Enabling Cursor

Question: Enabling Cursor

I have an Dell Inspiron N5010. My wireless mouse and touch pad bar lock up on me. I cannot move my cursor/pointer only when I sign into my computer. Otherwise it's no hope. I tried everything I could possible do. Even the key to the right of F12 key. No luck. I can only tab or move the arrows L, R, U, D. That it. It will not allow me to change my setting in the mouse to enable it. Can someone help.

Preferred Solution: Enabling Cursor

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Enabling Cursor

Have you tried a USB Wired mouse to test if that works? If you do not own one, maybe you could borrow one for a short time to test your system.

Cursor is smooth and fast at startup (and in safe mode), sound works fine (startup noise) but when everything loads and Windows is actually usable, it's like the PC works great .. until you move the cursor.

Cursor is choppy and affects sounds. I can watch video and listen to music perfectly, until I move the cursor.

I made a video of this:

www.youtube.com/watch?&v=4JwfH3qgChI

Things I've tried: uninstalling / reinstalling / repairing / etc. mouse drivers, video card drivers, network adapter drivers (thought the problem was related to network activity because of startup/safe mode behaviour being normal), catalyst control centre, etc.

In task manager performance tab, cpu goes to 100% usage when the cursor is moved around.

New build, no viruses, scanned for good measure with Avast (then uninstalled Avast to see if it helped), Malwarebytes, Spybot, Microsoft Security etc. I don't see how infection could even be a problem at this point

Anyone recognise this problem or have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

On my Dell computer, after a Windows update, the cursor was gone. It rebooted after updating and its currently locked on my log in security screen. I have a external mouse that will let me put the arrow on the login space, but my keyboard will not work. Without the cursor, I can't do any other suggestions I've received on different sites trying to fix this! It was fine before the upgrade. I'm 65 and not very tech savvy so I need help please!

Maybe this sounds weird, but I like the classic cursors and I want the cursor to stay the same whether it's showing a background or busy activity.

I tried to capture the cursor and edit it with AWicons, but when I set it, the entire cursor just dissapears when I launch an app for example. But when the white cursor is smaller than the normal, it's fine.

Answer:Apply classic arrow cursor to background and busy cursor?

You can just download standard classic cursor from XP and apply it to every cursor type by clicking on each type and selecting that file with Browse button.

Hi,

Not sure if this is Windows related or not. This may have more to do with my VGA output, but anyway:

I am having an issue with my mouse cursor jumping around on the screen whenever I let it sit idle for even a second or two or if I start typing. This only seems to happen when I have my laptop plugged into my HDTV via VGA cable and duplicate/extend/whatever the display.

They only appear to happen when I use the cursor in the extended desktop (but never my main laptop LCD, plugged into VGA or not).

The fact that I am using a mouse or touch pad is irrelevant as both work perfectly fine when not connected through VGA, so I am convinced that this is not a hardware problem.

Can anyone offer any perspective/advice on this?

Thank you.

Hi, Everyone- when typing on a new Asus EEE 1015, with Win 7, the cursor will suddenly jump backwards to an earlier spot in the text. This happens a lot, and makes it difficult to type anything.

I googled and saw this problem for many systems and OSs, but it seems like mainly a laptop and netbook problem. some people have erduced sensitivity on touchpads, or have updated touchpad drivers, or have installed a program that disconnects the touchpad when the keys are being used.

We know we are not touching the touchpad accidentally. you can really perch your fingers way above, and the jump still happens. We have decreased the sensitivity on the touchpad, and the jumping still happens.

We also have an Asus EEE 1005 Win XP, for almost a year, with absolutely no cursor jumping.

Any info specific to this set-up? I would love to hear any insights, before I go into a long routine of upgraing BIOS, upgrading touchpad drives, etc.

Answer:Cursor jumping Asus Eee 1015, cursor moves when typing

As the PC is new I would return it under warranty as this is most likely a hardware issue.

The only quick fix that might work is to reinstall the touchpad drivers from the Asus site. You could also check in the touchpad settings to see what is set for making the cursor disappear during typing, change the setting from whatever it is at present and see if that helps.

1. Optical USB mouse won't move the cursor.
2. Mouse buttons function properly
3. Bought a new similar mouse, same problem, ruling out damaged mouse likelihood.

4. Have tried multiple USB slots. Have tried rebooting. Have tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting.
5. Saw somewhere to remove battery but I'm in a hotel and have no screwdriver to do so.

Really need to fix this as my shoulder is becoming inflamed reaching to the mousepad. Help?

Hi All:

I have found a pointer that I want to use in my Windows7 environment, it is the airplane pointer used in Secret Weapons Over Normandy. Can anyone tell me how I go about this? It appears the cursor in the game folder is a .bin file without a picture while cursor files are .cur and have a picture in the file listing.

Thanks

Hello,

Thanks for your help in advance.

I think this might be caused by Malware, but leave it up to you for suggestions.

In the last 5 days I've notice the cursor flashing up as the save/eggtimer icon every 2-10 seconds no matter what screen or programme I'm on. Even when logging in to windows it flashes up several times during that log in process. It's very fast - just a flash - then returns to the cursor icon. However, I use a fingerprint scanner. No matter what screen or programme I'm on it's doing this constantly. It never did it before this week - other than when I pressed ctrl S. It's done it several times since I've typed this./

Also, the cursor has a mind of it's own about once a day. What happens is though I try to drag it one direction, I can't move it or it goes the other way. I don't use a mouse but a touch pad. I'm careful not to touch the pad and know that it's just sort of doing it itself. Occasionally it even clicks on files during this process when I'm not clicking.

What do you suggest? I saw the things to do before posting Hijack This thread - should I go through that?
Thank you.

Answer:cursor/eggtimer flashing and cursor with mind of own..

Hi Sally!
Welcome to Major Geeks!

Is there anyone else within your physical range that might have a touchpad or mouse that could be accidentally connecting to your mouse mechanism via an infrared or radio signal? Does the same thing happen if you physically take your computer someplace else in your city? I suggest you borrow a mouse, if you don't have one that goes with your computer, and see if it gives you the same effects as the touchpad. If at all possible, use a corded mouse, not a cordless one. Also, go into Start / Settings and open Mouse, go to the hardware tab and run the trouble-shooting button. If your cursor is straying and clicking on things, it would be a good idea to check your computer for malware, but make sure first it's not an accidental connection occuring with someone else's computer, which does happen sometimes. If you would like our help with looking for malware, please follow the instructions and links in the box so we can look at your logs:

Firstly, please excuse my lacking of computer knowledge, I'm merely a scatterbrained teen looking for some help. I'm not even sure this thread is in the right place.

I've looked around the web for the longest time for a solution to this problem, but have found nothing but advice on restarting the computer, which does nothing to help.

This flashing cursor is very annoying, and not only is it a visual irritant, but ever since it started to flash, my computer has been running slower than usual. I've checked task manager for any strange or unusual processes that might be trying to run and keep failing and restarting, but everything seems normal there.

Currently I'm running a virus scanner to see if any malware has tampered with anything, but so far no risks there besides the usual few tracking cookies.

For now, to keep me from pulling my hair out from the massive irritation this problem brings, I have went into the mouse settings and changed the 'working in background' cursor to the regular pointer to keep it from visually flashing.

I'd be very grateful if someone could be of some assistance; for if this is causing some hazardous problem with my computer, simply hiding the flashing cursor will do no good.

Question: Enabling SSL & TLS

-hey guys whta is the benefit of enabling SSL & TLS in web browsers?

Answer:Enabling SSL & TLS

It is enabled by default. You might like to check that it is. As far as I know, there's no reason why you should run a browser with it disabled. It is needed for secure communications on secure sites. Perhaps there's no need to go further than that but if you would like to learn more about the protocols, there is plenty to be found. These two pages seem pretty informative:

Hello all,As my very first post can I stretch your combined brainpower and experience to allow me to enable a CD Rom in Win 3.11?Digging into my memories of DOS and such early versions of Windows I have:1. Downloaded Generic Mscdex and Oakcdrom.sys2. The Mscdex consisted of versions 221, 222, 2233. Which is correct for the above version of 3.11?I have included the correct syntax for Mscdex and drivename etc in both Autoexec.bat and Config.sys.But when I boot up, the final sequence of searching within Mscdex is displayed as Incorrect version.Does this mean the Dos or Mscdex? The machine running Win 3.11 is a platform PC (AMD DX2/50MHZ, 256mb) for my friend's garage emission gases analyser and the updates for it's software are now supplied on CDs. I know we could break these down on another PC and produce floppies but it seems old hat to do this now.Very grateful for any help...P.S. If successful will the CD Rom show up in program manager? I've upgraded to IE7, but keep getting advised that add-ons & Active X are not enabled. MS screen advice to close and restart IE7 is rubbish - no difference!
When I go to tools the manage add-ons button is grayed out and cannot be chosen, so I go to tools, internet options, then programs, the manage add-ons there tells me they are all enabled, but when I open any window in IE it tells me right away that add ons are disabled.

Hello,

Rescently i just bought and built my first computer, it is shown below in my sig but there is something i can't get. I've looked everywhere in my bios and there is no place where i can enable 8x agp. I am positive both my mobo and my vid card support it so i'm not sure what to do. The only setting that i see that relates to agp is where it says agp port. The choices are agp/pci or pci/agp, I set it to agp/pci. Everyone says there should be an options that says enable 8x agp but i don't see it anywhere, I've consulted my mobo manual but i don't see it in there either. In my monitoring program, (eida32) it says agp is disabled so. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Need help with enabling AGP please

I had a look at this the other day and i found the AGP enable option in the advanced chipset features in the BIOS. Otherwise Check for BIOS updates and this may solve your problem.

I recently upgraded my computer (by myself : :blackeye: ). It was new installation of a video card. My old one was an Integrated NVidia that is forever onboard as far as I can tell, and the new video card is an ATI Radeon 7000. I installed it, and it seems to be working all right as far as everything goes.

I recently went to play a game, LineageII. I knew I fell somewhere between the minimum and maximum requirements, so I went to play and it told me that my AGP was deactivated, and to enable it for consistency. When I'd start the game, the screen would go black. I figured I'd better enable my AGP -- however, when I went to do so I realized I had no frickin' clue how to do it. I tried to do it through DirectX, but it's greyed out. When I tried to do it in Bios, my Bios said NOTHING about any AGP but at the same time I haven't an idea what to look for and modify thus I got really confused. I've been trying for two days now to figure something out without ruining my computer Help!

I know I run an ASUS motherboard.
My Bios type -- I don't know but it says "ev 1004/aa" under revision type and something about Pheonix Award Bios Setup.

I am so lost! Help me!

Answer:Enabling AGP? Could this be it?

it will say init type / agp apature / its gets called different names , mostly it is located in advanced bios or integrated peripherials . and you need it on to use the hard ware acceleration

Answer:Enabling IIS

I'm assuming you're in the "Turn windows features on/off" dialogue?

The coloured square means only some of the sub-items are selected. You may need to expand the Internet Information Services item and make sure the features you need are all ticked, or just tick everything (then the top-level checkbox will change to a tick instead of a solid colour).

Would it be safe to enable DMZ on my PS3? I don't really want to mess with ports and whatnot and just want to be sure there aren't any networking issues with my router, security and the PS3.

So would I be ok to enable DMZ on the PS3, or would it potentially open security risks for my PC as well somehow?

Question: Enabling S.M.A.R.T

I was wondering if S.M.A.R.T was enabled for my HDD.
I've checked my BIOS and have seen no options for it. (Not sure what my BIOS type is but I have a COMPAQ Presario C700t and the BIOS version is F.34
I've also tried to access the advanced BIOS (I Googled it and the only thing I've seen was to press Crtl + F1 to access the advanced menu in the BIOS, but nothing happens when I do that.)

I also see a hidden entry in my Task Scheduler under DiskDiagnostic called 'Microsoft-Windows-DiskDiagnosticResolver' and the description says:

"The Microsoft-Windows-DiskDiagnosticResolver warns users about faults reported by hard disks that support the Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) standard. This task is triggered automatically by the Diagnostic Policy Service when a S.M.A.R.T. fault is detected."

I've always had it as Disabled and I enabled it. When rebooting and viewing again, it shows it has not run. If I run it manually, it triggers DFDWiz.exe in system32 but nothing happens.

How do I know/enable S.M.A.R.T.?

dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /Source:d\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

But you have to replace :d with the correct drive.

Just posting in case anyone else has the same issue

I have installed Panterasoft's HDD Health freeware. It monitors the health of the hard drives. My problem is this..... It finds both of my hard drives but only reports one as being SMART enabled. Both drives are identical Maxtor 6Y120PO and are C:\ Master on primary IDE and F:\ as slave on same IDE.After much trial and error, I have identified the enabled drive to be my slave disk, the F:\ drive which stores all my music and media files. How the hell do I enable SMART on the other drive (active system drive with XP home SP2).I've looked in the BIOS (Award Phoenix BIOS vers 6.00 on ASUS A7N8X mobo)but cannot find anything to enable the SMART.Any ideas out there?

Answer:Enabling S.M.A.R.T on two HDD

Bol Uwd, go into your BIOS and press control and F1 at the same time. In my BIOS(also by Award), this shows more advanced features. In my version, I can enable SMART by going into the "Advanced Bios Features".HTH, dagwoood.

I have been going around and around with this issue.  I bought a brand new Dell laptop that had 8.1 on it.  I then purchased 8.1 Pro so that I can use Bitlocker.  My company is requiring that I encrypt my entire internal hard drive (C drive).
I've had a few IT guys follow the steps you can find online to set this up.

We've tried with using just a password at sign on - that did not work.  Then we tried with using a USB flash drive as the key to sign on.  That did not work.

I've talked to the Microsoft Store Tech guys in person and one of them told me that if I don't have a TPM chip on my computer Bitlocker isn't going to run.  But that doesn't make sense because why does the error message tell you a work around when you
computer doesn't have TPM?!  I don't know if I believe them.

The IT guy within my company said the BIOS need to be adjusted.  I don't really know what this means and I don't know how to do it.  He told me I need to have someone experienced with whole disk encryption WDE do it in person.  Well I can't find
anyone in the Bay Area.  Geek Squad doesn't know how to do this or even offer this as a service.  Dell wants to charge me an additional $230 for this kind of "premium support" as the call it.

Answer:Enabling Bitlocker without a TPM - 8.1 Pro

Hello Enabling Bitlocker without a TPM,
Do you mean that you want to enable BitLocker without  TPM?
Do you receive any error message when you fail to encrypt the C: drive?
Please contact the Manufacturer DELL to confirm if the laptop has TPM.
A TPM is a microchip designed to provide basic security-related functions, primarily involving encryption keys. The TPM is usually installed on the motherboard of a computer or laptop, and communicates with the rest of the system using a hardware bus.
Please take the following steps to enable BitLocker without  TPM.
1. Run gpedit.msc.
2. Go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, BitLocker Drive Encryption, Operating System Drives, Require additional authentification at startup
3. Enable Require additional authentification at startup will
Allow Bitlocker without a compatible TPM
4. Then go to Control Panel\System and Security\BitLocker Drive Encryption and turn on BitLocker.
For more information, please take a look at the following article.

Hi, I just recently got an Envy All-in-One Touchsmart; it is a super machine and so far, so good. The 10-point touch is really cool, but there are many instances when I would like to be able to use a pen in order to be more precise in my pointing or to "mark up" a document.  I know Microsoft Office has the "inking" feature because I use it on my Laptop with a "pen" while I am traveling and have found it invaluable -- and, by the way this laptop is both touch and pen enabled. I tried to enable "pen" by going to the Control Panel feature that is says says Pen and Touch, but when you do so, it is only for Touch.  How can I make it so that it both touch and pen enabled?  If that is all possible, what type of "pen" do I need? Thank you very much

Solved!

Answer:Enabling Pen on TouchSmart

Hi AIResnick, A stylus used on a capacitive touch screen basically just takes the place of your finger, so enabling touch on the computer will enable pen input as well. But it can't just be any pen or stylus, the material at the tip has to be something that will register as touch on the screen, and not scratch it. I read your other post and I understand you're looking for a finer-tipped stylus, rather than the ubiquitous blunt-ended, eraser-type stylus pens. That limits your options quite a bit, because I believe the larger surface area is part of what makes those pens work on capacitive screens. (Other types of touch screens can use other styles of stylus, including pointy-tipped ones in some cases.) I've heard good things about the Jot Pro from Adonit. I haven't tried it, so I can't speak from experience. The design seems clever--it looks like they attached a clear, flat disc to the tip of a metal pen, so you can see precisely where you're writing with the point of the pen, but the clear disc provides enough surface area for the touch to register, and prevents damage to your screen from the sharp pen point. I hope that helps.

Question: Enabling cookies

This will show all of you how little I know about computers

A web site said I have to have my cookies enabled

I eat cookies... but how do I check whether my cookies are enabled or not?

All this talking about cookies makes me want to go out and buy some....

Anybody know about this:?

Answer:Enabling cookies

Hello ,

Control Cookies

Computer cookies are small text files that store information about the websites you have visited and the things you did on those sites. Cookies come in two flavores: trustworthy- which assist and support your Internet usage - and tracking- which are used by Internet marketers to show you customised advertisements. To control the cookies that are placed on your computer, do the following:

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click the Tools drop-down menu.
3.Select Internet Options.
4. A window opens. Click the Privacy tab.
5. Click the Advanced button.
6. Put a checkmark in the override Automatic Cookie Handling box.
7. Under the First-party Cookies heading, click the Block button.
8. Put a checkmark in the Always Allow Session Cookies box. This allows websites to place a cookie on your computer that expires the moment you exit the website (which means the cookie cannot be used to track you).
9. Under the Third-party Cookies heading, click the Block button.

hope this helps

I bought my thinkpad t61 used 8 months ago.  It had an fresh install of windows xp professional on it.  I disabled bluetooth because I thought it would make the laptop more secure.  I hadn't used bluetooth before, and didn't think I needed it.  I recently got an ipod, and would like to connect with bluetooth.  I don't remember how I disabled it, so I don't know what to do to enable it again.  I used msconfig to reenable it in startup and I also checked the box to make it visable in bluetooth configuration under control panel.  I now have a startup icon with a red bluetooth symbol on it.  When I right click it, it says bluetooth not found.  I looked for it in the device manager.  There is bluetooth device mentioned.   When I right click it, it says the device is working properly.  I clicked troubleshooting, but the trouble shoot is just asking me ot do stuff I've done.  Any help?  I don't remember what I did to disable it.

Answer:I need help re-enabling bluetooth

Welcome to the Forum! What is the full 7-digit type/model number on the back of your laptop? (For example, 7661-LP3). Do not post your S/N (Serial Number). Assuming you have Hotkeys installed, <FN> + <F5> allows you to toggle your wireless radios on and off. If <FN> + <F5> doesn't bring up a dialogue such as this, then I can explain further how to install Hotkeys:  As you can see, I also keep Bluetooth off to conserve battery and for security. I only turn it on when necessary.

i was following a few guides on how to optomize XP for audio recording and one of the steps was changing in the device manager under Computer, the ACPI to "Standard PC" to cause a change in how IRQs are handled, well I dont think it helped me at all and I want to go back to ACPI but how the guide says to reset it isnt working for me (says to update driver, choose driver manually, and select ACPI) but my computer only shows me "Standard PC" and I cannot uninstall it or anything to change it.. any ideas except for a reinstall? also, is there any easy way to reset all of Xp's services back to defaults?

Answer:Need help re enabling ACPI

I think to goto ACPI you might have to reinstall, but uninstalling it and reinstalling it at boot may work, but I dunno if it would boot right by doing that!

The driver wont be on your hard drive cuz it used the standard PC, but it should be on the CD, might wanan try the udpate driver thing and manually find it on the CD?

I didn't know quite where to put this query but.... I have an Intel DG43NB board which the BIOS settings have an option to enable UEFI. Now I have tried enabling it but am not getting anything happen just a black screen which a white cursor travels down until the machine boots.

So does one have to install some sort of software - have had a Google but cannot find any definitive answers so anyone give me a hint please?

There are two ways to install Windows when using that motherboard, or any motherboard that supports UEFI.

1. Install Windows normally, just like you always have.
2. Install Windows 7 x64 under UEFI.

In order to install it, you enable UEFI in your BIOS, and you boot your Windows 7 x64 DVD in UEFI mode. Check out the guide:

When I go to websites, for example www.victoriassecret.com and try to click on an item and then click on "larger view, back view, side view, etc" tabs I get "javascript void" and my PC cannot bring the link up for me to get a good look at what I would be buying.

I have Windows XP. I turned off any pop up blockers. My IE is 6.0 and my java is version 5.1.3810, both very updated. When I went to a website recommended on another thread with a similar problem I see my browser is not Javascript enabled but is Java Applet enabled. The link I tested it out on is...http://www.bodo.com/javame.htm

How can I get the javascript enabled? Thanks!

Answer:enabling javascript

First try this in your address bar and see if you get an alert box with IE's useragent info.

javascript:alert(navigator.userAgent);

Then make sure you don't have any Norton products filtering your pages.

Then, you have to adjust your settings for each security zone.

In IE, click on tools->options.

Under the security tab, if you set internet zone to media and click apply, javascript should be enabled for all sites.

However, to be extra safe, it's better to keep/set the internet zone to high, set the trusted sites zone to medium and add sites to the trusted zone that you want to allow javascript for.

Specifically, click on the 'sites' button for the trusted zone. Uncheck 'require server....', and add your trusted sites to the list.

And just for extra info, you should block all cookies except trusted ones.

Under the privacy tab, click 'advanced'.
check 'override cookies'
check 'block' for bother 3rd party and first party
keep 'always allow session cookies' unchecked

Then, back on the privacy tab, click on the 'sites' button and add the sites you want to allow cookies for.

Back on the security tab, make sure the restricted sites zone is on high and unless it has and negative effects, also set the local intranet to high.

Then, on the privacy tab, make sure you check 'block popups' and then click on the 'settings' button to add the sites you want to allow popups... Read more

Hi guys,

The problem I am having is a bit tricky. Its about the question that people have asked hundreds of time about enabling DMA under windows XP. Well a few months back I was trying to enable DMA, but it just wasnt working out. Then I changed the drivers of my IDE Controller from Microsoft drivers to Intel drivers and DMA got enabled.

Now I used Nero Info Tool (was having some problems with my CD Drive). The output I am getting is in the picture below (q1.jpg) It shows that on one of my HDDs, on the 80GB (Operating drive), DMA is enabled. But on my 250 GB drive DMA is not enabled.

Now all the online articles about DMA say that in the Device manager you have to go to the Primary Channel, Click on Properties and Advanced Settings to enable DMA. I am adding another screenshot of that Properties window (q2.jpg). It does not have the Advanced Settings Tab at all!! Any ideas?

Things I tried/ checked:

Ensured that the data cables were 80 conductor cables
Uninstalled the channel and re-booted so that windows would detect it again and enable DMA/ show the Advanced Settings dialog box.

I tried all possible options, but theres no way of doing this. So either the Nerocheck tool is reporting it wrongly or I do not know the solution. I tried using the DMACheck utility (which is actually meant for Windows NT 4.0), but it did not work.

hey i was wondering how to enable SSI (server side includes) in apache server .

Answer:enabling SSI in apache

To enable SSI processing, you need to

Build your server with the mod_include module. This is normally compiled in by default.
Make sure your server configuration files have an Options directive which permits Includes.
Make sure that the directory where you want the SSI documents to live is covered by the "server-parsed" content handler, either explicitly or in some ancestral location. That can be done with the following AddHandler directive:
AddHandler server-parsed .shtml
This indicates that all files ending in ".shtml" in that location (or its descendants) should be parsed. Note that using ".html" will cause all normal HTML files to be parsed, which may put an inordinate load on your server.

I regularly use iTunes and because I *don't* have an iPod I disable the iPod Service in Administrative tools > Services. This is because I have enough services and background processes starting up automatically on boot-up and I am trying to keep the number down. When I reboot the next time, the iPodservice.exe service is *automatically* changed to manual and is actually running as in the Processes section of Windows Task Manager I can actually see it listed there! It's not a big deal as it only takes a second or two to disable but the reason why I am posting this is because it is the *first* time I have ever seen this happen as normally when I set a service to disabled it stays disabled and it doesn't enable itself automatically!Does anyone know *why* this happens or how to permanently disable the service? Thanks.

Answer:iPodService keeps enabling itself in WTM

WinXP Pro Registry key for this file is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Userdata\S-1-5-18\Components\E141724DB89E22. The usual path is C:\Program files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe. There is also a reference to the file in the registry for programs that run at startup/ Login. The registry entry is located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. I feel that any program with a path that includes both "install" and " User Data" ;runs in the backgound and requires registry editing to disable is suspicious.

Hi!  I hate to ask such a noob question with a first post, but here it goes.  I just bought an ideapad Y730, model 200010, and I've tried to enable a second hard drive.  It did not come with a second drive but the bay opens and there are Sata hard drive connectors at the other end of the bay.  I have a drive that will work in a toaster but does not either connect (though, at start up I could feel something spinning at that place) or is not recognized.  I am just putting the hard drive in- no cage or anything else.  The drive is a Western Digital WD5000BEVT.  It looks like I have to install it sticker side down based on the architecture of the drive bay.  (I guess the other question is can the system handle 3 drives- two internal and one in a toaster?) Product ConfigurationParts information Quantity   WTN Y730 17WX(AG) BB W/BTQ AMD512 US [1]   Delta 135W 19V 7.11A Adapter [1]   LINETEK LS15+SPT-2+LP-30B Power Cord [1]   Optiarc AD-7560S RAMBO ODD [1]   Hard Drive ( 250G ) [1]   Intel 5100N MOW_AP M PCIE NB WLAN(LI) [1]   Memory ( 1024M ) [2]   Processor ( Intel T3200 2.00G )Thanks!

Question: enabling printer

I hope someone can help me. I am having problem with my printer. When I try to print, a message "There was an error found when printing the document ' ' to LPT1. When I checked the device manager, I saw that my printer port had an exclamation mark on it.

I then checked the properties of the printer and saw that it had an error (Code 29), "This device is disabled because the firmware of the device did not give it the required resources."

I checked all the tabs to see if there was an enable button and I even used the Window 2000 troubleshooter, but to no avail.

My question is how do I allocate resources or enable the printer so that it will not give me the "Code 29"?

Greetings. I have a AMD FX-60 Dual core CPU.

The machine I have it installed in was running XP SP1a fine. Both cores detected and worked fine.

I have upgraded this machine to XP SP2, and now one of the cores has been disabled.

The BIOS shows both cores.
Task Manager only shows one core graph.
Device Manager only has one CPU (I believe it should have two).
The registry (where I can tell) seems to have info on both cores.
CPU-ID identifies only one core operational.
AMD Power Monitor advises either the BIOS or OS has disabled core.

I cannot find any information about how to get/tell XP to enable the second core.

Performance is driving me batty, and I may just reinstall XP SP1a.

Suggestions I'm open to, but I've googled for a long time on this one.

Answer:XP SP2 not enabling both CPU cores

I recently rebooted my computer today because of a virus. I re-installed everything i needed but needed some things that were in my card reader/flash drive. So i plugged it in and it doesn't install correctly just like my web cam with a USB. I checked some other forums that popped up on google and they told me to open device manager and USB properties. Then they told me to enable "Write Caching" on all of them. i did as it said. It froze for a while and then i opened up task manager and forced it to close. I then went back to check it and they all had little red X's on them so i clicked properties and saw that i couldn't enable the other folder action that was on it, after i clicked properties. It is not disabled and i have tried disabling and enabling manually and it still doesn't work. I am running on Windows XP SP2.

I would appreciate any help at all, and will give any information needed.

Answer:USB Disabled (not enabling)

Assuming you have USB2; If you installed XP with no service packs, then installed SP2, you'll need to remove the USB controllers from device manager and restart your computer for it to re-detect them.

Hi folks,

this is not a problem which am facing. this is more of a general problem which i have seen on my parents' or friends' PC.

how to enable the WZC permanently in windows XP? the problem which i have seen - we can enable WZc from the services menu by making the service automatic and starting the service, but after a restart the wireless card utility becomes active and it disables the WZC automatically.

One of the solution which i came across is if i disable the wireless card utility from the utility window and go through the process of enabling WZC as mentioned earlier, it will get disabled after a restart. but this, at times, is pretty confusing and complicated as some utilities will never give u an option to disable itself.

hopefully you will be able to give some solution to fix this... any special command or even a magic wand will do ..

thanks in advance

Answer:Permanently enabling WZC

hi again...

no one has any clue about this?

Go to Tools and select Internet Options. Click the Privacy Tab and make sure the Default button is selected and the Setting scroll bar is set to medium. Click Sites and type the site URL that you would like to Allow.

If that doesn't work, try using another browser such as Google Chrome.

To clarify. Not BitLocker. Again, because people will talk about how BitLocker is only available in Windows 8 Pro, I am talking about EFS (Encrypting File System). Different than BitLocker.

Ok, so in previous versions of Windows to encrypt a file/folder you simply needed to right-click > properties > (general tab) click advanced > check "encrypt contents to secure data" and the deed was done. I know that you cannot simultaneously encrypt and compress files/folders, so that's not the problem. I just want to know how to turn on that feature becasue EFS offered some great functionality that I would like to have back.

I am using the regular (no-pro) version of Windows 8 on a single hard drive, no storage pool strangeness going on here.

Again; no, the files/folders are not compressed and I am not talking about BitLocker.

Answer:Enabling EFS in Windows 8?

Hello AJ, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Unfortunately, EFS is only available in the Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8 Enterprise editions.

Hi guys,

Anytime I connect to VPN with a laptop, it blue screens within 10 minutes. We have reinstalled the VPN client and wireless card. There is only 1 VPN installed on the machine. In the attached reports, you may see the wireless card is not installed, as I am in the processes of re-installing it (again). If this is an issue let me know and I will run the reports again with the card installed.

If you need any more information from me please let me know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

Question: enabling hdmi

I have an acer aspire laptop (vista) and want to use the hdmi for secondary video. The display properties won't do it and it won't enable automatically when connected. How do I do this? thanks

Answer:enabling hdmi

Boot into Bios and make sure HDMI is enabled. Then, depending on the type of Video card you may have, there should be an Icon for the display in your System Tray next to the clock, either the nVidia Display or ATI Control Center. There you can choose to either enable mirror display or Extend your Desktop across 2 monitors. You can also access it in the Display properties in the Control Panel.
