I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm sorry, I didn't find dedicated forum section to my laptop model (ideapad 700-15, not Y700!).I'd like to clear my speaker grills, because they got dirty. Clearing them with compressed air did some job, but not enough, because I can apply it only to the middle of the grill. Are those grills integral part of the cover or they can be disassembled? If yes, how? Do i have to remove laptop screen to have that access?

My speakers were working fine, then I stepped away from my computer and neither is working now. The headphone jack works. But the left speaker just makes a popping noise. I've uninstalled and then reinstalled the drivers, but that did not fix the issue. I just bought this laptop a little over a month ago, so I'll be really disappointed if this is a hardware issue.

Hi All, My Lenovo U310 Ideapad Has been Having speaker problems, The Headphones are working fine but the Inbuilt speakers that are Awefully situated inbetween the hinge and the base of the Screen aren't working. First i thought that this was a issue with the headphone jack assembly that might have cut off the internal speaker circuit due to improper removal of the headphone jack but thats not true because I noticed that Its an Issue with the angle I keep my Screen's tilt. On moving the screen to any angle above 90 or 100 degrees the speakers get cut of and are activated once its below 80 degrees. I am a bit worried any words on that????? regards, raisedadead. THANKS A LOT IN ADVANCE!!!

I bought my laptop on 8th Feb 2014 from authorized Lenovo dealer. On Monday I was watching video on youtube on JBL speaker. After that I used Skype, for that I used Headphone. After my call I removed my headphone and continued my youtube video, but sound was not coming. Again I inserted the headphone, sound is coming only via headphone. But not through speaker. I contacted today (11/02/2014) to lenovo ideapad service centre. They told me to give the desktop access to troubleshoot the issue and they said speaker is not working. After that I asked them its under warranty and I should be given service. They simply disconnected the session and now on call also they are not supporting. Please help me to get this issue resolved.

Hi all, I just picked up an older z510 with win 8.1, really nice computer and a great upgrade from my previous setup. I do audio production work and I noticed while playing music from any application through the speakers it sounds very compressed. Compressed as in unwanted auto volume/gain adjustments, not mp3. Is there any way to turn this off? Can't do production audio with that in place. I looked through the windows sites but they all point to you guys. I've got the Realtek HD audio manager and the settings there don't do anything. I've also got this Onenote Theater thing and the settings there do change the sound but not the auto gain effect. I've also turned off the windows "feature" of turning down the volume when certain apps like Skype are used.  Not sure where else to look.

I have an Ideapad Z585 that is within warranty. A few days ago it started making a buzzing sound out of the right speaker and has since progressed to near total loss of functonality. I removed and replaced the drivers with Realteks most recent compatible set and then again with the ones contained in the recovery partition to no avail. I also booted into another os and was unable to get the speakers to work there. I strongly believe that there is a mechanical failure of some type, possibly due to a conectivity issue.I'm having a difficult time getting a hold of customer support over the phone and it seems the site itself doesn't have much in the way of support for my model of Ideapad. If someone could help guide me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Ideapad U430 Touch Right Speaker not working

hi tuck2103,

Im sorry to hear what happened,
This seemed to be a hardware concern,
If the system is still under warranty I suggest you call Lenovo Technical Support for assistance.

As an alternative you can check this Maintenance Manual for your system and check the internals like the Speaker Connector to the motherboard.

Hi, I just bought an Ideapad Y570 and i havent really done anything to it, but the sound is only coming out of the left speaker. I have done a sound test for both speakers and the right one still did not work. I would assume that the speaker itself is broken and that it is not a software issue. The being said, would installing the most current drivers do anything insisting the company is brand new? If so where do i find the correct driver?

Answer:Right speaker not working on my Lenovo Ideapad Y570

Hi Klop, to test if right speaker may be defective please try first to connect a headphone to your Y570 andcheck if there is sound output on both earpieces, if sound is still coming from left side only go toControl Panel\All Control Panel Items > Sound > Speakers > Properties > Levels > Balanceand see that both L and R sliders are at the same position.  Y570 Drivers & Downloads...http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/ca/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=867235 good Luck... Hello Sorry If this is in the wrong place but I couldn't find a board for IdeaPad 700. I've had this laptop for a decent while (almost a year) and although it hasn't really bothered me much in the past, it's really starting to bother me now as I'm now usually in an area with more people (libraries, lecture theatres etc.). Everytime I start up my laptop, I can hear a constant crackling sound (which would continue until I shut down the laptop but would continue again right as I turned it back on) and sometimes a beep or two but mainly from underneath my laptop where the fans are located or where my right speakers are located. I'm not sure if it is a sound card issue or a driver issue as I don't hear anything like that through my headphones and the sound is perfect, however, the crackling noise still continues on my laptop itself. When I play music or watch any video through my speakers, the sound from the left speaker seems fine but the sound from the right speakers sometimes becomes distorted and you can hear like a quiet mumbling sound of the music or video underneath. I've also noticed that when I am using my scroll wheel on my mouse or scrolling using my touch pad, the crackling gets louder but as soon as I stop scrolling, it goes back to its "normal" crackling sound. I'm not sure if this is enough information but I really have no other idea of how to accurately describe the sound. I've also tried changing driver versions but it did not seem to work or do anything... Read more

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad 700-15ISK crackling sound (speaker?)

Hi VinceZent ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try booting on the BIOS using the Novo key (item6 page6) to turn on and press a bit on the scrolling on the touchpad.
Check if same sound appears booting on another live media is available.

Reviewing the placement of the touchpad to the systemfan and right speakers , I think mechanically is an issue with the fan. Pressure can be done by the touchpad passing it to the fan and underlying structure including the speakers as ,maybe just a cable on the wrong place since expected that it would be silent on this model.

You don't have to change on the softwares but I would encourage you giving technical support a call for in warranty service and option that you can decide on.

Hope this help answer your query.
Update us how things go.

Hello, I recieved my IdeaPad Y550 about a week ago and I have really enjoyed it. I haven't had any problems with it. I made an image of the hard drive of how it was when I recieved it, then installed Windows 7 on it. It worked great, no problems for the last week. Today, I rode the bus home and when I turned on my computer, there is a random static sound out of my left speaker. It doesn't happen when I move the mouse or scroll a window, it is kind of random. It seems that the more I am doing, the more frequent it is. It lasts for about 1-2 seconds then goes away, and happens again every 15-60 seconds depending on if I am doing something or if it is only sitting here idle. It is extremely distracting, turning my volume up doesn't seem to make it louder, but if I mute then it is quiet. It would be extremely lame if somehow I permanently damaged my speakers just from riding 1 time on the bus (laptop was in my backpack and was never set down carelessly). Is there any way I can fix this and have my quiet laptop back?

Answer:IdeaPad Y550 - Random static from left speaker

This is still happening  I uninstalled the sound drivers, and reinstalled with the latest RealTek drivers, but it didn't make a difference. If I mute it then it goes away, so it is definitely the speakers, but if I plug in headphones then it doesn't transmit that way- it still makes noise at the speaker even if i have sound coming through the headphones.Message Edited by consisting on 08-07-2009 04:42 PM

Hello everybody: Lenovo clients and team. About 2 weeks ago I've got Lenovo Y570 (i7 second generation, 8Gb RAM, 750GB HDD,windows 7)Actually I'm happy with this laptop, but here is one very annoying issue -the speaker error and hdd indicator blinking So here are two questions:1.im curious how do i stop my hdd indicator blinking all the time?and what does the blinking indicate? 2. Sometimes when i turn on the computer the 'welcome music' sounds but ended up with a 'buzz' sound like an error thing. what problem might it be?is it the speaker? my laptop is brand new. I'm hoping that any of you can respond and help me to fix these problems!

Answer:Ideapad hard disk indicator blinking and speaker error

1. hdd light blinking means hdd is writing/reading smtng, it means it's in use. cant stop that2. error buzz sound means your pc froze for a moment, whilw that sound lasts. it froze while something was playing.defragment, clean registry, disable not needed startup programs, update drivers etc.i suggest tuneup utilities, and then update drivers if you want or need to

Can someone provide me with the steps for properly setting up RAID volume(s) from scratch in IdeaPad U310 for fresh installing Windows 7? Originally I had the machine running well with Windows 7 loading very quickly because of the installed 32GB SSD in addition to 500GB HDD. I did something wrong - deleted all RAID volumes in Intel Rapid Storage Configuration Utility, and that?s when all my problems started?  I could not access the same menu anymore thereafter because I could not get to the screen where I would be prompted to press Ctrl+I. The only way to install Windows 7 was when I would set HDD mode to Compatible in BIOS, but then I could not use the SSD. After many attempts, including pulling the HDD out, deleting the HDD volume on a different computer and putting it back in the machine, I am now able to get to the ?Press Ctrl+I? screen and access the Rapid Storage Configuration Utility menu.

I have spent countless hours installing and reinstalling Windows under different BIOS settings in order to get the machine up and running as it is supposed to, but unsuccessful. I gave up, and because now I finally can get to the ?Press Ctrl+I? screen again, I don?t want to go beyond this step until I can get some support. Another problem is that when I delete all volumes and try to create a new RAID volume in this menu the default size shows 59.6GB, and I cannot go with larger size as I get a message ? ?Not enough space for creati... Without any particular event (Windows 10, Ideapad Flex 14), these things happend

touchpad cursor control stopped working, but cursor works fine with USB mouse
Synaptics control 'Accessories' work fine : Presssure Graph and Mood Pad
graphical volume control appeared in upper right
volume is constantly driven to zero ... cannot get sound without constantly clicking on volume level, or hitting Volume up key (F3)
Volume down (F2) and Sound toggle (F1) now do nothing

I can hold down Volume up (F3) and get volume to work, but it must be held down continuously to hear anything played on the speakers.

it looks like some event from either Volume down or Sound toggle is running continuously, and those events prevent the touchpad cursor control from working.

The laptop is barely functional in this condition .. must have USB mouse connected, and playback of any sound

I have sprayed clean dry air around the keys .. it seems unlikely that any debris is stuck in the key, but it almost seems like one of the two keys (volume down or less likely sound toggle) is being continuously pressed.

I would be quite happy to have the key disabled through software .. I havae never used it.

Any help would be so generous from the community, and so gratefully appreciated!

I experience the exact same problem with this laptop (recently installed Windows 10, but the problem was also apparent with Windows 8). Only, the volume is constantly driven to 100 instead of zero. Reinstalling drivers or completely reinstalling windows does not solve the problem.

Answer:IdeaPad U430 unmountable Boot Volume

Hi Nalinpr,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with unmountable boot volume in your Lenovo U430 laptop.

If your BIOS settings are configured to force the faster UDMA modes, this error may occur. In this situation, restart your computer and enter the BIOS and load the "fail-safe" default settings and reboot.
If neither of these issues are the cause for the Unmountable Boot Volume, then the issue most likely is caused by a damaged BOOT.INI file in the root directory of the boot drive or file system corruption. Follow the steps below to correct these file system issues: 1) Start your computer with your windows 7 or any operating system which you have installed in the system CD-ROM,  2) When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R to Repair the installation using the Recovery Console 3) If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the Windows installation you want to access 4) Type the administrator password when you are prompted, if no administrator password is set then just press Enter 5) At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /R and then press Enter 6) Once CHKDSK has finished checking and repairing the hard drive, type EXIT and press Enter to restart your computer If this procedure does not work, repeat it and use the fixboot command in step 5 instead of the chkdsk /r command. FIXBOOT writes a new partition boot sector to the s... Read more

My problem is about a week and im very frustrated with it. What happen is my laptop suddenly mutes itself, it was very annoying specially when Im listening to music. Also the five lights on the touch panel are being pressed by themselves. Also the tricky part is that it only happens when power is plugged in when the power is not plugged it doesnt happen. I tried to update, reinstall, remove the drivers but the problem is still present. My main question is if there's a way to disable the whole five touch panels in my z470 laptop?HELP PLEASE!!

Hello espiritueds and welcome to community,

To disable the Touch button you need to uninstall Lenovo energy management software.

The issue seems to be happen due to internal cable connecting these touch buttons.

If the laptop is in warranty then you can contact the support center and get the case log.

Answer:My IdeaPad Z470 hid its little volume & brightness window!!

hi samm,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

You're probably talking about the onscreen display when you toggle the volume / brightness (see images below):

Credits goes to Alexandr1200 for posting the images on this thread

If the above display doesn't work when increasing/decreasing the volume or brightness, try to:
1. Uninstall Lenovo Energy Management under Control Panel > Programs and reboot
2. Reinstall Lenovo Energy Management below and reboot:

Lenovo Energy Management SoftwareIN8STW09WW5.exe13.4 MB

3. Try to toggle the volume / brightness and see if the onscreen display appears.

Hope this helps

Hi , I am using Ideapad z580 with 1 tb hard disk space. I partitioned the C drive using Data management - Shrink Volume. Total Shrink Volume was displayed as 432 gb. And later I partitioned the 432 volume into 3 partitions of 144 gb each (432/3 = 144). But the size in C drive after partition is displayed as 449 gb which is Non-Shrinkable. Can you please let me know why I cannot partition the C drive less than 449 gb. Alright, my issue is that about a month or so ago my laptop was erased of everything (on accident) and I ended up installing Windows 7 on it. I went to the Lenovo site and downloaded drivers for the audio. But when I set my default program for sound to Realtek I can't hear anything and I also can't use my volume controls on the right hand side of the keyboard. I can hear the sound just fine when it's set to default speakers. I don't understand where I went wrong or what. If you know of anything I can try please let me know, it's a bit annoying. :/ Please and thanks. (:

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my Ideapad S205 - I can't ajdust volume using fn key + left/right arrows. I installed lenovo energy management and the hotkey utility, the brightness controls (fn+up/down) work just fine, the only problem is the volume. I have tried uninstalling and reenstalling the energy management software but it didn't help. Strange thing is that without the energy managemet installed I was able to adjust both brightness and volume, after installing the software just the volume controls stopped working - it seems that the hotkey utility is the issue. Is there a way to install just energy management withou the utility? Do you have any idea how to solve this?  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Adam

Hello I have some kind of minor issues on Lenovo, the Lenovo z480 has a quick buttons for volume control. When I press the volume up and down a popup indicator no longer appears, even the mute volume. It so frustarting because I dont know what Level my volume is in. I have to look at the volume panel to do this. The good thing is the volume still works, but I have to press many times before I could get to a desired volume level which is undersirable. Also my brightness popup indicator no longer appears and that the brightness on Windows Control Panel no longer works(brightness slide bar). I have major issues on this because I think the brightness on windows slide bar and the brightness on lenovo fn+keys is not sync. My laptops fn+keys still works for brightness but the OS part of tweaking the brightness has no response or whatsoever.Do you know what driver that I could install or uninstall to solve my issue? Also I have windows fully updated and I have this issues since my previous update. So I know this some kind of driver issues.I dont know what driver I have to reinstall. I want those volume and brightness popup indicators to appear and back to normal. Thanks!

Hello, I am looking at an issue with a Z570 that the volume up/down and mute buttons that are above the keyboard don't work any longer. Troubleshooting Done so far:1, Reboot2. Windows and Lenovo updates(OneTheater, Energry Management, and audio drivers updated with full reboot. Neither have resolved the issue. This was working prior and then in the last 24-48 hours is when I noticed the failure.I did notice that it worked prior on an Ubuntu 13.04 live usb so I will be trying that tonight. The [FN] + UP/Down/Left/Right do work to adjust both the volume and brightness and I do get a display. I have verified that it isnt the display just not popping up  by opening the volume and viewing the slider there to see if it adjusts like it did previously. I will update this thread with results from live usb testing.

Hi

I got a 2nd hand Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It came with Win10 installed but had someone elses profile and data.
(I am not sure if it originally had Win8.1 when it was shipped, there is no rollback option anymore)

My preference is to wipe the current installation completely by downloading Win10 and installing a clean copy off USB.

I also usually prefer to delete all partitions, including recovery because future reinstallations can be done from scratch via USB. (I don't need the option of reinstalling from recovery partitions , the extra space is more important)

I see a warning in the user guide however .....
"Do not delete or modify the Recovery Partition on a WIMBoot-enabled computer. If the Recovery Partition is deleted or modified, you may not be able to restore Windows to the factory status. For computer models on which WIMBoot is enabled, deleting the Recovery Partition may cause Windows to fail to start. How can I determine whether the Windows running on my computer is WIMBoot enabled? WIMBoot technology is normally enabled on copies of Windows 10 Update running on SSD (or eMMC) -only computer models."

What is the best way to do this?

Install a clean copy and remove the partition by booting off a USB, or should I not do this?

Answer:Ideapad 100s - Win10 clean installation on ideapad...

 Hi larrens ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It's a good thing you posted first before proceeding with any clean installation.
Not sure what the Machine Number is to verify the details and specifications of your system.

But if you have a pc with a Windows Image Boot (or WIMBoot) you may not want to choose a clean installation.
This new deployment of installation is compressing part of a big OS file so that you can have an operating system that can only take small spaces intended for small storages (SSD).

Best option to wipe out previous owners profile is a have a fresh out of the box image is using the Puch button Factory reset (Novo key similar to Item 7 page 1). Simply shutdown the system and use the button to turn on, System Recovery option would provide One key recovery from initial backup to do it.

WIM boot are usually created thru OEM depot authorized by Microsoft . DIY for WIMboot maybe a bit complicated.
Click on underlined links for further review.

Hope this answered your query.

Answer:lenovo u430 ideapad windows 8 cannot boot - unbootable amount of volume

Hi indi467 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Unmountable Boot Volume may be a problem with windows boot or the harddrive itself.

If the advance repair option would not work , you would need a Windows Repair Media/ Windows Recovery CD to boot from .  If you have not created a repair image previously , a Rescue Disc or any windows repair disc will do.

Then choose Trouble Shoot  > Advanced Options > Command Prompt  and then type chkdsk /r
else proceed with other boot repair options.            CMD> bootrec /scanos            CMD> bootrec /rebuildbcd            CMD> bootrec /fixmbr            CMD> bootrec /fixboot

The factory recovery image is embeded on a hidden partition of the harddrive.
It should not be affected by any Windows corruption not unless that the harddrive sectors are physically damaged.
It would delete everything on the harddrive and refresh it with a new copy just like from out of the box.

To try it , just turn off the machine . Use the Novo button (page 66) to turn on .
Novo menu would offer BIOS set up ( to reset defaults) or proceed with System Recovery from initial back up .
If System Recovery fails or would... Read more

Hi, I'm looking for a laptop for college that can also run some games.  I'm not hoping to run Crysis on high or anything...I just want to be able to have Portal, TF2, etc. look moderately good and play without lag.  I've found 2 laptops that look promising, but need help deciding. First is the Z580 21512KU model (about $770 on Amazon):-Intel Core_i5_3210M Processor 2.5GHz (3MB Cache)-6 GB DIMM RAM-750GB 5400rpm Hard Drive-NVIDIA GT630M 1GB DDR3 Then we have the Y570 ($750 on Lenovo's online shop):-i7-2670QM Processor( 2.2GHz 1333MHz 6MB)-8.0GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333 MHz-1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive-NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 1GB Which one will be able to run my games better?  The Y570 seems like a better deal (larger hard drive, more RAM, i7 over i5), but I've heard that the .3 GHz difference in processor speed makes the i5 better.  Is this true?  Also, which graphics card will be better?  All in all, which is a better bang for my buck? Thanks!

Answer:IdeaPad Z580 vs. IdeaPad Y570?

Hi, I was exactly in the same dilemma; they are both priced very similarly. I opted for z580 because of several reasons. Y570 gets hotter overal. The i7 processor makes absolutely no difference in games; it's only useful for video editing. The 555M graphics card in the Y570 is the nerfed version of the card, which makes it performance wise similar to the GT 630M:http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-555M.41933.0.html(96 cores 753MHz (GF108), 128Bit GDDR5, e.g. Lenovo Y570p / Y560p)The hood on the Z580 looks way better (personal preference). The z580 has Ivy Bridge. Also, the screen on the z580 is a little better (AUO vs SEC on Y570). Bottom line: I'm very happy with my choice. Excellent build quality and decent performance. The screen is one of the best 1366x768 screens I've seen.I've played the following games so far:Crysis 2 on gamer settings, average 30 fpsshift 2 on high settings, 30-50 fpsmax payne 3 on medium, average 30+ fpsthe witcher 2, low settings, average 30 fps.modern warfare 3, high 40 fps Hope this helps

My computer speakers have a reoccurring speaker booming noise. It is very low in freq. and, when it is a problem, happens every few minutes (one boom - not very loud).

There are days that go by when it doesn't happen at all. It doesn't seem to matter what programs are running - as long as the speaker volume is on.

I thought it could be a pulse running through the electrical system? Any ideas how I can diagnose this?

Could it be an ASUS P3C-2000/Intel 820 problem?

I have a SBLiveValue board and Klipsch ProMedia Speakers - which are otherwise performing wonderfully.

Thanx for any help offered,

1. Expirament with various lights, small appliances, telephones, etc., in the home and close to the machine. See if switching them on/off causes the noise.

2. Make sure your computer has an outlet dedicated soley to the computer. No heaters, fans, etc., should be plugged into the same plug.

3. The computer should have a surge-protected power strip (preferably one that can support your phone line as well).

4. Make sure all the connecting speaker system's wires are tight, including the power plug.

5. If it persists, I suggest you get a different set of speakers (just borrow a set from a friend) and see if it still does it. If so, check inside your machine that your audio card is not loosely installed.

6. If all else looks good, it could be a factory defect. In which case, is this a new problem that just started happening out of the blue, or one that you've had every since you installed the speakers? Is this a new computer an old computer? Did you build it from scratch with new parts or old parts from a previous computer?

This is a really weird situation. I walked across a carpet and then touched the volume knob on my 2.1 computer speakers to turn them down, but when I walked across the carpet I built up a static charge and when I touched the knob the charge jumped about a 1/4 of an inch and went into either the bass knob or volume knob. After that happened I heard a loud pop from the speakers and then they stopped working. I unplugged them and plugged them in and they started working again, but now the bass knob doesn't do anything, the speakers constantly pump out full bass. I have no clue what is wrong, I would have thought it would be the rheostat, but that should stand up to low current high voltage shouldn't it?

Answer:Problem with my speaker's bass sound

The static charge probably "burned out" the bass control circuit. That "small" spark could have been in the 100,000 volt range. Could this damage? YES!

I have had a Bose 3 piece speaker system for 4 years and it sounds great. I upgraded my modem and router yesterday, and speakers still sounded great. I plugged in a second monitor to my Toshiba laptop, windows 10, and all sound went away. I disconnected the second monitor and sound came back, but I had to turn the volume control way up to get any volume and it had no base. I found the volume control in the control panel and it was at 50%, I turned it up to 100%. Volume is better but base was still gone. There is a bass compensation control on the subwoofer that had always been set at the midway point for the past 4 years, I turned it up all the way, and bass is better but the whole system just doesn't sound the way it did yesterday. What happened and how to fix? Thanks

I have a three speaker audio system- two smaller ones that go next to my monitor, and one huge bass speaker that I put on the floor near my computer.

I am afraid that the vibrations created by my bass speaker will cause the platter-readers in my hard drive to scratch/destroy the platter (or whatever you call the spinning thing that holds the data in a hard drive).

Will my bass speaker be the future cause of the destruction of my hard drives, or am I safe?

I recently discovered a difference in the volume; the left speaker of the laptop has been functioning normally while there seems to be very low to no sound coming from the right speaker.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 5559 Audio - Right Speaker has low volume while the left speaker functions normally

Hello. You didn't mention the headphone jack, so if you have not yet done so, plug in headphones and see if the balance is okay in them. If the headphones check out okay, then most probably it's a problem related to the speakers.
The test for speakers is the ePSA audio test. It is a hardware test, which means that if the test  tones are very low in the right speaker, but normal in the left speaker, then there is hardware failure somewhere, related to the right speaker.
If both speakers sound normal during the test, then the problem is in the software. Do the usual things like re-install the audio driver, check the balance levels in the Sound properties, try different audio sources, etc.
Re-installing the audio driver resets the settings to their default configurations, so if you do it then you don't have to bother with things like volumes and balance settings, because they will be okay.(Also if the balance is okay through headphones, then it should be okay through the speakers too.)
Here is how to do a simple driver re-install:
1.    Open the Device Manager.2.    Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.3.    Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".4.    Click "uninstall".5.    Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”. 6.    Restart the computer. Windows will detect your device a... Read more

I know this is a little outside of the norm but I am trying to find out if that model can be upgraded with more RAM. I have found it on Taobao and I want the model with the 6Y54 CPU but it only comes with 4GB RAM. I really doubt that the RAM is soldered onto the MB but one can never know.

I don't understand Chinese and have a hard time finding the tech doc on the Chinese Lenovo site.

Ok, dig, I am a Mac guy and I had to get a Windows laptop for work. So please understand I don't know anything.

First easy question : I have a Braven Balance B/T speaker, when I connected it (Which took like 15 minutes ??) it gets labeled as a headset. It's a speaker!

Then the volume is very low, I can turn up Pandora, the main system volume and I still believe it's low. Also, I do not have the Properties > Levels > Enhancements like I have read about. Under Levels I get Balance, that's it.

Can someone who is patient help me thru this starting point and maybe we can go further. I can provide screen shots of anything necessary.

Thanks so much.

I have a computer running some crappy speakers, and for some reason I can barely hear anything from them. I read other posts that talked about not having amplified speakers, and that I should just get amplified ones and be done with it. The only thing that gives me pause is that when I shut down for the night, and you get the windows "shut down" sound, it is really loud. So I tried them on another new computer of mine, and they worked fine. I have obviously checked all the volume settings and they are all on and turned up all the way. Any ideas why this might be happening.

Thanks in advance.

If you go into the "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel and then select the Sounds tab can you play some of the other system sounds at a fairly loud level?

If so, exactly when do you get lower volume levels? Does this happen with certain programs?

Can you give us the details of what you have checked so far? We have no way of know what you mean by, "all".

Some details about the sound controller hardware being used as well as what operating system you are running may help us to help you. Do you have a separate sound card or is sound built-into the motherboard?

Good morning

I am having problems with my computer & speaker volume. It started since family members plugged I-pods in to listen. I have checked all areas on my computer (that I'm aware of) to make sure that all volume is turned up. My actual computer volume is very low also. I have not tried to plug different speakers in though

Can anyone please help?

Thanks...Deb

Answer:SPEAKER VOLUME VERY LOW

Well...try different speakers first, to eliminate that possibility.

Question: Speaker volume

Hi all,

Recently I had to replace my CPU and now my speakers are not as loud as they were with the other one. I have all the volume controls up as high as they will go on my computer and there is no volume knob on the speakers.

Is there another way to make them louder that I am unaware of?

Thanks

Hello everyone,
I have recently noticed that my speaker volume is going up and down by itself. It happens when i'm listening to music, playing games, everything. I have a kt3 ultra mobo, with onboard Avance AC'97 audio 5.1 surround sound speakers. I've played around with my audio options when i noticed the problem and can't figure out what is going on. Please give me some advice.

Thanks

Answer:Speaker volume goes up and down

Any batteries involved in your audio loop? Replace.

Any volume controls on your keyboard? Try disabling keyboard audio control.

Any Windows utilities running that control audio? Running in the System Tray, and check Task Manager. Close any extra audio-related apps.

Otherwise, it could just be your speakers, or sound card amp, going out.

Question: PC speaker volume

How do I turn down the volume of the internal speaker - the one that goes bleep after the POST test? It's far too loud! I can't find any reference to it in the BIOS. I've had this problem on a few PCs. It's also a problem for dial-up internet connection when the squeaking modem noises are too loud.

Answer:PC speaker volume

If you have a Speaker symbol in the System tray, double-click on that. Otherwise Programs, Entertainment, Volume Control. You should find 'PC Speaker' there.

Hi everyone,

I have only recently upgraded to Vista from XP, I'm very pleased with everything apart from this sound problem, which from what I've read is very common. I was hoping to watch movies on my new widescreen monitor, but the sound is just not loud enough with all settings on max.

The problem I'm having is that my speaker volume is very low, I'm using fairly old speakers, but these speakers were very loud on my old computer running XP.

Anyway I've installed the latest Realtek driver & it has made no difference what so ever. Every setting is set to max volume, does anyone know how I can boost the volume? Or maybe someone else has had this problem & found a solution, I'm wondering if new speakers will make any difference?

The only sure-fire solution I think of so far is installing XP, which would mean losing Vista, as I've not got a disc with it on, the computer came with it loaded already.

Please help! :|

Answer:Speaker volume is very low

hey there. recently my sound was working fine until i installed this sigmatel driver update from gateway's web site. after installing that it made my sound icon get the damn red x icon and it didnt work. i then read on here about the realtek and tried that but nothing. it seems though that i have to now do the setup again for the original sigmatel driver under the cabs folder (64 bit system) and then it goes back to green and the sound works. i don't restart it though i just click no on that. i don't know if that will help depending on your system i suppose.
