Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga 900 vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga

Question: Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga 900 vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga

Hey guys, I'm a PreMed student who's life revolves around his laptop. I'm always on social media, watching some show, listening to music, doing an essay, taking notes, updating some website, or emailing some person on campus. Of course, my old laptop broke. It was a Dell Inspiron. Now, I have a campus job and have been saving money(so money is not factor necessarily). After researching my options, I've narrowed my choices down to the three previously listed laptops. I just want to know which do you guys suggest and why?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga 900 vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga

By looking at your requirement, you prefer on-the-go PC that lets you do all that on a decent budget, SP4 is better than SB(if you want lightweight device and decent battery life), Lenovo's are pretty good too. X1 w/o OLED seems to be a better buy in terms of ultraportability and battery life. You could wait for others to chime in.

I'm in the market for a small (10-11" screen), light, Windows 2-in-1 to use a secondary PC. I want to have it in my bag all day to use for light computing tasks (MS office, reading + annotating pdfs, inking in OneNote, email and internet) when away from my main PC. Situations where it will get most use include commuting and travelling, and at meetings.
I'm considering both the Surface 3 and the Yoga Book.
What I think I favour about the Surface 3
- 3:2 display
- Inclusion of full size USB port
What I think I favour about the Yoga book
- Lighter than Surface 3 + Keyboard combo.
- Might be better for use on lap (stability) and whilst standing (lightness) ????
I'm not really put off by the virtual keyboard on the Yoga Book because for light computing I'm happy enough typing on an iPad on-screen keyboard.
Some things I'm uncertain about
- Is Surface 3 stable enough and with a small enough footprint (when the kickstand is out) for use on your lap?
- On the Yoga book, can an adopter be used to charge and use a usb peripheral at the same time?
- Do we have an idea yet of comparative battery life of the two devices (beyond manufacturer claims)?
- Is there another device in this 10-11" class that I should be considering?
I'd really appreciate any thoughts anyone has and answers to the questions I'm uncertain about. It would really help me make my choice.

Good morning. I have some questions about Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga and Yoga pro 2. Actually I want to buy one of them, but still confuse. I have read from the forum that in Yoga 2 Pro have some problems in wireless. Did the Lenovo solved this problem or still it is the same? My second question about ThinkPad yoga 12.5. is it possible to use Lenovo motion technology at this Ultrabook? Or this technology only available in ideapad-s ?

Hey, I am starting my first year in the University next year, and I need a laptop.
Most of my time I am watching Netflix and surfing the web, so I am searching for a hybrid laptop, 2 in 1.
I checked laptops for a while and found 2 that are in my budjet and they are looking good:
Microsoft Surface Pro 4 128 GB Intel i5
Lenovo Yoga 500 500 GB Intel i7
I dont know what to choose, I prefer the surface (because of the pen) but lenovo is cheaper.
Other recomendations are welcome as well.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the help!

Answer:Microsoft Surface pen on Lenovo Yoga 500

Neither the "Surface Pen" for Surface 3, Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book nor the old "Pro Pen" for Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 are compatible with the Yoga 500 as it lacks a suitable digitizer.I recommend getting the ThinkPad Yoga 460 as it supports pens based on the Wacom Active ES technology.

I have been considering purchasing a Windows RT device as a replacement for my aging windows 7 laptop. I am especially interested in an RT device because of their portability, simplistic nature, and above all, price. A windows RT device is also optimal for me because I only do a number of things on my laptop, such as browsing, Microsoft Office work, and using a number of light desktop applications that could be easily replaced with applications from the windows 8 store. Therefore, I don't think it makes much sense for me to bother purchasing a high power laptop running the full version of Windows 8. I should also mention that I am a student. I have narrowed hunt down to two Windows RT devices: The Microsoft Surface, and the Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 11.
I like the Surface because of its beautiful industrial design, decent display, touch covers, and all the extra touches that Microsoft put into the device to make it special and unique. However, my greatest concern is typing on the touch cover; specifically, I worry that typing on my lap will be a painful process. 95% of my work on my Laptop is done with it in my lap while sitting on the couch, rather then having it rested on a table. Therefore, if the device does not sit well in my lap, it is significantly less valuable to me.
Before you mention the Ideapad Yoga's price, you should know that I have family connections to Lenovo, which allows me to get the Yoga for the same price as the Microsoft Surface. I especially like the Yoga be... Read more

Answer:Surface RT vs. Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 11

I would tell you, like all people to jump ship and abandon RT. Why would you want a limited OS when you can get a tablet running an atom for the same price? The Surface is a beautifully built machine and I really like the yoga's hardware design, but 799$ for a windows RT computer is laughable. I bought the HP envy x2 and love it. If you want a premium device with a decent keyboard, nice all-aluminum design and full windows 8, I recommend the HP envy x2. Also the Acer Iconia w510 is a great tablet for 599$ you get 64Gb running windows 8 and ASUS has the vivotab smart for 499$ with 64 Gb and an atom and I think they have the weird keyboard/cover thing that the surface has as well. If you REALLY wanted a surface I would say its not a bad choice but the yoga is. But I'll say it again, why limit yourself with RT when you can buy windows 8. Samsung and Acer are already not doing RT anymore because they said consumers don't see the value in it and its because there is no value in it, not when an atom tablet costs the same amount. That's my 2 cents but I have some programs like putty, matlab, office 2013 academic,
visual studio pro running on my tablet. The thing I will tell and think hard about this, are you sure there aren't ANY x86 programs you might want like turbotax, office pro, firefox, google chrome, vlc, utorrent just to name a few?

I will be buying some type of new 2-in-1 device (as Microsoft calls hybrids / convertibles), but am really stressing over which one to get because they all are pretty cool in their own way. First, I must say that this is a good dilemma to have (i.e. having a lot of awesome, innovative hardware choices this season--something Android and Apple consumers don't have) and really goes to show that Microsoft's Surface was indeed successful if only to prod OEMs to step up their game. Second, despite all the great 2-in-1s from other companies such as Dell's XPS, Asus's Transformer and Taichi, Lenovo's Thinkpad Yoga, Samsung's ATIV tabs, Sony's Vaio Duo and Flip, etc, I think I've narrowed it down the the following 3 devices:Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 ProMicrosoft Surface Pro 2Sony Vaio Tap 11

Answer:[Lenovo] Yoga 2 Pro vs. [Sony] Tap 11 vs. [Microsoft] Surface Pro 2

If you want it to be your everything, I think you should go with the Surface Pro 2. It has the best combination of everything. It's big enough to get some actual work done in a pinch, and comes with a docking station that the Vaio Tap and the Yoga 2 Pro can't take advantage of. On the other hand, it's smaller (denser) than both, meaning it should be more portable. Battery life should fall in the middle of the two, or even with the Yoga 2 Pro, and with the optional power pack you should get significantly more.
I think the Yoga 2 is the best for multitasking, but if you want to get real work done, the Surface Pro 2 certainly gives you a lot with the Dock accessory. You can effectively upgrade to that 24" or 27" display that you may have to get real work done. If you want a "your everything" device, then the Surface Pro 2 hits the bill, imo.
It all depends really on whether you consider a 10.6" screen usable. If it's definitely too small, then get the Yoga 2 Pro. If you already love your Surface RT though, I think you'd be ok with the Pro 2.
Edit: Dell Venue Pro should work similar to the Surface. It has a few additional options that business users might find attractive like a removable battery, and of course the lower $499 price point using Intel's Atom. On the other hand you sacrifice the design, as I'm personally a fan of the design of Microsoft surface over the Venue Pro. But with the wonderful price point, and if the keyboard cover is reasonably priced, it could be a good ... Read more

Hi, I just got a Surface Pro 3 stylus from a friend, to use with my Lenovo Yoga 2. The stylus is designed for capacitive screen. So I assume it should works with the Lenovo Yoga 2 (At least I hope).I paired it both of them together (see screenshot). But I have to admit during the pairing, the bar stopped at like 10 % and then it said Paired (my other bluetooth devices goes up to 100% before it pairs). But it does not seems to works.I can't use the pen at all. My friend admitted it was not the orriginal pen as he lost it, but it still worked perfectly like the original. It is called Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 N-trig  Stylus Capacitive electromagnetic pen, he said. My bluetooth driver are updated to the latest available for the lenovo yoga pro. I really wish to be able to use this pen to draw. Thank you very much for all help you may provide.

Hi everybody, ever since a friend showed me the Lenovo Yoga Book online I've been in love with the device. I'm a big note taker and writer, and I think this could be perfect for me. However, I live abroad in a country where they don't sell the Lenovo Yoga Book. I'm soon going for a short visit to the Netherlands where I can finally see (and most likely buy) it, but I have a couple of questions that I can't seem to figure out from searching online (and I will not have enough time in the Netherlands to keep going to the shop ).  I am interested in buying the Android version. First of all, because I am buying it as a tablet and not a laptop; second because of the 100 euros price difference (yes, welcome to Europe...) and third because of the ability to take notes in tablet mode with the screen off. However, I struggle to find out how to digitalize handwriting notes and I read contradicting statements on this.  From handwriting to textAs I understood, you can't digitalize (meaning change handwriting into text) with the app that Lenovo installed (Note Saver). Is that correct? If that is the case, I am looking for a programme that can do this. Does it exist for Android? I've been looking into OneNote. Is it possible to write using OneNote and then convert the handwriting to text? Or do you know of any other apps? Evernote for example? Furthermore, when using those apps (especially OneNote), can you convert it do a .doc document?  Taking notesAnoth... Read more

I don't really want to talk about what happened, but my Lenovo Yoga 11RT is at the bottom of Lake Michigan - That is all you need to know.
So, I am looking to replace it with either a Lenovo Ideapad Lynx or a Surface RT.
The Lynx is 11.6" - 64gb - Windows 8
Surface is 10" - 32gb - Windows RT
Both can be bought for 349.00
I like that the Surface has the "click on" keyboards, a full size USB port, and the general build quality.
I like the larger screen of the Lynx, and that is has full Windows 8. - Also seems to be a little snappier.
Hellllp me choose.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Lynx Vs. Microsoft Surface RT. (My yoga went swimming)

What do you use your tablet for? Is there anything that you do that would benefit from having Windows 8 as opposed to RT? Price wise it's a close call. More space on the Lenovo, but usb and sd on the Surface. Guess you can't go wrong either way.

I've been having a couple issues with my pen in Adobe Animate CC and several other apps. Basically I was getting a common issue where when I go to draw something the cursor is delayed and after a short moment it jumps back to the pen leaving a straight line behind it. The fix for this would usually be to disable flicks and the press and hold feature. On my Yoga book however when I would do that the pen would only leave a dot on the screen when I went to draw, and I wouldnt be able to move it from that spot until i went back into the halo keyboard and moved/clicked the mouse. I almost forgot to mention that I've installed MULTIPLE different versions of the wacom feel drivers however none of them fix it. Actually the newest wacom feel drivers make it so I cant use my pen AT ALL and it just gets stuck in the top left corner of my screen. So what I've done is installed some older drivers but all that did was fix my pressure sensitivity issue. Now the issue I'm having is when I go to draw something it just drags the canvas. I've tried many different things, nothing works. If no one knows how to fix this I was thinking of buying wacoms "Bamboo Ink Smart Stylus". Could that possibly fix it? The apps I've tried on the yoga book that work are Sketchbook pro and Clip Studio Paint. The ones that don't work are Adobe Animate CC, Macromedia flash 8, and the free flash alternative vectorian giotto.

Answer:Connecting Lenovo yoga book(Android) to windows pc

Hi
This is not a common use of Android tablets. Lenovo does not have anything official about this subject.

I had never tried it but there is a project to use Android tablet as a graphic tablet, of course it is not related to Lenovo at all.
Check it out here : http://rfc2822.github.io/GfxTablet/

It will be interesting if you can report back if it worked for you.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hey, I just got my Lenovo Yoga Book with Windows 10 today, brand new. When I first booted the machine up there was no new user startup, it automatically logged me in to the "Administrator" account. The desktop has some generic wallpaper with bright red Chinese text one it, with programs on the desktop like WoaProc.exe, rework.cmd, Server_RunInPad.exe, shutdown.cmd, and TelephonyTool_Eng_V1.1.exe. There is also another user account, "WWTE." Upon researching this myself it seems that I have a test unit that Lenovo forgot to wipe. Is it okay for me to continue using? Should I just use it as is? Do I wipe the unit and reinstall Windows (btw, the unit itself has no recovery drive). Should I return it for a new unit? This is the first time something like this has happened to me, so any help would be appreciated.  Thanks, Jon

I recieved my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e a couple of days ago and it came with a lot of bloatware, or at least what I thought was. I started uninstalling a lot and everything seemed to work fine. I restarted it, but when it came back, I noticed the touch screen would not work. I went into the Device Manager and realized that one of my I2C drivers had the triangle with the exclamation was on one of them. After trial and error, I realized that disabling and re-enabling the driver would allow my touch screen to work. After a restart, however, I was back to square one. My wife bought her the same Lenovo Yoga and I have been compairing the two. I just noticed that I am missing the I2C controllers in the System Devices in the Device Manager as well. I have tried booting from an installation from hers and even copying the drivers and System32 folder to no avail. If anybody has any solutions, please help. I have tried everything I knew and everything I could find. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome,

What happens when you install the i2c driver for your machine?  Before doing so please verify the machine type (20D9, 20DA) as there's another machine type option available.  Downloads found by using SUPPORT above and entering Yoga 11e.

Hi I just got my thinkpad yoga 14 yesterday and I was able to use it for about an hour or so then I shut it down.  I tried putting it on later but it refuses to come on. If I connect the AC adapter, the red thinkpad light would blink four times and if I press the power button, the red light and the keyboard lights comes on and good of almost immediately.  I've just got this for a few hours and this problem is really frustrating. Is there a quick fix without returning.  I bought the laptop from Lenovo US and I'm in Nigeria, I feel returning it would take time which I don't have. I need the laptop for work.  I've tried the reset hole, I've also tried removing the battery and pressing the power button multiple times.

Can you please share the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14?

Is this problem, that you can turn on the machine, comming from time to time? Is the machine operable, but sometimes when you shut it down does not turn on? Or is it complete not working right now?

If it boot and works for time to time, I will check any BIOS firmware update for the computer just in case. I would also check that if it is getting if it is getting hot more than usual.

If it complete useless right not and if you have changed the battery, pressed the reset hole button and it still does not turn on, it seems that you need to send it to the repair center to me.  For what I can see there is a Nigeria phone on the "Contact Us" page on the support site. Call them to see what options do they give you.

Hi,

When I connect Thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD00B1US) to the onelink dock, the stylus stops working.

In order to enable the stylus and Wacom driver following 2 options/ workarounds:
1)  Manually stop and restart the Wacom ISD Service
2) or reboot the machine while the Onelink dock is attached.

I'm using the latest 7.2.0-4 Wacom driver version, all latest lenovo software installed installed on the machine.

Both above mentioned workarounds are ugly, does anybody have a better suggestion to fix this issue?

Answer:ThinkPad Yoga Stylus stops working after connecting Yoga to Onelink dock

Had the same issue - a BIOS update just release about a week ago fixed it for me.

The lenovo thinkpad s1 graphics drivers are so old... its so annoying. i am using intel latest may release for intel hd graphics 4400 and it has better performance and quality even though it uses 1gb ram than the lenovo 2014 july update which has 2gb!! lenovo.... somebody pls incorporate the new drivers into the old one.... could that be so hard?? u guys need to carry your customers along.....why edit the graphic cards when u dont plan to ugrade the drivers.. 4400 is still one of intels high graphics cards and they are updating...lenovo are just interested in making people buy laptops and not upgrading them...that super laaaaaaame!!!!!!!!

Answer:PLEASE LENOVO PLS PLS PLS!!! UPDATE YOUR GRAPHICS DRIVERS FOR LENOVO THINKPAD S1 YOGA

I don't see why you want to update your graphics drivers. If it works, it works. If there aren't any bugs there is nothing to worry about. And as far as gaming performance goes, it is still going to be slow and barely going to make a difference. If the generic drivers from Intel, Nvidia or AMD work use those. But make sure that brightness keys etc work correctly.

Purchased a brand new ThinkPad Yoga 14 Ultrabook, I have it one week.  I called Lenovo for support on the pen and touch screen driver and they want $70 before they will help.  Reps said that this issues has been resollved but that  I need to pay ANOTHER $70, on a machine that just came out of the box, if I want to know what it is. Disappointed to say the least!  If there's a Lenovo rep that wants to make this better, I'd appreciate it.

So, my husband bought me a Lenovo Yoga Book last year for Christmas. I like it. I think it's cool to be able to draw on the paper (which is what I do traditionally) and have it show up digitized on the screen. I was able to do a couple of cool projects sketches on it, but I haven't used it to it's full potential I believe, so I put it down for a while. Then, I started to research different drawing apps, seeing all the amazing artwork that people were creating in these different apps and stuff, and it got me excited about going back to drawing on my Yoga Book. So, I went to try to draw in ArtRage, and when I would try to draw on the Wacom tablet with my pen, nothing would show up. However, when I would draw on the screen with my finger, everything showed just fine. I tried to update it several times, I tried starting it over, I tried using a different drawing app; NOTHING. The only time the pen would work on the Wacom Tablet is in Notesaver. Even if I had ArtRage open, anything that I try to write on the tablet will only come up in Notesaver. I wasn't trying to just factory reset it right off so I called technical support to see if there was anything that they would be able to do to fix it without me having to factory reset it.So, I called tech support and they told me that I would have to pay a fee of $40 to be escalated to their software support. So I paid the $40, and within 3 MINUTES  of speaking to me, the tech tells me to just factory reset it. I was LIVID. Like, th... Read more

I?m currently experiencing issues with inconsistent digitizer pen pressure/sensitivity.When painting within CS6, the strokes will suddenly and randomly grow thick and bold, despite brush settings for opposite results, and without a change in the pressure I apply to the screen. I am running CS6 on a Lenovo ThinkPad S1 Yoga, with a Windows 10 64-bit OS.Is this an issue with my Lenovo, Photoshop, Windows 10, the pen, or something else? What steps can I take to resolve this matter once and for all?

Answer:pen pressure w/ lenovo thinkpad s1 yoga

Hi

Maybe you can try updating some of the driver related to the Pen.

There is the Wintab Driver for Windows 10. Check if you need to update it.
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds041384

Other thing that also may help is doing some "trial and error" with other pen related software, link using Inkscape and configuring it with the pen just to try it out.

I was in a meeting and stopped using my laptop for around 10/20 minutes or so. When I went back to my laptop to type, the Fn key was stuck; pressing space toggled the backlit keys. I tried pressing Esc to turn on/off the FnLk, but the problem was still there regardless of whether FnLk was on or not. Then I restarted. However, the Fn key does not work at all now. Pressing Fn in combination with F1-12, space, or esc does not do any of the functions it should do. Pressing F1-12 without the Fn key doesn't do any of the special functions either. When I changed the settings so that the functions were the default on the F1-12 keys, they worked, but I like having the default of F1-F12 stay as they were instead. I went onto the BIOS and switched the Fn key with the Ctrl key. Ctrl+ the other keys worked for the functions including the backlit keys, but I also am used to the default key positions. Actually, my Fn key started to spontaneously work just now. But it's stuck. Is the problem in my keyboard?

My laptop doesn't turn on anymore. Here is what I have to do to turn it on (I tried many sequence of steps, but this is the only one that works every time):-Disconnect battery and CMOS battery-Press power button ten times, then press and hold for 30 seconds-Connect power adaptor and press power button At this point, my laptop turns on, but I have to reset my time and date in BIOS (of course this is normal since I disconnected the CMOS batter). Once I turn my laptop on, my batter shows that it is charging and it is at 100%. I dual boot and both Ubuntu and Windows 8.1 show the batter charging at 100%.As soon as I unplug my AC adaptor, the laptop turns off again and I have to repeat the sequence above again to turn it on. This happens consistently. However, if I shutdown my laptop the right way without unplugging the AC adaptor at any point, it turns back on normally. This happens of both my Linux and Windows OS. What I've tried:-Uninstalling battery drivers and restarting my laptop-Updating to the latest power management drives from this Lenovo websiteI also read that some HP laptops have software issues that doesn't allow the laptop to switch from AC adaptor mode to battery mode. I believe this might be the issue I'm seeing, but I couldn't find a way to check this setting. I don't think this last detail is related, but when I shutdown Windows, I see a message saying:Closing 1 app and restartingAsusSGPLusBTServerThis app is preventing you f rom restartingAlo... Hi.  Since yesterday, my Fn key has stopped working.  I have tried plugging in an external keyboard and it stil does not work.  I tried switchng the Ctrl key and the Fn key in the Bios utility and this allows me to use the Fn features with the Ctrl key, but then I lose the Ctrl key function. So the key itself is not working, but the fact that the Fn key does not work on an external keyboard leads me to believe it's not a hardware issue. Any ideas?

Seems like Lenovo, for some probably sincerely hillarious reasons, has decided to put out the P40 to European markets only in FHD, WITHOUT the option to upgrade to wqhd.  This decision, to me, seems to render the whole equipment useless and leaves me wonder to whom are they making their laptops for? My first guess would have been customers.. but the more I think about it the less I believe it to be so.  If there's someone from Lenovo listening, here's something to consider: Putting out P40 in US only in WQHD and not even giving that as an option to European markets is just simply silly. Also, as you produce another viable option for anyone who's looking for an alternative for Surface Book, which is the Yoga 460, I'll give you a tip on that too: you probably shouldn't max it's ram to 8gb but let it go w-i-l-d on the full 16.  You almost had it right. Close. But no. Not this time.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad P40 Yoga only FHD in Europe?

Yes that is also one of the decisions I just do NOT understand! Just for completion if Lenovo decides to read it: Thinkpad is mostly business users - I get that. But the TP line is also advertised as "high end", especially the X1C. So why on earth does the whole TP line come with Intel 520 graphics ONLY (in Europe !?). At least for T and X series there should have been either an Intel CPU with IRIS or dedicated graphics aimed to provide high erformance for those who want it and are willing to pay for it.

Hello everyone, I hope I'll be able to find some help here. I'm looking for the M.2 details in both TPY 15 and TPY 460. Especially: 1. Is the M.2 NVMe supported in TPY 15?2. Can I use Samsung 950 Pro M.2 in TPY 460? I'm also trying to make a final decision between 15 and 460 so I made a list of pros and cons:(+) Yoga 15 pros:- 15,6" screen- possibility to use both 2.5" SSD and M.2 SSD. I'm planning to use Samsung 850 EVO 500GB (data) + Samsung 950 Pro M.2 256GB (system) combo. Does it makes sense? Is it possible? I've seen on the Yoga documentation that Lenovo doesn't recommend using M.2 as the booting drive.- max 16GB of RAM- design, build quality etc..(-) Yoga 15 cons:- Not Skylake- No UHD screen- No DDR4- No pen(+) Yoga 460 pros:- Skylake!- WQHD (2560 x 1440) screen- active pen bay(-) Yoga 460 cons:- I'm not sure if both M.2 SSD and 2,5" SSD can be used. Can it? Is it possible to use Samsung 850 EVO 500GB (data) + Samsung 950 Pro M.2 256GB (system) combo?- only 14"- probably higher price- max 8GB RAM. Apparently many customers are confused about the differences between the three TPY 14 models: 20DM009GUS,  20DM000VUS, 20DM008UUS. Digitizer support? Backlit keyboard? IPS display? Physical buttons above the trackpad? Often the Lenoco CS and the customer reviews give contradictory answers. On lenovo website, there are 25 questions asked about this computer but 0 answers posted. Why don't Lenovo tech people answer some of the questions? This situation has wasted a huge amount of customer's time and has probably even deterred many customers from buying this computer and caused many unnecessary returns. It's just a mess. Maybe either Lenovo or Bestbuy should make a comparison table and highlight the differences between the different models.

Ok so i just recieved a thinkpad yoga S1. The one i got was the one without the digitizer pen automatically installed into the computer's side. The pen came separately and its the exact same one as the one used with the version that comes with the pen. I dont know the product code or even what its called. Which driver do i install and how can i register the product? Also, since the version i have has like a little black piece where the digitizer normally goes is there any way i can take it out and be able to accomodate the pen that came seperatly?

I think there is only two options it either comes with the pen or it doesn't. The one that doesn't have the pen built into it doesn't support the pen because of the panel used. That is waht I remember when I was researching into this unit.

Hey Guys I'm rather confused about the pen support for the new Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15. I've read quite a bit about it and find the information quite inconsistent. Some say it does support active pen some say it will in april and some say it doesn't. What I would like to know:A.) What kind of pen technology does the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15 support atm?B.) Are there any changes in sight? / When? / What changes?C.) Can I write on it while resting my hand on the screen aka has it palm rejection?D.) How good is it for note taking? Can it keep up with my writing speed? Links to videos where I can actually see it being used / tested would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 15 Active Pen

From what I know there isn't too much information out so far. But here's what I found out. First off, the current Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 don't support pen digitizers at all, and will not in the future.Secondly, the Toshiba Encore 2 Write apparently uses the same technology. See this thread. Here's what I know:- It's called Wacom "Active ES" as in Active Electro Static.- It's battery powered. Unlike Wacom's older technology, you need a battery in the pen.- Palm rejection is more of a driver thing and not the technology. So it works, basically.- People say it feels "different", not sure if that means better or worse.- Precision is apparently very good, perhaps even better than the older tech without battery.- Pen lag (speed) doesn't seem to be an issue. Might even be better than the older technology. Other than that I personally couldn't find any information about whatever will be built into the Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 Only that they call it "Active Pen" and that it will be out in April. Also that the displays will support something called "anypen" which basically means you can use any pen-shaped metal object to write on the display. But that isn't really of any interest to me because I want pressure sensitivity.

I haven't seen any topics that seem to quite replicate the specific problem I have, so here I am.Without warning, the screen of my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e tablet-notebook will turn black. It appears to be an "active" black rather than the screen turning wholly off. The rest of the computer is working normally during these times: audio carries on, keyboard and mouse input function, and nothing else seems to shut down or turn off. Keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen input causes the screen to return to normal briefly, but the only way to make it stop happening for sure is to restart the computer. I don't think it's connected to sleep functions, given that it happens while I'm actively using the computer.I don't know exactly why this happens, but it usually happens after long periods of use. At least once it has happened within an hour or so of being turned on for the first time that day, but I had a great deal of Chrome tabs open and that may have been similarly taxing. While this problem is not exactly disastrous, it is pretty annoying and well outside the acceptable boundaries of computer behavior, especially for a device I have had for only a few months. I would greatly appreciate help in rectifying this problem.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e Screen Blacks Out

I am also having this issue as well. I first noticed it maybe a week ago, but in the past couple of days it's gotten worse and has happened multiple times while I was in the middle of something. What does your Event Viwer show as the problem? Mine always says there's a system error with DistributedCOM as the source. I'm not sure how to fix this or even exactly what it means though.  In possibly a related issue, in the past couple of days I've had multiple instances of my screen flickering at random times while working. The only way I've found to fix that is to use the power button to put the laptop into sleep mode. Once it goes into sleep mode I've been able to press the power button to get the lock screen to appear and resume work. Have you or anyone else had this problem as well?  I've changed the sleep settings as much as I can but that doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. It'll even go to sleep while I'm in the middle of something with the power cord plugged in.

So I was using my Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop for a study session. My keyboard was working fine the last time I used it, which was like ten minutes before it stopped working. Nothing on my keyboard is working, including the F controls/shortcuts. The ThinkPad is working normally and so is its corresponding right/left keys. The screen is also fine and the touch screen keyboard is working as well. My laptop isn't in tablet mode or any other mode other than laptop mode.  So basically, has anyone else had this problem and possibly share their wisdom. Also, if there are basic shortcuts that simply turn off your keyboard and can turnit back on, it'd be quite helpful, because there could be a simple fix but I wouldn't be aware since I am not very tech savvy.  Thank you so much!

Hi guys, I have no idea what's happening with my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 (it's about 3.5 years old, its warranty just expired). Every time I reboot, I get this weird message saying "Configuration changed, please reboot the machine...". I then proceed to reboot the machine and everything works but the bios options are always resetted! This makes the laptop extremely unusable for me as I always swap the fn/ctrl keys so that I don't have to learn a new keyboard every time I switch computers. If I go back and change the option, it works fine, but the next reboot it does the same message again and I have to reconfigure the bios at EVERY boot. I'm lucky this option is the only one I changed, otherwise someone that would have changed the boot order/graphics settings/passwords etc. would be in a much worst situation than me...At first this seemed like a typical bios battery being out of juice so that the config can't stay saved, but I've now changed the bios battery twice with new ones and this doesn't change anything... It's been working perfectly for 3 years but now it just suddenly stopped working for that reason (by not working I mean the bios that keeps resetting itself, I can still boot to my main OS just fine after). If anybody has any suggestion that would be greatly appreciated. Hi all, I had my screen replaced under warranty a few months ago due to the retention problem, after I got it back I noticed the webcam wasn't working I didn't put much thought into it and thought i had to update drivers since it had been replaced. Now I have come to get to the bottom of the problem and realised its looking like a hardware problem as windows reports the camera is not connected in device manager and no tricks seem to get it working. Looking at other posts it seems that it may be an issue withe folding design of the yoga putting stress on the connecting cables. Either that or it was not re-connected properly during the warranty repair which seems to make more sense..... Unfortunately my warranty has now expired (a couple of months) so it leaves me in a terrible predicament, does anyone have any ideas or anyone from Lenovo able to help me?  Thanks Steve

I have ben dealing with problems with this touch screen since I got the laptop.  It has been continuously ghosting, while it got better after the June update, it still ghosts without touches, until you start using the touch screen.  When using the touch screen it starts drawing gray lines in between the point im touching and the point its ghosting to (the lines arent always direct). I recently wiped my the drive, reimaged to a backup from april and tried reupdating it.  When I got to the touch screen drivers, I got through the initial setup and told it to open the update when finished but the machine froze.  Now when I try to reinstall, I get to the finish page on the update tools install, have it open the updater, but the program immediately closes.Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi

Welcome to the forums.

I don't know much about this subject, I found this one reference on the Microsoft Quesitons Community. I'm not sure if it is a machine or Windows limitation.

Hi I own a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 12 i5 180GB laptop/2-in-1. Sometimes, the CPU fan will just turn off completely, especially when the CPU is under heavy load. I am a content creator, and I use this computer for the bulk of my encoding jobs. Sometimes, when I am rendering or encoding, or even just scripting. Also, the battery is only charging to 41480 mWh instead of the designed 47060. What is happening? i have owned this for 1.5 years.

Will my Thinkpad X-1 Yoga allow me to  use a headset that incorporates a USB port?  Best Buy had no single plug, 4-pole headsets, but sold me a Logitech h390 USB headset saying that it should work.  Waiting to open package until I can verify that this laptop allow the USB connection.  Can anyone provide the answer?   [Am frustrated........my 'older' desktop has dual plugs for a headset]

Hi Everyone, A few days after I received my TPY 15 with Windows 10, it began to register random ghost touches which close and open windows, pause videos and such.  It typically happens when I power up the computer (startup, coming back from sleep/hibernation), I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem and if there's a solution.

Hi Can you please post the complete model number of your TP Yoga 15? I don't have that one, but will it be something similar to this thread? Do you actually see on Windows the "animation" of the touch screen being used?...that circle animation that Windows shows when you touch the screen ? Regards

Good day and welcome to the community.I can't comment on the USB headset question, but if you've got an older, dual-plug headset that you'd like to use, then you might explore getting a combo-jack splitter as described in this KB article: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Displays-Options-and-Accessories/Microphone-Headset-Jack-splitter-neede...

Hope this helps a bit.Regards.

Hi Guys I am using my new Thinkpad Yoga and I am happy so far.Unfortunately I lost my pen/stylus a few days ago and of course, the tablet/ultrabook is useless or just a normal notebook without a stylus. However, I failed to find a spare-stylus which fits in the case. Could you direct me to a webshop or something were I can buy one? And, as it is related to this topic, do you know any other stylus which work with this tablet? The original one is fine but to work all day long with the normal stylus it is a bit to small / thin. Best regards Schneeele

Those all should work.

The other day I was closing my ThinkPad Yoga, and I noticed a bad-sounding crunch. I tried opening and closing it again, but there didn't seem to be a problem. But I noticed today that something definitely has happened. Now, my hinges are out of alignment with one another. The right hinge looks OK, but the left hinge looks kinked forward. This causes the screen to be lopsided when in laptop mode, but it it also noticeable when the laptop and screen is flattened out. See in the the following image how the right hinge is flat, but the left hinge is kinked up?  Is there anything that can be done about this?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad S3 Yoga 14 hinges are out of align...

Ouch.... that's gotta hurt  I just grabbed my TP Yoga 14 to see if there is a way, without forcing it, to turn it into that position and it is not possible. Maybe it is time to send you machine to the local Lenovo Service Center and ask if the warranty will take over that. Regards

Recently I noticed that my screen will no longer autorotate when I put it into tent or tablet mode. I checked the Windows Action Center and there is no button to lock orientation and when I press Windows Button + O it does not allow me to turn Autorotate on or off. I think the most recent upgrade of Windows 10 really messed things up. Does anyone have advice on how I should proceed? I have tried: 1. Installing new video drivers2. Updating all Lenovo drivers3. Installing Intel Sensor Drivers Thanks!Gordon

While working in a server enviroment (Windows Server 2008), the screen 'size' changes without reason, causing some of the functions of an application to not be accessible. For example, while using Microsoft word, if this occurs, the X to close the application will be completely off the screen. The resolution on the machine is currently set to 1280x768, as a preference to the user. This does not always occur right away, sometimes it happens within minutes of use, other times it may take hours. What could be the cause of this?

Hi All, i just purchased a brand new Thinkpad Yoga X1 and out of the box the touchscreen isn't recognized by windows and neither input via fingers nor via pen works. I would greatly appreciate it, if anyone could tell me if it's just some wrong settings or if the laptop is faulty. Thank you in advance,Torben

I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 260 with Windows 10 Pro 64 bits. I instaled Intel Wireless Display Software to see the desktop on a TV. The software works with the Samsung TV I have where I work, but it does work with the Samsung TV I have at home. The Samsung TV model I have is the UE55F6400. When I tried to connect, the connection works for a while, but after a time I receive the message "Video Data not compatible" ("Datos de Vídeo no compatibles" in Spanish). Of course I instaled the newest drivers for the notebook and the last firmware of the TV. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My laptop's screen is shattered and is no  longer protected under warranty. I have been having a very hard time locating the correct replacement part for the model which is a ThinkPad Yoga 12. I was hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction, as replacing a screen is far cheaper than buying a new laptop. cheers!
