hasn't been overwritten or if the drive hasn't been what's known as "zeroed" . The average person does not have the skills to recover deleted data very easily.

Becareful downloading those 3rd party programs that claim to wipe your system clean. Lots of times they add other software you may not be aware of and that software may be spyware type programs that will cause you more grief. More often than not, they take your money.

I'm running W98SE with IE6.
I have a few incorrect entries (specifically my e-mail address) that I mis-typed. The only problem is that every so often I select one of them in a small window (I try to remember to click on and check to be sure it's the right one- but every now and then I get in a hurry and choose the wrong one).
There are also several that I just don't want to pop up anymore. I don't want to clear the entire AC entries file (thats easy enough) because of all the different places with passwords and such remembered will have to be re-entered manually. Sounds trivial, but I would love to be able to selectively delete items.
After searching MS (and reading and learning WAY more than I need to Know) I finally came to a site that said you can't view the AC form history list. That's reasonable just because of the passwords and account info that you wouldn't want anyone else to get. I don't need to see the whole list- just lose the ones that I don't want anymore.
Any ideas, or do I clear it all and start typing again? Which would really tick me off if I did it again in the future.
Many thanks for any replies.

I am configuring settings for a library computer lab with 45 domain-joined computers. They run Internet Explorer 11 and all automatically log in to a shared public domain account. I want to use a GPO (or GPP, or any tool that lets me achieve my goal for
that matter) to disable AutoComplete for browsing history, but leave URL suggestions enabled. In other words, I want to be able to change the settings found in "Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete Settings" to have the "Browsing
History" box unchecked, but I don't want to do it on each computer individually. The other settings there (e.g. Favorites) don't matter to me
All I have found is to disable AutoComplete completely in my GPO completely by disabling "Turn on inline AutoComplete" found in User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet Settings\AutoComplete. This
is less than ideal, because it also disables search suggestions from Bing, which will be a useful feature for the lab's users.
So my question is: can I disable browsing history autocompletion, but leave Bing search suggestions enabled without having to go and change the settings on each computer individually?

Hello! I've got a problem with Internet Explorer's Autocomplete.

Using Autocomplete for easy access to URLs I recently visited is great, but one day I came home and typed one letter to bring up the Autocomplete history log, and it desplayed a rather... rude URL. :\

To get rid of this offensive URL, I tried clearing my history folder. It cleared Autocomplete of everything BUT the offensive URL. I also checked favorites folders and did a "find" on my computer for the offensive website's name and got nothing.

It's really embarrassing to have this URL pop up when friends or family use this computer. The only way I've been able to get rid of the offensive URL appearing among my Autocomplete options is to turn Autocomplete off. But since it's such a useful feature, I don't want to turn it off.

I've also checked my computer for Spyware using Spybot. Still no luck.

So is there a way to keep this offensive URL from appearing on my autocomplete list without turning my Autocomplete off? Thanks

Answer:IE's autocomplete (for web adresses) displaying offensive URL that history wont clear

Answer:Coping the autocomplete email address

I believe you are referring to the .NK2 file.

In XP, it is stored here:

drive:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\<profile name>.NK2

and in Win7:

drive:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\<profile name>.NK2

I believe it should just be a straight copy and paste job. Although you may have to start outlook using the following Run command:

outlook.exe /importnk2

I have only copied over NK2 files from '07 to '10 and you are required to start outlook like that for it add your NK2.

NOTE: If your profile name has changed (by default I believe it is 'Outlook' but I may be wrong) change the name of the NK2 to that of your profile.

To check your profile name, go to control panel, mail and then show profile and it should come up there.

I currently maintain 15 websites, for various different DIY products. Each website has its own email address. We have some one who deals with all email enquiries. We are noticing large amounts of spam. It has been suggested that we use a single email address for all 15 websites.

Other than its going to be a nightmare editing all of the websites to 1 email address, what other pros and cons are there for this idea.

Microsoft Outlook somehow saves all email addresses that you send to, even if they aren't part of your contacts lists. When typing filling out the To section of a new message, Outlook tries to autocomplete with a huge list of email addresses that you have used in the past. I find it extremely annoying to repeatedly see an email address that I used only once several months ago and will never use again.

Where does it same them? How do you remove them?

Answer:how to delete a address in the history address bar

Assuming you mean in IE, to delete Autocomplete entries from the Address bar list:

The AutoComplete feature saves previous entries you've made for Web addresses, forms, and passwords. To delete entries from the Address bar, you must clear your History folder. You cannot clear individual entries from the list of saved entries.

On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
Click the General tab, under "History" click Clear History.

I am unable to access a single website.

I was able to via DSL but just switched to cable (optimumonline). The curious bit is that I have a router and didn't change any settings.

Using the wired connection I am unable to connect now, but if I remove the router I can connect. Previously I had no problem with this router in place.

I have this issue with all browsers. Also, if I open up AOL software (full version), I can then access the website without a problem with any browser.

It seems as if the combination of the cable modem and router is causing the problem as the DSL modem and router worked fine, and the Cable modem without the router works fine. I was told TCP ports 443 and 80 need to be open and according to windows they are.

Other than that I'm lost at present and I'm getting the run around from the companies.

Answer:Unable to access a single website

I'm also able to connect wirelessly when using a windows vista laptop, but I'm unable to wirelessly when connecting via a windows xp laptop.

Specifically, the website I seem to be having issues with is newegg. I've been trying to order computer parts from there, but I can't connect to the website entirely.

Most of the website loads without any lag whatsoever, just like every other website. When I attempt to login, add to wishlist or add to cart, or view my cart, however, it simply times out or resets. I'm not sure what the problem as is and would like input based on observations if anyone knows what it may be.

1.) Sometimes, not all the time, my antivirus prompts me with:

'Firewall alert! Intrusion attempt detected: NMAP TCP Scan:
Firewall has blocked this traffic.'
Direction: Inbound
Services: TCP High Ports in

It seems to be in connection with trying to connect to any link involving, while the general newegg website works with zero problems. I time out or reset when I try to add to wishlist, add to cart, login or view my cart.

- I've attempted turning off intrusion prevention, my firewall in entirety and my antivirus entirely, including all three at the same time. It still doesn't work

- I've tried doing the above, as well as restarting both Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. Neither browser seems to work.

2.) I have, however, noticed that if I quickly close Firefox or IE, whether my firewall and av are on or off, then go to the newegg website immediately upon restarting Firefox/IE. I can add one or two items to my cart/wishlist or move to the login/registry page. A minute later, h... Read more

Answer:Connectivity issues with a single website.

Go to the virus section and follo wOsiris's guide to spyware removal. There has to be something on your machine. I have been to newegg just the other day and i placed a order no problem.

Plus there is no viruses on the site. So something has to be prompting your browsers to time out on the site and also prompting your AV to go off.

I'm hoping someone here can help me with an odd problem getting into a single website.

Four days ago, my webhost moved my site to a new server. ONE person is having trouble getting to the new location from a SINGLE computer within the household. The message she is getting looks like the old location/IP is stored in the DNS cache, except she has flushed the cache (several times).

Another computer in the house and her tablet, both using the same wireless router, can get to the website. If she does a tracert on her computer, it goes to the correct server. She has checked the host file to see if there is an entry directing her browsers (she has tried with three different browsers) to the old/wrong server. There is nothing there.

So the computer WILL get to the correct IP/server using a tracert, but the browsers do not.

Any thoughts about what is going wrong? What have we overlooked?

Answer:Problem accessing a single website

Also on the browser:
delete AutoComplete data
delete Browsing History
uncheck "Preserve Favorites website data."
then delete the Temporary Internet Files and Cookies.
ipconfig /flushdns
restart system

Trying using one or all of these Chrome, Maxthon, Opera, IE, Fire Fox try all these browser do you get the same results. If just one browser causing this issue uninstall the browser in re-install it. If it's IE then, clear out the system. Ping the the site your trying to get too from that browser. Does it time out..

Use Microsoft FiX-it Reset TCP/IP or follow the examples given on the link below.

Hello, this is my first post here.
I am having trouble accessing the site: Skulduggery Pleasant UK. It is only this version of the site I have a problem with, as the US version works fine.
I tried retyping the address, but the address is correct. At first I thought that perhaps the site was down or something, but two of my friends confirmed that they could get onto the site without a problem.
I have tried to run the site in both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox and neither work.
I have gone through the routine of checking and unchecking SSL and TLS options in the Advanced Options in the Internet Options, and this has made no difference at all.
I have also tried to get onto the website via my other computer, which runs XP, as the laptop I am using right now is Vista. However, I have had no success here either.
If it helps, I am using Internet Explorer 8 to the best of my knowledge and the internet on the other computer is an older version, though I'm not sure the exact one.
As far as I know, the site isn't blocked by Firewall. I have checked and it has shown nothing that suggests this.
I have AVG and this doesn't seem to be blocking the website either. The XP computer has AVG too, as far as I know.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Background: 2 days ago I updated from my very old dated modem to the newer 2wire model from my ISP. Everything appeared to go fine and operate correctly with one exception...

As soon as I go to (using firefox) and as soon as I try to load any live stream my internet connection drops and shows network cable unplugged under the network connections tab. About 20 seconds or so later it will reconnect to the net but as soon as blogtv reloads same old problem.

If I do this on IE the page sometimes load, sometimes not but does not kill my connection.

Any ideas and/or help would be much appreciated as this kinda thing isn't my strong suit.

Ok.. i was reading up on this and I want to make sure its as easy as it says..

1 Server running Win 2003 SBS Server
1 IP Addy (we will list it as Not the real ip but for this question it is)

It is hosting a site the domain is configured through using advanced dns settings
the A record is

the MX record is

Ok so if you go to it goes to site1's website.. which is what it is supposed to do..

Well last night I registered a new company at
we will call it
I want to host the stuff myself on that same server.
I read I can just go into IIS and add it as a website.

Then I just go to godaddy and add the www/@/* as
in the A record and in the MX record and the server should be
able to figure out when people go to it goes to site1 web
and will go to site2 web even though its the same IP?

Ive never done it so before I change the dns record for site2 and knock site1 off and get yelled at.. i want to make sure it will work

Answer:Multiple Website / Single server question

Dont know the specifics with IIS im afraid (its easy with apache vhosts ) but MX records have very little todo with 'www' (used for email).

Where's the version # of my FF browser???

Anyway, I want to move the toolbar icons, and the address bar, into the top line, with 'file', 'edit', 'view', etc...

Any help?

Answer:single-line for menu, address bar...

To find out the version, go to Help, and the About Mozilla Firefox

To move the toolbars, right-click on the File, Edit Toolbar, and select customize

You should then be able to move the mouse over the toolbars, and left-click and then drag them anywhere

I use Outlook 2002 SP3 extensively. I enable the "autocomplete' feature which fills in the email address automatically after the first 3 digits. Nice feature, but sometimes if you accidentally mis-spell the name, or the person moves to a different company, you can end up with many names for one person and some of them are wrong. Outlook seems to store these "autocomplete" names in some file, and not in the Address Book that can be found under "tools". In fact, may of the names aren't in there. When you reply to a message to anyone, that email address then becomes part of this "autocomplete" listing.

It's a nice feature, but I need to be able to go in and modify the file to delete or edit incorrect email addresses, so I don't accidently send it to a bogus address when in a rush. Can someone tell me where to find this file, and how to edit it correctly.

Answer:Outlook's hidden "autocomplete" address file

To remove one address from the list so that it won't be suggested again, open a new message and begin typing in the address. Use the up and down arrow keys to select the address to be removed from the addresses suggested. When the address to be removed is highlighted, hit the Delete key.

To remove all the saved addresses, delete the .nk2 file where Outlook stores them. The file is normally located in Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder for each Outlook profile.

Some newer SOHO routers have URL logging. Otherwise your best bet would be to setup a proxy server on your network to log and block what sites are visited.

I am on Win10, using IE11 instead of Edge. One website I frequent is a forum, with many subtopics. None of these subtopics I visited ever get saved in history; and so, of course, the links never change color. This also happens when I visit the site with
Chrome. I have tried all the "solutions" for general history problems, with no success. This is unsurprising since the problem is limited to this one site. I have asked the administrator to pass along my issue to the websmaster, as I am convinced
it has something to do with the site, but I keep getting told to "check cookies" (which I have of course). Any ideas?

What could be making this website inaccessible over the entire network at our home?

Good morning ladies and gentlemen,
Over the past couple of days I have been troubleshooting a problem were a web based HTTPS secured password manager hosted internally on a RedHat server would only work from some workstations. After some investigation I identified KB3172605 as a cause for
this problem. I am by no means a programmer or web expert - but after installing this update the website started working again. There is a Microsoft support article mentions something about TLS and SHA being effected. We will have to reinstall this update
at some point again, and I was hoping I could get some guidance on how to make this website work
with the update installed.
My first thought was to maybe exchange the self-signed certificate on the web service I am trying to reach, but in my organization that is quite a process - so before I start with this maybe you could give me some pointers?

Thank you for your help!
Best Regards!

or alternate is to install CCleaner and install then when you run its cleaner option it shoudl delete history, temps, cookies and autocomplete.

Hi all, just fitted a new hard drive and I now have an annoying problem with explorer. Problem is, after I have visited web pages, they used to be storred so I could just use the drop down arrow at the end of the address bar, which would give me a list of all the web pages I have visited. I could then click on the web address and be taken straight to the page. This no longer happens because as soon as I log off when I log back on even if it's minutes later, clicking on the drop down arrow shows no web addresses. As I am a virgin media customer I am running PC Guard on my computer. does anyone know if it's explorer or PC guard that is stopping the web pages being remembered. I have Windows XP Pro, sp3 and use Firefox 3.

Sometimes there is something in the history of address bar that you can access via a "drop down list" and is very close to what you need. But when I click it, it goes right to the site that the address points to, not giving me a chance to alter it. Is there a way that I can get a URL from history into the address bar without it being activated so I can alter it or somewhere else (convenient), so I can alter it?

Answer:Is there a way to use something in the history of the address bar

Welcome to TSG.

Not sure about FF3 but it should be the same as FF2 and IE.

Open the history side bar (CTRL+H or toolbar icon, usually a clock). Once you find the link there, you can right click, then choose Copy Link Location from the pop up menu. You can then paste it into the address bar and edit it, or into your favorite text editor, etc

You can always click the link, and edit it while/after the page loads, or click stop then edit.

I've tried clearing the cache and cookies but to no avail. History adamantly refuses to acknowledge that I've visited yes, but no!

Does anyone have any suggestions why this is happening? Corrupt history folder maybe?

What you REALLY need to do is to add and save your frequently-visited sites in your browser favorites/bookmarks list.

Hi, I hope you can help me out. I have a client who was having some troubles with there computer asked if I would look at it. When I did, I found some malware.

One of the users had a bunch of porn sites in the address bar drop down. How do those get there? I am under the impression that they are items that were typed into the address bar. Is that true, or can you get those from a pop-up or any other way?

Answer:IE Address History Dropdown

Depending on the browser and the settings, those can be from directly typed URLs, links that have been clicked, or pages that have been visited by any means (popups, etc.), or a combination of those.

The short answer is that if an address appears in the dropdown, it's been visited by the user, either on purpose or inadvertently. Malware may add addresses to the list or may redirect the user against his or her will to such sites.

Although I have gone to Tools/Internet Options/Browsing History... whenever I click the down arrow on the right of the address bar, I keep on seeing visited sites under a History header (a Favourites header with some of my favourites also appears). Even if I click the X button on the right of each entry, they keep on appearing each time I click again in the down arrow and the drop down appears.I cannot ge rid of them. Any hint about how to get rid of that and why it happens?

I just recently migrated from IE7 to IE8 (Win XP) and have the following problem:

In IE7, I used to be able to see the list of the most recently/used web address from a pull-down menu next to the address bar. Now that IE8 is installed, it is gone. I click the pull-down arrow, but nothing happens and it is clear to me that it is not saving any address.

I know this is kind of the opposite of what people usually want, but for me this feature was very helpful.

Thanks for any help

Assuming you don't have any fancy software installed..

In registry go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs\ and delete everything under that key.
