32-bits vs 64-bits Microsoft Office Updates

Question: 32-bits vs 64-bits Microsoft Office Updates

I have a 64 bit HP pavilion laptop. When windows update shows me new updates for a 32 bit MS office, do I download them even though I'm running a 64 bit laptop or just the 64 bit MS office download improvements?

Preferred Solution: 32-bits vs 64-bits Microsoft Office Updates

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: 32-bits vs 64-bits Microsoft Office Updates

If you don't have 32-bit Office, you don't need need any 32-bit Office updates. The 32-bit Office updates are not compatible with 64-bit Office anyway.message edited by phil22

Hello Tech Support Guy Nation,

So I have an issue with getting a laptop hooked onto the router signal. The router is a brand spankin new Linksys EA4500 and the laptop is an IBM which is running Win XP (not sure of SP version as it is a customer's comp. at a hotel I run). Anyway, the error message I am encountering is:

The network password needs to be 40 bits r 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters

At first I thought is was my router password since it contained a $ symbol so I changed it to only letters and numbers but still didn't work. I have never encountered this error message on any laptops and no other rooms have been affected. Thank you as always for the the knowledge...

Answer:Solved: Error Message:"The network password needs to be 40 bits r 104 bits depending.

You are using WPA or WPA2 encryption and the laptop--because of the lack of at least service pack 2, incorrect wireless driver, or old wireless adapter--does not support WPA(2).

my desktop is Dell XPS 730. it currently using Vista 32 bits. Everything runs very slow and none of games are runnable due frames dropping, skipping, and freezing even after I installed new Hard Drive. I decided upgrade to Windows 7 64 bits would help with running minecraft game without issue.

I downloaded Windows 7 USB DVD download tool and Windows 7 64 bits ISO. it installed into flash drive successful but it came with bootsect error. So I looked around for it and found here 32-Bit BootSect

I downloaded "bootsect7600x86.zip". I right clicked and clicked on Properties and clicked unblock then applied and clicked ok. Then opened and I only find Bootsect exe file, nothing else. so I clicked that and command prompts came up and disappeared really instant and nothing ever happened. What am I missing? I also need Window 7 64 bits for my laptop after new HDD arrive. Just needed to make USB bootable somehow.

EDIT: I did right clicked on that exe file and did not see "run as admin"

EDIT2: Forgot to add, do I need to have product key code? Im upgrading my desktop from vista 32 bit to windows 7 64 bit

Answer:Upgrade to Windows 7 home perm 64 bits from Vista 32 bits

The term is bit, not bits

Use WintoBootic to put the iso on the flash drive, it works perfectly everytime.

WiNToBootic bootable usb drive windows vista/7/8 - Bootable USB | Bootable USB

Where are you downloading the iso from, I would download it again and check the size when you`re done.

This is a rather unsual error message from Windows 7, that cannot even run 16-bits programs, quote:

"Too many other files are currently in use by 16-bit programs. Exit one or more 16-bit programs, or increase the value of files in your Config.sys file."

The only time that this issue shows up is when trying to run a program as administrator from within my standard user account. The "Run as..." could be initiated either manually, or by running a program that requires elevated access rights to the system, such as starting an installation as a standard user.

The error is seemed to be triggered by the UAC, or more accurately the "consent.exe" file that actually locks up the screen and nothing can be accessed. It seems that the system is waiting for input for the UAC, clicking anywhere on the screen results in the typical error sound but nothing else. The "ctrl-alt-del" does bring up a list, selecting log out pops up the quoted error message during the logoff process. Logging back in with the same UID seems normal, until the "Run as..." initiated and the system seems locked again. Rebooting the system clears up this error, but it does come back in an irregular interval. The timeframe could be from an hour, or more, on some days it does not come back at all.

While Windows 7 64-bit does not have a "config.sys" file, one has been added to "C:\" that contains:

Answer:16-bits program error message in 64-bits W7...

Well, having the "config.sys" file did not help. The system still have the same issues as posted earlier. Removing EMET 3.5 didn't help either...

Other than the "Run as...", the system works fine with any other programs. While I could grant administrator access to my user account, I'd prefer not to do it.

Would anyone have an idea what could cause this issue?

Hey,
as the title says, I find myself in a dilema..

It started when I decided I wanted to put a total of 4GB of RAM in my computer. The problem is that I have Windows XP x86 (32-bits) installed.
Then, a few friends of mine adviced me to get rid of this old Windows XP (32-bits), get the total of 4GB of RAM and install Windows 7 x64.

My CPU's architecture supports x64 systems, as I have 4 cores. My main problem, is that I would have to reinstall all my programs, applications and drivers (because I have the 32-bits-versions installed) and that if I stay with my 32-bits-XP system, it would only read 3 to 3.5GB of RAM aprox.

In response to this, a friend told me that Windows 7 x64 wouldn't cause compatibility issues with those 32-bit programas, applications and drivers. However, if I'd like to get the best performance, I would have to download/get the x64-compatible-versions..

To sum it up, I would really like if you experts could help me and get me out of this dilema. Is it true what my friends mentioned me? Should I change and get the new Windows 7 x64? Which would be the downsides and which the upsides?

I would also like to mention that I am a still and motion graphics designer, and that the latest softwares for that (for instance all Adobe CS4) have come out x64.This would definitely be a plus if I change to Windows 7 x64, right?

Thank you very, very much.. Really.
Best regards,
Chris.

I installed Autocad 2010 in window 7(64 bits). I couldn't install because Autocad software software is 32 bits. Window 7 is 64 bits. So it couldn't not install. So I would like to know how to install 32 bits software in 64 bits window 7.

Answer:how to install 32 bits software in 64 bits window 7

32 bit software will run on 64 bit Windows 7 without any special steps being taken. Windows 7 64 bit actually maintains a 32 bit registry in order to accommodate 32 bit programmes. If you cannot install Autocad the problem is likely to be something more that the 32/64 bit difference. There is the possibility that it wouldn't even install on 32 bit Widows 7 and it is the OS itself that is the problem. You need to contact Autocad and see what they say about the problem, after all they know there own software better than anyone else.Stuart

Hello Dare2winnn,

It's recommended to use a 64-bit AV program on a 64-bit OS for full protection. Some 32-bit AV programs will not install on a 64-bit OS.

I just use the included Windows Defender.

Hope this helps,

Can someone explain these figures to me? Im talking about 8 Bits/channel in terms of imagery and pictures. I dont really get these. Is it the smaller the number, the better the picture? And, I heard that there are also different colour channels? Like Red and Blue channels, are these just the channels in which the computer can read and identify? And what about 48 bit colour? Is that in the same category as 8 Bits/channel? Or is it something totally different.I need to know more about colours.Thanks.

Answer:48 bits 16 bits 8 Bits Channel.

Essentially, bits per channel represents colour depth, the higher the bits per channel, the higher the range of distinct colours. This should explain better than I could click hereAnd when your finished reading that click here for answers to your colour channels query.

The network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.

This is the error message I keep receiving whilst trying to connect a windows xp laptop onto a netgear router. Using Intel Pro/wireless 2200BG network connection.

I already have a macbook which connects fine as do my friends laptops when they come over. The laptop in question has worked before on this router with no issues, however, this is no more!!!

I think I might need to amend some setting to choose WPA but I can't figure out how to do it!!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,
I am facing this problem:
If I open any MS-Word document as Administrator (the compatibility of MS-Word was set to "Run as Administrator") I receive this error message: There was a problem sending the command to the program. But if I open just the MS-Word Application and from the File/Open I open any document, the document is opened successfully.
If the compatibility of MS-Word is set to not "Run as Adminstrator" and I double-click any word document in the windows explorer the document is also opened successfully.
Can anyone help me how to solve this problem?

Answer:Office 2007 in Windows 7 64 bits as Administrator

Hello maymoned, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You could try repairing your Office 2007 installation providing you have the installation DVD.

How to install the individual 2007 Office features or to repair the installed 2007 Office programs

How to use the repair process in the 2007 Office programs

Failing that, you could try uninstalling the application, and then re-installing it.

I've just installed both versions of Windows 7, 32-bit and 64-bit, through Parallels 8 on a Mac running Lion. Next step: installing Office 2010, Home & Student Edition. It works in 32-bit Windows 7, but I only tried this after it failed in 64-bit Windows 7, which is the OS I'd prefer to run.

In 64-bit Windows 7, the Office installation disk does not autorun (but it does in 32-bit Win). When I navigate to the setup.exe files (for 32-bit, 64-bit, and apparently 86-bit), clicking on them always results in the "Not a valid Win32 application" message and I can go no further. Clicking on the autorun file results in Notepad attempting to open the file for editing (FYI, Notepad fails because it says the file is too big).

I selected the same options for both Windows installations. What can I do to make 64-bit Windows 7 properly install Office? Why isn't it working?

Thanks!

Answer:Can't install Office 2010 (any # of bits) in Windows 7 (64-bit)

I identified the problem, and it was related to Parallels rather than to Windows. Mysteriously, in the Parallels "Devices" menu, my DVD drive had been disabled (but the DVD was still visible within the Windows interface). I re-enabled it and was able to install Office no problem.

i guys, this is 1st post on these forums, which i like a lot, especially the reviews, but anyways im having a hard time to decide which OS im gonna run on my new rig.....i already have all the components......what i do usually with my pc's is encode dvd's and audio....and especially i play games a lot.
these are my spec:

CPU: q6600 g0 stepping
MOBO: EVGA 680i NF68T1
VIDEO CARDS: EVGA 8800gts 640mb ( im waiting for the other one to run SLI )
HDD: WD Raptor 150 GB SATA Hard Drive ( for booting and for all my software ) and a WD SATA 2 500 GB for storage
RAM: Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB(2 x 2GB) ddr2 800mhz

i know i have to be on a 64 bits OS ( cause im using 4gigs on ram ) but im trying to decide which one ?
i have been researching this for a lot of time, and still i cant decide.....i have been reading that vista lets the government spy on your pc, that uses a lot of ram when its on idle, compatibility issues, not stable.........and about xp 64 bits, we all know that xp is already the past and that we gotta move to new things but i like to hear from the experts on this community what do you think ? do you have any recommendations, any thoughts ?

thanks in advance for all your help

Please forgive me if this had been posted before. I searched here and didn't learn enough in the previous posts. So here is my inquiry.

Been using Vista Home Premium for a while with no problem. However, I now have a copy of retail Ultimate 64 bits. I read that there are many benefits besides being able to see all 4Gig of rams with 64 bits. As the process only be done by clean installation, I would like to know how, if I can at all, to back up all the stuffs that I've been using so I can "restore" after I switch to 64 bit instead of redo everything. I'll be greatly appreciate if you can explain to me step by step.

My US Robotic dial up modem only has 32 bits driver; please suggest a good one that work with 64 bits.

Please let me know anything significant I need to know before I switch?

Thank you!

Answer:Need help in 32 bits to 64 bits switching...

Hi Bruce2,

Welcome to the forum.

Since you are switching from 32 bit to 64 bit Vista, the safest route is to just backup any files you do not want to lose to a CD/DVD. You can just transfer them back when done installing the 64 bit. There is just to much of a difference to do a complete backup and restore between the two bit version with your programs and installers.

If you would like to make it even easier, have all of your programs and 64 bit drivers installation files on DVD as well.

Hello, I am trying to clean up a computer. I went to do a Windows update and noticed that the computer hasn't been able to update since 2010. The error code that I searched on google which is 80246008, in an old Microsoft forum post showed that this could be a sign of potential malware if you are unable to start the BITS service. I have already done multiple scans such as rkill, tsdkiller in safe mode. I also did a Malwarebytes scan with their techbench product as well as a scan with roguekiller and a Kaspersky scan. If it would help I can give more information on the details of those scans. However, I am still not able to start the BITS service so I am wondering if there is something hiding that is disguised so as not to be found by a scan.  Scan result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) (x64) Version:01-12-2015Ran by Brian (administrator) on BRIAN-PC (03-12-2015 15:41:48)Running from C:\Users\Brian\DownloadsLoaded Profiles: Brian (Available Profiles: Brian & Mcx1-BRIAN-PC)Platform: Windows 7 Ultimate (X64) Language: English (United States)Internet Explorer Version 8 (Default browser: Chrome)Boot Mode: NormalTutorial for Farbar Recovery Scan Tool: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/335081-frst-tutorial-how-to-use-farbar-recovery-scan-tool/ ==================== Processes (Whitelisted) ================= (If an entry is included in the fixlist, the process will be closed. If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Also...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

Answer:16 to 8 bits.

Do you have a systems setup CD supplied with your motherboard / computer, try re-installing your board drivers first-If the CD is not available go to click here to locate the correct drivers OR /ANDGo to control panel, select AUDIO, select HARDWARE, and scroll down to your video settings, from there you should be able to check the video & audio settings in your system,(or you could use BELARC [Free program]to see if there is an update for your system.

Now i have instaled the 64 bits version, and it works great, but i had a very hard time finding the drivers...i can't find o godd part of them...if you can help me in any way, thanks very much...p.s. it can't fiid the 'base sistem device'...you know better then me,wish you the best...

Read this.
64bit - x64 - What is 64 bit? Beginners’ guide
From the article:
"32-bit systems have a basic problem. Every part of a 32-bit microprocessor relies on the 32-bit technology. That is, not only the quantity of simultaneously managed information equals to 32 bits, but the system also handles the memory in 32-bit units (this operation is called memory addressing). If you install each and every update patch on your Windows XP operating system, it will almost take 256 MB of the memory. If you also want to use professionally set up firewall and anti-virus programs, that memory capacity will be too little, and your system will slow down considerably. The conclusion: convenient and safe solution of an average task requires a memory capacity of 512 MB today. In the case of gamers even 1 GB of memory is not considered to be too much. With the release of Windows Vista, this memory requirement will double because the operating system, which includes a great number of new features, requires 512 MB memory by default. If we install a firewall and an anti-virus program, even that will not suffice, which means that providing a safe and convenient environment for doing some ordinary work with the computer will require 1 GB of memory, and more than that (about 1.5-2 GB) for gamers. And with that, we have come to big issue: 32-bit processors cannot address more than 4 GB of memory due to the above-mentioned, somewhat more than 4 billion available combinations. The average r... Question: 64 or 32 bits

What could be the consequences of installing Windows 7 (64 bits) in a computer which is for 32 bits. The reason is that I've got a desktop which has 32 bits and a laptop which has 64 bits and I want to install (Windows 7--64 bits)in both. I want Windows 7 64 Bits which I am told is faster than the 32 bits. Can it work?

Answer:64 or 32 bits

The CPU in the PC must have 64 bit support built-in or the installation of 64 bit Windows will not be possible. As for performance you will only notice a difference if you install a lot of RAM, ie 4GB plus, and run software that can fully utilise that much RAM.

in reference to threads likethis, what is the deal with cpu and gpu technology data?

Cpu's are only next year comming out with 64bit processors, but gpu's had 128bit processors back in 1999. what's the difference?

Answer:what bits? 32/64/128/256?

I may be wrong, but this is my take on the bit system:

A bit is one of the smallest measures of file size in the computer industry. Most internet connections are measured in kilobit- 1,000 bits. Such as 28.8k. You should notice that you don't actually download at 28.8 kilobytes, as downloaders measure, but rather 3.6 kilobytes, which is the equivalent of 28.8 kilbits. A byte is 8 bits, and 28.8 divided by 8 is 3.6. To measure a bit, it is one normal character, i.e. not ASCII, be it a number, letter, sign, etc. A byte is an 8 letter word.
But, in relation to computer processors, I think the default '32-bit' architecture partains to how much information is calculated on every clock cycle, either 32 or 64 bits at once.* An operating system also runs with this architecture, which is why you hear about the 64-bit version of Windows XP. 64-bit architecture is backwards compatible with 32-bit, but 32 bit cannot run any 64-bit optimized architecture.
As for the 128-bit GPUs, I think you may be out of context, but I really can't explain that.

I think I butchered that. I never really learned about the bit architecture system, and these are all just logical assumptions. I would gladly enjoy someone who would explain it to me better/correctly

*I'm really not sure about that.

Question: Why 64 bits?

This is probably a question difficult to answer, hope you guys will have a go anyway...

Will the general feel of my Windows 7 Ultimate be faster in 64 bits?
It was often said that this goes for a limited quantity of programs only.

Are there any serious pitfalls?
Like (groups of) software that will stop working?

I have a PC, a Netbook and a Notebook on a mixed LAN/WLAN network.
I am very happy with my setup, and I tweaked my PC's Core Duo to almost 4 GHz so it's running pretty fast, but some more speed can't hurt...

Answer:Why 64 bits?

Much like this thread says, http://www.sevenforums.com/general-d...omparison.html, unless you're using 64-bit apps with 4 GB of RAM or more, you may not notice any tangible performance difference.

Hello,i would like to know if i can change win7 32bits for a win 7 64bits with my computer.I have 8Go of memories and with the 32bits i can take only 3,5Go.Thanks for your answer.

Answer:32 bits or 64 bits

Hello Michel, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Please fill in and update your system specs (click on link). What type of hardware (ex: CPU supports 64-bit) will play a big part in whether your system will run 64-bit Windows 7 or not. Most do these days, but we must be sure.

For now, you will have to do a clean reinstall to go from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows 7.

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

Answer:how much is 4 gig a bits

You mean it had 4 gigs of RAM, which is memory. Hard drives that store your data are much larger than that. You can google for the difference in the two if you're confused. If the new computer had 4 gigs of ram, it probably had Windows 7 64 bit operating system on it. Windows 7 32 bit can only use around 3.5 gigs.

Hello,

I just noted that my Toshiba U300 laptop had a 32 bits operating system. It's now Windows 10 that I got with the free upgrade. My question : what's the easiest way to do a free W10 64 bits clean install ?

More details ... When I bought this laptop, it had Vista installed with 2Gb memory, which explains the 32 bits windows. It's now 4 Gb memory. I then upgraded to W8 with the pre order deal which gave me an upgrade product key. I never noted this was a 32 bits. If it's not too complex, I'd like to move to 64 bits.

I called Microsoft and they told me I had to go back to W8 as it's the only product key I have. Will I be able to clean install W8.1 from W10 with an upgrade key or will I have to restore the laptop to W8.1 and then clean install W8.1 64 bits ?

Is there a way to go directly to W10 64 bits clean install ? I had in mind that Microsoft was keeping the information as this laptop was allowed to use W10 without having to enter the key. If it's not the case, the free W10 upgrade could mean big troubles for a lot of people in the future when they want to touch the OS.

Thanks J Guy

Answer:W10 32 bits to 64 bits

All you have to do is clean install the same version and edition of Windows 10 64-bit. Skip entering a product key when asked. It will activate itself based on the digital entitlement now stored on Microsoft activation servers.

Version = Home, Pro, Education, Enterprise, etc.
Edition = "regular" Windows 10, "N" edition, Single Language edition.

If you don't have your Windows 8 product key written down, I would run showkey plus from this forum first to retrieve it and write it down - just in case.

Answer:AOL bits

You will have to remove AOL through Add/remove programs and then I would suggest you run a program to clean the registry. I like Ccleaner for that. It will remove any orphaned registry entries. When you run Ccleaner, go to the Issues tab and scan for issues. Click fix selected issues and create the backup when prompted.

Hi,

I do lots of diagrams, for my own use, and i want to make parts
of them 'clickable', to give a more detailed diagram.

Bringing up another window would be fine.

What would be the easiest way to do this?
I had a look at 'Word' but it seemed a bit difficult to me.

Is there a way to make a bit of a Bitmap clickable ?
That would suit me, cos most of my diagrams are bitmaps.

Any suggestions on how to achieve this easily ... ?

Hi folks,
Wonder if someone can help me with an upgrade question. I'm currently running the following system:

Elite Group ECS K7S5A mobo
Athlon AMD 1800XP+ CPU
512MB DDR RAM
Seagate 120GB HD
64MB Geforce MX420 graphics card
Win 2K Pro

I've got around £300 to spend, and want to improve this system. It's a bit unstable at the moment (I've heard about some issue with this particular CPU/mobo combination?) - the BIOS often resets itself. Also, I now have a 2.6Gig PC at work, and the difference in speed is getting frustrating!!

So, what I'm presuming is that the best way to spend my money would be to buy a faster CPU. But, presumably, that would also mean upgrading my mobo?

Most of the time, I use my PC for work, running multiple applications etc.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to run the odd game on the system as well, so I'm thinking maybe the graphics card could do with upgrading?

Any recommendations??

this crash was caused by tcpip.sys.

I would run a system file check to erify and repair your system files to do that
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow
I would also check for updatednetwork driver.

Operating System Support. The PAE kernel is not enabled by default for systems that can support more than 4 GB of RAM.
To boot the system and utilize PAE memory, the /PAE switch must be added to the corresponding entry in the Boot.ini file. If a problem should arise, Safe Mode may be used, which causes the system to boot using the normal kernel (support for only 4 GB of RAM) even if the /PAE switch is part of the Boot.ini file.

Hi,

I know it's a random question but my XP system has undergone a bit of beating from viruses recently and it's taken my ability to update on microsoft away...

Where could I find BITS, just literally the bare naked version? If not, is there a useful piece of software that could help put some of my windows files back...(my Paint and Character Map has also gone, randomly)?

Thanks

Answer:Where can I find BITS 1.0, just on its own?

Might be a long shot, but maybe an OEM installation of Win2000.

Sounds like you've encountered a lot of system file damage from the infection(s), I would recommend a repair installation which should correct any corrupt or missing Windows files. This would not affect your personal files, but you will need an OEM installation CD-ROM.

Answer:windows 64 bits

howdy Leduc,

If you right click the "my computer" Icon and click properties it will tell you right in that window what version you are using..

As for which one is better? That depends. If you are using a 64 bit cpu like an AMD 64 then the 64 it will work. If not then it will not work. Another easy way is to know what type of cpu you have. If it is not a 64 bit cu then you cannot have a 64 bit os..

What type of cpu do you have?

Answer:Upgrade from Win 7 x86 to Win 7 64-bits

From the technical point of view, there is no upgrade path from x86 to x64.  You need to clean install the x64 OS. From a sales point of view, when you buy certain versions of Windows 7, you get both the x86 and x64 disks.  I don't believe all of the SKUs have both disks.  If Windows 7 didn't come with your machine, your best bet is to shop around for the best price.

I wiped the empty space with CCleaner and another eraser. That went fine, but there's still a little info that remains. When I open the drives, no files show as existing, but when I right click on their respective letters in "My Computer," it shows a few MB of used space on each partition. Then when I access them via one of Glary's utilities, file shredder I think, it shows that there are indeed some specific folders and files. There are a few desktop.ini files and a couple of system restores or restore points and something else. Glary doesn't give the option to delete them, and it's the only program that I've tried so far that even shows their existence.

Any ideas on what I could do, either manually or via software, to nuke these last few MB from the previous owner? Thanks!

Answer:Trying to erase last bits off HD

Right-click (My) Computer and select Manage > Disk Management.

Now look for your external drive and delete all the partitions. Once that's done, create (a) new partition(s) to your own specifications, format and allocate a Drive letter.

How to use Disk Manager (XP but Vista/W7 are very similar).

Question: new bits advice

I am in the process of upgrading... have so far done PSU, RAM, Case, HD, Soundcard,...

I am due to get money for christmas as that is what I have asked for from my relatives when they asked what I wanted. I dont expect to get a huge amount of money so will probably put some in myself towards these upgrades.

I want to get a new Mobo, Processor and Graphics card

I have been looking at the following:

Asus K8V SE Deluxe (socket 754, VIA K8T800, Serial ATA150 RAID, AGP 8x, ATX, 3xDIMM, USB 2.0, FireWire, sound, Gigabit LAN)

AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Socket 754

GeForce PCX6600GT 256MB PCI-E DVI-I VO <-- I wanna have decent graphics for a change... is this card anygood or should I fork out for the 6800 series?

Thing is am a bit out of touch these days and dont know how good these items are... if anyone has any ideas or alternatives or anything, I would really appreciate the input... I want to have a kick arse system and dont want to rush in and buy naff parts like I have in the past (Yay... 2 burned out PSUs, 1 burned out mobo, 1 destroyed grfx card and a fried soundcard... due to a PSU being faulty.. Now I dont buy cheap, I try to buy quality and nothing has burned out on me for at least 2 years (touch wood) well apart from my old deathstar that just died)

Answer:new bits advice

6600 is good to go, newer and higher core clocks (50Mhz higher than 6800, this i'm talking about 6600GT version).

and rather K8V, get A8V mobo and 939 pin processor (lowest u can find).

* keep in mind while buying the vga card, that A8V supports AGP bus rather than PCI-E. so get the video card with AGP bus (weather its 6600 or 6800)

(or), wait until january/february, as VIA are coming with K8T890 chipset for PCI-E platforms, and this will as well be future safe. so most recommended.

Question: Bits and bytes

I don't really understand what allocation size ment when I format my jumpdrives or any other type of storage I just leave that alone. Is is better to leave it at default or at 512,1024,2048,4096 bytes. Is there any type of gain for changing it from default.I figured to put this in hardware because it has to do with harddrives and jumpdrives, but I know it is just as much software.

Question: bits and bobs

Hey guys, i'm 15 and from the UK. I'm trying to learn computer hardware basics including how to build your own computer etc. My problem, i have no stuff apart from my beloved personal computer. Second problem, i have £0.00 to spend on parts.

All i want is basic stuff to help me learn how to, ie an old case etc and of course the electrical things.

If anybody can send me anything at all, i would be extremely greatful!

If you are able to help, please email me : [email protected]
Thanks,

Answer:bits and bobs

You might try volunteering at a local PC repair shop, your school's IT services, etc. I got my first experience (with hardware) by getting a job in the microcomputer lab at the college I was attending. You could try getting a paid job but might have better luck volunteering at first.

Hi all

I'm putting together a new PC and I've been doing a lot of research on the net and magazines for the best motherboard to compliment my gear.

The PC has to be as quiet as possible because I run my music through my Slimserver (best thing ever!) and the whine of my current PC is an annoyance. (The high pitched whine comes from the small fan on my MSI motherboard and the multiple fans on my Praetorian case.)

So far for my new PC I have bought:

Case: Antec P180
Pro: Core 2 Duo E6600
GCard: Inno3D Geforce 8800 320MB DDR3 PCI-E
Mem: 2GB G.Skill DDR2
Sound: Audigy 4 (This is from my old set up, I may as well keep it so I don't really need onboard sound)
Running Vista 32
Which motherboard would you recommend for that set up? Money is no object
but I don't want to waste money on things I don't really need or would ever use.
I'm not big on overclocking but would like the option to do so as simply as possible as I have no experience with it.

So far I'm thinking either one of these:

Asus P5K Deluxe
Asus Striker
Gigabyte GA-N680SLI
Nforce 680i SLI
Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (I won't really use the wifi it just has no onboard fans)
If anyone can recommend which MoBo to go for or recommend a different board entirely that'd be much appreciated:cool

Also I live in Sydney Australia so I'd really like to buy the board here just in case it needs to go back for any reason. So really I'm looking at not getting a board that'... Read more

Hi. I posted a long rambling thing a little while ago because I'm looking at a new laptop. Let me cut out all that stuff and get to one point I'm really curious about -- does 64 bits matter?

I know some people say this is just around the corner, but is it a revolution or just hype?

Obviously I am also curious whether there is a point in waiting to buy a new computer until Intel goes 64 bit -- but the computer I have now is ancient and can't run anything anymore, so I probably don't have that luxury.

Still, I wonder what 64 bits actually means. It's my feeling that 32 bits is doing a pretty decent job and going from 8 --> 16 and 16 --> 32 were the real revolutions. But maybe someone has a different take.

I have a laptop with Windows 7 x64 Home Premium and a big problem. Some pens are detected but not installed. It gives an error saying that installation failed. Other pens work nice and clean. Tested the pens that don't work on another computer (win xp) and they're working fine. Tested on another usb port and nothing.
Tried to update windows and still the problem persists. I tried to update the driver but it says the driver is the most recent. Should I make an repair? I really need some help here please.

Answer:Pen problems with Win 7 x64 bits

You're probably having issues with drivers. You're going to need to list the exact models of each of these products in order to get any real support. In the mean time make sure that you have the latest Windows 7 drivers for each device. Go to their manufacturer website and find the support/downloads section.

I have lots of family photos. I want to process them into categories (includes risising them but I have Firefox I can do that with). Once I have got them into folders (categorised) I want to load them online (google/facebook!) so others can see them AND download to make a dvd so they can see on TV. Or if they have a media centre stream them there. I have a Roxio program but that does not have upload capabilities. Slideshow mode would be nice for some of them but they may want to pick one or two out for prints.

Essentially I suppose some sort of cool up-2-date sharing method(s).

Thanks.

HiUsed computers for years but never altered things inside. As more viruses ect are coming, what is the best way to protect yourself.run win XP Sp2, Norton AV, P4, Using IE7 now.how to stop background progs running.THanks

Answer:what reg bits to turn off

Quote from: pohhop on July 18, 2008, 08:39:02 AMhow to stop background progs running.Which programs?Norton is okay but quite heavy on resources - when your subscription is about to run out, check back here for recommendations for free AV's. (Currently, I like Avast!: anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-rootkit: http://www.avast.com/eng/download.html) Never run more than one AV at a time. Run a scan weekly or, at least, monthly.I'm not familiar with "P4" - what is it?Firefox is a browser that many people believe is more secure than IE: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/To supplement the protection of your anti-virus, anti-spyware program consider: Spywareblaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html), Threatfire (http://www.threatfire.com/), SuperAntispyware (SAS) (http://www.superantispyware.com/). None of these should conflict with Norton. I would use the free version of SAS and scan at least monthly. This, of course, is just my opinion - keep checking back to see what other forum members think.Best of luck!EDIT: And be sure that you keep the OS patched and run a firewall - at least Window's firewall, Norton's, or Comodo (http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/)NEVER run more than one firewall at a time.

Hello All.
I use an online school website to attend online classes. I have been using IE 8 for a while and Windows Vista Home premium. My wife uses the same on her laptop, but a different log in name and password. Just last week, Everytime I type in my log in name and password on my laptop, it takes me back to the same screen, log in and password. But when I insert my wife's log in name and password, it accepts it and lets her in. I tried my log in name and password on her laptop and it accepted it. I downloaded Firefox, and it accepted my log in info.. In other words, it is only my log in infor that will not be accepted?

I cleared the cach, history, cookies. no good.
Help is appreciated

Answer:Log in in Vista 64 bits

Anybody would like to take a stab at this one? I still can not use IE to log in, I have to use FireFox! :eek

Question: BITS dilemna

Hi, I have Windows Vista Home Premium on a quad 4gig computer. I have now found that Windows automatic update has not been successful since 24/11/09. I suspect BITS files are corrupted [cant be started]. Also my Windows Media Player [11] has decided not to read some of my avi and other videos, at the same time - maybe connected. Qtime does play some of these.
I downloaded Microsoft BITS repair file, and it says it is not needed at this time. Also downloaded other pertinent Microsoft Vista files but are not for my system??? I have Norton 360 and that downloads automatically without problems.
How do I get the Windows update and Windows Media PLayer working ??
Diggicat

Answer:BITS dilemna

Has anyone else had this problem?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Question: Java 64 bits

Hi guysI have now a new computer with OS Windows 7 64 bits, and I am using IE8. I recently installed Java 32 bits without knowing that Java also have a 64 bits version. Should I replace my Java 32 bits version that i recently installed, by a 64 bits version? Or it doesn't make any difference at all which one of the Java version I am using. Thanks in advance

Answer:Java 64 bits

you need both. The 32-Bit Java runtime will be used by 32-bit browsers and other 32-bit applications that utilize java; the 64-bit runtime will be used vy 64-bit applications and other 64-bit applications that use java.

Question: Bits to bytes

I thought I was being ripped off with my 512 kbps adsl connection when my download speed was only 51.2 kilobytes per sec.

Enquiring to my ISP I was told that 512 kbps is kilobits not kilobytes per second.

So a 1 meg connection actually only gives a download speed of around a 100 kilobytes per sec.

Is this correct and is this the case in other countries. From Australia by the way.

Answer:Bits to bytes

I have a 6.1 Mbps connection which gives me about 630 KBs which is around 5Mbps. Dividing by ten looks reasonable as 1 byte=8 bits and there is overhead also, housekeeping as it were.
