I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a toshiba Satellite L855-10P and my webcam was working fine until today when, during a skype video conference, it started showing black lines a bit like static and the quality decreased significantly. I used the webcam application to check if it wasn't an internet issue and the same problem occurred.

I restarted the computer and removed the protective plastic from the webcam and nothing changed. It's a brand new laptop, it's only 2 months old. Is there anything I can do to find out the nature of this problem or should I just go ahead and use the warranty?

**Edit: I changed the quality to 1280*700 and the image had great quality but when I changed it to anything lower than that quality the static came back.

Hey There Guys. Last Time I have some problem. One day I was going downstairs. There was a water and I was holding my laptop. But I slipped down and my laptop fell down from the stairs. I was really worried. So I hurry carried him up. Powered on and BAM. It didn't load Windows 8.1 but it Showed something like: "No Bootable Device Found. Please Restart". First I though It was HardDisk Problem.. So I brough HDD to my Uncle. He tested HDD on other Computer a He said that HDD is OK. So I tried to Remove and Insert HDD Back but Still any Change.. . I think my Uncle is Right... I even tried to Make Bootable UEFI Windows 8.1 Setup USB Disk. Setup Loaded Successfully. But It was Stucking at "Setup Is Starting" about 4 Hours. So I powered him Down.. Then I tried Setup Again. I googled some help with DISKPART. But there is even Problem that when i open Setup CMD (SHIFT+F10) and Type /diskpart it just shows something Like:
Microsoft DiskPart version 6.3.9600
Copyright (C) 1999-2013 Microsoft Corpation.
On Computer: MINWINPC
It doesn't show up DISKPART> over 3 Hours.. (It HAS to.)

So I don't know what to do. .

Please Guys Help me. I'm just 14 Year Old Boy.

My Laptop is Toshiba Satellite L855-14C

Answer:Problem with My Toshiba Satellite L855-14C

I think the HDD may have bad sectors, possibly in the boot sector area.

Connect the HDD to another PC, run this utility to check the SMART status and check the number of bad sectors/blocks.

Hello everyone,

My question is about the Recovery Media Creator procces.
I was about to create the recovery and I noticed there are several options (DVD 4.7 Go, DVD 8.5 GB and USB Flash).

My Toshiba Satellite L855-12X is with a Blu-ray Disc Drive burner and would like to use a BD-RE I bought for backups.

Does anyone have a solution to use this media ?

Answer:Satellite L855-12X: How to use BD-RE with TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator

I have the same optical disc drive in my Satellite but no option to use empty BD for recovery media creation. I presume preinstalled Toshiba software cannot handle with it.
Best thing you can do is to create USB recovery media.

To be honest I?ve created two back-ups (DVDs and USB). I can always use one of them if necessary.

Hi guys,

Recently I have been having a problem occurring more often. For some reason at times when I load heavy joomla webpages/Youtube Pages, my computer will freeze (Everything) and then about 5-10 seconds later will beep ( The beep comes from the speakers ) and then unfreeze and everything is fine.

It isn't a serious problem but I'm curious as to what could be causing it. I have Googled the problem but all I have found is people with the problem but the beep originating from inside the computer and not through the speakers.

Here are the specs of my system

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz

Memory: 6144MB DDR2 Patriot RAM (Consisting of 2 x 1GB Modules and 2 x 2GB Modules - The last time the RAM was upgraded was December 2008 when the 2, 2GB modules were added). I also have a RAM Cooler for the RAM.

Hard Drive: 2x 500 GB SATA2 Hard Drives

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285

Sound Card: Creative Fatal1ty X-Fi Titanium Sound Card

Operation System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Service Pack 1

Motherboard: ASUS P5Q SE2

Any ideas?

Thanks for your answers

Answer:Windows freezes and then beeps & unfreezes at the same time?

Beeps - usually indicate that the Ram has stalled - used to the limit.
Worse still a motherboard - hardware problem.

Run a Memory test.
http://www.memtest.org/
http://www.memtest86.com/download.html
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Best to run a full scan - on individual Ram sticks.
Download and burn the ISO to CD.
Boot from that CD and run the memory test overnight or for at least 8 passes.

I have bought an old laptop Toshiba Tecra 9000(P3 256mb memory), formatted the hard drive, bought XP (home) and installed it. When XP loads it works OK until it reaches the 'Welcome' screen. At this point it freezes and then frees up about 5 mins later. Once XP has eventually loaded it freezes every minute or so for about 30 seconds and then frees up again. The laptop does have a sticker on it which says designed for XP so I don't think it's under spec'd Please help!

Answer:Windows XP freezes on Toshiba Tecra 9000

I think the CMOS battery needs changing or the boot ini file is corrupt in which case you need the xp disk and boot with in inserted, when prompted select 'repair' option. This will load a new boot ini file.Also.Check in msconfig what is loading at start up, there could be software that was unistalled but windows is still expecting it to be there. START - RUN - type msconfig , then check the start up options, remove the ticks from any programs you know you do not need to load when windows boots...

I own a Toshiba Satellite L645D-S7040, when i use my Laptop it will completly freeze randomly without any reason or warning. when it freezes nothing will move (mouse) and the is frozen in time. any program that was runing at the time is also frozen in the middle of what ever task it was doing. like if i was watching a video it would make a high pitch scream until i restart it. normally it freezes after 10 to 30 minutes after start up and at time it could take hours to days to freeze. After the freeze i check the event logs and the only thing posted is the fact that i shut it down. i even did a factory restore and it still does the freezing. and yes windows 7 is the stanfard OS i the laptop. it is only about 14 months old. i am thinking of buying a new hard drive but i would rather solve the problem then buy a hard drive.

Hi

Ive just sat and ripped my hair out over this laptop, its a Toshiba Satellite, A300D. It installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit no probs, all good and i completed the installation. installed all my apps etc... and then it crashed with the C000021A error. Start up repair fixed the issue and said it was a currupted file. So i continued, and it crashed again, but this time startup repair didnt fix it. so i got the DVD out again and tryed to boot to that and then recieved the error C000021A, i then changed the ram slots, and changed the actual ram, and this did not fix the issue, so i took the hdd out and tried to boot to the cd without an Hdd, and the same result C000021A happened.

Anyway......

I found the Bios was version 1.80 and a update to 2.10 was released and that fixed the issue. Hope this saves someone else the trouble.

UPDATE YOUR BIOS!!!!

I did thru bartPE booting to xp. otherwise i would have had to reinstall vista (wich quite happily booted with no problems at all being a 32bit version) and then update the bios.

In the end the 1.80 Bios is not compatible with windows 7 64 bit and needs to be upgraded.

Hope this helps someone.

Kyle.

The laptop is an L350-170 running Vista.

On start-up the initial screen appears (Toshiba, Leading Innovation etc) and then there are a series of beeps. Each beep is the same length and there are approximately 88 of them in 45 seconds. Windows then loads and the laptop works normally.

Is this indicative of a hardware problem that needs to be fixed or is it being caused by something else? Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

I have a Toshiba Tecra S1 PT831C=13EZL

Yesterday I was doing some CAD work on the sofa and my lap top froze (mouse and keyboard not operational) so I put it aside thinking this would be temporary.
shortly after I noticed that there were horizontal lines flickering across the screen (from the right side to 1/4 the way across only on the right side) I thought strange, so I held the power button down for 5 sec's to power down and reboot when I rebooted the laptop screen was black no post or anything so I powered it down again and left it plugged in for the night. The next morning I power up it went through the post and I could log in but soon as desk top came up it froze. So I powered it down again and remembered the volume was off so turned the volume up and got some beep codes first 2 short 1 long and followed by 3 short and it repeats until I power off

So my first question is what are the beep codes?
and what would some things to check to sort out this problem
or is it worth it.

Cheers

Answer:Toshiba Tecra S1 no post but beeps

I have the very same laptop. Those beep codes are BIOS beep codes and they are directing you to what the issue/problem is. I can't remember at this point what BIOS this laptop is using but I'll try to do a search.

Here is tutoral compiled by our very own Tedster here at Techspot that should help. http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic95391.html

Hopefully someone like raybay can come by and give you better advice but off the top of my head it sounds like either your video or your monitor is the issue but I'm completely guessing here.

Hello,

My laptop freezes from time to time, especially right after it's (re)booted. Most of the time the audio or video will freeze for a couple of seconds (doesn't matter which program I use), it affects everything else too (for instance, when the music freezes, google chrome will act weird as well), but I am able to move the cursor around as much as I please.

In event viewer there's a lot of "iastor, id: 9" since the 20th of this month (the day all the freezing started to happen). But as of yesterday, it seems to be have been replaced with "atapi, id: 11". I didn't get any new software before all of this happened

I looked around and tried a couple of things that helped for others: turned off Link State Power Management; made sure all the drivers were updated; uninstalled Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Nothing seems to work over here though.

Hopefully there's something else I could try before I have to go through the hassle of reinstalling windows 7 or getting new hardware.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite L855-123 freezes from time to time

I guess you are not to replicate this freezing issue.
It?s very difficult to talk about issues which cannot be replicated or happen occasionally.

But you mentioned the "iastor? file in your posting.
Iastor is part of the Intel AHCI / SATA or RAID driver package.

Therefore I think the issue is related to the HDD or the HDD controller.
I would recommend you to update the Intel? Matrix-Storage-Manager and the Intel Rapid Storage technology driver to the latest version (check Intel page).

If this does not help, recover the notebook using Toshiba recovery disk.
In case this does not help, you would need to check if the internal HDD could be the reason for this occasional system freezing.

Answer:Toshiba NB205 - Windows 7 Home Premium Freezes randomly

Does the system freeze after you perform a specific task.. eg: playing video games, watching a movie, printing.

Does the system ever reboot on his own or overheat.

Do you have any external devices connected to the computer? If so what happen if you unplug them?

I would start by checking the system logs "event viewer" for errors. Also check device manager for bangs"!" "?".

Also try to boot to safe mode and leave the computer running for long time and see if locks up.

Test RAM - Test with Memtest86+ for 5-6 passes following steps in blue link to test both RAM and slots.

Swap your RAM sticks, try with only one stick at a time placed in slot closest to CPU.

Next check that HD is detected in BIOS setup. If not try reinstalling it checking contacts. If so boot and run the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan.

If this doesn't help then work through Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot.

would someone help me about my problem on my Toshiba satellite A105-S2712 OS Installation.

Windows XP pro OS installation freezes on "Setup is starting windows". What woul be the possible problem of my laptop?
I tried to download a driver for SCSI/mass storage device but i can't search on the net. Would someone also send me a driver for SCSI/mass storage device driver for my laptop?

Thanks in advance and hoping for your advice.

Answer:Winxp Installation On Toshiba A105 Laptop Freezes On "setup Is Starting Windows"

Are you reloading from the Toshiba supplied recovery CD/DVD's? If so, the most likely cause is a scratched or dirty CD/DVD.

If it's a regular Windows installation CD, then it's likely to be either the scratched or dirty CD/DVD or a hardware compatibility that isn't covered in the standard XP installation media.

From my research your laptop has a 60 gB IDE hard drive - so the SCSI/Mass Storage driver won't be likely to help your issue here (often the Mass Storage device on laptops is actually the SD Card reader)

Have you tested the hard drive (with a bootable diagnostic available for free from most hard drive manufacturers)? That could be causing these issues also.

my brand new Toshiba hard drive fell off of the ottoman it was on because the stupid cord is short, but it only fell two feet on to a fairly soft carpet floor. when it fell it became disconnected from the cable, and when I plugged it back in started making a clicking sound and then a beeping and clicking sound my computer wouldn't recognize it any more can it be fixed ==I hate to lose all my music files that I've worked so hard to reorganize HELP

Answer:toshiba hard drive fell off ottoman now clicks & beeps

Doesn't sound good...Apart from sending/taking it to a professional recovery service - which will not be cheap... Possibly this "may" work.Wrap drive completely in paper towel; place in a resealable bag (sandwich style) and seal it; place in the bottom of a fridge - NOT the freezer - for about an hour (at most) and then remove from the fridge.Open the bag, remove towel wrapped drive and place on a safe stable surface - and loosen the paper towel a little. Ensure towel is still in contact with the drive, but also loosely so, so as to allow the package to breathe a little. Leave it that way for about 5 - 10mins. Obviously make sure it's not going to fall off wherever, and isn't knocked. After 10mins or so, remove towel, ensure no moisture obvious on the drive; and then power up the drive via your computer as per normal. Hopefully the drive may not click - at least for a while. You may then be able to copy some files from it to dvd initially. More than likely (if successful) the above routine will need to be repeated a few times; because as the drive warms up it may start to stick, click etc., as the clearances between the drive heads and platters reduce (to their normal spacings). This is a limited time operation as the drive warms up fairly quickly; will work a few times possibly before it fails to work at all.Chilling the drive "opens" those clearances a little more for a short while. This may allow limited time to copy some of the data; so think carefully what you wish to re... Read more

After that it works as normal util the next beeeep and freeze. the computer was on full warranty until the end of 2012. I never had a problem like this before.

Does anyone have an idea how to stop this problem for good? Other than vuy a new computer.

Answer:My computer beeps and freezes

Please provide your temperatures during idle (when not running any programs and just sitting on the desktop).

Please provide your temperatures during stress (running a game, using hardware diagnostic software, rendering a video, running a full virus scan, etc.).

Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures. Real Temp is a good CPU temperature monitor.
Speccy - System Information - Free Download will monitor all hardware temperatures.
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools can be inaccurate for CPU temperatures, but is a good program for GPU temperature monitoring.
A couple stress tools to help with placing the system under stress if needed.
Run Prime95 to test your CPU, RAM modules, and general hardware.

Run FurMark to test the display card for artifacts and temperature issues.

Hi Guys,

Im new to this Forum so firstly hello, and thanks in advanced for the support!

I currently have a problem with one of my Home PC's. The PC is running Windows XP Pro with all the latest updates. When I start the PC it starts fine with no problems, but after about 15minutes the PC beeps once and then completely freezes, nothing moves, I am unable to turn off the keyboard cap lock lights, unable to move the mouse etc. Normally I would say that this is something to do with the motherboard because it is effecting the keyboard etc. Howerver this has happened to one of my other PC's in the past, I formatted the drive and it was fine.

I think that it maybe caused by a virus because I am unable to run any of my Anti-Virus tools. I have installed: SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, AVG Free and Spybot. The only ones I can get to work is SuperAntiSpyware when running in the alternative start mode.

I have tried the following so far:
Booting in Safe mode but the PC does eventually do the same thing and freezes. I have tried running mscopnfig and removing unwanted services and startup items but again this hasnt made any difference. I have checked the event logs and nothing is there.

Please can anyone offer any help?

Cheers

I turned on my laptop and tuned intoPandora. After a few minutes I heard a short beep (didn't sound likea system beep) and the music turned into a growl. After about 30seconds, it went back to playing normally. But minutes later, theevent re-occurred. After this beast's fourth appearance, I decidedto diagnose it's genesis.

The BGF appeared on other streamingaudio sites, so I turned to Youtube and discovered that when the
“growl” occurred the video froze as well. Shortly afterwardI found the freeze extended system wide, making the laptop initiallyunresponsive to input; but when the growling stopped, the laptopwould move the mouse cursor and enter the keystrokes I entered whilethe freeze occurred.

I closed the browser down and attemptedto play mp3's on the hard drive. It would play for awhile, then theBGF would appear again. I noticed that the timing seemed regular, soI tracked it for an hour. The clitch re-occured every four minutes.

Since I had installed an updated videodriver the day before, I rolled back to the previous one andre-booted. Didn't fix it. Uninstalled the audio driver withoutresult. I took it (a pizza and a six-pack) to my local computerrepair store where we listened to Pandora, Spotify and NPR, watchedYouTube and Person of Interest and played five different audioformats for an hour and a half without any problems.

Brought it back to the house and itwent back to its four minute feeding schedule.

Decided it had to be a problem so... Read more

Hello. After starting up, my computer will work normally for a few minutes, but eventually freezes. After it freezes, if I click my mouse about five times, it will beep once. Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could help me out. A few days ago I was using my laptop like usual. I went to click on something and then I heard a beep come from the computer itself. After this beep I could no longer move the mouse. My computer was frozen so I had to manually reboot it. After rebooting, my proxy settings to firefox were screwed up so I had to fix that to get firefox to work again. I also noticed when I start my computer I get an error message saying that a dll file is missing. Off and on for the past few days if I have too many programs open, if I click too rapidly or just after any random period of time I will get this beep and freeze. My computer is a Dell Inspiron E1405. I've had it for two years and have had no problems with it. I ran my virus protection software multiple times as well as a spyware scanner. I really don't think that any of that helped because the problem seems to be getting worse. Does anyone have any idea what this could be or how I could fix it? My guess is that its a nasty virus lol. Appreciate any help I could get.

My laptop, a dell Vostro 1500 (which is arounda year old) started freezing yesterday after no history of problems.

Whenever I turn it on, it runs well for about 5-10 minutes, but then my programs start to freeze (my mouse does not). After about 3-5 minutes, the mouse then freezes and an insanelly loud, continious beep is given off by the computer (not the speakers) until I manually shut it off.

I have all my work on the laptop and I would like to get it back in use soon. Can anyone tell me what problems it coudl have and how to solve them? If you need any firther clarifcation/info I can try to help. Thanks.

Answer:Help! Laptop freezes and beeps

It could be a failed cooling fan. If you don't have your data backed up, nows a time to be extra careful. Might be a good time to take it to a service center and get it looked at.

Dear all, I have a two-year-old lenovo T61. Started half year ago, my laptop got a strange problem. When I was using it, it suddenly froze, and didn't response to keyboard or mouse. I had to force to turn it off with the power button. When it was turned on, it gave four beeps and blank sreen. I googled the problem and found the beeping was associated with memory problem, so I opened up the computer and re-plugin the memory. It worked fine in this way. But after that, this problem keeps coming to me, I have to repeat the above procedures several times, and recently it gets pretty frequent. Last month, I ordered two new memory sticks and replaced the older one since I was thinking it could be a problem of bad memory. But the problem came back ten days after installing the new memories. Another potential reason for this problem I googled is overheating. It could make sense because recently I started heating in my room. I downloaded "TPFan control" to monitor the temperature. It shows when the computer is just on, the temperature is 53-56C, after using for a while normally, it goes up to 63-66C. (The problem may come at higher temperature, but I never got the temperature monitored when it happeds)  Does any one know what is the real reason for this problem? Any suggestions to solve it? Thank you! Lenovo T61, Window Vista 64 bits, Intel Core2 Duo CPU 2.5GHZ, 4G ram.  Expired warranty.

Answer:freezes and turn on with 4 beeps

Hi and welcome to the forum!

The Hardware Maintenance Manual says System board (security chip) for "Four  cycles  of  four  short  beeps  and  a  blank screen.", it's likely the system board which is going down, also since security chip is soldered on the motherboard, therefore system board replacement is the only solution, sorry!

Hope this helps.

Edit: Try disabling the security chip from the BIOS first, to do so:-
Power down the ThinkPad
Power up the ThinkPad
Press F1 to enter the BIOS
Go to the security menu, security chip submenu, TPM, set to disabled.

did have a quick look through forums nothing seems to be exactly like this.

It's more of a 'blip' than a 'beep'. shorter than the standard beep when the computer starts.

Randomly, it seems, when im already started up using windows and the computers behaved so far, it will either:
make one single blip from the tower, and the little red light will start flashing and it will freeze for about 10 seconds until the light rrturns to normal. its doing it now.
continuously blip in rhythm, the flashing light with the blips, and freeze for anywhere up to a few minutes, then returns to normal.
blip in no particular pattern, go a little mental, light and all, freeze and i generally restart the computer once i get bored which is at about 5 minutes.twice when its done this, it hasnt read the hard drive on start up and therefore cant boot. after a lot of swearing and some luck, it starts up and does read it.

when i say 'freeze' it first freezes the screen - the mouse still rolls around but in an hourglass and it doesnt register any button clicks until after the freeze, as if its just running ridiculously slowly - then it will completely freeze, and the mouse wont even move.

anti-virus and anto-rootkit scan came up clean, though im assuming this is something to do with the hardware since the sound is coming from the tower itself. Ive defraged the hard drives, which needed doing anyway. Its a massive annoyance and i dont know if it means part of the hardw... Read more

Answer:Computer beeps continuously then freezes

One of the usual suspects is the hard drive -- possibly it's starting to fail.
Back up all your data to another drive or to DVD just in case it is failing.
Then test the drive with the drive-maker's diagnostic software.

It happens randomly, ranging from a few hours after the PC is restarted to a few days. Usually I am just browsing a page or on Microsoft Word etc (nothing CPU intensive as such) when it will simply beep and completely freeze. I have installed an SSD and CPU around 4 months ago which is documented by my previous threads although this problem only started occurring in the last two weeks.

Yes the PC is 7 years old, and it has been on 24/7 for the last 4 years so could it possibly be on its last legs.

Thanks

I tried deleteing all files that didnt come with the computer, go into start menu reset to defaults. Still doesnt work :P HELP!!! PLEASE!! its brand new by like 2 months and i just took it to a computer store and had them fix it O_O

A 2 month old computer should be covered by warranty. Possibly a ram issue.

Hello. After starting up, my computer will work normally for a few minutes, but eventually freezes. After it freezes, if I click my mouse about five times, it will beep once. This started about 10 days ago. I am using Windows XP. I will try to upload my logs as soon as possible, but I am having trouble doing so because my computer keeps freezing before I can post them. When running GMER my computer showed me the blue screen with white text twice, so I saved a copy of the initial scan. Thanks.

I made a thread a while ago about my computer freezing without knowing why. I did lots of checks and ran lots of tests. I swapped my SATA cable and everything seemed to be fixed. However it is now back, the computer freezes (There is no BSOD) and then the tower beeps. It is an electronic beep.

I reset the computer by pushing the button on the front, the computer then works for a while afterwards. However it still will freeze from time to time. I am not really doing anything in particular when it crashes, sometimes it's watching a youtube video, or just looking at the news.

Additionally I don't know if it is of any use but I was away from this computer for four weeks with it being turned off, it was after this time that it seemed to start to freeze. I don't know if that is just coincidence but I know the more information I can give the better.

OK I have been trying to find the root cause of my computer, (Windows XP Media center), freezing up and then sounding a constant tone. This only happenes when I am running and doing a lot of mouse activity on any program except internet explorer. First I tested my ram hardware by switching them out one by one thinking that I had a Hardware issue. I then unpluged all of my hardware and pluged them back in (i did not mess with my processor). This did not fix anything. I downloaded and installed the reccomended programs on the read me first forum. I did not run the combofix or MG tools yet. roorepel detcted a MBR rootkit but I don't know how to get rid of it.

I have one Windows XP insalled on my C: Drive and one Windows XP on my D: Drive. I also have Windows 7 installed on my D: drive. The freezing does not happen in Windows 7 OS.

Please help me figure out why my computer freezes up.

Hello, this is my first post on this particular forum and I was hoping someone could he

and my computer keeps stalling/beeping ever since. I immediately disconnect
ed the IDE/power to the dvd burner after the computer froze/beeped continous

r what I do. I have tried different IDE cables, made sure that all of the c
ables for power/fan/etc. are plugged in and even changed the RAM into a diff
erent slot. I was very dilligent about turning the power off/taking the pow
er cord out of the computer before working on anything but I do not understa
nd what could have happened to make the computer behave like this. I have a
gigabyte 8PE667 Ultra motherboard and the computer was working completely f
ine before I attempted to install the dvd-burner. Whenever I boot the compu

bios can even identify my different IDE drives. I do not understand how a s

Thanks in advance,

I've noticed for awhile but it's getting worse. The problem started when I had a power outage. It was when I was sleeping so I didn't notice. I went to turn my computer on and the fans and lights turn on and then it beeps 5 times and turns off. I discovered a trick though, I press to turn it on and while the fans are on I press again and it turns on. I was google-ing and it said 5 beeps means a hardware error or something. But since I got it to turn on I disregarded it because it worked. I thought it was a one time thing but it happens every time my computer turns off. By the way, my computer was custom built less than a year and a half ago. (by a friend, not me) If you need to know any specs let me know, I'm not sure what type of motherboard I have if that matters. That was like a month ago or more when it first happened. But today, I was browsing the web and when I loaded a youtube vid the screen would freeze for a few seconds, It happened a few times until My 2 monitors just froze with a bunch of glitchy lines on it. So I force turned my computer off and turned it on the same way 2 presses. It turned on but then text came on saying one of my disks needs to be checked for consistency? I'll include pictures I took with my phone. What should I do? Does anyone know the problem? Thanks in advance.
I tried yahoo answers and someone said it's probably a virus so I came here.

Answer:Computer beeps & Glitchy Freezes

So, when you turn on your computer, it beeps five times? That indicates a hardware failure. That also could be the reason your monitors get lines on them. Could you tell me the brand and model of the motherboard? It should be printed on the board somewhere.

When I start running programs, multiple programs that is, sometimes my mouse will freeze. and within the time frame of that freeze, if I left-click/right-click, my speakers will start to beep at me twice, they're not long beeps, really short, moderately pitched beeps through my headphones, not my computer. The freeze will clear itself after about 4 seconds.

My system are as follows:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.130828-1532)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
Motherboard: M5A78L-M LX Series
Processor: AMD Phenom™ II X4 955 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 4094MB RAM
Page File: 3705MB used, 4481MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
Current Displayed Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit)(60Hz)

I am also using a Razer Deathadder mouse and a Microsoft SideWinder X4.

Not too sure what's wrong but I have a feeling that it has something to do with ram or something.

Hello. I've got a 3-year-old PC (AMD Athlon XP 1800+, MSI KT3 motherboard) that's never had any real problems. Recently however, my system freezes completely after it's been turned on for about 1 or 2 hours. It's sometimes preceded by a few beeps coming from the tower, or by some graphical "stuttering" when I'm playing games. My guess was that one of the two fans had stopped spinning, leading to the processor overheating, but I've checked up on them twice right after the system froze and they were both working fine. There are no viruses, spywares or trojans on my PC, and I don't remember doing anything unusual with my PC during the last few days, except perhaps leaving it on for a bit longer than usual (10 hours/day instead of 5 or 6) a day or two before it began freezing up on me.

Any ideas?

Its' probably the best way to describe it. it's happened twice in the space of about 2 months.
It happens when i'm moving emails from my inbox of btyahoo into a dedicated folder.

a box appears in the centre of the screen but flashes really quickly whilst at the same time the computer bleeps like a machine gun before then freezing.
The box just says that the computer is waiting for emails to load.

I then reboot and it's fine. (switch off from the cpu)

I'm just worried it's going to crash one of these days. I reckoned if I began some investigating now, I could hopefully prevent something catastrophic.

I have backed up relevant files using the back up tool in windows.
thanks for any guidance

My computer has a strange problem, i can't seem to find anything quite like it.

The computer, only when on my XP installation, will freeze and begin to emit a loud beep. After 20-40 seconds it will unfreeze.

This is not an overheating problem, it is well within normal temperature range(using CoreTemp), as it should be, considering i have a fancy little self-contained water-cooling system on it. I also checked memory using Memtest86 and the windows 7 memory checker, the memory is fine. The hard drive is not the problem, as booting from an old backup on a separate hard drive (from well before i had this problem) does the same thing. It doesn't appear to be caused by me doing anything specifically, i see no patterns whatsoever. And it does not do any of this while i am in windows 7, just in XP. The problem hasn't occurred for awhile, but i had my computer unplugged for a week or so, and after plugging it in it just did it again.

Specs:
Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP3 (also have currently nonworking win7)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (Brisbane) (Underclocked, doesn't change problem)
3.5gb of ram (not faulty, according to memtest86 and win7 mem checker)
1024mb nVidia GeForce GTS 250 (fairly new)

The machine is virus-free, i use malwarebytes anti-malware, updated daily, quickscan nightly, full scan weekly.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Answer:Computer freezes, beeps, unfreezes

One long beep and it freezes? But only with XP? How are you switching between OS's? Is it a single drive set up with multi-boot, two drives and you switch boot sequence in BIOS, or are you physically switching hard drives?

I ask because a long loud beep generally means a hardware issue and I'm thrown by it working OK with Win7 but not XP. Which might indicate a process trying to access a piece of hardware in a way the mobo doesn't like.

Also, you can go to your mobo manufacturers web site, look up the tech manual for your mobo, (you even might still have it yourself), and it should tell you what one long beep indicates.

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 Laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

It is having a problem since yesterday - as soon as it starts up (and I enter my login password), the mouse remains active (it moves but I cannot select/start any programs) for sometime then a screen appears from Windows Security Center warning that No Anti-Virus was found on the computer and I should download one. Then it beeps and the mouse (touch-pad) stops working and it seems that the keyboard also stops working (I tried pressing ctrl+alt+del for sometime hoping that would restart the computer but it didn't).

I tried to start the computer in the Safe Mode, but it does not boot up in Safe Mode and keep coming back to the same screen.

The laptop was also having some problems with virus attacks and everytime I ran spybot or malawarebyte, several viruses/trojans were found. These were mainly the kind that redirects the webpages to some other sites.

As I cannot run any antivirus right now, I am not sure what to do. Is it a virus related issue or something is wrong with the laptop?

Thanks.

I have a weird problem that I've searched everywhere for answers but haven't found one. My PC will occasionally make a soft beep (not from the speakers) and freeze the program I'm currently running for about 30 seconds. Then it will continue to run the program as if nothing had happened. I thought that maybe going in and dusting out the inside and outside of the PC would help but it hasn't. Also I have done several virus scans (I use Avast! Free) and nothing has came up for anything.

I have also just recently have gotten a BSOD while playing Minecraft online and hosting a server. I know my computer is more than capable of handeling and I don't understand why a BSOD came up.

I really hope its not a hardware issue because the last thing I want to do is get new parts for this computer that isn't even a year old yet.

I have attached a ZIP file with the Dump Error inside.

Back in the day, it would be running smoothly and quickly, but at its current stand-off, it's slow as hell. The computer tends to freeze and crash a lot. When it does freeze, usually what's on the screen is smeared all over the desktop and looks fuzzy/pixelated. When it crashes, it's obviously the BSoD (Blue Screen of Death). When either of those events occur, I press the power button and turn off the computer. 5-10 minutes later, I boot it back on, but something happened that I did not expect. The computer would begin to beep, repeatedly of course, about every 2-4 seconds until I decide to press the power button again. When I do try to press the power button again, the beeping cycle continues. I would have to wait about a week or two for the computer to finally work again, but 2-3 hours later, the crashing or freezing begins, and then the beeping once again takes over my computer. I unscrewed the slide on my computer and checked what was wrong. It was dusty, so I cleaned it up a little using some Dust-Off (Air canister). I turned it on again, same symptoms. I do not know how to fix this problem. Can someone help please? Thanks, many thanks...

Hello. Thanks for being available to help.
My problem is my Acer laptop suddenly froze after hitting the back button to revisit a web page. Then a LOUD, continuous beep occurred. I thought the laptop was going to explode! I tried to use control-alt-delete and even the off button but nothing happened- until i removed the battery. After putting the battery in seconds later, the scan disk scanned and no problems. Does my laptop have a virus?

Hi,
i use my PC every day and it has been rock stable for years.
however lately i have an issue while browsing:
the computer freezes randomly when i'm online. It freezes completely -even the mouse- for a few seconds.
Then it beeps once from the speakers and unfreeze at the same time.
No BSOD or anything else.

Seems like a hardware problem, but i am not sure.
It should beep from the desktop inside if it was the RAM.
Also, i tried a lot of stress-tests to ensure 24/7 stability
It passed memtest for >12hrs, HD tune, IBT, and even prime95 for 24hrs, to fail when i opened 5-6 chrome tabs!

I found the same question from the member "chris6273" who also happens to have alomost the same system with me.
But the thread was closed and i coulden't find a satisfying answer.
please help

My L855-11P dual boots with clean installs of Windows 7 and 8, both with up to date drivers. Windows 7 runs perfectly but the trackpad keeps freezing on Windows 8.

When using the trackpad the cursor will suddenly freeze on screen; I have to take my finger off the pad and put it back on before the cursor will start to move. There doesn't seem to be any particular pattern to when this happens but it is very frequent, two or three times per minute.

Windows reports the driver as version 16.2.10.15 dated 16.08.2012; the Toshiba site shows this driver as being updated 28/11/12.

Any advice appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L855 - trackpad keeps freezing on Windows 8

I guess this isn?t an touchpad driver problem.
I think the issue is related to the touchpad settings.

Here is a nice documentation how to change the touchpad settings in Win 8 system:

[How to change the Synaptics touchpad settings in Windows 8?|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD3101Z30000R01.htm ]

In your case I recommend to change the touch sensitivity and to disable the multifinger gesture control

Hi,

During the last three weeks, I've been having a number of BSODs, system freezes and random shutdowns. Sometimes my laptop works for 6 hours without problems, and sometimes I get multiple BSODs in an hour.
I'm afraid it's probably a hardware problem that I won't be able to repair in my laptop, but I would really like your help to possibly solve it.

I've experienced:
BSOD error codes 00003B, 000024, 0000F4, 00007E
Computer won't turn on at all. I've had to remove the battery, hold down the power button a few seconds, connect it again to the adapter and then turn it on.
Computer repeats 4 short beeps (I've looked it up, it means a RAM problem). After a few minutes of being off, I can turn it on again.
Everything completely freezes immediately (no mouse, no response on ctrl-alt-delete) but screen remains on
Screen turns off, speakers plop, but the buttons lights and fans remain on.
One of the first errors I've received was (System error TNT.40025 Unexpected processor exception occurred. Error occurred in protected mode, exception/interrupt number 000Dh)

Things I've tried to fix it:
Windows updates
Driver updates (checked on dell website for most recent ones)
BIOS flashed to recent version
reset all BIOS settings back to default
Memtest (I ran it for 15 minutes the first time. No problems. However every other time I've tried to use it, it crashed immediately upon use. Might be because it was on a pretty old Ubuntu cd?)
Use only 1 stick of RAM. Still got crashes with either... Read more

Answer:different BSOD, system freezes and shutdowns. 4 beeps during boot etc.

Right, it looks like you have a hardware failure on your hands. There are a few tests I need you to run.
Prime95 to stress test your CPU.

Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

Memtest86, I know you have already ran this but you must run it for at least 8 passes.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Finally Seatools to scan your HDD for errors.

SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use

Post back the results.

I updated the BIOS and the problem is still there. Pressed F12 to select boot device, it doesn't even boot from CDs nor USB drives. Removed HDD to test it in another computer, it seems healthy and without problems. I tried booting from USB without the HDD installed and it booted perfectly. Apparently, the HDD is blocking the boot even for the HDD itself. It looks like a BIOS problem for me, how can I repair it?

Answer:G450 doesn't boot, freezes after POST without beeps

anyone? I think it is a BIOS problem, can someone help, please? I have full access to BIOS, what should I do to restore the system? If I remove the HDD everything works OK, but once I put back the HDD, even the boot device selector fails (i.e. doesn't boot the device I chose and freezes). Can it be an issue with the SATA host controller? if so, how can I repair it? The options available in BIOS are very limited, there's nothing to modify, not because I'm not supervisor, but because there just isn't any choices apart from some very basic options like date. ahci mode, usb legacy support and such. Thanks!

Greetings friends,
the problem goes like this: I have a TOSHIBA satellite, L855-12N, series notebook.

After updrading to Win 10, some of my keys (a,n, enter) were not working initially.
If I wait for some time, they would start work later.
I find that if I keep pressing a button, (e.g. the button "a") for a long time, I see that it gradually starts to respond, then stop again, then respond - stop, until finally it works OK.
I tried to upgrade the drivers, unistall then reinstall them, but it does not seem to work.
Does anyone know what is happening, or have a suggestion?
Thank you.

Answer:Satellite L855 - 12N - Keyboard problem after upgrade to Windows 10

Are you 100% it's a Windows 10 issue?
Sounds more like a hardware problem, keyboard may need replacing.

Go into the BIOS and test the keyboard in there.
If it happens in the BIOS as well then replace the keyboard.

If it is a software problem, try uninstalling the touchpad driver via Control Panel, then reinstall it through Windows Update.

Hello,

I had to replace the HDD on my L855-B511, I tried to create a recovery media before replacing the HDD using both DVDs and USB sticks, but it didn't work as I think the HDD was corrupted.

There is no windows license sticker on the back of the laptop or under the battery (only windows 8 logo), so I downloaded an app to retrieve the product key from the registry, but after reinstalling windows I tried to activate it, I discovered that the product key is invalid (tried the app on a different machine and it gave me a different product key than the one on the sticker).

is there any way I can re-activate windows without buying a new license ?.

Answer:Satellite L855-B511 - How to activate Windows OS - no serial key

> is there any way I can re-activate windows without buying a new license ?.

Unfortunately there is no way to do this. In my opinion your issue is clearly warranty issue and service provider should exchange HDD for free. This model is pretty new so I presume warranty is still valid. You could say to service guys that recovery media creation didn?t work and ask if you can get recovery media for free.

If you want to fix it on your way you must order new recovery disc. This notebook model is offered on Middle East so I don't know if you can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx but you can check it.

Hi there. I will try to explain the situation as best I can. My computer will work for a little bit (an hour, maybe 1/2 hour) then while surfing in internet, I click on anything (doesn't matter) the computer will start clicking like the sound it makes when you click the enter key too many times, freezes and then won't allow me to even do a reboot. I have to turn the power off. Recently I hit a site which started up some executible, so it leads me to believe I have a nasty virus, but not 100% sure, thus I came looking to you guys. My machine is really slow too on the boot up process, launching programs (Word, IE, Mozilla) thus I think even more problems. Anything you can do to help is appreciated. Everything (I hope) is below. I also checked my keyboard and mouse to be sure that nothing was hitting the keys - unplugged them and rebooted and still it would freeze up. I do not get any errors, just this strange beeping that will start up, the machine freezes and I reboot. Also the machine is EXTERMELY slow now. No new programs loaded that I remember, but could be part of a problem. I couldn't get a log yet from GMER - I hope that's ok. It ran and ran, then frooze. I did it again and same problem. I let it run this morning before work so maybe when I get home I will see a result. Hope so!Thanks so much. Oh I have the hijackthis log if needed. I've been experience some problems with my computer recently where usually when I'm playing a video game, even simple video games like Terraria, I will usually hear my physical computer beep three times, the screen will freeze, and I won't be able to do anything else. This will occur at random moments in the game, no specific action triggers it. I read that it might have something to do with playing in fullscreen mode, so I started playing games in fullscreen windowed but the problem still persists. I have a three year old Alienware Desktop computer, so the games that I am playing shouldn't be something that my system can't handle. I have the minidumps available, but am unable to upload them, so if you would like them just ask! Thanks for the help in advance!

Answer:Screen Freezes, Computer Beeps, Unable to do any action except shut down

We need more information about your system than what you've provided. Hence, please follow these BSOD posting instructions and attach the requested files by replying to this topic. You may skip the part of step three where it instructs you to create a new topic, since you already have a topic here. There's no need to create another topic.  When was the last time you cleaned the inside of your computer? If it's three years old there should be a decent amount of dust inside the case, which could be related to the freezes (overheating). Get yourself some compressed air (cheap at Walmart, though other places sell them too) and blow out as much dust as possible. While waiting for a response to your log files, please run these hardware diagnostics. You'll want to run them all, and monitor your temps with one of the tools listed on the page.Thank you.Regards,bwv848

Hello,

I just bought a new SSD (840 EVO 250GB) for my L855-149 and I would like to reinstall windows 8 on that new SSD. On top of that, I would like to migrate all recovery partitions that are present on the factory HDD.

What is the best way to do this?
Is there some Toshiba tool for that? I do not have any installation disks for Windows 8.

Please advise.

Answer:Satellite L855-149 - migrating Windows 8 to new SSD, including recovery partitions

Hi

On Toshiba notebooks you can always find a preinstalled tool called Toshiba Recovery Medium creator.
This tool creates the Recovery Medium (disk or flash USB stick)
Using such recovery medium, you will be able to set the notebook back to factory state, including all the partitions which were available on the first day of purchase.

Hello,

I own a Satelllite L855-11T and installed Windows 8 Pro x64 (DreamSpark full version). Everything works fine except for one thing: I can't change the screen's brightness.

I installed the newest drivers and TVAP, System Driver, etc (even from csd.toshiba.com, because these already are for Windows 8). Toshiba Function Key doesn't work, don't know why. And Intel won't let me install the display driver: my system wouldn't meet the requirements. I thought there's an integrated GPU in Ivy Bridge?

Well, when I press FN + F2/F3 the brightness indicator bar appears and changes its value, but nothing's happening on my screen. I just stays the same (seems to be applied after restart). I even deactivated adaptive brightness, but it didn't help. Any other function keys are working fine (out of the box by the way).

I hope you can help me.

Answer:Windows 8: Screen brightness doesn't change (Satellite L855-11T)

At the moment it is not easy to help with Win8 malfunctions. Until Toshiba doesn?t start official Win8 support we can just write about good or bad luck.
Generally speaking there are many Toshiba tools and utilities that must work together. At the moment there are no offered tested versions.

Display drivers for mobile units are offered and tested by notebook manufacturers so until Toshiba doesn?t offer it I think you should use your Win8 and learn how it works. In my opinion the main thing is to check all new functions. All Toshiba specific stuff can be installed additionally.
Later when Win8 support starts you can install it again and have well working OS including Toshiba specific functions.

Hi Guys,

Right i've encountered a major problem, i needed to reset my laptop to its factory settings, so therefor i followed out procedures as normal, it started resetting, but when it got to 36% it just stopped froze and shut dwn the laptop. Is anyone able to help me on this situation, as i am in major need of my laptop.

Thanks Sam.

Answer:My Toshiba Will Not Reset. Gets To 36% and freezes

Hello Sam

Sorry but how to help? You didn?t write which notebook model you have? How you make recovery installation? Do you use recovery DVD or you have started HDD recovery installation?
I would like to have possibility and read your minds but unfortunately it doesn?t work. ;) Just a joke!

If you use recovery DVD I see two reasons there: either is recovery DVD damaged and some DVD data cannot be read properly or the HDD has some problem.

Hey, i have a 2 year old Toshiba SP6100, which just started to act a little weird.
I had it on locked for about 3 hours, when i came back, i tried to log in and it froze. I heard a buzzing noise for about a split second, and it went away.
When i turned it off (hard) it didnt want to start up again. I managed to get it working again (removed the battery, and hooked up power etc), and the CMOS was reset (time & date we're gone). The warrantytime has already expired, so there's no use in returning it.
Is there anyway i could fix it myself?
Anyone know what could be broken?

I already searched and found a simmiliar topic.

Thanx in advance.

Answer:Toshiba SP6100 - Freezes

Hi Georg

Sorry but it seems to be some serious problem. I am not sure that there is some possibility to fix it alone.

Contact Service partner and ask what it can be and if there is some hardware problem they can give you information about costs.

I installed IE v7 beta (please don't tell me how foolish that was!!) on this computer and then couldn't get online. I was able to uninstall it but now I have problems that seem related to that. One, some of the basic things from Win XP are missing such as ability to change pointers, no games available, etc. Any suggestions on how to get those back would be greatly appreciated. I'm really trying to avoid doing recovery because I have never backed up my computer and basically don't know how, yet. Two, I have lost the ability to use Firefox; I have uninstalled, downloaded and reinstalled it and it still won't connect to the internet. Three, it seems I'm unable to change my homepage from MSN to anything else I'd like even though I've tried Tools, Interned Options and Homepage numerous times; is there any other way to unlock that? Four and most annoying of all is that my computer freezes up sporatically, but too often. It seems to occur when I leave it idle for a short period of time, like 5 minutes or so.

Based on the suggestion that "there's never too much information", the following is info on my computer from Belarc.

Answer:Toshiba Qosmio freezes

Might be overheating. Run HW Monitor to check temps.

You have enough RAM, but you should run memtest, just to make sure.

You might have spyware/malware, run malwarebytes. You also might want to run Ccleaner.

My laptop is a toshiba (not the one listed in the product category). Whenever I try to watch a movie on my laptop recently, the screen and the mouse freeze. All I can do is turn it off, and restart it again, and usually it will still freeze about a dozen times before I can use it again. It only started about a month ago, but now it does even without a movie, and I lost data that I did save before the computer froze again. Is that a virus?

Answer:Toshiba laptop freezes

Who knows? One way to find out, run a virus scan on it. Do you have an up to date scanner on the machine?

Hi everyone My X220 does some beeps when I power it up : 5 short beeps, a pause, 5 short beeps again. I heard it before when I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version but it was louder. Now I hear it every time I power my X220 up but not when I reboot. Another BIOS update didn't solve it but I think I may have accidentally modified something in the nvram. Thanks for your help

Answer:Beeps at power up : 5 beeps, pause, 5 beeps

BIOS you have downloaded isn't original (i.e.modified). So, embedded controller and TPM respond to the modification.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35 laptop that continues to freeze. I am running Windows XP Home Edition and have 1.5 GB of Ram and 80 GB Hitachi HDD. Because of the freezes, I replaced my hard drive, reinstalled factory OS with drivers, changed my battery, changed and upgraded my memory but as soon as I log on to Windows........it freezes. One thing I can say is that the first time I log on, it stays up for about 5 to 10 mins before it freezes. After, as soon as my profile gets up and running, freezes. I have enough time to move my cursor over to the start button and click on anything and it freezes.

I don't know what else to do. I have changed everything I am able and this thing does not want to stay up.

Have anyone heard of Toshiba having this problem? Please let me know the next step to take because I have exhausted all my resource thus far!

Plug into any of the three usb ports with any device and everything locks up. No cursor movement, no touch pad, no keyboard. CAD does nothing. Do a hard reset and everything but USB works. I have reinstalled updated drivers, updated BIOS. Still the problem remains.Toshiba Satelite M70-CL1

Answer:Plug into any USB freezes my Toshiba Satelite

Try it in safe mode. If that doesn't work, reset the BIOS.How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

Hey guys. I have an old Toshiba Satellite M35X-S149 with XP, circa 2004. It USED to have SP3, but after repeated freezes and bluescreens, I decided to back up my data and start a fresh install of SP2. Or was it SP1? Not sure.

Either way, it still freezes and bluescreens. Something I noticed before I reinstalled Windows was that the computer would not freeze if the internet was actively streaming. So I did something obvious and constantly had an online radio stream running. This seemed to work for a while, but it would still occasionally flash the BSoD and reboot immediately.

Anyway, now I can't even stop it with streaming internet. I'm thinking that it's a hardware issue, considering how even after a fresh install there was still a problem.

Also of note is that occasionally the BIOS takes a long time start.

I don't have the money to buy a new laptop, so it would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me out. I'm considering installing Ubuntu and seeing if that works.

Thanks in advance, Jacob.

Answer:Old Toshiba Laptop Freezes/Bluescreens

The streaming thing makes me wonder if the wireless was set to shut off to save power. It's an oddball symptom, for sure.

Well, let's check EVERYTHING.

First check Device Manager, click "show hidden devices". Any flagged items ?

Run chkdsk several times, to make certain the HD is consistantly good.

Vacuum the intake and exhaust ports, to reduce the possiblity of overheating due to dust, etc...

run memtest86 to verify the memory is good (or not).

Run a scan from Trendmicro's "Housecall" to verify the HD is malware-free.

Run an internet speed test from here:
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

If/when it BSOD's, post the full and exact text of the error message, particularly if it mentions a file name, such as "xyz123.sys".

Install SpeedFan, and report the CPU temp at idle & under load, and also the voltages.

No point in installing it while the machine is being worked on, but SP3 is a real good idea for security reasons.

Check Event Viewer under "Applications" and "System" for chronic and/or significant errors.

My Toshiba Satellite laptop when I turn on the power button starts up but freezes up after running for a few minutes. After freezing up I have to turn it off with the power button. When I try to turn it on again it will not start, the power light comes on, the battery light turns on and also the fan turns on but the hard disk drive light will not turn on and the screen is black. I leave the laptop turned off for a few hours and then when I turn it on again, it will start up for a few minutes and then freezes up and there is no activity in the system.

I observed that when the system freezes up, there is no hard disk drive light and the laptop just shuts down. I managed to re-install windows xp despite the constant freezing but with the new windows xp intall, the freezing-up continues. The system freezes and when I turn the power off and on again, it does not come up on the screen. The screen remains black. My memory module is good because I checked it on another system and it works just fine. I know it is not memory and software related problems. It is a hardware problem but which? Please help someone. OS is Windows XP.

Answer:Toshiba laptop freezes up after a few minutes.

sounds like your hard drive is starting to fail on you. if i were you i would locate another laptop hard drive, maybe you have an extra one or from a friend. then install it in your computer and see if it still freezes up. formatting will not help. how old is the hard drive? if its newer it could still be under warranty and you may be able to get it replace for free. i have a western digital hard drive and it has a 5 year warranty. once u are sure that its the hard drive buy a new one or get it replaced with the warranty if you have one.
